This is my ranking of every Impractical Jokers episode starting when Joe left. I was going to wait until season 10 was over to post this, but I’m just gonna post it now, as I have no idea if season 10 is done or still going.
I’ll be referring to the episodes by their celebrity guests, but that’s only because that’s how IJ names their episodes. I’ll be judging the episodes as a whole, not just the guest.
I’m only doing mainline episodes, meaning no “sideline smacktalk” or shark week special.
25. Bobby Moinahan
In general, I like challenges where the Jokers have to convince a mark to go along with what they’re doing, but making it so both challenges had that goal made this episode monotonous. The telethon challenge was particularly disappointing, as I think there was a ton of potential to make the marks do a bunch of wacky things, but it wound up being “insult the customer” over and over.
The punishment also felt disjointed. Murr having to annoy and creep out wedding dress buyers was pretty standard, but making him eat his wedding band and then wear a wedding dress to the airport seemed really tacked on.
24. Jillian Bell
The “you’re fired” challenge was a swing and a miss. Not only is it not fun to watch the Jokers just act like jerks of their own volition, but the ruleset is backwards because it requires you to be a jerk and then you’ll lose if you do too good a job. I think this game could be easily fixed if they made the first half be a standard “refuse you lose” and then fire the mark and beg for your job.
The “one more minute” skit was pretty cringey (this is coming from someone who likes the skits more than the average IJ fan) and I much preferred the deleted skit shown on “Filming with the stars”
The punishment was really underwhelming.
The one saving grace was the “Boot and Rally” challenge, which isn’t one I’d want to see again, but was still entertaining because of how over the top it was, and because of how self aware they were that it’s not a good challenge.
23. David Cross
They basically copied and pasted one of the Rob Riggle skits for this episode. Even though the skits are the least important part of the show, it’s still kind of upsetting to see them get recycled.
The challenges were fairly average, with the exception of Max Zoda dragging down Sal’s turn.
I did like the punishment. The post-Joe episodes have been pretty dependent on physically painful punishments, but this one was pretty creative both in using various methods to torture Murr, and in doing it in a context where it seems acceptable.
22. Adam Pally and Jon Gabrus
The babysitting challenge was solid, and I like the choice to play beer pong with the guests instead of doing a skit. In fact, I think it would’ve been better to consistently show authentic interactions with the guests instead of skits. They could even make it a callback to the walking bits from season 1.
Sal’s shock punishment was also pretty entertaining. Although it is watered down by the abundance of physical punishments in this era of the show.
21. Paul Scheer
The two challenges were solid, but the punishment was pretty underwhelming. The overall idea is pretty funny after it’s explained, but the entertainment value dissipates after the first couple rounds.
20. Colin Jost
The ice cream challenge was an improvement over the “you’re fired” challenge from last episode. While it still involved the vague command of “act like a jerk”, they now made the mark a witness instead of a victim, and the Jokers were actually rewarded instead of punished for fulfilling that command.
This episode also opted to show a real interaction with its guest instead of a skit, which again, is a decision I like.
The love guru’s challenge was solid, with the best part being when the guy claimed to know about the relationship expert Murr and Sal made up.
The punishment was entertaining, but again, kind of diluted by how many physical punishments there have been recently.
19. Eric André Returns
Fairly underwhelming as an episode, but never to the point that I wasn’t enjoying it. The best part was Sal talking about his exploding wife.
18. Harvey Guillen
The lawyer challenge was alright. The best part was Q’s “potato chip or two” line, which highlighted the absurdity of how convoluted the contracts were
Having a challenge where each turn was at a different location was an interesting idea, but ultimately didn’t have much impact.
Q’s punishment was kind of underwhelming. When it started with him getting prosthetics, I was expecting him to look radically different and for it to be crucial to the punishment, so I was disappointed when Q was fairly recognizable and it wasn’t necessary for what he had to do. Though the punishment itself was still fun due to the energy Harvey gave it. Plus it had a surprisingly light hearted ending.
17. Paula Abdul
Most of the episode was middling. I was disappointed because I was expecting Paula to have a great dynamic with the Jokers due to them making a movie together, yet she wound up blending in as a guest.
The high point of the episode was the “get my wallet challenge”. I loved the twist of having Cha throw Q out instead of Dan, and I especially loved Q sabotaging Sal by giving him his wallet before the mark could get it. It was oddly nostalgic, as it was the kind of thing Joe would do.
16. Kesha
I really don’t like that they repeated Sal’s shock punishment, the seance setting made it just barely different enough to justify doing again.
However, the “fall in love” challenge was pretty fun, and the debate challenge with MJF was great. I’d love for him to work with the Jokers again.
15. Michael Ian Black
I liked the return of the texting challenge, and Murr chasing the greased up boy was ridiculous (in a good way).
The punishment was fairly standard, but Michael did a great job acting as the straight-man and adding to Sal’s embarrassment.
14. Kim Fields
Murr’s “fuck marry kill” conversation, Q’s mistletoe, and Q eating the dog treats were all fun moments. The punishment felt pretty old school (in a good way) and while Q calling a woman’s bitch briefly dampened the fun, the mood was saved by Murr’s impression afterwards.
13. Post Malone
I liked seeing the etiquette challenge brought back and I especially loved seeing the guy do a 180 after recognizing Murr.
The punishment was clever and Post did a great job fanning the flames between the customers and Q. Though I think it was an odd choice to end it as a man was calling 911 without showing how the situation resolves.
12. Eric Andre
The challenges don’t have any moments that particularly stand out to me, but they were consistently entertaining in a way where it always feels worth my time to watch.
This is a rare time where I’d say the best moment from an episode came from a skit, as I love the idea of Murr being a fictional character.
The one change I’d make is that I wish they cut the opening skit and instead spoke to the audience directly, explicitly acknowledging that Joe left and they would be changing things up. I feel like that would’ve made for a better transition.
