2024.05.20 08:46 ViralRiver Desert tour from Marrakech - Private driver or a full on tour?

Hi everyone! My girlfriend and I are going for a last minute trip to Marrakech in the middle of June and have been in contact with some companies to plan a 3D2N trip into the desert and back. We're looking for private & luxurious, but of course don't want to spend an arm and a leg if we don't need to. Most places are quoting roughly 500 EUR for these tours to either Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga including a night at a riad along the way, and a luxury camp plus the usual camel sunset tours, sand boarding, optional extras for quad bikes etc.
Now when we look into the costs of the riads and desert camps themselves the prices are much much cheaper than this. Of course what's missing is the tour aspect, but on this front can we not just hire a private driver for the 3 days and do this? I can't find much information in this area but if we can save a few hundred euros here I'd love for this option, especially given the flexibility with camp choice etc.
Please let me know if you have any information here! And also if there's a recommendation between the ergs given the June heat.
I do have an international drivers license and love the idea of driving myself but I'm a little apprehensive in case the car breaks down or something else.. don't want to get stranded in the desert.
Thanks!

2024.05.20 07:58 Rimm9246 CIG, I love ya, but this some bullshit right here.

I've been doing some lower tier bounties, vlrts and lrts mostly, to try and get to grips with the new flight model. I was pretty discouraged at first, because it felt like my ship was so freakin' slow that I couldn't help but eat all of the enemies shots. But, after watching some guides, and getting more practice, I was starting to feel a lot better, and the new system was starting to grow on me. Tonight I saw an ERT pop and thought what the hell, I'll give it a shot and if I die, I was about to log off anyway, nbd.
The target was a redeemer, with a herc and connie as backup. Fortunatley, it felt like I was just fighting the redeemer for the most part, due to the other ships being slower. Unfortunately, that thing was so damn tanky that I didn't have a chance in hell of killing it in my little avenger titan. I put all 2000 rounds of my s4 revenant into it while hitting it with the s3 omniskys all the while. It took a little hull damage from the gatling but didn't even get the slightest dent it it's shields. I was fine because it didn't seem to be firing back with it's turrets for some reason, probably a bug or network issue. If it had I'm sure I would have been space dust by that point.
Which is totally fine - I would expect ERTs to be hard, and require you to bring a multicrew ship with some friends. What I couldn't believe is when I got back to the station, they wanted 47K aUEC to repair the slight bit of damage I took. That sounded completely crazy, I'm used to paying no more than a couple thousand. But I thought, maybe the economy has been rebalanced and the numbers are just higher now. That's when I decided to check that ERT mission, and realized that it would have paid... 25k. Twenty - five - k.
Circling back to the multicrew thing... how the HELL are we supposed to justify bringing friends along for missions, if they pay peanuts, AND expect us to split that between our crew, AND the repairs on a slightly damaged ship cost twice as much as the mission payout?! And a single seater at that, not even a multicrew ship!
AND on top of that, the prices of ships have increased across the board, so it was already going to be a much longer grind to get them. When CIG was talking about the changes they intended to make regarding mission rewards in this patch, I got the impression that they wanted to make most missions *more* worthwhile, not less. But what they have done here is just... insulting.
I WANT this to be a "grindy" game, eventually. I want to be able to spend years and years playing this game, slowly building up my wealth and reputation. But we are talking about an alpha here, one where any progress made is just going to get reset anyway. One where earning money often takes twice as long as you would expect anyway, because of bugs and issues getting in your way.
Now, I can already imagine what people more cynical than me are going to say: they don't want it to be reasonable to earn ships in game, because they want people to keep pledging for ships. I don't believe that, I don't think that they had any ill intentions behind these changes, I know they want the game to be good just as much as we do. But CIG, please, you owe everything to your backers, the least you can do is respect our time. Please listen to us on this one and make changes soon.
p.s. thanks for listening to my rant. Sorry for being dramatic, I'm just super passionate about this game (=

Item Description Price (Shipped)
TGR 910 v2 ME Midnight Green Flawless A-stock condition. Comes with a hotswap PCB and a brand new Mechlovin Zed65 PCB as well as 4 plates for experimentation (Alu, FR4, POM, & PP). Also includes a Daji stainless steel backplate (cost another $100), which adds quite a bit of heft and improves the sound of this board. It comes with everything from the kit: Kaban carrying case, stock o-ring, and original magnetic backplate. Selling for below my cost and retail, factoring in the price of the backplate and extras. I particularly love the smooth green ano on this as it pairs very well with the pictured GMK Botanical. Comes unbuilt but I currently have it built with BCP's on PP, PM for a sound test if interested. $650
Iron165 R2 Midnight Teal + SS Weight Originally A-stock, it's in flawless condition other than a few microscratches on the polished SS weight. It's built with L&F Namazu switches on the CF plate, also comes with an extra Mouser multi-layout hotswap PCB and 4 extra plates (Alu, FR4, POM, & PP). The gaskets were installed on the case. It also includes the original black alu weight/badge and an extra custom teal resin S+R badge that matches the Solarized Dark accents. The midnight teal ano is very unique and the clean wedge design of the Iron165 is timeless. The sound that comes out of this board is very clacky and bright, PM for a sound test. $415
TGR x Monokei Tomo Gray Overall excellent condition, I don't see any flaws. It comes built on a solder PCB with L&F + broken-in Kailh-stemmed MX Blacks on the alu plate. It's an absolute banger combination with the o-ring configuration, I'd be happy to provide a sound test in PM's if interested. It also comes with an extra brand new solder PCB and 2 Plates (Copper, PC). The board will be packaged in the retail box, not the Kaban. One thing to note with the current build, a couple of the keys have some chatter but it relates to the switches, not the PCB. Selling for well below retail and my cost. $395
Crin WKL Navy Flawless A-stock condition. Built with L&F + broken-in Ergo Clears on an alu plate. The stems were trimmed so they don't loosen keycaps. Will come with the original CK carrying case. The ano is deep navy with a hint of purple, which I reckon will go well with a variety of keycap sets such as the pictured GMK Dracula. It has a very classic top mount sound with the clacky but unique Cherry MX Clear sound, PM for a sound test. $295
GMK Yuru Light shine on some keys, most keys still have a good amount of texture. $185
GMK Ashes Light shine on some keys, most keys still have a good amount of texture. $145
GMK Nord Base Like new, only mounted for a few minutes. Priced below extras. Price is dropped from my last post. $89

Stems were lubed with 205g0, filmed with Deskeys, and spring-swapped to 65g Sprit double-stage lubed with GPL 105. Never soldered. Has a similar sound to Creams but with a lighter bottom-out sound. $49

2024.05.20 07:35 EclipseZer0 Despair Reborn decks

While everyone else might be sleeping or brewing actually serious decks, the first thing I did when SVPortal was updated was craft decks built around Despair Reborn. I've crafted 1 for Rotation and 1 for Unlimited, but the Unlimited one can be modified for each class, as you'd only need to keep the Neutrals, swap the wincons and swap the tutors. (DISCLAIMER: this decks were made in a hurry and can be further refined, any suggestion is welcome)
Despair Dragoncraft (Rotation)
Dragoncraft is the only class I see using Despair Reborn in Rotation, due to its high cost and discard cards. The endgoal is simple: ramp, find the 4 Storm cards, discard them and play Despair Reborn for the win. Even if everything goes right and you get a turn 6 Despair, the deck is obviously weak to Wards, and ramping to 10pp for Case Cracked will prove difficult. Some cards are a matter of preference, like Lilium over Mermaid. I also thought about Degeneraye Dragon, but the board slots would become a problem and the tutor consistency would decrease.
Despair Swordcraft (Unlimited)
In Unlimited is where Despair Reborn can shine thanks to the saturation of its UL-only condition, tutors, strong targets and Altered Fate all at your disposal. I choose Swordcraft but surely you can pull this with almost all classes. I did some cheeky things like running Average Axeman to recover 2pp for Case Cracked, run Angelic Snipe to pop shields, etc. Due to the massive UL pool I am sure this deck has even more room for improvement.

