2024.06.01 12:55 Vast_Hat_8269 Dental Care for Diabetics: Special Considerations and Tips

Dentist in Kalyani Nagar

Maintaining good dental hygiene is crucial for everyone, but for individuals with diabetes, it is even more vital. Diabetes not only affects your overall health but also has a significant impact on your oral health.
Poor blood sugar control can lead to various dental problems, making it essential for diabetics to take extra care of their teeth and gums. Dentist in kalyani nagar
In this blog, we will discuss the special considerations and tips for dental care that every diabetic should know.

The Connection Between Diabetes and Oral Health

Diabetes can disturb oral health in various ways:
  1. Gum Disease: High blood sugar levels can lead to an increased risk of gum disease (periodontitis). This condition causes inflammation and infection in the gums and bones that support the teeth, potentially leading to tooth loss if not managed properly. Dentist in kalyani nagar
  2. Dry Mouth: Diabetes can reduce saliva flow, leading to dry mouth (xerostomia). Saliva is crucial for neutralizing acids produced by bacteria and for washing away food particles, so a lack of it can increase the risk of cavities and infections.
  3. Thrush: Diabetics are more susceptible to fungal infections like thrush, which can cause white patches in the mouth and tongue, leading to discomfort and difficulty swallowing. Dentist in kalyani nagar
  4. Delayed Healing: High blood sugar levels can impair the body’s ability to heal itself. This means that cuts, sores, or infections in the mouth may take longer to heal, increasing the risk of complications.
Understanding these connections highlights the importance of diligent dental care for diabetics. Here are some special considerations and tips to help manage your oral health effectively. Dentist in kalyani nagar

Special Considerations for Diabetic Dental Care

  1. Monitor Blood Sugar Levels
Keeping your blood sugar levels under control is the first step in preventing oral health problems. Consistently high blood sugar can weaken the body’s ability to fight infections, including those in the mouth. Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels and follow your doctor’s advice to keep them within the target range.
  1. Regular Dental Check-ups
Frequent dental visits are essential for early detection and management of potential issues. Diabetics should see their dentist at least twice a year for specialized cleanings and checkups. Inform your dentist about your diabetes so they can provide the best care tailored to your needs. Dentist in kalyani nagar
  1. Comprehensive Oral Hygiene Routine
Adopting a thorough oral hygiene routine is crucial for preventing dental problems. Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss daily to remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gums. Consider using an antibacterial mouthwash to reduce the risk of gum disease.
  1. Look Out for Symptoms
Be vigilant about any changes or symptoms in your mouth. Mutual symptoms of gum disease include red, swollen, or bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, and loose teeth. If you notice any of these symptoms, schedule an appointment with your dentist immediately. Dentist in kalyani nagar
  1. Manage Dry Mouth
If you experience dry mouth, there are several steps you can take to alleviate the discomfort and reduce the risk of dental problems:
  1. Quit Smoking
Smoking is harmful to everyone’s oral health, but it’s especially dangerous for diabetics. It increases the risk of gum disease, dry mouth, and oral cancer. Quitting smoking can meaningfully improve your oral and overall health.

Tips for Maintaining Optimal Oral Health

  1. Choose the Right Dental Products
Select dental care products that cater to your specific needs. For example, toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth can help if you experience discomfort. Electric toothbrushes can be more effective at eliminating plaque than manual toothbrushes. Fluoride rinses can strengthen your teeth and help prevent decay.
  1. Maintain a Balanced Diet
A healthy diet plays a crucial role in managing diabetes and maintaining oral health. Limit your intake of sugary and acidic foods, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Instead, focus on a balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Dentist in kalyani nagar
  1. Hydration
Staying hydrated is essential for overall health and helps combat dry mouth. Drink water regularly and avoid sugary drinks, which can increase the risk of cavities.
  1. Stress Management
Stress can negatively impact both diabetes and oral health. High-stress levels can lead to poor blood sugar control and unhealthy habits like neglecting oral hygiene. Practice stress management techniques such as regular exercise, meditation, and adequate sleep. Dentist in kalyani nagar
  1. Medication Management
Some medications for diabetes can have side effects that affect oral health. For example, certain drugs may cause dry mouth. Discuss with your doctor or dentist about managing these side effects effectively. They may recommend saliva substitutes or other treatments to help.
  1. Educate Yourself
Stay informed about the latest research and recommendations for diabetes management and oral health. Knowledge is a powerful tool in preventing and managing complications. Attend diabetes education programs and read reliable sources to keep yourself updated. Dentist in kalyani nagar

Conclusion

For diabetics, maintaining good oral health requires a combination of diligent self-care and professional guidance. By understanding the connection between diabetes and dental health and implementing these special considerations and tips, you can reduce the risk of complications and enjoy a healthy mouth and body.
Remember, managing your diabetes effectively and taking proactive steps toward oral hygiene can go a long way in ensuring your overall well-being. Dentist in Kalyani nagar

2024.06.01 12:16 Plastic_Day6948 My story. Thoughts?

Hi all. New here. 51 year old man. Here is my story. Diagnosed with T2D August of 2022. I went on a workout binge and diet and reduced my A1c from 12.5 to 6.8 in about 8-9 weeks. Today my A1c is in the 5’s.
During the first week of November 2022 I developed seering pain, warmth and redness at night (between 6-8pm to 2-4am) in soles of feet and toes bilaterally. Pretty much every time I layed down or elevated my feet in chair. The week of Thanksgiving 2022 was the worst of my life. I spent Thanksgiving day in the basement standing on cement to cool off feet. Walking around seems to alleviate the issue somewhat. Showers were terrible with pain with even warm/cool water. The burning pain was within 20 seconds of hitting the water. Allodynia? This was soles of feet only. Went to neurologist in January 2023 and she stated I developed insulin neuritis aka treatment induced neuropathy (TIND). This is a form of SFN where you lower your A1c too quickly and your body basically goes into shock. During this time (November-January), Suicide was on my mind. Had a nervous breakdown. I’m not sure the SFN part is better. I do know that SFN nerves can regrow very very slowly (1mm per day). I’ve read more papers on TIND and joined several forums on the subject. A lot of people develop this and EM with it. Most seem to get better. Not sure if EM ever went totally away.
I am wondering if my EM is part of this SFN and TIND. I’ve watched Dr. Oaklander’s video on SFN and EM. Definitely seem to be a link between the two.
Around January 2023, the intense burning seemed to taper to just 6-8pm. I can now take hot showers. At night I developed zaps and muscle spasms…this too is part of SFN associated with TIND. Was told will get better. That did.
I don’t get a flare with showers. I do sometimes get a flare when I get hot but those go away pretty quickly compared to the nightly flares. The pain is primarily in tips of toes and sometimes on the top of toes now and sometimes it effects one foot at a time.
I still get hot toes between 6-9pm almost every night. Definitely feels like a circadian rhythm-parasympathetic thing.
I get a stinging pain and redness but not too swollen and I don’t cool feet. There are days, maybe 2-3 in a row where I don’t get any flares. There are days where I only get a flare when I lay down for bed. If I get a flare say at 8pm but I’m not laying down, after it disappears 1-2 hours later, I won’t get a second flare once I lay down. The pain usually lasts 1-2 hours. Not through the night. I sleep with blanket on but no socks. I’m actually afraid to try socks.
I’m thinking this is EM and it’s lingering from my TIND. Not sure if it will ever totally go away. I haven’t gone down the road of genetic testing yet. Not sure I want/need to. It’s definitely not as bad as it once was.
Just wanted to share. My fear is this thing getting worse over time. I think it’s secondary and not primary.
Thoughts?