11. John Mayer
I don’t like that this episode only had one challenge before the punishment, but I do like that the celebrity guest was involved in both the challenge and the punishment, which I wish was the case more often.
The challenge itself was also fun enough to make up for being the only one. I loved Sal randomly arm wrestling the investors, the constant utterance of “Bro” and Murr’s mark insinuating he hired prostitutes.
10. ALF
The ticket challenge was solid and the phone call challenge was great, especially Sal’s McRib story.
Making a fictional character the celebrity guest was a somewhat risky choice, but I think it worked out. They did a good job integrating ALF into the punishment, and I loved the detail of him thinking Q enjoyed the food.
9. Anthony Davis
I like challenges where the Jokers have to convince the mark to lie, so I really enjoyed the “playing hookie” challenge.
I did not like the second challenge though. I found Steve Byrne’s antics more annoying than funny.
This is made up for by the punishment, which I consider one of the best punishments in recent history. Allowing Sal to opt out of tasks at a price was a clever way of adding stakes and making the punishment standout. The final task in particular was genius, and while it could have been over the line, Anthony avoided that by giving the kid his own shoes.
8. Method Man
The punishment was just uncomfortable and not very fun to watch, but the episode makes up for it with the challenges.
The scientists challenge was great, and the “don’t smirk” challenge was possibly the funniest segment in the whole post-Joe era. I personally think the “no smirking” rule was a bit excessive, and a rule against laughing would’ve been plenty, but the content of the challenge was hilarious, and that’s what matters.
7. Bruce Campbell
The Rosanna Scotto challenge was alright, with the most interesting part being when customers defended dumpster diving.
The waiter challenge was great. I loved Murr’s “who’s paying?” bit and Q constantly trying to improve the women’s ribs.
The punishment was great and felt like something we’d get in the older seasons. For the Bobby Moynihan episode, I mentioned that parts of Murr’s punishment seemed tacked on, and that’s not the case here. Each step of Q’s punishment felt like a natural extension, and Campbell did a great job as the overly demanding director.
6. Bret Michaels
The Grocery Roll was a great challenge to kick off the COVID restrictions being lifted. Murr and Sal each had spectacular Pratt falls.
The hide and seek challenge was a welcomed return. While I wouldn’t want it to become a staple of the show, I think it’s a great game to throw in once every couple of seasons to shake things up. Sal genuinely wondering if he can breathe in the fridge, repeatedly trying to close the door on himself, and hurting his arm on the third attempt was very stupid in the best way possible.
Murr’s punishment was a mixed bag. The armwrestling, bowls of soup, and Paul Rudd showing up out of nowhere were all hilarious, but whenever a mark is furious and has their face blurred, I go from enjoying the discomfort to just feeling bad for everyone involved.
5. Rob Riggle
The taste test challenge was great, with Q’s mark being one of the funniest of season in recent history.
The workout challenge was even better and really recaptured the magic they had in earlier seasons. Murr’s “wrong/good” workout and Sal’s refusal to accept help were particularly great.
The punishment was also solid. Murr having to stay still while mostly naked was simple and effective, and they were able to create a wacky enough environment around him that there’s more to keep things entertaining.
4. Chris Jericho
This is the first episode that made me realize IJ can make great episodes.
The Joint Gravy challenge was absolutely hilarious. Especially Sal’s turn.
The focus group challenge was also great. I’d be happy if they made Jiggy… not the fourth Joker… but the official stand-in whenever they have a challenge where they need to pair up.
The two skits were both really good. The opener was grounded and reserved, while the mid-show skit was ridiculous in the best way.
While I’ve said that IJ has gone a bit overboard with the physical torture punishments, I think this one was well done. It was creative to let Q alternate between various painful tasks as he wanted, and I loved how he was dependent on Sal’s mom to end the punishment. I really wish she started getting involved in the show earlier, because she’s hilarious.
3. Kal Penn
Having to sell a product after coming in through the window was hysterical, both in concept and execution. All three turns had a completely different feel to them. Murr was slimy and confident, Q was overly enthusiastic, and Sal was completely desperate.
The eating challenge was similar to the “Boot and Rally” challenge to me, in the sense that it’s not something I’d want to see again, but it was made funny due to the Jokers being self aware about it not being a good challenge. Murr’s frustration at Q and Sal saying they’d just take the thumbs down was 10X funnier than if they actually attempted the challenge.
The punishment itself was solid. It’s a simple but effective idea, and revealing that it was Sal’s breath that stunk was a great ending.
2. Blake Anderson
They brought back two challenges that had each only been done once before, which could be risky, but worked out great.
The “phony fees” challenge was a welcomed return. Johnna did a great job making the charges seem legitimate, and the woman constantly praising Q was amazing.
The Yearbook challenge was also really good. The gag about them all being married to Melissa reminded me of the organic humor we got back when Joe was on the show.
The punishment was my favorite of season 10. It has a juvenile charm where I know what Sal’s doing is really dumb, yet am root for him to get away with it.
1. Brooke Shields
Brooke gave the same energy as a guest that I was hoping to get from Paula Abdul.
The opening skit was great, largely because of how well Brooke sold the role of a fangirl.
This was the first time we saw the celebrity guest participate in a challenge, and it was very fun to watch. The girl trying to dab while in a suitcase was hilarious.
The “Brooke of Love” punishment was genius. We’ve seen challenges that convert to punishments before, but it was always done on the fly and/or kept secret from the joker being punished. Having everyone know that whoever loses will be punished immediately was a really unique approach and I hope they do something similar in the future.
I also love the idea of a dating show where the guys are all trying to be as unappealing as possible. Sal’s rap, the return of Stanley Merkle, and the hushed trash talking (trash whispering?) were all fantastic. I know the show (usually) doesn’t repeat punishments, but I’d love to see the challenge be done again, even if it’s without the instant punishment at the end. It could be in the context of a dating show again, or it could be something like a job interview.

