● A new zipper slider.
● A set of needle-nosed pliers.
● A new zipper stopper.
In addition to endangering your appearance, a broken zipper makes you nervous to part with your treasured jacket. Although leather coat alterations near me are famed for their longevity, regular and severe usage may not be as kind to the hardware. 2024.06.02 17:28 gablemancer Turo: Unresolved Cautionary Tale

Yesterday traveling the Isle of Skye I had a flat tire. I hit a pothole going about 20 mph on a passing place on a single lane road while braking. It was that or be hit head on. Had a lovely man from Glasgow help us with a tire iron since the car didn't have one (I had to use a screwdriver to crank the jack).
No problem, got the spare on and drove a few miles into Portree, and called roadside assistance to have a mobile tire truck come out and either patch or replace the tire. After waiting an hour (and sitting in our trunk eating dinner from the food truck there), the mobile tire shop arrived.
He couldn't get the tire on the rim.
He called his boss who said to try to straighten the rim a bit by hitting it, which only caused the alloy rim to crack. We inspected the tires further and discovered they were the wrong size from the door plate (40r19s on an Audi Q3) great, but we did have a spare on. So we went back to our cottage.
I then proceeded to spend the rest of my evening calling Turo and their roadside assistance of Allianz. Roadside told me they couldn't help because the car wasn't broken down after I waited several hours. I told Turo and they told me I was wrong and to contact them again.
I did so, and then was given the run around once more. By this point is nearly 11pm and I am exhausted and the last Turo rep told me UK support doesn't wake up until 8am anyhow (not true as this is a global support team).
I also discovered that the tire design has 5 lug nuts and only 4 were on each tire. The locking one was removed, and the host admitted such and blamed me for not checking lug nuts upon pickup.
So at 8 am I call in again and have to do another escalation with the Allianz team. I wait another hour and they get back to me thoroughly explaining why Turo has to deal with it (turo has referred me to the roadside assistance team again). Allianz also had to contact the host about this and while I told them about the flat and failed repair, now they're pissed and blaming me for the issue and driving unsafely, breaking the tire (I didn't), and telling I have to call a garage on my own to get a weld on the rim (I am due to leave the country in a couple days, yet alone get that kind of work done in a shop on a Sunday in the highlands).
So I read Turo the riot act, request compensation, and have to demand they resolve the issue. This was 6 or 7 hours ago and I was promised that I would have an answer. I still don't. I have an unsafe car that I now have a space saver tire on that is rated for 50 miles, have a 125 mile drive tomorrow, and another 150 mile drive the next day on a car with a spare tire and missing lug nuts.
I've used turo several times without issue in the past, and this experience is absolutely insane. I have zero recourse, and could easily find myself stranded in Scotland's Highlands. The host won't help, Turo won't help, Turo's roadside won't help, and I'm seriously having to consider abandoning a car in Inverness to take a train to Edinburgh to just get home. An absolute shambles, and nightmare experience causing us to so far lose 1 day of our vacation and likely 2 or 3 if not miss our flight home.
I have no other recourse but to tell my tale so others don't repeat it, and just rent from a normal place please!!

2024.06.02 16:18 Benzuko How do I keep a rat comfortable after a death?

Last year I rescued two rats, today sadly, one died. I'm trying desperately to get a rat for him to live with but not having a lot of luck (rural UK and my car is in a garage being repaired). How can I keep my surviving rat happy for a few days until I can find him a friend?
He's usually pretty grumpy, he has tons of toys and things to do. He has a massive multi level cage and lots of treats. Will he be OK for a few days?

2024.06.02 12:11 Bruhmangoddman Just finished the story mode of LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2! The game's been pretty damn great so far...

