I’m a fulfillment TM, and my BF is a TL. I was picking today, and grabbed a pair of cat and jack shoes for a ship order that was my boyfriend’s name (a super uncommon first name). Do they name the shoes after team members, or are they just random they find and it’s just the wildest coincidence?

For the record. I'm only doing this to open a dialogue and make anyone who reads this realize that your time is better spent on better books.
As a straight man, some people feel that its confusing that I have actually read this. Well, its a long story. Ill make it short, by the fact that a girl that I linked up with on bumble wanted me tor read it, so we have more things to talk about. I shortly dropped her because of her poor taste. I only read the first two books, because of the reasons I will state bellow.
When you hear a story go down, you expect certain things from it. People being believable and having a purpose beyond driving the plot foreword. You expect that the characters be people that you might just be able to find in real life. Like in Seinfeld, you would expect to see a Jerry or a Kramer or two in your day to day. But in our flavor of the week, that's not the case. Characters are given names and sometimes dialogue in the book, without any further characterization. Allen, for instance. He is Charlies friend and yet, inspire of being his friend and someone that he trusted enough to talk about Nick with, he only shows up at the tail end of the first book in the foot notes. Furthermore, Tao has barely any personality to him, besides being skeptical and protective. It feels like he has the makings of a piece of cardboard. This character was shown to be Charlies only few friends that helped him when he was accidentally outed and it feels like we never see anything beyond that. Its like Alice Oseman just forgot about this guy, this character who at first seams so important to the lore of this story, but we get no characterization in him. He only exists to act as an overtly easy challenge for Nick to participate in for the sake of making it look like somethings happening in this book. Speaking of the guy, Nicks rugby friends although named have no characterization about them, aside from being tools to tell the audience that people are getting suspicious of his preferences. There's three whole guys that have names and are said to be his friends, but are never elaborated on in the slightest. They could have gone on as unnamed background elements that were mentioned in passing, but for no reason in particular, they are named and were just supposed to infer that they are their own people with nothing but being told what their names are and what their relations are to the main characters. These people are no more characterized than a simple background character. Most of these people only exist to prop up or put down the main characters to make them feel more full. How do you expect a story to be supported by characters who are barely characterized themselves?
To go further into my last point. Id like to draw from a famous quote by Vince McMahon: "The hero's may sell the seats, but the villains drive the plot". Case and point. Ben Hope and Harry Greene are badly written antagonists. I want you to ask yourself about Ben; What are his motives, why does he manipulate the weak and act as though he is strong, what is his end goal that he strives for? These are questions that are never fully answered, because the most we see of ol' Benny is about maybe 20% of the first book, give or take. Like, seriously. This guy who is said to have such a negative impact on Charlies life is never mentioned in the second book. Like he never existed in the first place. And honestly, I don't see why he ever needed to get named if he never has any greater impact as an antagonist. What about his reputation that he tried to uphold by only committing his acts in secret? What about his upbringing that lead to him wanting to keep his identity a secret? These reasons and motives are never elaborated and our main bad guy is never given a proper reason for why he is the villain. Harry Greene on the other hand is somewhat plausible as for why he is a villain. Just some popular and wealth fellow on the local rugby team, a perfect archetype for a character in a modern setting, one problem: He's completely one dimensional, as in there's no greater insight into his life spare the one time he comes on panel to say some homophobic stuff and have that be enough to have him be the antagonist. What about his rise to popularity? No one gets popular out of just punching down, popular people are supposed to be charismatic and somewhat likeable people. There's none of that here. There's no reason for why Harry to be logically as popular as he is. It feels like hes just a template of a popular jock type kid without any explanation for why he's the way he is. Why tell a story where the antagonists or obstacles are not a problem? What is the reason why you must tell a story, if your characters don't overcome some challenge in their lives?
The first things we see are the main characters. Nick and Charlie. They're even on the cover page of the books. You would think that these are characters who naturally overcome their own problems, and the story follows them as they grow to overcome their own challenges alongside their strengths and weaknesses. However this is not the case. There are no weaknesses that add to characterization. Both of these main characters are nigh perfect in mind and body. Excelling academically and physically. Its occasionally flexed outright and brought up in the background of some panels that both of them are generally strong and smart, if not some other positive trait. There are no scenes where they have negative traits shown. I decided to look up what exactly were Nick and Charlies negative traits and the only one that came back was that Charlie was anorexic. Well shucks. That would have made for great character development if he was actually shown to be underweight and throughout the story he grew past his problems out of a want of self improvement. But no. This is never even mentioned and in fact its actually a positive thing as he's one of the fastest runners in his school. This caught me off guard when I went to take chicken out of the fridge and I had an icebox moment: being anorexic doesn't make you have good cardiovascular endurance. I used to be 49kg at 177cm. I dont ever remember running for any longer than half a kilometer before feeling like my legs were going to collapse. But when I grew up to 65kg I could easily do 2km. So whats going on here? It feels like Alice Oseman couldn't give these guys any sort of bad traits. Even Nick. The one flaw with him is that he's bashful of his identity. This is never treated as a flaw and even when he comes out he's accepted. Its like no harm ever truly befalls these two when they're together. It would have been good writing to see them overcome challenges together instead of seeing them steamroll every molehill sized obstacle in their way. Instead we just see them constantly make out with each other. Every five pages or so is just them just eating each others face. It feels unearned and like some flashy smut. Wheres the scenes where they stress about normal things that normal folks stress about, like; work, money, higher education and a general strive to fit into society. I think that that would have been more interesting to see them overcome these problems as a team than just seeing them fool around for half the book. Like seriously, what actually happens in this book? The whole two conflicts in this book [Ben and Harry] are just a matter of communication and cutting ties, respectively. You'd think that the two of our main characters would have a tough time as these bogeys try and make hell of their lives, but the book rarely touches on this. There is no visible growth to the problems that they face and by the end of the book it feels like we've been seeing two dolls being shoved together and told to kiss.
With all that said. How could this book, with all of its weak plot lines, flat characters and shoddy story be so popular? How did it get like this? The LGBT community is a strong group in my eyes of smart and witty people. How is this book that is basically just English yaoi so popular and esteemed? In business, there's a term called "voting with your feet" coined in the 50s by an economist. Basically, its when the people make change by not buying a product causing the product to change or grow to the consumer. If thats the case, why is a book with no plot this popular. There's no just reason for actual authors, actual writers who put time and effort into their books and comics to get snubbed in favor of this trash. There could be a writer out there, maybe even reading this post right now with a book out there that's a perfect romance, with lifelike flaws and strengths that make you want to root for their cause. There could be a writer out there just trying to get his book published, but he cant because its not profitable enough, because the standard has been lowered to "follow the leader" and just write what is essentially smut. Its books like these that really bring everyone else down and are the reason why there are homophobic people today.
In short. The Heartsopper books be a bunch of books that have; no plot, no realistic characters, one sided protagonists/ antagonists and barely a story arc. 0/5 stars, go back to the drawing board. Making one of the most simple and derivative works on earth and 66 million £ are earned from it while real writing falls by the wayside.

