10 Best Freestanding Tubs for 2023
No doubt that showers function as a reliable and refreshing way to get clean, but when it comes to real relaxation and soaking away stress, nothing beats a bathtub. To enhance the luxury and comfort even more, consider using a freestanding bathtub, which is the best among the major types of bathtubs.
It’s basically a stand-alone tub that doesn’t need to be positioned against the wall or in an alcove. This spacious model bathtub functions as a focal point that’s visually appealing and extremely comfortable to loll in.
Freestanding tubs are available in various styles, materials, and sizes, requiring that a selection is made out of these many options. We’ve streamlined the long list to the 10 best freestanding tubs. With this, informed decisions can be easily made.

Requirements for Best Freestanding Tubs

The best freestanding bathtubs typically require a reasonable amount of investment, so it’s important to consider the necessary determining factors before making a purchase. Key factors to keep in mind are stylish design, suitable material, multiple functions, and easy maintenance.
https://preview.redd.it/y454r1mdf32d1.png?width=554&format=png&auto=webp&s=498d81ab3a19c5e397ed7964c8ce3c98f4dfa207

Stylish Design

There are several styles and designs of freestanding bathtubs to select from, such as single-ended tubs, single-slipper tubs, double-ended tubs, double-slipper tubs, claw-foot tubs, and Japanese soaking tubs.
  • Single-ended tub: One end is sloped and rounded, which makes it great for reclining against. The other end is straight squared-off, making it great for drain and faucet installation.
  • Single-slipper tub: Similar to single-ended tubs, except that one end is elevated instead of sloped. The elevated end serves as a back support for people who prefer to sit in the tub.
  • Double-ended tub: Feature two sloped ends, making it comfortable for bathing on both sides. The walls are not elevated, allowing the user to lie back.
  • Double-slipper tub: Raised on both ends, this design is big enough to accommodate two users like couples facing each other. These bathtubs have a low point in the middle for the drain, while the faucet is placed on one side.
  • Claw-foot tub: This is a classic style that’s still somewhat common. It has 4 or more feet that are shaped like an animal’s paws. Instead of sitting on a pedestal base, they are designed to rest atop a ball. The downside of this style is that it’s very heavy and can damage the floor.
  • Japanese soaking tub: This freestanding tub is specifically constructed for small spaces. It has the shortest length, however, it is quite high. Users sit instead of reclining, allowing for full submerging into the water up to the shoulder.

Suitable Material

There are various materials used to produce the most comfortable bathtubs. They include solid surfaces, acrylic, cast iron, fiberglass, stone, copper, stainless steel, porcelain, wood, and composite. Each of them has different characteristics and requires different degrees of care and maintenance. Before making a decision on the best free-standing tub, compare the properties of these materials and choose the one that offers more benefits.
But generally, the best material for making a freestanding bathtub is a solid surface. Solid surface bathroom solutions stand out because of their seamless and smooth surface, excellent heat retention, good durability, and sustainability.

Multiple Functions

Another salient requirement is the list of functions the best free-standing tub can perform, as they can enhance the bathing experience. The tub should have a convenient water system for a steady flow, as well as built-in faucets, handheld showers, and thermostatic controls for precise temperature adjustment.
Some freestanding bathtubs may have electronic controls, which allow users to operate various functions with the touch of a button. Other possible features are air jets or water jets that can change the bathtub into a spa-like oasis, providing flexibility, relaxation, and muscle relief.

Easy Maintenance

The last but not the least essential requirement for choosing the most comfortable freestanding tub is easy maintenance. Selecting tubs made with quality materials like solid surfaces, acrylic, fiberglass, or stone can make cleaning and maintenance a walk in the park. This is because these materials are resistant to stains, scratches, and discoloration.
Choosing bathtubs with smooth and seamless surfaces simplifies maintenance. Some may also have antimicrobial surfaces that resist the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew, resulting in a more hygienic bathing environment.

A Versatile Material for Best Freestanding Tubs – Solid Surface

Are you looking for the most versatile material for freestanding tubs? Look no further than a solid surface. The material can be easily formed into any design, shape, color, and size.

Characteristics of Solid Surface Tubs

  • Seamless and Smooth Surface: Solid surface bathtubs and accessories have seamless and smooth surfaces that are devoid of visible joints. This enhances their aesthetic appeal and makes them very easy to clean and maintain.
  • Excellent Heat Retention: One of the notable features that best freestanding bathtubs should have is great resistance to heat. The solid surface has excellent heat resistance properties that allow the tub to maintain water temperature for longer periods. This improves the bathing experience by keeping the water warm throughout the bathing duration.
  • Good Durability: Another factor that is important in selecting the best free-standing tub is longevity and continuous performance. Solid surface is resistant to stains, spills, scratches, and cracks, making it a very durable option. It can withstand regular use without signs of wear and tear.
  • Sustainability: Solid surface bathtubs are made from a composition of natural minerals and resins, which makes them an eco-friendly option. Additionally, they can be repaired, refinished, and even recycled in order to minimize their impact on the environment.

Care and Maintenance of Solid Surface Tubs

To ensure the durability and high performance of solid surface bathtubs, proper care, and maintenance are crucial. To get started, regularly clean the tub using a mild, non-abrasive cleaner that’s compatible with solid surface materials.
Note: Don’t use harsh cleaning solutions, chemicals, or scouring pads because they can damage the surface.
While solid surface tubs are generally resistant to stains and spills, it is best to quickly clean any impurities to prevent them from becoming difficult to erase. Wipe away substances like hair dye that may come in contact with the tub’s surface while bathing. Also, it’s advisable to avoid excessive force or impact because these tubs are prone to damage from heavy objects or sharp tools.

A Lightweight Material for Comfortable Freestanding Tubs – Acrylic

Acrylic is the material commonly used for making the most comfortable freestanding tub with a lightweight. Since it’s not heavy, less effort is needed for a change of position.

Characteristics of Acrylic Tubs

  • Lightweight: The most notable feature of acrylic freestanding tubs is their lightweight nature, which makes them very easy to handle and install. This also gives room for more flexibility in terms of placement within the bathroom.
  • Heat Retention and Resistance to Cracks: Acrylic materials are good at ensuring that the bathwater stays warm for longer periods, allowing the user to have a more comfortable bathing experience. Acrylic tubs are also resistant to cracks, making them last longer.
  • Affordable: Acrylic materials are cheap, making the bathtubs a more cost-effective choice for people seeking the most comfortable freestanding tub without breaking the bank.

Care and Maintenance of Acrylic Tubs

To care for and maintain acrylic bathtubs, use a mild cleaner specifically made for acrylic surfaces. Don’t use strong solvents, abrasive cleaners, or chemicals, as they can result in damage or color fading. Rather, use gentle, non-abrasive cleaning products. Apply them using a soft cloth or sponge and gently wipe the tub’s surface to remove impurities.
Next, rinse the tub thoroughly using warm water to remove all cleaning residue. Then, dry the tub with a soft, neat cloth to avoid water spots or mineral buildup.

A Long-Lasting Material for Comfortable Freestanding Bathtubs – Cast Iron Tubs

While cast iron tubs are not very popular today because they are heavy and difficult to move, they are preferred by some people because of the guarantee to last long.

Characteristics of Cast Iron Tubs

  • Long-Lasting: Cast iron has the reputation of being the most durable material for the best freestanding bathtubs. Cast iron tubs have a solid construction that can withstand heavy use and resist wear and tear over time. With proper care, they can last for decades.
  • Weighty: Cast iron tubs are heavy, hence they are not very portable. However, their heaviness gives a substantial and luxurious feel. The weight also helps with heat retention, as the material absorbs and retains heat, keeping the bathwater warm for longer periods.
  • Quite Expensive: Cast iron tubs are more costly than other types of materials, and this is because of their craftsmanship and labor cost.

Care and Maintenance of Cast Iron Tubs

To clean cast iron tubs properly, use mild, non-abrasive cleaners that are compatible with cast iron. Avoid strong acids, bleach, ammonia, or other harsh chemicals, as they can damage the tub’s surface and strip off its protective coating, which will result in discoloration.
Promptly address any chip or scratch on the tub’s surface to prevent rust from forming. Also, apply touch-up enamel or sealants to protect the exposed areas.

A Durable Material for Freestanding Tubs – Fiberglass

Characteristics of Fiberglass Tubs

  • High Resistance to Stains and Discoloration: The non-porous nature of fiberglass makes the tubs less susceptible to absorbing and retaining stains, which makes cleaning and maintenance easier. Also, fiberglass free-standing bathtubs come with a protective gel coating that helps preserve their color and prevent discoloration.
  • Lightweight: Fiberglass is a lightweight material, making the bathtubs relatively easy to carry. This results in ease of installation and greater versatility in placement within the bathroom.
  • Lack of Heat Retention: Compared to some other materials like solid surface and cast iron, fiberglass best freestanding tubs have less heat retention. While this means that the water temperature may cool down faster, it is beneficial for individuals who prefer cooler baths or want the flexibility to switch water temperatures more easily.

Care and Maintenance of Fiberglass Tubs

It’s crucial to avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can spoil the bathtub’s surface and potentially cause scratches. Rather, use mild, non-abrasive cleaners that will effectively remove dirt and grime without damaging the bathtub.
Additionally, the tub should not be exposed to direct sunlight for a long period, as this can cause it to fade quickly. And if the tub is installed near a window, consider using curtains or blinds to reduce the sun effect.

  • Anti-microbial Properties: Copper naturally inhibits the growth of bacteria, germs, and other harmful microorganisms, making bathtubs a hygienic option for bathrooms. The material helps ensure a clean and healthy bathing condition.

Care and Maintenance of Copper Tubs

Copper tubs develop a tarnish over time, to restore their shine and luster, gently clean them with a copper polish or a mixture of lemon juice and salt. To prevent scratches or damage to the tubs’ surface, avoid placing sharp objects or heavy items on them.

Care and Maintenance of Stainless Steel

Care and Maintenance of Composite Tubs

Composite tubs are not very good at handling heat, so avoid placing hot items on them. Use a trivet or heat-resistant pad to protect the composite bathtub from high temperatures and potential damage.
Also, to ensure that the tub keeps looking appealing, clean it with a gentle, non-abrasive cleaner using a soft cloth or sponge. Pay more attention to the parts that require more cleaning. Then, rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove any cleaning residue.

2024.05.23 05:07 tab_rick Advice on the Best Restaurant Countertops

Advice on the Best Restaurant Countertops
The countertop chosen for a restaurant directly affects the functionality and efficiency of the space. There are many countertops to use, each of them made of different materials, including solid surface, granite, marble, stainless steel, quartz, concrete, wood, etc.
In this article, we will take a look at the most common materials used to make restaurant countertops and their impact on workflow. Alongside this, we will discuss salient matters like the major types of commercial countertops for restaurants, factors to consider when choosing the right countertop, and so many more.

What are Restaurant Countertops?

Restaurant countertops are basically meant for serving food and drinks. However, they also function as ice stations, cash counters, and food or drinks stores. Additionally, they serve as a division between the cooking area and eating area, allowing customers to receive their orders from the kitchen easily.
Not only are they serving counters, but they also help maximize seating space. Literarily, restaurant countertops are the focal point of any restaurant.

4 Types of Commercial Countertops for Restaurants

Commercial countertops used at restaurants can be broadly classified into four categories, which are bar countertops, food counter displays, cashier counters, and kitchen counters. They are discussed below:

Bar Countertops

These countertops are often placed just outside the kitchen and are used to serve food and drinks to individuals sitting on the opposite side of the counter or to waiters who distribute the food and drinks to diners seated in the restaurant seating area.
They are constructed to be durable, easy to clean, and resistant to stains, spills, and scratches that can be caused by staff while serving or by customers.

Food Counter Displays

These restaurant counters are commonly found in patisseries, cafes, bakeries, and coffee shops. They are made with glass or plexiglass materials that can be seen through, allowing the restaurant to showcase the food they offer, such as cakes, desserts, sandwiches, etc.
They are constructed to be visually appealing and hygienic, allowing customers to view the displayed food while maintaining safety standards. The food counter displays may also include features like refrigerators or heating appliances to keep the food fresh and at the appropriate temperature.

Cashier Counters

These commercial bar tops are where transactions take place. Sometimes a booth can be designed for the cashier to stay while he receives payment through the counter. Other times, the cashier stays directly opposite the counter.
They are constructed to be sturdy, secure, and functional to handle cash registers, POS systems, and other accounting equipment. The cashier counters are designed with features like adequate storage space, accessibility for staff, and lockable drawers or compartments for security purposes.

Kitchen Counters

These commercial countertops are the workhorses of any restaurant kitchen. They are helpful for food preparation and storing cooking appliances and ingredients. Kitchen countertops are designed to withstand heavy-duty use and meet specific health and safety regulations, such as the Food and Drug Administration.
Also, they are constructed to be highly durable, heat-resistant, and very easy to clean. Ample space should be available for free and smooth cooking.

7 Materials of Restaurant Counters

There are several materials that can be used for making restaurant countertops. But shortlisted below are the 7 most popular materials, their features, pros, and cons.

