2024.05.19 22:47 Unhappy_Performer538 Visiting Turkey or Egypt etc While Fat?

So I know that not only thin women get harassed and assaulted. I know this bc I’m fat and have been r*ped & assaulted on separate occasions, so that’s not what I’m trying to say at all.
My question is though, is visiting Turkey or Egypt a different experience as a fat women? I visited Italy and Albania and heard that men can be aggressive in those places. Most men left me completely alone (a blessing) and others were overtly rude - maybe bc I dared to be unattractive and they think a woman’s only job is to be attractive for men?
Are fat women more likely to be left alone in Egypt or Turkey or is there some hostile aggression that a woman is something other than eye candy for men? Or is the level of harassment and abuse the same? Anyone who is overweight have any insight?

2024.05.19 22:45 MYECO-EARTH Is it morally wrong? Opinions please, thank you

Hey everyone
I’m currently trying to build a project, It follows Roger the aliens wild, raunchy journey back to planet majestic, he loves his alcohol, women, 420 and space cakes, the journey is fun, adventurous and a little bit naughty.
here's the question; Is it morally wrong to create a project where the character indulges in alcohol, space cakes and all things naughty and then have part of our roadmap dedicated to donating to alcohol and drug abuse awareness and running campaigns about the dangers of substance abuse?
I believe that blending fun with important real world issues can have a positive impact, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this approach. Does it send mixed messages, or can it effectively raise awareness and support a good cause?
Looking forward to your opinions and feedback, thank you.

2024.05.19 22:40 GreatExpectations199 Should I temporarily put off dating just so I can lose weight?

Hey everyone, I know this is probably the 100th post or more about the topic of weight loss and dating. The reason why I wanted to make this post is cause there some questions I had that I don’t think some of the posts on here didn’t answer for me, especially when it comes to more factors to dating.
So you see, I’m 25M, 5’10 and 240lbs. Yes I know that’s just obese. I got my blood work done and yeah it didn’t look so good for the triglycerides and other stuff too which is most likely to do with my weight. Further thing I wanted to added was my background, I’m an immigrant Pakistani-American, I’ve moved here years ago got my citizenship as well. Yes I’m brown-skinned and extremely liberal (I don’t practice any religion as well). The reason why I wanted to add these factors is cause that’ll help me give more context to my questions.
I’ve been overweight my whole life and recently gotten obese (college stress and now work stress). It has really affected my weight and especially personal issues that I don’t want to go over that has significantly impacted my weight due to stress eating as a coping mechanism. I really want to get myself out there and yes I still can even with this weight but that’s personally not issue imo because I like meeting people and going on dates when I have the opportunity. I just got my first kiss and everything but it didn’t work out with that person.
I just started to meal prep on Sundays and to slowly go to the gym whilst focusing on my diet more. I lost one pound this past week which im very proud of because I’ve started to cook more at home.
I wanted to ask if losing weight will help me get more options? I know this is shallow but I’m still doing it for myself and that blood test result scared me and puts me really in pre-diabetic which I’m more scared of than you know for not having a partner.
It’s cause maybe I am looking for some reassurance or even just hard truth about dating after losing weight. I do want a partner and I honestly think my weight has been the barrier especially that I’m obese. What do you guys think? Could it just be I’ll just have a harder time with other factors?

2024.05.19 22:38 Davian90 GM looking for solo player(s)

Hi!
My name: Davian / Henry.
Timezone: GMT +1
Type of play: Slow burn, some days I can write lots, other days my RL might limit me.
About me: I’m 34 years old, I have a dayjob, And I write a fantasy book part time.
My GM experience: 7 years, with 8 different campaigns (Homebrew, Enemy within, W:DH, DotMM, CoS, ToA, LmoP, and some shorter runs like ToH, FoF, DiT etc.), two of them are still running, with 5 players in each. (Tabletop)
Rules experience; D&D 5e, WHFRP 2e, Dark heresy and Mechwarrior: Destiny.
I am looking for two different solo players, one for each solo campaign.
What I hope to I get out of this myself: 1. Fun 2. Writing experience 3. As a creative tool for my worldbuilding and story ideas.
First game is set in the world of the book I am writing. - Modified homebrew D&D 5e ruleset, to fit the magic system in the book. - Setting 1570-1620s level-technology, Similar setting to Europe / The Levant. - Just humans, animals and monsters. No elves or orcs, sorry. - I try to maintain a high degree of Plausible realism in everything. - Magic is present, but it is seen as rare, dangerous and exotic. - There might be some limitations on what type of character you can play. for instance: you probably have to be human, and you won’t start with magical abilities right away. - Your character might have a story related to the book, or it might not. Depends on what type or character you come up with :) - No heavy ERP in this game. This isn’t Sword of Truth, and I won’t sully my work with you perverts! ;). Tasteful could maybe be okay.
Second game: - Open for anything solo pbp, really! Hit me with a suggestion, but preferrably something within a rules system I already know. (See above)
If either of these options seem interesting, please send me a pm or comment here! :) I would appreciate it if you told me a little about yourself and what you are looking for!
Oh, and be warned: As a GM, I try to be fair, but sometimes the gameplay leads to injury and death. It isn’t a real game without the risk.
If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

2024.05.19 22:34 Lotus_Beauty How to communicate to someone that your authority is a no to them - politely¿

3/6 Emotional Generator, (definition from my ESP: 30, 19-49 , 37-40 )
First off, they're not familiar human design so I couldn't help them understand things from that perspective.
Not to be confused with my emotional wave but being around them makes me feel very unsafe, I progressively feel distrusting and simply cannot even pretend anymore –I cannot open myself up in any way, not even through eye contact or change of posture towards them when speaking. It's been interesting in my time of experimenting, especially in the beginning, that whenever I had resistance to something i would feel clenching in my gut, it's hardly till now that I've had a such a visceral full body 'back off' towards someone consistently – well, it's been a while...
I've felt through my emotional wave about last 3months on how to react over what I feel, the place they should have in my life and how much to let them in. I've felt the underlying truth for some time but I just allowed myself to go through the motions & various, small situations would somewhat destabilise things too causing me to doubt myself or sometimes question myself in a healthy way.
As much as I still experience guilt over what I feel and my mind gets involved, its very clear to me according to following my emotional authority that all of me wants nothing to do with ALL of this individual, not even speaking briefly or simple eye contact, nothing. And it's challenging...
Primarily because I live with this person, I'm not able to physically be out of the situation right now, so me being this way has caused tension for weeks. The person is very fond of me but I really don't want a relationship with them. I wouldn't even feel safe to communicate how I feel but part of me thinks it would only be fair to say something, let them know cs it clearly has been hurting them that I'm not the same with them anymore and in no way do i feel like letting in them anymore not even in the smallest of ways.

