This is somewhat of a rant (I already know I deserve to be called an asshole if I’m being honest). I’m a 24 year old guy studying in university right now and live away from home. My family includes my parents, an older brother and a younger sister. In the last year specifically, I’ve begun to feel stifled every time I visit home for the holidays. There’s many elements to this which span years, but I have only begun to get affected by this fairly recently as before that I adored my family. It also has to do with the fact that at university I am surrounded by friends who always talk about their families and I see how good their family dynamics sound, and of course comparison is the thief of joy.
Lets begin with my father, he is a good hearted man and altruistic to a point where he will ignore all his family matters and give his absolute best to the littlest of any problem his friends might have. He is an immigrant and without any further education beyond highschool. I understand the sacrifices he has made for us to be here and I am forever grateful, and that’s a huge part of my guilt for what I am about to say next. Not being able to access education due to his family’s financial conditions at the time I understand and can respect. However you would imagine that when someone is pushing their 60’s there would be an element of wisdom that you get through just having lived your life. I am not expecting my father to be a philosopher, I am just expecting him to be a normal person who can hold a conversation with someone and not immediately embarrass anyone with him due to the way that he talks, with absolutely 0 regards to his surroundings. If he has to talk to anyone even slightly above our social circle in terms of the socioeconomic status he will immediately start choking on his words and get a coughing fit. These are just social situations, in terms of our home life he has absolutely 0 skills in anything related to maintenance. I’m not home most of the time and if anything as little as a light bulb stops working, it will take months to fix that as he does not know how and he does not “know anyone who can come and do it”. He needs the handyman to be from our country and he needs that person to do the work for absolutely 0 amount of money. If that isn’t possible, then nothing in our house gets fixed (and it never does). My parents grew up in a patriarchal society, so my mother sadly does not have many skills and that is how it still is. She can do nothing but complain about the issues to my dad, and he can do nothing but say he can’t do anything about it.
My mother carries deep rooted childhood trauma related to her parents which has made her emotionally unavailable at most of the times. I think out of the family she still is the person I love the most. However, she does not know how to carry herself in this world at all. She has 0 social skills, she has not been able to learn English even though we’ve been living here in the US for 15 years (yes, I have tried to help but she gets mad). She has absolutely no confidence in herself, she is the most pessimistic person I know, and everytime we talk on the phone she’ll more or less start the conversation with “yeah just rotting away like I always do”. She has no friends and if we dare have any guests at our house, which is rare in of itself due to our non existent social circle, she’ll be losing her mind prepping for the day.
On to my brother, he married a girl and got a house in the same hometown as my parents. He has an extremely rocky relationship with her and they have fights almost daily. He and his wife refuse to do anything productive about it and what ends up happening is that my brother will always involve our parents into the fight who can do nothing but watch and worry about it. But if they even suggest anything as much a separation due to the chaotic nature of their relationship, he gets extremely angry.
My younger sister is simply there throughout all this and despite my insistence that they keep her out of all this she ends up just sitting through these fights. I don’t even know how this is gonna affect her future.
I am the last person obviously, and I struggle to confront my brother over how much torture he puts our parents through. I struggle to listen to my mother rant about my father being incompetent because I don’t know how much more respect I have left to lose for him. I am trying to encourage her to have more goals in life however, and she is trying her best.
Obviously there’s many other factors to this, such as financial stresses we’ve had to go through as a family in the last few years and it has definitely put a strain on everyone, including myself.

Welcome, brave adventurers, to the vast and diverse world of Nexovius. Once united, the races that inhabit this world have been torn apart by conflicts and betrayals, leading to a fracture of trust. As a result, they have chosen to split up and establish their own communities across the realm.
In the era known as the Time of Great Factions, the world witnessed the rise of powerful alliances and the establishment of trade routes that connected the scattered settlements. The prominent factions that emerged during this period include the Exalted Bastion, Mirage, Fynelenor, Bhar'Baduhr, Chi'Lokk, Gur'Rul, and Mïrë. These factions quickly realized that they were interdependent, relying on one another for sustenance and resources.

