Good OS, stable, secure, fast, less memory than Windows, suspend works great, apps I need exist.

• Adobe acrobat, I need a PDF software that can fill XFA form for tax (I tried PDF Master, Foxit they didn't work).
• Play old non-steam games (Ragnarok Online, Point Blank, Pop cap / game house).
• In case I need to do certification that uses safe browser (ex. TOEFL, AWS, etc)

I tried them fully installed (not live CD) except Linux Mint, Pop OS, and MX Linux.

• If I need to change the mirror of DNF, I'll need to edit them through .conf file rather than GUI like in Ubuntu or Linux Mint
• It also had problem with playing AV1 video, I tried both native and flatpak version of VLC, it didn't fix it. Tried a lot of researching, installing RPM fusion multimedia packages, nothing worked.
• You need to add max_parallel_downloads or fastestmirror on dnf.conf just to makednf faster. Why didn't it come preconfigured that way?

• Distros that use kernel version 6 or above tends to not have problem with 3.5 mm combo jack, it just worked. Before it was only capable of detecting the speaker but not the microphone.
• KDE plasma 6 have the settings for the legacy X11 application so that it can also be scaled by KDE system scaling (blurry though).
• Playing AV1 video does not work on Fedora 40 despite a lot of things I've tried.
• NVIDIA driver on Fedora automatically install the nvidia-powerd service, unlike on Ubuntu 24.04 I need to copy .service and dbus .conf to their respective folder in order to make it work.
• Ubuntu (GNOME) does not support scaling for old X11 apps, so old apps tend to not follow the system scaling.
• Libreoffice on Fedora have issue with mendeley desktop 1.19.8 (might be mendeley issue though). Since whenever I tried to insert citation, it just hangs and quit, similar thing happened on Ubuntu. That's why I switched to Zotero.
• Suspend in Linux is a lot better than sleep in Windows, 1 hour of suspend consumes 1% of battery, and I can directly start working again without lag. Sleep on Windows is a nightmare, it consumes 24% in ~30 minutes, loud and fast spinning fans, black screen bug, etc.
• VSCode snap version crashed whenever I opened .py files (could be because of extension). So I installed .deb version and it's a smooth sailing from there.
• Steam snap version cannot be opened after I shut it down (I need to after enabling Proton). So, I switched to the .deb version.
• You can actually run X window with NVIDIA (performance PRIME mode) and having all your apps run by NVIDIA despite you're having optimus. Windows need advanced optimus to do this. If you use optimus, there is no way to change which GPU handle the X window (exception for external display that directly connected to NVIDIA GPU through HDMI / DP)
• .desktop file that I put on .local/share/applications do not work. It always says Exec field not specified, but it worked if I put the .desktop file on /usshare/applications might need additional testing on this.
• NVIDIA GPU power limit cannot be set manually using nvidia-smi -pl value for NVIDIA driver version above 525.
• Installing my react project's dependencies using yarn speed (cached) (speed also depend on legion power mode):
  • Windows native: ~15-18 seconds
  • WSL2: ~8-11 seconds
  • Ubuntu native: ~3-5 seconds
• You can install both GPT (UEFI) or MBR (BIOS) OS if you use MBR bootable. If you use GPT bootable, you can only install GPT (UEFI) OS. So MBR bootable is better for compatibility.
• Ventoy for multi bootable ISO, it's really good.
• noisetorch for noise supression on Linux, it's a must have software.