Solid Surface

Solid surface is a commercial bar counter material that’s fully engineered and composed of a mixture of resins like acrylic, polyester, and stone-derived filler. It’s similar to granite but offers more versatility. Solid surface countertops are high-end customized products and the target customers are commercial users. They are non-porous and are easy to clean and repair.
Pros
Solid surfaces are more customizable
  • There are more colors and patterns to choose from
  • The seams are easy to hide during installation
  • They are resistant to most corrosive acids and don’t require sealants
  • The perfect option for restaurants seeking a clean, uniform design

Cons
  • Solid surfaces are quite expensive
  • Extreme heat can cause damage to the surface
  • The engineered designs mean their appearance and character won’t be natural as other materials like quartz and concrete

Granite

This is a natural stone material that isn’t just used commercially for restaurant counters, but also largely used by homeowners. It begins as a rock compressed for millions of years, in which various minerals merge together. This results in the white and gray swirling that it is popularly known for. Granite can be customized to several polished and textured finishes.
Pros
  • Strong and recyclable, making it a durable and eco-friendly option
  • High valuation even after years of usage
  • Easy to clean and highly resistant to heat, stains, and scratches
  • Contributes to the luxurious and earthy visuals of the restaurant
Cons
  • Granite is very heavy and requires a strong support system
  • The material is quite expensive
  • Requires routine maintenance, such as frequent sealing to prevent moisture and bacteria from seeping into the material pores
  • Once installed, the style and color of the countertop cannot be changed

Marble

This material used in making bar counters for restaurants begins as limestone. But after being exposed to high levels of pressure and heat, it is shaped and molded. Impurities that interfere with the process are easily recognizable as they combine to form thin veins and bands of colors.
Pros
  • Marble offers a stylish and elegant appearance that complements the design of any space
  • It’s highly resistant to heat, making it suitable for temperature-sensitive areas like bakeries
  • Comes in various natural colors and engineered designs
Cons
  • Marble is susceptible to moisture and stains, particularly alcohol and acids
  • It’s a soft stone that tends to chip and scratch
  • Requires high maintenance and frequent sealing

Stainless Steel

This is one of the notable non-porous countertop materials with unparalleled durability and resistance to bacteria, hence why it is a classic choice in the food service industry. Stainless steel can be polished to shine and luster.
Pros
  • Stainless steel is easy to sanitize and clean
  • The material is sustainable and ideal for an eco-friendly commercial bar counter
  • Perfect for bar countertops that require heat-resistant work surfaces without using sealants
Cons
  • Stainless steel leaves little room for creativity, limiting the chances of complementary design with the restaurant dĂŠcor
  • Most stainless steel easily attract smudge, dust, and fingerprints, hence frequent cleaning is needed
  • Because of the material’s density, the countertops cause noise pollution while working
  • The material is susceptible to dents and scratches, which requires professional restoration

Quartz

Quartz restaurant countertops are made from quartz resin and pigment, which sometimes have coarsely ground stone inside for a flecked appearance. Others without the coarsely ground stone have a more uniform design. Quartz is a great material used in making a hygienic bar counter for restaurants.
Pros
  • Looks great and has an endless selection of colors and patterns to choose from
  • Durable and non-porous, so it’s easy to clean and requires no sealing
  • High resistance to stains and cracks, which makes it a long-lasting investment
Cons
  • Not best for people seeking a unique, uniform appearance
  • Can be expensive depending on the size and design
  • Very heavy, so there is a need for a strong support system
  • Not good at resisting heat when compared with other materials like granite and stainless steel

Concrete

Concrete countertops are made using mortar and pigment, which are then sealed to form a non-porous surface. They can be molded into various shapes and visually appealing in-lays can be included for enhanced design. While the concrete was predominantly used in industrial designs, the material is becoming popularly used in the food industry because of its ability to blend with different styles.
Pros
  • Suitable for a stain and heat-resistant work surface
  • Best for people seeking a versatile option that can adapt to their space
  • Concrete countertops can be used both indoors and outdoor
Cons
  • Very heavy, so an adequate support system is needed
  • Require frequent sealing to prevent stains and maintain their non-porous structure
  • Tend to form small cracks over time

Wood

This is one of the best kitchen countertop materials that offer a warm and inviting ambiance. Wood commercial bar tops are available in various colors and grains, offering a perfect fit for any space. They can be made in two styles – edge grain and end grain. Edge grains are parallel to one another, while end grains are usually in many shades of wood and they form a checkerboard pattern.
Pros
Visually enticing and offer great appeal to the restaurant space
  • When sealed properly, wood countertops are easy to clean and resistant to bacteria
  • They are biodegradable
Cons
  • Wood swells and contracts when it absorbs moisture, making the countertop to look unattractive and imbalance
  • The countertops must be sealed and sanded frequently for guaranteed protection from moisture, germs, and to retain the appealing appearance

Factors to Consider When Choosing the Right Countertops

Countertops are a major investment in the restaurant business. When chosen correctly, they will last for years and contribute to the performance of the business. Whether furnishing a new restaurant or renovating, these are the factors to consider when choosing restaurant counters:

Durability

This refers to the countertop’s ability to withstand the daily rigors associated with their use, such as scratches, stains, spills, dents, rusts, heat, corrosion, and moisture. Consider the activities that will be done on the counter and choose wisely. For example, if a lot of cutting or heat-related projects will be done, choose a surface that can withstand these harsh conditions.
For countertops used in commercial applications and high-traffic areas, select those made with extremely strong materials like solid surfaces, granite, stainless steel, and quartz that can stand against daily wear and tear.

Maintenance

Some homeowners and business operators prefer bar countertops that require low maintenance, so they don’t have to sacrifice many hours of the day to clean them. Low-maintenance countertops are also important so that workday operations won’t be interrupted when it’s time for repair or resealing.
On the other hand, some homeowners and business operators don’t pay much attention to maintenance. Rather, they are more focused on the stability and style that come with the countertops even though they require higher maintenance.

Cost

When considering the cost, don’t focus on the initial price of the commercial bar tops. Evaluate the ongoing care and maintenance costs. Also, put some money aside for miscellaneous, which will serve as a cost for repairs, resurfacing, and resealing. Know that some countertops require specific care products with instructions, and some others may be prone to damage. All these factors should be considered before collating the budget.
Additionally, the budget allocated for different restaurants will be different depending on the space, concept, and overall design. And the counter’s cost varies since they are made of different materials and features that may increase the cost.

Style

Consider the overall theme, décor, and branding of the restaurant. Different materials offer varying styles, such as sleek and modern looks or rustic and traditional looks. For instance, stainless steel restaurant counters can offer a contemporary and professional look, while granite offers a flashy design and a touch of elegance. So, it’s crucial to choose countertops that match the restaurant design scheme.
Style and appearance go hand-in-hand to influence how diners perceive restaurants. The bar countertops should look clean and reflect the uniqueness of the establishment. Note that some counter materials like wood change their looks as they age. However, this can be fixed by frequently resurfacing and resealing them to look new.

Heat Resistance

In restaurants, countertops will surely come in contact with hot pans, pots, or cooking appliances. Therefore, they need to be resistant to heat if they must last long and function optimally. Check for a commercial bar counter made with heat-resistant materials like solid surface, granite, or stainless steel that are known for their capability to withstand high temperatures without warping or discoloration.
On the other hand, a material like quartz is quite good at resisting heat, but it is incomparable to other materials. There are some levels of high temperatures where quartz countertops will fail.

Essential Elements of Bar or Food Service Counters

While choosing the best counter for a restaurant, don’t just focus on the type of material or the durability, maintenance, cost, style, or heat resistance. Check for the other sections included, such as storage cabinets, waste disposal, display shelves of barware, and other essential fit-outs.

Storage Cabinets

Storage cabinets are essential for properly storing food and drinks, as well as appliances that are used in the restaurant. Different types of food and drinks have a set of needs. For example, beers and cold drinks need to be kept in the refrigerator, as they are best served cold. While wine needs to be kept in a warm temperate like counter cabinets.
The size and number of cabinets the counter must have depend on the quantity of beverage that needs to be stored for quick access. Also, how the cabinets are arranged also matters if determining how easy the drinks will be easy to access.

Waste Disposal

Another essential element of bar or food service counters is waste disposal, which needs to be easily accessible to maintain cleanliness. The size and location of the waste storage should be made judging from the seating pattern and capacity of the restaurant.
For improved functionality, the countertop can be constructed to have waste holes. This ensures that scraps are easily discarded into the holes for efficient waste disposal, which helps staff avoid walking all the way to the trash cans at regular intervals. And waste bins should be placed at every corner of the building so that customers can easily dispose of scraps.

Display Shelves of Barware

One of the most intriguing and captivating components of a bar is the display shelves, especially if they are made with transparent glasses with an inner light to showcase the content of the shelves. It is best they are attached to the restaurant counters to create visual appeal to customers and help them make a quick decision on their order.
On the other hand, commercial bar counter racks that allow glasses to hang upside down can also be considered for efficient wine serving and a clean, industrial look.

Other essential Fit-Outs

Some other elements that can be included in the bar or food service counters are the dishwasher, microwave, fridge, etc. These appliances will help improve the efficiency and performance of staff in serving the customers well.

Other Accessory Options that Perfect Your Countertops

Having talked about the essential elements that perfect countertops, let’s discuss the additional accessory options that can further enhance countertops’ perfection.

Lighting

Countertops with proper lighting are more beautiful and visually appealing to both servers and clients. Also, they create a safe, functional, and comfortable environment, which promotes the image of the restaurant. Installing overhead lights help provide adequate lighting for servers to work, and recessed downlights directly above the countertop center bring out the beauty of the countertop, including the design and pattern of the material.

Bar Sinks

These are low-height sinks that are installed under the commercial bar counter to help servers prepare drinks or wash glassware. They are commonly made from durable, corrosion-resistant stainless steel, and can come with insulated ice chests or racks that provide easy access to bottles needed by bartenders to prepare drinks.

Cabinetry Hardware

While good-looking restaurant countertops are always a sight to behold, the hardware that goes into its production is very important to its underlying durability, maintenance, cost, style, and heat resistance. KKR’s restaurant counters are made using only solid surface materials and they remain 100% functional regardless of years of usage and environment.

3 Ways to Design the Perfect Bar Countertop

With so many materials and essential elements available, there is a great chance to customize countertops to be exceptionally stunning. Creating a high aesthetic value commercial bar counter can result in the overall success of the restaurant.

Choose Unique Bar Top Material

The first noticeable part of a bar counter for a restaurant is the top. The material used to make the top goes a long way in affecting the appearance of the counter. While most people automatically think of stone as the best material, there are other options, such as solid surface, granite, marble, stainless steel, etc. The chosen material should blend with the ambiance of the bar.

Determine Appropriate Counter Height

Consider how high the counter will be and how comfortable diners will feel when seating. The counter should be constructed to accommodate various barstool heights and offer an ergonomic workspace for bartenders. Basically, the standard height for bar counters is 40-42 inches i.e., 101-107 cm. However, this can be altered based on specific reasons, such as the average height of the bartenders or the style of barstools used.

Create a Design with Curved Edges

When designing commercial bar tops, there is no limitation on the type of edges to use. Other than using straight lines, the bar tops can be shaped to be curvy to be more eye-catching and unique. The degree of curvature can vary, ranging from subtle curves to more pronounced arcs depending on the desired aesthetics and space available.

2024.05.23 03:20 Dear_Stuff_2475 Random Post 5 - Humans/Gods that desperately need their own fan roster agenda: Jiang Ziya "Master Ivory" or "Master Tusk

