Ren zu wasn't just any Gu, he was THE Gu.

2024.05.08 01:00 Proof_Lunch5171 Ren zu wasn't just any Gu, he was THE Gu.

Hmm, it seems this sub lately has been filled with a bunch of ignorant children lacking guidance. In that case, let me, the Dao transmission ancestor transmit and preach the Dao so you mere mortals can gain enlightenment. The identity of Ren zu is a question that has stumped the minds of a lot of people here. Most are unable to even conceive or grasp a good answer while the rest know the direction but end up with incoherent and unsystematic answers but no matter, that is why I am here after all.
First of all, what is the great Dao? The great Dao refers wholly to everything in existence, whether they be rules, physical matter, life or even abstract concepts. They are all contained with the great Dao. In world of RI, the great Dao represents order, existence, stability while chaos represents the opposite and needs no introduction to your feeble minds. Understanding this, we then ask, what's a path? if the great Dao is everything that exists then a path can in a sense be viewed as an attempt to impose order upon the perceptually chaotic nature that existence feels to humans. Think of real-world analogous examples like the sciences and arts and their various subdisciplines each tackling a distinct part of the world. This property can be applied to the understanding of paths, seeing paths as a distinct aspect of the great Dao. The distinct is quite important because it means that any given path will be its own thing with its own properties and features and will be high level and exclusive to a degree. In the exploration of these distinct aspects, cultivators make direct use of the laws that make up these paths in the form of a special existence referred to as a Gu. These Gu can be regarded as the physical crystallizations of the laws of heaven and earth and from that understanding they can also be viewed as the essences of heavens and the earth. These Gu allow one to make direct use of the laws of the world without a need to understand or even know those laws. From this fact, one can clearly see how these Gu can be instrumental in comprehending the mechanics and operations of the world and all its constituents.
Now that a basic understanding has been established, let us return to the primary subject matter, Ren zu's identity. What exactly do I mean by THE Gu? well, I am naturally referring to the foundational Gu of the human path. What is this foundational Gu you might ask, well as has been established earlier Gu are the physical representation of laws and paths are also made out of laws too. If a path is a distinct aspect of the great Dao, then it stands to reason that there exist laws that give these paths their distinct property. Basically, that most primary law that makes up the true essence and distinction of a path, the foundational Gu is the Gu that represents this primary essence. Every path we have encountered will have their own foundational Gu and we have seen a few appear in the book itself. We have wisdom Gu for wisdom path, strength Gu for strength path, fire Gu for fire path, change form for transformation path, light Gu for light path, time Gu foe time path, etc. Naturally we haven't seen all the foundational Gu but it is certain they all exist.
And for human path, Renzu himself should be its foundational Gu. Born from the human Gu (speculated name) in the blue sea of life, Ren zu can be regarded as the human ancestor and the progenitor of all humans and variant humans. Because it from him and the path he represents that all humans and variant humans come from. This also explains why he has an unparalleled physique and talent towards all path and can literally give birth to the most profound lifeforms by sacrificing a part of himself. It could also explain why he can talk with other Gu with him being a Gu himself. As a lifeform born from the truest essence of human path, how can he be simple and unprofound. Plus the fact that human path along with heaven path are the two most foundational paths from which other paths are derived, it is clear that Ren zu himself will be a special existence, with a soul and body that from birth allows him to use rank 9 Gu from various paths like they are nothing or his immense contributions and talent in human path, so high level that only descendants at the venerable level can make use of them. The lifeforms he gave birth to are strong and profound enough to actually affect Venerables and the extreme physiques are usually invincible within the same rank. If just his remnants are this capable then talk less of the main man himself. In my view, when it comes to profundity only the Gu world itself is comparable to Ren zu which I speculate is similarly also an existence born from the foundational Gu of heaven path but that is another matter altogether.
I made this post in reaction to a post of similar topic that I saw, and I hope that my explanations were clear and convincing enough for people to consider seriously the possibilities. This post could also be used as a groundwork for the development of novel ideas

2024.05.07 21:41 Immediate_Guide3748 Absolutely devastated

This is a follow up for those of you who have been following my story.
Quick recap: I was previously diagnosed with infertility and given a 2-4% chance of conceiving. Miraculously I ended up pregnant (currently 7w). But we recently found out my husbands grandfather has Huntingtons so we did an expedited test for my husbands results. We were certain he would be negative because his mom is 53 and in good health, but that was not the case.
Results came back CAG 41 positive. I am absolutely devastated. We will now have to go through PGT amniocentesis testing and terminate the pregnancy if positive. I feel shock, anger, devastation, fear. The anger is unbearable. How can a world like this exist? Not only am I dealing with the grief of knowing my husband will develop this disease, but If I have to terminate this pregnancy I don’t know how I will survive. No one prepared me for this cruel cruel world. I am sorry to everyone who is affected by this disease, I wish I could take the pain away from all of us. My heart is broken and I fear I have lost all hope for a future.

2024.05.07 17:53 Ok_Butterscotch_505 At a crossroads / considering egg donor

Myself (42)F and my husband (47)M have been together 7 years. We met just after I was diagnosed with POI and I was told by a fertility clinic at that time that my only path to motherhood was egg donation because there was a less than 1% chance I’d be able to have kids. It sounded expensive, logistically and legally/ethically complicated and we were in a new relationship so I didn’t push it, he seemed like for him kids weren’t a priority and if a baby was not biologically both of ours he was not interested. I read up on donor conceived children a bit at the time and I couldn’t find many resources and I was grieving my own biological future. We also were hoping maybe we could beat the odds and it would happen naturally.
I tried to be grateful for what I did have and put efforts into our wedding, planning family events for our parents, getting us a new home and I’ve been working with a infertility therapist to help me deal my feelings of regret of not being a mother. I try to be a good aunt to my nieces and nephews, I have fur babies and I put any extra love into my garden to help me cope. The feeling hasn’t gone away and I really struggled recently when doing a post grad certificate in women’s leadership where the other women my age constantly talked about how proud they were of their children. Ive always excelled at a very tech focused career, surrounded mostly by men so I think this was a real eye opener. I finally opened up to my husband about my sense of worth being tied to being a mother and I think he finally understood me. He’s frustrated that I didn’t open up sooner, but I often brought it up and he would always say to me to make an appointment with the therapist because he didn’t know how to help.
He now says we can explore the egg donation route but he’s concerned with being an older father and how he would “need to grow up”. He also admitted as he sees his parents age, and his sister have her children he wonders why we didn’t pursue this earlier, but he forgets I did bring it up and he had been stubborn or not willing to discuss it. We have made a couples appointment with my fertility therapist to discuss 3rd party reproduction so we can learn more and we will be getting a new consultation with the fertility clinic in the next month.
Work stress has really affected my mental health lately with school and working full time, but I’ve had some hope now that I haven’t felt in years because of the potential to be a mom. I think I finally came to terms with using an egg donor, and financially we can do it now. Although I t really seems like it’s me driving the bus on this and my husband is willing to be on the ride. I’m sure he will be a great father and never look back, but I know the hoops and costs ahead for us are huge so in the back of my head I do think sometimes if I could bury this feeling it might be better for everyone. But then I wonder what I worked so hard for in my career, because to me it was only a way I was going to support my eventual family. At a total crossroads and it’s been a struggle just getting to this point.

2024.05.07 15:15 Esme_Higginds How to cope when FMIL finds out I’m pregnant?

CW
So me and my partner have said that once we have moved into our house, got settled etc we will start trying for a baby, I can only imagine how this is going to go down with the FMIL.
First of all she’s definitely going to say I’m trying to “baby trap” him 😭😭 (he was the one who said he was ready) we had the conversation and I asked “so when are you going to be ready do you think” and he was the one who said once we are settled he’s ready. (I will be to but just to make is clear I wasn’t the once who said first) but it’s still going to be me that’s the bad guy 🤦🏼‍♀️ it’s going to be difficult for me to conceive naturally anyway so I’m probably not going to get pregnant in the first 2 years. Any advice on how to cope with her when I’m pregnant? We are NC/LC but once she finds out I’m pregnant she will go feral. I need to be careful when pregnant, I have had a miscarriage due to stress and other things before, and have been told when I next have a baby I need to be extra careful in pregnancy. She will cause stress. She’s that type of person. Don’t say I can block her, because I already have. She will find a way out if it. She’s already contacted my friends, family. Me and my partner have said she won’t be having contact with our kids. She’s too violent and is a alcoholic. I’ve came a long way since my addiction and I won’t put a child in that situation. Personally I’m scared, she’s the type of person to make things up and spread it around. What if she goes to social services? She’s a grand manipulator, she’s made everyone believe I lied about R@pe, she’s saying I am abusing my partner. I’ve already let social services know this could be the case and they have made a note, so that’s eased my mind a little. She’s fucking evil. I won’t be able to deal with the stress.
I wanted her to be involved. I was excited to go baby shopping, to see her hold baby first time in the hospital, family days out, we tried. I kills me my kids will only have one grandmother. Will this affect baby? Will they have me for it? What if it’s the wrong decision. Me and my partner have had multiple conversations about it. But there’s still a part of me that thinks it’s wrong to keep the kids from her. Anyone else feel like this?

2024.05.07 09:07 BadgerSharp6258 I'm in serious trouble

Trigger warning: mentions of binging and bulimia.
Would it be a good idea to start weaning if my
-mental health is extremely volatile .. I can go from 0 to 100 within 10 minutes or so.. im prone to snapping..at my husband, my older kids.. . My sleep levels are deprived. I am eating whatever is in front of me. Ive been using edibles to cope after not using since for a whole year. .. . my thinking is extremely black/white. I'm anxious. I haven't seen my friends in over 2 months. I'm 5 ft straight and 60 pounds overweight. I used to be 129 pounds now I am 189 pounds. Moving my body hurts.
My baby is thriving tho. I show her all my love. I conceived her while i was in the best shape of my life and I do not harbor any negative feelings towards her. She is an amazing baby. I could not have been blessed with any other baby other than her. I am glad I had her
Now that I've disclaimed that
I've had a binge eating episode today. I ate way more than I should literally 1 food item/meal after the other in total of 3 bigish portioned meals and polished off 2 large sugar donuts so quickly. I almost couldn't even think about the trance I was in. I did eat edibles in the morning tho because I had a panic attack last night and a mental breakdown that lasted until 3am. Anywho..
When I got back home today from being out and about I felt so sick to my soul. I had no choice but to throw up (forcefully) in order to alleviate the nausea of all the food in me. . I have not been bulimic since my early 20s ..i relapsed in my early 30s. It gave me flashbacks of my consistent bulimia episodes when I used to do it all the time. I know now that doing it is more harmful than beneficial so I'm most likely not going to fall back in the bad habit-
What's dangerous is the control I felt I had after.... which is not healthy. It's a lie.
Considering weaning now by the time my girl hits 1 year. She will be 11 months on May 11.. I was planning on going the whole 2 years but I'm thinking my weight gain/ lack of self confidence and esteem is fully affecting my mental health and my marriage.
Problem is - my baby loves breastfeeding. She's absolutely in love with it. Nothing calms her more than I can .. breastfeeding is literally her ultimate comfort...it breaks my heart for me to even consider weaning rn... even though I'm suffering...and the kicker is im not even sure how soon the weight will fall off once I stop (I'm not one of the lucky ones where Breastfeeding burns belly fat / calories. My body holds on to everything.) how do I know my metabolism isn't also affected ?? I could fluctuate 5 pounds from day to day even tho I try to not overeat. I must be doing a lot wrong.
Wwyd if you were me?
Sorry for the word vomit. I have nobody to talk to. 😔
Edit: thank you x100 to all the kind users who realized my mental health is at a fragile state and chose kindness and non judgment You guys are the reason reaching out helps me feel less alone. Thank you.
And to all the people who comment judgment- you're not perfect. Why are you even here? To hit me when I'm down? Thanks but pls do not comment on my post. I don't need to be told how much of a shit person I am when I'm suffering.
Update: I have an appt this coming Friday at my old clinic I used to go to. They've reopened my case and I meet with a counselor to go over what I'm going thru. I'm not sure if meds are on the table just yet. I'll not be weaning yet until that's sorted. I have not taken another edible and I'm sticking to healthier food options for now. Thank you all. 🙏🏼