2024.05.20 07:33 EvilChookie [Standard] Surprise Domain Dinos

Greetings Spikes! Returning to standard after a very long time (my last standard format was Theros/Khans of Tarkir standard).
I'm currently playing a Naya/Domain-ish shell, but with Dinosaurs instead of the more traditional Atraxa/Archangel/Control packages.
The decklist in question: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/cOIZmT1hjUeZ8waR3Qlaug
Generally speaking, the deck will start ramping in the early turns, using the lifegain from Armadillo and Herd Migration to ward off aggro. Postboard will see Tranquil Frillback and Temporary Lockdowns come out of the board.
This will continue until a 5 or 6 cost creature can be dropped, which usually requires answering. Later on, Smuggler's Surprise will pull ahead quite nicely, and dropping two fatties on turn 6 can just as easily equal game. Vaultborn Tyrant is categorically nuts in multiples, or with Elesh Norn. It also trades favourably, since it comes back as a token. It also does work against Sheoldred.
Postboard, I find myself often siding out some of the slower ramp (Spelunking, Cartographer's Survey) as well as Chimil, Immodane's Recruiter, and maybe a topiary stomper or two.
Temporary lockdown is an excellent answer against many faster decks, and when you couple lockdown with your lifegain (which gets better if you bring in Frillback) they have no way to pressure you easily. Getting to turn 6 against mono red is rough.
Cards like Pick your Poison are there explicitly for the Esper Midrange and Domain Matchups - Atraxa is a hard nut to crack. It can be done in Game 1 with a pair of triggers (or one sufficiently large trigger) from a Terror of the Peaks, but it's still tough to line up.
Tranquil Frillback is good against obnoxious enchantments, artifacts, graveyards and mono-red players.
Against control, I like the idea of Urabrask's Forge, but it seems only good if I can land it. I guess if nothing else, it baits a counterspell that would otherwise be used against either an un-caverned creature, or against a huge Smuggler's Surprise? But that doesn't make me feel a whole lot better. Chimil can also help there, I guess - but still it's a bit of a crapshoot against control.
Some things that might look a bit unusual (or why I'm not going with specific choices):
Based on what I've written so far, and looking over the deck, I think the immediate action is to cut Cartographer's Survey and Chimil, the Inner Sun - they're good, but they don't come out anywhere near enough and often get trimmed at sideboard time. That'll get me back to 60 cards.
Right now, I have a few things that I'm thinking about, and would appreciate some input on.
  1. The deck is running a full suite of domain lands, because hitting a Herd Migration off Etali feels good. Given that I'm not running a) the full set of 12 trilands, and b) not running leyline binding, is it worth dropping Spara's Headquarters and Ziatora's Proving Ground for some more fastlands (Copperline Gorge, Razorverge Thicket) and a couple of slow lands (Rockfall Vale, Overgrown Farmland).
  2. If I were to cut the trilands (making it 3 colors) is it worth dropping the Immodane's Recruiter (either for Palani's or something else)?
  3. If I don't get rid of the domain subtheme, what else should I add to make domain a) more consistent or b) other value-adds
  4. I kind of like the idea of Omenpath Journey, in place of Cartographer's Survey. Same cost, much more consistent result; albeit over a longer period of time.
  5. Spelunking is nice when it comes out, but I'm not really seeing enough of it to matter - between landing a few trilands early in the game, and a few basics, it rarely makes a meaningful difference.
  6. I was thinking about Hulking Raptor, as it is a decent body with Ward 2, and untapping with it on turn 5 can lead to some truly disgusting turns - Carnosaur and Armadillo can be cast of 4 lands + Hulking Raptor mana; and an untapped land that turn leads to Etali, Herd Migration, Vaultborn Tyrant, or a Smuggler's Surprise in Mode 1+2.
  7. I tried an Up the Beanstalk variant adding a few more cards to go up to 70 in the main (so I didn't deck myself on the good game when Vaultborn hits in multiples or with Elesh Norn). It wasn't bad, but did feel alright in the early game since I always had something to do (and before turn 5 currently, things can be a little action light).
I know this isn't a meta deck - but I would like to do well in Bo3 on Arena, and do reasonably against the stronger decks at my locals. Thanks for looking!

2024.05.20 07:32 ramzar266 Played the Japanime Tactics Gran Starter Set, initial thoughts

There is almost no information, discussion or videos about this game at all. I know it only recently got shipped out but I was surprised I couldn't even find unboxing pictures or videos of the product.
I had no idea it existed until I saw a tweet about people's copies shipping out after a lot of silence from the company about the game. My partner and I are into board games and Granblue enough so we decided to give it a go.

Price of Entry

So there are two separate starter sets, the Gran set comes with Gran, Lyria, Rackam & Noa. The Djeeta set comes with Djeeta, Katalina, Vira and Io. Either one is about $40 before shipping which actually isn't that bad for what we thought would be the base game. (more on this later)
There's also the full 12 character expansion set for around $70, the super deluxe complete set that comes with both starters, the 12 character expansion set AND 4 more characters unique to this bundle (Meteon?? The Lowain bros, Another Katalina?? and Elmott) for $150. If neither of those seem appealing there was confusingly enough individual character expansion packs for $6 which are completely random on what character you get out of the 12 in the expansion.

The Rules

No way to get around it, the rulebook flows terribly. It could really use some reorganizing in how it delivers the rules to you and maybe some more in-play examples of actions or turns playing out. It has some neat ideas that in execution makes the game seem simple but has potential for interesting strategy. Things like, once the 1st turn player is decided upon, they will continue to go first each round unless another player takes a specific action during the current round to take it from them. The chaining system, normally after you take an action with one of your characters, priority passes to the opponent and they take an action with one of their characters. If you use cards with matching colors together you can create a "chain" and act multiple times with different characters before the opponent can act. This sounds really strong but like a lot of other things in the game has it's own opportunity cost and other things to manage with it but it is fun to play around with and could make deckbuilding more interesting with more character options. It also vaguely frames that the first-setup game it has you play will be using some alternate rules, which a lot of games do to ease in players. What it does not tell you until the end of the book is that The game is normally played with 4 characters per team, which suddenly makes things like the chaining system the game has make more sense.

The Marketing

This realization at the end of the rule book that games are normally played with 4 Characters per team, with a few rule changes makes you double take at that $40 entry price on the Starter set. Because now you have essentially half of a full game, meaning you cannot experience the game the way rules were designed for without either buying the 2nd Starter set, the expansion set or 4 of the random chance character packs. I don't see much reason to buy the random packs, if you like the game or system enough to get more it would make much more sense to just get the guaranteed set of 12 instead of gambling on a few extra characters that may or may not be the ones you'd want to play. It just felt really weird once it clicked how designed the system is around it's chaining system and action economy when the Starter set barely gives you the tools to play with it.

Production Value

Overall pretty pleased with the physical aspects of the game, the board is nice and has some pretty basic terrain for elevation and some 3D trees which is far more than some other games of this type would give you. The punch out tokens and other things like the round counter all do their job well enough and having a Gold Brick as the "Control the Point" piece for the map is funny enough. Oh yeah each character uses a pretty decent quality acrylic art stand to represent themselves on the board which is a huge step up from having card board punch outs or something, really nice touch. I have one gripe and that is how boring the card art is. The main stat card for each character is fine it's 3/4th body shots of their art from the game which is nice. Their actual ability cards that are supposed to represent their attacks and skills from the game are all just their in-game sprite poses with no extra art or flair to any of them! As someone who likes a good mix of mechanics & art to their games, this part really disappointed me. Gran's cards all have the exact same sprite in the exact same pose pasted 5 times with one other card having a different sprite pose and that's it.

Conclusion

Sorry if some of this turned into more of a ramble but I wanted to get my thoughts out on the game after giving it a good round of plays as I haven't seen anyone really saying anything about it. We grabbed the 12 character expansion ourselves to try out full games and that might change my feelings on some things.
Overall I think the game and it's rules are nice and snappy with some hit or miss production value to it. I don't think it uses the Granblue IP in a meaningful way but I swear I remember reading an off-hand comment that "Japanime Tactics" was supposed to be a game that was going to expand with multiple IPs included. I'd need a fact-check on that but it would explain things about the rules and marketing for the game.
If anyone else has some thoughts about the game too I'd love to read them or if anyone is willing to post pictures of the expansion character cards I really want to read and see what they do!!

One of the features that truly stood out to me was the ceramic blade, which reportedly stays sharp 10 times longer than steel blades. I've certainly noticed a difference – not only in the effortless slicing, dicing, and mincing of fruits and vegetables, but also in the seamless transition from chopping meats to finely chopping herbs.
The ergonomic handle offers a comfortable grip, adding to the overall ease of use, and the vivid color options provide a visual appeal that makes it stand out amongst my other kitchen tools. As someone who has been using the Kyocera Revolution Ceramic Utility Knife in my daily life, I must say that it has been a game changer. Its ergonomic handle feels comfortable in my hand, providing precise control as I slice through fruits, vegetables, and even some small meats.
What stood out to me the most is the ceramic blade's ability to stay sharp for an incredibly long time, way more than any steel blade I've ever used. It really makes a difference when I'm preparing my meals, as I don't have to spend time honing my knife skills and wasting precious time.
However, I must mention that the knife can be quite brittle, as the users in the reviews suggested. So it's essential to handle it with care, especially when storing it in a drawer. Also, it's not a great tool for cutting boneless meat or fish, as its blade isn't thin or agile enough.
But overall, I've been very pleased with the Kyocera Revolution Ceramic Utility Knife. It's perfect for any chef or home cook, and it has definitely improved my kitchen experience. Plus, it's quite light, which reduces fatigue during those repetitive cutting tasks. It's a worthwhile investment, provided you're attentive to its fragility.