2024.05.19 22:21 Hot-West9928 Soul of a human 5

First_Previous
Chapter 5 halfway to first little milestone.
Foul language warning keeping strong! Still hope you enjoy.
_____________________________________________________________________
°So, what now?° The human asked.
°Now I´m going to sleep, today was a lot.° Mor yawned. °Good night°
°Good night, sleep well.° The human answered and began to slowly wander the compounds of Mor´s mind just looking. Which for Mor was somehow soothing and let him quickly drift off into sleep. But as sleep took him, so did the nightmares, and while he tossed and turned in subconscious movement, the human watched. Watched the nightmares, watched the boy, who will be his other self from now on, watched what the four bullies did to him, and felt a protective rage. °Those asshats will pay. This ends, right now.° the human promised the sleeping Mor.
The next morning Mor acquired some writing implements and got to write his punishment essay. While the Human was backseat writing or more backseat questioning.
°Ah, so if you use a spell, where your magic is insufficient you could die, because the missing magic energy will be subsidized with a thing you call "live energy", but those energies are more or less the same, just that the "live energy" is the magic energy getting held back for your basic functions. But wouldn´t that mean, if you trained your basic strength and endurance that your magic energy would also get stronger? But then why do the elderly have more energy than someone in their prime?°
°Could you please shut up, I need to concentrate. I don´t want to write it again. And I told you that is not how it works! Also, why would training your strength do anything? You have your body and that's it. What would you even do, to "train" a body? It´s stupid.° Mor complained.
°Wait! Is that why everyone I saw is so scrawny? You have no concept of training your body? It´s just "I have to be born right, or I can´t use the fancy pants spells I read in a book", for all of you?! How did your kin survive until now? What about hunting for food or gathering, what about natural predators?° The human exclaimed.
°What stupid question is this now, we grow our crops and everything here on our floating islands, why should we hunt or whatever? You cast a spell and all the fruits get neatly gathered where you want them. This has always been that way.° Mor explained while continuing to write.
°That´s idiotic.° The human interrupted.
°Shut it!° Mor shushed the human.
The rest of the evening was spent in silence, but just before lights out the human spoke up again.
°Got an idea how we will deal with those bullies of yours?°
°No... I don´t even want to think about that.° Mor confessed. °But it probably can´t be avoided, best get to it then. The biggest problem is Zaletha, with her illusion magic, but the last time it somehow failed. Maybe it has something to do with you? Because you have no fear of her, I was also protected? Illusion magic is strange like that, you need some kind of emotional power over your target, or it has a big chance of failing. If that is the case, then it will not take long for Ranbor to escalate their abuse. He somehow really hates me.°
°Yeah, seemed like it. Any idea why? Well, it doesn´t really matter. Still, then we need a good plan to deal with them it´s four against two, and I can´t talk to anyone but you. So more like four against one and a half? But if this girl needs to have some kind of hold against me, she will be shit out of luck. The problem then is they may do something else to keep you in line. Maybe trying to intimidate you with more physical means.° Human mused.
°Then they would get into a problem with the school because attacking another student with magic is against the rules.° Mor interjected.
°But what would stop them from claiming it was an accident while helping you train? The best thing we could do would probably ignore them and if they don´t get the hint we just loudly declare, that we don´t want to have anything to do with them.° This got Mor thoughtful. °That might work, but most might not understand, why we would not want to have anything to do with them, because it would be helpful for my social standing to liaise with the nobility.° And the human agreed. °Yes, let´s try this. What could go wrong?°
Agreeing on this plan of action, their talk went to other subjects until Mor decided it was time to sleep and rest. They would resume talking the next day, and it would again be Human to ask the first question.
°Could we use the time, while we are stuck here, for you to explain to me how exactly this magic is working?°
°Yes of course.° Mor answered. °Firstly as you already know, to cast a spell you need magic energy, but that is only the first step, you have to afterward concentrate on guiding those energies or the spell can fail. Secondly, while there are some continuous spells they are hard to upkeep, for you have to concentrate on the energy continuously. Because of that spells like body enhancement or elemental puppet spells are almost impossible for single mages.
Body enhancement more so, because a flesh and blood body is more complicated to move, by the limits of how the energy can flow. Therefore most mage teams would fall back on an elemental puppet if they needed someone to keep their enemy at a distance. But those are last option things, best to deal with anything at range of your instantaneous spells.° He explained.
°It would be really cool if we could pull something like that off, it would be something like a secret trump card.° Human joked.
°Yes it would, but how could we even start to pull something like that off, firstly the energy cost would be far too much for me and you would somehow be able to control the body or guide the magic energy and that is impossible. In the stories, the bound elemental only supplied the mage with more energy and affinities.° Mor retorted.
°That´s why I meant it as a joke. But still, the surprise on the faces of the other mages probably would be really funny. If it is true it is impossible for a single mage. Still, I think I got it, it is best to use those instantaneous spells, because you can just fire and forget them, or start casting the next one. How much concentration is required to keep a spell up?° The human asked.
°It depends on the spell, but it ranges from, almost nothing to completely occupying your attention. For example, letting a fire spell go on, would be on the lowest distraction level, while guiding an elemental puppet would be the highest.° Mor explained.
°Ok, got it.° But still the human got thinking because for them something felt off.
Mor used the time of quiet to finish his punishment report and catch up on the stuff from the missed lessons. So while the human brooded over the pieces of information, Mor got himself back on track with his studies with sporadic help from Miss Amethyne. Like this two more days have gone by and Mor was finally released from the infirmary, as good as new, according to the healing adept. But only Mor and his new partner knew, how close "new" was to the truth. Still, Mor had this bad feeling about the almost inevitable confrontation with his tormenters he would with almost perfect certainty end up in. He hoped with all his heart, that the strategy of himself and the human would work as they planned.
The next morning on the way to class, of course, it happened and he heard the call from behind him. "Hey peasant, finally up again, you have to make up for your laziness now." "Ranbor..." Mor sighed.
"Hey you worthless pawn, what kind of reaction is this? Is this how your parents raised you? Seems someone has to teach you respect of your betters again." Ranbor exclaimed and slowly Mor turned around. "Excuse me, your lordship, I believe the presence of someone of so lowly standing is no fitting company for someone as illustrious as yourself. But where sire is your noble retinue? It does not do for someone as royally important as yourself to be without them. Should I go and tell someone to summon them for you?" Mor replied trying to keep the sarcasm out of his voice, as the human in his mind giggled.
°Good one!° They not so helpfully added.
"You´re going too far this time!" Ranbor furiously stated, his ruby eyes glowing balefully with magic energy. But Mor just shrugged, turned around, and left. °Are your eyes also this creepy? It looks to me that you only have a black pupil and the rest is in whatever colour.° The human questioned Mor. °Is that different where you are from? In most cases the color fits the family, so Ranbor of course has ruby red, and mine would be of more an agate green-blue disposition.° Mor answered. °Nope, we have white, then a colored ring around the pupil.° The answer came back until they heard Ranbor behind them raising his voice. "Don´t turn your back on me, you worthless peasant!"
Which in turn led the human to giggle again °He is really creative with his curses. I diagnose a lack of intelligence.° That in turn was too much for Mor as he could not suppress an amused snort. "You´re not laughing at me!" Ranbor raged and as Mor turned around to address that pompous ass, he only saw the red and yellow of a fireball that was flying right toward him.
He felt the heat lick his skin, and the shock of the force and fury of the attack let his mind blackout. While the enclosing darkness would protect him from the pain of burning, he knew that this was too much and his end. The last thing he heard was the voice of his partner going. °Holy shit! OK, that´s interes....°

