im 19 and in my second semester of comm college.
I wanna go to art school and study animation, i love art so so much. I wanted to apply to art school in my senior year of highschool but i didnt come up with a portfolio i was proud of to submit to schools with, so i told myself id take a "gap year" by going to cc and working on it, seeing what seemed plausible from there. I havent done anything. and worse then that, i fell into some a depression right as my second semester started. my first semester, i got all As. my second, im literally not going to pass a single class because i couldnt bring myself to do anything. if i wasnt stressed out by one thing, it was another, and its a vicious cycle of me being overwhelmed and embarrassed of myself and intimidated by everything i had to do. i kept telling myself and my advisors i would and i still couldnt bring myself to. i feel so useless and stupid and i dont know whats wrong with me. i know ive been through some bad stuff but it cant seriously have been bad enough to warrant this kind of incompetence??
and i think the most frustrating part is that this isnt the first time. its not the first time ive gotten myself excited at the thought of a new opportunity and genuinely WANTED to work towards it and ended up falling into some kind of pit ive always had to barely climb my way out of. its happened multiple times since middle school and i always mourn who or what i couldve been if i was more functional. i know im not stupid, far from it, but god i feel so stupid when im at a low like this. i cant ever seem to learn my damn lesson and i dont know what my problem is. all i know is that i dont wanna keep living like this. i hate this. its not that i dont wanna live, thankfully. mostly, i like who i am, who i can be as a person, what im capable of. but this feels. so pathetic.
i dont know what im gonna do now. so many deadlines for certain schools have passed, so many deadlines for certain scholarships have passed, things i know i couldve been at the very least a solid competitor for if i had put my best foot forward, but i never can. my options are so limited now. i got accepted to an animation program in LA, but the deposit is due by the end of this month and i dont think its reasonable for me to go. my parents keep saying "if its what you want to do, go for it" in attempt to be supportive but i dont wanna go $300,000 in debt for art school for an industry that is in shambles because of passion. i know pursuing art already is a gamble, and i want to have faith, but i dont know about "insane student loan debt" faith, even with whatever financial aid they could offer me. what about housing?? id have nowhere to be! even more money!
even if i did make that work, i wouldnt be able to bring my 8yo dog with me without being the worst owner ever. i know that sounds dumb on paper but shes everything to me, shes the reason i kept going after all these stupid depressive pits, and genuinely going away for 4 years might actually haunt me for the rest of my life. i get emotional just thinking about how shes getting older. i just dont think i can handle that heartache. what if i did manage to somehow get a place for myself, but then i just had to work all the time i wasnt studying??? she'd be alone and itd be so unfair for her and id feel awful but id feel awful without her anyways-- but i really really want to study animation in california.. i dunno.
my safe option was a school in the city i go to that has a decent enough program, and i applied, but for some reason i got notified my app was considered incomplete because my damn hs transcript didnt get through to them and it took like a month to confirm it was submitted afterwards. now, ive reached out to their admissions about the status of my app, made multiple emails and calls, and i cant get ahold of anyone who can help me and im so so scared. if i at least dont have this as an option, i literally dont know what im going to do. im so scared. the only other school i am confident ican apply to still and get into is still an art school in cali with rolling admissions, but id still have to grapple with the tuition/housing situation and i just dont know if ill be able to figure something out. i feel like a failure with nothing to show for myself.
so now im failing basically a whole semester of my classes, have no idea what the hell im gonna do for next semester, and the stress and anxiety is only multiplying exponentially, i keep stress eating and its weighing on my mind even more because ive been trying to lose weight, and have made good progress, but i keep hitting this damn plateau and its just another thing on top thats making me feel worse about myself.
i feel so mediocre. i feel like wasted potential. i know im smart and have strong ambitions but i have nothing to prove that. i just want to feel good about myself, get a job, not feel exhausted all the damn time regardless of how much i sleep, feel good enough to draw what i love consistently enough, not eat away the feelings of my stress. i want to create and learn so so much. i want to feel refreshed and love my life and i know i can get there but it feels so out of reach. im so tired of being like this.
i dont even know what i can do going forward to get myself out of this. none of my friends know just how bad i have it right now and honestly im too ashamed to admit it. im probably going to send this to my counselors, see if i can take at least some of these classes during the summer or something, but i have genuinely no idea what is going to happen with me and im so terrified that i feel eternally paralyzed. i cant even taken my damn daily vitamins. its almost like nothing even feels real to me anymore, im just existing.
at the very least, ive asked various friends of mine to hold myself accountable for going to the doctor tomorrow. i cant and dont want to live like this anymore. i feel stupid and i need help. it wouldnt even be the first time ive tried but i guess im gonna have to be serious about it this time because even if things works out, no way i wanna fumble art school and what i care about. im just so scared of everything right now. i dont know what im gonna do. i dont know what i can do. hell, all of this is just my worries about my work and myself and doesnt even scrape the surface of family troubles. i feel like im drowning and i need to apologize to every professor and counselor that has had a shred of patience with me. i just want things to get better, to not feel like im somehow broken or incompetent on a level other people aren't. i need help :(

I have been playing this game for a bit. Currently gear level 63.
