2024.06.05 02:12 newgirlmoon Building a School List

Hey y'all!
Are there any schools that I'm missing from my list so far?
Now for the fun part...
School List:
Reaches
Mayo
Stanford
NYU Grossman
Targets
Boston University
University of Rochester
UChicago
University of Michigan
Case Western
UCLA
Brown
Emory (still deciding)
Baselines
Wayne State
Central Michigan University
Oakland
Western
Michigan State University
Medical College of Wisconsin
Penn State
Lewis Katz
Albert Einstein (unsure on this one)
Which schools would you guys add or remove? While I'm still open to specialties, I've taken an interest in primary care (especially family med), so if you guys know any schools that value it too, feel free to share.
Lastly, not sure if my volunteering hours (especially the amount for clinical) would be enough for a Jesuit school, but any n=1 stories would be encouraging!

How would you interpret this?
I smoked weed outside away from anybody else. I noticed a woman staring at me through her window from afar, so I stared back to antagonize her. Then the next morning the pink sheets are on everyone’s door. I looked at the lease to verify what I thought, and that would be that the cultivation and sale is prohibited, but not the consumption. My state classifies marijuana as a recreational drug, like tobacco, but they clearly set two different rules for each.

2024.06.05 01:31 itdobelikedat_tho How to find help with expenses as medical student without getting into more debt?

I’m finding myself short a few hundred dollars for June rent until I receive my next financial aid refund in July. Is there financial assistance out there for medical students in my position? It wasn’t due to a lack of financial responsibility as much as it was unexpected expenses, but that doesn’t change my situation. I come from a humble background so my parents would be unable to assist. I’ve looked into rental assistance but they usually only help if one is at risk of eviction which I haven’t gotten to this point. You’d think they’d help before you get to that point rather than let you drown before being willing to help, but I’m sure they do it for a reason. Any suggestions?

2024.06.05 01:16 slipperyslingshot CMPA or MSPI? HELP

This is a rant/desperate cry for advice. My baby is turning 4 months old this week. I’ve been exclusively pumping due to her unable to latch properly from the beginning. I already feel like a failure for not being able to breastfeed but I just absolutely hate pumping. The way it feels, the time and energy and I hate that I don’t have a breastfeeding bond with my daughter. About a month ago, I brought LO to the doctor because she was fussy and spitting up frequently after feeds. Had to see a different pediatrician due to ours being unavailable that day. They’ve been concerned with her weight, she gains but just slowly, she’s just always been tiny. (She now weighs 12lbs 6oz) this pediatrician came in and said that she could have a lactose sensitivity and suggested we do half formula half breastmilk at every feed to increase weight and help her tummy with handling the lactose in my breastmilk. Well, one week later exactly, LO breaks out into hives and had blood in her stool. I bring her back and the Dr just dismisses it and attributes the blood in stool to an anal fissure and the rash non related. Well later that day I had to feed her just formula on the go and before she even finished the bottle had hives on her face and body. I immediately new it had to be a cows milk protein allergy. We were feeding her similac 360 sensitive. Went back to Dr and ped said it was likely cows milk protein allergy. So I cut out all dairy and switched to half alimentum and half breastmilk. LO was doing great for two weeks. Then 3 days ago completely flips and is screaming and crying randomly, arching her back at feeds and is just so fussy. She is constantly chewing on her hands and putting everything she can in her mouth so maybe teething? But she has no swelling on redness on her bottom gums, just on the top. I haven’t cut out soy so now I’m thinking it’s MSPI? She had a bit of blood in her diaper on Saturday but had another fissure. I have no idea what to do. I called the medical assistant line and they called me back saying Dr says it’s likely acid reflux. LO is only taking 30 min naps as well and is always cranky and seems over tired. I just don’t know what to do anymore. I’m at the point where I want to just completely stop pumping and just switch to formula because I’m so worried about triggering her stomach. But I’m scared she is going to not accept pure formula. I’m just so anxious and worried all the time about her I don’t know what to do anymore. I can barely focus at work, I’m constantly texting my mom asking how she’s doing. I’m just always in panic mode. We have her 4 month check up tomorrow with a new doctor that was recommended by family so I’m hoping she can help. I just want my baby to be happy.

