2024.06.01 09:46 Similar_Knowledge895 One Piece: Aztec 5 suns myth Connections part 1 Revised (hopefully better)

Introduction

This is a Series of connections Comparing Influential characters in One Piece History to Important gods in the Aztec's 5 Suns creation myth and several aspects of the Myth to aspects of One Piece. I intend to explain what these connections could mean for history yet to be revealed to us in One Piece. I have already posted this, however, on one of the Subreddits that I posted the theory to got deleted. So I figured I would Remake it. I also figured due to the massive number of views compared to the lack of any movement up or down to the theory that many saw the massive block of text and chose to not read it. (I actually know this is possibly the case since 1 of the only comments I got on it was TLDR). So I’m going to split this series of connections up into 5 parts. (One for each of the 5 suns)
I will also divide each part into 3 portions: the Myth portion, The connections portion, and what it could mean to the story portion (TLDTheory). Since there will be so many Aztec Names I will mention the character that they influence in the story right after their name. This Means If you are Extremely familiar with One Piece you could just focus on the Myth Portion and get a General Gist of the Connections and Theory. If you're Just focused on the Connections and evidence and don't care about the myth you can read the Myth portion. And if You just want to know what I think this means for the Story you can focus on the Theory/TLDR portion.
Lastly These Series of connections are not meant to overwrite the Connections Oda has made to Characters in the story but to add to them. (I know Luffy is based on Hanuman, But it doesn’t mean he doesn’t represent the Aztecs 5th sun Nanahuatzin as Well) Great now that wall of text is done (Probably with no one reading it) Let’s Begin

Pre Creation (myth)

In Aztec mythology before the earth, suns, and people were created there were 2 Primordial gods that gave birth to the 4 Creator gods. The 4 Creator gods are known as the 4 Tezcatlipocas all divided into separate colors to distinguish them. The 4 Tezcatlipocas are Black Tezcatlipoca (Imu), White Quetzalcoatl (Nika), Blue Huitzilopochtli (No one known), and Red Xipe Totec (No one known). These 4 creators were tasked with creating the world. Before they created the world they had to deal with a vast never ending ocean and a massive Crocodile-like monster with many mouths known as Cipactli (Red Line). Cipactli (Red Line) would eat up anything that the 4 gods created. So the gods set a trap to defeat it. Tezcatlipoca (Imu) would dangle his leg in the water to drag the monster up to the surface while the 4 gods defeated it together. Tezcatlipoca (Imu) lost his leg in this incident.
It should Also be known that Cipactli (Red Line) was not killed but defeated with its flesh being shaped into the land. Cipactli (Red Line) was also satiated by sacrifice promised by the gods so it didn't awaken and destroy the world (That's why Aztec loved sacrifices).
Some Versions of the myth just have Tezcatlipoca (Imu) and Quetzalcoatl (Nika), being the only 2 creator gods and defeating Cipactli (Red Line).

First Sun (Myth)

Following the Fight against Cipactli (Red Line) The 4 Creator Gods Tezcatlipoca (Imu), Quetzalcoatl (Nika), Huitzilopochtli (No one known), and Xipe Totec (No one known) work on making the world, humanity, the 12 heavens, and many other gods. The versions of humans that the 4 gods created for the first world were larger than the modern day humans kind of like giants. These Humans liked to eat Acorns. Tezcatlipoca (Imu) then chose to become the Sun. This Sun during this first world was only a half sun giving off less light. (not clear whether it's because Tezcatlipoca (Imu) was a god of darkness or because of his injury). After 676 years (13 cycles of Aztecs 52 year calendar (Ironically split into 13 20-day months)) Tezcatlipoca (Imu), and Quetzalcoatl (Nika) developed a rivalry. Quetzalcoatl (Nika) then takes a club and knocks Tezcatlipoca (Imu) out of the sky. Tezcatlipoca (Imu) in anger then summon a hoard of Jaguars to kill all of the Larger humans. (In other Versions He just becomes a giant Jaguar instead of summing a bunch) Tezcatlipoca (Imu) is then forced to step down as the Sun.

Connections

Possible meaning for the story (Theory Time)

Out Takes (not important to myth or the One Piece Story)

I worked Extremely hard On this And although I wanted to Cut down the Massive block of text there were just so many things I wanted to mention that I didn't in the Previous post. I know it's not Likely that many actually read the whole thing, However if you got the gist of what the series of Connection could mean to the story of One Piece I'll be satisfied as I do believe that Everything mentioned Holds up. I intend to continue with the other 4 parts as soon as possible but like with this part there is so much more I want to add to each Part.
If you Guys have any feedback Good or negative please let me know in the comments. I hope to get this Theory spread out to more of the world. Sorry Again for the massive block of Text. Thanks again for reading it and giving it you time.
Once I have the others parts up I will place links at the bottom of this post to them.

Cerberus is the legendary and powerful three-headed hellhound who is the pet of the Greek God Hades. He guards the entrance of the Underworld in Greek Mythology, preventing souls from escaping as well as illegal entry into the afterlife. He is also said to have manes made of snakes with a snake's head for a tail in some depictions (Mine just has the snake tail), as well as sharp teeth, jaws and claws that can bite and rend through almost anything, he can also devour souls. - Black jaws of death: User in awakened beast or hybrid form disappears into a portal, they then summon multiple portals that they emerge with their multiple heads from, biting and tearing apart their opponent from all angles.
- Cerberion trio storm: User in awakened hybrid form creates multiple portals, then splits themselves into three and jumps from portal to portal while biting and slashing their enemies to pieces simultaneously.
- Black chain execution: User in awakened beast or hybrid form unleashes multiple chains from portals that impales opponents and rips them apart.
- Black chain binding: User in awakened beast or hybrid form unleashes multiple chains from portals that binds opponents and restrains them, making it easier for the user to kill them.
- Black chain lash out: User in awakened hybrid form splits themselves into three and unleashes multiple portals and from those portals multiple black chains that lash out, whipping and destroying everything in their vicinity.

