From 9 a.m. Saturday, when families began making their way to the Second Congregational Church’s front lawn, to the unveiling of Greenfield’s 12th bee sculpture, “Fearless,” outside the Greenfield Fire Department’s new station on Main Street at 12:30 p.m., more than 1,000 people of all ages stopped by this year’s Bee Fest — the largest attendance the event has seen since its inception 14 years ago, according to its founder Sandy Thomas.
“It’s off the charts, we’ve never had this many people. We clicked in [counted] 500 just a few minutes ago, but its got to be more than that now,” Thomas said at 10:30 a.m. “These people came from Wrentham specifically for this because they’re new beekeepers, they heard about it and they just came. It’s wonderful, they keep coming and they want to learn about bees.”
The roughly three-hour festival honored the Rev. Lorenzo Langstroth, the sixth minister of Second Congregational Church who is known as the father of modern beekeeping. Langstroth patented the bee hives with movable frames in 1852, a design still commonly used by bee keepers today, according to Franklin County Beekeepers Association President Art Canterbury, who manned a bee education table with a live beehive demonstration at this year’s festival.
Canterbury engaged with curious festival-goers, educating them on bees and beekeeping, and answering questions ranging from best beekeeping practices, to general inquiries about the nature of bees and their colonies.
“My grandfather kept bees and I worked with him when I was a little kid. Now it’s just the easy attachment to go right back to and enjoy it and develop it,” Canterbury said. “This community loves the idea of bees in general and pollinators like to have that exposure and understanding of the bees [...] The colony of bees itself is a super organism. Everything that they do is for the colony. There’s not a bee in there that’s only doing something for itself.”
Children, many sporting elaborate bee costumes, marched through the farmer’s market for the Pollinators Parade and took turns swinging at a bee pinata. Families also centered around the beehive painting station, putting their unique marks on beehives that will be used at apiaries across Franklin County. Thomas said since bees are capable of sensing color and design, the practice of hive painting could make it easier for bees to find their hives.
The festival also featured a silent auction of bee-related products, bee-related games for children, a pollinator plant giveaway table and a 214th birthday cake for Langstroth. Katie Rozenas-Hanson and Rick LeBlanc of the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources also operated an informational booth, where they distributed sunflower seeds and informed the public on best practices for planting pollinator plants at home. Rozenas-Hanson said she was pleased to see how effectively the festival engaged children.
“This event is so wonderful because it’s evolved from a festival that’s mainly for the general public, to being really kid-focused and having a bunch of free activities for kids to do to engage with bees, learn about beehives and best apiary practices — I just can’t think of a better event for them to go to,” Rozenas-Hanson said.

** Sculpture unveiling**

Bee Fest wrapped up with the unveiling of the city’s 12th bee sculpture “Fearless,” depicting a bee dressed in a firefighter’s uniform, in front of the new fire station on Main Street. Before the unveiling Fire Chief Robert Strahan announced that the department will begin moving into the station this week before a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 10.
Designer Rachael Katz, an artist and owner of The Greenfield Gallery, produced the original “Beatrice” bee sculpture prototype. Over the past three years, her first 11 bee sculptures have been installed along Main and Federal streets, at Court Square, and at the John W. Olver Transit Center. She said that while the other bee sculptures took identical forms with unique decorations, she and the sculpture’s painter Andrew Easton wanted to give the “fearless sculpture” a unique character and form.
“For most of the other bees, the form just served as a canvas, and the artists painted images upon it. And this one we really wanted to make a character in and of itself — it’s not decorated with pictures of fire engines, it’s an actual character [...] it’s our firefighters, they’re there for us. They’re heroes and they charge into danger and it just seemed right to honor them,” Katz said.
Easton, who said he spent roughly 160 hours painting the “fearless” sculpture, put significant work into not only painting the bee, but arranging various elements, such as the oxygen tank on its back and its “343” fire helmet, which he said was a tribute to the 343 New York firefighters who were killed during 9/11.
“This is a special honor for us. There is a personal story that goes along with this bee, and we are humbled to have it at our new headquarters,” Strahan said.
Mayor Virginia Desorgher, who joined Strahan and the artists as they removed the tarp from the Fearless sculpture, said she was pleased by how the annual festival has evolved and grown over the years.
“It gets better and better every year, there were more people from out of state this year than I’ve ever seen,” Desorgher said. “It’s very exciting.”