2024.05.19 22:10 ObviousBed2163 The fact my Muslim family and Muslim friends only love "the fake me" is hurting and weighing more and more on my mind as closeted a gay and ex-Muslim atheist and Idk how to deal with those emotions. I feel stuck

For context I was born and raised in the continental West-Europe, 27M, ex-Muslim atheist since around 21-22 (though questioning for years before), gay, of Arab descent, all of my friends are Muslims with varying degrees of faith/practice, family's obviously Muslim, not financially dependent on family (live alone on social security)
I'll try to keep this short cause my life's complicated even beyond this issue for a variety of complex intertwined reasons. A medical/psychiatric/psycho-social/economic/cultural/academic mess. I'll focus on the issue of the title for this post to keep things simple.
Anyway, my friends and family say they love me and are there for me. My brain can't help but go "would they be there for me if they knew I was an atheist gay man? Ofc they wouldn't. They don't love the real me, they only love the fake version they see".
The solution seems easy, I don't depend on them, so I should just tell them to fuck off and live my life as my "authentic" self !
But I genuinely love them. I can't imagine a life where they hate me. On some level I'd rather them love the fake me than hate the real me.
I can't imagine a life where I never again get to hug my dear mother. I have tears in my eyes just writing this. It'd hurt me like nothing else. I'd rather be unhappy in her arms than unhappy alone. I can't just give up on her. I don't want her to live in pain because of what her religion has taught her to fear and hate about the real me. I can't expect her to understand. It's too late for that.
I'm afraid of being alone overnight. No social support network. Nothing. They're all my only connexion to the outside world really.
But at the same time, how long can I keep up this charade ? How long can I be expected to live in fear, shame, guilt, self-hate etc. ? How long will I be able to lie ? How long can I be a spectator in my own life living in fear of everyone else's judgment falling on me one day? How can I imagine a future in these conditions ?
I hate that these are the cards I've been dealt. I've never asked to be born yet here I am.
I feel so lonely and vulnerable rn.
Sometimes I'll be with friends or family and I get this inner urge to scream the Truth just to get it over with, but then I'm reminded of what might happen and I just cower in fear.
I wish I could be as brave as the public ex-Muslims all over the world and "live in my truth", but I can't. I'd lose everyone I love and hold dear.
I'm tired of this. I wish I could find my tribe , I wish we could find each other more easily instead of having to hide. At least I'd know I have people I could safe being myself around. That'd be a nice break from my reality. I don't think it'll ever happen.
All of this hurts so much.
Thanks for reading if you did.
Btw I'm sorry to ex-Muslims and LGBT folks in Muslim countries. I know my post must sound so privileged. I don't mean to diminish your struggles, at all.

2024.05.19 22:05 Epiphone2005 AITA for getting upset with my girlfriend after what she did on our anniversary?

