Yesterday night I DMed for the second time. As a oneshot, my Friends made their characters as Half-oni Barbarian, Goliath cleric, Thiefling bard(multiclass Rogue) and halfling monk.
As we didn't have too much time to play I warned them that I was going to railroad the plot quite hard.
Mission starts: they are in the adventurers guild on a desert city. They are tasked with finding an "avernus flower" which can be found just a half day travel from there.
While they are being explained about it. A Explorer comes in and warns everybody That "Hofnar" has returned.
Everybody (except the party) decides to abandon the quest.
Party asks around who is "Hofnar" and they are told it's an adult brass dragón that has built his lair in the middle of the road and avoiding his territory would mean (most likely) not being able to find the flower in time.
At the beginning the party is reluctant to go so they ask around for more information on the dragon and the desert. They ask a dwarf who warns them that Hofnar Isnt "Dangerous" but it's just so annoying they would preffer his fire breath than talking to him.
The they ask an elf about the desert and learn that the Main danger are giant Scorpions.
The party is ready to go now. (They just decided to take a little detour to annoy a merchant) and spends a Good 20 minutes roleplaying with each other, then when their conversation is dying down I inform them that they can see on the distance 6 giant Scorpions.
They approach with speak with animals. I Made them roll arcana checks, perception checks etc, but they fail all the rolls.
Me: "the scorpion rushes at You but stops cold in it's tracks, it's needle and pincers just an inch of your skin"
The bard tries to play a song to deescalate the situation.
Me: "the other 5 Scorpions come in rushing at you but they don't attack"
Party: we want to roll for interpretation. (They roll real high)
Me: "the Scorpions starts doing something like a dance but You start noticing that they pass through each other and kind of blend within one another"
Party: "they are an Illusion!?"
Me: "yup"
Me: "You just now realice that none of the giant Scorpions actually has a shadow"
The bard: "we are fckng stupid" The cleric: "we will never, tell anyone of this!" The Barbarian: "welp no one is hurt" The monk: "except maybe our egos"
They keep walking towards their objective when they encounter some ruins (a different giant scorpion told them that was the dragón lair)
They went in. Knowing the dragón wasnt Home.
Me: "when you reach the temple you notice that: in each side on the walls there are small channels of water, that go along all the ruins"
They explore the ruins and find the place where the Dragón attends his guests. The Bard/Rogue decides to check If she can find something valuable. She finds a dragon scale.
They notice there are stairs to go underground but decided that would be tempting their luck a bit too much and decide to leave.
When leaving I mention the small water channels again during my description. And the cleric decides to roll to investigate.
Nat 20
Me: "You notice it's just normal water but You now remember a detail from your education about dragons a long time ago. A Brass dragon knows of Any inteligent creature within it's domain that is less than 30 feet of a body of water"
Cleric: "thousand yard stare" Rest of the party: "what happens!?" Cleric: "we fcked up"
Me: "the dragón is nowhere to be seen but you're aware that it has known your exact location for some time now"
Cleric: "we should be running" Bard: "If You can hear me. I'm sorry!"
They run until they are eventualy caught by the dragón. So I start trying to be as annoying as possible: I'm doing a mixture of Cato Sicarius from TTS and Johnny Bravo.
Me: "why are You leaving so soon? I tought You would like to talk a bit!? I mean it's not everyday that You lowly humanoids can gaze upon someone as magnificent as me! Hofnar the great!. Huh hah!"
Cleric: "i'm sorry great one but we are really busy in an important mission"
Me: "is there anything more importante than gazing upon the magnificent form of Hofnar the great!? Just look at me: I'm handsome, powerful, awesome, beautiful, wise, intelligent, magnificent and humble!"
My Friends just Lost their crap laughing and so did I.
This continúed for a while until the party tricked Hofnar into showing them his incredibly Legendary speed feats.
Hofnar the great of course wanting to brag about it. Falls for the obvious deception and flies off the distance at maximum speed.
Party runs away, eventualy get into the cave with the entrace to avernus, gets high on shrooms, beat up the poor cambion protecting the flower. Return Home, claim reward and abandon the desert city as fast as they could afraid that a very pissed HOFNAR THE GREAT! would ever find them.
My Friends congratulated me on this and we all had a Good time so I wanted to share

Posting my response to a separate thread about "Why the DNC won't replace Joe Biden for 2024" here (as requested by other Redditors):
In order to understand Joe Biden, you need to understand what makes Delaware different from the other 49 States. For those of you who don't know anything about Delaware, the Corpo-State that Joe Biden represented in the US Senate for his entire adult life, the key thing to understand is that this 2nd smallest state in the nation is run solely BY corporations and FOR corporations. 99% of US Corporations have their Corporate HQ in Delaware (this is not to be confused with their Operations HQ, which can be located in any state). Corporate HQ just means where the business is merely located on paper for legal reasons. The main industries in Delaware are Corporate Registered Agent Services and rental mailboxes for corporations so they can maintain the bare minimum presence in the state. There are more PO Boxes per resident in Delaware than any other state in the country (these PO Boxes serving as Goodfellas-like Ratholes). I know that many people will read this and say "so what? all of America is owned/run by corporations" --- my point is not to argue against you, but to explain that corporate power in other states, while large, is nothing compared relatively to Delaware (which is literally just a proxy for corporate power that is masquerading as a state).
Once you understand this about Delaware, it becomes easier to see how & why Joe Biden, the most corrupt President this century, cannot easily be replaced. In his home state, this corruption is not just expected by the donors but also by the citizens themselves (who all mostly work in some capacity for this Corpo-State support structure & thus have their own interests aligned with Big Corpo). Joe Biden was the corrupt Establishment plant installed as VP to make sure that our first Black President, Barrack Obama, didn't/couldn't actually stray too far from the Establishment Plantation and actually govern like the angry Black guy who would stick it to "The Man" that America wanted him to be & voted for him to be in the wake of the 2008 Financial Crisis caused by corrupt big banks. Joe Biden was installed as VP to make sure Barrack Obama didn't stray too far from what the corrupt donor class wanted. That the Corpo Establishment was able to get an additional 4 years (and possibly 8) out of Biden as President has just been a big additional bonus.
They won't run another candidate because the people actually in charge literally do not care one bit about the same things that you do Mr. or Ms. Average Democrat Voter Reading This At Home. Keeping the Biden Crime Family in charge is priority #1 and is the only explanation that fills in all gaps given all of the inexplicable behavior by the media, the DNC, the Donor Elites, and corrupt foreign + supranational powers (such as the UN and WEF). Actual Liberal voters are unfortunately just the Useful Idiots who were tricked into supporting him and repeatedly gaslighted in order to maintain their support vis-a-vis such idiotic sloganeering such as "Saving Democracy"... because it's much cheaper getting people to vote on the basis of hot air and dumb slogans than it is to actually give them stuff they want like healthcare or education.