Random Post 5 - Humans/Gods that desperately need their own fan roster agenda: Jiang Ziya
Jiang Ziya was a nobody for most of his life. But he never gave up. This is the story of how he fulfilled his aspirations after many years of hardship.
Let’s talk about the story of a late bloomer, a Chinese man from more than 3,000 years ago. In the first half of his life, he was a nobody and went through many hardships.
Only at the incredibly ripe age of 72 did he start seeing some success. He then went on to become a powerful military strategist.
He was instrumental in overthrowing the corrupted king of the Shang dynasty and helped to establish the longest dynasty in Chinese history, the Zhou Dynasty. This man is called LĂź Shang, better known as Jiang Ziya, or Jiang Taigong.
Extraordinary people usually descend from extraordinary ancestors, right? And Jiang Ziya was no exception. He was a descendant of Emperor Shennong. However, by the time Jiang Ziya was born in 11th century B.C., his family was already very poor.
In ancient China, it was every educated man’s dream to work for the government and realize their talents. And for a smart man like Jiang Ziya, he had the same aspiration as well. For a while, he worked as a minor official in the court of the King of the Shang Dynasty, Shang Zhou Wang Di Xin.
This king was very tall and handsome, and he was so strong that he could defeat beasts with his bare hands. And he wasn’t just all brawn and no brain. He was also very clever. Unfortunately, he didn’t put his gifts to good use. He used his eloquence to brag about himself and cover up his mistakes. And he didn’t heed anyone’s advice. He thought, “Oh, nobody in the world is as amazing as me. I’m chosen by heaven!”
The King completely ignored state affairs and simply drank and partied all day long. And he was not busy having a jolly time, he was abusing and punishing, torturing his people, including his ministers. He and his concubine, Daji, invented many extremely cruel punishments, and they derived pleasure from watching people suffer. He also heavily taxed the people to support his own decadent lifestyle. For simplicity, let’s refer to this king as the “Wicked King”.
Jiang Ziya was disgusted by the wicked king. He was also fed up because he cannot put his talents to good use and benefit the people. The wicked king only favoured officials who encouraged his evil acts, and Jiang Ziya could never do that. Disappointed by all of this, he wanted to leave his position. The last straw might have been when the wicked king invented a devilishly cruel punishment. He installed a large, hollow bronze cylinder and stuffed the inside with burning charcoal. The prisoner was then tied to the scorching cylinder, which resulted in an excruciating death.
Jiang Ziya realized that the wicked King’s dynasty is destined to fall, so he quit his job and went home. From then on, in order to make ends meet, he did odd jobs here and there. He became a butcher and sold meat. But the weather became so hot that all his meat quickly went bad. He also tried selling other things like alcohol or wheat flour. But all of these business ventures failed miserably. He was already middle-aged, yet he hadn’t accomplished anything in life.
One day, his wife just could not take it anymore, “You are such a loser. An utter failure. Look how poor we are. You are such a useless man. I’m leaving you.” So she kicked him out. Jiang Ziya just seemed to be having a long streak of bad luck. You know, as the Chinese people say, “Dǎoméi de shíhòu, hē liángshuǐ dū sāi yá” (“When you’re unlucky, even water gets stuck in your teeth”).
Despite all of these misfortunes, there was one thing that Jiang Ziya persisted with, which was learning. Regardless of his circumstances, Jiang Ziya never stopped learning. He read voraciously and accumulated knowledge in astronomy, geography, government and politics, military strategy, and much more. He was just waiting for an opportunity to serve a leader who could appreciate his knowledge and intelligence.
So you can see here one quality that distinguishes him from many others. He had grand ambitions and high aspirations. An old Chinese saying goes “Without roots, a tree cannot grow tall. And without aspirations, a man cannot achieve great things.” It’s like in modern times too, all the successful people talk about the importance of setting goals.
Another prominent quality of Jiang Ziya is patience. Patience is a virtue. There’s a reason why people say that. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, things just do not go your way and life can really suck. At those times, the best thing you can do is to wait patiently and keep on improving yourself—”Chance favours only the prepared mind.” (Louis Pasteur)
Finally, when Jiang Ziya was 70 years old, this chance, this golden opportunity came. He heard that one of the small states had a very good ruler. Xčbó Hóu Jč Chāng, the Duke of Zhou. This duke ruled over his people through kindness and virtue. He respected the old and was kind to the young. He was also diligent and appreciated talent. As a result, he attracted many capable people to his state.
So upon hearing about him, Jiang Ziya thought, “I want to work for him!” But as you can imagine, not just anyone can approach someone in such a high position. For example, just because I feel I have great knowledge of how to govern a country doesn’t mean the British Prime Minister would be willing to meet me.
How do you attract someone’s attention without approaching them? You have to pique their curiosity. You have to do something unusual to catch their attention. Jiang Ziya, with all his smarts and the knowledge accumulated throughout the years, came up with an eccentric plan. He found a lovely spot near the river and settled himself there and started fishing. But not just any kind of fishing. He didn’t use any bait, and he used a straight fishhook instead of the usual curved one. And he had a fish hook three feet above the water. On top of all of these, he also muttered to himself, “Fish, fish. If you don’t want to live anymore, just get on the hook yourself.”
He did this all day and every day. People thought he was crazy. One man laughed at him and said, “I’ve seen many idiots, but I haven’t seen anyone as silly as you. You are never going to catch a fish even if you sit here for another 100 years.” Jiang Ziya simply stroked his beard, shook his head and replied. “No, no, no, no. You don’t understand. The fish is not what I’m trying to catch.”
What did Jiang Ziya mean? Well, his approach was very Chinese. In fact, his thinking aligned with the Daoist philosophy of letting fate unravel itself and following the course of nature. Just like the willing fish being caught by itself. A virtuous leader who is deserving of Jiang’s service will come and seek him out. All Jiang Ziya had to do was just to wait patiently.
One day the virtuous duke decided to go hunting, and he arrived near the river. He saw that among the tall grass sat an old man, which was still there. The Duke quietly observed for a few minutes and found his fishing method very strange indeed. So the Duke approached Jiang Ziya and asked, “Sir, how are you? What are you doing here? Do you enjoy fishing?”
Now, finally, for the first time, Jiang Ziya had the opportunity to pitch himself to the virtuous duke. Jiang Ziya calmly said “An average man is satisfied when he completes a task, while a great man is satisfied only when he fulfils his aspiration. I’m not sitting here because I enjoyed the act of fishing itself.”
Basically, he’s implying, not very subtly, that he’s not an average man. He is someone special. He continued his speech “Just like when a man tries to catch a fish, the same principles apply to when a leader tries to recruit talented people. There are three power moves. First, you need a bait, which is the reward. And second, the bait needs to be yummy. So the salary needs to be generous. And third, you need to offer prominent positions to capable people. When you can do all of these. Then you’ll be able to recruit brave and loyal people who might even be willing to risk their lives for you.”
This was exactly what the virtuous Duke needed to hear. If he wanted to strengthen his own state and eventually overthrow the powerful, Wicked King, he can’t just do that by himself. He needed to build a strong team of key talents.
The virtuous Duke said, “Please tell me more. How can I win people over?” Jiang Ziya continued to share his infinite wisdom, “A country could become powerful only when the people prosper. If the officials enrich themselves while the people remain poor, the rule cannot last long. The major principle in ruling a country should be to love the people and to love the people means to reduce taxes and unnecessary labour and share your wealth with them. Improve people’s comfort and reduce their pain. That is the Dao or the Way of the King. If you follow the Dao, people will follow you.”
The Duke was very impressed with this astute old man and courteously invited Jiang Ziya onto his carriage and appointed him as the advisor. After arriving at the state of Zhou, Jiang Ziya advocated for virtuous governing. As a result, the people of Zhou developed very high moral values. The virtuous Duke and Jiang Ziya also promoted agriculture and boosted the economy, as well as expanded the area of influence.
Eventually, about two-thirds of China either directly belonged to or were allies of the virtuous Duke. Sadly, shortly afterwards, the virtuous Duke passed away. His second son, Jifa, inherited the throne and followed in his father’s footsteps. Like father, like son, he was also a virtuous leader and cared deeply about his people. Let’s call him “Virtuous Duke 2.0”.
In 1046 B.C., the Wicked King became even more hedonistic and ruthless. Two of his uncles were also ministers at the court, and they advised the king to abandon his playboy ways. But instead of listening, the Wicked King savagely killed one of his uncles and threw the other one in prison. Soon, the people of the Shang were so oppressed that no one dared to speak. People had completely lost their faith in the wicked king.
Around the same time, the wicked king dispatched his main army force to fight far away in the east of China, which meant that the Shang Dynasty’s capital city was left poorly defended. Jiang Ziya and virtuous Duke 2.0 believed that this was the perfect time to attack.
But before making the decision as it was customary, Virtuous Duke 2.0 turned to divination. Divination was a common practice back in ancient China. It’s a way to gain insight into a situation or prophesise an event. Basically, it’s fortune-telling. The Royal Diviner burned a piece of the tortoiseshell, interpreted the cracks on it, and announced that the omen was unfavourable. In fact, it was terrible.
At the same time, suddenly dark clouds gathered overhead and then there was lightning, thunder and downpour. The atmosphere instantly intensified. Everyone at the court was terrified and they all thought that the expedition should be cancelled. Well, everyone, except for Jiang Ziya.
He snapped a tortoiseshell, slammed it onto the floor and stomped it into many pieces. He was furious and said, “What can bones from dead animals tell us about the future? We must go ahead and attack.” Now, you might find this really strange. It seems as if Jiang Ziya was defying the will of heaven, but clearly, he respected heaven and he was not an atheist.
So why did he dismiss the prediction? Well, one critical element in warfare is timing. You have to move fast. Jiang Ziya once said that if you want to be successful, if you want to follow the Dao or the Way of the Saints, then you must avoid hesitating and doubting yourself when the timing is right.
On top of that, divination requires interpretation. Different people may interpret the same tortoiseshell pattern differently. What lies in the future is ultimately unknown and something we cannot control. What we can control are our actions. So I think that’s why he insisted on the attack. Sure, he was patient, but he was also quick to act when it’s the right time to do so. And that is the yin and yang of life.
Virtuous Duke 2.0 took Jiang Ziya’s advice and went forward with the expedition. He led an army of 300 chariots, 3,000 elite warriors and 45,000 footmen. Together, they crossed the Yellow River and stopped at Muye, which was only 70 miles away from the Wicked King’s capital. Here they met the Wicked King’s defending Army, which was ten times bigger and consisted of over 700,000 men.
Jiang Ziya led a small group of 100 men, beat the drums and charged forward. Imagine a silver-haired man in his eighties fighting on the battlefield. What a sight to behold! A poem from Shijing described him “as mighty, as an eagle spreading its wings.” On the other hand, many of the Wicked King’s soldiers did not want to fight for their corrupted leader and defected to the virtuous Duke 2.0 army.
This greatly lowered the morale of the Wicked King’s troops, and they were defeated within one day. When the Wicked King saw that his capital had been taken over, he dashed back to the palace and climbed onto the tallest building in the capital, where he used to party all day long. He donned his best clothes, put on luxurious jewellery, set fire to everything, and committed suicide.
The Virtuous Duke released the ministers that were put into prison, distributed the Wicked King’s remaining treasures and money, and open the granaries so the poor people could get food. Thus, the Zhou dynasty began and Virtuous Duke 2.0 became King of Zhou.
As for Jiang Ziya, as a reward for his contributions, he was appointed to the State of Qi and became the Duke of Qi. Through his wise governing, Qi became a big, powerful and prosperous state. Jiang Ziya passed away when he was over 100 years old.
So that’s the story of how a man finally fulfils his aspirations after many years of hardship. If you are experiencing a midlife crisis or even a quarter-life crisis, just remember that every flower blooms at a different rate.
Some people achieve success at a young age, while others have to persevere for decades before accomplishing extraordinary things. No matter what’s going on in your life, be like Jiang Ziya, never give up and always work on yourself!

2024.05.23 03:17 Jinxse How do I tell myfiance (25M) that his mom is making me (24F) uncomfortable?

Context: My relationship w my parents has always been VERY rocky and resulting in a random late night move out in June 2021. My Fiance and I have been together since end of 2019. I moved into his family’s home ( they lived in the basement of his Uncles house).
Now I’m going to be very candid with this. My fiance’s family is not well off. they’ve struggled in the last financially, but have always managed to stay afloat once my Fiance started working. When I first moved in everything was fine. I’m very antisocial but socialized and talked to his family just fine even before I moved in. I will say I never exclusively helped with household chores, but I also never felt pressured to help because I would spend majority of my time in my Fiance’s room ( I was suffering from severe depression and anxiety when I first moved in). My thought process also came from my own trauma and wanted to avoid everyone getting used to me cleaning for them as it was not my “home” and the plan was to move out soon anyway. Well fast forward to 2023, I began to notice that his mom would make comments to my fiance such as “ you never buy me anything anymore” or straight up saying he doesnt give her money anymore. My fiance has told me that he holds his mom on a pedastool due to past family problems. It’s also been very evident on their behavior that his mom LOVES him. When she drinks she becomes VERY affectionate and looks for him to hug, kiss his cheeks. she will sit on his lap and nuzzle into his neck and begin to sob into him saying she loves him and crys about him leaving her. there was one particular instance that left my uncomfortable. She and my fiance’s dad were drunk at the neighbors house. Called my fiance asking him to come over, then later called me to go over. I uncomfortably went to keep my fiance company. During this time, she was sobbing into his shoulder kept pulling him closer then the worst happened. She called out attention to everyone else ( who were all drunk besides my fiance and I) and asked my fiance ( we were not engaged at the time) who he will always love more? to which my fiance said her. I did talk to him about this two days later onces I had my thoughts collected ( Im not very confrontational due to my upbringing). At first he legit told me “ okay I’ll tell my mom she can’t joke with you.” but after some more conversing he understood that that isnt something you say. We came to the conclusion that if his mother were to say something like that again he HAS to set a boundary with his mom because if I felt that he wwas prioritizing his mom over me that I would leave. And Ive stressed to him time and time again his mother is his mother I will never be his mother nor replace his mother. the love she gives to himis unique as his the love I have for him. Fast forward to April 2024 we found a house to rent and when he told his parents that we signed the lease, his mother was absolutely shattered. He seemed to have his doubts and when I would ask if he was regretting this decision he would reassure me that us moving out would have to happen eventually. His dad also seemed to guilt him a bit by telling him that by us leaving he would have to work more at his job( we paid $600/$1400 for rent not to mention they always wanted to order food out on weekend or whenever he was off and I worked). And I forgot to mention that I didnt like cooking there because I would not buy groceries so it felt wrong to use someone elses things knowing she probably already had her meals planned out for the week and because I also felt uncomfortable only cooking for myself and him when the way I was raised you cooked for everyone in the house but Inwas not about to start buying all the indgrediants for the recipie just because I didnt want to use her things. well now that we’ve moved out she’s constantly cooking for us all the suddentelling us to ggo over after work to pick up our food when she would rarely cook food that her son liked ( he’s extremely pick at no fault of his own his parents never made him try new things). Ive told my fiance to tell her to stip cooking things for hs because thats why we grocery shop and quite literally have 5 meals in the fridge rn that we havent been able to eat because we both got a stomach bug these past days. this last day was my final straw. we have been in our new home for one week. on Monday they came over ( which i knew about because my fiance had previously told me). however I was sick still and when she called me she was asking for her son because he wasnt responding to her calls and he had to be up becausse they were coming to install our internet. then she just drops a bit of info i wasnt expcting . she tells me she invited her neighbors ( same ones where she was drunk). at that pointt my fiance had called her bc I was in the bathroom and he didnt know I was talking to her. when he finished her call I told him did you know she invited them? to which he said I do now. I told him that it made me a bit upset bc she should have asked before inviting someone over to plavce that is not her home. we said f*** it she already invited them bt next is a no. when she was at the house she also made a comment that rubbed me the wrong way she basically daid to the nieghbor “omg the owner must see us bringing in all these things he probably thinks we’removing in too” ( the reason this threw me off is bc when we told her we were moving she was crying to her som saying that we should buy a house instead so they can all move with us)… I know I should have said something earlier but I just dont know how to bring it up to my fiance without thinking im attacking him .
TLDR: My fiances mom makes me uncomofrtable with her comment but my fiance doesnt seem to notice and only sees them in good nature .