As I look through many different posts in this forum, I can't help but notice a recurring theme where people are saying that the 2024 Pats defense will "take a step back" because "Bill the GOAT" is gone, and this honestly does not make sense to me at all.
Don't get me wrong, that 2023 defense was a very good unit without doubt (fewest yards allowed per rush attempt in the league), but they were still prone to making dumb/costly mistakes and had bad performances that a supposed "elite" defense SHOULD NOT be putting out. Please bear with me as I list all the 2023 games and what went (or didn't go) wrong for the defense in those games;
Eagles Week 1 - No complaints here, they played GREAT against the defending NFC champs, they just got unlucky with the Slay pick-six, Zeke fumbling away short field position to set up the Eagles only touchdown, and Jake Elliott nailing all 4 of his LONG field goals. Dolphins Week 2 - Defense did a solid, not good job limiting Tua and the passing game, but proceeded to let Mostert BULLY them on the ground by allowing 120+ yards on just 18 carries and 2 TDs. Jets Week 3 - Again, no real big complaints. A wet, miserable game where both offenses struggled and both defenses had field days, plus Judon got a safety. Although Dugger almost ruined everything on that final hail mary when he swatted the ball RIGHT TO R. Cobb, who thankfully slipped on the turf and couldn't get it. Cowboys Week 4 - A game we all want to forget about. I really don't remember anything about the defense in this game other than that they allowed 17 points and both Judon and Gonzalez got hurt. I'm sure there were ACTUAL defensive lowlights from that game but it's not worth going back and looking. Saints Week 5 - The other HORRIBLE game we'd all love to wipe from our memory. Only thing worth noting is that the defense struggled WAY MORE against both the pass and run in this game than they did against the Cowboys for some reason. Raiders Week 6 - Raiders rookie tight end Michael Mayer would end his rookie season with 304 receiving yards, he had nearly a third of that total in THIS GAME ALONE. On all 5 of his catches, there wasn't a single defender within like 15 yards of him, enough said with that crap. Bills Week 7 - We can all probably agree that this was our favorite game of the season, and while the defense did good, it still isn't safe, because they allowed that flukey Diggs touchdown where Jackson and Bryant failed miserably to tackle him and allowed that 4th down conversion near the end that eventually allowed Buffalo to score the go-ahead touchdown before the Pats game-winning drive. Dolphins Week 8 - Abysmal officiating aside, the defense allowed every 4th down Miami attempted to be converted as well as those 2 big wide-open touchdown passes, the one to Hill is slightly embarrassing, but the one to Waddle is pathetic and totally inexcusable. Commanders Week 9 - Within the 2-minute warning of the first half, Commanders had the ball at midfield on 3rd and 23 and the Pats defense had a chance to get the offense the ball back to potentially add to the lead the Pats had before halftime, but they proceeded to CHOKE HARD by allowing Howell to SCRAMBLE for a first down, keeping the ball in the hands of the Commies, and while they would force an interception in the endzone, it was too late at that point to try and get points. They also (along with special teams) kept committing stupid penalties that took away time of possession. Colts Week 10 - The first of a 3-game stretch where because the other team couldn't score more than 10, everyone was convinced that the Pats defense was "elite", when in actuality it was more of complete ineptitude displayed by the opposing team's offenses. In this game, Gardner Minshew wasn't sacked ONCE, and if I recall correctly he was only pressured or hit one time by Barmore and that was it. This failure to bring down the QB allowed Minshew to tear the Pats weak AF secondary a new one at least a couple of times. Additionally, this has nothing to do with the defense, but at one point Bill stupidly had the punt team do an all-out blitz in an attempt to block a punt, which failed because it ended up being a good punt with no return man on the field to get it, costing them lots of field position. Giants Week 12 - The Giants won 3 straight games with undrafted QB Tommy Devito as the starter. He had a 100+ passer rating in all of those games, where he went against the ATROCIOUS defenses of Washington and Green Bay, and the "elite" defense of New England. I know the Pats offense was trash in that game, but if the defense still allows Devito to have a good performance SOMEWHAT similar to the one he had against the Commanders league-worst defense, that is a problem. Chargers Week 13 - The final game where the final score is deceiving as hell. The Pats rushing defense was unstoppable without question, but the passing defense was lowkey BAD. The secondary got very lucky when Herbert's receivers dropped 4 or 5 great passes from him. Herbert very well could have had over 300 yards passing that day if those drops didn't happen. Again, 6-0 is more telling of the bad offense from both teams as opposed to good defense. Steelers Week 14 - Not too much to say. They played against Trubisky, and limited him to less than 200 yards passing, picked him off and held VERY strong in the red zone, although they almost blew it at the end. Chiefs Week 15 - Intercepting Mahomes twice in the same game is certainly something to be proud about, but he still threw for over 300+ yards when the entire Chiefs offense was a chaotic mess at that point. Broncos Week 16 - I was already a fan of Barmore, but he played GODLY in this game. With 3 sacks in a single quarter and pretty much singlehandedly preventing the Broncos from scoring at the 1 after Zappe immediately fumbled at the start made me love the man even more. However, the defense still allowed the Broncos to come back from a double-digit deficit near the end, but still held strong for the win. Bills Week 17 - The defense was basically set up to fail 3 times in a row when Zappe threw those horrible picks, giving up extremely short field position and a free 6 points to Douglas. Credit to the defense though, the only RZ touchdowns they allowed were the 2 Allen tush pushes, but they still gave up that deep ball to Kincaid. Jets Week 18 - The dreadful snow game where the defense had absolutely no answer for Breece Hall, but honestly, who even cared at that point?
