2024.05.17 12:05 RoyalTravel9818 Incoming Rant: Clicks

I had such a shitty experience at Clicks Cape Quarter when trying to collect my medication. See my letter of complaint below:
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the service I received at your Clicks Cape Quarter regarding my chronic medication. I have always relied on receiving an SMS each month to notify me when my medication is ready for collection. This month, however, I did not receive any notification. Concerned, I visited the pharmacy, only to be informed that my scripts were exhausted.
Upon reviewing the dates of my last prescription on 11th April 2024, I found this information to be inaccurate. The prescriptions showed the following repeats remaining: - Medication A: 2 of 5 repeats - Medication B: 3 of 5 repeats - Medication C: 4 of 5 repeats
Given this, I was puzzled as to why I was told I had no repeats left.
In an effort to resolve this, I sent a repeat prescription written by my doctor on 9th January 2024 to the pharmacy. The pharmacist, however, refused to dispense my chronic medication, citing that it is a schedule 5 drug and must be sent directly from my doctor to the pharmacy. I was particularly distressed when the pharmacist raised their voice, insisting that previous dispensations were incorrect and that they could not give me my medication.
This interaction left me extremely upset, as I need my chronic medication to manage my health. Furthermore, the pharmacist informed me that there had been a change in protocols due to the dismissal of the last manager for not adhering to this schedule 5 drug policy. There had been no communication from the pharmacy about this change, which added to my frustration. The pharmacist asserted that it was not their obligation to inform customers of such changes, which I find highly unprofessional and negligent.
Additionally, during a visit in January when I was ill, I provided my 6-month repeat script for chronic medication. The pharmacist then told me I had prescriptions left and should return before June to utilize them. Contrarily, the pharmacist during my recent visit informed me that I could only receive two more months' worth of medication and the previous explanation was incorrect.
I am very disappointed by the inconsistent information and the lack of communication regarding changes in protocol. Being publicly reprimanded was not only unprofessional but also extremely distressing.
Given these issues, I kindly request the following: 1. A thorough investigation into the handling of my prescriptions and why there was a discrepancy regarding my repeat medication. 2. Clarification on the current protocols for schedule 5 drugs and why this information was not communicated to customers. 3. An apology from the pharmacist who raised their voice and a commitment to ensure such unprofessional behavior is not repeated. 4. A detailed explanation of how you plan to prevent such issues in the future to improve customer service.
I have had numerous issues with this branch before and am now reconsidering my options for where I get my medication. I hope to see prompt action taken regarding my complaint.
///
I did apologise to the pharmacist for raising my voice, but what a fucked up experience. Is this information about schedule 5 known? Was I in the wrong?

2024.05.17 11:00 CubeOfDestiny Question about hadwriting

Question about hadwriting
Over my years on the internet I've noticed some wierd stuff about hadwriting from americans, mostly i'm confused about cursive. Being from poland, noone cared about how you write as long as it's readable, and the very concept of cursive baffles me, like who cares whether you join up the letter you write or not, in my experience nobody gave a fuck about that. Literary i tried to find anything on polish speaking internet talking about what americans refer to as 'cursive' and only thing i found were ramblings about some anccient roman bullshit, copperplate script, italics and random articles probably just copying stuff from america. So what's up with all that? Also here is some of my hadwriting

2024.05.17 10:43 AutoModerator ChatGPT vs Gemini: Which AI Will Power iOS 18?

With the release of iOS 18 just around the corner, there's been a lot of speculation about whether Apple will finally integrate a powerful AI assistant into its mobile operating system. While Siri has been the default assistant for years, it's often criticized for its limited capabilities compared to competitors like Google Assistant and Alexa.
Recent reports suggest that Apple is in talks with both OpenAI and Google to bring either ChatGPT or Gemini to iOS 18. Both AI models have their own strengths and weaknesses, so it's hard to say which one would be a better fit for Apple's ecosystem.
ChatGPT is known for its ability to generate creative text formats, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc., and answer your questions in an informative way. It's also still under development, so it has the potential to learn and improve over time.
Gemini is Google's own AI model, and it's already been used to power some of Google's own products, like Search and Assistant. Gemini is known for its ability to provide factual and objective information, and it's also very good at understanding natural language.
So, which AI will Apple choose? It's possible that Apple could integrate both ChatGPT and Gemini into iOS 18, using each one for different tasks. For example, ChatGPT could be used for more creative tasks, while Gemini could be used for more factual tasks.
Ultimately, the decision of which AI to use is up to Apple. But one thing is for sure: the integration of a powerful AI assistant would be a major game-changer for iOS 18. It would make iPhones even more intelligent and versatile, and it would give Apple a major competitive edge against its rivals.
What do you think? Which AI do you think Apple should use for iOS 18?

2024.05.17 08:52 Hopeful-Mammoth-8991 Could SN be a good fit for my team?