Background: 1) My girlfriend had this friend who I'll call D who is straight up just awful. He's tried getting her to cheat on me with him multiple times with him as well as countless other things, and I've never done anything to him to deserve it. 2) Me and her arent able to see each other much, we're lesbians and her parents are not that supportive, so hanging out with me gives her anxiety. We can only see each other if she's sure her parents won't be there or anywhere near us.
So it was our anniversary on Saturday and she was telling me a couple days prior how there was a dance her sister invited her to about an hour away. I said that's great because I actually had plans on Saturday as well (visiting family) and I mean it's not like we were going to be able to see each other anyways because of the reason mentioned above. Fast forward to Saturday and I'm visiting family and she's telling me how she's getting ready to go to the dance and she's leaving at 5. Fast forward to 6 and I notice I haven't gotten a notification on life360 she left her house, so I get worried. I text her "you getting ready baby?". She responds apparently she was already there. I go to life360 and discover she disabled her location. I give her the benefit of the doubt and think "maybe my network is just unstable or something". Fast forward she tells me that apparently someone we knew from high school who is also friends with D is there, and I think to myself "what are the odds she's there too? This is a church dance and she's not even part of the church". I try prying her for details about the dance, at this point I knew she was up to something. She gives me no detail, dodges questions, everything. Then I remembered that D is having a going away party (he's leaving for the military) and he invited her, and of course it happened to be on our anniversary. I tell myself " no she wouldn't do that she said she's had him blocked for a month straight now. she wouldn't go to his party on our anniversary and lie to me about it". After a bit she gets home, calls me and I try asking for details about the dance and of course she gives me nothing. I finally ask her "Where were you really tell me the truth I know something is up tell me". And she says " I think we both know where I was" while on the verge of tears. I simply just say "So how's he doing?". Apparently two days prior she unblocked him and asked for the party info because she decided to go. I'll spare you the rest of call as it's pretty irrelevant. Fast forward into the night I can't sleep and I just start texting her how infuriated I was and hurt that he got to see her on our anniversary and I didn't. When he invited her I told her she could go if she wanted just tell me. I was kind of hoping that if she went maybe I could go too and we could actually see each other on our anniversary. And she kept telling me she didn't want to go. But of course that changed and she kept it a secret and I feel like we missed a great opportunity to see each other. Even if it was his party I still just wanted to see her. D has a hard time saying no also he kind of gave an apology for everything a couple months ago (i don't exactly buy it) but still he apologized, so I'm sure he would have let me go. My girlfriend told me she thought it would have been rude to invite me and too awkward.
I just don't really know what to think of this. I got upset with her and now she's telling me that I ruined our anniversary. I need some outside perspective. Also sorry if this isn't written well.
Important note: If you're wondering why D didn't just invite me himself, I don't have any contact with him. The last time I talked to him was back in January and I kind of went off on him and blocked him because my girlfriend finally let me confront him for one of the things he did. And I wouldn't have done this if I knew he would still be in her life, she told me she was done with him and she's cutting him off so I felt it was okay to go off on him. Obviously that changed since. So yeah I'm sure he just assumed I didn't want to go to his party.

2024.05.19 22:05 the_anonymous_token Does it matter if you voluntarily quit or was fired for misconduct/insubordination at a new full-time job shortly after you started a new claim and certified for a few weeks of benefits?

Will it affect your ability to go back to your old claim? Can you only go back to your old claim if you also lost your new job through no fault of your own, laid off, workforce reduced, lack of work, etc.? For example, claim started on 4/22/24 and found a new job that started on 5/17/24 and certified for the weeks in between. I quit the new job because I don't want to be doing something that they are asking me to do, or they fire me for misconduct/insubordination because I am unwilling to do what they ask of me. Can I still go back to the old claim because the wages from the new job have still not been entered into the system yet since it will be in the current year and won't find out until next year or later? Or is this not possible because I have to answer the certification questions truthfully such as if I worked more than 30 hours or earned more than $504 for the week, and if I don't tell the truth on those certification questions, then they can go back retroactively and find out later.

2024.05.19 22:05 AdamLuyan 2.3 Peach Flower Catastrophe 2

2.3 Peach Flower Catastrophe 2
The world had changed, and Publican Liu’s family moved back to his home village, Peach Flower Village, a long time ago. After a lot of trouble, Constant Fair was sent to the cemetery of Peach Flower Village by a carter who took pity on him.
At the cemetery, Constant Fair read the inscriptions on every grave, but he did not find Publican Liu's name. He was so tired that he sat down to rest in front of a wordless tombstone. At that moment, a woman wearing mourning clothes came to him. He hurriedly stood up and asked, "Dare I ask this big sister, whose grave is this?"
Woman replied, “This is my father's tomb.”
Constant Fair hurriedly asked, “Can I ask what your father's name is?”
Woman said, “My father said I was not his daughter, caused him to die with eyes open, would not allow me to say his name at his grave.”
The two then talked at the grave. Constant Fair first told his story; then the woman told hers.
Woman said, “When I was born, have a peach flower birthmark on my leg, so people called me Peach Flower Girl. When I grew up, I was picky in choosing husband, couldn't find one. My father appointed one for me, a longtime laborer in our medicine farm. His name was Constant Fair, was a fool. I did not agree. Later, my father had a small courtyard built up, and he planned to confine him and me there, not letting us out until we married. In the middle of a night, I created an opportunity for one of Constant Fair's friends to slip out, so Constant Fair ran away. My father sent people to look for him everywhere. A few years later, my dad became seriously ill, so we moved back to our home village. Not long after, my dad passed away.”

