Hi there! First post on reddit so please forgive me if i'm not using any fancy text.
I've been DM'ing now on and off for around near 5 years, originally I ran for 2 separate friend groups with Vastly different likes and dislikes. I had to stop one groups campaign due to work schedules and as the such (gotta love adult life ;-;)
So recently my current group consists of close friends so it is quite easy to get things across but it can also be very easy to lose control of the table if we start having jokes and a good laugh.
the above is not the issues I'm having as the DM however the stuff above i'm fine with as long as we are hanging out and having a good time. My issues span from multiple small issues which I will list below Beginning with myself as I know I make plenty of mistakes as I DM but I'm looking for advice to make sure i'm not going crazy and being a C**T with some of my table rules i've implemented
My Issues I need to work on: Note Taking - I lose track of my notes (this has been getting better moved to an app called obsidian which I have stuck with and this seems to be working wonders for me) but still needs work.
World lore - Kinda a addition to the note taking issue I have, I like to chop change some things but I still want it to make canonical sense to the worlds timeline which can be a little messy at times.
Pacing - Oh god I'm awful for pacing sometimes I'm too fast or i'm far too slow my players spend an entire 7 hour session on 1 street corner being my worst example.
Sometimes Retconning Small things - I Don't know if I think its okay to do this, I've only had to do it twice in total I Hate retconning stuff as I feel like if maybe a player that doesn't shine to often finally gets out their shell i'm worried if I retcon something It can really take away from that players motivation.

Now couple of mini Issues I want to get off my chest. So the Number 3 joke died ages ago for me and its just annoying so stopping that would be nice thank you, anyone that says it going forward you'll just take 3 damage. Unfortunately the interrupting and pacing is horrendous I'm gonna do my best to keep my focus on the game and I ask so do you. For the time being kinda a add on to the previous my max player count I can do is 6 no more, "Player Name" please let "His Partner" know I do not mind if she watches but I can't have her play not until I feel like the pacing is better and no ones shouting over each other. The Cards, They are fun but i'm gonna rejig them to be less annoying and alot less OP, (I'm removing that bag of holding card) personal thing - If I ask something to do with in the game could you please just acknowledge you have seen it, cause I've typed in plane text plenty of times before and it just doesn't get listened to it starts with one person then everyone else follows if you get me and it can make some little instructions that make things easier for me alot harder. As the DM I want a bit more control So one of the major ones that I ask is NO ONE calls "Roll a persuasion to persuade me" or anything along that lines, it is unnecessary and tbh I find it a bit rude. NO Rape or Rolling Cock size. (its just weird and its disgusting you'd think of it tbh)
There are a few more other things that personally bother me but those are the main ones, the minor ones just consist of 1. Don't Make up your own lore of my own creation and then treat it as cannon, I didn't ask and I don't care.

- Don't ask for any more custom items, if I give you something be happy and let it be a surprise. 3."did we level up?" i know its a joke but tone it down before it gets worse.
- If you create a backstory please give me the footnotes of the main points that I can work with, don't give me a lore book about how garfunkle the black white man slain a beast. I won't read it. (Edit - I don't mind if they give me a book to read I do like lore I just mean here that I'd prefer notes of the main points in their characters story)
- I would prefer Game things are sent on discord concerning characters thats a personal thing, I created the discord for me to be organised and have it all in one place so if you please could just send me stuff on that even if its a dnd beyond link I would like it all in one place. I get this is gonna be alot to read but I hope I get my point across. I am the dungeon master and I want to create a game for you guys to enjoy but I have neglected my own joy for the game and have been more lazy with it because of this. I have alot of stuff to fix from last session especially and I'm gonna try to be more focused on the game and create a better experience and all I ask is please listen, pay attention and any question on the world so you can clarify things you may ask me, if there is any issues during the session call for a break if its that major so we may discuss at the table and if its a small issue we discuss it after the session. I'd expect the vast majority of the people who oppose what Israel is doing in Palestine are not loudly chanting at protests.Again, you're entirely ignoring the point. If something is chanted by thousands, it's either a common belief, or at least one propagated by the leaders of the movement. Just because it doesn't fit with your perspective doesn't mean you can dismiss it.

They literally did release footage of the strike itself. Footage in which you can see that the aerial map they released is correct, as the buildings surrounding the area in the video are the same as the ones for where they claimed the strike is in the map they released. In the map, btw, you can see that the area of the strike is removed from the tents. All of this is in the articles I linked.