2024.05.07 08:15 No-Customer-9172 potential complications associated with PCOS and PCOD

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Disorder) are conditions that can lead to various complications, affecting both physical and reproductive health. Here are some potential complications associated with PCOS and PCOD:
  1. Infertility: One of the most significant complications of PCOS and PCOD is infertility. Irregular ovulation or lack of ovulation can make it difficult for women to conceive.
  2. Increased Risk of Type 2 Diabetes: Insulin resistance, a common feature of PCOS/PCOD, can lead to high blood sugar levels and an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
  3. Gestational Diabetes: Women with PCOS/PCOD have a higher risk of developing gestational diabetes during pregnancy, which can lead to complications for both the mother and baby if not managed properly.
  4. High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) and Heart Disease: PCOS/PCOD is associated with an increased risk of developing high blood pressure and heart disease, especially in women who are overweight or obese.
  5. Endometrial Cancer:Irregular or absent menstrual cycles can lead to the buildup of the uterine lining (endometrium), increasing the risk of endometrial cancer in women with PCOS/PCOD.
  6. Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome: Many women with PCOS/PCOD struggle with weight management and are at an increased risk of developing obesity and metabolic syndrome, which is a cluster of conditions including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels.
  7. Sleep Apnea:PCOS/PCOD is associated with an increased risk of sleep apnea, a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep.
  8. Depression and Anxiety: Hormonal imbalances and the challenges associated with managing symptoms of PCOS/PCOD can contribute to depression and anxiety in some women.
  9. Hirsutism and Acne: Excess levels of androgens (male hormones) in women with PCOS/PCOD can lead to symptoms such as hirsutism (excessive hair growth on the face, chest, and back) and acne.
  10. Complications during Pregnancy: Women with PCOS/PCOD have an increased risk of pregnancy complications, including miscarriage, preeclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy), and premature birth.
It's essential for women with PCOS/PCOD to work closely with their healthcare providers to manage their symptoms and reduce their risk of complications. Lifestyle modifications, such as maintaining a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and managing stress, can help improve symptoms and reduce the risk of associated complications. Additionally, medication may be prescribed to help regulate menstrual cycles, lower insulin levels, and manage other symptoms. Regular monitoring and screening for related conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, are also important for overall health and well-being.