Two months before Wei-lo's graduation, the Middle Empire invaded the Swampland. Wei-lo was transferred from the Academy straight to the front. At first Wei-lo served in the 5th Artillery brigade [counter-assault guard team] Thanks to his exemplary actions, Wei-lo went for a promotion. And due to the high casualties, his career developed rapidly [guard team leader - counter-assault junior guard commander - counter-assault senior guard commander] However, the brigade's military officials blocked Wei-lo's further promotion [the reason was racism]
Soon Wei-lo was [fake] accused of insubordination, stripped of his position and transferred to the 4th Fire Division [support brigade] During the battles in the Uh Fuwen Great Swamp and the Gwu mushroom fields, Wei-lo showed the highest military intelligence and got a rapid promotion again. He rose to the supreme commander of the support brigade. At the same time, the feedback of the command and colleagues about him was mixed. Some praised him for his initiative, intelligence, determination and superior skills. Others openly accused of ideological promiscuity, fraternization with soldiers and baseness of origin.

However, due to the negligent attitude of the healers and servants [an attempted murder is suspected], internal inflammation began, and Wei-lo soon fell ill with a black fever.
Wei-lo was ill for almost 5 months. Despite the complete non-interference of the healers, he managed to recover. When Wei-lo returned to the army, he found that during his illness he had been stripped of his rank, and the 46th trench brigade was transferred to the commander Tou A-xiu [previously led the destroyed 14th Infantry Division] Due to incompetent management, the 46th brigade suffered huge casualties and was knocked out of previously captured Sectors.
Gao Wei-lo took this news as a betrayal of the Empire. He submitted a report on voluntary dismissal without payment of a military pension. The Military Administration refused him, Wei-lo received only a month's leave. This month was supposed to be spent with his sister, who was sent to the front according to the Gift to the Honest decree. It became the last straw of Wei-lo's patience [he realized that this was a direct compulsion to continue the service] It was then that Gao Wei-lo made the only right decision.
With the help of his friends from the Vanguard and the support brigades [Wei-lo doesn't give their names for their safety reasons], Wei-lo secretly freed his sister, crossed the neutral land with her and few soldiers loyal to him in [relatively safe] Sector Two-Six and surrendered to the 11th Intelligence Brigade of the Swamp Army. Wei-lo's only demands were the safety of his sister and friends and his immediate return to the front, but already as part of the Assault Battalion of the Swamp Army [as proof of loyalty, Wei-lo provided the head of a military official, later identified as Xu Lo-ma, 6th rank mong-lao]
After interrogations and consideration of his track record, Wei-lo's demands were satisfied. By personal decree of the Head of the Military Council [Ching Guh] Gao Wei-lo took the position of junior headnewt of the 4th hundred of the Assault Battalion. Soon [after the death of headnewt Wangh-goh Chugh-tsung] Wei-lo became a headnewt. Under his command, the 4th hundred took part in the 3rd battle in the Fushiga Forest. Im seeing misconceptions about the difference between part time and full time degree so im here to provide a more generic and a clearer understanding to them. Be warned that im going to be brutally honest.
If you are even given a choice between FT and PT, always choose FT otherwise you would be giving yourself unnecessary burden and stress. The huge difference in admission requirement is due to PT mainly reserved for working adults. However if you are not a working adult/ dont have difficult financial situation in your family there is literally low merit in going PT as you will have way less time to study and be more tired due to working. There will also be no student life and you might probably prolong your degree due to lack of time for studying. Although some people did succeed by gaining work experience and finishing the degree on time, it is not recommended as the stress you will be facing is way more than you can ever imagine.
For those that cannot enter FT due to less than 3.0 GPA/ Low RP/ dont meet admission standards, you can take a gap year and gain the relevant work experience to the degree you want before applying again or enter PT degree while continuing to work. Realistically you got to work harder to make up for your low academic standards in your tertiary education so its pretty justified in my opinion.
Also note that you CANNOT change from PT to FT as the admission and curriculum is very different from FT.
SUSS is by no means a bad school but it still cannot hold a candle to the Big 3 comparing the same type of degree so even if you are in FT do not get complacent as you are not only competing within SUSS, but other graduates from the other more reputable Unis when you start working. Although many people like to say that degree is just a paper, we cannot deny that a degree still determines your starting point. So work hard, expand your connections, and improve your skills to secure a better future. ATB to everyone.

I’m thinking of enrolling in the Sangeet Praveen degree (equivalent to M.A. in Music) from Prayag Sangeet Samiti because that’s the only distance education Music degree I found and My qualifications is that I have already completed the Sangeet Prabhakar (equivalent of Bachelors) from here 4-5 years back. Their Prabhakar certificates are accepted in BHU (Banaras Hindu University) as well as CBSE. But my main question is have any of you done a course from this university, what’s the scope, were you rejected/accepted because of this degree. If I ever want to pursue phd in music, would I be able to?

