Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.

2024.05.19 19:02 OneKe High-Entropy Life Forms

I've been exploring a concept of life that contrasts starkly with our Earthly experience. On Earth, life consists of organized, low-entropy beings (like humans, animals, and plants) that rely on high-entropy chemical reactions (such as metabolism) to survive in a chaotic, high-entropy environment.
Now, imagine the opposite: high-entropy beings living in low-entropy environments. Picture these beings as ever-changing blobs of inconsistent mass, thriving in stable, structured environments like the core of a star or the orderly arrangement of crystals.

Key Points

  1. Appearance:
    • High-Entropy Beings: These beings would look like amorphous, ever-shifting masses, constantly changing shape and structure. They lack the consistent, organized form of Earthly life.
    • Comparison: Think of them like clouds of gas or plasma, but with a form of consciousness and ability to interact with their environment.
  2. Energy Source:
    • High-Entropy Beings: They would draw energy from low-entropy reactions. For example, they might harness the orderly fusion reactions in a star’s core or the precise vibrational energy within a crystal lattice.
    • Comparison: On Earth, it's like a plant using the sun’s energy in photosynthesis but inverted; these beings use the highly structured, low-entropy reactions around them to sustain their chaotic form.
  3. Persistence and Reproduction:
    • High-Entropy Beings: These beings might persist by stabilizing transient low-entropy structures within their chaotic mass, allowing them to maintain a sort of equilibrium. They could reproduce by budding off portions of their mass that develop into new entities.
    • Comparison: Imagine a cloud that can generate smaller clouds from its mass, similar to how some simple organisms on Earth reproduce through budding or fission.

Real-World Analogy

Example Scenario

Imagine a star's core, a low-entropy environment with highly structured nuclear fusion reactions. A high-entropy being within this core might look like a swirling, ever-changing blob of plasma. It uses the precise energy from fusion reactions to stabilize parts of its chaotic structure, allowing it to persist and function. When it needs to reproduce, a section of the blob detaches, and through exposure to the same structured environment, it grows into a new high-entropy being.
What do you think of the idea of high-entropy life forms thriving in low-entropy environments? Could such beings exist in our universe, perhaps in places we haven’t considered? I'm curious about your perspectives and welcome any feedback or criticism.

2024.05.19 19:01 YungGunna4L Effects of Trauma

Can trauma caused by emotional abuse from your parents while you grow up cause symptoms of autism/adhd? When I was a little kid in elementary school I was extremely high functioning, both socially and academically. I had a lot of friends, talked to my teachers a lot, and was generally well-liked. I was also top of my class academically. As I grew up my parents went through an ugly divorce and my mom, brother and I had to move. My mom became depressed and took out her angebitterness on me, and I developed emotional trauma from everything that happened. I've also developed depression, anxiety, and I suspect some kind of ptsd/cptsd but I haven't been diagnosed with either yet. Now I'm a senior in high school going to college soon and I'm a mess socially. I don't talk a lot, both out of social anxiety and just never having anything to say, and when I do I can tell nobody wants to talk to me. They always try to get out of the conversation as soon as possible, even if we're at work and we both have to be standing around each other anyway. I get a lot of weird looks that I don't remember getting before the last few years, and people at work even joke around with each other right in front of me about not wanting to talk to me. It's just so different from how things used to be for me, and I'm wondering if it's possible that my emotional trauma or other mental illnesses have caused me to get neurodivergence symptoms that influence my social/mental ability and the way people see me?

