A little bit about me; I started reading books when I was 14. I grew up poor and books were a free source of entertainment. Whenever someone asks me why I know so much about a subject or how I’ve become so good at my job, I always tell them that I just read everything.
Part of me still reads because of how far I’ve come in life. Although I do enjoy reading quite a lot.
I keep it going with variety: about half of what I read is professional or personal development; the other half is for pleasure, but covers everything from memoirs to high fantasy to historical fiction.
Why am I writing this:
Procrastination is literally ruining many lives. If you have exams coming up and are struggling to get organized, it's essential to take action and stop procrastinating as soon as possible.
You can start by implementing the tips I've gathered from three of the top books that help with procrastination.

1 The Now Habit, #2 Eat That Frog, #3 Willpower.

When choosing to follow advice, be it from a book or a reddit post, if you think it makes sense - be careful to REALLY, FULLY follow it.
- Don't follow only part of it
- Don't think "Yeah, good idea" and then don't do it
- DO make a point to go practice , step by step, many times until you can be sure you're actually doing it.
- DO realize that following a new idea needs PRACTICE. Many of these things are skills that you can't just do perfectly immediately even if they sound very easy.
- DO write it down.
- I highly recommend reading the books yourself, of course.
  - They go much deeper than my post.
  - I listened to some on audible, I think self help books are great for this.
Keep a folder (paper or digital) to organize your life. (Getting Things Done, Eat That Frog)
- Regardless of your technology (specifically fancy apps), making a plan is based on you sitting down and deciding what to do.
- Always think on paper. Write everything down.
- I can recommend Atoma or M by Staples (Notebooks with freely exchangeable pages). Anything else works, too.

Set GOALS (Eat that frog).
1. Goal-setting is a specific skill that you might think you know how to but actually don't. Setting goals right is simple, but not easy. There is a specific way to do it. I have the words memorized. EVERY SINGLE WORD IS IMPORTANT. I'm not kidding. (Example: If you "decide exactly what you should", it won't work!
  1. Decide exactly what you want.
  2. Set a deadline.
  3. List all steps.
  4. Make a plan.
  5. Do something on that plan immediately. ANYTHING.
2. I also have an "IN" List as the first list in the goals section. Whatever pops into my mind goes there. I can decide later if it's a goal, a task on a category list, a task for this week... (Getting Things Done).
Keep lists of tasks for the DAY, WEEK, MONTH (Eat that frog).
1. In the evening, plan the next day.
2. On sunday, plan the next week.
3. Keep a list for the next month that you constantly add tasks to.
Limit your work hours by keeping an UNSCHEDULE (The Now Habit).
1. Procrastination is your mind fearing that you won't get to do all the good things if you work too much. To combat this, keep an unschedule - the opposite of a schedule.
  1. Print a weekly schedule that shows all 24 hours.
  2. Block out all the time you're NOT working. Like time for eating, your routine, guilt-free playtime, sleep, appointments, commutes etc.
  3. At least one hour of guilt-free play is MANDATORY. Plan it in the unschedule. It's actually better to plan more free time because it makes it clear that work time is limited.
  4. DO NOT plan ANY work. After you've completed some work, highlight the time you've been working in the unschedule, but only if it was at least half an hour. Sum up the day's hours worked on your #1 project.
Keep LOGS (The Now Habit, Willpower).
1. Logs work, that's scientifically proven. I don't care why but they work.
2. If you want to get up earlier, keep a log of your getting up times. If you want to study more, keep a log of your actual time studied. If you waste too much time, keep a general activity log. If you eat too much, keep a food log. Even without anything else, logs have a powerful positive effect.
COMMITMENT STATEMENT (Me).
1. I have an extra section after the logs where I have written out my commitment to my most important project. Write this when you see things clearly, when you are motivated. Later, when you are tired and indecisive, it will help you remember your conviction.
Keep lists of TASKS by category (Getting Things Done).
1. Lists help you shelving stuff that you can't do right now. It's out of your mental loop, which frees up mental space/attention.
2. Some of my lists: Activities for guilt-less play, Chores, Routine (Daily, Weekly, Monthly), Waiting for [notes about delegated work or results outstanding].

Always do the most important thing first. (Eat That Frog).
- Only one thing can be the most important goal in your life. Resolve to work on it every day. Never do any less important work (work is not play!) before the most important task is done.
- It's usually the hardest and most complex task (!)
Keep your barrier to entry low. (The Now Habit)
- Aim for LITTLE. Half an hour per day is enough sometimes. Don't spend more that five hours a day on one project - HARD RULE!
- Keep this sentence as your mantra for work: I choose to start on one small step, knowing I have plenty of time for play.
Keep in mind that you are always free. (Eat That Frog)
- Procrastination is an unconscious fear for freedom that leads to avoidance. Your mind doesn't like to be forced to work because it fears for your freedom to do other things.
- That's why the unschedule works - you give yourself the assurance that you will be able to do all the other things, including plain fun things, too!
Procrastination is a little like fear, and you can fight it (Me) (KEY POINT).
- Procrastination keeps you from thinking "straight" (thinking in the manner that you would like to think in order to be productive). Before it appears, everything seems nice and logical and you know what you should do. When it appears and you procrastinate instead of doing what you deciced to do, you cannot rely ON YOUR OWN MIND to correct itself. Your thinking itself is corrupted! In this impaired thinking state you CANNOT do the correct thing by only using your mind BECAUSE IT IS IMPAIRED.
- You need to use a written commitment, read it over and over again and actually fight to start NOW. It is an actual fight that you can win. Objectively, starting on your work is completely harmless - you know that! It's just the habit of a certain unconscious fear that keeps you from doing it. You can break through and fight it. You only need to get to half an hour.
- I'm serious. When your goals are clear and your free time is secured, when everything that's left unplanned is the one, the most difficult, the most important task: FORCE starting. You will be surprised - The task isn't that bad! But you DO need to FORCE yourself to start.

Regular sleeping and eating patterns are important (12 Rules for Life)
- Many people don't fully realize this, but those have an enormous positive effect on your psyche (12 Rules for life).
- In order to get control over your patterns you need to get control over your sleep.

