2024.06.01 10:42 MindlessAlfalfa323 Why I'm Glad the West is Falling

In the 19, nearly 20, years I have lived my life, I was raised a Christian by American conservatives in a middle class environment and am fortunate to experience countless memories of joy, laughter, and growth with (mostly) everybody I have met. Each memory with the people in my life holds a special place in my heart, and I will forever cherish the bond we built.
The thing is that until the end of eighth grade, I had a strange obsession with East Asia. Looking back, it was very embarrassing and I condemn my parents for enabling me to become a weeaboo (by “weeaboo”, I mean “a person who is overly obsessed with East Asian culture, especially Japanese culture, to the point that they fetishize the culture in an unhealthy way”). I was the textbook example of a weeaboo who had a terrible case of “yellow fever” (sexual preference towards East Asians). Loving the image of East Asian culture without having any real idea what it stood for and seeing the East as a utopia, my fetishization of East Asia, especially Japan, was born out of the shame I have with the Western culture I was raised in. I never felt like I could fit in with my Western peers who I often looked down upon and did not want to be associated with. It got to the point that I became unsatisfied with my home town, my physical appearance, and even my closest friends. This combined with the surge in anime, K-pop, and other media on the internet really got me hooked and believing really fetish-y things about the Sinosphere. I hate being reminded of it and have tried to move on.
However, I am thankful for my exposure to Eastern culture, though it was through a very bastardized, Westernized lens. I am grateful for my exposure, even though it started out with something as intellectually undemanding as Vocaloid music (songs sung by a Japanese voice synthesizer). The best part about the exposure was that it helped me leave Christianity and join Buddhism at age 11, which greatly helped with my mental health considering I was experiencing suicidal thoughts since the age of 8. Though I had awful misunderstandings of Buddhism in the beginning and still do not really have a Buddhist teacher, I am glad that I have the resources to connect myself with other Buddhists and take refuge in the Triple Gem.
As I left my gross misconceptions of the Sinosphere behind back when I was 14 while still having a healthy interest in it, my eyes were eventually opened to perils which threaten not only the homelands of Buddhism (East, South, and Southeast Asia), but also the sustainability of modern humans. These two perils are Western culture and capitalist fascism.
The West exoticizes and misrepresents Buddhism and the culture of its home, the East, as a whole. I am ashamed to be born in a culture where this was encouraged, which I am worried could lead me to fetishizing Eastern culture again.
But what I know for sure is that the West’s hyperindividualism is harming people, both those whose lands are invaded and its own people. This combined with the West’s growing rejection of education, including that of the knowledge the West itself has given to the world for humanity’s benefit, makes it clear that it is lacking some of the Sinosphere’s cultural strengths. Everybody should hold collectivism and education to the same degree that the Sinosphere does, otherwise we would be left with an unsustainable society that would destroy itself.
There is nothing wrong with speaking Western languages, eating Western foods, watching (most types of) Western media, wearing Western clothes, and especially nothing wrong with using Western inventions, but we are now seeing that the West’s hyperindividualism and rejection of education is destructive and spreading like a cancer.
It is only Buddhists who make an effort to assimilate to the East (had they not been born into it) who can see the West with its hyperindividualism and uneducatedness, promoted by its creation of its spreading ideologies such as capitalist fascism and social Darwinism, for what it really is: a cancer. I can now see the direction the United States, the most populated and powerful country in the West, is going due to the rise of ultra-capitalism and/or fascism supporters.
Rarely the phrase “Western”, as in “formed by the combined foundations of Greco-Roman civilization and Western Christianity” (Gabbe), raised positive thoughts in my mind since I learned about it shortly after discovering Buddhism. “Western” when used in the context of medicine is an exception to this, but we are now seeing more and more Westerners dishonor the progress their ancestors made towards modern, mainstream, dare I say, Western medicine as they fall for anti-vaccine and anti-mask pseudoscience.
Nowadays, some who use the word in a derogatory context are uneducated reactionaries that bash anything and everything Western, yet hypocritically promote the Western political ideology of fascism. A strength that a majority (though now a decreasing number) of Western countries have is their progressivism, supporting scientific advancements, women’s rights, racial equality, and the LGBT+. However, this is not just becoming less common; being a progressive Westerner is not enough, not enough to end Western imperialism, to save the sacred truths taught to us by the Shakyamuni Buddha, or to empower the working class.
Although I never fully approved of Western culture after my weeaboo phase ended, my early teen self still ended up falling into the anti-social justice warrior side of YouTube that I now recognized hindered my understanding of what actually ruined my country, the United States of America. I still did not feel comfortable calling myself a Westerner but mainly because the West did not widely accept Buddhism and has several times in its history persecuted Buddhists. At the same time, I was deceived by a bastardized form of Buddhism common among Westerners (known as “secular Buddhism”, which picks and chooses aspects of the Buddha’s teachings instead of accepting them as a whole), so I was a bit more of the classic, stereotypical atheist neckbeard who fetishized the East up until 2020. Since then, my views became more progressive similar to those of American liberals and I denounced traditionalist Western beliefs, but like the average American liberal, I did not see Western culture, both traditional and progressive, as the peril I now see it. It was not until around the end of 2023 when I discovered the Western problem.
It was a slow burn that started with my discovery of Buddhists on the internet talking about how the West misrepresented Buddhism to appeal to “self-help” consumerists, Christians, and New Age followers. In the Westerner, I originally saw only a person who followed harmless customs, traditions, and other norms that came from a part of the world where Buddhism was not the dominant religion (if you could even call the non-theistic dharma as taught by the Gautama Buddha a religion). And so, I did not believe that Western civilization needed to fall for the safety of the dharma, let alone for its own people. After all, I thought to myself, the West has contributed so much to science and the modern world as we know it. I still believe to this day that there are no superior cultures and that each one simply has its own unique strengths and weaknesses, some of which are only subjective. However, while looking through Buddhist forums, I was shocked to hear about the West’s pollution of Buddhism and my knowledge on Buddhism skyrocketed as I learned that I fell victim to the Dunning-Kruger effect. I started reading sutras and immersing myself with Buddhism by listening to those who have much more experience than I do. There are hardly any Buddhists in my community and the only Buddhist center within reach is a New Kadampa Tradition meditation center (FYI: the New Kadampa Tradition must be avoided since it has a reputation for financially exploiting members and its monastics have allegations of drug trafficking and sexual abuse), so books and the internet are all I have left.
Practicing Buddhism in the West is nearly impossible without a community, without a Buddhist teacher, without any resources written by Eastern Buddhists. Reddit user u/Tendai-Student, a “lay Tendai Student [sic] with aspirations to become a Priest [sic]” states the following:
It is exceedingly challenging for a Westerner who is interested in Buddhism to find reliable information. Bookstores' Buddhist sections are rife with myths about the religion (we will come to some of these misconceptions below). Buddhism-related disinformation abounds in university classes. Misinformation about Buddhism abounds in publications with a Buddhist theme. Even Buddhism-related english-speaking [sic] Reddit boards are prone to carry false information.
Buddhism is constantly distorted in the same way: to make it more agreeable to Abrahamic faiths(especially Christianity in the west) [sic]. To imply that it is subject to Western standards, Western religion, and Western consumerism and materialism.
…Asian teachers are frequently excluded from English-speaking Buddhist places (meditation centers, university forums, periodicals). Asians make up the majority of Buddhists in the United States, despite the fact that popular images of Buddhism in the West make it appear otherwise. In the minds of Westerners, Buddhism is a religion of white converts. They don't even pay attention to the odd lack of Asians in some Buddhist areas. (u/Tendai-Student)
It is no wonder that I went through a phase when I was a weeaboo with “yellow fever”. The Westerner commodifies and commercializes these Buddhist practices and East Asian customs like they do with several other cultures. Its misuse and stealing of Buddhism is the worst because its teachings are for us to end suffering by ridding ourselves of the three poisons: greed, ignorance, and hatred (which the Westerner promotes).
My realization of this drew me away from the West, similar to when my obsession with the East began. The difference is that my interest in the East now is not because of a fantasy born out of misguidance, especially not a sexual one. I now know that there is more to the East than its pop culture. But I cannot help thinking that none of this would have happened and I would better understand Buddhism had I been born to and raised by Buddhists in East Asia, or even a majority Buddhist country in South or Southeast Asia.
However, the possibility of a cycle starting with a yo-yoing fetishization of the East makes me anxious. When I realized what I was doing at first was fetishization, I did further research and found out that the West is to blame for its portrayal of the East in its media. This in turn makes me denounce the West and brings me back towards my obsession with the Sinosphere, which could lead to more fetishization.
Despite this, I am glad that at the very least, my interest is more than just wanting to live a kawaii lifestyle, hoping to have a “submissive housewife who will look young forever”, or all that neckbeard squick. I do have to say that there is something else that is drawing me towards the Sinosphere, not to mention that it is the region where Buddhism is dominant (the same is true to a lesser extent with the Indosphere). Even though I am not a huge fan of tradition since I am very progressive, when a region’s culture gets something right, they get it right. In addition to Buddhist values, the Sinosphere holds education and collectivism to a high degree. It is no wonder I find their people so much more intelligent and caring than people from my culture.
It is common knowledge that countries such as Japan, China, South Korea, and Singapore have the highest average IQs. To add to this (unbeknownst to many), even less developed countries, e.g. Mongolia, with high Buddhist populations around the same region, have average IQs higher than developing and undeveloped nations outside the region. The most agreed upon reason for this is cultural factors rather than genetic or economic factors. To conclude, Buddhism combined with values in the East Asian cultural sphere creates the best “brains” to represent humanity, thus the West should make way for them, especially considering the East’s superior collectivism.
Of course cultures do not stay the same forever because they change over time. One big thing that is different now in the Sinosphere and Indosphere (the latter I am mentioning because it is where Buddhism came from, though it is not as dominant in the cultural region as it was) is that they are generally much more patriarchal and anti-LGBT+ than they were up until the last several centuries. However, Buddhism treats same-sex relations and being transgender the same as heterosexuality and being cisgender (preferring celibacy among monastics, though depending on the school of Buddhism, those in the monastic order may be treated as their birth gender, even if they are transgender), and in addition, the Buddha taught that women are just as capable of attaining enlightenment as men. Even outside of Buddhism, there are records of same-sex relations as early as the Shang dynasty in China and the temple walls in Khajuraho, India depict homosexual activity. As for feminism, China was matrilineal until the Han dynasty era, when Confucianism and filial piety became mainstream in the area, while India, home to over 100 different ethnic communities, has had a few matriarchal and egalitarian societies pre-European colonization. In the modern era, numerous people in the two cultural spheres are becoming more supportive of gender equality and the LGBT+, which in some cases may be due to Westernization (not that it redeems it) or simply the individuals’ progressive political views not influenced by Western culture.
What has stayed the same for the most part, besides Buddhism, is the Sinosphere’s and Indosphere’s value of collectivism in honor-shame societies and the former cultural sphere’s emphasis on education; this is what Westerners, as well as people all over the world, need for themselves. If the West is going to fall due to hyperconsumerism, late stage capitalism, and uneducated leaders, those living in the West would be better off joining Buddhism and assimilating to the East. Arguably, the best way to do this is to move to a majority Buddhist country, preferably one in the Sinosphere (its core countries being China, Japan, the Koreas, Taiwan, and Vietnam). Leave everybody you know from your home behind, especially non-Buddhists. Just to make things clear, Westerners are not necessarily evil and it is not their fault they were raised in a Western culture, but having these people in your life will hold you back from collectivism, quality education free of anti-intellectual quackery, and above all, understanding the dharma.
After you have left everybody in your life and started anew, you can immerse yourself in the culture. Again, abandoning Western food, media, clothing, and especially inventions and scientific breakthroughs is very unnecessary. Your main focus is reprogramming your mind to think like a person (specifically a Buddhist person) in the Sinosphere/Indosphere, utilizing the high educational standards, putting the collective over the individual, and taking refuge in the Triple Gem. Before moving, though, it is best to make yourself familiar with the customs and learn the language of the place you are moving to. To aid your assimilation, it would not hurt to start dating one of the locals who strongly identifies with the culture, regardless of their race. Someone living there who is not ethnically East, South, or Southeast Asian who is still very involved in the culture would be very helpful to your assimilation as one who is ethnically East, South, or Southeast Asian (I am clarifying this to discourage racial fetishization). This may be difficult as you would have to win over approval from their parents, let alone convince them to see you as another Easterner, but if you manage to do so, that would be fantastic. To make things easier, you could plan to move to a country where people treat women as equals and are relatively accepting of the LGBT+ so you would not have to worry about gender roles or whatever. Think of places in the Sinosphere such as Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, or if you are planning on going to the Indosphere (which is not too big of a step down) since they did give us Buddhism after all, Nepal and Thailand. Your most important goal, however, is to rewire your brain to think in a more Sinic or Indic way and be more in touch with Buddhism.
You can hardly consider yourself a Westerner if you manage to do so, being Western only in your country of origin (and possibly race as well). I am definitely not like those other “people” from the West who strongly cling to Western culture because they just do not understand. Western cultural merit is almost solely from the proxy of our ancestors’ inventions, scientific discoveries, and political revolutions. Considering that the West is being brought towards the wrong direction in the modern era, we should get out of there culturally, if not physically, until it all hits the fan.
If the West continues its defilement of the rest of the world, when it falls, it will bring it all down with it. We must not lose or else everybody loses.
This pressure has a good side; because the bigger the great threat becomes, the more we will push ourselves to assimilate and raise children to fight for us. Considering the infectability of Western anti-intellectualism and “main character syndrome”, how could our Western peers know better? Buddhism is not a proselytizing “religion”, so our best bet is eliminating the promoter of the three poisons, the Westerner (especially the Christian Westerner), from our own lives. How it will run to us as its society collapses under itself and we welcome it to assimilate but say “we told you so”! The older I get, the better I know the Westerner. The better I know the Westerner, the easier it gets to excuse hostility against them, especially from the Sinosphere.
From my perspective, the ones to blame are not the angry, low-middle class white males in the rural United States nor the boba conservative bananas and right-wing coconuts who suck up to the West’s biggest scum, but rather the ones who have brainwashed them to fall for chauvinism, reactionarism, and laissez faire capitalism.
Realizing this, I am now closely investigating the sources of these beliefs which make up the foundation of social Darwinism and, when combined with totalitarian thinking, capitalist fascism. This is after I noticed that these systems are unsustainable and would destroy themselves from the inside out. The slow, painful destruction of communities who fall victim to them are well known to me. If one looks carefully, they can see the consequences that have been unfolding since the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic. You may wonder: were the founders aware of this? My guess would be that they were not but were evil nonetheless because they were too selfish to think about the future, their descendants.
If this is the case, then it is the duty of us, the opponents of these ideologies, to spread the word faster than the ideologies are currently spreading in the West. It is hard for me to believe it is not the case considering that both Western political ideologies are fundamentally reactionary. Besides, I doubt they would want civilization as we know it to collapse.
I have a social Darwinist as a maternal uncle who sometimes meets with my parents, maternal grandfather, and younger brother and with his political conversations, often sourced from flawed studies, Russian news, and 4chan, I can easily study the principles of its theories. Both of my parents are also conservatives who support Trump and other immoral American politicians. Being raised by the two of them, I bet I could disguise myself as a Western right-wing traditionalist, maybe even a social Darwinist, since I know the way they speak, to whom they flock to, and how to make them give one their full attention. It would probably be easy to do this as some right-wing grifters can fool American right-wing audiences into thinking that they share the same beliefs (e.g. Thomas MacDonald).
Their kind are gullible because they do not listen to fact checkers and often do not do research to see if who they are listening to really practices what they preach.
Even though there are Westerners who are not like this, the West cannot coexist with Buddhism, let alone the cultures where it is dominant, as the West ruled by colonizing tirthikas and it will likely always be for as long as it lasts. And just because their culture is not as viable as the one founded on Buddhist, Sinic, or even Indic values does not give them the right to imperialize the rest of the world and bring it down with them. We can welcome the Westerner willing to change its ways, turn it into one of an Easterner, and have its culture go through a quick and painless demise, or the Westerner can continue its power trip, destroy everything it touches along with itself, and society will suffer a slow and painful death. This is what the conclusion that I have come to so far as I examine capitalist fascism and Westerners’ connection to it.
The Western doctrine of capitalist fascism rejects an aspect of maitrī, fulfilling beings’ basic needs, and substitutes it for a privilege towards the bourgeoisie and the exploitation of the workers’ labor (also known as Vergegenständlichung or “objectification”). Thus it denies the worth of the collective, only concerns itself with greedy individuals, and thus is immoral. Unlike what the non-Buddhist capitalist wants people to believe, all beings have an altruistic Buddha nature, but it is corrupted, being difficult to notice as it has only conditions without a beginning (listed in the Avijjā Sutta). Abandoning capitalism, both fascist and non-fascist, gives power to the people as it ensures a more guaranteed right to life instead of having not even one thousand billionaires own more than half of Earth’s population combined, more than each one of those billionaires could ever spend in their lifetimes.
Should the Westerner, especially one who pushes capitalist fascism, strengthen its grip on humanity, it can be said that it would make its own naraka.
And so I stand by my plan and encourage others to do the same because it is in the name of the Unsurpassable Enlightened One. By protecting our kind against the Westerner, we are defending the Triple Gem.
If it is not already clear, the disapproval I feel towards the societal values and prevailing norms of the West has led me to question my place in this environment. I believe that meaningful change can only be fostered if the West is put into its place and the Sino-Buddhist East motivates our minds.
In Vietnam, where the culture is predominantly Sinic with some Indic aspects and little European influence, we can see the promotion of quality education, collectivism, and Buddhism (practiced by a forgivable 15% of the population), very unlike the nearby country of the Philippines. In the Philippines, its citizens cling to the Anglo-Saxon and Hispanic culture brought to the country by American and Spaniard imperialists. The effects of this are very clear in their average IQs (Vietnam: 89.53 vs. Philippines: 81.64) and PISA scores (Vietnam: 1403 vs. Philippines: 1058). They are both developing countries in Southeast Asia that were colonized by the West, but because Vietnam kept its culture more pure and stuck to Buddhism (or at least Sinic philosophies), its people are better educated compared to the nearby Westernized countries in a similar economic situation.
In short, Westernization leads to the following:
  1. The native culture becomes diluted
  2. If Western thinking intrudes, mental degeneration takes hold of the native population and its society slowly degrades along with the West itself as it eats itself from the inside out
Those who cause this to happen must be stopped, especially those who endanger Buddhism. We must not wait for the fruition of their karma for their sacrilege of the Tathagata’s teachings because by then it would be too late, and even if it is instant karma, every bodhisattva’s job is to end suffering.
Those who spread the harmful ideologies bring themselves and others away from the Buddha’s word are polluting humanity by having them join their rat race that will only end in their own demise. They are leading to the ruin of many and thus, I do not consider them to be human but instead parasites.
There is a disgraceful Western belief that for a short amount of time was not held by the majority but is now very pervasive in the West and also is the foundation of reactionarism, chauvinism, and capitalism in all cultures. It says: “My individual rights matter the most and freedom means my right to violate the rights of others.”
This Western babble is followed by numerous all around the world and sows disharmony in societies where it becomes the norm. This idea provides basis for several types of Westerners, including but not limited to:
The growth of these groups is evidence of the degradation of Western culture, showing that it must retire as the dominant culture and make way for the much more sustainable East. Once the manuṣya realm on Earth is completely tainted by the West, Buddhas can no longer arise in the world because the dharma would be known by nobody and the Vinaya are forgotten or destroyed.
The future generation will not remember the dharma unless we halt the growth of the parasitic culture that promotes overconsumption, hyperindividualism, and anti-intellectualism.
The Westerner has a remarkable contrast to the Sinic or Indic. The Westerner has a grasp on this world so strong with its weaponry since the 16th century, using force to disrupt the traditional lives of whatever native people it saw, safe for those in a few countries (even though some of those countries are still being Westernized). The Dutch, English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish built colonies from the Americas to Southeast Asia. The kingdoms were blessed with powerful militaries, strong economies, stable governments, and advanced technology that allowed their cultures to spread. But after half a millennium and looking back, was any of this really earned? And is the Westerner’s conquest over yet?
Since the Great Schism of Christianity, the Westerner trained itself for roughly one thousand years. It trained itself in several aspects, but it forgot an important piece, the dharma. The cunning Westerner, blessed with advancements, used them to tyrannize other peoples on a scale never before seen. This was the beginning of the Latter Day of the Dharma. The dharma is declining because of the savage Westerner. And so, it leeched off of any people it got a hold of, including predominantly Buddhist peoples. Even during the decolonization of the 20th century, fundamentalist Christianity spread and threatened the dharma. To make matters worse, previously Buddhist peoples clung to Christianity as taught by their colonizers; the French in Vietnam and the Spanish and Americans in the Philippines. To this day, the Philippines is a lost cause along with its majority Muslim neighbors in Maritime Southeast Asia. The cunning Westerner turned the Filipino against us and now Buddhists make up only 2% of the Philippines’ population. Now, the Westerner sees Buddhism as nothing more than an aesthetic, a self-help lifestyle, or a decoration that they can commercialize and cherry pick aspects to integrate into their religion or lack thereof.
It is excellent for someone from the West to learn the dharma as this will turn them into a more compassionate and wise person, but they must not enforce the Western gaze onto it and discard parts of the Shakyamuni Buddha’s words they do not like. To be fair, some aspects of Buddhism would be nearly impossible for a Westerner to understand unless they assimilate.
Buddhism is not materialist or blind belief without evidence and it belongs to the East, so stop pretending to be something you are not while pushing stereotypes of Asian Buddhists.
However, even though Buddhism is not materialist or very in line with the Western worldview, it is uniquely human. Walpola Rahula, a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk and writer explains it this way:
Among the founders of religions the Buddha (if we are permitted to call him the founder of a religion in the popular sense of the term) was the only teacher who did not claim to be other than a human being, pure and simple. Other teachers were either God, or his incarnations in different forms, or inspired by him. The Buddha was not only a human being; he claimed no inspiration from any god or external power either. He attributed all his realization, attainments and achievements to human endeavour and human intelligence. A man and only a man can become Buddha. Every man has within himself the potentiality of becoming a Buddha, if he so wills it and endeavours. We can call the Buddha a man par excellence. He was so perfect in his 'human-ness' that he came to be regarded later in popular religion almost as 'super-human'. Man's position, according to Buddhism, is supreme. Man is his own master, and there is no higher being or power that sits in judgment over his destiny. (Rahula 3)
How could one even consider the Westerners who diluted Buddhism human themselves at this point? If it were not for them, Westerners may have a better understanding of the teachings of the “man par excellence”. We are lucky that the only Westerners who necessarily see us as inferior are white nationalists and fundamentalist Christians, otherwise the Westerner could have committed a genocide that would have left millions of us dead. Westerners are competitive beings, so they rarely act in concord towards each other. It is only when there is something that draws them together or away from a common danger.
If everybody on Earth becomes a Westerner, they would wallow in their shamelessness and would have nobody left to exploit except for each other until they destroy themselves.
Until they are the only ones left, they will vilify and exploit anything non-Western until they only have each other, then leading to a chaotic world of undignified militaries, economic inequality, corrupt governments, and little or no innovations.
Unless the Westerner considers even the slightest of inspiration from the East, it will continue to follow hyperindividualism and have apathy towards its education. That is why the West is falling. Those from the West who are smart enough to realize that the West’s flaws that it spreads are deciding that the West is not worth maintaining and its resignation is overdue. If those from the West abandon it to assimilate to the East, it would make the West’s death quicker but more dignified.
This is more than a fad but rather the realization that Western society would be best being a passing fad itself. The West gave us great inventions, food, clothes, scientific discoveries, etc. and once it is gone, the East can pick up where it left off just fine.
We will never abandon the Triple Gem because we recognize it to be more than a spiritual, exotic aesthetic or trend. To do so would make us just like those others in the West who Asian Buddhists look down upon. When the time is right, each and every one of us will surround ourselves with the people who know the dharma better than anyone you have met in the West and we can finally be at their level. We shall be Western only in our country of origin and/or race, but in every other way, we will be Easterners; Buddhist Easterners who will take back what rightfully belongs to us.
When we (and hopefully Buddhists outside of both the Eastern and the Western world) do this, consumerism will lose some of its biggest prey. Even though it may not seem like it at first considering we are abandoning everyone we have ever known, we are doing our ancestors a favor by joining the culture that strives towards the end of suffering. We will be leaving our cultures’ ways of thinking behind, but doing this will save face for our lineage, especially the Western lineage as we would be preventing the creation of more “Karens”, “Chuds”, dayangmas, “neckbeards”, and other degenerates. We will not be annoying dorky nerds and certainly not “neckbeards” who are overly obsessed with and fetishize the culture but people making an effort to get closer to the dharma and surrender to the East.
Although we are collectivists, we must seek personal liberation first for the good of other beings. Once the West collapses and its former supporters come running to us, we shall welcome them. If some do not recognize this before it is too late, well boo hoo! They will have a better birth with the world we will create. Some of them, especially their unlucky spawn, would probably be better off dead and reborn into a better life, maybe even the Pure Land.
The way it is looking now, the West is falling and becoming the world’s laughingstock, which is a good thing. The quicker it falls, the less painful it will be for the Westerner and everybody else. Western culture will not be missed, but we can keep the best of it and continue the innovations that the creators would wish to see. We will remember the legacy of them and be thankful while never forgiving or forgetting the ones who ruined the West.

