2024.06.01 12:18 Belenar Update to my previous post. How did I do?
| I am reporting back after this post. It was u/forswearThinPotation who put me on track with this comment. Unfortunately, that particular bottling was no longer available, but with the help of my local whisky shop, I was able to locate this beauty. A GlenDronach 27yo 1994 Oloroso Sherry Puncheon cask #7469. They claimed it was the last bottle available in their network. One week from now we will open (and likely empty) it with a few close friends. The occasion? This bottle is the occasion. Life is short, create memories! Excuse my 7/10 picture. I donât have a receipt, and neither was I wearing a noteworthy watch today. I know you guys expect better. Iâm hoping the bottle makes up for some of it. submitted by Belenar to whiskey [link] [comments] |
2024.06.01 11:43 anjalirenee just finished the book, annoyed at how long it was
so i watched the show last year and i absolutely loved it. i got the book for christmas and though the 766 page count was daunting i was excited and ive definitely read longer books! now that i've finished it though i'm a little irritated with the page count. does anyone else feel like there was a lot of unnecessary description? i loved the plot, i loved the character development and the various friendships, i even liked the flashbacks to croziers life (barring the pond sex).
(rant incoming) i just felt like the author spent a LOT of words describing and re-describing and re-describing the ships, the ice, the cold conditions, the minutiae of naval life that the average person does not know or care about. maybe its just me, maybe shipwreck aficionados really liked reading a painstakingly long description of irving going to every room on the ship just to say he cant find Silna. i found the descriptions of where they should navigate around the various islands and lands and rivers in straits super opaque like sorry i didnt know back fish river opens into great slave lake obviously, oh and obviously if you went x miles in y direction you would get there, obviously. a lot of naval jargon wasn't explained, which is fine not everything has to be explained, but it really did take away from my immersion. sorry i dont know what a gunwhale boat or a xyz boat is and how they're different, it took me 500 pages to realize bosun and boatswain were the same thing, i looked up fo'c'sle every time i read it and every time i forgot what it meant. oh totally i know what a foretop is, totally i know what a muster is, oh yes of course i already know the ins and outs of naval hierarchies and who should succeed who.
again, maybe this book was meant for naval history fans and im just not the target audience. the show was relatively accessible so i guess i was just taken aback at how kinda non-accessible the book was. i felt like i was reading a book in french, i was constantly looking things up. at some point i just gave up so i could read smoother. anyways so do you guys generally like the very technical descriptions in the book? is it just me?
edit: not to mention the totally unnecessary description of the very few female characters and their bodies. 90% of that was NOT needed. oh you saw her breasts for the 4th time cool i dont care stop telling me about it.

2024.06.01 11:35 Visual_Ability_1229 lord Venkateswara Part 2- detailed description contd.
this is a continuation from my earlier post .
my objective is to make accessible information in the greater public domain. much of what I am saying is available in public, but obscure or not present in one single place.
Main Idol overview -
the MOOLAVIRAT or DHRUVA beram, the subject of all legends and debates.
- I am biased in my opinion , but it is an idol , the craftsmanship of which is beyond anything I have ever seen. no Louv're museum, greek statues, Rome or even our Own hoyasala sculptures even come close. the details are extremely life-life. this is also why we see rumors like he is soft or sweating etc.
the level of detail is really extraordinary. fingernails, toenails, striations in the skin folds, and attention to detail to every ornament is seen.
all ornaments in front view continue on the back side. full 360 degrees. mostly on the back, are the strings and knots of the ornaments , all integrally in the idol. the hair locks, also have very tiny crevices, looking like real hair, especially in dim lighting.
there is another unique problem that all of this creates - it sounds silly but only people who are worshipping idols in temples would know.
normally, during ritual baths, CUrd ( or yoghurt ) is a key ingredient.
what most people don;t know, is that curd is very very hard to clean up afterwards .
it gets stuck in tiny crevices, and eventually the room starts to smell really bad.
in tirumala, the practice is to NOT use curd, and just stick to milk and various versions of water.
the real reason for that is the exquisite features of the idol. no amount of cleaning is enough to fully bring out all the curd. so a long time back, decisions were taken to stop using it. (again lot of debates on it and lot of controversies jumped out of it)
Curd Iis used now , for all the other smaller idols, where it is easier to clean up later.
Main Idol - dimensions
there are confusing reports about his height ranging from 6 feet to 12 feet. all are false. numbers change based on how he is measured.
he is 8 feet tall, if measured from foot to top of crown. the crown is 20 inches approx. (based on size of the gold crowns made for him..all of them 22 inches to accommodate padding)
the lotus base (Padma -peeta ) is estimated to be 18 inches.
but an idol is always measured with base included. this brings the total to 9 ½ feet , as the pedestal is always counted. but in reality , when we go to the temple today, we are standing standing above the height of his feet, so we would see 8 feet of his majesty .
these are all estimates and could be wrong by a couple of inches.
also, the dimensions of the sanctum sanctorum are 12feet 9 inches x 12 feet 9 inches. square. this is available in public domain. nothin secret about it.
in the Agama, among the GarbhaGrihas, this is the largest sanctioned dimension, only possible for a very tall mula virat.
*(we need to again remember- this extraordinary idol, was exposed to the sun and moon for centuries, surrounded by elephants and lotus ponds and venomous snakes , before a human being even came into the picture. its really hard to imagine him just standing there in the forest with a smile on his face , for a thousand years, before a temple was made out of wood ( yes literally wooden temple - more on that later)
his waist is estimated to be around 24-27 inches (depending upon exactly where you measure it)
his chest is 42 inches ( some serious bodybuilding goals for men - forget the old-NTR like chubby looks)
his arms circumference for the armlets is estimated to be 19 inches.
overall, the appearance of a youthful strong tall man.
now each body part -
feet - the feet are spaced apart at shoulder width. they are extremely well-formed, having even toenails. there are toe-rings on his toes, and then there are 2 varieties of anklets on him. 1 looks more like a feminine Dancer kind of anklet ( I dont know the right word for it) . the second one is more masculine and like a thick strong ring around the ankle.
the lower body cloth (peetambaram or dhoti) outline can be clearly made in the idol, resting near the anklets. its folded into 7 layers as we move upwards to his waist. on the backside, it continues and is neatly tucked into the small of his back. there is one very interesting observation here..... the knot and tucked in-dhoti on the back looks like the hood of a cobra. senior priests say it is symbolic of kundalini.
note: no actual cobra figure appear on the idol. I am only talking about the lower garment folded in such a way. this I have actually seen on other vishnu idols in iconography books on agama. I'll share a pic here of similar feature if I can.
normally, there is no gap in a stone idol , between the feet . rock is there to preserve the stability of the idol. but here there is a hollow, and a garment can be passed under to dress him.
there is also a decorative Vastram draped on this sides, beautifully knotted on both hips. its pleats gently fall down on either side.
as we move up, his two lower limbs are strong and bulky. the calves are particularly bulky, very strong from the backside.
strong massive thighs can be made out from all sides. the kneecaps are very prominently visible.
his posture is almost straight.... with a small tilt to the right side (his right side) . as such the right knee is slightly bent. overall, he stoops very slightly fowards, as if just about to step out of the pedestal. this is hard to observe after all the heavy ornaments and garlands.
I will talk about the more technical description of his posture by using sanskrit AGAMA terminology in future posts. this was intended for people who are not familiar with highly technical jargon.

2024.06.01 11:30 AutoModerator Plot Bunny Adoption Thread - June 2024
This is a place where you can post plot ideas and writing prompts that you would like to share for others to use. This is also the place to drop fic requests!
What is a plot bunny? âPlot bunnyâ is a funny fandom term for a fic idea â so called because they breed like rabbits! Since so many writers end up with a surplus of them, here is a place where you can drop off your unwanted plot bunnies for others to consider adopting, or simply for the sake of sharing. A plot bunny is generally a more developed idea and might well be fandom specific, although some Alternate Universe ideas could work for a few different fandoms.
For the purposes of this thread, a
prompt is a short idea that could work in any fandom - for example, "your OTP wish on a shooting star together".
A
fic request would be asking for someone to write a specific fic for you - sticking to the pairing and outline that you wish.
- Label â fic request, plot bunny, or writing prompt
- fandom(s) / or "no fandom" â this can include some fandoms you think it would work particularly well for if leaving a prompt!
- trope, character(s), ship (if any)
- a description of the idea â please try to keep this within a few hundred words max for ease of browsing
- NSFW ideas are allowed, but you must drop your description in a site such as Just Paste Me or ControlC and link to it rather than writing it directly in the thread. Please note that NSFW also encompasses gore or things likely to be serious triggers, such as suicide, not just sex.
- if leaving a prompt in the thread, please indicate whether you would like to be notified if anyone fulfils it
Be aware â once you post an idea in this thread for adoption, you lose âownershipâ of it. Someone else taking up the plot bunny is free to adapt or change it as they like. If you have a very specific vision of the story you would like to see fulfilled, you might have better luck posting it as a fic request. Of course, thereâs nothing stopping you from tackling the idea yourself at a later date if inspiration for the idea strikes you again!
Whilst the mods will be monitoring the thread, we will not be involving ourselves in discussions over fic requests or the like. There is no guarantee that anyone will take up your request, and we will not be chasing up authors who have been out of contact for a while or similar.
Don't forget to let someone know if you adopt their plot bun or decide to work on their fic request! submitted by

2024.06.01 11:07 Harry_is_white_hot The USS Curtiss USO incident: that time the U.S. Navy ship delivering the hydrogen bomb for the Castle Bravo test was shadowed by an Unidentified Submarine Object in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
| Inspired by Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudetâs (Ret.) recent discussions on USOs, I thought I would relate the following. Just over 70 years ago, an interesting incident occurred on board the USS Curtis â the U.S. Navy vessel tasked with delivery of the Shrimp device to the Pacific Proving Ground in 1954 for the notorious Castle Bravo nuclear weapons test. This particular test, which scientists from Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore laboratories had calculated to have a yield of 4,8 megatons actually went far above this calculation to achieve nearly 16 megatons of TNT equivalent yield. This miscalculation exposed many U.S. military personnel to dangerous levels of radiation and, more importantly, post traumatic stress disorder from being exposed to the close-range effects of such a large blast. Was the USO incident related to the yield miscalculation event? USS Curtiss (AV-4) The Curtiss class were the first seaplane tenders built from the keel up for the US Navy, the previous tenders had been converted from cargo ships. They were designed to provide command facilities for forward operating long-range patrol seaplane squadrons. To accomplish this, they were heavily armed with four 5-inch (130 mm)/38 caliber dual-purpose guns, and contained repair and maintenance facilities, along with supplies for operating in forward areas for many months. The ships had a large seaplane deck located at the stern with the maintenance shops located in the superstructure just forward of it. They were built with three large cranes, one located at the starboard extreme of the stern, the second was at the aft of the superstructure on the port side, with the remaining crane located midship on the starboard side. The starboard crane at midship was removed from both ships during WWII and replaced with a 20-millimeter (0.79 in) Oerlikon cannon gun tub. Two of the 5-in guns were staggered on opposite sides of the rear superstructure, with the remaining two in a superfiring configuration at the bow of the ships. From 23 February to 13 June 1951, Curtiss served as flagship for "Operation Greenhouse" and was the base for civilian and military technicians during the atomic tests at Eniwetok. She also provided meteorological information and operated a boat pool. Curtiss served at San Diego, in local operations until 29 September 1952, when she again sailed to Eniwetok, as flagship during the atomic tests of "Operation Ivy", during which the first hydrogen bomb was detonated. Returning to San Diego, on 4 December, she cruised the west coast, and visited Acapulco, Mexico, in 1953. From 10 January to 28 May 1954, she participated in "Operation Castle". Rather than write about the USO event, I will post verbatim the eyewitness accounts of two U.S. Marines onboard the USS Curtiss â Robert Mackenzie and G. Nicholas Stuparich. First, a little background from Mackenzie and Stuparich regarding their duties on the Curtiss: Mackenzie: So all the guys that got a clearance, we went as a group on the Curtiss. Now we knew where it was going but we really didnât know what we were going to do. Interviewer : OK, so after the fact, at some point you know that youâve gotten a clearance. Mackenzie: We didnât know that until we were already halfway on the cruise. And the way we found out is that some of the men were called in and they were told they didnât get a Queen Clearance. They got top secret but they didnât get Queen. And it was no fault of theirs, Mary. Some of them, if they had one relative that was born in another country and something, they just couldnât get one. Interviewer: Correct. Correct. So âQâ stands for âQueen.â Yes. Or is âQueenâ something you make from âQâ? I wonder. Iâve neverâ Mackenzie: Well, âQâ must be âQueen,â I guess. Yes. It must be. Interviewer: You guys said âQueen,â though, when you said clearance. Mackenzie: Yes. Yes. And itâs a Queen Clearance, yes. And theyâre still around, I understand. . Mackenzie: And I tell you why, is that when I went aboard ship, they made me an orderly, which was a great honor. And so I was the admiralâs orderly, and before that I was the captainâs orderly. In fact, by the time I was aboard the Curtiss for eighteen months, I worked as an orderly for three admirals and two shipâs captains and the executive officer, which was a great background for a young man. And I have the highest regard for naval officers. I watched them talk to their men, I watched them talk to their fellow officers, I saw how they solved problems, and just what a great example for a young man, to be around people of that caliber. It was wonderful. Interviewer: Let me ask you a question here because I donât know that much about the armed forces. The Curtiss is obviously a Navy ship. Mackenzie: Yes. Interviewer: And youâre a Marine serving on it. Is that common? Mackenzie: No. Itâs only in capital ships, normally, which would be battleshipsâ Interviewer: âCapital ships.â Mackenzie: Capital ships, which would beâthe terminology has changed today, Mary, but in my day it was battleships, cruisers, heavy cruisers, light cruisers, aircraft carriers, would have Marine detachments. Now originally the Marine detachments were almost the police force of the ship. And they were called MAs, which would be Master-of-Arms. Very unpopular with the Navy. And the brig is, of course, run by the Marines. But on our ship, we didnât have those duties, not on the Curtiss. The Curtiss, we were a special force with top secret clearances. People only didnât talk to us because they would say, Hey, you donât talk to those guys. It was that kind of thing. So anyway, but we ended up being very close with the Navy, but our duties, we didnât talk to each other about our duties. Stuparich: So, I remember signing the clearance papers and they didnât tell us what we were going to do or where we were going. We went aboard ship as supposedly just a Marine detachment, but then it ended up being as nuclear security. We were well briefed and well trained on what our jobs were aboard ship. I did security with the devices, once they were delivered to the vessel. We did perimeter security when the devices were being delivered, which meant we were out on the pier and out in the area when the trucks arrived, delivering units. Once the canisters were brought aboard, then we were assigned to security aboard the ship, which meant working in the hole. In other words, the devices were put in a particular compartment. We were responsible for the security of that department, the corridor that led to it, and I canât remember if we were reading the temperature. We had to take a reading, I believe, once an hour and record it. I do not remember whether it was temperature or radiation, but it had to be recorded; I remember that if there was something wrong, and I donât know the standard, but if it went over that standard or under that standard, we had to notify the science officer, who was also the engineering officer. That was Commander Hart, I believe. Interviewer: Now, let me back up just a tiny bit with the security piece. So thereâs a point at which youâre informed, I assume after youâre cleared, of what your mission actually is? Stuparich: Correct. Interviewer: Give me a sense of how much detail they give you there, and how much that is connected to what you already might know about nuclear weapons. Stuparich: Thatâs a little bit confusing because I know so much more now than I did then. I do not believe they gave us that much information. They definitely didnât give us a detailed description of our duties, other than that what we were doing was actually guarding a nuclear device, and thatâs all they would say. We and I think about a half-a-dozen sailors were the only ones that actually saw the canisters being brought aboard. There were not very many people. That was secured. The whole aft deck was secured when that occurred. Interviewer: And how many of there were you, when you say âweâ? Stuparich: There were probably six Marines on the dock, one or two on the trucks, then I think there were a couple in the different corridorsâwhat they did was they dogged the hatches so people couldnât come in when we were loading this particular material. Then it went down into the hole and then there was a special rack because the canisters had to be triced up in these racks. I canât remember whether there wasâI think there were six to a rack. And they were triced up like you would trice up nitroglycerine, you know, with like Bungee cords but I think they were springs. Interviewer: Say that word again. I donât know that word âtrice.