Addicted just means that you can't stop even if you want to. So test this by DECIDING, as a test, to not waste time on the internet for a week. If you can't do it, you're addicted. It's very easy to brush this off as ridiculous or unimportant, but it's not. The bad part isn't the internet, it's the addiction and the time. It's the things that you're missing like lots of bodily activity, more time with friends, more time outside. Life.

In the end, I was able to get back to my conversions, and right now, I'm converting one of my fave aberrations ever! This has been quite an undertaking, since it's my highest-CR creation yet (though of course, I plan on taking on much greater ones). I've tried to be consistent and balanced with the power level, but I'm still not sure if I managed it. It doesn't help that there aren't many CR 17 Aberrations around - and I must thank the Creature Codex for their hard work and for providing me some examples to confront my own work with. Of course, suggestions and constructive criticism are always welcome.

Command Beholder (Su): An overseer can use dominate monster at will as a spell-like ability (caster level 17th), but only against beholders and creatures with the beholderkin subtype. Any such creature can resist this effect with a Will saving throw (DC 28). The save DC is Charisma-based. This is the equivalent of a 9th-level spell. Hive mothers and other overseers are immune to this ability.
The maximum number of beholders and beholderkin an overseer can command at one time equals half its Hit Dice plus its Charisma modifier. Thus, the average overseer can command up to 18 beholders or beholderkin at a time.
If an overseer loses control of a dominated beholder (as is the case if a dominated beholder is in the antimagic cone of another beholder), the overseer can immediately sense the loss of control and knows the position and distance to the beholder at the time control was lost. If control does not return within a few rounds, the overseer seeks out the rogue beholder to investigate and possibly punish it.
Eye Rays (Su): An overseer uses its spell-like abilities by producing magical rays from the eyeballs on its branch-like limbs. Each round, as a standard action, it may use up to 4 of its spell-like abilities within the set limits of uses per day. Treat these as ranged touch attacks with a range of 180 feet and no range increment. An overseer may not use the same spell-like ability two rounds in a row, and may not use the same spell-like ability with more than a single eye in a given round. Typically, an overseer uses three eye rays, leaving it with the option to use either its reactive spell turning or reactive spell immunity (see below) as needed.
Fungal Armor (Ex): A layer of thick, wiry fungus grows on an overseer's body. This provides the overseer with a +6 armor bonus to its Armor Class and gives the overseer a damage reduction of 5/- and a +8 circumstance bonus to Stealth checks as the fungus changes hue to match its surroundings (already figured in the above statistics). Fungal armor has no maximum Dexterity bonus, no armor check penalty and no arcane spell failure chance, and does not reduce the overseer's speed. However, the fungus is vulnerable to extreme temperatures. If an overseer ever fails a saving throw against a fire or cold effect that deals hit point damage, it must make a Fortitude save against the same DC of the attack it was hit with. Failing this Fortitude save means that enough of the fungus has been scoured away from the overseer's body that the overseer loses the benefits of its fungal armor for 1 hour - at which point the fungus has regenerated enough that the benefits are active again. Diminish plants also suppresses the overseer's fungal armor for 1d3 rounds unless the overseer succeeds at a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + spell level + caster's relevant ability score bonus).
Reactive Spell Immunity (Su): Once per round as an immediate action, an overseer can use one of its eye rays to negate a single spell that affects it as the spell is being cast. The overseer must successfully hit the creature that cast the spell in question with a ranged touch attack; if successful, it is immune to that casting of that particular spell. Otherwise, the spell affects the overseer normally (though the overseer is still allowed a saving throw and/or spell resistance if applicable). If the spell influenced by this ability affects multiple targets or an area, it affects any other targets or the area normally, but the overseer remains immune to its effect. An overseer may not use this ability if it is considered flat-footed against the source of the spell, and may not use it in the same round as its reactive spell turning ability.
Reactive Spell Turning (Su): Once per round as an immediate action, an overseer can use one of its eye rays to reflect a single-target spell that targets the overseer back to its source. The overseer must hit the caster with the eye ray; if successful, the target suffers the effects of its own spell, allowing for a saving throw as normal. Otherwise, the spell affects the overseer normally (though the overseer is still allowed a saving throw and/or spell resistance if applicable). An overseer may not use this ability if it is considered flat-footed against the source of the spell, and may not use it in the same round as its reactive spell immunity ability.
An overseer is a particular breed of beholderkin that serves as a direct subordinate to the hive mother in large beholder communities. A beholder hive city ruled by an hive mother always contains a handful of these monstrosities, who concern themselves with keeping watch over lesser beholderkin and report any deviant behaviour to the mother. However, many overseers, possessing the typical beholderkin's arrogance and self-centeredness, chafe at this arrangement and seek greater stations for themselves. While few overseers are reckless enough to directly challenge an hive mother's power, they often vie for the position of favored enforcer, and rivalries among groups of overseers often provide a weak point in a beholder hive city's formidable defenses. A few rare overseers decide to leave beholder communities and seek out non-beholder societies to dominate from behind the scenes, often helped by a few dominated beholderkin.
Perhaps one of the most peculiar characteristics about overseers is the fact that they live in a symbiothic relationship with a strange, otherworldly fungus that grows inside their bodies and expands on their skin. The creature has some measure of control over this fungus, and can vary its color in order to express emotion or camouflage itself, as well as use it as some sort of impromptu body armor. However, the fungus is susceptible to sudden and large variations in environmental temperature - a cold or fire based attack covering a large enough portion of the creature's body can kill enough of the fungus as to temporarily negate its living armor, leaving the overseer in a state of relative vulnerability.
Despite their formidable combat skills, overseers tend to consider themselves above such vulgar activities as physical combat, and their preferred place to be in a conflict is behind charmed and dominated minions, which they're never in short supply of. They usually direct their servants (both beholderkin and otherwise) in battle while at the same time using their spell-like abilities to harass and inflict pain on their enemies. They particularly enjoy disrupting enemy spellcasters, using their reactive spell immunity and spell turning to frustrate them. If forced into physical fighting, they are more than capable of holding their own, but are quick to understand when their situation is becoming untenable, and they rarely hesitate to retreat when significantly injured or when their fungus armor is compromised. An overseer is skilled in the use of several magic items, and typically keeps an item allowing teleportation with itself for such an emergency. However, an overseer will not forget such a humiliation, and is patient enough to wait for years before enacting its revenge, if necessary.
An overseer is about 20 feet tall, though its branch-like limbs can make it appear even larger, and weighs between 7 and 8 tons.