WHO AM I?
My name is Kane (28) and I’ve been a gm for almost 2 years now with my real life group and our 1 year anniversary with the 2 online groups all wandering around in Nexovius is coming up. Having a humble 48 sessions +2 one-shots under my belt in total, but who keeps track am I right... Beside Dming I work several days a week and attend a master of architecture and urbanism at university.
WHAT KIND OF DM AM I?
I like making a lot of maps for my party to immerse them more in the game. I also 3D-print mini’s for my offline group their, NPCS and monsters they encounter. Online I make use of Owlbear Rodeo and make tokens and maps to immerse the players.
I’m the kind of DM who thinks the immersion and fun are the most important aspects of a good game of dungeons and dragons. I’d love to immerse my players in my world and fulfill their wishes and needs in a fitting way in the campaign, through combat and interesting story telling. I try to implement backstories as much as possible within the story. Always trying to make each player feel unique and important within the story. So if you ever got some ideas you would like to discuss with me feel free to do so and we’ll see how we can make it fit within the narrative. Be reasonable with this and don’t start asking for unreasonable requests. The campaign will a good mixture of serious roleplay and humor. I try to roleplay/combat like 60/40 I’d say. Might be the other way around I think it heavily depends on where the party is within the story.
HOW ARE WE PLAYING?
We'll be using owlbear rodeo for the V.T.T. and Discord for voice calling. Using various maps, imagery and theatre of the mind.
CROSS-PLAY HOMEBREW WORLD
I’ve set up a discord server called the Chronicles of Nexovius wherein a lot of information about Nexovius will be displayed for your party. Think about maps you obtain/certain, NPC’s you met, monsters you have encountered, information about the world, cultures, locations and its inhabitants. You can always make your own notes of course. Currently we have 3 groups roaming around in Nexovius. If you would join I would highly suggest checking out as much as you can to read up on what happened so far. Or don’t and be surprised along the way.
The discord server I host functions as a hub for all three the groups to hang out in and discuss the world and whatever pops up.
The idea is to have multiple parties take on an adventure within the world of Nexovius. Wherein together with other parties you slowly fill in this chronicle. Your party saved a king? It will come up in the timeline. Another party went rogue and are now wanted. It will now be displayed on the timeline. A meteor crashed somewhere? It will now be displayed in the timeline. Want to sell this item your party doesn’t use? Sell it on the grand exchange, a place where you can buy and sell goodies to the other parties! This way you experience more from the world you are playing in. Making it feel more alive, interactive and immersive. I also like to come up with one-shots taking place in different regions of the world. So you fully get a feeling of what happens in other parts of the world. It also allows you to play together with party members from different groups.
We’ve had a one-shot where the party had to extract an orc-chieftain from Borealis and it’s legion of warforged. Currently we’re scheduling part 2 (Two-Shot Technically) of a desert-race through The Scorch a mystical desert of sorts.

WHAT WILL THIS GAME BE LIKE?
It’s an open world like RPG wherein the world map is provided and the party can go wherever it pleases by foot or by caravaan. The map is provided with a lot of Points of interest. During overworld travel there is also a chance of experiencing random encounter like monsters that attack the party on the road or an NPC which approaches the party. Based on where the party goes on the map that’s the adventure they might go on based of certain plot hooks. Once the party arrives at a POI I will try to tell a linear story if the party engages with the plot hooks. But the outcome is truly dependent on the actions, words and deeds of the party.

My wife and I live in Texas about an hour from San Antonio. We're thinking of moving to Idaho and I was wanting to pick the collective brains of everyone in this sub.
The easiest way to sum up why we want to move is just to say that we want an environmental change. Here the summers are hot and getting hotter, and they feel like they're lasting longer every year. Mosquitoes are horrible and we go through periods of drought so often it's hard to enjoy the outdoors like we would like.
My question for you ~~Idahoers~~ Idahoans ( I had to Google that and apparently it failed me the first time ) is, what are the pros and cons of living in Idaho? To start, we are looking primarily at possibly moving to Idaho Falls or Twin Falls but at this point we're still open.
I understand the weather will be a lot different in the winter, especially when it comes to snow and ice. Dealing with those things is something I have very limited experience with, but I'm not afraid learning what it takes to deal with it.
Any words of wisdom anybody can offer would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

How many of us pray to the Holy Spirit? Be honest. Even myself I have to remind me that "Oh, yeah, there is the Holy Spirit." How many of us will pray to Jesus, the Father, even asking others to pray for us before going to the Holy Spirit? Well, I am here to tell you that the Holy Spirit is God. We can and should pray to the Holy Spirit! Our reading today from 1 Corinthians tells us that we cannot have faith in Jesus Christ without the Holy Spirit! At Baptism, we receive not only God's salvific grace cleansing us of all our old sins, but we also receive the gifts of the holy Spirit found in the alternate second reading today: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. These can also be stated as wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.
St. Paul also tells us that while there are a wide variety of gifts of the Holy Spirit, there is still one Spirit. We are all baptized into the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We all receive a variety of gifts maybe it is athleticism, maybe it is a gentle heart, intelligence, maybe it is a great patience, maybe it is being funny. We have all been given a many wonderful and varied gifts and we are called to use them! At the same time, when we triumph on the athletic field, get an A on a test or a project, get a promotion for our hard work, or even have a really good parenting moment, we must remember where (and who) our talents come from! In the immortal words of St. Francis de Sales:

"Be who you are and be that well, in order to give honor and glory to the Master Craftsman whose work of art you are!"

My friends, the Holy Spirit may not be calling us to go on a mission trip to Africa, maybe instead we are being called to housesit for our next door neighbor. Maybe we are not called to the priesthood or religious life, but instead build a faithful household and teach a (or some) tiny human how to love God. God puts us where we are so that we may serve all of those around us.
God gives us all the tools that we need to be able to accomplish the roles that he has placed us in. Remember, the apostles were not pharisees or Sadducees. They were not trained theologians. Yet, thanks to the Holy Spirit, they are able to go out into the world and preach the Gospel to the entire world. It did not matter what language they spoke, the Holy Spirit took care of that. I imagine this as they just spoke but the Holy Spirit would kind of "auto-translate" for them. God tasked them with teaching the faith to the entire world and God made sure that they had the tools to do that!
Lastly, in the Gospel, we see another tool that Jesus gave the apostles: those whose sins you forgive are forgiven them. Those whose sins you retain are retained. He gave them the ability to forgive sins! Or rather, Jesus continued to forgive sins through the apostles!