7th: Ami Cusack 1.0 (Vanuatu - 6th)

Ami is easily one of the best villains the show has ever seen, and her time on Vanuatu is super important. From the swap to the final 8, she practically controls the entire game, seeming to be unstoppable. Her strategy and charm make her super entertaining to watch, but her downfall is just as good at the hands of Scout and Twila. Easily one of the best characters in Vanuatu, so happy she made endgame.

I don’t think I can even do a small little short write-up like this on Ami and give her the justice she deserves. She is in contention for being the most complex character of all time, with her balancing out being probably one of the most empathetic people Survivor has ever cast while simultaneously playing one of the most ice-cold games the show has ever seen. Ami’s ability to turn off her heart and completely snow someone in the most ruthless way possible is second to nobody.
There is something truly beautiful watching this force grow and develop into the de facto leader of the Yasur all women’s tribe and become essentially a Queen that ended up taking herself out of the game; her biggest mistake ended up being a brief, fleeting moment of empathy that she had never displayed prior, and it makes all the more impactful to see that of all things lead to her end. Combine that with the grandness of Leann’s blindside the round prior to her own and Scout’s voting confessional for her, and you essentially are left with possibly the most dynamic vote-out in Survivor history, bar none.
My Dad is someone who barely remembers any Survivor seasons after they finish airing, but Vanuatu is one of the few he remembers. And while it probably helps that both my Mom and I are obsessed with the season, it probably also is mainly because of Ami, who just struck a real deep image in him as probably one of the most intimidating villains the show has ever produced. I think that’s probably my biggest takeaway regarding her and why she feels so important to me; if you watched Vanuatu, you should just simply know how amazing she is. God, how in the literal fuck is someone like her not even the best character on her season? Vanuatu truly is one of the most top-heavy, blessed seasons the show has ever produced.

Ami’s the Ice Queen! Her leadership role on Vanuatu is just perfect, and her downfall at the hands of Chris, Twila, Eliza, and Scout is told so eloquently that you don’t hate Ami but you also understand why she’s being voted out. Now is Ami the most entertaining presence? No, but her role and story is just something not replicated by anybody else ever and it just makes it something so special.

What can I say about Ami that isn't going to be said already? As much as I hate the term with how often it's used for almost every survivor woman, Ami really the mother of Yasur, as she cares about all the women on it, showing her more caring side, but she can also show her claws when the men show up, ready to take them out as well. However, it's that personality and clashes with the other women that lead to her downfall, and it's overall a more unique and interesting villain story compared to others.