Apologies if I am breaking any subreddit rules here. I'm trying to identify if SN could be a good fit for us. I'd also be open to anyone who wishes to DM about this topic or give me a demo of their SN setup. I know this subreddit will be biased but I wanted to hear from those who actually work with the product before I talk to any sales reps.
I am one of about a dozen developers on a team that's specialized in the Hyland OnBase WorkView case/document management platform. We've been using it for over a decade and have built a lot of successful client projects with it, but the drawbacks have reached a point where we are looking for a replacement. Ideally the new platform is something that our team of developers can learn and become proficient with relatively quickly. We'd also be open to hiring some people with SN experience, and/or bringing in a professional services group to get us on track.
A typical client project for our team is to build a case management system that a state government office of 25-50 case workers would use to enroll applicants in a program to receive some type of assistance. Case workers would perform a series of checklist and document reviews on the applicants' cases and move their case through a variety of steps from intake to closeout. Third party users may also log in to this system and perform their own reviews of cases. Users might be grouped into teams and can only see cases assigned to their team.
Not all our projects follow this model, it's just become a common one for us. I've only spent a couple hours reading about SN, skimming through some of the videos on their website, so I still need to do more research, but I wanted to lay out some info about our current platform below. I would love to hear feedback from the SN crowd here about how it compares relative to the pros/cons listed below, and anything in particular you love/hate about it, things you wish you knew about it before you started, etc.
The good:
The bad:

2024.05.17 05:47 GroggyOtter v2.0.15 has been released

2.0.15 - May 16, 2024 Download

v2.0.15 pretty much fixed a few errors introduced by v2.0.14.
And apparently I didn't have my update checker running b/c I missed that v2.0.14 was released almost 2 weeks ago. So here's that changelog:

2.0.14 - May 6, 2024

  • Fixed the error dialog to handle letter key shortcuts even when text is focused.
  • Fixed MonthCal W-n (number of month) width values to not be affected by DPI scaling.
  • Fixed Click to not return an integer.
  • Fixed detection of key::try { as an error.
  • Fixed :B0*O:XY::Z to produce XYZ rather than XZ (suppressing Y).
  • Fixed Send to leave any prior {modifier Down} in effect even if the key happens to be physically held down.
  • Improved the reliability of the script taking focus when a menu popup is shown.
  • Debugger improvements:
  • Fixed stdout/stderr packets sent during the processing of another command to not corrupt the pending response.
  • Fixed property_get -n .message and similar.
  • Fixed corrupted results from property_get when a property returns a temporary object with a string, such as x.y.z where y => {z:"a"}.
  • Fixed crashes when an asynchronous command is received during the processing of another command.
  • Fixed exceptions not being deleted after they are suppressed via property_set.
  • Fixed property_get -c 0 -d 0 to allow global variables, as already allowed by -d 1.
  • Fixed property_get paging enumerated items incorrectly.
  • Improved property_get to support property getters with one parameter (previously only the implicit __Item property supported this).
  • Improved property_get to support properties of primitive values. The value must still be contained by a variable or returned from a property.
  • Improved property_get to allow calling functions with <=1 parameter.
  • Improved property_get to support float keys/parameters.
  • Changed debugger to suppress exceptions during property evaluation.
  • Changed debugger to ignore errors thrown by __Enum (treat as no items).
  • Changed the pseudo-property to require __Enum. This prevents the object itself from being called as an enumerator.
  • Small code size optimizations in the debugger.

2024.05.17 02:57 nosajkeefe Theory on John Krasinski’s IF.