Two other things that contradict the defense being "elite" in 2023 was that one, they didn't score a single defensive touchdown all year long, and two, they had maybe the 6th or 7th fewest forced turnovers in the league, which honestly doesn't sound elite to me.
With all this being said, I genuinely don't see a reason to think the defense will regress next year just because Bill is no longer coaching. The defense's strongest units in 2023, by far, were the linebackers and the line. Who coached those units? Mayo and Covington. Who is the new head coach and new defensive coordinator? Mayo and Covington. So the defense will still be very strong in those areas, mix that in with Judon and Gonzo returning (and hopefully staying healthy), Barmore developing into a star, and Pepper and Dugger finding rhythm as one of the best safety duos in the league, I'd say, if anything, the defense will AT LEAST be just as good as it was last season, and we as a fanbase should be VERY OPTIMISTIC for what the defense can do next year.

Every summer the sun comes out and the dudes take off their shirts. And I can't leave my house because I'm reminded that I can't do that in front of anyone. I couldn't even change in front of the other girls in the locker room in gym class, I'd feel obscene.
As a historian, I'm keenly aware men used to only go topless in homo-social situations where it was just men. About 100 years ago men fought for the right to go topless in public beaches, sharing space with women and children. The reason swimsuits were unisex was because 100 some years ago in America obscenity laws were equal for everyone.
Women have spent the past 100 odd years fighting to breast feed in the same spaces men can go shirtless, or anywhere people eat (like restaurants); it was in effort to stop feeding babies in public toilet stalls. Makes sense. Only the so-called female nipple has a practical function to be exposed.
Obscenity laws for our "bottom parts" make sense since they function in private and ought to function in private, whether to evacuate urine/feces or for sexual relations. It is precisely because of these functions the "genitalia" are banned and considered nudity.
Now, if women want to beat the heat, they better work out that booty because swimwear is about showing off the backside cheeks. However, I guess I grew up being told to cover my butt up, so that's not an option I'd do in public. I don't want people staring at my butt.
Meanwhile, even I'm wearing a tight so-called female swimsuit top it shows off the entire shape of my chest leaving nothing to the imagination the dudes walk around topless without the extra layer of spandex-y type material that is really trapping heat and annoying. Sure, should be moisture wicking and stuff, but women's swimwear seems to trap in the heat. Padding is like wearing little miniature winter coats on my chest, on each "boob," which for me draws attention to that area in more ways being topless would not... Does this make sense?
I'm supposed to show off the shape of my breasts while keeping them covered. I'm supposed to wear itty bitty triangles over them and prevent "nip slips"... let alone I'm expected to shave before I go out in public in these skimpy swimsuits which leave nothing to the imagination.
Men, however, get to throw on baggy shorts and they're ready to go. The prep time is nil. Unless he's in speedos no one is seeing the literal shape of his nether regions. I have supposedly no choice unless I put on even more layers. Shorts and shirts, sweltering in the heat, surrounded by topless dudes who I never gave my consent to frolic around me topless.
Used to be I advocated for equal rights and women going topless but now I just think men should cover up. The conservatives are using their children (girls mostly) to protest seeing a topless "boy" (actually trans) in the locker room. Apparently all this time unbeknownst to me girls don't want to see that. But at the pool, beach, playground, park, street, backyard, frontyard, etc, it's unavoidable. It's totally legal. Males can expose themselves outside the locker room all they want.
When do we accept this as... acceptable public behavior? We know it's nudity, but we must pretend not to notice it. Females are not covered up for having breasts, it's for having nipples. Well last time I checked, dudes have nipples. So that's a double standard.
Sure, this comes down to some primal jealousy I have but for all my life I can't enjoy the summer air the same way. I feel defective, not sexy, and why would I want to feel "sexy" in front of the public of all ages? Why should we say it's cool if men go topless because some of them are sexy, this is a family beach. We say we don't want groomers and pedoPh!les around our kids, who are mostly men let's face it, but we allow strangers to walk around our children topless and think it's OK.
If some topless dude sent your young teen a photo of himself topless, he's not being obscene? It's not nudity? I'd say lock that creep out, because if a woman did the same thing she'd be in prison.
It's rude and most dudes I ever met who go topless around kids/women are usually very narcissist and want that power over others. A sort of Look what I can Do but you Can't.... in addition I'm 42 so starting to have those hot flashes. It's impractical for me to wear more clothing but I'm basically indecent all over, from the bottom to the top. It depresses me so much, always has.
Wearing a sundress to air myself out is not helping plus dictating if only I changed what I wore I'd feel less hot in the sunshine. Put the dudes in sundresses too then. See how they like it.
We should all wear wetsuits. This inequitable definition of what is nudity has only resulted in over a century of men feeling superior for the most overlooked reasons --- they can mow the lawn half naked, they can walk down the street half naked, and no one will tell them what to do. The only places practicing good reason are the No shirts No service shopping centers. We should go back to decency laws, that apply to everyone equally. If men want to be topless, go back to the bathhouses where it was acceptable before and usually almost always places for gay men to frequent to "see topless dudes" DUH...
If nobody wants to see me topless, then understand this--- I don't want to see your dads and sons topless around me. Cover up. Show some respect to women/girls. It is at least disrespectful to flaunt and exercise this law around girls/women--- it is at worst abusive and done without remorse. "I don't care about your comfort, only my own".... it teaches misogyny.
But it's "too hot for a shirt!" Stop it. Apparently it's never been hot for me, I must run cold blooded...