Ami Cusack (Vanuatu, 6/18)
One of my favorite pieces of symbolism that occurs in Vanuatu is the motif of Ami stabbing coconuts with a pike. How can a story get any more perfect than that? And just like Bubba, just like Lisa, just like Rory, just like Sarge, just like Chad… each person gets their coconut on the pike. One at a time, one is frozen, iced out, and taken to the curb. The ruthless gameplay of Ami instantly becomes a classic aspect of her character. But, it’s the contexts behind her character that lead her to be such an exquisite character. One is her abundant feminism on the season, and how she advocates so hard for women's power, only to be destroyed by the existing fractures of the Yasur tribe. One is her kind-hearted soul, as we see countless times throughout the season, perfectly contradicting her ruthless nature. One is her brother watching over her, which leads to her vitriolic reaction against Twila swearing on her son’s life. One is her being the first lesbian (tied only with Scout) in the series who makes it to the stage where she can have a loved one run out to see her. The culmination of these character traits leads to a character that quickly becomes a legend, with some of the most intense complexity the show has ever seen, and much-needed representation the show needed.
Ami’s story on Vanuatu is a beautiful crescendo that depicts a rise to power and a fall from grace. Ami was in good on the tribe, had maintained a fantastic position, and was the mafia boss in the game, threatened by anyone who said her name, and eliminated thereby after. But the morality of Ami is what makes her so interesting. Ami is driven and determined, but her heart of gold shines through constantly. Her competitive streak came out on Survivor, but through her relationships, personal contexts, and incredible characterization, we get one of the most interesting villains in the history of the show and someone with a downfall that feels earned. It’s tragic, the way she’s eliminated, but the cockiness and arrogance she gets are incredible.
Undeniably, Ami’s story is wrapped around the concept of gender in Survivor. Her most important confessional explaining this fact is also her first confessional. At the ceremony at the beginning of the season, the women are put aside while the men are celebrated. Ami then states that she is not used to being put behind a man. At this point, the switch in Ami is already turned, and when the tribes are confirmed to be separated, Ami becomes a leading voice for feminism and keeps them together until the end. Adamant to create and maintain the first stable all-girls alliance, Ami’s determination becomes clear.
Even at the beginning, Ami is understood to be the one around camp, celebrating their gender, rather than tearing it down. She’s the leading voice against the men and beating them at the challenges. She is expressive toward Twila’s behavior on camp and becomes defensive when Twila states that she does not respect women who go around camp and just play with their hair all day (ask for your hair to be French braided!). She’s the first person to run up to Dolly when she breaks down. At first, during the pre-swap, Ami’s behavior is streamlined to supporting the women in the tribe, even if the cracks are already formulating quickly in the Yasur tribe, whether it is the division of women from young (+ Lisa) vs. old, or Twila and Mia’s behaviors further separating the two groups.
Preswap Ami shows her morals in the game - she deeply wants an all-women’s alliance to work, and there are clear good motivations for why she wants it to - it has never happened on Survivor from that point, and the culture expressed early by the Vanuatuans in the island made her volcano erupt and her determination set ablaze.
However, Ami’s motivations quickly begin to change, and that’s the moment that she comes into contact with the men. Yasur 2.0 has some new additions to the tribe, seen with Rory and Bubba, and that’s when Ami’s vitriol and desire to keep the women together becomes more harsh and unwelcoming than previously. Let’s start with Bubba and his ousting. Throughout the game, Bubba has been described as someone who is a well-meaning man who is out there for one reason - his family. His character is proven constantly to be a positive attribute of the tribe, and Lopevi 2.0 would have been shocked if it was him over Rory. But the issue is that Bubba gave a signal to Chris, leading to his spiral in the game.
Ami, at this point, is livid, and this is the most aggressive that we’ve seen her in the game. Immediately, the moniker “ice queen” becomes evident because after Bubba does that, there is 0 hope for him to reenter the good graces in Ami’s game. Ami doesn’t even need the extra 8 hours after the challenge to mull over the vote - it’s Bubba, full stop, and she doesn’t really have to do any more convincing. A man was going to go home anyway, so why even bother changing the vote around all day? Bubba’s boot represents the potential threat of the men making their leeway in the game, and the moment that signal goes off is when Ami gets lit up and she begins to play individually, in the best efforts to save the women’s tribe.
Or, so we think. It isn’t until the next episode, that we truly see Ami’s vision of the all-women tribe start to fall apart, with the leading domino - Lisa. I’ve mentioned before in this rankdown that I find Lisa to be an underrated character, just because of how integral she is to demonstrating Ami’s determination and no-nonsense attitude in the game. Lisa at the get-go was determined as untrustworthy because of her swing vote nature between the younger and older women on the tribe, and Ami’s loyalty and trust in her was already teetering on a thin line. It wasn’t until Lisa had a massive slip of the tongue, though, that her game imploded, and Ami again, iced out Lisa.
Lisa, asking Ami where the manioc is, in case something… happens to her, set off alarm bells within Ami, even if it was a clear slip, Freudian or not. With Lisa’s vote, we understand that the women’s alliance, while nice in concept, ultimately does not mean much down the line when Ami is threatened. Ami’s paranoia reaches an all-time high in this episode, and another switch is flipped when we see that she also understands that Survivor is an individualistic game at points, with the collectivist attitude allowing her to get to the end by helping her out when necessary. Lisa’s (and Bubba’s) vote also represents the beginning of the entitled Ami that we see and know throughout the season. She still talks about the women’s alliance with big eyes, but she comes cocky at this point, realizing that she is able to take people so easily out with her alliance and leadership role. The irony of Lisa’s vote, too, is that Lisa was a loyal soldier to Ami, even despite her previous behaviors before. We might never know what happened to the later portion of the game, but I can bet you that Lisa might have been more willing to keep Leann in the game and vote Eliza out. The shortsightedness with Lisa's vote is Ami’s game-losing move because her perception is changed, she loses a number, and the aura of Ami’s determination in the game becomes clear.
However, one character sees right through the bullshit of Ami, and how her ego is taking over her brain. Rory, the gruff crabass on the side who is doing anything to survive the little world of women on his tribe immediately clocks Ami for her behavior, and her brutal honesty about her wanting to keep the women together until the end becomes evident. Rory’s understanding that Ami is leading the vote him because he is a man, pisses Rory off, and he goes ablaze with the camp and Ami. Several slingshots later, Yasur skirts by tribal, but the merge is when the Ami vs. Rory relationship shines. Rory, fearing for his life in the game, is completely iced out by Ami, yet again, because of his gender. She wants to vote out all the men in quick succession and believes that the process should be easy and done.
But over Rory’s dead body will he go out without swinging. As soon as the other men come to the camp, Rory leaks Ami’s sour behavior toward him at the camp, and her complete cockiness and arrogance are evident as the women’s alliance becomes more and more true. Rory running around and throwing out that Ami is a massive threat in the game is important because it puts people on edge, and the other players begin to see what Ami is, even despite the misconstruals - she is a shrewd player who is potentially using the women’s alliance as protection for herself as the game goes on further. Scout, Twila, all the men, and Eliza at some point begin to see through Ami’s behavior in the game and realize that she is the kingpin in the tribe.
However, people continue to fall in line because Ami’s ice froze over the men at that point. Rory becomes the quick sacrificial lamb for their tribe, especially given Twila’s connection to the other men. Lea is a dead man walking following Twila’s fear against him lying to him. Chad… well Chad is a man, so sadly he needs to go. Ami (and Twila) are the leaders against the men, with Ami’s context being that she needs the men out as soon as possible and doing anything in her power to do anything for it.
This is why Ami’s next vote is so peculiar - she doesn’t go for Chris, she goes for Eliza. The moment Ami takes her eyes off the prize, she implodes and her closest ally, Leann, is immediately stabbed in the back by Twila, Scout, Eliza, and Chris. Her deviation seems peculiar when given how she played the game throughout the season - she wants the women to win, yet Eliza becomes so annoying it becomes obvious that Ami is a people pleaser at the end of the day. She wanted to help Twila and Scout by getting out Eliza, and yet they used that against her. Ami was ultimately never an ice queen, but she wanted to do what was best for the others around her, and ultimately her judgment in this moment was a negative.
Leann and Ami have an interesting relationship on the show too. I rewatched Vanuatu for this writeup, and Leann impressed me the most from the season. She has a tenderness quiet about her that I found to be really interesting because it actively went against Ami’s larger-than-life personality of being a freeing person. I loved Ami’s strategy in the season, where she was actively using a personal love language with being a touchy person with others around her, and the juxtaposition of the more reserved Leann leads to a power duo between them where one is based around their quietness and the other is drawing people in through comforting people with physical touch.
Following Leann’s final tribal council, Ami’s shining moment was the following episode where we see the catty side of Ami fly out, as she expertly tries to maintain herself into the game. In this episode, we see Ami’s vulnerability at an all time high. Ami has never been on the bottom of the game at this point, and the position is terrifying for her because she is a control freak, for lack of a better term. We see Ami have a lot of emotions in the episode - anger and bitterness toward Twila and Scout. Love and admiration for Julie and Eliza. Desperation to maintain in the game, and her ambitions at an all time high. The performance in her boot is one of the episode, and the emotional climax of her ousting is devasting in a lot of senses, even when Ami was treated as a villain. It shows the complexities of her character and how, even though we are not rooting for her, she is still a tragic figure.
Three important relationships exist within her boot episode, being Eliza, Scout, and Twila. With Eliza, we see her play her like a fiddle and attempt to get her to switch sides to keep Ami in the game. I love how Ami is brutally honest with Eliza because she was one of the leading voices to keep her in the game after awhile. Eliza is an annoying personality, but they always forged a big sistelittle sister, and I think Ami’s constant working on Eliza at the reward was really important characterization that shows her personal nature in the game. But at the same time, Eliza is aware of her position in the game, and I think while she was portrayed as a swing vote but knew that Ami was the ultimate threat. Eliza talking about how much she loves Ami at the end of the episode however, and their tears at the end was beautiful.
With Scout, we see her nasty side come out, which is especially strange given their initial perceptions of Scout and how she was seen as the wiser woman on the tribe. Ami was a person who perpetuated that belief with Scout, but as the episode went on she began to see through the ultimate bullshitter on the island, Scout. Ami yelling at Scout to put down her blanket was a great scene, but it was really their dualing voting confessionals. Ami basically saying that she was not apart of any rainbow she’s ever seen and Scout referring that Ami was arrogant with lightning striking the highest point was some beautiful characterization between the two.
But the relationship with Twila is the centralizing moment for Ami. Something that I have glossed over during this writeup was the death of her younger brother. That was depicted during the incredible reward with coffee and Rory earlier in the season, but we learn that Ami is guided by her brother in sky, who is looking down on her from above. The characterization of that seems random at first, but we learn how it fits into the story the moment that Twila swore on her son’s life when she offered to stay in the group with Leann and Ami, and then turned around and voted her that not. Ami’s vitriol following that tribal felt earned because she was genuinely hurt by Twila swearing on something so serious. Twila was not proud of what she did, but she had to do it to stay in the game, at least by her ways of thinking. Twila is a great character because she seemingly overthinks aspects of the social strategy in the game, but this time, the consequences were severe.
I loved their fight in the following episode because you can see Ami’s heartbreak. Ami blames Twila for getting pulled into their vacuum of nastiness, but also continually calls her a disgusting human being for swearing on her son and making that mistake. With Ami, it is a personal moment, and Twila’s flippancy with life and death actually has a severe negative consequence with her. It’s a great characterizing scene, one of the best fights of the season, and helps embellish both of them.
Twila and Ami culminate to an incredible jury speech in a sea of fantastic moments from the final tribal council of Vanuatu. With Ami, she needs to know about the lying and why Chris and Twila relied on it so much during their time on the Fire Islands. She wants them to refute the lying, but she also needs to know why she didnt have what it takes to make it to the end. I love what Chris says here, saying that she has too soft of a heart (the ice queen was just the exterior), but it was Twila’s response where Twila was playing the game in anyway possible, and that meant doing anything, even those idea that are considered unsavory. Twila’s answer of “a little colder, a little meaner. I wear my emotions on my sleeve” was an incredible moment for both characters, and I think there was a massive sense of closure between the two characters.
But it’s the fact that Ami respected Twila enough, and her answer, that we get her being the only other vote for Twila at this moment besides Scout. I think there are a lot of reasons for why Ami voted for her. It shows her kindness toward other characters and how ultimately the ice queen exterior can be melted. It demonstrates that she ultimately was pro feminism the entire time, and even with Twila, someone she detested at the end, she still supported that narrative, and her goals were not fake at all. And, at the end of the day, Ami’s narrative still supported that. I love that she ultimately reaffirmed her goals during the season, and it’s yet another layer in her complex character.
Unarguably, Ami has one of the greatest stories in the history of Survivor. There was a conciseness with Ami, where she was not overexposed on the beach, but her downfall felt well-planned, and her relationships were defined inciredibly with a sense of nastiness, love, and anger that blended into a set of emotional and pecuilar relationships. Her emotional, kind attitude created a unique villain that might never be replicated on Survivor again and the complexities of her brother, relationships, ice queen and harsh strategy, created a character that was a rolling amount of fun, intensity, and someone with a downfall that had everyone seated.
My last note on Ami is that she is a great confessionalist and can be quite funny at times. Vanuatu is filled with a lot of fantastic confessionals (and also ones where Chris belittles women again and again, ZING!), but Ami had a few that really stuck out to me. One was the great Michael Jordan one with Bubba, where she mentions that Michael Jordan would never talk to the other team. Another was about Scout in her slash and burn episode, mentioning that Scout put cayenne pepper down her pants and she is ready to DANCE! And lastly, one of my favorite quotes on Vanuatu was when Eliza matched the grapefruits in the memory challenges, and Ami so seductively yells “nice grapefruits!” No random moment makes me laugh harder than that one.
I was a little nervous when I got Ami’s writeup (she was last picked, lol), but I really am glad that I was able to experience Vanuatu again and watch it more from Ami’s perspective. Previously, I did it from other people, like Chris the first time, and Twila the next, but with Ami, we understand her villain arc so well because it is rooted in her real life contexts. Before writing this, she was already top 10, but at this point I am even considering moving her higher. Slay Vanuatu tho!