In my apartment (Chicago), there is plumbing or structural issues that lead to constant leaking of water (twice to three times daily that requires constant mopping). The maintenance staff had been informed of this issue two months ago and have been coming in to check on it but so far nothing has done to fix it. Today the water leakage got a lot of worse and caused my closet to be completely flooded and created multiple puddles of water in the kitchen. I used my closet as a storage place as well so a lot of important documents and electronics that were stored in boxes (on the floor) were ruined.
What sort of actions should I take to recover the finance loss from my property damage and emotion stress of constantly having to mob? I am not really familiar with tenant law in Chicago but I heard in some cases you can withhold rent or something like that? How can I get my landlord to compensate me for my property damages?
I am a little hesitant to go through the legal route with the landlord because the apartment is managed by a law firm itself so the landlord herself is an attorney. What should I do to protect myself and rightfully exercise my legal rights in this case? Thank you!

iOS 18 iPhones may soon have ChatGPT

OpenAI will bring ChatGPT to iPhones. The integration is expected to happen with the upcoming iOS 18. This could significantly enhance the user experience and expand the capabilities of Apple's virtual assistant, Siri.
Parallel to negotiations with OpenAI, the tech giant is also engaging with Google's parent company, Alphabet, to integrate the Gemini chatbot into Apple's devices. These ongoing talks, however, haven't led to an agreement yet.

SoftBank’s Arm Holdings all set to come up with AI chips in 2025

SoftBank's subsidiary, Arm, plans to develop AI chips and launch them in 2025. Arm is establishing a dedicated AI chip division and targeting a prototype by spring 2025 and mass production by autumn. SoftBank will contribute to the initial cost of 10 trillion yen ($64 billion).
The AI chip business could be spun off to SoftBank. Negotiations with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (TSMC) and others for production capacity are underway. The move reflects rising demand for AI chips, which has boosted Arm's share price since its IPO in September.

GPT-4o: 2x faster, 50% cheaper, 5x rate limits than GPT-4 Turbo

OpenAI unveiled its new flagship model, GPT-4o (“o” stands for “omni”). It provides GPT-4-level intelligence but is 2x faster, 50% cheaper, has 5x higher rate limits, and enhanced text, voice, and vision capabilities than GPT-4 Turbo. It also matches GPT-4 Turbo performance on text in English and code, with significant improvements for text in non-English languages.
GPT-4o can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 ms, with an average of 320 ms, which is similar to human response time in a conversation. It is available in the ChatGPT free tier and to Plus users.

TikTok tests ChatGPT-powered search results

TikTok is testing a new search feature that uses AI to generate results for some queries. For certain search terms, like recipes or product recommendations, TikTok will display AI-generated answers at the top of the results. These answers are powered by ChatGPT, and when you click on one of these AI results, it takes you to a page with a full response.
TikTok is also testing "search highlights," which appear at the top of some searches. However, it's unclear whether these highlights are AI-generated.

Meta explores AI-assisted earphones with built-in cameras

Meta is currently exploring AI-powered earphones with built-in cameras. The project is known internally as “Camerabuds;” however, it’s uncertain if the final product will be in-ear earbuds or over-ear headphones. The cameras let the AI take in surrounding information visually, allowing it to translate foreign languages, identify objects, and more.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly seen several possible designs but has not been satisfied with them. Outside of design, the major hurdle is fitting a camera and batteries in a tiny device like an earbud.

Google announced a wide array of updates across its AI ecosystem

Major headlines were Project Astra, an AI agent that can see and hear users in real time, and AI teammates that can answer questions and organize data within Workspace.
Google also introduced Veo, a high-quality video generation model, and significant updates to Google Search, including expanded AI Overviews, advanced planning capabilities, and AI-organized search results.
The company launched Gemini 1.5 Pro, boasting a massive 2M context window extension, and Imagen 3, the next version of its text-to-image model. Other notable announcements included:

Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI's co-founder and chief scientist, has left the company

Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI's co-founder and longtime chief scientist, has left the company. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced the news on X, expressing his sadness and gratitude for Sutskever's contributions. Jakub Pachocki, OpenAI's research director, will step up as a chief scientist.
Sutskever's departure comes amidst reports of disagreements with Altman over OpenAI's direction, mainly concerns about rushing AI-powered product launches at the expense of safety. The situation escalated last November when Sutskever and OpenAI CTO Mira Murati approached the company's previous board to express their concerns, leading to a brief attempt to fire Altman. However, Altman was swiftly reinstated, and much of the old board resigned.

Apple unveils AI-enhanced eye tracking, music haptics, voice shortcuts

Apple recently unveiled new accessibility features that will launch later this year. One of these features is Eye Tracking, which enables users with physical disabilities to navigate their iPhones and iPads using only their eyes.

Stability AI seeks buyer amid financial woes

Stability AI has been in discussions with at least one potential buyer recently regarding a possible sale. The company is facing a cash crunch, having generated less than $5 million in revenue during the first quarter of 2024 while incurring losses exceeding $30 million. Stability AI also owes nearly $100 million in outstanding bills to cloud computing providers and other entities.
The reported sales talks came after the company laid off some staff as part of a restructuring process following the resignation of founder Emad Mostaque as CEO.

• OpenAI will access Reddit’s Data API, which provides real-time, structured, and unique content from Reddit. This will enable OpenAI’s AI tools to better understand and showcase Reddit content, especially on recent topics.
• The deal will also enable Reddit to bring new AI-powered features to redditors and mods. Reddit will be building on OpenAI’s platform of AI models to bring its powerful vision to life.
• Lastly, OpenAI will become a Reddit advertising partner.