2024.05.07 07:16 HinduVoice Macaulay's Minute on Education, February 2, 1835

Source: https://home.iitk.ac.in/~hcverma/Article/Macaulay-Minutes.pdf
As it seems to be the opinion of some of the gentlemen who compose the Committee of Public Instruction that the course which they have hitherto pursued was strictly prescribed by the British Parliament in 1813 and as, if that opinion be correct, a legislative act will be necessary to warrant a change, I have thought it right to refrain from taking any part in the preparation of the adverse statements which are now before us, and to reserve what I had to say on the subject till it should come before me as a Member of the Council of India.
It does not appear to me that the Act of Parliament can by any art of contraction be made to bear the meaning which has been assigned to it. It contains nothing about the particular languages or sciences which are to be studied. A sum is set apart "for the revival and promotion of literature, and the encouragement of the learned natives of India, and for the introduction and promotion of a knowledge of the sciences among the inhabitants of the British territories." It is argued, or rather taken for granted, that by literature the Parliament can have meant only Arabic and Sanscrit literature; that they never would have given the honourable appellation of "a learned native" to a native who was familiar with the poetry of Milton, the metaphysics of Locke, and the physics of Newton; but that they meant to designate by that name only such persons as might have studied in the sacred books of the Hindoos all the uses of cusa-grass, and all the mysteries of absorption into the Deity. This does not appear to be a very satisfactory interpretation. To take a parallel case: Suppose that the Pacha of Egypt, a country once superior in knowledge to the nations of Europe, but now sunk far below them, were to appropriate a sum for the purpose "of reviving and promoting literature, and encouraging learned natives of Egypt," would any body infer that he meant the youth of his Pachalik to give years to the study of hieroglyphics, to search into all the doctrines disguised under the fable of Osiris, and to ascertain with all possible accuracy the ritual with which cats and onions were anciently adored? Would he be justly charged with inconsistency if, instead of employing his young subjects in deciphering obelisks, he were to order them to be instructed in the English and French languages, and in all the sciences to which those languages are the chief keys?
The words on which the supporters of the old system rely do not bear them out, and other words follow which seem to be quite decisive on the other side. This lakh of rupees is set apart not only for "reviving literature in India," the phrase on which their whole interpretation is founded, but also "for the introduction and promotion of a knowledge of the sciences among the inhabitants of the British territories"-words which are alone sufficient to authorize all the changes for which I contend.
If the Council agree in my construction no legislative act will be necessary. If they differ from me, I will propose a short act rescinding that I clause of the Charter of 1813 from which the difficulty arises.
The argument which I have been considering affects only the form of proceeding. But the admirers of the oriental system of education have used another argument, which, if we admit it to be valid, is decisive against all change. They conceive that the public faith is pledged to the present system, and that to alter the appropriation of any of the funds which have hitherto been spent in encouraging the study of Arabic and Sanscrit would be downright spoliation. It is not easy to understand by what process of reasoning they can have arrived at this conclusion. The grants which are made from the public purse for the encouragement of literature differ in no respect from the grants which are made from the same purse for other objects of real or supposed utility. We found a sanitarium on a spot which we suppose to be healthy. Do we thereby pledge ourselves to keep a sanitarium there if the result should not answer our expectations? We commence the erection of a pier. Is it a violation of the public faith to stop the works, if we afterwards see reason to believe that the building will be useless? The rights of property are undoubtedly sacred. But nothing endangers those rights so much as the practice, now unhappily too common, of attributing them to things to which they do not belong. Those who would impart to abuses the sanctity of property are in truth imparting to the institution of property the unpopularity and the fragility of abuses. If the Government has given to any person a formal assurance-nay, if the Government has excited in any person's mind a reasonable expectation-that he shall receive a certain income as a teacher or a learner of Sanscrit or Arabic, I would respect that person's pecuniary interests. I would rather err on the side of liberality to individuals than suffer the public faith to be called in question. But to talk of a Government pledging itself to teach certain languages and certain sciences, though those languages may become useless, though those sciences may be exploded, seems to me quite unmeaning. There is not a single word in any public instrument from which it can be inferred that the Indian Government ever intended to give any pledge on this subject, or ever considered the destination of these funds as unalterably fixed. But, had it been otherwise, I should have denied the competence of our predecessors to bind us by any pledge on such a subject. Suppose that a Government had in the last century enacted in the most solemn manner that all its subjects should, to the end of time, be inoculated for the small-pox, would that Government be bound to persist in the practice after Jenner's discovery? These promises of which nobody claims the performance, and from which nobody can grant a release, these vested rights which vest in nobody, this property without proprietors, this robbery which makes nobody poorer, may be comprehended by persons of higher faculties than mine. I consider this plea merely as a set form of words, regularly used both in England and in India, in defence of every abuse for which no other plea can be set up.
I hold this lakh of rupees to be quite at the disposal of the Governor-General in Council for the purpose of promoting learning in India in any way which may be thought most advisable. I hold his Lordship to be quite as free to direct that it shall no longer be employed in encouraging Arabic and Sanscrit, as he is to direct that the reward for killing tigers in Mysore shall be diminished, or that no more public money shall be expended on the chaunting at the cathedral.
We now come to the gist of the matter. We have a fund to be employed as Government shall direct for the intellectual improvement of the people of this country. The simple question is, what is the most useful way of employing it?
All parties seem to be agreed on one point, that the dialects commonly spoken among the natives of this part of India contain neither literary nor scientific information, and are moreover so poor and rude that, until they are enriched from some other quarter, it will not be easy to translate any valuable work into them. It seems to be admitted on all sides, that the intellectual improvement of those classes of the people who have the means of pursuing higher studies can at present be affected only by means of some language not vernacular amongst them.
What then shall that language be? One-half of the committee maintain that it should be the English. The other half strongly recommend the Arabic and Sanscrit. The whole question seems to me to be-which language is the best worth knowing?
I have no knowledge of either Sanscrit or Arabic. But I have done what I could to form a correct estimate of their value. I have read translations of the most celebrated Arabic and Sanscrit works. I have conversed, both here and at home, with men distinguished by their proficiency in the Eastern tongues. I am quite ready to take the oriental learning at the valuation of the orientalists themselves. I have never found one among them who could deny that a single shelf of a good European library was worth the whole native literature of India and Arabia. The intrinsic superiority of the Western literature is indeed fully admitted by those members of the committee who support the oriental plan of education.
It will hardly be disputed, I suppose, that the department of literature in which the Eastern writers stand highest is poetry. And I certainly never met with any orientalist who ventured to maintain that the Arabic and Sanscrit poetry could be compared to that of the great European nations. But when we pass from works of imagination to works in which facts are recorded and general principles investigated, the superiority of the Europeans becomes absolutely immeasurable. It is, I believe, no exaggeration to say that all the historical information which has been collected from all the books written in the Sanscrit language is less valuable than what may be found in the most paltry abridgments used at preparatory schools in England. In every branch of physical or moral philosophy, the relative position of the two nations is nearly the same.
How then stands the case? We have to educate a people who cannot at present be educated by means of their mother-tongue. We must teach them some foreign language. The claims of our own language it is hardly necessary to recapitulate. It stands pre- eminent even among the languages of the West. It abounds with works of imagination not inferior to the noblest which Greece has bequeathed to us,-with models of every species of eloquence,-with historical composition, which, considered merely as narratives, have seldom been surpassed, and which, considered as vehicles of ethical and political instruction, have never been equaled-with just and lively representations of human life and human nature,-with the most profound speculations on metaphysics, morals, government, jurisprudence, trade,-with full and correct information respecting every experimental science which tends to preserve the health, to increase the comfort, or to expand the intellect of man. Whoever knows that language has ready access to all the vast intellectual wealth which all the wisest nations of the earth have created and hoarded in the course of ninety generations. It may safely be said that the literature now extant in
that language is of greater value than all the literature which three hundred years ago was extant in all the languages of the world together. Nor is this all. In India, English is the language spoken by the ruling class. It is spoken by the higher class of natives at the seats of Government. It is likely to become the language of commerce throughout the seas of the East. It is the language of two great European communities which are rising, the one in the south of Africa, the other in Australia,-communities which are every year becoming more important and more closely connected with our Indian empire. Whether we look at the intrinsic value of our literature, or at the particular situation of this country, we shall see the strongest reason to think that, of all foreign tongues, the English tongue is that which would be the most useful to our native subjects.
The question now before us is simply whether, when it is in our power to teach this language, we shall teach languages in which, by universal confession, there are no books on any subject which deserve to be compared to our own, whether, when we can teach European science, we shall teach systems which, by universal confession, wherever they differ from those of Europe differ for the worse, and whether, when we can patronize sound philosophy and true history, we shall countenance, at the public expense, medical doctrines which would disgrace an English farrier, astronomy which would move laughter in girls at an English boarding school, history abounding with kings thirty feet high and reigns thirty thousand years long, and geography made of seas of treacle and seas of butter.
We are not without experience to guide us. History furnishes several analogous cases, and they all teach the same lesson. There are, in modern times, to go no further, two memorable instances of a great impulse given to the mind of a whole society, of prejudices overthrown, of knowledge diffused, of taste purified, of arts and sciences planted in countries which had recently been ignorant and barbarous.
The first instance to which I refer is the great revival of letters among the Western nations at the close of the fifteenth and the beginning of the sixteenth century. At that time almost everything that was worth reading was contained in the writings of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Had our ancestors acted as the Committee of Public Instruction has hitherto noted, had they neglected the language of Thucydides and Plato, and the language of Cicero and Tacitus, had they confined their attention to the old dialects of our own island, had they printed nothing and taught nothing at the universities but chronicles in Anglo-Saxon and romances in Norman French,-would England ever have been what she now is? What the Greek and Latin were to the contemporaries of More and Ascham, our tongue is to the people of India. The literature of England is now more valuable than that of classical antiquity. I doubt whether the Sanscrit literature be as valuable as that of our Saxon and Norman progenitors. In some departments-in history for example-I am certain that it is much less so.
Another instance may be said to be still before our eyes. Within the last hundred and twenty years, a nation which had previously been in a state as barbarous as that in which our ancestors were before the Crusades has gradually emerged from the ignorance in which it was sunk, and has taken its place among civilized communities. I speak of Russia. There is now in that country a large educated class abounding with persons fit to
serve the State in the highest functions, and in nowise inferior to the most accomplished men who adorn the best circles of Paris and London. There is reason to hope that this vast empire which, in the time of our grandfathers, was probably behind the Punjab, may in the time of our grandchildren, be pressing close on France and Britain in the career of improvement. And how was this change effected? Not by flattering national prejudices; not by feeding the mind of the young Muscovite with the old women's stories which his rude fathers had believed; not by filling his head with lying legends about St. Nicholas; not by encouraging him to study the great question, whether the world was or not created on the 13th of September; not by calling him "a learned native" when he had mastered all these points of knowledge; but by teaching him those foreign languages in which the greatest mass of information had been laid up, and thus putting all that information within his reach. The languages of western Europe civilised Russia. I cannot doubt that they will do for the Hindoo what they have done for the Tartar.
And what are the arguments against that course which seems to be alike recommended by theory and by experience? It is said that we ought to secure the co- operation of the native public, and that we can do this only by teaching Sanscrit and Arabic.
I can by no means admit that, when a nation of high intellectual attainments undertakes to superintend the education of a nation comparatively ignorant, the learners are absolutely to prescribe the course which is to be taken by the teachers. It is not necessary however to say anything on this subject. For it is proved by unanswerable evidence, that we are not at present securing the co-operation of the natives. It would be bad enough to consult their intellectual taste at the expense of their intellectual health. But we are consulting neither. We are withholding from them the learning which is palatable to them. We are forcing on them the mock learning which they nauseate.
This is proved by the fact that we are forced to pay our Arabic and Sanscrit students while those who learn English are willing to pay us. All the declamations in the world about the love and reverence of the natives for their sacred dialects will never, in the mind of any impartial person, outweigh this undisputed fact, that we cannot find in all our vast empire a single student who will let us teach him those dialects, unless we will pay him.
I have now before me the accounts of the Mudrassa for one month, the month of December, 1833. The Arabic students appear to have been seventy-seven in number. All receive stipends from the public. The whole amount paid to them is above 500 rupees a month. On the other side of the account stands the following item:
Deduct amount realized from the out-students of English for the months of May, June, and July last-103 rupees.
I have been told that it is merely from want of local experience that I am surprised at these phenomena, and that it is not the fashion for students in India to study at their own charges. This only confirms me in my opinions. Nothing is more certain than that it never can in any part of the world be necessary to pay men for doing what they think pleasant
or profitable. India is no exception to this rule. The people of India do not require to be paid for eating rice when they are hungry, or for wearing woollen cloth in the cold season. To come nearer to the case before us:-The children who learn their letters and a little elementary arithmetic from the village schoolmaster are not paid by him. He is paid for teaching them. Why then is it necessary to pay people to learn Sanscrit and Arabic? Evidently because it is universally felt that the Sanscrit and Arabic are languages the knowledge of which does not compensate for the trouble of acquiring them. On all such subjects the state of the market is the detective test.
Other evidence is not wanting, if other evidence were required. A petition was presented last year to the committee by several ex-students of the Sanscrit College. The petitioners stated that they had studied in the college ten or twelve years, that they had made themselves acquainted with Hindoo literature and science, that they had received certificates of proficiency. And what is the fruit of all this? "Notwithstanding such testimonials," they say, "we have but little prospect of bettering our condition without the kind assistance of your honourable committee, the indifference with which we are generally looked upon by our countrymen leaving no hope of encouragement and assistance from them." They therefore beg that they may be recommended to the Governor-General for places under the Government-not places of high dignity or emolument, but such as may just enable them to exist. "We want means," they say, "for a decent living, and for our progressive improvement, which, however, we cannot obtain without the assistance of Government, by whom we have been educated and maintained from childhood." They conclude by representing very pathetically that they are sure that it was never the intention of Government, after behaving so liberally to them during their education, to abandon them to destitution and neglect.
I have been used to see petitions to Government for compensation. All those petitions, even the most unreasonable of them, proceeded on the supposition that some loss had been sustained, that some wrong had been inflicted. These are surely the first petitioners who ever demanded compensation for having been educated gratis, for having been supported by the public during twelve years, and then sent forth into the world well furnished with literature and science. They represent their education as an injury which gives them a claim on the Government for redress, as an injury for which the stipends paid to them during the infliction were a very inadequate compensation. And I doubt not that they are in the right. They have wasted the best years of life in learning what procures for them neither bread nor respect. Surely we might with advantage have saved the cost of making these persons useless and miserable. Surely, men may be brought up to be burdens to the public and objects of contempt to their neighbours at a somewhat smaller charge to the State. But such is our policy. We do not even stand neuter in the contest between truth and falsehood. We are not content to leave the natives to the influence of their own hereditary prejudices. To the natural difficulties which obstruct the progress of sound science in the East, we add great difficulties of our own making. Bounties and premiums, such as ought not to be given even for the propagation of truth, we lavish on false texts and false philosophy.
By acting thus we create the very evil which we fear. We are making that opposition which we do not find. What we spend on the Arabic and Sanscrit Colleges is not merely a
dead loss to the cause of truth. It is bounty-money paid to raise up champions of error. It goes to form a nest not merely of helpless placehunters but of bigots prompted alike by passion and by interest to raise a cry against every useful scheme of education. If there should be any opposition among the natives to the change which I recommend, that opposition will be the effect of our own system. It will be headed by persons supported by our stipends and trained in our colleges. The longer we persevere in our present course, the more formidable will that opposition be. It will be every year reinforced by recruits whom we are paying. From the native society, left to itself, we have no difficulties to apprehend. All the murmuring will come from that oriental interest which we have, by artificial means, called into being and nursed into strength.
There is yet another fact which is alone sufficient to prove that the feeling of the native public, when left to itself, is not such as the supporters of the old system represent it to be. The committee have thought fit to lay out above a lakh of rupees in printing Arabic and Sanscrit books. Those books find no purchasers. It is very rarely that a single copy is disposed of. Twenty-three thousand volumes, most of them folios and quartos, fill the libraries or rather the lumber-rooms of this body. The committee contrive to get rid of some portion of their vast stock of oriental literature by giving books away. But they cannot give so fast as they print. About twenty thousand rupees a year are spent in adding fresh masses of waste paper to a hoard which, one should think, is already sufficiently ample. During the last three years about sixty thousand rupees have been expended in this manner. The sale of Arabic and Sanscrit books during those three years has not yielded quite one thousand rupees. In the meantime, the School Book Society is selling seven or eight thousand English volumes every year, and not only pays the expenses of printing but realizes a profit of twenty per cent. on its outlay.
The fact that the Hindoo law is to be learned chiefly from Sanscrit books, and the Mahometan law from Arabic books, has been much insisted on, but seems not to bear at all on the question. We are commanded by Parliament to ascertain and digest the laws of India. The assistance of a Law Commission has been given to us for that purpose. As soon as the Code is promulgated the Shasters and the Hedaya will be useless to a moonsiff or a Sudder Ameen. I hope and trust that, before the boys who are now entering at the Mudrassa and the Sanscrit College have completed their studies, this great work will be finished. It would be manifestly absurd to educate the rising generation with a view to a state of things which we mean to alter before they reach manhood.
But there is yet another argument which seems even more untenable. It is said that the Sanscrit and the Arabic are the languages in which the sacred books of a hundred millions of people are written, and that they are on that account entitled to peculiar encouragement. Assuredly it is the duty of the British Government in India to be not only tolerant but neutral on all religious questions. But to encourage the study of a literature, admitted to be of small intrinsic value, only because that literature inculcated the most serious errors on the most important subjects, is a course hardly reconcilable with reason, with morality, or even with that very neutrality which ought, as we all agree, to be sacredly preserved. It is confined that a language is barren of useful knowledge. We are to teach it because it is fruitful of monstrous superstitions. We are to teach false history, false astronomy, false medicine, because we find them in company with a false religion.
We abstain, and I trust shall always abstain, from giving any public encouragement to those who are engaged in the work of converting the natives to Christianity. And while we act thus, can we reasonably or decently bribe men, out of the revenues of the State, to waste their youth in learning how they are to purify themselves after touching an ass or what texts of the Vedas they are to repeat to expiate the crime of killing a goat?
It is taken for granted by the advocates of oriental learning that no native of this country can possibly attain more than a mere smattering of English. They do not attempt to prove this. But they perpetually insinuate it. They designate the education which their opponents recommend as a mere spelling-book education. They assume it as undeniable that the question is between a profound knowledge of Hindoo and Arabian literature and science on the one side, and superficial knowledge of the rudiments of English on the other. This is not merely an assumption, but an assumption contrary to all reason and experience. We know that foreigners of all nations do learn our language sufficiently to have access to all the most abstruse knowledge which it contains sufficiently to relish even the more delicate graces of our most idiomatic writers. There are in this very town natives who are quite competent to discuss political or scientific questions with fluency and precision in the English language. I have heard the very question on which I am now writing discussed by native gentlemen with a liberality and an intelligence which would do credit to any member of the Committee of Public Instruction. Indeed it is unusual to find, even in the literary circles of the Continent, any foreigner who can express himself in English with so much facility and correctness as we find in many Hindoos. Nobody, I suppose, will contend that English is so difficult to a Hindoo as Greek to an Englishman. Yet an intelligent English youth, in a much smaller number of years than our unfortunate pupils pass at the Sanscrit College, becomes able to read, to enjoy, and even to imitate not unhappily the compositions of the best Greek authors. Less than half the time which enables an English youth to read Herodotus and Sophocles ought to enable a Hindoo to read Hume and Milton.
To sum up what I have said. I think it clear that we are not fettered by the Act of Parliament of 1813, that we are not fettered by any pledge expressed or implied, that we are free to employ our funds as we choose, that we ought to employ them in teaching what is best worth knowing, that English is better worth knowing than Sanscrit or Arabic, that the natives are desirous to be taught English, and are not desirous to be taught Sanscrit or Arabic, that neither as the languages of law nor as the languages of religion have the Sanscrit and Arabic any peculiar claim to our encouragement, that it is possible to make natives of this country thoroughly good English scholars, and that to this end our efforts ought to be directed.
In one point I fully agree with the gentlemen to whose general views I am opposed. I feel with them that it is impossible for us, with our limited means, to attempt to educate the body of the people. We must at present do our best to form a class who may be interpreters between us and the millions whom we govern, -a class of persons Indian in blood and colour, but English in tastes, in opinions, in morals and in intellect. To that class we may leave it to refine the vernacular dialects of the country, to enrich those dialects with terms of science borrowed from the Western nomenclature, and to render
them by degrees fit vehicles for conveying knowledge to the great mass of the population.
I would strictly respect all existing interests. I would deal even generously with all individuals who have had fair reason to expect a pecuniary provision. But I would strike at the root of the bad system which has hitherto been fostered by us. I would at once stop the printing of Arabic and Sanscrit books. I would abolish the Mudrassa and the Sanscrit College at Calcutta. Benares is the great seat of Brahminical learning; Delhi of Arabic learning. If we retain the Sanscrit College at Bonares and the Mahometan College at Delhi we do enough and much more than enough in my opinion, for the Eastern languages. If the Benares and Delhi Colleges should be retained, I would at least recommend that no stipends shall be given to any students who may hereafter repair thither, but that the people shall be left to make their own choice between the rival systems of education without being bribed by us to learn what they have no desire to know. The funds which would thus be placed at our disposal would enable us to give larger encouragement to the Hindoo College at Calcutta, and establish in the principal cities throughout the Presidencies of Fort William and Agra schools in which the English language might be well and thoroughly taught.
If the decision of His Lordship in Council should be such as I anticipate, I shall enter on the performance of my duties with the greatest zeal and alacrity. If, on the other hand, it be the opinion of the Government that the present system ought to remain unchanged, I beg that I may be permitted to retire from the chair of the Committee. I feel that I could not be of the smallest use there. I feel also that I should be lending my countenance to what I firmly believe to be a mere delusion. I believe that the present system tends not to accelerate the progress of truth but to delay the natural death of expiring errors. I conceive that we have at present no right to the respectable name of a Board of Public Instruction. We are a Board for wasting the public money, for printing books which are of less value than the paper on which they are printed was while it was blank-for giving artificial encouragement to absurd history, absurd metaphysics, absurd physics, absurd theology-for raising up a breed of scholars who find their scholarship an incumbrance and blemish, who live on the public while they are receiving their education, and whose education is so utterly useless to them that, when they have received it, they must either starve or live on the public all the rest of their lives. Entertaining these opinions, I am naturally desirous to decline all share in the responsibility of a body which, unless it alters its whole mode of proceedings, I must consider, not merely as useless, but as positively noxious.