🔗Rapala Ceramic Utility: Lightweight, Corrosion-Resistant Knife with Soft Grip Handle

The Rapala Ceramic Utility Knife has been a game changer in my daily life. The super-sharp, super-tough ceramic blade is surprisingly lighter than I expected, making it a perfect companion when I'm on the move. What I loved the most was its resistance to corrosion – it's like it's indestructible! But the real icing on the cake was the molded soft grip handle. It felt incredibly comfortable to hold, and it made using the knife a pleasant experience.
One thing I noticed was that the compression sheath could be a bit tricky to use at first. It took some extra effort to make it hold tight for safe storage and transportation. However, once I figured it out, I appreciated the added security it provided.
Overall, the Rapala Ceramic Utility Knife 4 inch Black RCUKB4 has been a reliable and efficient tool in my daily routine. And with its sharpness, durability, and easy gripping handle, it's hard not to love it!

I've had the pleasure of using Kyocera's Ceramic Outdoor Camp Kitchen Knife and Sheath Set, and let me tell you, it has been quite the experience. The knife is perfect for my outdoor adventures, as it's durable, rust-proof, and resistant to germs and acids.
One of the most impressive features of this knife is its ultra-sharp, pure advanced ceramic blade. It's incredibly lightweight and easy to clean, which is exactly what I need when I'm out in the wild. And the ergonomic soft grip handle? It provides a comfortable, highly controlled grip, making it a pleasure to use.
The heavy nylon sheath with the Velcro strap is a nice addition, too. It keeps the knife safe and secure, and the belt loop makes it easy for me to access it whenever I need it. The fact that this product is made from Kyocera's proprietary zirconia material is an extra bonus, as it guarantees exceptional quality and beauty.
While this knife is ideal for camping, fishing, hiking, and picnics, I would avoid using it on hard foods or objects. But overall, I've been really happy with this set and would definitely recommend it to those who love spending time in the great outdoors.

🔗Ultra-Sharp Ceramic Paring Knife

https://preview.redd.it/vycayu2xmi1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2af656ee8be16264bfbb176ed1ac38f37606bb78
As a reviewer, I've been using this Kyocera Revolution ceramic 3-inch paring knife for a few weeks now, and I must say, it has been quite an experience. The knife is incredibly sharp, making it perfect for intricate tasks like trimming, peeling, and garnishing. Its lightweight design, combined with the ultra-sharp ceramic blades, makes it easy to maneuver and a joy to use in the kitchen.
However, I have encountered a minor drawback - the blade is much harder to sharpen than I'm used to, requiring a bit more patience and effort than steel knives I've used in the past. Nevertheless, I appreciate that ceramic blades maintain their edge up to 10 times longer than steel blades, and the fact that they won't brown food, rust, or be resistant to acids.
Overall, using this Kyocera 3-inch ceramic paring knife has been a great experience, and I've grown to love this new addition to my kitchen. Its sleek design, sharp blade, and ease of use have made it a staple in my daily cooking routine.

🔗Premium Ceramic Folding Pocket Razor Knife

As someone who's always on the go, I found the SHOCFR Shomer-Tec Ceramic Folding Razor Knife to be an essential addition to my everyday carry. This little guy is so compact, fitting perfectly into my pockets without taking up too much space. The 1" black finish ceramic blade is surprisingly sharp, making it incredibly useful for various tasks like cutting rope or opening packages. I appreciate the sleek black synthetic handle, which feels sturdy and comfortable in my hand.
While I'm a big fan of this pocket knife, there were a couple of drawbacks. The first thing I noticed was how easily the blade would snap shut. It happened a few times when I accidentally pressed it against something hard. Furthermore, the fact that it's made in China makes me a bit skeptical about its long-term durability.
Overall, the SHOCFR Shomer-Tec Ceramic Folding Razor Knife was a handy tool to have with me. Its compact size and sharp blade made it perfect for everyday use. However, its low-quality materials and tendency to snap shut may be a deal-breaker for some potential buyers.

🔗Ultra-Durable Ceramic Utility Knife for Outdoor Adventures

https://preview.redd.it/j8ofygtxmi1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4e166123c54c848d130a7f06580b428fac9e2a4
I recently started using the Rapala Ceramic Utility Knife, and let me tell you, it's impressive. The blade is incredibly sharp right out of the box - twice as sharp as a steel blade, as advertised! And not only that, it stays sharp for much longer, thanks to its fantastic edge retention - 15 times better than steel.
As someone who frequently spends time outdoors, I love the lightweight and non-porous construction; it doesn't rust or corrode. Plus, the handle is a game-changer. The molded soft-grip design feels comfortable in my hand, even during long fishing trips.
The Open-Design Compression Sheath is a thoughtful addition too, ensuring safe storage and transport. The only downside I've noticed so far is that, while the knife itself is fantastic, the sheath that comes with it could use some improvement. Thankfully, it hasn't been a dealbreaker for me.
Overall, I highly recommend this Rapala Ceramic Utility Knife. Its features make it an excellent choice for cutting chores and fishing trips alike.

🔗Ceramic Pocket Knife: Stays Sharp 10 Times Longer for Precise Cutting

https://preview.redd.it/difwpk5ymi1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71059ec74baa88a9481e6d34153e4b07e5f00b91
The Kyocera Revolution 4.5" Ceramic Utility Knife is a game-changer for those seeking precision in the kitchen. With a ceramic blade that's 50% harder than metal and 10 times sharper than average knives, this knife makes quick work of slicing through fruits, veggies, and boneless meats.
The slip-resistant, ergonomic handle is comfortable and reduces fatigue during extended cutting tasks. Best of all, the ceramic blade doesn't absorb food elements, requiring only a quick rinse for easy cleanup.
This knife truly earns its place in any kitchen, becoming a trusted go-to tool for home cooks and seasoned chefs alike.

🔗Precision-Cut Ceramic Chef Knife with Long-Lasting Sharpness

https://preview.redd.it/cwyhzzoymi1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1960c16015d035f9f8718a078113639d7e20116e
I recently started using the Starfrit Ceramic Chef Knife and I must say, it's a game-changer in the kitchen. This 6-inch blade is incredibly sharp and stays that way up to 10 times longer than a steel blade, making cutting tasks a breeze. The ergonomic design of the knife, with its soft grip handle, is definitely a plus.
I found that this knife really stands out when it comes to cutting fruits, vegetables, and boneless meats. One time, I even used it for Thanksgiving, preparing an assortment of veggies for a big dinner, and it handled the task flawlessly. The smooth texture of the handle also allows for a comfortable grip.
However, I did notice a downside—the blade is incredibly sharp, which means you have to be very careful while handling it. It's also worth mentioning that these ceramic knives are not suitable for carving, boning, or any application that requires flexing or twisting. They should only be used with plastic or wooden cutting boards.
So far, I've been really happy with the Starfrit Ceramic Chef Knife, but I'm keeping an eye on the durability of the handle. I hope it holds up well, because I truly love using this knife in my daily life. If you're into ceramic knives, this one is definitely worth the investment.

🔗Premium Ceramic Utility Knife with Pakka Wood Handle

https://preview.redd.it/mpujyi0zmi1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=230e09a927356589c39b9ceb0bf3ee8eb1c2056d
As someone who's tried the Kyocera LTD Ceramic Utility Knife, I can say it's a game-changer in the world of cutting tools. When you finally hold this ceramic beauty in your hand, you can't help but admire its sleek, hand-crafted pakka wood handle and the exquisite blade it comes with.
During my daily food prep, I found this knife to be incredibly versatile, cutting through fruits, vegetables, and boneless meats like butter. The ceramic blade really does last significantly longer than steel blades and stays sharp for ages. Plus, it prevents any metallic taste or unwanted reactions with my food.
The pakkawood handle fits perfectly in my hand, making cuts effortless and ergonomic. The knife is surprisingly lightweight compared to steel models, reducing strain during long cutting activities. However, it's always wise to avoid hard surfaces like marble when using the knife.
It's important to remember to hand wash it after use and to keep it away from the dishwasher. Overall, the Kyocera LTD Ceramic Utility Knife has easily become a go-to tool in my kitchen, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, long-lasting cutting utensil.