2024.05.19 19:00 Flying_Snails_Today2 Holy Grail War: Echo Of A Long Life

Homunculi are made from sperm and other elements without the use of a womb. As such they start out with mature bodies. They start with basic knowledge as well as reasoning in order to serve basic functions in life. Due to all this, they were all effectively immortal and could never age.
A Homunculus has been created very recently. 3 weeks before the seventh servant has been summoned.
Scientist: We have done it! This one! His mana is through the roof! He should be able to win the only grail war no issue!
The homunculus looked at his own hand in disappointment. His name was… Soule.
Soule: I exist to be trusted into a war? Just to give these freaks the powers they wish?
The ones who brought Soule into this world were a group known as “Command” They’ve been trying to enter the holy grail war whenever it happens and win to gain the famous holy grail itself. Yet they either couldn't enter or had their master representative killed.
Soule was created to be a perfect endless pool of mana that would make sure they win. 7 hours after Soul’s complete birth he killed everyone in the lab he was born into.
Soule would find himself in a city. He just walked and walked the uncaring people who passed him but without a second thought, the animals that would shit and piss along what should be a nice concrete sidewalk, and the children who cried at the smallest inconvenience. It all was so foul. Soule hated life already.
7 days before the summoning of the servant servant Soule stood alone in a house filled with the bodies of a crushed 3 person family.
Soule: I summon you, servant. I need you now to follow his goals! YOU WILL SERVER UNDER ME FOR THIS WAR YOU UNDERSTAND?! NOW APPEAR!
And like a call in the great unknown, the unknown answered back with a bright light that went away revealing a talk demonic looking man.
???: I have been summoned… I am Ivan The Terrible your Rider class servant. Do not test me just because you're my master or-
Soule: Or what? You'll kill me? I think you and I both know that you don't want that to happen!
Rider: You dare disrespect me! I shall crush your face in if you keep disrespecting me!
Soule: Wow such a terrible liar! Listen here, you disgusting bastard! My one and only goal is the downfall of all life!
Rider: Then why even bother with this war?
Soule: It's simply a means to an end! I want to know my limits before I kill all on this planet. Is that so hard to understand?
Rider: Very well then. I have few objections to your foolish goal so long as I can have the grail in the end!
Soule: Hey I don't really care! I want to kill all life more personally than wishing them away anyway!
Rider: I can only imagine what spurs such hate in a heart.

Leo: OK time for me to go to school!
Ky: Leo you can't!
Leo: And why not?
Saber: Leo I can not demanifest, unlike other servants due to your low mana. I can't protect and watch over you in school. So you may be attacked by a master while I'm away.
Ky: Plus School isn't that important anyways.
Leo groaned as he did want to go to school to meet up with his friends. He felt as if this stupid war had concerned every aspect of his life.
Saber: I apologize for this inconvenience master…
Leo: That's it!
Ky: Huh?
Leo: Saber! We just gotta get you enrolled at my school!
Saber: Are you sure about this master…?
Ky: And he's lost it…
Leo: Yeah! You don't look any older than me!
Saber: I highly doubt it will be that easy-

Leo’s school at first period. It was that easy.
Saber and Leo sat directly next to one another. Saber not really wanting to be here in this school as a student even if it was to protect Leo.

Standing on top of the school were Soule and Rider. Soule smiled as he placed his hand in a strange sign.
Soule: Ready?
Rider: Yes.
Soule: Summon!
A black Vail appeared around the school almost like a curtain and several skeletons spawned inside the school with various bladed weapons. And then a wyvern spawned appeared behind Soule.
Rider: A wyvern!? That shouldn't be possible! Especially by today's standards!
Soule: My my… I'm just full of surprises!

Meanwhile, Saber and Leo were in the school, and people began passing out. Leo and Saber both got worried and Leo was the first to see the semi-translucent dark veil around the school.
Saber: A Vail! Damn it! A mage must be behind this!
Leo: A mage?!
Saber: A mage is most likely currently awake, unlike the rest of the school! Come on we must hurry!
Leo: Alright! Saber!
She transformed into her armor and held her misty blade tight. The two run off into the way to long and large school hallways. They soon spot a few skeletons trying to attack unconscious students and staff so Saber cuts a few down and Leo destroys the rest with a few punches.
Leo: The heck were those?!
Saber: Seemingly some kind of monsters summoned by whoever has done this master!
Leo: OK then! I think we should try the-
Just then to cut the young boy off Soule and Rider crash through the ceiling. The rubble crushed some of the staff and students to death.
Soule: We found Saber and her master now Rider!
Rider: Killing you will be worth it…
Saber: Master stay back!
Leo: No way I can't leave you to fight alone I'm helping!
Soule: Look at the worthless feelings they share. I suppose the rift raft being as sorry as it is would all group up and care for one another! Rider kill Saber!
Rider charged forward his staff slamming Saber through a few walls into the science room. The demonic servant charged forward with great strength but before Leo could help his servant he received a major kick to the face from Soule.
Soule: Oh no you don't!
Soule then eagerly kicked Leo to the ground and tried to stomp his skull in but the young teen managed to roll out the way.
Soule: Are you done with your silly caring shit? If so fight me! Cuz if you don’t~
Soule’s Wyvern busted through the school’s entrance and into where Soule and Leo were currently.
Soule: You'll die!
Leo: A dragon?!
The Wyvern bit down at Leo who held its jaws open for a moment before Soule appeared behind him transforming the wyvern into a sword that flew straight into his hands to stab Leo in the side of his chest.
Leo: Ow fuck fuck fuck!
Soule would then kick him in the leg before grabbing him by the hair and throwing him into the ceiling above or what was left of it.
Leo was spurring our blood trying to get a moment to grab ahold of his bearings something that Soule shocking would allow.
Soule: See what I mean?~