We do know it was one of those small munitions, as I already said. Another thing we simultaneously know is that those small munitions could start a firAnd another thing we know is that the area where the strike occoured is removed from the tents. In fact both claimed locations of the strike are removed from the tents; both the IDF's and even Hamas' claims for where the strike occoured show them over 100 meters from where we know the fire started. Why do you drop that piece of information?
The IDF's claimed location is even entirely removed from the tents by an open area, and Hamas' claim has the entirety of the UN facility between the strike and the tents- a UN facility which didn't catch fire. So unless the fire somehow managed to spread across 100 meters of open field, or go around an entire aid distribution facility without anyone noticing, it's pretty safe to say that the bomb didn't start the fire.
Again, all of this is in the articles I linked. Just because you refuse to do any deliberation of your own doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

No, the Americans do trust Israel to coordinate aid. But that's just that, Israel doesn't deliver the aid, it coordinates it. What does that mean? Israel gathers all the aid donations, loads them unto trucks, and brings those trucks to Kerem Shalom or Erez. From there, the trucks are picked up by the UN and NGOs who then distribute them.
The problem with Gazan aid was distribution, as a lot of aid failed to reach its destination, and Israel refused to get involved in distribution. Israel literally had a backlog of hunderds of trucks which they already vetted, but we're waiting to be picked up by the UN.
The pier was opened because the US believed it would make distribution easier. But what happened after it opened? Did you intentionally leave that piece of information out?

I actually was in the military, so let's set a few things straight. when fighting guerilla warfare, there are no clear military targets. That's literally the definition of urban guerilla warfare. Embedding yourself within the urban environment and within civilians to fight against a stronger enemy. It isn't like there's buildings marked as "HAMAS HEADQUARTERS" that Israel can just attack and leave everyone else alone. Hamas very intentionally and very openly hides themselves within the civilian population and areas, hence why to attack them, you have to remove the civilians from the region via evacuation. That's literally how every urban conflict against a guerilla force in history was done. It was how the US fought against the Taliban in the cities of Afghanistan, it's how Iraqi forces fought against ISIS in Mosul, and its how the coalition fought against ISIS in Raqqa.
In fact, Raqqa and Mosul both saw far more destruction than Gaza did; with Gaza's figures suggesting 70% of the buildings were damaged to some capacity, where in Mosul some estimates go up to 80% or even 90%. When an enemy embeds themselves in a civilian population, there's no easy way of fighting them. Urban guerilla warfare is quite literally the ugliest form of combat.
As you mention the bombs, you seem to be under the impression they are just dropped for funsies. Like, "Oh, I feel like dropping a 2000 lbs bomb today! How about we do that here?"
It shows complete ignorance of military doctoring and combat. 2000 lbs bombs are also known as "bunker busters". Can you guess why? Because their impact is powerful enough to burst through the ground and collapse underground bunkers. Which might be useful when, oh, I don't know, your enemy has 500 Kilometers of tunnels weaving under your feet?
Lastly, you bring up the World Kitchen strike as some sort of Gotcha, but it perfectly encapsulates your cognitive dissonance. You're amplifying one incident over thousands of other successful strikes, and an incident even the head of World Kitchen said was a mistake. A mistake for which two of thw IDF's top generals were fired.
You're not the first person I say this to, and sadly, you won't be the last. But if you have no knowledge of military, don't try to act like you do. It just makes it seem like you're under the dunning Kruger effect.

Long story short and as much as it sucks to say, I haven't really experienced much of anything. I'm going to intentionally beat around the bush as to what category that "experience" falls under but I think most people should be able to figure it out lol. In other words (and if you play games), I'm a complete noob when it comes to all things girls. As for why those things haven't happened and why I want that to change.. There's a few reasons, but the main reason why I'm putting such an emphasis on this is because I'm a huge homebody and I don't go out much at all which makes it difficult to meet people. That's where Reddit comes in! The message I'm essentially trying to send is becoming physically and emotionally close with a girl is what I want the most. I want to experience it all; the laughs, excitement, curiosity, intimacy, hanging out, fun. Blame all the Disney movies I watched as a kid for that lol.
Finding someone would be a dream come true, but I'd love to find friends too if that's all you're looking for! Local or international, just let me know if that's what you want instead :) We could end up being really close friends and you'll introduce me to a friend who I end up being with? That may or may not be the plot from a romcom š¤ So that means I definitely wouldn't be opposed to a relationship! I've obviously never been in one so I'm not exactly sure how to transition to that, haha. I totally wouldn't mind finding out, though :) Also someone to say good morning and night to, too. That would be the best even if it's incredibly cheesy.
Anyway, it could be someone with a lot of experience or someone with no experience like me, or introverted or not introverted, etc. I don't have a preference either way :) But if I were to be reaaally picky: they'd be sweet and down to earth because just cuddling on its own would be all kinds of cool. A bit about me: I'm shy, caring, kind, sweet and am normal in the weight and height categories. I want to say I'm cute in the looks department? š I'll let you decide that though lol. I think it's super fun learning about people through conversation so I'll leave the following hobbies section blank. Then again, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give a small hint to something I love.. So there's a good chance I'll like whatever you like when it comes to hobbies and interests and that means connecting with each other should be relatively natural/seamless. Or maybe that's wishful thinking on my part, haha.
I'm not the best with openers and if you're also in the same boat, then how about this: If you could have any superpower what would it be and how would you use it? Being out of this world smart like Tony Stark is an acceptable super poweanswer, by the way.