â Stuparich: Tricing means to tie, and what it does is it keeps something in balance so that if itâs hanging, itâs free-hanging, but itâs in a rack, and this keeps the canister in line, and itâs called trice, you trice it up. Interviewer: âTrice it up.â I see. Stuparich: We didnât do that. That was done by their people. Stuparich: We embarked out of San Diego, went up to San Francisco. Thatâs it. We went to San Francisco, went to Hunters Point for something, some sort of refurbishing. Then from Hunters Point we went over to Port Chicago, picked up our merchandise, if you will, and then when we were through with that, when we pulled out, we went down and then into the bay. At that time we picked up some escorts, and then we went under the Golden Gate Bridge, at which time the Secret Service or FBI, whoever they were, had the bridge closed, and they were waving at us as we went underneath. Interviewer: Wow, they closed the bridge. Stuparich: They closed the Golden Gate Bridge. It was kind of cool because being from the Bay Area I kind of remembered that. I think I was aft at the time and I was looking up and yeah, sure enough, they did. And that was kind of interesting. So then we headed out to the Pacific. I think we refueled and resupplied once or twice, a ship came alongside, I think they came out of Hawaii. They used the high line and brought the stuff across, and then they brought the refueler up and then they refueled us. And thatâs why they call us the Ghost Ship, because almost everything that we did, the replenishing and the refueling, was all done at sea. Now, the USO incident â which many people denied having happened. The "Russian sub" somehow penetrated the flotilla protecting the Curtiss and was completely undetected until it appeared underneath the Curtiss. This event occurred a full 6 years before the Soviet's first nuclear submarine set sail - so for a diesel powered submarine in the middle of the Pacific without logistic support this feat would have been incredibly difficult to accomplish. Stuparich Account: Stuparich : The other thing that really upset me was the submarine. Interviewer: Yes, talk to me about that a little bit. Stuparich : Well, Robert Mackenzie was the admiralâs orderly that night, and I was the orderly on the next deck down, and my job was to protect the crypto room which was, if you were looking down the hall, was to the left, and then the CIC which was straight ahead. Interviewer: CIC is? Stuparich : Is Central Intelligence Control or something like that. Itâs an area where they plot everything. [Note: on board U.S. Navy ships, the CIC is the Combat Information Center] Anyway, I was standing there and all of a sudden Commander Hart came running around the corner and said, âCome with meâ, with that I was on alert. So we went into CIC and then there wasâI stood at the door. He said, âBlock the doorâ, and I blocked the door. And it was one of those combination doors in those days. And I saw him talking with an officer, with the officer in command of the CIC at the time, or duty officer, I guess is what you call him, and then they were reallyâI could tell they were really stressed about something. Then a chief electronics mate had taken the young man off of the board and they were looking at the board and plotting on the board something, and he got on the phone to the bridge. I immediately felt the ship changing course, and we immediately started into a zigzag situation. And then I could tell, this man was stressed, and Iâd never seen him stressed like that before. This way, that way. Everything was very staccato. So went back up to the bridge and Mackenzie and the Admiral were already there. And as a young man, youâre looking at their body language and their facial features and we knew that there was something wrong. Well then, I heard the conversation, and they wanted to know, in profanity, how the son-of-a-b*tch got there. How did it get there? How did it get through the perimeter? So then they were communicating with the vessels that were on the perimeter, there were destroyers out there and everything else, and they couldnât figure it out. Admiral Wellings said, I believe thatâs heâs probably been sitting here waiting for us. He probably plotted our course and just dropped to the bottom and waited till we came by, and then he came up underneath us. And he just followed us, and it was just a Russian sub, is what we anticipated. And they figured that they knew it was a Russian sub. Yeah. And it did. It stayed with us. And then what really became scary is that I remember the admiral telling the captain, We donât have to worry if heâs directly under us. If he drops back into firing range, then we have to worry. By then, the other ships were doing crisscrosses in front and in back of us. These are the little destroyers. And sure enough, he did, he dropped back, I donât know how far, I remember they had it plotted, and he was within firing range. And so then I just, I donât know, something really bothered me and really happened to me mentally, because I just said [to myself], this whole thingâs over now, weâre through, weâre done with. And I guess I kind of convinced myself that that was going to happen. Interviewer: And this is prior to arriving in the Pacific. Stuparich: Yeah, we were on our way. Interviewer: So, just to get a sense of it, youâre well aware of what youâve got on board? Stuparich : Oh yeah, because Iâd already been down in the hole and theyâd told us what it was. Yeah, and then youâve got aâ Got this sub, and believe it or not, not very many people knew about it. I mean surprisingly, people were telling Bob [Robert W. Mackenzie] he was crazy. You donât know what youâre talking about. There was no submarine. Well, I know there was. And when I mentioned it to Bob last year he said, Thank God somebody else knows. And what weâre trying to do is find a third Marine who was on the bridge, but there may not have been a Marine on the bridge. Mackenzie account: Interviewer: So explain to me how much you knew about the mission or what you thought or whatâs that like? Mackenzie : We didnât know anything about it, frankly. You know, I realized that it was more than just a mission. Now by that time, Mary, the Korean War was over with. We were steaming out in â54? Yes, January of â54 is when we left San Diego. And Korea had been over for about six months, but the Cold War was extremely hot then. And when I first realized that there was more going on than we realized is when we had full wartime conditions on the ship. And Iâd thought, Well, what are we doing here? The shipâs all blacked out at night. Weâve got all these red lights on you see in the movies, like those submarine movies, everybody running and all those red lights on at night. And heavy, heavy drapes in front of every hatch. And you donât go outside, or as they say, out on the decks without closing that, and then you open the hatch and a red light comes on, then you close the hatch. And they were conscious of sound, of lights. And I said, Whatâs going on here? You know. And so when I really realized there was more going on is when I was on orderly duty for the admiral. And I was on duty and on duty and on duty and I just couldnât stand up anymore. So I called somebody in the Marine detachment and said, Well, when is my relief going to be here? It was real late at night, it was like eleven or twelve oâclock, Iâd gone on that morning at 6:30, and Iâd been standing all day long. Thatâs what you do. And I just got so I couldnât stand anymore. So I called down and I was told that the admiral only wanted me and there would be no relief, So just stick it out, Mackenzie. I wasnât real happy about that. But anyway, soâand Iâll put this right on tapeâso a Marine never sits down on duty, but I did. I couldnât stand up anymore. So I found a chair in an empty officerâs stateroom and I wedged that chair in a real narrow hallway that went into the admiralâs quarters, and I put my feet against the bulkhead and I rocked back and I just kind of rocked with the ship. At least I was off my feet, and I figured nobody could get by me. So I guess, I donât know if I dozed off or what, but all I know is this sailor was shaking my arm. It was about 2:30, three oâclock in the morning. And he says, âWake up the admiral! Wake up the admiral!â And I said,âWell, who are you? What do you mean, wake up the admiral? Itâs three oâclock in the morning.â [And he said], âOh, they want him on the bridge right nowâ. And I said, âWho wants him on the bridge?â [And he said], âWell, the officers, blah, blah, and all thatâ. I said, âWell, what is your name?â And he gave me his name, and I said, âWhatâs the officerâs name?â I really realized we were very, very conscious and were trained to be suspicious of everything. I donât know who this guy is. He wants to go in and see the admiral? Thatâs my job. Nobody goes in to see the admiral. And so anyway I said, âWell, Iâll go wake up the admiral and you go back and report to the bridge, and Iâm sure the admiral will be right thereâ. I didnât want him to go in with me. And so anyway, he left. So now Iâm saying, How do you wake up an admiral? You know. I wanted to do it maybe like I was back in back in boot camp and scream, say, âHit the deckâ! I says, well, no, I didnât want to go to the brig, so I didnât do that. So anyway I said, Well, how do you wake up an admiral? So anyway, I woke him up. And I remember he said, âWhat is it, Mackenzie?â And he was startled. And I said, âSir, the admiralâs presence is requested on the bridge immediatelyâ. You donât want to say âimmediatelyâ to an admiral, but I did. Anyway, he looked at me, and he had a phone right next to his bunk. And I always wondered, if he had phone, why didnât they just call him? I donât know. You know, you would wonder. And so anyway, he picked up his phone. And like I said, the respect from the naval officers, theyâre just really something, Mary, they really are. And so he went up on the deck with his blue terrycloth bathrobe on. Interviewer: He picks up the phone and confirms? Mackenzie: Right. And then he puts on his blue bathrobeâ He doesnât even get dressed. Oh no. They want him right now [sound of fingers snapping]. So I thought, Whoo, somethingâs going on. So I go up there, and it was like an old World War II movie. At my age, I grew up with those World War II movies, you know. And on the bridge, all the lights are out because weâre running at wartime conditions at night, and you can just see the shadows, you know, and those were from the glowing of the instruments and the people moving around the bridge and all that. And right away, the officer in charge of the bridge came up, and everybody was whispering. I thought, What is all this whispering about? You know. And he was talking to the admiral. And thatâs part of the job of being an orderly. Youâre there but you donât get too close because if you doâ Interviewer: Youâll hear? Mackenzie: You donât want to hear. And the admirals will let you know, and so will the captains. If youâre a little too close to them, theyâll give you one of those, turn their head around, you kind of back up. You realize youâre a little too close. They want to be guarded. They donât want anybody to get them. Thatâs your job is to protect them, help them in any way you can, so forth. But anyway, and youâll kind of back up. But I wanted to hear what was going on, you know. So then all I heard was âsubmarine.â I thought, Well, so what? You know. But anyway, it turns out that we were being shadowed by a Russian sub. Interviewer: For real? Mackenzie: For real. And the sub was directly under us [slaps hands together] like this. And they picked it up. Because I thought, well, how did it get through our screen? We were in a complete convoy, and we had carriers, we had destroyers, we had everything. And I thought, How did this guy get through all that? And they tell me what they do is they know where youâre going. They just sit down at the bottom and wait till you get there and just [slapping hands together] pop up. They donât have to go through any screens. And I said, Oh. Interviewer: Oh. So they know from â Mackenzie: Sure, they know. Yes. They probably knew, with all the spies and all that. But anyway, the admiral asked several questions, and I guess before, he asked them if they had contact with somebody. And they said,âNo, sir, we thought weâd wait for the admiralâ, and all that. And he said, âWell, you shouldâve. Did you contact anybody to tell them what the situation was? How have you tried to contact the sub?â Evidently they have an international language they use. Then of course they used Russian and they used everything, and no response. And so I always was kidding Kari because this was dramatic, you know. I always said, Whooo, thirty seconds from World War III. Well, thatâs the way you think of it later, but itâs very true. But the thing that I still remember today is when the admiral walked on the bridge, you get almost like this, your daddy had come home to save you or something. That man had a presence about him. He wasnât tall in stature. And his name was [RADM H.C.] Bruton. Iâm sure heâs gone now. But he walked on that bridge and all of a sudden, you could justâeverybody, like, The admiralâs here, weâre going to be all right. You know. And you could feel that. And he asked just a few questions. And the sub, and they were waiting for the reply to come back, Do we take action? Do we take evasive action? Now itâs pretty hard to blow up a submarine when itâs right under you. What do you do, when you think about it? How do you get a sub from under us? But we had submarines with us, too, our subs. And so it came back, they were waiting for the reply to come back, and I thought, My God, this is more serious than I realized. You know, it was kind of like a game until then, you know, it was just wartime conditions. I mean we didnât think anything about this kind of stuff. And so we knew security was extremely tight. Only certain people could go by us, then go into certain compartments, and Iâll tell you about that in a minute. But anyway, back to the sub. And so it broke away. And you know you say âbroke away,â whereâd it go? It just broke away. And the admiral, they saidâsonar reported or whatever and said, The sub has broken away. They mustâve known how many seconds they had. Later I saw a Tom Clancy movie about that, where they were checking and there were seconds and all, and I said, My golly, I saw the same thing in 1954, except for real, you know. So they said it broke away, and the admiral just calm as could be and he says, Carry on, men, you did a good job. If you need me, call, and he went back and went to bed. And I said [to myself], My gosh, it was almostâit was like nothing to him. He was so in command, just knew what he was doing, asked the right questions, congratulated everybody for the job they did, and went back to bed. Now Iâm wide awake. I didnât sit down anymore for the rest of the night. But I never told any of the guys about it. I just told that guy, one of our fellow Marines, November the tenth. It was the Marine Corps birthday. We all got together here at Dana Point. And I told him the submarine story and he says, âWhat submarine?â I said, âThe submarineâ. He said,â Well, I didnât know anything about any submarine.â And I remembered, Iâd thought about it, âWell, why should I worry the guys?â And not only that, if something happened when I was on orderly duty, you donât pass that around the ship. Thatâs a confidence between you and the admiral. And so I didnât pass it on. Interviewer: I have a couple of questions about this. Youâre aware in real time, then, that it is a submarine. Mackenzie: Absolutely. Because youâre hearing the conversation. Interviewer: Right. It makes me wonder, as Iâm listening to the story, if they had you on duty for all this time, would there have been some knowledge of some kind of danger, that they didnât let you leave orderly duty? Do you make a connection between the fact that the sub was there and the fact that you had to be on duty for so long? That makes you wonder. Mackenzie: Well, I donât know. It does, Mary. I never thought about it that way. I donât think so. I just really think the reason I was left on duty so long is that we were new at our jobs, and they just didnât realize that when youâre on orderly duty, youâre attached [slapping hands together], you know, at the hip. And not only that, is the admiral doesnât want to walk out and say, Whatâs your name? You know, he wants somebody that he can trust and could read him before he says it. I could tell what he wanted. He was looking around and so I call somebody and say, Hey, the skipperâs out of coffee. You better get some in there. See? So youâre his confidant. Heâll say, Well, how are the men thinking? Because heâs some concerned about the morale, or whatever. So youâre his sounding board. Every admiralâs different. Some really use their orderlies. Iâve had admirals when I reported, theyâd say, âWell, Iâm a little low on cigars, Mackenzie. Why donât you go down and get me cigars?â Well, I donât say, âWhat kind do you smoke?â So Iâd go down and ask the guy to open up the place where you buy the cigars, whatâd we call that? Commissary, I think. And they used to question it. And theyâd just say, âWell, you sure these are the kind of cigars you smoke, Mackenzie?â And I said, âThese are for the skipper.â And he said, âI donât think soâ. And I said, âReally? Why donât you call and ask him?â [And heâd say], âOh, OKâ. And so that kind of a thing. So, interesting. But anyway, I never did pass that submarine story on to the troops. Interviewer: Thatâs so interesting. Thatâs interesting. Mackenzie: And so then, now, as time goes by, Mary, as I watch the History Channel and Discovery Times Channel, all these things are coming back to me. And our main concern was frogmen. We were very afraid of frogmen. And so we figured if they came aboard the ship, how theyâd come aboard the ship, what we would do, you know, if one did come on. But I never thought about mines or bombs attached to the ship, and now I think about it. Can you imagine if they couldâve got to our ship, and we had people on their like [J. Robert] Oppenheimer and had all those scientists on there? We had fifty-eight scientists on the ship. We had all the bombs on the ship. I mean what a coup thatâd meant for the Russians if our ship accidentally sunk, hit a reef or something, or something went off. You know, you can just see it all right now. Itâd be another Cold War incident. Interviewer: But you donât know that youâre carrying bombs at this point, or do you? Mackenzie: Yes, we did. We knew we were carrying pieces of the bombs. Interviewer: You did. Mackenzie: Yes. Yes. Because security was so tight, it had to be something like that, when only the admiral and two or three people could go in there. And then we timed them, how long they were in, who they were with, they signed in, they signed out. They had a badge with their photograph on it. The badges were made by, at that time, the Atomic Energy Commission [AEC], and they were watermarked with all the same intensity and security as our money. And the admiral would have his picture on there. And I didnât just look on his shirt. I had to take it off his shirt, which you donât like to touch an admiral or a captain. Itâs just thisâyouâve got thatâthis little [feeling] like, âHi, Godâ- that feeling. And youâd take off his badge like that and hold it up right next to his face, make sure you got a really good look at it, and youâd flip it over and check the watermarks, check the number on it. And when I was on, Iâd have a check-off list, and his name better be on there. In fact, our own commanding officer forgot to put his name on there and our guys wouldnât let him in the post. He said, âWhat do you mean?