2024.05.23 08:46 jadax Desperately need help finding a job, PMP, PSM I qualified, 5+ years exp - not getting any takers

Hey guys, I've been applying on LinkedIn for a little bit now but not being able to get my foot into any job for even an interview.
I've even got project coordinator filters up.
I have over 5 years PM experience in financial services industry (significant portion as agile manager). I have a PMP and a PSM I. The issue is my current role is a tiny firm (less than 10 ppl) and I'm guessing that's counting against me as no-one knows it. Also means I'm super underpaid for the work I do (since they don't need to pay at any standard market levels, I was getting paid 12.5k for 1 year, 17.5k for 1+ years, 19.25k for 2 years). The business I've helped setup has a realized income of easily $5K+ per month on top of other unrealised profits + their other business arms' income.
Any recommendations or referrals to recruiters or companies recruiting would be awesome đź‘Š

2024.05.23 08:45 glumgrimguy Affordable health insurance?

Hey all, I have a friend who is severely in need of health insurance. They are joint income but paycheck to paycheck with their partner when all food and necessities are considered. I advised them to apply to covered California, but because they are working extra to cover the cost of living they don’t fall under the income bracket necessary for help from covered CA. I honestly feel terrible that I pushed them to go through the application process only for them to get denied, especially given that they were wary to apply due to that possibility. I want to help them, but I have no idea what other alternatives there may be. Is there anyone here with advice for decent insurance plans that are less than 100 monthly, or any other advice for how to get them covered? I hate seeing my friends fall through the cracks of this broken system. Please help. (Put under work tags due to their lack of workplace insurance).

Hi, I have been approved of an Illinois Substitute Teacher License but cannot find a way to download a physical certificate from the ELIS website. Could somebody point me in the right direction?
A company I am applying to work for requires me to send them my license. However, I can only find my license ID number from the ELIS website.

2024.05.23 08:44 unjustifiedkills (Potentially) Moving to Scotland from US and need advice!

Hey folks!
Like the title says, I'm a gal from the US and I've been feeling the urge to move out of my state (way too expensive in California). I've always wanted to live abroad, and lately Scotland has been calling out to me. I'm not too picky on the exact city, but I'd probably try living in/near Edinburgh or Glasgow. I recognize bigger cities means bigger rent so I'm happy with nearby towns that I could head into both from! Or if you guys recommend any other towns that would be a nice/affordable place to live in?
I also wanted to see if there's any companies (or local shops) you'd recommend that I could be applying to with sort of an entry level position that would vouch for me with a work visa? While I have a few years' experience with the food, healthcare, office, etc industries and positions, I lack a diploma and I'm not sure how necessary one is to get a job that would submit a request on my behalf. What job sites would you suggest to look/apply on?
And in terms of finding apartments or rooms to rent, what would be the best websites for that? I've been googling, but I don't know how up-to-date or safe/reliable certain websites are. I also have a cat! Do places tend to ward off pets or require substantial pet fees?
My mother may also come with me! She has cancer so I'm her caregiver right now. Would such a job be possible in Scotland? Would that qualify for a work visa? I don't know how the healthcare system is over there? I've seen some commentary on NHS, but I'm ignorant (frankly) on the procedures, qualifications, options, etc.
Thank you so much for sticking through this long ramble of questions haha! Please do offer any and all advice you have (especially any American folks who made the move semi-recently). I'm more than open to hearing it. I've nonstop googled, but different sites say different things and I think checking with actual folks more than relying on promotional and or outdated sites helps me more in the long run.
PS. I'm thinking of moving in September? October? If I can get the ball rolling on a work visa!

2024.05.23 08:42 sams_disgusting I'm here to advocate for lying to employers to get your accomodations met.

I have been applying to jobs again after a lay off last month and I have come to realize I can't just set a boundary with an employer. I have to give them an excuse that they'll like.
For example, I know I need to only be working four days a week to have the time and energy to do care tasks, and errands, and the little things that bring me joy. What's the fucking point of living if you aren't taking the time to find wonder and joy? But, these managers think that any time that you are awake and not being PrOdUcTiVe is time they have the rights to potentially use. Like "free time", (🤢), is something to minimize because you should want to be on your grind and happily want them to grind you down.
So, after a few interviews where I told the truth when they ask for my hourly needs, only to get patronizing interrogations about my motives, I just started telling them I have a flexible part time job. That shit has saved me so much grief.
In conclusion, I say, recognize your disability accomodations and don't feel bad if you have to lie to get them met.