Peach Flower Girl said: “Before my father died, he said to me, ‘You are not a real woman, you are not destined to have a husband, and you can't enjoy the happiness of being a woman; therefore, I have detained a husband for you. You can only be happy if you marry him. One day, after I die, a man will come to my grave to commonwealth and bow to me. At that time, you will take these two letters: one is my will; another is eight hieroglyphics that I summarized what I have learned and done in my whole life. You ask him to guess the eight hieroglyphics. If he does, he is your husband. You kneel and ask to marry him.' My father handed this dagger (see illustration 2.3-1-1) to me and said, ‘If he doesn't agree, you kill yourself with it.'"
Peach Flower Girl continued, “Years passed, and no one came to visit his grave. I had not the heart to marry anyone either. A few days ago, I heard that a man was going around looking for a grave. I asked my butler to see what was going on. He followed you and saw your fainting, so he carried you here. I will send someone to bring you some food later.” Peach Flower Girl finished her talk, turned around heading back to the village.
(2)Mental Illness Treatment
Constant Fair felt more comfortable, but chest is still congested, in front of the grave to cry loudly, while crying while thinking: what is Publican Liu’s life doing? He thought about it for two days and two nights but could not figure it out.
https://preview.redd.it/jsw6b8a7vf1d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41b01e77bf4fd97fc72fef1d6f93c9ec59545727
At dawn on the third day, Constant Fair heard someone call his name, like his father. At that moment, the man said again, “Constant Fair! Do you not even recognize me!?” As the man set down the meal, he said, “Look at what I brought, all your favorite foods when you were a child.” Only then did Constant Fair notice that this meal delivery man was Uncle Grain, who had taken care of him as a child and treated him the best.
Uncle Grain said, “When the old master was alive, he would always ask me to bring you some of the delicious food made in the backyard kitchen. Every time, he told me, ‘Just say whoever sent it, do not say I sent it.’ These are all your favorites, eat them while they're hot to warm your body.”
Uncle Grain continued, “The day before yesterday, Lady said that you were not sick. I came to bring you food, saw that you were sick all over. Last night, I went to my Ninth Uncle's house, who is a famous medical doctor in this area. I told him about your condition and begged him bitterly. My uncle was cornered, so he told me, ‘This is a matter of life and death, you must not tell outsiders. Yesterday, a few of us old doctors discussed Constant Fair’s case. Your old Master Liu is a famous benefactor, who all know for hundreds of kilometers around. But he was so unfair to Mr. Fair that he put his life in danger. Publican Liu was a rare man of the world, and if he were to cast the curse of ‘Death with Eyes Open’, it would certainly be done seamlessly.’”
Uncle Grain said: "I then flattered my uncle: Uncle you very knowledgeable! But in the end, I don’t understand what the cause of Constant Fair's illness is. Our old master asked Constant Fair to guess the eight words that summarized his life's learning and doing, but how could Constant Fair guess out with his little literal inks? Can you make it simple for me? I need to understand, otherwise I came begging you for nothing!”
“My uncle said, Constant Fair is also a scholar! He grew up with Publican Liu, how could he be less educated?”
“I said, I watched Constant Fair grow up, he was stupid since he was a child! He was afraid of being beaten by the teacher at school, often skipped school. Old Master Liu trusted me and asked me to take care of him. I was lazy and concealed on either end. Every time our old Master Liu asked me, I told him that Constant Fair was smart and diligent, but he was always stupid and didn't learn well. Later, Master Liu asked me to lend Constant Fair his favorite books. Whether Constant Fair read it or not, I told old Master Liu that, ‘Constant Fair liked it so much that he read it two or three times, could almost recite it'.”
“My uncle scolded me, ‘Why do you work like this! Publican Liu's godly business is ruined by you!’.”
“I say, Uncle Ninth! It's useless for you to scold me, even to beat me. If Constant Fair sickly died, haven’t I been a man in vain! Then I won't live long. Constant Fair has been kind and filial since he was a child, how could he get this strange disease! Isn't this someone setting him up!”
“My Ninth Uncle immediately said, ‘That's right! Publica Liu died with eyes open; and he and Constant Fair had a factual father-son relationship. Constant Fair, he is a great rebel, self-inflicted sin, could not live! But he was framed also. That's what's illness with him. If word of this gets out, your Publican Liu will be disgraced! Don't you understand? Then what's the Liu family spying on everyone in our village now!”
Note: Uncle Dragon said that in the original story of Peach Flower Catastrophe, the original author used Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, God Theory, Ghost Theory, and other twenty more ancient Chinese philosophies to discuss the cause and treatment of Constant Fair's illness. In this book, see 10.6 Principles of Curing Mental Illness.
Uncle Grain said to Constant Fair, “I then knelt down to my Ninth Uncle and begged him to come up with a solution.”
“Ninth Uncle said, ‘I didn't realize that this matter had brought you into the circle. Yes, this happened in our Peach Flower Village, several of us old doctors feel frustrated and irritated. This medicine is the result of our discussion yesterday. But if the mental illness is not removed, Constant Fair's physical illness will not be cured.'”
Uncle Grain continued to say, “I said to my Ninth Uncle, ‘Our old Master is a learned man, and he asked Constant Fair to guess eight hieroglyphics, but with Constant Fair's little learning, he couldn't guess them! What, according to you, Uncle, are those words?”
“My uncle immediately became angry! He shouted, ‘Good Son’s Uncle (that is real name for Uncle Grain)! In terms of seniority, I'm your uncle; in terms of age, you're still two years older than me.' How can you say that?”
“Later, my uncle explained: ‘Publican Liu learned Taoism from Extremely-Vague Real-Human (Annotation, also being called Non-Position Real-Human that is True Suchness, is nature law) in his early years and was the closing door (i.e., the last) disciple, who had received real teachings. In terms of seniority, he is my teacher uncle. My teacher uncle set up a trap and I'm here to break it, that is I am cheating on teacher, terminating ancestors! But in terms of Publican Liu's personality, he's not a man who bites off more than he can chew and shows off his metaphysics; for a scholar, those should be a few common hieroglyphics.’”
“I asked my Ninth Uncle what I can do for Constant Fair then?”
“He said, ‘Tell Constant Fair truthfully all that Publican Liu had asked you to do to him behind his back!Let him comply with Publican Liu's wish, that's the only way out, otherwise, he surely dies.'"

Uncle Grain looked around again, handed Constant Fair the medicines for internal and external use, such as Shenling Baizhu San (see figure 2.3-3, Note, this is an ancient remedy for gastrointestinal ulcers), and whispered, “I have to go, if not they may never let me bring you food again.”
(3)Fate Through
Constant Fair sent Uncle Grain away, while eating while tears dripping. He was sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes crying, sometimes angry, sometimes leisurely, and thinking, thinking, thinking, he remembered what happened to him when he was a child (note, what is called Fate Through).
https://preview.redd.it/9yeueklevf1d1.jpg?width=546&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6491484cda32e7345961ea716ca9f7e3bce32f3d
Constant Fair lost his mother when he was young and lived with his sick father. One day, he saw children eating candied haws on the street, and he cried and asked his father for them. His father carried him outside the courtyard of Publican Liu, pointed to the big house of the Liu family and said: "You are engaged to the eldest lady of this family, but our family is poor! We don't expect this marriage. Dad is sick. When Dad is gone, you come to his house. When you grow up and make money by yourself, then you can buy whatever you like!"
At this time, Constant Fair came up with the first four hieroglyphics of eight, “former generation’s marriage reasoning factor”.

2024.05.19 22:04 up_of_of_smoke thoughts on logic

"Truth" comes up all of the time in logic. I prefer to think in terms of transfer of belief. If we believe P and P => Q, then we should also believe Q. (I embrace the redundancy theory of truth.)
Formal systems, like Robinson's Q, give us an extremely "normalized" discourse. Whether an assertion is warranted is algorithmically checkable. This is a kind of ideal situation. A "judicial branch" is hardly needed. The hard work of "interpreting the law" is done in the debate about which formal system is more interesting or "referential." Primitive recursive arithmetic is appealing as a "hard core." It is easy to "believe in."
In school, I studied the usual real analysis in classical logic. We never even discussed computability, other approaches. It seems to me now that applied analysis is informally computable, so there is a gap between theory and practice in this sense. Engineers don't believe in calculus because of certain proofs. Such belief is empirically and socially supported.
As Hilbert and Weyl have it, the integration of physics and math is just as a whole. Individual statements may be "meaningless" or deficient in interpretability. That sounds reasonable. But is there not an argument here for a mathematics that is "too empirical" for (pure) mathematicians ? A loose system of mathematical habits and heuristics might just work.
Yet I'm attached to proof. The question might be framed this way : is the essence of math more logical or spatial ? I don't think there is a right and final answer here. Math seems to be both, need both. Logic needs to be applied to something, like the infinite ladder of natural numbers...