We cut to Saber and Rider fighting. Rider shoots out several electrical bolts from his staff as fast as lighting Saber easily manages to dodge.
Saber: A nice try Ruder but you'll need to try harder than that!
In all honesty, Saber was worried for her master. The master alongside Rider seemed entirely different from anything she felt before.
Rider: You fight well Saber I can give you that!
Rider would run up and give a surprise uppercut! She spat out a small bit of blood before two lighting shots appeared from his staff blasting Saber into some equipment she threw at Rider on impulse. The equipment didn't hurt him yet it turned into smoke creating a smoke screen for Saber to roll behind Rider and stab him through and back. Yet Rider filled his entire body with electricity that flew through Saber’s sword and shocked the blonde woman herself before an elbow knocked her to the ground.
Saber: Ugh…

We see Leo standing up as Soule walks through his blood on the floor.
Soule: You see brat? You're gonna die. Not like it matters though! After all, life doesn't have a meaning!
He tried to cut off Leo’s head but he ducked under and punched him in the gut making Soule stumble back. Soule tried to kick Leo but he grabbed his leg and twisted it making him fall over onto his face before Leo slammed him into a nearby wall!
Leo then began smashing around the skilled mage all over the place faster and faster! Stronger and stronger! Until Soule cut off his own leg! To hop away from Soule using his one remaining leg while his old one regenerated!
Soule: Rider!
Rider hears his master's calls so he runs toward him at top speed before scooping him up.
Rider: Fine then Soule we leave! Next time Saber! You're dead!
Soule: Until next time we curse each other! You brat!
Soule opened a portal that Rider jumped through and it immediately closed behind him. Saber stumbled out of the science room and over to her master.
Saber: Leo are you alright?
Leo: No…

2024.05.19 18:57 Lonely-Trick5614 Opinion on Crisis Core Aerith?

Hey everyone! I’ve seen a lot of differing opinions on how Aerith is written in Crisis Core vs the Re:Trilogy (also vs the OG). I’ve seen people say that Aerith’s character was the worst in CC, I’ve seen others say it’s the best… I’ve seen people say that the Re:Trilogy writes Aerith badly because it makes Aerith out to be one that gets between Cloud and Zack and was written to pit them against each other (even though Zack is dead??) I was curious on what people here thought about it, if you like one better than the other, or if you like both and don’t have a problem??? personally I always thought that CC Aerith was a young Aerith that hadn’t fully grown into herself yet, and what her and Zack had was fleeting young love and wasn’t that serious, but I do think it was kind of cheap of them to try to copy clerith moments from OG just to make CC and zerith more appealing

2024.05.19 18:57 Emergency_Peach_4307 I'm multiple people

Not really in a DID sense, although I guess it could be seen as that and hell maybe it is that. It's very hard to explain but I'll try my best and frankly I just want to get this out.
My body and brain disconnect sometimes to where they become two completely different beings. My body is more focused on survival and functionality. It doesn't really think but it is capable of feeling, typically anxiety. My brain can further be disconnected into the hemispheres, but they're harder to tell apart. Frankly, I don't know who I am or which one I am.
Sometimes the difference is obvious, I can typically tell when my body and mind are disconnected. Although it's harder to tell when my hemispheres disconnect, probably because my conscious turns into a tug of war between 2 people and I don't know which voice is me.
I know what this isn't a psychotic episode because I haven't put names to these people. They're still me in a sense, just a fragment of me that is so far gone it has become its own person. If this is a psychotic episode then I would be horrified, but as of right now I don't think that's the case.

