I'm from the Philippines 🇵🇭 ✅ Born in the Covenant ✅ Primary: Faith in God Award ✅ Young Women: Personal Progress (4x) ✅ Ward Missionary ✅ Seminary 5 years (Old & New Testament, D&C, Pearl of Great Price, Book of Mormon 2x). ✅ Sunday school teacher ✅ Young Women Secretary (5 years) ✅ Relief Society Activity Coordinator ✅ Family History Service Missionary ✅ Institute (4 years) ✅ Temple ordinances (baptism for the dead, endowment, proxy sealing: husband & wife, parents, family) ❌ Applied for Full-time Mission last 2018. My Bishop asked me to have a "down payment" for my mission fund so that it can be processed right away. I paid $646 (₱37,800). But after a few months, my Stake President received a letter from Salt Lake and told me that I'm not going on a mission... without any explanations why I'm not allowed to serve given that I've done everything since Primary. It broke my heart... and my wallet 🤣 because of course there's no chance of getting a "refund". Yet, I still continued to be "worthy."
For so many years, I've always devoted my life to my family and the Mormon church. I've always had 2 or more callings every year. My family, relatives, friends, classmates, and teachers were all looking up to me as a "good example". My highschool classmates even encouraged me to discuss the "Plan of Salvation" in our classroom's white board. Guess what happened? 🤣 They were all shocked and amazed at how complex it was. They always asked me to pray during school events and competitions. I'm the only "Mormon" in our batch, and still they respected my beliefs.
Last 2022, I declined 2 Stake callings just because I have existing callings already and I'm so occupied with my college thesis. I also resigned to my 2 Ward callings. Then, after my college graduation, I felt lost. I'm burned out. I'm asking myself, "now what?"
Since I was a young woman, I've always observed and said to myself and my family that the Mormon church is an "ORGANIZED RELIGION". I've observed that it has many RULES. It has PATTERNS. It has a "COVENANT PATH" (seminary, institute, endowment, mission, BYU, temple marriage, children, etc). Like, "why is everybody doing things so similar?" 🤔 "How about me? I still don't want to date and get married, I don't even want to have kids. I want to further my studies, have a career, and explore life." I also said to myself, "I DON'T want to be racist and homophobic". 😭 My moral values conflict with the church's doctrines in so many ways.
Then, I decided I want to be an USRN in Utah because there's the Salt Lake City, there's a lot of "Mormons" there, I felt I will be "in" because of the same beliefs, same culture, and same religion. That's when I started to “DEEP DIVE” about sa “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”. I used my COMMON SENSE and CRITICAL THINKING as I did my PERSONAL RESEARCH about the church, its history and teachings. I meditate, pray, write my questions before I sleep, as I sleep my subconscious mind gets to work, approaching the questions from a variety of angles and making connections that may hold the answers. My other questions, observations, and past experiences begin to resurface. When I wake up in the morning, I pray, meditate and do my personal study to find the answers to my questions. I studied from the church resources, gospel library, scriptures, lessons, articles, research findings, news, YouTube, reddit, etc. I analyzed, compared, and connected my findings. I removed my BIASES. After going down a DEEP RABBIT HOLE, finally, I discovered the REAL TRUTH about “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

I decided to leave “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” NOT because I wanted to sin and NOT because I'm a lazy learner. I chose to leave “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” because it is NOT true. It is NOT a church, it is a CORPORATION. I need your advice on writing task 2. I just timed myself in a TestReady writing task and I managed to write the following in the given 10 minutes. the e-rater gave me 5/5 for this.

The topic of taking a gap between high school graduation and entrance to university has generated much discussion in recent years and it presents its own set of challenges. However, I would like to express my opinion on this. I closely align with Andrew's perspective that it will give the students a platform to really dig deep into the subjects and really know what it actually is to have some hands-on fieldwork. Furthermore, I would like to emphasize that so many people like in my country Iran need to do obligatory military service by the age of 18 and entering some university might be some sort of motive to delay that but after graduation, you still have to attend that period of 2 years which is somehow considered as a gap between studies and field work. Thus, I think it would be really beneficial for most to take a gap and hold back for a second and try to see things from a different perspective, It might not be really essential for everybody to enrol in a university program. Claire raised the relevant point that if the students take a gap prices may skyrocket in between but I think she misses a critical point that period they might transition into something completely different and not pursue academic education ever again. So yeah, I think it's super helpful that most students if not all of them, take some sort of break before entering university and starting their professional life.