So, the story itself was passable. No more mediocre or flimsy than its predecessor. But it's OK. I don't play these games for emotional resonance, profound themes or philosophical ruminations.
That being said, the whole plot was added a personality thanks to the voice actors. The non-union crew from the UK brought in to fill in for the striking voice artists of the U.S. was described as "impersonators", and I couldn't agree more in certain cases. Like Guardians of the Galaxy, and it's a damn great thing the voice actors for Peter, Gamora and Rocket performed very closely to the MCU actors' voices. Peter Serafinowicz as Kang was a blast, and Kate O'Sullivan carried several voice roles with conviction. I also really liked John Schwab as Tony Stark (came close to Adrian Pasdar and Mick Wingert) and I kinda loved Skye Bennett as Janet van Dyne and Rebecca Kiser as Kamala Khan. Overall, the performances are actually GOOD. I only have issues with Josh Cowdery as Steve Rogers (the American accent sometimes slipped HARD) and Ramon Tikaram as Stephen Strange (not the right type of voice for Mister Doctor. James Horan and Wally Wingert were superior).
The game mechanics are certainly interesting. The sliding tile match puzzle was a welcome challenge, the block moving puzzles provided their fair share of entertainment as well, and the time manipulation was stimulating. But I especially loved how they built upon Captain America's shield switches, now making entire REBOUND sections out of it as well as the repairs. In LMA, you got a short and sweet welding animation, here you get a full MENDING sequence. But I dislike how there is no detection or scanning anymore, and the senses got degraded to an evasive mechanic. Rune tracing is probably the best mechanic, given how engaging it is and how it combines movie and comic book aspects of magic.
The soundtrack is quite good, but the sound design was sadly impoverished. While I appreciate that Thor's sound effects were refurbished in a more unique way and Captain America and Iron Man have their soundsets intact, the sounds for blasts and beams in these games don't hold as much punch and sauce as the ones in LMSH1, LMA or even Lego Batman 3.
I will say, however, that visually this game looks awesome. While the best visuals in any LEGO Marvel game belong to Avengers, this is the most diverse and vibrant one. Character designs rock for the most part, level design is neat as well, but Chronopolis is easily the peak. Manhattan looks wonderfully in a wintery scenery, Asgard stuns with its apocalypse-laced lavaesque charm, Knowhere sucks you in with the high contrast deep space aesthetic, and the Hydra Empire is fucking gorgeous.
As for the individual characters, I can already say that Star-Lord, Spider-Man, the Inhumans, Venom, Vision, Korvac and Ms. Marvel got the best treatment. Iron Man (storywise, what they did to Tony is a FUCKING DISGRACE), Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange and Thor fare a lil' worse and I am positively MEH about Doctor Octopus, Hulk, She-Hulk and the Black Knight.
With that being said, I CANNOT WAIT to 100% the game, even if it's going to be a grind.

Rusty 2006 RAV4 XT3. Should I walk away?
Considering buying a 2006 RAV4 XT3 from a dealer in the UK, but I'm concerned about the rust (pictured) on the rear left undercarriage.
It's driven under 40k miles and any sale is conditional on it passing its MOT (vehicle inspection), but even so, I want to make sure it's not going to fall apart within the first year of ownership!
Please could anyone here advise whether this looks like a reasonable amount of rust for a near 20 year old car and if possible, which part(s) look affected any how much they would cost to repaireplace?
Thanks a lot!

2024.06.02 11:42 roll_me_some Audi A7 TFSI-e, 4K8 (2021, 20k Mileage) - Juddering low speed

Hi all, hoping someone can provide more details on this. I have browsed through forums and reddit, and there seemed to be mixed opinions on whether this is just how the DSG operates or whether it's a fault.
Purchase a new (to us) 2021 Audi A7 tfsi-e with low mileage on it from a non-Audi dealer 2 weeks ago (it was still a franchised dealer where someone had traded it in). When we first saw the car, it did need some repair to the body (scratches and couple of knocks).
Anyway post purchase, we noticed that the car judders - this normally happens at low speed and when turning. The dealer has looked at it and their outcome is that based on comparison with another Quattro Audi vehicle, this is a characteristic of the car.
Would someone be able to confirm if this is accurate or could the fault be somewhere else? I have purchase the Audi extended warranty and asked them to confirm being a 'characteristic' by Audi directly.
Cross post in CarTalkUK
Thanks!

2024.06.02 11:35 DragonfruitNo252 Xbox series s SSD problem

I purchased used Xbox series s 512GB and it wouldn't work. During the OS update it stucks on 66% and had error. I've ordered repair sad 512GB from one UK Xbox repair shop. I've used "Macrium Reflect" program to transfer partition of 1024MB (the one that is most important one) and even with that new ssd I've had the same problem. But as from yesterday (when I again tried to upgrade OS software) the console just turned on and then off. I've tried to turn on console without SSD and it will work, but when I put old or new ssd the console will turn on and then off. I cannot send console to Microsoft for the repair, my country doesn't have official Microsoft support, so that is out of the question. Any ideas how could I fix this series s Xbox?

2024.06.02 10:22 Equal-Quiet7714 Replacement for my Patagonia Atom Sling 8L ? (+ Review of a 4y use)

Hi 👋🏼 Looking to replace my 4years old Patagonia Atom Sling 8L (this version) This bag has been my absolute best friend for a girl living 4 years in Barcelona (I walk in the city A LOT) :
🩷 Would love your recommendations for any alternative !
So far I found those, if any of you have feedbacks on them : - Pacsafe® ECO 12L anti-theft Sling backpack - Ramverk Pro Sling Bag 20L but wish it wasn’t black
I could really do with a small rest on the “watching my bag at all time” to be honest so I thought Pacsafe would give me a (little) well deserved peace of mind for when I’m not in busy areas to don’t look at my zips getting open all the time.
Thanks ! ⭐️🙂

2024.06.01 22:34 Think_Sample9184 How do I fix my hair loss and weight gain please?