2024.06.05 01:03 J3llyB3lly92 Washington employment

I got injured at work a month and a week ago. I work as a cook and a fridge door slammed into my wrist. I was told I couldn't be spared to see a doctor for 4 more days/shifts, before it became unbearable. Due to the bone placement it's notoriously difficult to image, but it's being treated as a broken bone in my wrist. My doctor said accommodations need to be made, but unfortunately with the nature of my job, I can't do anything one handed and needed to use my dominant hand to assist. It aggravated it badly and after a couple more shifts I went back to the doctor. They basically said I cannot do my job one handed and said as much in a letter for my employer. I had discussed with my boss that I am willing to do anything that doesn't use my hand, but I cannot work in the kitchen with one hand. She said okay and that we don't have enough admin hours or role that wouldn't use my hand, so scheduled me off. I've done the ordering from home since then, about an hr a week (which I've had to chase and nag 5 times the last month to even get that) The doctors clinic lost my L&I paperwork so it took a long time for that to go through. On Friday I got a letter saying I am eligible for reimbursement of medical expenses etc but nothing about loss of income. I called L&I and they said I am not eligible for loss of income because my work has said I have been offered light duty to make up for any hours. Which just isn't true. I used all my PTO and sick leave the first 2 weeks, which means a whole month without pay. I am stressed and I don't know what to do or who to go to. We are struggling hard and can't afford a lawyer. I live in a small town with limited employment opportunities but the idea of going back right now sounds unbearable. They acted like they would be so compliant with L&I and it's all BS

2024.06.05 00:58 Legitimate_Soup_873 First IVF Consult - Need Advice

TLDR - overwhelmed and seeking advice for my first IVF consult
I have my first IVF consult this Thursday. I’ve been trying to do some research but there seems to be so much to know and I haven’t been able to sort through it all. As a DOR girly, what are the questions, tests, medications (etc.) you recommend asking for?
I haven’t been able to decide if we should try one more IUI or go to IVF immediately. I’ve asked this in the group before and I know it really depends on how many kids I want. I’ve always hoped for 3 and imagined I had so much time because my mom has my brother at 41. I’m also not sure if it will take me a while to come up with the money.
About me: - I’m 29 was diagnosed at 28, - trying for my first, and had one 6w miscarriage last October. No positive tests since then. - Left tube is too narrow for embryos to fit through so essentially blocked, right tube clear, - arcuate uterus - Left ovary is dominant and right needs medication to produce a mature follicle. - No explanation for DOR diagnosis. negative for fragile x, no cancer, no surgery, no stds or pelvic infections, RE said she hasn’t seen any endometriosis (can you see that on a saline sonogram?) and I don’t have any excessive menstrual or pelvic pain so don’t suspect it myself. - History of delayed ovulation, irregular follicular phase, and luteal phase defect, mild PCOS, previously insulin resistance and metformin helps me keep that down.
What we’ve tried: - conceived (by magic???) naturally in the 6th cycle (3rd ovulatory cycle) post nexplanon removal with no assistance in September but ended in 6w miscarriage by the end of October. I’m still baffled as to how this happened after everything I know now. Diagnosis came after the loss. - 3 cycles after the loss where I was told I didn’t need medical assistance and to keep trying. Plus my midwife was out with an injury and they wanted me to wait to talk to her. - 1 cycle natural with progesterone in luteal phase - 2 cycles of 2.5 mg letrozole with TI, only developed one or two mature eggs on the left side, progesterone, failed - Moved to RE and did 1 cycle of IUI procedure (ovidrel) with TI and 5mg of letrozole, two mature eggs on left, one at 15mm on the right, progesterone, failed - 1 IUI cycle with 7mg of letrozole and ovidrel, 2 mature on the left, one mature on the right with a 13.3mm trailing behind, ends 8.4
Here’s my DOR test results if it helps with any context?
November 2023 (2 cycles post 6w mc) - AMH 1.08, - E2 158, - FSH 5.4, - LH 5.7, - prolactin normal, - testosterone normal, - vitamin d 38.4 (since then I take 5k IUs a day), - negative for antibodies, - lipid panel not great and elevated in some areas but the midwife said it’s not too bad, - normal thyroid labs.
April 2024 (at a different lab and RE office) - AMH .50, - AFC potentially 8-10 (unconfirmed, in March I had 5 eggs developing at mid cycle ultrasound on the right though none matured and last cycle I had 3 eggs at mid cycle ultrasound on the left, last December a tech saw 6 on the right during luteal phase), - E2 40.6, - FSH 5.7

2024.06.05 00:51 Sam12993 I am curious what you would do in this situation as a medical assistant in an office setting. Is my outrage justified?