OpenAI introduces improvements to data analysis in ChatGPT

OpenAI is rolling out enhancements to data analysis:

• Upload the latest file versions directly from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. This allows ChatGPT to understand your Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint files more quickly
• Interact with tables and charts in a new expandable view
• Customize and interact with bar, line, pie, and scatter plot charts in the conversation.

GenZ and millennials optimistic about GenAI use at work: Deloitte Survey

Deloitte’s 2024 Gen Z and Millennial Survey connected with more than 22,800 respondents in 44 countries to explore their attitudes about work and the world around them. One of the key findings was that Gen Zs and millennials are feeling uncertain about GenAI and its potential impact on their careers.
However, respondents who frequently use GenAI at work are more likely to say they feel excitement about, and trust in the technology. Frequent users of GenAI are also more likely to believe it will free up their time, improve the way they work, and improve their work/life balance.
But, conversely, the more a respondent uses GenAI the more likely they are to have some concerns as well.

I’m not close at all to going into big law (about to graduate high school) but I was curious:
If an associate say an eighth year doesn’t make partner are they forced out of the firm or are they allowed to stay? Like are there people who are senior associates in there 15th year or something? Was just curious and couldn’t find an answer to this specific question on any other Reddit post.

To preface this is a narrative of the fallout lore both established in all the fallout games and many of the popular mods created for both new Vegas, fallout 3 and fallout 4 and a subsequent idea for a fallout 5 title that I wrote and wanted to get opinions on.
If you think this is cool lmk, if you think this sucks lmk. I’m just interested in sharing my own ideas with the wider fallout community.

 From Lone-wanderer to the courier (TTW tie in) 

After the events of Fallout 3, the Lone Wanderer, having no family and no place left to truly call home, gathered up his companions and headed west to start a new life. Over the next 4 years, the Lone Wanderer lived in the west with many of his former companions going their separate ways. The Lone Wanderer began working as a courier, known as Courier 6. There, he had a particularly bad run-in with a man named Benny, who introduced him to a bullet. The damage done to the Lone Wanderer caused him to lose his memories of his past. Thus, he became the courier.
After the events of Fallout: New Vegas, and the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the NCR's military and infrastructure were severely weakened after destroying the Legion. Sensing an opportunity for mutual benefit the West Coast Brotherhood of Steel reached out to the Mojave chapter, where, under the leadership of Elder McNamera, the NCR and Brotherhood reached an agreement and official peace pact between the two groups, which culminated in the brotherhood becoming an official autonomous part of the NCR.
The West Coast Airship docks within the Strip, which was under the control of the Courier and member of the Mojave chapter. The West Coast reintegrated the Mojave chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel and uses the Strip as a base of operations. Leveraging their advanced technology and military prowess, they quickly gain the upper hand in engagements against the remaining enemies of the NCR.

 The Coming Storm (Dust tie in) 