My partner Jeff (M) and I (F) each have two children that we have joint custody of with our exes. This year, his younger child, Jamie, was invited to submit an application for the lottery to the elementary school for gifted children in our public school system. Jamie's mom, Laura, submitted the application without telling Jeff about the invite.
Jeff and I were not enthusiastic about Jamie going to the school. They are smart, but not a genius. They scored well on state tests. However, they are often asking how to spell fairly simple words, and can get hung up on basic concepts, like any kid. They also have a fairly low resiliency for failure; if something is challenging they tend to give up easily and shut down emotionally or act out, like knocking down the project they are working on, or crumple up paper.
Jamie has been at their current school for just a few years now, and really started to make friends and get engaged in the community this year. They have been invited to many birthday parties, had play dates, and participated in an after school club-- all things that they had basically no experiences with prior to this year. Laura is well off and does not work outside of making art. They married a person who has family money. They bought a $700,000 home a few years ago, putting $210,000 down. They just bought their other child a new $800 iPad for their birthday, because their current iPad was out of storage. They have not had a discussion about losing friends and starting over again, or what it may be like doing very challenging work.
Am I the asshole for encouraging Jeff to draw a line in the sand on enrolling Jamie because their mom falsified their income to get in?
This is also fairly hard for me to deal with. I have ADHD and get hung up on issues of justice and equity. I am holding myself back from contacting the district directly. I also believe this constitutes as legal fraud. I told Jeff that if Laura tells Jamie that they can't go to the school because Jeff said no, then Jeff should tell Jamie that they had to say no because their mom claimed that they were poor in order to get in.

Yesterday I had a virtual interview with a big agency from Paris (everyone here probably know their name). Whatever, they liked me and said they would offer me a contract and that we would have another videocall today to explain everything to me of what’s gonna happen and the next steps for me to go to France (my sister lives in Meaux so I’m gonna stay at her house).

Yep, you read the title right. I’m 27F, and one day my friend of the same age and gender sent me a TikTok of the cutest man I’ve ever seen. I spent all my free time watching every single one of his TikTok’s, until I landed on a sponsorship he did for a niche dating app and hopelessly finding his life partner, only made for people of our particular religion. I got butterflies in my stomach. For some reason, I had hope that he was within reach of me being with him, and his 170K followers, popularity, and distance of being 750 kilometres away did not stop the possibility of us.
I bit the bullet, and signed up for the app. I swiped left for two days straight until I found his profile. I was so excited, I swiped right instantly. I stopped using the app, and waited a week (so far) until I hopefully capture his attention.

So this happened a few months ago while I (24NB AFAB) was at work. I work at a Starbucks in a big-ish city. The Starbucks is inside of a hotel and technically, we're a licensed store, not a corporate store.

So one day this Southwest pilot (50sM) and a flight attendant (50sF) came into my store together. The P ordered a drink and attempted to pay in cash to which I inform him that the ENTIRE hotel is cashless but we accepted gift cards, stars and card. He then proceeded to point at our tip box (which had cash in it) and he was like "If you don't accept cash then what's up with this?"
(Obviously, tipping in cash is allowed and different than paying in cash)
I didn't answer. The FA standing next to him haven't said anything. She's just laughed at what he said as if it was actually funny. As the pilot was trying to pay, he looked down and saw the banner in front of the card reader that says "Credit/Debit Card Only Facility". He points at it, looks at me and says, "well obviously I didn't see this." Again, I say nothing, just smiling.
I know that most people who try to come in with big bills (he tried to pay with a 50 on a 9$ order) usually are looking for change. So after I got their drinks out I decided to let him know that if he needs any bills broken, the rooftop bar accepts cash. He cut me off and said "nah I'm good."
Mind you, my manager (M) was standing not even 3 feet away from me when all of this happened as we were the only people working. After he cut me off and walked away, I went back to cleaning. All of a sudden, behind me, I heard a woman's voice, "are you the manager?"
My manager acknowledges her and she goes on a tangent. "What she said was unnecessary and she was trying to be rude."
M: "Ma'am, from what I just saw, they were trying to help. Everything they said was informative."
FA: "But he was already being a big boy about it so why did they have to throw that in? Seems like she was being shady to me."
I dont remember the rest of the convo but basically my manager stood by me and believed they were just being weird. Which it definitely was because 1. that situation didn't have anything to do with her? Why do you have to jump to defend this grown ass man and then use the term "being a big boy" for something he didn't have a choice over? It's either pay a different way or be thirsty. The hell?
I thought that was the end of it until our hotel's MOD (manager on duty) walked through and pulled my manager to the side. Turns out, they complained to him about the same thing BUT she added "I know when someone is being shady because I have two black kids at home."
Im like .. no way bro. That's the same as saying "I have black friends" imo. Of course they were white. They ended up calling our district manager with the complaint (she is part Latina and a lesbian) and she ended up making a complaint to THEIR corporate office about the pair. Turns out they were married (or affair partners) but I knew something was up when she had a problem with what I said.
Anyways, I wasn't in trouble at all and they ended up being banned from our company as a whole.