2024.05.23 08:42 TimelyGeologist03 My job offer got rescinded

I’m a college student with no work experience. I’ve been applying to jobs (fast food, coffee shops, etc) since my freshman year and haven’t been offered any jobs. University is getting more and more expensive and I need a job. I’m about to be a college junior and I have no work experience and I don’t understand how I’m supposed to get work experience if no one won’t hire me because of that. I have volunteer experience and extra curricular activities that I do at my university. Nowadays it’s so hard for people with no formal work experience to get hired. I applied to work at a coffee shop within a grocery store and I lied on my resume. I lied and said that I worked at McDonald’s and I was able to score an interview and I was given the job on the spot. I accepted the offer and I did the background check, I don’t have a criminal record - not even a speeding ticket. The next day, I received an email informing me that they have decided to proceed with another applicant.
My orientation is in a few days, and I emailed the supervisor, asking if it was an error. I want to call the hiring manager, but I’m pretty sure it was because I lied on my application. I thought I could “play it smart” by using one of my siblings’ phone number as a reference, and they agreed to help me.
Moral of the story, don’t lie about your work experience on your job application.

đź”—Emerald Gel Polish - Shine in 30 Seconds

https://preview.redd.it/d65snmyjg42d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0e2d431a145797fb698075aabc34cb81b91a5fc
I recently tried the Le Mini Macaron Gel Polish in Emerald Green and I must say, it completely changed my at-home manicure game. The color is a lush, dark shade of green that's perfect for adding a pop of color to any outfit. It's a vivid, cool hue that effortlessly embodies autumn vibes.
One of the things that I absolutely love about this product is its 3-in-1 feature. It not only acts as a base coat but also combines the color and top coat into one bottle. This not only saves time but also eliminates the need for multiple nail polish bottles, making my manicure kit a lot less cluttered.
Another highlight of this gel polish is its incredibly fast drying time. Using the Le Mini Macaron LED lamp, my nails are cured and ready to go in just 30 seconds! This is a game-changer for those who are impatient like me, as we no longer have to wait around for our nails to dry.
However, there are a few cons to consider with this product. First, the smell can be quite strong and chemical-like, which might cause headaches for some users. Second, the application process requires thin coats to avoid any issues like shrinking or unevenness.
Overall, the Le Mini Macaron Gel Polish in Emerald Green has been a game-changer for my at-home manicures. Its 3-in-1 feature and quick drying time make it a convenient and time-saving option. While there are some drawbacks such as the smell and the need for thin coats, these can be easily managed with proper preparation and application techniques. I would wholeheartedly recommend this product for anyone looking to elevate their gel nail game.

đź”—Green Glitter Gold Silver Gel Nail Polish Set

https://preview.redd.it/rkl4q3nkg42d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=679b8a2e0b4e515195476c73aba96e22863f412a
Imagine yourself prepping for the perfect New Year party, wanting to get in on the latest nail trends. The Beetles Gel Nail Polish Set has come to your rescue, promising stunning and classic colors suitable for the New Year festivities.
Upon opening, the first thing you notice is how the colors pop - the deep greens, vibrant reds, and shimmering gold, silver, and glitter varieties have left you in awe. You're excited to try them all!
Now, to the application process. As someone with some experience in this area, applying the polish definitely strikes a balance between too thick and too runny, but after a few tries, you find your rhythm. One good thing is that the application doesn't require a whole lot of time, making it a quick addition to your beauty routine. While some may find the polish hard to apply due to its gooey texture, others might like it because it gives the polish a slightly thicker appearance that lasts longer.
When it comes to longevity, the product's promises aren't fully met. While the glitter in the polish does add a lovely touch of sparkle, it doesn't seem to make the nail polish last any longer than a week. However, it's worth mentioning that some users had success in making the polish last three weeks or more with proper application.
The drying time can vary from person to person. In general, it dries relatively quickly, but depending on the thickness of your application, you might need to extend your waiting time.
Another notable aspect is that a few users reported receiving defective products. This could indicate some inconsistency in quality control, but overall, the set offers pretty colors and decent functionality.
In conclusion, the Beetles Gel Nail Polish Set is a stylish addition to your nail care collection, particularly if you love changing up your nail colors as frequently as you change your clothes. Despite some minor issues with the gooey polish and short longevity, the product provides value for money, making it a worthwhile purchase. However, do keep in mind that a UV lamp is required for proper curing, a detail that might catch some users off guard.