2024.05.19 18:53 johnnybiggles In a similar manner to an amicus brief (where people not party to a legal matter can offer information, expertise and insight), with high-profile, very public cases, do legal teams ever/often/never assign staff to follow media centers to get advice or ideas?

There have historically been a number of very high-profile court cases (criminal and civil) that have been publicized in one way or another, before - and either during the case or after.
In this 24/7 media culture we have now, a ton of legal scholars - former prosecutors, former DAs, former judges, current lawyers, etc. ("pundits") - many of whom themselves worked on very high-profile cases since they are well-credentialed and were selected or were in positions to oversee those cases - tend to flood the airwaves, offering tons of insight to what's going on.
What I've found from watching is that most tend to generally agree with each other on the core facets, flows and facts, while offering different, valid points others might have missed, weren't aware of, or just didn't comment on. Each has a unique perspective, after all.
Some actually do disagree, however, and explain why, often having, themselves, solid and enlightening reasoning the others might then concur with, or not. It's a wealth of information for better or for worse, but usually for better since the whole point is to educate the public on legalese and helping them to follow along.
Some others, however - like many authoritative figures, love to hear their own voice and speak in "matter-of-fact" tone, presuming they are the sole voice of reason; everyone else doesn't understand, "you don't know what you're talking about", etc., etc. Some are dead wrong - many know it and/or are lawyers or advisors trying to tow a line or promote a narrative, and are often put there by producers intentionally... usually you can sniff them out. But most I find to be geniune, even when they are wrong - the most sensible utilizing careful "lawyerly" hedging of their thoughts against their own knowledge, disclaiming assertions.
That all said, as mentioned, it seems to be a wealth of information that could be useful to parties of ongoing court cases, which they could assign a clerk or some staff to sort through, just as an outside check (while they continue their work as normal).
Things often look different from within, but it's good to have some introspection using a sensible outside vantage point, and leverage the "free" legal counsel, if for no other reason than to ensure they haven't missed anything and are on track (I know from experience that being submersed in something can lead to missing "the forest for the trees" or vice versa). I don't think it's illegal for the legal teams to look outside their circle for info (publicly available, which is media), only jurors.
Do they leverage this sometimes/often/never?

2024.05.19 18:52 onnake Talleen Abu Hanna represents hope for transgender women in Israel

Talleen Abu Hanna represents hope for transgender women in Israel
“The 29-year-old is one of the protagonists in Yolande Zauberman's documentary 'La Belle de Gaza.' Presented in a special screening at Cannes before its theatrical release on May 29, the film examines the often tragic destinies of transgender women in Israel.“
“Talleen Abu Hanna preferred to flee the war, if only for 24 hours. At the end of April in Paris, far from the bloody conflict between Israel and Hamas, the 29-year-old transgender woman, wearing a blue silk top and meticulous make-up, tried to forget the dead, the risk of regional conflagration and her ‘tug of war’ over the national unity demanded by Israel, as she was born into a Palestinian Christian family from Nazareth, in northern Israel.
“After six months of military operations, Hanna seemed afraid to take a stand at a time when Israel's LGBTQ+ community was being blacklisted abroad by part of the pro-Palestinian movement, which accused it of tacitly endorsing the war being waged by the Israeli state.
“Beside her, Israela Lev, 63, a veteran fighter for LGBTQ+ rights who presents herself as both Hanna's manager and her ‘mother’ (a protective figure in queer culture), sighed with sadness when asked about the conflict: ‘Rather than take a gun in our hands to go to war, we'd rather do our nails, put on make-up, inject Botox.’ Or go to the Cannes Film Festival.
“In May, Hanna and Lev will go to the French Riviera to present the documentary La Belle de Gaza (The Belle from Gaza), directed by Yolande Zauberman (Would You Have Sex with an Arab? in 2011 and M, winner of the César for Best Documentary Film in 2020). It will be shown in a special screening on May 22, ahead of its theatrical release on May 29. Shot before the war, the film interweaves the sometimes tragic fates of a number of different transgender women in Israel, many of them sex workers gathered on the same grim Tel Aviv street.
“A young woman, the Belle in the title, is said to have fled the Gaza Strip, where she was threatened with death because of her trans identity, and went to Tel Aviv on foot. Hanna does not play this mysterious character, who appears only briefly in the documentary. But she is a central figure in the story, a symbol of success, a beacon of hope in the midst of other, darker journeys. On that day in Paris, she said little about the Israel-Gaza conflict, concentrating instead on the plight of transgender people, whom she described as being ‘at war with their bodies.’”