2024.06.01 07:07 Bab-Zwayla Experience with treating MRSA/Staph with Garlic/Tumeric/Honey (deep puncture wound/infected abscesses)

I have successfully treated MRSA & and Staphylococcus with a poultice; made from crushed garlic (8 cloves), tumeric (1/8 cup) and honey (1/8 cup), which can be used for about 4 days before ingredients need to be replaced. The poultice should be applied to a gently-washed wound twice a day if there is a lot of drainage, but if the wound is not draining much then once a day is alright. The area should be covered with a sterile bandage to be replaced with each cleaning.
The poultice should be applied immediately upon signs of infection, usually when there is noticable pronounced redness or swelling in or around the wound. In the past, I waited until after the wound had swollen and had begun to drain or was able to be drained manually and then cleaned and applied the medicine, with an average of 7-10 days for the wound to close and build strong, and healthy new tissue. However, I noticed that particularly for infected abscesses from deep puncture wounds (which don't often have an open wound feature in the beginning and just swell up like large painful cysts), if the treatment is applied immediately upon the swelling period that happens within the first 3 to 4 days of infection, there is a significantly short healing period-- on average it takes only about 3 days. Even for larger wounds that would have taken about two weeks before.
The largest wound I've treated with this method was about the size of an orange-- but I would suggest that wounds of this size or larger size be looked at by a medical professional as it may require surgical drainage or the removal of damaged, and possibly necrotic, tissue. These were all deep puncture wounds from street drug injections and the method has been perfected through my intense fear of hospitals and past drug addiction and lack of skill with a needle.
I've treated around 10-12 infections as I got them frequently. In the past when I went to the hospital, wounds took longer to heal and I experienced allergic reactions to antibiotics (nausea, hives, chills, headache) in addition to nurses and doctors treating me differently because of my drug problem (despite the fact I am a very polite, respectful, and soft spoken person). The only issues I've had are chemical burns when I had a larger ratio of garlic to honey, but upon increasing the amount of honey and decreasing the amount of garlic, this is no longer an issue. The mixture is soothing and helps the pain of the infection as well.
It also helps to take b12, magnesium, and vitamin C when you have an infection, and make sure you are getting all the nutrients, water, and minimal excersise you need-- a healthy diet and excersise is crucial to helping your body fight off infections.

2024.06.01 04:54 mamacass24 The Inkey List Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Body Stick (+ Salicylic Acid and Shea Butter)

The Inkey List has a new product that puts chemical exfoliants into a deodorant-esque stick form. I'm not sure how many people will benefit from this... maybe others like me who fall in the middle of the Venn Diagram between KP and ADHD.
I am super excited about this because I cannot stick to a routine for the life of me (so applying special KP lotion to my body after taking a shower, for example, doesn't happen), I'm always late for things (and don't have time to slather myself in lotion post-shower morning routine), and putting wet lotion all over my body and then putting clothes on is a sensory nightmare for me. I hate it.
This product solves a lot of those issues. It's quick, I don't have to rub it in, and it looks like my deodorant, which prompts my brain to remember to use it when I put actual deodorant on. Just wanted to share in case it can help anyone else. I can't comment on the efficacy yet as I just started using it, but it contains 7% glycolic acid AHA, 0.5% salicylic acid BHA, and 10% shea butter (plus The Inkey List products are always nice and reasonably priced, comparatively).

2024.06.01 03:04 VoctorDralidas {Fan Fic} Combat Artificer: Hemotheurge - 1

Michael crawled over the broken windshield glass and sandy dirt to his girlfriend, Sam. Every breath he took was labored as he inched over to her, he distantly felt the pain. He knew he had broken most of his ribs, his legs, and most of the bones in his left arm, but that was nothing compared to the injuries she had sustained being on the passenger side when it was struck.
Sweat mixed with the blood on his forehead, dripping into and making his eyes sting. Her breathing was becoming more and more shallow, as desperation welled in his mind. Their twisted wreck that was some distance away began to smoke, before flames began to lick from the inside of the hood.
“If any gods or demons can hear me, I beg of you, please. Please spare her life.” He hoarsely whispered. “I’ll give you anything, everything, just please. She has children who need her more than they need me.”
---OFFER ACCEPTED---
---YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR TRANSLOCATION---
The voice rolled through his mind like the deep and powerful rumblings of a storm.
Michael began to pass out, his vision slowly fading.
As the last rays of light hit his eyes, he saw her wounds closing to heal. His eyes rolled back.

---INITIATING GODSMARKED TRAINING---
He was standing somewhere. Somewhere? It was a void, neither light, nor dark, but –NULL–. He could still see himself, his hand in front of his face, wearing the same long black shirt and black cargo pants, despite the apparent lacking of light. He didn’t hurt anymore.
“Greeting [Godsmarked]. I am here to give you your training.”
Directly to his right, a few feet away from him, was a figure clad entirely in deep purple robes. Their hands were clothed in stunningly white gloves, while their hood obscured any attempts to discern the face inside.
“So, a god or multiple gods heard my offer, and took me up on it. I suppose I am here to render my payment,” Michael mused. “I’ll cry later for what I sacrificed on that altar. Who are you, and what do I need to train for?”
“I am Estoc, [Servant] of the Divines. You are being given training on how to utilize the most common magical elements of the plane you are being transported to, for the gods own amusement or some grander purpose. Who can say which one it is?” Estoc said as they shrugged, while their robe shifted shades of purple.
“Please be aware, this process may sting. The last [Godsmarked] complained quite loudly.” Estoc waved their hand, and Michael hissed with a sharp intake of air as if the crown of his skull were branded with an iron.
“The knowledge you have gained will give you the intrinsic ability to will a Status Window into being. This Status Window will display your classes, titles, certain physical attributes, injuries, magical power, and any skills gained from classes or titles. As you use this Status Window, you will grow in familiarity with its function, but all sapient beings of this realm are able to utilize this function from early childhood.
Classes represent pathways that grant access to active and passive skills over the course of a person’s development, representing their personal specialties and the applications of those specialties. Each adult has at least one class, and the limit is five, though as classes level up and synergies develop, classes may merge to become new classes opening up additional slots, as well as prompting the selection of a replacement class.
You are being transported to the realm of Tillania.
Good luck on your journey, Michael Judge.” Estoc tilted their head to the side as though listening to something, and in a lower register said, “Sam Iron will make a full recovery in the hospital.”
Michael dropped his chin to his chest, sniffed, and a tear rolled down his cheek. He sighed, and looked back up, only to see that Estoc was gone. He wiped his face, and steeled himself for the possibilities.
---GODSMARKED TRAINING COMPLETED---
---CALCULATING CLASS CHOICES---
The white words appeared on the white bordered black Status Window that appeared in front of him.
---CALCULATION COMPLETE. CLASS OPTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS. SELECT TWO---
-[Magus (Fungus)]
-[Magus (Necromancy)]
-[Medic]
-[Soldier]
-[Priest]
-[Clerk]
-[Trader]
Michael stared at the screen and let his thoughts wander over why these were his choices. The fungus mage felt a little on the nose, he had been devoted to a decentralized religion that revered psilocybin as its sacrament, and experimented with his own. The Soldier was from his time in the Army. Trader from working a certain general store chain with the word “Dollar” in it when he was young and poor. Priest was from his time studying religion and coaching others. Medic from his time working in the hospital as a laboratory technician, and in the army with a medical brigade support battalion.
He didn’t want to be a priest, or a fungus mage, at least not at first. Soldier, while useful, didn’t lend itself to the role he wanted to see himself in. But necromancy? He thought it over some more as to why that was the case.
The modern concept of necromancy involved raising the dead, zombies, skeletons, ghouls, disturbing the dead. The classical concept, however, was involved with any magic associated with dead flesh, including magic meant to investigate health conditions or divine futures from stool, skin, muscle tissue, urine, or blood. He had been steeped in tabletop roleplaying games, as well as classical myths of the various kinds of undead, and the various kinds of necromancers. It would seem, then, that this world would occasionally have to deal with the existence of undead. If that were the case, he thought that he might have a better time being able to sell himself as an expert on preventing and exorcising them. He had always been in love with the idea of the undead, though he thought that it would probably be more socially acceptable if he didn’t create any.
As to the other class? He felt most at home being able to treat others.
---CLASS CHOICES ACCEPTED---
---GENERATING CLASS SKILLS---
[MAGUS (NECROMANCER)] Level 1