Just got out of the theatre and was pretty whelmed. The story was straight forward with a little twist. A kid struggles with having to grow up and then has a big realization. I don’t think I was expecting much but as the plot unfolded I was getting some strong feelings on where we were headed.
Now I haven’t followed this movie at all so I’m unsure if this is the case, but it sounds like maybe it was written as a conduit for John to talk about his own growth or maybe more of a love letter to his daughters. Either way I was thrown for a loop when the “reveal” happened because I was over analyzing the movie to my detriment.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Bear with me, I truly thought that it was to revealed that our main character Elizabeth was actually the one in the hospital. The comments of her always having such an active imagination fed the idea that the entire movie was in her mind while she lay in a bed. The thought that maybe she’s in a coma and has to tell these stories in her head is what gives her father hope. It keeps some semblance of brain activity that can be seen from the outside world. I’ll display before you the evidence that stood out to me that this was at the very least in a draft for writing the film:
-It is inferred that the father is dying of a broken heart. Sure broken heart syndrome is real, but I feel it’s much more appropriate for that to be the “disease” a child would place on their grieving parent.
-Ryan Reynolds character was merely an imaginary stand in for Dad since she couldn’t actually leave the hospital. She created a fun adult father figure, that even resembles Krasinski’s character to a degree, and goes on adventures and bonds with him.
-The stairwell in the apartment complex resembled life and death. As she ascended the stairs there was often a shot of a bright light at the top, representing heaven. When she reached the top was when she A. Forced herself to be as imaginative as possible to fight her way back. And B. Ran into the creepy witch figure who represents the scary part of facing death.
-Elizabeth realizes she is going to die so all of these imaginary friends, who were actually created by her, she feels sorry for. So as her last duty before she goes is to find a good home for all of her imaginary friends before she moves on. (More of a theory)
-When Elizabeth runs back upstairs to talk to Reynolds, she says “I don’t know if I can say goodbye again” and he responds “Then don’t” which in the context of the film makes it sound as if she has some sort of influence on whether her father dies or not. Which she obviously wouldn’t. It makes more sense to me if that was him encouraging her to keep fighting to survive her condition. However his response would later make sense after the reveal that he is her IF.
There were also a few more small interactions that clearly lead you to believe that some sequences are taking place all in her head but that also serves the actual story so the point is moot. This was really just a theory I had that continued to develop and my biggest question as it grew closer to the end is “How are they going to do the big reveal” Maybe she runs back into the hospital room and sees her Dad over her body or something? Idk. I felt like there could’ve been a sequence where we felt like everything was taken away and then something dramatic happens and then we get a big moment of catharsis. Which we kind of did when she was telling him the story and he wakes up, but not really. I just never felt like the stakes were high enough to reach that flood of emotions. I was much more touched in the scene where Blue reconnects with his creator.
Either way - it was a fine movie. Great date night option. Definitely a little moving, but almost in the wrong places imo. I’d love to know if there were other versions of the script before the final draft was complete. Shoutout to the Rushmore influence on ending the movie with Ooh La La, slow motion, and a hard cut to credits on beat.
P.S. I’m just now realizing as I right this that this is totally what obsession is about. I just rewatched Zodiac last night for the nth time and am understanding that one cannot apply evidence to a specific theory. I developed a theory and am forcing all of these nuggets to fit where I need them to. Similar to Graysmith and co building their case around Arthur Leigh Allen. The problem is if the fingerprints and handwriting don’t match then you have no case. And when they are disappointed that they cannot convict their guy it crushes them. Similar to how I feel I robbed myself of a bit of joy from this movie.

2024.05.17 01:14 SanderSo47 Part 2

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The first part was posted yesterday.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)¨

"Beyond his silence, there is a past. Beyond her dreams, there is a feeling. Beyond hope, there is a memory. Beyond their journey, there is a love."
His 25th film. Based on stories from the 2000 collection Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner by F.X. Toole, it stars Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. The film follows Margaret "Maggie" Fitzgerald, an underdog amateur boxer who is helped by an underappreciated boxing trainer to achieve her dream of becoming a professional.
Paul Haggis wrote the script on spec, and it took four years to sell it. The film was stuck in development hell for years before it was shot. Several studios rejected the project even when Eastwood signed on as actor and director. Even Warner Bros., Eastwood's longtime home base, would not agree to a $30 million budget. Eastwood persuaded Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg to put up half the budget (as well as handle foreign distribution), with Warner Bros. contributing the rest.
The film had an incredible run in limited release, breaking many records for Eastwood's career. It eventually earned a fantastic $216 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film ever. It received critical acclaim, and it was named as one of his greatest films. It won four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Swank), and Best Supporting Actor (for Freeman). Eastwood became one of the very few directors to make two films to win both Best Picture and Best Director.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006)

"A single shot can end the war."
His 26th film. Based on the book written by James Bradley and Ron Powers, it stars Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, John Benjamin Hickey, John Slattery, Paul Walker, Jamie Bell, Barry Pepper, Robert Patrick and Neal McDonough. The film follows the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima, the five Marines and one Navy corpsman who were involved in raising the flag on Iwo Jima, and the after effects of that event on their lives.
The film received positive reviews, but it bombed at the box office with just $65 million against its huge $90 million budget.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

"The completion of the Iwo Jima saga."
His 27th film. Based on Picture Letters from Commander in Chief by Tadamichi Kuribayashi, it stars Ken Watanabe, Kazunari Ninomiya, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Ryō Kase and Shidō Nakamura. It's a companion film to Flags of Our Fathers, and portrays the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers.
In the process of reading about the Japanese perspective of the war for Flags of Our Fathers, in particular General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, Eastwood decided to film a companion piece with this film, which was shot entirely in Japanese. The film was shot back-to-back, starting filming just one month after Flags of Our Fathers wrapped filming.
Despite being seen as the least accessible of both films, this film was much more successful at the box office than the previous film (including a colossal $42 million in Japan alone). It also received critical acclaim, particularly for how it handed the depiction of good and evil from both sides. It received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Changeling (2008)

"To find her son, she did what no one else dared."
His 28th film. It stars Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, and is based on real-life events, specifically the 1928 Wineville Chicken Coop murders in Mira Loma, California. It follows a woman united with a boy who she realizes is not her missing son. When she tries to demonstrate that to the police and city authorities, she is vilified as delusional, labeled as an unfit mother and confined to a psychiatric ward.
The film earned $113 million worldwide, barely breaking even at the box office. The film received mixed reviews, but Jolie received praise for her performance. She was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress.