Rybakina vs Paolini :

This quarterfinals in the WTA seems fairly straightforward. The challengers are excellent, but the favorites really should win. Their games are bigger, they have more experience, and they’re in good form. None of that means much once they take the court though, and for Jasmine Paolini, having no pressure pairs nicely with having a lot of experience against this opponent. Paolini has played Rybakina 4 times, and the h2h sits at 2-2. The two wins were on hardcourt, and both were withdrawals so that stat is kind of misleading. A better result for Paolini to draw on is their match in Stuttgart a few weeks ago (indoor clay), where Rybakina won a close match in 3 sets (6-3, 7-5, 6-3). That seems like conditions that should benefit Rybakina a bit since serving indoor is usually a bit easier, so Paolini will have some belief here.
Last year these two met in Rome, with Paolini coming up short in the first set tiebreaker before losing a lopsided 6-1 second set. Now that I’m done listing random match results, I’ll tell you what I actually think. Rybakina beating Svitolina is a good warmup for playing Paolini because of her rally tolerance. Both Paolini and Svitolina do most of their work with their forehands, and while Paolini is a better mover on clay than Svitolina, Rybakina can still hit winners past her when she’s set. Rybakina served at 54% against Svitolina, and that will probably make her lose to Paolini. Jasmine’s entire game is built around extending rallies and making her opponent move until they make errors forcing shots. If you give her control, she has a great off-forehand that is pretty hard to read. She also commits to taking the ball early when she can so someone like Rybakina without a quick first step is in trouble if she’s not hitting big. Luckily for Rybakina, she hits hard on most shots and she stays in cross-court patterns that are tough for her opponent to escape. It’s a big step up in competition for both players, and this should be very close. I’d compare it to Rune and Zverev, where one player just has a slightly simpler approach but all their rough patches will be extremely costly. Rybakina’s offense should pull through in the end, because even though she’s not the best mover she’s fairly consistent from the baseline when she has to be. Rybakina in 3.

Andreeva vs Sabalenka :

Andreeva got better and stronger this year and that is really cool to see. The losses have started to look rough on her, but the experience she’s gaining at an early age is very similar to what Gauff and Anisimova went through on tour. It sucks to lose, but you have to work through some Ls to get to a point where they don’t scare you anymore. Adjusting your perspective and developing new ones can really change our experience in life, so on the other side of some tough situations will be a player who will be ready to win when it’s finally her time. For now, she seems good enough to beat all the 2nd tier players, and not quite ready in terms of physicality to beat the best. Sabalenka was a scary player when she was wildly inconsistent, and now she is playing solid ball.
Despite her high octane game, Sabalenka is now one of the more consistent performers on tour. She’s 20-6 this year and the focus and commitment she has shown on court is a remarkable change from her early seasons. Her strokes have improved, and her backhand now is a very fluid technique that lets her infuse pace without missing much. Sabalenka beat Navarro in straights, and Emma is around the top level I think Andreeva can bring. Sabalenka has also played Andreeva twice already so she will expect to be playing long baseline rallies and she’ll know her opponent won’t cough up many unforced errors. Both previous meetings were lopsided straight set wins for Aryna, but this is still interesting because of Andreeva’s progress. Mirra is still improving, so her ceiling is uncapped. She can improve over the course of the year, or in a single tournament, or even during a match. The turnover on tour is tough at times when we have favorite players, but watching the phenoms figure it out is pretty cool too. For now, I think she continues to lack the power to really score here, so Sabalenka’s winners to unforced error count is what matters here in the end. That ratio tends to be positive these days, and she’s well rested and in good form. Sabalenka in 2.

Ruud vs Djokovic :

I’m a little sad here. One, because I was expecting Ruud to come up big and beat Djokovic. Ruud has struggled against the big 3 in these big matches at majors, so even though Novak was not at his best it would have been nice for Casper to just get one back. One of the reasons I like the aging champions to play a little longer is because the wins against them can be the defining moments of a young player or journeyman’s career. The second reason I’m sad is because tennis just isn’t as good without Novak Djokovic, and injuries take a long time to recover from and tend to re-occur when you’re in the second half of your career. A meniscus tear can be fixed with minor surgery and rehab, but having uncertainty about placing your full weight on your knee is tough on any surface. With the ultra slippery grass season coming up, it’s just the wrong time to be returning from a knee issue. Healthy people are getting injured out there, so I worry we might not see Novak again until the North American swing.
Djokovic had a strange tournament, and doubled over after long rallies in an homage to Monfils that made me think he actually might have been tired. After watching the guy rally and win for so long, it’s hard for my brain to even compute that he might be getting tired playing tennis. Almost losing to Cerundolo is rough, and I’m sure Francisco is kicking himself a bit for not putting that match away. Djokovic indicated that the painkillers kicked in in the fourth set, and that’s where momentum shifted. It felt like Djokovic was missing and not running down most dropshots, and Cerundolo had started to just rally and assume Novak would miss. Djokovic locked in though, and once he stopped missing Cerundolo didn’t really notice. I don’t think Djokovic could have won the set from 0-0, but from 3-4 it was only a few games away and Djokovic was excellent at applying pressure here since he’s a great returner and Cerundolo only really scores with his forehand.
For Casper, it’s a big bonus. He’ll play the winner of Zverev and De Minaur and he should like his chances against both. Given how well ADM is playing and coupled with the fact that Zverev is still favored, Ruud can expect it to be a long match. Zverev playing multiple 5 setters before a guy who wants to grind long rallies and kick huge topspin at him is a tough one, and again Zverev has gotten the night session which (as Zero_Dimension pointed out to me) is not his preferred conditions because it’s a bit colder. Ruud played solid against Fritz and outlasted him after a frantic first two sets, and his experience and professionalism means we’ll have a great semifinal on this side. Hoping for a quick recovery for Djokovic.