I (18F) have always known my dad (53M) wasn’t the most healthy person in the world. For some context on my family and to make sure it’s a whole picture i’m basically going to trauma dump, so TW for sexual assault i guess? When i was two he and my mom(48F) got a divorce because he was using drugs and alcohol to cope with some of his past traumas, while never putting in any work to get past them. After the divorce he ended up being put in prison after receiving multiple DUI’s (im not entirely sure how it happened exactly, i was two or three when he was locked up) and it got him locked up till I was six. My mom, despite having every reason to speak badly of my father, never said anything negative about him. She would take me to visit him, let me read the letters he sent me (when i actually could read, and she would write my replies down for me), and always let me talk to him when he called. We lived with my grandparents while he was locked up. After he got out he spent a long time working to get past his unhealthy coping mechanisms. He lives with his parents for two years and i would visit often. When i was eight he finally had a stable enough job to have both me and my mother move back in with him. I was young, and stupid, and when they asked me if i was okay with it I said yes. We moved into a single wide mobile home in my dad’s home town. My entire life was uprooted and replanted. I began classes in my new school and was bullied for most of my time there. I was told to “suck it up, bullies aren’t that bad.” even though in middle school i was pushed down a very steep flight of stairs and almost broke my arm. My grades began slipping and i went from a gifted child to a burn out really quick. My dad would yell at me and my mom for my grades, then get mad when i couldn’t understand how explained something to me. By thirteen i was suicidal and it was “an attempt to get attention” according to my dad. He had begun to pick fights with my mom over the littlest things. The house wasn’t clean enough, she didn’t make dinner fast enough, my room was a mess. (it was the size of a medium sized walk in closet.) And then my older (half) brother moved in with us. He (32M, let’s call him Michael) had never had a stable life and my dad coddled him because he felt like he had failed him. He had, but Michael was always a screwed up dude, so it only added into it. Anyways, over the course of the next three years my older brother would come to sexually assault me about five times over the next three years. We ended up moving into a larger house when i was about fifteen and i ended up going into counseling and learning that i had been groomed and conditioned to be basically unaware of the trauma inflicted on my by my brother since i was a kid. My dad, when i was seven and my brother a teenager, would turn a blind eye to Michael basically bashing my head into the island counter whenever he would steal something like food from me. My grandparents would always intervene and he would call me a whiner. At night he would tell me all sorts of things and make it seem like he was my only friend in the world. He kept doing it my entire life. My father, who had stopped drinking, had begun again because my grandfather was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and has been fighting for him life since, it’s been about eight years i think since they had to pull him out of remission because the cancer came back. This is when he really became a nightmare. Depending on what type of alchohol he drinks his mood goes a few ways. Whiskey and he gets angry. Tequila and he gets all sappy and lovey dovey(this makes me very uncomfortable because he hasn’t ever been very openly affectionate), beer and he’s just a happy drunk, and wine and he gets sad. Sometimes it switches up but normally this is how it goes. After i finally told my parents about my brother and what he had done and him getting kicked out, he began to bury himself in alcohol. I had to get over it fast because he was blaming anyone within pissing distance. Eventually he would cry to me about how he had failed him son, to the daughter that his son had raped. it was really fucked up, and he only ever said that when he was drunk. (I want to say that my dad isn’t an inherently terrible person, he didn’t have a good life growing up and generational trauma hits hard.)He has been using drinking as a way to escape reality for a long time. It’s caused a great deal of arguments and both of my parents asking “what they do to deserve this” while my dad accuses me of treating him like garbage (he says the same thing to my mom). We’ve had to leave the house and spend a few days with other people before because i was scared he was going to hit us instead of the walls next time, multiple times. The most recent bought of fighting has been happening over the last three days. (for more context i moved out right after i turned eighteen, i became a manager at my workplace and was able to live with friends) I’ve been visiting my family and spending time with them since i haven’t really had time the past few months. I guess my mom found out that he had been receiving nudes from other women on messenger and wanted AT LEAST an apology. My dad blamed it on a married friend who was using his phone. it was a lie because he’s been receiving them almost every day. and commenting on them. it makes me sick to think about. he has begun blaming my mom for it. saying she ruined our old house, that she has to one up him, and saying “do you really wanna go there?” while he was the one who fucked up. After screaming at each other for nearly an hour he said he wanted to break up. My mom spiraled and wanted to kill herself. Her psychiatrist that she had a tele-health call with that day, asked me to basically watch my mom to make sure she doesn’t kill herself. I took her pills and asked my dad to lock up his guns. he took this as her “one -upping him”. Yesterday while i was back at my apartment i got a call from my mom explaining that he had gotten drunk and had told her to kill herself. She had left and was at a bridge to watch the water. I drove back in a panic since i live a town over. Today, my father was drunk again and asked me to go spend time alone so he could screw my mom. I didn’t want to be there so i showered and got ready to leave. Turns out their conversation had shifted and he was berating her for “not letting him discipline me”. I guess that after years of pent up anger never being touched on, i finally snapped and began yelling at him. I called him a hypocrite and he called me a bitch. And basically i left as he began to destroy things around the house. That was after i told him if he kept going this way i would cut contact. I’m currently sitting at our outdoor sports complex writing this because everyone i know is busy and i don’t want to bother them. I just needed to get it out. I don’t know if cutting contact is the right thing to do. Of if it makes me an asshole. I’m only eighteen. I don’t know what to do anymore.