I feel like vbloods are really great fights when they do not have summons or just wander arround random mobs. I have killed Vbloods that stand in an isolated arenas such as Ziva(60) fine. Even some wandering guys such as Angram werent too bad because I lured him outside of the village he is in.
But now I am trying to kill the wanderer and the spider and those VBloods are just surrounded by friendly(to them) mobs. I don't have the damage output to kill those mobs fast and focus on the boss. And the wanderer is literally just running arround atracting mobs. Its a cool concept, but there are just too many mobs, with too much health, and too much damage output if you mess up for just a second.
Also if you die you can just count of spending the next 10 minutes just going to get you stuff and that is if you just ignore most mobs on the way.
I am using duskwatcher gear, explosive shooter pistols(20), illusion magic wolf and spear and storm magic raging tempest, i have decent jewels on my most used spells, had a 90% creature blood when trying the first few times, was using buff potions, I have 5/6 of the tier 1 passives... Even then I can get the spider to about half health before I die or just have to run a bit to heal and it resets. When there are a bunch of mobs its really hard to find an opening to heal with pots.
I am not playing solo, so I can call in a friend to help out, but I feel like the game should not be telling me I am matched to these bosses and these mobs if I can only defeat them in isolation.
I do love this game, but I have felt very underpowered playing it so far. I am always chasing whatever increases my power just so I can move arround freely in some parts of the map... Yes that can be fun, but I was expecting to feel more powerful at lvl 63 with basically the best stuff I can muster...
Sorry for the rant.
Since I know some are going to say it, I don't care if you think the game is stupid easy and that I suck at playing it. There are different levels of players, if you are good at it, great, but you don't need to go arround spewing salt for no reason.

I am using duskwatcher gear, explosive shooter pistols(20), illusion magic wolf and spear and storm magic raging tempest, i have decent jewels on my most used spells, had a 90% creature blood when trying the first few times, was using buff potions, I have 5/6 of the tier 1 passives... Even then I can get the spider to about half health before I die or just have to run a bit to heal and it resets. When there are a bunch of mobs its really hard to find an opening to heal with pots.
I am not playing solo, so I can call in a friend to help out, but I feel like the game should not be telling me I am matched to these bosses and these mobs if I can only defeat them in isolation.
I do love this game, but I have felt very underpowered playing it so far. I am always chasing whatever increases my power just so I can move arround freely in some parts of the map... Yes that can be fun, but I was expecting to feel more powerful at lvl 63 with basically the best stuff I can muster...
Sorry for the rant.
Since I know some are going to say it, I don't care if you think the game is stupid easy and that I suck at playing it. There are different levels of players, if you are good at it, great, but you don't need to go arround spewing salt for no reason.

i (22, afab, they/them pronouns are preferred) have relatively large than average boobs. unfortunately i’ve been extra sensitive to the materials that are put on my skin my whole life, tried going braless a few years ago in my teens and never went back. i even tried wearing binder for 2 years period going about my gender identity exploration/experiment, didn’t like it either so i just gave up on that part.
as for now, i am completely fine with myself not wearing a bra on a daily basis. theoretically speaking i don’t mind my nipples being exposed through clothing since i don’t really just go about trying to impress anyone like that they’re literally none of my concern. the only purpose is about sensory comfort lol.
however, when im around nt people, in my workplace for example, i would still feel extremely self conscious by the potential gaze and unwanted judgement not only from the creepy men but also some women with internalized misogyny, even though for context i’m already lucky to be in a pretty open and diverse big city. that shit unfortunately is still very much present.
i know that it’s literally unfair that i don’t wear a bra to feel more comfortable in my skin, only for that to backfire and still makes me uncomfortable in another way. i just feel so overwhelmed and quietly but constantly attacked by super hostile social expectations for the female body and gendered self expression that im scared shitless about going outside and literally wish i was invisible sometimes. it might not be that serious i might be exaggerating it a bit but it’s still a pain combating my inner demon over this personally traumatic experiences yet possibly trivial or irrelevant for some others lol
now summer is approaching and i’m literally at a loss what to wear that i can’t even stand the thought of leaving the house. yes i could just go all xxl baggy tee but all i have is my old style that’s mainly deathcore bands merch which are not so workplace appropriate especially when ive been trying so hard to blend in not getting looked at weird. yes simple fitted tops can look good if not risking accentuating my chest again drawing unwanted attentions. pasties help but not even that much in most cases… apologies for getting all ranty.
my question is: does any of y’all have experience with this and how do you cope? what is a styling strategy that works in summer? any insights or suggestions would be appreciated. thank you!