[Saturn 3 Ultra] Delamination in transition layers or in base of supports, thin spot in the middle of the plate
Okay hopefully someone here can help, because my searches haven't come up with much information (I'm very likely just not using the right keywords) and I'm stumped.
So, some background: I've had my Saturn 3 Ultra for a year or less and it's been a great and reliable machine. Every issue I've had with it was just me being ignorant or doing something wrong. I have no reason to believe this is any different, but I'm also genuinely not sure what's causing this. It is not my first printer, I've been printing for 3 or 4 years now, and this is the first time I've encountered this specific problem.
The problem: For the past couple months, I've had print after print be successful. Zero issues, even when changing resins and not changing settings. Over the past week or so, though, I've started getting print failures. It started as just a couple delaminations in the transition layers in the center of the plate which I thought was due to a tiny defect in the NFEP that didn't cause problems, and then progressed to two models completely failing in the transition layers a little farther away from the center (but still centralized,) and then finally half the plate failing to print. The raft would print, and some of the base for the supports would, but nothing past that.
Now that all is easy enough to find info on, but what's confusing me is that my prints are all thin toward the middle of the plate, or the middle of the print as is the case in this most recent test, but print fine around the edges. I also don't understand why it's doing it NOW when I've been using the same setup, same settings, and largely the same resin (apart from yesterday and today but it's a lower viscosity resin so it SHOULD be even better than what I was using before as far as filling in the space between layers go, and there's no change in success. Not better or worse, it's literally the same results.)

Now, some info on the setup: I have a mach 5ive protector on the screen, and sirayatech NFEP on the vat. The build plate is leveled using the dummy print method, and uses small washers to ensure the screws are tight (I was having issues getting the plate leveled; those washers with that method were a godsend.) I live in a cold environment, so I have a fermentation band around the vat that runs only while I'm printing and awake to monitor it. I keep it off when I'm running a print while I'm asleep, when the ambient temperature is hot enough to warm the space (basement,) or when there's no print going, because I would like to TRY to not kill my screen faster than necessary. Here are screenshots of the two resin profiles I've been using. I use lychee and export in .ctb:
https://preview.redd.it/izagundoxe1d1.png?width=1070&format=png&auto=webp&s=d4f3b4dfa588cb2ad078e695f633d455451307e9

What is going on? I thought it might be the FEP because of the heat band and the fact it had been in use for 2 months with heavy plate load, maybe it got too loose, but I changed it last night and it's doing the exact same thing. There are no dead spots on the screen, and the screen is flat and makes good contact with the plate, and the plate is flat as well. (any warping here is because of the paper.)