â They said, âYouâre not on the list, sir.â [And he said], âWell, you know who I am. Iâm Captain [James] Brannaman, your commanding officer.â [They] say, âSir, we been instructed, if your name isnât on the list, you donât get on this postâ. And the guys loved doing it to him. He wasnât real happy but. Interviewer: Oh, Iâm sure. Who was this captain again? Mackenzie: Captain Brannaman. Heâs still alive. Stanford graduate. Super sharp guy. About six-five or so, something like that. Nice man. Interviewer: Iâm not well-versed in military things. Is it usual for an admiral to be on the ship? Mackenzie: No. Now the admiral on any operation, the admiral has what he calls his flagship, and he can change his flag when he wants. The Curtiss was an unusual ship, Mary, because it was designed as a seaplane tender, 1939, something like that. It was hit at Pearl Harbor, went all the way through World War II, ended up with seven battle stars. Then after that, the Atomic Energy Commission grabbed it and then converted it for all the testing. So the Marine captain isnât like a Navy captain. Whatâs confusing to everybody, and it was to me, too, the captain of the ship, the Navy ship, doesnât have to be a captain. Thatâs his job title. OK, and now the Marine captain is a captain and heâs in charge of the Marines. Interviewer: So this is the Marine captain youâre talking about. Mackenzie: The Marine captain, right. Interviewer: Got it. Not the captain of the ship. Mackenzie: Not the ship captainâthatâs right. The author dives deep into the intricacies of gunstock modification and design, making it a must-read for anyone interested in mastering the trade. What stood out the most was the wealth of historical context and detailed information the book provides, giving readers a unique insight into the evolution of firearm design. The high-resolution images were equally impressive, making it easy to follow along with the author's techniques and demonstrations. While the book may not be for everyone, as it requires a certain level of technical understanding, I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to improve their gunstock crafting skills or just looking to learn more about the history behind firearms. Overall, it's a valuable addition to any collector's library. https://preview.redd.it/46t2zzrtbx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ff598fe035dcfeb04d8499998005a9cd4df364c I recently picked up this engaging book about the Model 1903 Springfield Service Rifle, and I must say, it's been quite an enlightening read. The paperback, published by Wolfe Publishing Co. , is in pretty good condition despite some age-related wear and handling marks on the cover. However, the content itself is as sturdy as the book's binding. I particularly enjoy the detailed descriptions and black-and-white illustrations, which make the history of the rifle come alive. While scanning through the preliminary pages, I found a previous owner's embossed stamp and an ink name, adding a personal touch to the book. Overall, this book is a well-preserved, high-quality read that provides insight into the fascinating story of the 1903 Springfield Sporter Stock. https://preview.redd.it/a9hcgqlubx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d54c5889fe4385557da3c9a86f3ff013cca2b69a I recently stumbled upon "The M1903 Springfield Rifle and Its Variations" (here's my humanized version: The M1903 Springfield Gunbook) for a bit of casual reading. I have to admit, it's been an unexpectedly interesting journey through the land of rifles! This paperback book, published by North Cape Publications Inc, doesn't just tell the history of the rifle, but also delves deep into the variations and modifications made to it. From the stock to the bayonet, this book explores it all with an impressive level of detail. It's actually quite a hefty read, clocking in at 440 pages, so it might not be as portable as one might want. However, this makes sense considering there's a lot of ground to cover when it comes to a topic as rich and profound as this one. Visually, the book doesn't disappoint. Its pages are filled with accurate and well-crafted diagrams, making the technical stuff much more comprehensible. Despite the depth, I found the narrative easy to follow, making my venture into the world of rifles a less daunting challenge. That said, the book doesn't exactly go smoothly. Some parts can be a bit hard to read and understand, especially to the uninitiated. It is a niche area, after all. Finally, the price tag might be a bit steep for casual readers. But for those serious about rifles, it's a worthy investment. So, would I recommend this book? Yes, with a few words of caution. If you dive in without some prior knowledge of the topic, you might find it a bit challenging. But if you're a beginner wanting to immerse yourself in this intricate world, it's a good starting point. Overall, it's a comprehensive, informative and engaging read. https://preview.redd.it/027nchsubx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d86d2eb2f47005f052dc20f25069384e1ee49d8f As someone who enjoys spending time at the range and has an appreciation for unique firearms, I was thrilled to come across the 30 Model 1903 Springfield Handbook. This book has become my go-to guidance when it comes to disassembling and reassembling my trusted firearm. The clear, detailed diagrams make it a breeze to understand the intricate workings of the rifle. One of my favorite features of this handbook is the triple saddle-stitched binding, which gives it a sturdy feel and ensures it remains intact even after multiple uses. The over 60 photos and line drawings are a bonus, providing visual aids that make the process even more understandable. However, I do wish the book had a more comprehensive service and maintenance section. While it does cover the basics, I would've appreciated a more in-depth guide on taking care of my firearm, including information on recommended cleaning solutions and maintenance techniques. All in all, the 30 Model 1903 Springfield Handbook is a valuable addition to any shooter or collector's library. Its detailed illustrations and straightforward language make it an excellent resource for anyone looking to dive into the world of 1903 Springfield rifles. https://preview.redd.it/u9w3f56vbx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afad4dcc354601e85dfeaf093cd9018120bc0a57 The Springfield 1903 Rifles: The Illustrated, Documented Story of the Design, Development, and Production of All the Models, Appendages, and Accessories is a comprehensive and in-depth exploration into the history and service of this legendary rifle. The book, penned by Bill Brophy, is an exhaustive lifetime work that features over 1500 high-quality photos, showcasing every aspect of the 1903 Springfield Sporter Stock in meticulous detail. Using this book as a daily companion transformed my understanding of the rifle's development, role in both World Wars, and its continued use as a popular hunting rifle. The extensive research and knowledge exhibited by Brophy in the book are truly exceptional, and the extensive photo documentation really brings the subject to life. However, while the detailed and thorough nature of the content is one of the book's main draws, the sheer amount of information can be overwhelming for some readers. While this work is ideal for collectors and enthusiasts who seek a comprehensive reference, casual readers may find some sections difficult to navigate. In summary, The Springfield 1903 Rifles is a remarkable resource that delves deep into the history, production, and service of the iconic 1903 Springfield. With exceptional photo documentation and profound research, this book is a must-have for all collectors and aficionados of the 1903 Springfield Sporter Stock. https://preview.redd.it/zf1wwwovbx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0f507b40234822b7d2db168ffc6e2f3802d6ebb Discover the intricate world of firearm design and assembly through this fascinating book, specifically focusing on the inletting of gunstock blanks and modifications of the 1903 Springfield. As someone who's dabbled in gunsmithing, I found this book to be a valuable resource. One of the features that stood out for me was the detailed illustrations and step-by-step instructions. They were easy to follow and allowed me to learn the intricacies of inletting gunstocks. The format of the book, in particular the hardcover edition, is another positive aspect. It lends a sense of sturdiness and durability. However, there are a couple of downsides to note. Firstly, the language of the book is German, which might be challenging for some English-speaking readers. Additionally, a significant number of pages are dedicated to the history of the 1903 Springfield, which may not be as relevant for those purely interested in gunsmithing techniques. Despite these minor drawbacks, this book is an essential addition to any gunsmith's library. Its practical insights make it worth the read, even if you're not a seasoned pro. https://preview.redd.it/eqh5snuvbx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=608a72559f2aed8a85ec68eab7b169f150e825c9 I recently picked up "United States Rifles and Machine Guns: A Detailed Account. . " and let me tell you, it has been quite an intriguing journey through the history of firearms manufacturing. The book itself is a hardback, giving it a solid feel and a sense of durability that I appreciate. Diving into the content, I was immediately captivated by the meticulously detailed descriptions of the methods used to create the iconic Springfield, 1903 Model Service Rifle. The author leaves no stone unturned - from the fixture details to the man power and machinery employed, it's all laid out for the reader. As a true enthusiast, this wealth of information has been both educational and enjoyable. That being said, there are a couple of areas where the experience could have been even better. Firstly, the shipping and delivery process was considerably slow. It's a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but it's worth mentioning nonetheless. Secondly, while the book is replete with fascinating information on the history and creation of these firearms, I found it lacked an engaging narrative that would have brought the story to life in a more captivating way. Despite this, the book remains an invaluable resource for anyone with an interest in the manufacturing process of these historic pieces. Overall, though, "United States Rifles and Machine Guns. . " is a well-researched and comprehensive guide for anyone looking to learn more about the evolution of firearms manufacturing in the United States. https://preview.redd.it/cgu5jc5wbx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e6754d1ae414e5eca69f6a18a6109ee82226dee I recently came across "The M1903 Springfield Performance Tuning Manual" while looking for tips on how to optimize my vintage hunting rifle. As a first-time gun enthusiast, I was eager to learn more about this classic firearm and its potential for accuracy. The book dives deep into the world of the M1903, providing a wealth of information on the rifle's history and how to care for it properly. From cleaning techniques to action tuning, the author leaves no stone unturned. I particularly appreciated the section on choosing the right ammunition for my rifle, as it helped me understand the importance of customizing my firearm to suit my needs. However, there were a few aspects that I found less engaging. Firstly, while the book is filled with photos, they are mostly of the author's own firearms, which may not be as visually appealing or representative as professional photographs. Secondly, the section on stock modifications felt a bit overwhelming, with so many options available it was challenging to decipher which one would be best for my rifle. Despite these minor drawbacks, "The M1903 Springfield Performance Tuning Manual" has been an invaluable resource for me, providing both practical knowledge and expert tips on how to improve the performance of my vintage hunting rifle. It's a must-read for anyone interested in this classic firearm, regardless of their level of experience. Buyer's Guide Welcome to our comprehensive buyer's guide for 1903 Springfield Sporter Stocks. Every choice in this video was wilder than the last. ~Recap~ - May started with Alec appearing on the âOur Way with Paul Anka and Skip Bronsonâ podcast. - Some lowlights:
On Having More Kids & Moving to Vermont Alec: Well, in my family now, I'm the only person I know who drops four kids off at school in the morning and comes home and I still have three kids waiting for me. When I get home, I have seven - I have eight children. Ireland, my oldest daughter who's married, Ireland has a baby, and she and her boyfriend are living in Oregon. And I met my wife and I got remarried and I had seven kids in nine years. It's crazy. (I think you meant to say, âmy wife is batshit crazy.â The devil is in the details, Zander) And then, all of a sudden, I met my wife, who I love dearly, (I think he repeats this in virtually every interview to counter the years of talking shit about Kim Basinger) every time the baby would get to be two years old, weâd go, maybe it's time for one more baby, one more baby, so we have seven kids. But we're actually selling our house, moving to Vermont. We bought a place in Vermont, and I'm trying to get everybody to start to acclimate up thereâŚI think my wife wants a little change of scenery now, it's so crowded out hereâŚI love Vermont. It's so peaceful. We got a great deal. We got fifty-five acres; house was built in 1792. It's very pretty. The Kids Want Alec Around All the Time Host: What do you do away from your family? Meaning, do you play golf? Do you play tennis? Alec: I play tennis all summer...The thing that's happened in these last ten years, especially the last three or four years, is my kids are used to me being aroundâŚI mean they really rely on that⌠when I'm gone, they're like, you know, they're on FaceTime. If I travel to go away for a couple of days to get a paycheck, theyâre on my FaceTime going you know, where are you? What are you doing? You know, they're completely baffled when I go away. ( God bless those kiddos and Iâm preeetttttty sure they rely on Leonela/Leonetta a whole lot.) Drug & Alcohol Use Alec: Every day for two years, I think I snorted a line of cocaine from here to Saturn. We did one on the rings of Saturn. Then we came home. We took it back home. I mean, cocaine was like coffee back and everybody was doing it all day. I did a lot of coke and then I and then February 23rd, 1985âŚI stopped doing drugs and my drinking increased, which is they tell you that's going to happen, and that did happen. I just started drinking. I mean, and the thing, I miss drinking. I don't miss drugs at all, but I do miss drinking. I like to drink. (I appreciate next to nothing about this man, but I appreciate the honesty of this statement). Host: But because you don't drink, and because you don't do drugs, what do you do? Do you meditate? What do you do to deal with the pressures of the outside, you know, forces, (I think you mean âlawsuitsâ, Paul) what do you do to get away from that? Alec: (deadpan) Drink. I drink. I lied; I've been drinking nonstop since 1985. I lie. I tell people I'm sober and I drink my balls off. (Laughs) But no, I do miss drinking, I must sayâŚNew York relaxes me. I walk around and I see aspects of it that I've never seen before. I look at a building and I'll go, my god, I never noticed that about that building. Those doors. You know. New York is like a European city. You walk around and keep your eyes open. And I have lunches and coffee with my friends. (Um is he talking about the owner of Madman Espresso? Because thatâs the only coffee related person weâve ever seen him around.) And, I'd like to get out of here because the city is chaotic. (But also relaxing? What the hell?) But we live in the village. It's a little bit more residential. I love New York. I go to the symphony and the opera and the ballet all the time, you know, pretty regularly. But I do try to meditate. Meditating with seven children is like trying to play ping pong on the deck of an aircraft. It's a real pain in the ass. (But they rely on you, Alec?!?!) - Back on IG, Alec commented on a video that Ireland posted of Kim Basinger and Irelandâs partner, AndrĂŠ, playing with baby Holland, apparently in the backyard of Kimâs home. The doting abueloâs comment was âI know that pool deck!â â dude, say something, ANYTHING, about your daughterâs child.
He probably screamed at poor Kim on that pool deck. An irate comment on Alec's IG: \"I cannot believe he is wearing street shoes on those floors!\" Now deleted. - People magazine published a puff piece entitled âAlec Baldwin Is 'Understandably Worried' as His Rust Involuntary Manslaughter Trial Loomsâ (Exclusive Source). Hereâs the entirely of what the
exclusive source Yoel had to say: - "Alec is stressed. He is understandably worried."
- "He has an excellent legal team. I don't think anyone is thinking jail time but given the decision for Ms. Gutierrez-Reed itâs hard to know."
- "You have to understand that at the end of the day Alec is a professional actor, so when he's on set, you wind him up, you say action, he pulls out the gun and does whatever he's supposed to do on his job. Then suddenly he's facing criminal charges. It's like, how did that even happen?"
- In real news, the manslaughter charging document was released â interesting read!
- Surprisingly, Alec did not post a tribute to his wife to honor her âmi cultura upbringingâ on the first Sunday in May - when it's celebrated in Spain.
- On May 6th, Alecâs
lawyers vultures-for-hire filed additional motions to have the case dismissed while Said the Pap for hire posted a pic of himself with Crackhead Barney (who was wearing not much besides some Daisy Dukes a la Hillary Lynn) and Alec was spotted in the wild (with a nanny in tow, because only the peasants walk around without staff). Imagine having to listen to this guy bloviate in addition to raising his kids. - Rory Kenndyâs lawyers responded to a subpoena issued April 19th to provide video/audio of the Baldwin documentary in the works. Kennedyâs team responded that:
- Hillary decided to break her tradition of starting the month with a dose of crazy and eased into May on the 9th with the first of 5 posts for the month: a story of her two youngest girls captioned âsisters.â Suuuuuuuuper coincidentally, yâall, this is the day Hailey and Justin Bieber announced that they are having a baby. Like, what are the odds, right? Also, StepTĂa Hilly did not like Haileyâs post (but 11M others did).
A pepino prayer: Lord, keep the nannies safe and sane. Amen. - Over on his scintillating IG account, Alec posted the news that he will be co-directing a production of Macbeth with Geoffrey Horne for Shakespeare Downtown this summer. Good thing this will be in June, because there might be a bit of a scheduling conflict for Alec in July.
- Alec posted two pictures of Edu: one totally scrunched in a too-small stroller and one making the patented Baldwin duck lips. Against all logic, the pic of the kid perched on a tiny stroller became the picture Alec chose as his new profile pic.
- On Motherâs Day, Alec dug deep, looked back on his grid, landed on this picture he first posted in December 2023 and said, âthis is the one!â It features Alec, his wife, one of their 7 kids, two very hungry caterpillars, and stars the ubiquitous Madman Espresso single use coffee cup. ÂĄFeliz dĂa de la madre, HĂlĂĄrĂĂĄ!