So long story, I started senior year of high expecting nothing but a cruise to an easy degree. Then, our teacher announced the design class (for tech school, a school I go to for part of the day as a version of electives, while taking normal classes at my hometown school) next door has too many kids and some are moving up into our class early. Now I want you to think of your ideal partner. What do they look like, what do they act like, does their hair curl, do they sing too loud in the car, do the twiddle their thumbs when they're nervous, every checklist you could have for a partner.
And who walks in but Mr. Perfect. Every. Single. Box. Ticked. I didn't realize it at the time, I was too busy focusing on my high school degree to realize anything besides a passing, "Eh, he's kinda cute." But the week after, we did presentations with a randomly assigned group partner for an introduction project. He got to see the entirety of mine, but since I didn't know I liked him at the time, I'm not sure if he was paying any attention
When it came his turn for the introduction presentation, I got pulled out of class for some event I can't remember and only saw the first third of his. It was about then that I realized the first signs of a crush were blooming.
I don't fall often, but I've fallen so horrendously disgustingly hard for two people before him that I can recognize the stages of my new crushes. Brief interest and a random nagging feeling, slight blushes and widening eyes out of curiosity, interest, realization, suppression, explosion into full daydreaming obsession, a long time of obsession-depression-acceptance while making no moves besides brief 10 seconds interactions, a creepy amount of staring glances, letting go.
It was I'd say about October when I realized I was already in too deep, I was stuck in crushing waters with no sight of shore. I've never been particularly social, I've struggled with chronic anxiety since the age of 6, along with a lifetime of severe untreated traumas that have left me lacking faith in humanity, but stubbornly optimistic.
It was basically that cycle, constant thoughts, staring, occasional 10 seconds interactions like "standing near each other, holding doors, thank yous and your welcomes, guiding him to whatever art material he needed, occasional glancing, staring way too much at him, way too much daydreaming, learning his last name from a glance at his log in screen, finding an old Instagram from 2021 about him run by a friend of his, buying the same brand of mints, dressing better, caring for my body more, trying to be more social"
I did get some moments here and there, nothing movie worthy but everything to me, it basically became a tradition for me to briefly hold and open the door for him whenever possible, drills, walking out of school, etc. Never waiting too long, just a simple "Thank you!" and "You're welcome.", except if it seemed like he was upset or the wait was too suspiciously long so I'd just open the door as much as possible and hope he'd catch it, or take out my phone and pretend to be texting, so it was "Mhm." instead of "You're welcome."
I eventually got the chance to choose or suggest my seat, so as requested by my teacher, I asked to sit next to him, she put me closer, but my back faces him and we're a row apart separated by giant Mac Monitors so I don't think he can see me either.
Luckily enough, I actually had a vague conversation with him. He's pretty good friends with a girl I sit next to, I'd say me and this girl are probably vague good acquaintances? She's described her and him as friends, but she has a boyfriend. Anyways they were talking about their embarrassing exes, I only caught the tail end and heard that he had one that was a little cuckoo, he was smiling at her but went quiet about it.
Later on I saw him playing this unknown shooter zombie game on the school Mac Monitor, he was talking about something with her, when I somehow got into a conversation with him. We discussed something about Nintendo and how Nintendo 3DS was such a good console for us. He's a quiet but cool kinda guy, so I was a little too excited and rambled about how I lost 3 different 3DS and a bunch of 3DS games too, once on a bus. He turned and gave me a brief eyebrow raise and curious smile from his game, and asked me about it again. So I continued to ramble until the bell rang and our conversation naturally fizzled out.
I can't remember exactly when, but some time after that we had another interaction. I wear giant headphones all the time, and he wears tiny air pods all the time. We were hanging examples of our monthly assignment for presentations like we always do. I hung mine first, the girl next to me didn't even know I was the one who hung it first, so this is what makes it so interesting. He ended up coming to me, airpods out, smiling, saw me with headphones on, and asked me where the frames we use to hang our projects are. I was so shocked that I just blandly said, “Oh, sure.” Led him to the frames, crouching down I opened the drawer and just went, “Here ya’ go.” I remember him having this dreamy smile on his face as he thanked me, but I was kinda obsessing over my work at the time and just mumbled agreement and went back to work. Yes, I did beat myself for basically the entire week after realizing how dumb I was.
Eventually, Valentine's Day rolls around. Our Marketing class swings by and tells us they're selling Valentine's gift deals. Unfortunately, I have a 20$ bill I've been meaning to get rid of, the highest gift deal is 20$, and a crush. Unfortunately, unlike all the other schools, they don't deliver it anomalously, you have to deliver it yourself. (In this modern world? In this economy?) So dumb me, I buy the deal. A handheld heart balloon wrapped in ribbon with a cute bear keychain. I type up a heartfelt letter, place it on the ground in front of his locker, he ignores the strange gift on the ground, and I miss him by a few lockers. The second no one was looking I threw out the note and scrambled the gift into my backpack. Still have it.
Now we get to this week.
I've been dressing better than I ever have, taking care of myself physically and mentally, happier than I've been since I was an ignorant elementary schooler, distant but amiable in conversation with classmates, not too friendly but way less aggressive than I was at the beginning. Unfortunately, I know I've dug my own grave and it's too late to dig myself out, because I can feel the rising heat of magma beneath me.
We ended up doing a project that I need an Exacto Knife for (kind of a very small box cutter used for precise cutting work). It was optional, but helped more with cutting out the images we needed. Especially me, because I needed some pixel art for my project that had a lot of sharp edges and hidden corners a scissor couldn't get too. Our teacher was super busy since it's the last week of school for most of us, so she was rushing from person to person doing important stuff and I didn't want to interrupt, but we can't use an Exacto Knife without her permission, hormonal teenagers with an unsupervised sharp object is rarely a good combination.
We were at the same table, him on one side, me on the opposite. It's a bigger table no one uses except for big projects like this where your original desk space just isn't enough. He was also using an Exacto Knife for his project to get clean edges. He ended up moving to the “gluing images” part of his assignment, but still had the Exacto Knife out, the good one too, the one I was using yesterday. I end up asking him for the knife, gently tapping on the table space next to him so as not to startle him. I may have made a little too much eye contact, but he was gentle and let me grab it. After quite a while, I gave it back, same gentle table tap, gentle thanks. It wasn't long after, a few minutes at most, that I realized I was once again having issues with the scissors, and would need it again. I came over again and asked. He was gentle, I suppose, maybe a little suspicious since a barely invisible classmate acquaintance was talking to him for the 3rd time in a matter of an hour or half. He just said, “Hey, why don't I sign the knife back in so you can sign it back out.” I was surprised, but agreed shyly, and we spent the rest of the class doing our projects and although I caught us locking eyes a few times, nothing more than that.
Anyways, that was a very long ramble, here's some details I couldn't include. I came out as a Trans guy at the start of the year before he came to the class, but I still dress and style very feminine since I live in a very conservative area with questionably supportive parents who don't know, only my Design class knows, because there's like 5 other Trans kids there. I assume he doesn't know me as anything, but my Trans-ness, but I don't know. He seems straight, ex-girlfriend and all. I mean he's snow white, most brilliant blue eyes, dirty blondish brown hair that is so fluffy and curly. We get a random partner assigned and have to give them something encouraging about them specifically. Guess who I got? The girl that sits next to him. I noticed she was kinda shy and insecure at the time, so I gave her a self portrait showcasing her heart and something about kindness. Apparently it had a surprising effect on her, as she started dressing way better and talking more, to him specifically. Jealousy is stupid and I always quell that feeling as soon as it appears, but it does drive me crazy she turned into the girl I wanted so badly to be. His birthday is November 20th, he turned 18 last year in 2023. Scorpio with a 1 day cusp on Sagittarius. IG88A Apr '20 Going after all the sidequests replaying the game it seems as if certain situations and characters are set up in a way that in other games would lead to them becoming travel companions. Going to the kickstarters stretch goals was this planned and a case of cut content? It seems, if you could collect them, you’d have your own “band of bastards” from the characters within the base game but for there being no companion system beside Mutt.
Hear me out and spoilers ahead Ulrich has a speech check to keep him from turning on you which fullon has you ask him to be a companion… but he chooses to leave the game if passed instead. Heineken hare, if you help him, clears his name and… leaves the gameworld forever to go where Sir Divish writes him a letter of recommendation. Matthew and Fritz are deadset on becoming bandits with or without you, have an entire quest tree, kit themselves up with implied highway robbery without you, and… end up hanged or being layabouts in privitslavitz. They quibble about tens of grochen while you have an order of magnitude more money by accident then they’re willing to get hanged over.
and there are probably others people can think of with just enough of a quest tree, full rng response and dialogue mapping more in depth than the common randomly voiced NPC, significant resources put towards a quest chain, and then… nothing. Similarly all the mechanics are coded. directional order controls (dog), the dog tethering, NPC tethering with their own AI behaviors (the bandit morcock leaves with you, who tails you at a soft ~10 yards and will fight enemies and spout random dialogue. the only time it seems this code is used in game.)
With the 4 I mentioned alone that covers tank, dps melee x2, and archery. with the ~70,000 grochen to arm, armor, and horse them along with scaling wages to level and equipment you have your lategame money sink and playloop. Throw in the reputation system dictating if they stay with you (ex. ulrich leaving or turning on the group for banditry, matt and fritz like questionable morals and money- hate charity wasted on others, Hare is ok doing the wrong thing for the right reason, etc.) and you’d have a whole other world of gameplay to explore; self contained on top of what exists but adding greatly to every action in the game world. Every fight becomes the scale of band of bastards with permadeath as the stake. Even the final battle of the main quest would have actual stakes if your own men were climbing the parapets at your back instead of nameless NPCs and Sir Bernard (as it sits you can let everyone get killed and still pass the quest by making it to the courtyard yourself.)
I can’t be the only one who sees the ghosts of a planned recruitment system.