The "glorious son" Ninurta – the offspring of Enlil (the father of the gods); was said in Sumerian mythology to have defeated the so-called "Asag" demon ("Asakku" in Akkadian) who was himself a manifestation of Enmesharra (the sinister god of the underworld; a Sumerian equivalent of "Satan") and to have uttered these words upon its defeat:
"From today forward, do not say Asag: its name shall be Stone. Its name shall be zalag stone, its name shall be Stone. This, its entrails (meaning its 'foundations'), shall be the underworld (the lower parts). Its valour shall belong to the lord (Ninurta)." – lines 310-330.
The text then continues: "The lord applied his great wisdom to it. (Ninurta), the son of Enlil, set about it in a grand way. He made a pile of stones in the mountains. Like a floating cloud he stretched out his arms over it. With a great wall he barred the front of the Land. He installed a sluice on the horizon. The hero acted cleverly, he dammed in the cities together. He blocked the powerful waters by means of stones. Now the waters will never again go down from the mountains into the earth. That which was dispersed he gathered together. Where in the mountains scattered lakes had formed, he joined them all together and led them down to the Tigris. He poured carp-floods of water over the fields." – lines 347-359.
On top of it he erected his Hursag (a Sumerian term meaning "mound, mountain" and it was intended as a "holy place – place of worship" of the gods).
Ninurta then compared all of the soldiers from the entourage of the Asag-demon and who had followed the Asag-demon into battle – to precious stones (which is why he addressed the stones one by one in the text and the soldiers are literally called "stones" and given a purpose that’s comparable to those of precious stones utilized in handiwork – to which Ninurta will give a purpose because he’s the god of craftsmanship among other things). He called them each with the name of a stone because he considered them each a valuable piece on top of whom to construct his puzzle by amassing them all together – piling them up basically like bricks, one after the other; giving each of them a new purpose and redeeming them in the eyes of Ninurta (because the soldiers or "stones" had accompanied the "evil" Asag-demon thus doing "evil deeds"; but now Ninurta took them in as part of his own entourage instead – and he thus redeemed them in his eyes giving them a new purpose).
They all became precious allies of the god Ninurta – and all of them had their roles assigned like stones in a construction or like the materials in the building of artifacts; essentially each of them playing a role in his creation, the new creation that the god Ninurta had established in the mountains according to the text (when he reclaimed the basin of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and rearranged "the mountains" i.e. "the underworld" in order to block the destructive waters that come from the underworld which is called "the mountains" – "Kur" in Sumerian).
And the lord Jesus looked at Peter and said: "And I tell you that you are a Stone, and on top of this Stone I will build my church (my holy place, my place of worship)" – Matthew 16:18.
"And the hero Ninurta acted cleverly, he dammed in the cities together. He blocked the powerful waters by means of stones. Now the waters will never again go down from the mountains into the earth. That which was dispersed he gathered together." The Hursag which Ninurta had built would not be overcome by the waters of Kur (the underworld) now that he’s fixed everything together.
"And all the powers of hell will not conquer it" (Matthew 16:18) – the Church which Jesus had built on top of the Stone; the one which he had built will not be overcome by the gates of Hades (the "gates of Hades" or "powers of Hell" being intended as the "destructive waters of the underworld" by Sumerian mythology).
Furthermore in the Greek equivalent of this myth we have that: the Oracle which the lord Apollo erected on top of the demon Python will not be overcome by the powers of the underworld. Python lies safely beneath it, playing his assigned role in giving oracles, but completely dormant and thus the powers of the "underworld" have been stopped from causing harm.
"He's using us all – irrespective of how we got here – in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he's using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day – a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home." – Ephesians 2:20-22.
The Apostles were sinners before being called by Jesus, just like the "stones" that accompanied the "evil demon" Asag into battle; which Ninurta redeemed and took to be his companions instead.
"You yourselves are like living stones." – 1 Peter 2:5.
And the god Ninurta was claimed to have called each of them (the soldiers of the Asag-demon) with the name of a stone. He reordered the stones in his creation; because each and every one of them was equal in the eyes of Ninurta, and he respected them all – forgiving the enemy (the stones who had served in the entourage of the Asag-demon) and making them all one of his own – building on top of them by giving them each a role. (He addressed them each and used each and every one of them like a stone telling them what to do: "U stone (emery) […] since cornelian is polished by you, you shall be called by its name. And now, according to the destiny fixed by Ninurta, henceforth when U stone touches it, there will be pierced cornelian." – "Cu stones […] Since you cannot escape from his great strength, the goldsmith shall puff and blow on you with his breath. You shall be shaped by him to form a matrix for his creations. People shall place the first fruits of the gods on you at the time of the new moon." – "Sajkal stone […] they shall say to you "Be off with you, hurry!", it shall be your name. And now, by the destiny fixed by Ninurta, henceforth you shall be called a bad lot in the Land. The enumeration of the stones continues and Ninurta gives them each a role.
The "place of worship" erected by this pagan god was not so much a "church" – but rather a point from which everyone would get access to water, food and healthcare (being a god of medicine and healing) whenever they needed it.
The same way Ninurta enumerates all the precious stones that are used in craftsmanship and he lists every single role that they have (being the god of handiwork himself) – he will then the same way rearrange the soldiers of the army of the Asag-demon giving them each a new purpose and a new role; so this is what the metaphor of the text is trying to convey. He used the people just like the stones he utilized in building artifacts and in constructing his Hursag (and just as the physical stones will now block the "destructive waters" of the underworld – the same way the "figurative" stones i.e. the soldiers who are called "stones" as a metaphor; will protect the world from "evil" instead).