Low effort personified. Obsessed with the one and only comment this video garnered: âwhatâs the stethoscope for?â Oh Daniel, where to begin? \"To be honest\" is not a phrase typically associated with Grifty McGrifter. - The day a judge heard the motion to throw out Alecâs indictment was also Romeo's birthday so Hillary posted a story (#2 of 5 posts) of her, Alec, and the birthday boy as well as a grid video collage set to John Lennonâs âBeautiful Boyâ (#3 of 5 posts) â a solid choice, nothing bad to say here. Alec, on the other hand, did not make a happy birthday post but found time to repost a âCrush the Canâ fundraising campaign video from the Baldwin Fund. These videos are not good, if only they had connections to folks the filmmaking industryâŚ
Bye, Wig! - A public service announcement for the Reddit Cares brigade: not posting about a kidâs birthday on IG or not liking a family memberâs IG post is not usually an issue. I am well aware that countless people live offline and exchange private messages; however, we are gathered here today and most days to talk about Alec and âHilariaâ Baldwin. They use social media, and IG in particular to cultivate a brand/façade/public persona. Given that, liking/not liking or posting/not posting is of note. This concludes our announcement.
- Listen, at this point in the game, I am HERE for Said the Pap. I am just going to lean into the theory that heâs an agent of chaos and a savvy social critic because this picture is a true gift to this sub. Live long and prosper, amigo.
Tiny. Baby. Sewer. Slippers. And is she holding a phone?? Call for help, sweet pea. - On the day of Holland's first birthday, StepAbuela Hilly posted a âcandidâ shot of her and her three oldest boys, skipping through NYC in a light rain (post #4 of 5). When I tell you I cranked up the Gypsy Kings, poured a sangria, and flamenco flurried my way over to the comments â and was delighted:
- u/FamousOhioAppleHorn: When I see a woman dressed like that in FL, I know she's gonna buy 5 Hour Energy, cigs and scratch off tickets while telling everyone her entire life story.
- u/NightOwlsUnite: Subway...in fucking slippers. She's a walking germ factory. If and when the next pandemic hits, thank her.
- u/smallpepino: Typhoid Larry.
- u/Sun_will_rise_again: Those slippers are going to walk themselves to the trashâŚ. Theyâre DONE, theyâve been through enough đŽ Also this looks like something Britney Spears would writeâŚ. Just a jumble of random shit.
- u/ ca17miledrive: There she is again. The Dope of Greenwich Village.
- u/MallorcanMalarkey: The rain in Spain falls mainly on the insane.
So many pockets, so little sense. - Since Hilly is being so shy about showing her face. Itâs a good thing the trusty folks at the Daily Mail have no such qualms. Alec and Guest Baldwin attended the 25th anniversary of a pretentious restaurant that gleefully reposted a picture of the duo calling them âamazing stars.â Restaurant Sirs, you have been bamboozled.
Maybe she should have kept the sweatshirt from the other day on her head? MichWho was also there- if only Hillary's mallet could tap some life into the frozen tundra of Mich's mask/face. - Also, is this iteration of Hillaryâs face giving Danielle Staub and/or Countess LuAnn vibes, or no?
Does one just ask for the squinty and taut special? \"PeePaw\" just about took me out. - The next day a New Mexico judicial district judge denied the motion to dismiss the involuntary manslaughter case. This means that Alec must stand trial in July; sometimes the judicial system works in the interest of fairness. If nothing else, it is gratifying to know that he is spending through the nose to mount this legal defense.
- With her usual ham-fisted timing, Hilz got to work and posted a grid video of Alec showing his phone to Ilaria Sin Hache (props to u/Longjumping-Stage647 for the moniker). Itâs cute â who doesnât love a baby in a onesie trying to talk and toddling around? Hilz for damn sure knows the value of her âvending machine of joyâ and captioned her video: âI want dada, I want dadaââŚ.shes talking more and more. This is her first sentence đ¤. They love watching puppies together. The sweet things we are grateful forâŚthat laughter. It calms the heart â
ď¸â
23,791 of Hillaryâs 989K followers liked this video. - Hilz responded to some comments and then a few zingers found their mark:
- Commenter 1: Daddyâs little girl đđđđ
- Hillary: âdefâŚI was a little jealousâŚall our other 6 said mama first, but this one said dada đ. All kidding asideâŚitâs such a beautiful relationship. Gives him life and strength â¤ď¸â
- Commenter 2: Such a sweet little one. I miss your updates. Come back â¤ď¸
- Hillary: I willâŚI promise đ
- Commenter 3: This is a cute sitcom. Far from reality as many things on social media. But cute and happy, and that is what we want to see. Not the maids, fights, and tantrums
- Commenter 4: Awe so cute! Grandparents are the best!!!
- May 26th was the two-year anniversary of Carol Baldwinâs passing and Alec posted a picture of the two of them captioned (verbatim): âtwo years ago today Your work continuesWe all miss youâ
Alec was more effusive in his RIP post about Sam Rubin, an LA entertainment reporter who passed, than about Carol. - I offer you Billy Baldwinâs caption for the picture of himself and his mother the same day:
- My Mom: Honey... HOOOOONNEEEEYY!!!
- Me: Yeah Mom!!!
- My Mom: Do me a favor??
- Me: Sure Mom.
- My Mom: Go grab me the... the... the whatchamacallit?
- Me: The what?
- My Mom: You know... the thingamajig that has that little doohickey on the side. It's in the kitchen junk drawer next to the whooziwhats!!!
- This never meant the same thing twice but every time she said it... I knew exactly what she wanted. Gone two years today. Smart, funny, tough, wacky, wild... and a heart of gold. Miss you dearest Mama!!! âĽď¸
- Maybe Alec couldnât focus on a more heartfelt tribute to his mother because was distracted by his wifeâs unusual move of taking an Uber â quite normal for many but for Hillary My Ancestors Arrived on the Mayflower Hayward- Thomas, itâs usually a private car double parked for maximum chaos or sewer slippers slapping against the grime of NYC sidewalks, so this middle ground must have been confusing for PeePaw.
Your body is nice, Hillary. You don't need the alien appendages on the right or the multiple bras at once on the left. - Alecâs defense team added 9 new witnesses on the last day they were permitted to do so (5/6/24) and did not provide witness statements. Prosecutors argued that this was done in bad faith and that âthe State has now been prejudiced by the defendant's strategy to gain a tactical advantage as the State is unable to file pretrial motions as it relates to the new witnesses, is unable to properly investigate the statements of the witnesses and list its own new witnesses to refute the testimony of the belatedly disclosed witnesses.â So on 5/31, the prosecutors moved to exclude the witnesses from the trial. Stay tunedâŚ
- As this legal mess was going down, Alec and Hillary made their signature move: a staged pap walk in NYC wearing ill-fitting clothes, clutching phones and Madman Espresso products. How the mightily mediocre have fallenâŚ

My Blood Covenant Salvation Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus Christ. I believe You love me and sent Your Son to remove the sin which separates me from You. Father, I repent of all sin in my life. Please forgive me and cleanse me by the blood of Jesus Christ. By faith, I receive Your forgiveness and cleansing in Jesusâ name. Your Word says I am brought near to You by the blood of Jesus Christ, through which I enter into blood covenant salvation relationship with You now. Lord Jesus, I invite You to come into my life, and I submit totally to You and to Your Word (John 14:23). I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. I believe in my heart God raised Him from the dead. It is with my heart I believe and am justified, and it is with my mouth I confess and am saved (Rom.10:9-10). I ask You to be Lord of my spirit, my soul (mind, thoughts, will, intellect, and emotions), and my body (I Thess.5:23). You are faithful to complete the work You have begun in me (Phil 1:6). By faith, I confess sin shall no longer have dominion over me because your Holy Spirit lives in me. I confess I am saved. I am under covenant through Jesus Christ to receive the promises that are for me including salvation, deliverance, healing, renewal, and all Godâs promises for His children. I renounce the authority of Satan or any authority other than Jesus Christ over all areas of my life. I renounce every stronghold or influence of the devil, including ungodly soul ties, masonic attachments, ungodly beliefs, bitter root judgments, all personal sin, and everything inherited through the generations. The Word tells me I have a heavenly Father, and I now inherit only from Him. Lord, empower me to live for You. Release the Holy Spirit within me, that He may convict me of sin. I have access to the power of the Holy Spirit and the right to every spiritual gift (1 Cor. 12:4-11). Help me walk daily in the fullness of the Spirit filled life. I open my heart and ask You to fill me now with Your Holy Spirit. In Jesusâ Name, Amen.
Prayer to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit
Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus, Your Son, Who has saved me. I repent of my sins and ask You to wash me clean by the Blood of Jesus. Jesus said, âAnd I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, IntercessorâCounselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you foreverâthe Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.â John 14:16 (AMP) In Mark 1:8, John the Baptist promised that while he baptized with water, You would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. So, Lord, I ask You to baptize me with Your Holy Spirit and fire. I am thankful as I ask for your empowerment and fire, it will refine me into who you have called and created me to be. I know You indwelled me at my salvation (John 20:22; Romans 8:9). Now, I ask You to fill me to overflowing with Your Presence, Your power, and Your joy. You promised in Acts 1:5-8 that Your disciples would receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit would come upon us. You promised to give us power to be Your witnesses even to the ends of the earth. This wonderful promise was fulfilled at the Feast of Pentecost in Jerusalem, as described in Acts 2. I pray the Holy Spirit come upon me now. I yield myself to You. I pray you breathe on me a breath of refreshment and empowerment. I receive by faith the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I welcome you, Holy Spirit, in the Name of Jesus. Thank You for empowering me for Your service. Fill me with boldness and courage to speak Your Word with power. I receive this wonderful empowerment by faith. As promised in John 14:26, send me the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, to teach me all things and remind me of everything You teach in Your Word. I desire spiritual gifts according to Your Word and ask You to grant me Your spiritual giftings according to Your will for my life. I joyfully accept Your gifts for me, in Jesusâ Name.
Prayer to Break Generational Curses and Sins of the Bloodlines:
Dear Heavenly Father: Thank you that the blood of Jesus is able to take away all sin. I believe this and receive it now in Jesusâ name. I pray forgiveness for the sins of my father, of that bloodline for all generations back, and I ask You to wash me clean now, by the blood of the Lamb. I pray forgiveness for the sins of my mother, of that bloodline for all generations back, and I ask You to wash me clean now, by the blood of the Lamb. I receive Your forgiveness and believe that by Your blood I am cleansed from the sins of all my generational bloodlines. I take the authority I have in my blood covenant with Jesus Christ, and I break all generational curses on my father's side all generations back, broken now, by the blood of the Lamb. I take this same authority and break all generational curses on my mother's side, all generations back, broken now, by the blood of the Lamb. With this same authority I have under the blood covenant of salvation in Jesus, I break any spoken curses on my family bloodline. I break the power of all seals of silence and all vows of secrecy. I take the same authority in the name and the blood of Jesus, and I break all covenants and contracts to satan including blood covenant contracts. I pray forgiveness for the sins of my family line of all those things that happened in darkness, such as any attachment to slavery or any kind of persecution or mistreatment or abuse of any people groups or individuals, and I pray blessings on all descendants of the persecuted groups or individuals. I pray forgiveness for the sin of all idolatries attached to the American Indian bloodline and break all related curses. I break any attachments to family superstitions and idolatries, ungodly beliefs, wives tales, luck charms, and rhyme curses in Jesusâ name. Thank you, Jesus, that Your word says, "Cursed is the one who hangs on the tree." You took our curses, and You took our sins, so that we can have life more abundantly, and we praise you for it. I receive by faith now all generational sins and all generational curses are broken by the blood of the Lamb, in Jesusâ Name. Amen.
Prayer to Break Ungodly Soul Ties
Father, in the name of Jesus, I submit my soul, my desires, my will, and my emotions to the Holy Spirit and Your Word. I confess as sin all of my sexual relationships before marriage and any sexual relationships outside of marriage. I confess as sin all ungodly relationships involving any part of me, whether spirit, soul, or body. Father, I thank You for giving me the keys of Your kingdom and the keys of spiritual authority. What I bind is bound, and what I loose is loosed (Matthew 16:19). I ask You to loosen from me all soul ties to past sexual partners and ungodly relationships in Jesus' name. Please uproot all tentacles of sexual bondage, emotional longings, dependencies, vain imaginations, enslaving thoughts, and thought patterns. I bind, renounce, and resist any evil spirits that have been reinforced through those soul ties or may have been transferred to me through ungodly associations or promiscuity. I also repent of the sin of the idolatry attached to my pursuit of perversion. Jeremiah 2:20-25 says that my Heavenly Father's perception of this perversion that I have been pursuing is that I will not serve him, and I love foreign gods, and I must go after them. Therefore, I repent of the sin of this idolatry, and I apply the blood of Jesus to it now. I submit to the Lord Jesus Christ and to His Word that tells me that I must forgive so that I will be forgiven. I repent of the sin of unforgiveness and judgment toward the people who have violated me sexually due to incest, molestation, or rape. I choose to forgive and bless them, and I break any soul tie attachments to these people in Jesus' name. Please cleanse my soul with Your blood, renew my mind, and help me to forget all illicit unions so that I am free to give myself, body, soul, and spirit, totally to You. Father, I receive Your forgiveness for all past sins of ungodly soul ties and unrighteous sexual activity. I believe that by Your grace, I am forgiven. Thank You for remembering my sins no more and for cleansing me from all unrighteousness. I commit myself totally to You. By Your grace, please keep me holy in my spirit, soul, and body, as I choose to renew my mind in Christ (Romans 12:1-2). In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Release of Bitter Root Judgment and Expectancy
Dear Heavenly Father: In the Name of Jesus, I repent for the sin of judging Your creation. I have judged and condemned others, although I am not a righteous judge and have no right to judge anyone. Jesus committed no sin, and was righteous, but He judged no one. Jesus entrusted Himself to You, the One who judges righteously. I now entrust myself to You. Please forgive me for this sin of judging and condemning others. I now bless those who I have judged. I bless those I have accused. I bless those who hate me and have cursed or abused me. I break the power of the spiritual law of sowing and reaping. I forgive, release, and bless them. I ask You to bless them and give them what they need. With this change in me comes a new expectation of reaping blessings, as opposed to reaping curses. When I âsowâ differently, I will âreapâ differently. I now intend to sow blessings into my life by blessing those people who have despitefully used me, in Jesusâs Name. Thank You, Lord, for forgiving me and helping me to forgive others. I ask these things in the Name of Jesus Christ. SCRIPTURES Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Gal. 6:7 Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Matt. 7:1-2 See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Heb. 12:15 Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Deut. 5:16 Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:37-38 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Romans 2:1 This is what the Lord says-the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: Concerning things to come, do you question me about my children, or give me orders about the work of my hands? Isaiah 45:11
Prayer of repentance of personal sin
Dear Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I repent of all personal sin in my life. I ask You to forgive me and cleanse me. Some areas of sin I know; other areas of sin I do not recognize. But Your Word promises You are faithful and just to forgive all our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. I ask You to reveal all areas of personal sin, known and unknown, so I may more deeply repent. Your sheep hear Your voice. You will speak to my heart and mind, and I will hear You. If there are areas in which I am perishing for a lack of knowledge, I ask You to reveal Your truth to me. In Jesusâ Name, I will not reject Your truth. I specifically repent of anger, pride, perversion, idolatry, addiction, greed, fear, control, manipulation, judgment, accusation, gossip (here insert area of specific sin or sins, such as fear of lack, fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of success, etc.) Convict me of my sin, O God, so I may see my sin and repent to the depths of my soul. There is no righteousness in me on my own, but I am made righteous by the Blood of Jesus. Your Word promises that as we repent, we step into the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Your mercy is great toward me, and You will freely pardon. As far as the east is from the west, so far have You removed my transgressions from me. By Your Holy Spirit, empower me to overcome personal sin in my life. I confess I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The prayer of a righteous person will avail much. Show me Your ways, that I may know You more and walk in Your ways all the days of my life, in Jesusâ Name.