2024.06.01 05:51 doublej08 34 [M4F] Virginia/Online looking for a friend gaming buddy maybe relationship

I’m 34 I live in Virginia I’m hoping to find a new friend that maybe could turn into a relationship if we hit it off. I do have pics of me on my profile so you can see what I look like. You could be local or distant from me. Just know I might not be able to answer right away if you live far away.
The things that I’m most into would be videogames, music, and old horror movies.
I love playing videogames I just kind of get lost in the worlds and this just chills me out. If you were a gamer also that would be a huge plus we could game and talk over discord or something. I have most consoles but mainly play on PC. Currently running through wow classic again because I’m a old nerd. I usually play rpgs fallout/dark souls fps cod/battlefield also play phasmaphobia but that creeps me out to much to play alone.
I listen to pretty much anything but I say rock/metal is my go to on most days. Metallica tool Korn misfits the list goes on and on
I watch old horror movies because sometimes they just creep me out and sometimes they are kind of funny because of the old special effects.

2024.06.01 03:50 Acceptable_Device782 UWQHD vs WQHD in a 2 monitor setup

Currently using an Asus ProArt PA247CV as my only monitor. I am looking at getting a larger screen to use as my main, with the Asus as my secondary/colouring monitor.
Current GPU is the RX 7600. My main uses for the new monitor are music and video production/editing as well as gaming. I have a 34" UWQHD and a 32" WQHD I am eyeing, and I want to make sure I'm not setting myself up for a technical headache. I obviously want as much screen real estate as I can get in the production environment, I just don't want it to cause issues while playing games.
For gaming, I only intend to use proper 1440p. I play single player games, aiming for 60FPS and am perfectly happy with medium/high settings. Games I currently play include Titanfall 2, Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, some older Battlefield and CoD titles, Frostpunk, Timberborn, The Ascent, etc. I realize that UWQHD can make some games angry...am I likely to be fine by selecting a WQHD resolution? Will I just get black bars on the sides and be able to play just fine?
Additionally, is there any word on modern AMD GPUs causing a fuss when running two monitors at different resolutions?