23F in London, UK of Bengali background. I work as a nurse. I have been experience intense and severe hair thinning, breakage and loss over the last 4 years.
I used to wash my hair daily, hardly ever put conditioner in, tight ponytails to school every day, no hair care whatsoever and had long silky hair down past my bellybutton when I was a teenager.
Now I have maybe 1/10th of my hair left despite shampoo and conditioner every few days, using a hair mask, using a silk pillow. I lose clumps and clumps of it daily. I do wear a chiffon headscarf and a tight band underneath but I’ve worn this since I was 19 and some traction alopecia I can expect however this is insane.
I have a background of PCOS according to the doctors (although my US came back clear for cysts). When I was younger, I used to have very irrrgular periods but now they are regular with a 2-5 day variance maybe in cycle length.
I am very vit D deficient according to doctors but take a daily vitamin D and iron supplement.
My bloods were checked last month- iron is slightly low, thyroid normal, no anaemia, just the low vitamin D.
I thought maybe it’s fungal infection- as I get this yellow scalp buildup and dandruff.
I currently use inecto conditioner and shampoo. Plus wella professionals fusion intense repair hair mask. I wash my hair every 3-4 days. I weekly massage my head with oils and leave it overnight before washing it.
I am so depressed due to it esp as I have excessive hair growing everywhere else I feel like and I just want to give up.
In addition to this I’ve gained so much weight. I used to weight 50kg 6 years ago and I now weight 68. I’ve been working on exercising more and eating more healthy too.
What else can I do? What is going on?

2024.06.01 21:10 rolorolo3388 Reinstating chimney use in terrace.

We are going to view a property on Monday, it’s a grade 2 listed Victorian terrace. It’s run down and looks like it’s spent some time as a rented property and I’d love to respectfully update and restore it.
What are the considerations/easiest ways to bring the chimneys back into use? Being a terrace the chimneys are shared with the neighbours. Looking at property listings all fireplaces and chimneys appear to be blocked and covered in the three terraced houses. Do the neighbours have to agree to repairs to be done from their side also? Can we just install a flue inside the chimney and use log burners? Is there anything we could come across that would prevent us from being able to use them?
I’ve tried looking online but I’m struggling to find anything relevant. Also posted on housing uk.
Thanks

2024.06.01 17:49 wolfmaskman Advice Needed - Repairing a second hand Fursuit

Advice Needed - Repairing a second hand Fursuit
Good Afternoon fellow Furry/Fursuiters
I'm looking for a bit of advice on repairing a Furhead that i bought second hand about 9 months ago.
Now i bought it with the intention of learning from it to make my own and to explore my furry side.
I haven't worn him outside the house yet as he feels a bit unstable and i've decided to take steps to repair him. I could tell that none of the fur was sewn. The edges were dont properly as the foam under was visible and where there was a large gap i patch of fur had been just stuck on. And during my teardown i found 3 pins still inside.
Now thats in no way a criticism of the person i bought it off. If it is their first fursuit then its really impressive. I've yet to actually make one so i dont know how it'll pan out.
Now here is the teardown before and after:
https://preview.redd.it/ohlwsefoez3d1.jpg?width=1180&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27c327bb9a8ba368bb23332cd3c5faebe22ef4a6
Now my list of things to do:
  • Reinforce the Jaw
    • I'll probably down this with elastic and strips of foam
  • Resculpt the ears and eyes
  • Possibly repaint the eyes
I'd like some advice on how i can do that.
I'm thinking i can use something like this for the reinforcement: Elastic Strips
And something like this for the resculpting: Cosplay Foam Clay
I know i'll need to do the Clingfilm/Plastic Wrap & Ducktape combo to get a pattern afterwards. Then get the fabric and sew it all together and trim it down. That bit i'll probably need help with at some point but for now i just wanna focus on repairs.
So ya :D any help, guidance or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Now my list of things to do:
I'd like some advice on how i can do that.
I'm thinking i can use something like this for the reinforcement: Elastic Strips
And something like this for the resculpting: Cosplay Foam Clay
I know i'll need to do the Clingfilm/Plastic Wrap & Ducktape combo to get a pattern afterwards. Then get the fabric and sew it all together and trim it down. That bit i'll probably need help with at some point but for now i just wanna focus on repairs.
So ya :D any help, guidance or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