2024.05.19 22:01 StepmomLife2022 Please help--10M inappropriate sexual behavior

I am totally at a loss and could really use some advice here. For some background: I (32F) married my husband (33M) almost two years ago. He has split custody of his son (10M) with his ex-wife (29ish?F). We will call her mom. Note: this is quite long, but I can't figure out a good way to shorten it. Questions are welcome. I will try to answer as best as I can.
A couple of years ago, my stepson got in trouble for showing his private parts to another child. I didn't think to ask back then, but I am under the impression the child was the same age as he was at the time (8 or so). At this time, my stepson was spending the school year mostly with his mom as we lived on the other side of the state from them. From what I gather, mom flipped out. My husband and I chalked it up as the normal part of being a child when you get curious about bodies. My husband talked to him about how it was not appropriate to show a part of his body to another person without consent and we took it as our cue to start talking to him about puberty/bodily changes etc. I was not very involved at this time as we were not married yet so this information is pretty limited to me.
Last week, we got a call from mom absolutely beside herself. Her neighbors (two of their kids are involved 5F and 7M) came over banging on her door saying that my stepson was showing his privates to their 7yo and the 7yo was showing his privates to my stepson as well. They alluded to the fact that they could call the police. Mom was shocked and didn't really handle it well. They came back maybe 15 minutes later with more information--not only was there showing, but one of the boys had put their mouth on the other boy's penis. Mom had totally flipped out on my stepson (took away all of his electronics privileges, and literally broke his laptop in front of him) and so we came to talk to him and give her a break to calm down. Before we were able to talk to my stepson, mom recounted an incident that happened about a week ago with the same kids. "They were dry-humping each other and I went out there and just handled it. They stopped." It should be noted, she did not tell the other parents about this until they came knocking about the current incident.
My stepson reported that the showing of their privates stopped about a year ago because the 5F caught them in the act and threatened to tell their parents. She agreed not to tell as long as my stepson "did things for her and was nice to her." Apparently that day, he upset her and she told her parents that he and 7M were showing each other their penises. My stepson leaned in on the fact that they both participated (stating 7M actually started the behavior.) He also didn't talk about the dry humping incident until we asked directly about it and then he said 5F was the one who started that. When we asked where he learned about putting mouths on other people's privates he said people on his bus talk about doing it all the time and he wanted to try it. He reported both boys participated in this behavior as well. We asked him directly about if anyone has shown him their privates before-he denied any other instances. We talked about consent again-they are all too young to consent and since he was the older party he has more responsibility in this. We reiterated that this behavior is not okay and could actually get him in a lot of real trouble. We also brought up that he can explore his own body and this is the only acceptable way to explore at this age.
I am fully aware that my stepson is probably not giving us the whole truth. He is also clearly trying to point blame away from himself. I am also fully aware that it is very possible the other kids felt coerced into this behavior while it is also possible they started the behavior. We just don't know. We plan on getting him into therapy more regularly. My real question is how bad is this? I'm worried about those kids and I'm worried that this behavior is becoming a pattern for my stepson. What boundaries can we put in place to keep him from repeating this behavior? We have already discussed not allowing him to play with younger kids, but that doesn't feel like enough. Also his mom is never on board with our parenting strategies so consistency is that much harder.
Not sure if this is super important, but my husband went to talk to neighbor mom on that night after we talked to my stepson. The talk went well enough that they exchanged numbers because neighbor mom doesn't want to deal with my stepsons mom anymore. We got a text from neighbor mom the other day asking for help because my stepson was playing in front of their house-she had specifically requested he stay away from their house and her children. We tried to deal with this by calling my stepson. He ended up complaining to his mom who called to tell us off about trying to respect the other parent's wishes and essentially stepping in on her parenting. Long story short here is mom has no intention of trying to play nice with the other parents or understand/address their concerns and is making navigating this situation so much more difficult.
TLDR: My 10M stepson is showing an escalating pattern of inappropriate sexual behavior with other children. I am looking for advice on how to handle it.

2024.05.19 21:58 beksortmint Help Needed!

Hello everyone! Sorry for disturbing but I need urgent help. As some of you may know I asked a question regarding PayPal around 3-4 months ago, and thanks to some people I managed to figure out some errors, however I cannot send money using the Family&Friends option (F&F). I tried everything however as far as I know that option isn’t available here, so here I am asking for help hoping that someone out there has it.
Is there anyone that can help me out by sending the money to a friend of mine so I can transfer the money to your Azerbaijani bank account? If you do not believe me or have doubts regarding my truthfulness please feel free to question. I would be very thankful if you decided to help me out. Thank you so much in advance!