2024.06.01 01:44 GaryGaulin Historic Felonies of Donald Trump showing the way for Jury System in Gaza, and all Palestine too.

There is now a new historical parallel to Gaza in Donald Trump being found guilty of 34 felonies. It's an example where in Gaza there was no way to stop before starting. Jury Duty service, I'm old enough to have experience with. As long as you're physically able we have a civic responsibility to report when called to the Jury Pool. Once there they play a video of how there is a good chance they will not need us. Once they played a good part of the Spider Man movie I never saw before, good versus evil theme just right for the occasion. One time I was called as a juror. It was an easy case to decide, done that day.
There is no dictator deciding. It's what I as juror decided, happy to have served in. At first I wished I could stay home. Feel good once there. Not as boring as I thought. They try to make it a fun learning experience about how the judicial system works.
Gazans wanting this judicial system in the government to replace Hamas dictatorship, would be something the free-world would be excited by. Want to invest in the fastest rebuild in history. Otherwise the Republican plan looks better all the time. Instead get UN tents to match the "refugee" status Hamas depended on for charity money. Made it seem like all wanted to leave Gaza anyway. The image made it easy for that to be stolen by the real estate sharks already swimming around offshore. The biggest of them all just had a jury of peers bring him down. Moral lesson of King Nothing plays on.
Rebuilds for Gaza can include modern court buildings planned for jury pool comfort. In getting back to WW2 the very lenient denazification method of the French might work as long as they can take their place in it. Can help now by figuring out how to adapt the USA material to educate and entertain a jury pool. Judges and all others are just to make sure we the jury get all the facts.
Those who are waiting out the battle together can use the time to plan for when its time for the IDF to be their entourage back home to safely implement. It's not what Israel would have come up with. But they have to love them, or even President Biden might get angry. He's into history, reminds us it's watching. A Reddit sub for doing what Ben Franklin would do looks like is not exactly what President Biden was imagining either. With all said, it's even better. Gaza and the USA are for different reasons both back to the scientist founder of this nation. Independence was from British colonialism, while for Gaza it's a WW2 German taxation without representation colonialism controlled in the Middle East through the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem then later Hamas.
Colonists want adherence to their religion and rules no choice. Jury system does the opposite by giving that power to we the people. It's then an in it together sort of thing, not something unique to Gaza, at just the right time in history to help Gazans prepare for rebuilding society with them in control of important court actions this time. Colonists like Christian nationalists were using Trump to impose a religious dictatorship.
The more a shared history the better, for planning strategy where on side the only orders in the (as in psychology for this purpose) parallel culture/structure/society to find sanity and reason inside are from Sheryl Crow to Lighten Up and Soak Up the Sun plays on!
What matters for Gaza and the USA is presented in a video with a famous history professor, Allan Lichtman, who for Times Radio brilliantly answers questions we most need answered for how the jury system relates to the future of the USA, Gazans who want Hamas to stay gone also need to know. Goes with the stickied on top strategy from Korean War success that led to K-Pop then "election fever" in South Korea. The best way to present this became in an environment where these parallels make sense together, in context of a much larger biblical sized united Palestine. Think big!
https://www.reddit.com/UnitedStatesPalestine/comments/1d4qada/selfdenazification_of_the_united_states_of/
There has been enough positive response to know I am not alone, I am confident the message is making it through to Gaza, and Democratic Party where Donald's example likewise connects their example into what is going on regarding culture change of both happening in parallel. It's then not an issue the Democratic Party is stuck in the middle of with no other way to really help them at the people level. It's then their example, where they here forward can keep in mind Gazans having a worse but same problem. It's outside "colonialism" from a scientist who knew religious "colonists" and would likely be here at this sub right now helping to explain all this to us. He was such a role model to me, my earlier posting of WW2 history at Palestinian made it easy to see by thinking of a United States of Palestine, by the year 2100..Thanks to Donald it's simpler than ever. Before then not even I was sure what next, in that to some crazy sounding direction, then there it was!
I have been watching how for many here the "Free Palestine" movement ended up turning you off after seeing the trouble it led. Needed a new direction. Good time to explain where what I have been working on, has just gone. In this case, we don't need politicians. IDF soldiers are already showing off their dancing skills, and have a fun new way to help end the war for good. They only have to combine with the emerging sound of Gaza towards a K-Pop but higher level science, history, and working together to end the latest echo of WW2 before it's a WW3. Already have the To Gaza with Love playlist to help get the party started. Another for WW2 era Andrews Sisters into Trump family history.
IDF troops are already singing and dancing on the battlefield. They don't need permission to do more, Gazans invited. Maybe compose a catchy welcoming song that invites them to make new music together towards a united Palestine by 2100, see what happens. Israel already has a close enough system, not for them. It's from Reddit for the other four states involved in the same conflict. By example Gaza uniting with Israel shows the way for the other three, or more possible states in the union, Israel already fits into when the time comes. Can do without the fence.
To a Gazan youngster not old enough to have been fully indoctrinated into the Hamas conditioning (to make them hate others instead of normal accepting) it's a life changer to sense the war is not against them. Palestine as Hamas saw it is replaced with a map of Palestine in Biblical days with various states in it. A teaching moment for the IDF to surprise with. Are then obviously are not against Palestine either. Otherwise they have to try making them stop believing, not work.
It's a tradeoff the IDF entertainers can live with, will control, towards rebuilding their culture with new role models like Ben Franklin and required jury duty. It's then possible to explain WW2 history of the Middle East holocaust that Israelis are frustrated by not being able to accept when it comes from them.
Reddit's /Palestinian is in no denial. Credit to subs in the network the IDF can give credit back, to avoid Israeli politicians from having to come up with strategy from their state government model or UN. It's a Palestinian cause they can personally support, and are at liberty to discuss with those who need to know. Best for Hamas to not know. Mostly kids who are impressed by their music and want to help make more. Something worth giving a try when IDF are outside of direct combat with Hamas. I hope you agree it is, or at least is not object.

2024.06.01 01:00 BMI0702 Seattle Wasteland Radio Playlist

Seattle Wasteland Radio Playlist
This is the radio playlist I made for my campaign set in post-nuclear Seattle!
A little in-universe background: Holy Nirvana FM is the only radio station on the Puget Wasteland, operated by the Monks of Holy Nirvana. The Monks are a group of wastelanders that form a cult dedicated to the band Nirvana. Their "cathedral" are the ruins of the Seattle Pop Culture Museum.
Some out of universe explanation of my ethos making this playlist: The three Fallout games with radios have very distinct musical identities. Fallout 3 is a lot of slower, kinda somber big brass jazz pieces, which fits the high Americana of DC. Fallout 4 is a lot more up-tempo rockabilly, fitting the more fast paced gameplay and setting of Boston. And New Vegas of course has a lot of country because it's cowboy shit.
So I wanted to have Nirvana songs on the playlist, obviously, but I also wanted to lean into counter-cultural music. There's a lot of early punk and some anti-Vietnam songs on there, as well as a lot of music by queer and POC artists. I feel this fits the general culture and diversity of Seattle a lot. I have some oldie big band songs just to get more of the Fallout tone across as well. The modern, contemporary songs are meant to be pieces written and recorded by the Monks themselves, as they actively make new music. The general vibe swings back and forth between fast and loud, and slow and lethargic. This playlist is meant to represent the counter-cultures of Old World America and the cutting edge of music prior to the Great War.
Enjoy!

2024.05.31 22:58 doublej08 34 [M4F] Virginia/online

If I haven’t bored you already and are still interested message me and see where things go.

2024.05.31 20:52 yendortheviking It’s been 1 year and I turn 26 today

One year ago, my boyfriend passed away suddenly 3 days before my birthday. I was shattered and devastated. We chose each other, and I knew exactly what my life was going to look like with him. We were going to sail the world, move in together, give our parents grandkids… he made me believe in love. Every day after his passing, I would look at myself in the mirror and I wouldn’t be able to recognize myself. I didn’t know who I was without him, and it scared me. It scared me that I was turning into a new person that he wouldn’t recognize, and maybe someone he wouldn’t love anymore. I was growing further away from him.
Even though it’s been the worst year of my life, I did some pretty amazing things. I started going to therapy, I went on the trips we planned (a trip to Vietnam, 2 music festivals), celebrated his birthday and our anniversary, went to a music festival solo and grew a relationship with his family and new friends. I even started going on dates! (Big one lol) I know he would be so proud of me.
As I enter the second year of his passing and a new year for myself, even though the last year was actually terrible but it’s been significant one. I learned a lot about myself, and I am changed. I am not the same person I was when we were together. He changed my life, but his passing changed me. I am so sad that he isn’t here to experience who I am today. It’s unfortunate that his passing has made me a better person and that he’s not here to get the benefits of it.
I know the road is rocky for a lot of us. But I hope that you all are able to find some joy in your life. One day at a time, one moment of joy at the a time, and eventually the grief gets a little smaller. It’s absolute robbery to be in the situation and I’m sorry this is what life has given us but you’re stronger than you know. We can do hard things ❤️

2024.05.31 17:37 Josnalder Halo ruined me.

I created this post to tell my experience with the Halo franchise. I am a gamer who has always enjoyed games like the old Call of Duty games, Farcry, Doom, Battlefield, Counter Strike, Goldeneye, among others.
I also like 3rd person shooter games, like: Spec Ops: The Line (A really good game)
At 31 years old I decided to give the Halo games a chance with the MCC. I never liked futuristic shooters/shooting aliens, so Halo was never in my priorities, big mistake.
I started with Halo CE Anniversary, I tried between the remastered graphics and the originals, I'm sticking with the originals. The remastering totally ruins the atmosphere of the first game. I've always been a purist and I like to evaluate things by imagining how they must have felt at the time they came out, so original graphics for me.
I went to Halo 2 with remastered graphics and in this game it is more in line with what they wanted to convey, I still stick with the original graphics.
Then I moved on to Halo 3 and Jesus Christ, what a wonderful game. I'm totally in love with this one, I still can't decide which is my favorite, Halo CE or Halo 3, but it's between them. This game doesn't need an anniversary version, but I wouldn't mind seeing one either.
Then I played the rest of the games, I haven't played Halo Infinity yet, I'm waiting for it to drop in price.
Things I like about the Halo universe:
Halo CE: Pillar of Autumn, the tutorial mission that starts it all, the soundtrack is excellent and the game feels like another shooter from that era, but there is some freedom in the battle even in those corridors of the ship. I still can't figure out what it is.
Halo CE: Halo, in the words of the Prophet of Regret: when I saw the Halo for the first time I was Blinded, Paralyzed, Dumbstruck... In this mission I discovered what that feeling of freedom in battle was, seeing the Covenant act depending on how they develops the battle, knowing that each weapon has a function and an enemy for which it is perfect, in this mission I realized how epic it is to fight in the Halo games. This mission is beautiful all around and the epic soundtrack makes it even more iconic.
Halo CE: The Silent Cartographer everything in this mission is epic.
Halo CE: 343: Guilty Spark, I can't find words to describe how amazing this mission is. My favorite of all.
Halo 2: The intro in he first mission, the Master Chief missions, gravemind.
Halo 3: I like this whole game, every mission, every objective, every environment, this game really feels magical. The different forms of the flood are atrocious at the Cortana level. If they want to bring them back in the future, that artistic level is a good start.
The Epilogue in this game is the most beautiful thing I have seen so far in a work of fiction. I can only imagine how meaningful it was for many to see that ending, when they were still children/young people.
Halo ODST: All the rookie sequences and walking the streets of New Mombasa with nostalgic music in the background.
Halo Reach: This game feels like a movie and I didn't really miss the master chief while completing it.
Halo 4: Cortana.
Seriously though, the beginning was great, starting in the Forward Unto Dawn, the Cortana/Master Chief relationship, the Composer, the epilogue. I didn't like the art change on the Covenant and I hated the fights with the Forreruners.
Halo 5: All the missions with the blue team feel solid, I like The Master Chief in this game and the different environments, I like the gameplay too. The rest was atrocious.
I say Halo has ruined me because I can't play another Shooter without getting bored. I tried Farcry 6/5 and many shooters that I played frequently and now I get bored easily in the shootouts, many are still good games for me, but they have really become boring in the gameplay.
The other reason Halo ruined me is that I always like to play on the highest difficulty. I'm slowly completing the MCC on Legendary and this makes the rest of Shooters feel too easy. Halo 2 on legendary is very enjoyable, which I can no longer say about other shooting games, because now I can only describe them as boring.
My advice to those like me who have not tried the Halo games so far is to be careful, once you get in there is no turning back.

2024.05.31 16:30 SDKorriban Hopium Warriors: Origins

TL;DR - I'm excited and loving what I'm seeing from the trailer.
This would probably be so much nicer in video format but I don't have a YouTube channel : )^
Hello! I'm sure most of you by now have seen the new trailer of DW Origins from Playstation's State of Play. From different social media platforms like Reddit, Tiktok, and YouTube the DW fandoms responses have ranged from disappointed it's not a return to originals, to hesitant optimism, to "WE'RE SO BACK RAHHHHH". Time to give you my totally not asked for Thoughts!
What are my credentials to offer such an objective truth opinion? Well I'm glad you asked.
Anyways time for a brief trailer breakdown.