For some context I’m an MA and I work in primary care. Been there 4 years. Had maybe 2 small raises since starting, do not receive health benefits or any benefits at all. I am severely underpaid for the tasks I carry out. Now my office is privately owned and there are around 12 offices. I work in a satellite office. We were informed today (not asked) that someone would be coming tomorrow to instruct us how to use do stress tests (we are internal medicine! This would be new for our office but they will do anything to charge more money)
I feel extremely insulted that they are asking of us now on top of our already maxxed out duties to now do a job that I know people make up to $30 an hour more doing, without offering us any more money.
This just feels like an insult to my intelligence, an insult to me as a human and I think I need to really consider leaving. I would really appreciate any feedback as to how you might feel in this situation.
Thank you!

2024.06.05 00:48 Michael_Combrink Cross app playlist Maker?

Could this be done using app scripts and links on Google sheets or a personal assistant like Siri, or is there an app that can do this I'm assuming several parts of this idea would be much harder than others, but would any parts be doable or have existing software or workarounds
Is there an app or personal assistant that can activate other apps and select media to play
I keep thinking it would be so nice to be able to schedule my own TV channel pretty much
To have news, entertainment, music, motivation, how to, culture, etc etc etc
Scratch all the itches
Eg to hit start and 1. The program selects the next workout video from my "HIIT workouts" playlist on YouTube A. Possibly reduced sound on workout vid and plays music on higher volume in background 2. When workout video is over, A. Spot in playlist is saved for next workout B. Transition music plays from playlist C. Interval workout timer begins calling out sets, reps, breaks etc D. Possibly different music playlists for breaks and work E. Possibly have alternative activity types F. For breaks i. Breathing exercises ii. Stretching iii. Meditation etc 3. When interval timer finishes running music starts with possibly muted scenery video for treadmill etc
Or if you have goals like Learn a new recipe every day, or watch one science vid a day, one chapter in a book etc And want to break it up with fun books, movies, music, etc
Eg study session start 1. Study music plays 2. Interval timer starts, A. 5 to 25 minutes sessions of study or work etc B. Tasks can be general, or called out specifically i. Check calendar 2 minutes ii. Read textbook chapter iii. Write paper iv. Call tutor v. Etc B. Breaks could be general or called out specifically as well i. Stand up stretch ii. Run around the block iii. Do burpees iv. Microwave burrito v. Eat burrito vi. Sweep floor, vacuum, wash dishes, switch laundry, etc vii. Make bed viii. Etc C. Tasks and breaks can also be media i. Audiobook ii. Video or audio of lecture iii. Voicemail from client, boss, teacher, class project partner, etc iv. Text to speech of textbooks, emails, lectures, notes, drafts, articles, etc v. Websites and articles etc could be quickly selected and then speech to text listened to later while washing dishes or driving etc
Eventually ai could be used to help streamline playlists, order of tasks, etc Eg according to self assessments, productivity and appreciation are higher with these combos, in these orders, etc
work sessions, study sessions, parties, meetings, or my whole day How cool would it be to have music during phone calls, etc
Audiobooks, podcasts, music, how to videos,

Why Mexico is the Safest Destination for Your Next Vacation

For years, Mexico has been a beloved destination for travelers seeking vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and rich history.
However, safety concerns have sometimes overshadowed its appeal. Fortunately, recent improvements in infrastructure, security measures, and local initiatives have made traveling to Mexico safer than ever before.
Here’s why you can confidently plan your next adventure south of the border.

Mexico's Enhanced Security Measures

In recent years, the Mexican government has significantly invested in enhancing security across the country, particularly in popular tourist destinations.
Increased police presence, advanced surveillance technology, and collaborations with international security experts have contributed to a safer environment for both locals and visitors.