My (33F) husband (34M) fell in love with another woman and wants to try polyamory
Trigger Warning: infidelity, verbal abuse, manipulation
Original Post: April 7, 2024
Hi. I've been married to my hubby for 4 years and we've been together for 12 years. After lot of financial struggle, we bought a house and we are now planning to get kids.
Thing is a few months ago, my husband fell sick and had to stay home for a while. He decided to pick up an online game and started having weekly sessions with a group of players. Among them is a girl (30? I think) and long story short, he fell in love with her.
He broke down crying a month ago and admitted it. He told me it built up so gradually he didn't understand how he felt until it was 'too late'. They started texting privately after meeting and eventually had one on one calls together. Then at some point, he said, she told him she was in love with him and he realized it was mutual. He said he told her it was impossible but loved her too. They tried to be just friends but they "couldn't resist" and continued to show affection for each other (he showed me the texts) but also venture into sexting. She asked if she could meet him face to face but he refused.
So he told me all of this, apologized over and over again and told me he couldn't control himself and while he loved us both, it was me he would choose no matter what. I was still very upset and slept at a friend's that night to gather my thoughts.
I decided to forgive him because he clearly felt guilt and wanted to work it out. I told him that while I was deeply hurt, I still appreciated him coming forward to me and being honest about what happened. We got into long conversations about how we were feeling in our relationship… I accepted he could love someone else but said I didn't like how he handled it. He agreed. And then yesterday he asked if I was comfortable opening up the marriage to polyamory. He said he still wanted to live with me and have kids but can't erase nor ignore the feelings he has for her.
He says he wants to do it right and let us both see other people, with clear boundaries and communication and still be present for one another. I'm gonna be honest, it made me very uncomfortable at first. We have several friends who are poly, I know more or less how it works… But I never really thought about getting into it myself. I am not against, it just never crossed my mind before. I am trying to think it through but it's a lot to take in.
Sorry my writing is probably messy but it's kind of hard to focus. I guess it's too early to decide and we have a lot more to discuss beforehand, but still…
Could you guys give me your opinions on this?
Thanks a lot

Commenter 1: I'd be divorcing so fast.
DogOfTheBone: So he cheated and now wants to be able to keep cheating by calling it poly, lol. Come on.
Do not have kids with this man for the love of God and if you have any self respect you'll be serving him divorce papers soon as possible. Sorry your husband is a cheating ass.
swampcatz: You got married under the assumption you would remain monogamous. He is trying to fundamentally change the nature of your relationship. If I were you, I would drop any attempts at conceiving and figure out your next steps. Personally, I would not stay with someone who desired an open relationship. You need to decide if it’s something you’re willing to entertain or not.

Update: April 25, 2024
Hey guys,
Original post here.
First off, sorry I didn’t reply to all your comments. I am very thankful for them; they helped me realize hard (but fair) truths about the whole situation. I waited for a bit to think about it all and had multiple long discussions with my husband. I wanted to confront him before making a final decision.
To answer some of your questions: the other girl wanted to meet him, but they never did. Partly because my husband refused, but honestly, mostly because she lives too far from here. I still got checked for STDs, though, and I'm clean (yay!). As for our polyamory friends, they apparently were the ones who suggested him to go down the polyamory road. I stopped talking to them for now; I'll deal with the bigger problem first.
I told him his actions hurt me deeply and that while I appreciated him admitting his affair, it was still infidelity. I told him what you guys said: that turning it into polyamory was merely greenlighting the affair after the fact. That polyamory should be built on mutual trust and communication, which he already broke. That I didn't feel respected.
It destroyed him. He said he already knew, deep down, but didn’t want to admit it, neither to me nor to himself.
We both screamed and cried a lot.
He finally admitted he wanted to open the marriage for selfish reasons. He is very sorry. He cut off contact with the other girl, let me fully access his computer and phone, and now wants to go to counseling to repair our relationship and marriage. He is showing me a lot of affection and attention since then, although he admits himself it's sometimes out of guilt and not just out of pure love.
And now I want to make it work too, but… Am I? Or is it sunk cost fallacy? I don't know. Our first session is in two months (the earliest we could get), and every day I change my mind. Literally yesterday I wanted to leave him, while today I think it's worth giving it a try.
Because we've known each other for so long, we understand each other on a very deep level, share a lot of interests, and have already built so much together. He was there for me during hard parts of my life. He took responsability for his actions and is really trying. Plus, if I leave him, I'd have to start my life nearly from scratch: find a new place to live, go back into dating for the first time in 12 years… I don't want to lose everything… It sounds very hard and scary. Am I not too old for this?
But at the same time, that's a form of denial, isn't it? It doesn't matter if those years were good; it's not going to be the same. Even if he gains my trust back, even if I forgive him, I'll never forget. I think he is genuinely remorseful, but isn't it too late for that? I am too empathetic, him being present now doesn't erase what was done. Do I want to stay not because I still believe in this relationship, but because don't have the strength to ask for a divorce? Because it's the easy choice, some kind of co-dependency?
I have no idea. I can picture both paths clearly, and it's tearing me apart. I am lost, maybe even more than I was when I wrote my previous post. I've lost sleep and appetite, and I'm not sure I enjoy anything in my life anymore. I booked an appointment with a psychologist, for me alone, to help with this whole thing.
I am sorry; at this point, I am rambling. I know I am the only one who can decide what's okay and comfortable for me or not. It's ultimately my choice and my choice only. The emotional hell I am going through just makes thinking about that choice very hard and paralyzing. I'll go to both therapies and try to see what to do from here.
I'll try to update, but it's probably going to take a while. I am sorry. I want to thank you again for your support, and I am sending you guys a lot of love.
EDIT : a couple of infos I should have mentioned but didn't because putting all of that into writing without omitting something is much harder than I thought.
He cut off contact with her because once he told him he was married and wanted us both, she just ran away and broke up with him. There are times since then where my husband starts feeling sad or angry because of what's basically withdrawal. And for that he's smart least sensible enough not to blame me.
What kind of marriage did we had before this crisis? It will sound so naive… It's my first and only romantic relationship, we were very close and basically grew as adults together. We could talk about anything and understand each other. We shared the same values and interests. What changed… I think… Is that we got into a routine and he got bored.
During our argument he said he was addicted to the attention the girl was giving him and that he felt I didn't show him I was in love with him enough anymore. I told him that even if it was true, he should have told me instead of having an affair. On one hand I have my faults too and I could accept this as one of them, on the other I was taking care of him and the house while he was sick. I don't think he believes it, I don't think he means it. But it makes me wonder whether I was actually a good wife for him. Even though I am not responsible for his actions.
Thanks again for your support y'all. It's a lot, A LOT, to process but it helps me. So much.

OOP on if she and her husband have kids and plans on getting counseling
OOP: Kids are off the table. If we do go into counseling, and it goes exceptionally well, maybe we'll talk about it. But for now, the distrust is already there. He says "I love you" but I never know whether it's to regain my trust, whether he means it or not. Even if he does, does he love me or is it a lie he tells himself?
DogOfTheBone: If you choose to stay, don't be surprised if in a year you find him talking to someone again. Cheaters are sneaky. They'll show remorse and swear they've changed. Meanwhile they're smirking inside because they've started a new affair and think they can get away with it this time.
OOP: Thank you. It's obvious and well known. "Once a cheater, always a cheater"… but reading it helps me fight denial. I really need to break up with him. If not for myself, just to show him that actions have consequences.

2024.05.06 17:16 Expert_Ad4289 First MC ttc again

I just confirmed a miscarriage yesterday at 7 weeks 4 days it showed baby stopped growing at 6 weeks 1 day. I got pregnant on the first try with my first and with this baby and this is my second pregnancy but my first pregnancy resulted in a full term healthy baby. I really want to try again and give my first a sibling but of course am terrified to try again. Both of my pregnancies were donor pregnancies not ivf but I used a different donor for my this time and am thinking maybe our genetics just didn’t mix well together this go around? I had read its best to get pregnant within the first three months as you have a better chance of conceiving and carrying a healthy pregnancy within that time frame and if you wait longer you may have more trouble. I’m unsure if my history of easily conceiving plays in at all and if I wanted to wait longer than three months to try would I still have a good chance of conceiving easily as I have in the past or is that affected now that I’ve had a miscarriage? When did your periods and cycle return/when did you conceive again after miscarriage? Anyone wait longer than three months that had a good prior success of concieving and get pregnant easily with a healthy baby? I can’t get into my obgyn for a follow up for a few weeks so I’m just so lost. TIA

2024.05.06 07:50 Basic-Candy-451 Feedback on DBQ+How to strategize time?