Zverev vs De Minaur :

I thought Medvedev would outlast De Minaur because of his ability to serve and extra wingspan, and that’s part of why I think he’ll lose here. Medvedev was doing well against Alex in the previous round, but he had some blister issues on his feet and it has been well documented in the past that this just isn’t something you can play through. No slight to De Minaur here either, if your opponent suffers from a wear and tear issue, you partially caused that. Alex is playing much better on clay and has pulled two solid upsets here. Zverev would be favored against Medvedev on clay, but if he won in a runaway 4 sets it’d be a very impressive win.
Zverev and De Minaur have played 9 times and Zverev is 7-2. The 2 losses were in team competitions, which many players don’t take as seriously as tour events. The main issue in the matchup is De Minaur’s backhand. It’s a stable shot and his footwork is great, but Zverev hits the ball much bigger on his backhand and is more consistent with it. It means that De Minaur’s best strategy (the inside out forehand) is sort of neutralized. De Minaur’s serve also is more about location than pace, which means Alex’s wingspan gives him the ability to return well. Add in that De Minaur’s ball is much flatter than most players on tour, and clay doesn’t really help him.
There are a lot of things working against De Minaur in this matchup, but there is still hope. He pushes the pace better than almost everyone on tour, and he is looking sharp this week. Zverev has just played two 5 setters against players that De Minaur might very well beat on clay, and he has fallen into push-mode in some big moments which always leaves him there to be beaten. Zverev is in great shape and wasn’t even sweating much or breathing hard at the end of the Rune match, but he is a bit dense about the game itself at times and his forehand can break down. When he’s struggling, he’s usually slow to adjust, so I think De Minaur can get one of the first two sets. From there, I don’t know. Zverev’s serve is a huge weapon in this matchup, and he’s dominated the h2h. De Minaur has a puncher’s chance, but it will take a lot of punches. He beat Struff by working for unforced errors against a guy with poor defense, too much impatience, and a rough backhand. He beat Medvedev by outworking a defensive guy with mobility issues and an inability to hit through the court on clay. Zverev on clay is a bit like a combination of Struff and Medvedev, and I think he gets through here. Playing 5 with Rune isn’t great, but Rune is adept on clay and has the ability to elevate his game against the big names. Zverev in 4.

I will try not to make this too long. my bf and I have been together for over 3 years and we just had our first child together who is almost a year old. my bf is a really well rounded person. extremely intelligent, a conversationalist, funny, kind, ambitious, adventurous, optimistic, wealthy. I am more reserved. not very goal oriented, shy, introverted, kind of stagnant, more of listener. We definitely have a ying and yang kind of thing going on. Anyway, I love him very much but I feel like we are disconnected emotionally. I noticed it way earlier on in our relationship. I couldn’t really put my finger on it, but I guess pregnancy and postpartum really brought things to fruition and made me look into it more.
Some examples: lack of empathy, very insensitive remarks and name calling (mostly in arguments), dismissive, defensive, accusatory, critical, entitled, crosses boundaries, does not apologize or take accountability, etc.
The internet tells me that this is emotional abuse and/or narcissism. I’ve expressed my concerns to him and he pretty much confirmed it. He agreed that he has some narcissistic and arrogant traits, and that im not the first person to bring this concern to his attention. He also admitted to me that he has misogynistic views. I already gathered this, he says very off putting things sometimes about women that make me feel kind of awkward. Anyway, he just seems really justified and okay with these ways. I cried to him and went over some things that happened in our past that really hurt me and I didn’t get and clarity or closure on any of it, just blame or him saying it never happened.
To conclude, all of this has reallyyy been draining me mentally and physically. I feel very confused, brain fog, no appetite, regret, shame, just overall sad. When things are good, they’re great. So I’m constantly questioning myself, like are these things minuscule? Should I just excuse them and if I do, can it be a detriment in the long run? I am a VERY sensitive and empathetic person, so I wonder if I’m just in my own head or if these things are as extreme as they feel. We both see separate therapists but are open to seeing one together. any feedback is appreciated! thank you.

TL;DR

• River will be roughly 50:50 ratio with 'dry' terrain.
• 'New' neutral creeps, new 'courier', and Slardar rework.

• River, puddle (Slardar), and fountain are classified as wet area, anything else will be dry area.
• Boxed area of the map gets flattened to become wet area and neutral camps there will have different type of creep spawn than any camps on other section of the map.
• The only wet area inside boxed area of both sides, marked as medium camp, becomes a spawn area of Magic Carp, new type of team-controlled unit as reminiscent of courier sharing.
• Easy Camp inside the boxed area will be replaced by medium camp.

Thought Process

• The ratio of terrain of the map still favors dry area over wet area, thus limiting the usage of wet area as crucial element in the game compared to night time and trees.
• Other changes are added to make wet area having significant impact as night time manipulates vision range and trees blocks vision area.

New Change: Wet Camps

• Most models from Siltbreaker and the unused ones from the main game will become inhabitants of wet camps.
• All the models will be resized to fit the camp they represent and their previous stats and abilities from their former iteration will be no longer relevant.
• Stalker camp, prowler camp, and drakken camp will no longer bear ancient to their creeps' name.
• Wet Camp creeps will have their creeps stats one level below dry camp creeps.
  • Wet medium camp creeps will have dry small camp creeps stats (HP, damage, bounty, etc.).
  • Wet hard camp creeps will have dry medium camp creeps stats (HP, damage, bounty, etc.).
• Wet Camp creeps get a passive 'Mother Ocean Blessing' to increase their HP and damage up to 50% when on wet area with 2s linger time after getting out of it.
  • Wet medium camp creeps will have roughly the same HP and damage as dry medium camp creeps from this passive.
  • Wet hard camp creeps will have roughly the same HP and damage as dry hard camp creeps from this passive.

Wet Medium Camp

• Swoledar and Reefwatch Thrall will inherit abilities of Centaur Camp inhabitants.
• Ogre Seal and Odobenus Ogre Seal will inherit abilities of Ogre Camp inhabitants.
• Amoebite will inherit abilities of Golem Camp inhabitants.
• Reefbottom Ravager and Reefbottom Crawler (small variant of Reefbottom Ravager) will inherit abilities of Wolf Camp inhabitants.
• Shorehunter (small Tidehunter but ranged unit with thrown harpoon) and Swolerk (big Slark with Anchor as weapon) will inherit abilities of Satyr Camp inhabitants.

Wet Hard Camp

• Stalker Camp comes back to inherit abilities of Harpy Camp inhabitants.
• Prowler Camp comes back to inherit abilities of Hill Troll Camp inhabitants.
• Drakken Camp + Drakken Clutchling (Silverwing Clutchling variant) comes back to inherit abilities of Kobold Camp inhabitants.
• Odobenus Footman and Odobenus Frost Mage will inherit abilities of Ghost Camp inhabitants.
• Sabaku Archer will inherit abilities of Vhoul Camp inhabitants.
• Kobold Troll Camp abilities inheritance is pretty much self-explanatory.