🔗Kyocera Ceramic Knife Set: Santoku Knife and Peeler

https://preview.redd.it/0aq8x5nzmi1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a01a2608c35930eaab31bc420910181c11977a52
As someone who loves to cook, I've had the pleasure of trying out the Kyocera Ceramic Blue knife and peeler set. I was immediately drawn to the unique blue handle, which not only looked stylish in my kitchen but also added a touch of elegance to my cooking process.
The Santoku knife, with its 14cm blade, was a delight to work with. Its ergonomic design allowed for a comfortable grip, and the ceramic material made it incredibly durable and easy to maintain. However, the peeler, with its 4cm blade, was a bit harder to work with. While it was efficient in removing the skin, it took a bit more effort to use than I anticipated.
Despite this minor drawback, the overall experience was fantastic. The Kyocera Ceramic Blue knife and peeler set has become a staple in my kitchen, and I've received countless compliments on its unique design and functionality. If you're looking for a versatile and stylish set of knives, this one is definitely worth considering.

🔗Kyocera Ceramic Utility Knife & Y-Peeler Set for Precise Cuts

Recently, I stumbled upon Kyocera's Ceramic Utility Knife & Y-Peeler Set, and I couldn't resist giving it a try. The set comes with two essential, sharp tools for the kitchen - a 4.5-inch utility knife and a Y-peeler. The utility knife features a ceramic blade made from Kyocera's proprietary zirconia material, a remarkable high-tech material known for its superior edge retention. The dense and smooth blade surface allows for absolutely precise cuts.
The Y-peeler, on the other hand, has a sharp, flexible ceramic blade with outstanding corrosion resistance. This makes it perfect for any repetitive peeling tasks, and it's no wonder I've been using it for various fruits and vegetables.
What stood out for me was the ergonomic handle and the ultra-lightweight design of the utility knife. This feature makes the knife incredibly easy to handle, even for extended periods. However, one downside I noticed is that the white ceramic blade tends to discolor over time, especially with certain food items. That aside, washing it immediately after use helps to minimize this issue.
In summary, Kyocera's Ceramic Utility Knife & Y-Peeler Set offers the perfect blend of sharpness, flexibility, and durability, making it an essential addition to any kitchen. While it may have some negative aspects, overall, it's a valuable investment for any food enthusiast.

🔗Lightweight and Durable Ceramic Pocket Knife for Comfortable Cutting

I recently tried the Kyocera Revolution Ceramic Utility Knife Red, and I must say, it's a game-changer in the kitchen. While the box only contains one item, the knife itself is an impressive piece of engineering. The ergonomics are top-notch, with a comfortable grip that makes the slicing process more controlled and enjoyable.
One key feature that stood out to me is the blade's incredible edge retention. It retains its sharpness ten times longer than steel knives, which is a massive plus for anyone who values the lasting quality of their tools. Moreover, I appreciate how the ceramic material provides a pure and healthy alternative to steel knives, as it doesn't transfer metal ions to food or corrode due to acids or oils. It also never rusts, which is a great bonus.
The Kyocera knife is incredibly lightweight, reducing fatigue when in use, especially during long cutting tasks. While the blade may be half the weight of an equivalent steel knife, it feels like an extension of your hand.
However, there's one downside to this knife—handle with care. The ceramic blade is prone to chipping if not handled correctly. Also, it might be a bit delicate to use for cutting large items or anything that requires a lot of force.
Overall, the Kyocera Revolution Ceramic Utility Knife Red is a well-made, easy-to-use tool that boasts impressive edge retention, a comfortable grip, and a visually appealing design. It's a worthy addition to any kitchen, and I can't wait to showcase its capabilities to my friends and family.

Ceramic pocket knives are made of high-quality ceramic blades and stainless steel handles. The blade material, Zirconium Oxide, is known for its hardness, sharpness, and resistance to corrosion. This makes the knife ideal for various cutting tasks, including slicing, chopping, and skinning. The stainless steel handle provides a comfortable grip and durability, while the pocket clip allows easy carrying.

Safety Features

Safety is essential when choosing a pocket knife. Look for ceramic pocket knives with locking mechanisms that secure the blade in place when not in use. This will prevent accidental openings and keep you safe from injuries. Additionally, check for slip-resistant handles to ensure a secure grip even in wet or slippery conditions.

Size and Portability

Consider the size and weight of the ceramic pocket knife when choosing one. A smaller and lighter knife is more convenient for everyday carry, while a larger knife may offer more cutting power. However, make sure the size is comfortable for you to handle and store in your pocket or backpack.

Storing them in a protective case is also recommended to avoid accidental scratches or damage.

Are there any downsides to using a ceramic pocket knife?

  • Brittle blades when cutting hard materials
  • Cannot be resharpened like steel knives
  • May require specialized sharpening tools
  • Higher cost compared to traditional steel pocket knives

How do I keep my ceramic pocket knife safe?

A protective case is the best way to keep your ceramic pocket knife safe. This will prevent any accidental damage from occurring due to the blade's brittleness. Additionally, make sure to store your knife in a dry location and avoid exposing it to water or extreme temperature changes.

2024.05.20 07:16 InfraredAces Cheap SMD Linear HE Sensor (0-3.3V) Alternatives to A1304ELHLX-T

I am planning a project for a hall effect keyboard and the current board I've designed is based on the Allegro A1304ELHLX-T. One issue that I am running into is the cost of this component. At 1usd a chip, it will be a substantial portion of the cost to fab and assemble these boards.
I was hoping someone would have recommendations on a cheaper, readily available, SMD linear hall effect sensor that operates/outputs an analog 0 to 3.3V signal. I am specifically not looking for digital switch. It must output an analog signal.

2024.05.20 07:06 Spiritual_Ferret_474 AITA for my anger at my husband for building houses for family members at cost (no profit for us) and as such refusing to go back to work full time after the birth of our 1st child?

My husband has a full time job which requires 60-80 hours of his time weekly. He fell into building houses as a sideline business when he started with our first house when we were first married. Since then he has built houses for his brother, sister, parents and cousins, all at cost. He has also built houses on spec and the profit for us is usually around $60-$80,000. At the same time, we've just had our first child. I want to be a stay at home mom even though I do possess a college education. He keeps hounding me to go back to work full-time. I was never on board with him doing what he is doing with regards to his family. I thought at the very least they should pay $30-$40,000 over cost for his managerial labor. That way they would be getting a break but we would be making some money. What really irks me is that my husband refuses to acknowledge that in essence, we gave them $60,000 to $80,000 which is what they would've had to have paid had they bought the house from some other builder. He refuses to acknowledge this. My degree is in accounting. It is factually correct according to the IRS that that should be considered income to them. He thinks (extended) family comes first and it is his responsibility to do what he is doing. I'm wondering what about our little family? Will we always come last? He works more than enough hours at his regular job and I could use a break or a date night rather than him now spending an additional 10 to 20 hours per week on the house. But the icing on the cake is him absolutely hounding me to go back to work full time. I pointed out to him that I wouldn't have to go back to work if he was getting paid for his work. So in essence, I need to go back to work to support him being able to build houses for his family members for free?!!! Am I the asshole in this situation?

2024.05.20 06:29 Patient_Ad3716 My brother is a union plumber, hired me to build a website for a side job business and promote it but worried about potential legal issues...

Found out he's not technically licensed or insured even though his business cards say it and the website I built for him says it. I thought all union plumbepipefitters were licensed... He does commercial plumbing work for extremely big projects in Ohio, new construction but the side jobs would be evening/weekend residential repair and new installation upgrades. He doesn't want to pay taxes on the side jobs so he doesn't want to incorporate with an LLC so this is really challenging for me because in order to promote him or work with Google on targeted ads or do search engine optimization to get him clients I need some kind of business name as a title that he shows up as, whether in targeted Google ads or as one of the Google search engine results or in one of the many business directories for professional plumbers that I need to link his name and website and contact info to in order to make him a top Google search result.
I understand not wanting to pay taxes, especially when he is already in a high tax bracket from making $48 an hour at his regular 9-5 but taxes are a fact of life.. I don't like paying taxes either. Since he doesn't want to get an LLC I need to make sure the business name I use isn't actually registered so he doesn't get sued, I have to worry about whether or not Google and other platforms verify licensure and insurance and incorporation before allowing ads or being added to their directories, it's a frickin mess..
Have any of you guys had a side job business and managed to have your website at the top of Google without incorporating and being licensed and insured? He said he can get insured, that's not an issue but I don't understand why he isn't licensed...is it that hard? How do you make $48 an hour and a union journeyman with 20 years experience but not licensed? He definitely has the training, skill, experience...but years back he was addicted to heroin for a while and got a couple theft charges, does that prevent you from being a licensed plumber in Ohio? He's been clean for many years now...If that's the reason why, I don't know if he's ever checked into whether or not it's a deal breaker for lice sure. The licensing is up to a state board, right? It was a pretty long time ago now, since the theft... Seems like they would license him since he hasn't been in trouble since that fiasco if that were the issue.
But yeah, if anyone is familiar with what my brother is trying to accomplish with his side business or what I'm trying to accomplish helping to promote his side work through the website I designed for him and am looking to promote, any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.
Im not a tax accountant but I wish I could convince him to just get an LLC and just pay taxes, would certainly make it easier for me to promote this side business. It seems like he could easily be targeted by the IRS and he wouldn't have protection from getting sued and a lot of jobs wouldn't work out if they are jobs being paid for by insurance companies that probably require work to be done by licensed, insured, plumbers and by someone with a tax id/ with an llc.
Even though he would be paying a lot of tax money, it seems like he could take advantage of a lot of tax write offs. Wouldn't he be able to write off payments for his new truck, a portion of his mortgage payment since some of his house could be claimed as office space, cell phone bill for service calls, gas for service calls, etc? If you have info like that and know real numbers of the savings from tax write offs and real cost numbers of hiring an accountant and things like filing articles of incorporation that could help convince him to do all of this the legit way I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

2024.05.20 06:12 meandthesky38 Earplug recommendations?