Was in polaris on the flight last night that got diverted to HNL because 3 crew members were sick (i am guessing food poisoning since they took a couple of toilets offline with them), with 5-6hrs left to SFO (before the clock changed to 2hrs to HNL instead). At first it looked optimistic when we landed because they started restocking water bottles and such on the plane, ground crew came to clean the toilets, and a doctor wearing a hawaiian shirt + stethoscope (very on-brand for hawaii) came to check on the afflicted flight crew.
Then after 20-30mins they told us we wouldn't be continuing tonight and kicked us off the plane, though thought it was a bit strange since I saw what seemed like replacement crew with contractor lanyards saying goodbye to us when we got off. Official note in the email for cancellation said that it was due to the crew running out their clock of allowed flight time (so i guess there wasn't enough replacements ready?).
Airport was totally asleep since it was 1.30am when we got kicked off the plane, immigration & customs seemed like they had just been called up in the middle of the night to handle us, dragged bags all the way across to the other end of the airport to be given 2-day hotel vouchers (for HHV- surprising it wasn't a marriott given united's usual partnership) and taxi vouchers. However, since it was the middle of the night (~2.15am), there were no taxis available so they were coming 1-2 cars every 5-10min and slowly moving people across. Some smart people took ubers, i stayed behind at first to finish attempting to rebook using the chat function in the united app.
Wasn't lucky enough to get on the 7am flight out (saw a lot of my fellow biz class cabin was fast enough to rebook to it), but i still really needed to make a connection to Toronto 14hrs later from SF for a work trip so I got them to rebook me to one from Maui to SF (which would leave me with just enough time to drop off my bags at home in SF- tight but i figured i had about 10min of buffer in the plan 😅). Also booked myself a Hawaiian air flight from HNL-OGG to reposition for the OGG-SFO leg on UA. The OGG-SFO leg is in economy sadly.
After I finished like 45min later the taxi line was still super long so i gave in and took an uber out of pocket as well, but when I got to the hotel it turned out that long taxi line had just converted to a long (and unavoidable) check-in line at the hotel, since (again) it was the middle of the night and only 1-2 staff were working. A 3rd checkin person opened up a couple hours later, but it literally took 2.5hrs standing in that line to get through. 6am I finally got to my room, slept for 2hrs and then headed back out to the airport (finally using a united voucher this time).
I just landed in Maui, and im hoping everything else goes smoothly but I am curious if anyone knows if I'll be able to claim what i paid for this HA flight from United as compensation? It was only like $130 but would be nice if possible. Or if there is anything else I might be able to claim, either from UA or from my amex platinum travel insurance? Technically the app says its a cancellation (also have diversion screenshots if needed). Or if theres anything i can claim for the downgrade from Business to Economy- though im guessing not on the latter.
I did check the DOT website and their chart has united marked as giving hotels+meals+transport vouchers instead of cash compensation for cancels&delays, and technically they did that (although nearly unusable..) so I am guessing not eligible for much. I am guessing maybe can claim the HA flight from amex travel insurance but not super sure on that either.
Also in retrospect, I wish they had just decided to continue to SF, we weren't on the ground that long for the crew clocks to be off by much and im sure people would have not minded having a few bathrooms out of order vs the massive 1-2 day ordeal most are getting instead.

Jump Notes

I wake up in my room in the warehouse apartments, after shutting myself in without even checking the Benefactor's Lounge the night before
1. I'm still lingering on the frustration of not cracking the riddle of Allabar, and not being able to solve the problem permanently
2. But there's no going back, so I commit to facing forward for the rest of the week, and head to the Benefactor room
  1. Once again, there are four envelopes with me, and my big chart of jumps up on the wall, like something from a Kindergarten classroom
  2. As I affix a sticker saying "The Fountain (2006)" to the big chart, a small round outline appears next to it: "Biosphere Supplement available"
3. On my way to call a team meeting, I catch a surprise outside the apartments
  1. Three of our bard graduates are slowly exploring the area
4. At the team meeting, I announce my intention to go solo on the next jump
  1. The decision isn't popular, but most of them have waited while I've done gauntlets before, so it's not a big shock