Gran Torino (2008)

"Ever come across somebody you shouldn't have messed with?"
His 29th film. It stars Eastwood, and follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran alienated from his family and angry at the world, whose young neighbor, Thao Vang Lor, is pressured by his cousin into stealing Walt's prized Ford Torino for his initiation into a gang. Walt thwarts the theft and subsequently develops a relationship with the boy and his family.
The film received great reviews, as well as praise from the Hmong community. It ended up becoming a sleeper hit, and it earned $270 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film.

Invictus (2009)

"His people needed a leader. He gave them a champion."
His 30th film. It stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Following the aftermath of the apartheid, President Nelson Mandela decides to unite his people by supporting a rugby team in their bid to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
The film earned $122 million worldwide, barely breaking even. It received positive reviews, and Freeman and Damon received Oscar nominations for their performances.

Hereafter (2010)

"Touched by death. Changed by life."
His 31st film. It stars Matt Damon, Cécile de France, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lyndsey Marshal, Jay Mohr and Thierry Neuvic. An American with a special connection to the afterlife, a woman with a near-death experience and a young English boy, who lost his loved ones, cross paths in an effort to find closure in their lives.
Despite mixed reviews, it managed to earn $107 million, turning a small profit.

J. Edgar (2011)

"The most powerful man in the world."
His 32nd film. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, and Judi Dench, and follows the career of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, focusing on Hoover's life from the 1919 Palmer Raids onward.
The film received mixed reviews; while DiCaprio received praise, the technical aspects of the film were criticized. It earned $84 million, making it a box office success, but far below what DiCaprio usually makes at the box office.

Jersey Boys (2014)

"Everybody remembers it how they need to."
His 33rd film. Base on the 2004 jukebox musical, it stars John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken, and tells the story of the musical group The Four Seasons.
It received mixed reviews, with praise for the musical numbers but criticism for the narrative and runtime, and failed at the box office.

American Sniper (2014)

"The most lethal sniper in U.S. history."
His 34th film. It is based on the memoir by Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice, and stars Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. The film follows the life of Kyle, who became the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history with 255 kills from four tours in the Iraq War, 160 of which were officially confirmed by the Department of Defense. While Kyle was celebrated for his military successes, his tours of duty took a heavy toll on his personal and family life.
In 2012, Cooper and Warner Bros. bought the rights to the memoir. Cooper wanted Chris Pratt to star as Kyle, but WB told him they would only greenlight the film if he stars in it. After Kyle's murder in 2013, Steven Spielberg signed to direct. Spielberg had read Kyle's book, though he desired to have a more psychological conflict present in the screenplay so an "enemy sniper" character could serve as the insurgent sharpshooter who was trying to track down and kill Kyle. Spielberg's ideas contributed to the development of a lengthy screenplay approaching 160 pages. Due to Warner Bros.' budget constraints, Spielberg felt he could not bring his vision of the story to the screen. So Eastwood was brought in to direct.
The film attained a solid, but not extraordinary response from critics. It also attracted some controversy over its portrayal of both the Iraq War and Kyle himself.
The box office though?
To say that the film had a fantastic run would be selling it short.
It opened on Christmas Day in 4 theaters, and it earned a huge $633,456 ($158,364 PTA). But the following weekend, it actually increased despite playing at the same amount of theaters, adding $676,909. That translated to a $169,227 PTA, becoming the highest second weekend PTA in history for a live-action film. And on its third weekend, it earned $579,518 ($144,879 PTA), becoming the first film to have three weekends above $100,000 PTA. In the 22 days it played in just 4 theaters, it earned $3,424,778.
On its first wide weekend, the film shook the industry by opening with a colossal $89 million. That was almost as much as the other 2014 blockbusters, and given that the film didn't have 3D pricing, it's very likely it sold far more tickets than them. It broke the January opening weekend record by twice as much, and the second biggest for an R-rated title. With insane word of mouth ("A+" on CinemaScore), this film had the legs. In less than one week, it became Eastwood's highest grossing film domestically. On its second weekend, it dropped just 28% and made $64 million, which was the biggest second weekend for an R-rated film (a record it still maintains) and crossed $200 million domestically. And by March, the film overtook The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 ($334 million) as the highest grossing 2014 film in North America.
After an insane run in theaters, it closed with a gigantic $350 million domestically, which made it the second highest grossing R-rated film in North America. Overseas, it was also very strong, and it made a huge $547 million worldwide. It was easily Eastwood's highest grossing film, even adjusted for inflation. One of the greatest box office runs in recent memory.
The biggest surprise of the 2010s? Perhaps. Cause let's face it, when 2014, did any of you had this as the top film of the year? Or even in the Top 20? Please.