Hi everyone. This is a cry for help. I have royally fucked up my life with wrong decisions and I don't see a redemption anytime soon. I had a good start to my career with a job in IT and I left the job to pursue Civil Services. After repeated attempts, I failed to clear my examinations and I am over age now. I want to find a job and I am not able to land one because of the huge gap in my resume. I worked in DEV OPS before resigning. Hey all, I want to share some general info that I think will help employees better advocate for themselves. I’m writing all of this out on mobile so I apologize for bad formatting. Additionally, there’s so much information regarding this niche topic and I want to do my best to provide adequate information and resources without being burdensome. I would like to do more posts like this that highlights rights in the workplace, so any comments, suggestions are welcome.
First, OSHA enforces health and safety standards for private industry employees and the US postal service. The information in this post is specific to Federal OSHA regulations. Some states have State OSHA plans with health and safety rules that are at least as effective as federal OSHA rules. In regards to who pays for PPE, this distinction is important as some states don’t have exceptions and require the employer to cover the cost for PPE in all circumstances. To see if the state that you occupy has a state OSHA plan, check out the OSHA page here.
OSHA published its Final Rule on PPE payment requirements in 2007, where it made several clarifications. The publication in its entirety can be found here. The final rule applies to all industries under OSHA (except for agriculture).
General requirements for PPE in general industry (where most private employees fall) are found under 1910.132, linked here, and 1926.28 for construction, lined here.
The employer is required to identify hazards in the workplace and to provide controls to those hazards to protect employees. If the employer determines that PPE is required to control hazards/protect employees, the employer is required to provide that PPE at no cost to the employee (though there are exceptions).
PPE “including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact.” The PPE needs to be adequate in controlling the hazard that it is being used to control, and should be provided in a size that fits the employee.
What does the PPE final rule NOT apply to?
• Uniforms, caps, or other clothing worn solely to identify a person as an employee.
• Items worn to keep employees clean for purposes unrelated to health or safety. Denim coveralls, aprons or other apparel, when worn solely to prevent clothing and/or skin from becoming soiled (dirt).
• Items worn for product safety, consumer safety, or patient safety and health, rather than employee safety and health.
• PPE that is not required by the employer.
Employer is NOT required to pay for: • Non-specialty safety-toe protective footwear (including steel-toe shoes/boots). Specially boots would be those with additional non-slip or electrical protection.
• Non-specialty non-prescription safety eyewear. Specialty safety eyewear would be goggles or glasses rated for laser or welding energy.
• PPE that is permitted to be worn off the job-site.
• Logging boots required by 29 CFR 1910.266(d)(1)(v).
• Everyday clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts, long pants, street shoes, and normal work boots, even when the employer requires employees to use them, and the clothing provides protection. This includes ordinary shoes that are non-slip (those worn in restaurants), even when required by the employer.
• Ordinary clothing, skin creams, or other items, used solely for protection from weather, such as winter coats, jackets, gloves, parkas, rubber boots, hats, raincoats, ordinary sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Exceptions to weather gear payment requirements: • If ordinary weather gear is not sufficient to protect the employee, and special equipment or extraordinary clothing is needed to protect the employee from unusually severe weather conditions, the employer is required to pay for the protection.
• Weather refers to natural conditions, not artificial conditions. So clothing used to protect employees from artificial heat or cold is not included in the exception. Example: freezer warehouse, oil rig in Alaska, firefighting clothing.
If the employer requires employees to keep the following non-specialty items at the workplace, then payment is required: • Safety-toe protective footwear (including non-specialty steel-toe shoes or steel-toe boots).
• Prescription eyeglass inserts for respirator.
• Non-skid safety-toe shoes.
Who pays for PPE when it needs to be replaced? • The employer is required to replace PPE.
• The employer is not required to replace PPE when the employe has lost, stolen, or intentionally damaged the PPE.
Regarding employee-owned PPE: • Where an employee provides adequate PPE that he or she owns, pursuant to paragraph (b) of 1910.132, the employer may allow the employee to use it and is not required to reimburse the employee for that equipment.
• The employer shall not require an employee to provide or pay for his or her own PPE, unless the PPE is excepted by paragraphs (h)(2) through (h)(5) of 1910.132.
• Employee use of own PPE is completely voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time. This means that the employer is still responsible for making sure the PPE is adequate, properly maintained, and sanitary.
• PPE CANNOT BE a condition of employment.
Are reimbursement programs allowable under OSHA? • Yes, reimbursement programs are allowed under the standard. However, those kinds of reimbursement programs should normally not take more than one pay cycle. Bear in mind though, the time to purchase the PPE is not covered as the employer would not be required to pay for the employees time to go and purchase that PPE.

2024.06.01 08:13 doom32x Mother had e-check returned indicating loan paid in full, but payment is still on her bank account.