WHAT I SAW

  • So first thing to note s the CAW taking the frontrunner position. I think this is a really cool addition. Would I like to play as other officers? Sure, but I would prefer them prioritize the story over making everyone included.
  • A focus on the Yellow Turbans and a glimpse of Lu Bu. What I think this could potentially mean is that we could have a game focusing on the Yellow Turban Rebellion & the Alliance Against Dong Zhuo as the main conflicts. Going off the name origins it seems like this story could be setting the foundation for sequel games focusing on the campaigns leading up to Chi Bi, the Rise of Jin, so on so forth. It could also be that's just what they have ready to show as well!
  • Character Designs - They kept DW9's character design and art direction and thank goodness. DW9 for all it did wrong nailed two things better than any other DW game. The music, which was phenomenal. And the character designs. Hands down best in the warriors series. It looks like they've also polished the models for generics and peons which I'm stoked for!
  • A polishing of DW9's massive setpieces and huge armies. Controversial take, but I HOPE they do not get rid of the large battlefields and the open world. The last thing I want is a DW8 clone or a DW7 clone for as much as I love that one. What I want is for them to continue to push the genre, try new things and learn from mistakes. The open world was gorgeous, the cities were beautiful the major mistake was nothing was alive. The skirmishes had no point, the wilderness was empty, and major events had no real effect. I want them to further polish what they did good and bring the REST of the open world to par. Give us meaningful side missions! Axe the worthless npc sidequests! Make everything the player does be worth their time and have incentive. Make them do stuff because they want to not because they have to.
  • DW9's Combat System but improved. Hell yeah, I loved it. If they make it better it will probably be my fav playing game in the series. It is perfect for the direction it's heading.

THINGS I WANT

  • Story, story story. I want every unique officer included to mean something, to have an impact and not be 1 dimensional. I want there to be filler missions or little things to break tension and develop characters more. And PLEASE better in game cutscenes. DW9's were hilariously bad. The only DW game to make me gaf about the story was 7, and I want to feel like that again for this.
  • New mechanics. Push boundaries! Innovate!
  • Get rid of the grappling hook. Omg did that one thing make nearly every mechanic useless. Oh did my siege ramp die? Shucks anyways lemme leap this wall.
  • Quality over quantity of officers. If they condense the story over multiple titles or dlcs, perfect let each era's roster mean something.
  • Expand the Turbans and their effect later on. They didn't just disappear. Officers like Zhuo Cang, Liao Hua, Bian Xi, etc should have their attitudes reflect being a Yellow Turban.
  • A good Empires. For as barebones as Dw9E is, many people agree it's surprisingly fun if you make your own fun. Take what you learned and improve on it! If I can't play as officers in the main game, that means Empires is more important than ever before.

IN SUMMARY

I'm very excited!

2024.05.31 15:02 doublej08 34 [M4F] Virginia/online looking for a friend, gaming buddy, maybe relationship

If I haven’t bored you already and are still interested message me and see where things go.

Title.
I've been googling for an hour now and can't find anything up to date. Synapse only allows -5/+5dB and a lot of people's custom EQs go above that (+8 for example). Not sure what to do here. I honestly know nothing about good audio and would like to set up an EQ that sounds the most "accurate", if that's even a thing. Anything that will be good for a mix of gaming, movies and music.
The settings in the pic are from a highly upvoted reddit post, though that was the older version of the headset and I can't get the exact dB values as described in the post (like +8 on 16kHz).

2024.05.31 05:50 Storms_Wrath The Human Artificial Hivemind Part 519: A State Of War