Hey all, I feel bad for posting this since I’ve seen so many of these posts being made recently, but I really wanted some actual real person feedback on my writing before the exam. The prompt is “Evaluate the extent in which efforts to reconstruct the South immediately following the Civil War were effective in the period 1865-1877”, documents can be found at this link
For some context(skippable), I struggle a lot with timing, and this essay took me the entirety of the 1 hour to write even though I spent 15 minutes structuring it, so any advice on how to simplify it is greatly appreciated! Due to that, the writing is really ugly, and I didn’t even have time to try to recall specific information for the contextualization paragraph. So instead I tried to aim for complexity by sourcing 4 documents and arguing with all 7. Heimler’s history AI gave me a 6/7, but I don’t really trust it due to the previous feedback it has given me.
Here’s the essay:
Although some may argue that the efforts to reconstruct the South following the Civil War did not have much avail due to the mass Southern discontent, because of the equality-promoting legislatures that were passed as well as the emergence of civil rights movement ideals, the South was fundamentally changed towards a more progressive society which did not yield significant immediate results but laid foundations for future actions.
One of the ways in which the South was changed fundamentally but did not provide immediate results was the construction of several important legislatures. Document 1 highlights the 13th amendment which banned all forms of slavery except as a punishment, which had an effect of making a originally popular labour force illegal. This shows that even if the South continued to retain the practice of slavery, the government was now taking active persecution against the institution and made it much harder than before for plantation owners. As it was a federal law, this amendment became ingrained in Southern society, whether or not they chose to adhere to it. Document 5 shows the 15th amendment, which states that citizens' rights to vote cannot be denied on the basis of race, colour, or whether they were a slave or not. This demonstrates that the federal government is taking active measures to limit the effects of slavery after they had illegalized it in the 13th amendment. This document protects slaves federally from discrimination in voting booths. However, Southerners typically still found ways to limit African American franchise by means of literacy tests, poll taxes, etc. This demonstrates that although the government took active measures to lay the foundation for equality in reconstruction, the Southerner's immediate society still barred the legislatures from accomplishing much in the present. Another piece of historical evidence from this time period was Lincoln's Plans for Reconstruction. Although it did not get adopted due to his assasination, his plans were largely sympathetic towards the South and wanted to lay the foundation for a friendly balance and return to the Union after the civil war. However, even if it was put into place it would not have achieved much as sectional tensions were exacerbated by the illegalization of slavery, something that was outlawed regardless of Lincoln's plans. Therefore, it had no immediate affect either except serving as a potential foundational document for people later on to use. Document 5 can be situated in the historical context of the immense discrimination and growing economic disparity between whites and blacks post civil war. Although African-Americans have gained freedom, they still lacked power to determine their future politically due to legislatures such as the black codes and the pervasive discrimination in society. Therefore this amendment was passed to protect their right to vote from discrimination. This is important to understanding the document because it allows us to understand why this document was passed in the first place by the federal government; to protect African-Americans and to lay a foundation for them to protest for their rights later on.
The rise of Black political thinkers and intellectual agencies also did not have much immediate result but instead served as one of the first examples of civil right protests. Document 3 is Frederick Douglass's publication of The Atlantic in which he states that the constitution does not discriminate based on race, and so thus any form of discrimination especially in suffrage is unconstitutional. This shows that people like Douglass were beginning to conceive of political ideas that others later on such as Martin Luther King Jr. would be able to use, but it did not provide much result in the present as acts of discrimination in voting booths still occurred as the south actively persecuted African-Americans. An example of this is the KKK lynchings, which began prior to the civil war, but still continued even as these legislatures and thoughts were published. Document 6 describes the inauguration of the first coloured senator, Mr. Revels. In the document, he is portrayed to have suffered immense abuse to his race in the days leading up to the admission. However, he supposedly does not show any disturbance and acts dignified. This shows that blacks of that age were beginning to take on political roles such as senators to determine their own fate, but yet still faced discrimination from the society as Mr. Revels is stated to have had intense abuse poured on him and his race during his period. Document 4 is a political cartoon depicting a farmer, a businessman, and a supposed Irish immigrant who all represent a white government, stepping on a African-American person who holds the American flag in a newspaper agency that was black-owned; Harper's Weekly. This shows that African Americans were now verbalising the abuse and the mistreatment they felt by forms of political cartoons, for example. This demonstrates that even though the government was taking roles to combat racism, African Americans believed that because it was a predominantly white government their rights are still not properly recognized, which is evident through voting restrictions. This document can be understood as to be targeted at the African American population. Because the newspaper called out against a white man's government, they are arguing for African Americans to take back the rights that they have and fight against all those oppressing them, whether they be businessmen, immigrants, or farmers. This is important because it helps us understand the purpose of this document; to push for violence, which may distort or exaggerate the historical reality of the circumstances.
Another reason why the South's reconstruction did not have any immediate effect was due to the large amounts of societal backlash against actions taken by the North. Document 2 shows the Black Codes, which were a series of laws that permitted and enforced segregation throughout the south aimed to keep African Americans at the bottom of society. This shows that although institutions like slavery or voting discrimination were outlawed, the predominantly racist south still found ways to partake in revolts against those legislatures, preventing any immediate results from taking place. Document 7 shows a man, presumably Lincoln representing the north to be reaping economic profits from the South. This shows that the south had an intense hatred towards the north following the civil war and all reconstructive actions such as the passing of the 13th amendment, which outlawed slavery were seen as an active infringement of their economy and way of life. Document 2 can be understood to have been situated after the reconstruction amendments, which were the 13th, 14th, and 15th have been passed. This is because the Black codes were a way for the South to oppress the African-American population even after their original way of life was outlawed by those amendments. This is important to our interpretation of the document because it allows us to consider why there was such harsh discrimination against the African American population all of a sudden. Not because of a growth in hatred, but a result of the legislatures that were passed. Document 7 can be understood to be situated immediately after the civil war has passed. Due to Lincoln's past, the reconstruction of the South did not follow Lincoln's plans for revitalising the southern economy but instead involved heavy taxing and oppression of the south. This is important because it allows us to understand why Lincoln and the North were labelled as "Carpet Baggers" and the overall negative portrayal of them. Both of the historical contexts of documents 2 and 7 disallowed much change to take place, haltering the extent of reconstruction following the civil war.

With a deep understanding of the unique challenges posed by these diseases, Dr. Chandrakanta employs a multidisciplinary approach to deliver the highest standard of care to each patient.
Here’s why gynecological surgeries are important:
Diagnosis and Treatment of Gynecologic Conditions: Gynecological surgeries are often necessary for diagnosing and treating a wide range of gynecologic conditions, including uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, and abnormal uterine bleeding. Surgical procedures such as laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and dilation and curettage (D&C) enable gynecologists to visualize the reproductive organs, obtain tissue samples for biopsy, and address underlying issues contributing to symptoms.
Management of Reproductive Health Issues: Gynecological surgeries are used to manage various reproductive health issues that can affect women at different stages of life. For example, procedures like tubal ligation (sterilization) and tubal reanastomosis (tubal reversal) provide options for family planning and fertility control. Additionally, surgeries such as hysterectomy and myomectomy may be recommended to alleviate symptoms associated with uterine conditions and improve reproductive health outcomes.
Treatment of Gynecologic Cancers:
Gynecological surgeries are crucial in the treatment of gynecologic cancers, including ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and vulvar cancer. Surgical interventions, such as radical hysterectomy, oophorectomy, lymph node dissection, and debulking surgery, aim to remove cancerous tissue, reduce tumor burden, and prevent the spread of cancer to other parts of the body. These surgeries are often combined with other treatment modalities such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy to achieve optimal outcomes.
Fertility Preservation: In cases where women wish to preserve their fertility, gynecological surgeries offer options for fertility preservation. Fertility-sparing procedures, such as ovarian cystectomy, myomectomy, and trachelectomy, allow women to retain their reproductive organs or fertility potential while addressing underlying gynecologic conditions or cancer. These surgeries enable women to pursue fertility treatment or conceive naturally in the future.
Minimally Invasive Techniques: Advancements in surgical techniques, such as laparoscopy and robotic-assisted surgery, have revolutionized gynecological surgeries, offering less invasive alternatives to traditional open procedures. Minimally invasive techniques result in smaller incisions, reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times, and improved cosmetic outcomes compared to conventional surgery. These approaches minimize surgical risks and complications while enhancing patient satisfaction and overall recovery experience.