Prepare forces and calvary to terrify them (8:60)
If they incline to peace, then incline to it (8:61)
Consume what you took of spoils (8:69)
Strive with four property and lives (8:72)
Help those who seek help within the deen (8:72)
Bear tidings to those in kufr of a painful punishment (9:3)
Kill, seize, ambush, and restrain the mushrikīn once the inviolable months have passed (9:5)
Release them if they repent, and perform the prayer, and render the zakāt (9:5)
If a mushrik seeks protection, grant it,.until he hears His words; then escort to his secure place (9:6)
Fight those who make not unlawful what is unlawful (9:29)
Fight until the jizya is payed (9:29)
Give the Rabbis and Monks tidings of a painful punishment (9:34)

Lash those who accuse chaste women with insufficient witnesses with 80 lashes, and never accept them as a witness (24:4)
If you, as a visitor, are asked to leave, then leave (24:28)
If you are a man, lower your gaze (24:30)
As a woman, you should also lower the gaze, you must additionally not reveal adornment except what I’d apparent, and you should cover the bosom [except to listed people] (24:31)
Give in marriage the unmarried (24:32)
Abstain if you find not marriage (24:33)
Emancipate those who seek it, if there is good in them, and give them of your wealth (24:33)

Step by step I trecked deeper and higher into the mountains. Reprieving myself from the human world and embracing the cold, windy and slate ridden world that is the mountains. They were my home long ago, I feel almost at ease with the freezing wind gusting against my back and through my short-spiked hair. I say almost because slipping and cracking my head like an egg is a very real possibility I’d like to avoid. The summit was still a ways off, but I enjoy the climbing aspect best anyway. Finding the correct hand and foot holds, the strain on my muscles hauling my whole weight and my view of looking over the ranges of valleys, mountains and the far off wooded foothills and of course the fjords. It was truly freeing in a way I couldn’t describe. I’d equate it to looking up and watching the entirety of the night sky. Not just looking at one facet but embracing all indiscriminately and seeing it all in conjunction. It makes you feel insignificant and tiny to nature's machinations. Though that feeling doesn’t come close to reaching a peak. I was traveling through Jarlsburg, a Nordic province that was covered with ice, snow, and fjords. Herders and merchant men mostly occupied the area, farming was practically impossible with the constant cold fronts and not many cared for the job anyway. It was encroaching midday by the time I had nearly reached the summit, when an eagle the size of a leopard swooped at me. Its talons landed square in my back. I lost a foothold and slipped, though I recovered with the grace of a fat fingered invalid. I’m glad no one could see my near colossal fuck up. It circled around for a second attempt and missed me entirely, that’s when I realized it didn’t care for me at all. It was actually after a family of tiny mice hidden in a minute alcove, the entrance was hardly the size of my fist but would make a good foothold. The small rodents all had giant ears in comparison to the rest of their body and their fur seemed to be a yellow in colour. I decided to continue moving up so the eagle wouldn’t have a third attempt on my life. Once I got to a higher point I stole a moment or three to watch it soar. He was graceful, each flap of his wings pushed him further and further into his own realm of freedom. If I was stupid I’d think it a god of Asgard, descended to mingle with us mortals. He had bright brown feathers with black spots on his beak, it stuck out like a sore thumb with all of this snow. After a short time of climbing I finally reached the peak. I wasn't quite up with the clouds but they were significantly closer to me now than 5 hours ago. It’s like I could almost touch them but my reach was bound to my conquered rock, preventing my falling demise. I could see so much of the surrounding area. There were so many branching rivers leading into giant fjords, the land itself was almost entirely white with ice and snow, this solidified my belief that farming was impossible. The terrain was hilly and mountainous, a field couldn’t possibly take shape under its current conditions. Despite that I could see the two villages; Jarlsburg itself and Nautic Row, Jarlsburg was a village of merchants, business and debauchery. It was regularly abuzz, almost everyday new ships came and went. Whereas Nautic Row was smaller and held firm in fishing, herding and raiding other nearby villages. Many of the people kept to themselves unless it was to trade or gather at a Thing. Both villages were littered with vagrants if you ask me. The trees looked tiny in comparison to the villages, like little toothpicks with white appendages jutting from the ground. I tried to take in the scenery all as one. Almost like it was breathing, you don’t just take in the parts of air you need. You take it all indiscriminately and let it occupy a space within you. I breathed in as much as I could of the summits thin, crisp air. I listened to reverberations of the wind off stone, and tasted the tiny specs of snowflakes that finally began to fall. The sun had prepared to enter early evening before I decided to make my descent. The reflection of light on the snow was blinding but it was very reminiscent of the ocean, the way the light bounced towards me also reminded me of lizards skin in glistening sunlight. An ear to ear grin had slowly crept its way onto my face as I realized the perfection of what I was witnessing. A memory that would stay with me forever, something only I alone could cherish wholeheartedly. In this time I had made it back to the family of big eared mice. The eagle had snatched a few of the babies but the two larger ones looked over and fiercely protected the remaining younglings. I can attest as they tried to nip my boot on my way down. I passed them by though I was somewhat saddened and sympathetic to their loss of family, it can be difficult. It was difficult losing my own but we work and push ourselves further than where we were yesterday. Loss is a frequency in most people’s lives and if you don’t learn to adapt with it, it can take you down a dark and depressing spirality of despair and emotion. Those willing to change and evolve their principles or values survive, but many cling to the past and wallow too much on what they had. Not what they have. Me, I am content as a traveler, experiencing the human condition and learning for myself about all walks of life. Having nothing to my name can be bothersome at times but with a few days work anywhere, I can scrape together some coin to continue pressing forward. Shepherding flocks to new grazes is a nice way of working as I can read while I watch over them. Wood carving is another small job I enjoy, you can make some handy things with a chunk of wood lying around. But whatever I don’t buy or trade, I hunt. It’ll take some time for me to return to Nautic Row. I'll have to camp at the foot of the mountain to wait out the downpour of snow. I called back to a memory of a small cabin with smoke billowing out of its chimney. I’m sure the inhabitants will let me stay if I can hunt some food, hopefully an unfortunate rabbit will cross my path as I get lower down the mountain. Speaking of getting lower by this point I had reached the halfway point of the mountain and the sun was about to touch the horizon. I began my scout for game trails and tracks that lead into brush. Not having much luck I pressed forward, though I could still be too high. The cold was certainly starting to creep in now, snow began seeping into my boots and trousers. It could be a problem in a few hours but I think I’ll reach the base before then. After 2 hours of more or less skipping over rocks I had made my way to an inlet of trees where stone started to recede and squishy, muddy snow took its place. There was surely something still out and about looking for a morsel. The forest was thick with flora despite the time of year, the evergreen pine trees looked to be hundreds of feet tall. If I was gonna find a rabbit, here it would be. The looming canopy of leaves above made it all the more darker, hiding the moon's light from me and every other creature within the thicket. After spotting a dead game trail, I decided to give up on my search for wildlife and make way for the cabin. It had become too cold and even looking was a hearty task I struggled with greatly. Perhaps I can rent out my services of work in exchange for a night under some shelter. Even a meal if I’m lucky. In the distance, between the trees of the Black Forest I spotted a light. It was that of a campfire, I almost threw my caution to the wind desperately wanting to feel unrestricted warmth. But my better judgment kicked me upside the head and I decided to be sure if they were friend or foe before approaching.