2024.05.23 02:43 throwaway_4thwatch Help us where to report these institutions.

Hello I was about to crosspost this article that I wrote in ExKultoPH but unfornately links aren't allowed here so I'll just copy paste it here what I wrote there.
Maranatha Christian Academy/National Christian Life College is a non-denominational private school that is operated by the Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ. The school has over 100 branches across the country and operates the affiliated bible school known as Maranatha Bible School International. This organization uses the school as an opportunity to indoctrinate, victimize, and exploit young minds, particularly those who are not members of the church. Their primary goal is to recruit members and grow their organization in order to generate significant revenue. Here are several reasons why one should not enroll their child in this school/it would not be wise to enroll yourself in this institution:
  1. Despite the school's claim of being non-sectarian, it still allows non-members to enroll. However, once these students step inside the school, teachers begin to manipulate them into believing that the Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ (PMCC) is the only true church, and not their own religion.
  2. The school's curriculum is heavily influenced by the teachings of the Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ, and may not be objective or fair to all students, particularly those who do not share the same beliefs.
  3. Many teachers at this school are unlicensed and inexperienced. They lack the necessary knowledge to effectively teach the subjects they're supposed to be teaching. The school/cult is aware of this situation but has chosen to ignore it because they don't want to spend money on manpower. The school doesn't pay its teachers well either. Many teachers have reported receiving only 300-500 pesos per week, which is a severe violation of labor laws and regulations. Additionally, the teachers don't teach well, either. They will just read what's in the book and turn the page after without explaining it. Even if the answer is wrong in a quiz, the teachers will mark it as correct.
  4. There have been reports of students who have experienced trauma and being sexually harassed by teachers, resulting in negative psychological effects as a result of attending the school. Students have spoken up about their experiences with hard evidence, but the school has allowed the problems to be swept under the rug. The school stated that they will not allow these sexual offenders to teach anymore, but what they did was move the teacher to a different school that is also under PMCC.
  5. Students who are non-members of this cult are required to attend their events for a better grade. This violates the school curriculum as students pay their tuition fees for a quality education and not to be forced into attending events such as church anniversaries, thanksgiving and many more events that is related to PMCC.
  6. During events that are not open to non-members, students are being forced to donate money to the church/school. This is an enforced donation as students are given envelopes with their names on them to put their money in. They are being closely monitored by professional cameras in a large crowd as they drop their envelopes into a gold dropbox. For students who aren't assigned to drop their envelopes there, envelopes are being collected by teachers. Additionally, some students attend even though they don't have to because the school requires it and they receive a plus grade for attendance
  7. This school advertises itself as a bully-free zone, but there are numerous bullying cases that are swept under the rug. Instead of assisting victims to solve the problem in a fair and efficient manner, the school simply tells them to leave it to God to resolve the trauma, which is not an effective solution.
  8. This school also accepts enrollees who have a criminal record and don't require any psychological testing. They simply accept students on the belief that they can change them through God. In the past, there was an incident where a student died as a result of bullying. However, despite this tragic incident, the school continued to accept students who had been kicked out of other schools and did not become more strict with the acceptance process.
  9. Many teachers at the school strive to build a friendly relationship with their students, especially non-members, in order to obtain personal information such as their lifestyle, parents' profession, source of income, and more about their personal life. Once a student has shared all of this information, the teacher might then kindly ask the student to seek sponsorships or donations for the church. This is concerning as teachers should not have to ask for sponsorships and donations for the church.
  10. This school implements a system of section ranking, with classes labeled as Class A, B, C and possibly D. This hierarchy is unfair and results in biased treatment towards students. Class A students are favored and provided with more opportunities than students in other sections. On the other hand, Class C students are often neglected in terms of quality of education. This is not equitable, as all students pay school expenses but do not receive the fair treatment and quality education that they deserve.
  11. Teachers would definitely initiate Christmas carolings as well as home visitations or dinners at restaurants with students and their parents. In fact, it's part of the cult doctrine that members should give large amounts of money to the church. To achieve this goal, teachers would do whatever it takes, including borrowing money and asking for solicitations.
  12. This school not only requires excessive fees for students to pay, but they also require surrender fees for students to turn their cellphones over to the school's office. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the school will be held liable if the cell phones are lost or stolen. In addition, students are expected to pay for the cult's leaders' gifts or they face threats of being withheld their report cards.
  13. This school initiates many extracurricular programs and events that take up students' time, which should be spent studying. As a result, students do not complete their lessons and miss class time. To make up for this, students who participate in these events are often graded in exchange for missed lessons, which goes against the school's curriculum as established by the Department of Education.
  14. This school invites non-members to participate in chapel hours. While it's commendable to spread the word of God, the issue arises when teachers teach the doctrines of the Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ, especially regarding the rapture. Preachers/Pastors manipulate both non-members and students, even elementary school students, into believing that if they do not get baptized in this church, they will not be saved. Moreover, preachers/pastors also manipulate their students into donating money during chapel hour.
  15. Students' parents pay tuition fees for their education, but there may be additional hidden costs that students are required to pay. For example, some students may need to pay for facilities and cleaning materials, which can be frustrating considering the exorbitant tuition fees they already pay. Why is it that students are expected to pay for additional expenses when they are already paying for a private school? It begs the question of where the funds are being allocated, especially since the school doesn't even pay their employees.
  16. This school has also been accredited by PAASCU and PEAC-FAPE, but not everything that is advertised is true. When school inspections are announced, teachers make students act properly during inspection. Additionally, the school only appears proper, upgrades its facilities, and looks good when an inspection is forthcoming.
  17. They would also teach their students that they should worship these cult leaders by praising and kneeling before them. This school isn't about God anymore, but rather, it centers around these cult leaders/fake apostles.
If you are a student of this school, it's best to consider transferring to a more reputable and accredited institution that fosters ethical values, promotes a positive learning environment, and places the well-being of its students at the forefront. For students considering enrollment, it is crucial to conduct thorough research and gather information about the school's culture, curriculum, and staff before making a decision.
To those who are currently a student, or a former student, of this school, your knowledge and first-hand experiences are important in providing insight and guidance for others. If you've experienced anything similar to what was discussed above, it's vital to share your story and connect with others who have been affected. Together, we can raise awareness and promote positive change within the educational system.

2024.05.23 01:59 Embarrassed-Stick639 My boss is a frustrated/trying hard pastor

I have to get this out of my chest. Pikon na pikon ako sa boss ko and at the same time naccringe ako sa kaniya.
For context, he's a christian and i'm a catholic. he's a president of the company and i'm his assistant. We have this at work na every friday may bible study and he's the facilitator. At first, di siya sapilitan, kung sino lang daw gusto sumama. Pero since assistant niya ako, ako pinagsesend niya ko ng zoom invitation for the employees of the company. Walang umaattend. Why? Kasi ginaganap yun tuwing friday at 12nn. Sino ba naman gustong umattend ng lunch time? Imbis na nagpapahinga at kumakain nang maayos yung mga tao aattend dun.
One day, narealize niya na walang masyadong umaattend. Sabi niya we need to have catchy invitations. Ang corny daw and all. Ending, ang daming version ng invitation yung nasend ko and sobrang nakakahiya. Tumatawag yung mga officers na, "huy ano yung sinend mo? Required ba yun?" Ako lang lahat sumalo ng kahihiyan since ako yung pinag sesend niya.
After all those kahihiya and mga panlalait niya sa invitation na ginawa ko, wala parin umattend. Ngayon, naisip niya naman face to face nalang. Like????? Ipupush mo talaga yang agenda mo??? Nasa work tayo pero yan lang iniisip mo. Sobrang bothering and nakakasagabal na siya sa work ko kasi di lang naman pagiging assisstant niya yung trabaho ko. May iba pa.

2024.05.23 01:41 ManuJPL My 26 years experience of playing MMORPG's & thoughts on the current state of MMORPG's.