First Previous Wiki
Penny stared as her power flowed towards Ezeonwha far too slowly. She could see Fate looming large over it all, so the first thing Penny did was try to push more psychic energy in the way. To push it so that Ezeonwha moved faster. A mental attack hit him, snaring his mind in a way that had already prevented her from moving him out of the way before she could even displace him. The words wouldn't make it in time, and the suppression around Ezeonwha was incredibly strong.
One of the wounds had odd shrapnel in it, preventing her conceptual energy from flowing into him. The metal felt just like the armor Yasihaut had worn to survive contact with Penny last time.
Ezeonwha was incredibly injured, but she could still save him. She had to. She shoved and heaved her conceptual energy, tossing all of reality like a carpet. It rolled forward and out, passing over Ezeonwha...
And it bounced off the shrapnel, dissipating in millions of ways that made his eyes widen just slightly before closing. The mental attack was still coming. She moved to block it but was blasted by a barrage of thousands more from an Elder far above even Yasihaut's weight class. The blows weren't killing blows to Penny, but they managed to damage Ezeonwha even more, despite the mark of her conceptual power, which had dissipated so far. A thin coating of the power blocking metal shined on Ezeonwha's spine, which Penny realized was why she had missed him in the first place. Someone had put it there to set this all up.
Penny refused to let it end there, though. "Displace," she growled. The attack almost entirely vanished, moving just behind her before looping back around to smash into her. Mental defenses depended somewhat on mental strength and focus. Penny's focus normally was like iron. Now, it was steel.
She tossed the threads again, attempting to move everything that wasn't Ezeonwha away. Penny invested herself into the attack directly. Bursts of color and light flared around them, sputtering and flickering, the flames of a fire she was trying to restart. The area twisted inward and downward to a lower concentration of space with more material of some kind inside it. She rang reality like a bell, sending peals of gravitational waves and kinetic energy bursting in spurts back into normal reality. They involved sound and heat flashing around as well, which she ignored.
Penny felt the edge of speeding space, but didn't enter it. She sucked energy from all that she could, sending the threads over to attempt to melt the chunks of material inside Ezeonwha.
Penny felt some of the fragments shift and start to break down, but the power requirements were exponential. She almost exhausted her conceptual energy, and she drained the connection she'd built to draw energy entirely. Its capacity now overstretched, it bulged and popped, sending a final flood of power that Penny directed at the fragments. One of the largest ones vanished entirely, but she was almost out. She did not give up, though.
Penny pushed on Ezeonwha himself, manipulating Cardinality to include all that was him and nothing that wasn't. His body flickered, glowing with her energy before the power dimmed. The last of her conceptual energy she'd stored surged into the darkness, unable to light it back before it was smothered. A distinct acidic smell filled the air, and the fumes of the metal damaged her lungs.
But more was still inside, and she didn't know what to do. She perused her memories, trying to find a way. Now, even more strongly, she sensed both Death and Fate's presence. They were an oppressive duo, and she'd already spent her power to make the impossible possible. But there were too many impossible steps for her to push through with her level of energy.
Even the trickle of energy from the Liberator title was lessening; its power strained under the dampening field the gangs had set up to weaken her more. She struggled against the bonds of reality, but they were too strong for her to break again with her energy so depleted. And she tried again, with the last sputters of energy she could safely spend without endangering her own ability to survive the attacks flying at her from so many directions.
Somewhere, the skyscraper was still falling, and thousands of Sprilnav were still battling. She tried to grab the energy of Death in the air, and twist it to mean the 'death' of the metal inside Ezeonwha. She somehow managed to succeed, but the metal anchored him against even that. She wasn't strong enough. She wasn't able to use enough of the energy to make a difference.
Penny reached forward, grabbing at the psychic energy floating free in the air. She bludgeoned the psychic attacks with it. Her danger sense flashed. A thin laser, bright green, emerged from a gun on the ground from a shattered window. It was illuminated brightly in the ash and the smoke rising from the battlefield. An Elder, one who she didn't quite remember, was the one who had fired that gun.
Beyond that, there was no time to think. Lasers were light, and light was the fastest. Even her empowered thoughts, brimming with psychic energy to replace the slower speed of electricity in these crucial moments, could not contend with the ultimate king of kings: lightspeed. Not with the metal here, and not with the waves of suppression washing over her from so many sources.
Her mind contacted Ezeonwha's at the last moment.
-I caused this to happen to you.
The fragment was mournful. It was shockingly human, too. The fear of death, the sadness that he would not be there for her, and that she would cause death because of him. It was a harrowing experience, feeling it as his mind fell apart, and all that made him what he was began to fade, becoming something that was different, a thing that wasn't a person.
The experience was deeply scarring, and it made her bow her head with shock, even as the laser blew through Exile, taking off her arm with its passage.
Ezeonwha's body was blasted into a brutal paste around the edges of the impacting lasers. It caked her entire body, since her defenses registered it was friendly material. And that was the worst part of it. It wasn't just anyone. It was Ezeonwha who had just died, and he'd died a meaningless death, with all of her power being insufficient to save him.
The death in the mindscape was similar. She had never managed to experience a death like this in such an intimate fashion. But due to the connection she'd made to him, she saw it all. She saw as the mental attack from a rapidly retreating Elder who was about to die terribly hit Ezeonwha in the side. It hit his mental avatar and his mind manifestation at the same time. The avatar was struck in the head, while his mind's defenses were pierced and shattered as the attack progressed. Her psychic energy's outer vanguard was caught as well and shattered before any saving could be done.
The attack reached Ezeonwha's soul and shattered it, melting a portion and detonating another inner portion. The shining orb cracked in multiple ways. The inner cracks were dimensional in spatial natures. Another crack propagated across time, specifically the future, meaning that Ezeonwha would remain dead no matter what she did. This was what Fate had ensured for some unknown reason. Death himself touched Ezeonwha here, along with many other Sprilnav dying at the same moment.
And then there was another direction, which could not be properly described, but its effects were a propagation of black marks and embrittlement across the soul, reducing all he was to a bountiful explosion of cracks. Tiny deformations and implosions erupted thick gouts of psychic and conceptual energy in tiny steamy hisses, like the valves of an engine. There was more psychic energy in him being expelled at this moment than she'd ever seen in him, but that was because this wasn't just his mind but his body and soul being destroyed. Penny knew without knowing that he was already dead, and she was being allowed to see what death really meant for him.
She did not wonder about who had made this possible. The only thing that mattered now was him. To witness his death, which she had failed to avert. To grieve when the time came. And to continue watching him, before the moment stretched down and back into true time once again. The speck of conceptual energy that was disappearing had a mark of Time upon it now, and it was running out.
A thin bubble of psychic energy expanded, destroying the foundations of his sentience and memories before taking out his subconscious and all else that remained. Thousands of years of memories fell in upon themselves, collapsing as their integrity went from tough to brittle in an instant. They shattered like thin shale, splintered like wood, and fell like piles of ash and dust in the wind. Ezeonwha's soul had a tiny flash of light inside it, which traveled straight down into the ground. Though the speed of the movement was beyond quantification, it was faster than that of light. Somehow, she was able to see and know that.
Penny watched the gouts of psychic energy and rock erupt from his position, turning into an explosion like thousands of others blooming in the mindscape.
For five seconds, she stared, slowly lifting her gloved hands to stare at the remaining gore. Pieces of her friend drifted down in a fine mist all around her. Some Sprilnav took a few potshots at her, but the bullets and lasers were blocked by Exile as he spread out across her body.
For three seconds, she was free of all feelings. She forgot her rage, her hatred, and her grudges. Yasihaut's name drifted into the background and faded. Tiglath and Ikirshi did the same, though the latter was more remembered for the distinctly horrific crimes he'd perpetuated directly in view of her.
Instincts that felt ancient, but weren't hers, welled up inside her, driven by the contact with Exile. She sniffed the air. It was not a normal action, and it was a deeper, more attuned thing than ever before. She glared at the swiftly retreating form of Fate, and at the slow descent of Death's consciousness. She attuned with the world around her, understanding that death was a part of life.
And then Penny rebelled. Her grief, budding from disbelief, ignited with all the force of a nuclear bomb. From her mouth, a sound emerged. It was more than the word could describe. It was thick but not loud. Perhaps a groan, or a cry, or a sob. It permeated the shield, appearing in the air at speeds faster than sounds could travel without generating shockwaves. Her lament was a single note for a single moment. Two for the second moment, four for the third. And then Penny's mouth closed.
Her priorities began to waver and realign. She fell into her mind, feeling the weight of the moment crashing onto her shoulders.
"What do I do?" she asked Nilnacrawla, looking him in the eyes.
"You already know."
"I do. But the Judgment-"
"If you do not do it now, you will lash out later, at a worse moment. Likely when Yasihaut uses it as an insult. The Judgment is in two days, Penny. Make your choice."
Penny made it. A thick laser smashed into her face, meant to kill her. Exile batted it away with a tentacle that grew oddly reflective. Penny saw that without using her eyes. Conceptual energy burned hot and thick on her body and in her mind.
"Displace," Penny said. The word carried more weight than usual. Right now, it destroyed hundreds of thousands of guns and turrets. Personal shields the gangs used disappeared and moved to a cargo hold on the Vaquah for safekeeping. They would be sold for profit later and for use by the freed Sprilnav.
She displaced the shackles of all kinds on the freed Sprilnav with her next word. Then, with the third, she brought every Elder in the gangs she could reach into the 70th layer of the Underground, where none of the Guides or even Correctors had dared to tread in millions of years.
She destroyed all the cameras and then all the implants. She and around five hundred Elders stood on the side of a fallen skyscraper. The entire area was pitch black, but she didn't care about that. She could see them just fine with psychic energy. And that was because she was keeping her own threads contained so she wouldn't slip and slaughter them. Nilnacrawla sensed the direction her mind was heading, but he did not stop her. Even Cardi pulled back from her consciousness as Penny's mind turned to retribution.
Kashaunta had taught her the value of a good threat and how to make examples. Perhaps this was another step on the path to becoming a carbon copy of the Elder. But now, Penny understood why so many of them just were evil bastards. Evil or the subsets of it like wanton murder and slaughter for any slight, were so easy. This was how it started, and if she wasn't careful, it would be how it ended.
Perhaps it was the speeding space entity she'd consumed that wanted to rip out all their throats. But that answer was the easy one, which rarely meant the correct one.
"I will ask a question," Penny said. Her voice trembled with rage.
"Oh please. Are you gonna cry because we got your little-"
Penny snapped her fingers, and the Elder fell apart, his bones neatly removed. She reached forward, and a psychic hand extended to grab his limp body and pull his head off it. She tossed the pieces to the side.
"Which gang is responsible for this?"
She would have invaded their minds, but that would involve the risk of special attack vectors she was poorly suited to defending.
"We'll die-" Another began before she cut him off.
"You will die if you don't tell me, very painfully. If you do tell me, you'll survive because that gang's influence will be excised, like pus from an infected wound," Penny said. Her words vibrated with malice and strength she hadn't truly brought to bear in years. Every cell in her body yearned for violence and bayed for blood. She wanted to exact a ruinous retribution a thousandfold upon the Elders. Not just for Ezeonwha but for the sin and utter stain of slavery they continued to maintain.
"You don't have the balls."
"I suppose not yet," Penny agreed. "Displace."
All of the Elder's body, except for one very specific area, disappeared. The area in question floated up to the view of each of the Elders she had here, still dripping with blood. "I give you my word, that if you give up the backers who authorized-"
"It was the Syndicate of the Nine," a meek Elder said. Penny smiled warmly. "Thank you. I will have Kashaunta pay you handsomely for this. As for the rest of you... you will be sorted out in Kashaunta's prisons. The real ones, not the ones here you can just bail your way out of by complaining a little. I really tried to do this the easy way, but it seems you all don't listen to anything other than force."
Penny made the Elders disappear. She knew she hadn't grabbed the ones on the battlefield with the conceptual power blocking armor. But that was fine. She would come for those later.
She disposed of the disgusting and gruesome object beside her, leaving the one Elder who'd spoken up to frown. "I'm going to need protection."
"I'll get it for you."
It was another perk of the Pact of Blades. Handling these Elders was nothing to Kashaunta. Perhaps the highest orders of the Syndicate would turn some heads. But not these ones, who were the grunts. And that was another part. Truthfully, the ones at fault weren't the grunts, but she'd needed fear to get her point across. Entering mental combat down here was risky, but less so than in the giant war erupting on the surface. And since she'd removed the cameras and similar devices, there would be an easier time dealing with the fallout from this.
Penny cleaned herself, gathered her psychic energy, and let the rage flow. The Elder had already been sent to Kashaunta, and a note explaining the situation was attached. Nilnacrawla made Penny aware of a way she could turn the chaos to her advantage while still helping to serve her Liberator title. She needed more conceptual power.
Her failure had cost Ezeonwha his life.
Her mind turned to the gangs, and she located the first slave camp. It was lightly defended, with only a few shields and mental equivalents surrounding it. She went through the guards and broke the shackles of the slaves. Soon, she had enough conceptual energy to send them to the Vaquah, so that was what she did. Her title grew just slightly, and she smiled a bloody grin.
She brought Liberation to a million slaves in ten minutes. Slave camps fell like dominoes to her might, mustered to its maximum efficiency. Penny found herself before a city teeming with over fifty million slaves and hundreds of Elders, along with about a million soldiers to defend it. Its blue and white walls were made of thick alloy, which glowed with psychic energy. Five banners on flagpoles atop the tallest buildings bore the symbol of the Syndicate of the Nine on black cloth. The light of the city illuminated the entire cavern, which was carved out in great blocks that were clearly artificial.
The buildings were all multi-floored and very large, with slave holding pens visible through the windows they rarely sported. Small grey clouds hovered over the city, raining lightly through the lowest city shield.
Inactive turrets and tanks dotted the walls, with flying vehicles, missile sites, laser turrets, and other defenses also in place. It was a sea of grey and blue barrels, some glowing with energy or displays that were inactive. Penny scanned the defenses, which would have repelled any normal army. Robotic androids and drones patrolled its 'sky' and its walls, electrified and deadly to those who they kept captive.
But she was no army. She was better in every way and far more deadly than any simple army could ever home to be. The clouds over the city grew.
"Manipulation through Determination," Penny began. "Set of wires running to power sources above structures. All to zero."
Her conceptual power snaked out, destroying every one of the major defenses the city had except the shields. None of them appeared to be damaged, but nothing mounted on the walls or buildings of the city would fire anymore. The toll was not insignificant, but Penny weathered it easily. Penny had especially targeted the cameras and implants inside the area, determined to keep them in the dark about her presence.
Perhaps footage of this would get out, but Penny bet not. She was meticulous, spreading her power around several times in different areas to ensure Cardinality's range would not come back to bite her.
The shields remained, since those were in the ground. She couldn't reach those with her psychic or conceptual power anyway, but she had another way to get to them. And with so many slaves trapped in the city, the method revealed itself to her through the voices in her mind, baying for blood and freedom.
Penny's eyes burned with anger, hatred, and fury at the gang's existence mustered by the conceptual energy itself in her body. For the first time, her conceptual energy spoke to her in a way she could understand. It was a feeling, not any sentence or words, impossible for a normal mind to comprehend. Her sanity withstood the mental assault, a lighthouse against the waves.
She knew what she had to do. Penny let out a piercing scream, accelerating rapidly across the cavern. The shields flared with light, as did she, gathering her psychic energy around her fists and forming a massive blade infused with her raw fury and grief at Ezeonwha's death. And beyond that, she filled it with the power of Liberation.
She could sense the very souls of the slaves calling out for freedom. They needed her like Ezeonwha had needed her. She would not fail again. She had failed him, and she'd failed herself, but she would not fail them.
Penny's speed at impact was beyond supersonic. Cardi supplied a number. Mach 1500.
Penny's impact laid waste to the the shield, and the thirty behind it. The shockwaves washed over the thick rock, breaking it brutally before dissipating in the outer shield keeping the cavern intact. The city's outer power grid collapsed. Fusion reactors blew, venting their plasma out of their casings to rapidly cool in the atmosphere of the Underground, which was no longer being serviced by the air purifiers.
An entire ring of the walls went dark. Penny moved in, bearing clouds of fog that shrouded the entire city. Using Cardinality, she set the number of chains and shackles in the city to zero. 50 million freed Sprilnav looked into the air for the first time of their lifetimes, bearing witness to the triumph of Liberation.
A massive construct attacked her in the mindscape, and she tore it down, shredding its legs to send it toppling to the ground. More of them came, only to be destroyed. Elders fled from her power, while slave masters were killed by their freed prisoners or sent hurtling back into the prisons of Justicar. The fires of rebellion flared across the city, the streets running red with the blood of the slavers. Electric defenses failed to respond to the slavers' desperation, as did the guns attached to the identification network to prevent stealing.
Penny had destroyed those, too, in her initial attack. She felt it in her conceptual energy as slavers died, some mounted on the bayonets of their own guns. Others buried beneath tides of furious claws, old and young.
Facilities caught fire. Penny felt the drones firing on her. Thick wings of psychic energy swatted them from the air, starting more fires. An Elder rushed forward to stab her with a barbed blade. Penny spun to avoid it, kicking the Elder in the side. He slammed against a wall, electric spikes impaling him, though their payload wasn't delivered.
When he fell from the spikes, gasping for air and bleeding from his wounds, he was met with over ten thousand furious freed Sprilnav. Penny heard him scream five times, and then he went silent. Blood dripped from her feet every time she stepped. Far above, a slaver was thrown through a window, slamming beside her in an eruption of gore that Penny deflected.
Penny ripped open the doors hiding the wealth of the city, bars of highly controlled energy and several antimatter containment capsules. The treasury was a place of immense wealth, though most of it was in energy hidden behind thick shields. Penny left the shields in place since she could get rid of them later.
Lasers and bullets smashed into her. An Elder's sword hit her armor. Penny turned her head. The very motion smashed the Elder to the ground, driving her deep into the stone. Penny reached out, grabbing her by the neck.
The Elder spat in her face. Penny blocked the spittle, using a bit of psychic power to splash it back on the Elder's neck and eyes.
"Displace."
Elders across the city disappeared, now inside Kashaunta's prisons. The Elder in front of her remained since there was a thin conceptual energy barrier over the city. Penny leaped into the sky, hitting it feet first and ripping it apart with her bare hands. The field fell, and Penny sent the rest of the Elders to Kashaunta's prisons. She wanted to kill them, but so close to the Judgment, a massacre of Elders would serve her poorly. It was the only reason they survived.
Penny sent the wealth of the city to Kashaunta as well, except for the antimatter, which she sent to be added to her account based on its worth in credits. She would be spending more money in the coming days if nothing went wrong.
50 million freed Sprilnav heard her voice when she spoke.
"I am Penny Balica, the Liberator! You are free! Feast and celebrate!"
Happiness pierced the rage. It was the happiness of her conceptual power. Though it was only a balm to Ezeonwha's loss, Penny still welcomed it. Though she could not smile, she still created enough food and water for all of them to survive. She reinforced the rock outside the city, distributed new weapons for the freed Sprilnav, and told them to wait.
Using her now-full power once more, she brought diplomats from Kashaunta, as well as several legions of defending soldiers with all their equipment to protect them from the gangs. They set up in the areas outside the city, where music was playing and large parties were starting. Millions of people celebrated in her name, feeding her a sizable amount of conceptual power and making her feel like she'd accomplished something.
It was just a shame that Penny had taken this long to finally do something. She'd let the Judgment loom over her, paralyzing her in fear. It had kept her from gaining enough power to save her friend. Ezeonwha had paid the ultimate price for it.
It would not atone for him. Nothing would. Penny would remember him for the rest of her life. If she'd been more powerful, she could have destroyed the fragments, and really saved him. She knew it in her heart and soul. All she could do now was hope he'd reached the afterlife, and was happy wherever he was.
She took in the number of Sprilnav in the city with Cardinality. For another hour, she ferried additional personnel into it, repairing the infrastructure and defenses so those within would be safe. She tore down the slave pens, erecting a few thousand copies of skyscrapers above and below ground to serve as housing.
The city was massive, easily rivaling all but the largest human cities on Earth. It was much more dense in its footprint, requiring a lot more verticality to make it work. She added more space, as well as bunkers. The remaining soldiers she hadn't managed to get rid of who had survived were also being marched away by Kashaunta's soldiers. Penny didn't care what happened to them afterward.
Her focus was on the freed slaves and how she could help them with the limited time she had left. She couldn't keep doing this as quickly, with the Judgment on the horizon. She'd need time to make arguments and study her position. She was sure that things would change, but she didn't regret what she'd done at all.
As the Liberator, taking a stronger position against slavery was what she should have done all along. There were more cities to attack, but she needed to rest before moving on. If she did things too fast, she might miss things she normally wouldn't. Already, she needed to consolidate her power to make the future war easier.
The huge population of Sprilnav in the city meant she couldn't just teleport them out and destroy what remained. She could not yet move that many Sprilnav and the Vaquah wasn't totally safe yet. There was still more work to be done. And beyond that, she still felt rage at Ezeonwha's death. The Elders who'd caused it needed to be punished. And when she caught up to them...
She sighed.
You did well, Penny, Nilnacrawla said.
She focused on him in the mindscape. He bore an expression that bordered on fatigue. It was mixed with sadness.
I'm sorry that my people would do something like this, he said.
It's not something you need to apologize for.
I know, but... I feel like I should. I know you cared for Ezeonwha, and I wish... I don't know. I wanted to do more, but I don't have any more power than you do.
I'm still worried about the future, she said. I don't know how to deal with the Judgment with this happening at the same time.
I can provide you energy so you don't need to sleep. I'll need to sleep more in exchange, though, Nilnacrawla offered.
Thank you. Couldn't you have done this before?
Not without the close link we have now. Over time, as we've grown to understand each other, things like this have become easier. Though I would suggest that you get Kashaunta's help with this. If you make an official declaration of war, with her backing, you'll look more in control. You'll be respected even more by offering it versus just engaging in a war campaign anyway.
Why? she asked.
Our society relies heavily on reputation and perceived law. Elders could have gone around it in the past, but breaking the social taboos is an impetus for others to attack or cut contact so they can prevent either negative association or an Elder who does not care for conventions from getting too powerful. The treaties keep the wider Sprilnav realms from total civil war, which would benefit some Elders but comes with too much long-term risk. The powers that be cannot stomach it. So, playing by their rules, even in this limited fashion, will make you more appealing. And don't believe the High Judges represent fairness. They might be a tangential wing of justice, but their primary aim will stray closer to upholding the views of the elite. Justicar, Kashaunta, and the Progenitors all qualify.
Shouldn't we wait until the end of the trial, then?
No. We will establish the momentum in your favor this way from the start. Combined with the reveal of the Pact of Blades with Kashaunta, this will help to keep the favor with you. They will disregard Yasihaut's opening arguments more, which will also lessen the impact of her later ones. She will look progressively more desperate if your lawyer frames this, as he likely will know how. But if you save the large reveals for the end, it shows you have a lack of confidence, and that will affect how the Elders see you. You want to look confident you can win because if you aren't confident, then you're a slave to stronger powers. If you appear independent, they will believe they can still benefit from you later on in case you break from Kashaunta.
Wouldn't the Pact of Blades prevent this?
Not if she dies.
Ah. Thank you, Nilnacrawla.
No problem, he said, retreating back into the recesses of her mind. Penny looked at Cardi.
The younger copy of her body stood, looking her over.
"You'll get stronger over time."
"What?"
"The power of Cardinality, as it stands, is not fully wielded by you. I am making adjustments, but they are slow."
"Do you think I could have saved him?"
"Not unless you'd already been by his side. But looking over him like a mother hen would have likely sealed his fate for the Judgment, when you disappeared. Do you wish to discuss what happened?"
Penny normally wouldn't. She didn't feel very good. But Cardi didn't talk very often. The fact that the concept entity was interested in doing so now when Penny had used so much conceptual power didn't escape her notice. Something was going on, for sure. Death and Fate had showed up. She got the feeling this wasn't about Ezeonwha but about how she felt about him.
That made her feel bad, too. Ezeonwha deserved better, even in death, than people only caring about him because she did. But that was what he was being reduced to. It was disrespectful and infuriating. Kashaunta would give out much the same, she knew.
Cardi bowed her head. "I am sorry."
"For what?"
"All of this. My presence making this happen, and the lack of my power's ability to save him."
"It was my failure," Penny said. "And my cross to bear. My carelessness killed my friend, because I treated this world and the people in it like a game."
"You did what you knew how to do. We all make mistakes."
"This isn't just another mistake, though."
"That is true. So the question is, what are you going to do about it?"
Cardi stepped forward, staring into Penny's eyes. "You aren't just going to let this stand, are you?"
"No," Penny growled. "I'm going to war. When I find out who did this and who ordered it done, I'm killing them. Maybe then, Ezeonwha's soul will forgive me."
She left her section of the mindscape. Conceptual power flared.
"Displace."
She appeared in a room with several Elders in it. She stood in front of Kashaunta. The Elder put away the sword she'd drawn, sliding it into its sheath with a barely perceptible sound. Penny looked her in the eye.
"I need you to write and deliver an official declaration of war to the Syndicate of the Nine. They killed my friend, and no Judgment will save them now."