2024.05.19 21:54 KlemensvnMetternich Five Kinds of Loneliness // Part 4

-and obviously it was stupid to think that any of my old friends would still be there. Could I even call them that? I haven’t been back here in maybe ten years and my ‘friends’ were the staff at a bar I worked at for two months, transient work by its very nature. Especially in Rome. There’s a street preacher and I think he’s saying “KINGS, BOOK ONE! CHAPTER 19!” and maybe he is because he has 1 Kings 19 (11-13) written on a sign next to him.
I remember Malfi… Marfi? Was a student anyway. Studying history at masters level. I can clearly see the seal of her university in my head clearly but I can't remember the university. I think about maybe pulling out my phone and googling it but it’ll take too long and I don’t want to waste the battery or not be looking at my surroundings for too long.
Hey- hey friend how are you? What are you doing here?
Oh god. If I keep my head down maybe he won’t bother me but suddenly there’s a wall of flesh draped in a cheap blue t-shirt semi-blocking my path.
I’m busy, sorry. I push past him and he yells out.
HEY! You got a problem with black people?
Loud enough for others to turn around.
What the hell is his problem? The insolence of it! The actual insolence! I smiled as I said I’m busy for fucks’ sake. I have a disgust response from the way he speaks as it plays back in my head. You ghat a problehm with blaq people? Flat vowels from the Global South. I could smell whatever ersatz cologne he’d doused himself in. Big, dumb bicycle chain wrapped around his neck. I could barely make out this heckler’s face, he was so overweight he was drowned in fat, and he threw his arms up in the air so his bony elbows came out at weird, jutting angles.
My mood is completely ruined so I turned right, catching the sun, cutting off a man walking a Chow dog who I presume follows after me.
My sunglasses are in my pocket and for whatever reason I lose the will to actually pull them out so I’m walking blind into glare. Was everyone still looking at me? The sun is beating down and on top of that the wind is blowing directly into my face. I can’t see anything and I feel prickly heat around my flanks. Maybe a tweed jacket was the wrong choice, but I’m not going to take it off and drape it over my shoulder right now. I do not want to be perceived.
I start thinking about the street venders from ten years ago, how friendly they all were. That’s not a thing anymore, I guess. I force all that from my mind and as I’m walking I involuntarily start thinking back to when I was little.
I was six, maybe seven, and my mother was in the hospital so I was being looked after by my father. It took him maybe three days to stop bothering to make sure I had a bath or brushed my teeth. Maybe a week before he stopped doing laundry. About three weeks in he was forced to start taking me to school again; somebody had mentioned something to my grandmother who came round to shout at him. He reckoned I could learn everything I needed from watching television.
The other kids were not a fan of my new look, and the bullying was horrible. Already a lonely child, I was further isolated from my peers by my appearance and odour. I had an initial grace period, I’m sure Miss. Euston had prepped everyone that my mother was sick and everyone was to be very nice to me.
The great mass of my appearance, greasy and smelly, eventually pulled through the gravity of Miss. Euston’s authority, and finally I slipped through her graces and into the bottomless pit of cruelty only children are capable of.
One night when the rest of the class was dismissed she kept me back to talk to me.
“How are you, John?”
Fine.
“I hear your mummy will be back soon? Isn’t that great?”
Yes.
“Maybe you should tell your dad to give you a bath before she gets home, yes?”
Yes.
“Is your dad coming to pick you up today?”
I don’t know.
She smiled at me put her hand to my face. It was warm and soft and I could feel the sea-salt sweat from her palms. It was comforting. Maybe that’s why I’m a cuddler now. She gave me a chocolate bar from her treat tin and let me go. My dad did actually pick me up that day. He asked me where I got the chocolate bar from and I said Miss. Euston gave it to me. I never ate it, at some point it must have been thrown away.
I realized Miss. Euston was, probably, barely a few years older than I was now. I wonder what she was up to. At some point the buildings covered the sun and I checked my watch. Two more hours to go.
I see a free table on a raised mount and decide to sit there. I look up at the statues looking down at me and a waiter comes over and says I have to order if I want to stay there. This annoys me so I bark at him that I need a menu if I want to order anything. He leaves and the clouds open again, probably by the wind, and it beats down on me again. Feeling more grounded I take off my jacket and drape it over my chair and take the cigarettes from the inside pocket. I looked at my phone and re-read the invitation email.
To – me, please be here at whenever o’clock to talk to our international undergrads on international project management.
Regards, some professor I didn’t like as an undergrad.
It was certainly an honor to be asked, but no doubt was being used to drum up engagement for some useless course they were peddling. How exactly does International Relations parse into International Project Management? You learn everything you need to know doing the damn job. I had emailed myself my famous slide deck, the one that was thrown around in secret by senior bureaucrats who were sick of being bureaucrats and wanted to actually do something. The one that Managers said could never be released, but had obviously plagiarized in snippets when they thought appearing to be daring would be beneficial to their careers.
A brunette waitress comes over with the menu, she looks young. Maybe 18. Over a decade younger than me.
If you don’t mind getting up, she said in a startling American, there’s a buffet as well.
I say thank you and look at her. Was she American? American-Italian? She looked British. Maybe Danish. I didn’t want to ask. She was pale, apart from her lips and cheeks which were the color of a rose.
Thank you, I say. Do I order drinks from you?
Of course, she said and took out a notepad and pen. The other wait staff used an iPad. I wondered where hers was and asked for a double espresso and a glass of orange juice.
Is that all?
Wait, how tall is the orange?
What?
I smile and her and mime a glass growing from very small to very tall. How tall is the glass? Is it a lot of orange juice?
She smiles and laughs and it’s very cute, I think she lost her composure because the laugh doesn’t match her voice.
I run my hand through my hair because I need something for my hands to do, and she says yeah. It’s tall. Pretty big. Are you going far after this?
I dunno. There’s some people trying to kill me. I smile again, obviously a joke.
She smiles back. You should have the buffet and I’ll bring you your drinks. I’ll leave the jar of orange juice but don’t tell anyone, OK?
OK, I say. Grazie.
Prego, she says and walks off.
I check how far the walk is and it’s maybe 40 minutes, too far in this weather. Will it rain? Will I literally burn to a crisp? I wish I had brought my laptop so I could have the slide deck up. I could ask the waitress what she thought.
She comes back with my coffee and a cold glass of orange juice, and a jug of water.
Sorry, she says, my manager told me to only pour the juice.
That’s fine, I think I’m only 40 minutes away. Like three miles.
You won’t be able to walk three miles in forty minutes, she says. You should eat quickly, then get up and go.
I dunno, I say, drawing out my response. I’m quite tall.
She laughs again and says she’ll bring my cheque now.
I get up and make a plate of pastry, the meat looks like it had been left out so I avoided it. I grabbed some things I don’t know the name of, and a slice of bread that was being warmed on a terracotta platter over some coals.
She walks away and when she comes back I want to ask for her number, but there’s a huge delivery truck slowly rolling through. My cup is shaking in its’ saucer and if it wasn’t already mostly drunk it’d run over. I try to make conversation but I don’t want to shout at her so just give her 30 euro and say keep the tip. She shouts back thanks. I get up and start walking.
The sun won out against the rain and it started to pound me again. The air was dry. I was walking fast and making good time, but I did not want to end up sweaty when I got there so I took off my jacket and carried it under my arm. I checked my phone again and I had a missed call and a voice mail. I couldn’t see the name in the glare.
I couldn’t stop to put earphones in, so I put my phone away.
I managed to make it to the campus with five minutes to spare. I hullo’d with the professors and asked for a glass of water. I drank it in one then went to the bathroom to piss, and check my hair. I was sweating but my jacket would cover it. My hair looked great. I clenched my jaw and looked at my face. Intense. Satisfied, I blew my nose and in my head went over the topics I’d cover. If I got lost I’d ask the students questions.
For some reason I thought back to Miss. Euston, looking after the poor scapegrace that was me. I remember once she told me God was in the wind.
I was waiting in the wings, hidden on a pre-stage before the main stage. Before I put my phone on silent, I thought I’d listen to the voice mail quickly. I briefly thought it "pre-stage" was even a word. I didn’t recognize the number. I pressed play and raised it to my ear.
There was a pause and then, cutting through the roar of the wind once present but no longer, came a voice.
“Hi, John, I hope you’re well and I’m just calli-“
The voicemail stopped. Someday, I hope, Apple will figure out how to actually let me hear my voicemail without constantly having to un-pause it. I hit play and put my phone back to my ear but I knew who it is before she said her name. “I’m just calling to say hey. It’s me, Joanne.”
It was a whisper being carried over time and continents. A whisper from a girl that might as well be dead. Why me, Joanne. Why me.
I covered my face with my hands. I realized I was doing it in shame and suddenly Miss. Euston’s voice came back to me again. “God is in the wind.”
I pulled the skin on my face down, pressed hard, and walked out onto the next stage, tucking my phone away in my-