---CLASS SKILLS GENERATED. YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED TWO BOONS AS COMPENSATION FOR BEING REMOVED FROM YOUR LOCAL REALM---
---BOON 1 DISPENSED---
Title: [Godsmarked] – Imparts several passives on the title holder.
Boon: [Reformation] – Physical ailments and deformities have been healed.
Michael blinked. His vision had improved, and he put away his glasses. For some reason, his thoughts came clearer to him as well.
Passive Skill: [Heaven’s Bounty] – You may receive additional objects from defeated foes.
Passive Skill: [Speak in Tongues] – Proficiency in vernacular languages of new realm provided.
Passive Skill: [Quest] – Patrons may provide you with tasks and rewards.
Passive Skill: [Titled] – You have a greater chance of receiving titles than normal.
Passive Skill: [Regenerative] – You heal more quickly than usual, to the point where, given enough time, you may even regrow a limb.
Active Skill: [Cargo Space] – Integrated inventory function in status window. Mana Cost: [None]
---BOON 2 DISPENSED. CHOOSE FROM PERSONALLY OWNED ITEMS IN FORMER REALM AS EQUIPMENT. MUST FIT IN INVENTORY OR OWN PERSON---
Michael thought about it. He would bring his laptop, cellphone, solar chargers and batteries. He knew it would be a long while before they could be repaired if they were ever damaged, but some utility was better than no utility, and out of curiosity he had previously downloaded a number of technical medical manuals from the time that he wanted to pursue a doctorate in pathology, as well as the children’s book “The way it works” which described the other areas of machines he wasn’t familiar with in an easily digestible format.
With any luck, and enough time, he might run into an engineer that might enjoy having access to that information. If there was other magic in this world he might be able to trade access to it for various repairs. Or, perhaps he would get around to finally tinkering himself, he wasn’t closing himself off to any options.
An SAS survival book with many different handy tips and tricks for wilderness survival. Various tools, a hammer, a machete, a first aid kit and a repurposed fishing box he filled with various medicines for most common ailments. A pocket survival kit including a ferrite rod and various other small tools. A flashlight that had a solar charger as well as a crank charger with charging ports.
He was surprised to see that it also included items that he was no longer certain as to where they were. He had owned a 50-pound draw weight compound bow some time ago that was left with a family member, as well as twenty barbed hunting arrows. It was given to him as a gift from his father and grandfather, though he never really was a fan of hunting. He stimmed, shaking his hand and striking his thumb against his middle and forefinger while he thought, before moving to the other hand stimulation exercises he did whenever he got excited or deep in thought.
Finally the water backpack, rucksack, treatment tabs, and a few old army uniforms that still fit would round out the space. Previously, he had been concerned that his job really didn’t assist him with maintaining a healthy weight, but if this was going where he anticipated it might, his extra bulk would serve him well until he could become better established.
Michael Judge ([Medic] Level 1; [Magus (Necromancy)] Level 1)

He exhaled, his finger hovering over the [CONFIRM] button. “Only worry about the things in your control. I guess now is a good a time as any to have my agoge.”
________________________________________
He pressed the button. His vision was filled, piece by piece with his new location, though he didn’t feel himself moving. As the last piece fell into place, he could hear, and feel, the wind over the grass of the hilly plains. It was evening, and he measured the daylight remaining using his hand. He had a little over an hour and a half before sunset.
The whole area looked similar to the semi-arid environment of the hilly grasslands of western Kansas. If that was the case, he wondered to himself if this place was also a hellscape where the local flora and fauna rely on a steady stream of wildfires to maintain the ecosystem. The grass came up to his knees and his waste, which he didn’t particularly enjoy. The sturdy stems were always difficult to sleep on, from his experience with the army. Not to mention what could be hiding in the grass.
… Hiding in the grass? He willed his [Lifesight] to become active and his vision became frantically populated with green profiles. He shut his eyes, willing [Lifesight] to have a few parameters. He could see a status window behind his eyelids. It felt like mentally right-clicking a skill and opening the properties menu.
________________________________________
[Adjust] [Lifesight]
Toggle light green profile if living entity is ≥30 cm at ranges 1m-500m. Increase color saturation with higher vitality. If living entity is 1-30 cm, highlight profile at ≤1m.
Toggle light red profile if entity is undead. Increase color saturation with higher durability.
Toggle yellow profile for dead organic material belonging to the Animal Kingdom if material is ≥30 cm within a range of 1-500m. ________________________________________
He opened his eyes. This time he wasn’t as bombarded with information. He’d have to keep this on a toggle, or with only one eye. Now he didn’t have to worry about bugs filling his vision with a sea of green. He did however, notice a few red outlines hovering slowly over the ground spaced out here and there. He could also see yellow outlines buried in the ground here and there.
He toggled [Lifesight] off. It was useful to scan the area but he was still getting used to the information overload and he still had other more pressing issues to investigate.
Could he equip things directly from his status window? It took a few tries, but yes. He could will it, or he could open up an Equipment screen and mentally drag and drop an item where it should go. He equipped his uniform, boots, and his floppy red wide brimmed hat with a mushroom theme that came to a rearward facing conical tip. He also took out his sunscreen and drank a sip of water from his wearable water pouch.
What information is revealed by [Triage]? He tried it on himself while keeping his status sheet open. [Triage]: (Target: Michael Judge; Health: 100% ; Conditions: [None]; Injuries: None.) His Status Window still displayed the conditions of [Well-Fed] and [Well-Rested]. He took out a knife, rolled back his sleeve, and made a small cut on the top of his arm. A little blood flowed as he did. The [Triage] and Status Sheet both updated. [Triage]: (Target: Michael Judge; Health: 98% ; Conditions: [None]; Injuries: Cut {Posterior Arm, 5 cm.) He held his hand over his arm as a light sweat began to form on his forehead from the sun. An ocean blue glow spread from his palm, as he willed the wound to close up like a zipper. He felt a small drain on his magic, and confirmed that indeed, his magic had dropped by 5%. There was no indication that there had ever been a wound on his skin. He summoned a notepad and pen, noting the information, before willing it back into his inventory.
Next, he used [Hematology] on the blood for a Complete Blood Count. He felt a much stronger pull on his magic than with [Triage]. He confirmed that indeed, his magic had dipped to 50%. He made a note of it as well as what the CBC provided: WBC Count, RBC count, RBC morphology, WBC differential, platelet count and morphology.
He took out a small umbrella and started walking, occasionally flipping [Lifesight] on and off. He manifested [Black Bolt] as he walked, holding it in his right hand. His magic had dipped by 10%, but would recover the used 10% when he stopped manifesting it. Only by actually throwing it did the mana stay consumed. More and more interesting, He thought. After about 40 minutes of walking, he discovered a well-trodden path, with tell-tale wagon ruts and horse dung that was neither fresh nor completely dry. He couldn’t see any smoke on the horizon, so it was likely more than 20 miles to the next settlement. He picked a direction and started walking that way.
As the sun dipped below the horizon he was left with a question. Would he camp, or keep walking through the dark? It’s not like things could sneak up on him at night if they were coming from somewhere he could see.
He kept walking, following the road by twilight, and then moonlight. He paused, however, when he saw a moderately red outline hunched over on the road in front of him. It had to be just within 500m of him. Michael materialized his bow and an arrow, nocking it, and approaching quietly.
250 meters. 200. 150. Lips smacked, cartilage crunched, wet and sticky, as it murmured and growled with hunger. 125. 100. His boot clattered a rock.
The munching stopped. Glowing yellow eyes piercing the dark. It walked on all fours. All sixes? 75. 60. 50. It stood on its back legs, growing taller and taller as it stretched its back, sniffing the air. Rotting scales. Exposed bones. Viscera exposed with fresh meat oozing from its ruptured stomach. Elongated face like a monitor lizard. And as the breeze blew through the grass, Michael realized he had made a critical mistake.
He was upwind.
With a nasty series of clicks, it charged forward. 40. He was shaking, pulling back the bowstring. 15. He couldn’t get a clear shot, its gait was serpentine! 5!