6) Weapon techniques: Hybrid form wields dual chained hook blades (Hades reaper claws) that can slash and tear through almost anything, can be coated in venom, and also be enhanced with soul energy to rip souls from the bodies of enemies (Based on Claws of Hades weapons from God of War series) (Can be enhanced with haki)
Techniques:
- Soul reaper: User launches their chained hook blades at their opponents chests to rip the souls out of their enemies.
- Hook harpoon: User launches their chained hook blades at their opponents to impale them and drag their opponents closer for a follow up attack.
- Chained evisceration: User launches their chained hook blades at their opponents to impale them and rip their chest open.
- Cerberion head snatcher: User launches their chained hook blades to impale their targets head and yank their chains to rip their targets head clean off. (If this fails to impale and rip off opponents heads, opponents will still get slashed and cut by the hook blades)
- Cerberus chain cycle: User runs towards their enemies and spins their chained hook blades in dual arcs, slicing apart anyone caught up in this attack.
- Cerberus chain choke: User launches their chained hook blades at their opponents and wraps their chains around their opponents necks to strangle them to death.
- Cerberus chain slingshot: User launches their chained hook blades into the ground beside their opponent, the user then stretches the chains further back before jumping and slingshoting themselves towards their opponent at blinding speeds to send them flying or tear them in half.
- Savage ripper: User uses their multiple heads and jaws, and their chained hook blades to rip their opponents apart at close range.
- Hades venom cross: User coats their chained hook blades in venom and haki and unleashes a huge venomous cross slash onto their opponents to poison and slice them apart.
- Cerberus venom arcs: User coats their chained hook blades in venom and haki and unleashes multiple poison flying slashes that poisons and slices apart all in their wake.
Awakened Techniques:
- 12th labor: Cerberion Rage: User in awakened hybrid form creates multiple hell portals and quickly slashes their opponents from all angles with their haki-enhanced chained hook blades via the portals, before dashing towards them and finishing them off in a single almighty slash.
- Soul reaper cyclone: User in awakened hybrid form gathers a large amount of soul energy into their chained hook blades before spinning them rapidly to summon a large tornado of souls at their opponent to slice them apart and blow them away.
- Soul pack's revenge: User in awakened hybrid form splits into three, then slashes their opponents to death with their chained hook blades from multiple angles in varying combos.
- Claws of Hades: Frenzy: User in awakened hybrid form rapidly slashes their opponents apart with their chained hook blades at blinding speeds from a distance, not relenting until their target is dead.
- Claws of Hades: Titan's flash: User in awakened hybrid form gathers all their soul energy into their haki-enhanced chained hook blades before unleashing 4 gigantic arcs of black flying slashes that can carve and tear apart mountains.

Weaknesses:
Standard devil fruit weaknesses of being unable to swim and sea prism stone, as well as soul ripping not working well against strong-willed opponents.
User's keen senses of sight, smell and hearing can be countered by bright flashes of light, horrific odors and high pitched noises.
User in full beast form is particularly aggressive and bloodthirsty, making them hard to reason with once they go on a killing spree in beast form.
User in their awakened form becomes extremely violent, ferocious and even more aggressive, becoming a threat to both allies and enemies alike, after their awakened state ends, user becomes tired and exhausted.
User can only split to three individuals in their awakened form, after awakening state is done user forms back into one unit, when split into three all users speed increases but their power decreases.
User's soul constructs will disappear if hit by a powerful attack, user has limits as to how long they can summon souls for as it is tiring.
User's summoned black chains can still be destroyed by strong opponents.
User cannot use certain powerful finishing moves twice in a row as they take up energy to do so.
User's heads can still grow back if cut off but takes up lots of stamina to do so.
User can still be hurt and injured by powerful haki-enhanced attacks.

2024.06.01 05:15 Super_Dupers Suggestions/ideas for Public domain(Copyright free) Kaiju to add to gigabash

Believe it or not, there is a very large slew of kaiju or giant monsters in the public domain that could be used for Gigabash's original roster since they do not strictly require copyright permits due to either lapsing in copyright or being of long natural folklore and mythology.

Bonus:
The Retrosaur lineages of TyrantisTerror: Tyrantis terror (a kaiju artist with his own website and novella) has fully offered up their basic lineages of the giant dinosaur kaiju "retrosaurs" into the public domain, since they are technical blankish templates inloosely following into the kaiju he owns (also, its possible for people to willingly put things they own whether copyrighted or intellectual property into the public domain). The retrosaur lineage templates (a whopping 16!) up for grabs include: Transitional tyrant, Primitive Carnivorous retrosaur, Primitive herbivorous retrosaur, True tyrant, Tiny tyrant, Egg theif, Flying tyrants, Long-necked sea tyrant, Long tailed sea tyrant, Short-tailed sea tyrant, Long necked goliath, Duck-billed goliath, Helmeted goliath, Spike-tailed goliath, Club-tailed goliath, and Horned goliath.

2024.05.31 15:13 STill_Tamil Who is Imu🌑 in One Piece?🗺️

https://yt.openinapp.co/7rsrx
Life of Nerona Imu in One Piece தமிழ் - STill Tamil
Imu: The Shadow Sovereign of the World Government
Imu stands as the enigmatic and clandestine supreme ruler of the World Government in the One Piece universe. Residing in the majestic Pangaea Castle at Mary Geoise, Imu's identity is a closely guarded secret, known only to the highest echelons of power—the Five Elders. This secrecy is vital in maintaining the facade that no single person holds dominion over the world, thus preserving a delicate balance among the allied nations.

Possible Devil Fruits

Earth God Devil Fruit

One possibility is that Imu possesses an Earth God Devil Fruit. This hypothesis is supported by the green and earthen tones often associated with Imu’s appearances, suggesting a connection to the earth. In the broader mythological framework of One Piece, where Luffy is the Sun God and other characters like Admiral Ryokugyu (Green Bull) are associated with nature (Forest God), it is conceivable that Imu embodies the Earth God. The Five Elders could be symbolically linked to the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, which revolve around the Earth, metaphorically placing Imu at the center of their universe.