2024.05.19 18:51 ringgobbler Payseur Family

payseur family
Here are some things what may be associated with world control
My answer is central banks. When looking into the makings of central banks and financal affairs in the uk and europe i came up with this
Some interesting links to consider. Finance has been run predominantly by jewish families long before 1066 when William the conquerer borrowed significant funds in securing his throne in England from French Rouen Banking family, name still undisclosed. If anyone knows let me know.
government bonds from 1066 in the british library
The Worshipful goldsmiths company a 700 year old group of investors to this day buys up government guilds aka bonds aka loans. Aswell as owning vast estates in and around london. This was formed after the jewish were originally exiled from britian for controlling the UKs finances between 1066 and 1290 🤔 ( insert capitalism cloak and dagger) hide behind a business
a group of goldsmith lenders unnamed but prominent figures in london financing that formed the basis for the state bank of England This company became of interest to me, little is said about who founded the goldsmiths company other than goldsmiths of the time. But they controlled london finance as they were the gold standard by royal charter. Coincidence?
I wonder who these prominent people were that formed vastly wealthy corporation that controlled englands gold from then until now. 700 years ago goldsmiths were almost all jewish as in england lending money was strictly forbidden in Christianity (if you weren't Christian in england 1000 years ago what even were you?
Also note the Rothschilds family owned the building to the royal mint for the last 200 years. Strange that🤔
royal mint
Also an interesting financial scale. Jewish law states that jewish can only charge interest to non jewish. So if a huge percentage of banks are jewish owned and only charge interest to non jewish that would denote a pyramidal scale. Note the largest hedge companies are jewish owned.
halachah or jewish law
Now i am not saying this is the entire jewish race, but certainly prominent familes hidden behind a cover of a capitalist system that obscures it for what it is. If you have checked out the links above note- from jewish sources. You can start to imagin how long the banking business has been going on for. If halachah must be followed that would mean continual money supply into a pot for one race from everyone else.
Some examples of said families
rothschilds family archives
The duke of wellington recieved 1 billion in 1815 now worth over 20 trillion in todays money. This is supposedly being still repaid by british taxpayers today.
Can you imagin what interest repayments the Rothschilds must be recieving for a loan that's over 200 years old. Calculations below
Oh and guess who funded the loan to pay slave owners for freeing slaves. You guessed it the Rothschilds and Montefoire family if you haven't already come across the latter another one to consider.
Rothschilds and Montefoire
The slave ownership loan has only just been repaid by british tax payers only a few years ago. If you understand how loan repayments work from mortgages you can imagin what a 200 year old loan does to the total repayment cost.
For those unable to work it out 15 million over 200 years at 4% works out to a total repayment of 38,261,246,866.00 thats just over 38 billion. So where is all this money as their net worth vastly differs 🤔.
I believe that we are built on a system of finance, either capitalist who want a share of other nations interests or communist who want to retain the financial system for their own.
who ever owns the finance owns the world.
Im not sure who secretly runs the countrys of the world but in delving deeper into the history behind finance i found the above. Some will say this is antisemetic trope. But everything i looked up was backed up by jewish authors and resources. Jewish chronicles being one of them
Thodore Herzle is another prominent name in zionism as its founder who started the zionist movement from Basel switzerland, the mothership of all central banks the IBS International Bank of Settlements. He also founded the jewish colonial bank which later became the central bank of israel
jewish virtual library source
Its interesting that more of this is not known or more public knowledge, or is that the point keep this buried and call everyone antisemitic for brining it up?
Whilst im not from the US, its domination in war time affairs raises some questions. As war requires large bonds borrewed from the prominent families mentioned above. Creating debts that continue to be paid by tax payers. Worth researching who bought the long term bonds for the covid packages and Ukraine/ Israel piggy bank.
Nearly the entire biden administration is made up of jewish, so theres no wonder why he keeps vetoing everything. A list below of his jewish team.
biden administration jewish team list
and well the US economy has a big hand in debt making and taking. If you arent with it, your in the way as many countries have found out the hard way.
I have lots more, but conscious this is long and getting bored now.
Enjoy your rabbit hole hunting

2024.05.19 18:51 raminoruclu Setting up WebContainer API

Hi, everybody!
I want to integrate WebContainer into my web app. Since, there are not enough resources/projects out there to find answer, I thought I could ask here. Though I have found one github repo that have done what I need to do, I have some issues. In the "core/index.ts" file, there is a problem in readAsFileSystemTree() function which gives this error "Uncaught (in promise) TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'fs')". I guess this is related to webcontainerInstance variable being undefined. How can I solve this?

2024.05.19 18:46 Jellyfishtopia Week 5 update

I'm continuing to check in on my progress in case it's helpful for anyone else. I'm switching from Prozac 10mg to Lexapro 5mg after a two-day pause in between. Hoping to treat anxiety and dysthymia (chronic mild depression).
The headline of week 5 seems to be that my side effects are declining, but nothing super exciting is happening in terms of positive effects. My anxiety is probably lower overall, but until/unless the dysthymia budges as well, it's hard to feel excited about that, since mild depression plus mild fatigue minus anxiety usually results in just sitting around feeling unmotivated and gloomy.
That said, I'm on a very low dose so it might not be reasonable to expect major positive effects. I still plan to stick it out for at least 8 weeks on this dose to give it a fair shot so I don't increase unnecessarily (since this could also increase the amount of side effects I have to deal with long term and give me less runway to increase the dose down the road if it ever stops working for me).