2024.06.01 01:47 Secret-Tomatillo5044 Blood Clot pt 2

Blood Clot pt2
I'm out of the bathroom and am back in my car. I’ll pick up where I left off. If you haven't read the first part click here.
Feeling slightly more awake, I changed and disposed of all my used napkins after putting them in a trash bag. I had no idea what to do or think, especially since I had work the next day. Hafiz died to protect me from that demon and it did nothing. I drove into an abandoned parking lot and sobbed. My entire life was falling apart because of a single awful entity. My future now seemed impossible because of a grotesque monster who hated me for putting in effort to live. I couldn't believe what was happening and since my coping skills are admittedly pretty awful, I just distracted myself by finishing my notes. Eating the rest of my cashews and straining my eyes to read the page. I could have driven to the library but I had a limit on gas money.
I wasn't able to sleep for the rest of the night. The thought of seeing Tolc again plagued my mind every time my body started to rest. Every noise and visual kept me on edge. I prayed constantly, despite wishing I had a more proper environment to do so. That along with remembering the Quran’s words on perseverance kept me sane. When morning came I decided to bite the bullet and buy supplies. Stocking up on gauze and tissues. It was a hard call to make as the money I spent on the supplies was originally designated for food. Sure, not all of my food budget was spent on it but it was just enough to make me doubt my choice.
When I got back to campus I tried to act normal, but everyone could tell something was wrong. The dirty looks I got from classmates were exasperated as they stared at my wrapped hand. Their gaze was never one of sympathy, but disgust. I tried to ignore it but I couldn't help but overhear a girl mutter about how she thought I attacked someone. All the while I bit down on my lip to stifle a whine of pain. The craters in my hand were now inching closer to my knuckles. A palpable sting persisted each minute, bordering on insufferable once the layers of my skin grew flaky. I couldn't take the maddening sensation anymore and excused myself to use the restroom, unwrapping the bandage when I got inside.
“Come on,” I whispered through gritted teeth observing my trembling hand. It looked just as bad as it felt.
I grabbed some paper towels and patted my wound down. Finally allowing myself to wail in a mix of pain and relief. Making sure the water was cold, I ran my craters under the sink. I shivered from the temperature and recoiled as I rubbed soap over it. Muttering prayers to myself as the chill liquid slid through the cuts. After half a minute I dried it, laid down a layer of paper towels, and laid out my supplies, frantically cutting and applying the gauze. Rushing to pack my things since I still had a class to return to. As I swooped up my scissors, I heard a familiar voice.
“Woah what’s up with you?”
Instinctively I pointed the scissors in the direction of the voice. A choice I immediately regretted.
“Hey, don’t point that at me! What’s next you’ll run up with a bomb strapped to your chest.”
Chris, smiled, acting like his sad excuse for a joke was funny.
“I’m sorry, you spooked me. I just got done wrapping my hand and used these to cut the bandages.”
I nervously held up my wrapped hand as evidence and he furrowed his brow.
“Yeah, and I’m sure you got that cut from glass and not a blood sacrifice.”
His words completely perplexed me.
“Wait, what?”
“I know what you’re doing, I learned all about your people.”
I took a deep breath, dreading the conversation that was about to follow. Of course, the school’s resident racist conspiracy theorist walked in.
“Respectfully, whatever you think is going here isn't what’s happening. I did get it from glass. My hand split open when I was cleaning up a broken vase yesterday.“
I wanted to tell him that whatever hateful trash he was eating up was untrue, but if I even implied that he’d lose it.
“You’re just using my lie! Which I should expect because that book you worship is full of them!”
I sighed, putting my scissors away.
“I don't see it that way but you can say that if you want.”
I internally cringed at being civil with this man who smelled worse than the blood I just rinsed.
“Look, I’ve seen you around and haven’t said anything but I won’t let you bring your hellish beliefs to this campus like this!”
I averted my eyes and began to walk away.
“Boy, where are you going!” he yelled, pulling me back by my jacket.
Normally I wouldn’t give much attitude but by this point, I was too tired to keep being so docile. Respect is built into me but there’s still a limit.
“Back to class, to write a research paper you’d never read because it has facts.” I snarled, pushing past him and increasing speed.
“God, you’re delusional, you know that!” he angrily spoke without understanding the irony.
Luckily he didn't pursue me for the rest of the day, but the interaction stuck in my mind. Once my classes were done, I was feeling pretty exhausted. The deterioration in my hand had subsided but it was still there, and the lack of caffeine didn't help. When I got to my car I cracked open the second to last can of my emergency energy drinks. I had kept them in a lunch pale in the back pocket of my passenger seat for desperate times, this being one of them. I downed it before waking in, quickly fixing my hair as I entered.
I sat at my desk and checked to make sure the sewing machine was plugged in. Taking a deep breath while reminding myself to stay focused. The first few hours were a blur, I did what I needed to do but the moment I finished a piece it faded from my mind. The only thing I remember being the concerned comments from co-workers about my injury. Sometimes I even forgot what I was doing as I sewed it, needing to check my reference multiple times. Our store is open more than most custom embroidery shops, which is a blessing and a curse. It allows me to get more hours but at the same time, it makes my passion for what I‘m doing diminish. Which I know is what happens when a fun hobby turns into a job, but still. I was starting to get tired of stitching in logos.
The number of customers slowed, leaving me alone at my desk. Reflecting on not only that day but my life. Tolc’s words reverberated in my mind as I stared at my wrapped hand. All this work and I wasn't satisfied. I felt lucky to be alive and fully acknowledged what little privilege I did have, but I wasn't exactly happy. Things could be worse but it was easy to see the ways they could be a lot better. It took me a long time to accept it but in that moment I did. I wasn’t anywhere close to where I wanted to be.
”Maybe, he’s right.” I murmured to myself, struggling to keep my head up. I could feel that my body was moments away from a crash. I checked my phone, realizing that we were minutes from closing, and tugged on my hair to wake myself. I cleaned up my workspace, practically hobbling to my car. The cold hit me as soon as I stepped out. My lips quivered as I sat in the driver's seat. That in tandem with my tiredness made me struggle to hold myself together as I drove into a rest stop parking lot. I zipped up my sweatshirt, breathing into my hands, before turning on the heater.
“Wait,” I uttered, realizing that my blanket was in the trunk. Looking out my window I saw hail begin to fall from the sky.
“Of course,” I groaned, clicking my trunk open and running out. The frigid chunks felt like pebbles getting thrown down on me. I bit my teeth harder with each step, grabbing my blanket before running back in.
Curling up into a ball in my chair with a hefty sigh. I tried to stay up a little longer despite knowing I wouldn't be able to. After ten minutes I found myself slipping from consciousness. My eyelids dropped like the harsh hail from the freezing sky above me. Leaving me lying with the little warmth I had.
“Wow, you look like you haven't felt this shitty in a while, and that’s saying something.” that dreaded voice commented. I had the blanket over my eyes but I could tell he was smiling.
“Whoever told you ducking under the covers would save you from monsters lied.” he chuckled, pulling it off me. Yanking my bandaged hand up to his face.
“It's been a day and you already need gauze? Damn, I forgot how much my bite stings. I haven't done it in a while since I decided to spare your brother from it.”
“Let me guess I didn't get that treatment because in your opinion I got a chance to get better and he didn't?”
He nodded, grabbing my blanket and observing the embroidery on it.
“Aw, how cute, did your mom sew you this?” he mocked.
“Partly, every weekend she and I would work one patch together. Hate to break it to you but trying to make fun of me for having good childhood memories isn't that effective.”
He shrugged, tossing it over his shoulders like a cape.
“Maybe not, but I know it's making you miss those times.”
The chill from earlier had started to come back.
“Alright, just get to the point.” I snarled, curling back up.
He wrapped the blanket around his torso while responding.
“If you haven’t noticed already I’ve been going easy on you today. Just leaving your hand to fester.”
He slumped down sideways, resting his legs on my curled-up knees.
“I’m giving you this break hoping that it's allowing you to reflect on your current life and if it’s worth fighting for.”
I rolled my eyes.
“You seem to think I’m a lot weaker than I am. I’m not giving up after one day.”
He flashed his horrid grin again, red pupils shining the dark. The lights from the rest stop being the only thing preventing us from being swallowed in black.
“It’s funny, your kind always says the same thing right before the first crack in that armor forms.”
“My kind?” I sharpened my gaze.
“Yeah. Your kind. I told you last time, I go after a certain type of person, so I get a lot of the same responses. People like you are so predictable, putting up a fight saying that they’ll be able to beat a power like me.”
He snickered, strangely thick spit seeping between his teeth.
“The result is always one of two things. One, they kill themselves to escape the pain thinking that their death will somehow matter more than their life. Or two, I break them, assume their place, and make something better with the usable parts of their rubble.”
At that moment his smile appeared more sinister than it ever had before. His words were so viscerally wrong.
“So, with that being said, which route are you choosing?”
I slowly sat up, purposely moving my legs last.
“Neither.”
I swiftly shoved his legs off, almost making him fall over. His smile quickly faded as he was turned on his side. Moving out of the blanket wrap he threw it back at me.
“Alright, fine, you want to play with fire like that?” he yelled, yanking me by the back of my sweatshirt.
“You are sleeping in a car in 40-something-degree weather, working at a place that’s killing your passion, and SOMEHOW think that existence is worth picking a fight with a demon for!” he growled, letting go of my sweater and grasping my neck. I tried to pull his hands away but I couldn't make a dent in his grip.
“I’ve given you your chance to submit and pass on peacefully, just like I gave you a chance to be something and yet again you failed!”
I coughed, doing my best to breathe through my nose.
“So prepare yourself for the morning because now I’ll revel like crushing a burnt rodent like you!”
As oxygen failed to reach my brain, my eyes closed.
I woke up with a sprain in my neck with my blanket on the other chair. I got out of my car to stretch, the cold air wafting over me. My stomach grumbled as I remembered that I hadn't eaten the night before. I checked for snacks but I was out. I groaned and noticed that my throat was hoarse from earlier. I attempted to speak but could barely get a word out. It worried me but I decided not to focus on it. At this point, I knew I’d probably be late for my first class no matter what so I didn't rush myself.
I got a bag of dry cereal and started eating it with a plastic spoon on a bench outside. I knew I looked pathetic, but it was hard to care about it with how hungry I was. After a few minutes, I felt an ick in my throat and my ears started ringing. Immediately, I knew what it was. I rushed to my car to put away my food and grab my supplies. Walking back inside the rest stop and into a stall in the bathroom. My eyes stung and my ears throbbed, the feeling of fluid coming up from both palpable. I got on my knees and put sponges in my ears as I started to gag. I closed my eyes as they bled, gore leaking from the folds in my eyelids
My entire body shook as each hole in my face bled. My nose stung like it had been attacked by a bee hive and my mouth tasted like a lump of steel. I did my best to plug it up with tissues but it barely did anything. I flushed the toilet at least five times from all the bloodied tissues and tried to rinse my eyes under the sink. Luckily no one saw me bleeding, but it still added a layer of humiliation anytime someone came in and I had to act like I was okay. I know I probably should have reached out, but I honestly didn't expect anyone to help me.
It’s cynical, I know, but in my experience, most people see someone like me and decide to let me suffer alone. Besides, I already felt vulnerable enough, I didn't need someone else seeing me in that state. Anyway, it continued for about 20 minutes with short breaks between, and as I slumped against this filthy toilet feeling my life force gush out, I thought about how no one would likely ever know why it happened. They’d find the body of this brown man covered in his blood with no idea how he got there. Not like it would probably matter to them. I hate to admit it but Tolc was right in a way. People like me die all the time and no one cares to make a headline about it.
My reflection stared back at me in the mix of toilet water and blood. Everything looked slightly red and for a moment and I feared I’d lose my sight. Maybe my life isn’t that remarkable but if I died then I’d at least want to be known for my death with the full story included. So once I got my bearings, I started typing the first post. If I wasn’t going to make it I at least wanted someone to know even if they didn’t believe me. I got a lot of horrified looks as I walked out with my face barely rinsed, and a wave of shame clouded me. Each one of their eyes was a needle sewing into my self-consciousness, but I got through it. I changed my clothes, wanting to burn the jeans that I’d spent almost an hour in on that disgusting floor. I drove to the middle of nowhere to set up an inflatable pool I could fill water with, making sure I was far from where people could see me.
Even though it was just as embarrassing as any other time I had to do it, it felt like the best bath in my life. Sure the cost of the gas I had to use and the worry someone would see me raged in the back of my mind, but for once I was able to keep it at bay. I’ve been writing this in my car for the past hour and a half or so. I feel bad about missing classes but I just can't today. Honestly, I’m not even sure how I’ve been able to stay awake. That’s everything that’s happened so far, I'm as okay as I can be right now, but I’m even more hopeless than before.