As for what day-to-day faith looks like for religious packs, it naturally varies greatly from region to region, but generally consists of two goals: attracting the attention and admiration of their chosen gods to ensure that said gods will want to keep them in the next iteration of the universe, and maximizing the influence of their favorite gods to ensure that they'll have the power to do so, by advertising and proselytizing for the god in question, donating to temples, or even becoming a pack of religious scholars. Those who are casually religious only do the first task; those who are devoutly religious do both. Like so many other aspects of Kyanah culture, the north-south divide, likely caused by the large number of impact ranges on or near the equator, plays a huge role in religious practices.
For northern hemisphere cultures, religion is usually a personal and private matter, handled primarily at the pack level or even, to an extent, the individual level: it is not unheard of for individuals to worship one or more gods on their own in addition to those that the rest of their pack worships, especially when said individual is from a different region or culture than the rest of the pack. Attitudes towards this from the rest of their pack can vary from acceptance to indifference to hostility. Gods with a large local following in some city-state often have one or more temples devoted to them, where offerings can be made to the relevant god; they will often sell thematic items that can be sacrificed as sacrificed as gifts to the temple's god, with the idea being that giving up time and worldly resources demonstrates faith and loyalty that will make said god want to keep them in the next iteration. Additionally messages and questions to a particular god can also be directed to religious experts (who may or may not live at the temple, depending on the local culture and which god the temple is devoted to) termed toryatkiot (literally "student", as in a pack who studies a particular god, learning about and in a sense "from" them, to understand that god and their behavior; though "monk" would be a more human-centric translation). These temple visits are occasionally done by packs to more effectively keep their names in the minds of the gods, or when turning to faith to solve some crisis, but for more everyday worship, where the services of professionals aren't needed or there isn't a temple nearby for a particular god, many packs will have private shrines in their own homes; as an analogy, using these shrines is kind of like cooking at home versus going to a restaurant. Major gods in the northern hemisphere are often quite commercialized, with plenty of merch and popular media centered on them.
In the southern hemisphere, religion tends to be somewhat more centralized and communal, with regular, periodic mass-worship sessions for various gods, where religious leaders explain key aspects of a particular god, and instructions on righteous behavior and gaining their favor, to the gathering. The gods themselves aren't so often commercialized in the south, where it's more common to see them in a more abstract and impersonal light (almost more like processes than beings), and Kyanah in southern cultures tend to be less likely to be atheist and more likely to be devoutly religious. However, being deeply and fundamentally religious does not generally equate to a "thou shalt not have fun" attitude; on the contrary, these mass worship sessions are frequently filled with drunken revelry, lots of food, and loud music...there has to be something to draw in congregations, after all. On the other hand, authoritarian governments in the southern hemisphere frequently use these mass worship sessions as an efficient way to spread propaganda to the masses, with some even making attendance mandatory for this reason.
The Kyanahs' general distrust of social structures and institutions larger than their own packs extends to their religious views as well; just as there aren't discrete religions with labels, there aren't high level religious leaders with global influence like a Pope, nor definitive holy books that huge sections of the population acknowledge as the truth. The Temple Alphas in the north will often only oversee a handful to a few dozen packs of toryatkiot, and even in the south, mass-worship sessions have no more than a few thousand packs at the absolute maximum, and usually far less, on the order of dozens to maybe a hundred. That is not to say that there aren't theological texts with broad appeal, that have sold millions or even billions of copies over decades or centuries, and been translated hundreds of times, but most Kyanah won't be like "this is the one true holy book, no other religious book could possibly have anything useful to say" and instead pick and choose whatever teachings they want from whatever texts they want. Not doing so is in fact seen as uneducated and spiritually lazy behavior that is unlikely to lead to being retained in the next iteration.