I know there are threads on this already, but I wanted to post with my specific experience.
So I have come to the realization that there is a possibility I am a 2 and not a 9w8 like I thought. I don't know myself very well at all, it seems, as I thought I was a 5w4 even before thinking I was a 9. I read the description of a sp9 and it fits me to a T. It lines up with how I have behaved for most of my life.
There was a time in my life in which I would have definitely seen myself as a 2, if not a very unstable 4. It was a period of a few years after my mother passed. I suddenly became very focused on finding a relationship. I was obsessed with being perfect for people and finding someone who could give me unconditional love. I was uncharacteristically extroverted and social. I was willing to be absolutely anything for whoever my "person" at the time was. I wouldn't say no to almost anything if it meant that my "person" was happy and loved me. I had extreme rage and behaved impulsively in my friendships/relationships. This rage would often be very suppressed and bottled up if it was related to an interpersonal issue. I couldn't tell anyone what was wrong when I was upset and would end up just disappearing from their lives entirely or being very passive aggressive. The only time I was ever up front was when I was paranoid. My rage towards other things was very explosive, however, especially my own inadequacies. I was also very manipulative. People leaving me made me feel like I was dying. It was to the point that my therapist at the time diagnosed me with Borderline Personality Disorder. (I am not implying all borderlines are like this! I don't even have it like I thought and this is merely my experience). One 2 thing I didn't really relate to was helping others with the expectation that they would do the same for me. Honestly, pleasing people just felt like survival.
I seem to have snapped out of that haze, after seeing a new therapist and being medicated with mood stabilizers. I feel like my old self again. I am much more comfortable being alone now and actually prefer it. I have no desire to pursue romantic relationships or otherwise intense connections. Hell, I didn't even want a romantic relationship until after my mom passed, and it usually just ended in me realizing that I was looking for a replacement for a parent. My mother and I were very toxic and enmeshed, but that's a story for another day. I am happy as long as things are relaxed. I opt to not participate in arguments or fights and am able to calm down much more easily and step away when upset. I can still be confrontational if needed, as I prefer being direct (where I believe my 8 wing comes in). I prefer this directness as it saves me from lying or bottling things up to the other person's detriment. I still can't be extremely blunt though.
My main desire back then was unconditional love, and I feared being hated. I felt I lost the opportunity to receive that love since my mom died. My current desire is to just live as well as I can and be happy as I can. I don't really want anything intense or permanent. I just want things to come and go as they must. I'm not sure what I'm afraid of exactly. While medicated, I am still very passive about my own health and life so I don't fear a whole lot, at least not consciously. If I had to say, I fear becoming what I was back then. I don't recognize that person.
Human minds are complex for sure. Usually my reaction to trauma is to heavily dissociate (I can't remember massive chunks of my life) and cope with food, alcohol, any sort of physical experience I can get my hands on to distract from mental pain. This is why I'm so confused regarding my reaction to my mother's death. Some of it I can't help but wonder if I only became that way because so many people told me I had a personality disorder.
Oh, I am also confused about this: If I acted like a 2 while unhealthy, that would mean that my type is 4. However, I don't quite relate to any 4 descriptions as much as I relate to sp9 (4 is in my tritype, however). Plus, if I were truly a 2, I would be like an 8 when stressed, right? I do want to put others first and be useful but just because things go so much smoother if you don't try to be contrarian or cause problems.
As far as stress is concerned, I feel like I disintegrate to 6 more now. The only remaining traits from that time are that I still have the tendency to dip without saying anything when feeling stressed or ashamed, though this is something I have always done. I tend to have one foot out the door as I don't expect people to be around for long.
I'm rather lost on this so if anyone could provide some insight I would greatly appreciate it!