đź”—DND Nail Lacquer in Green Forest, AK

https://preview.redd.it/8ysuirxkg42d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c68a1ca3f2150198cc1159cf63a03dd98a99f1b5
I recently tried DND Nail Lacquer's Green Forest, AK in my daily life, and I must say I'm quite impressed. The color is a beautiful deep green that reminded me of autumn leaves, and the shine was top-notch - giving it a glossy finish that lasted for three weeks without any signs of chipping or peeling. The product soaked off easily and quickly in about 10-15 minutes, which was a definite highlight for me.
However, one minor issue I noticed was the application process. It took slightly longer than expected due to its slightly thicker consistency compared to other nail lacquers I've used before. Despite this minor hiccup, DND Nail Lacquer still gets a thumbs up from me. Not only does it offer an impressive variety of colors at affordable prices, but also, being made in the USA adds to its overall appeal. The product's longevity and easy removal make it worth trying if you're in search of a high-quality nail lacquer that lasts.
One thing to keep in mind is that the color might appear slightly different on your device due to screen variations. Always do your research before making a purchase, but overall, I recommend giving this nail lacquer a shot. It's definitely worth the investment!

đź”—Dark Green DND Nail Lacquer - Long Lasting & Easy to Apply

https://preview.redd.it/qcclr8ilg42d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3485fbfbdb8f3192d5895e3a92108f7f1cf25ed9
I recently came across the DND Nail Lacquer in 785 Green Colors and I've been using it for the last couple of weeks. It's a top-notch product with a high gloss finish that lasts for up to three weeks without any chipping or peeling. Plus, it only takes 10-15 minutes to remove, so it's quite hassle-free compared to some other nail polishes I've used in the past.
One of the standout features of this product is the incredible range of 379 colors available. I can't count the number of times I've been stuck in a nail salon, unable to find that perfect shade, but with DND's collection, we're spoilt for choice! I particularly love how fast they apply and how they feel thinner and more comfortable than other polishes I've tried. And did I mention that this professional quality nail polish is made in the USA?
However, there is a slight snag - the colors can look a bit different on different screens. I don't think it's a significant issue, but I do wish there was a better way to sample the colors before purchasing. That said, the overall quality and performance of DND Nail Lacquer are worth the investment. I'm already planning on trying out some other shades soon!

đź”—DND Gel Polish - Green Forest, AK (568)

https://preview.redd.it/s19k3mmlg42d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45b608cc20acc27dac665bc5d0e437aef2ba33e7
I recently tried out DND's Green Forest 568 gel polish for a fun change to my regular mani-pedi routine, and I must say, I'm absolutely in love with it! This product offers a high gloss shine that lasts for up to three weeks with no chipping or peeling, making it a perfect choice for those of us who lead busy lives and don't have the time to touch up our nails every other day.
One of the highlights of this gel polish is how easy it is to apply. The brush glides smoothly over your nails, allowing for quick and even coverage. Plus, with its LED and UV curing technology, you can be sure that your color will set perfectly in no time at all. I also appreciated how quick the removal process was; using only 10-15 minutes to soak off the polish without causing any damage to my natural nail.
However, there were a few cons that I encountered during my experience with this product. Firstly, the color may appear different on your monitor compared to when it's applied on your nails, which can lead to some unexpected surprises when choosing your desired shade. Additionally, the consistency of the polish can be on the thicker side, making it slightly more challenging to work with than other gels I've tried in the past.
Despite these minor setbacks, I would still highly recommend giving DND's Green Forest 568 gel polish a try. With its long-lasting wear and easy application process, it's definitely worth considering for your next at-home manicure!