1. Our vessel, the Cyllene, is essentially a large asteroid with a hole carved in the middle, stuffed with propellent, equipment, supplies, expansive aquaponics facilities, and a relatively tiny living area
  1. Cyllene was said to have nursed and protected Hermes, as this vessel must nurture and protect us, the first observers, and hopefully, colonists,
2. As my body and mind resume normal function over the course of 90 minutes, I get a slow trickle of updates on the status of the Cyllene and our mission
  1. The mission clock says it's 202 years since we left Earth, but thanks to time dilation, Earth has experienced 221
  2. Computer Block 5 (of 8) is currently undergoing automated reconstruction as the block with the highest error correction rate at the time the last automated reconstruction completed
  3. 1575 individuals are currently in cryosleep, and 25 (including me) are active, all sufficiently healthy
  4. I am still Dr. John Axstrom, revered teacher and groundbreaking computational pharmacologist, but my consciousness seems to have jumped forward a few hundred years, skipping past the development of miracle cures, life extension medications, and cryogenic preservation of humans
3. As I realign with my memories and identity, I remember why I'm here
  1. If colonization proceeds, the coming generations are going to need exceptional teachers if they are to learn their place in the universe, and I'm one of the best there ever was
  2. Our mission is expected to take about 750 years from departure to arrival, and though the vast majority of that time is spent in cryosleep, we take shifts being "awake" to ensure systems are functioning and keep eachother mentally and physically healthy
4. Since the monitoring systems will throw a fit if I straight up disappear from the vessel, I take a long ride out to the external "observation" check, out of the range of most of the sensor systems
  1. There's not really much to observe in deep space - it's like the night sky, as the ancients saw it with no light pollution, but from a different perspective
  2. Here I quickly form a stunt double duplicate, hand over my electronics, and duck into the warehouse
5. The warehouse clock confirms my suspicions - I'm nearly seven years into the jump
  1. Since it looks like this isn't going to take nearly 1000 years, the team hasn't been going full-stasis mode
  2. The bards have been poring over J-Borg's personal library as well as the impressive collection of the warehouse media room
  3. But the reason I came is the Tablet of the Free - I'm stuck on a large but still confined deep-space vessel until my scheduled return to cryosleep - how is that supposed to entertain the boss?
  4. After confirming nothing interesting is in the warehouse, I head back to the observation deck, and stash the portable door I've been using back into hammer-space before re-merging with my stunt double, and taking the long trip back to the living area
I wake up to an unfamiliar synthetic beep - apparently the Cyllene's version of a doorbell
1. When I open the door, one of my crewmates tells me that our directional antennas have picked up some unusual RF activity that seems to be coming from our destination system, and they want me (as the on-shift programmer) to help the astronomer, comms, and operations staff to help make sense of it, and ensure we're not about to get nuked by a magnetar or something
2. Initial findings were sparse and inconclusive - just occasional pulses of a signal that must have been very strong and highly directional at the time of transmission, to reach us so far away
3. But I had access to diagnostic tools that the astrophysicists and comms staff didn't, for all their training and equipment: a series of perks specifically for teasing out the needles of relevance from the haystack of noise
  1. And as I looked at what we were seeing, and what we weren't, the answer became clear: these radio bursts looked just like a primitive form of RADAR
  2. At first my colleagues on the Cyllene were skeptical, but the evidence kept mounting, with 4 additional series of "pings" being detected in the next six weeks
4. With the spectre of extraterrestrial intelligence hanging over the Cyllene, our XO followed protocol, and ordered the full complement to be wakened from cryosleep to assist in the work to come
5. Within six months, we had fabricated and installed a much larger purpose-built directional antenna array on the surface of our asteroid hull, and reports of different signals were coming in almost daily
  1. We needed all the extra hands, even our mining and terraforming experts were lending a hand with signal analysis and attempts to form patterns
  2. The whole crew felt the urgency and wondered at the situation - temporally, it would mean that their early experiments with RADAR and initial RF broadcasts would have happened at about the same time as humans did those things on earth, and if they developed at the same rate as us (a big if), they would likely be more advanced when we arrivedd than humans were when we left (and thus the technology of our vessel), and would almost certainly see us coming
6. The coming months flew past, each bringing further confirmation of suspicious, but with it frustration, as we had been unable to extract a coherent signal - the broadcasts we could pick up didn't appear to be using either amplitude or frequency modulation
  1. More than once I brought signal samples to the warehouse team, but they were just as stumped as us
  2. Even more "esoteric" means didn't work - we tried every variation of "Tongues" and "Comprehend Language" spells on printed, audioized, and even engraved versions of the RF signals we caught, but they all failed and the representations seemed full of too many discontinuities
7. I could feel my new Inventor's Vision working on the task of how to decode these signals, and about two years after the first pulse was detected, I had my breakthrough
  1. The signals didn't represent continuous audio (like human radio) or even piece-by-piece visuals (like rasterized video), but something of each, and a little weirder
  2. They were composed of many (from seven to three hundred, and not consistent at all) micro-audio clips
  3. It was like making an ultra-low bitrate recordding of the voice of every singer in a chorus individually, and transmitting fifty milliseconds of one, then fifty milliseconds of the next, and so one, in serial, and then starting back again with the first voice
  4. We couldn't figure out why they did this, but once I was able to identify the break points between each "voice", I could layer them on top of eachother to make a composite audio version
  5. And that composite audio could be played, and was a viable candidate for magic translation
8. The entire vessel went wild when I demonstrated the isolation and recombination of the signals to produce audio
  1. The sound of the thing was somewhat like the sound of multiple birds, frogs, and crickets in a forest, in very brief clips
  2. Of course, I didn't reveal that I had access to magic translation - I figured the comms and signals staff (and the one cryptographer) should have to earn their pay
9. The remaining year and a half was spent in intense research, for them, while I mostly slacked off and tried to make conversation with the people doing important work on this front, since my actual mission here was to "observe" as humans of this universe underwent a sort of assymmetrical first contact
I awaken in my weird little pod bed in my weird little capsule room for the last time, perfectly aware of the remaining hours in this jump
1. After the initial excitement died down, the majority of the colonists were put back into cryosleep, with only the decoding specialists and those "on shift" like me staying active
  1. There has been a lot of anxiety around the Cyllene for the last few months - we are clearly a colony ship and the intelligent inhabitants of that system probably do not want to be colonized, and may well be easily capable of destroying us
  2. There were discussions about trying to reverse course and head back to Earth, but we could do that any time, and the closer we get, the more information we can gather about the system and its inhabitants
2. It would be cruel to try to skim supplies from this vessel even if there were something I wanted aboard, so I just wait my time out, helping where I can and secretly translating any communications we receive when time permits
  1. So far it has all been rather uninspiring, which makes me even more curious what kind of species would develop radio technology but not transmit any fiction or speeches or poetry
3. When it's almost time, I once again make the long trek out to the Cyllene's observation deck alone, and split off a Stunt Double, who can at least stay here for a month, while I slip into the warehouse
  1. When I enter, J-Borg greets me and informs me of a message at the Benefactor's lounge
  2. The note on the door says "Supplement Pending - please attend as soon as possible", so I go in to check it out
  3. With the choices all locked in, the door unlocks and I head out to meet with the team
4. With the memories of my time in Spain finally restored, I realize how I had been trying to communicate with myself all along, but failing
  1. The need for calm communcation and education will never end - among our closest neighbors or with a civilization 300 light years away
5. We have the traditional group dinner in the commons, and discuss what's going on
  1. The team did end up spending most of the time in stasis, and the formerly-newborn halflings are a little over a year now biologically, learning to speak and walk
  2. When I mention the Biosphere supplement and how I wasn't allowed to consult them, they naturally asked when it would apply, but it hadn't even occurred to me that there were now definitely too many of us to wait out warehouse changes in the entrance hall, so I checked with the central control
6. Afterward, no one was complaining when the doors finally unlocked and we were able to leave the commons hall, only to find that the door led to an outdoor path with a natural-looking sunset on the horizon
  1. I didn't want to spoil the whole setup yet, so I said we could tour in the morning, and turned off a number of the facilities and systems for the night, to give me some time to understand what options were available before letting my companions go wild with them
  2. Fortunately, the obvious items like the tree of life and factory complex were on other islands, that would be difficult to reach without the transport disks running
7. And then I went to sleep again, wondering what the next awakening had in store for me