Sorry in advance for the long backstory:
I (28F) just moved to a new studio apartment in the middle of a downtown area. The building overlooks an alley which contains a bar that plays VERY loud music multiple evenings (and sometimes afternoons) a week, continuing as late as 2AM. When it is playing it is impossible for me to concentrate on essentially anything, including listening to my own music (my bluetooth earbuds do virtually nothing to block it out) or sleeping. If I had known how bad it would be I never would have rented the apartment but I was just going off what the property manager told me. (Which is not what I have experienced so far). In addition to being more sensitive to (some) loud noises due to my autism and my sleep/daily life being impacted, I am also a musician myself (choral singer) so preserving my hearing is very important to me in that context.
I am in the process of exploring options (including possibly getting sound-blocking curtains or else very possibly moving out and going back to the drawing board to find another place) but in the meantime I need something to make it tolerable. (Thankfully my parents live in the area so for now I'm just at their house on the nights that the music is playing). I think I should get a pair of earplugs but I'm not sure what kind. I tried the cheap foam ones years ago and found them uncomfortable for more than a few minutes and ideally I want something that I can wear for multiple hours at a time, including while sleeping. I have been investigating Loops and from the photos and descriptions they seem like they could be the right thing, but I'm curious from people who use them, how well do they work? Are they worth the money? (Or is there a similar kind that costs less?) My income right now is very limited so I am kind of on a budget but will buy them in a heartbeat if they work well. I am not looking to block out ALL the noise, just enough that I can listen to my own music (I live alone so I can put it on a speaker and just have it loud enough I can hear it through the earplugs) and sleep. I am assuming the Loop Quiets would be the best particularly for overnight? I do not want over the ear noise-cancelling headphones as I don't like the look and they hurt my head if I wear them for extended periods.
Anyway, please send your recommendations!

2024.05.20 06:03 SurveyPsychological6 Reverse-Engineered "Secret Stock" Ads: A Way to Make Money to Counter Your AMC Losses

Hello.
This is Don Sees Your Shaydim. It's been a while.
Long-Winded Intro:
Ever sit through one of those 40 minute long ads by Whitney Tilson because you wanted to know what the fucking fuck the secret Tesla pr Apple supplier is, only to find that there’s no big reveal at the end? Instead, you’re asked to subscribe to an unaffordable newsletter. (These ads can’t be fast-forwarded!). The thing about these ads is you can figure out who these “secret” companies are, and it’s not hard. When I used to have time, I’d reverse engineer the latest 20-minute Motley Fool ad to discover the secret 5g stock, or the secret EV battery tech that will change the world.
I don’t have time like I used to. During the pandemic, I “worked” at home, which meant I spent my days yoloing into spacs and deconstructing stuff like Motley Fool and Stansberry Research reports for their stock picks. The good news is there are some devoted investors out there who have made it their jobs to take apart ads and reveal secret stocks.
If you’re looking for some plays, here are the results—the revealed stocks—from some recently reverse-engineered ads. The folks who did all this great work are Travis Johnson, who runs a fantastic online magazine called Stock Gumshoe. It is the only magazine I am subscribed to, and have been since 2020. I get a lot—if not most—of my investment ideas from Stock Gumshoe. Every single trade or investment idea that I’ve had from Gumshoe has been successful. Every single one. Every trade I’ve made because of shit I heard on YouTube has been a turd. I’m pumping this magazine because it works.
Alongside of Travis Johnson, we have Dylan Rieger. Just like Johnson, Rieger reverse-engineers ads, but on YouTube. He is prolific. His videos are roughly 10 minutes long, and they’re packed with well-curated information on each of the companies he reveals. If you’re thinking, “Why would I read a web magazine if I could just watch youtube videos?” Rieger’s videos are excellent, but Travis’s writing… he will teach you how to think. “But I don’t need to change the way I think about the market.” If you’re still fucking reading this, then chances are you suck at trading and investing. (I can already feel one or two of you typing, “Actually, ….”)
Below you will find a list of secret stocks that Johnson and Rieger revealed. I’ve listed the author of the newsletter or ad, the title of the article or presentation, the revealed stock, and relevant information. I figured that if I’ve had success this way, you might too. I like my wife’s feet, incidentally. I think they’re pretty.
Let me reiterate—I have been successful when I’ve used these sources as a starting point for a possible trade or investment. I’m a moron, however. I don’t stick with what works. I’m more likely to yolo into some garbage I heard about from a twenty-year old on YouTube. I said earlier that if you’re reading this, you probably suck at the market. But you’re probably way better than the person who wrote this. I address myself in third-person. I also like it when she wears tube socks and Doc Mertens.