Hi all,
I have read a lot of advice here and elsewhere on preparing for DELF exams, but having just taken the B1 exam, I thought I would share my experience and some tips on the practical events of the exam itself. There are a few things which I thought others may find useful both while preparing and on the day of their exam. Of course, this is just my experience of a single testing centre, on a single day, so YMMV.
(Apologies in advance for the length!)

The candidate manual mentions that you need to enter your “Code candidat” on your answer sheet. I was worried because I hadn’t received that code before arriving for the test. However, this code was issued to me by the examiner, at the examination centre, once I had verified my identity.
Although the candidate manual lists durations for the listening, reading and writing sections, in practice this is a single block of time. The exam booklet you are given at the start contains all three sections together - listening, reading and writing - in that order.

My experience was that I sat together in a room with other candidates, the “listening” section was played out loud to the room and then the clock just ran until the total time elapsed. The candidate manual indicates this is 115 minutes total (25 mins for listening, 45 for reading, 45 for writing), but in practice it was 2 hours (started at 10am, stopped at 12 noon).
My tip here is that if you are worried about the amount of time you need for the writing section, then if you are able to finish the reading section quickly (often considered the easiest section), you may have more than 45 minutes left for writing. I found I had more than an hour, which was very useful for reviewing / correcting my writing.

The “listening” section is considered the most difficult by many candidates and it comes first. For myself as an English speaker in an English-speaking country, often when I first hear French, it takes my brain a few moments to “switch” into French mode. The short introduction from the instructor and then the recorded message wasn’t quite enough for me.

My tip here is that if you want to “cram” something just before the exam, you might do best to focus on audio/listening, to get your ear attuned. I just played the audio from some sample exams available online (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/@frenchnyou/videos)

The instructions tell you to just bring two pens, one black, one blue. In practice, I had tipex and a water bottle on my desk without any issues, but I suppose some centres might be more strict.