Prayer to Release and Remove Ungodly Thought Processes, Mindsets, Devices, Defense Mechanisms, and Wrong or Unbiblical Reactions
Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I _____________ ask You to forgive me for the sin of failing to cast my cares upon You because I did not know how to cast my cares upon You. There have been times in my life when I suffered from a lack of knowledge of knowing how to handle life's situations, difficulties, decisions, traumas, and not casting my cares upon Jesus as Your Word says to do. I confess I have used ungodly thought processes, mindsets, devices, defense mechanisms, and wrong or unbiblical reactions. I confess that I sought to handle and control my own problems in my own ways. I devised methods and systems for my self-preservation. Now, I choose to ask You, Lord, to gather and remove the devices I have created and used to get through life's difficult circumstances. I repent for the control I used in creating these devices instead of trusting in You. I release all control, anger, revenge, unforgiveness, and judgments, and all altered states of mind into which I entered to handle trauma in my life. I relinquish my self-preservation, and I trust You for my life and choices. I release to You all trauma, known and unknown. I bind and break the power of all soul tie attachments, longings, emotional bondage, enslaving thought patterns, and dependencies in the name of Jesus Christ. I now purpose in my heart not to reenter these altered states of mind, devices, and mindsets that I have become accustomed to using. I pray in the name of Jesus that You give me the renewal of mind to recognize these devices when they reappear due to life's circumstances. I release to You all disappointment, bitterness, and resentment about my past. I choose to renew my mind through the ongoing study of Your Word. I choose Your truth instead of altered states of mind that have caused me to revisit painful feelings or paralyze and distort my response to abuse or other behavior patterns toward me. So, I speak to all altered states of mind, ungodly thought processes, mindsets, defense mechanisms, devices, and conditioned reactions. I command all such devices to align themselves with the Word of God and release their power over me, my mind, my emotions, my personality, and align with my will in the name of Jesus Christ. I desire as the head and not the tail (Deut. 28:13) to have Jesus Christ and Your Holy Spirit come into me and restore my soul. I forgive, release, and bless everyone who has hurt, abused, or misled me. I repent and ask forgiveness for the sin of carrying any unforgiveness or judgment toward these people. I ask You to bless them and give them what they need. Please bring me into a place where I am fully restored and made whole in spirit, soul, and body. I ask You to renew my mind so that I will not return to these old ways of thinking. I thank You for teaching me to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). I ask You to give me the renewed ability to maintain this fresh way of thinking for my new godly lifestyle. According to James 1, I can ask You, Lord, for wisdom, and You will give generously to all without finding fault. I ask that You give me the wisdom to maintain godly thought processes in this new season of my life and not return to the old, ungodly thought processes. I desire that all of me be able to worship You in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24). I desire to worship You with a sound mind, undivided heart, and clarity. I thank You and ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
PRAYER TO BREAK WORD CURSES
Dear Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus, I take the authority I have received through my blood covenant of salvation by accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I bind and break the power of all spells, curses, and incantations spoken over my life from any source, including my family, church relationships, work relationships, friends, enemies, known demonic sources, strategies of the enemy using any sources, and all word curses from known or unknown sources. I break the power of these curses and declare their functions null and void. I speak the mighty Name of Jesus Christ over these evil words. The Name of Jesus Christ is above every name. His Word is above every word. His power is above every other power or principality. I pray His Word over anyone who has knowingly or unknowingly cursed or abused me. And I pray, heavenly Father, that you bless them and give them what they need, in Jesusâ Name. I thank You, Lord, that You have the ability to hear the curse and turn it into a blessing. Amen.
PRAYER TO BREAK TERRITORIAL STRONGHOLDS ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR MISSIONARIES For Missionaries traveling and entering territorial strongholds in countries such as China, India, the Middle East, or Africa, especially if entering mausoleums, temples, shrines, or other places of heathen worship. Cover yourself with a prayer such as the following:
Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I take the authority I have received through my blood covenant of salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I thank You for teaching us our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12). I bind and break the power of any influence of territorial strongholds that may attempt to attach themselves to me as I embark on a journey to serve the Most High God. I bind and break the power of any spell, curse, or incantation from the spiritual realm empowered by the idolatrous and vain worship of Buddha, Hindu gods, Krishna, Allah, Mohammed, local deities, ancestor worship, necromancy, animism, voodoo, witchcraft, idols made with hands, or other false gods. I declare the power of all such forces aligned against me to be null & void. I bind and break the power of any influence of territorial strongholds that have become attached to me due to my service in ministry. I bind and break the power of any influence of territorial strongholds over the areas in which I travel, in which I serve in ministry, and in which I reside. From Satan to the Prince of Persia to the least of the territorial spirits, I speak the mighty name of Jesus Christ over them. I bind and break the power and influence of these territorial strongholds, and call their function null and void, in the name of Jesus Christ. I thank You that he who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91). The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe (Proverbs 18:10). And a curse without cause will not come to rest on me (Proverbs 26:2). I thank You that no weapon formed against me will prosper, and I will refute every tongue that accuses me. I thank You this is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is our vindication from You (Isaiah 54:17). Thank you, Jesus, for the power of Your name.
Prayer of Repentance for Prior Involvement in any Other Religion or Spiritual Practice or Teaching
Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I come before You. I praise You for making a way for the forgiveness of my sins. I acknowledge that Your Word requires that I repent and ask forgiveness for my sins, in Jesusâ Name. I acknowledge Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God, slain for the remission of my sins and the sins of the world. I acknowledge Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God. I believe He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, suffered and died on the cross, was buried, and rose again. He ascended into heaven, where He sits by His Father. Under my Blood Covenant of Salvation, through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I repent of the sin of believing any teaching that does not line up with the Holy Bible, the Word of God. The Scriptures say Jesus Christ became the Word of God (John 1:14; Revelation 19:13). Therefore, I repent of believing anti-christ teachings and entertaining anti-christ and unbiblical thoughts. With the authority I have in my Blood Covenant of Salvation with Jesus Christ, I break the power of all spoken or written oaths, curses, vows, decrees, chants, blood sacrifices, and rituals. I repent of the sin of receiving or aligning with these anti-christ oaths, curses, vows, or decrees. I repent of the sin of participating in any anti-christ chants, blood sacrifices, or rituals of any description. I repent of the sin of receiving any anti-christ attachments to my mind, intellect, heart, feelings, and emotions. I repent of the sin of receiving and agreeing with unbiblical principles, teachings, and spiritual deceptions. I acknowledge these have caused attacks on my physical body, mental wellbeing, relationships, and finances. I bind and break the power of all of these ungodly attachments in the mighty Name of Jesus. The Word tells me I am to forgive and bless those who persecute or despitefully use me, as Jesus forgave and blessed. (I Peter 2:21-23; Matthew 5:44). I repent of the sins of anger, unforgiveness, and judgment toward anyone who has mislead or misguided me in any way, in the Name and Blood of Jesus Christ. I pray that you bless them and open their eyes to your truth. Thank You, Heavenly Father, that through my acceptance of Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and my acknowledgement that He is the only Way to You, I become an heir to the promises of Abraham (Galatians 3:29). I stand in faith and believe that all Your promises are Yes and Amen, through Jesus Christ (II Corinthians 1:20). Amen.
PRAYER FOR MILITARY (Good for anyone)
Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I pray in the authority I have received through my blood covenant of salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord & Savior. Lord, I ask for Your mercy & protection as I travel in obedience to orders during my service in the Military. I acknowledge & repent of my sins. I ask You to forgive me & wash away my sin by the shed Blood of Jesus. Your Word says as I confess & repent of my sins, You are faithful & just to forgive me & purify me from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9). This causes my prayers to be righteous, powerful, & effective (James 5:16). I bind & break the power of every influence of territorial strongholds that have attached or seek to attach themselves to me as I serve in the Military. I bind & break the power of every influence & assignment from territorial strongholds & other demonic powers as I travel from place to place during training & tours of duty, & embark on every change of assignment & change of residence. I call the function of each of these territorial strongholds & demonic powers to be null & void. In the Name of Jesus, I bind & break the power of the devil, who was a murderer from the beginning and is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44). I bind & break the power of every such assignment of the devil that would cause or seek to cause physical injury, mental torment, or death to me. I bind & break every assignment of calamity, destruction, sudden death, & suicide by any person. I bind every lying tongue that would persuade a person to commit suicide. I call the function of every such demonic assignment null & void, in the mighty Name of Jesus. I bind & break the power of the enemy to steal the Lordâs call on my life or rob me of the blessings of His covenant promises, including health & a full life span (Exodus 23:25-26). Jesus stated, âThe thief comes only to steal & kill & destroy; I have come that they may have life, & have it to the full.â (John 10:10). Thank You, Jesus, for health and a full life span. LORD, (you) are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the LORD, & he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down & sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. Arise, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. (Psalm 3). Lord, You know when I sit & when I rise; You discern my going out & my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways (Psalm 139:2-3). You will never leave or forsake me. (Deut.31:6; Hebrews 13:5) Lord, thank you for teaching us to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). I stand strong in the Lord & Your mighty power. I put on the full armor of God, so I can take my stand against the devilâs schemes. For our struggles are not against flesh & blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world & against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore I put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, I may be able to stand my ground, & after I have done everything, to stand. I stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around my waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, & with my feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, I take up the shield of faith, with which I can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. I take the helmet of salvation & the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And I pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers & requests. With this in mind, I am alert & always keep on praying for all of Your people. Thank You, Lord, for teaching me to pray & trust You for protection for my body, soul & spirit (1Thess.5:23). I thank You that no weapon formed against me will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). In the mighty Name of Jesus Christ, I bind & break the power of every spell, curse, blasphemy, & incantation from the spiritual realm empowered by the idolatrous & vain worship of Allah, Mohammed, Buddha, any Hindu deities, local deities on any continent, ancestor worship, necromancy, animism, voodoo, witchcraft, idols made with hands, or any other false gods. Further, I declare the power of all such spiritual forces aligned against me to be null & void. I declare I will dwell in the shelter of the most High & rest in the shadow of the Almighty. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I declare I will not fear for the terror by night, the arrow that flies by day, the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. I will say, âThe Lord is my refuge,â and I will make the Most High my dwelling, & no harm will overtake me, no disaster will come near my tent (Psalm 91:1-10). I declare null & void the assignment of post-traumatic stress disorder against me & all military personnel. I declare the threefold cord of feaanxiety & trauma & torment will not destroy us. I bind & break the power of all traumatic & stressful experiences of warfare. In the mighty Name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, I speak His peace, âAnd the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts & your minds in Christ Jesus.â (Philippians 4:7). Lord, I ask You for the continuing ability to cast my daily cares upon You, as You direct me to do: âcasting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, & all your concerns, once & for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, & watches over you very carefully]â I Peter 5:7 (Amplified). In the Name of Jesus, I declare these attacks will not destroy or harm my body, emotions, mind, or will. The enemyâs schemes for evil, terror, & ongoing torment in my life, I declare to be impotent before the Lord God Almighty in Heaven above. Lord, I stand on Your Word, which promises âFor God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and love, and a sound mind.â (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV). I ask these things in the Name of my Savior, Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, the Messiah of Israel.

2024.06.01 09:33 Leading_Eye_9416 are my standards hurting my options?
i found rpw in 2022 at 20 years old, i have done the work and i love the woman i am. i know i would be a fantastic girlfriend and eventual wife. but iâm still struggling to attract the type of man im looking for.
i want a man who is between the ages of 22-26, masculine, good career (not interested in men who work 9-5 but work their own hours and therefore in more control of their lives) ugentlemanly, consistent, confident in calm and grounded way, oving and sticks to his word. more superficially, itâs a man with great grooming habits, incredible hygiene and a sense of style (someone who can dress well) and takes pride in his appearance. goes to the gym and has a good body. not necessarily a 6 pack but iâm not attracted to men with big stomachs.
my preference stems from my father who i admire and respect a lot. heâs quite similar to what i have described too. i think this has shaped my preferences a lot because it has shown me that there are men who prioritise these things too.
as for me, because of the kind of parents i have and how i was raised and as a fashion and beauty enthusiast, i guess itâs no surprise that i have similar habits to them. i am attractive, thin with subtle curves and a nice bum but my boobs are average tho. i have hobbies, i can cook and take care of my apartment and living space.
i live alone and my parents support me financially and pay for my apartment and give me an allowance every month. i am looking for a job though!! i do get men approaching me but not my type. i wonder if my lack of employment is what makes the men i am attracted to hesitate to be with me? i wonder if i should consider enhancements? i donât think losing weight would be a good idea but maybe??
i did have the opportunity to date a man similar to what i described and it was such a validating experience. it almost felt like being in his presence commanded respect and admiration and it confirmed my very specific taste in men.
if youâre wondering if i have even tried to give men who donât fit my description a chance, i have! but the huge discrepancy in how we look is uncomfortable. the guy notices it, i notice it and others around us notice it too. i was on a date once and someone walked past my date and i and they laughed at my date and that also made me feel embarrassed.
he was kind, offered to take care of me when i was sick and very attentive and always paid for our dates but i unfortunately ended things because we looked so odd being out together in public and it didnât seem worth it to push through it for a man i wasnât attracted to. i have had a few experiences like this but that got me thinkingâŚ
i want to love a man. respect him and admire him, iâve experienced it before so i know itâs possible. i think i am a feminine, honest, kind and loving woman but i donât want to compromise what i need from a man but i wonder if this is all hindering my options and iâd love to hear how i can work through this?

2024.06.01 09:23 keyword-exactly Havana syndrome, v2k, Remote Neural Monitoring, Mkultra, Darpa, Mind control, Targeted individuals, gangstalking - a guide to the technology
Why am i writing this?
the purpose of this document is to raise awareness on the subject and provide a proper foundation of information to the public and those who may be targeted. These types of programs and technologies will become more and more common as time goes on and it may be difficult for some to get a handle on it without this information. This information is crucial in the early stages of exposure to this technology as it can help someone differentiate between schizophrenia, the voice of "god", a false conscience, an alien technology or any voice versus the actual technology being used on them. Having a trusted voice inside your head can be very dangerous and can have devastating effects on a person if they are being led the wrong way. Many dictatorship like countries have already adopted a very aggressive form of this technology, paired with their social values and strict policies it leaves millions of humans at the mercy and control of a small group of people. Behind closed doors this technology is at the forefront of government tools to use to control the population in a way that leaves them blameless.
what is this new technology?
This technology is an assortment of different directed energy weapons and a voice to skull technology that work together to project thoughts and hit the target with varying effects. The first one that most people will experience is a form of voice to skull which does exactly what it sounds like, it has the ability to project voices in your head and can be mistaken for one's "conscience" or the "voice of God" but is just a mix of human operator and conversational AI. This is usually accompanied by the same voice re-reading your internal monologue right back to you in real time. Directional voice is also commonly used, basically it sounds like someone is in the next room over or upstairs but this is just another illusion put in your head by the technology. The voice to skull âvoiceâ is a very advanced form of conversational AI programmed with specific scripts to fit the targets life situation and the "programs" goal for said individual. The rest of the time its the actual human operator, its about 80% AI 20% Human operator. Just as they can beam outside voices in your head they can also âsuggestâ or âinjectâ thoughts that will feel like your own thoughts but will present itself as an intruding thought, yes they know how to make you think things without you even being aware. The "program" will also use an assortement of directed energy weapons (DEW) which can cause headaches, brain zaps, heart palpitations and chest pains aswell as nausea, tinnitus, very realistic hallucinations and paralysis. Another tool used is a supressor which will essentially supress the brain by putting it into a sleep inertia like state and can be turned up or down, this can cause you to feel very sleepy and if you give in then it can put you to sleep. These tools can be combined to create various effects for example, using the supressor while raising the heartrate can cause a form of sleep paralysis while you are sleeping and so on. They can replicate almost all mental and physical health problems. Dreams are another field that this technology can manipulate with precision accuracy, dreams cannot be mistaken for anything but manipulation if you find yourself being targeted. There are hints of subconscious manipulation while you are asleep but there is not much information on this unfortunately. the program is a government level program therefore they will have access to suggest posts on the main social mediaâs that fits the targets situation in order to subconsciously adhere to the programs goal (instagram, Facebook, Meta apps) this fits the description for propaganda by repetition as they try to induce the illusory truth effect to double down on their goals for you. They are very well trained in psychological warfare and will use tactics like reverse psychology aswell as use/depend on cognitive biases against the target in tandem with all of these technologies.
the purpose
the purpose of this technology can vary depending on the target and the operator as well as which country it is happening in. there are a multitude of "programs" from research programs that aim to test new and existing methods and technologies on humans, this type of program is unlikely to be used on the civilian population as much as the other programs. Research programs will often leave its victims in a very disabled state often mistaken for severe mental and physical health issues. Re-education programs are used to control the population in a way to modify behavior and beliefs of the population to allign with the values and beliefs of the government that is conducting the program. Monitoring programs which are used to monitor persons of interest for potential criminal activity. People will typically fall into one or multiple programs. There is no way to tell how people are chosen for these programs.