Thought Process

• Less reward in farming the camps at the corner of the map potentially reduces skirmish attempt there over any other parts of the map.
• Dry small camp creeps arguably have underutilized abilities because their weak stats makes them less favorable so wet hard camp that equivalent to them comes in handy for that.
• Wet neutral creeps model utilizing pre-existing models and roughly having same capability as existing creeps hopefully quickens players adaptation by the sense of familiarity.

New Change: Magic Carp

• Each team gets one magic carp, controllable courier-like unit shared its control among the members of the team.
• The carp has 2 modes as ability, submerged and swim mode, with 3s transformation time.
• Swim mode provides walking courier move speed, 0 vision range similar to sentry ward, and invulnerability to the carp when it is inside its spawn area.
• Submerged mode provides ward-type invisibility, observer ward vision range but becomes rooted and vulnerable even inside its spawn area.
• The carp mostly has same properties as courier, or ward properties when under submerged form.
• The carp will be 100% slowed when it moves to non-water area.
• The carp has 50% of total couriers spawn time on the team and provides 50% total couriers gold bounty as shared exp bounty to opposing team upon getting killed.
• The carp has ability to apply Smoke of Deceit to itself with 420s cooldown and gets on cooldown at the start of the game.

Thought Process

• The expansion of wet area causes the second courier-like unit pretty much reasonable, complementing each other existence between the former and the latter for significant impact to the game.
• New objective shared among the team at info gathering prioritization and spiritual successor of old courier sharing system.

Slardar Rework
Innate

• Magic Carp of Slardar's team will move 50% faster.

Abilities

• Sprint passively grants 9%/12%/15%/18% bonus move speed and 0%/10%/20%/30% slow resistance when Slardar is inside wet area.
• Slithereen Crush passively grants 3/4/5/6 bonus armor and 0/3/6/9 bonus health regeneration when Slardar is inside wet area.
• Bash of the Deep passively grants 0%/10%/20%/30% lifesteal (reduced efficiency against creeps) on triggered bash and 8/16/24/32 bonus damage when Slardar is inside wet area.

Aghanim

• Shard: increases Slithereen Crush puddle and increases linger time of wet area boosts for 1.5s
• Scepter: Wet area passives no longer require wet area to be active and getting inside the wet area amplifies it by 50%.

Thought Process

• The expansion of wet area potentially boosts Slardar game by huge margin so splitting his passives on several abilities are needed as sense of prioritization at early game.
• Additional passive effects to each abilities are the way to make the split passives less punishing.

Soon to be Coming

• New Rune: Dark Rune, equivalent to Water Rune.
• New Neutral Items properties utilizing night time, wet area, and runes.
• Additional night-based heroes besides Luna, Balanar, Lycan.
• Additional wet-based heroes besides Slardar.

I lead a small technical team at a small/mid size company. It's a brand new team (formed ~3 months ago), and this is my first official management position, so I don't really have prior experience with this sort of thing.
I am getting divorced in the next month, and I'm debating what (if anything) I should tell my team. The last 4 months have been very rocky but I've kept a strict boundary between work and home life, so I doubt they know that anything's going on - at least my own manager didn't until I brought him up to speed this morning. I would almost be inclined not to say anything, except I'm going to change my name back to my maiden name and that's a highly visible thing to do and not say anything about it.
If I do decide to tell them, I'm also unsure about how to do the messaging. Email? In person? Group chat?

الحمد لله و الصلاة و السلام على رسول الله صلى الله عليه و آله و أصحابه و سلم
Previously we have written on why it is an obligation to follow the sunnah
And now we will clarify which team is the actual team that follows the sunnah, which person is actually the follower of the sunnah, and to whom they attribute themselves and what their origin is.
They have various names:
- Ahl al/ashabul hadeeth (people of hadeeth)
- Ahl al athar (people of narration)
- Ahl as-sunnah (people of the sunnah)
- Atbaa’ as-salaf (followers of the salaf)

And the reason they are named as such is because they are followers of the hadeeth, plain and simple, without leaning to anyone’s opinion that goes against the objective meanings of the Quraan and the sunnah, as all the innovator teams have become misguided because they have rejected the correct meanings of the Quraan and the sunnah, and have deviated to an opinion they preferred.
And they do not only follow the hadeeth, they follow the ones that have conveyed the hadeeth to them who are the “salaf” and the salaf are defined as mentioned in the hadeeth of Allaah’s messenger peace and blessings upon him:
“The best people are those of my generation, and then those who will come after them (the next generation), and then those who will come after them (i.e. the next generation), and then after them, there will come people whose witness will precede their oaths, and whose oaths will precede their witness." [Bukhari and Muslim]
A generation is one hundred years, among other definitions, it also refers to the companions.
And a companion is anyone who has seen and has believed in the messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him.
They are the most knowledgeable of all Muslims as they have learnt directly from the messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him, and were exalted by Allaah in the Quraan in over 100 ayat.
And after the companions, come the tabi’een which literally means: followers
As a term, it means the scholars that have seen the companions but have not seen the messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him, and in them the messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him said:
“The Fire shall not touch the Muslim who saw me, or saw one who saw me." [https://sunnah.com/tirmidhi:3858\]
And he also said:
“Tooba (glad tidings) for whoever has seen me, or whoever has seen those who have seen me” [narrated by Ibn Abi Assim and others, authentic]

And because of the glad tidings given to those people, they aren’t good just because they have seen Allaah’s messenger peace and blessings upon him but also because of the knowledge they have gotten, and those tabi’een aren’t good for seeing the companions only but for the knowledge they have accumulated, they are better than us in the sight of Allaah and as such, we must follow them obediently, as the knowledge they had was sufficient to make them the best, and it should definitely be sufficient for us who are much lower and much less informed than they were.

What has been narrated from the companions may Allaah be pleased with them in sticking to the sunnah:

Al Irbaadh ibn Saariya may Allaah be pleased with him said:
One day the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led us in prayer, then faced us and gave us a lengthy exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts were afraid.
A man said: Messenger of Allah! It seems as if it were a farewell exhortation, so what injunction do you give us?
He then said: I enjoin you to fear Allaah, and to hear and obey even if it be an Abyssinian slave, for those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my sunnah and that of the rightly-guided caliphs. Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.” [Abu Dawood and others, authentic]
And the four rightly guided caliphs are the best most knowledgeable of the companions that have been given leadership, they are Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali may Allaah be pleased with them.