Sully (2016)

"The untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson."
His 35th film. Based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles, it stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Anna Gunn, Autumn Reeser, Holt McCallany, and Jamey Sheridan. The film follows Sullenberger's 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River, in which all 155 passengers and crew survived and the subsequent publicity and investigation.
The film received strong reviews, and earned over $240 million worldwide, becoming one of his highest grossing films.

The 15:17 to Paris (2018)

"The real heroes."
His 36th film. Based on the autobiography by Jeffrey E. Stern, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler, and Alek Skarlatos, it stars Stone, Sadler, and Skarlatos as themselves and follows the trio through life leading up to and including their stopping of the 2015 Thalys train attack.
Despite choosing Kyle Gallner, Jeremie Harris and Alexander Ludwig as the leads, Eastwood decided to cast the heroes to play themselves, which was met with confusion as they lacked acting experience. And that was reflected on the final film; it received negative reviews for its acting, and it bombed at the box office.

The Mule (2018)

"Nobody runs forever."
His 37th film. Based on the 2014 The New York Times article The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule by Sam Dolnick, it stars Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest, and Andy García. Due to financial issues, horticulturist Earl Stone becomes a courier for a drug cartel. Slowly, he grows closer to his estranged family, but his illegal activities threaten much more than his life.
It received good reviews (although some questioned its story and tone), and earned over $173 million worldwide.

The Verdict

Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Robert Zemeckis. One of the biggest falls from grace.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. It had to be a controversial filmmaker. Well, we'll later talk about... Zack Snyder. Oh, BoxOffice chose fuego 🔥
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
May 20-26 Robert Zemeckis Can we get old Zemeckis back?
May 27-June 2 Richard Donner An influential figure of the 70s and 80s.
June 3-9 Ang Lee What happened to Lee?
June 10-16 Zack Snyder RIP Inbox.
Who should be next after Snyder? That's up to you.

2024.05.16 23:21 KnottyKnottyHooker I am so angry!

Express Scripts filled my first rx for 2.5 mg. My Dr requested 90 days of 5 mg, which isn't available so it was denied. They also just denied a 90 days rx of 2.5 mg as well. I need to miss 2 weeks before they'll fill the 90 days at 2.5 mg. How does this make any sense?! It's working. Bad enough that I'm paying $120 for the 90 days (they charged me the same for 30 day rx) because they don't take the discount card they made me apply for after they stopped taking it. They don't want me healthy. 🤬🤬🤬
EDIT: I've just faxed an appeal of their denial. Here's my letter. Fingers crossed 🤞
My name is Sandra Sandmeyer and I received my first 30-day supply of Zepbound 2.5mg on May 1, 2024. This was a box of 4 injectable pens for a 28-day supply. My doctor then wanted to titrate me to the 5mg dose, however, with a nationwide shortage, this was denied. She then requested a 90-day supply of the 2.5mg so that I could continue to take this medication as it is intended. This request was denied. This is the decision I am respectfully appealing.
I have been overweight my entire adult life. I have tried exercise and dieting to no avail. I am continuing to participate in both the Express Script programs with Omada and Hinge Health. While I had progressed on Omada, I had a stroke in November 2022, making it difficult to return to the program as I originally had been doing. From the first injection of Zepbound there have been changes to my eating. It’s working! While I’m dealing with some slight side effects, I am extremely happy to find something that research has shown to improve the life of people with cardiovascular and weight issues. I don’t want to die young and would like to improve my life by losing weight. It has taken me quite some time to agree to medication and the decision was not made lightly.
I’m begging you to please reconsider my case. I have already been approved through 12/21/2024 and now that the meds have been requested, I am being denied the medication and told I need to miss 2 weeks before I can get more.

2024.05.16 19:51 MC_Freeddom Was Jurassic Park originally meant to include aliens?