Secret Stocks Revealed, May 2024
Dylan Jovine. “The New Space Race: 3 AI Stocks for Windfall Gains.” From Behind the Markets newsletter, which is currently listed at $49/yr. This focuses on defense industry AI-powered satellites, particularly speculations about defense contracts with the US Space Force. He teases several stocks, but the primary secret stock is BigBear (BBAI). BigBear has partnerships with Amazon AWS (AMZN), Palantir (PLTR), and L3Harris (LHX). Travis Johnson, whom I get almost all my info from, sees this BigBear speculation as a stretch. I agree. If BBAI does in fact get the Space Force contract: tendies. Jovine also pitches a backdoor way to get a stake in SpaceX, which is not publicly traded. The “backdoors” are the Private Shares Fund (PRIVX) and Destiny Tech 100 ETF (DXYZ). SpaceX constitutes about 35% of DXYZ. Jovine’s third stock—which is allegedly NASA’s secret AI chipmaker—is Arm Holdings (ARM).
Jason Williams. “The Exxon Slayer: The Small Firm Pioneering the Future of American Lithium.” Future Giants newsletter, which will cost you fucking $2,000. The secret stock is Standard Lithium (SLI). Totally worth a $2,000 subscription.
Shah Gilani. “Nvidia’s Secret Partner.” From Manward Monthly Report. The secret stock is Astera Labs (ALAB).
“This Tiny Canadian AI Stock Could Be the Next Nvidia.” Motley Fool Stock Advisor Canada. The secret stock: Docebo (DCBO). The company is in the e-learning realm, offering a cloud-supported platform for employee training and the like. This is not even remotely close to being Nvidia, but the company itself looks promising within its own sector.
Gerardo Del Real. “Trade of the Decade.” From Junior Resource Speculator, which is priced reasonably low—compared to Superbowl tickets or Berkshire Hathaway stock—at $2,000/yr. The secret stock is Kingsmen Resources (KNGRF). You really out to check out Travis Johnson’s reverse engineering of Del Real’s ad, and maybe consider subscribing to Stock Gumshoe, where he breaks down all sort of ads. He’s one of the best writers in this space. I have a fucking PhD. English. I hate everyone’s writing. Not his. He—Travis—also enlightens readers to similar stocks and stakeholders in that sector: Cameco (CCJ), GoGold Resources (GLDGF), Ivanhoe Mines (IVPAF), Abacus Mining (ABCFF), Cosa Resources (COSAF), Fission Uranium (FCUUF), Skyharbour Resources (SYHBF), EnCore Energy (EU), Uranium Energy Corp (UEC), Sprott Uranium Miners (URNM), Sprott Junior Uranium Miners (URNJ), Perpetual Resources (PPTA), Standard Uranium (STTD), Filo Mining (FLMMF)
Ross Givens. “Live Action War Room.” From Wall Street Watch Dogs. This ad was formerly called "The $3 AI Wonder Stock that Could Make You 75X Richer?" but was repackaged as The No. 1 AI Stock Opportunity of the Decade (Surprise: Only $6)” The secret stock is SoundHound AI (SOUN). Note: They are also pitching alongside of “The $3 AI …” “The Top Five Stocks Set to Soar in 2024.” These include Calix (CALX), SolarEdge (SEDG), Desktop Metals (DM), Adobe (ADBE), and Snowflake (SNOW).
Whitney Tilson and Porter Stansberry. “How I Cut My Salary to $1, Then Pocketed a Million Dollars in One Day With America’s New Money.” Stansberry Research. These ads don’t have clearly defined titles. This one covers a “secret US currency” otherwise called, “America’s New Money.” This is from Stansberry’s Investment Advisory. This is a weird pitch; basically, they’re suggesting that instead of buying stocks that trade on an exchange, you should buy the stock representing the exchange itself. The secret stock is CME Group (CME), otherwise known as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In Travis Johnson’s breakdown, he lists other publicly traded exchanges: Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), Nasdaq (NDAQ), MarketAxess Holdings (MKTX). In fact, here is his whole list: Euronext (EUXTF or ENRXY in the US), London Stock Exchange (LNSTY or LDNXF in the US), Australian Stock Exchange ASX (ASXFY, or ASXFF), São Paulo Stock Exchange Brazil (BOLSY), the Bolsa Mexicana (BOMXF), Over The Counter Markets OTC (OTCM)
Jason Simpkins. “Project Wingman.” From Secret Stock Files, which would cost you $1,999/yr. Military aircraft: Simpkins asserts that this defense contractor, Kratos (KTOS), has a “vice grip on next-generation technology that will render most of its competitors’ assets completely obsolete.” Project wingman involves using AI on fighter planes.
Keith Kohl. “The Undiscovered Tech Company Behind the Coming Trio-Fuel 238 Revolution.” Energy Investor newsletter currently listed at $99 yr. at basic level. Nuclear energy tech that’s apparently cleaner, safer, and more efficient than convention Uranium 238 tech. The secret stock is Lightbridge (LTBR).
Ray Blanco. “Did I Just Find the Hidden Cure to Cancer?” From Catalyst Trader, which would cost you $1000. The secret stock is Exscientia (EXAI). Dylan Rieger also notes that Alexander Green, another “famous” stock picker with an expensive newsletter, made EXAI the secret stock in focus for his “This Will Be the #1 Performing AI Stock of the Coming Decade” report.
Adam Odell. “Special Report #1: The AI Growth Engine” from the 10X Stocks newsletter, which is currently $995 yr. This is from the AI Power Summit, with 3 stocks “positioned to solve the AI energy problem.” The main stock is NuScale (SMR), which builds small modular nuclear reactors. The additional stocks are Centrus Energy (LEU), and Sprott Physical Uranium Trust (SRUUF).
Jason Williams. “The Tesla Killer is Here.” Wealth Advisors newsletter. Pitching “blue gas,” which is hydrogen fuel cells. The stock is Ballard Power (BLDP)
Alex Koyfman. “Lithium Volcano: Tapping the World’s Biggest Lithium Reserve.” The Crows Nest newsletter. 1 year membership is currently listed at 99$. The stock is Lithium Americas (LAC), who has a $650 million deal with GM.
Ian King. “AI Energy” presentation. Membership is currently $79. The stock is AMD (AMD)
Louis Navellier. “The Trump AI Boom: 3 Data Center Stocks with 100X Potential” and “The Second Wave of AI Comes in November.” From Growth Investor. The stocks are Innodata (INOD), Data Storage Corporation (DTST), and Applied Digital (APLD).
Luke Lango. “Elon Musk’s ChatGPT Could Soon Mint New Millionaires.” Innovation Investors Magazine, which is currently listed as on sale for $49/yr. The stock is Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM).
Luke Lango. “The Next Nvidia.” Investor Place. The stock is Lam Research (LRCX).
[Jason Williams. “The Exxon Slayer: The Small Firm Pioneering the Future of American Lithium.” Future Giants newsletter, which will cost you fucking $2,000. The secret stock is Standard Lithium (SLI). Totally work a $2,000 subscription.]()
Shah Gilani. “Nvidia’s Secret Partner.” From Manward Monthly Report. The secret stock is Astera Labs (ALAB).

2024.05.20 06:02 notyouraverageWyrm Tips, Tricks, and Pricing??

Hi guys. I'm an artist and a plant enthusiast, with that said, my plant group on Facebook is holding their yearly Plant BBQ-flea market-swap and raffle meetup, children welcome, and the aquantace who runs the show was having issues with finding an affordable face painter, so I stepped up to be the affordable option! With that said, I am going to be practicing a lot and taking ideas off places like ClockApp and Reels and such, I also will be practicing the designs on my friend prior just to try to get my speed down. I was wondering what reasonably affordable pricing would be for face painting? I don't want to cost an arm and a leg, esp when I'm a beginner and she's purchasing the face paints (I told her I would get the stencils, brushes and sponges on my own dime, she's a very giving and kind person!) I also don't want to charge her when it's not like, a birthday party or something and we don't know how many people will actually be showing up! I was thinking just set prices based on size of design. Also, any tips, tricks, ideas, etc? This will be in June and I'll be sitting at the kids section where they can paint rocks, bring their own pots to paint, etc and I want to make a board or something so I don't spend too long trying to create something on the kids, as I am not that talented and kids have a short attention span. Any help appreciated 💙