It was narrated that Jabir bin 'Abdullah may Allaah be pleased with them said:
"When the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) delivered a sermon, his eyes would turn red, he would raise his voice and he would speak with intensity, as if he were warning of an (enemy) army, saying, 'They will surely attack you in the morning, or they will surely attack you in the evening!' He would say: 'I and the Hour have been sent like these two' and he would hold his index and middle finger. Then he would say: 'The best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The most evil matters are those that are newly-invented, and every innovation (Bid'ah) is a going astray.'
Abdullaah ibn Ukaym (tabi’i) was sent to attend the court of Al Hajjaj, when he entered, he was asked “How did Umar used to preach?”
Abdullaah said: Umar used to say: “The most truthful saying is the saying of Allaah, and indeed, the best way is the way of Muhammad peace and blessings upon him, and the most evil matters of religion are the newly introduced, and every innovation is misguidance, and indeed, people are in wellness so long as they take their religion from their elders, and the young ones haven’t rebelled over the elders, and when the young ones rebel against the elders, then they have been doomed” [Lalikaa'i]

Abdullah ibn Masoud may Allaah be pleased with him said:
We were with the Prophet (ﷺ), and he drew a line (in the sand), then he drew two lines to its right and two to its left. Then he put his hand on the middle line and said : 'This is the path of Allaah. Then he recited the Verse: And verily, this (i.e. Allah's Commandments) is My straight path, so follow it and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you from His path..." (Al Anaam 153 translation of the meaning) [Hadeeth is narrated from several authorities, authentic]

Abdullaah ibn Al Abbas may Allaah be pleased with them was on the pulpit when he said: The messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him said: ‘The affairs of this nation are good and (they are) close (to each other) so long as they have not discussed children and qadar meaning: the fate of the children of the disbelievers and have not argued in qadar” [Al Haakim and Ibn Hibban, authentic]
And as it has appeared, one of the earliest misguidances was the misguidance of the qadariyya which also originated due to the Muslims quarreling about the fates (qadar) of the disbelievers and the believers, and where the children of the disbelievers will end up when they die, but without any proper knowledge of the sunnah, and if they had turned to the sunnah they would’ve been cured, but they were ignorant, and they persisted in their misguidance until they denied qadar altogether”

Abu Bakr may Allaah be pleased with him used to say: “Which earth will carry me and which sky will shadow me if I speak in the words of Allaah without knowledge?”
And coming from Abu Bakr who was the most knowledgeable of all companions, this is a grave warning.


Umar may Allaah be pleased with him used to say: “Avoid the people of opinion, they are the enemies of the sunnah, the hadeeths were too difficult for them to memorize so they spoke with opinion and they were misguided for it”


Muaath ibn Jabal may Allaah be pleased with him whenever he sat down to teach or preach or give a speech would say:
Allah is a just arbiter; those who doubt would perish. One day Mu’adh b. jabal said: In the times after you there would be trails in which riches would be abundant. During these trails the Quran would be easy so much so that every believer, hypocrite, man, woman, young, grown up, slave and free man will learn it. Then a man might say: What happened with the people that they do not follow me while I read the Quran? They are not going to follow me until I introduce a novelty for them other than it. So avoid that which is innovated (in religion), for whichever is innovated is an error. I warn you of the deviation of a scholar from right guidance, for sometimes Satan utters a word of error through the tongue of a scholar; and sometimes a hypocrites may speak a word of truth. I said to Mu’adh b. jabal: I am at a loss to understand may Allah have mercy on you that a learned man sometimes may speak a word of error and a hypocrite may speak a word of truth. He replied: Yes, avoid the speech of a learned man on distract you from him (the learned), for it is possible that he may withdraw (from these well-known things), and you get the truth when you hear it, for truth has light. {https://sunnah.com/abudawud:4611}

Abdullaah ibn Masoud may Allaah be pleased with him said: “Follow, and do not innovate, you have been sufficed” [At-Tabarani 9/154]

And said: “The little knowledge of the sunnah is better than vast knowledge while being on an innovation” [Ad-Darimi 217]

Abdullaah ibn Umar may Allaah be pleased with him said: “Every innovation is a misguidance, even of people think it to be good” [Lalikaa’i]

Narrations of the tabi’een against innovations

Al Hasan al Basri said: “Know the virtue of the muhajireen (companions that migrated to Medina) and follow their traces and never approach what people have innovated into the religion, because the worst matters of religion are innovations”

Abu Idrees al Kholani said: “To see fire in the masjid that I cannot put out is more preferable to me than seeing an innovation I cannot change” [Thamm al Kalam, As-Sunnah by al Maroozi]
Abu al Aaliya said: “Learn Islam, and when you’ve learnt it do not leave it behind, and stick to the straight path as that is Islam, and do not deviate the path right or left, and stick to the sunnah of your prophet and what his companions had been upon before they killed their companion (Uthman) and before they did what they have done. We have recited the Quraan before they killed their companion, and before they did what they have done by fifteen years, and never approach these desires that create hatred and reproachment among people”

What Abul Aaliya meant is that the companions may Allaah be pleased with them had always been in unity and consensus before they were tried by the hypocrites that were not from among them that instigated them against their imam Uthman may Allaah be pleased with him and before they fought, and those very companions returned to the same unity and consensus later on, especially in year 40AH called “The year of the congregation” ‘عام الجماعة’ when Al Hasan ibn Ali may Allaah be pleased with them stood down from the throne for Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan may Allaah be pleased with them, so stick to the congregation, the consensus and the Quraan, and you’ll reach Jannah safely, quickly and easily.


Abu Qualaba al Jarmi said: “The people of Islam have not introduced an innovation, unless they pick the sword up to fight for it”

And this has happened, and we will mention the history of the innovator teams and how they have caused wars and how they still cause a lot of violence and killing in our modern day, writing this in the 28^th of Thul Qida 1445AH

Umar ibn Abdul-Azeez said: “The messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him set a path, and so have the leaders after him, we took by the path because we believed in the book of Allaah, the most glorious most exalted, and as completion of the obedience to Allaah the most exalted, and to strengthen ourselves towards the religion of Allaah the most exalted, and whoever works by them is guided, and whoever takes aid from them is aided, and whoever disobeys it has followed other than the believers’ path, and Allaah will make him accountable for what he has relied upon, and given him Jahannam, the worst of fates [An-Nisaa 115]


“سنَّ رَسولُ اللهِ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّم وولاةُ الأمرِ من بَعدِه سُنَنًا، أخَذْنا بها تَصديقًا بكِتابِ اللهِ عَزَّ وجَلَّ، واستِكمالًا لطاعةِ الله تعالى، وقوَّةً على دينِ اللهِ سُبحانَه، من عَمِلَ بها مُهتَدٍ، ومن استَنصَرَ بها مَنصورٌ، ومن خالَفَها اتَّبَعَ غَيرَ سَبيلِ المُؤمنين، ووَلَّاهُ اللَّهُ ما تولَّى، وأصلاهُ جَهنَّمَ وساءَت مَصيرًا”

Al Hasan al Basri said: “Know the virtues of the muhajireen (migrants to Medina of the companions) and follow their actions, and never approach what people have introduced into this religion, for the most evil matters of religion are innovations”

Muhammad ibn Sereen and, another person, Ayyub as-Sikhtiyani was once entered upon by an innovator that wanted to tell him something, and he rejected, and they wanted to recite an aya upon them, and he rejected, they said “Not even a word?” “Not even a word, unless I leave”


And this suffices of the narrations of the tabi’een against innovations, each one of these great imams of Islam that are unknown today will have biographies written for them so the Muslims know who the actual scholars are and who the actual imams are, and in a later post, their students will be mentioned.