Water-Water Devil Fruit

Another intriguing possibility is that Imu possesses a Water-Water Devil Fruit, also known as the Mizu Mizu no Mi or Aqua Aqua Fruit. This would grant control over water, a unique and potentially overpowering ability in the One Piece world. If such a fruit exists, it would grant Imu unparalleled control over one of the most fundamental elements, which is especially significant given the inherent weakness of Devil Fruit users to water.
"In the One Piece world, water is a weakness to Devil Fruit users. We haven't seen any Logia awakenings in the story until now. I believe if a Logia Devil Fruit awakens, it influences the people or things who come into contact with that Logia element. Thus, Imu makes every Devil Fruit user's weakness water."
This theory supports the idea that a Logia awakening could extend the fruit's influence, thereby exploiting the inherent weakness of other Devil Fruit users.

Sea Devil Fruit

A third possibility is that Imu possesses the Sea Devil Fruit, or Umi Umi no Mi. This theory draws a parallel between Luffy's Sun God Nika Fruit and a potential Sea Devil Fruit, emphasizing the opposition between the sun and the sea. Just as the sun is associated with fire, the sea is associated with water. Luffy's goal to liberate people contrasts with Imu's desire to rule and control, reflecting the opposing natures of a god and a demon.
"Luffy's motto or mindset is to free or liberate, whereas Imu's is to form a government and rule, like a realm. The third possibility is the Sea Devil Fruit, which is also foreshadowed by Oda at the start of the series. Luffy was struck in the water and trapped by a local sea monster in Foosha Village, and Shanks saved him. Now, it is speculated that Dragon may save him."

Human-Human Fruit, Model: Devil

The last possibility is that Imu possesses the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Devil. This idea complements the theme of opposites in One Piece. While Luffy's Devil Fruit, the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika, embodies the Sun God who aims to liberate, Imu's potential fruit could represent the antithesis—a Devil seeking to dominate and control. This would align with the Five Elders, who are believed to possess demonic Zoan fruits. Mary Geoise, often referred to as the "Holy Land," being ruled by such demonic entities, further supports the notion that Imu could be the ultimate demon in disguise.
"Mary Geoise is called the Holy Land but is ruled and controlled by demons like the Five Elders and Imu. So, Imu may possess the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Devil, just like the opposite to Luffy's Devil, the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika."

Appearance

Imu's true appearance remains shrouded in mystery, with only shadowy silhouettes revealed so far. They possess a humanoid figure with striking, almond-shaped eyes featuring red irises, each circled by a thin ring. Imu's attire is both regal and ominous—a crown adorned with four tall, sharp spikes and a long, flowing robe that extends dramatically behind them.

Personality

While much about Imu's personality remains unknown, certain traits and behaviors provide glimpses into their character. Imu has shown a particular interest in key figures such as Monkey D. Luffy, Marshall D. Teach, Shirahoshi, and Nefertari Vivi, often seen with their photographs or wanted posters. Despite a calm and serene exterior, Imu's actions reveal a ruthless and calculating nature. Unlike the more cautious Five Elders, Imu does not hesitate to order mass destruction to protect their secrets, as demonstrated by the annihilation of the Lulusia Kingdom.

Abilities and Powers

Imu's authority within the World Government is absolute, commanding the actions of the Five Elders and deploying devastating weapons like the "Mother Flame." This weapon of mass destruction, developed by Dr. Vegapunk, can obliterate entire islands in moments. Additionally, Imu possesses transformative abilities, allowing them to assume a massive, bestial form capable of consuming fire and wielding sharp, impaling tentacles.

Relationships

Key Events

Imu's secretive rule and immense power position them as a central antagonist in the One Piece narrative. Their influence and actions shape the political and historical landscape of the world, making Imu a pivotal figure in the unfolding saga. With the potential power of an Earth God, Water-Water, Sea Devil, or Human-Human Fruit, Model: Devil, Imu's capabilities add an even more formidable dimension to their character, promising significant developments in the series' climactic arcs.

2024.05.31 14:43 The_thundergnome Hoping this piques some interest

I am currently in the process of writing some stories and have come up with a plan for the overall plot for each book. My idea is to have standalone stories (I have 3 in the works) which will each be either a trilogy or duology. I've begun to incorporate some main characters from separate books into the others, following parallel storylines, taking place in the same realm(s) and basically weaving information and events across book sets. I intend to have a single book as the end/conclusion of each of the standalone stories, which will be able to be read in any order (of sets, not individual books).
Think of the "final book" as a fat tree, this tree has 3 different branches but some of the leaves intermingle with other leaves from a separate branch.
Each separate story holds a dark romance line with MMC and FMC. Graphic subjects of violence, trauma (mental and physical), inprisonment, enslavent, fated mate bonds, magic, goddesses and realms/dimensions are depicted throughout each book. One story follows werewolf MCs with witches as supporting characters and vampires being depicted as enemies. Another story follows enslaved demons, fallen angels, a woman who believes herself to be human (goddess on a technicality) and witches are depicted as enemies. The third story follows elves/fae (in my creation they're the same race, they prefer elves though humans gave the "bad" ones the fae title) with royalty, prison, experimental abuse with vampires and witches being the enemies.
I have some nods to mythology and religion with certain characters for plot information/inspiration. I don't want to reveal any specifics for now until I get further along in writing (slightly irrational fear someone somewhere will steal my work for their own), but the final book will reveal the true enemy behind the chaos of all the separate stories and pulls the MCs together to use each other's strengths and abilities cohesively.
Please ask questions! I haven't spoken about this to anyone yet, I'm becoming quite passionate with what I've been writing and I'm beyond excited to finish a book completely and send it out into the world. Does this seem too messy? Would it catch attention once people realize the separate trilogy/duology connects? Would it be better to just make it a multi-book series instead?
Thank you for taking time to sit here and read my rambles and an even bigger thank you for any responses.

2024.05.30 18:11 Burrunguy This is not the first time DW has been a supernatural show.