2024.05.30 19:33 JPScout DP Review

DP Review
https://preview.redd.it/z3s63s65nl3d1.png?width=2418&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab57c16ff41aa1bac40aeca648062d39c9ac57ce
  • Main Characters: Good
    • Ash - I think this is pretty much where Ash’s character peaked in almost every regard. His early personality is prominent but his growth and maturity from past journeys still shine through. The way he stands up for himself, his Pokemon, and what he believes in through thick and thin is what makes him so fun to watch in DP cause this is where he faced one of his biggest challenges as a trainer. And in terms of battles, this is the most strategic and clever he’s ever been and it’s a blast to watch. He has amazing companions, amazing rivals, and amazing Pokemon, there’s just so much DP does right with Ash’s character and everything revolving around Ash’s character.
      • Pikachu: As usual, Pikachu gets a lot of good moments, good battles, and more. I don’t think DP does anything offensive in how it uses him. I loved the bond between Ash’s Pikachu and Dawn’s Piplup, how many different events it participated in outside of just gym battles, and it gets its badass memorable moments throughout.
      • Staraptor: It’s tough to follow up Swellow but I think Staraptor managed to do an okay job of being Ash’s bird. It has some cool battles and memorable strategies, but I wish it was more memorable outside of just battles. It is the Pokemon that gets Ash his first win against Paul so there’s that.
      • Torterra: Deserved better. I found it really quite enjoyable as a Turtwig and I like that evolving into a Grottle meant that Ash and it had to rethink how to battle since it became a lot slower. It’s a nice twist on the typical evolution which would usually be an automatic improvement. After that though, it’s just not given enough wins, development, or anything really despite having some good potential. Feels like a Pokemon that very easily could’ve been really good and memorable but due to poor handling became memorable for the wrong reasons.
      • Buizel: Now he is one of my favorite Gen IV Pokemon so I might be biased, but I love the dude. As one half of the infamous DP Trade, it’s easily the better half. I really liked how much of a battler it was even prior to being in Ash’s team and how even though it didn’t listen to Dawn it did help her understand battling more. With Ash, I really liked how whatever it learned under Dawn was still used with Ash, its gym battle against Crasher Wake, and just how fun its battles are facing a wide variety of opponents. Very cool Pokemon.
      • Infernape: Easy Top 5 Ash Pokemon. Amazing development in overcoming trauma and mastering Blaze and it was genius to have it be both Paul’s and Ash’s Pokemon. Its battles are all memorable too and its Blaze scene during Ash vs Paul is a Top 10 anipoke moment. I do know that some people think it stole Screentime away from the other DP Pokemon but I really don’t care if the product we got was this good. Plus I never felt like the other DP Pokemon didn’t have their fair share of memorable moments.
      • Gliscor: After Infernape, I think this Pokemon has the best development on Ash’s Sinnoh team. It went from scared, unable to fly, and weak to competent, agile, and strong with some solid training and development. Also, it’s temporary goodbye to becoming better was a nice touch.
      • Gible: It’s captured really late but I think they do a good job with trying to master Draco Meteor and it just randomly biting was funny and cute. Definitely could’ve been much better, but with how many episodes they have left I think the way it turned out was fine.
    • Dawn - Dawn is probably the single most well-balanced companion in the entire anime. There are some qualities where other companions do better, but overall, Dawn gets almost every category you can judge a character by just right. With Dawn, you get a decent past, solid character flaws, good goal progression, good character development, an amazing rival, the best Pokemon team for a Pokegirl, and a terrific personality. I don’t like how she feels like the same person by the end of the series, how unrealistic it is for her to defeat May, her Ambipom, and I honestly think they could’ve given her a better reason to stay in Sinnoh instead of traveling with Ash more. But still, they’re just minor issues for an otherwise excellent companion.
      • Piplup: The perfect companion Pokemon by a long shot. There’s just so much to love about it from its sassy personality, how cute it is, its bond with Dawn, and its numerous comedic moments. All that and it’s still insanely capable in Contests. Don’t know what else you could want from a Pokemon. Just like Dawn, it hits almost every category you can judge a Pokemon by just right.
      • Buneary: It’s cute, pretty good at Contests, and has a fun little crush on Pikachu. They maybe could’ve done a bit more with her outside of what I just mentioned, but she’s still an entertaining Pokemon nonetheless.
      • Mamoswine: I like how much it stands out from the rest of Dawn’s team in just being a strong powerhouse in a group of small cutesy Pokemon. I especially love its development in how it had to learn to trust Dawn because its anger issues and disobedience tended to ruin her chances of coming out on top. It’s a good arc even if the pacing could’ve been a tad bit better, but the outcome is incredibly satisfying. Definitely one of my favorite Dawn Pokemon.
      • Ambipom: It could’ve been just as good as Buizel but everything is thrown out the door with its release.
      • Cyndaquil: Not bad, not amazing, just really okay. I like how they gave Dawn Cyndaquil considering how her style is usually water or ice-related. Its overall interest and eagerness to do Contests was cute to see and I really liked how capable it actually ended up being especially since it’s a newly hatched Pokemon.
      • Togekiss: Even though it’s caught pretty late, it’s not that bad with a fun capture episode, some good training scenes, and pretty good use in Dawn’s contests. With it was caught a little bit earlier though so we could spend more time with it, but just like Ash’s late capture, they did a good job with the amount of episodes they had left.
    • Brock - Out of every series Brock was in, he feels the most unnecessary here but he’s also got the most development for his goal of switching from a Pokemon breeder, which let’s be honest went nowhere, to a Pokemon doctor. Even if it does happen kind of late, we get hints here and there about how he takes care of Pokemon. The goal switch feels perfect for him. Even if he is the weakest part of the trio here, I think they do an okay job of making his presence at least entertaining.
      • Croagunk: This thing was pretty funny yet still managed to be more than just a gag Pokemon. It’s got some fun and unique episodes her and there and some actually solid battles too. I liked how it had beef with Saturn’s Toxicroak as well. It just does a damn good job of being memorable.
      • Chansey: I think Brock getting a Pokemon commonly used by Nurses was a clever way to set up his future goal change. They don’t do a whole lot with this idea till the very end, but we do get some funny and cute moments from it. Pretty basic cute Pokemon but at least it’s not boring or insufferable.
      • Sudowoodo: At least there’s one Pokemon caught in AG that made a good transition to DP. Has some good battles here and there and I love how competent it’s become since being a Bonsly.
  • Side Characters: Great
    • Paul - The single best rival Ash has ever had. He’s everything Ash doesn’t like or want to be yet still just as good if not a better trainer than Ash. The show does a great job of showing how their rivalry affects both of them. Why winning and losing to the other is so important for each of them. I do prefer him later on when the show humanizes him through Reggie but even prior he was a perfect antagonistic force to Ash. And the inclusion of Ash taking in a Pokemon Paul released and training it to the point where it’s the one that beats Paul in the end is just genius. Paul and his entire rivalry with Ash is one of the anime’s greatest accomplishments writing-wise.
    • Zoey - She’s up there with some of my favorite friendly rivals in the entire anime. She’s a pretty cool character who makes her presence known outside of just “rival for Dawn” with frequent interactions with Nando, Ash, and his rivals. Love how she manages to be both helpful to others and a competitive force that makes her ideals known about how she feels about Contests. She’s kind of like an older sibling of sorts which I think is a nice way to go about a friendly rival and it works for Dawn’s character arc.
    • Barry - He’s a pretty fun secondary rival. On top of already being a great comedic character, I like that he’s still pretty competent battle-wise and manages to have fun chemistry with every character. They use him just the right amount too so he doesn’t come off too annoying. Barry’s just everything I could ask for from a side character.
    • Conway - I think other than Ash and Paul, Conway has one of the most distinct battling styles in the anime with how much thought and planning is put into his strategies. When he battles, his opponents have to think. Outside of the battlefield, he’s still pretty fun. Not as much as Barry, but still alright.
    • Nando - Sometimes all you need to be a fun character is a chill personality, a cool design, and a cool concept like doing both battles and contests. Love this guy and how much he challenges Zoey’s beliefs and how much of an enjoyable presence with every appearance.
    • Ursula - Other times all you need to be a fun character is just to be a professional hater. But I do think she balances out Dawn’s rivals from being too nice so there’s that. Also, it’s just really satisfying whenever Dawn does better than her.
    • Kenny - By far my least favorite rival in DP. He doesn’t have much that sets him apart from other Coordinators and his final appearance just leaves a sour taste. Wasn’t a fan when I first watched DP and my opinion hasn’t really changed on rewatch.
    • Reggie - His inclusion into the story humanizes Paul so well in actually understanding why Paul is the way he is. Outside of that he was a good aid for Ash in training and developing his Pokemon and strategies. Pretty good side character.
    • Cynthia - The best-written Champion in a single series by a long shot. Her involvement in the story is just the right amount. The presence and aura they gave her in DP perfectly illustrate just how skilled and revered a Pokemon Champion is whilst also showing how far trainers who want to be a champion have to go. Even when she’s not battling it’s apparent how much knowledge she has.
    • Hunter J - She’s such a cool, competent villain. Love how her appearances were sprinkled out and how even if she kind of feels a bit random early on, they make use of her later on in the series with her involvement in Team Galactic.
    • Cyrus - He’s not as cool as Hunter J and just fine by Pokemon Villain standards. Definitely could’ve benefited from more appearances before the main villain arc.
    • Lyra and Khoury - Just gonna group them since they join the group and leave the group at the same point. They’re an enjoyable presence for the episodes they’re in and were a nice change of pace from the norm which was pretty needed in their season of DP.
  • Plot: Good
    • SEASON 1 - I think this is the single best first season of any series in the entire anime. Like it is just packed with good content and does a great job of introducing us to so many characters and rivals. The best part is that we will constantly be seeing them throughout and the anime does a good job of utilizing every appearance to make an impact on either Ash or Dawn. The gym battles were great, the contests were great too and we get a good balance of both here without ever feeling like we’re not getting enough of one or getting too much of one. Brock gets to take care of an egg and it hatches so yeah he’s got that I guess. Love the additional appearances and battles from heavy hitters like Cynthia and Lucian. Hunter J is kind of a weird presence here because there’s already so much going on and then we’ll get her increasing the stakes ten-fold momentarily for an episode which makes the episodes after feel awkward. But at least Gary got to come back so that was cool.
      • Introduction to Sinnoh - It should be noted that the final episode of AG ties extremely well into the first episode of DP. And in doing so, we have a great introduction to the region because we already know why Ash is there so we get plenty of time to focus on Dawn. Ash already knows Brock, so it doesn’t take too long to establish him as the other Sinnoh traveling companion. Overall, a quick but effective introduction to our main group. We also get a terrific introduction to Paul who has a completely different demeanor to Ash and I love that their first battle ends in a tie showing 1) how far Ash has come and 2) that at this point, either side to this rivalry can one-up each other. Great build-up and so early as well.
      • Jubilife City Pokemon Contest - Our first contest and we get introduced to another great character Zoey. I love how friendly she is to Dawn and somewhat cold to Ash solely due to her beliefs which are the polar opposite of someone like Nando whom we met prior. This adds to the idea that people with similar goals can go about it in different ways. We see how much more extravagant Sinnoh Contests are and I think the results of this Contest only go to show that just because Contests have battles doesn’t mean any regular trainer can do well in them as Zoey defeats Ash, Dawn, and Jessie. Overall, a great contest that goes to show how much this goal should be respected and how hard it is to achieve for Dawn.
      • Ash vs Roark - This was effective in further establishing why Ash has something to prove to Paul since he lost to Roark right in front of Paul who had already beaten Roark. Both this battle and the rematch used great strategies from both trainers. One thing I love about this gym battle is that it shows us that regardless of what Paul says about Ash’s Pokemon, even if they appear to be worse than Paul’s, Ash can still bring out the best in them and win.
      • Floarama Town Pokemon Contest - It starts kind of slow with a battle with Ash and Kenny, but by the time the Contest starts it’s not bad. I love how capable Jessie is and I do like how Dawn overcame her and her Pokemon getting nervous to get her first ribbon.
      • Ash vs Gardenia - Ash’s strategy here is so clever as he uses Cherubi’s advantage with the sun to his advantage by using it as a blind spot. I especially like how it’s a rematch of Turtwig vs Turtwig as we get to see how differently the two trainers use the same Pokemon. Overall, a great gym battle. If the first gym was about showing what Ash has to prove, this one just shows how capable of a trainer he is to be able to prove it.