BACKGROUND
so, a little background, ive been a member of a teens-youg adult group at a local gameshop for a few years now and aside from the DMs everyone has stayed from when i first joined, as for the current DM he has run the last 3 campaigns (a VTM, WTA and the current 3.5) and definatly seems of the CN variety as he tends not to stress the hard details/rules too much and often decides against looking up specific rules (called shots, unusual battlegrounds, special attacks, multiclass rules, etc) in favor of creating a quick patch for the circumstances and keeping with it should it come up again(unless someone brings up a specific concern). he plays by the rules of "the stronger you make your characters the stronger monsters you'll find" (which is fine, keeps encounters interesting and you get cooler monsters to fight). as for character creation we started lvl 4 and it was my first time playing 3.5 (had experience with pathfinder 1e tho) he allowed a surprising amount of books to draw from and i decided to make a cleric of gorum (pathfinder battle deity i ran by him first) and eventually landed on a half ogre(from savage species 1 lvl adjustment, +6 str -2dex +2con -2 int -2cha, large size) 1 lvl in barbarian with variant whirling frenzy rage, 2 lvl cleric with war(greatsword) and str domains. i continued to lvl cleric to lvl 3 and then just before THE SESSION took place i took a lvl in shaman (oriental adventures, domains: str and wrath), the feats he had were power attack, additional rage and battle jump(oriental adventures, different from battle leap) at this point we were lvl 6.(side note, all characters had max hp for their hit dice per lvl). the party consisted of: half elf paladin of freedom(healer, frontliner), an assimar cleric of anubis (healer, damage caster), bugbear pugilist fighter(tank/vanguard, comic relief), and me(healer, dps and slight glass cannon)
THE SESSION
the session started out pretty standard, we had spent the last 8 or so sessions exploring a megadungeon and we had left off in some catacombs, few traps here and there we arrive at where the main fight happens, we were fighting a giant praying mantis and a giant python, me, the paladin and the fighter start fighting the mantis and the anubian cleric starts a sandstorm around the python, a few rounds in and the mantis is mostly down due to my damage(i have noticed in a few prior fights that i have a significantly higher dps than the rest but i brushed it off with the thought that i also had the least hit points and get much closer to dieing most fights), meanwhile the python has managed to grab the cleric and has started constricting him rendering him somewhat in a pickle, the paladin on their turn (just before mine) manages to finish the mantis off so i decide to pull out the combo that i had just assembled on the python, using my str domain ability and having had both animal's frenzy and bulls strength + rage on me i had quite the str that round (32 for a +11str) and i used both battle jump and Rino's rush(from the wrath domain) to give a x4 to my charge attack and deal a nice round 160 dmg in one strike, as i was somewhat explaining what i was doing the others(fighter and paladin) were warning me against it due to prior rule regarding powerful characters and that i might hit the cleric(to which i was confidant enough my at the moment +21(which rolled to a 33) to hit wouldn't miss the snake), as i concluded damage calculations the dm looked to the other cleric and said to take half(80) of that damage which already being down 30-40 hitpoints instantly killed them and the dm promptly explained that the snake had only received 80 dmg as well and that it was due to how the constriction worked. i then proceeded to get somewhat berated by F and P (the cleric was somewhat quiet and had somewhat continued to work on his tank backup he ironically had been making before the session began) about how i shouldn't have assumed that the DM would let me just hit the snake and not my own ally(it is worth mentioning at this point two things, A. that no one had landed a hit on the snake during constriction and thus we didnt know the damage sharing ability and B. that even without the battle jump and rino's rush if i just walked up to the snake and hit it twice(not difficult with +21 against aproxamate ac 22) i still would have likely ended up killing the cleric since he stated that even 36 damage would have instakilled him (avg damage per hit with these buffs applied added up to 3d6(13.5)+23 dmg and constriction and or bleed would kill him) and when i protested to the dm that there are ways to deal damage without striking it down the middle (ex, cut off the snake's heat) he said i never asked for a called shot. i was then declared to have moved down to chaotic evil (priorly CN who at the start of the campaign was CG and had moved down due to breaking a parley declared by ambushing kobolds and a kobold mage whom i thought would be enemies of the faith due to gorum's tenants which in hindsight was meant to become a social encounter) despite (at that point) my intent to grieve once the battle was over(the cleric had been the kindest in the party thus far and i was still trying to play CG). i could somewhat see where the alignment change had come from since actions determine alignment and thus i could still reclaim my alignment by properly displaying my atonement and sorrow and desire to do better(and i spent a good few minutes trying to figure out how to revive him cause at this point i knew i had screwed up and needed to try to fix it). aside from that it was now the fighter's turn and at this point i got slightly distracted trying to help cleric with his backup and went to grab/check the index of a book on the far shelf, when i returned a minute later it was the python's turn and it attacked me (naturally) and had transformed into a dragon(which at this point was the only time id seen the dm rebalance a combat mid combat) which then proceeded to one-shot me to death despite only being down 10hp this whole fight and as far as im aware he never even bothered to ask for AC(when i had just made a massive AC boost from scale male to +1 plate earlier no less) and when the paladin attacked after both us clerics hit the floor and got a 32 to hit on a smite missed, after P and F consulted about escaping and/or retrieving the anubian cleric's body(whom it was stated was beginning to be devoured alongside mine) the dm did some deus ex machina'ing (which he has done before mostly to prevent large numbers of character deaths in the past and not unusual for the table considering we swim in powerful company frequently). after the session as me and cleric were setting up new characters and after being threatened if i made another min-maxed character(of which there was very little of deliberatly done, im not known for playing broken characters (gimmicky? yes, broken? rarely or only as ideas) cleric said that he was fine with me having killed his character which helped me feel a bit better about the whole thing but im still troubled about how DM, P and F reacted respectively to the event. AITA?