My tip here is that having a colour other than black can actually be very helpful. I found for the reading section, it helped to highlight in the text where I found the answers to each of the questions. When I went back to review, I could easily see what I had highlighted, which let me quickly validate whether it was correct.
I also found having a second colour helpful during the presentation element of the speaking section; where I intended to read a quote from the article as part of my introduction and/or conclusion, rather than rewriting it in my notes, I just highlighted it in blue so I could find it quickly on the paper slip.

For the reading section, I had seen sample papers which had the prompt “Mark the best answer” or “Mark whichever options apply” for each question - giving a hint that there was either a single answer, or more than one. In my experience, however, there was a single prompt at the top of the page for all questions: “Mark the best answers”, which removed this advantage.
For the writing section, I ran out of room in the answer booklet and had to write on the back of the last page.

The reason for this, and my tip here, is to consciously leave spaces between your words as you write. Often, if you go back to correct something, it involves adding letters, or injecting a word into the sentence. This can be far easier and the result can look a lot neater if you have some space to work with.

My experience was that the first session (listening/reading/writing) ran in the morning, there was a break and then the second session (speaking) ran in the afternoon. I’d recommend taking some food and water with you, for the break. I was lucky enough to be the first candidate for the second section, but I still had time to eat and do some last-minute preparation. I didn’t want the hassle and distraction of trying to leave the exam centre, find food during the lunch rush, come back, etc.
For the speaking section, the manual tells you there are three elements, but in practice there are four.

Before you get to the speaking part, you have to select the topic for the presentation element and prepare your arguments. I was presented with about 10 pieces of paper face down, from which I picked two, turned them over to read and then selected one as my topic.
My tip here is to first pick the slips of paper that are the smallest. Others may choose differently, but my thinking was that less text would be faster to read and hopefully easier to understand.
Of the two options, I selected the one with the topic which was the most “everyday”. With only a moment to decide, I felt like just going with whatever was likely to have the most common vocabulary was the best idea.

As per common advice, I had a “framework” that I used to prepare for the presentation. Greet the examiners, introduce the document, give the title, the theme, where/when it was published and your plan.

However, my topic didn’t have a publisher and neither did the one I discarded. Of course, that’s just my experience, but I wonder whether this element has been removed from the prompting subjects.
My tip here is that you are allowed to bring both your written notes and the original piece of paper with your topic on it with you to the speaking section. Don’t waste your time re-copying sentences from the text if you don’t need to, just use your non-black coloured pen and underline / highlight the text so you can find it quickly.

The speaking section was conducted alone in another room, where two examiners were waiting for me. Generally, one spoke while the other took notes. My examiners also used a timer on the table in front of me to track how long we had been speaking. Both can be a little distracting.

My tip here is to just stay focused on the person you’re speaking to and try to ignore the distractions around you. Remember to breathe in before you respond - it gives you a few moments to compose your response and set your speaking pace.

The three speaking elements are carried out back-to-back with very little time between them. Your introduction should be known by heart, but the examiner will want to ask you a question or two.

My tip here is that apparently they often ask about whether you have been to France, or are planning to go to France, testing your conjugations. I’d recommend being prepared with answers to those questions. You might also consider “shaping” your introduction to prompt questions you are prepared for (for example I said my brother is a musician, but didn’t say which instrument - I was ready with an answer if they asked).

For the second element, you again pick two options from an unseen set, turn them over, read them and select one as your topic. I used the same approach as for the first element, picking the smallest pieces of paper and then the most “everyday” scenario.

My tip here is to remember that you can ask questions! It is a good way to control the flow of the interaction - if you are asking questions, you know what sort of response to expect, which will help your comprehension. Plus, it gives you time to construct your next sentence while they are speaking.

The final section is certainly the most difficult. They each asked me a lot of different questions and pushed me for answers in different ways.

My tip here again is to remember you can ask questions. I was conscious of getting my tenses right, so when I wasn’t sure, I asked “dans le futur?” for example. This let me be sure of the question and allowed me to use the right tenses in my responses.
All in all, I found the experience pretty stressful, but everyone was very nice and the process was very well-oiled.
Hopefully some of these tips may help other candidates to be successful with their exams - good luck!

I am a newcomer to Canada and have been living in St. John's for about a month. All this time, every day, I've been sending out a bunch of resumes for vacancies, from time to time I bring resumes to institutions, but I have no results! I have been attending ANC classes, rewriting my resume, tailoring it to a specific job, writing cover letters, and nothing.
In Ukraine, I had a medical degree and experience as an administrator in a clinic, but here these paths are closed to me: I don't have a license, and my English is not good enough to work in administration, although I am working on it.
/I knew the situation with finding a job here when I came. I know that some people are looking for a job for 3 months. I know all this, but the financial situation and responsibility towards my partner, who fortunately has a job, makes me desperate./
This was a preface. Guys, maybe someone can give me some advice?

I'm being rejected for Starbucks, although they don't require work experience for barista positions - does anyone know what they look for in a candidate, what is the critical criteria for rejection and acceptance?
Has anyone heard about volunteering at a place (like Starbucks) for free, learning something there, and then getting a job that way? (ANC told me about it)
In general, does anyone know where volunteers with intermediate English and a kind heart are needed?
How do reference letterers work in general? Who can "provide recommendations" to increase the chances of employment?

Share your experience, please, maybe I can learn something useful from it.