      • Hearthome City Pokemon Contest + Tag Battle Competition - First we have the Contest portion in which Dawn competes with Nando, Zoey, and Jessie but sadly doesn’t even make it past the first round. I like that it’s not because her performance was bad, it’s that her competition was just better. And by now, we’re already familiar with her competition and what they’re capable of. Her frustration makes sense and it’s clear she has to be less overconfident which Zoey even warns her about early on. The Contest does end on an encouraging note as Nando defeats Zoey which allows Zoey to better sympathize with Dawn. She gives her advice to instead focus on doing better next time rather than the loss this time. Then we have the Tag Battle portion which was a nice way to cheer up Dawn who’s paired with Conway. Brock is also there paired up with Holly, and then the main highlight of Ash being paired up with Paul. Even when they’re on the same side, they can’t agree and after seeing how Ash trains up to this point we also see how Paul trains Chimchar which was pretty much abuse. What makes it worse is Paul just ends up giving up on commanding Chimchar later on, but Ash takes over and literally commands two Pokemon which goes to show just how much he believes in Pokemon even if they’re not technically his. Well not his “yet”. After Paul deems Chimchar not good enough, Ash takes him. Even though the two literally can’t agree on Chimchar they still manage to win the Competition. Overall, a solid arc that showcases their ideological differences extremely well.
    • SEASON 2 - This portion does an excellent job of developing the elements that S1 introduced for us whilst still adding a bit more. We meet some more new characters, start to get some build-up to Team Galactic, a Pokemon trade, some solid character returns, and some fun arcs. Dawn’s growth and seeing her end her losing streak is really satisfying to watch. Ash’s competence as a trainer and skill in battling starts to shine here. With both Ash and Dawn, you get the sense that they are growing into capable trainers and coordinators compared to how they were in S1. Even though they overcome a lot of their old challenges, they are still presented with new and bigger challenges. It’s a very well-done season that pushes the story along in interesting ways.
      • Solaceon Contest - Dawn once again is unable to pass the performance stage while Kenny and Jessie move on. This upsets her even more and Zoey comes to help her move forward with some advice. It does kind of feel like a repeat of the previous Contest, but it’s still not too bad.
      • Ash (& Dawn) vs Maylene - After losing to Paul, Maylene loses confidence in herself and I love that Dawn has a heart-to-heart about doubts and fears and is the one that gets to be the first challenge she accepts. Even if Dawn lost, her gym battle is amazing as you can see the Contest influence in her battling style and how both she and Maylene can gain confidence because of each other. It’s beautiful to see and this allows Maylene to accept Ash’s challenge. With Ash, the battle with Maylene is amazing. The swapping to utilize type advantage, the animation, and the results of training with Reggie all make for a fun 3v3.
      • Pokemon Ranger 2-Parter - It’s alright. Much better use of the ruthless Hunter J than earlier on as she gets to be evil for more than just 20 minutes. Seeing Solana again was neat and I do like that it continues to show Ash’s canon knack for Lucario-related aura things. It’s a fun mini-villain arc.
      • Wallace Cup - MAY IS BACK and they do a terrific job of showing how far she’s come, honoring the events of AG with some callbacks here and there, and how well she’s getting along with new characters like Dawn and Zoey. Love how Dawn and May got to team up to beat Kyle and Zoey right before they had to face each other. I’m not the biggest fan of Dawn being able to defeat May, but I do think a win like this was probably the best way to end Dawn’s losing streak and allow her to finally gain her second ribbon. It’s an all-around amazing moment in Dawn’s character arc.
      • Ash vs Crasher Wake - I like the extra focus and development for Buizel here and any battle where a Pokemon has to face a more evolved version of themselves is something I automatically like. Pretty good gym battle.
      • Pokemon Summer Academy - A pretty fun, lighthearted arc.We get a solid cast including some fun new characters, fun activities, and memorable moments. It is a filler arc, but it’s probably the best filler arc in the entire anime.
      • Celestic Town Pokemon Contest - This was a pretty neat contest in how Dawn had to defeat one of her mother’s old rivals. Perfect way to show how far she’s come in trying to be as capable of a coordinator as her mother.
      • Ash vs Fantina - This gym battle was insane. The back-and-forth battle tactics where each trainer knows exactly when to be offensive and defensive, the use of the newly developed Counter Shield strategy, the music, damn this battle was fun. One thing I like in particular is how Ash defeats her so efficiently in front of Barry who was admiring how Paul trained his Pokemon an episode ago. It’s like an indirect way of saying, “My way is better”. I think this is probably my favorite gym battle in DP.
    • SEASON 3 - I’d say this is DP’s weakest portion. It’s still not a bad season as there are still some quality episodes and story moments, but compared to how streamlined and tightly written the plot progression was in the first 2 seasons, this one doesn’t feel as solid with some noticeably weaker arcs, more weak fillers, and a much slower pace. Ash’s gym battles and Dawn’s contests are also not nearly as engaging as they were prior. Outside of Paul and Barry(kinda), I don’t think the other rivals are used as well here as other seasons. With that being said, we still get good progression of Dawn’s and especially Ash’s arcs and a conclusion to one of the storylines we’ve had brief glimpses of previously with a solid villain arc.
      • Ash vs Byron - It’s good, I just don’t think it stands out much from some of the other DP gym battles other than it being Gliscor’s gym battle win. Still, it’s a pretty fun battle.
      • Chocovine Town Pokemon Contest - Dawn gets another rival through Ursula and I do like that Dawn is in a healthy state of confidence at this point to have a less friendly rival with a more aggressive style of combat. She neither doubts herself nor thinks she can easily win, she manages to make her Pachirisu beat Gabite after it couldn’t even make a mark on it earlier on. Great way to show how good of a Coordinator she’s become.
      • Squallville PokeRinger - Ash’s first-ever win against Paul! It’s quite poetic that it’s Ash’s Straptor who gets the win. Love how his experience which PokeRingers from AG shines through here.
      • Sandalstraw Town Pokemon Contest - It adds to Dawn and Kenny's relationship so it has that if you care about it. It’s an okay contest even if it sets up a weird arc.
      • Pokemon Ping Pong Tournament - Yeah this is the worst arc in DP. It’s like a very stretched-out filler episode that should ideally have no importance yet they decided one of the main gang’s Pokemon would leave her and they decided it’s going to be Ambipom which already switched goals. This is just a bizarre writing choice on so many levels.
      • Ash vs Candice - Interestingly a 4v4 but it works pretty well. It’s cool to see how Ash has to adapt to a different environment. Pretty good gym battle.
      • Paul vs Brandon - We’ve seen Paul watch Ash lose to Roark, someone Paul already beat so now we see the opposite. Now we see Ash watch Paul lose to Brandon, someone Ash already beat. After so many moments of Paul downplaying Ash, it’s pretty satisfying to see.
      • Ash vs Paul: Lake Acuity - This might be the best 6v6 battle in the entire anime. Like, seriously, we’re about ¾ into DP and the buildup is already better than most other rivalries. The pacing for a full battle is perfect. The animation and cinematography are beautiful. The strategies of both trainers are phenomenal. I just don’t see any flaws in this battle whatsoever. 10 years later it still stacks up amazingly. And narratively, it’s great to see Ash have to pick himself up from such a heavy loss.
      • Twinleaf Festival - Very mixed arc. The stuff between Dawn and Joanna is pretty neat but the Team Rocket stuff is kind of annoying and clashes with the first day of the festival. Then there’s some wacky Natu and Xatu stuff. Then the battle tournament which wraps up pretty quickly to get to Ash vs Palmer which was okay. Not a big fan of this arc.
      • Lilypad Contest - I’m not a huge fan of how Team Rocket is used in DP as a whole, but it was cute to see James and Meowth win a Contest for Jessie. With Dawn, it’s clear she has to focus on controlling Mamoswine. Overall, a pretty okay contest.
      • Team Galactic - The buildup toward this point is mostly solid. Even though we’ve seen Cyrus prior, I think we needed to spend more time with him to understand him and his motivations earlier. But his appearances combined with Hunter J, Cynthia, Looker, and the Lake Guardians come together pretty well. The pacing could be a little bit better because the climax kind of falls a bit flat considering just how much build-up we’ve gotten. The action and visuals were pretty good. The arc plays out very similarly to how it played out in the games which is fine, but I do wish we got a more special product. Like instead of the DP anime being built around the Villain Arc, I’d prefer if the Villain Arc were built around the DP anime like how some of DP’s successors (XY, SM) go about it. Still, the arc is integrated fairly well and I think it does a good job wrapping everything up.
    • SEASON 4 - An improvement from the prior season, even if it doesn’t quite have the excellent pacing and progression of the first 2 seasons. But it does make sense because this is when everything starts to wrap up. For a final season, though, DP does a fantastic job of wrapping everything up in a satisfying way with solid arcs and wrapping up rivalries and storylines fairly well with good emotional payoff for Ash and Dawn’s journies. By the end, it’s incredibly touching to realize how much they’ve grown together. In all honesty, with how well everything wraps up, this easily could’ve been Ash’s final season where he wins a league and I would not mind at all.
      • Daybreak Town Contest - Dawn’s final ribbon to qualify for the Sinnoh Grand Festival is won here and I like that she has to overcome her fear of Plusle and Minun. It’s pretty out of the blue, but I think it works for a character who consistently needs to overcome. Most of all it’s satisfying to see her Mamoswine listen and perform proficiently seeing how it was solely the reason she lost her last Contest.
      • Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs 2-Parter - I’d like it a lot more if it wasn’t placed at a moment in the story where everything is more interesting than this. We didn’t need 2 episodes of this.
      • Neighborly Town Pokemon Contest - We see Jessie win another Contest which I like that DP is willing to show instead of skipping over. Meanwhile, I also like that even though Dawn has all the requirements she needs to enter the Grand Festival she still works hard and even develops a new combination move. You can see how far she’s come since her overconfident days early on.
      • Sinnoh Grand Festival - Such a solid freaking arc that’s given the same time and attention as one of Ash’s league arcs. All the coordinators we’ve met are gathered and you can see how much each of them grew with new achievements, new Pokemon, and more. Kenny’s the only one that doesn’t make it past the Battle stage which really raises the stakes. As expected, Dawn beats Ursula and she beats Jessie which I think are solid matchups considering their history with Dawn and track record. Zoey vs Nando was amazing and is one of the best coordinator matchups in the anime. Every battle thus far has shown just how far each of these coordinators has come. Finally, we have Dawn vs Zoey and it was really good as expected. Even though Dawn lost, I’d say it was done tastefully as each coordinator gave it their all and it made sense for each of their characters.
      • Ash vs Volkner - Yeah the gap between this and the last gym battle is kind of long. There are some story justifications for this but even then it’s kind of annoying on rewatches. The gym battle is amazing as Infernape finally controls its Blaze ability which is satisfying to see considering it means Ash was able to do what Paul couldn’t do properly. One of the best gym battles in DP.
      • Sinnoh League - Arguably one of the best leagues Ash has ever been in. Just like the Grand Festival prior, we meet all the trainers and see how far every one of them has come. And I love that Ash brought back some of his old Pokemon from other regions and we even get an evolution from Cyndaquil which was neat. Ash vs Nando was a delight to watch and we *sighs* also get a rumor spreading about a trainer with a Darkrai. Ash vs Conway brought out Ash’s creative thinking and Paul vs Barry was surprisingly fun as we got to see how Paul battled another trainer we know pretty well. Then, finally, we have Ash vs Paul. There’s a reason this battle is commonly agreed to be the best battle in the anime. This battle is just Pokemon at its best. The buildup, the strategy, the visuals, the tension, the ideologies, the surprises, the frustration, the pacing, the fact that the Pokemon that finally beat Paul was the one he thought wasn’t good enough for him. This is a masterpiece of a battle and a satisfying conclusion to the best rivalry in the anime. And then Ash battles *sighs* Tobias. Look this is one of the most annoying and egregious Ash league losses ever, but at the very least it was animated pretty good and it’s still really impressive what Ash was able to do. In the end, it’s still one of the best league arcs in the anime.
      • The End - You know that feeling when you’re finally done with a big exam and you can just chill, yeah the ending of DP captures that feeling well. Piplup being sad was a nice way to make the goodbye more emotional, I like how Ash, Dawn, and Brock reaffirm their goals. Leaving Dawn was surprisingly emotional and ending it off with their iconic high-five was cute. Ash leaving Brock also really hit here. Even if it was only 1 episode, it’s amazing how well it ended off a 190-episode journey. Great ending to a great show.
  • Technical Elements: Pretty Good
    • Visuals aren’t DP’s weakness or its strength. It’s very easy to say it’s the former seeing how far the anime has come, but it's really good for a show released in the late 2000s, releasing episodes weekly for 4 years. It has that “2000s anime look” that I love where the colors pop (seriously compare how vibrant Dawn looks in DP compared to how she looks in JN), and sure the animation may be stiff at times but they know when to go off and the battles and contests look amazing. Character designs are pretty good, pokemon moves definitely have a certain pizzazz yet power look to them, and it only gets better looking by the time the aspect ratio changes. Dramatic moments hit properly, Comedic moments feel funny, and overall the visuals just work with whatever the series is trying to do.
  • Rating: 7.5/10
DP is an amazing and engaging series with some of the most engaging storylines, well-written character arcs, great goal progression, and a phenomenal cast of rivals. The story's themes about different ideologies, standing up for what you believe, and facing challenges that you think you can’t overcome are all quintessential “Pokemon” and the story offers insightful commentary on all of these. However, it’s not without its faults though as the pacing and story structure get worse in the 2nd half, there are some bizarre writing choices, and Brock is extremely lacking in the character development and focus area. Even then, it’s a series that holds its own and has aged remarkably well. It will forever be the standard for what the pokemon anime should be.