Some time after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam and the BOS occupation of the strip joint expedition teams of the BOS AND NCR discovered the Sierra Madre Casino, as well as the mysterious and deadly cloud. The NCR and BOS scientists conducted experiments with the Cloud, bringing both massive samples of Cloud Residue and corpses of Ghost People back to the Mojave. Many of these experiments were conducted in a makeshift laboratory set up in the lobby of the Lucky 38 casino. Though the full nature of the experiments are unknown, it is implied that the participants involved were considered criminals to the NCR and the nature of the experiments were brutal, sadistic, and inhumane.
Around the same time, the BOS received reports that a massive sandstorm was approaching New Vegas. They did not share this information with the public, and instead began to outline evacuation procedures.
Five years after the expedition and experiments something went terribly wrong. It is implied that a disgruntled Vault 21 custodian may have intentionally sabotaged the Lucky 38 laboratory, causing a new Cloud to form over the Strip. This cloud was far more lethal and corrosive than the Cloud of the Sierra Madre. The corrosive capabilities even hindered the BOS power armor as the metal would be gradually eaten away by the cloud.
As the Cloud descended upon New Vegas, panic engulfed the Strip and Freeside. Riots and violence broke out. Miss communications between the directives of the BOS and NCR resulted in troopers executing innocent civilians in the streets. In response, the Kings rebelled against the NCR, while also aiding in an evacuation of Freeside, saving countless lives. The Followers of the Apocalypse were forced to abandon the Old Mormon Fort. The Airship of the Western Brotherhood attempted to evacuate all BOS personnel and any relevant technology from the strip before returning to Lost Hills. This resulted in some squads of the BOS being forced to take up residency within the casinos of the strip and vault 21. The NCR locked the gates to the Strip, with all civilians inside. The rebels led by the kings were forced out of and under the city, to the Sewers below. The BOS left in Vault 21 have been desperately trying to chisel away at the concrete within the vault in the hopes of tunneling back to Hidden valley.
NCR troops then dumped radioactive waste into the Sewers to kill any survivors, before fleeing the city themselves. Eventually, the situation became so bad that NCR General Lee Oliver ordered an evacuation of all NCR personnel from New Vegas via the Strip Monorail.
These events nullified the BOS and NCR treaty resulting in BOS forces seizing locations across the Mojave that had the capability to keep them safe from the cloud while also engaging in Guerilla warfare tactics against the NCR.
The city would ultimately fall to the Cloud and to the dust storms that blew in from the West. While some survivors attempted to take shelter in the Strip's casinos they were met with the business ends of BOS laser rifles. Those who did not head for the casinos were not so lucky, as anyone who wasn’t immediately killed by the Cloud became Ghosts and cloud victims, while others died slowly of radiation poisoning and exposure.
While New Vegas fell to the Cloud, a massive radioactive dust storm engulfed the rest of the Mojave Wasteland, causing widespread devastation. Whole settlements and towns were evacuated or otherwise destroyed. One settlement in particular, Goodsprings, was struck by an unknown form of plague, killing most of its residents and turning the once-prosperous community into a Ghost Towns.
Other areas, such as Boulder City, attempted to protect themselves with the same suits worn by Ghost people in Vegas and the Sierra Madre, ultimately becoming trapped themselves. To make matters worse, the Tunnelers from the Divide eventually burrowed through to the Mojave Wasteland, As predicted by Ulysses. causing even more death and destruction. The dust storms blotted out the Sun, allowing the Tunnelers to hunt by day, killing off most of the native animal population in the Mojave.
The effects of the Fall would spread as far out as Zion Valley, where spore carriers from Vault 22 ran wild, alongside another strange, terrible creature, dubbed the Wendigo by the tribals within the valley.
After the fall, little remained of the old Mojave Wasteland. Once-powerful factions such as, The Great Khans, and Powder Gangers were either wiped out or dissolved into roaming gangs of Tribals and Survivors. The Western Brotherhood which had resided in the strips cohesion collapsed as its members lost contact with the surrounding Casinos and vault 21.
Cannibalism became rampant, as people did whatever they could to survive. The NCR remained in control of various locations such as Camp Golf, Hoover Dam, Camp McCarran and Nellis AFB. Those fortunate enough to evacuate the Mojave mostly wound up at Camp Adytum, an NCFollowers refugee center in the Boneyard, however they were quickly drafted and sent to the now ongoing BOS and NCR conflict.
The NCR would eventually launch expeditions into the ruins of New Vegas, presumably to acquire materials left over from the Lucky 38 laboratories. However, none of these expeditions were successful, and the NCR soon abandoned all attempts to return to New Vegas, with only the Royst-Bernard Expedition consisting of rogue NCR scientific and military personnel returning in an attempt to succeed, where regular NCR failed.

 The Patriot at Heart (America Rising 2 tie-in) 

In the aftermath of the events of Fallout 3, the remnants of the Enclave fled north into the Commonwealth where they waited in hiding for 10 years. After the events of Fallout 4, the Lone Survivor helped revive the Enclave and ultimately forced the Institute into being folded into the Enclave, bringing their advanced technology and expertise in synth creation under one banner.
The Enclave embarked on a bold experiment, merging their iconic power armor technology with the synthetic advancements of the Institute. The result was the creation of a new breed of soldiers: Power Armored Synths or PAS.
These hybrid warriors combined the resilience and strength of power armor with the versatility and adaptability of synthetic intelligence. Clad in imposing power armor suits, these Synths were capable of executing complex military maneuvers, engaging enemies with precision and force.
Under the banner of the Enclave, this new army of PAS’s became the vanguard of their expansionist ambitions, striking fear into the hearts of any who knew of their existence. The Enclave took a page from the Institute by beginning to kidnap high-ranking members of the Railroad, Brotherhood of Steel, and Minutemen, replacing them with Synth sleeper agents who would corrupt the organization of the Commonwealth and East Coast Brotherhood to weaken them for an Enclave assault. This culminated in the Enclave assault on the Prydwen, forcing Elder Maxson to retreat back to the Capital Wasteland.