2024.06.01 00:38 blachababy Blepharitis + too many feels; bleph advice & experience welcome!

I’m new to being diagnosed with blepharitis.
I’m currently being treated with antibiotic eye drops and erythromycin ointment (after a full year of “use heat and eye lubricating drops” and dismissive vibes).
I resorted to a telehealth appointment just before the holiday weekend. I had already seen two eye doctors irl in the weeks before.
My eyelids felt like rug burns - this and redness and just pain in all eye parts - this is why I contacted telehealth.
It’s not getting better much. It varies, but my eyelids are droopy and swollen, my eye balls and my eyelids hurt. Lids are abraded still. It also feels almost like there’s a tiny lash flipped underneath my top eyelid. I dunno if that is eye pain or eyelid.
I’ve been struggling with less acute blepharitis (no raw skin etc.) for a year or more now, probably longer. I didn’t know it was a thing until I asked about my lashes growing in wonky directions about two years ago.
I have had seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and always use a dandruff shampoo with pyrithione zinc. The edge of my ear is currently red, mad, and a teeny tiny bit crusty/peeling. I also am now fighting back recurrent yeast (mostly thrush) that is now mostly-resistant to fluconazole.
I haven’t officially been diagnosed with rosacea, but I experience facial flushing that one doctor said is between rosacea and a malar rash. So, I guess CTD inflammation plus some of the things that trigger rosacea? So, could yeast be causing a flare up in my eyes?
Given that I have Sjogren’s - first off, are doctors mad, upon seeing me for this, because I haven’t done enough to fix my dry eyes on my own?
I’m quite confident that my eyes will never be moisturized anywhere close to “normal.” My immune system has effectively obliterated most of the factory that keeps eyes moist. Right?
So, I feel stuck and frustrated.
The last doctor I saw in person, I wound up just sitting there, crying, after she said it is only blepharitis and to do the heat four times a day and use more eye drops. Only after doing that for months could I come back to see her.
I tried to explain to her how I don’t look like myself anymore - my eyelids are low and swollen. She said I look perfectly fine. (She’s never met me before this - oh, maybe she meant I’m super hot! Cool never mind! 🙄)
I told her that I keep losing pieces of myself with everything.
She said “You haven’t lost anything.” Not nice, not mean. Clinically.
My eyelashes and brows lost color when I started Plaquenil, and with time/age, are now more sparse.
I have ongoing hair loss and my hairline has receded. (I have PCOS and Hashimoto’s also.)
The fat/volume left my face quickly when I was being diagnosed, and previously unearthed acne scars marred the surface of my face (my mom didn’t recognize me in pictures). Now my face crumples in around the scars when I smile or talk. When I move my face, basically, and it only gets worse with age.
But my lashes used to be the thing people most complimented me on, since I was a baby, for real. My lashes and my eyes. That is what I meant by losing pieces of myself. I have accepted a lot of facial and body changes. Even the lash changes so far, up to now. I still looked like “me” in the eyes. Mostly. With mascara, yes, I could still look like myself.
I’m used to changes but, aside from aging, I thought that new face changes had stopped. So it’s stupidly emotionally upsetting to me.
And so I’m at the eye doctor for help with the thing they told me I have. Since my last eye doctor visit (maybe was plaquenil checkup), over the past two months, I look weird in pictures. People can see the difference if they haven’t seen me since March. This is new.
Sometimes, especially the first time this all flared up, I wake up to a bit of peeled up skin on one eyelid. Sometimes I look like I have pink eye. I mostly cannot wear contacts.
I was also concerned something more was going on, since it seemed to appear one day and rapidly progress. The days I saw each of the two doctors, my eyes were not as red as they were on other days.
My lids drooping so dramatically is the biggest visual difference as far as not looking like myself, and I told the second doctor that I want to rule out MG (other doctors have brought it up and I am supposed to get labs done/antibody testing). Or infection. ‘cause I do not know how this works. I did not know blepharitis could cause what is currently going on with me.
I know this is a small issue compared to all the things people go through with AI and/or eye disease. I know people go blind. I am proactive about it because my mom has a heritable AI eye disease that causes vision loss. I get it. I’m not asking for, like, a free eye/lid lift (not yet, anyway).
I know many/most here have lost the way they used to look. Sometimes the changes are temporary, sometimes it’s for good. Even if it is superficial, it still causes pain.
Of course I would argue that it is not superficial - metaphorically but of course also literally (systemic stuffs even if it’s literally superficial since it’s top layer of tissues). It affects how we feel about ourselves and also how people treat us. I bet a younger and more attractive me without 15 diagnoses would have received far better care and attention from this doctor.
————————
So, um, what’s the deal with blepharitis?
Will my eyelids and lashes ever go back to how they were? Do you ever get better from it?
Are there treatments that are more aggressive and might fix it for a time? Are there specialists or no because it’s so common? Is it so common?
If anyone would like to share their experience with blepharitis and blepharitis-adjacent things, I would love to hear all about it!
—————
The doctor I cried at, the second in-person doctor I saw, earlier in the visit, after I mentioned myasthenia gravis concern, asked me what I do for work. Like, as a response to my - I think I told her I tried the ice pack test on my lids and they did go up. “What do you do for a living?”
Inappropriate, at the very least.
I was sad to give my answer, as I usually am, but also a bit happy because I knew I did not have whatever ammunition she was looking for. “Nothing. I do nothing.”
Usually it feels awful, always having to say I am/do nothing. But yeah, it stopped that - line of questioning? She wasn’t asking to be personable.
She took a beat, then asked me, like an accusation, like we’re in a courtroom drama, how I knew about the ice pack test. It was like a gotcha, and she even smiled when I paused, realizing her… I guess entrapment? This lady. Oof, Me, not wanting to say those magic “crazy person” words but knowing I had to answer - “the internet.” You know. Places like right here.
(Oh also I avoid as much as possible using the word “crazy,” but I didn’t know what to use there other than that, because it is so stigmatized and I sure felt it in that moment. So, sorry!)
It always hurts worse, in my experience, to be looked down on and dismissed or degraded by a female doctor, particularly when I am vulnerable, have been open and made myself vulnerable. I think especially when dealing with how I look.
It’s sexist of me to expect something different from a female doctor vs a male doctor. Maybe I’m more prepared to expecting it from a male doctor. Or maybe I don’t share as much. So, it’s my mistake. She’s not my friend.
I wound up getting more help via that random telehealth appointment. I did have to stop the telehealth doctor from factoring in my long list of weird problems and wanting to stop the session and tell me to see a specialist. I told her they did not help me. That all the things, that I don’t care because it is all fine and taken care of by other doctors. I just needed help for blepharitis. This was a new way that I may approach visits in the future.
I mean, I saw two doctors in three weeks. I over-talked, and over-shared concerns, both related to eyelids and eye redness, but also all of my other eye stuff. I guess that is not the best way.
Still, they are so dismissive with blepharitis. When it turns bad, it is kind of a medium-sized eye problem. The info pdf I got from Dr. telehealth had pics of even large-sized eye problems.