đź”—DND Professional Glossy Dark Green Nails

https://preview.redd.it/cqy2gs0mg42d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05895ad7937394ee6b83e571d5c5c544f9bf95db
My experience with 790 Divine Green has been an absolute delight. The gel polish lasts for weeks without any chipping or peeling, which is a massive win for me since I'm always on the go. The application process is straightforward, following the 3 step system perfectly. The color selection is vast, and I absolutely love the professional finish it gives to my nails - not to mention the countless compliments I receive from friends and family alike!
However, I'll be honest, some colors could be a little more opaque as I've found certain ones to be quite sheer, requiring multiple coats. This can be a bit time-consuming, but the end result is worth the effort. Another minor downside is the scent of the polish, it's not overbearing but it's definitely noticeable.
Overall, I'm thoroughly happy with my purchase. The 790 Divine Green is a game-changer for me, helping me achieve that flawless, long-lasting manicure that I've always desired. The ease of application and the stunning array of colors available have made it a staple in my beauty routine. Sure, there might be some cons but for me, the pros significantly outweigh them.
Product Review Content:
My personal journey with the 790 Divine Green has been an outstanding one. Imagine the joy of having a professional-looking, long-lasting manicure without the hassle of frequent touch-ups. This product has made my dream a reality!
From the get-go, following the 3 step system was a breeze. Each layer of the polish added just the right amount of color and gloss, leaving me with a stunning final result that's been receiving non-stop compliments.
However, as with every product, there's room for improvement. Some colors tend to be quite sheer, requiring additional coats to achieve the desired opacity. This may be time-consuming, but the end result is truly magnificent. Another minor issue is the scent of the polish. It's not overpowering, but it is noticeable.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I would highly recommend the 790 Divine Green. The ease of use, the stunning array of colors, and the professional-looking finish make it an excellent addition to any beauty routine. If you're looking for a reliable, long-lasting option for your nails, look no further!

đź”—Arctic Fox Phantom Green Vegan Nail Polish

https://preview.redd.it/8uedv6nmg42d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e3276d69b81add7cea349205501b154cca2ddf0
I've been using this nail polish for a while now, and I must say it's a game changer. The color, Phantom Green, is stunning and definitely gives off a unique vibe. It's perfect for those who want to stand out in a crowd, or for someone trying to match their nail color with their outfit.
The one thing that truly impressed me about this nail polish is its longevity. I'm not exaggerating when I say it lasts for days without chipping, even with my hands-on work. This has made my life so much easier - no more worrying about constant touch-ups!
However, there's one small issue that I found. Its drying time can be quite long, especially if you're impatient like me. You need to give it some extra minutes for it to completely dry, which can be a bit of a hassle.
In terms of application, I'll give it a thumbs up. The brush is the right size, allowing for easy application. The formula is smooth, non-sticky, and not too thick, making it easy to spread evenly on the nails.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. The color is unique and eye-catching, the formula is long-lasting and chip-resistant, and the application process is smooth and easy. Despite the longer drying time, I'd say it's definitely worth trying out.

https://preview.redd.it/u4rkravmg42d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a99c54fa00468da8860da817d47209b95487c2f

Consider the Finish

The finish of your nail polish will have a significant impact on the overall look and feel of your manicure. Dark green nail polishes come in a variety of finishes, including creme, shimmer, Metallic, and glitter. Cream finishes offer a smooth, opaque coverage that's perfect for those who prefer a classic look. Shimmer finishes add a touch of glamour and dimension with micro-glitter particles, creating a subtle sheen. Metallic finishes have an almost liquid-like appearance, reflecting light and creating a bold and eye-catching effect. Glitter finishes are perfect for special occasions or when you want to make a statement, with a dense layer of glitter particles that create a dazzling, multidimensional appearance.

Choose the Right Undertone

Dark green nail polish comes in a range of undertones, from cool, blue-based tones to warm, yellow-based ones. The undertone you choose can help accentuate your skin tone and enhance your natural features. Cooler-toned dark greens, like emerald and forest green, complement those with cool, pink undertones in their skin. Warmer, yellow-based greens, like olive and khaki, look stunning on those with warm, golden undertones. If you're unsure about your skin's undertone, consider asking a friend or makeup artist for their opinion, or take an online quiz to determine your true skin tone.