Okay, i know how this might sound but the proof is in the pudding! So here it is!
In the first movie when Hammond meets Dr, Grant and Dr. Sattler their trailer is full of newspapers/headlines and articles about dinosaurs AND aliens/space!!! There's atleast 2 partially obscured headlines about dinosaurs on Mars, but the big one is front and center plain as day on their fridge stating in big bold letters "Space Aliens Stole My Face"
Now at first i aswell as anyone else ive found discussing this just brushed it off as a Spielberg thing potentially refrencing another of his movies, this wouldnt be the first time. But the alien stuff is specifically also about dinosaurs, this isnt a coincidence however this is where evidence from the movie ends.
But the real world is where things get interesting. So its no secret Spielberg and Crichton have been friends for decades and worked on the JP movies together (duh), but the interesting point here is the dates of the books and movies. The first book came out in 1990 and the first movie came out in 93, but the second book didnt come out until 95 followed by its cinematic counterpart 2 years later, that meams there was plenty of time for rewrites while Spielberg got more involved with the script and story.
So what i think happened is Crichton had this alien angle figured out from the start, its no secret the original concept for the second and third installments was about human-dino hybrids which they thankfully dropped in favor of a more grounded and coherant narrative focusing on the humanity of the story with the hybrid concept evolving its way into the JW series instead. But not before they already made the first movie dropping the alien hints, i mean this almost makes too much sense when we put all these pieces together.
So here is my recreation of the originally intended Jurassic Park lore.
So the aliens were behind it all, and the reason being is the same reason we see highlighted in Jurassic World, genetic power, aka the most powerfull weapon to ever exist.
So the aliens inflitrate Earth taking the classic body snatcher route perhaps even taking Hammond and almost certainly someone like Dr. Henry Wu. All this in the effort to weaponize not just humans and dinos, but life on Earth itself, our very biology.
As Vic Hoskins put it and im paraphrasing "they can't be hacked, they can't be tracked and they have 65 million years of instinct we can train" Almost sounds like something an alien would say eh?
Now there is litterally no end to the points and conclusions i could draw here but the more i think about it the more sense this makes!
But here is one angle i really like to imagine would have been touched on, that being the common gripe of extracting ancient DNA being impossible. It would be much more realistic if these aliens already had DNA from our ancient past using the amber angle as more of a cover.
Also human inteligence could have played a part, we know how dinos are quite uncontrollable, especially engineered ones like the Indominous Rex.
But humans on the other hand... Maybe this was meant to be more of an uplifting rather than an enslavement...
Anyways this has been a blast putting together and if anyone has anything to add or subtract please leave it! Also if anyone knows of any other posts or videos discussing this theory please point me in the direction, as i said the most ive found is people just dismissing Hammonds intro scene.
I just watched the movie but i couldnt wait to read the book before posting this so hopefully it gives me plenty of reasons to return and expand this!

2024.05.16 19:41 JawKneePlays How to Backup your Saves with Powershell and Scheduled Tasks

There was a thread earlier today about people quitting because of BS deaths and I, like some others, have a Powershell script to backup Saves for such a scenario. I put my script in a comment but thought maybe some people would like a full post on how this is achieved.
PS: Someone mentioned wanting to give me a Reddit award for my comment, but obviously awards are gone. So instead, maybe consider following me on Twitch, JawKneePlays. Thanks
I took this Backup Script from someone else and modified it, but I can't remember who the original author is to credit them.
Pre-Warning: Do this at your own risk. I WILL NOT take responsibility for any issues this causes nor will I fix individual issues. If there are questions on what the script is doing etc, then I'm happy to answer.
  1. Create the Powershell script file (We're using Powershell ISE because everyone will have it installed with Windows)
    1. Open Powershell ISE
    2. Copy the SCRIPT BLOCK below and paste this into the ISE (SCROLL DOWN THIS POST)
    3. Modify these variables to suit you
      1. $SourcePath = "C:\Users\$user\Zomboid\Saves"
      2. $BkupVolumeLabel = "Games"
      3. $RetentionDays = 2
    4. Save the file and name it whatever you want and where you want
      1. Mine is: "D:\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\Scripts\BACKUP_SCRIPTS\ProjectZomboid_Backup.ps1"
      2. NOT REQUIRED BUT: If you don't have a "*\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\" directory and want one, follow this to create a Powershell profile.
  2. Create the Scheduled Task
    1. Open Task Scheduler
    2. Right Click the "Task Scheduler Library" folder and Select "New Task"
      1. In the General tab, give the Task a Name
      2. In the Triggers tab, Select "New" and configure the Schedule how you see fit
      3. In the Actions tab, Select "New"
      4. Select "OK" and you're ready to run the task to test it works
  3. Restoring the Files
    1. This is a simple Delete the current folder and replace it with your backup folder
    2. If you're afraid of losing your data, I would recommend renaming the current folder from "saves" to "saves.old" and then copying your backup up folder. That way you can delete the backup if it's not what you want or it fails and you can go back to the previous state by renaming the folder back to "saves". It's just worth doing once or twice before you commit to using the backup files
  4. That should be everything covered. If anyone notices an issue with the write up, or has any suggestions for myself or others, chime in!
SCRIPT BLOCK (COPY EVERYTHING BELOW THIS LINE INTO YOUR ISE AND SAVE IT AS A ".PS1" FILE) <#
This script takes a backup copy of an entire folder and puts it on a dedicated backup drive.
It is recommended to use an external hard drive for this backup.
To correctly use this script, be sure that you format each backup drive with the $BkupVolumeLabel keyword in the Volume Label.
To run the script automatically:
Schedule a task to run program powershell.exe with the argument:
-executionpolicy Bypass -file "[insert path to script file here]"
Schedule to run as often as you would like to make a backup.
Change $user below to your PC user name (look at the directory if you don't know)

