Optimising first lenses for the A6700
2024.05.20 06:06 Fluroblue Optimising first lenses for the A6700
Hey there
I've looked at a couple of first lens posts and came to a conclusion that I was hoping to get some feedback. I hoping for mainly landscape, architecture, wildlife, and trying out astrophotography. In order of priority, I was thinking:
- Sigma 23mm 1.4 (For wider landscape)
- Sony 70-350 G (Wildlife, architecture, landscape)
- Sigma 16mm 1.4 (astrophotography)
Although prime lens would be better, I see some zoom lens that people recommend that might combine that first and third option? Like a solid zoom lens in the 15-~50 range? Any recommendations?

2024.05.20 05:01 After-Army4984 First Camera
Hi, I am planning to get the Sony A6700 with the Sigma 18-50mm for my first camera. Will this be a good first camera especially for travel? I have a safari trip coming up, will the lens be good enough? If not, what other lens can you suggest for wildlife photography that is budget friendly that I can add? Thank you all

2024.05.20 04:14 Selvannus Nikon Lenses?
I have previously been taking photos with a point and click, and just bought a Nikon D5100 from my parents. It came with a 55-300mm lens, but I’m finding it a bit disappointing. What would you all recommend as a good lens for a budget of about $1000? I was looking at the Sigma 150-600.

2024.05.20 03:53 PerpetuallyPerplxed Wide Angle Zoom Recommendation
Hello,
I recently moved from an M6 II to an R7. My everyday lens is an adapted Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art (EF mount), which I really love. On the M6, I used the 15-45 kit lens for wider work.
I am now looking for a lens to address the wider end of the spectrum. So far, I have two candidates:
Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
If I had my preference, I'd like a lens that was a little wider.
Thoughts on these two? Are there others I should consider?
TIA

2024.05.20 00:37 Total_Mountain_9449 Beginner narrowing down options
Hello! I’m a newbie, looking to be able to get sharp pictures that are higher quality than a phone camera. I’ll be taking mostly nature shots, birds, squirrels and close ups of insects. Also want the option of taking pictures of my art work for my website (I’m a stained glass artist)
I’m looking to stay under $1k for the camera body and save up for lenses as I know I want either a sigma or tameron 150-600mm eventually.
I was originally looking at the rebel t7 kit that comes with a 75-300mm lens however I’m concerned with the shutter speed and older tech.
I’ve now turned my focus to either a EOS R50 or a Sony A6100 or A6400. Of these, what would you recommend knowing my goals? Also, what lens should I get to start with for either of these? The A6400 I am looking at comes with a E18-135mm lens

Recently got a Sony A6000 with a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN lens. What kind of photography is this lens best suited for? I was told it’s a well rounded lens that can do it all but I can’t understand how. Would love to do portraits and nighttime city photography.

2024.05.19 22:46 JeanDaMachiine Why are dedicated 35mm scanners so slow compared to dslr/digital scanning?
Looking into buying a plustek 8300 for 35mm scanning but also debating with getting a Valoi easy 35mm. I have a micro 4/3 8 megapixel scanner that shoots 4k and a sigma art 24-70mm lens (not sure if that's macro enough) but I could buy a dedicated macro lens instead. My question is why are dedicated scanners so much slower. It seems like there must be some drop in quality otherwise manufacturers would make faster scanners. Also do you think this alternative setup would be comparable? Thanks for any advice.

2024.05.19 22:08 Gold-Razzmatazz-5167 How much better should I expect from Nikon lens vs. Small brands (Meike)?
Hey all, a student hobbyist here. I am looking forward to buying my first 85mm Nikon lens and I noticed a smaller brand (Meike) offers an appealing 85mm f1.4 autofocus lens at 470 USD, vs. the Nikkor Z 85mm f1.8 at 700 USD. I wonder if the Nikkor series is really worth the 200+ price gap with higher aperture? In general, what do we expect from the top brands like Nikon Zeiss Sigma vs. the smaller brands like Samyang? I am heavily leaning towards the cheaper option for the bang of buck. But there must be reasons why people prefer the original over third parties. Thank you very much!