Apply with Care

When applying a dark green nail polish, it's important to take your time and use a light touch. Darker colors can be more prone to streaking and dragging if applied too thickly or too quickly. Start by applying a base coat to protect your natural nails and promote longer-lasting color. Next, carefully apply one thin coat of dark green nail polish, being sure to smooth out any brush strokes as you go. Allow the first coat to dry completely, before applying a second thin coat for optimal coverage and depth. Finally, finish your manicure with a clear top coat to seal in the color and provide added shine and durability.

Experiment with Designs

Dark green nail polish is a versatile color that lends itself well to a variety of nail art designs. Whether you prefer simple, elegant looks or bold, statement-making manicures, there's a design to suit every style. For a classic look, consider applying a single coat of dark green nail polish and topping it off with a gold or silver accent nail. For those who love making a bold fashion statement, try incorporating dark green into an intricate nail art design, such as a floral, ombre, or geometric pattern. Don't be afraid to experiment with different colors and techniques to create a one-of-a-kind manicure that showcases your unique sense of style.
By keeping these tips in mind, you'll be well-equipped to choose and apply the perfect dark green nail polish for your needs. So go ahead and indulge in the rich, earthy tones of this stylish and versatile color, and enjoy the confidence and charm that comes with a stunning, sophisticated manicure.

2024.05.23 08:41 shsureddit9 Teaching on an off day

There is a yoga teacher who I follow named Izzy (Yoga Humans) and she sent out this passage in her email today. I liked it and wanted to share! Its technically related to yoga but I feel like it applies to teachers overall ❤️

"I also wanted to talk this week about one of the simplest tricks I’ve found to improve your yoga teaching. And it’s something I’m still working on. But it has to do with not apologizing or calling out your own mistakes as your teaching.
Like anything in yoga, teaching, and life, this has nuance. So let’s explore it.
One thing I’ve noticed with new teachers is they have a higher tendency to call themselves out when they make a mistake. So, they stumble over their words and they say something about it. Or they mess up a name and they say something about it. Usually it sounds like a little personal jab. Something like, “I can’t talk today” or “Sorry, I don’t know what’s wrong with me!”
Let me first say that it’s so natural for us to want to do that. In fact, I was teaching last night and I found myself saying something similar. It was one of those nights where I was stumbling over my words and I found myself saying something like, “words are hard for me tonight.” It’s such a human desire to call out our faults before anyone else does.
But from a student’s perspective, this is often more distracting than the slip-up would have been in the first place. Especially if the way you’re expressing it sounds like negative self-talk. You have to trust that your students aren’t down on you, and they don’t want you to be down on yourself, either.
I’ve seen this go a level deeper, too. Where a teacher feels they are messing up and they start to spiral downwards. You can see them getting a bit frazzled. You can see their energy start to shift.
That’s what we want to avoid. Because at the end of the day, we want to remind ourselves that we’re there for our students and their experience, not our own expectations of ourselves.
So here are a few things I try to keep in mind on an “off night”:
Number one: Remember that mistakes will happen and they will keep happening. We are human and that’s part of the beauty of practicing with a human. We make mistakes. You will make mistakes as a new teacher and as a longtime teacher. Just this Saturday I had half of my students facing one direction and half facing the other. Then, I proceeded to back up and I ran into one of my students! (Sorry, Tracy!). It’s all part of the job. And it’s okay to be off.
Number two: When you make a mistake, try to treat it with lightness, rather than criticism. Saying something like “Whoops!” or “Let’s try that again” is going to feel a lot better than “Oh gosh, I’m sorry.” If you can bring a little levity and humor into the moment, I promise that your students will laugh with you.
Number three: Some mistakes you can just breeze by entirely. You don’t have to call yourself out for every little thing. Many mistakes you should just breeze by, unless you have to make a course correction. In which case, do so! Say, “Alright, we’ve gotta go back.” No big deal.
Number four: Remember that it can actually can be unifying to see teachers make mistakes. It makes the experience less of a polished production. Teachers don’t have to be perfect. It helps reminds students that they don’t have to be perfect. There’s no such thing.
Number five: When and if you feel yourself getting flustered, try to remember that this one moment won’t define your class or your teaching. Tap back into your intention for your teaching: Giving the gift of yoga to another. Take a few breaths. Your students can be in silence for a moment. Then continue. Let the mistake slip away and keep on keeping on. Ask yourself: “How do I want to show up?” Then do your best to embody it.
Somedays we make more mistakes than others and it’s hard to pinpoint why. Some days we’re totally “on.” Celebrate both. You showed up, and that’s what matters.
It’s easy to overlook just how big of an energy pull it is to teach a yoga class. You’re crafting an experience. You’re holding space. You’re guiding others through breath, movement, and sometimes emotion. That’s a big job."