2024.05.19 21:44 OpinionatedIMO Appointment with the Broker’

“Don’t assume my life has always been lollipops and rainbows, young man. Like most people, I’ve had my share of problems and difficulties. I have experienced frustrations, money troubles, issues with finding and keeping a romantic relationship, health scares, etc. I’m like everyone else in that regard. It may seem as if I don’t have a care in the world, but it hasn’t always been that way for me. The sweet ‘gumdrops’ of life came much later. My pivotal moment came when I met ‘the broker’. That changed everything. After my appointment with him, all my troubles melted away. I negotiated an amazing deal on that fateful day.”
“The ‘broker’?”; his captive audience-of-one, stammered.
The young man was perplexed and intrigued by the odd segue. It held the promise of offering an interesting story and fulfillment of the developing narrative. The curious lad prodded the conversation along by dutifully asking for an explanation of the curious term. Without further interruption or delay, the senior gentleman picked back up in his unveiling story of contentment.
Their unspoken understanding was confirmed. With his appropriate response, the question facilitated the means for the story to move forward. It was the equivalent of two people playing ‘catch’. The back and forth ‘give-and-take’ had been handled judiciously, and with nuance.
“Many, many years ago I had a similar conversation with an older gentleman who was about the same age that I am, now. He didn’t seem to carry the weight of hardship on his shoulders and I was fascinated by his enviable sense of calm. I was about your age; and I suspect, had similar troubles to those you have. After appealing to him for his secret, he told me about ‘the broker’. it’s about time I passed that torch to you. It’s selfish of me to keep such knowledge to myself.”
The young man smiled. He sensed an entertaining reveal around the corner.
“There’s an enchanted, magical being of unknown origin; collectively known as ‘the broker’. At least that’s what I was told, years ago.”
The old man had a twinkle in his eyes as he spoon-fed the strange details to his curious protege.
“The broker’ collects personal dreams, the same way others might desire to own a classic car, or rare coins. He is drawn to interesting and unique experiences. I can’t begin to explain to you why he collects such odd things. Regardless, you’ll only have one opportunity to meet him. If he is intrigued by your entry, he will offer you a deal for the rights to ‘own’ it. Heed my advice. Be fully prepared when that happens and don’t squander away your only chance. Wait to summon him when you have an exceptional item to offer, and know exactly what you want in return for it.”
The young man could hardly believe his ears. It seemed like an intricate setup to trick a gullible rube, but the older gentleman appeared to be dead serious about the surreal details he’d divulged so far. Despite suspecting it was a masterful joke at his expense, he dared to ask follow-up questions.
“How do I summon this ‘broker of interesting dreams’, when the right time arises? I don’t remember my dreams very often, nor are many of them exceptional in any measurable way. Of the few I do remember, most of those are sinister nightmares. If I do experience something that is vivid, positive, and highly interesting, I want to be ready to share it with the dream broker.”
“That’s both wise and very prudent, young man. I feel like you grasp the gravity of my advice, but you’ve taken the parameters too literally. It doesn’t have to be an actual dreamscape you experienced while asleep. It can also be about your hopes and aspirations for the future, you see? The only thing worse than not having a valuable item to barter with in the deal; is having the perfect one to present, but not having an audience with him. That’s a missed opportunity of a lifetime, for certain.”
The young man nodded in agreement. He was highly pleased and proud his personal advisor recognized his understanding of the seriousness of the matter. He waited as patiently as he could for the answer.
“When your time arives, you’ll know. It will soon become crystal clear. There will be no doubt you’ve secured the ultimate deal. Don’t waste time by asking for silly, impractical things like ‘eternal life’ or ‘vast riches beyond compare’. A dream broker isn’t the almighty, of a magical genie. His powers to grant you wishes aren’t limitless, and his pocketbook isn’t bottomless. If he is intrigued by the dream you share, he’ll initially offer you a pittance for it. He’s a shrewd businessman who has negotiated countless deals. Resist the urge to accept any ‘lowball’ offers. Be ready with reasonable expectations, and stand firm on your demands. Good luck young man. May you broker an amazing deal which brings you a lifetime of well-being and happiness.”
The old man winked and turned to walk away.
“But wait Sir! You didn’t tell me how to contact the broker of dreams, when I’m ready to strike my deal.”
He turned back around to face the curious youth. “Oh, you are ready! I already know what you desire, young man. I can see it in your humble eyes. I’ve heard the same requests a million times from others but that doesn’t detract from its validity or precious value. All reasonable dreams for the future are basically the same, and a delight for me to fulfill. You see, when I had my own special meeting, I asked to become a broker of dreams, myself. Happiness, and good health is a wise choice, my boy. I’ve already granted them for you.”