I'm surprised this doesn't get brought up more often, but the Sylvester McCoy era saw Doctor Who become a science fantasy show. From Dragonfire on almost every story has a supernatural twist or creature.
Dragonfire, obviously Dragon.
Remembrance of the Daleks, well this is a bit more loose, but the Hand of Omega certainly has a somewhat ghostly aspect to it the way it's buried in a graveyard, takes the form of a sarcophagus and almost seems to rise from the dead, at least visually etc.
Silver Nemesis, this is when the supernatural theme really kicks in. We have a full on witch travel to the future through magic.
The Greatest Show in The Galaxy, the villains are evil gods that capture life forms and force them to entertain them, and one of the creatures is a Werewolf. Also the evil Circus motif and evil clowns is again something we tend to see pop up in horror and fantasy more often.
Battlefied, Witches, Demons, Arthurian mythology.
Ghostlight, haunted house, also Light is an Angelic creature who represents the debate of creation myths vs evolution.
The Curse of Fenric, vampires and an ancient Demon, plus Norse mythology.
Survival, the planet essentially possesses people and preys on and brings out their darker urges like a demon, whilst the idea of people turning into animals, and linking the feminine with felines, and having the supernatural be a way for a woman to break free and explore her sexuality are all hallmarks of fantasy stories.
I might add that the McCoy era was also somewhat ahead of its time too, in that a lot of the supernatural tropes it explored would become common place in genre shows throughout the 90s/00s such as Buffy, Angel, Xena etc. I'm not saying any of them were inspired by DW, but it shows you how the show wasn't out of date, ironically it maybe reached what would become the dominant type of genre tv, supernatural, teen focused, more feminine etc, a bit too early as in between McCoy and Xena/Buffy, there would be another generation of Star Trek series and other sci fi with things like Babylon 5.
The Doctor and Ace are very like Buffy and Giles. Older, stern, manipulative, mysterious, British, professorial father figure who serves as a mentor to a young, troubled, tear away teenage girl whose destiny has been decided by an ancient supernatural power (one who that is connected with vampires) and whilst teenage girls were normally seen as slasher, monster victims, she bucks the trend by being a badass who beats up monsters that women screamed at before, Daleks, vampires etc.
Also the demons in Battlefield is very similar to later things like Buffy and Event Horizon. In all three, hell isn't a place where damned souls go. It is instead another universe that has different natural laws to ours, making these creatures from our point of view supernatural, and from our perspective is a hellish place.
Also like I said using the supernatural to explore femininity and lesbian relationships, by presenting the supernatural as giving them the power to feel liberated is something we'd see in characters like Willow and Tara. (It was also a way of showing LGBT relationships back then when the censors were too strong.)
McCoy era Who looks like it should be a late 90s, early 00s American genre show at times LOL, which is even more ironic as they would go on to inspire new who.
Where the McCoy era is different (and in my opinion ultimately superior to the current era.) Is that it left the supernatural aspects open ended. IE was Fenric actually a demon or a funky alien? Same with Light, he can be seen as a weird creature from another dimension, or is that dimension a heavenly one?
At times it even blurs the lines like Battlefield. Is the Destroyer a supernatural creature or an alien, or are both distinctions pointless? Technically the Destroyer IS supernatural as he operates outside of the natural laws of our universe. That's not the same as Clarke's Law which is just where advanced technology is mistaken for magic, but the technology still operates within the natural laws of the universe, where as a creature like the Destroyer doesn't. By this logic you could also argue that the Demons in Buffy are aliens as they are creatures from other worlds in other realities.
The supernatural in Doctor Who for me should be left open ended, as whilst it does have a surrealist aspect that can allow you to dabble in the supernatural, it is still firmly sci fi. I also like the idea that the DW universe is so big, so unknown that the Doctor will come across things he genuinely never finds the answer to and approaches the idea of the paranormal with an open mind as it's a relative term to him.
I personally don't like giving the supernatural an explanation "it all comes from him spilling salt at the end of the universe" I think that makes it more mundane and also makes it clash with the sci fi of the show too.
Still what do you think?

2024.05.30 17:07 ghhostr Ei and Makoto are kitsunes?

The Archon War was a battle between gods that began more than 3,700 years ago, for each of the seven divine seats on Celestia, and in Inazuma it was won by the twin sisters Ei and Makoto.
Unlike other known archons such as Morax or Barbatos, the original form of the goddesses of eternity is not literally revealed to us, so we must investigate further to deduce it.
The two archons mentioned above are based on shape-shifting entities in the respective folklore and mythology of their own culture, so it makes sense that the twin goddesses would also be based on a mythological entity, the kitsune.
The moment we first arrive in the lands of Inazuma, we are greeted by the statue of a kitsune with the characteristic wheel and divine symbol of the Electro Archon, which can be seen in her statue of the Seven and in the playable character, which is not present in any other statue, therefore we can safely assume that it is none other than a representation of the Raiden Shogun herself.
Despite the lack of evidence, it makes a lot of sense, as does the original form of Morax, who is a dragon, or that of Barbatos, who is a wind spirit, the kitsune statue with the wheel symbol of the Archon Electro, is actually the original form of both sisters.
The goddesses of eternity could be based on "Inari", who is the Japanese deity of agriculture, rice, foxes, usually represented as a female deity, in the form of a fox and sometimes as a set of three or more deities.
Similar to what happens in Inazuma, for the people there were not three (Ei, Makoto and the Raiden Shogun), but a single goddess whom they worshiped, and it is understood that the title of Raiden Shigun is used to refer to all they.
The god Inari is also sometimes represented as a fox, since the kitsunes are closely associated with him, both as messengers or servants of him. The foxes of Inari are known as kitsune tenkū, which literally means "Celestial/Sky Fox", these kitsunes have the interest of helping and protecting human beings, they are attributed purifying powers that allow them to expel ghosts or demons, and they usually decide to adopt a mortal life by transforming into humans, getting married and having children with them.
Both Ei and Makoto have always been strongly associated with other kitsunes known in the game such as Yae Miko and Kitsune Saiguu, who are in charge of purifying and managing the Great Narukami Shrine, faithful servants and messengers of the Electro Archon, being a clear reference to the god Inari.
The description of the "Sky Kitsune Statue: Hakushin's Legacy" says that these statues have the power to purify evil spirits, which completely fits with the celestial foxes of Inari, in this case, the Raiden Shogun.
Thanks to the book "Toki Alley Tales" it is known that the war between kitsunes and tanuki resulted in humans being born in inazuma because some of them changed so much that they forgot who they were, humans were called the product of bewildered youkais, specifically a quality of the Inari foxes or the Raiden Shogun.
It is repeatedly said that the Sacred Sakura is a tree that is meant to be a representation of the divine protection and power of the Electro Archon over the land, an extension of Narukami herself, along with the fact that the tree always is in eternal bloom.
In her voice line about interesting things, Ei mentions that Makoto's body may have perished, but she became the Sacred Sakura, this coincides with the fox form the tree took on after Makoto's death. and that her spirit will merge with him, since in the scenes where we can see her alive, the tree does not yet have the shape of a fox.
Another thing that may support this theory is that foxes sometimes hunt and eat snakes, and apparently, Ei killed the snake god Orobashi. Also that the nine-tailed foxes have the ability to see and hear any event that occurs in the world, this agrees with the omnipresence of Ei (being a goddess at least 5000 years old, it is obvious that she would already have the 9 tails).
This is my analysis of the reasons why I think Ei and Makoto are kitsunes, I know my theory may sound a little crazy, but if you think about it it makes sense. Remember that Hyv loves these types of references, so I may be right, if you have any doubts about it you can leave it in comments.