Sorry, i believe this is going to be a wall of text.
I've been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia in March last year, and "luckily" was very mild. Little did I know that it would get worse with time. I started with lamotrigine ( the most common medication, I don't remember the name, didn't work for me) 25mg in the morning and 25mg before going to bed. I am now on 200mg in the morning and 200mg in the evening and....of course they stopped working. I had an MRI showing there's an artery pushing on the nerve.
Now, good news is that we have a cause and we know the solution: surgery. Bad news is that surgery with a specialist costs 30k if not covered by insurance, and stupid me decided to change insurer 2 months ago. Guess what? Because TN is a pre existing condition, I have to wait 12 months before being covered and therefore have surgery.
Going back to that artery. Blood flow in it is what "decides" the amount of pain. When I wake up in the morning is tolerable and then slowly gets worse. Blood flow changes with every emotion I feel, happiness, sadness, stress anger you name it. And bloody lamotrigine enhances all of them with the result of me being in pain constantly.
I am stuck.
If I stop taking medication my feelings go back to normal and technically that artery should be more "gentle" because I can somehow control then. But if I stop taking medication, the pain will be intolerable.
Level of lamotrigine in my blood is too high so my neurologist doesn't want to increase the dosage and I agree with him. When I went from 150mg to 200mg I had a terrible time. Like, I cried when I saw a dead pigeon on the street, or I was about to hit one of my employees for a stupid little mistake so I had to get out of there otherwise I would have ended up in jail for homicide. This_is_not_me. Medications changed me and I hate it.
I don't know what my options are, really. I can't get surgery before march, so I have 10 months in which I have to survive.
Does anybody have any suggestions? Please 🙏

Arizona

Supporters of an abortion rights initiative in Arizona have reportedly obtained enough signatures to appear on the November ballot, though it still needs to be verified by the secretary of state this summer. Abortion is currently legal during the first 15 weeks of pregnancy. The proposed ballot measure would amend the Arizona Constitution to establish a fundamental right to abortion before the point of fetal viability (generally around the 24th week of pregnancy).

The initiative gained steam after the Arizona Supreme Court ruled last month that an 1864 territorial ban on abortions is enforceable. Following several attempts by Republicans to block the bill, a coalition of Democrats and several conservatives passed a repeal of the 160-year-old ban earlier this month, reinstating the state’s previous 15-week limit on abortions.

Now, Republican legislators are trying to limit future ballot initiatives—like the one aiming to enshrine abortion rights—with a measure of their own. If passed, the Arizona Signature Distribution Requirement for Initiatives Amendment would change the threshold for petitioners to get a measure on the ballot: instead of requiring 10-15% of all votes cast in the most recent governor’s race (a statewide threshold), the proposed change would force citizen-led efforts to collect 10-15% from each of the state’s 30 legislative districts.

This would require tremendous logistical feats from any citizen-led effort. Canvassers would need to dramatically scale up their presence in the most remote parts of Arizona, unable to rely on high-traffic areas and denser population centers.
Arizonans who have experience working on signature-gathering told Bolts that this requirement could prove insurmountable to them given the resources and capacity it would call for. “This is nothing but a backdoor way to shut down the initiative process,” said Jim Barton, an election law attorney who has been involved in numerous legal fights over the rules of initiatives in Arizona.

If voters approve the Signature Distribution measure, citizens will be left without a valuable tool to affect change in a state whose legislature has been controlled by Republicans for several decades. Arizonans used the ballot initiative process to enact important policies in recent years, including raising the minimum wage in 2016, legalizing marijuana in 2020, and requiring campaign donor transparency in 2022.

Mississippi

Meanwhile, Republicans in Mississippi again rejected legislation to restore citizens’ ability to put measures on the ballot three years after a court ruling took away that right. According to a provision of the state’s constitution written in 1992, a proposed constitutional amendment may be approved to appear on the ballot if organizers gather one-fifth of their signatures from each of the state’s five congressional districts. However, in the 2000 reapportionment process, Mississippi lost one congressional seat due to a decrease in population.
Two decades and numerous ballot initiatives later, a medical marijuana group collected enough signatures to appear on the 2020 ballot. Voters approved the measure with an overwhelming 74% majority, allowing people with debilitating conditions like cancer, PTSD, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease to access medical marijuana. Mary Hawkins Butler, the Republican mayor of Madison (a suburb of Jackson), sued to block the initiative, arguing that organizers did not meet the signature requirement: instead of collecting an equal number of signatures from the mandatory five congressional districts, they could only collect signatures from four, because Mississippi has only had four since 2001.
The state Supreme Court ruled in Mayor Butler’s favor in 2021, voiding not just the medical marijuana initiative but also the state’s entire citizen-led ballot initiative process unless and until the legislature amended the relevant provision of the constitution. Justice Josiah Coleman, writing for the six justice majority, said, “the loss of congressional districts did, indeed, break (the ballot initiative provision) so that, absent amendment, it no longer functions.”
Every year since, the Republican-controlled legislature has killed bills to reinstate voters’ right to place measures on the ballot. The most recent bills, crafted by Republicans themselves, were extremely favorable to the legislature and introduced new barriers to citizen initiatives—and still did not receive consideration.

Missouri

Democrats in Missouri successfully filibustered a bill that would make it harder to pass citizen-led ballot initiatives ahead of a potential measure to enshrine a right to abortion prior to viability. Under current law, a proposed constitutional amendment must be approved by a simple majority of votes cast statewide. The Republican-backed bill, SJR 74, would require proposed amendments to receive a majority of the votes cast statewide as well as a majority of the votes cast in at least a majority of the Congressional districts. Not only would the change institute additional onerous steps for organizers, but it would virtually ensure only conservative amendments succeed due to Missouri’s partisan gerrymandered districts.
In order to entice voters to support their amendment limiting direct democracy, the state GOP attempted to insert what opponents call “ballot candy”: unrelated and superfluous content intended to trick people into voting for a measure they would otherwise oppose. In this case, the ballot candy was a provision banning non-citizens from voting on constitutional amendments and another prohibiting foreign governments from sponsoring initiatives—both of which are already illegal in the state.
Democrats twice filibustered the bill, forcing the Republican supermajority to abandon the measure during the final day of session last week.

Louisiana

Louisiana legislators advanced a proposal (HB 800), backed by Gov. Jeff Landry (R), earlier this month to call a convention to change the state’s 50-year-old constitution. The document is roughly 35,000 words longer than the average state constitution and has been amended more than 200 times. Most people would agree it could be trimmed and streamlined. However, the governor and his Republican allies are pursuing a rewrite for political purposes with little oversight.
First, the timeline: The legislature intends to convene a convention in the next three months, with a two week deadline and no time for public input. The 1973 convention, by contrast, held a series of public meetings across the state for an entire year before writing the state constitution.
Second, the participants: The 1973 convention was composed of elected delegates, many of them average citizens who took an interest in crafting their state’s charter. Landry’s planned convention would be limited to current lawmakers and delegates chosen by Landry himself.
Third, the guidelines: While HB 800 states that delegates cannot change the meaning of certain sections, like retirement benefits for public employees and pay for sheriffs, it lacks any other controls on what they can edit. Furthermore, experts question whether the limits in HB 800 would even be legally binding.