bear with me please, English is not my first language.
1998 I played Ultima online from till 2004, and several years after on and off in Private servers. I absolutely loved the game and till this day it is hands down the best and most complete game I’ve ever played.
Ultima Online. Must have played over 15k hours but hard to quantify. Might have been more.
*Pros:
-The sense of exploration, the world felt alive, nothing was instanced. No linear quests telling you how to play the game, you just went out and explored whatever you felt like doing that day.
-The housing system was the real end game goal, it’s the best or one of the best player housing systems I’ve seen, they were out in the world for everyone to see, yes there were limited spaces and by the time I started playing you had to buy a house from someone else because you couldn’t place a house anymore, that did not matter, the world was HUGE and there were plenty of people selling houses, It gave you a real goal to aim for, you buy a house and you slowly work towards a bigger one in a better location etc. It gave players something to thrive for.
-Trading system, players owned vendors NPC’s that they could place in their house, or in a house owned by someone that befriended you to their house. This also led to players creating shopping malls, people with big houses would rent these NPC’s slots for people to sell things in their mall. This led to a whole new way of trading where it rewarded people for just wandering around the world looking for good deals instead of sitting in an auction house. Players would also sell items in the different cities or even open portals to these malls and advertise them themselves to attract customers.
-Skill system, everyone had 700 points that you could spread between 58 skills, at the beginning each skill could only reach a max of 100, so most of the characters would work towards 7 skills to 100, or any split that they desired.
-Open world pvp. Faction system, 4 factions constantly fighting with each other to control cities and the economy of those cities. These were not mandatory but it was a really good and fun system with ranks and everything for those who loved big scale and small scale pvp.
-Crafting, you could literally just have a character that all his 700 points were invested into crafting and gathering skills and just be a craftsman/tradesman if this is what you enjoyed doing. Crafting would brand items that you crafted with a “Crafted by(yourname)” tag which made you feel really good when you see people running around with gear or clothing made by you.
-Animal Taming, you could literally tame dragons or other animals and control them to fight for you while you healed them. A lot of the strongest mounts required a certain skill in Animal Taming to be able to own it and control it, this was such a unique and fun way to play the game.
There’s a lot more niche Pros that I could list but it would only be a post about Ultima Online if i did that.
*Cons:
-Full Loot, it was brutal. I didn't mind it because I didn't know anything else, but it drove a lot of people away from the game. Full loot was a pro for people (me included) but I've come to understand that it could've been better designed to retain and attract more players.
-The game didn't age well. In my opinion the game changed for the worst ever since its 2003 expansion Age of Shadows. A lot of changes that slowly began to ruin the game after this expansion, leading to a lot of people including me quitting the game sooner or later.
Honestly I can't think of any more Cons… the game was ahead of its time and till this day has some of the best systems any MMORPGs have ever seen.
Conclusion: Overall Great game, bit of a niche due to being a full loot which could've been handled better but since it was first to its kind there was no way to know this. This game is the foundation of every single MMORPG out there, and like I’ve said, still the most complete out of all the MMO.
2001 I had been invited to play the beta of Dark Age of Camelot so I had hopes for this game to be the next UO, when the game came out I felt like I had to make a choice and at this moment UO was offering everything I needed from a game so I decided not to play Camelot.
2003 By this time I wasn’t feeling too great about the changes made to UO so I decided to try a new MMORPG and I started playing Lineage 2. The game looked amazing! But the movement and the combat felt rather clunky, nevertheless I did like the game so I played for about 4-5 years on and off.
Lineage 2. Played around 6k+ hours.
*Pros:
-Open World. A lot of open world pvp. Open world Raids, lots of pvp for these. If i recall correctly nothing or almost anything was instanced.
-Character Aesthetics, I believe till this day this game has some of the best looking characters and armors Ive ever seen.
-Class design, I really enjoyed the class design of this game. Every single class was useful and needed.
-Castle Sieges and Clan/Guild controlling castles, fighting for territory were some of the most epic and fun memories of this game.
*Cons:
-Extremely grindy game, huge difference from ultima online while playing ultima i never felt i had to take a break because i could just do other stuff. In lineage if you were not Grinding you were pvping. There was no in between so at points I needed to take breaks from the game because I felt drained from the grind.
-Movement and character control felt extremely clunky.
-Extremely gear dependent. I absolutely hated this. I don't think gear should be the main focus of an mmorpg, this leads to poor long term progressions.
-As good as Class design was in the grand scheme, some classes were completely useless without a party. This made them extremely rare and lacking in most guilds.
-Very hard, nearly impossible to play as a solo player. This game was not designed for this.
-No player housing.
-The game did not age well and became a p2w fest.
Conclusion: Lineage 2 was a fun game as long as you had a solid group, I was lucky enough to play this with some of my best friends and even though the game was a painful grind, still one of the most fun pvp memories i've had. The game lacked in the Pve department and was never too popular here in the western region due to this.
2004 World of Warcraft release date. In one of the breaks I took from Lineage 2 I decided to play World of Warcraft and see what the creators of Diablo (which I was a huge fan of) came up with. I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I have played every single expansion ever since its release (including all the re-releases and SOD)
World of Warcraft. Hard to quantify the hours, played every single expansion, got Gladiator once, was in a top 5 server pve guild. So basically did about everything you could do, def not just a casual.
*Pros:
-The best movement / character control I've seen in a game. It just felt and responded to perfection.
-First game that got me interested in Lore. I feel like the warcraft story for the most part was excellent.
-Class designs. This is a pro and a con. I loved the way they designed the classes and the idea behind them.
-Excellent pve mechanics, epic Raids and amazing Dungeons designs.
-Decent Structure pvp, the older the game got the worse the pvp got.
*Cons:
-Extremely linear, hated the fact that I had to constantly do shores for npcs (quests) in order to level up and get experience and gear.
-The same issue with Lineage where Gear is the only thing that matters.
-Class system led to a lot of useless classes in the end game because of subpar performances.
In retail this was fixed but classes kind of lost their Identities along the way, every class in retail feels like it can do everything now.
-Very few mmorpg aspects, it felt more MMOLike in the earlier versions (vanilla) but still had too many restrictions. Flying mount killed the very few mmo elements the game had. In retail you don't even need to interact with anyone outside your guild/group, the game feels like a dungeon/ raid simulator rather than an MMO.
-No real long term progression other than collecting mounts and “transmog” every Gear becomes useless with every new raid, keeping you in this constant loop of finding new Gear.
-Really bad economy. Most of the gear is bound which leads to little to no trading. No real player driven economy.
-Poor use of old content and zones, to a point where they become ghost towns/zones and completely useless and irrelevant.
-40, 25, 20 man content. This is so bad, having this amount of ppl commit to a schedule for a certain amount of days and hours is completely insane, 8-10-12 at most is fine but more than this is completely unnecessary. You can hardly appreciate what's happening in a fight with 20+ people, let alone control them. This only works for the top 1% or less.
-Flying mounts, take away from the exploration and immersion of the game, also kills open world interactions and pvp.
-No open world pvp after Classic.
-No player housing.
Conclusion: WoW has been the King of the MMO genre ever since its existence, it had the best engine, best character movements and response, but the game lacked MMO elements and every expansion made this more and more noticeable. Very linear and strictly focused on Raids and Dungeons. Overall WoW used to be a great game, the first Giant in the MMO genre.
2005 Guild Wars 1, I really loved this game but this felt more like a co-op online RPG than an actual mmorpg. What made me love the game was the class design, the looks and the PVP. For those who don't know, this game is the reason WoW got structured pvp, Battlegrounds and arenas. The game was so ahead of its time, it had a built in Observer mode where you could watch LIVE matches / tournaments. It had world cup tournaments in the form of 10v10 guild vs guild combat, much like nowadays MOBAS.
Guild Wars 1.Around 4k+ Hours. Played for about 4-5 years on and off, since I strictly only did pvp with my friends. It was a good side game that I could hop whenever friends were ready to pvp.
Pros:
-Innovative structure competitive pvp, best of its kind. Absolutely excellent.
-Casual friendly pve game easy to pick up with interesting Lore.
-Excellent Class design where you could mix 2 classes with each other.
-Limited abilities, you could only have 8 skills/spells with you so you really had to plan the skills you and your teammates were going to bring, this opens up for a lot of creativity and innovation, specially in competitive pvp.
-Observer mode, allowed you to watch tournaments and top ranked matches live which brought another level of entertainment to the game.
-Aesthetics where top tier, armors and character designs looked amazing.
Cons:
-Instanced world, it really didn't feel like an MMO, you only saw people outside of your party in towns but the world was instanced to your party.
-Lack of Pve content, it really didn’t offer much in the pve department.
-PvP, as much as pvp was a con, this was too early in time where competitive structure team based pvp games like (Dota, Hon, LoL) had not really existed yet, so it drove all the pve players back to WoW. Perhaps nowadays this game would have been huge.
-Almost no MMO elements, no crafting, no real economy etc…
-No player housing.
Conclusion: Niche audience due to being mainly a PvP focused game. First of its kind, absolutely one of the best pvp games i've played.
At this point I was jumping between UO private servers, Lineage 2. WoW expansions, Guild Wars 1, and Dota.
2012 Guild Wars 2. I felt this game was a let down for us GW1 lovers, but they appealed to a bigger audience, the pve audience (understandable), leaving out major pvp elements that made GW1 great, such as its own name Guild Wars, were not included in the game when it came out. I don't know what it was about this game’s pve but it was not for me. I played about a year of this game strictly doing pvp after reaching level cap on my pve character and quit the game. Tried coming back but pve still felt weird for me and that didn't end up working out.
Guild Wars 2. As much as I loved GW1, GW2 was not my cup of tea, one of the games in this list that I’ve played the least. Must have played around 800-1k hours, mostly pvp.
*Pros:
-Good graphics and Aesthetics, the game looked really good when it came out.
-Combat, first mix of action/target combat I’ve yet played and it felt really responsive and smooth. Overall really good and interesting combat, still one of the best till this day.
-Decently structured pvp, definitely a downgrade from GW1 but what can you do…
*Cons:
-Limited open world pvp.
-I felt it lacked a lot of MMO aspects, but to be fair I just couldn't engage enough to be able to appreciate the game for its pve elements.
-A huge downgrade in the PvP elements from GW1, no observer mode, no GvG, no Rank system when it came out (not sure if they added any of this by now).
Conclusion: I didn’t play this game enough to have a strong opinion, the game has its audience and people seem to like it a lot, but if i'm going to compare it to the other games that i had played, it lacked in every single department not making it strong in anything, but decent in everything.
2013 Archage. When this game released it brought tears to my eyes, i felt like a new version of Ultima Online (without the full loot) had been born, it did lack in the PVE department but boy the sandbox elements of this game made it fun, It was one of the most fun games i've yet played in my life, until the greedy p2w took over and ruined the game, which didn't take very long to be fair. It gave me probably 3-5 good months and then it became unbearable.
Archage. Due to its lifespan before p2w being short, I probably played around 1k+ hours.
*Pros:
-Player driven economy, absolutely the most fun and engaging economy in a game that I have played.
-Player housing and farms, HUGE win, this was the biggest focus of the game in my opinion.
-Very Good character design, kinda like GW1 where you mixed 2 classes here you mixed 3 and that would give you your class.
-Sandbox open world, you could literally play the game the way you wanted, nothing linear it was completely up to your choices.
-Open world pvp, super fun and had a major impact in the economy and in the pve as well.
-Best fishing in any game I've played, by far one of the most fun and rewarding activities in this game.
-Best naval combat of any MMO. Some of my best memories were in the sea, highjacking another player boat full of trading packs and stealing them for profit.
*Cons:
-Poor Pve mechanics, poor dungeons and raids designs, it failed to deliver and to appeal to the pve players.
-I didn't mind the combat, but I have to admit it wasn't the best, after playing GW2 and WoW, this definitely felt worse.
-P2W. Absolutely despise any form of p2w in any game.
Conclusion: this game nailed the MMO elements, yes it lacked in pve but that could've been fixed with time and it would have become one of the best games ever, IF and only IF p2w didn't exist, but it did and it killed what could've been an amazing game.
Back to trying mediocre WoW expansions with friends + playing Dota.
2016 Black Desert Online, I played the beta and loved the game, another KR MMO that just lacked in the pve department (KR really didn't know how to design pve in games). It had a very interesting but confusing combat, very flashy, fast paced, action combat. I liked it but it felt more like I was playing Tekken or Street fighter than an actual MMO. The combat was good on a small scale but on a large scale it was just a mess.
Black Desert Online. Played around 2k hours as a Ranger, I really liked this class (also one of the few that didn't felt like it was going to give me carpal tunnel), that is till they decided to release Awakening and turn a Ranger (bow user character) into a strictly melee character, don't know who came up with this idea but this along with the p2w completely drove me away from the game.
*Pros:
-Innovative action combat.
-Aesthetics and graphics, at this point it was hands down the best looking game.
-A lot of sand box elements, the world felt alive.
-Open world pvp and guild conflicts.
*Cons:
-Little to no Pve elements. Pve was just a zerg fest on bosses. Really bad.
-Horrible gear progression system. Depredatory and gachalike.
-P2W. Pets, costumes, tents, butlers, mounts, you name it.
-Poor design of player housing.
Conclusion: This game was doomed from the get go, the gear progression system was clearly designed around p2w, but if it wasn't because of this and they manage to improve the pve, game would've a good good contender.
Again back to Dota, and the current WoW expansion that my friends were playing.
Tried FF14, couldn't get past lvl 30 twice, it was the worst leveling experience I've had in any game. Tried WildStar. It was ok, never liked the Sci-fi theme, when I got to max lvl and saw what needed to be done to be able to raid I immediately uninstalled the game.
2021 New World. Played the betas, felt the game needed at least 1 year more before releasing. But they still released it and I still played it.
New World. Played for 1.1k hours on steam + w/e I played on the 2 betas I played.
*Pros:
-Immersive open world, exploring felt amazing.
-Fun leveling experience doing constant open world pvp with friends.
-Interesting character design where weapons dictated your character instead of classes.
-Decent take on the UO faction system, opened the possibility for good pvp.
*Cons:
-Combat had too many desyncs and glitches, the game was not nearly finished or polished.
-Every single glitch or bug you can think of, the game was not nearly finished or polished.
-Poor housing system.
-PVE was terrible at the beginning. They improved it nowadays but it is still lacking.
-Game was just not finished, rushed to release, it lacked in every aspect.
Conclusion: While leveling to max lvl, playing with my friends doing pvp, it was really fun and worth the time and money, but after reaching max lvl the game was just a glitch fest and had nothing to offer. It had potential, needed at least 1-2 years to finish the game before releasing.
2022 Lost Ark release. Played with a group of 8-9 friends. We did everything together. It was fun until it felt like a job more than a game.
Lost Ark. 1700 Hours on steam.
*Pros:
-Really good combat, so far my favorite combat of all games I've played.
-Aesthetics character design and looks are top tier as usual in KR games.
-First KR game I’ve played that managed to get pve right. Some of the best designed pve fights I've ever seen.
-Amazing Class design, I love almost every single class in this game.
-Dungeons 4 people, Raids 8 people, a huge plus, really much much easier to gather that amount of friends or competent players rather than the 40-25-20 of WoW.
-Amazing Lore, I really enjoyed and loved the lore in this game.
*Cons:
-The game felt like an 8-6 Job, where you needed to have multiple characters to funnel your 1 or 2 mains. This is a horrible game design.
-Terrible long term item progression, you can't really take a break from the game, because if you do, unless you have deep pockets you ain't catching up.
-Poor mmo elements. The world did not feel alive, nothing really to do outside your daily chaos dungeons + raids. This game like wow retail feels like a Dungeon/Raid Generator instead of an actual MMO.
-No open world pvp.
-Structure pvp had huge class design issues, it was fun, but they just didn't care to balance the game for this.
-P2W AF, p2w in a pve game is just cringe, luckily i had friends to fill an entire raid till we got tired of the game, but I can't imagine playing this game alone and trying to keep up with the p2w whales gatekeeping you from every raid.
-No player housing.
Conclusion: best pve I’ve played in any game, I absolutely loved it, hated everything else of the game, don’t see myself ever re-installing this just to find out I'm never catching up again.
Back to Dota and Classic WoW with friends (not falling for retail wow expansions anymore they are all the same).
Every single MMO lacks in some department. When they get the open world pvp and sand box elements right, they fail to deliver in the pve department, and or add p2w. Any MMO with any form of p2w or p2 convenience is a loss in my book. And when they get the pve right, they completely ignore the sandbox elements and open world pvp, and or add p2w to the game.
Sadly all i can do is try Throne and Liberty (which by the looks of it I won't enjoy because it has p2w but I'll try it anyway), or wait for Ashes of creation if I'm alive by the time it comes out (I'm hoping that I'll be alive, I'm 40 now.)
All of my real life best friends played UO or Lineage with me, so MMO’s are a huge part of me. Sadly, it's been a constant state of disappointments. I do have high hopes for Ashes but at the same time I don't want to keep my hopes up.

2024.05.23 00:27 BlatantDisregard42 Wedding venue canceled contract 90 days before event. Could they be liable for any damages?

TL/DR; we had a wedding venue booked in Michigan and signed a contract over a year ago. One of the venue owners got sick and they had to cancel the reservation with little notice, causing us to delay the wedding by 6 months and pay more money in venue and catering costs. They have not refunded our original deposit and may be trying to pass that obligation on to buyer of their event space. Planning to file a small claims case, but don't know if they're liable for anything other than the un-refunded deposit.
Longer story, not so short. My partner and I had been under contract with this venue for well over a year. Contract was for both the venue and their catering services. About four months out from our wedding, one of the owners started having health problems and they had to cancel the catering. They helped us find a new caterer who worked with us on the price to get close to our original contract (still about $1200 more). A few weeks later (less than a week before our 90 day installment was due) the venue sent an email out saying they were canceling all 2024 events. They did not have any money to pay back deposits at that time, but said would be selling the venue property and would "try" to pay back deposits from the proceeds.
Needless to say, it was slim pickings trying to find any venue with 2024 availability, and non-existant for the weekend of our original date. We eventually found a place that had a few Sundays open late in 2024 and while it was one of the least expensive options we found, it was still a few thousand more. Thankfully the other vendors have all been cool about all of the rescheduling, but our wedding date has now been pushed back by 6 months, we're paying significantly more for the venue and catering costs, and we functionally lost our deposit.
Heard yesterday that they will be counting on their property buyer to pay back deposits, rather than paying them to us directly. Property is under contract, but sale has not been finalized yet, and I'm worried that since we have no contract with the buyer that I'll have no recourse if they choose not to pay us back. We're filing in small claims court this week, before the sale is finalized, hoping that they will be forced to pay us back. I'm sympathetic to the fact that they lost their business in all of this, but also want to make sure we're made whole again if at all possible.
Besides the deposit that we paid them over a year ago, are they potentially liable for any other damages? Court filing costs? Notary fees? The extra $6000 we're spending on venue and catering costs? Reprinting invitations? Pain and suffering (it was a super stressful experience)?
To further complicate things, we live in a different state over 10 hours away by car. We can file the claim online easy enough, but it's not clear whether or not we would have to go to court in person or if they have an virtual option. That would be a significant cost to us in both time and money (barely worth it for the deposit money alone).

