2024.05.20 03:00 BillDoughTreeV How do I get a signal from an oscilloscope to test distortion on factory head unit and amp?

I’ve installed a sub in a Mazda cx50 (jbl BassPro hub) and I have no idea where to hook up the alligator clips on the oscilloscope to test the factory head unit, amp, and new sub to test for distortion. There are a ton of YouTube videos using the exact oscilloscope I bought and it just works for them and shows the sine wave perfectly. I have mine set to ac and have tried every other setting in volts and time and still see nothing. My speakers are all working and getting signal but I can’t get anything to show up on the oscilloscope. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated!

Looking for recommendations for Corvette C3 setup
Hi folks
It appears that one of my JBL CLUB6500C decided to give up on me so I'm on the market for new components. To be honest I wasn't super impressed with them to begin with so all suggestions are welcome. I've hears conflicting opinions about having 2 6x9s on the dash and 2 6.5"s on the kick panel and I decided to go with the latter but to say I was disappointed is a bit of an understatement.
Current Setup:
Head Unit. Atoto F7 We
Amp: Planet Audio AC1500.1M
Subs: 2x Planet Audio AC8D Anarchy Series 8 Inch Car Audio Subwoofer - 1200 Watts Max
I have the tweeters under the dash and the speakers in the kickpanels and basically the sound feels like it has no presence and it's too focused around the foot area if that makes sense...
I'm willing to replace the AMP and speakers, otherwise looking to keep what I have as not to have to make a new box. Thanks in advance!

Speaker upgrade on 2019 LE
Just upgraded my stock dash and front door speakers with Kicker KSC350’s and 46CSC654’s. Easy diy project using stock harness and radio, no splicing required . Sound is great, especially for those without the jbl package! Much cleaner sound but if you like bass you’ll definitely want a dedicated amp and sub.

I switched from tubes to solid state… updated setup picture!
After a little revamp here is the stage of my budget hifi setup. I was using the Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum for several years and thought it would be the last amp I ever owned, but once I bought these JBL’s I couldn’t stop wondering how they’d sound with big solid state power. So I made a few changes… My media of choice is vinyl so analog 2 channel has remained my focus.
Turntable is a Technics 1210GR with an Audio Technica AT33/PTGii which runs into a Ned Clayton Cinemag 1254 SUT, then into a tube preamp based on the EAR834P running three matched E83CC frame grid tubes. The 834 “clone” is one of the best pieces of gear I’ve ever owned. It’s filled with high quality parts and it absolutely dead silent even at max gain. And the best part is that is cost about $300.
For digital sources I’ve got a Yamaha S303 CD player working as a transport that’s connected via coax to a Topping D70s. The speakers are JBL Studio 590’s.
The preamp is Schiit Freya S, and the amps are Outlaw 2220’s (one per speaker, bi-wired) the Topping is balanced, and so are the Freya and Outlaw’s so the only single ended connection here is the turntable.
With the exception of the turntable and the phono stage, everything was purchased used at huge discounts over new, so it’s definitely a budget-minded setup at its core. Most importantly it sounds really really good!

2024.05.19 23:23 bkbrick JBL E120 cleaning and testing

I've sourced 2 JBL E120 12" speakers for my guitar cab. Both had some voice coil rub in one state or another. There's a foam grill inside that had deteriorated on both which seemed to be the issue, and I'm really sticking to my guns about not reconing them. I've taken the dust caps off, cleaned they up, massaged one voice coil back into more of a circle, and I've tested them with a 20hz frequency generator and they're dead silent. My concern is 1 still feels kinda crusty when moving the voice coil by hand but not when amplified. How else can I test them so I know they'll work right.

2024.05.19 23:22 UDVertigo DIY Installation help!

I finished installing the aftermarket head unit for my Subaru Impreza (first time I've done, and it works pretty good!)
Next up I purchased a set of component speakers (JBL 609C), and a 10" Subwoofer that I also wish to install DIY style.
I have an old amplifier that I had from a previous car I owned, it might not be the best out there but I wanted to start something going with it, it is a 1500W 4-channel amplifier, probably Chinese made. It was hard to find specifications about it but somewhere I've found: - Maximum power at 4 ohm (W): 500 - Maximum Power 2 Channel at 4 ohm (W): 2x250 - Maximum Power 2 Channel @ 2 Ohm (Watt): 2x500 - RMS-power, 4 channels at 4 ohm (W): 4x80 - RMS-power, 2 channel at 4 ohm (W): 2x170 - RMS-Power 2 Channel @ 2 Ohm (Watt): 2x250
  1. Regarding the component speakers, where should I put the crossovers and tweeters after installing the front row speakers
  2. What's a quick test in the most safe way that I can do to check that the amplifier works well with the speakers prior to installing everything in the car? I'm afraid impedance rating won't be correct and I want to avoid causing any damage to the new speakers..
  3. Should I bridge two channels of the amplifier to power the subwoofer?
  4. I also got two wooden frames for the front speakers because the seller told me I'll need them when installing.. what do I do with them..
Thanks!