It’s not clear legislators even have the ability to restrict what is discussed during a constitutional convention. Legal experts have said once a convention is called, the entire document can be opened up and altered, regardless of what limitations the lawmakers place on it ahead of time.

Landry and his allies claim they do not have any immediate changes planned and would simply like to move portions of the constitution into the legal code as statutes. However, this would make it easier for the Legislature to change provisions it doesn’t like because of the lower threshold to edit a law versus the constitution. Rep. Beau Beaullieu (R), the author of HB 800, said last week that the provisions he wants to remove from the constitution include sales tax breaks for residential utilities, prescription drugs, and food purchased for home consumption.

“I think all of those tax items should be in statute,” he said. “If there is a better way to bring in revenue for the state, we need to be able to have that on the table.” …The sales tax breaks on food, residential utilities and prescription drugs could be more easily repealed if those provisions were shifted from the constitution into regular law as Beaullieu and Tucker suggested…
[S]ome conservatives in the Legislature want to expand the state sales tax base in exchange for lowering or eliminating the income tax… Advocates for low-income people have opposed proposals to swap out the income tax for broader sales taxes. Wealthy people and businesses pay the state income tax, but poor people do not. People who are struggling would carry a larger share of the financial burden of a sales tax on essentials like food, utilities and prescription drugs, according to the advocates.

One provision Beaullieu has committed to retaining untouched in the constitution: The “Defense of Marriage” section, defining marriage as between a man and woman, would be retained in case the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Obergefell v. Hodges, making same-sex marriage immediately unlawful again in Louisiana.
If HB 800 passes the Senate, and the convention successfully creates a new constitution, voters will be able to approve or reject the revised document in November.

This is simply one of the friends that was in the car and at the restaurant and club with them. This poor man has not committed any crime, was not an accomplice but just someone who wanted a ride back home in a fun car and yet is infamous now because Media doesn't fact check thoroughly.
The CCTV footage of Cosie doesn't even have Vedant Agarwal in it. Although that was indeed the table that the group of friends were stationed at, Vedant is not seen anywhere throughout the video footage, Media framed the innocent guy getting beaten up in the viral video (the blue shirt kid) as Vedant and that is who we see in the footage. Now while there is no video evidence of Vedant drinking, it is true according to a re-test that he was indeed under influence but his BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) was not released.
Vedant's blood alcohol content did not amount to 40%. Amongst the alcoholic beverages that the entire table ordered which ranged from a few light beers to whiskey to vodka, news sites are using the fact that the vodka ordered has an alcohol content of 40% in their headlines and uneducated civilians (which are a lot) think that is what his blood alcohol percentage was. I mean just a 0.30% BAC is more than enough to kill a person due to alcohol poisoning, and even to achieve this level you would have to drink perhaps half a litre of strong nail polish remover.
Vedant did NOT drink alcohol worth ₹48,000 in under 90 minutes. The duration of him being out to celebrate was around 4-5 hours, he drank alcohol during this time. Since this ₹48,000 bill was only of the Cosie restaurant, I will only talk of that. First let us understand how Cosie works. Cosie offers you an option to book a table, the advantage of this is that you have a place to sit and keep your belongings safe, a personal attendant, better accessibility to all of Cosie's features, easier entry into the restaurant which on a Saturday night is very difficult, exclusivity as not everyone can afford spending the high upfront cost of a table and the most important being that the cost of the table can be used up as balance on which you order food or drinks. This means that a table that costs ₹48,000 to book allows the table to order food and drinks worth up to that amount. Cosie tables vary in prices based on where in the restaurant you get them and how large the table is. Since the entire friend group would be present, one of the larger tables was booked which is what made the billing amount to ₹48,000. Each friend contributed and split this amount so that they could afford it into well over 12-15 parts making the spend per person around ₹3,000 which is normal for anyone wishing to go to a pub and keep their stomachs fed in Koregaon Park on a Saturday night. I would also like to mention that the group ordered not too many drinks but few that were high quality and expensive on their own but made even more expensive by the absurd overpricing we see in most such places and Cosie takes that to the extreme, that's how they make a profit while giving you a seemingly "worth it" offer when booking a table. Only around a pair of Hoegaarden Beers, a bottle of Absolut Vodka and 1 Johnnie Walker Black Label along with a good amount of food and many non-alcoholic beverages like CocaCola or RedBull were ordered for not just Vedant and not even just the 12-15 people of the group but even the many mutuals that tagged along and took advantage of their related friend's table having that balance. This means that Vedant may not have been as drunk as people suggest. Furthermore, all these items were priced nearly 3 times their original cost making the bill so expensive.
The riders were not wearing any protection gear, also broke the Traffic Code and didn't adhere to Road Safety Regulations. The two victims who's lives were lost in the accident are not fully out of blame. Yes, the blame they hold for the incident is probably a very small percentage but as I said earlier, for true justice, all variables must be taken into account. The riders were not wearing any gear and most importantly did not have a helmet on. The sudden deaths of both riders was due to the impact on their heads, other parts of their body were barely effected even when considering the speed of the car. This means that if they were wearing helmets, they very likely would have lived to fight for their own justice. Additionally, they too were going pretty fast. The two came out of another Club called Ballr and indeed were also under the influence of alcohol which is why their life insurance was denied. Neither of the two riders looked left or right and took a very sharp U-turn, this would have made them seem to appear out of nowhere if Vedant was only looking perfectly straight. Vedant's car was an Electric vehicle that does not make much noise at all specially unlike most Supercars so an argument can be made that they didn't hear him coming and thus speedily went forward (which still means they broke regulations and guidelines) but the sheer speed at which Vedant drove clearly made enough road noise as other pedestrians quickly moved away to avoid getting hit by the car. All of this can be confirmed by taking a deep look at the CCTV footage of the area of accident.
The people don't care as much as they're made to think they do. The entire Pune community has been enraged recently and rightfully so. But don't you find it a little strange how even though this is in no way the first or most dangerous drunk driving case in Pune due to irresponsible authorities, never has Pune seen such an uproar? Well, propaganda lead by politics has a part to play. It is election season and every party constantly and desperately searches at this time for ways to prove each other wrong. And what better way for the opposition to get a chance in overthrowing the ruling party than to turn the citizens, communities and its media against the ruling party which are the current active authorities? The easiest way to do this is simple and has been being used since the British Raj in many different ways on many different levels, the divide and conquer to build dispute and ruckus method. It is how the British colonised us using their Rich-Poor speeches, it is how BJP won the country using their Hindu-Muslim speeches, it is how lower income state ministries like Bihar are won over using their Brahman-Dalit speeches and it is how the entire city decided from the second they saw a Porsche Taycan instead of a Suzuki Swift without even taking into account absolutely anything else or getting to know more that the rich and specially the rich accountable are demons and murderers and not instead just immature children causing accidents due to carelessness of the ones in charge. These people for their own gains are directing the media using their influence and in some cases even money, and because of 'monkey do what monkey see' everyone else follows and repeats the same. I myself am not well off financially at all, but at least I don't simply hate the rich and chant "eat the rich!" simply out of envy. The public is doing the right thing by actually talking about the issue and keeping it relevant, but its just sad to see how they aren't doing it intrinsically and are being manipulated into caring so much about it by authorities and community leaders that wish for their own gains. Ask yourself, would it go this far if the accused was still wealthy and fed the police/law money to get away but was in a cheap car in a less crowed area in an off-election season? Would the crime that holds the same value be treated in the same way? If you answered "Yes" then you are wrong, because that exactly has indeed happened before in Pune itself by a person with political ties and nobody cared then.
A lot more is unknown or at least not publicly shared, but I won't go further into those topics since my seniors may figure out it is me writing this. All I ask of you, my fellow Punekars , is to think for yourselves as you bring justice because otherwise your justice has no true value to it and we all will lose even if we win.