I'm a student who's planning to study in Germany. I took my Goethe B1 Exam last week and hoping that I'll pass and continue working on my language. Applying to universities all around Germany as well. But this post isn't the one to enquire but more of just to catch a feeling about y'all. Social media is toxic and we all know that, IG has been pushing a lot of German Political Content to my feed from both sides the AFD which to my understanding doesn't like international student (Especially ones from the middle east like myself) and the other sides which promotes that Germany and the German people welcome anyone who's willing to come to their land and work and create a family and a life there (AKA be a normal productive member in society). I also have an American friend (F34) who told me that the later way of thinking is more common. But I didn't actually take her words to the heart as things maybe different based on place of origin and where you're planning to live in Germany. So I thought that I'd take it to reddit and ask the people directly. How do you feel about international students in general? and according to my experience online I'll answer a question in advance: If I hopefully had the opportunity to move to Germany (Visa & Admission Letter and the rest...) then I'm not planning to just benefit from the tuition free education and leave Germany for a better place, I actually want to create a stable life if I had the chance and even work on achieving my dreams inside of Germany because my field - as I heard - is still growing and has tons of potential for development in Germany and because (this one is a personal reason) I like way y'all are specifically the dry sense of humor and Ruhezeit makes Germany attractive to me as a place. Now I normally donāt get affected toooo badly by triggering TikTokās because Iām usually good at putting things in perspective but this GAGGED me so hard. Warning for those easily affected by these things, this kind of sent me spiralling but after chatting to my friends about it I feel so much better.
So thereās this Irish TikToker who recently made a story time series about her ex who cheated on her a few years ago thatās after going really viral in Ireland. I watched it, it was juicy and entertaining and it didnāt make me worry about my own relationship or anything like that. After she finished the story time videos she made a follow up that was like āred flags from during the relationshipā and this is where things got stressful.
She started describing how towards the end of lockdown/ during covid times she all of a sudden started getting this dreadful feeling that she had to break up with her boyfriend and that she didnāt love him any more even though she knew that wasnāt true. She said these thoughts stressed her out to the point where she was having breakdowns crying every day and this went on for weeks and weeks. She was so anxious she couldnāt eat and was losing weight and couldnāt function in her life because of these thoughts. Then, she went to the doctor and a therapist and was prescribed anti anxiety medication and the therapist told her it sounded like she was experiencing ocd.
But in the next breath this girl literally goes (im paraphrasing) ānow that things have ended with my ex cheating on me I know that these feelings were 100% valid and that my gut was right telling me something was wrong the whole time.ā

I nearly couldnāt breathe, like what the fuck?? This girl was describing my EXACT experience with ocd down to the timing of when it all started happening, it was literally like hearing someone describe thoughts from my own brain, and then telling me that all of it was real and you have to listen to your gut?????? Hell nah!
And the COMMENTS were even worse, āwhen you know you knowā āwomanās intuitionā etc etc not a single person referencing the fact that this girl had been told by a therapist that this was ocd related.
Iām feeling better now because I know, practically, so many relationships end for various reasons- in fact, more relationships end than are successful. So having ROCD and the relationship ending arenāt necessarily correlated. Even in the case of this girl, she stressed the fact that the relationship was so āperfectā and enjoyable literally up until he cheated, I think a year after this anxiety started.
But yeah that was kind of a kick to the stomach yesterday lol. It was literally the absolute worst TikTok I couldāve seen while being tired and hungry after spending all day travelling. But regardless I donāt need to worry, just because one girl had ROCD and got cheated on a year later doesnāt mean the same thing will happen to me etc etc.

Preface: In my day to day work I am Java Dev using hibernate. I resented it at first (too much magic), but it kind of grew on me and I recently started to really appreciate it mainly in the following sense: When modeling my domain I can go full java-first, completely ignoring that my model is backed by a RDBMS, that is - code my model as if there were no DB, slap the right annotations on it, (make a few compromises here and there) and get going. It even forward engineers the ddl for me.
So in scala world it seems to me that the accepted approach is to separate the model from the persistent model?
Here is why I think that: - the libraries I found map rows to case classes, but usually no built in support for inheritance, sealed trait hierachies, ... - no support for one to many aggregation - bad support for nested case class, especially if they occur multiple times
Here is a sample of how I would model an invoice if there were no database
scala case class Invoice( ... senderName: String, senderAddress: Address, // general purpose case class to not repeat myself recipientName: String, recipientAddress: Address, status: Status, // some sealed trait with cases like e.g. case Sent(when: LocalDate) positions: List[InvoicePosition] ... )