GM Locked Me Out Of Interacting With Other Players Because I Got Confused
Originally posted to rpghorrorstories
TRIGGER WARNING: manipulation, controlling behavior, sexism
Original Post March 6, 2024
I'm a player in a tabletop RPG campaign and I just wanted to vent about this session. The GM uses a "rules light" homebrew system and it's his homebrew world as well. He's been doing this campaign for years now, but I just joined through a mutual friend after another player left recently.
When I joined the campaign, the GM had told me he wanted me to be from a particular country as a prince, and since it was his homebrewed world, I went with it. The country I'm a prince of is a massive empire that has conquered many lands. I wanted to be a morally good character so I made up a backstory where my prince had a secret romance with a commoner so it gave me more empathy and understanding than my other royal peers would have. Then in session 1, he had the commoner immediately break up with me since the players were all leaving the city session 1.
Several sessions later, there is a carnival being hosted in the empire and all the players are attending. The players split up and my part began with my character watching as a mentally handicap child was put in the dunk tank and was being dunked against his will. So I had my character help the child and stop the game (This isn't relevant to the larger story but I thought it was really weird). Then I am told I have to go to the "main stage" which is just a strip club seemingly. And of course, walking around topless serving drinks is my character's commoner love interest that I made in session 0. The GM laughs a bit and comments, "Isn't it funny? Look at what your ex has to do without you." I have my character give her the shirt off his back and we go to the outskirts of the carnival to find a quiet place to talk, but then the carnival was ambushed by some enemies as arrows and fire rained down on the parade.
Suddenly, my character and his ex are teleported back to the main stage and the GM starts jumping back and forth between all the player characters asking what we want to do without any sort of initiative and if we don't respond quickly enough he skips to another player. I ask, "What direction are the arrows coming from?" GM, "You can't tell". "Which direction to the palace?" I ask. "You don't know," he tells me. I'm honestly genuinely confused about what to do here and my mind goes blank, but then the GM has my bodyguard (a Brienne of Tarth type) tell me to follow her so I do. As he cuts back and forth, another player loses his mom in the chaos, I tell GM, "I want to help him find his mom." "You can't see him" GM tells me. Then I ended up surrounded by 12 ambushers in the "Pleasure Gardens". GM asked what I would do. I say since the carnival is burning, I look for a piece of wood on fire and since it's the pleasure gardens maybe there's some oil I can spill and light on fire to separate myself, my bodyguard, and ex who are all with me from the ambushers. He tells me there's no oil and then I'm held down by the men. I tried to escape, but he says I failed (he just did a dice roll behind his screen and didn't tell me the results). I am then hogtied by the ambushers with my bodyguard and ex and thrown in a cart. Meanwhile, the other two players have stolen a cart and are escaping. I try to do a goofy wave as my character is tied up towards my companions and he just says, the carts never pass each other so the other players don't see you. Before the session ends he tells me my bodyguard is dead.
After the session, I think my body language showed I was a bit bummed. So GM pipes in, "You want to know why you failed that encounter?" He proceeded to tell me it was because I followed my bodyguard and there was no way a woman could have protected me and I needed to make the choice instead. Some of the other players chimed in and said it was surprising my bodyguard failed since in the lore she was a 20-year veteran who survived "The Great War". The GM keeps defending his choice. Then he started making self-deprecating jokes about how he just sucks then and he's the worst GM ever until the other players all reassure him it's fine. I kind of just sat there shell-shocked.
His system reduces dice rolls to a rarity and he does them all himself as a "way to keep tension". I'm honestly more about hanging out with my friends than judging the quality of any campaign or system but this was my first "combat" of any sort in the campaign and I just felt so helpless in this system and it was frustrating. Plus there are no insight or persuasion rolls, just what the GM claims "my character would know" and "how his NPCs would act". So I'm not sure how I was supposed to handle this encounter. Being a GM myself, I thought he was using my bodyguard character to get me back on track, but I thought wrong. I honestly wouldn't have minded if he was just railroading me for a plot point, but him trying to manipulate me and saying his hands were tied when he essentially locked me out of interacting with the other players for the rest of the session is what bothers me the most.
Edit: Changed gaslighting to manipulating since I was using the term wrong and don't want to dilute it's meaning.
Update: GM Defends Style And Told Me He Owns My Character March 20, 2024
This is an update from my post a couple of weeks ago.
One of my friends in the group reached out to me and asked me to not leave the group. He told me there were only 2 sessions left and asked me to stick around as a favor to him. I told him I'd reach out to GM and see if we could get on the same page. So I texted the GM and told him I wanted to talk because I had some concerns after the way everything went down last session. He was down and we talked on the phone a couple of days later. To my surprise, the first thing he did was profusely apologize. I hadn't been responding in our group chat, partly because I was mad and partly because my partner had a death in her family. I guess me not responding caused him to dwell on the last session a bunch. He said he was going to retcon my bodyguard's death and keep her alive. I even told him that the treatment of women in the campaign was bad and that it was making the story worse, he told me that it is something that he can work on being better about too. I was surprised, but all this gave me a lot of optimism for this conversation.
I was honest and I told him that his homebrew system is very difficult for me since I don't have a character sheet. So my character doesn't have abilities, he doesn't level up, and I can't do things like roll investigate or perception rolls which makes it hard for me to make informed decisions. I told him it makes me very risk adverse because I don't have things like HP to even know if I'm in danger. He responded to this by telling me I shouldn't worry about that because his GM style rewards me if I roleplay well enough. He went on to say he hates systems with things like perception rolls because that's "Not how real life works".
I also lamented the fact that I also don't get to interact with the other players much. I didn't mention this in my first post, but he plays with all of us in a Discord call but he only plays with us one at a time, and the two of us who aren't playing are expected to listen and record notable quotes for his notes. He'll switch between characters where each player gets 2-3 "scenes" in a 3 hour session. He has our characters all spread out across the country Game of Thrones style and I've only gotten to play with another player in 2 sessions so far. This was also why that carnival scene was so frustrating because all 3 players were finally in the same place and we were trying to find each other and he just kept saying, "You don't see them".
He told me that he doesn't do party-based adventures because you can't get character growth that way. I pushed back and said I've seen awesome character growth in traditional DnD style games in the past, it just depends on the group. I also said he's just making things harder for himself by trying to run three campaigns instead of one. And if we don't have character sheets and aren't in a party then this is all more dramatic improv than a tabletop RPG.
He responded by saying his way is better because it creates a real story and that I should be happy because he made me the main character. (I guess that is what me being the prince means?) He then went on a rant about how much he loves the game world he created and he's very grateful that our characters brought it to life. But then he says that since it's his world, he feels like he owns our characters now and that after the campaign he wants us all to sign off on him using the characters to write books and a screenplay. And if we don't he'll just change their names and do it anyway. He then thanks me and tells me that this campaign is the main thing that has been stopping him from self-harm and going to dark places. Then he says he has to go and he rushes to hang up before I can say anything else.
I'm dumbfounded after that rapid-fire series of bombshells. I've known since the first few sessions that this was barely a TTRPG, but I got to hang out with my friends so I didn't care what it was. It was nice to hang out with old friends a couple times each month. Then the story got weird, and there was so much misogyny, and then I had the horrible session that caused my original post. Then in this conversation, he throws up even more red flags that I'm not blind to, but he is also planting a seed that he may harm himself without the campaign which is not something I want on my conscience. I'm just exhausted at this point.
TLDR: GM says that abilities and parties make TTRPGs worse and he wants to use our characters to write books/movies after the campaign because he owns them since we're playing in his world. He says he may fall back to self-harm without the campaign, making me feel guilty for wanting to leave.

I ended up doing one more session for the finale. There was some drama during that session and when I mentioned that I didn't want to play in the next season of the campaign. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post about it again. I might still, but I think I want to take some time and reflect on everything.

[Final Update] Moving On From My Toxic DM And Losing A Friend In The Process
This will hopefully be my last post on this sub for a long time, but I’ve been using this place to vent about my toxic situation for a while so I figured I might as well post how everything concluded and what happened when I left. I’m going to reflect on everything and recap the important parts so no one has to read 3 posts.
It all started when I decided to start DMing to keep in touch with some college friends after graduation. During my first campaign, one of the players, Pirate, asked if his friend, Colorado, could join. I didn't really know Colorado, but I figured, "the more, the merrier."
Colorado had some issues early on, giving unsolicited advice to everyone on how to play and viewing newer or shy players as “side characters”. However, he frequently missed sessions, only showing up for less than half of them for the first few years so nothing came to a head early on. Then, Colorado decided he wanted to bring back his tabletop campaign from his college days and started trying to recruit players after my sessions. Pirate suggested I join the campaign, promising that Colorado was a better DM than player. Since I had been the Forever DM up to that point, I agreed to give it a go.
I created a character who was part of the royal family but enjoyed interacting with commoners in the slums, even having a secret girlfriend from that background. After that, Colorado also started hitting me up to help with the campaign. I ended up photoshopping character art for a bunch of his NPCs and I even drew his world map for him. I didn't mind doing it, as I do that kind of stuff for fun.
For our first session, Colorado had already created character sheets for us based on our backstories, but only he could see them. Colorado would also roll all the dice himself so “all we had to focus on is roleplaying”. We played one on one in different "scenes" that could last around 30 minutes to an hour each. We usually had around 2 to 4 scenes per session, depending on what Colorado thought was important. During the game, Colorado asked us to write down quotes from him and the other players when it wasn't our turn.
I had to wait for well over an hour before I could finally play. My first session was on rails. I mostly just had to repeat after Colorado during a ceremony. Afterwards, I got to sneak out of the castle and meet with my commoner girlfriend, but Colorado immediately had her break up with me. Then I was told that I had to leave the city. I was essentially locked out of my hanging out in the slums and commoner girlfriend subplots. NPCs generally disliked my morally good character, especially my sister who was depicted as purely evil towards me. Despite my efforts to mend the relationship, she never changed her mind and Colorado never rolled any dice to determine that. Later Colorado revealed to me the character was based on his ex-girlfriend, who was originally intended to be the player character from my country before they broke up.
Eventually, I finally got to interact with another player, Soldier, who I had really good chemistry with and we had a really fun scene. Which Colorado exclaimed, “See! This is why I keep you apart. It makes these moments so much more epic!” But I’m just thinking that if we were in a party, every session could be this epic.
Then Colorado got busy. He went to some alternative medicine nature retreat and didn’t pay his rent the whole time he was gone so he got evicted. At that point, the campaign went on hiatus as people got busy and Colorado was couch hopping. It was during that time I considered the campaign over and made my first post because I thought it fit the sub. Then a year after the last session, Colorado started trying to organize the group to do 3 more sessions to finish the campaign. I just ghosted the group chat for a while, but Pirate’s roommate is a player in the campaign I DM so Pirate started hopping on the call asking me to come back for the finale. Pirate told me that it would be different this time because all of our characters were going to meet up for the finale and he really wanted to play with me. I naively agreed to give the game a second chance.
The first of those three sessions led to this post and this follow up.
[TLDR - I never got to meet up with the other characters. Colorado made my ex a stripper and I was captured by invaders with no dice rolls to prevent it. I had a conversation with him about my concerns after the last session. He apologized and agreed to make changes saying he needed the campaign for his mental health.]
Colorado decided to have a single super finale session, which I reluctantly attended because of sunk cost fallacy. I was imprisoned, beaten and whipped, separated from my girlfriend and recently resurrected bodyguard. A deus-ex ninja offered to help me escape, but I wanted to save all the prisoners. So I helped the commoners escape with the ninja before saving my girlfriend. My bodyguard got captured, but I made sure my girlfriend escaped and then I went to save my bodyguard because I wasn’t letting her die after she just got resurrected. I tried to find my bodyguard but every door was locked and I was forced into a long one on one fight with a guard that would make John Carpenter blush. I lost the fight due to an unknown -2 modifier on my fighting rolls, leading to my re-imprisonment.
Pirate tried to board a boat to reach my location, but was unsuccessful. Colorado informed him that the sailors refused to let him on the ship because they didn't like his tone. Fortunately, Soldier saved me and we agreed to stop the big bad and rescue my bodyguard together. With a squad of Soldier's peers, we pursued the big bad into the woods. Without any rolls, all the other soldiers were sniped by archers.
Finally, the two of us reached the clearing where the big bad and his followers were. We were outnumbered about 30-2. My bodyguard and the other commoners were tied to a tree. Soldier was the same race as the villain so he approached while I stayed hidden. He delivered an awesome passionate speech against the big bad's actions saying that it wasn’t what their ancestors would want. I’m sitting there waiting and hoping for a persuasion roll… and nothing. Colorado says the big bad doesn’t change his mind and he sets the tree on fire, causing my bodyguard and the commoners to burn to death. Soldier and I retreated into the woods to end the campaign.
Pirate was supposed to have a scene after us, but he fell asleep because it was past 1am. Colorado kept trying to call Pirate on the phone. I joke, “Hey, we’re old now, being up past midnight isn’t as easy as it used to.” To which Colorado replies, “I just thought Pirate had more respect for me than this.” The Discord call becomes quiet and after Colorado starts focusing on Soldier and I. He wants to know why we’re not discussing the ending more. I remarked that it was a bit of a downer and I’m tired. Then Colorado starts spiraling, saying that RPGs are just another medium that he failed at just like film and music. HE STARTS CRYING and hangs up from the Discord call. Soldier and I stayed on and had a short “That was awkward” conversation. I don’t know Soldier well so I didn’t say much about my grievances with the campaign and eventually we ended up just talking about Baldur’s Gate 3 for an hour.
The next day, I wake up to a barrage of texts from Colorado apologizing, mansplaining how hard it is to be a DM as if I’ve never done it myself. He then starts sending me messages with all his ideas for my character in the next season and how he promises I’ll have more freedom next time. I wouldn’t understand, but he NEEDED to do the prison sequence and my bodyguard to die for my character growth, but next season will be different. I tell him I’m not doing another season. Colorado replies saying that he thought I’d say that because Pirate (who was apparently not sleeping) told him Soldier and I were bitching about the campaign after the session. Colorado said that once I get over it, we can start talking about season 3. I reaffirmed my stance. Then Colorado texts me one last time and asks if I’ll still make his maps and character art even if I don’t play. I said no again.
It's been two months since I last heard from Colorado or Pirate. We used to play games and talk about pro wrestling all the time, but now there's been no contact. A lot of the comments on my posts helped me realize I was prioritizing Colorado’s mental health over my own and I felt like it was my responsibility to support his campaign because he constantly referenced how important it was to his mental health. Intentional or not, he preyed upon my empathy. I’m not his Giving Tree and I shouldn’t be left a stump for a campaign where he doesn’t even want us to affect the world.
I sometimes worry Pirate is going through a similar situation to me, but for a longer period of time. Pirate introduced me to Colorado, and he's really loyal to him. I think that slowed down my exit from the group because I trusted Pirate to be my friend as well. I remember opening up to Pirate about a panic attack I had while Colorado was spiraling one day, and he just shrugged it off as me being dramatic. It's frustrating. I want both of them to be happy, but I can't make that happen for them, especially if it comes at the expense of my own well-being.
I ended up venting to some of my irl friends and they really supported and listened to me which is why I didn’t feel a need to vent here. I learned a lot about what not to do when DMing from this campaign and it made me reevaluate my approach to playing RPGs. Now I'm in a group with my irl friends and it's a blast. I can relax and just have fun playing again.
TLDR - I started DMing to stay connected with college friends who were scattered across the country. One player, Pirate, introduced me to Colorado, who eventually took over as the DM. Colorado had some unconventional methods, such as not using character sheets and controlling all the dice rolls. The game became focused on his storyline and my character had limited agency. Despite this, I gave the campaign a second chance. In the final session, things went poorly, and Colorado had a breakdown. Despite his apologies and promises for the next season, I decided not to continue playing. I have not heard from Colorado or Pirate since. I now play with my real-life friends and it's much more enjoyable.