A New Era: 1972 Presidential Election

40th Vice President Hiram L. Fong (HI) vs Senator Edward M. Kennedy (MA)

Background: As President Nelson Rockefeller finishes the final months of his second term, the Republicans look to Vice President Hiram Fong in order to keep the White House under their keep. The Democrats, however, now look to the young Senator Edward Kennedy in order to reclaim the presidency. While the Republicans are straddled with constant criticisms and protests over the Vietnam War, the Democrats must navigate the treacherous waters of Ted Kennedy's own controversial past.
Both Fong and Kennedy, who have received strong backings from their respective political establishment, must work to secure the votes of key voting blocks in the general election. Senator Kennedy, a continually outspoken liberal, has seen a resistance from the party's more center-left and conservative wing be hesitant to support him due to his lack of an ability to properly govern without their support. Fong, however, struggles to better energize conservative and Midwestern voters who are more skeptical of the more centrist liberal.
While neither Fong nor Kennedy have sought to use mudslinging in their respective campaigns, some within the Republican Party have put a heavy emphasis to criticize the latter for his role in the Chappaquiddick incident, in which he was ultimately charged with leaving the scene of an accident that caused the death of passenger Mary Jo Kopechne. This controversial moment resulted in the Democratic senator to two months in prison with a year on probation, leaving many on both sides to call for his resignation from the Senate.
When looking at the layout of the electoral map, pundits have noted numerous western states such as Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, and even California being in play for either candidate. Due the rise of the progressive counterculture on California campuses, some have seen the reliably-red state as a potential pickup for Kennedy, and one that would massively change the battlefield due to its large share of the electoral vote. This comes as Fong seeks to claim Texas and Minnesota in the general election, touting his ability to work with a bipartisan atmosphere and own humble upbringings. Outside of the west, surveys have seen Kennedy and Fong come neck to neck in key swing states like New York, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Florida.

Debates:
Throughout the debates, many of questions posed would revolve around the Vietnam War, economy, equal rights, foreign policy, and healthcare. Hiram Fong would tout his advantages through the economy, civil rights, foreign policy, environmental policies, healthcare, and the progress made in ending the Vietnam War due in part to his expanded duties as vice president. Kennedy, however, would push forward on matters of alternative energy, welfare, education, feminism, and other cultural matters.
Vice President Fong would note the current successes of the Rockefeller Administration in regards to removing more troops out of Vietnam, with a goal of convincing all factions in the war to sign a peace treaty by next year. Kennedy, however, would argue how the current process is taking too long, and that the war has still been expanding into Cambodia, costing hundreds of civilian casualties, a claim Fong would adamantly deny. Kennedy, however, would state that he would honor and continue the peace treaty process started by Rockefeller's administration. During these debates, Fong would continually point how Kennedy, like many Democrats, had initially supported U.S. intervention when President Walter Reuther first began conflict with Vietnam. When both were asked about giving amnesty to war resisters, neither Kennedy nor Fong would give concrete answers. While Fong expressed sympathies for protesters treated poorly by law enforcement, he stated that each individual case would require analysis to compare offenses committed versus the treatment and punishments given. Meanwhile, Kennedy would state that draft dodgers and those who burnt draft cards should be forced to serve out their prison sentences, if lightened by a certain amount.
On the matter of the economy, Fong would note the lowering inflation and new surplus of jobs, crediting the success of Rockefeller's economic strategy. Fong himself stated that he would continue Rockefeller's economic policies, with the added goal of instating tax reductions for the middle class, as well as seeking to begin cutting military funding once America had removed any and all traces of military presence from Vietnam. Kennedy, however, would argue that Rockefeller's economic policies had not taken into account how to better address those already in low-income brackets, and that the federal government must take action to provide them with better aid. When asked if Kennedy would support budget cuts or tax reductions, Kennedy would neither decline or give a full endorsement. Fong would press this matter, demanding that the people have full transparency on whether or not the president would seek to raise taxes, with Kennedy being forced to admit that he had no idea as to whether or not he would.
When the discussion went to the matter of civil rights, Kennedy would quickly position himself as a major supporter of affirmative action programs that would require colleges to provide a bridge between marginalized groups and higher education. Vice President Fong, while supportive and openly endorsing the concept of affirmative action programs, did express concern over how said quotas would impact certain groups over others, and wanted to allow state education systems some form of leeway in order to best accommodate the quotas to fit their populations' specific demographics. When asked about their support for the enforcement of integration on school buses, both Fong and Kennedy would give their support to the matter.
On the matter of healthcare, both Fong and Kennedy would give varied levels of support to the concept of government healthcare programs. While Fong has already pushed how the current plans for Medicare and Medicaid are already designed to account for the elderly, impoverished, new immigrants, disabled, veterans, those suffering from the death of a spouse, and their families, Kennedy would argue that the bills weren't widespread enough. While Kennedy himself would note the concept of universal healthcare as a stronger alternative, Fong has called the idea far too extreme and would completely lower the quality of healthcare access, as well as give bureaucrats power over the private healthcare decisions of families. Kennedy himself would be forced to take a more moderate stance, admitting that the concept of universal healthcare may not be plausible or practical. Fong himself, however, would be forced to recognize the failure of the Rockefeller Administration in establishing the healthcare programs in fast enough time, as well as failing to account for certain necessities like dentistry and psychological treatment for trauma victims.
When asked about their respective goals for conservation and environmentalism. Fong would discuss his intentions to further expand the national parks program, increase regulations on pesticides, and create new social programs to better involve local communities with recycling and conservation efforts. Kennedy himself would discuss the need to invest in alternative energy sources, stating how fossil fuels and gasoline were not sustainable energy sources, and would create a Department of Energy tasked with researching how to better implement green energy into infrastructure of certain federal buildings. When asked about the concept of nuclear energy, Vice President Fong would discuss how the controversial energy could be utilized if first experimented upon through a federal program before releasing the technology and research to private companies, thus creating new jobs and infrastructure for poorer counties.
With the the final focus being on foreign policy, Vice President Fong would highlight his own role in regards to helping to expand diplomatic ties with various Asian countries. Fong would also discuss the benefits of bettering diplomatic relations with China, despite its ties with the Soviet Union, in order to better influence Asian countries via stronger ties with the communist nation's pre-established diplomatic ties. Kennedy himself would discuss needing to convince Britain to remove troops from Northern Ireland, and using America's greater influence within NATO and United Nations in order to establish a United Ireland. With the matter of the Soviet Union, Hiram Fong would argue towards using excess money not spent by the U.S. military and shift it towards aiding the neighboring countries of the Soviets in order to enhance their respective influences against any pressure from Russia. Fong would back this claim up by noting how the Soviets would use their close proximity to smaller countries in order to pressure said nations to make military and diplomatic decisions that would benefit Russia more. Kennedy would criticize the idea as an open invitation for more reckless military spending, and claimed that the Soviets had never used their proximity as a means to influence their neighbors, but this claim would be proven false by numerous foreign policy experts.

Candidates:

Hiram Leong Fong: 40th Vice President of the United States of America (1965-present), Senator from Hawaii (1959-present), Speaker of the Hawaii House of Representatives (1946-1954). Gerald Rudolph Ford: 45th Speaker of the House (1969-present), House Minority Leader (1965-1969), Republican House Conference Chairman (1963-1965), Representative for MI-05 (1949-present).
Hiram Fong: "Fong and Ford for America!"
After serving as the right-hand man of Nelson Rockefeller for the past eight years, Hiram Fong now returns to the national stage to run for the presidency, again. On the campaign trail, Fong has highlighted the successes of the Rockefeller Administration in regards to economic recovery, civil rights expansion, and environmental protections. In his own merits, Vice President Fong has promoted his own successes in strengthening diplomatic ties with China and other eastern countries, helping to lobby new immigration reforms, and the current progress being made to create new healthcare programs for elderly and impoverished. If elected, Fong has promised to further pursue expanding on desegregation policies in both education and the work force, reforming the immigration system, and begin exploring new benefits to better aid the shellshocked soldiers returning from Vietnam.
While Fong has labeled himself as a centrist Republican, some of the more right-wing members of the party have questioned the Vice President's willingness to aid the conservative agenda. This, in part, would lead Vice President Fong to selecting House Speaker Gerald Ford as his running mate to better win over the right with the latter's history of helping to pass conservative legislation. This would leave numerous conservatives expressing frustration, and some within the party threatening a write-in campaign against Fong, instead voting for conservatives like Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater. While Fong has tried to mitigate these claims as small insurgences that typically dwindle out by the general election, some would notice Fong's hesitation to completely brush off the write-in effort.
Endorsements: President Nelson Rockefeller (NY), House Majority Leader Richard H. Poff (VA), House Majority Whip John Jacob Rhodes (AZ), Senate Majority Leader Hugh Scott (PA), Senate Majority Whip Robert P. Griffin (MI), Senator Neal Blaisdell (HI), Senator Margaret Chase Smith (ME), Senator Lowell Weicker (CT), Frmr Senator Robert Taft Jr. (OH), Senator William B. Edward \"Ted\" Moore Kennedy: Senator from Massachusetts (1962-present), Senate Minority Whip (1969-1971). Morris King Udall: Representative for AZ-02 (1961-present).
Edward Kennedy: "Kennedy Moore, America's Future!"
The young Democrat has run a fierce campaign against the popular vice president, campaigning on the progressive themes that both his brothers have campaigned on for their respective campaigns. Kennedy has made numerous calls for the immediate removal of all troops from Vietnam, arguing that the current process is taking too long. Kennedy has also argued for the need to begin investing in alternative forms of energy, expand on women's' rights, and lower the voting age to eighteen. This campaign has helped to make the senator into a bastion of the party's liberal wing, being heavily backed by the rising feminist movement across the U.S.. This has made Kennedy into a popular choice among urban women and college students, with many considering him to be a symbol of the new progressive movement.
While a strong progressive, the young Democrat has suffered from numerous criticism of his lack of major political experience outside of the Senate, a perceived disconnect from rural voters, an inability to properly work with the moderate and conservative wings of Congress, and his infamous involvement with the Chappaquiddick incident. While Kennedy has pushed how he truly regrets his actions and has served his time, many within the party still question whether or not he is still fit to serve in office considering the severity of his actions. A major gaffe in his campaign would come during an interview on CBS, when news broadcaster John Chancellor asked him why he wanted to be president in the first place. Senator Kennedy would initially say it was out of shock over how the previous nominee, Sam Yorty, campaigned so heavily against traditional Democratic values. When pressed for a more concrete answer, Kennedy would stumble and admit to still not being sure.

2024.05.30 15:53 Puzzleheaded_Pay6586 Haunted New Vegas

Last week i went to the local garage sale to try to get some quality games for my xbox 360.I saw a CD pack with a single,un-marked CD with permanent marker with the writing, New
Vegas,$2.45.i wondered about the price but didnt think too much of it at first.I paid the guy running it.I asked about the game, who he bought it from and all that.He said “i have no idea,it was my sons, and he went missing 10 years ago”.I drove back home with the game and a couple of other things, like battlefield 4 and payday 2.I was excited to play NV because i have enjoyed fallout 4 and have also heard that this has a good story and fun gameplay,as i loaded into the game, instead of seeing the intro cutscene,i was greeted to a cutscene that was not in the gameplay videos i have seen.It was a circle of people wearing animals heads. Not skulls,Heads. It was in a forest, and if you have played new vegas before, you know it takes place in a dusty wasteland version of las vegas. One of them took their mask off,and said to the player character,”I know who you Are,James Webb” he knew my full name. But how?His face was distorted, like a static TV was on his face. His voice was even more distorted and quite deep.He pulled a pistol out of nowhere and shot the character. The character flopped to the side as a puddle of blood filled the screen.while a extremely loud ringing noise filled his ears.the noise came to a halt.A face appeared on the screen. It looked mostly Identical to the man who ran the garage sale.He started screaming”HELP,HELP” and then some numbers and letters appeared on the screen, when The music from new vegas radio started playing slower, more eerie.I took a photo of the numbers on the screen.and it sent me to google earth,I entered street view,It was a photo of outside my home.I then heard a knock at the door.It was the face of the person from the screen in fallout. His eyes were darked out and sand spewed from his ears, nose and mouth. The then collapsed when his nose fell off.He started to look like wrinkles were growing minutely and he turned pink.He was a ghoul.he had a pip boy from the games on his crippled wrist that read.He is coming,Run.It also had a radio message that said”dad,I love you,I am being hunted by something”.I now knew i had to bring his body to his father.I hid him in the trunk of my car,so police wouldnt pull me over for having an obviously malnourished 20 year old in my car.I returned to his dad.``i'm so sorry,He just appeared at my door.” i said to his dad,The man who ran the garage sale.I played the message that was on the pip-boy.The father took it in and started crying his eyes out.I could still hear it in his voice. He was so angry and took his shotgun out of his closet,He went to where his sons tracker app on his phone. His dad still hasn't come back,so i am afraid for their lives.