 Fallout 5: Tactics 

The year is 2300, 13 years after the events of Fallout 4.
A squad of the Chicago-based Midwest Brotherhood intercepts a transmission from the East Coast Brotherhood, calling for aid from the West Coast Brotherhood in a last-ditch effort to defend the Capital Wasteland from the Commonwealth-based Enclave assault.
Our character, a Midwest Brotherhood Paladin dubbed the Major, must traverse the Midwest, gaining new allies and attempting to mend the fractured Midwest Brotherhood to aid in the coming conflict. Our character must also fix up a convoy to traverse the wasteland of the Midwest in order to make it to the East Coast. Various quests and side quests will provide the character with allies and further supplies for the coming conflict and further cement the Midwest Brotherhood's position within the region.
Once the player believes they have gathered their small army sufficiently and created their convoy, they embark on a journey towards the East. Along the way, they are intercepted by Enclave and Super Mutant forces. Upon entering into the Capital Wasteland, the general's forces link up with what’s left of the East Coast Brotherhood who have been hiding out in Rockopolis after the Citadel was infiltrated and taken over by the Enclave. DC now acts as the front lines of a war yet again between the Enclave, Brotherhood, and a new faction in the wasteland called the Behemoths, an organized and somewhat intelligent super mutant group led by an intelligent mutant named Osiris, who was once a member of the Master's army. Osiris united the D.C. Mutants and launched his own series of attacks on the Brotherhood when the Enclave took hold of the Citadel.
Along the way, we meet a one-armed Three Dog who barely survived the Enclave bombing of the GNR building but has since set up shop in Broadcast Tower KTB with a small contingent of Brotherhood Paladins who aided against the Enclave, rescuing Three Dog.
As the Major and the elders plot out a plan to assault the Enclave at the Citadel.
Mid west Factions: 1. Brotherhood of Steel (Midwest Chapter): - The player's faction, focused on preserving pre-war technology and knowledge. - Known for their advanced technology and power armor. - Initially, they prioritize their interests but may assist others if it aligns with their goals.

1. Midwest Brotherhood Outcasts:
   
   • A splinter faction of the Brotherhood of Steel, formed due to disagreements over the main Brotherhood's leadership or ideologies.
   • They may possess similar technology and resources as the main Brotherhood but operate independently, sometimes in opposition to their parent faction.
2. Reavers:
   
   • A ruthless raider group terrorizing the Midwest wasteland.
   • Known for their brutality and willingness to pillage and plunder.
   • Considered a major threat to the stability of the region, often in conflict with other factions.
3. The Vikings:
   
   • A raider group modeled after the historical Vikings (with a mixture of the football Minnesota Vikings.)
4. Gammorin's Army Remnants:
   
   • A militant faction once led by the super mutant Gammorin.
   • Composed primarily of super mutants, they seek to establish dominance over the wasteland through force.
   • Viewed as a formidable enemy by other factions due to their strength and aggression.
5. Vault 0:
   
   • A vault inhabited by a powerful supercomputer known as the Calculator.
   • The Calculator once sought to expand its influence and control over the wasteland, posing a significant threat to other factions; however, it was reprogrammed by someone named the Warrior in the year 2197. This effectively deactivated and left the army of robots dormant and sealed away within Vault 0. Their advanced technology and military capabilities make them a formidable adversary and an equally valuable ally if they can only be reactivated and reprogrammed.
6. Tribal Communities:

As the player ventures further into the capital wasteland they find that it is now far greener than in the past and wild punga fruit now can be found around the wastes, if the player makes a detour to oasis they will find that Harold has rapidly grown and from the Potomac River (death law sanctuary) in the west to temple of the union in the east is now a lush paradise (that is if it weren’t for all the deathclaws and raiders who stalk the forest.) As Harold/Bob spread, the brotherhood eventually sent out missions to learn more about it, after encountering Linden, they made a formal treaty with the poplars, in which the poplars were given water in exchange for the fresh fruit from the oasis. The brotherhood also helped encourage the trade of Punga with the Poplars to be grown within the oasis to help aid soil development and remove radiation. The poplars now tend the forest and have become somewhat of a nature inspired farming/fire fighting force, having a couple of villages throughout the forest network. However raider gangs also set fire to the trees, (if the player investigates they’ll find out that the enclave is paying the raiders to burn the trees and fight their way in to help destabilize the brotherhoods food supply and trade routes)
If the player chooses to side with the poplars/ Brotherhood the trees will continue to spread at a rate of 1 mile for every 24 real world hours that pass in game.
If the player helps the enclave they will be tasked with infiltrating the original Oasis and burning Harold alive, and the trees will dwindle at the same rate until the oasis is fully gone.

To those who look really young for their age, does it get better?
I'm 29M but I could easily pass for high school or a college kid. No one thinks I'm over 21. People are always SHOCKED when they learn I'm 29.
I've been told to embrace it and that it's a good thing that I look young. I've always looked much younger than my actual age. When I was entering college at 18, people regularly thought I was 14 or younger. In law school, most people thought I was a high school kid around 15 or 16. These days, people think I'm either a high school kid or a college undergrad.
I'm a corporate lawyer, but at work I find that I'm sometimes mistaken for an undergrad intern a lot. Other times, people think I'm some entry level. I find that I'm not taken seriously and people talk down to me all the time. I'm not sure what it is, but I sometimes feel like people treat me as if I'm a child and not a peer.
When I'm out and about doing things from grocery shopping to buying furniture or even signing documents, people ask me where my parents are. I've had to carry a secondary form of ID with me at all times because people usually think my Driver's License is a convincing fake.
Dating is a bit harder. I prefer women who are around my age but most women my age seem uncomfortable being with someone who looks so much younger than them. The women who are interested are usually way too young for me and don't realize that I'm 29.
In job interviews, I have to dress older and try to work my age in the conversation. Otherwise, people think I'm some inexperienced entry level person.
Whenever I'm at other places and meet people who are around my age, they seem shocked and bit weirded out at first when they learn that I'm 29. I've had some folks joke that I must be immortal or a vampire since there's no way that I'm 29.
Does it get better? I don't mind looking young, but I don't like being treated like a child or talked down to or not taken seriously all the time.