2024.05.19 20:19 Spiritual-Worry-9698 JBL Charge 5 Service Mode for PC Audio – Safe for Speaker and Battery?

So I've figured out a way to use my Charge 5 as a PC speaker by putting it into service mode. I hold the Bluetooth and Play buttons until it powers off, then plug it into my PC via USB-C. It works surprisingly well, but I have a couple of questions:
  1. Is this safe for the speaker in the long run? I know it's not the intended use, so I'm worried about potential damage.
  2. Will constantly charging the speaker while using it this way harm the battery? I've heard conflicting info about charging while playing music.

2024.05.19 19:24 cheekyritz JBL go 4 vs tribit stormbox micro 2

Is the micro two really that much better than the go 4 in every aspect? Is the sound quality at least better even though it doesn't have the bass? I'm looking for something that's JBL go for size and I want the storm box but I'm just a bit hesitant on it as it's a 2-year-old speaker. I was also wanting to know how the microphone performance on it. If you have any other recommendations please let me know thank you!

2024.05.19 18:34 Still-Major-5598 Help me compare the loudness of two speakers

Hey I'm trying to come up with a solid DJ setup for a birthday party in a park - nothing super professional, but loud enough to make people dance.
In the past I used a Roland Cube 80x 80-watt guitar amp, which isn't made for the job but gets loud and has an aux input. But now I'm thinking of replacing it with a JBL Partybox 110 160-watt speaker.
The thing is, without hearing the speaker, it's hard for me to know if the 110 is actually louder than my guitar amp. To my ears, the Roland Cube 80x is plenty loud for an outdoor gathering with 20-40 people, but I've only seen the JBL 110 recommended for indoor use or small outdoor gatherings. And the 80x has a 12-inch speaker cone, whereas the JBL just has two 5.5-inch cones for the woofers.
But a 160-watt amp has to be louder than 80 watts... Right?
I really don't know how I could go about answering this question. Anyone have a clue?

2024.05.19 14:54 thelastdon430 JBL sound system

I have a 2015 Avalon with the JBL sound system. I’ve noticed that one of my subwoofers in the rear stopped working. My question is, before I get the dealer to replace it, can I just get aftermarket speakers installed to replace them? I’ve read in some groups that with the jbl system in order to install aftermarket speakers you have to change out the whole sound system. Not sure if that’s true, that’s why I’m posting this. Thanks in advance for any help.

2024.05.19 13:05 Athapapoutsiakis They are the exact same, 1/1

Ok, so, some years ago I had gotten the jbl go 2 and it has been fine. The battery has been decreasing lately and I have been thinking of replacing it. I go and search for speakers and I see 3. Jbl go 3 which has some.... Questionable design choices, I'll put it that way. The jbl go 4 which I love but isn't available where I live yet and the jbl go essential...
The jbl go 2 and jbl go essential are the exact same thing, with the exact same stats
What, did it not sell enough and they just repackaged it?

2024.05.19 11:49 feral_day Sony F170 90s Amp

Clear, Strong and Open. That is how i describe the sound coming out of it trough my JBL Control One speaker set. I can not complain one bit. For a somwhat lower to midrange amp i am blown away.
What kind of music it does well with: Pretty much anything. Im not liying. Acoustic, Orchestra, Rock, etc it does make it feel alive and the louder you go the more it shines. Using the direct source mode it only amplifies and coming from my AE-9 without any EQ. Listening to Lofi Hip-Hop it goes surprisingly deep and without making it muddy. Mids and highs are clear but not sparkling making for an easy and comfortable listening experience (for me).
I have gone rather high up with the volume and i cannot notice any degredation or hear any distortion. Listening to my favourites i did sometimes think it was distorting but that was actually the music itself. Additionally i only hear a little white noise when nothing is playing which is nice. (at highest volume)
For around 100€ (similar in dollar) It is a perfect budget amp that can bring a lot of joy. it is rated 2x50 at 4ohm and 2x35 at 8ohm both dynamic Source: https://www.hifi-wiki.de 2 × 42 watts, channel 1 + 2 at 8 Ohm and 2 × 63 watts, channel 1 + 2 at 4 Ohm at up to 1% distortion. Source: https://amp-performance.de
Id like to hear your experience with it and the other amps from that series as there is relatively little to be found online.

2024.05.19 10:40 Snisc0 Advice for best $150-200 bluetooth speaker?

Hey everyone,
I'm looking to buy a new Bluetooth speaker and could use some advice from those in the know. I've had a JBL Flip 4 for about three years now. It was okay, but it's starting to crackle and the battery life is down to about 10 minutes. I need something reliable and long-lasting.
My budget is around $150-220. I don't care much about aesthetics, materials, or special features like LEDs or party modes. My primary concerns are:
  1. Sound Quality: I want the best possible sound quality within my budget.
  2. Lifespan: It should last a good amount of time before the battery degrades or any other issues arise.
  3. Battery Life: A decent battery life would be great.
I'll be using it mostly indoors and I don't need special lighting or extreme bass. A nice, classy look would be a plus, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for the priorities listed above.
Thanks in advance for your help and expertise!