(by "incident" I mean Sayu's kidnapping of course, trying to avoid spoilers in the title)
First thing, let's establish I don't think Light wanted to kill or sacrifice Sayu. I think he did love her, he wanted her to be safe, and her death would absolutely be an outcome he would want to avoid if it all possible.
However I often see the argument that letting the kidnappers get their hands on the notebook is an automatic loss and Light has nothing to gain from saving Sayu, therefore his love for her is the only motivating factor. That if her welfare wasn't his highest priority he would have everything to win by just killing her (or not engaging at all with the kidnappers) and keeping the notebook. This isn't actually true though; the problem with this viewpoint is it's not taking the bigger picture into account.
So for fun here is a counter argument...
There are several good practical reasons for Light to want to go through with the trade, as outlined below. Btw, I won't even touch the matter of how her death would narrow down the list possible suspects to only those in the Task Force, since Light himself speaks to that several times in the text and it's been discussed enough before.
Sayu's safety aside, the main problem is this - someone out there KNOWS what the real power of Kira is, and more than that, they know the NPA's Kira Task Force currently possess it. And it's demonstrated fact that this unknown person (or group) are willing to do anything to get it and even have already gone to the lengths of targeting Light's family.
So, here's some 'other' ways Light benefits from making the trade:

1. Light has no idea who the kidnapper is. Before the trade is agreed upon, Mello made sure no details slipped by that could compromise who is behind it, only intentionally letting their general location (the USA's west coast) be known. But by making the exchange the kidnappers will presumably have to reveal certain things about themselves and potentially there's the possibility of seeing their faces and learning their names. Ideally they make a misstep somewhere along the way can be caught in the act, and of course Light doesn't predict he'd be outsmarted by a group of criminals. The chance of learning who his antagonists are so that he can eliminate them - both for vengeance now and to prevent future trouble - is a strong motivator to go through with the trade.
   
2. It's obviously not ideal to let the notebook slip away to someone else's hands, and Light of course isn't happy about relinquishing it...but it's not an end game, unrecoverable situation - and Light is always willing to rise to a challenge. Remember Light still has two additional notebooks and Misa's eyes, the resources of L and cooperation of the FBI. He also thinks (mistakenly) that since there's currently no Shinigami attached to that notebook, the kidnappers won't be able to make the eye deal and gain more power than is granted by the notebook alone. To Light this is a temporary setback - if he can learn who the kidnappers are, he can use these resources to strike back against them and regain the notebook they took.
   
3. If Sayu is killed by Kira, is it reasonable to think the kidnappers would just shrug and be like 'oh well we tried, GG"? Of course not, we saw that when they lost the first hostage. This is a powerful enemy that has no boundaries and will keep relentlessly coming; who knows what tactic they'll use next, what resources they have at their disposal, and who the target will be - Soichiro? Light's mom? Light himself? Will they reveal the Death Note's existence to the world? Sayu dying would be a lose-lose situation for Light because then not only is his sister dead, but the threat and uncertainty remains and the enemies' attacks will keep coming over and over until they get what they want.
   

It's strategically more sensible to go along with them now, under these known (and to be honest fairly easily accommodated) conditions and demands, rather than risk dealing with ongoing and increasingly escalating attacks in the future. And if he can catch them in the act now and nip it in the bud, so much the better.
And actually, this is basically Light's stated reason for going ahead with the trade as shown in Chapter 62 this exchange:
Ryuk: "...I guess you even have a soft spot for your sister, huh?"
Light: (thinking to himself) "That's not all. With this explanation no one will ever suspect us, especially my father or me, of being Kira. The problem is whether the kidnapper just wants the note...or if he's thinking of turning against Kira."
The wording "thinking of turning against Kira" is a little strange because it implies the kidnapper was pro-Kira at one time, but perhaps its just an awkward translation. Anyway the point is Light explicitly identifies this as "the problem" - whether the kidnappers will be satisfied once they got the note to use for themselves and then go away...or are they targeting Kira, is this an existential threat to Kira himself? If that is the case they will keep coming for him whether or not they have the notebook.
Light's ego could never allow this sort of defiant provocation to stand, and he's not one to cower away. Not only that but he's been languishing for four years, he's starting to get complacent and bored again but this turn of events presents new challenge to take on, something to get fired up about. It's in his character to do everything in his power to find and confront his attackers head on.
Again I'm not arguing Light didn't care for and want his sister to be safe, certainly that was one of his priorities. But it's tiring always seeing it said that protecting her was his ONLY possible motivation and he ONLY did so at his own disadvantage.
To say that the easy and best way out for him (if he was willing to do it) would have been to alert the broader police agency to the situation and use that as camouflage to just kill her - or not engage and allow her to be killed - is an oversimplification at best and just flat out wrong at worst.