2024.05.30 16:46 RagaJunglism Raga myths and tales: retelling the most intriguing stories from North Indian musical history. Collected below: brief tales for the fire-bringing Deepak, the rain-summoning Megh, Malkauns (composed to soothe Shiva's rage), Bilaskhani Todi (created by accident at his father's funeral), & more

While putting together my index of North Indian raga, I’ve inevitably collected plenty of fascinating myths and tales from raga history. Also, I’d love to hear your favourite versions (often, there are several variants of the story) - as well as personal reflections on the meaning of these tales in the modern age. Here are my retellings:
Malkauns: “Hindu lore tells of how the raga was composed to soothe Lord Shiva’s rage. His mortal-born wife, Princess Sati, had renounced the trappings of the material world for Shiva’s love, displeasing her father, King Daksha – who eventually fell into a fit of fury, insulting his daughter and berating Shiva’s character (“a vagrant, who has neither commitments nor a sense of values in life…one who roams about in dreadful cemeteries, attended by hosts of ghosts and sprites; like a madman, naked, with dishevelled hair, wearing a garland of skulls and ornaments of bones…the lowest of the gods”).
Sati, in turn, became consumed by her own anger, taking on the form of the supreme goddess Adi Parashakti. Storms broke as her earthly body burst into flames, disintegrating under the weight of the deity’s infinite power. On learning of his wife’s death, Shiva was distraught, and flew into a wild rage – placing Sati’s charred corpse on his shoulders and throwing two locks of hair to the ground, which sprung up to form the Manibhadra: many-armed warrior spirits who wielded swords, tridents, and cleavers in their murderous quest. They became lost in an unending tandav (‘destruction dance’) – decapitating the king, slaughtering his entourage, and roaming the globe in search of further vengeance.
Shiva’s unrelenting fury disturbed his fellow gods, who implored Vishnu (the ‘preserver’) to help. Quickly persuaded by the unfolding destruction, Vishnu decided to send Sati’s spirit back to earth – reincarnating her as Parvati (Sanskrit: ‘Daughter of the Mountain’). She sought out Shiva, purifying her soul by chanting and meditating naked in the harsh outdoors – and eventually finding him in the depths of the forest. It is said that Parvati first unveiled the raga’s melodic turns as they wandered in the mountains, naming it Mal-Kaushik (‘he who wears serpents as garlands’: in reference to a notorious habit of Shiva’s). The music calmed his mind, succeeding where all else had failed – and soon after, the couple reinstated their eternal marital bonds. At the behest of his wife, Shiva took mercy on his vanquished foes, resurrecting those who he had slain and even reinstating the King to his throne (…albeit while replacing his de-severed head with that of a sacrificial goat)...”
Lanka Dahan Sarang: “The name ‘Lanka Dahan’ refers to a famous tale from the Ramayana. As per Rajeev Taranath’s preface to a recital of the raga: “Ravana’s demonic horde set fire to Lord Hanuman’s tail; and the Monkey God sent the entire city of Lanka up in flames with it. But Rama’s consort Sita, an avatar of Lakshmi, was also being held captive there. Hanuman became worried about her safety, and in that poignant state of mind, the ‘Monkey Grammarian’ created a raga called Lanka Dahan [‘the burning of Lanka’] to console himself...” (depicted in this painting)...”
Deepak/Megh: “Strictly speaking, Deepak is a ‘lost raga’, known to us through its status as Miyan Tansen’s fabled fire-bringing melody – said to have sparked uncontrollable blazes when he sung it at Emperor Akbar’s 16th-century royal palace (…and requiring a special rendition of Megh to extinguish it)...”
“Among the oldest surviving members of the Malhar family, Megh (literally: ‘Cloud’) is said to have saved the life of the great Miyan Tansen himself. Legend holds that Tansen’s performance of the fire-bringing Deepak caused all the oil lamps in Emperor Akbar’s 16th-century royal palace to ignite and burn uncontrollably – and, soon, all the rivers and streams around the durbar began to boil and spill over their banks. Tansen’s efforts to quench the unending firestorm came to nothing, until, eventually, he came across two sisters – Tana and Riri – who sung Megh with enough power to summon a great storm, finally extinguishing the blaze (n.b. some tellings instead describe ‘an unbearable, unrelenting burning sensation on Tansen’s skin’ as the cause of his post-Deepak quest, and other versions recount that it was his daughter who sung Megh to save him)...”
Chandranandan [n.b. not really a myth, just a strange origin tale]: “Chandranandan (‘Moonstruck’) is a modern classic, created by Ali Akbar Khan in a spare studio moment, via spontaneously blending concepts from the Kaunsi family (“Three minutes and it was finished…They asked me for the name, but I never thought of the name, I never thought about the notes. I just thought of my father and played…”). The recording sold wildly – but, when audiences called out for the raga, he found he had forgotten how to play it (“I told them I’d forgotten which notes I used, and needed time…I had to buy the record and listen for six months”). The Ustad‘s paradox-laden path of rediscovery is a truly curious tale, shining light onto his nuanced, multifaceted view of raga itself – encompassing everything from mythological visions and ancient rasa theory to metaphors of chess [n.b. the full story is fascinating but very detailed: thankfully, Khansaab’s son Alam sent me a load of invaluable information from the family archives...]
Bilaskhani Todi: “Bilas Khan, son of Tansen, the great musicologist and composer of Akbar’s royal court – is said to have first sung it at his father’s funeral wake, held in the late 16th century and attended by the Emperor himself. Inevitably, the details of the story vary depending on whom you ask. To collate a few common tellings: Bilas stepped forth from the hushed crowd of mourners, standing alone by the sarcophagus. Closing his eyes, he drew a slow breath, and began to sing Todi – a famous creation of his father’s – but found himself so grief-stricken that he mixed up the notes, coming out with a different melody by mistake.
At first he was mortified – such public incompetence, and on such an occasion too! Had he inherited nothing from the man they had gathered to honour – one of the Navarasa (‘nine jewels’) of Akbar’s Empire? However, on opening his eyes, Bilas mind was set to rest – as he and the gathered mourners witnessed Tansen’s corpse slowly raise up his right hand, signifying his approval of the new melody. This brief wave was to be the great guru’s final action in this earthly realm...
Further details are often included, variously fleshing out Bilas’ backstory. Some add a satisfyingly redemptive arc, recounting that Bilas had long been a disappointment to his famous father, who compared his talents unfavourably to those of his elder brothers – even disowning him for his inability to represent the essences of the family craft (or alternatively, because he had become a Sufi). In these tellings, the younger man’s dramatic graveside performance helped to unravel decades of darkness and personal shame, allowing him to prove his worth to the great patriarch, who finally heralded his accomplishments in the very last moments they shared together in this world (…in raga mythology, the sudden apparition of the living dead can be a reassuring, heartwarming narrative turn).
Some variants take a different tack, crediting Bilas with more deliberate modes of creative accomplishment. According to some, Tansen had not named a successor by the time of his death, instead issuing a challenge: the next Khalifa (leader) would be ‘whichever of his sons could blend the movements of Todi with the swaras of Bhairavi‘, creating a new hybrid raga that was distinct from both its parents. Bilas, long unfavoured by the critics, beat the odds, becoming the first to solve the puzzle. However, his breakthrough moments were soon followed by the arrival of a horseman from Gwalior, bearing news of his father’s sudden death. Heartbroken, he unveiled his creation at the wake anyway – never expecting to receive the acclaim of the dead as well as the living. Or, that of nature itself: some say he scorched the graveside earth with the swooping passion of his lamentations, calling on elemental forces to pay their respects to his father...”