How it works
I will begin by explaining how these different technologies work, in simple terms. The voice to skull technology essentially is a 2 way channel in which the individual and the operatoAI can communicate via thought. To achieve this, brain reading is paired with a form of microwave hearing (Extremely low frequency). the way they read thoughts is the brain will give off specific electrical signals with each thought and action and this technology can read your thoughts with a beam - probe like device that is constantly on, pointed at you and collecting your brains electrical data and translating it. They have algorithms that can decipher these specific brain signals and turn it into text which consequentially has given them a v2k word dictionary to refer to. the microwave hearing is done by sending Extremely Low Frequency energy to the skull with which is then transduced by the cochlea and in turn enables the "hearing" of voices. The âAIâ or âalgorithmâ or âcomputer programâ used is programmed with âNatural language processingâ or NLP which is a field of artificial intelligence that focuses on interaction between humans and computers using language and what this means is it can interpret, understand and generate human language. This AI will talk to you 24/7 using this 2 way channel until a human takes over. This technology is also capable of thought insertion/suggestion and this will often present itself as very intruding thoughts that are abnormal to your day to day thought process but can be anything, it will also learn how you think and try to suggest things you normally think of to attempt a version of âmind controlâ which is done in a similar fashion to the v2k but is sent directly to the brain and not through the cochlea, no specific information on how this is administered unfortunately. The suppressor is essentially an Extremely Low Frequency Electromagnetic field and will induce theta brainwaves to make you sleepy this is why sometimes in the dark you will see small phosphenes or âspeckles of lightâ. Directed energy weapons can be classed into many subclasses, the ones i am referring to are the more subtle weapons meant for targeting, disabling and harming biological beings with brain zaps as-well as headaches and fever like symptoms. Headaches are caused by an overload of radio frequency energy sent directly to the brain causing the brain to slowly expand which causes the headaches (this is why during v2k you will sometimes get headaches). Brain zaps are caused via electromagnetic pulse and can be programmed into your v2k algorithm to deter you from thinking of something they do not want you to think of, it will (if left unchecked) work in their favor. The symptoms of fever are induced by actually raising your body heat through RF directed energy, they refer to this as âRF incapacitationâ and the effects can differ but people become less aggressive or more aggressive depending on the person and this can be used to amplify or reduce certain emotional reactions.
Please note that the technology of today is more advanced then what is listed on these patents, its just to show you that alot of this was possible a very long time ago.
tips :
Here i will list a couple tips to deal with these programs and technologies altough there is no straightforward solution yet these will help.
Inform yourself on how it works, do alot of digging and verify the information with other sources.
Music
Meditation
Exercise
Being outdoors
Staying off of social media.
Staying sober (very important)
Using the v2kâs natural language processing faults against it. There will Be a second document outlining this process soon.
Below i will include some useful links & patents
Here are some important patents:
US patent 4958638A (monitor vitals from a distance)
US Patent 20160375220A1 (Method to maintain peace through electromagnetic energy targeted to the brain)
US Patent 8049173B1 (this is what shows your location in real time)
US Patent 6470214B1 (voice to skull, assigned to U.S airforce in 1997)

2024.06.01 09:17 Yurii_S_Kh âRarely Have I Seen a Man So Noble as Fr. Dionisieâ. Elder Dionisie the Athonite, Part 2
| Radu Hagiu For the 20th anniversary of the repose of the holy and Venerable Dionisie of Romania and Mt. Athos (1909â2004), who will be canonized in 2025. The following article was originally published in âFamilia Ortodoxaâ No. 5 (64), May 2014. Cell of the Great Martyr George at Colciu Skete. Photo: Fr. Silviu Cluc â So you can direct your mind and it will be closer to God, foreverâŚâ In 1965, when Fr. Gimnazie departed to the Lord, his beloved brother in flesh and spirit Fr. Dionisie was forced to take the wholeburden of the priesthood and spiritual fatherhood upon his shoulders; and in 1979, when Fr. Gedeon also reposed, he became the abbot of the cell, according to the rules of the Holy Mountain. Father described the order of the ascetic life: Itâs exactly the same in the cells as it is in the monastery. You have a set time when you have to go read Vespers. Thereâs an appointed time after Vespers when you can refresh yourself with some food; a set time after dinner when you go read Compline. After that you go to your cell, and if there are a few hours left before you have to go to church, then you read the lives of the saints, that is, spiritual books that a monk needs to knowâthe lives of all the ascetics of piety. And you definitely have to complete your usual rule before the church bell starts to ring. You make 150 prostrations and go twelve times around your prayer rope with bows from the waist. It takes an hour or so. You should commune of the Holy Mysteries once every two weeks, because thatâs how it was when I came to the Holy Mountain. After the service on Friday morning, you had to go tell your confessor about your thoughts, how you sinned, what you did. After you confess, go back to your cell and read the rule for Communion, This is what he had to say about the rule of the Jesus Prayer: In the Cell of St. Anna, the old-timer monks say that at the large skete, they would fulfill their rule and even the Vigil by praying the Jesus Prayer. Out loud. It was for everyone. They would go out to the middle of the church one by one and pray: âLord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us. Lord Jesus ChristâŚâ And the other monks would listen attentively, not dozing. Then one of the fathers, adorned with grace, saw the Savior descend to the middle of the church and stand there, listening to their prayers. Therefore, we have to say the Jesus Prayer. If a man, a monk, would say, âLord Jesus Christ,â with every breath, then little by little he would learn noetic prayer and be adorned with it. Now it may be impossible for us to achieve noetic prayer, but to say the Jesus Prayer all day is the most blessed work. The enemy hears it and canât draw near to you. At the end of the twentieth century, with the arrival of Elder Joseph to Vatopedi Monastery and with the new flourishing of cenobitic life there, Colciu Skete also saw a multiplication of the number of monks, which rejuvenated and strengthened the old brotherhood. A little later, God permitted a new trial for Fr. Dionisie: He lost his sight. Although he found it difficult to bear, as he was very physically active, Father later said: âI prayed to the Mother of God to send me a gift: that I wouldnât grumble from this blindness, and that she would have mercy on me. Now sheâs made it clear to me that the state Iâm in is good for me. And now Iâm calm. It was and is useful for me to be like this.â One of the few consolations left to Fr. Dionisie after he went blind was to sit on a bench near his cell and listen to the sounds of nature: âWhen I listen for a bit, this is my consolation. Because if you canât see anymore, then how can you rejoice? You have no joy at all. How many photos, how many icons I could see⌠but how to rejoice if you canât see? But thank God! May God help us; may He fulfill my desire for holy salvation!â â Rarely have I seen a man so noble as Fr. Dionisieâ Archimandrite Ephraim, abbot of Vatopedi Monastery, with Elder Dionisie on the threshold of his cell Fr. Dionisie gave rest to whomever knocked on the door of his cell. Romanians, Greeks, Russians, Bulgarians, laymen and monks coming from the most unexpected corners of the world would receive an answer to their existential questions and counsel and help to know the depths of their hearts and acquire peace. The Elder wasnât like the sages of this age, and strictly speaking, he had no education; he spoke to everyone according to their needs. And as we knew him and understood him, three virtues remained in our hearts that he, whether by word or through his life, humbly placed before those who came to him thirsting to hear words of eternal life. And these three virtues are obedience, patience in tribulations, and humblemindedness, recalls Archimandrite Ephraim, the abbot of Vatopedi Monastery. When he learned that many people had photographed him without his knowledge, Fr. Dionisie lamented and said: âWhat photos? Whatâs there to photograph? A poor old man who can barely walk? They want to make a saint out of me. But Iâm like a dead manâa little while longer and Iâll be gone.â Elder Joseph of Vatopedi Elder Joseph of Vatopedi, a disciple of the great Elder Joseph the Hesychast, saw him as his co-laborer in prayer, and until his last days would visit Elder Dionisie for counsel and Confession, and other Vatopedi fathers would send various pilgrims to him who were looking for spiritual nourishment. Father would humble and reproach himself: âVatopedi keeps sending people to me, telling them Iâm a spiritual man, but itâs not true. I canât even see themâwhat am I supposed to tell them? I donât have the gift of words! What should I, a poor blind man, tell them?â Having attained the measure of perfected wisdom, Father taught his disciples: We know that our way of life tends not to be so monastic anymore, receiving laymen, serving them, and this despite the fact that many come here only to tempt us. And we donât really know their hearts; itâs all just how it seems to us. Let us try to have love, to show them love. Although we know that itâs hard and quite vexing, we have to do it so as not to harm ourselves from this side and thatâbecause Orthodoxy doesnât oblige us to see the mistakes of others, but to see ourselves, humble ourselves, and consider ourselves worse than all. Perhaps the best description of Elder Dionisieâs earthly existence and angelic manner of living was given by the same Fr. Ephraim of Vatopedi: He moved to the Cell of St. George at Colciu Skete in 1937, and until his departure to the Lord, he spent nearly seventy years in a humble room, all of fifty-four square feet, in patience and the thirst for silence. But he came to know Christ there and immutably understood that, as Geronda Joseph the Hesychast said, at the end of patience, when all human consolations are gone, the sweetness of Divine consolation descends into the heart. His entire being breathed humility: his bright face, his warm smile, his meek and edifying word, his modesty, kindness, and simplicity, the way he hid his monastic labor and his deedsâin a word, his spiritual nobility. Rarely have I seen a man so noble as Fr. Dionisie. May his blessing be upon us! submitted by Yurii_S_Kh to SophiaWisdomOfGod [link] [comments] |

Dear Agent,
When Dr. Tommy Storm got out of the Marines, he thought he had laid down his weapons for good. But when the President is rushed to the hospital after a shooting, which turns out to be not an assassination attempt but a kidnapping, Tommy hopes his combat training kicks in quicker than a meth addict with a winning lotto ticket. Gabriel Dupont is the leader of the Carbon Dioxide Coalition, an international terrorist organization whose determination to put an end to human-induced climate change is rivaled only by how godawful the organizationâs name is.
The terrorists commandeer the hospital. Tommy is outnumbered and outgunned. He teams up with Dr. Valentine Andrews, an anesthesiologist in training whose penchant for mischief and sarcasm makes her the perfect teammate for Tommy. Unbeknownst to him, Val is pregnant and understandably reluctant to place herself in harmâs way. Together, she and Tommy must penetrate the terroristsâ defenses and rescue the President. Lacking any real weapons, they arm themselves with a smorgasbord of medications and supplies they scavenge from around the hospital.
Tommy and Val face relentless mortal peril - and not just from the terrorists. Their arguments are so petty, their relationship so contentious, that if the terrorists donât get them first, they just might kill each other. Racing against an ultimatum, the duo must get to the President before the terrorists release a vial of Ebola into the hospitalâs HVAC system. Flying by the seat of their pants, Tommy and Val improvise a commendable though clumsy resistance. No, âclumsyâ is disingenuous. It is an abject clusterfuck. But they persevere, making use of every improvised weapon they can find. When cornered in a patient room, they grab the first object at hand: a defibrillator. They shock one of the terrorists, inducing cardiac arrest. In a rooftop skirmish, Tommy manages to stab his opponent in the neck with a syringe of ketamine, knocking him unconscious. Nothing goes according to plan, but Tommy has an arsenal of questionable ideas up his sleeve. And a man with an arsenal stands a chance.
I am writing to seek representation for my 82,000 word adult thriller, ONE STORMY NIGHT. The manuscript is complete. The story combines the pacing of T.J. Newman's Falling with the sarcasm and humor of Nelson DeMille's John Corey series.

2024.06.01 08:59 Visual_Accident1809 I made it partway through an initiation ritual with a secret hermetic organization, and then I got stabbed to death because my girlfriend is too short.
May 31st, 2024
I have had the most surreal, intense dream I have ever experienced in my entire life. I know that I will never be able to do this dream justice by simply writing words down on paper, but to try and ignore or "forget" something so impactful feels like an incredible disservice to my psyche.
The start of my dream seems to involve a fellow musician I've met. He was a piano player. We were outside at night, in some parking lot. I will continue to refer to the pianist as "Phil".
Phil had introduced me to a congregation of other musicians. I don't remember what any of them played, or how many there were. I was offered an invitation to join them; all I had to do was learn and perform a piece of sheet music they had provided to me by next week.
From there, I had somehow transitioned to riding around at night in some criminal's car. I didn't get the feeling I was kidnapped - rather, I was there by choice (?) I confided in the criminal how much I loathe having to go to work every week; how it must be nice to just steal everything I could ever want or need.
Then, much like Phil, the criminal seemed to offer me an "in" on the criminal lifestyle. I immediately declined, knowing what I would have had to prove.
Up until this point, I would say this dream has been relatively "normal", at least by dream standards. But things are just getting started.
Still at night, I was in a dark building; I thought I was alone. I walked through the door in front of me, leading down a small set of steps into further blackness. It was here that I felt the presence of others with me. I believe these were the same group of musicians that Phil had introduced me to. I felt some of my clothes being stripped from my body. Again, I willingly let this happen. I was placed into a robe and a hat of some kind. I was given a series of cryptic tests and riddles, which I seemed to be able to solve intuitively and almost instantly.
As these tests carried on, they seemed to go faster and faster. At this point, within the dream itself, it's as though my mind's eye was wide open. There were many images and symbols that passed by quickly, yet each one was so dense with meaning and purpose. All the symbols seemed to have a heavy religious and/or hermetic context to them. Various themes and emotions come to my mind when I try to recall these images: -Love -Sacrifice -Deceit -Illusions -Murder -Trust -Devotion -Mysticism/Magicks
I'm sure there are many more ideas I could recall from these images, but I would be here far too long to list them all off.
The biggest crime of this journal entry is that I lack the ability to convey through illustration or descriptive words what exactly I saw (not a single thing!)
At some point within this bizarre and cryptic initiation ritual, there was some sort of statement made regarding how it was "evil", immoral, even, to have a partner that is too physically short. My thoughts immediately went to my girlfriend. I heard someone exclaim: " 4"11' is too short to be loved!"
Now that I am awake (at the time of writing), I remembered my girlfriend is about 5"4'. While still in this bizarre dream, I had no way to quantify or rationalize that at all. My natural response then, was to disagree and fight against that statement, because I was unwilling to give her up for whatever wizard cult B.S. I had gotten myself into.
Perhaps, this was an intentional part of the test. A trap that was set to catch me. While still seeing all of these visions, I could feel my physical body being dragged out of the ceremony room. I could hear Phil in the background, pleading to give me another chance. It would seem that his plea fell upon deaf ears. I felt myself being stabbed. Although the pain was excruciating, I could not tell if it was my physical body being stabbed, or my soul. I was stabbed multiple times, each time seemed to further sever my psychic connection more and more from the ritual.
After that, I found myself banished into some sort of hell or purgatory. It was somewhat gloomy, kind of reminding me of Dark Souls 1. I saw my best friend here, but he did not acknowledge or reply to me.
From this point in the dream, I was BEYOND horrified. Fortunately, it was at this point as well that I was able to "will" my actual eyes open, and finally end the dream.

2024.06.01 08:36 DissociatedAuthor For anyone else with a misordered copy of the special edition comic
Apologies now for the post length. I ordered a copy of the Special Edition a while back and it came highly out of order. While I don't mind and it was still an incredible read, I've compiled a list of the order for anyone else. I based this off the TPV version on WordPress and a couple of item descriptions of the special edition itself that were largely in order with everything else. Figured I'd share the list so anyone else with a misprinted copy can read their's in the correct order without tedious comparison. If I get anything wrong please someone correct me. As an addage, my copy was so badly out of order I had to make a set of paper markers to have it be ordered correctly. If it is the same for you you best bet is to go on wordpress and do the same. Enough rambling.

2024.06.01 08:30 RickNBacker4003 Here's two pebbles. How are they different?
A short essay explaining the distinction between conventional and existential and how it is often life changing.
== == == == == == == == == == ==
Here's two pebbles. How are they different?
== == == == == == == == == == ==
PERSON1: Would you like to have a conversation about the two fundamental contexts one can use to describe anything? ... Doesn't matter if it's a thing or an idea.
PERSON2 (in parenthesees): (Why not. What am I gonna say, no?)