I have a 6th grader who had a pretty disastrous transition to middle school. He has an IEP and it was very difficult getting it followed, and I have my doubts he'd be learning successfully if it was followed anyway. He's been doing an online K-12 school after school and on weekends and he is getting As in the same subjects he got Ds in for in-person school.
I've come around to the idea of pulling him out of our local middle school and registering him for the district's virtual school. My husband isn't worried about the lack of socialization because our son hasn't formed any friendships as it is. He thinks there's value in him having crappy teachers where he won't learn unless he self-advocates. I don't know how to address such an argument.
My son had a teacher who had several breakdowns and told the kids she didn't care whether they did their work or what they did, which resulted in some kids leaving the class to wander the halls and utter chaos in the classroom for the kids who stayed behind. Each time she took a personal day after to regroup, but ultimately announced to the class that she wouldn't be returning to the school next year and she kind of checked out at that point.
I don't see how our son was supposed to self-advocate to make the best of that situation. We have other kids and I'm not saying they all need an alternative educational approach. Just this one. I think that should mean something.

Hi, I am looking for advice on things we should be considering.
My husband and I have been married for ten+ years. We have two kids, six and eight, and we live in my (tiny) hometown in a house I love, with a menagerie of pets. He also has a child from his first marriage that lives a few hours from us but that we talk to every day and see regularly. They’re a rising senior in high school and have a very booked summer and presumably busy senior year as well.
My husband is an attorney at a firm that's winding up a practice area after losing one of their equity partners. They offered him the option to move into a different practice area but weren't sure if they would have the long-term hours, pay his salary for six weeks, and let him find something else. For various reasons, we chose door number 2 (I supported this, as the partner leaving has made work extremely stressful, and I thought a fresh start would help). He spent the first two weeks applying for jobs and the last two weeks interviewing.
On Friday, he got two offers. One would be hybrid and be a slight raise, but it would be in the city he went to law school in, seven hours away, near his hometown. The firm has agreed to let him structure his time in the office so he could be there Monday and Tuesday, be back with us Wednesday to Wednesday, and then there for Thursday, Friday, or however we work it out. He needs to be in the office two days a week, but it can be remote three, and we can structure that flexibly to get him home for longer stretches. At least in the short term, he has many friends in the area he can stay with.
The other offer is more local, but is a huge pay cut, and he would only be making about 2/3 of what he makes now (it’s a more regional law firm). We have friends at the firm, and they have great work life balance, and fewer billable hours than his current job or the first offer. Some flexibility but not a lot of wfh options.
I work in a field where I could reliably find work if we moved, with a salary similar to his offer at a local firm. But I don’t want to move. I also don’t want to live apart from my husband.
Some other factors: I have a busy job and struggle with adhd and depression. I’ve had an exceptionally tough year mental health wise. We live close to my family and we have a lot of friends and family in the area (both of us! He went to college here and has lived here a long time at this point). We are very happily married.
Am I being selfish wanting to stay here? I really think there will be other opportunities and the pay cut sucks but we can work it out.

My husband, my teenage son and I moved to my husband‘s hometown fairly recently. Prior to this we would visit once a year for 10 days by the end of our trip I was exhausted from the dynamic in my in-laws household. Now that we live here and has gotten even worse. Our electricity went out for an entire week during the spring, and my husband was off on a trip. My teenage son and I had to stay at my in law house. She treated me like I was five years old, telling me what I needed to do, exactly how I needed to go about doing it, and what I wasn’t doing right. she is a clean freak and everything has to be done just right. every dish put away on the spot, every towel folded just right ect… you get the picture. she even told me that if I lost weight, I would get rid of most of my health problems. I had just had back surgery and I total knee replacement six months prior and waiting on another new replacement. I may have been 30 to 40 pounds overweight at the time. It’s hard to lose weight when you’re in so much pain! I also was diagnosed with an immune disorder about three years ago . When we first moved, they wanted us to meet them out for dinner 3 to 4 times a week at eighty to $100 each time. I told my husband that we had to put the brakes on going out to dinner so much unfortunately that was the only thing that brought us together. They hardly ever come over to our place and when they do they want to leave within half an hour unless it’s for a holiday dinner. They don’t have us to their house very much unless it’s to watch hockey, which I don’t like. My husband and son usually go. She waited till we were alone in the kitchen a few months ago and scolded me for not working full-time while I was raising my son. I couldn’t take it any longer, and I firmly told her that I wanted to be there for my son when he was growing up. He wouldn’t be the kid he is if I wasn’t there for him. I got married late in life and have my son when I was 40. after college I worked a corporate career all the way up until I had my son. Almost 2O years! I Had a 401(k) saved up. 2008 my husband poorly managed our finances and we lost our house and our cars and our credit and all of MY money and then had his parents help us out. It was a horrible time. My husband became very verbally abusive with me and started acting and treating me just like his mom. When his mom started in on me, I realized that my husband learned all of his mean tactics from her!!!!! the lightbulb went off, the mean and cruel and constant judging I endured from my husband throughout our marriage, was exactly how his mother was to him. This made me resent her that much more. She told me that SHE herself worked, why couldn’t I? she didn’t go to college, she didn’t work while the kids were small. after the kids were grown she worked as a receptionist at an old folks home for a couple of years. she’s never had to earn her own money and they live in a beautiful home because of my father-in-law and she spends money like it’s going out of style. when I’m around her, I feel like I’m being judged sometime. She’ll even look me up and down, and I can feel her judging eyes thinking I look fat or my outfit is not what she would wear. She’s very quick to tell me what I need to do. I’ve lost a lot of weight since my surgeries and got a real estate license. We are selling our home and I am doing the majority of the work. She told me a couple of days ago that it’s very important that the house is spotless, clean and that make sure the beds are made and the dishes and the sink are put away. Really really!!!