I mean obviously and of course also I am depressed. Maybe they are reacting to me over-reacting because depression and anxiety.
I might be less depressed if there was hope of stopping the downward trajectory of this eye issue. If blepharitis is so commonplace, then how do you fix it? The dry eye is never going to get better, afaik, so let’s just, how you say, sidebar the dry eye? Or table it in the context of blepharitis.
Sorry to vent. There are way more serious medical issues to have. But I still have weeping rug burns and I still have anger and hurt feelings.
Maybe the antibiotic made it worse. Is it related to my chronic yeast that is resistant to diflucan? Maybe I will take a diflucan because it still works a teeny tiny bit?
I don’t think I should be the one working on figuring this out on my own. I’m not a doctor - was that the point that eye doctor was making when asking what I do for work? It was either that though I had some kind of job that… is menial? I am a little bit tempted to call and tell on her. Ask why she asked me that.
I must be doing something wrong, at least in how I am communicating with these doctors. Maybe the “Just please fix this one thing because everything else is awesome but thanks for caring” - is that the best way?
I know this is a baby post so I hope the “vent” flair makes that okay! But if you can set me straight in a kind way, please feel free!
I am already regretting posting but I think I should for others who might have also felt such things.
And also blepharitis help/tips - what it is and what… when has it gone beyond blepharitis? Is that a thing?

2024.06.01 00:14 onwardtowaffles Random burning sensation in my eyes

33 AMAB, on gabapentin and baclofen to control seizure-like episodes of unknown etiology. Also metoprolol and losartan to control blood pressure. Extensive (maternal) family history of lymphoma in the 30s.
My "seizures" frequently come with altered perception issues (nearly always phantosmia, sometimes blurred vision or altered color vision, inexplicable tastes, etc.)
But this is new. For about 48 hours, I couldn't stomach Amy kind of fluid. It all felt like there was a giant wad of slime in the water; even small sips made me feel like I was choking on Jell-O or something.
Anyway, I got over that, and after my first few bites of food started feeling a burning sensation in my throat, which quickly spread to my nose and eyeballs. Not my eyelids or the surface of my eye - it genuinely felt like someone had lit lines of fire in my eyeball from within.
Now, my suspicion is that both of these events are connected to my seizure-like episodes, but no one's ever been able to give me a straight answer on where they're coming from, much less a treatment plan (been dealing with this off and on - mostly on - for nearly a year now).
Medium-term stay in the EMU showed no epileptiform brain activity, so not sure how to proceed from here.
Has anyone seen or dealt with symptoms like these before? And what was the diagnosis?

2024.05.31 23:12 Correct_Command_7593 Vaginal cultures are negative but symptoms persisting

I have vaginismus and recently had sex which I tore from and developed a yeast infection. 3 weeks later, I test positive for yeast again (not sure if it was the same YI or a second). After treatment ends, I develop extreme burning/ irritation, itching, my labia is swollen and red, and there is thick clumpy discharge that coats the vaginal walls, and some odor. Yet, I have tested negative for bv, candidas species & glabrata, trich, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. I’m waiting on the results for ureaplasma. I may ask for a biopsy to rule out LS, LP, and derm issues. Has anyone had experience with his and how did you find relief? I feel like the tests are gaslighting me because clearly something is wrong but there is nothing being flagged 😩 trying to be positive but idk. Any recommendations and suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Especially tell your healthcare provider if you are taking oral, topical, or inhaled corticosteroid medicines; have asthma and use an asthma medicine; or have atopic dermatitis, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis, eosinophilic esophagitis, or prurigo nodularis and also have asthma. Do not change or stop your corticosteroid medicine or other asthma medicine without talking to your healthcare provider. This may cause other symptoms that were controlled by the corticosteroid medicine or other asthma medicine to come back. DUPIXENT can cause serious side effects, including: • Allergic reactions, DUPIXENT can cause allergic reactions that can sometimes be severe. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any new or worsening eye problems, including eye pain or changes in vision, such as blurred vision. Your healthcare provider may send you to an ophthalmologist for an exam if needed. • Inflammation of your blood vessels. Rarely, this can happen in people with asthma who receive DUPIXENT. This may happen in people who also take a steroid medicine by mouth that is being stopped or the dose is being lowered. It is not known whether this is caused by DUPIXENT. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you have: rash, chest pain, worsening shortness of breath, a feeling of pins and needles or numbness of your arms or legs, or persistent fever. • Joint aches and pain. Some people who use DUPIXENT have had trouble walking or moving due to their joint symptoms, and in some cases needed to be hospitalized. Tell your healthcare provider about any new or worsening joint symptoms. Your healthcare provider may stop DUPIXENT if you develop joint symptoms. The most common side effects include: • Eczema: injection site reactions, eye and eyelid inflammation, including redness, swelling, and itching, sometimes with blurred vision, dry eye, cold sores in your mouth or on your lips, and high count of a certain white blood cell (eosinophilia). • Asthma: injection site reactions, high count of a certain white blood cell (eosinophilia), pain in the throat (oropharyngeal pain), and parasitic (helminth) infections. • Chronic rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyposis: injection site reactions, eye and eyelid inflammation, including redness, swelling, and itching, sometimes with blurred vision, high count of a certain white blood cell (eosinophilia), gastritis, joint pain (arthralgia), trouble sleeping (insomnia), and toothache. • Eosinophilic Esophagitis: injection site reactions, upper respiratory tract infections, cold sores in your mouth or on your lips, and joint pain (arthralgia). • Prurigo Nodularis: eye and eyelid inflammation, including redness, swelling, and itching, sometimes with blurred vision, herpes virus infections, common cold symptoms (nasopharyngitis), dizziness, muscle pain, and diarrhea. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. These are not all the possible side effects of DUPIXENT. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch, or call 1-800-FDA-1088. Use DUPIXENT exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. It’s an injection given under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Your healthcare provider will decide if you or your caregiver can inject DUPIXENT. Do not try to prepare and inject DUPIXENT until you or your caregiver have been trained by your healthcare provider. I dunked my eyes open in warm water with table salt
What is wrong with my right eye?
I am a 25 year old female. I am 5’7 and weigh 142 lbs. A year ago, I had a stye and sought home remedies. Came across a suggestion to use saltwater, which backfired terribly. Ended up dunking my eyes in warm water with table salt for about 20 seconds a few times throughout the day for 2-3 days, causing more harm. Visited an ophthalmologist for treatment, but since then, my lower eyelid has stayed puffy. Another visit to a different ophthalmologist suggested it might be an allergic reaction or due to sleeping on that side, though I doubt it. Scheduled to see an ophthalmologist/oculoplastic surgeon in 2 weeks, but I'm stressing over potential permanent damage. The eyelid feels different, slightly harder. Wondering if it could be posterior blepharitis. The only symptom I have is that the eyelid is always swollen. I don’t have any crustiness, discharge, itchiness… etc. Any insights appreciated!