PERSON1: Cool. Suppose you have two pebbles. In what ways are they different?
PERSON2: (Well one is rounder, or heavier, or darker... etc.)
(P1) Yep. Agree. Now tell me which one is 'pebblier'.
(P2) (What?)
Which one is better? Which is a better example of a pebble?
(?âŚWell they're both pebbles. Either can't be any more or less of a pebble than the other!)
I agree! So ... in some ways they're different â rounder, or heavier â and in another way theyâre equal â theyâre both 100% pebbles.
Theyâre not the same in some ways and they're equally the same as just being pebbles. Theyâre not forks, or pencils. They can't be anything other than pebbles.
(Yep. Ok. So what.)
Iâd like to reintroduce a word you already know ... âconventionâ. A convention is quality we can measure ... weight, color, smoothness, temperature, hardness, whatever you like. Every conventional measurement is relative to something else ... heavier, greener, hotter, whatever.
(Yep. Ok. So what.)
But each pebble, itself, not compared to anything else, is just a pebble.(And?)
In other words, we can actually choose to perceive, see or understand the pebble ONLY as a pebble... because we know it's not a fork or a pencil. We know what it "is".
(And?)
Another word for "is" (a pebble) is "exist".
The pebble is a pebble.
The pebble exists as a pebble.
Those two statements mean the same thing.
(So what!... get to it...please!)
When we measure something compared to something else it's a âconventionalâ measure.
To say a pebble is round means comparing it to something else similarly round.
But whatever it is, in this case a pebble, it "is" before we start describing it with conventional terms like heavy and smooth. The pebble "is" before it "is heavy and smooth".The something has to exist before it can be compared to something else.
(hmm... ok... and?)The existence of that something, by itself, before being compared to something else, is that something's âexistentialâ existence.
When we refer to something 'existentially' ... note the 'exist' in there ⌠we're talking about the thing itself ... *without* comparing it to something else, which again is a conventional description.
(So?!?!)
So existentially ⌠everything is exactly what itâs supposed to be.
A pebble is exactly a pebble.
That also means the pebble is existentially, 'perfectâ ... it's exactly what it is ... it's inherently perfect because it's not supposed to be anything else.
If something is exactly what it is supposed to be then thereâs no reason to compare it to anything else. That thing has no conventional flaws. We have to conclude that thing is existentially perfect.
(Thatâs nuts. Wouldnât you rather have a diamond than a pebble?)
YEP! Iâd rather have a diamond than a pebble! The diamond is worth *conventionally* more.
But the pebble is, existentially, as perfect as the diamond.
The pebble is a perfect pebble ... 100%.
The diamond is a perfect diamond... 100%.
(Well I just want the diamond. I'd never existentially want the pebble.)
Ok, then here's a different question. Is Magic Johnson better than you?
(What do you mean better?)
That's the point. In some ways Magic Johnson is better than you and I.He's better at business. He's better at basketball. He doesn't pay at Starbucks as he owns one.But regardless do you and I deserve the same respect and basic rights that Magic deserves?Existentially, you, I, Magic and everyone else, have equal value.
Conventionally, Magic Johnson, in some ways, is better than you or I.
(I get it but so what can do with it?)
Well there's both personal and social ramifications to deciding whether to existentially or conventionally judge the value of something.
For example, judging ourselves.Everyone has doubts about themselves, about situations, whatever. Thatâs normal, people want to be better at making money, having relationships, whatever.
But! ⌠they also want to feel accepted just because they are who they are. That's existential.
Existentially ⌠they want to have the same respect and fair treatment they feel everyone deserves.
And when they feel the world doesn't respect them they suffer.People regularly think "I am not good enough because the world doesn't treat me a particular way."
The big point here is that *human suffering comes from conventional measures*.
When a person thinks some version of "I'm not good enough (compared to other humans)." it's a conventional measure.
But one can choose, to train themselves, to not think conventionally and instead think "I am ok just because I am. Iâm not supposed to be anyone else. I understand I may have to take conventional actions to get what I need, but me, to me, only about me, is existentially perfect and need not suffer.â

2024.06.01 08:11 Bingbong5869 Finally got hired, but am feeling iffy about the team I'II be with daily...
Not sure if this is the right spot to post this, but I wanted to share my experience with my most recent job interview experience / getting hired for them.
So this role is very aligned with what I went to college for and what I currently do as a side hustle to make money, so in that regard this is a good role.
However my in person interview with said company, I've felt weird about and like my red flags were going off.
- They wanted someone who spoke their language (which I had heard through word of mouth) they prefer that, but nowhere in the job description did it entail they wanted/preferred someone who spoke the language. Luckily I do but I could just tell if I didn't it would definitely hinder my chances with getting this role even though the job has nothing to do with that.
- The interviewers kept speaking in said language for about 80% of the interview right from the start while I answered my questions in English. It was a bizarre experience because I wasn't expecting that at all. Then I got a condescending tone given to me when I gave my salary estimate.
- Another interviewer asked to "test" me and told me to speak only in said language completely to the question being asked. Mind you the quest has absolutely nothing to do with the job, an super personal and kind of uncomfortable.
This company definitely favors certain people and luckily I was part of that but it doesn't sit well with me how this went, not to mention I'm not 100% fluent in said language yet they keep speaking to me in the language.
l've been job searching for 2 years out of college and this job is full time. I feel it's best for me to take it but I do feel worry that l'Il get stuck at this job with this team that makes me uncomfortable. Also when they asked me what my salary expectation was I said 60k and the main person interviewing me said in a condescending tone asking why would I ask for that much, which I thought was inappropriate to say. I said Iâm flexible and can go down but they really are low balling me with the pay they settled with, so I asked for a higher rate in which they said theyâd let me know next week.
Can I get peoples thoughts on this or any feedback / advice? This would be my first real full time role out of college and Iâm glad it aligns with what I graduated with too

2024.06.01 08:00 Momo5768 HELP ME FIGURE OUT MY MBTI
Ok so first off I gotta say that I found these questions from another post and I'm just gonna use this as a template to write my own answers.
Sorry for the bad grammar.
I've been questioning what my mbti is for sometime and It's really bugging me that I can't get a clear answer.I always thought I'm an INTJ but idk(sometimes I get INTP, INFJ or ISFP on personality tests) so yeah it's pretty much a messđI thought I knew myself better than this Let's get started!
⢠How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.
-16 yo girl
⢠Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?
-nope (I do have social anxiety tho.Im still working on it)
⢠Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
-No one in my familly is actually religious.Only my grandma and It's pretty moderate. When I was little she would take me to church a lot and I actually enjoyed following the traditions. As I got a bit older I started to question If God was actually real or not and came to the conclusion that this whole religion thing sounds pretty stupid. In the present day, although I don't belive in God,I still respect religion and find it quite beautiful to follow.I especially admire the dedication and self control one must have in order to be called a true beliver.Something that I hate tho is those people who use their religion to bring down others and their different perspectives on life.
⢠What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
-I'm in highschool and I guess It's alright -As a career I want to go to law school and become a prosecutor because I'm intrested in the justice system (it's corrupt af) and criminology ⢠If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
-a weekend spent alone and organised with a routine so that I can focus on my hobbies and the stuff that I need to get done is a perfect weekend in my opinion! But Let's be honest,a productive weekend rarely happends for me..!
⢠What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?
Mostly indoor activities like drawing, listening to music, painting, writing when it comes to outdoor activities.. Walking alone through the forest or going to the cinema/restaurant with my friends/family and sometimes even weight lifting at the gym!
⢠How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
I'm a pretty curious person and want to take in as much info as possible but only in subjects that peak my intrest like anatomy, history, philosophy, psychology. When it comes to stuff like math, chemestry, even if I want to learn more, it's like I have a mental block that prevents me from remembering info about them (I still do good academically in those subjects.I force myself cuz I want good grades)
⢠Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
-I really like being the one in control but only when it comes to smaller projects or stuff that I'm familiar with and not too anxious about.Around my friends I make a pretty good leader because I am not afriad to be assertive with them(sometimes I am too mean)but around people that I don't know very well it's like I have no backbone. So I find it hard to be direct with them and instead would do it in subtle ways. One thing that I'm good at(when it comes to school presentations)is organising the project and being the first one to step up and get the work done(alone if I have to)I like doing the design, breaking down and synthetizing the info and being the one who does most of the talking in front of the class because I always make sure to prepare my speach and look as confident as I can.
⢠Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?
-I guess??? I'm not really sure about this oneđĽ˛but yeah I enjoy stuff like pottery, painting, drawing, writing.I'm pretty messy when I work on my paintings and often get frustrated when it doesn't come out right so I just start scribbling on them and then abandon the project đ
⢠Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
-I am really artistic and creative! Art was my hyperfocus when I was little and I would get praised for it a lot.My art always had this clean finished look. Now that I'm a little older,I have other intrests than art and studying and I have become a bit more disorganised and lazy(teenage years are hardđŞđ) this has reflected in my art which now doesn't have a consistent artstyle and is a lot more messy.
⢠What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
-Past:I am not extremly focused on the distant past but I do sometimes reevaluate cringe memories and past conversations.I always try to put on in public this facade that I am a confident person(when I was little I was extremly anxious) and try to think beforehand of how to act when talking with other people. These efforts are cut short tho because of how socially oblivious I seem to be and how hard I understand people's reactions and emotions.I am also really paranoid that I did something wrong or that the person I was talking to was trying to sabotage me in some way. This makes me always think about past conversations and try to remember their words and body language to realise what it all meant.
-Present:I am not really intrested in the present moment as I do have my head in the clouds most of the time.I also do not really enjoy my moments spent with other people because I think they are pretty meaningless. My incapability to like this stuff and be more geniune like the others really infuriates me and makes me try to sometimes copy their behaviors.Either way, don't take it as me not apreciating the moments spent with my loved ones.I really do and it makes me be happy but It's not Something that will actually stick with me as I grow older. The moments that I really like are those when I am left alone. For example,my newest pleasent memory is one where I was sitting on the school bus, staring out the window and watching the heavy rain as I listened to a video essay with my headphones on.That moment touched my heart deeply somehow. (And I just realised I started talking about the past again hehe)
-Future:The future is my main concern.I really want to make the most of this life.I want to become somone great.I really wish to give it my all to my future job,to write books that could inspire other people and to stand up for causes I belive in. Either way,the problem is that, although not unachivable, these are really just goals that I yet haven't started working on.They seem to be just a little kids dream that is not backed up by me putting in actual work.Other than me working hard for high grades,it seems like I have no actual concrete plan for the future, just the aspirations. My lack of determination to completly dedicate myself from now infuriates me.Still I guess I have a more well put toghether life than others..Idk I just have really high standards for myself and get upset whenever I let myself get distracted by usslless stuff when I could be doing something better.
⢠How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
-I would help them because I see no reason not to.Only if it's something that doesn't take much effort tho. Also,it would be good because that person might help you in the future if you help them now.If they ask for my help often and they don't help me back I would kinda just start making half assed excuses with a judgemental expression on my face ,clear enough to make them realise the fact that I no longer care.
⢠Do you need logical consistency in your life?
-If I understand the meaning of this term corectly then yes.I mean, right now I am confused about my personality type and feel like I no longer understand myself so my brain has been pretty foggy lately.
⢠How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
-I think I already explained it earlier đ
⢠Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
-I don't think of myself as controling.Maybe sometimes around a select group of people???Like my friends/familly...I can be really layed back but I become really demanding and agressive with them when I'm under stress
⢠What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
-I learn by robotically reapeating the info until I memorize it.If it's a subject that I care about,I will try to actually understand the information and dissect it to make it easier to understand.I learn best in an enviroment that is not too overly stimulating.I found that I get really stressed when it comes to having an untidy room and a mind that is overclouded with thought.I prefer classes that require memorization and creativity.I also have a really short attention span and often procrastinate..
⢠How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?
I like preparing in advance but I do have to say that a lot of the time I also kinda wing it
⢠What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?
-i want to become a prosecutor, not necesarilly for the money but for the high status and oportunities this job can give in getting a better understanding of how my country runs -i want to help people by donating to charity and stuff -i want to focus on maintaining a healthy strong body -i want to focus on my art -I want to become a strong woman and prove that I can live a fulfilling life by myself (I don't want to get married or have children and this is something that is often ridiculed by the people around me.Do I care?Nope!)
⢠What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
-I am afraid of faillure and living an unremarkable life. -I hate the fact that, although I try to look composed,I am so sensitive and quick to cry whenever somone insults me (cough coughI'm talking about my amazing father that never hesitates on pinpointing my weakpoints and throwing really personal attacks at me -I also hate the fact that I don't always stand up for myself,or atleast not in a effective way.Whenever my dad insults me,I could respond to him the same way with a comment that would hurt him deeply because, just like he knows me,I also know him and his insecurities really well...but yet I don't..because I am aware of what the consecquences will be,I am aware that this won't make him try to better himself and would just make him become more deffensive..and also I really don't want to lower myself to his level.
⢠What do the "highs" and âlowsâ in your life look like?
-highs: when I am at peace with myself and feel confident,I become a bit more social and I respect the routines I make and I become more open to new experiences
-lows: when I feel like my self asteem gets really bad I do the exact opposite of the things I just stated.
⢠How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
-I am often daydreaming to escape reality but that doesn't mean I'm completly disconected from it.I rely heavily on my hearing to be aware of what's going on. A lot of people like to say that I have my head in the clouds because I am always zoning out but really most of the time I do that to make it look like I'm not paying attention and have an excuse to be left alone.
⢠Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
I would probably talk out loud and go on a rant about how this situation is going to affect my perception of reality.I would also make up scenarios in my mind that I'm in a different place along with my friends or favorite fictional characters. (Why am I in that room tho??? That's concerning...)
⢠How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
-I am not a big fan of making decisions and I would deffinetly not do it spontaneously. (for example,my class and I were going on a trip to another country.Because I currently don't really have any friends(womp womp) to go with,I didn't know if I should go or not.At first I decided that I shouldn't because I knew damn well that I wouldn't manage to fit in and I also knew that it wouldn't be that intresting of a trip that it would be worth spending so much money on.I was also really anxious about the thought that something would go wrong and the bus will crash or that I would forget my ID home etc.On the other hand,I really wanted to try this new experience. So I put the decision off for some time until I finnaly texted the teacher that I wanted to come (spoiler alert:I was right!I didn't enjoy it!heheh)
⢠How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
I care a lot about how I feel about stuff and being in touch with my own feelings. My emotions don't seem very strong on the outside most of the time tho.I rarely express them in front of people who I don't know well and I dislike it when people have these emotional outbursts in public.
⢠Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
-I would agree with them but give subtle hints that I'm lying(like the tone of my voice) If the conversation is about a subject that I'm really passionate about I'm deffending my point of view till the end!
⢠Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?
-I see no point in breaking the rules as I belive they exist for a reason and that they keep a certain social order.I am very critical of those who break the rules just because but I deeply admire the people who question authority and demand change for the better.
This is my first Reddit post by the way Thank you for sticking till the end and please leave your thoughts about what my mbti/cognitive functions could be!

2024.06.01 07:10 yxkuo Hacks S3E9 Recap and Thoughts (Long Read)
Apologies for the absolutely insane number of words, got carried away trying to compensate for being slower than usual with my recap. The cold open for the finale has a nice little parallel to the cold open in S1E2, which similarly has Deborah walk in to Marty whoâs in a somewhat compromising position with his trainer to deliver good news, although in this case her news is something they both celebrate, rather than a win she uses to gloat over Marty
Even though sheâs in a much less combative place with Marty, Deborah still isnât willing to admit that she came over to tell him the news in person and insists that sheâs only there to return the key, showing the limited extent to which she is willing to open up even to people sheâs known for a long time.
Deborah and Marty doing the tango together to basically celebrate the news is quite cute and a fun way to kick off the episode
I do think itâs kind of sweet that Kathy is quite looking forward to Deborahâs visit, and J Smith Cameron plays up Kathyâs somewhat childlike excitement at this during the opening of the phone call
Nice to see Deborah making an effort to follow up after inviting Kathy for Christmas, committing to a sisterâs weekend is a not insignificant step although it also becomes clear that sheâs not 100% committed to it. Waiting for Kathy to call and then tell her thereâs a change in plans instead of just straight up telling her isnât a particularly nice thing to do
Deborah has a weird look on her face when Kathy brings up her parents at the mausoleum, which I initially thought was because she didnât really like to reflect on the past, although on a rewatch it becomes clear itâs because she knows the truth about the mausoleum.