I only wrote this for 1% of you. For the rest, please disregard it.
A Different Game:
I'm not sure if I can explain this. I don't think that I totally understand it myself, but that's ok.
Long term fasting isn't about food, but you already knew that or you wouldn't be attempting a long fast.
This may not pertain to everyone that does a long fast. Maybe it won't pertain to any of them.
You may not know who I am, or of my situation. That's ok. I'm just some guy in a sub-reddit.
For me the battle is more important than the weightloss. Fasting can tear you down right to the core. It can lay you open and expose vulnerabilities that you didn't know you had.
That can be a good thing if you are ready for it. When you've faced something that stripes you down, you only have two ways to go. You either stay broken or you rebuild a new you.
Fasting isn't a team sport. The rebuilding process is a solo journey. You will face family and friends that mean well. You will face people on reddit that have watched a few videos of someone that thinks they know about fasting.
The fact is that after your first long fast, you have experience, they have hearsay.
Repeating what somebody else said about something that very few people have experienced is easy. There are way to many armchair quarterbacks.
For all intents and purposes they are standing on the sidewalk watching the parade go by.
We need to respect those people. They believe what they are saying. They don't mean to drag you down. They just don't understand that the game we are playing is nothing like the game they are playing.
Respecting them doesn't mean letting their opinions effect you. We leave their words to them. We step outside of their world.
We are outside of the box thinkers. We learn by doing, not by reading, watching, or listening.
In short, we cut our own path.
Long term fasting will cause you to question everything about your past, present, and future.
It will make you question yourself to the point that you lose the belief in your fight.
Don't be mistaken. This is war. You will fight battles every day of your fast.
TV commercials, concerned family members, concerned friends, people in the fasting reddit, all of these and more, are all battles. Each battle takes your energy to fight them.
We all have a limit as to how much unintentional abuse that we can take.
Remember, we are playing a different game. We aren't better than them, it's just a different game.
To succeed we close off there words. We smile and nod without telling them they are wrong. Their rules don't apply. Remember, ours is a different game. We need our energy for other challenges, tougher challenges.
Once we're in a long fast our mind will scream at us. It doesn't Remember why it stored the fat. How could it. We don't live in a world where using fat for energy is part of the equation.
We know the truth. Fat is fuel. Combine that fat with electrolytes and vitamins and your body has a built in smorgasbord.
You will face many days where you question whether it is worth it. Days when the scales aren't moving, and you are constantly thinking about your comfort food, can push you close to your limit. If you aren't confident and forward thinking it can break you.
We play a game that is much like chess. Our move is the result of a strategy that we decided on several moves ago. We don't make in the moment decisions. We know the obstacles but we don't care because we set this strategy in motion days before. Today is temporary. It is here and gone in the blink of an eye.
Tomorrow. That's how we win today's battle. Our mind is already in tomorrow. How can we giving in today if we are already in a tomorrow frame of mind.
Our battle is intense. As with chess, sometimes we have to sacrifice a pawn, maybe even a knight. We do this by skipping a family gathering or a superbowl party if they fall within our fasting plan.
I've missed Easter, Thanksgiving, my birthday, my mom's birthday, mother's day, and 4th of july cookouts.
This game requires sacrifice. The weightloss is great. I've lost 240 pounds, but that is irrelevant.
Our true opponent is our mind. Nothing else can matter. In truth, nothing else exists. We stand alone. Alone against family, friends, and armchair experts.
On one fast, I was on day 56. My mind was done. I didn't think I had anything left in the gas tank, but I've faced things in life that totally wiped me out. I knew there is always just a little more left if we reach deep.
I held on. My mind was screaming. I couldn't hear anything but, "give in, it's over"
I dug deep. I went to my room. I just wanted to go to bed. I climbed on my bed. I couldn't climb under the covers. That would take too much external energy. I knelt on my bed. I rocked back and forth for three hours. I was sobbing uncontrollably. My body was shaking from the depth of those sobbs.
I made it. The tears ended. The rocking ended. I collapsed on my bed and slept for hours.
I faced one of the hardest challenges in my 55 years on this planet.
That victory is mine. Nobody can take it from me. Believe it or not several people from this fasting community tried. They told me that I was lying. They said I got lucky because I didn't die. They said I would cause someone to take their last breath.
I didn't care what they said, and I don't care now. The victory is mine. Any time I struggle I look back on that morning. I remember the intensity. I fought so hard, and I won. What challenge can I face in the future that could compare. The answer is, nothing. Nothing I will face can hold a candle to that day.
I've faced some extreme challenges. My girlfriend passed from cancer while laying in the bed beside of me. My mom went to prison when I was little. Our friend was murdered. One of our friends came over after he had been shot. We were robbed at gunpoint. None of that compared.
Even Marine Corps boot camp paled in comparison to that day.