^{Finally, I just want to make some requests. One is that everyone who goes to visit the scene of the accident to pay their respects to the deceased, PLEASE wear helmets when you come on two-wheelers. The amount of people I see on an almost daily basis show up there to spread awareness about rules and regulations and following correct traffic laws while repeating the same mistakes seems so disrespectful to the deceased in my opinion. I do not care if you have a death wish and hate wearing helmets for your daily commute, but at least when showing up for this, wear one. If you see someone there who isn't wearing one, tell them to wear one. They're not too expensive when you understand how valuable they are. Two is that people need to go a little bit easier on the father, yes it was his carelessness and lack of dealing with his responsibilities that played a part in causing the accident but at the same time, from a father's perspective, he was just trying to give his child a life he was probably unable to have. We all want to earn to keep our families happy and satisfied and work hard in discomfort so that they live easily, he wanted the same but got carried away by it. Blame him for his irresponsibility but don't call him a murderer and throw ink on him when his only mistake was to trust his own son. I personally find the managers at Cosie, Blak and Ballr as well as the RTO police and authorities that allowed these places to stay operating that late at night at more fault than the father. At the same time, when you do speak of Vedant even, do remember that he indeed is just a child and has a not fully developed brain, you aren't telling an adult who caused an accident to kill himself or worse but a child that was already going through severe depression and other mental as well as physical troubles. Justice will be served and I believe in us to gain it, but we must be weary of in what manner we wish to gain it.}

I think that the Home Office wants to see that it is a proper relationship akin to marriage. I will never know, but it may be a factor that I was switching from a skilled worker visa, and I had been paying taxes, but this is just a guess not based on anything.

I am in a bit of a pickle right now, as I don't know really where to continue.
I want to reverse engineer a game, more specifically its assets. As far as I know, the levels, sound, possibly music and everything else is packed into dat files. The game in question is "Angel at Dusk"
I tried to look into the exe with ghidra, hoping to find the key for them. I found a few very long strings (thousands of letters and more), which I doubt to be the key. What I could find out about the game though, is the following:

The game is written in C++, as it has References to various .cpp files
It utilizes DirectX 11
The .dat files are most likely encrypted and not binary, as trid could not return any type of file.
The game references to these files like paths, for example "wav_cursor.wav" inside "sound.dat" becomes "sound\\wav_cursor.wav"

I have already put a python script together that is supposed to get the files from the .dat file, but what I obviously need is that darn key.
The first 16 bytes of the dat file are:

What is Pokémon Magenta?
Pokémon Magenta is a fan game currently in development since 2023.
The game is intended to be a love letter to Pokémon fans, particularly older fans that really enjoyed the first three generations of games but feel like the newer games don't provide enough depth and challenge.
What is the release schedule like and how can I play it?
The game is currently in an alpha testing phase, with a new release version usually posted every month. The current version (0.2) features content up till the second Gym Leader: Misty. The goal is to have the main game finished by the end of 2024, but the full development cycle will likely span over the course of three to four years.

What about Mega Evolution?
The game does not feature Mega Evolution, although some of the aspects of certain Mega Evolved Pokémon have been integrated into their normal forms, such as Bulbasaur having Thick Fat as a possible ability for example.
What about balancing? How difficult is it?
Pokémon Magenta is tuned to be much more difficult than the normal Pokémon games, but not at the unforgivable difficulty levels of Kaizo Pokémon games. All Gym Leaders have full teams of six Pokémon with carefully selected moves, items and maxed out EVs in order to turn them into proper boss fights. There are also many minor boss fights that can also be quite challenging. Normal trainers are balanced to be nice sources of experience that can sometimes also provide a bit of challenge and catch you off-guard.
What is the general aesthetic of the game?
The game uses generation 3 sprites and strives to follow the general aesthetic of FRLG and RSE as much as possible, but some elements have been slightly adjusted for the sake of general design and convenience.