>

$SourcePath = "C:\Users\$user\Zomboid\Saves"
$BkupVolumeLabel = "Games"
$RetentionDays = 2

# I WILL TAKE IT FROM HERE!

$Date = Get-Date -Format "yyyy MMM dd hhmm tt"
$BackupDrives = (Get-Volume Where-Object {$_.FileSystemLabel -like "*$BkupVolumeLabel*"}).DriveLetter
ForEach ($Drive in $BackupDrives) {
$Letter = "$Drive" + ":\"
$Destination = "$Letter" + (Get-Item -Path $SourcePath).Parent.Name + "\" + (Get-Item -Path $SourcePath).Name
IF (-not (Test-Path -Path $Destination)) {
New-Item -Path $Destination -ItemType Directory
}
Copy-Item -Path $SourcePath -Destination "$Destination\$date" -Recurse
Get-ChildItem -Path $Destination Where-Object {$_.CreationTime -lt ((Get-Date).AddDays( - $RetentionDays))} Remove-Item -Force -Recurse
}

$Error > C:\users\public\desktop\BackupErrors.txt #Remove leading # if you need error information for failed backups.

2024.05.16 18:09 HeyLink99 TY Requiem!

I know the mod has more than 8 years, I've been playing Skyrim since the ps3, I played a lot on the ps4 and now I have the opportunity to play on the PC with mods. A beautiful challenge! For the first time in years of playing Skyrim, I didn't feel like a Norse God in the first mission, or a powerful wizard, or both! I was just another one. I can't do the main quests because im low level and for the reason of "how is an ordinary warrior going to defeat hundreds of undead?" what is the realism of this? It was a rainy day when I went to carry out the mission of defeating a group of bandits, and I defeated them with great difficulty, dying a few times. It was Elsi's group, when I read the letter she left, for the first time I felt Skyrim alive, not just a script, I spent about 10 minutes reflecting and regretting of having simply reap 12 souls without worrying who it was, just thinking about XP and gold. Thank you to the creators of Requiem and to this community that helped me a lot, not directly, but everything I had doubts about, I researched directly here.

2024.05.16 17:00 Odd-Bandicoot-3138 Easter Eggs aren’t THAT clever

I’ll preface by saying that I do enjoy Taylor’s music and found myself a little deeper into the fandom last year; since then I’ve made my observations and have been more neutral towards her, but do consider myself a fan.
That being said, my biggest criticism is this narrative about her being an ingenious mastermind with how she develops clues and easter eggs. Creating Easter eggs and puzzles is EASY when you’re writing the script. I find it similar to developing a word search. It’s much harder to solve a word search because you don’t now where letters may fall. But if you’re developing a word search, all you have to do is plop the clues in. Same goes for how she develops her puzzles and Easter eggs. The stage is already set for her, all she has to do is plop the clues in. She develops her OWN stories and her OWN narrative, so she can literally develop that puzzle however she wants. It’s so easy to develop clues when you know what your end goal is.
I’m sure she gets the majority of her clues from socials and her unhinged fans who develop far more complicated theories that she feeds into. Puzzling and Easter eggs are the LEAST impressive part of her career.