Welcome Home: General Plan Conformity Report - GENP-0175-2024
May 7, 2024
Planning Commission 990 Palm Street San Luis Obispo, CA 93401
RE: General Plan Conformity Report - GENP-0175-2024
Dear Planning Commission,
We are citizens and homeowners in the City of San Luis Obispo, and we are writing to express our concerns regarding Agenda Item #5.b, which recommends the Planning Commission determine that the “Welcome Home Village” project that San Luis Obispo County is proposing on the parking lots at the intersection of Bishop Street and Johnson Avenue in the City of San Luis Obispo conforms to the General Plan for the City.
More specifically, the County plans to lease the property to Dignity Moves, who will construct 34 interim housing units and 46 permanent housing units, for future management and operation by another entity, Good Samaritan Shelter.
Before getting further into the substance of the matter, we want to start by clarifying that none of us are opposed to helping the homeless. The truth is that we all want to be involved in the process of developing the right solutions.
Ordinarily, the City of San Luis Obispo is very proactive about community engagement, and seems to genuinely take pride in hearing, and later addressing, community concerns. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with this project. For example, this item is on the consent agenda, when it is widely known to be controversial. More on this, later.
We acknowledge the fact that homelessness is a problem in our community, and while that topic tends to ignite an emotional conversation, our goal with this letter is to present you with straightforward facts and questions that are directly related to your role in the process.
The Agenda Report indicates that this project is “consistent with General Plan policies [emphasis added] because it provides an opportunity to develop interim and supportive housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.”
However, the Agenda Report only actually cites one single policy in support of that statement. The selected policy is Housing Element Policy 8.1, which states:
Encourage housing development that meets a variety of special needs, including large families, single parents, disabled persons, the elderly, students, veterans, the homeless, or those seeking congregate care, group housing, single-room occupancy or co-housing accommodations, utilizing universal design.
Given the ambiguous nature of Housing Element Policy 8.1, it is reasonable to conclude that this project, or any other type of housing project, would be consistent.
That said, the project is inconsistent with a number of more specific General Plan policies, including, but not limited to, the following:
Land Use Element, Conservation and Development of Residential Neighborhoods, Policy 2.1 The City shall preserve, protect, and enhance the City’s neighborhoods and strive to preserve and enhance their identity and promote a higher quality of life within each neighborhood.
The proposed project will not preserve or enhance the identity of the neighborhoods off of Johnson Avenue, because these neighborhoods predominantly consist of single-family residences on larger lots with adequate setbacks and appropriate scale, as required by the Zoning Code for R-1 and R-2 designations.
Land Use Element, Conservation and Development of Residential Neighborhoods, 2.14.E - F Involve residents early in reviewing proposed public and private projects that could have neighborhood impacts, by notifying residents and property owners and holding meetings at convenient times and places within the neighborhoods. Provide appropriate staff support, and train all staff to be sensitive to issues of neighborhood protection and enhancement.
The City has taken zero action to involve residents in reviewing the proposed project that is known to be controversial, and widely considered to result in significant impacts to the neighborhoods off of Johnson Avenue.
Instead, the County hosted only one community meeting on May 1, 2024. However, to be informed of basic information about the meeting including the location, one was required to “Register” by providing their first and last name and email address on an internet form.
At the community meeting, numerous residents raised concerns about the lack of communication regarding the project and lack of opportunities to participate in the process.
Furthermore, at the community meeting, project proponents indicated that the Board of Supervisors already had established plans to approve the project at their meeting on May 21, 2024, but never once mentioned that the Planning Commission was scheduled to determine if the project was consistent with the General Plan on May 8, 2024.
Two days after the community meeting, and following plentiful local news coverage, the County sent an email only to those who had “registered” for the meeting to provide information about both upcoming meetings. Relative to the Planning Commission, the email emphasized the fact that “the County is able to self-permit the project and the City’s Planning Commission has no decision authority regarding the merits of the project.” We respectfully disagree with the message this language sends. We very much respect and value the role of the Planning Commission in evaluating consistency with the General Plan, and being tasked with finding that the project “will not harm the general health, safety, and welfare of people living or working in the vicinity.”
In conclusion, local residents have been given approximately 20 calendar days to attempt to understand the scope of this project and what opportunities, if any, are available for public engagement and participation. Actions that both the City and County have taken relative to this project (seemingly behind closed doors) are directly contributing to widespread distrust of the public process among our community.
Land Use Element, Public and Cultural Facilities, Policy 5.1.5 The City shall promote the location of the following uses in a social-services area in the general vicinity of South Higuera Street near Prado Road (Figure 5): County Social and Homeless Services; California Employment Development and Rehabilitation; Federal Social Security Administration. This area should have sufficient space to accommodate regional offices of State and Federal agencies.
The proposed location for the County Homeless Services project is not in “the general vicinity of South Higuera Street near Prado Road.” In fact, the project is approximately 4 miles away from that general vicinity. In a small town like San Luis Obispo, the “general vicinity” could be reasonably considered as 0.5 - 1 miles.
Land Use Element, Public and Cultural Facilities Policy 5.1.7 Dwellings may be provided only as caretaker quarters, as shelters (with discretionary review), or as part of a specially approved mixed-use development. The appropriate residential density would be set considering the maximum residential density allowed in any neighboring land use district.
Section 5 of the Land Use Element acknowledges that the City of San Luis Obispo is the “County seat,” and contains “several types of facilities to support government…services.” As a result, this section of the General Plan was developed to “describe the preferred locations for various types of [government] facilities.”
Policy 5.1.7 is one of twelve policies in this section that indicates that dwellings and governmental functions are not necessarily compatible land uses. As a result, the policy requires the density of government projects within these areas to be considerate of the maximum residential density allowed in neighboring zones.
The proposed project involves a density of 80+ individuals on 1.46 acres (which translates to approximately 55 dwelling units per acre), whereas the neighborhoods off of Johnson Avenue are predominately zoned R-1 and R-2 where the maximum allowable density is 7 - 12 dwelling units per acre.
Circulation Element, Neighborhood Parking Management Policy 14.1.2 The City shall facilitate strategies to protect neighborhoods from spill-over parking from adjacent high intensity uses.
The proposed project is located on two existing parking lots at the intersection of Bishop Street and Johnson Avenue, which collectively contain over 100 parking spaces for the County Health Agency facilities. Elimination of these parking lots will result in “spill-over parking” into the adjacent neighborhoods, further exacerbated by the fact that the project will require additional staff for management and operation of the “Welcome Home Village.” In addition, the proposed plan appears to erroneously assume the tenants will not have their own vehicles. How will these additional parking needs be met?
Circulation Element, Scenic Roadways Policy 15.1.2.A-C and Conservation and Open Space Element, Views Policy 9.2.1.A and D The City will preserve and improve views of important scenic resources from streets and roads. Development along scenic roadways should not block views or detract from the quality of views.
Projects, including signs, in the viewshed of a scenic roadway should be considered as “sensitive” and require architectural review [emphasis added].
Development projects should not wall off scenic roadways and block views.
As part of the City’s environmental review process, blocking of views along scenic roadways should be considered a significant environmental impact.
Figure 3 - Scenic Roadways of the Circulation Element of the General Plan indicates that Johnson Avenue between Smith Street and Fixlini Street has “High Scenic Value,” and designates that area as a “Scenic Visa.”
When will this project be presented to the Architectural Review Commission? This matter is not on the agenda for the meeting on May 6, 2024. Will this item be on the agenda for the meeting on May 20, 2024? How is there sufficient time to address the Commission’s feedback on the project before it is slated to be rubber-stamped by the Board of Supervisors on May 21, 2024?
Housing Element, Housing Conservation Policy 3.6 Preserve the fabric, amenities, yards (i.e. setbacks), and overall character and quality of life of established neighborhoods. The proposed project will not preserve the character and quality of the neighborhoods off of Johnson Avenue, because these neighborhoods predominantly consist of single-family residences on larger lots with adequate setbacks and appropriate scale, as required by the Zoning Code for R-1 and R-2 designations.
Housing Element, Neighborhood Quality Policy 7.1 Within established neighborhoods, new residential development shall be of a character, size, density, and quality that respects the neighborhood character and maintains the quality of life for existing and future residents.
The proposed project is not of a size, density, or quality that respects the neighborhood character and maintains the quality of life for existing and future residents. The proposed project involves a density of 80+ individuals on 1.46 acres (which translates to approximately 55 dwelling units per acre), whereas the neighborhoods off of Johnson Avenue are predominately zoned R-1 and and R-2 where the maximum allowable density is 7 - 12 dwelling units per acre.
Housing Element, Neighborhood Quality Policy 7.2 Higher density housing should maintain high quality standards for unit design, privacy, security, on-site amenities, and public and private open space. Such standards should be flexible enough to allow innovative design solutions in special circumstances, e.g. in developing mixed-use developments or in housing in the Downtown Core.
There are no attachments available to review for GENP-0175-2024 on the Online Permit Portal. When staff was directly asked for the “application or materials that were provided to the City of San Luis Obispo for the purposes of preparing the General Plan Conformity Determination,” they indicated that “no application or materials [were] submitted by the County.” Rather, staff stated that their review was based entirely on “collaboration with County staff during discussions of various jurisdictional questions regarding the grant application and project.”
If no materials were provided, and the Agenda Report does not summarize the collaborative conversations amongst the government agencies, how can the Planning Commission possibly or reasonably confirm that the project will maintain “high quality standards for unit design, privacy, security, on-site amenities, and public and private open space?”
Aside from the single nebulous policy that Staff selected to reference, the Agenda Report indicates that a few “Programs” within the Housing Element “further support homeless services and transitional housing opportunities.”
However, each element of the General Plan, including the Housing Element, begins by defining the distinguishing characteristics between a “Policy” and a “Program.”
Policies are defined as “specific statements that will guide decision-making. Policies serve as the directives to…decision makers and others who will initiate or review new development projects.” For all policies in the General Plan, “‘shall’ means the policy is mandatory; “should” or “will” indicate the policy should be followed unless there are compelling or contradictory reasons to do otherwise.” Programs are “actions that help achieve goals.” Since the Planning Commission is tasked with determining that the “Welcome Home Village” project the County is proposing in the City conforms to the General Plan for the City, consistency with all General Plan Policies should be the basis for the decision.
In making the determination that the “Welcome Home Village” project the County is proposing in the City conforms to the General Plan for the City, the Planning Commission must also find that “use of the subject property will not harm the general health, safety, and welfare of people living or working in the vicinity.”
The Agenda Report does not provide a rationale for how the Planning Commission could make this required finding. The rationale in “Resolution No. PC-XXXX-24” simply states that the finding is substantiated “because the proposed use of the land is consistent with the General Plan.” This circular logic should not be considered as a sufficient explanation.
Any land use can, conceivably, be consistent with the General Plan, and still have a negative impact on people living or working in the vicinity. Time and time again, the Planning Commission holds hearings for proposed projects that are technically consistent with the General Plan, but generate substantial controversy due to the potential impacts.
The Planning Commission is responsible for preparing a general plan, and making recommendations to the City Council for development that are consistent with that plan and considerate of community input. Making sound recommendations requires taking the time and steps necessary to understand and balance competing interests.
So, even though it is certainly possible to approve any imaginable land use in any potential location, the Planning Commission was established for the express purpose of providing an additional level of discretion to matters that are defined by the municipal code as not necessarily straightforward, non-controversial, or widely agreeable.
In conclusion, we strongly urge the Planning Commission to either:
Do not find the proposed use of land consistent with the General Plan based on the overall lack, and gross inadequacy, of the available information, and testimony submitted by the public; or at the very least, Continue the item to a future date, and direct staff to: Collect an adequate amount of information about the project; Conduct a comprehensive analysis of consistency with all General Plan Policies such that a defensible decision can be made; and Create additional opportunities for public engagement so that the project can be shaped in such a way that it is considerate of all interests. We recognize that the City has chosen to prioritize efforts to address the ongoing issue of homelessness, and we wholeheartedly support the City in their endeavors accordingly. However, we simply want to ensure that actions taken are done so in a way that is thoughtful, sustainable, and considerate of everyone that is affected.
Thank you in advance for your service to our community, and consideration of our requests.
Sincerely, All those undersigned.

2024.05.06 03:20 No-Strain5747 My (27F) boyfriend (28M) of 4 years recently revealed he has a condition that might result in the inability to conceive. How can I move past how he brought it up?

My (27F) boyfriend (28M) have been dating for 4 years, had just moved in together and are planning on getting engaged.
In November of 2023 my boyfriend told me over dinner that he has a chromosomal condition that will likely make it hard to have children. He said he told me because his mom told him it's important that I know. I listened initially and suggested we make appointments to find out more but over the course of the night became more upset. I felt information had been withheld intentionally, almost taking away my options, but he insisted that it never crossed his mind to share it over the course of our relationship and he completely forgot he even had this condition (it does not affect the carrier, only the potentially pregnant person and fetus). I was not sure this explanation was any better.
Over the following 4 months, I asked him many times to make an appointment to figure out more about his condition and what it might mean for us. He scheduled the appointment in March and we finally met with a specialist. We learned that the condition could mean any of the following, and it varies from person to person: we could have no problem conceiving healthy children, we can never have kids without IVF--if we try we would have many miscarriages and stillbirths, we can have health kids with IVF, or that he could be impotent all together.
The next appointment we could make would be to figure out the quality of his sperm and the possibility of IVF give his condition. I have asked him to make this (again, many times over many months) but he has not and believes that we are so far away from having kids that it is unnecessary.
Today (May 2024) I am still upset when I think about how he shared this news. When I bring it up now to try and resolve some of these feelings he remains defensive–that he never thought to share it, that it would not matter until we have children, and that it likely will not amount to any challenges in pregnancy. I can not shake how I feel and am in need of help to have a productive conversation with him about my feelings so that I can start to move on.
How do I have a productive conversation with my boyfriend so that I can move on?
TLDR: My boyfriend of four years recently revealed he has a condition that might make it difficult for us to conceive, but he doesn't understand why I'm upset about how he brought it up. How can I move past this and have a productive conversation with him?

2024.05.05 18:23 Zealousideal_Run7614 The Fennsy Scale

The Fennsy Scale
Several years ago, Forrest Fenn published a SB entitled Santa Fe Bohemia.
It became apparent to me then that Fenn was in no way a narrow minded man.
What I believe is going on behind this Chase, Mr. Fenn has taken the work of
Mr. Kinsey and extended it by at least 50%.
As most hyper-intellectual individuals present with equal if not greater comorbidity levels of hyper-sexuality,
I believe Mr. Fenn (as well as his partner in crime Doug Preston) was a bonafide FREAK.
Don't believe me? Just read their poem.
Here's where things get interesting ...
Kisney's scale is based off a presumption of a binary populus.
Fenn/Preston foresaw the sexual revolution which began about ten years or so back,
and set up their own experiment, a Chase, with the true treasure being self-realization.
That realization occurs within a series of matrices of self, of which gendeorientation
forms but one part. Fenn/Preston have charted the subliminal influences of such
subtle aspects of self as Shadow, Anima/Animus, Ego, Id, Birth Gender, Soul Gender, Orientation on all astral planes, +++
In short, it's a prism, a tapestry, where each part affects the other.
A Sociosexualis integer-based color cordianted system, combining wisdoms of Kensey, Rizzo, Eckhart, +++
Most likely Fenn conceived of his own system while flying over Gran Prismatic, whilst masturbating.
At climax, his penal gland fired, sending a shockwave of seminal brililance straight upward, clanging into his pineal, a Thorlike hammer strike, which sent the nugot upward, ringing his top bell.
From there, it was on. The Chase Eternal, man's ceaseless quest for self.
Preston boasts Phrenology statues in back of his studio which can be seen in videos as a clue.
All the parts of the brain charted, each section traced down and in.
The sophistication of the Fenn/Preston system will not be believed, once unveiled.
This WILL change the world.
The real answer to the quest being, rainbows have no end.