The Saddle is saved!
Updates on 70s leather saddle. Took it for a first ride. I didn’t quite decide if I like it or not, but after a wash with saddle soap, 2 coats of leather treatment oil and 3 coats of wax-conditioner (for horse saddles, lol, found a fairly cheap locally manufactured one that is similar to Proofide from Brooks), a quick wirebrush and self-etching spray paint job and new Chicago screws with blue threadlocker, I think, it’s ready to be ridden on.
Bike is not native to the saddle origin one, that’s still on my TODO list, but it’s the exact same model.
Thoughts are welcome.

Affordable Singapore Laser Hair Removal
https://preview.redd.it/ck87qiymtr3d1.jpg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14e8cfd7d349b4ce413e71085b449a7ec5648ee8
Introduction
In my decade-long career in the aesthetics industry, one question I frequently encounter is about affordable laser hair removal treatments in Singapore. Many of my clients, especially those in their 20s and 30s, express interest in this popular procedure but are concerned about the costs involved.
From my experience at Wellaholic and interactions with industry experts, I understand the desire for smooth, hair-free skin without breaking the bank.
In the rest of this article, I will provide more details on finding affordable laser hair removal options in Singapore, including factors to consider and tips to help you make an informed decision.
Comparing Clinic Prices for Small Areas
Here is a comparison of laser hair removal prices for small areas like the upper lip and underarms at various clinics in Singapore:
At Wellaholic, laser hair removal prices start from as low as $25 per session for small areas like the upper lip or underarms. Kosme Aesthetics charges SGD 250 per session of laser hair removal for areas including the underarms and lips.
The Aesthetics Centre notes that smaller areas may be on the lower end of the typical price range of SGD 600 to SGD 1200 per session. Other clinics like Edwin Lim Medical Aesthetic Clinic and Smuvve Aesthetics also offer treatments for small areas, with prices varying based on the specific area and technology used.
Overall, prices for laser hair removal on small areas like the upper lip and underarms in Singapore range from around $25 to $250 or more per session, with the exact cost depending on the clinic’s pricing model, reputation, and the laser technology employed. Comparing prices and reading reviews can help find an affordable provider that delivers safe and effective results.
Seasonal Promotions and Discounts
Many laser hair removal clinics offer seasonal promotions and discounts to attract customers during specific times of the year. Summer specials are common, as people often want to be hair-free for swimsuit season. Clinics may also tie discounts to specific events like Valentine’s Day.
To stay updated on the latest deals, it’s recommended to follow clinics on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, sign up for their email newsletters, and check deal sites such as Fave. These promotions can often save you 50% or more on the cost of laser hair removal packages.
Some examples of seasonal promotions include LaserAway’s offer of 70% off a package of 8-10 small area treatments from April 30 to June 5, 2024 and iLuvo Beauty‘s limited-duration Spring Special Promotional Discount of 10% off all laser treatments. However, it’s important to read the fine print on any deals and ensure you’re receiving treatment from a reputable clinic with experienced technicians, even if it means paying a bit more.
Affordable Packages for Full Body Hair Removal
Full body laser hair removal packages offer a cost-effective solution for those seeking comprehensive hair reduction. Simplicity Laser‘s One-Year Full-Body Package includes 8 treatments on all treatable areas, allowing customers to address multiple body parts for one discounted price. This package deal can save clients up to $1,435 compared to purchasing individual area treatments separately.
Wellaholic in Singapore provides an SHR Unlimited Prestige plan for $299 per session, which covers unlimited full body SHR laser hair removal. The price drops to as low as $239 per session when purchasing a 12-session package. This all-inclusive package utilizes advanced Super Hair Removal technology for effective, painless treatments suitable for all skin types without hidden costs.
On average, full body laser hair removal packages range from $2,500 to $6,000, with the exact cost depending on factors such as the number of sessions, treatment areas, hair thickness and colour, laser technology used, and session length. While the upfront investment may seem significant, these packages can provide long-term savings compared to other hair removal methods and the cumulative cost of treating individual areas separately.
When budgeting for full body laser hair removal, it’s essential to consider the full treatment scope, any additional fees for consultations or aftercare products, and the potential need for touch-up sessions.[3] Researching and comparing clinic offerings, reading reviews, and understanding what is included in the quoted price can help ensure a smart financial decision while achieving the desired smooth, hair-free results.
Conclusion: Our Personal Observations
In our personal experience with customers at Wellaholic, we have observed a few interesting points regarding laser hair removal treatments.
Firstly, many of our younger clients in their 20s and early 30s are increasingly interested in laser hair removal, not just for traditional areas like the underarms and bikini line, but also for other parts of the body like the arms, legs, and even the face. This trend highlights the growing acceptance and popularity of hair removal procedures among the younger generation.
Secondly, we have noticed that a significant number of our clients prioritize affordability and value for money when considering laser hair removal treatments. They are willing to invest in long-term solutions but are also mindful of their budgets. This has led us to offer cost-effective package deals and promotions to cater to their needs.
Lastly, we have observed that many of our clients appreciate the convenience and efficiency of our laser hair removal services. They value the time-saving aspect of not having to shave or wax regularly, as well as the long-lasting results that laser hair removal provides. This has reinforced our commitment to providing a seamless and comfortable experience for our clients.
Overall, our firsthand experience with customers at Wellaholic has given us valuable insights into their preferences, concerns, and expectations regarding laser hair removal treatments. This knowledge allows us to continuously improve our services and offerings to better meet the evolving needs of our diverse clientele.

2024.05.31 13:14 deliriouslydevious Finally Finished!

Finally Finished!
I spent weeks reading through this sub before starting treatment so I figured I’d share my experience for all those considering it. It took 18 months, 69 (heh) trays, and 4 rounds of IPR but I’m finally done! My front 2 teeth aren’t perfect due to uneven wear from being crooked for 40 years, but they look 100% better. I could get bonding (but it often pops off front teeth) or veneers (irreversible and grinds off all your enamel), but I’ve decided to embrace the imperfection and keep my healthy teeth.
The first few weeks are the worst with the painful cuts from the attachments and trays, but after your mouth adjusts it gets better! If you are considering getting Invisalign…DO IT!
Here’s my list of things I actually use consistently: *PUL tool *Flossers-shit is always getting stuck in the new spaces between your teeth *Chewies *Polident/Efferdent - I use one every morning in my dental pod to disinfect and/or if I drink coffee/soda with them in. *Metal nail file to file off all the sharp plastic edges that seem to slice right through your gums/lips. *Extra soft toothbrush *Travel kit with toothbrush, paste, aligner case, flossers. I also use the Crest aligner wipes-they are awesome if you can’t get to the bathroom to rinse off your retainers.
Optional Awesome Things that I use daily: *Zima Dental Pod-although I don’t know that it’s better than any other ultrasonic cleaner. *Water flosser *Sonicare toothbrush with sensitive/extra soft bristles.
First Few Weeks Lifesavers: *Ortho dots-I only used these with my first 2 sets of aligners while my mouth adjusted. They work waaaaay better than the wax. *Oral B mouth sore rinse-helps relive pain and heal the tiny cuts you’ll get the first few weeks from the trays/attachments.