As I’ve been listening to Trump trial podcasts and watching the daily cable news coverage of the NYC hush money trial (which typically lasts longer than the trial itself), I keep wondering: “Is everyone mentally prepared for the big letdown?” From Geroge Conway to Rachel Maddow to Andrew Weissman, everyone in Never Trump seems convinced that he will be convicted, and it will have huge impact on his campaign. I hate to break it to everyone, but no matter how much the pundits gin you up, the odds of that happening are very slim. This case has always been a “lose/lose” for us, and it should never have been brought in the first place.
First, consider the odds: The prosecution needs to convince 12 people beyond a reasonable doubt, while the defense only needs 1. If I had to pick between being right 100% of the time or being right 8% of the time, I’d take the 8%. All it takes is one, lone juror to decide they don’t like Stormy Daniels profession or they find Michael Cohen to be a dishonest scumbag (which he is) and the jury is hung. If a Trump supporter ran the gauntlet and slipped on to the jury, we’re done for. Also remember, these jurors claim to know next to nothing about this case, which means they’re probably not the brightest, most well-informed people in the world.
Second, we have to hope that the jurors ignore the law. As much as I loathe Trump, I have to admit that this case has always been weak sauce, because it is comically overcharged. Falsifying business records (which the prosecution has done an excellent job of proving) is a misdemeanor in New York state, punishable by a fine of $1,000 and up to a year in jail. Bragg has tried to “step up” this misdemeanor to a felony, by claiming that the falsification was used to cover up another crime. In this case that’s “New York” Article 17 - Violations of the Elective Franchise 17-152 - Conspiracy to Promote or Prevent Election,” which reads:

§ 17-152. Conspiracy to promote or prevent election. Any two or more persons who conspire to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means and which conspiracy is acted upon by one or more of the parties thereto, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

That’s neither a single sentence from the statue nor a summary - it’s the entire statute. That’s it, folks. This obscure, ill-defined, little law was written in the 1970’s and has only been used once in New York history, for charges that were ultimately dropped. The entire clause hangs on the words “unlawful means.” Please note that “election interference” (everybody’s favorite little bit of vaguery) does not make an appearance. We all know what “unlawful means” means vis-a-vis elections: Sending your armed goons down to polling places to intimidate voters from voting. Stealing boxes of ballots. Attacking counting centers. Poll taxes. The fake electors scheme. Robocalls telling people they will be arrested on site if they vote.
Trump, however, didn’t use any illegal means. Adultery is not illegal. Hush money payments are not illegal. Colluding with favorable media outlets is not illegal. Scummy yes, illegal no. Most importantly - trying to keep negative information about your candidate from hitting the press is not felony election interference! If it is, the DA better be prepared to arrest and try every single politician in NY state history, along with their campaign managers and staff. There is no law anywhere on the books that says the electorate is entitled to know every bad thing a candidate has ever done or else it’s “felony election interference.” The whole idea is preposterous. If I hear this spurious argument one more time I’m going to have a brain aneurysm. Even if Trump is convicted, 17-152 is a misdemeanor! Just like the original falsifying documents charge. Are we going to send someone to jail for 4 years over 2 misdemeanors? If I litter (misdemeanor) while jaywalking (misdemeanor) do I become a convicted felon who gets thrown in Rikers for 4 years? C’mon.
Some pundits are still making the campaign finance argument, which fails on several counts. If you argue that David Pecker’s participation amounts to an illegal campaign contribution, then the State’s beef is with Pecker, not Trump. If you argue that Trump contributed $130,000 to his own campaign via Cohen, that’s also not a crime, as candidates can contribute unlimited money to their own campaigns. They even paid taxes on it, negating any tax evasion argument! Lastly, and most importantly, this was a Federal campaign subject to FEC laws - Bragg is out of his jurisdiction here. Finally, the FEC already investigated this issue and declined to bring charges. The campaign finance argument it moot.
If any one of the jurors follows the text of the law, were’ done for - and the State knows it. That is why they’re trying to introduce as many smarmy, salacious, extraneous details and characters as possible into the mix. They’re trying to paint Trump as the low-life, scummy, lecherous degenerate that he is, in hopes that the jurors will ignore the law and just say, “ Man is this guy a scumbag, we’re convicting him.” It might just work - as long as the jurors go with emotion over the law. But it’s a gamble.
Meanwhile, regardless of the verdict, it’s a lose-lose for Democrats. A hung jury will play the same as an acquittal in the mainstream press. Trumpkins will say “We told you so!” Never Trump will be despondent. Independents will think, “I guess this was a witch hunt, so the other trials must be too.” Since this is the only trial to go to trial before the election, it would be a PR disaster.
The sadder truth is that a conviction, although preferable, won’t play much better. Even if convicted, Trump is not going to jail - period. He will file an appeal that will take years, and he’ll most likely win, as the application of this statue is absurd. More importantly, a conviction won’t move the needle one iota with voters. If you doubt me, consider this: Trump ignored and then horribly mismanaged Covid, told us to drink bleach, then hit the links while over 3,000 Americans died each day. One million Americans died needless, horrible deaths under this man’s watch - and it didn’t move the needle. He was convicted of raping and defaming E. Jean Carroll - and it didn’t move the needle. He staged a months long, multi-faceted coup attempt, culminating in a 12,000-person bloody attack on the US Capitol, the first since the Civil War - and it didn’t move the needle. He was convicted in a NYC court of a lifetime of business fraud totaling a whopping half a billion dollars - and it didn’t move the needle. What kind of voter is going to say to himself, “Ya know, I’m OK with the raping, the one million dead Americans, the lifetime of business fraud, and the bloody coup attempt, but…...….’falsifying business records’ is a bridge too far!” Nobody, that’s who. The best we can hope for is a tiny bump that will evaporate within a week.
The Mar-A-Lago documents case was always the slam dunk here, followed closely by the January 6th case and Georgia. But due to Milquetoast Merrick Garland’s cowardly years of delays and Jack Smith’s tactical incompetence, we’re stuck with this.