Obviously very lucky and grateful to be in this position and have everything covered by insurance and be healthy etc.
Just feeling surprised and overwhelmed I was not expecting to have nearly 50 eggs frozen for future use. I’ve always wanted a big family so it’s a blessing, and hoping everything goes well in the future too.
Thanks in advance for reading.

2024.05.05 16:37 Gryphon66-Pt2 The Greatest SHOW of All Time

This production brought to you by the folks at WILD ASS SPECULATION which is inspired by viewers like you.
So, hear me out. Let’s ASSUME (that means I can’t prove it) for the sake of discussion that there exist intelligent beings or life forms that are more advanced than any human or human culture. These life forms have existed for millennia on this planet with us. They are advanced to such a point that even today, we can only detect them when they choose to allow us to do so.
They are very far advanced, which in one way means, they understand the world in ways that we haven’t even conceived of yet, and have a level of capability (via whatever their equivalent of “technology” is) to operate at our level of reality and conscious understanding, but are not limited to the constraints of what we understand about physics.
For whatever reason these NHI want to interact with us. Sometimes, they seem to care about us, and at others, they are at best indifferent, and some, sometimes, seem downright cruel.
They have no interest in killing us in general, and they observe certain, shall we say, protocols that self-limit their actions. For example, a Bigfoot bangs on the side of a camper or rocks it, but doesn’t turn it over, or tear the door off it. By and large, while they may peek in a window and sometimes even reach inside, they don’t (typically) come through the window, or break the door down, etc. which it seems they probably could do with ease.
Why?
Why do they wait until a car gets within sight distance to cross the road?
Why do they allow themselves to be seen at all if they can “disappear” instantly?
The answer is: they mean to be seen.
Matters of what the world actually is like have been wearing on me these last few years. I’ll be fifty-eight (58) in a few days, and I’m starting to understand that not only will I not get answers to several life-long questions, I haven’t even learned enough to START asking the right questions.
Here’s what I believe I know:
The Bigfoot are seen, heard, and they can affect the environment in ways we can perceive, track and measure.
They are humanoid, flesh-and-blood, beings, but they are also able to effectively disappear either in a few steps into the tree-line or cover, or, right in front of our eyes.
I strongly suspect that much of what we humans experience, especially some of the more seemingly impossible occurrences, is directly implanted in our minds so that we have the experience and remember it as an actual experience in all ways we understand.
Given that possibility, what does personal reality even mean?
These musings came to me while sitting with my cats this morning. I can communicate with my cats and they can communicate with me. I know when they’re hungry, or when they don’t feel good, or when they’re irritable, and also that they enjoy being near me. I can entice them to do a few things I want them to do, but usually, they do what they want.
Therefore, I believe that my cats are conscious living animals, and they have individual characteristics, and arguably, minds and consciousness or the effective equivalent. I can communicate with them and they with me in very limited ways, I enjoy interacting with them and they, at times, seem to enjoy interacting with me.
Let’s say I wanted to teach them about quantum physics, or Bach, or Bachman-Turner Overdrive, or the nursery rhyme “Mary Had A Little Lamb” or the development of human civilization for the last 10,000 years or so.
How would I do it? COULD I do it? Why would I want to?
Whatever they (Cryptids, UAP, Ghosts) are, what we experience are attempts to communicate with us and further to find out if we have the capacity to learn to see them as they really are. It’s an intelligence test after a fashion. They can manipulate matter, energy, time, space, and our own minds, perceptions and memories with the same level of ease that we operate an automobile or bake a cake. That’s ABSURD. ETs look like humans, dragons, little big eyed grey men, insects, etc. etc. Other bipeds (like Bigfoot, Dogman, etc.) look 8 ft tall, 10, 12, 15 or even larger. They look like relict humans, or some sort of human hybrids with everything from gorillas and chimpanzees to baboons and wolves or dogs.
They do IMPOSSIBLE things in IMPROBABLE places.
Do we really think that all these different somethings would travel across the universe or the dimensions or what-have-you to give a man in New Jersey pancakes in his back yard? It’s possible.
What’s more likely is that it’s all a Show, the Greatest Show of All Time …
TL; DR: Non Human Intelligence is behind the phenomena we experience as Bigfoot, UAP, other Cryptids, Ghosts, etc. and this Intelligence is developed in far advance of humans, and what we experience in interaction with them are their attempts to communicate with us for unknown reasons.

  • Blissey: Blissey is Blissey. I don't think there's anything else to say. She's the cinnamon roll among cinnamon rolls. • Torkoal: Torkoal is the old man who chills at the spa (Source from Mystery Dungeon), tells his friends to relax and is the king of parties. he is a little slow, but it is certain that when he is there the sky will never be cloudy and there will always be a bright sun.
  • Ribombee: In battle she helps her companions with speed control, outside she makes good healthy honey and is a good wife for Glimmora. Cinnamon roll describes it perfectly.
  • Rillaboom: Rillaboom, the booming gorilla, is a hard rock star with his Galarian brothers (Toxtricity Twins and Obstagoon), and is the most sociable of his group. A real bro who would never betray his bros
  • Cinderace: Cinderace is the classic guy who knows that if a soccer match is organised, he will not only be present, but will also have booked the pitch, picked up the shirts, made sure the goals are properly placed and fought with those who had already booked the field. In short, a true enthusiast.
  • Clodsire: Clodsire is adorable. everyone loves him, everyone respects him and everyone wants to be his friend. And he is completely unaware of it. It is said that one day, Toxapex insulted him, considering him a horrible recycling of Quagsire, and he simply replied "Clod?", a sentence certainly full of wisdom, even if no one speaks Clodsirish
Look like cinnamon rolls but they could actually kill you:
  • Dragonite: Dragonite LOOKS LIKE a cinnamon roll. Look at him: he is round, he is yellow and he has a nice and harmless face. And that's when TERA NORMAL E USES EXTREME SPEED AND PROCEEDS TO STEAL YOUR WALLET! BAD SHIT GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!
  • Skarmory: A round steel bird: Sounds adorable, doesn't it? What if I told you that it's really just made to say "Awww a round death weapon! can never be a lethal death weapon" as he starts setting up Iron Defense and using Body Press on the fools who have let their guard down? what an insensitive monster of affection.
  • Serperior: Sinuous, elegant, regal... It would be a real shame if in reality its only purpose was to glare at you, paralyzing you with terror and start sucking your lifeblood out of parasite seeds. You may look like an emperor, but you would still be a slimy snake.
  • Alolomola: A psychopath. she burns her enemies with sadism, mocks the poor Luvdiscs by telling them they will never be her base form, and like bad weed truly never seems to die. Someone stop that bitch
  • Primarina: Actually it would even be good, but being with those two psychopaths Incineroar and Decidueye has significantly influenced her. There are Walking Wakes who have run away in terror from her, who does nothing but sing in that witch's voice. it is now irrecoverable. Incineroar, do damage even in single, you're so disgusting!
  • Hatterene: Hatterene seems calm. Too quiet. As if she were hiding a murder. Have you noticed that since she became silent, Grimmsnarl is no longer seen around? Doesn't her tentacle look redder than normal? She may smile, but we all know the truth
  • Meowscarada: When he was a small and harmless Sprigatito, he was the most cuddly and adorable being on earth. however he is a cat, and like all cats, especially if he becomes a Dark type, he will become a monster. Now he fools people with his magic tricks, ridicules everyone and then *poof* does the U-Turn. Evil and even cowardly!
  • Gholdengo: its pokédex entry: "Its body seems to be made up of 1,000 coins. This Pokémon gets along well with others and is quick to make friends with anyone." Go tell Glimmora if his boss is friendly. You do not understand? Glimmora, Ting Lu, Ribombee, Samurott-Hisui, are all his servants, whom he dominates without any shame.
  • Watergon: She looks like a cinnamon roll but she literally killed 4 pokémon. End. Thanks for reading.
Look like they could kill you but they are actually cinnamon rolls:
  • Gliscor: annoying that it poisons other pokémon and sets the Spikes. However, since he benefits from poison and, being flying, is immune to spikes, he thinks EVERYONE is on the same page. In reality he's a good guy who helps old ladies cross the road, it's a shame that he's seen badly because of that bastard Gholdengo. Let HIM end up in an Uber!
  • Weavile: after these posts I can't see it in other ways, sorry. https://www.reddit.com/stunfisk/comments/1bb2gdn/bro_thinks_hes_him/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button https://www.reddit.com/stunfisk/comments/18kd6ot/weavback_mf_when_the_90_accuracy_multi_hit/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button (you are an incredible artist, congratulations indeed)
  • Heatran: Same story for Weavile
  • Landorus-T: Landorus, the king of OU, is marked by the abandonments of many of his companions from past generations. Garchomp, Tyranitar, Rotom-W, Zapdos, allies that were there before and are no longer there. Now he has a sort of friendship-rivalry with Great Tusk, but only the two of them know if it's friendship or a mask for the title of best ground type.
  • Corviknight: This poor little bird just wants to remove hazards to help his friends. Gholdengo, you son of a bitch, stop being annoying!
  • Zamazenta: Unlike his sister (Apparently yes... Zacian from the pokedex seems to be Zama's older sister, I never would have guessed tbh), he has never been the center of attention. His serious and cold look is because of all the training and effort he puts in every day to become like Zacian and, one day, MAYBE, surpass her.
  • Glimmora: It's understandable that he isn't seen as the greatest friend you can find at a party. He doesn't talk much, but that's actually because he's very shy and introverted. If you befriend him, in truth, you discover a faithful and compassionate friend, and he is also a good husband for Ribombee. A defect? He has some difficulty containing the toxins in his petals, so it is advisable to have HDBs with him nearby.
  • Garganacl: He's a poor nervous child. He tries to be nice, but everyone hates him because the salts he releases while walking are annoying (even for Gholdengo, oh what's the matter? Doesn't your ability protect you from the salt? Poor thing... wear the cloak and hide!). once he tried to change his approach but he panicked and exploded :(
  • Dondozo: Dondozo eats his leftovers, sleeps and sleepwalks. when he wakes up he doesn't even know where he is. I understand that that Body Press with the defense at +6 was unpleasant, but he didn't do it by will!
  • Iron Crown: Cold as steel, sure, but it's a symbol of royalty (Other than that slimy serperior). Honor and Sacrifice are his daily bread and one day he will show everyone that he is the true King! Not of the ranking, not of the tier, but of our hearts. Also, since it surpassed 5.53% usage, welcome to OU, you deserved it!
Look like they could kill you and they could actually kill you:
  • Speeoxis: He's an alien and hates Clodsire, that's enough
  • Darkrai: Don't get the "Er... Actually he's doing Nightmare in self-defense! 🤓👆" story, go and tell Mystery Dungeon he's good and kind! He wants to throw the world into literal nightmare. Why? Because... maybe... world domination is cool? IDK
  • Kyurem: He also comes from a meteorite, and tried to kill the protagonist, even if under the direction of Ghetsis, deep down he also wanted to make us a blackberry popsicle
  • Dragapult: He enslaves his children and uses them as weapons! Plus he evades taxes!!
  • Glowking: A cruel tyrant who knows he's one but doesn't care because he's surrounded by idiots who say "Slowww...?" and he can do whatever the fuck he wants. But when things go slutty Pivoting, coward!
  • Hamurott: Did you know that sushi was invented by Hisui's Samurott by shredding children with his evil blades!? The government swept the evidence under the rug, replacing the corpses with fresh fish! BUT WE KNOW YOU MONSTER!
  • Enamorus: She's evil because she exists, and she's not ashamed of being so ugly. Try and be like Landorus but you will NEVER be like Landorus!
  • Kingambit: He enjoys the death of his companions. THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS BY GOD! WHERE IS THE COMPASSION?
  • Ting Lu: Lmao lmao he doesn't die use abyss
  • Great Tusk: The supreme general of the tier's Ground division. He hates Gholdengo with all his heart (and this is a good thing), and he is envious of Kingambit, who has been perched at the top of the rankings for months
  • Roaring Moon: The classic hot guy who then fucks your ass at the last second. Then he also takes cocks from fairies like Ralts and Hattena and still has the presumption of looking cool
  • Iron Treads: He roams the streets screwing everything and everyone, pulling down the unfortunate ones, and he doesn't even apologize, what an asshole.
  • Iron Moth: It's a UFO, that means IT'S AN ALIEN!
  • Iron Valiant: His pronouns are Kill/Them. Ralts and Kirlia's strange uncle and Gardevoir and Gallade's unappreciated guest when he goes to their house against their will
  • Raging Bolt: The ancient lightning that blows up your house
  • Gouging Fire: The ancient fire that burns your family
  • Walking Wake: The ancient walking water that steals your property