2024.05.23 08:40 Freddy_lang Understanding the Parking Indicator Objective in VHDL and Verilog

What is the Parking Indicator Objective?

The parking indicator system in a vehicle controls the left, right, and hazard turn signals. The objective is to create a digital circuit that reliably manages these signals, ensuring they flash correctly and respond appropriately to the driver's inputs. This involves designing control logic, handling inputs, managing outputs, and maintaining precise timing.

Key Objectives of a Parking Indicator System

  1. Control Logic:
    • Develop a digital system that can switch between different states: off (IDLE), left turn, right turn, and hazard (both indicators flashing).
    • Ensure the system can interpret and respond to inputs like switches or sensors.
  2. Input Management:
    • Handle inputs from switches that indicate the driver's intent (e.g., turning left or right, engaging hazard lights).
    • Implement debouncing to filter out any noise or false signals from mechanical switches.
  3. Output Management:
    • Drive the output signals to the vehicle's indicator lights (LEDs or bulbs) correctly based on the control logic.
    • Ensure that the indicators flash at a regular and consistent rate (typically about once per second).
  4. Finite State Machine (FSM):
    • Design an FSM to manage the operational states of the indicators.
    • Define clear transitions between states based on input conditions.
  5. Timing Control:
    • Use counters or timers to control the blink rate of the indicators.
    • Ensure the timing is precise to provide a consistent flashing pattern.

Designing the FSM

The core of our parking indicator system is a Finite State Machine (FSM). Here’s a breakdown:
Transitions: The FSM transitions between these states based on inputs from the driver. For example:

Implementing Timing Control

To achieve the correct blink rate (typically 1 Hz for most vehicles), a timer or counter is used. This ensures that the indicators flash on and off at a regular interval. In a VHDL or Verilog implementation, this is usually done with a clock divider that generates a signal with the desired period.

Managing Inputs and Outputs

Inputs: These are usually binary signals from switches. Debouncing logic is essential to ensure clean transitions.
Outputs: The output signals drive the vehicle's indicators. Based on the current FSM state and the timer, the outputs are toggled to create the blinking effect.

Practical Example (Without Code)

Imagine you're designing a parking indicator system for a vehicle:
  1. Define the FSM States: Start with the states (IDLE, LEFT, RIGHT, HAZARD).
  2. Handle Inputs: Create logic to read and debounce input signals from the switches.
  3. Create Timing Logic: Implement a counter to generate a 1 Hz blinking signal.
  4. Control Outputs: Use the FSM state and the blinking signal to control the left and right indicators.

Why VHDL and Verilog?

VHDL and Verilog are powerful hardware description languages that allow you to model and simulate digital circuits. They are widely used in the industry for designing complex systems. Learning these languages and understanding how to apply them to real-world problems, like a parking indicator system, provides invaluable experience.

Conclusion

Designing a parking indicator system using VHDL or Verilog is an excellent project for anyone interested in digital design. It covers essential concepts like FSMs, input/output handling, and precise timing control. Whether you're working on a personal project or a school assignment, mastering these skills will enhance your understanding and capability in hardware design.

2024.05.23 08:38 jorthorse Civil Engineering program experiences?

Hi everyone. I’m currently a student at UBCV in sciences interested in majoring in Geographical Sciences with a concentration in hydrology to hopefully work in water resources in the future. After looking at jobs, it seems that civil engineers also do this type of work and then some. I applied to transfer faculties but just missed the cutoff for engineering at the Vancouver campus, but was accepted at Okanagan. I was wondering if anyone could share their experience in the civil engineering program (things like co-op and future job opportunities). I’m not too psyched at the prospect of moving to Kelowna as I’ve lived in Vancouver my whole life, but I would be willing to do it if that meant I could get the job I want in the future more easily.