2024.05.22 23:52 Hollowknightpro Guide to playing multiplayer on Dark souls Remastered.

Here is a simple Guide to playing co-op, or PVP "Local" multiplayer in DS:R Cracked version.
To start off here are all the files you will need
Alternatively, you can use a Non cracked copy. it will still work the same and you won't need the original steam api
Now here are the steps to getting this to work.
(now at this point I should mention it is always a good Idea to backup original game files just in case before doing this.
  1. With your cracked copy of DS:R download the original steam api from an uncracked version, this can be found on cs.rin as I said earlier
  2. replace the steam api with original Steam Api from the clean version of DS:R
  3. setup goldberg emu to work with DS:R. done by just downloading it and copying the stuff from experimiental_steamclient folder to where the exe is located, copy everything and paste it.
  4. Now edit your cold client loader dll and Edit the appid to 570940 and the exe to Exe=DarkSoulsRemastered.exe (no need to place a directory if the rest of the files are in the same folder as the exe I believe.)
  5. launch the game through the client loader exe. it *SHOULD* work. you also should be able to press shift+tab to open a menu
  6. Now to the final stretch, go to and download and install the mod as per instructions
  7. now, make your freind do all these things for their game aswell
  8. finally, using hamachi both people should connect and make a LAN server basically. this is pretty easy to do.
  9. Lastly, now when launching the game through the client loader and pressing shift tab your freind, who will also have launched the game should be there and right clicking his name and clicking invite will invite him to your world, no humanity needed! (if you do not see his name, make sure the LAN software is working properly, and check if your steam ID's are diffrent or not.)
  10. for pvp, both players need to use the red crystal then join the world and accept invite, and for co-op using the white crystal.
Now I should say there are some quirks to this mod like crashing may be frequent when joining and rejoining worlds many times and other minor issues.
but here is an FAQ for some questions
again this is just a side effect of the mod and not something I can fix.
this is also likely a quirk of the mod so randomly you may be kicked from hosts session. this can be circumvented by just joining the host again. its a quick proccess in the mod
Yes. I beleive as long as both of them are installed on both users pc they should work. but I haven't tested major mods. but minor mods and retextures do work so major ones should too. read the painted world mod page for instructions.
This apparently can be fixed by downloading an older version of the mod. but I didn't have this issue.
Following all these steps with a diffrent mod that allows local multiplayer for PTDE might make it work but I do not know of any mods like this. if you do try them out. or ask me to I will be glad to help!
If you have any further questions or need help just comment on this post I will be availabe to help most of the time, just keep in time timezones. mine is GMT +3

2024.05.22 23:26 Bearman637 Misunderstanding "what" Jesus is distorts how we view God, Humanity and Salvation

Here are some observations about the theological and practical implications of Christological errors. The way we understand the person and work of Christ has profound consequences for our view of God, ourselves, and the nature of salvation.

Errors that Deny the Full Divinity of Jesus

The errors that diminish Christ's divinity, such as Arianism and Adoptionism, tend to emphasize human effort and merit in the process of redemption. If Jesus is not fully God, then his work alone may not be sufficient to save us, and we may need to supplement it with our own righteousness or Jesus merely provided the example of how to achieve salvation for ourselves. This can lead to a legalistic and performance-oriented spirituality, where our standing before God is based on our own achievements rather than Christ's finished work.
Moreover, if Christ is not truly divine, then he cannot fully reveal the character and nature of God to us. The doctrine of perichoresis, or the mutual indwelling of the persons of the Trinity, means that to see the Son is to see the Father (John 14:9). But if the Son is a lesser being, then we cannot truly know the Father through him.

Errors that Deny the Full Humanity of Jesus

On the other hand, the errors that diminish Christ's humanity, such as Apollinarianism and Docetism, can lead to a view of salvation that is disconnected from our actual human condition. If Jesus did not assume a full and true human nature, identical to ours, then he cannot truly identify with us in our weakness and temptation. His victory over sin and death will seem irrelevant to our ongoing struggle with temptation and the world.
These views can foster a kind of pessimism about the human condition, where we are seen as perpetually bound by sin and unable to experience real transformation. Salvation may be viewed as an escape from the body and the material world, rather than the redemption and renewal of the whole person. Eg. "Only at death are we truly freed from sin, untill then sin is inevitable because of our nature"
The orthodox doctrine of Christ, affirmed by the ecumenical councils, holds together both his full divinity and his full humanity in one person. This means that in Christ, God has truly joined himself to human nature, assuming all that we are in order to redeem and transform it. Christ's salvation is not just a legal transaction or an external imputation, but a real participation in his life and a communication of his divine nature to us (2 Peter 1:4).
‭2 Peter 1:3-4 ESV‬ [3] His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, [4] by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
In Christ, we see the fullness of God's character revealed in human form, and we are invited to share in his relationship with the Father through the Spirit. We are also given hope for the full redemption and glorification of our humanity, as we are conformed to the image of Christ.
This highlights the practical and pastoral importance of Christology. Getting this doctrine right is not just a matter of abstract theology, but has concrete implications for our understanding of God, ourselves, and the shape of our expectations of the Christian life.
A Christ who is fully God and fully man, as orthodoxy affirms, is the basis for a gospel that is truly good news - a message of grace, not works; of transformation, not just forgiveness; of the renewal of the whole person, not just the soul. It is a gospel that meets us in our weakness and sin, but does not leave us there. Instead, it lifts us up to participate in the very life of God, through union with Christ by the Spirit (aka theosis).
""The Word of God, our Lord Jesus Christ ... did, through His transcendent love, become what we are, that He might bring us to be even what He is Himself.” - Irenaeus 2nd century bishop, disciple of Polycarp who was a disciple of the apostle John
In the incarnation God the Son took to Himself what we are. At Pentecost God the Spirit was given to us so that we might BE what He is. Perichoresis preserves our distinctives without confusing persons, rather explains the interpenetrating nature of the Spirit with us. Jesus saves us from our sin not merely in our sin and He does this by the Spirit who allows us to participate in the divine nature.
‭Romans 8:2-4 ESV‬ [2] For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. [3] For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, [4] in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
‭2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV‬ [21] For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
‭Revelation 1:5 ESV‬ [5] and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood
‭Matthew 1:21 ESV‬ [21] She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
‭John 17:21-23 ESV‬ [21] that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. [22] The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, [23] I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
‭Romans 8:14, 16-17, 19, 29-30 ESV‬ [14] For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. [16] The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, [17] and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. [19] For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. [29] For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. [30] And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
As athenasius says we are by grace what Christ is by nature. Sons of God and brothers of Christ.

Summary of Common Errors that Deny Jesus' full Divinity

Arianism:
This view, named after Arius of Alexandria, teaches that the Son of God was a created being, and therefore not fully divine. Arians believe that there was a time when the Son did not exist, and that He is subordinate to the Father in essence. This view was condemned at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, which affirmed that the Son is "of the same substance" (homoousios) as the Father.
Semi-Arianism:
This is a variant of Arianism that emerged after the Council of Nicaea. Semi-Arians avoid saying that the Son was created, but still deny His full equality with the Father. They typically affirm that the Son is "of similar substance" (homoiousios) to the Father, but not "of the same substance" (homoousios). This view was also rejected by the Church as a denial of Christ's true divinity.
Adoptionism:
Adoptionists teach that Jesus was a human being who was "adopted" as God's Son at some point in His life, usually at His baptism or resurrection. In this view, Jesus is not inherently divine, but becomes divine by virtue of God's choice. This understanding was rejected by the Church as inconsistent with the clear biblical teaching about Christ's eternal Sonship and pre-existence.
Psilanthropism:
This is an extreme form of adoptionism which holds that Jesus was merely a human being, a righteous man chosen and adopted by God, but not divine in any sense. This view completely denies the incarnation and reduces Jesus to a mere prophet or teacher. It was firmly rejected by the early Church.
Socinianism:
Named after Faustus Socinus, this view emerged in the 16th century and denied the pre-existence of Christ. Socinians taught that Jesus was a human being who was elevated to a kind of divine status because of His perfect obedience, but He is not the eternal Son of God. This view, like other forms of adoptionism, was rejected as a denial of Christ's true divinity.
Subordinationism:
While not denying Christ's divinity outright, subordinationism holds that the Son is eternally subordinate to the Father in terms of authority and even essence. This view, if taken to an extreme, can imply a hierarchy within the Trinity and a diminished divinity of the Son. The Church affirmed the co-equality and co-eternality of the Son with the Father, while recognizing a relational subordination in terms of the Son's role and mission.
These views, in different ways, all fail to affirm the full, eternal, and inherent divinity of Jesus Christ as the Son of God. They were rejected by the Church as incompatible with the biblical witness and the apostolic faith.

Summary of Common Errors that Deny Jesus' full Humanity

Docetism:
This view, which emerged in the early Church, teaches that Jesus only appeared to be human, but did not have a real physical body. Docetists often held that matter was inherently evil, and therefore the divine Christ could not have taken on a material body. They would say that Jesus only seemed to suffer and die, but it was an illusion. The Church firmly rejected this view, affirming the full, physical reality of Christ's incarnation, suffering, and death.
Apollinarianism:
Named after Apollinaris of Laodicea, this view holds that in the incarnation, the divine Logos took the place of the normal human soul or mind in Christ. So Jesus had a human body and a divine mind, but not a complete human nature. This view was condemned at the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD, which affirmed that Christ had a complete human nature, including a rational human soul.
Monophysitism (Eutychianism):
This view, associated with Eutyches, emerged as an overreaction to Nestorianism(the belief that Jesus was 2 persons, one human one divine loosely joined together). Monophysites teach that Christ's human nature was absorbed or swallowed up by His divine nature, resulting in a single, divine nature. This view undermines the completeness of Christ's humanity and was rejected at the Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD, which affirmed that Christ exists in two natures, without confusion, change, division, or separation.
Monothelitism:
This view emerged as a compromise attempt following the Chalcedonian definition. Monothelites taught that although Christ had two natures, He had only one will (thelema), the divine will. This implies that Christ's human nature was not complete, lacking a human will. The Church rejected this view at the Third Council of Constantinople in 681 AD, affirming that Christ had two wills, human and divine, corresponding to His two natures.
Augustinian view of original sin:
Augustine taught that as a result of the fall, human nature itself was corrupted. Original sin, in his view, is a hereditary taint that is transmitted from parents to children. Every person born after Adam (with the exception of Mary in Catholic theology) inherits a nature that is enslaved to sin. If this view is taken to its logical conclusion, it could imply that if Christ assumed a fully human nature, He would have also assumed original sin or that Christ didn't assume a fully human nature, differing from us in His "human" constitution. This is problematic from the perspective of Christ's sinlessness, as it would imply that Christ was a sinner in need of redemption Himself. While Augustine himself affirmed Christ's sinlessness and full humanity, his view of original sin as a corruption of human nature can lead to Christological complications. If original sin is understood as inherent to human nature, then affirming Christ's full humanity becomes problematic without compromising His sinlessness. Christs humanity is then defined as something other than our humanity. Is it really humanity then? Therein is the problem with Augustinian anthropology.
These views, in different ways, fail to affirm the full, complete humanity of Jesus Christ. They either deny the reality of His human nature (Docetism), the completeness of His human nature (Apollinarianism, Monothelitism, Augustinian Original Sin), or they absorb His human nature into His divinity (Monophysitism). Note that Augustine defined Human nature in ways that preclude Christ from participating fully in a humanity identical to us. Its worth stating Augustine held to the full Humanity of Jesus yet how he defined this was constitutionally different to us ie we have a "sin nature" as part of being human, Jesus didn't. This implies, contrary to scripture, Jesus wasn't made like us in every way yet without sin.
‭Hebrews 4:15 ESV‬ [15] For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
If our weakness is "a sin principal" or "sinful nature" embedded in us the above scripture is false.
‭Hebrews 2:17 ESV‬ [17] Therefore he (Jesus) had to be made like his brothers in EVERY respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
Ancestral Sin, the biblical Alternative to Augustines "Original Sin":
The Eastern Orthodox tradition understands original sin not as a hereditary corruption of nature, but as a hereditary condition of mortality and separation from God. In this view, what Christ assumed was not a nature corrupted by sin, but a nature subject to the consequences of sin, such as suffering and death. This understanding preserves Christ's full humanity (since He assumes a nature like ours in every respect), while also preserving His sinlessness (since sin is not inherent to human nature but a result of personal choice and alienation from God). This perspective is more in line with the Eastern Christian understanding of ancestral sin and the Christological consensus of the ecumenical councils. It affirms that Christ is fully human, like us in every respect, yet without sin. His human nature was not inherently corrupted, but it was subject to the weaknesses, limitations, and consequences of the fall, which He fully assumed in order to heal and redeem.

The True Understanding of "what" and "who" Jesus Is

The orthodox Christology, in contrast, affirms that in the incarnation, the eternal Son of God assumed a complete human nature, body and soul. Jesus is fully human, like us in every respect, yet without commiting sin. He had a human body, a human mind, human emotions, and a human will. Only by being fully human could He truly represent us, identify with us, and redeem us.
At the same time, the Church affirms the unity of Christ's person. He is not two persons, but one person in two natures. His humanity and divinity are united in the one person of the Son, without mixture, change, division, or separation. This is the mystery of the hypostatic union, which safeguards both the distinction of the natures and the unity of Christ's person.
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully divine and fully equal with the Father, who assumed a complete human nature in the incarnation. He is one person in two natures, divine and human, without confusion, change, division, or separation.
This understanding safeguards both the true divinity and the true humanity of Christ, which is essential for His role as the mediator between God and humanity and the savior of the world.
Our salvation from sin is through union with God through faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sin and by the indwelling Spirit we participate in His Divine Nature, and produce His fruits of Love and righteousness. Those that abide in love abide in God, obeying all Jesus taught and are far from sin.
This is salvation. We are counted righteous in Christ and practically made loving and righteous here in this world. Right now.
‭1 John 3:3-11 ESV‬ [3] And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. [4] Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. [5] You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. [6] No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. [7] Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. [8] Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. [9] No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. [10] By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. [11] For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

Why This Matters? - The Gospel.