2024.05.30 16:39 RagaJunglism Raga myths and tales: retelling the most intriguing stories from North Indian musical history. Collected below: brief tales for the fire-bringing Deepak, the rain-summoning Megh, Malkauns (composed to soothe Shiva's rage), Bilaskhani Todi (created by accident at a funeral) & more

While putting together my index of North Indian raga, I’ve inevitably collected plenty of fascinating myths and tales from raga history. A friend suggested that I share them in this sub, so here they are...hope you find joy from them
Malkauns: “Hindu lore tells of how the raga was composed to soothe Lord Shiva’s rage.
While putting together my raga index, I’ve collected plenty of myths and tales from raga history...so I thought I’d collate the best and share them here. Also, I’d love to hear your favourite versions of these tales (often, there are several variants of the story) - as well as personal reflections on the meaning of these tales in the modern era. 2024.05.30 07:51 TheeBlackDeath The Greatest Total War Game That Hasn't Been Made, Yet.....

The Greatest Total War Game That Hasn't Been Made, Yet.....
Conan: Total War, or Hyboria: Total War
This has been somewhat of an obscure yet much desired idea for the Total War series for awhile now among so many, so I figured due to the recent discussion of future upcoming Total War-style games coming down the road that I'd bring light to this idea being too perfect not to mention here, as I'd like to bring attention to a series the Total War series hasn't touched yet but definitely has to at some point in the future... Conan The Barbarian.
Conan The Barbarian is the low fantasy pseudo-historical sword & sorcery pulp fiction series known for it's movies and comics, along with it's games, that is set within the fictional antediluvian era of the Hyborian Age that is placed around the time of 10,000 BC of our own history, a setting that takes note from the bronze and medieval ages of history with hints of prehistoric and mythological cultures thrown in. You basically almost have it all, Egyptian-esque cultures, Greek-esque cultures, medieval France and Germany, hell even medieval Spain, the mythical Hyperborea, the Norse before they became ship faring raiders, Native American-inspired Picts, and of course the scottish Cimmerians that later turn into the historical Cimmerians of our own history. This series is quite possibly the best series for those who like historical settings but also like or don't mind some elements of fantasy or mythology, while still primarily being grounded in reality and believability, you won't exactly have Elves & Dwarves or magic schools of wizards and the like, but you will have bloodthirsty monsters and demons of all kinds, evil cults or cabals of dark sorcerers, and even otherworldly eldritch entities from the Outer Dark as the series is linked to the Lovecraft mythos quite heavily. While you won't have access to full rosters of monsters and beasts(except maybe if you mod the game), given the pseudo-historical setting and all, some factions will have access to fantasy-esque units like undead minions or captive beasts of war, of both the natural and unnatural kind, with a lot of the unnatural variety typically requiring you to prepare and perform rituals to recruit or summon said monsters. Just imagine a sorcerer hero or lord like in TW:Warhammer summoning a giant serpent or scorpion from the very sand to flank a unit of archers or break a group of charging footsoldiers, if not just creating a violent sandstorm via sorcery to demoralize and break them and have your group of exotic zorse cavalry clear the battlefield of fleeing survivors afterwards.
If you need a reference for how this game idea would be like, imagine something like an advanced and better version of Total War Rome 2 or Total War Attila with the slight or minimal addition of some monsters or lovecraft with sorcery thrown in for flavor, you could almost even say it'd be like a more beefy version of Total War Troy - Mythos with a much much larger map with a ton more factions, and with slight elements from the Total War Warhammer games thrown in. With this game you'd basically have almost all factions around the world from ancient and medieval times like ancient china or egypt or rome, with exception to the Americas I guess, thrown in together across this large playing field that surpasses Warhammer 3's map itself in scale and versatility, and puts what they've been doing with Three Kingdoms/Troy/Pharaoh to shame.
This idea has been in my head for awhile and even among a few others who happen to know of the series that happen to see the vast potential, with this game basically being free money for the creators of Total War series with how easily they can make this work, so I figured I'd raise further awareness of it and if they ever stop making Total War Warhammer content or similar historical settings then this'll be the next step and possibly the best step for the Total War series, as it literally has it all for historical and fantasy fans alike. I seriously hope someday this idea gains traction somehow as this series is criminally underrated in terms of adaptation and attention, after all we wouldn't have LOTR or GoT/ASOIAF if not for the works of Robert E Howard, and this exact setting has been DYING for a game adaptation quite like this. At this point I feel like our best bet so far is for a massive total conversion or overhaul mod for Attila or Rome 2 set in the world of Hyboria, unless we're lucky to have this game idea be heard and acknowledged someday, as it truly is the perfect blend of historical and fantasy to make everyone happy to be completely honest. But with that said, I can only see casuals or just fake Total War fans not really getting or understanding anything that's been said here and just blindly not liking any ideas just for the sake of not liking it, while not even considering anything good that could come out of it. These same people that'll actively break the rules of this subreddit by downvoting content they don't agree without any real reason to, and wish to prevent any and all dialogue about anything they don't deem as acceptable or right in their eyes I guess. But hey that's Reddit for you I guess.
Feel free to share your thoughts on this idea but be constructive and on topic if you can, because I want to keep this on topic and bring about attention to this idea as this is something that should be discussed considering the current topic of future Total War games.

