2024.05.23 10:21 Hammerhuntss IT degree or nah

Hi, I am in that time of my life wherein I am torn between the decision I should take to have a successful career.
For starters, I am an IT Technician working in the ITAD industry. I was already halfway thru my undergrad study in Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering when I had to fly here to NZ for my visa 9 months ago. My first goal when I arrived here was to get any kinds of job I could get my hands on. After a month of searching, I got a call from an ITAD company which i directly hop unto but I am craving for something more than what I have right now which is to build and create, to engineer and write codes, maybe even work on Cloud and Cybersecurity. I want to get unto system admin/engineering jobs by maybe switching unto IT helpdesks jobs then working my way up getting certifications along the way. Or just go to a uni full time or maybe do part time student and part time technician.
I am just in a weird phase of itching to go up and up and i do not know if i am missing so much while my classmates are approaching their last year in my uni before. I do not know if I am on the right track already.

2024.05.23 09:55 golffan2020 Alternative search engines not working

i apologize if this isn't the right place to ask this, i just came here since i've mostly degoogled my life and have been using Brave and duck duck go and ecosia search engines for a while now with no issues. but now i can't search for anything on any of my devices. i've tried duck duck go in 2 different browsers on 2 different devices and i've tried ecosia on those same browsers and devices, and got nothing. BUT if i go to google.com and search, i get results as normal.
for context, i'm running graphene on a pixel 7 and Fedora 40 on a Framework laptop. first time seeing this issue. i tried clearing browser data and still had no luck. and i forgot to mention above that i CAN go to sites just fine, and my internet connection is fine, but i'm only seeing this with searches. i don't really get it.
again, i apologize if i need to ask this elsewhere, just wasn't sure of where to begin. apologies and thanks in advance.

2024.05.23 09:54 PalePresence8341 Browsers Only Showing Google Search Results

So I just noticed on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S10e) that in multiple browsers it will not show me any results, unless I use Google as my search engine.
I have tried Firefox and Opera. I search using DuckDuckGo or Bing and it says "Cannot display results. Please try again later" or something to that effect. Then I switch to Google, and I have results.
My browser apps are up-to-date. I even uninstalled Firefox and downloaded it again. I tried rebooting my phone. I don't know if it's worth reporting to the app developers, since it seems to be affecting multiple apps and feels like something to do with Android or Google, but I haven't had a phone update recently so I don't know what could be happening. Is this happening to anyone else? Did my phone get some sort of very specific malware that's causing this (to anyone's knowledge)??

2024.05.23 09:39 PseudoEmpthy Cross halving for metal rack?!

Hi! I'm a mechatronic engineer who has been working in the device side of the industry lately, but I do metalwork for fun, and am qualified etc.
I'm designing a roof basket and came across a conundrum, and while I will do the math I want other opinions as a sanity check.
A 50 x 25 x 2mm "box" tube crossing another of the same dimensions, sitting edge down and arranged to be flush. Conventional wisdom (off the top of my head) says to leave one whole, and cut the other, before butting the ends of the cut section onto the side of the whole section, and welding it in place.
But methinks, would it be a better idea to use a "cross halving" technique whereby you cut a notch out of each beam, leaving them both semi-whole, before fitting them together and welding around the edges?
Would this be stronger because of the integration of each whole beam? Or weaker because of the more segmented joint design. I doubt it matters for what I'm using it for but nonetheless I am curious about the overall strength characteristics and wanted another opinion.
Also, cant find anything from a quick google though I might be using the wrong search terms.
BRB running stress simulations now...