The gospel, at its heart, is the good news that God became fully human in Christ to redeem us from sin and restore us to fellowship with Him. Through Christ's life, death, and resurrection, we are forgiven, transformed, and enabled to participate in the divine life. The truth we must preserve is that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, assumed a full human nature identical to ours, yet without sin. In his incarnation, he united divinity and humanity in his own person, so that through union with him, we might be made partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).
This is not just a future hope, but a present reality. Through faith in Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we are born again (John 3:3) and made new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are called to live out this new life in practical holiness and love, being conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).
Any theology that undermines this central truth - whether by compromising Christ's full divinity (as in Arianism), his full humanity (as in Apollinarianism), or the transformative power of his grace in our lives - must be rejected. The gospel is not just about forgiveness, but about transformation. It's not just about Christ's work for us, but his work in us through the Spirit.
This is why, anthropology (our view of human nature) and hamartiology (our view of sin) matters. If we have a view of human nature or sin that suggests we cannot be truly transformed in this life or that sin is an intrinsic part of our nature, then we undermine the power of the gospel.
Christ assumed our full humanity, died for our sins, and rose again to make us new creatures, partakers of the divine nature. This is the truth we must preserve at all costs. The gospel message, reconciliation with God by faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sin, includes with it the power of God (Holy Spirit) to transform us in the present, to make us like Christ in this life. This is the heart of the matter. Any theology that undermines this, no matter how influential, must be set aside for the sake of preserving this central truth. The goal of theology is not just right belief, but right living - living in accordance with the reality of our new nature in Christ. Anything that hinders this, even if it comes from a figure as significant as Augustine, must be rejected.
God became man so that in Christ, we might become like God - not in essence, but in likeness, being conformed to his image in righteousness and true holiness. This is the marvel of the gospel, and the truth we must uphold at all costs.

2024.05.22 22:26 Beneficial-Lake2756 I’m an Adult

I don’t even know what’s wrong with me.
I am 21(F). I‘m going into my senior year of college and I’ve been basically living on my own since I graduated high school. I go home for some holidays, winter break, and maybe a week in the summer but overall I’m living on my own (school or somewhere else). I would like to think I am an adult.
There are things that make me feel like im not an adult though. I have seizures and started having more last spring. My parents have been helping me with doctors appointments and other things but sometimes it feels like theyre controlling me through that. For example: my aunt and uncle are taking me on a trip this summer and i would have to fly there by myself (which I’ve done before). my dad is worried and kind of doesnt want me to go because I might have a seizure on the plane. they also used to pay for my car insurance (I haven’t been able to drive for a little more than a year because of seizures) and will probably keep paying for it when I drive again. They pay for my phone plan too.
Sometimes im worried if I dont do what they want me to do they will take those away. Im also worried of them judging me and being disappointed in me.
why Im sad right now:
My boyfriend is from another country and wants me to go with him to his parents house this summer. Right now we’re both staying on campus at our college and his parents would come and pick us up and we would go there for a week or two. His parents are ok with this. I talked to my mom and she said:
I dont think going on a family vacation with someone when you’re not married or engaged is a good thing. Thats why we didn’t bring him with us on our spring break trip. Because it’s for family. I wouldn’t even let him come when you’re engaged. I dont think you should go.
we went on a spring break trip with my parents, siblings, my cousin who’s closest to my sister, and my sisters two friends. This also wouldn’t be a “family vacation“ but me visiting his family and his city because Ive only met them and hung out with them once In the winter. I then asked about my car and about why my dad wouldn’t want my boyfriend to drive my car even if im paying for it and she said:
we dont want you to be too close when you arent married. Right now youre living in the same building as him, you cook meals togehter, you spend a lot of time together and the car would basically be like you both sharing or owning something of great value together.
i explained that it wouldn’t be now and that he wouldn’t be sharing or owning it with me. It would be my car and he would just drive it once and awhile, like if we wanted to go get coffee and I didn’t want to drive. I also asked if they would be disappointed or judge me if i did go and she said no. I didn’t really want to believe her and asked how she would feel and she didn’t really have a good answer or that made sense. She tried to get me to understand by asking me what i think her parents (my grandparents) feel when she makes a decision they dont like. I told her that didn’t really make sense because she and my dad are different from them. She then wanted to get someone else to talk with us and I said no.
I tried to talk to my sister (19) later and talk to her about how our parents dont want us to bring even our fiancés to trips with us. My sister said that made sense and I was a bit confused. I asked her what she thought about her friends coming to our trip and she said it made sense that they got to come with since they’re basically family since she and my family have known them for so long. she then said that if i had friends like that she was sure my parents would let them come with. I told her I didn’t really have that opportunity and she got kinda weird. For context: we moved a lot when I was younger. I had a really good friend from 4th-6th grade that I tried to stay in touch with as much as a 6th grader could until 8th grade. we moved after 6th grade and I had a hard time making friends because I didn’t fit in with anyone. We moved again after that and I was homeschooled in 8th grade. We moved to the same town my cousins are from and i made a few friends. My sister was able to make more because she had one of our female cousins who is her age to introduce her to people. I didn’t really fit in all of high school and didn’t really get the opportunity to make good friends. My one closest friend came out to me as trans a few years ago and we also drifted apart after high school. My sister told me that I did have the opportunity to make close friends like her, I just didn’t take it. we got into an argument because I dont really think I did. The people I was friends with 8th-10th grade didn’t care about me, never invited me places, and never took my invitations. Even the people I tried to talk to weren’t really interested in talking to me because I was kind of weird and my dad was a youth pastor. 11th-12th grade I was homeschooled but still did things at school. I had a pretty close friend and was friends with her friends but again was never invited to do things.
My closest friends now are those I made in college. These would never be invited to a family vacation because they never had the opportunity to become “like family” and hang out with my family the way my sisters friends of 8 years have. I ended up walking away from the conversation because I was upset at my sister for not trying to understand what I was saying and basically thought I just said “my boyfriend should be priority over your friend of 8 years.” She also continued to say that I had lots of opportunities to make close friends In high school.
i dont know what to do about either situation. I want to go with my boyfriend and his family so I can get to know them more. By the time we would go my boyfriend and I will have been dating for almost a year. I would like to get to know his family more and take their hospitality and kindness in wanting to get to know me Since my family hasnt been doing that. both of our intentions are marriage but we haven’t gotten engaged or married yet since wed like to finish college first. All of this makes me wonder if im not ready and if im too immature to get married.

2024.05.22 21:39 Pasdeshat The part of my leaving that didn’t make the podcast-

Every narcissist has an enabler. Jeremy (J’s husband) is that for Julianna. Here is just one of the many times he had a negative affect on my relationship with the company.
The spring of my last season we went on tour, performing in NYC, Philly, and Connecticut. Because we were on the east coast, I made a suggestion regarding transportation to Julianna’s husband Jeremy, who often came on tour with us to help with stage crew. We we’re staying at Lauren’s family’s house in north jersey- they had generously donated so much for the tour as family members often did. One day we were going to take the train from NJ to Brooklyn, and Lauren and I thought based on our knowledge of the area that it would be more cost effective and less exhausting to drive, I looked it up and that was the case, so I mentioned that to Jeremy. I thought of Jeremy- a former youth pastor- as a compassionate person, and someone who understood me and respected me, as he and I often worked together building props and sets for the various ballets. Apparently he did not understand that my advice was from a completely innocent place, and he told his wife. This became a huge thing, because I did not “respect the tour plans that had already been made.” Two weeks later I was not cast in the next tour weekend. When I asked why, I was told it was because they thought i was tired and needed rest. Two weeks after that, during my end of season review, Julianna told me that they had learned through prayer that my “time with the company was coming to a close.” I was shocked. I had seriously been thinking I would be promoted. I knew there was tension between us after the New York debacle, but I thought Jdog would cool down and act like it never happened. But instead they decided to dump me without any warning besides the final tour casting- I had not received any feedback about my work as a dancer that hinted at anything like this. I was devastated- it felt like I was being abandoned in the same way that my family was abandoning me because of my wedding.
Julianna continued to make my life a living hell for the following few months leading up to my wedding, by doing things like harassing me about props being finished on time (they were) while I was on a mission to steal my birth certificate from my parents who didn’t want to give it to me so I could get a marriage license. She had already stopped trusting me as a teacher because I had stuck up for the trainees or mentored them too kindly over the years so I wasn’t teaching much, but I was working on a piece I choreographed for the end of season school show, and at one point she burst into my class and “strongly urged” me to replace one of the trainees she had a personal vendetta against with a very young dancer from the school. I was insulted for the trainee who had been doing a great job in my choreography and though I blacked out the memory of this, I stuck up for her. This former student of mine told me this recently in a zoom call back in December- I hadn’t remembered this incident at all. Julianna’s most heinous offense to me was when she scheduled a performance at the time of my wedding and made some of my friends work at it. I had invited julianna to the wedding and had given her notice of the date 7 months in advance. Though I understand she had an evening performance in mind for that date, she could’ve easily scheduled the summer intensive student showcase- a very low stakes show, in the morning instead. She never RSVP’d to my wedding. In August of 2017, I got married and I finally became free of Ballet 5:8. Julianna made it as difficult as she could for me to move on by making sure not to send me any video footage that I requested to use to audition for other dance companies. When a friend tried to share a video of my dancing with me that was on the ballet 5;8 google drive, Julianna quickly sent an email to us about not stealing company property. I saw Julianna at my friends wedding in September of 2017 for the last time. She was awkward and avoidant. I felt power over her and spoke with Jeremy and their son. J said nothing to me.
Thanks for reading more of my tale. Feel free to share your Jeremy incidents in the comments.

2024.05.22 18:50 Private_Information1 How should I approach my DJ background?

Our DJ dropped out. Our planner (who is a great friend) reccomended another DJ. However, we just found out he’s a pastor.
We are actively and intentionally avoiding religion at our wedding (to each their own)…
We are also progressive, and most of our wedding party and close friends are part of the LGBTQ+ community. (We have a trans bridesmaid, and our officiant is a man in a long term committed relationship with one of our groomsmen).
We want to find a kind and respectful way to see if he’s going to be the right fit or not. Plenty of our friends are Christian and also loving, accepting, and progressive.
How does this sound?
“Hello ——, this is ——-, ——- connected us regarding our wedding in October. Thank you so much for being willing to celebrate with us!
I am so appreciative of the offer, and just wanted to touch base to make sure it’s the right fit. We are going to be having a fairly progressive wedding, and we are choosing to intentionally withhold any conversations of religion. We will have friends / family across a wide spectrum (atheist, agnostic, chrisitan, Jewish, Buddhist, etc)..
We don’t want anybody to feel isolated, so we are not doing any songs related to religion and are intentionally not praying publicly.
We will invite our friends to celebrate with us privately as they see fit.
We will also have a lot of wedding guests in attendance who are part of the LGBTQ+ community, including our gay and trans friends. This includes our wedding party and officiant.
If this isn’t your jam, we completely understand, but wanted to make sure we were all well aligned and on the same page so we aren’t asking you to go outside your comfort zone.
Let me know your thoughts!”
Too long? Too harsh?

2024.05.22 18:42 throwaway_4thwatch Why you shouldn't enroll your kids to this school. And for those who are currently studying in this school, please read this.

Why you shouldn't enroll your kids to this school. And for those who are currently studying in this school, please read this.

“You’re Daredevil, aren’t you?” Clint whispered. “What are you doing here?”
“Dealing with the Goblins, of course,” Daredevil replied. His voice was a low grumble that sounded like a subway train in motion. “Doesn’t seem like anybody else is handling it.”
Clint swallowed. Daredevil had a reputation for getting people around him killed, and he didn’t want to be next on the list... but it still seemed like his survival was more likely going with Daredevil than staying tied up in the Goblin hideout.
“Follow me,” Daredevil whispered.
Clint’s eyes scanned the shadows in front of him. He could vaguely make out where Daredevil was, since he knew where his voice was coming from... but then, he vanished.
Clint stumbled forwards on hands and knees in the direction that Daredevil had been. He looked all around him; without Daredevil’s voice, he felt like it was impossible to track him.
Luckily enough for him, the voice did return in the form of a deep, disappointed sigh. It made Clint feel like a boy disappointing his father.
He wondered if Daredevil had a child. He was definitely old enough.
“What’s the issue?”
“It’s... it’s really dark,” Clint muttered. He supposed that Daredevil wouldn’t be able to distinguish the level of light, so he couldn’t really blame him. “I can’t see you.”
“Then take my hand.”
A hand covered in a red glove extended through the darkness before him, and Clint took it. The two snuck through the darkness for a few feet before Daredevil stopped in front of Clint.
“I’m going to open this door. If we’re lucky, we’ll be able to sneak by without anybody seeing us. That’s how I made it in here. If we’re unlucky, though – which seems more likely – we’ll have to fight our way out. You’re Hawkeye, yes? You know how to fight.”
“I do,” Clint replied.
“Then ready yourself.”
“Wait,” Clint raised a hand. “Can I stretch for a bit first? I’ve been tied up for hours.”
“Go ahead,” Daredevil said.
Clint stepped back and started going through his standard warm-up. He could feel Daredevil watching him silently as he did so.
He couldn’t take the silence anymore. “You know, I’m surprised you’re still doing this after everything that went down with Kingpin.”
Daredevil’s response was blunt. “People in New York are still being victimized. I’m still here.”
“Right, but… athletes retire at like 40, you know? And we’re basically athletes, in how physical this all is.”
His voice softened somewhat. “It does hurt sometimes. But I still feel like I’m doing more good than not, so I still have to put myself out there.”
“So you have a responsibility as long as you’re still making a difference? I guess that makes sense, as hard as it must be for you.”
Clint finished his stretching, and smirked at Daredevil, starting to walk towards him. “I’m ready.”
“I’m over here,” Matt said. “Let’s go.”
Clint swerved to approach Matt’s actual location and nodded. “Let’s do this.”