2024.05.19 18:44 OnionIndependent4455 How do autistic people handle opinions??

I work with people who have intellectual, developmental and cognitive disabilities, the most common level they’re on is a level 2-3 and some including myself are a level 1 which means high functioning. I mean,I know they like to watch Barney the dinosaur and other baby shows which I like bluey. But the truth is I just don’t like baby shows such as Barney for example,I mean I just find it annoying and I’m not sure how they might react or feel when I express my opinion to them,I’m not actually a caretaker,a nurse, doctor nor a therapist,I just go to the day program, but I learn something from last night and today which I learn that just because I have an opinion on something I dislike doesn’t mean I’m a bad influence,I have the right to express my opinion on a certain topic or subject that I can agree or disagree with anything,no 2 opinion are identical, but instead different on a certain point. I usually kept my opinions to myself and keep my mouth shut to avoid causing drama and end up being accused of something that I have an opinion on a certain thing I don’t like.

2024.05.19 18:44 PhysicalConsistency [Model Update] Innies vs. Outies, and running with scissors

First, an unnecessarily premature and under-suppored prediction (running with scissors): One state of what we call "depression" is an "over-empathy" condition caused by cerebellar map contributions overwhelming the "central" map. I'm still working on a better description for "empathy", so for the time being lets tentatively call it a "social prediction map".
Generally, "depression" isn't a mechanical issue at all, it's working exactly as it should to modify systemic level behavior in response to socio-environmental inputs. The correct "treatment" for it is to change the inputs (it's really weird how much cleaner behavior becomes without "free will").
For individuals with intractable depression which is unresponsive to environment, there will always be a specific functional group that is "stuck" in dorsal/ventral bias that's mucking this up, and we are getting close to the point where we can image this more consistently. For example, full blown impaired salience flavors of "depression" are likely habenular weighting issues, which are crushing out the map "calcs" along the Hab->Interpeduncular->Tegemental nuclei circuits, resulting either a "blow-out" or "full suppression" condition of the ventral side. The results of this seem consistent with a lot of "mental health" symptomology, a "blow out" results in psychosis like symptoms, a "full suppression" runs the other way all the way down to types of catatonia. It also might be a little to convenient/confirmation biasish that the ponto-cerebellar pathway is so important to physical behavior extensions of salient pulses.
There are other flavors of depression (for example, any functional module with a "interal/external", "dorsal/ventral", "medial/lateral" histological differentiation can probably create it's own "type" or contribution) but the type we are most "conscious" of, the one we "feel" the most is usually that social map overexpression since those are almost pure prediction and need to be constantly compared and updated.
Okay, second part of the post - I can't help seeing our "behavioral" systems (across all nervous system types) as this core "midbrain/red nuclei" processing type initially which is relatively "simple" but still amazingly flexible. For example, most speech in humans is probably an artifact of brainstem circuits exclusively, and I'm pretty confident human children use these same circuits up until about two years old to produce speech.
Just got a jolt of self-awareness that I'm attempting to overexplain the context before getting to the point, because if you had the context the point would present itself in the data right? Slap my wrist on this one.
The point of the innies vs. outies is that nervous system behavior has been, for nearly all vertebrates been dominated by processing circuits connected directly to the central brainstem (if we are weird and consider the brainstem to be everything up to the thalamus as the cap). Some vertebrate nervous systems have developed more complex "off brainstem" processing capability. For humans specifically, this "off brainstem" development has been a crucial part of our differentiation, both among homo as a group compared to other hominids, but among homo itself. For humans, we are still "evolving" the capacity and flexibility of this "off brainstem" capability.
Tying back to the first point, most "mental health" issues might actually be better described as the teething pain of this integration between our archaic "inner" brainstem primary systems and our much higher resolution "off-brainstem" systems.
Using our "autism" model, if we imagine nearly all the symptomology as a mating issue between brainstem centric circuits and the off-brainstem circuits, IMO we get a pretty clean set of symptomatic outputs when things go "wrong". I think it might even be appropriate to genericize "autism" itself into a "inner v. outer" integration issue (either systemically, or between specific functional groupings).
It's my prediction that the "homo-technius" flavor of humans is "evolving" toward an increasingly higher integration state, one which will essentially result in most brainstem control circuits becoming almost as vestigal as the red nucleus is in humans.
Does this make sense? Please ask questions.