Hi! I work at a daycare, and I’ve noticed that one of the children's parents always makes inappropriate comments to me. At first, I thought he was just one of those people who always compliment others or that he just wanted to have a friendly relationship with his kids' educators, but now I think it’s more than that.
During my first weeks there, I was always assigned to his younger daughter’s group (the babies), so I would see him often. At first, it was brief friendly talk, but it really escalated when I started working with the older kids (4-year-olds). His other daughter, let’s call her Emmy, and I clicked right away when we found out we’re birthday twins. She always wants me to play with her and asks for hugs literally every two minutes. Whenever her dad comes to pick up his kids, she always makes sure to give me a big hug and tells her dad that we’re best friends.
Last month, Emmy’s dad and I ran into each other at the grocery store and started small talk. We were mostly talking about Emmy, and he just kept saying how much she loves me and that she wants me to come over to their house. I said something like, “Oh, she’s so cute. I love spending time with her too,” and tried to end the conversation, but he just kept talking. I noticed him looking at my chest a couple of times, which was one of the reasons I wanted to leave. He then offered me a ride, and although I initially declined, he kept pushing it, so I accepted. I didn’t let him see my house; I told him to drop me off downtown.
Since then, I keep running into him, but to the point where I don’t think it’s a coincidence. He doesn’t live in the same neighborhood as me (I live near downtown). In fact, when he dropped me off the first time, he kept going on and on about how he could never live somewhere as far away as I do. So why do I keep seeing him? In our conversations, he always makes sure to compliment my physical appearance or mention my age and how “young and smart” I am. It obviously makes me uncomfortable, but for the sake of his daughters, especially Emmy, I don’t really say anything. I have tried to set some boundaries, but it’s really uncomfortable. I jokingly said once, “Well, if I were your age, I don’t think I’d date someone as young as me,” and he was like, “Well, good thing I would,” and he laughed.
I casually mentioned this in a conversation with one of my colleagues, and she said something like, “Oh, he’s a flirt; that’s what he does.” She kept talking about how handsome he is (he is handsome but also a married dad of two). I asked if there’s anything we, as educators, could do if, hypothetically, a parent is being too friendly/flirty with us, and she basically said no.
Anyway, it’s gotten hot outside, so I’ve started wearing sundresses, shorts, and crop tops, and he always compliments my outfits when he sees me and says he likes seeing my bellybutton piercing out (EW). Also, Emmy has told me that her dad said I’ll be their nanny for the weekends when the daycare is closed. I don’t know if he actually said that because she’s 4, but I don’t even want to ask because I don’t want to give him ideas if he didn’t actually say it.
He has tried multiple times to give me his phone number to “call him if there’s anything,” and I always gently reminded him that we can communicate through the daycare app. He always says that he would rather call me directly than through the app. He was being super pushy, and I felt a little trapped, so I gave him my phone number. He texts me all the time, asking what I’m doing, etc. I have FaceTimed his daughters a couple of times, but it just feels wrong. I briefly talked about this to a friend, and she said that she would’ve told his wife. I don’t even think I have the guts to do that. Ever since my friend told me that, I started casually bringing up his wife in conversations. He would always change the subject or say she’s not here.
Anyway, all this is to ask: what should I do? Am I imagining things? I feel trapped. I can’t lose my job; I’m scared that it’ll take me forever to find another one. Also, all the kids love me, and I love them. I’ve really gotten attached to them. I love Emmy too, and I mostly feel bad for her. What would you do in this situation? I’ve asked, and you can’t ban a family from attending a daycare, so that option is out of the window. Also, we can’t be on our phones 24/7, so it’s extremely hard to get “evidence.” Anything helps. Edit: I’ve never seen his wife, he’s the one who does everything. Emmy has mentioned her a few times (saying things like “Mommy got me this shirt” or something) but I don’t even know what she looks like. He doesn’t talk about her unless I bring her up.
Edit 2: About the crop tops, we are allowed to wear them at work with long pants. Same thing with shorts, we can wear them with a non-cropped shirt. 90% of his comments about my piercing were outside of work, when I would run into him. Also, I blocked him. I don’t know if he noticed, but he’s blocked.
Edit 3: A lot of people are asking me why/what I am scared of. I don’t have an exact answer. I’ve had a lot of traumatizing experiences with men so I don’t feel comfortable around any man in general. I don’t have any guy friends. It’s like I think of all the things they could do to me if they wanted to, then I get scared/uncomfortable. I know I have a fawn trauma response and I am working on it, I really am. Also, I have work on Friday (or Wednesday maybe) and I will talk to my supervisors and update.

i tried to talk to one of my supervisors about it but rn they’re always busy (they’re the new owners of the daycare so they’re trying to figure everything out) so it’s never a good time. i am alone with my group. i see him in the morning when he’s dropping off emmy and in the afternoon outside when he’s picking his kids up. our conversation in the morning are more brief bc all the parents are coming at the same time so there’s not much time. in the afternoon, he always tells emmy to keep playing with her friends just to buy more time and when i tell him i have to go back to watching everyone he says that there are plenty of other educators who are watching them and not to worry about it. i try to say things like hey i really have to go back to work/now’s not a right time but it’s like there’s nothing i can say to get through to him. im the one in charge of emmy i have to be the one to talk to him about emmy’s day etc

Hello everyone,
I want to thank everyone who gave me advice. I tried to read every comment. Before I give you an update, I need to clarify a few things:

I don’t work at a school; it's a private, family-owned (i think) daycare. I have three managers—two women and one man. They became the new owners in January. I primarily interact with one of the female managers. I've tried to discuss this situation with her, but it’s never the right time. For example, I’d knock on her office door and say I needed to talk about Emmy’s dad. She’d say she’s busy and ask me to come back later. When I did, she’d apologize and ask to talk the next day. She also suggested texting, but I didn't feel comfortable telling her everything through text.
Some suggested having another teacher watch my group when he arrives, but that’s not possible. In the afternoon, after nap time, we take the kids outside until their parents pick them up. All educators need to stay outside to supervise. When parents arrive, I discuss their child's day and hand over their keychain. It’s difficult because he always approaches me when I’m distracted, so I can’t warn a coworker.
Rides: The first time I saw him outside of work was at the grocery store. He recognized me, we chatted briefly, and he offered me a ride. I declined, but he insisted, saying it was ungentlemanly to let me carry groceries alone. He paid for my groceries and drove me home, despite my discomfort. I sat in the backseat, but still. I shouldn’t have said yes. I was just so weirded out by the entire situation. The second time was at a gas station. After hanging out with a friend in his neighborhood, I stopped there for a drink. He saw me and again offered a ride. He was pushy, so I reluctantly agreed. That was the last time I accepted a ride from him.
Clothing: Most of his comments about my piercing happened outside of work. I don’t wear revealing clothes to work; I mostly wear sweats. Occasionally, I wear a long sleeve crop top with sweatpants, which my managers don’t mind. We’re allowed to wear mom shorts. But again, I most of the time I wear sweats.
Facetime: I’ve Facetimed his daughters three times, and each call lasted less than five minutes. I realize now that this was inappropriate, but yes it happened.
Texting: I don’t always respond to his texts. If he texts ten times, I might reply three times. The thing is, he often asks in person why I don’t respond, telling me he had something important to say. He’d sometimes say that in front of Emmy, then say, “You see that Emmy, she’s not nice to Daddy. She doesn’t want to talk to me.”
I live in Canada. Some suggested carrying pepper spray for protection, but it’s illegal here, so that’s not an option.
I don’t know his exact age, but I’d guess late 30s to mid-40s. I’ve never seen his wife; some suggested they might be separated. Maybe. Emmy has mentioned her mom before, but she seems closer to her dad.
The dating comment: I had ZERO idea my comment could be seen as flirting. I thought I was indirectly turning him down. When the topic of dating came up, I said I didn’t want a relationship. He joked that we’d get along great, and I responded by saying “Don’t you think you’re a little too old for me?” And he said, jokingly, “Oh, man. Dont say that. You’re very mature.” That’s when I said that I wouldn’t date someone my age if I were his age.

Update: I was only scheduled on Friday this week but ended up working today too. I texted my manager saying that I have something very important to tell her about a parent and that I'm afraid my safety could be compromised. She asked me to come to her office before work to talk about it.
I was very scared because reading the comments made me realize that I could lose my job because I gave him my number. But I still told her everything (looking back, I missed a few things, but I told her the most important things). I told her about how, in the beginning (when I was assigned to his 2-year-old daughter's group), he was very friendly and nice to me, but it escalated when I started caring for Emmy. I told her about the grocery incident, the gas station incident, and seeing him near my neighborhood.
She kind of "defended" him by saying that I live near downtown, so it’s not a miracle to run into someone there. I then brought up the fact that, yes, I understand that, but he’s told me that he enjoys staying in his neighborhood and that I live so far away, and he doesn’t understand how I'm able to work at a job so far away, so it was weird to see him so much. I think it made her understand more. I told her about the comments about my appearance. I asked her if it was possible to get assigned to another group, and she said yes.
I told her about me giving him my number after feeling pressured, and she said that I shouldn’t have done that, that it’s very dangerous to give out personal information like that. She also said that, especially with my job, all communication must be through the app. She said that she was a little more upset at the dad because he’s been attending that daycare for almost four years, and he knows that parents are not allowed to do that.
I then told her about how he makes Emmy play with her friends when it’s time to go just to talk to me longer. She said that since I won’t be assigned to Emmy’s group, I won’t even have to talk to him at all. She said that she’ll take care of it and let the other girls know to keep an eye on him.
I told her about the Facetimes and how he told Emmy that I was mean for not answering one time and how he made her cry. She only said that that was out of line. I asked if it was possible to “ban” him from attending, and she said maybe. She doesn’t have any solid proof (I showed her some text messages, but she said that he was being friendly in the messages and that there was nothing sexual). She said that most of this was basically hearsay, and she doesn’t have concrete proof of him being an actual predator.
As for Emmy, we played together on the playground as usual. I think the hardest part for me is to slowly distance myself from her. I did, however, encourage her to play with her friends, but she would always come back every five minutes to ask to play with me. When her dad arrived, he greeted me and asked me about Emmy’s day and her keychain. I said that I did not take care of her today and pointed to the girl that did. I then got up to get Emmy to tell her to leave. He tried to stop me, but I just kept walking. I didn’t really give him time to talk to me. When I got Emmy, I gave her a hug, then stayed on the other side of the playground, and they left. I know it’s not much, but at least I avoided an interaction with him today.

Hi, I saw some comments asking for an update, so I wanted to share what happened because I am too ashamed to tell someone in real life. I had work from yesterday 8 AM to 5 PM, then went straight to the gym to work out with a friend. I got there around 6 PM and worked out until about 8:30 PM. I was walking home (I live about 10 minutes away from my gym) when I heard someone behind me. Looking back, I know I shouldn’t have walked home, but I didn’t think about it in the moment. I had music in my ears, so I didn’t know if someone was talking to me or on the phone, so I just kept walking. I felt the person getting closer and immediately thought, “Oh my God, what if it’s him?” I started walking a little faster.
After about 2 minutes, the person tapped me on the shoulder. When I turned around, it was him. My heart dropped. I immediately froze. I had practiced what to say if I ever got into this situation, but of course I had to forget everything. He acted like we ran into each other and said, “Hey, it’s nice seeing you.” I said, “Hi, nice seeing you, but I have to go.” He complimented my hair (I recently dyed it) and said it looked good on me. I said a quick thank you and tried to leave. He then grabbed my wrist and said, “I don’t like when you act like that.” I just froze up; I couldn’t move. He asked why I don’t take care of Emmy anymore. He said that she constantly asks about me at home and that I make her cry. I stuttered and said I didn’t know, that I’m not the one who decides. I said I have to go now, sorry. He then asked if I blocked him. I said I really can’t talk right now.
He then blurted out that he saw me working out. He was doing all of this while grabbing my wrist, mind you. I didn’t know what to say, so I repeated that I had to go. He started looking at me up and down in a disgusting way. He was staring at my boobs while smiling. He then started caressing my arms. One arm stopped at my waist, and the other one kept caressing my arm. He would sometimes move it to my chest and touch me there. I don’t know why I didn’t just punch him in the face. I just could. not. move. Before you ask, I wasn’t wearing anything revealing. I had on a hoodie and sweatpants. I even removed my belly piercing because I don’t like this type of attention.
I eventually quietly said, “Can you please stop?” He looked at me, smiled, and then left. I’ve been getting sexually assaulted by men since the age of 7. I promised myself after getting sexually assaulted at 18 by a friend that I would never let it happen again. Now this. I don’t know why this keeps happening. Most of the time, I feel like my body isn’t even mine, just for someone else to use whenever they feel like it, no matter if I want it or not. Maybe it was my fault because I shouldn’t have walked home knowing I had a “stalker”. Maybe it’s my fault because I didn’t tell him to leave me alone earlier. Maybe it’s my fault because I am 20 years old and I can’t fucking say no. I know he didn’t full-on grab my tits and squeeze them, but I feel so so violated. I am too ashamed to reveal this to anyone. I told my boss I was sick to avoid going to work for a couple of days.
I went to the police station, but they said there wasn’t anything they could do legally because he didn’t commit actual crimes and that I didn’t really have any proof. I just feel like they didn’t take me seriously. They gave me tips to be more careful like don’t walk late at night, change your number, don’t have the same routine, etc., but that’s it. They won’t give me a restraining order. I’ll be honest, I didn’t understand half of the terminology they were using. But from what I understood, we’re both adults so the texting and Facetimes aren’t incriminating enough. I guess I’ll just stay home. I feel so dirty. I thought I had everything under control because I found a way to avoid him at work, but I guess I was wrong. I genuinely thought that I found a way to make everything stop.
The worst part is I saw some comments saying that this whole situation could escalate if he finds out that I’m avoiding him and I didn’t believe them. Again, I was wrong. I don’t know if I’m looking for advice or sympathy, but I don’t have anyone in my life who could help. Maybe some friends, but I am just so ashamed and embarrassed to say that a man was “groping” me and I basically let it happen because I was scared. It’s just humiliating. As for my family, knowing my mom, she would most likely slut-shame me and say it’s my fault. But yeah, here’s the update I guess. I don’t know if I’ll update after this, mainly because I don’t know what else to do.