A Different Game:
I'm not sure if I can explain this. I don't think that I totally understand it myself, but that's ok.
Long term fasting isn't about food, but you already knew that or you wouldn't be attempting a long fast.
This may not pertain to everyone that does a long fast. Maybe it won't pertain to any of them.
You may not know who I am, or of my situation. That's ok. I'm just some guy in a sub-reddit.
For me the battle is more important than the weightloss. Fasting can tear you down right to the core. It can lay you open and expose vulnerabilities that you didn't know you had.
That can be a good thing if you are ready for it. When you've faced something that stripes you down, you only have two ways to go. You either stay broken or you rebuild a new you.
Fasting isn't a team sport. The rebuilding process is a solo journey. You will face family and friends that mean well. You will face people on reddit that have watched a few videos of someone that thinks they know about fasting.
The fact is that after your first long fast, you have experience, they have hearsay.
Repeating what somebody else said about something that very few people have experienced is easy. There are way to many armchair quarterbacks.
For all intents and purposes they are standing on the sidewalk watching the parade go by.
We need to respect those people. They believe what they are saying. They don't mean to drag you down. They just don't understand that the game we are playing is nothing like the game they are playing.
Respecting them doesn't mean letting their opinions effect you. We leave their words to them. We step outside of their world.
We are outside of the box thinkers. We learn by doing, not by reading, watching, or listening.
In short, we cut our own path.
Long term fasting will cause you to question everything about your past, present, and future.
It will make you question yourself to the point that you lose the belief in your fight.
Don't be mistaken. This is war. You will fight battles every day of your fast.
TV commercials, concerned family members, concerned friends, people in the fasting reddit, all of these and more, are all battles. Each battle takes your energy to fight them.
We all have a limit as to how much unintentional abuse that we can take.
Remember, we are playing a different game. We aren't better than them, it's just a different game.
To succeed we close off there words. We smile and nod without telling them they are wrong. Their rules don't apply. Remember, ours is a different game. We need our energy for other challenges, tougher challenges.
Once we're in a long fast our mind will scream at us. It doesn't Remember why it stored the fat. How could it. We don't live in a world where using fat for energy is part of the equation.
We know the truth. Fat is fuel. Combine that fat with electrolytes and vitamins and your body has a built in smorgasbord.
You will face many days where you question whether it is worth it. Days when the scales aren't moving, and you are constantly thinking about your comfort food, can push you close to your limit. If you aren't confident and forward thinking it can break you.
We play a game that is much like chess. Our move is the result of a strategy that we decided on several moves ago. We don't make in the moment decisions. We know the obstacles but we don't care because we set this strategy in motion days before. Today is temporary. It is here and gone in the blink of an eye.
Tomorrow. That's how we win today's battle. Our mind is already in tomorrow. How can we giving in today if we are already in a tomorrow frame of mind.
Our battle is intense. As with chess, sometimes we have to sacrifice a pawn, maybe even a knight. We do this by skipping a family gathering or a superbowl party if they fall within our fasting plan.
I've missed Easter, Thanksgiving, my birthday, my mom's birthday, mother's day, and 4th of july cookouts.
This game requires sacrifice. The weightloss is great. I've lost 240 pounds, but that is irrelevant.
Our true opponent is our mind. Nothing else can matter. In truth, nothing else exists. We stand alone. Alone against family, friends, and armchair experts.
On one fast, I was on day 56. My mind was done. I didn't think I had anything left in the gas tank, but I've faced things in life that totally wiped me out. I knew there is always just a little more left if we reach deep.
I held on. My mind was screaming. I couldn't hear anything but, "give in, it's over"
I dug deep. I went to my room. I just wanted to go to bed. I climbed on my bed. I couldn't climb under the covers. That would take too much external energy. I knelt on my bed. I rocked back and forth for three hours. I was sobbing uncontrollably. My body was shaking from the depth of those sobbs.
I made it. The tears ended. The rocking ended. I collapsed on my bed and slept for hours.
I faced one of the hardest challenges in my 55 years on this planet.
That victory is mine. Nobody can take it from me. Believe it or not several people from this fasting community tried. They told me that I was lying. They said I got lucky because I didn't die. They said I would cause someone to take their last breath.
I didn't care what they said, and I don't care now. The victory is mine. Any time I struggle I look back on that morning. I remember the intensity. I fought so hard, and I won. What challenge can I face in the future that could compare. The answer is, nothing. Nothing I will face can hold a candle to that day.
I've faced some extreme challenges. My girlfriend passed from cancer while laying in the bed beside of me. My mom went to prison when I was little. Our friend was murdered. One of our friends came over after he had been shot. We were robbed at gunpoint. None of that compared.
Even Marine Corps boot camp paled in comparison to that day.