Kate Bishop had her fair share of visiting weird gang hideouts, ranging from a penthouse in the Upper East Side to an abandoned factory outside the city, and even a circus tent run by an insane ringmaster and his merry band of criminals robbing people blind.
Of course, from a group calling themselves the Goblin Nation, you would expect a perfect hiding spot very fitting for such a batshit insane group, even if it was a little bit typical.
“Goblins in the sewers, real original,” Kate said as she walked through the narrow halls of the dirty NYC sewer system, using a glow stick as light. Her boots scraped on the disgusting surface, and her hand touched the walls that most definitely hadn’t been cleaned since the '90s. “Who would have thought the place everyone’s shit ends up would be a good place to hide from everyone…”
She stepped on a puddle of dirty water, and Kate groaned in frustration, muttering that she was wearing her favorite boots.
“It is the perfect hiding spot,” Bobbi Morse, Mockingbird, made a note as she walked ahead of the young archer. She focused on the mechanical wristband on her arms, which showed a holographic sewer system map instead of the environment around her. “Gangs throughout the years used the sewer system to hide from authorities. It's vast, and it's easy to get lost if you don’t know the way or have a map at hand.”
Bobbi raised her wristwatch, a state-of-the-art piece of SHIELD technology that tracked down agents with trackers implanted in them, which was a necessary procedure for all field agents. Clint Barton, one of their top agents, had an active tracker on him in case of an emergency, making it easier to track him instead of covering the New York sewer system.
“So SHIELD isn’t sending the cavalry?” Kate asked, and Bobbi turned to face her. “I mean, it's been hours already, and I am not seeing any SHIELD helicopters or army coming in to stop this… well… except you.”
“I am here to make sure Agent Barton is safe and sound,” Bobbi answered, a bit too formally. “This war between Hammerhead and Hobgoblin is a local issue for SHIELD..”
The young archer scoffed. “What? Big Brother expects the NYPD to handle the Maggia and Goblins with their firepower?” Kate asked, finding the reasoning behind SHIELD’s lack of involvement in this war stupid.
“I am not arguing with you about how bad of a decision SHIELD made; I am just stating that they ordered us to stay in HQ,” Bobbi said, turning forward. “Right now, we can hope the NYPD, Spider-Man, and whoever is defending the city can make sure it doesn’t go too far. Until then, we find Clint, make sure he is fine, and I’ll kick his ass.”
Kate smiled; Bobbi wasn’t a stuck-up SHIELD agent like the others she had met. She clearly cared a lot about Clint a lot to forgo following orders, even if it meant they’d get into trouble for taking any part in the Maggia/Goblin War.
The duo continued to walk forward, the dark areas being lightened thanks to Kate’s glow stick, and Bobbi guiding the way through their tracker.
“I swear… I’ve seen that pipe from before…” Kate spoke up after a few minutes of walking around. “It feels like we are walking in circles…”
Bobbi’s brows furrowed, staring at the map. Clint’s tracker was still in the same place, and they were nowhere near to it no matter which direction they took. Looking to the side, she stared at the wall and studied it closely.
“Behind that wall…” Bobbi muttered, then looked back at the map. “There is something hidden behind the wall-”
“Shut up.”
Kate’s tone took Bobbi aback.
“Excuse me-”
Using her bow, Kate pushed Bobbi to a nearby wall, leaning into it as she stared into the darkness at the end of the hallway.
“I saw light…” Kate whispered, turning the glow stick off and sending the entire hallway into darkness. “And they don’t look like fireflies…”
Bobbi’s eyes widened and she leaned closer to the wall when she heard voices coming from the dark tunnel. “You can see that far?” Bobbi asked. Kate wasn’t wearing any kind of enhancement goggles to pick out anyone at a distance, she just did with her natural ability. Bobbi was impressed.
“Yeah, I saw a flashlight turn on and off,” Kate said, keeping her eyes on the entryway. Her hands reached for the arrows that were on her back. “What’s the plan?”
She put on her orange-tinted glasses and activated her night vision. Turning to Kate, she whispered carefully, “Follow my lead…” Bobbi grabbed Kate by the hand, and the two disappeared behind the darkness just as a group of Goblin followers entered the hallway.
“Hey, are you sure you heard someone?” A Goblin asked his fellow, holding a flashlight and searching around. “I don’t see anyone here.”
“We can’t see jackshit here,” another voice interjected.
“I could have sworn I heard a woman’s voice just a minute ago,” a third Goblin noted, looking around the hallway and using a flashlight to check. “Must’ve been the wind or something…”
“Guess that’s a false alarm,” The leading Goblin walked ahead. “Come on, let’s head back. Hobgoblin will probably return soon after he kills the Spider, so we should finish asking that purple guy what he knows and prepare for the grand finale.”
The Goblin Nation continued their march, going further into the darkness until they were nothing but a speck of light before disappearing. Exiting out of their hiding spot, Bobbi and Kate, focused on where the Goblins disappeared and made an important conclusion.
“There is a secret door.”
Kate activated another glow stick, lighting the hallway. “That explains why we are walking in circles.”
The two headed toward where the Goblins disappeared, and they stood in front of a wall that looked different from the others: less old and run down and more… clean.
Checking for anything odd, Bobbi pressed on the weak tile and realized it could be pushed up. Gently, she raised it and found herself staring at a control panel. It looked to be recently installed, put together with technology from Alchemax judging from its markings that Bobbi recognized, and it could take either a fingerprint scan or a password, neither of which the two had.
“Is that?”
“Yeah,” Bobbi opened her wristwatch and began to hack through the system. “We found the Goblin hideout, and it's behind this wall.”
*************************************************************
Stark Tower appeared at a distance after Danny Rand and Luke Cage turned the corner. The tall structure stood in all its glory in the middle of the chaos around New York City, the name STARK INDUSTRIES blaring in bright red, shining like a Christmas light.
“Those were some slick moves you did, Danny,” Luke noted, his jacket riddled with bullet holes after acting as a shield for his partner. They had stopped a couple of Maggia/Goblins fights along the way, saving the civilians caught in the crossfire. The duo proved to have quite the chemistry, with Luke using his body as a shield and Danny dispatching them quickly with his martial arts. “You learned them in a Dojo somewhere?” he asked, curious.
“I was trained in K’un Lun by Lei-Kung the Thunderer,” Danny answered, fixing his mask over his head. He surveyed the streets in case of another gang attack or someone needing their help. “He’s why I was able to face and defeat Shou-Lao the Undying Dragon and received the powers to become the Immortal Iron Fist.”
“Wait… you got your powers through fighting someone calling themselves a dragon? Or you fought an actual dragon?” Luke asked, taken aback by Danny’s revelation.
Danny raised an eyebrow, staring at Luke like he was insane. “No, they are an actual immortal dragon. Every Iron Fist must defeat him to earn the title and to be K’un Lun’s champion.”
Luke stared at Danny for a few minutes as they walked through the streets, trying to understand what he just said. He heard stories of people getting their powers by accident or through experimentation, like him, or born with powers like the mutants. But earning it through fighting a dragon? Either Danny was smoking something, or the world was much bigger than Luke thought.
“After all this is done, remind me to invite you over for drinks, Danny,” Luke said, accepting Danny’s explanation even if it sounded ridiculous. The young man didn’t seem the kind to lie and had earned himself a bit of trust from the bulletproof man. “Because that sounds like a hell of a story.”
The two reached Stark Tower; as they suspected, the battle reached even outside Stark’s ivory tower. SUVs belonging to the Maggia were parked outside, doors wide open. In front of the entrance, dead Stark Industries security were lying on the ground. Military-grade bullets had pierced through their body armor like they were paper.
“Maggia…” Danny muttered, checking if there were any survivors and found none. “All dead…”
“Judging from the number of SUVs, Hammerhead sent an army to steal Stark tech,” Luke walked closer to the entrance and noticed that it had been broken, with someone throwing an NYPD car into it. “And they brought in someone heavy.”
Screams came from the lobby, and the two sprung into action, Iron Fist being the first in, with Luke following behind him, trying to keep up with the smaller and faster martial artist. Entering through the opening, the duo saw some Maggia grunts pushing Stark employees into following them, possibly keeping them as hostages.
“Hey!” Iron Fist shouted for the Maggia’s attention. “If you want to bully people, pick on someone your own size!”
“The fuck?!” One Maggia grunt walked forward and aimed his rifle. “That’s the bastard who beat up the guys in Chinatown!”
“Waste him!” Another shouted, and he, along with the other Maggias, let go of their hostages and aimed their weapons upon the vigilante, firing a wide volley of bullets that would shred through any man like paper.
But Luke Cage, just in time, stood in front of Danny to block all incoming bullets. Thanks to his enhanced skin and durability, they all bounced off his skin. As the dust settled, the Maggia stared in shock at Luke, standing tall and unaffected, only to see they had ruined his new set of clothes.
“Holy shit… he is bulletproof!” A mobster said in horror. “HE IS FUCKING BULLETPROOF!”
“You boys owe me some new clothes,” Luke said, staring them down. “Tell Hammerhead I’ll send a receipt after he gets sent to jail.”
Before the Maggia could react, from behind Luke, Iron Fist managed to cut the distance like a blur and deliver a fast front kick at the nearest mobster straight to his face, breaking his nose and sending him flying back to his fellow Maggia.
“Someone call the guys inside!” a Maggia shouted. “We got a fucking problem!-” He couldn’t finish his sentence as Danny punched him in the jaw, knocking him cold.
“Take care of the hostages, Power Man!” Danny shouted, dodging another Maggia who tried to take a swing at him, and he responded by smashing his elbow into his face.
“And you take care of these lowlifes, Iron Fist,” Luke said back, walking forward and using his body to block more gunfire from the Maggia; he even grabbed a few of their weapons to crush them together, turning them into tinfoil. He turned to the hostages and asked them, “You guys have anywhere safe here to hide out?”
“Mr Stark set up a room for employees in case of an emergency,” one Stark employee said, keeping their head down from the gunfight around them. “He set it up after the flood!”
“Take everyone and head there. Don’t open it until the cops or Stark returns from whatever holiday he is on,” Luke said, using his body to shield the hostages as they ran toward safety.
The duo continued with their approach, with Luke using his body as a shield to cover Danny’s blind spots and to protect any hostages and employees caught in the crossfire they saw on the way. While Danny’s fighting skills and speed helped in quickly dispatching the army of Maggia sent by Hammerhead, even without his powers, the Immortal Iron Fist’s fighting prowess was still world-class.
Knocking out the last mobster, Danny and Luke looked at their surroundings and noted that the floor was clear of Maggia. Nearly fifty or so of them were all knocked out and scattered throughout the destroyed floor during the battle, from broken windows and wrecked furniture to the sculpture of the Stark Industries logo, completely torn apart.
“Tony won’t be happy with all this mess when he gets back.” Danny noted, staring at the logo.
“He can manage,” Luke searched for any Stark Employee still on the floor. “Fixing this is cheaper than those suits of armor he regularly pumps out-”
Luke stopped speaking when he felt a slight shake underneath his feet. The broken glass and bullet casings shook, and he realized it was caused by someone walking, getting stronger and louder the closer it came to them.
“Hammerhead really needs to invest in better fodder…” a voice spoke out from the shadows, and the two men tensed up. “Told that big-headed bastard this was a useless job… but he’s too focused on the Fantomguy to really care...”
Stepping out from the shadow was Joanna Cargill, aka Frenzy, clothes covered with bullet holes and without any wounds.
“Frenzy…” Danny said in a low tone. Luke noted the nervousness behind his voice, which made the former convict wary. This was the same man who had just taken down an army of heavily armed Maggia without a hint of fear, but his entire personality shifted when this woman appeared.
“Ready for another round, golden fist?” Frenzy taunted, taking another step forward. The two felt the ground shake. She turned her sights on Luke Cage and smiled. “And you brought a friend too. What? Was I too much to handle last time?”
“You’re the mutant.” Luke realized this was the woman who mopped the floor with Danny. “Hammerhead’s Enforcer.”
Frenzy’s mouth twitched, not happy with the nickname she had earned. “Don’t worry,” Frenzy addressed Luke, looking the man up and down, studying him and looking impressed. “You look like you can handle me better than Golden Boy here.”
Danny stepped forward, standing in front of Luke. “Luke, focus on getting everyone out of here,” He palmed his fist, taking a deep breath as he tried to activate the Iron Fist, but nothing came. “I’ll handle her.”
Luke wanted to protest. Hearing Danny’s explanation about Frenzy’s powers, he was lucky to have survived; going at it again would mean instant death. But with a look in Danny’s determined eyes, the former convict quickly understood what Danny wanted to do: get his confidence and his powers back. The only way to do that was to take on Hammerhead’s powerhouse mutant.
Frenzy clicked her tongue when Luke stepped back and turned his attention to nearby Stark employees, getting them to safety. “Really wanted to see him take me on,” she took a stance, ready for a fight. “Let’s see if you can light up that fist again.”
Without another word, the two charged at each other, starting their second round.