Yesterday, I had my graduation ceremony. After years of university with absolutely no help besides occasional rides to the bus stop and, very rarely, to campus, I finally graduated. Here's what my parents have done in the lead-up to graduation and the day after instead of supporting me.
My parents spent months leading up to the graduation freaking out about how I'll get a job, trying to control my hair and clothing (even implying I'm ugly when I choose my own hair and clothing), harassing me to hand out business cards to everyone I meet (especially if the situation would be an immense faux pas), grilling me on if my grades are good, lecturing me relentlessly about how I need to keep in contact with people in my class and it's soooo important and would I like to hear about how my dad got a job through nepotism for the eightieth time, asking me questions they already know the answers to (Yes, I'm still talking to my former classmates. Yes, I know that you worked in the Yukon when you were 18. Yes, I know about your friend who worked in a weather station. Yes, I know you had to move to find a job in the 1980s. Yes, I am aware that it is a possibility I might have to move too. Yes, I know that it's okay to invite people over to the house, you've only "informed" me about a hundred times. Yes, I know that school is important.) Every single thing that they "inform" me about is something I have very clearly expressed that I understand, and is just thinly veiled criticism. But my dad needs to lecture more than he needs oxygen.
Just constant nitpicking, criticism, and nothing I ever did was enough. I couldn't even focus on grades, because they would in their own words "put pressure on" me to do what they wanted. To handle their emotions for them. They're obsessed with the idea that I would have to move to a tiny town or work in a coal mine to find a job, because I'm more highly educated than my dad (who dropped out of university despite having all expenses paid by his father), and because my dad worked in the Yukon for two summers. He will never shut up about that, and he even goes so far as to hold us hostage with implicit threat of a massive tantrum to listen to him tell us the story again and again and again and to show us pictures of the place he worked on Google maps and point to everything he remembers. Sometimes he can go on for half an hour just repeating himself over and over.
Last summer, my parents even went and took action without my knowledge or approval to try and get a job set up for me cleaning up a mine contaminated with arsenic in the middle of nowhere, NWT. They tried to guilt and shame me into it ("What are your plans instead? Do you have another job lined up? Because you need to have a job. You can't sit around all day." This coming almost literally one week into summer vacation after my second-last year of university, when I could be using my energy to find interesting co-ops or explore hobbies or travel, instead dealing with their harassment and obsession with trying to literally trap me in a fucking arsenic mine.) They went on and on, lectured me over and over, implied that I would be embarrassing my grandfather if I didn't go, and so on. Eventually they said "You can go work or get a certification", and I picked the certification, but then they got grumpy anyways, and every week for the entire summer they would ask "Are you still working on the certification?". Of course, dipsh*t. I've told you fifty times how long the program lasts.
They don't care about what I'm learning in class, don't care about my hobbies or interests, only care about my friends as either a means to get backdoored into a job or a "nice French Canadian woman" to have babies with. They don't care if I'm struggling, and are completely unavailable to help in any regard. Any request for help would result in a guilt trip. Even if I actually couldn't eat dinner with the family for one day because I had a test, my father would get raw emotions and I'd have to walk on eggshells for a few days. The one time I mentioned I was having trouble studying, instead of shutting up and no longer ranting in the main floor where I could hear him or turning the TV off, he just dragged a table into the unfurnished boiler room (without asking me) and then told me that I would have to study there. I wasn't allowed to choose not to, because he'd already set it up. Ironically, my anger at him did let me study pretty well for the one day that I was forced there. He tried to keep me there long-term because he thought it was just such a great idea, but I managed to trick him into thinking I didn't need help studying anymore, so I got to study at a desk with a light on it and flooring that wasn't bare cement. Hooray for the most minor victory imaginable.
In the months leading up to graduation, did they care about how hard I was working at my capstone project and offer support? Absolutely not! Did they care about how well my sleep quality was, how many times the cat woke me up because they didn't play with her enough or give her enough attention? Nope! Did they care about how exhausting it was to deal with their constant lectures on the same topics, and to have to give them affirmations ("Yes, you're right, that's right, good job, nice, very tasty, good work, oh really?, neat, that's cool, how'd you make that?, mhm, I agree, you're being reasonable, they're being ridiculous, that's crazy") a hundred times a day? Not even in the slightest!
We spend more time talking about my dad's college friends than about anything I or my brother care about.
Then, leading up to graduation. all I've gotten are the most humiliating, infuriating, insulting messages and lectures from my parents. I get almost daily emails and texts saying "You need to get a job, it's important to look for a job" despite the fact I've told them I am looking probably fifty times. Too cowardly to say it to my face. I've been texted literal links to a Google search for "[degree name] jobs [city]" more than once. Both my parents treat me like I don't listen, when I do. They treat me like I'm lazy, when I've put myself through university with no help even after they lied to me about giving me financial aid and made me out to be a bully demanding more money when all I did was say "alright" and then pay for it myself. They must have sternly given me a talking to about how "I'm not going to pay for university, you know that, right? You need to pay. Don't expect us to pay. Because we paid for your first semesters, you know that, right? We've already paid for enough." thirty times, even after I'd made the final payment. They treat me like I'm stupid when I have expressed understanding before. They treat me like I'm a bully while I always bend over backwards for them, just because I don't play my role as "surrogate mommy but this time I get to tell her what to do" well enough.
