If anyone would ask me how would I describe my experience with HA, I would say that it is glorified Yak Shaving. If you don't know what it is, google.
I mean... I have been playing with HA for >2 years. With HA before you do most of basic things, you will have to end up shaving a lot of yaks doing a lot of other stuff that are necessary to make the thing you want to accomplish working.
I was setting up a new HA instance with sensors on Zigbee, Z-wave, 433Mhz and wifi. And amount of yak shaving I had to go thru was quite extensive:

• Zigbee: had to upgrade Sonoff stick coordinator firmware that included watching youtube videos, reading blog posts, creating account with TI, downloading TI software, disassembling the stick, and trying to upgrade firmware. Took half day
• Z-wave: it took three days to figure out how to enroll Schlarge keypad lock with Zooz 800 series stick. Who would tell you that you need to unenroll the device first because factory reset does not resets it and for enrollment you have to keep your Zooz stick within 2" from the keylock.
• Nest integration: I had to dig out my GCP account that I have not used for >3 years, reset password, get API enabled, pay $5 and spend half day trying it to get the information that HA would use
• Weather station that was mounted on deck: I had to install HACS, install custom repository, install custom integration, download manufacturer's app on my phone, use app to upgrade firmware, use app to configure custom settings for the weather station, use custom settings with the custom integration to be able to pull station data
• Sonoff S31 energy monitors: they are wifi and cloud. So I needed to open them and flash Tasmota inside with USB-serial adapter. At that moment I just gave up and downloaded Sonoff-LAN via HACS
• Determine how many hours per day Nest is running heating or cooling: had to create template sensors, define history-stats in config, download ApexCharts and create 35 line code to see it.

Thankfully, despite the huge distance he and Oleander had to travel from Toronto to Long Island went calmly, for the most part, with not many delays or monsters attacking them.
Well, at least until they reached New York. After that, the whole “calm journey” was out the window. It almost seemed like all the monsters decided to wait until they were close to their destination to suddenly appear one after the other. First they had to somehow avoid a cyclops. Then they were attacked by dracanaea. And finally, they were chased by harpies until they crossed the border of Camp Half-Blood.
By some miracle, they were still alive.
What a way to be introduced to demigod life.

Taylor's arrival at Campbell Half-Blood was… something, alright.
You know, being chased by monsters from New York to Long Island, passing out in between attacks and then waking up in the Medic Cabin feeling like you've been hit by a truck and maimed by a cat at the same time was, in short, not fun. It also didn't help the fact that he had to stay in bed to get treated for what, hours. Which, for someone like Taylor, was absolute torture. Good for him then that demigods, apparently, had magic healing and he didn't have to stay for days instead. At least Oleander was around to explain every detail about the world he's been thrust into now that he was out of danger. And as a plus, he was also claimed, so yay! He had no clue who Techne was, but he was sure he would learn soon enough.
So, what does Taylor do after getting patched up? Does he wait and rest for a bit just to make sure everything is okay with him? Does he stop for a moment to process everything that has happened to him in the last 24 hours?
No! Of course not! This is Taylor, after all. Him staying put for more than 10 minutes would be a miracle already.
Instead, he just went off on his own to see what this Camp Half-Blood was all about. He just had to get to his cabin first, which would be relatively easy with Oleander's instructions, and then he could explore this place to his heart's content!

Hi, I'm currently attempting to replicate some of the behavior observed in this paper at the 3D level and in CompuCell3D. One of the terms in the energy function is the preferential attachment of cells to elongated cells rather than well-spread cells(equation 3.7 in paper). I was thinking of switching from using the Contact plugin to using the AdhesionFlex plugin but struggling with how to set it up so that it behaves similarly. I had checked previous posts and there was this post that had this same question but I did not see an answer as to how to accomplish the same behavior achieved with Contact plugin.
I have placed below usual XML code I use for the Contact plugin and then XML code for AdhesionFlex plugin for how I'm thinking is how I'll need to convert from the Contact plugin. Within the python Steppables file, I was thinking I'd give a higher "adh_C" molecule density to a cell with an external potential in the x-direction($\lambda_x$) at the Monte Carlo step where it becomes elongated. This will cause higher adhesion between this cell and its neighbors as the cell with an external potential migrates, which should allow for sprouting. Then I'll use the MomentOfInertia plugin to check if other cells have become elongated near the sprout, using a ratio of the max axis to min axis as an elongation index, and then increase their "adh_C" molecule density so that their neighboring cells adhere more to them and the sprout continues to grow.
I'd greatly appreciate any help in switching between these plugins and any more information I need to have a better understanding of how the calculations are done for both plugins.