(First post on reddit so this should be fun) Does anyone else ever struggle with feeling? I really donāt know how to describe it but it feels like all my emotions are kinda dulled so whenever I hear about people having these intense emotions I feel like Iām missing out on something important. The last I ever crushed on someone was middle school, the last time I ever really felt sad was when a close family member passed a couple years ago, nowadays Iām perpetually bored outside of the small feeling of satisfaction/annoyance I get whenever I game and whenever Iām not gaming I have music blasting through my earbuds/headphones because I hate the lack of anything going on in my life. I donāt really have any friends irl except for one I met in elementary school and the other in middle school, neither of which I really visit irl and I have a hard time taking care of myself so trying to meet new people feels like a chore especially with my low social battery. I should probably talk to my father about seeing a psychiatrist but I always just end up discarding the thought, and even if I do what if I get told Iām healthy? I doubt I am but if they told me that I really wouldnāt know what to do because I donāt feel healthy. I donāt feel like I experience things how people should and that makes me feel like an outlier. Idk. I donāt know where to drag this rant at this point since Iāve kind of just been mindlessly tapping away but overall im just tired of feeling like Iām abnormal. We have choices we must make. A concerted effort to understand what's happening in the world and working to respond appropriately to matters of significance is very important ... It is more meaningful to try and make peace than it is to indulge our reckless behaviors so ignorantly and shamelessly. We are intelligent enough to make better decisions. It shouldn't be strange for people to breach these topics and to keep a focus on them and our role in affecting things in matters of importance. Time and space has brought us here, now, and this moment has power to it, in the way you might let yourself recognize reality for what it is ... That absurd experience of ourselves & our environment. It is all that is happening, and it is happening, and as the dominant species, it would make sense if in overdeveloping around the world, we would lose our understanding of nature as we once understood it, or need to understand it. That basic awareness is the most important aspect to understanding reality as it is ... It provides you all the insight you need into why it's unacceptable to lounge about in an indulgent state to whatever extent we're able at a point in time when we need each other. Our time and energy should be brought forth to try and meet the moment with the mindfulness it deserves ... We need to try harder to do right. We can be heroes.

Hello! I've read a few posts on this topic on here but I'm also curious to people's thoughts about my specific situation.
For a little context, my primary partner (I'll call them X) and I are in a long distance relationship and have been for 6 years. We have an 8 hour time difference so are only in communication for about half of our awake hours (my evenings, their mornings). A couple of years ago we began to explore being poly. This was motivated by the fact that X has more sex and intimacy needs and has much more physically open friendships and wanted to explore a more free and open way to engage with the people they interact with, all of which I'm fully on board with. I haven't explored other relationships myself, not for any reason other than I am a demisexual autistic and I haven't met anyone I would like to pursue anything with and I don't have the same needs for physical or emotional intimacy outside of my relationship with X (I have my close intimate friendships and I love my alone time). But as you can imagine, navigating imbalances around time and contact has been tricky. I have also struggled a little with the social expectations around X's relationships, as they say they aren't necessarily dating, or in partnership with their other relationships, but it's more that they have deep friendships with deep physical and sexual intimacy. (Unfortunately my brain needs structure, detail and specifics in order to feel comfortable in knowing how is appropriate to socially engage). For example we don't really have a term to describe their other relationships (I'll use meta here).
This brings me to the situation that when X is with Meta's they would ideally like me to continue to engage in communication the same way we always do (specifically messaging throughout the day. We usually reserve cold calling each other at times we know the other is likely free) as they don't feel their communication is any different than when they are busy with general life stuff, hanging out with friends etc. However, my experience is that communication is significantly different when they are spending time with Metas (which makes sense to me as they are wanting to spend time with that person and are focused on them during that time). The problem is if I am messaging them as usual and then getting distracted responses or no responses for much longer periods of time and outside of our usual routine I find it hyper-focuses my attention on this change of routine in an unhelpful way. I start to feel more "bothered" than I usually would from lack of responses. Which is an internal response I feel uncomfortable with personally, as it's not a response that aligns with my values or usual feelings around contact and expectations. I find I'm checking my phone more to see if they've responded or not and it becomes distracting. Or they'll message me if the social activity they are at isn't super engaging to them and if it is super engaging I get no contact. Now, I am addressing the personal insecurity or lack of security this actually might just be highlighting for me so I can process that. However, it still seems to be breeding this feeling of imbalance and lack of security. It seems to bring up this feeling of 'X is free to have their needs met with Metas but my time is my time and they don't necessarily get to have my undivided attention during those times, or seek me out when they need something from me and otherwise I hear nohing' which doesn't feel good to me and feels like a toxic mindset. (This whole process has highlighted a deep rooted feeling of being "used" due to my past experiences with people, and that has definitely been an eye opener lol)
I was curious if anyone else experiences or has experienced something similar and how they navigated it? Because I am struggling with these thought patterns and struggling to find a constructive way to work through it.