Notes on the Fountain Jump Doc

Honestly this doc has been on my to-try list since I saw it - I really enjoyed the movie and gladly rewatched it again when it came up in my random draw.
The author took some liberties with the source material, which makes sense because of how focused on Thomas the story is, and the extensions largely make sense
There were a few confusing things in the jump, such as how you get essences and what powers you bring with you into each phase of the jump, but a close reading makes them clear enough
The jump has a few really standout purchase
1. the inventor's intention is the answer to a lot of concers that "do-gooder" jumpers are likely to have in their careers
2. the full tree of life is an amazing item - the ability to grant perfect health and immunity to aging within a regrowing item solves a lot of problems
3. 500 years of practice is amazing if you have a particular skill or art in mind - literally centuries better than the "10 years of practice" equivalents that you find din many other jumps, and has a lot of potential to synergize with other perks that scale off your skill in a particular area
4. Biosphere is super cool if you want your fiat-backed warehouse to grow into something more
5. The Dagger of the Path is a great example of a conceptual weapon, and something I probably would have picked up if I had a bunch more points
How you're supposed to interleave the three eras is a little unclear, and maybe I'm not a creative enough author to pull it off. I don't believe SJ Chan ever got around to writing a fictionalized account of jumping to it, unfortunately
1. If anyone else has done a good jump fiction of this jump, please let me know
Overall absolutely a fantastic jump. Obviously a great option for anyone who likes the movie or wants to solve one of the specific problems available
1. I'd especially recommend it for an early-chain jumper because of the generally low danger level and great variety of rewards

Notes on the Biosphere Supplement Doc

I knew this was something I wanted to pick up when I first read the fountain jumpdoc several months ago
I use the "Personal Reality" warehouse which was co-authored by SJ Chan, and this supplement feels perfectly tailored to supplement that
There are lots of good pickups for people with various interests, or those who just want to keep their options open
1. Observation Deck seems like the real must-have since a lot of the other buys are controllable through it
The structure of the biosphere was a little confusing at first - I thought that there was an island, a void around the island, and a hard shell, and wasn't sure why you'd want to increase the shell thickness, but further reading cleared that up
On the whole, a good pick up, especially considering it only cost 400 CP in the jump, and normally buying warehouse upgrades with CP has a very unfavorable conversion, but in this case, the biosphere purchases all seemed cheaper than they ought to be.

Hey everyone! Ive been in the military for a few years and I’m trying to see how to get medically retired? The military has messed me up so much & im so over it! I literally have no feeling in my face due to wisdom teeth. I also just had surgery on my knee. There’s more but I literally would be ALL day listing this. From research, it says i need a condition with a rating of a minimum of 30% that is permanent & will affect everyday life. Im not sure how they get these ratings but my knee & face are affected every single day! To anyone that was medically retired after a few yrs of service, what did you do? What verbage did you tell your PCM, Physical therapist, Etc?