2024.05.16 14:25 Righteous_Allogenes Sweet Chariot

Here I need to pause and vent a moment, a little nagging thing, ever to persist if I do not get this complaint out, noted down and filed, if only for my own sake. But know this: I am, and not I, am the one who writes these scripts.
Look, I am aware, that from every perspective beyond my own, it should only become all the more obvious with inspection that I have a full blown God complex. I had even been told such, perhaps some months now ago. But from within my mind alone the idea cannot even be taken seriously, like when someone suggests that I think me their better... an absurdity, for we have been the same persons. But we surely do have a God complicated. The trouble is not that I think me better but that you see something or another unfamiliar and you judge yourself therefore lesser! Oh, go on and lay it upon me if you must, for I shall and I will bear a light and heavy burden.
Indeed I am aware, even that I am deluded, all muddied and obscured, I can see it clear. In fact many may well be quite surprised —or even disbelieve it outright —to know just what extent to which I am self-aware: vivid detail, hyper critical, macro, micro, flash fire in the mirror pan, turning fast, no blur, no lens flare. Shutter shudderingly quick: instantaneous. Within the instance, I am it.
And, if we should here grant a passing....
Selah
Vis a vis, c'est la vie, mon ami. (hold) pause+start, input code Konami
Let go that thought. Or do you not know?
You ought to be careful what it is you wish for.
Yes, as I speak, verily as I live and breathe,
God is, indeed, and I, I am He.
And just what by that do I mean? Because surely, I am not saying what you think I am saying... hmm?
God: inasmuch as what you likely mean by that word, capital and proper, if you are within the ballpark parking lot of Christianity, Islam, Manichaeism... or really just about any major world religion, actually. However, in all such cases, your presumptions put whoever you think I really am, in error.
There is a person, this person is not me. Here are words, formed of letters, which are unto death, as you (esp, who contend me) have surely read, yes? And these words they are written (for all intents and purposes) with instruments, manipulated by fingers, hands —like leaves to twigs, twigs to branches —limbs, of a body of a creature, to wit: a/an (hu)man.
Now of this body there is a head, and in this head, squishy bits: the greater part of which, all coalesced, likely perhaps, you may call it a brain. But in this brain there is a mind, and though often interchanged, these are in fact not to say, strictly the same. For the mind it is a battlefield... wait. Or was that love? Who can say? And are you not entertained? Ha!
Either way, this mind then it is as a hub, centrifugal it spins, as on an axle, an axis, or rather, axes (axis' plural, that is —not to be confused with that with which something such or another might be hewn... oh.. ah.. well, hm.. nevermind that then), many axes, yes, as like wheels within wheels, a gimbal: what I speak of, such it is. And a wheel indeed, for this hub has fit to it spokes, of which, one is that brain, and its body, its host.
That is the person, of whom I am speaking, connected to that brain, and through its hands and fingers I am speaking, so to speak. I am that person, and that person is not me. For that person alone can not contain the breadth of being, it is omnivalent. And what of these many others? And what even of you? Indeed it is True: as many as are formed unto the image of the son of man, these are I and I am them.
And, as I said of that hub, how it spins, —unlike the lilies of the field, and such like them, and, is more often wont to be without from the wind —upon axles many, verily, I, aye verily. And what is likely to be found at any wheel axle's other end? Amen another hub fit with many spokes to a rim. And between wheels there is... what is this? A differential, an apparatus of gears, bearing separate systems, even controverse, along, together, this watchtower. For wherever two are gathered in my name, there I am among them. That two —and a great many more, I asure you —may travel together, even disagreeing so often as they do.
And I am here I am swung low, coming for to carry you home.

let me lay the scene out for you
i am currently doing a 25 year old software course for my last year of highschool, my teacher insists on teaching us outdated concepts and i have only 3 days to finish this assessment we got last week (health issues and shit have stopped me from starting it and i cant get an extension) basically im asking this as a last ditch effort so i dont have the weight of this courses assessment on my shoulders when i have my art major work and legal studies assessment to worry about.
i have completed 2 aspects of the assessment (there are 3) and i do not have the mental capacity to even begin to think about this part of the assessment that is left. please, i am begging anyone who has read this far if you have nothing better to do, please for the love of all that be, write me the code for this part, i know this is a big ask since im sure most of you have lives to attend to, but to those who would like to help me in this trying time of need, please help a brother out.
i will be offering a hand written thank you letter and 1 tf2 key for anyone who completes this for me.
thank you to anyone considering, have a great day/night/solar cycle

2024.05.16 13:19 Appropriate-Tune-234 रोमनको ठाउँमा देवनागरी लिपीमा लेख्ने कि?

Why not use the Devanagari script instead of Romanized English while communicating Nepali words/sentences over the Internet?
I realize what I am suggesting is difficult to do. It is much simpler to type the familiar 26 English alphabets on a very user-friendly keyboard than to type 36 consonant letters, 12 vowels, plus 12 independent vowels (आकार / उकार ) on a not-so-familiar keyboard. Additionally, many of us find it difficult to accurately write Nepali words (ह्रस्व दीर्घ र हिज्जे मिलाएर ).
The concern is what will happen to our language in the near future if none of us can accurately write our own language. Even today, we see inaccurately written documents from officials, inaccurately written signboards above shops, and more. Soon, a day might come when only academics studying the Nepali language are able to write proper Nepali.
Now, everyone is free to choose and use the script that is most convenient for them. It may not be practical to switch the keyboard to Nepali/Devanagari every time while chatting or catching up with friends (if we wanted to, we may be able to).
This may not be "the solution" to my concern, but it can be "a solution." With this post, I just want to open a discourse on what you think of this problem. Does it even exist? If yes, is it worth discussing? Is there a way to resolve or mitigate it?

2024.05.16 11:22 Zvijer_EU How religion stops our brains

Following the scripts to the letter leads to dullness and pretty often even misunderstanding the script itself! Ironically, most of people I know who call themselves big believers didn't even read the Bible (actually almost all of them). The church uses similar methods of crowd control as many autocratic regimes; that's why they are often connected! I just did a video on this theme, maybe you want to check it out and leave your opinion! Get rid of your religion!