Hello, I'm 23 and I have a bachelor's in Biology and this year I will finish my master's. I've been thinking a lot about the option of doing a PhD for some time. I've applied for a PhD with a project and I'll know the result in September, however there is a lot of competition applying for founding and since I didn't finish my master's yet, the chances of me getting it are low. The project came about when a researcher who really inspires me and with whom I have a good relationship, as I have already done an internship with her and she taught me some classes. So, she mentioned a project she is applying for as the PI and included me in the group for the funding application. This opened up the possibility for me to apply for a PhD also with this project, which I found very interesting. The situation is that even though the chances are low, I keep wondering if pursuing a PhD right now is the right decision. I truly feel that it's something I want, but I realize that my current idea of a PhD is probably quite different from reality. I see that a very common opinion is that waiting a few years to do a PhD and gaining more professional experience completely changes one's mindset, and people have a completely different level of maturity. I understand and completely agree with that. The thing is, I look back at my bachelor's and even master's degrees and know that if I did them now with more maturity, it would also be completely different, and even more so if I did them 10 years later. Even so, I don't regret it because I feel that things happen when they are meant to happen, and there will always be a time with more experience and maturity. A lot of people say to take the opportunity to travel or take a gap year, but even working part-time now, I wouldn't have the money for a big trip. I did Erasmus, took the opportunity to visit countries, and made the most of academic life, so part of me feels fulfilled with these years and doesn't feel the need for a big change now to enjoy life. Even if I don't get the opportunity I applied for, the question is whether exploring other PhD options would be right for me. I would like to experience the industry at some point in my life, but I don't feel it's the right time yet. Someone once told me that itās harder to move from industry to academia than the other way around, and I don't know how true that is, but I understand why it might be. I look at the job market and don't get excited about the idea that those who go into industry earn more, and so on, because what I see a lot now is them offering bachelor's-level salaries to master's graduates and other bad situations, but that's always a matter of luck (Europe). The job market doesn't attract anyone, and I no longer have hope of staying in my country for this time of my life. I think that if I had this PhD opportunity (abroad), it would be a waste to let it go. And I believe it's a good time to invest in myself and my education. Sorry about the lengthy text, I just wanted to hear some opinions from those who have experience or are in a similar situation.

I was already reeling from losing one friend who accused me of sex-trafficking my wife.
Then I got an email from a different online friend who has known me for longer, over a year and a half, though not in person.
Not going to respond to this email, and blocked her so she can't email me again. But I'm obsessing about it and can't stop wondering if these two people who now hate me are correct.
I feel like my entire life has revolved around this cycle:
My wife would think the idea I sex-trafficked her ridiculous. But isn't that exactly what a gaslit abused woman would say? And she would launch into a long lecture of her own.
This is why I'm so scared and confused. Everyone says you have to be self-confident and love yourself for people to like you. But the moment I actually do become self-confident or defend my life in any way, people hate me. Even writing this post...my ex-friend would say it's just part of the problem, endless pleas for attention and sympathy.
Is the problem just me? Am I just...evil?
Do I even deserve to live? Am I only a shameless attention seeker?

You are easily hurt, true, but the voice that speaks from your wounds is that of hurt narcissism. Had you been born as a white man, with exactly the same traits you have, you would not care at all about the plight of ethnic minorities in any country.I've shared my experiences with racism with her before, she even commissioned a long piece from me about it for her e-zine. But now she says my anti-racism is really just narcissism, that I am prejudiced against white people, and care nothing about white children.

- Go back to step 1.