2024.05.31 04:39 Lucky_Ad_3564 Possible Sjogren's - undiagnosed and my experience

Hi Everyone, just needed to put this out there and see if anyone else has had a similar experience to what I have. I'm M, 31
When I was about 22, I had a life changing experience a few days after attending a music festival (no drugs were involved).
I woke up with severe "conjunctivitis" symptoms in one eye, and from one day to the next, the infection began to affect my other eye as well. These symptoms appeared in the sense of severe swelling of the eye-lids, to the point where my eyes were almost swollen shut. Went to my primary care and was diagnosed with bi-lateral pink eye, no biggie, it'll pass in a few days.
Once the swelling in my eyes began to go down some, my parotid glands would swell up anytime I would eat/think about food, and would cause such intense pain that it would cause me to roll around in my bed and almost bring me to tears. The swelling got so bad that I would go from having a normal looking head to looking like a coconut with eyes and a mouth. The swelling eventually got so bad I was admitted to the hospital and spent 4 days there being poked and prodded by just about every type of doctor (infectious disease, ent, ophthalmologist, etc). I was even tested for HIV
Every test was negative, and the only thing that would reduce my symptoms was IV steroids and oral prednisone, which they eventually pumped me full of and sent me home since I was "cured". All this time, however, I had lower than normal tear and saliva production, which I hadn't had the week prior.
Fast forward a few years, while my parotid gland swelling symptoms have subsided (thank god) I am still suffering from intense dry-eye which has impacted my active life (I enjoy playing rec softball, but am at the point where my vision is only decent for a few hours after putting my contact lenses on) and my dry mouth is impacting my oral health to the point that if I eat unhealthy / drink for a few days consistently, I get tooth pain on my back molars.
I've had some financial priorities with my wife being in school and unable to work for the last few years, so have delayed probably some important treatment, but I'm getting to a point now where I need to attack this instead of letting it get the best of me (it may already has).
Just curious if anyone out there has had a similar experience to mine, and looking for any advice anyone has. Again, I'm not sure if this is Sjogren's, but it's the only diagnosis out there that I've come across that makes sense. Any help is greatly appreciated, and I'm happy to provide any additional details / evidence needed to help. Thank you in advance!

2024.05.31 03:39 Peach-Hour Rash in creases of panty line and armpits

F31, healthy, daily vitamins
I developed this itchy rash right on my panty line and I'm not sure what it is. I've had a similar rash in my armpits for 5 months, but assumed it was from sweating too much. And/or friction. The armpit rash is itchy all the time, sweating doesn't irritate it extra. But deodorant's do.
History: HPV positive (years ago unsure about now), no STD or pregnancy
Lifestyle: I workout everyday, and thought it this was sweating and friction at first. But it's getting worse even after wearing loose shorts and no underwear. I use sensitive skin products, and have no change in my healthcare or products. I did get a brazillan wax two months ago but don't have any ingrown hairs or and rash symptom following the treatment.
Both rashes are raised and bleeds if I itch it. https://ibb.co/r5RhYrh https://ibb.co/sPnBhhs

2024.05.31 00:19 Substantial_Lunch786 Tender lymph node

I am 9 years in remission from stage 2b Hodgkin's Lymphoma. About two weeks ago I noticed the lymphnodes under my right jawline and super tender. Doesn't seem swollen and I haven't experienced any illness symptoms. I'm not having any classic lymphoma symptoms besides fatigue (however I do have a 8 month old). Also have noticed that it aches more after drinking alcohol or caffeine. Has anyone dealt with a relapse this long after initial treatment or had tender lymph nodes like this? or any advice at all?

2024.05.30 22:35 katarinafinch Caring for Chronically Ill Dog...

Hi all,
This isn't a specific "is it time to put my dog down?" post - I'm familiar with the quality of life scale and based on that, my dog wouldn't be there yet, but it's only because I am running myself to the ground financially, physically and emotionally to manage her health. I don't think I can sustain at this level for the long term, though (my own mental health is beginning to suffer), so I do want to know whether it's warranted to raise that and begin to have these discussion(s) with her vet team. I'm also curious as to whether you encounter pet owners who do choose to put their pets down for medical complications such as these, or if rehoming ever occurs (and is successful). I feel like rehoming a dog like this and ensuring her medical needs be met would be so very difficult when her vet costs routinely exceed 10k per year between meds, food, routine blood work/testing and diagnostics for issues that crop up.
For background.... Species: Dog
My dog has had one issue or another since basically I brought her home at 8 weeks and we've been working with an internal medicine specialist since she was about a year old. It started with GI issues - we got that under control and then the chronic respiratory issues cropped up in the year or so after. Now we're dealing with weird incontinence issues that come and go and now chronic vaginal discharge. She is on 6 medications, probiotics, psyllium fiber, Rx diet and is quite often on antibiotics for one issue or another. She also gets nebulizer treatments 2x a day to help keep her rhinitis in check. We maintain quite the daily schedule of meds-administered-before food, meds-given-with-food, probiotics-given-after-antibiotics, nebulizing/cleaning the nebulizer, administering an inhaler, etc. that requires a fair bit of effort to maintain day-to-day.
I'm exhausted and it feels like I'm loosing the battle when there's always something else coming. Her internist doesn't want to move to chemo drugs for immunomodulation unless she's backed into a corner because of how complicated my dog is (and to be honest, I'm a bit leery of them myself). We've been on Ursodiol for several years now and even despite that, she has worsening sludge that looks to be forming a mucocele. From what I've seen, surgery is more or less always recommended but complications tend to be high (worse if done as an emergency vs preventative measure).
I keep hearing that "she's young" and "reasonably well managed" but I'm beginning to lose my mind and I don't think I can keep up with an ever growing list of problems. I can get short breaks (few hours) for myself here and there (and I take advantage of that), but I never get more than that because it's so hard to find someone who could stick to her care plan or understand what a setback could. I'm also isolated from friends (and some family) because they do not understand what we've gone through. I've foregone career opportunities since it would drastically cut into the time in a day I have to take care of all her needs.
I feel guilty over the thought of putting her down because I can no longer care for her - but our pet-owner bond is already suffering from me being stressed out and frustrated - and I worry that surrendering or rehoming her would result in worse health/medical outcomes for her. To that end, I don't know if euthanasia would be "kinder". I'm afraid to ask or bring it up to her vets, though, as it seems almost taboo given how she is presently.

2024.05.30 22:29 bumpcar Would Nando have survived if rescue had come quickly?

I was thinking about this while reading about the aftermath of the crash again and about how nature "treated" Nando.
So as we know, Nando catapulted from his seat on impact, hit his head, fractured his skull in several places and his brain was swollen. He was in a coma for almost 3 days but then he woke up and healed without any long-term consequences.
It is widely believed (by doctors too) that his survival was in large part down to the fact that he was left first outside, and then in the coldest part of the plane for the first hours (they didn't think he had a chance to survive), moreover, during the first night, he was nudged by accident and crashed with his head against the ice, which nobody noticed, so he spent hours with his injured head resting on the ice. Being in the cold was allegedly the best treatment for Nando because the cold temperatures reduced the swelling and prevented permanent brain damage.
It was also important that he was hardly hydrated during the first few days (they put some snow into his mouth but it was not enough to keep him hydrated), and dehydration also helped his situation because it also reduced the swelling.
Of course, Roberto, Gustavo and the others didn't know about these effects of cold temperatures and dehydration, it was pure luck. But I have read in several articles that even doctors didn't know at that time that keeping the head cold was the best treatment for this type of injury, this was only discovered some 20 years later.
So, coming back to my original question, what would have happened if rescue teams had arrived quickly (let's say within hours) and they had taken Nando to hospital? Nando would have got hospital treatment, proper doctors and medicines in this case, but maybe it would have been worse for him because he wouldn't have received the "cold treatment" that he accidentally received on the mountain?