It feels like they're almost raising me into a replacement or surrogate parent. Like my dad wants me to be his mom or dad, except this time he gets to be in charge. And my mom wants me to be her mom, except this time when she freaks out or has her deer in headlights look, she'll get someone to step up and take care of everything for her. I distinctly remember having to comfort her even for things she did to me, like tell me that a pair of comfortable shoes I picked out was good and she'd get them, and then immediately scream "take it out, take it out!" after it was scanned at the register. I could not have been older than twelve. And for my dad, he always rants and raves to me exactly like he does to his parents, except without including blame for them sending him to boarding school and instead having tons of old "life updates" like where he worked when he was 18 and what music he liked to listen to in high school, stuff like that. Then he expects me to praise him or be interested like his parents never were (he always tells me that his parents only cared about his car when they called).
So now I graduated. All they had to say in the days coming up to it was to grill me on the time I'd have to be at the venue and the time I was planning to leave the house to get there on time, with a distinct air of "you're too lazy to think of this in advance and too stupid to figure it out without a plan". Of course, I had to answer this question probably five times, because they don't care to ever listen to me. Before the ceremony I got text messages showing they were way more excited about themselves being here than anything relating to me, with multiple messages expressing how they arrived and it was exciting, then they asked me how the atmosphere was and their only reply was a one-word "nice" with no punctuation, because they don't care about me and only ask droll questions to segue into their next bit.
After grad, there was two generic sentences spoken with no emotion about how it was nice I graduated, and then they made a whole song and dance about the amazing gifts they got me. It was a degree frame I picked out myself that my dad presented as new and exciting (because he never pays attention to me, of course, when I told him I had picked one out and ordered it with my mother. Also she had another freakout about price and acted like I was holding her hostage by taking her unforced offer to buy me the second-cheapest degree frame on offer.). Then he presented the free gift small frame they got with it as though I should praise him for it, then a congratulation card that was alright I suppose if only because my brother drew a little creature in it that made me smile (my parents did not add anything special or meaningful to it). There was also a cap, which I genuinely enjoy and is nice, and a cheap ballpoint pen for some reason. He said there was more gifts at home, which okay, I don't care about gifts but I'd like him to at least be as excited for my graduation as he was for the picture frame. I didn't get any souvenirs from the bookstore because I knew if I got something he'd also gotten he'd freak out and accuse me of not listening to him or whatever, so I waited. When I got home my gift was Skittles. I don't know why I thought me might have gone to the bookstore and gotten me something special related to my actual interests. He doesn't care to know what those are anyways. I guess I hoped that at least this one day would be different.
Today, the day after graduation, all I've gotten from my parents is:
- Involved in a lecture and manufactured drama about my brother not using my car to drive to his job, even though my dad had the exact opposite position the entire rest of the year, because "what if you need to drive somewhere?", trying to manufacture a fight between my brother and me while also guilting and shaming me for not driving as a hobby like he does.
- A text message from my mother asking me if I'm awake because she wants more ammo to paint me as lazy. Nevermind that I barely slept the night before to make it to grad (of course neither of my parents would care enough about me to come with me as a family. I was literally the only person I saw who went on my own and without their family showing up early too, to support them. I walked past so many families in the parking lot knowing my mother couldn't be bothered to change out of her pajamas for me.) Nevermind I had a huge day that day, and that I was taking care of the cat's energy all that night too because attending my grad is apparently soooo draining my parents can't look after their own pet, and somehow it falls to me. All that matters is she woke up early and I didn't (after I handled all her inconveniences for her, funny how that works).
- Rapid knocks on my door because my dad is making bread as a hobby and apparently "needs" me there to help him with it, and then also "needed" me to stay and make cookies with him.
- A lecture about someone I never knew who apparently once threw something at another kid on my street when I was about 5, and about how he died and how his wife's hobby was really expensive or whatever and if I really don't remember him?
- I went to a showhome for fun and brought back the brochure. My dad jabbed his finger at the pictures on it to explain the house to me like I wasn't the one who literally brought the brochure back. Never asked if I cared or anything, just immediate launch into lecture and expecting me to stay and listen and praise him for being so smart or whatever.
- A lecture about D Day for some fucking reason. My dad is obsessed with history, and he doesn't have any friends to talk to (wonder why) so his lectures always fall on my ears.
- An email from my mother explaining in an extremely condescending way how important it is to have a cover letter when applying for jobs (just completely assuming I don't write them and also am too lazy or stupid to think about having them) including copy-pasted text from a sample cover letter that is no doubt one of the first results on google for "cover letter example"
- An angry email from my mother including a job she found on google
But, contrast that to my neighbors across the street. I was friends them in grade school, haven't seen them in like ten years, and just on my way past to the showhome we said hi and chatted in a genuinely nice conversation that wasn't a one-sided lecture like usual in my house. They could sense my emotions and didn't try to keep me there longer than I wanted to rant, they were genuinely interested in me and gave me space and interest to express myself, their mother even hugged me for graduating and it was the most genuine hug and congratulations I've ever received in person. Every other hug was my family members forcing me to hug them for their own sole benefit. I admit I cried a bit later on my walk thinking about it.
Compared to my parents, the parents of old friends care more about me, trust me more, believe in me more, have more hope for my future, are more interested in me, and understand me better. It's tremendously sad that all throughout my graduation ceremony I was worried about my parents becoming upset for some random reason and blowing up at me. I'm glad I at least focused and made myself feel some pride and joy in myself for graduating.
Even the random people I met who were also taking part in the open house were nicer and better conversationalists than my parents. A random elderly couple I have never seen in my life can have a better interaction with me than my own parents. The realtor was more chill and less perfectionistic than my parents by a mile. His million-dollar house sale was something he was less stressed and perfectionistic about and something he beat himself up over less than my parents are about my hairstyle when I'm going to class because "What if you meet someone in industry and they see you're not professional".
It's absurd.