WHO AM I?
My name is Kane (28) and I’ve been a gm for almost 2 years now with my real life group and our 1 year anniversary with the 2 online groups all wandering around in Nexovius is coming up. Having a humble 48 sessions +2 one-shots under my belt in total, but who keeps track am I right... Beside Dming I work several days a week and attend a master of architecture and urbanism at university.
WHAT KIND OF DM AM I?
I like making a lot of maps for my party to immerse them more in the game. I also 3D-print mini’s for my offline group their, NPCS and monsters they encounter. Online I make use of Owlbear Rodeo and make tokens and maps to immerse the players.
I’m the kind of DM who thinks the immersion and fun are the most important aspects of a good game of dungeons and dragons. I’d love to immerse my players in my world and fulfill their wishes and needs in a fitting way in the campaign, through combat and interesting story telling. I try to implement backstories as much as possible within the story. Always trying to make each player feel unique and important within the story. So if you ever got some ideas you would like to discuss with me feel free to do so and we’ll see how we can make it fit within the narrative. Be reasonable with this and don’t start asking for unreasonable requests. The campaign will a good mixture of serious roleplay and humor. I try to roleplay/combat like 60/40 I’d say. Might be the other way around I think it heavily depends on where the party is within the story.

CROSS-PLAY HOMEBREW WORLD
I’ve set up a discord server called the Chronicles of Nexovius wherein a lot of information about Nexovius will be displayed for your party. Think about maps you obtain/certain, NPC’s you met, monsters you have encountered, information about the world, cultures, locations and its inhabitants. You can always make your own notes of course. Currently we have 3 groups roaming around in Nexovius. If you would join I would highly suggest checking out as much as you can to read up on what happened so far. Or don’t and be surprised along the way.
The discord server I host functions as a hub for all three the groups to hang out in and discuss the world and whatever pops up.
The idea is to have multiple parties take on an adventure within the world of Nexovius. Wherein together with other parties you slowly fill in this chronicle. Your party saved a king? It will come up in the timeline. Another party went rogue and are now wanted. It will now be displayed on the timeline. A meteor crashed somewhere? It will now be displayed in the timeline. Want to sell this item your party doesn’t use? Sell it on the grand exchange, a place where you can buy and sell goodies to the other parties! This way you experience more from the world you are playing in. Making it feel more alive, interactive and immersive. I also like to come up with one-shots taking place in different regions of the world. So you fully get a feeling of what happens in other parts of the world. It also allows you to play together with party members from different groups.
We’ve had a one-shot where the party had to extract an orc-chieftain from Borealis and it’s legion of warforged. Currently we’re scheduling part 2 (Two-Shot Technically) of a desert-race through The Scorch a mystical desert of sorts.

It’s an open world like RPG wherein the world map is provided and the party can go wherever it pleases by foot or by caravaan. The map is provided with a lot of Points of interest. During overworld travel there is also a chance of experiencing random encounter like monsters that attack the party on the road or an NPC which approaches the party. Based on where the party goes on the map that’s the adventure they might go on based of certain plot hooks. Once the party arrives at a POI I will try to tell a linear story if the party engages with the plot hooks. But the outcome is truly dependent on the actions, words and deeds of the party.

Genuinely asking, no hate, now I’ve just finished the quest, what was the reason Cyno couldn’t give Sethos the second fragment back after taking it, after the duel and Bamoun’s death? Cyno’s shown he can be his own person even with a fragment, so saying Sethos can’t be his own person without it just feels a bit disingenuous and patronising, made me think about the whole ‘desert people are savages they need to be reformed’ stuff from the Archon quest. Also thinking about the other people at the Temple, who’ve literally devoted years into seeing the ‘wisdom of Hermanubis’ and now can never get it, it just feels like the actual Temple of Silence really got the short end of the stick. Cyno literally could have just talked with Sethos and they could have agreed to get both organisations working together again, but it comes off as Cyrus not really taking responsibility. Like if you steal something, and your kid takes it, you still have to give it back, even if it’s by accident.

My Background: I'm a pure mathematics PhD and work part-time as a finance assistant (24hpw, not interesting as work and no progression unless I'm there for eternity). I'm so ready to move onto better things, it served its purpose. What's happened: Alongside juggling this I'm thinking about what's next. I've managed to find and regularly go to local networking events in Data, Cloud computing and Coding. Its been invaluable. At one event I got chatting to a guy giving me sound advice about what companies to apply for, we couldn't finish the conversation until after the event and he had to leave early, I reached out we met for lunch last Friday. It was really positive. We talked about what the Data Engineering role is, his experience with clients and looking for jobs, he asked about my experience in software, languages etc and he was floating a project he's involved in that will be active next month or so. At the end of the conversation he asked me to send over my CV. All things considered it went well, I got a lot of advice and he was informing me of other mathematicians ways in. Its just I'm not sure what his plan is, I said I'd love to join his team in some capacity if possible. From the conversation I got the impression he was considering me as a candidate but also that he was a very nice person wanting to pass some wisdom and advice.