[Student] Applying for first job in Europe (France, Netherlands, Germany) looking for feedback
I will finish my Masters in 2 months and have been applying for jobs for the past two months and have only gotten rejections. I did study in France (Bachelor + Master), but I studied in English, so I don't speak French. So, I am looking for English-speaking jobs in Europe and Nepal (my Home country). I would also need a visa sponsorship to work in Europe. My School provided the template, and I feel the Main courses and Main Tools & Languages in the Education section just make the section really long. Any advice on how I can restructure it would be appreciated.

2024.05.23 08:36 MotherBike Is it weird to have a sort of kink (not sure if it's the right word??) where I somewhat crave confrontation?

To elaborate I used to be absolutely terrified of confrontation in any format, but after working on myself I now find myself weirdly (almost daily) fantasizing about getting into an AVERAGE confrontation. Some examples include telling an old curmudgeonly person to take their rant elsewhere because they are making other people uncomfortable, being mistaken for a clerk in an establishment I don't work at, discovering people doing banned activities in my place of actual employment, etc., but it's not always a power trip thing. Let's take the mistaken identity one, I'm obsessed with the fact that if someone did that to me and genuinely didn't know better I'd love to assist them anyway I can just because I don't mind being helpful.
So I think I may have an obsession with confrontational scenes involving myself? Might this be my silly little brain actually using and applying the mental work I've done to overcome the previous fear of confrontation? On one hand I think it's not unhealthy as only 20% of the fantasizing actually involves holding some sort of power over others, and the other 80% is dumb shit that's highly situational and nuanced. Genuinely curious if your thoughts and feelings have or are the same when it comes to confrontation.
Ironically I've been getting into a lot of situations I've had to deescalate lately, but as waking life has consequences I have been coding my responses in these situations to avoid getting heat. The closest I've come to falling short was actually today, some older man was huffy the prices went up, and I really wanted to tell him You're still gonna pay the increase sir because you need your snacks and beverages to occupy your mouth so you don't have to speak to your wife during the presentation.
What slipped out was I agree it is expense, but I have no control over that.
What almost slipped out was I agree it is expensive, but if you could generously donate a million dollars we can see the price go down again as this is an old ass building that requires a lot of work. Can't make the donation? That's okay you should be able to afford a 3$ Hershey Bar that's 1.50$ down the road.

2024.05.23 08:34 Electrical-Hold-1801 Been to ER during my transition to vegan---now I am reconsidering my food choice

My experience
I have been to recently ER since my stomach is in great pain and keep producing gas and bloating. I can barely walk that day, even breathing makes me painful. But the doctors there do not find anything wrong with my blood/other tests. I went back to home after they gave me those pain-killing medicine and ask me to eat bland diet and prescribe me medicine to treat stomach ulcers symptoms. They told me my stomach pain might be because of gas/stomach ulcers' problem.
background:
I am a male who has high cholesterol--around 187 LDL. My previous primary care told me that I should switch to vegan and take statin. My previous PCP is pro-vegan. I have reduced meat, egg, diary gradually and increased fibers--fruits, vegetables including strawberry, watermelon, grape, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, spinach, cabbage. Most of them are consumed in raw. And I also reduce my fine grain/carb intake.
During my transitioning, I have experienced some stomach pain and bloating several months ago and it keeps happening. I thought it might be caused by my body's adjustment to vegan and the small amount of meat(chicken/fish) is the culprit. However, my academic work and exercise still require me to use a lot of energy. I have to eat a lot of vegetables and fruits with small amount of fine carbon and chicken to maintain my energy level.
However, for recent 3 months, my symptoms from stomach have become worse--excess of gas and bloating. And I feel constantly hungry. When I come to cardiologist to examine my blood work last month, they told me my cholesterol is very good. I think it might be the help of statin and my switch to vegan. I have eaten more vegetables recently because of the increase of physical activity in summer. I ignore those stomach pain/ bloating/gas/high frequency pooping since my poop looks good. My blood work looks good.
One day, I ate 2 flatbreads and strawberries and onions, lettuce and carrots in great amount to keep me from hungry. The consumption exceeds my normal intake. I also drink some lemonade water and small amount of chicken meat. I don't eat anything else that day and ignore the bloating/gas from my stomach. However, the next morning, my abdomen is in great pain so I went to ER. I have never been painful like that.
When I came back to home, I need to contact gastrointestinal specialist and I need to find a new PCP first to get a referral to the GI department in that hospital.
Before that, I try to find the problem by myself. I thought it might be the problem of meat/fine carbon consumption. Then I order some asian food like beef noodles and fried rice with spicy chicken--fine carbon/red meat. I did not take any pain killer and keep eating that way for two day to see if anything suddenly become worse. What's interesting is that my stomach pain/bloating has been greatly reduced even compared to those days before I went to ER.
Now I switched to the fine carbon/grain/meat/small amount of fruit mode before I meet specialist. I still take small amount of statin to keep my cholesterol low. My stomach feels much better than before.
Some thoughts:
This kind of experience makes me wonder if I should go to a full-vegan mode.
I know that veggie might not be the cause of ER visiting. There are many other culprits. I should see a GI specialist before I decide what I should eat.
But I keep suspecting many "beneficial" claims about vegetarian and especially when those claims involve low fine carb, "raw, natural" vegetables. If I have to keep my energy level without fine carb(rice/grain...), I have to consume many raw vegetables/fruits. But raw vegetables/fruits can be contaminated and it can have many toxin. No one can guarantee if those raw food is safe through the supply chain.
I suspect many research about nutrition are unreliable even if they came from some very prestigious place. I don't think only the vegan-related research has this problem
Many observational research based on statistical analysis can be extremely unreliable. Some nutrition research can not set a proper control and compare different groups validly. Some schools can not even teach statistics properly...
My research area is applied math. I took some statistical course like regression. Once, in a course, I told a stat professor that we can not interpret the statistics properly because of the data/inconsistency from computation. But that guy told me that I expect you to "diagnose the data, interpret them, reach conclusion".This kind of attitude really baffles me. And I heard many researchers keep publishing paper in the similar ways.
I don't want to blame them and discredit all their research. But putting our health on those research seems to be risky