2024.05.05 04:44 Equivalent-Gap-1958 Infertility and the “supportive” family & friends that come with it

There’s two parts to this, but first some background: I’m not sure I titled this correctly, but my wife (26F) and I (28M) have known for over 8 years that we would not be able to conceive naturally (klinefelters). I’ve more or less accepted it and don’t really let it bother me or get me down. My wife on the other hand is very sensitive about it. Any time a family member or a friend posts or shares that they are pregnant, my wife gets very upset. She gets a little judgmental with her thoughts of “they don’t deserve to be pregnant because of money or immaturity or being too young”, etc etc. In my head, I’m just happy for other people, but obviously don’t share that with my wife when someone announces they are pregnant. Also, we aren’t actively trying yet, but it’s just the thought in her head of “of course all of these people who may not deserve kids are easily having kids, even if it was by accident.”
  1. For those of you who struggle with infertility or have struggled, are these normal thoughts for you or your spouse? My biggest struggle right now is my younger brother and his wife just announced they are pregnant. My brother is easily my best friend and all I want to do is be happy for him and his wife. However, my wife doesn’t want to even hear anything regarding them, even if it wasn’t a topic on their pregnancy. She’s incredibly frustrated and of course it’s all my family wants to talk about. It’s making her become more distant from my parents and siblings. I’m not oblivious and I do understand what she feels. I’ve just chosen a different mindset, but I still support my wife’s feelings and if she doesn’t want to be around my parents or siblings, I am respectful of that and we don’t go around them as much. Just looking for some advice here.
And 2. How do you deal with friends/family that overstep or are unaware how family pregnancies can disrupt other family members with infertility issues?
My whole family knows of my infertility with my wife, but there are some things my family may do/say that I find rude. My mom keeps reminding me and my wife to check in on my brother & his wife to see how they are doing. She also keeps trying to remind me that “we should be happy and show our support.” My brother & his wife announced their pregnancy to a big group chat to some family friends the other night (they had already announced it to the family) and I wasn’t paying much attention to it, but my mom noticed my wife and I hadn’t reacted in the group chat. She texted me separately and said “can you and [wife] please share your excitement in the group chat.” It’s just stuff like this that sets me off. Maybe it’s not her fault for not knowing how to correctly communicate to us, but it’s just things like that where family/friends make small comments that can affect us. Any advice here would be great as well.

2024.05.04 21:59 effy28x Just looking for some words of encouragement

Hey guys, I'm just going through a breakup and a trauma bond and need some words of encouragement please, i know im being ridiculous but im hurt. Heads up this will be a really long post. So thank you if you do read.
When I first met my ex, he had a 3 month old baby. Said his ex just upped and left one day whilst he was at work. (This should have been the first red flag) but he told me he had no idea why she had done it, if he had been abusive or a bad partner or a bad dad he'd understand but he wasn't. He saw her and the baby on a weekend so he could still be in the babies life etc. So I of course, believed him. He drank alot but told me it was due to what he had been through. Again, I believed him.
Our relationship was quite fast paced, I had moved in within 2 weeks, he had told me he loved me within 2 weeks. Showered me with gifts, flowers and affection. I was in such a bad place mentally when I met him and he showed me the love I was longing for. We drank together alot, more than I care to admit, most of our nights consisted of drinking and listening to music in the kitchen. We did this more than I liked. I used to try and ask if we could do other things like go for a meal or go to the gym or watch a series. But all he wanted to do was drink. To begin with it was fun. We did plenty of things, loads of weekends away and days out. Camping, holidays, making the most of the little money we had.
Soon it began to change, he wouldn't show the same interest in going places, he just wanted to drink on an evening and watch football. We ended up moving house and I got pregnant and that's when things really changed, unfortunately not for the better. He begged me to have a baby with him, we tracked my ovulation times and we worked together to conceive quickly. He told me a baby would ground him and give him purpose not to drink. Literally the minute I got pregnant he changed, he would drink more and become horrible. Calling me boring and names. Picking arguments and saying I didn't show him any love anymore. He would watch football and boxing and scream and shout so loudly at the TV, he would drink and put the music on loudly. In the end we ended up getting a noise complaint, then another and another. He would laugh them off and tell me I was being pathetic listening to them or being worried about them - they "can't" legally evict us. It got to the stage the woman from the council was saying to me the next warning we got would mean that they had a duty to evict us. I was 7 months pregnant.
He would be happy me working 50 hour weeks to secure a good maternity pay, he would drink heavily on an evening and come upstairs stumbling around knocking things over, knocking drinks all over, playing music loudly, smoking in the house, waking me up and then calling ne names when I asked him to be quiet. We ended up moving again and he made me get all the furniture into the living room whilst he was at work so that we could move in one go that evening, 8 months pregnant shifting furniture from upstairs to downstairs and all over.
He would go through stages of not drinking for 2 weeks to "prove he didn't have a problem" then he would binge drink again. He never wanted to pay any bills, he had countless debt collection agency's after him. I paid for everything and just asked him for a contribution every month.
The night we had our baby we came home and he cracked a beer open and I thought to myself what have you done, why have you tied yourself to this man. 10 days post partum he would snatch our baby off me and demand he was sleeping in bed with him, i have videos of me crying begging him to give me the baby back so i could put him in his crib somewhere safe for bed. He was laughing at me and call me controlling. 10 days postpartum .. if any of you reading are mothers and know how delicate your mental state is at this point you know why this was so traumatising for me.
He would constantly tell me he'd steal our baby from me if I ever left and I'd never find them. He would say that he "taught" me everything I knew about being a mother. We went on holiday and he ruined it by being a drunken mess every single night, to the point he actually got kicked out of the hotel because he got drunk and had a fight with another man staying at the hotel, he had to go sleep in another hotel in the city we were staying in.
Somehow, I managed to get pregnant again in-between all of this - don't get me wrong the bad times were bad but we still did have some good times. Not everyday was awful. I was 4 months postpartum, I didn't want to keep this baby as I knew what i was experiencing wasnt right, and what another baby to him would do to me. But he kept telling me if I had an abortion it would be murder and he would drink even more and would be even worse.
Eventually I had a miscarriage at 13 weeks, I genuinely believe due to the stress he was causing me. And although it was a releif, I was of course heartbroken and it was traumatic. I ended up getting in touch with his ex and she told me that he treat her exactly the same and that is why she left.
So a few months later I left too, he wasn't getting better if anything he was getting worse. His drinking was getting worse and his horribleness was getting worse. He didn't help me with the baby, didn't help me with the house stuff, wouldn't clean or cook, just made a mess and got drunk and was horrible to me every night.
This is when he changed and started promising me he would be different, promising me he had reflected on what hed done and me and the baby and our family were all he wanted. Stupidly i believed him and tried to make things work, we stayed at his every week until march this year, i told him i couldnt forgive what he had done and didnt want to jump into a relationship again but was willing to try make things work, we were having family days out and i was lending him money etc, he was still calling me the love of his life but i was still saying i wasnt ready to dive back in. This wasn't good enough for him and 20 days later he's in another relationship.
This is where I need help, I am so heartbroken. I don't even know why. Seeing him love another woman, treating her better than he did me, going on days out and nights away constantly. He gives me no money for our child and when I asked him how he can afford all these days out he said she pays. She's rich. She drives a hundred grand electric tesla. Boasting to me about her wealth when he knows I am financially struggling to fund our child on my own.
Why do I feel like he's dropped me like a sack of shit. Why does he get to upgrade. The woman he is with is actually pretty and has a decent job so I can believe that she is rich. Last week he brought our baby home and he stank of perfume, I rang him and said have you had him with your new girlfriend he stinks of perfume. He said no, your being paranoid. Actually turns out he did have him with her. It's been 4 weeks they have been together and he's already done this to me behind my back. Didn't ask me. Didn't tell me. 12 days ago he promised me he wouldn't as it was "too soon"
They are professing their love for each other all over Facebook already. And I just cannot help but feel jealous and heartbroken. Someone please tell me this gets better 😢 I had a date on Saturday night to try and move on, and my ex had a right carry on about it, called me a desperate slag, wouldnt give me updates on our child when he had him, demanded to know who it was and where i was going, had a go at me because id said i wanted to be alone. Im like mate, your in a relationship.
A baby, a miscarriage, a relationship breakdown all in the space of a year. My mind is thrashed. I am trying so hard to keep going for my baby, I have a new home and new job. But it feels like every step i take forward i take 3 back. Why.
Thank you for reading if you got this far x

2024.05.04 20:32 Nezar97 Thoughts on Siraj Hayani?

Thoughts on Siraj Hayani?
Ex-Muslim here.
Siraj Hayani was one of many catalysts that pushed me to question Islam. For those who do not know him, he was an ex-Muslim who posted many videos "exposing" the many issues that he perceived in Islam.
Suddenly, he deleted all of his videos and, so far, posted 2 videos, one announcing his return to Islam (which I have seen) and the other making a case for the prophet hood of Muhammad (which I am yet to watch).
I know what ex-Muslims think: (that he is being coerced into making this content, since someone like him who has seen the "truth" can never unsee it). I very well think this could be the case as I cannot conceive of myself arguing for what he is arguing for (unless there is something major that I am completely blind to that he has somehow discovered).
I know the conservative take is: "Al-Hamdulilah, he has found the way," and I would love to get a progressive view on this. For those of you who are familiar with his former work and now his current work, what do you think about his transition and his arguments? Is he sincere? How can we tell? Or is there no way to determine this?
For those of you who are unfamiliar with his work, do you know people personally who were (passionate and argumentative) ex-Muslims, but then converted to Islam once more?
Also, if you're up for some more reflection, how does your awareness of my being an ex-Muslim affect your response to the Siraj Hayani topic? If this was posted by a fellow progressive (or a conservative), how do you think this would have altered your response, if at all?