Also common to both hemispheres is the general desire to be remembered and liked by at least one god, a desire which manifests in their culture in several ways. "Forgotten" or "broken up" is probably the closest translation to the human term "damned"; "may you be forgotten" is a very strong insult in many cultures. Similarly, rather than being buried or burned, dead bodies are usually taken out into the wilderness and left in the open to desiccate, with their packmates being brought to rest with them when they die. When one member of a pack dies, the others will often build a cairn at the pack's final resting place; stacking stones is a common Kyanah art form in both religious and secular contexts, and different types and shapes of stones often have specific meanings. Rich and powerful packs, especially in ancient times, would often commission large and elaborate monuments at their final resting place to really draw the attention of the gods. Also of note is that religion and science have rarely been in serious conflict on the Kyanah homeworld; as the gods are believed to act in a predictable and logical manner, science can simply be reframed as understanding and predicting the actions of the gods. Indeed, many packs who have made great scientific discoveries were also devoutly religious, and in general, religious adherence has not declined by much even in the wake of advanced science and technology. Depending on the time period, global prevalence of atheism tends to range between 10 and 30 percent for at least the past few centuries, often spiking during tumultuous times when many Kyanah have doubts about a self-optimizing universe. The exact prevalence of atheist views can be much higher or lower depending on geographic region as well.
Of course, Kyanah religious beliefs are often twisted and manipulated by those seeking worldly gain, much like human religious systems. There are corrupt toryatkiot who convince others that they can buy their way into the next iteration, in order to make a tidy profit. Mass-worship leaders who spread government propaganda disguised as religious teachings. Cultists who make up gods solely for a self-serving agenda. Politicians who start religious wars, believing that the best way to spread the influence of their favorite gods is at gunpoint. However, state institutions do seem to have largely secularized in recent centuries, a trend that has accelerated with the decline of Utopianism, with the gods being used less and less frequently as a direct justification for political and military action.

So just wrapped up GTA IV and made I think every decision that makes sense to Niko.
In my heart of hearts anyone who could be spared would be, except Francis Mcreary and Playboy X. It just did not seem in character for Niko to really side with some he doesn’t respect, someone who cons him into doing so much dirty work with no really shred of integrity or morality. Niko resonates with Dwayne and Derrick because he sees aspects of himself in them, and he’s got a huge problem with betrayal. Playbox and Francis both initiate hits on undeserving friends, on top of their mountains of delusions and self serving nature.
Niko would not spare traitors or men who wishes him harm or his family harm, or tried to abuse him or take advantage of him for his work. Ray, Mikhail, and Vlad were all people Niko let no room for because he did not respect them for their usery or low character. The users and men of low character must die.
That’s why Revenge is the only option that makes any sense. The game has shown nothing but Niko doesn’t really care for the American dream or whatever it is Roman wants, he’s seeking something deeper and more meaningful. He wants peace in his world in and of itself, and he’s willing to destroy anything that would try to come in the way.
So you can imagine my surprise when I googled the other ending just now and saw all the people who were arguing “narratively it makes more sense because Roman dies” which is close to the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. The entire game Niko has shown himself to be compassionate, kind, (and in my version) merciful whenever he can be, but he would always be absolutely ruthless to anyone who meant harm or abused him or his work.
Everything narratively makes way more sense even if you’re on a pacifist run sparing everyone, there’s no way knowing everything Niko knows about people like Dimitri the deal would have ever happened. The character has shown you time and time again revenge was the only way it would end.
Anyways that was a really good game and I’m glad with the ending and choices I got. I’m on to GTA V and I’m excited to see what new guy I get to be. I know it’s about heists or whatever, but it’d be cool if they bring Niko in so I can catch up with him and Roman.
Outside of the “skip phone call” button being the same as the “enter vehicle” button it was a relatively perfect game. Wish they let me date Kiki sooner, too. 10/10

You see, however cool and easy the cyclical explanation of history and/or ideology may seem, I don't think there is such a thing as clear-cut cycles and neither do I think it's always the same. No, generations don't go through exactly the same phases, the world is much more complicated than that, there are genuine and unique changes that only people going through can really feel, appreciate and understand.
And yes, there is a difference between feeling nostalgia for the 50s, feeling nostalgia for the 80s and eventually feeling nostalgia for the 2020s. There is that tendency in every humoan to feel nostalgia for a past period but other than this most general predisposition, nostalgia for every period is a unique phenomenon. Naive takes such as "bro, it's just like the last time, there is a 30-years cycle, you'll see" get on my nerves. And quoting a roman author who complains of the youth being rude and disobedient doesn't mean he has had the same experience as you or that he has gone through the same time period as you or that you can simply predict what will happen based on what happened then.
And no, the future is non-linear. You won't have a repeat of 2010s fashion in the 2040s or massive boom of nostalgia for 90s shoegaze in the 2030s. Or at least, there is no way to predict if this will happen and you're all making stuff up.