Hello there! No idea what to do next so I came here to search help. Bike has ~10k in odo.
About the bike, the bike wont rev over 7-9k rpm when giving full throttle and sometimes when I open throttle more that 50% it wont rev past those rpm’s. The funny thing here is that everything else is totally fine, idle is fine and if I drive highway 100km/h the bike runs fine, but when I accelerate with fully open throttle it get kinda stuck on 7-9k rpm. Another funny thing is that sometimes the bike rev’s to the limiter and got full power and everthing is fine. It doesn’t matter if the engine is cold or warm, this happens randomly. Took it to the dealer to check it out and they told me that the bike runs rich(computer said) and had no idea what could cause this. They drove the bike on a test bench and got full power out of it at the 2 rounds, and other rounds idk how many they had this same problem.
I have changed spark plugs, o2 sensor, wire harness, cleaned injectors, fuel pump, cam position sensor (the wire was broken), ignition coils, some sensors in throttle body. What should I do next? I have alot of experience from this kinda of stuff from cars for many years, but this is next level.

2024.05.23 09:25 Sh_TRoman Master CSS Media Queries for Optimal Web Design Leafy Web Blogs

CSS Media Queries are a feature of CSS3 that allow you to apply styles to your web pages based on the characteristics of the device or screen that’s displaying them. 2024.05.23 09:21 musakalimullah99 10 Common SEO Mistakes to Avoid as a Beginner

Suppose you're just diving into the world of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), welcome! SEO can be a powerful tool to drive organic traffic to your website, but it can also be tricky to navigate. To help you avoid some common pitfalls, here are ten mistakes that many beginners make—and how to avoid them.

Ignoring Keyword Research

Keyword research is the foundation of SEO. Many beginners make the mistake of guessing what keywords to target rather than conducting proper research. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or Ubersuggest to find relevant keywords with a good balance of search volume and competition. This will help ensure your content is targeting the right terms that your audience is actually searching for.

Overloading Content with Keywords

Keyword stuffing is a practice from the early days of SEO where people would cram as many keywords as possible into their content. Nowadays, this can actually harm your rankings. Instead, focus on writing naturally and include keywords where they fit organically. Aim for a keyword density of about 1-2%.

Neglecting Meta Descriptions and Title Tags

Meta descriptions and title tags are crucial for both SEO and user experience. A compelling title tag and meta description can increase your click-through rate from search engine results pages (SERPs). Make sure each page on your website has a unique and descriptive title tag and meta description that includes your target keywords.

Failing to Optimize for Mobile

With the majority of web traffic coming from mobile devices, having a mobile-friendly website is essential. Google uses mobile-first indexing, meaning it primarily uses the mobile version of a site for indexing and ranking. Ensure your site is responsive and provides a good user experience on all devices.

Ignoring Technical SEO

Technical SEO involves optimizing your website's infrastructure so that search engines can easily crawl and index your site. Common issues include slow page speed, broken links, and duplicate content. Use tools like Google Search Console and Screaming Frog to identify and fix technical issues.

Not Building Backlinks

Backlinks are links from other websites to your own, and they are a significant ranking factor. Beginners often overlook the importance of building high-quality backlinks. Focus on creating valuable content that others will want to link to, and consider reaching out to websites for guest posting opportunities.

Overlooking User Experience (UX)

A good user experience is critical for SEO. If your site is difficult to navigate, has intrusive pop-ups, or takes too long to load, users will leave quickly, increasing your bounce rate. Google takes user experience into account when ranking sites, so ensure your site is easy to use and loads quickly.

Not Using Analytics to Track Performance

SEO is an ongoing process that requires monitoring and adjustment. Many beginners fail to set up analytics tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console to track their performance. These tools provide valuable insights into how your SEO efforts are paying off and where you need to improve.

Focusing Only on Search Engines, Not Users

While optimizing for search engines is important, remember that you’re ultimately creating content for people. Write engaging, informative content that provides value to your readers. Search engines are getting better at understanding user intent, so content that satisfies users will also perform well in search results.

Not Keeping Up with SEO Trends and Updates

SEO is constantly evolving, with search engines frequently updating their algorithms. Staying informed about the latest trends and updates is crucial for maintaining and improving your rankings. Follow reputable SEO blogs, participate in forums, and consider joining SEO communities on Reddit to stay up-to-date.
By avoiding these common SEO mistakes, you'll be well on your way to improving your website's visibility and driving more organic traffic. Remember, SEO is a marathon, not a sprint—patience and persistence are key. Happy optimizing!