The introduction of the National Guard in 2019 marked a significant step forward. This force has been deployed in various regions to combat crime and ensure the safety of tourists.
Additionally, many tourist areas now have dedicated police units trained specifically to assist visitors, providing an added layer of security and peace of mind.

Improved Infrastructure

Mexico's infrastructure has seen substantial upgrades, making travel more convenient and safer.
Major highways have been improved, and new road networks have been established, reducing travel times and enhancing safety for road travelers.
Airports in key tourist destinations have also undergone renovations, incorporating the latest security technologies to ensure smooth and secure travel experiences.

Public transportation systems in cities like Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey have been modernized, with enhanced safety measures and better connectivity.
These improvements make it easier for travelers to navigate and explore the country confidently.

Focus on Tourist Safety

Popular tourist destinations such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos have placed a strong emphasis on ensuring the safety of their visitors.
Local governments and businesses have implemented stringent safety protocols, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Enhanced hygiene measures, health screenings, and readily available medical facilities contribute to a secure environment for tourists.

Hotel associations and tourism boards have also launched initiatives like the "Clean and Safe" certification, which recognizes establishments that adhere to the highest standards of hygiene and safety.
These certifications help travelers make informed decisions when choosing accommodations and dining options.

Community and Cultural Engagement

Mexico’s charm lies in its warm and welcoming people. Community-based tourism initiatives have been thriving, allowing travelers to experience authentic Mexican culture while supporting local economies.
Engaging with local communities not only enriches your travel experience but also fosters mutual respect and understanding.

Many regions have developed programs to educate visitors about local customs, traditions, and sustainable practices.
These efforts create a sense of shared responsibility, ensuring that tourism benefits both visitors and the communities they visit.

Practical Tips for Safe Travel to Mexico

While Mexico is safer than ever, it’s always wise to take practical precautions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip:

Stay Informed: Keep updated on travel advisories and local news. The U.S. Department of State and other international agencies provide valuable information on safety conditions.

Choose Reputable Accommodations: Opt for hotels and rentals with good reviews and safety certifications. Established brands and certified establishments are more likely to adhere to strict safety standards.

Travel Insurance: Invest in comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and other unexpected events.

Respect Local Customs: Understanding and respecting local customs and laws enhances your safety and enriches your travel experience.

Emergency Contacts: Familiarize yourself with local emergency numbers and the location of your country’s embassy or consulate.

Is Mexico Safe? Conclusion

Mexico’s commitment to improving safety and infrastructure, combined with its vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes, makes it an ideal destination for travelers.
With enhanced security measures, modernized infrastructure, and a focus on community engagement, traveling to Mexico has never been safer.
So pack your bags, embrace the adventure, and get ready to create unforgettable memories in this beautiful country. ¡Bienvenidos a México!

2024.06.05 00:15 Putrid-Volume-4022 100%… what now?

I filed my initial claim back in December(by myself, no VSO or assistance at all) and was given a partial rating of 90% pending clarification on some of my claimed illnesses. Came back today with another partial(all but 1 of the remaining claims, which I was told will likely he finished toward the end of this week) and was rated at 100% P&T backdated to December.
Any recommendations on things to do now? Enrollments? Anything to sign up for? I know I get free VA medical but can my children as well?