People often talk about how AI could pose an existential threat to life on earth. Often cited among these fears are methods such as bioterrorism, where an incredibly sophisticated virus with high levels of contagiousness and lethality could decimated human populations.
Something I have been thinking about a lot is the actual strategies that a misaligned AI or bad human actor would use to cause as much damage as possible.
It seems to me that all of the conventional methods would be ineffective due to the fact that they are conventional.
It is highly likely that by the time we have systems capable of building bioweapons, we will have systems with superhuman medical knowledge, and the ability to perform bio-defence. Such a system could conceivably create something akin to an adaptive vaccine that can defend against bioweapons, or would have the ability to detect new infections nearly instantly and design treatments orders of magnitude faster than current methods.
Why would an extremely intelligent AI system use an attack vector that is widely recognized and has countermeasures in place?
It seems that a much more effective strategy would be to target natural systems that humans rely on to make earth habitable. I’m talking about ecosystems, more specifically climate terrorism or ecoterrorism.
One example of such a strategy would be the targeting of phytoplankton. Phytoplankton are responsible for 95% of the primary energy production in marine ecosystems, and 50% of photosynthetic energy production globally. They are the most vital source of energy for everything that lives in the ocean. They are also responsible for regulating carbon cycles.
If you wanted to cause as much damage as possible, disrupting phytoplankton would be at the top of the list. It would destroy marine ecosystems and throw off nature’s delicate balance, causing catastrophic ripple effects worldwide that would lead to food instability, rapid changes in climate and the collapse of ecosystems worldwide.
Disruption would not be that difficult. Imagine an invasive species of phytoplankton that can outcompete all other species, reproducing at an extreme rate and being incredibly resilient to allow it to live in every aquatic environment. This itself would do incredible damage to worldwide ecosystems, even without maliciously designed biology.
What if this species of phytoplankton produced toxic byproducts that accumulate within its cells? Or perhaps its genetic code harbours a retrovirus that propagates through marine ecosystems and eventually into humans.
This strategy also benefits from reduced discoverability and delays in identifying the problem. By the time scientists figure out what’s going on, it may be too late to stop the chain reaction.
All that to say that there is an infinite number of attack vectors a sufficiently advanced AI could use to cause massive harm. So many options that it is impossible to prepare for them all. So rather than trying to develop responses for things like nuclear risks, mass misinformation and bioterrorism, it’s easier and more effective to focus on alignment as a preventative measure. Just like how it’s easier to prevent a disease than to treat/cure it.

Talk about apocolyptic dreams ! I was in a park with some god fearing friends colors were vivid as they could be , clouds were rolling in and suddenly there was a crack of thunder unlike any I had heard before, it went through my conciousness like the voice of a god come to weigh the right and wrong. the sky had a black cloud encircled by white clouds and the hue was golden orange and red like many dreams I have had over the years. Hello! I'm finishing med school on Saturday (yay!) and will take some time to regain energy before moving forward with the nexts steps. And what better way than downloading and emulator and playing Pokemon Crystal! I havent played in years and I'm really rusty so I need some advice.

End Event: Power Theft The event starts players around Mt. Anon. The event starts with an anomaly opening up at mount anon and from ot, Romeo the admin appears and steps out laughing maniacally “it is time, people of aphrodite. Time that I take this islands power for my own!” Romeo then rises up into the air, hovering above the center of mt. Anon.. then 2b rushes up the side of the mountain and slashes Romeo with the virtuous contract, causing him to yell out in pain for a moment before quickly composing himself and fires a blast of lava towards 2b, knocking her off the mountain and onto the ground with a thud. He then fires another blast, attempting to finish off the islanders of aphrodite, but monika forms a shield of code that absorbs the blast before closing it. “Don’t worry about him, we’ll stop him before he can do anything harmful” monika says, and then both cloud and travis run up to the mountain, weapons drawn- and then in sync, they jump up into the air and travis performs quick and powerful slashes with his beam katana, while cloud fires multiple blade beams at Romeo, greatly damaging him and knocking him back down onto the mountain, as they both fall back down sure they’ve beaten him.. and they took that moment to rest, but just then as soon as they let their guards down.. romeo began laughing before getting up and dusting himself off and commanding his army of prismarine colossus to rise up from the water around the island and attack everyone on it. Then saying “Now, back to absorbing this pathetic heart of yours” and forming a small protective shield around himself and firing two guardian beams at the center of the island, glamrock freddy then throws everyone a Fazer blaster to stun the colossi, allowing the rest of them to fire at them while they can’t move. Romeo then attempts to pull the power heart out, causing a small tremor as the power heart is ripped out from the core of the island, then once it’s all the way exposed he begins using the beams to absorb the crystallic energy. once the first set of colossus fall, another one walks up from the water almost immediately, and then monika seeing this, says “it’s no use. They just keep coming..” then she gets an idea, and says “alright, I have an idea. But- it’s a risky one..” “if the powerheart becomes corrupted, then it’s dark energy will drain the energy and power of anything making contact with it..” “but, as the heart is what controls everything on this island.