2024.06.01 22:37 Woopadoopy45 Returning to high school at 20?

I don’t know what to do honestly I’m located in South Dakota and I previously attended an alternative school. I was in regular schooling but due to my depression and the sudden passing of my father during my freshman year my grades and attendance dropped significantly so I was enrolled into the alternative high school. The alternative school mainly utilized online programs to teach its students. I don’t remember how many credits I had exactly but I do remember I had finished my credits for mathematics and maybe some other subjects and I only needed a few other credits in order to graduate. I have moved since I attended the alternative school and now live ~300 miles away but I’m still located in the same state. I was thinking since the school mainly utilized online schooling programs I could contact them and express that I want to finish schooling, but I have no idea how that would go and if they would be willing to allow me to finish my remaining credits solely online and 300 miles away. I want to obtain my high school diploma I’m very determined to do so and Im angry at myself that I didn’t just finish it while I was still in school. I’m a little ashamed and embarrassed about reaching out to my previous alternative school too because I feel like I was kind of an annoying student to deal with for the principal not because I was getting into trouble but just because I wouldn’t do my work. I struggle with finding employment obviously and the jobs that are willing to hire me are very low paying and are very physically demanding, I’m currently working at one of these jobs and it is very difficult for me as I have joint problems where both of my knee caps will occasionally dislocate and I’m in constant pain due to this and other health conditions, I have severe insomnia due to not being able to sleep from the pain, no otc pain medicines have helped me. And I also don’t have health insurance so I can’t speak with a doctor about this. I’ve looked into getting a ged and I felt it was unnecessary to be paying to take the math test and other subjects if I already completely that course work at the alternative school I attended, also money is tight and I’ve looked into online and in person adult education programs and can’t find any for my state, and there are no in person programs in my area as it’s very rural, I’ve looked up online adult education programs and they all seem like scams. I don’t know what to do and I feel like I can’t do anything. I’m in so much pain all the time I just want to have my diploma so I can work a better job. Also the nearest ged testing center in my area is over an hour drive away, and I’m not sure if I’m required to take classes before taking the tests but I can’t afford to take regular and or frequent trips to this location and my work hours don’t permit me to do so.

2024.06.01 15:36 bri_ns Grieving Career Death?

I’m not even sure what to write here, but I’m struggling to cope with some open emotional-cognitive-intellectual wounds, and I won’t be getting any kind of external-driven closure. I left my job in early May. It was an obviously poor fit from the beginning (Feb 2022): the unit had a lot of turnover, administrative disorganization, lack of processes for routine tasks, a lack of transparency and communication that would allow teams to function well, and intense competition within and between units for resources or positions that led to some backstabbing, lying, and undermining. In the end, I felt isolated, belittled, and confused about my role in the org when I quit.
When this mismatch occurs elsewhere in the larger organization, severance packages are offered. Because my skillset was so valuable, I was not offered severance and they asked me to stay though none of the conditions of my employment would change. I had asked multiple times for the conditions to change, but the response was that I was naive and unskilled for even asking. Im definitely not good at office politics, but I get by on being friendly, smart, funny, and possibilities-oriented.
When the work stress boiled over to my marriage and crying in my PCP doctor’s office, I felt bigger changes were needed. I’m coming to terms with feeling dehumanized when I consider they only cared about what I can produce in a dysfunctional environment and wouldn’t recognize the credibility of my experience because I’m not… old enough? I’d like to believe this is just one unit, but I think colleges and universities are only beginning to grappled with their internal and external issues.
I’ve been doing KAP and ART therapy to cope with what happened, but my therapist suggested i might be grieving since I hold so many regrets, but Im struggling to figure out what I’m grieving. I didn’t initially intend to go into my field (postsecondary education), but it was there for me when I graduated with a undergrad Writing degree in 2009 (during the Recession), and my (2013) master’s degree is in higher, adult, and lifelong education. I have loved teaching and supporting students. Idk if it’s some kind of “career death”— is that a thing?
I’m planning to change career fields, idk what I’m grieving. My body hurts and my PCP has run all the tests with no abnormal results. My nurse practitioner nudges me to have my hormones checked, but my thyroid and hormone levels are in normal range as of Dec 2023. I have had some irregular periods and cramping.
Maybe this is just average life right now, and I am not successfully coping or making much of it. My husband’s job is great, and I have some time to work things out. I am incredibly grateful for this and want to do things that make his days less stressful, like running errands and cooking. It’s been refreshing to see him be supported and championed at his work after he left the same org but different job function and unit in 2021.
I have some hope still that my career isn’t completely over and I have something valuable yet to offer in a different setting. I don’t mind doing training/certifications but will not reinvest in formal degrees and did not like being a student again when I tried going back in Sept 2023 (and left 4-weeks into the semester). I went to a professional conference in Dec 2023 and felt little connection to former colleagues who seemed legitimately happy with their choice in industry and career, but I felt no connection to their optimism, and my prior faculty and advisor didn’t remember me (it’s a small field). It felt and feels… fake.
My bestie from grad school was written off by our faculty for not being… something… enough; she is now likely to buy the business she started working for after graduation. Successful, happy. Idk… I just can’t seem to convince myself to stay in this industry, even though my skills are valuable, I don’t feel like I belong. There’s a lack of closure here. It’s sick, but I wish I had been fired or rejected from the get go.
What might I consider during this transition?