Compilation of other Reddit posts:
Boluoke (lumbrokinase)
Biocidin LSF, 1-2 pumps 2x daily
Cistus Incanus tea (3-4 TBSP loose leaf tea in 32 oz water)
I’m taking Lumbrokinase and interfase plus (contains EDTA), in addition to biocidin LSF
Stevia can break up biofilms also
From my reading it has to be liquid stevia and used with silver also, like Argentyn 23, orally. Pulsed like an antibiotic. Lyme usually isn’t a one size fits all disease-or a one treatment and it’s dealt with (chronic Lyme specifically). There’s lifestyle changes like eating clean and getting good nutrient dense foods and healing the gut. And checking for confections. It should be individualized care.
PSA; please do not use silver regularly. It's a heavy metal that your body can't filter and will accumulate. Yes it has antibacterial properties, so do many other medications.
But as we do have proven, systemic biofilm and blood clot busters, that are also highly anti-inflammatory, I would suggest using them. Those are bromelain, nattokinase, serrapeptase, and so on
According to Dr Marty Ross (an LLMD) grapefruit seed extract have been known to kill biofilm.
I've been using organic stevia drops 5-10 drops a day
I'm not sure if any of the other herbals im using are for biofilms too honestly. Phytocidal and cryptolepsis
Doctor inspired formulations liposomal cinnamon, clove & oregano, Lumbrokinase, Lauricdin, MSM, Allicin, Bromelain, ADP oregano (for gut) and a lot of buhner herbs are too
Flagyl + xylitol + lactoferrin is the gold standard
I am taking two lumbrokinase in the AM. Two natto kinase in the afternoon (away from food) and two lumbrokinase in the evening. NAC twice a day. Vitamin C twice a day.
Serrapeptase
Lumbrokinase, serrapeptase and Cistus tea
Ivermectin is now being used for Lyme treatment! It worked amazing on my babesia. I have been sick for 15 years and ivermectin has finally given me a chance at health.
I used it specifically for babesia(a common Lyme co-infection. Babesia is technically a parasite which is ivermectins specialty although it’s useful for other things like its reported curative effects on long covid and even covid vaccine symptoms. I take 48mg 1x per week. I weigh 200lbs and my dosage is calculated on my weight.
Taking additional Serrapeptase and Nattokinase which are weaker than lumbrokinase but are far less expensive.
Some Biofilm removing supplements:
Interfase & Interfase plus
Biofilm Defense
Biofilm Phase-2 Advanced
BioDisrupt
SerraDefend
Consider drinking Cistus incanus and / or phyllanthus niruri tea. The combo is a great idea because phyllanthus tea will also assist with detox.
Ivermectin works awesome for babesia!! I do 36mg every 5 days.
Xylitol is the best and you should address fibrin with lumbrokinase since biofilm may be 'fibrin bonded'
Biodisrupt worked excellent for me. Monolaurin was powerful and had to be taken with care. And then the biofilm disruptive capabilities of genuine stevia extract, and oregano oil are well proven.
Stevia is the best buster I found. Genuine from the herbalist stevia - not the shit they sell in the grocery or cvs
when combined with Lyme 2 tincture from cape cod herbs (cats claw, Japanese knotweed, and some other stuff), combined with a couple drops of cinnamon bark and oregano oil - all seemed to have really cleared me in many ways.
Thats pretty much my protocol + I have a few heavy hitters added and bromelain is in place of xylitol, and it is hitting me hard also.
I'm taking natto-serra and my LLMD recently had me add Interfase Plus.

2024.06.04 23:54 CrazyBus9426 What am I doing wrong I can't get hired as a Medical Assistant?

I got my associates degree in applied science in medical assisting and I am certified via the AAMA. I also have a certification for Medical Office Administration. I was a CNA and QMA in my twenties. I also took classes to be a medical transcriptionist. I graduate from Ivy Tech with high honors. After I finished my externship I needed my gallbladder removed but since I had a kidney transplant in 2019 I had to have my surgery at the same hospital as my transplant. I had to jump through hoops for my insurance to allow it and before I knew it 2 years have passed since I took my boards. I have been on so many interviews but no job. I have been told they are impressed with my resume, experience, and knowledge but never received a job offer. I need a job and I have applied to everything part time and full time. I also have applied for MA, front desk, medical receptionist, and patient representative. I keep getting those lovely emails saying they went with someone else. I have even emailed back asking for some feed back on why I didn't get the job with no response or they don't know. I also email a week after an interview to let them know I am still interested in the job. When I am at the interview I always have a copy of my resume to give them along with my references. What am I doing wrong? I just want to use my degree and get back into the medical field! I am about to give up and just get 2 or 3 non medical jobs.

2024.06.04 23:52 EffortUnlucky4021 school list advice?