Do US americans just absolutely not fish for eel?

Greetings fellow fishermen
I´ve been diving deeper into eel fishing lately and i noticed that no matter what video i watch, everytime there is an american hosting it he mentions that ,,noone really fishes for eel" or that ,,They´re an odd species to target". This did confuse me a bit as in my home country in central europe eel fishing is a form of dark magic, a revered art seeing as they´re so difficult to catch (at least the big ones!) and all the ways they´re different to all other fish as well as the fact that they taste ludicrously good.
So in summary: Do US fishermen generally not target eel and if so why not?
Just a curious angler from across the pond.
Cheers!
(Recently caught by me narrow mouth eel in the photo, 60cm/23 inch from a local river)

2024.05.19 18:41 WittyEquivvalent I cannot express the importance of following the FAQ to this sub whether you have a diagnosis or not.

My PCP diagnosed me with CFS/ME last year. I have experienced debilitating, bedridden weeks. It destroyed me in so many ways.
Prior to my diagnosis they really didn't do many exhaustive tests at all. I was trusting doctors to know what tests to do to rule out symptoms and trusting my PCP's judgement when she provided me with the CFS/ME diagnosis. It also just felt like I had an answer finally with having the label because in my head it seemed to accurately describe the level of drain I felt.
But after suffering and suffering, and after it seeming to get worse even after taking several different liquid supplements and focusing hard in nutrition and not pushing myself, I decided to fight. I started looking at the resources on this sub and decided I was going to check everything off the list provided in the FAQ to have the doctor's test for.
I had to negotiate with a cardiologist to refer me to another sleep specialist after a different sleep specialist waved me away stating that so long as I wasn't falling asleep while driving this was a normal amount of fatigue for women to feel (yes really, almost word for word what he said). The cardiologist agreed to refer me to someone different, and this new sleep specialist did an in-hospital sleep test.
When that came back negative for apnea, the sleep specialist attempted to pass it off as just depression and anxiety. I pushed, stating that I have been seeing a psychologist for three years who wanted me to rule out medical issues. After some convincing he put an order in for several blood tests. TSH, TS4 [thyroid], B12, vitamin D3, basic metabolic panel, CBT, B9, etc.
These tests came back showing everything normal, except I was .01 away from being hypercalcemic and severely deficient for vitamin D3. When vitamin D3 deficiency persists, it can influence the functioning of the HPA axis, which in turn influence other functions of the body that regulate things like calcium uptake and the body's ability to hold setatonin and dopamine—and also may cause the symptom of debilitating chronic fatigue among other issues.
I'm taking 50,000 units of D3 once a week for 8 weeks in addition to what's in my multivitamin and in addition to doing light therapy. I was also prescribed Effexor XL to treat mental health side effects, since chronically high cortisol levels can also contribute to chronic fatigue.
It's too early to tell whether this will work or not. But I wanted to make this post to just hammer home to do the battery of tests and treatments whether you've been formally diagnosed or not. The medical system is a human system. I have given you the TLDR version and left out several other urgent care doctors and other specialists who simply refused to run any tests because in their opinion I was being an attention seeking patient and had "generalized anxiety disorder" in my records.
Especially if you're female and especially if you DO have an anxiety or stress disorder and live in the US, it is very likely you will have to assert yourself and push for tests. Don't let anyone gaslight you into thinking fatigue is normal or that there isn't anything more doctors can do until you know all tests have been exhausted. To be honest I'm not even sure how I ended up with a CFS/ME diagnosis with how little testing was done initially—I'm not sure that was supposed to happen or how that conclusion was made so early. Maybe it is the case, but do the tests anyways.