I recently totaled my car and have been looking for my dream vehicle. I want a Denim Blue Volkswagen Beetle, preferably 2012 and up. This car has been difficult to locate and when I do, it often gets sold that day or the next. I found one that is the closest too me, about an hour away. I'm going to look at it on Monday and i want to know if I'm prepared or not. Being a woman who looks very feminine I know ill be subject to upsells and false information by any dealership, and I don't know cars like at all, so I've been reading up about the specific car I'm going to see. I already scheduled check up at a local mechanic in town so they can do the full run down while i have it for my test drive, and since it has been in 2 accidents, one of them listed as 'unknown', to ensure everything checks out. I have notified the dealership that i will be taking it to a mechanic and they seemed to have no problem with that (I'm more so nervous about engine troubles, as some reviews from this dealership state that they bought the vehicle and when they brought it home the engine went out)
Anyway, I was able to talk them down a couple grand in price already, although it still is priced a little above market value (I will be bringing a copy of my Kelley Blue Book market price of the exact vehicle) I have a whole document of questions printed out, as well as the car report they provided me. In my document, I ask for a service history, what they paid for it, what would be my OTD price, if they've done a pre inspection and if so what they found, when was the oil last changed, when were the tires last changed, etc. I am already pre approved for my loan so I would not be financing though the dealership, and my insurance is already figured out. I'm not letting them run my credit since I've been pre approved. I know to not leave my keys or license with them when test driving the vehicle, I plan on bringing my spare keys and I have a printed copy of my drivers license if they want that.
I will only be going with this vehicle if the mechanic gives me a clean bill of health. No one has jumped on this car in 2 months and it may be bc of their bad reviews or that it was priced 5k above market value, which makes me a little nervous as these types of cars go quick. I have been reading up about lemon laws as well, just in case. Now, my current car is being totaled out by insurance, so if i decide to go with this car, I will have to drive my car back home, sign my power of attorney forms and tow the car, then i will get my check from my insurance. I will be asking them if they do holds on vehicles, for how long and what price. I've been reading up online how not to get taken advantage of for the past couple days so I'm hoping i have all the info I need. 1. OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT ISSUES

EQ's IP has changed hands numerous times, often landing in the portfolios of venture capitalist firms more interested in short-term profits than in the game's long-term health. Notable examples include:
• Verant Interactive: Originally developed EQ and was acquired by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) in 2000.

Don't get it twisted; I abhor Blizzard and WoW. But I truly can't stand what has been done to my beloved EQ over the years. It pains me to watch as the cycle continues.

I going to make this as brief and to the point as I can. I paid for a Nexus letter and DBQ linking my Migraines as secondary to PTSD. My PTSD got in the way. I could not deal with the application and contracted with a Law firm and sent the letter and DBQ to the Law firm with all the usual information. The law firm has not been transparent so other than that they filed an HLR I do not know what is going on. I have requested my full case file. I received a letter from the VA stating that there was disagreement about Migraine as secondary to PTSD and I had a C&P review. VES Dr called, and the total call length was 7 minutes and 26 seconds. During which time she asked a few questions and cut me off If I tried to explain. Didn't ask for and did not check all of the symptoms. Her report denied a connection and cited “researches”, no specifics, in support of her decision. The nexus letter and DBQ I supplied cites facts and symptoms from my records, treatments received, time frames for migraines, and specific studies are named and referenced to support the link between migraines and PTSD in my case. Since the law firm is involved can I upload the positive information to ensure it is in my records? If so, how can I do it?