508 mcat 3.92c/3.898s gpa for MD, ORM
based off admit.org and my preference. any advice?
question: ...do i retake mcat in aug/july or just suck it up and apply? or wait a cycle to take a gap year?
**applying to MD schools only bc i think i have a shot if i had a better mcat and i don't want to take double boards for residency bc look where the mcat got me
T30 undergrad, T6 public school
major: human bio, minor: anthropology general emphasis; B.S. & will graduate 2 quarters early (i'm a junior rn)
gpa: 3.92cumulative, 3.898 science/bcpm (2Bs total, B and B+ in the same quarter tho - ochem and biochem)
MCAT: 508 👹 127/128/126/127 - ik i can improve this significantly if i actually study bc i only studied for 2 weeks bc i was in school so that's my bad. my ACT was 35 with no studying so i was dumb and thought MCAT would be the same
asian woman, CA resident (connection to norcal and socal). upper middle SES with dentist dad
hooks: none? but i am adopted from china and talked abt that in my MME sorority essay
general theme i try to emphasize is service/person oriented in my PS. like learning abt the science and human side of ppl
LOR: prob mid but from dr. i shadowed, prof i got my first B in, english prof, PI in lab, psychology teacher.
....i didn't go to class or OH for classes i got As in... so i don't think i can ask for LOR bc no relationship formed and they lowk never even saw me 😞 i need 1 more stem professor i think tho but idek who to ask
ppl (peers, 2 english teachers, grad student mentor in lab) said my PS is good! but general issue is on the surface my ecs r disjointed-looking, weak lor, AND MY MCAT 😭
ECs:
123h, 50proj. Community Service/Volunteer - Clinical/Medical: subcommittee cohead of african american student run clinic MME) most most meaningful? idk how to select that on amcas tho
277h, 115 proj. Community Service/Volunteer- not Clinical/Medical (MME)
2222h Hobbies - crafts=>family connection
2 Honors/Awards/Recognitions: 1 for volunteering, 1 for leadership
1089h Leadership - orientation, vp and treasurer of asian sorority (MME), school-wide event planning board. sorority doesn't have a house so im not counting eating in my hours like some ppl would assume
325h, 1700h proj (emt) Paid employment - Clinical/Medical (talked abt emt in PS), also clinical research job but i was j a grunt so more j a job than research
502h Paid employment - not Clinical/Medical: retail job (speak mid spanish to help customers)
69h, 50h proj. Physician Shadowing (dentist and 3 md specialties)
744h Research/Lab with independent project just starting to recruit participants (talked abt in PS)
24h Teaching/Tutoring/Teaching Assistant during breaks
******if i reapplied i think the only different stuff would be a LOR from emt boss since i start working late june, +1 stem LOR, +1 research poster or presentation, + emt hrs, + shadowing hrs, and + volunteer hours. and hopefully better mcat retake. my gpa would prob b the same or c3.8/s3.8 so a lil lower
school list: pls help with schools i would fit the mission statement for. im catholic so i think im ok with religion based schools but im open to anywhere i can get in that's not in the south.

2024.06.04 23:50 Curious-Tea-471 Feel like I'm drowning

Hello everyone,
I have been dealing with this recently and am completely out of ideas so I thought maybe I could find some help here.
My husband and I are both 27. We recently (last year) bought our first house and had our daughter last December. Things were great for the majority of the past year but just in the last five months things have taken a drastic turn. I was working up until the birth of our daughter and we had some savings that we figured we'd use as an emergency fund while I was off work for a while. When our daughter was born we ended up having about 6k in medical bills that insurance didn't cover and even after fighting them on several things, we were left with the balance and had to put what we could not pay for immediately, on a payment plan (about 4k). We then had to buy a new car (mine needed repairs that equaled more than we paid for the car) and my husband's car needed a new transmission. We live in Wisconsin and the brutal winter roads didn't do either car any good. Then came the house repairs. In total we had about 8k in house repairs that needed done which we had to put mostly on credit cards or we would not have had heat/running water. It sucked. Then I ended up losing my job when the small business I was working for filed bankruptcy and basically screwed over its employees.
My life honestly feels like some financial horror story at this point. We have about 10k in a car loan, another 10k on credit cards and my husband is the only one working because I cannot find a job no matter how hard I try. I have applied online and in person and also looked into childcare to make myself more available for different shifts but nothing is working. Daycares in our area are limited and crazy expensive. I am completely out of ideas and don't want us to be stuck in this hole.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am having a really hard time dealing with all this on top of the trials of postpartum.
Edit to add: The CC debt is on two cards, Discover of $9200 and Citi of $1400. I have also applied for assistance for the medical bills but they say my husband makes too much for us to qualify