2024.05.30 03:41 Smurphilicious She Who Knows All Names

Stumbled into a familiar story the other day and wanted to share. I've written theory posts about Osiris and Set and all of that in the past, but there's multiple versions of the Osiris myth. Additionally my focus would always get bogged down with Horus and Thoth (for good reason, Thoth's other names include Jehuti, Jehuty, Tahuti, Tehuti, Zehuti, Techu, or Tetu, along with titles like 'Thoth the Thrice Great' but I digress)
So this time I'm just going to present the version of the Osiris myth that Bob Brier uses in 'The Great Courses: The History of Ancient Egypt' and I'll just splice in relevant KKC quotes.

Atum creates the other gods, the gods that interact with earth. He is called 'The Self-Created God'
“I am not Menda, though that is what my mother called me. I am Tehlu, lord above all. I have come to free you from demons and the wickedness of your own hearts. I am Tehlu, son of myself. Let the wicked hear my voice and tremble.”
Then Atum, by himself, has two children. Now what's going to happen is Atum is going to lead to a total of eight gods, Atum plus the eight are called "The Nine", (The Ennead)
None but the most powerful can see them, and only then with great difficulty and at great peril. They mete out justice to the world, and Tehlu is the greatest of them all—”
Who are his two children? Shu (Air) and Tefnut (moisture)... next they have two children, Geb (earth) and Nut (sky). They then give birth to four gods who are central to Egyptian mythology. Osiris, Ist, Set, and Nepthys.
Now Ist and Osiris are the good guys, their sister Nepthys also. But Set is the archetype of the devil, only trying to do harm.
Now according to the myth, Ist and Osiris come down to earth to bring civilization to the Nile, and Osiris goes away to teach civilization to the rest of the world.
“The first Adem school was not a school that taught sword-work. Surprisingly, it was founded by a man named Aethe who sought mastery over the arrow and the bow.” (Bringing civilization to the barbarians)
While Osiris is away conquering, Set tries to do horrible things to Egypt. Fortunately, Ist is very powerful, she is the goddess of magic. She is called 'She Who Knows All Names'
Auri sat on a wide brick chimney, waiting for me. She wore the dress I had bought her and swung her bare feet idly as she looked up at the stars. Her hair was so fine and light that it made a halo around her head, drifting on the faintest whisper of a breeze.
If you wanted to create a spell against someone, you needed to know their Name... So Ist who is powerful keeps her brother Set in check. Then Osiris returns, having civilized other countries.
Now Set was always scheming. While his brother Osiris is sleeping, Set takes his measurements, and Set builds a wooden chest to the exact proportions of Osiris. At a banquet Set offers a prize for anyone who can fit in the chest exactly, all the guests try it, and finally Osiris gets in the chest. Set quickly slams the chest shut, pours molten lead over it, and throws it into the Nile. Osiris dies in the chest.
And Jax brought out the black iron box, closing the lid and catching her name inside.
The chest is carried out to the Mediterranean and the chest then washes ashore to Lebanon. A great storm blows the chest into the branches of a tree. The tree grows to tremendous proportions, encompassing the chest in the trunk of the tree.
It was no type of tree I had ever seen before, and I approached it slowly. It resembled a vast spreading willow, with broader leaves of a darker green. The tree had deep, hanging foliage scattered with pale, powder-blue blossoms.
The King wants to build a palace, so he cuts down large trees for pillars and Osiris' tree is cut down and becomes a pillar in the palace (with Osiris still inside). Ist eventually finds out where Osiris' body is, and she recovers his body for proper burial.
Set then finds the properly buried body of Osiris, and divides him into thirteen pieces and scatters them along the Nile. Ist finds the pieces with the help of her sister Nepthys.
“To ash all things return, so too this flesh will burn. But I am Tehlu. Son of myself. Father of myself. I was before, and I will be after. If I am a sacrifice then it is to myself alone. And if I am needed and called in the proper ways then I will come again to judge and punish.”
After reassembling the pieces, She Who Knows All Names takes the form of a great bird above her husband's body...
In my delirium, I imagined death in the form of a great bird with wings of fire and shadow. It hovered above, watching patiently, waiting for me….
I slept, and the great bird settled its burning wings around me. I imagined a delicious warmth. Then its claws were in me, tearing me open—
Lady of Twilight. Lady of the First Quiet. Felurian, who is death to men...
Her smile was fierce and full. She was as lovely as the moon. Her power hung about her like a mantle. It shook the air. It spread behind her like a pair of vast and unseen wings.
... and Ist breathes life into Osiris. Osiris becomes the first person to ever resurrect, and being resurrected, he becomes the god of the Dead.
Her mouth met mine, and she drew a long slow breath, pulling the air out of me. I felt my head grow light. Then, her lips still tight against mine, Felurian pushed her breath hard into me, filling my lungs. It was softer than silent. It tasted of honeysuckle. The ground shivered beneath me and everything was still. For an endless moment my heart ceased beating in my chest.
Felurian pulled her mouth from mine and my heart thumped again, sudden and hard. A second beat. A third. I pulled in a deep, shaking breath.
“Lanre and Lyra!” they shouted, their voices like thunder. “Our lord’s love is stronger than death! Our lady’s voice has called him back! Together they have beaten death! Together, how can we help but be victorious?”