Therefore, if I ever decided to suddenly risk prison time, risk my reputation, and risk enduring the wrath of modern-day “cancel culture” by scamming people out of their money:

• I certainly wouldn’t do it for such paltry amounts of money. (i.e., anything less than $1,000 per victim.)
• I certainly wouldn’t choose high school & college students as my “target audience” to scam, considering that most people without college degrees have abysmally low annual incomes. Why choose low-income victims when it would be much more profitable to target high-income, high-net-worth individuals earning at least six figures a year? I have knowledge in business consulting, and I promise you that a business owner would be a MUCH more lucrative mark than a low-income college student.
• I wouldn’t choose such a time & energy-draining method of scamming people. Also, communicating back and forth with potential clients is an absurdly long time sink since only less than 10% of all potential clients who reach out to me actually become paying clients of mine. This means that 90% of my time communicating with potential clients ultimately proves to be a colossal waste of my irretrievable time & energy.
• If you pay me to provide academic services and I don’t deliver, you can always dispute the payment with the payment app and easily get your money refunded. If I were in the habit of swindling money from people, then all of my payment accounts would have been investigated and be completely shut down by now. And I would have been permanently banned from opening new accounts. I wanted to put if out there to get some feedback.
A few years ago my parent formed a friendship with a couple. Let's call them Coby and Carl. Eventually this couple asked if they could work on their own projects on the family farm, including keeping animals here. What resulted from the situation was their neglect of the animals (on their part, I was stuck feeding and cleaning them), leaving their projects unfinished, & borrowing tools and other equipment and damaging them. They were asked multiple times to correct their errors but refused. The situation ended chaotically.
A little backstory: At the time I was single and living at home with my parent. My parent was unable live independently due to chonic pain, and before back to back surgeries for multiple reasons i was doing the housework/cooking, working as a nurse, and in school. My parent was in and out of the hospital between these surgeries for heart problems. My parent has always been very independent and was often resentful they could not do as they wanted due to chronic pain. During this time my brother passed of cancer, and that loss significantly impacted my parent, as they ended up with a charge for a DUI that costed them their drivers license for 18 months. During this time i was also responsible for driving my parent to appointments or any outings. Work for the outside on our property was hired through another family friend.
Coby and Carl were nice at first, but eventually it became clear that they had no respect for anything. They would abandon their own projects, left our yard a mess (neighbors complained), and refused to acknowledge what was going on. This led to a disagreement, and I told them to get their stuff together and to stop coming here, as they were no longer welcome due to their behavior.
This led to chaos. To summarize shortly after i told them thay they needed to vacate our property, Coby used his partners truck to force me off the road near a bend where I almost lost control of my vehicle. I did not have a dash camera and i had 0 witnesses (I was driving alone). I was clear to both Coby and Carl afterwards that i would contact law enforcement if something else reckless and stupid was attempted like this, ever. This did deter Coby and Carl for a while.
After, Carl would blast anyone ( including my own family) who would listen that I was crazy and unstable and making up what happened. The entire situation was painful. Basically, Carl was able to cause a lack of faith from some of my own family members, and even disrupted a few of my friendships. Carl was likely on the defense for his partner, but his own lack of accountability for his actions of breaking things, telling me that I should "lighten up", and keep my nose out of his doings on my families property, and acting like his actions didn't have any consequences was too much. I'm not sure what gave him the idea that he could continue his behavior, and the entitlement was unbelievable. Eventually, Carl realized he didn't have the same grip he did before, and likely out of boredom (we stopped talking and I cut out all contact) he stopped coming around.
This entire situation exhausted me, I needed time to heal, so I made plans. My parent had recovered from their final surgery and was able to walk, and pain management was improved. I secured a better job and moved in with friends for a year.
(When I was not living with my parent, I arranged for them to have help at home, I called my parent weekly, saw them for Sunday dinners at my cousins house, and maintained a decent but removed relationship from them. This helped us to repair a lot of the things between us.)
This went on for a year until I relocated to another province for work, but due to financial reasons I have moved back home with my parent. This economy is absolutely brutal. My parent and I are on better terms, and we have reconciled. I have been and always will be very grateful for everything they have done for me despite anything that has happend, we are family.
What i want feedbacm on is what happens when Coby and Carl learn that I'm back in the area? Will there be an attempt to do something to hurt any progress I have made in my life? Specifically, I am concerned about another attempt to force me into a ditch, as well as any attacks on my credibility. I don't want to lose anymore friends or have anymore painful remarks from people I care about (who eventually came around to my side of things.)
Before the incident with Coby, he had followed my vehicle too closely in the past on a common stretch of road our driveway ajoins to, and had a terrible attitude when I asked him to stop doing this. If I spoke up about it sooner I could have prevented him from attempting what he did. I can be a bit of a doormatt and it takes me time to stand up for myself.
As a result of the experience, I have some unresolved trauma. There are cameras on our property, and I have a dash cam. I'm careful, I don't go out after dark, and I call friends and tell them where I am. Yes, my parent is aware of what happend. I don't know what else I can do to protect myself.
I currently reside in the province of Ontario, and from what I am aware of Coby and Carl still reside in a small community not far from my home. Once they learn I'm back in the area, I am convinced something may come of it. What do you advise I do in the meantime, to provide myself with a sense of security?