Quick Story of current situation, i had wisdom teeth removed Dec 2023, early this month around (May 5th or so) i had starting having a throbbing sensation in my top left furthest back molar when i drink hot liquids that would go away shortly after. A few days later the the pain (hard to describe as it doesnt feel like a cavity more like nerve pain or inflamation of the nerve another description is maybe feeling like the early stages of an abcess) would persist at all times even while not drinking. its also causing a shocking nerve type pain that shoots down the side of my face/neck if i turn my head at the wrong way or at the wrong angle. anyways i also had a similar pains in my top right furthest back molar, but its about 50% less worse then the left side however this tooth has no sensation to hot liquids it just had nerve pains randomly. Anyways i went to the dentist she took xrays of these 2 teeth, she told me the teeth do not have cavitys or anything visably wrong in them that she can see. She tells me i have almost full bone loss on the left molar behind the tooth, and the right molar has like 50% bone loss behind in, which descrbes the pain i feel in them exactly. she reffered me to see perodontist for potential gum disease and sent me home with about 10 days worth of amoxicillin. (i was kinda upset she couldnt help me with the pain then as i dont want to live with it the way it is.)
I am almost certain the nerve in the top left tooth is damanged inflammed past reversal. And im concerened the periodontist will not address the pain im in since the dentist says the tooth looks healthy besides the bone, is it possible to request a tooth removal or extraction even if there is no visable problem with a painful tooth? im scared he will not take it out and just expect me to live with it the way it is. the anti-biotics have not really helped the pain that much im about 6 days into them.
so the main question is even if a tooth is not visably bad would a dentist refuse the request of removal if i just want to be done with this? based on him seeing no problem with the tooth itself.

My F12 child has been recommended Palatal Expansion. She has been wearing Invisalign for nearly 4 years and her smile looks great.
Our orthodontist is now recomending she wear a palatal expansion plate for 4 weeks, and based on the pamphlet we received its going to completely destroy her smile in the process and will take 18 months of Invisalign to restore after the procedure.

People may treat you badly because you didn’t keep up your looks - a man could be speaking to another woman or ignoring you.

Instead of being a victim about it, empower yourself with it. Your flaw can be your power. It can be your power if you take it and embrace it and stop focusing on it as an insecurity. The more you focus on something as an insecurity, the more other people will focus on it because they know it’s your weakness and that’s how you get affected. Whatever your flaw is, turn it into something that can give you more than it can take from you. If people say it’s a flaw, take it and turn it into a power.”

· Look your best, put on makeup every day, smell good, be well groomed, have nice nails.
· Speak to him as if he's a person and not a child - don't try to control him. Mothers control their children and men don't want to have sex with their mother.
· Ask for what you want, but do it in a feminine way.
· Act like the prize to be the prize.
· Be unpredictable - men will get bored of you if you are too predictable. If you are unpredictable it is exciting to them plus scares them a little too. They will wonder why you are different.
· Don't talk so much.
· Mirror how he acts to bring him closer. Say your man is a bit distant; my natural inclination is to wonder what is wrong, try and talk to him etc. That is clingy, a better way to behave is mirror that - be busy doing your own things, happy but busy and let him come looking for you when he comes out of his cave.
· Be feminine in everything you do - surround yourself with reminders of your femininity - i.e. a pink phone cover.
· Be the receiver not the giver.
· Let him think up ideas, with your subtle input.
· Hardly ever text or call him at work, unless you need him to pick up something.
· Dress up every day for no reason.
· Smile.
· Always be levelling up.
· Have a plan B.
· Don't tell him your plans for the day or where you have been - be a little mysterious and let him wonder what you've been up to.
· Keep the mystery alive with privacy - closet, bathroom etc.
· Don't do everything together.
· Have hobbies and interests of your own.
· Make him feel like a man by asking his advice, seeking help from him, not trying to tell him what to do etc.
· Keep up with new trends and the latest styles. Try new looks, buy new clothes, look cute.

Be unbothered

It’s so amazing to just not care. You have no idea how much better your life gets when you stop caring. When you stop caring about stuff that’s not beneficial to you, everything blossoms, everything. Because your attention is no longer on anything negative, it’s all on you, and so you blossom.

How to keep your man chasing you? Be busy, don’t call him all the time. Have a hobby or a business and let him have to go looking for you.

Did you ever feel insecure about your weight?

“No.

At any weight my mental game was tight, it was good. I could get anything I wanted, so it never really held me back. The only thing that would ever make me feel insecure about anything is… I really don’t have a lot of insecurities anymore. I had the normal insecurities of a child. But when I grew up and I understood that you could take your power from any situation, you no longer have insecurities.

If I was insecure about my weight, I wouldn’t be up here on YouTube, and if someone says something about how I look, I don’t care. I say Okay yeah and so what? I’m eating good, I’m living good. It doesn’t bother me, because that’s not what defines me. I’m gonna get paid skinny or fat. I’m gonna be happy at whatever makes me feel happiest. So it’s all about how you feel about yourself and how you value yourself. You don’t base your self-worth on what other people think about you.

And the reason why I teach people you gotta look good if you want to turn heads and make men cross the room is because if you are trying to get a date, yes, you have to be concerned with what other people find attractive. But that should not ever play a role in your own personal self-esteem.

Whatever you need to feel good at the time, tomorrow or today, that’s what you need to be doing.”