So my mother took out a sizeable loan with an interest-free payback period for home improvement, it was with Benji Concord, now ran by Finance of America.
It was all due by beginning June. She usually paid with the Bill Pay system via her credit union, which uses ACH/echecks. She made her 2nd to last payment of $280 like two weeks before the due date, she noticed after like 10 days that the money still was in her account and said fuck it and paid the entire remaining balance of $520 via the servicer's own website to avoid any shenanigans with the interest. She provided her routing and acct# so it must've been an ACH payment initiated from the servicer side. The $520 was the $280 plus whatever was left for last payment.
Well, fast forward a few weeks and she gets a check in a mail for $280 overpayment, so that 1st payment had eventually went through after she made the 2nd one. She deposited it into her acct. Now a new check as arrived, except it's for $520 and my mother is the payer and Benji Concord the payee. It has what looks like a handwritten "p" on the face of the check and came with a letter saying that the payment couldn't be processed due to no balance due on account, paid in full. The $520 is still debited from her account, we can't access her loan servicer account because they pulled access as soon as it was paid in full it seems.
Is it possible that Benji Concord is just being fucking stupid, sent the paper check and note for no reason? We realize it can't be deposited, but they can't be contacted until Monday and are just completely confused on what the purpose of this returned payment was if they actually did take the money. She hasn't received the Paid in Full paperwork yet even though it's been paid for over a month now. Main worry is that if they somehow use this stuff to say it wasn't paid all of a sudden.

I wanted to share my very recent experience (22 May) of using the 144-hour TWOV route into China. I found information provided by others on Reddit extremely helpful and that information made it all work for me. My routing was Barcelona-London Heathrow-Shanghai on British Airways and I was travelling for business on a British passport. My third country on leaving China was Vietnam (HCMC) on China Southern Airlines. I planned to stay in China for 5 days in total but still inside the 144 hours. In preparation for the trip I printed the following on the advice of others here: - All travel details including ticket and seat confirmations for onward travel and hotel names, addresses, phone numbers for Shanghai and HCMC - Print out in English of the latest Chinese gov TWOV policy which lists Shanghai as a destination - Timatic/IATA screenshots inputted by me of my routing including Vietnam as the destination - not China, and BA as the carrier (more on this in a moment as to how BA may deal with this or not) - Contact details of my company colleagues in Shanghai (multinational company with major presence in China)
I suspected in advance that starting in Barcelona would be an issue due to lack of familiarity with TWOV of the check in staff. I would not have had the same concern if starting at LHR. And so this was indeed the case, so a word of warning for anyone using a non-major hub of a major carrier! Perhaps it is because Spanish nationals have been visa exempt for a while so the process is not well know to airline staff - same probably goes for other EU countries. I had tried in advance to call BA Spain but on mention of the words TWOV they (twice) put the phone down on me after saying it was one for the Chinese embassy (great customer service). I doubt that any airline staff will confirm the option is possible before you buy the ticket. Although the BA app let me check in online and made the boarding passes, this came with a “you must present your travel documents at the airport” caveat.
So I arrived about 30 mins earlier than normal in expectation of a fight and yes, the check in staff started off with “you need a visa”. I explained I was TWOV and showed them Timatic, which generated antibodies. (“we have worked here for a long time” sarcasm). I took it (with my bad Spanish) that they had seen this perhaps a handful of times before but they then spent about 10 minutes putting Shanghai as the destination. I explained that Vietnam had to be the destination. Cue another 10 minutes followed by no, we have to put Shanghai as we are flying you to Shanghai. I was starting to become pretty concerned at this point. I showed them again and let us call her the less sarcastic “good cop” check in agent moved to another terminal and phoned a colleague. Another 10 minutes later the colleague arrived and took over. At this point - magic - the routing worked and I was checked in. Major relief. I arrived at LHR and there was no need to repeat the process as both boarding passes given to me at BCN. I’ve been a loyal BA customer over the years so UK customer service will be hearing about the attitude problems.
On arrival into Shanghai you are presented first with a self-finger print scan (not needed for TWOV) and tables with the wrong (visa entry) landing cards. You have to keep going right up to the desks which are clearly marked 144 hour transit (lots of desks and not much of a queue for me) and the TWOV-specific landing cards are there on the side tables. On the landing card you can select tourism / business etc and I had no problems on selecting business (and was not asked for a letter of invite that colleagues travelling on visas needed to provide).
At the border desk they took a long look at my passport and did my fingerprints at the desk. Another border guard then came to the desk and called me to sit in a waiting area while he went off with my passport. I have a lot of passport stamps (very important for TWOV - NONE FROM TURKEY). Perhaps it was the stamps or because I didn’t make clear the onward seat number on my reservation print out…. but that was another 15 mins of anxious waiting, but eventually he came back with the TWOV sticker, stuck it in my passport and into China I went.
In summary: I would do this again but you’ll need to have strong nerves to handle the unaware check in staff. As I noted, I don’t think there is a way around this as no airline will say the TWOV is OK before booking. You just have to force it at the check-in desk and insist. Happy to answer Qs on this experience!