âSheâs pivoting into being an adultâ Found the way Kayla phrased this part of the child star to adult actor experience to be very funny. I guess the Bella Donaldson character is supposed to be a reference to people like Zendaya, Zac Efron and Selena Gomez (Cannes Best Actress winner!!???), Disney child stars who are trying to shed their past image and be taken as serious adult actors to varying degrees of success. Also the bit about getting awards buzz for an Aronofsky movie feels a bit like what happened/ was projected to happen with Sadie Sink and The Whale
Deborah watching her old Late Night tape and Ava seeing her do that is a nice callback to and reversal of S1E3, where it was Ava watching Deborahâs tape and discovering more about her past
I love Hannah Einbinderâs simple but sincere delivery of âI knew you wouldâ as Ava, and the way Jean Smart lets just the tiniest smile play across Deborahâs lips in response to Avaâs belief in her
Ava being able to only write stuff for Deborahâs Late Night show and not any actual material of her own shows that even though itâs been a year plus since the S2 Finale she still has the same issue of Deborah being âthe one with all the stories. What do I even have to say?â
Avaâs voice going up endearingly high when she says âThis is gonna be amazingâ is very cute, what a touching and lovely scene between Deborah and Ava showing the respect and admiration they have for each other. Iâm sure that will continue for the rest of the finale!
How does a safe in the floor of the pool even work lol
Very fun comedy freaking out by Mark Indelicato as Damien, him becoming hysterical at the thought of becoming the new Marcus is hugely entertaining.
According to Hannah Einbinder and Jean Smart on
Varietyâs Award Circuit podcast, thy did shoot a scene for this episode where Marcus does tell Deborah that heâs leaving but it was cut from the episode. Honestly not sure what role Marcus will play next season and curious to see what the writers will do since it seems heâs going on a very different plotline than the rest of the show. If this was another show Iâd say heâs being written out but from interviews and other behind the scenes material the cast and showrunners are fairly tight knit, so Iâd imagine theyâll find a way which makes sense for Marcus to continue being around
Between this guest appearance as Bella Donaldson and the release of Lisa Frankenstein and Abigail, Kathryn Newton is quietly having a pretty cool 2024. She absolutely nails the passive-aggressive âniceâ girl type that sheâs asked to play here. Also the Zack and Cody mention is kind of neat since Newton starred along with Cole Sprouse in Lisa Frankenstein earlier this year, while the goat demon movie mentioned might possibly be a nod to Newtonâs affinity for the horro horror adjacent genre?
Quite like this Jimmy/Kayla B plot, allows Meg Stalter to show a different/more emotional side to Kayla whoâs usually just the very fun comedic relief. Her smiling nicely and trying to politely ward off Bellaâs passive-aggressive ânicenessâ is such a deeply human character beat.
Deborah Margesson doesnât quite have the same ring to it as Deborah Vance, so I guess thatâs why she didnât go back to her maiden name after the divorce.
Deborah moving her parentâs remains to Vegas and not telling Kathy for twenty plus years is absolutely deranged behaviour. âIt was a corner plotâ and âI used my art shipper!â are ridiculously bad responses to the situation, this being the last straw for Kathy is very understandable. Although in Deborahâs defence I guess the fact that she was willing to accompany Kathy to the mausoleum for what she knows to be a completely empty gesture is her deranged way of showing care for her sister and not wanting to hurt her feelings.
Also in hindsight Deborah lying to/not telling Kathy about their parents to avoid hurting her feelings and any conflict is good foreshadowing since that pretty much turns out to be what she does regarding Ava and the head writer job
Deborahâs look of absolute disdain/confusion after hearing the âgoing to the hardware store for milkâ line is gold from Jean Smart
I think Kathyâs reaction to Deborah here and deciding that sheâs had enough of her BS and not wanting to put herself through even more hurt in attempting to maintain a relationship is completely reasonable, really liked J Smith Cameronâs work here, as well as Jean Smart playing Deborahâs silent acceptance of this relationship blowing up yet again
Deborah standing alone in the mausoleum is a great shot
Kathyâs reaction to Deborahâs BS here serves as a great contrast to how Ava deals with Deborahâs BS later on in the episode, it truly takes someone special/equally deranged to want to continue being with Deborah despite all her flaws and the hurt she causes to those around her. To use some internet parlance, Kathy is unwilling to put up with Deborahâs freak, while Ava ends up being more than willing to match Deborahâs
Lewis Benton/ fake John Oliverâs line to Ava about her being the hardest-working person in the office is a nice reminder of how working with Deborah has changed Ava for the better in some ways by giving her a stronger work ethic
âMaybe our paths will cross againâ Just speculating here, and maybe this would be too inside baseball of a storyline for a show that initially at least was about two people on the âoutsideâ of the entertainment industry, but might there be a future storyline of Deborah competing against fake John Oliver for an Emmy? A recent Emmy rule change starting from the Emmys earlier this year means that Oliver no longer competes with the more traditional Late Night shows like Colbert, Kimmel, Meyers, The Daily Show etc prior to that this had been the case for the past ten or so years
Kayla being the funny one growing up as a defense mechanism against bullies like Bella is such a great character detail on the part of the writers, makes so much sense and explains so much about Kaylaâs outlook and attitude
This conflict is so great because both Jimmy and Kayla do have a point. Obviously Jimmy standing up for Kayla whoâs being bullied is a good thing for him to do as a friend, but Kaylaâs also not wrong in feeling that Jimmy is kind of ignoring her work and being a bit patronising. Really liked how Meg Stalter plays Kaylaâs hurt feelings in this scene, itâs a well-executed emotional beat for a generally comedic character. And this continues the throughline about whether Jimmy has what it takes/enough stones and guts to be in the business which was also seen in the back part of S2
Quite liked the scene between Deborah and Biff Cliff (what a name!), a pretty sobering reminder of the obstacles faced by women in entertainment and just how precarious making it in the business actually is, makes complete sense that it would spook Deborah to do what she does later on
I thought the Jimmy Page dating a 14 year old story was meant to be a jab and Jerry Seinfeld and his 17 year old girlfriend, but googled and found out that that
was a true story too I feel like the bit Ava has as a writer taking new headshots and the different treatment they receive compared to actors must be drawn from the real-life experiences of the writers/showrunners, itâs such a specific joke. That said I think if you asked a layperson to tell whoâs a writer and whoâs an actor from
this Deadline photoshoot I think theyâd be hard pressed to tell the difference (very complimentary).
Ava sharing her excitement over her âdream jobâ as head writer for Deborah with a random make-up artist is very endearing, and just makes what happens later on even more crushing
Deborah going to the exec meeting and slowly realising just how much is being invested in her is a great bit of reaction acting from Jean Smart, and further helps reinforce the pressure sheâs under and explains her choices
Quite liked the scene of Deborah telling Ava that the network doesnât want her as head writer, on first watch it seems like Deborah is just worried about how to break the bad news to Ava and let her down easy, but on rewatch it feels so obvious that Deborah is just lying through her teeth to Ava and struggling with it big time.
Jimmyâs âproposalâ to Kayla on the plane is such a great comedic setpiece/skewing of the rom-con trope, everything from the overly-excited passenger who completely misreads the situation to Jimmy kneeling because the flight attendant says thereâs no standing in the aisle is just perfect.
Itâs also just a really good way to cap off the season long plot involving Jimmy and Kayla, weâve seen throughout the season that they make a very good thing and that Kaylaâs kind of a genius at this in her own unique way, very satisfying to see Jimmy finally recognise this and promote her. Jimmy and Kaylaâs mentomentee relationship serves as a healthy contrast to Deborah and Ava,with Jimmy as a mentor who recognises the menteeâs contributions and is willing to make compromises (see his acceptance of Kaylaâs three funny videos a day)
Jimmyâs voice going up absurdly high when he says âLeave us alone!!!â and âWhat is your dealâ is fantastic comedic work from co-showrunner Paul W Downs, heâll get Writing and Series Emmy nominations this year, but he should really be getting one for Supporting Actor too.
I guess if you want to nitpick you could say Ava running into Winnie is a very convenient thing to move the plot along, but I choose to look at is as a reminder that Ava has moved on up in the world since the end of S2 and is now at a place where she can get takeout from fancy places where a high-level network head might also dine
Avaâs look of betrayal and anger after realising that Deborah lied to her is great work from Hannah Einbinder
Deborah is reading a Churchill biography when Ava storms in
My god, Ava confronting Deborah is just a perfect perfect scene, the writing is so sharp and Jean Smart is fantastic at playing Deborah going into ice/hardened mode when being confronted, but what a tremendous performance by Hannah Einbinder. She just captures the mixture of betrayal, hurt and anger that Ava feels so naturally and powerfully
Thereâs so many callbacks and references to previous Deborah/Ava confrontations and scenes from across the show. Ava accusing Deborah of just doing the same thing is from their very first meeting S1E1 where she calls her a hack as well as from their argument in S1E10 when she calls her the same thing. The line about being âa shark or whateverâ comes from S2E5 which is what Deborahâs retired comedian friend Susan describes her as, with Deborah later then telling Ava that âYouâve got to be a sharkâ at the end of S2E8. And Deborahâs advice to Ava to be ambitious and saying that she feels lonely when opening a champagne bottle comes from S3E5 (take that people who said the woods episode was pointless filler).
âYou can be the woman behind the man behind the womanâ What an unappealing job description, and also a sign of how far Ava has comes since the S2 finale when she was unwilling to take the credit for writing Deborahâs special. Now her time away from Deborah has allowed Ava the space to truly value herself, her achievements and be justifiably proud of them (she stresses her job at On The Contrary to Deborah back in S3E1 and stresses her co-producer role when in bed with Christina Hendricks in S3E6), and sheâs no longer willing to accept this demotion and wants credit for her work.
âYouâre already making decisions out of fear and youâll keep doing itâ A really cutting observation from Ava which completely nails what Deborah is doing, much like how she immediately clocks in S2E8 that Deborah is pushing her away because sheâs afraid.
âIt has to work. Iâve lost way too much for it not tooâ Deborahâs sentiment applies equally to Ava as it does to herself, and helps explain just why Ava would go to the the extremes she does later on
As much as the dialogue in the scene is great, this Deborah and Ava argument also hits hard because of the silent moments in between. The wordless ten seconds or so which rests entirely on Ava after Deborah says that sheâs willing to lose her is just tremendous stuff from Hannah Einbinder, all the hurt plays across her face and Einbinder is simply terrific in making the audience feel the deep hurt and sense of betrayal of that moment
Ava saying that Deborah will die alone is something that Deborah has thought about before, saying back in S1E9 in her interview with a journalist that she accepts the truth that people leave the world completely alone and refuses to pretend otherwise
One Last Time - Debâs Final Stand Up is the track which plays as the big Deborah/Ava argument scene closes out according to Shazam, with the track (that played in the S1 Finale) taking on a whole new meaning in this context. The soundtrack isnât a big selling point of the show unlike something like say Succession, but the themes by Carlos Rafael Rivera are simple but always effective
Jimmy taking a selfie in his new office is quite cute, and him saying that he didnât do it alone and comforting Ava at the end of this scene is a much needed nice beat after the intensity of the previous scene
âshows that already exist with one tiny tweak, or huge global hitsâ Honestly a pretty depressing but frankly accurate read of the current media/television landscape
Jimmy saying that he knows Ava will do the right thing brings to mind these Deborah lines to Ava from the previous episode âItâs so easy for you to say whatâs right or wrong. Itâs never that simple. One day youâll understand thatâ Avaâs move of blackmailing to get Deborah to do right by her certainly falls into the ânever that simpleâ category
Curious about the politics/legal behind the scenes stuff that needed to be cleared to have Deborah be the host of a CBS late night show in the world of Hacks, while Hacks the actual show is under Warner Bros. Discovery which does not own hacks. I guess in this universe Deborah gets the Late Late Show timeslot instead of Taylor Tomlinson with After Midnight
Deborahâs left Vegas but the vanity plate for her car will continue to follow her and be updated
Deborah excitedly taking a photo of her Host parking spot is very cute, but the beat immediately after when we see a hint of her being sad and uneasy/regretful is also great, sheâs achieved her dream but at great personal cost, and has no one to share the photo and moment with
Itâs been a central thesis of the show that Deborah and Ava are ultimately more alike than different despite their different ages, backgrounds etc. Even in S1E2 the antiques dealer says that Deborah and Ava are âthe sameâ and are âboth psychotic b*tchesâ, and in episode after episode we see just how alike they are. For example in S2E2 after Deborah finds out about the email she says that Ava is just like her, being equally cruel and selfish. Ava blackmailing her abusive boss so that she can continue to work with her is just a completely insane thing to do, and also very much something Deborah would do herself to help her career, as we saw back in S1E5 when Deborah blackmailed Marty to secure her dates at the Palmetto
This move also shows just how much Ava has learnt from Deborah and how much the student has learnt from the master. Ava takes Deborahâs advice from S2E8 to be a shark, and her advice from S3E5 to âconcentrate on whatâs best for youâ. Itâs also ends up becoming a twisted version of Ava saying that she wonât leave Deborah in that same episode too, with Ava resorting to blackmail to stay with Deborah. And Ava finally does what she said back in S2E8, which is that âI get to decide whatâs best for meâ. I love love love the layers to this show!
I love love love the cocky and slightly confident/smirking Ava that we get a brief glimpse of from this scene, coupled with the power suit sheâs rocking it makes for such a satisfying moment as she gets one up over Deborah after being on the back foot previously
Weâve seen a different and more vulnerable side of Deborah this season in S3E5 and S3E7, and seen her be like a fangirl in S3E4, but this scene and her stepping up to Ava and slightly seething as she says âYou wouldnâtâ is a nice reminder that she can be absolutely terrifying when she wants to be
That tiny tiny little gulp that Hannah Einbinder does when/just after Ava says âI wouldâ is so so good, Avaâs standing up to Deborah but Deborah is still one very scary person. Also really love her cocking her head to one side as she says âWouldnât you?â
This has already been pointed out on Twitter, but Deborah and Ava sitting apart in the writerâs room at the end is kind of like the pepper shakers which Deborah rearranged to be apart in S3E1. Also a nice contrast to S3E8 when they were sitting apart as Ava was reporting the journalistâs article to Deborah, even despite them sitting separately they were still very close emotionally, but now the physical distance between them is reflective of the division between them as friends/colleagues
Spoilers for Succession S2E10: This Hacks finale is very reminiscent of the Succession S2 Final This Is Not For Tears. In both episodes the older mentor whoâs been trying to teach their protege/successor to be harder and tougher ends up being too good at their job and get betrayed by their mentee in a stunning rug pull moment, even though for much of the season it seems the mentee is perfectly content working undefor their mentor. Itâs a plot twist thatâs both completely shocking in the moment yet makes so much sense when looking back on the season and the series as a whole. And of course the finale ends on a shot of the older mentor as they take in what their mentee has done, with a mixture of anger but also just the slightest hint of pride and begrudging admiration
This final twist in the finale of Ava blackmailing Deborah is so so good and satisfying, does what great season finales do which is deliver a âtwistâ that feels like a gut punch initially but has actually been building over the season, and sets up a really juicy scenario/ status quo for next season
Ava blackmailing her way to head writer on Deborahâs show is such a juicy scenario to leave things for Season 4, Ava has never had power over Deborah like she does now and Iâm personally very much looking forward to how that changes their dynamic next season
My only concern is that I do hope the Vegas aspect and the characters from that part of the Hacks universe donât get left behind with the focus shifting to running a Late Night show. If there is something to ding this season of the show itâs that thereâs not enough Kiki, Iâm not smart enough to figure out how a Vegas casino dealer will be able to regularly show up in LA but I selfishly want the writers to figure that out because Poppy Liu is just too fun as Kiki to leave out. Also kind of curious as to how theyâll keep Marcus around since heâs now leaving Deborahâs QVC empire.
Overall a really really great season finale and a very strong season as a whole, easily the best Comedy of the year and one of the best shows of the year. Really rooting for the show to win big prizes at the Emmys later this year against the Bear although that will be tough, pulling hard for Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder to win and for the show to at least win Writing if it canât win for Comedy Series. Also would be very happy if Meg Stalter and Paul W Downs got their first-time noms this year, they were both great this season