2024.05.23 08:34 AVXRY-LGR Do airlines call your former flight school where you instructed??

TLDR: Our chief flight instructor is trying to leave our flight school and he kept his leaving low key so he thinks the owner of the flight school was called by the airline for a reference and the owner disparaged him.
The chief flight instructor at my flight school applied to an airline and pass the interview process. The interviewer called him and said that after calling his references they had a lot to consider because although he was qualified some references said things about his character that raised some red flags. The chief flight instructor (let’s call him Keith) believes the flight school(medium size 60+ full time students) we currently work for said disparaging things about him to get Keith to stay at the flight school. The chief flight instructor is not easily replaceable and very valuable to the school and the owner is kind of shady, known to take short cuts and often late with pay. Keith has tried to leave before but the owner begged him to stay to train a new chief flight instructor but no inside or outside candidate wants to take the position because for the high level of qualifications and 60+ hours of work a week the pay is really low. Keith is trying to leave and he kept his leaving low key so he thinks the owner of the flight school was called by the airline for a reference and the owner disparaged him.

2024.05.23 08:32 Ok-Job9073 What should I do to become competitive for this program?

Hello everyone,
I was accepted to Oregon State University's post-bacc program in computer science, which takes about 2 years and results in a B.S. in computer science. However, I'm seriously considering not enrolling and instead applying to the MCIT and possibly other grad school programs.
My first degree was in psychology, a B.S. where I took up to Calculus 2, but I took Precalc, Calc 1, and Calc 2 as PASS/no pass courses (I passed all of them). I started at community college with a 3.2 GPA and transferred to UCSD for upper division, where I earned a 3.8 GPA.
I have very limited programming experience. My biggest exposure was an intro to Python course at UCSD, which I took for PASS/NO PASS because I wasn't thinking ahead. I really enjoyed it but haven't practiced since graduating.
I graduated about 4 years ago, so getting a letter of recommendation now would be challenging. I'm considering taking some community college courses in computer science and discrete math, but I've heard that this could make me overqualified for the MCIT if I'm not careful.
I need letters of recommendation, which I could get from community college professors if I take courses with them. I’ve also heard about taking MOOCs, but since I work full-time, managing both CC courses and MOOCs might be tough. Plus, those CC courses could count toward prerequisites at other master's programs.
I hope to work in software development or engineering.
What do you think is my best path forward if I'm very interested in this program?
Thank you