Asuras holds Naga rope, the South Gate of Angkor Thom
Angkor Thom or Big city built in late 12 century by Great Khmer king Jay VII. The motivation of the Hindu mythology “ the churning of the ocean of milk “ the 54 gods(Devas) and 54 demons(Asuras) alter Naga rope, putting it encircle the Mandara mountain and then spin to churning up the milk ocean to extract from it the elixir of immortality.

2024.05.29 22:57 Ninjalicious7023 Theory: Jason Voorhees is a Cambion, and his real father is an Incubus

(I’m reposting this from fridaythe13th as I’m curious to see what you guys think of this.)
After listening to the Pamela Tapes in Friday the 13th: The Game, Pamela states to police that Elias Voorhees was not Jason’s real father after all. Instead, she was forced upon by an unknown man. A man that was only described as strong and with “hatred in his eyes”. Pamela becomes pregnant from this event, eventually giving birth to a child with severe facial (and presumably mental) deformities. Since then, she became paranoid and fearful of this man, afraid that he might come back to take Jason away from her, which is why she marries Elias in the first place so he can protect them from him.
Even though she doesn’t state how old he was in the tapes, Pamela said that Jason told her to kill Elias because he was a threat to the both of them. In the comic miniseries Friday the 13th: Pamela’s Tale, it shows that she killed Elias while she was still pregnant with Jason, claiming that she heard his voice telling him to do it. Whether or not she actually heard him say that or she’s just completely insane is totally ambiguous, and it’s also unclear as to whether or not the Pamela Tapes and the comic miniseries are even connected. But let’s assume that they are, and they are also both canon to the overall Friday the 13th mythos.
As a person who studied European/Celtic folklore, I couldn’t help but notice some striking parallels between Jason and a mythical creature known as a cambion.
For those who may not be familiar with Celtic mythology, a cambion is an offspring between a human woman and an incubus. Cambion’s are often born disfigured and grotesque looking, and grow up to become outcasts by society. However, they are also born with supernatural powers and abilities, such as the ability to shape-shift, to predict the future, and interestingly, immortality and the ability to speak fluently as a newborn. Some legends also state that they can speak to their mothers from the womb.
There are also some legends that incubi return for their cambion offspring when they become of a certain age, usually to teach them new things. I thought this was super interesting since again, according to the Pamela Tapes, Pamela was afraid that this mysterious man, who is Jason’s real father, would try and come back to take him away. What’s even more peculiar is that it’s never outright stated that Pamela ever witnessed her son’s drowning, but is assumed to have been what happened. Who’s to say that this mysterious man didn’t abduct Jason, whether he saved him from drowning or just simply took him without anyone noticing?
After noticing all these parallels, I also couldn’t help but notice some loose similarities between Jason and another legendary cambion that many of you might have heard about before: Merlin.
Yes, THAT Merlin. The wizard from Arthurian legend. Now if this sounds like a stretch, hear me out.
Merlin from early Welsh folklore is MUCH more different from modern tellings of the character. In early legends, Merlin wasn’t even connected to King Arthur at all, and was described as a disfigured child born from a human mother and an incubus father. As a newborn, Merlin saves his mother’s life from different threats by communicating with her fluently and using his other supernatural powers. At some point during his adulthood, he becomes traumatized by war and other dark events in his life, which causes him to go mad and become a “wild man of the woods”. Sound familiar?
Another cambion Jason shares many similarities with is the monster known as Grendel from the epic poem Beowulf. Some of you might already recognize that as the name of the space ship from Jason X, which is what the name is derived from. In Beowulf, Grendel is tormented by the sounds of joy and singing coming from the mead hall of Heorot, which compels him to attack it and it’s inhabitants every night for 12 years. This draws the attention of the poem’s hero, Beowulf, who goes to destroy Grendel by waiting for him at the mead hall and mortally wounding him. A dying Grendel retreats to his cave, where his mother awaits, and his mother subsequently swears her revenge on Beowulf.
Many people online have pointed out the similarities between Beowulf and the original Friday the 13th film, even if the similarities are all purely coincidental and not at all the creator’s intention. Still, I can’t help but be somewhat amazed by it.
It’s kinda given me a new head-canon for the franchise, as it gives a cool and spooky mythological origin to Jason for me. With him being an unholy offspring between a human and incubus, giving him a ghastly appearance and certain supernatural powers, and also giving him a plausible explanation of what happened to him after he drowned/disappeared by having him be taken and raised by his demon father to become some sort of monster. I don’t know, I feel like something cool could come from this and I’d like to flesh out this idea in a story or fan-film someday.
What do you guys think?

Julius grew up in an interesting household. His stepmother runs a museum and comes from a Muslim family while his dad is a lawyer that comes from an atheistic family, so he has an interesting mix of traditions at home.