Glad you're doing better. That does sound like quite a toxic situation.
If I've understood it right, the stuff with Pirate 'falling asleep' but actually listening in to you and Soldier talking feels like a massive red flag to me. I understand worrying about him since you were/felt like you were friends, but if he's enabling Colorado with that sort of stuff then it's probably best to move on.
OOP
Yeah even the best case would be that Pirate woke up after Colorado left the call and just overheard Soldier and me talking without us realizing because his mic was muted and we assumed he had passed out and then he snitched after which is still a bad look tbh. I had been distancing myself from Pirate since he invalidated my panic attack prior to this. It's just hard to be vulnerable with someone again after that.

Fascia board replacement cost (Central OH) - while roof/siding/gutters are all being replaced
What should I expect to pay for this? I'm getting new roof, gutters, and siding (house has aluminum now, getting vinyl) from a hail storm last summer.
I asked the roofing company guy on his first trip out, and he said he "thought" that it was $5/ft. Seemed a little steep to me since I can get 12' bords for ~$8. I asked what the labor only would cost, and he said he'd check. Here we are ~5 weeks later and I ask what he found out, and whatddya know? Now it's "$9/ft and I think it's $5/ft for labor only".
My house is small, 1400 sq/ft but it's a split level, so 3 elevations. Somewhere around 200' of fascia boards. When I'm looking at a deductible from insurance of $1250, forking out another almost $2k was not what I had in mind. But I also don't want to have them put new gutters up on shitty boards.
Insurance as of right now has the total job at ~$26k for roof, siding, and gutters.
Guess in my mind I kinda figure hey, they're doing all of this other stuff, maybe replacing these boards isn't a huge task while everything else is happening, but alas, I'm not a roofer.
And for whatever it's worth, the company is a relatively large operation, has excellent reviews on google, and has done work for people I know (live nearby, we all got hit hard by hail last summer), who are happy with the work done.
Pic of my house from overhead incase it matters at all 😂

2024.05.20 05:48 EVRider81 Fuse box replacement NI

I have a 1980's ex council stock bungalow with a cartridge fuse box. Biggest fuse is 30A, Family sorted me an electric shower about 10 years back (7kW).The shower has since stopped working. I'd like a replacement, but am conscious of the fusebox being inadequate when replacements would now apparently pull up to 10kW - Do I need a new trip switch board, and is there a rough figure for the cost of one? TIA

2024.05.20 05:35 kratsynot42 Samsung lower freezer no long cold (RF28HFEDtsr/aa -2015)

Looking for a little advice. I've scoured videos and postings and tried many things. Lately the compressor seems to have gotten louder, at least during the first minute its on it (then it quiets up) and now the lower freezer doesn't seem to get cold at all (60 degree's reported on front panel). Upper fridge seems to still be reporting 34 and still seems cold though.
I've gone through ALL the troubleshooting steps, Cleaning out the back and removed all dust and debris from the condenser coils back there.
Checked the fan is working and blowing air onto the compressor. The compressor is only ever 'warm' when i touch it, never hot.
I took apart the lower freezer, and removed the back panel to find initially the evaporator coils only had frost at the very top (they now have none, its all melted off and the entire thing is completely bone dry after being plugged in for 2 days with of course the door being put back on).
The Fan does work just fine but its just blowing around warm air..
I ohm tested the thermometer and it is within spec (only off by a couple hundred, like 3%). I got a correct 64 ohm reading out of the 2 brown wires for the heating coil unit.
It appears to me that maybe no refrigerant is moving through this lower freezer area and not cooling, instead they are staying warm, almost room temp..
There has been no physical movement of the fridge. The only thing event was a 5 seconds brown out about a week ago.. (this fridge has lived through many power outages without any issue).
I took of the circuit board cover and the red light is solid, no blinking what-so-ever.
At This point I'm just curious, is this going to be a sealed system issue and I should just junk the fridge? I have no clue how much this would cost to fix but if its beyond about 400$ its probably just worth buying another fridge at that point and finally get out of samsungs clutches?
Any advice is appreciated.

2024.05.20 04:12 superboredest my 2 cents on tourniquets

First off: US doc board certified with no disclosures or conflict of interest here
Had to get on here to discuss a pet peeve of mine that I've seen come up over and over: tourniquets
I've never encountered a field medicine item with more controversy and misinformation circulating around it so maybe some of you will benefit from this.
In my humble opinion, and I say this as someone who's seen a good bit of tourniquet use in a controlled medical setting, for 99% of you these things are going to be useless tacticool garbage that's actually more likely to seriously injure or kill you.
Idk what your use case is for these, but unless you're regularly in live fire combat scenarios and can get near immediate high quality medical care, don't bother. Most bleeds don't require them, aka venous. Most wounds encountered in the field can easily be stopped with either regular or cauterizing gauze and pressure. Slapping a tourniquet on and leaving it on is just going to cost you an arm or leg. 6 hours max and that limb is dead. And unless you can get it amputated, so are you. That's assuming you even had it on right and tightened off properly, which most are probably not. In that sense, your stupidity might just save you from your own stupidity.
