At first I was annoyed, but decided to spend the next 38 mins in realistic self-talk and gratitude. The round about attack from audible antagonists subsided. My work is only a 10 minute ride from my house so typically I leave around 3:48 to ensure I clock in by 4:00. But because I had been woken up and didn't hit the snooze button 3 times I was out the door by 3:40. I take a back road to work that runs along the Schuylkill River in PA and as I came around a bend in the road, police lights lit up the roadway. A tree had fallen and I wasn't allowed to pass, forcing me to go 2 miles and 5 minutes out of my way. Still, I clocked in at work on time. There are no coincidences with this occurrence and dealing with these entities. I sense everything is a well orchestrated recreation. Idk.... They help, they hurt. They mock, mimick then mend. They got your back and stab you in the back simultaneously. Nepotism tainted with sadism. They synchronicticly operate amorally in a construct dependant on morals. Gifts wrapped in barbed wire meant for you to develop callouses on your fingertips. I often wonder if what we experience is a confluence comprised of the essence of eternity versus transience. The confusion created in ones consciousness when the boundless concepts of an eternal existence clash with the confines of a finite existence. I do my best to make sense of how implementing and evoking excessive negativity has been producing such a positive outcome. I'm sure some exaggerated sense of a higher calling had bewitched me just long enough to view the carrot in front of my face as appetizing, encouraging me to push forward through every bout of terror. Smart move when you think about it. Create a scenario larger than the monster of addiction and more appealing than the drugs themselves. My vanity was played on with promises creating a codependent integrity, only to throw sticks at the rehabilitated dog you know belongs in the wild with his family. An intelligent distraction and design indeed. A year ago I was homeless, broke, addicted to drugs and alcohol and estranged from loved ones. Today I'm sober, employed, happy, healthy and strong. Most relationships are mended as amends have been made. My writing, insight and understanding comes from an infrequently untapped arena available for all who are transparent enough to explore. These entities, whoever they are, retreat to a home of intuition and premonition where design and destiny is mistaken for manipulation. A home I visit nightly to discuss, dissect and dream about the days collected data. I can't help but feel that's where they've always been and have temporarily made a conscious exhibition of the chaos I had been creating in the collective unconscious. Maybe it was all fun and games until arrested development had occurred? Like opening the door to a hoarders house and looking at the accumulation of shameful blockades only to assist in aggressively dragging out the garbage while fighting with the homeowner that desperately wants to hold onto every unnecessary emotional attachment. I remind myself it's ok to let go of the garbage. It was only I that gave it bloated merit in the moment. The drugs and drama gave an unworthy value to commonplace experiences, devaluing worthy moments. Driving my car to work was never meant to have the same release of dopamine and serotonin as attending a Rage Against The Machine concert. My excessive self-manipulation of the biochemical reaction I had to my reality lead to an intervention not of my own volition. Which is fine, I had given up and was disinclined to put the necessary work in to repair the damage I had done. Maybe this was a choice made in some deeper recess of unconscious existence. The more I rebuke and battle the negative the easier it becomes to naturally emit the appropriate emotional response in the moment. I'm mindful of how quickly the potential can become kinetic energy when left unchecked. If such abilities were in my hands would I utilize them in such a fashion? Only if awareness of the triumphant ends far surpassed the misery of the means. I believe they possess observation of all probable outcomes and my hope often lies in that awareness. Ant has made huge strides in his passing since he's been in the league, from 2.9 accidental assists a game as a rookie, to 6.5 in the playoffs this year, by being able to read defenses and hit open shooters and cutters.
In order for him and this team to take the next step, he needs to continue working on this aspect of his game. What we saw from the Mavs was two guards who could dissect double teams, create space, throw lobs, and hit long cross-court passes to shooters accurately.
Ant still struggles with double teams and hitting those long passes with accuracy. Too many times the recipient had to stretch to catch the pass and couldn't shoot in rhythm, and our lob game is virtually non-existent. I never want him to lose his aggressiveness and become a foul merchant like Luka, but there is a lot of room for improvement here, and we were right there with the Mavs in games 1-3, and even a small bump could have swung the series.
I'm looking forward to watching him continue to grow and becoming the team to beat for the next decade.

I've created an extensive Excel sheet that contains all international rugby results in history (leaving a margin of error of 2-3% given the challenges in sourcing some results). To my knowledge, this is the only such database available on the internet, though I'd be happy to be proven wrong as it would provide a source to reconcile my data against.
I'm keen on any feedback, and I'm posting a Google Drive link to the sheet. Due to its size, the only way to access it currently is by downloading it onto a PC and opening it through Excel. Eventually, I'll optimize it for Google Sheets and mobile devices, and ultimately, I aim to host it as a website.

- Summary Log: A summarized table depicting all historical results in a digestible format.
Upcoming Features
- Competition Analysis Tab: Dissect data by competition. So far, I've successfully labeled World Cup fixtures, 6/5 Nations fixtures, Tri Nations/Rugby Championship fixtures, and a few early 1900s Olympic Games fixtures.
- Location Data: Currently, locations show only the country, but I'm working on adding cities and stadiums (about 8% complete), which will allow more detailed filters.
- Identifying further functionality (open to any ideas, even harsh ones).
- Error recognition (let me know if something seems wrong or broken).
Future Goals
This project started as an effort to recreate world rankings from 1871 (as official rankings only began in 2003). Along the way, I realized how poorly recorded rugby history is, especially for the 150 or so nations outside the traditional powers. My ultimate aim is to create a rugby historical results database that rivals those of Cricinfo for cricket and other great sports databases.I'm keen on any feedback, and I'm posting a Google Drive link to the sheet. I'll add in timestamps for what I'll be discussing about the things shown not just in the trailer, but I'll also talk about the stuff on the website that'll add in any additional context. If there's anything I missed, or if you want to add onto my points, feel free to do so. I'll edit the post and credit you for the find.
0:10-0:15 -- The two characters here, according to the website are the blacksmith, Gemma, and the Handler, Alma. It says on the website that Alma will be with you on hunts, but I doubt it'll be anything more than her staying at basecamp to cook food and give you quests while on an expedition.
0:17 -- Palico talks. Don't no how to feel about this. There is precedent for it with the Stories games, but I never liked it there. The voice is also ear grating. Hopefully they'll let us turn of Palico voices, at least while on hunts. Also our Hunter actively talks during cutscenes, and this is the first time he does so, though it truly confirms this later on.
0:20-0:29 -- We get focus into the fourth character, Nata. The website just calls him a "mysterious boy" and the trailer gives the indication that he'll be the center focus for the story. Apparently we're trying to "find someone." No clue who, but that'll probably be revealed either in a story trailer, or they'll keep it secret for us to find out while playing the game.
0:32-0:39 -- This is our first look into this locale called, Windward Plains, in the Forbidden Land, which is essentially this games "New World." From the text on the website, they called the Windward Plains a "Hunting Locale." This insinuates that we're still keeping broken off open zone maps that you travel between via the hub town. These maps are, however, gigantic from the looks of the trailer.
0:39-0:41 -- Reveal of our mount. It's name is Seikret. The website states that it's sense of smell will help us track our objective, whether it be our target or a specific item. That possibly means Seikret is our scoutfly in Wilds. We have to have him sniff tracks, and if it sniffs enough tracks, it'll bring us to our monster. Of course, we can sharpen, use items, and essentially do everything we can do with our Palamute from Rise on Seikret.
0:40-0:42 -- The small monsters on screen are called something like, "Karacnoth." There's nothing about them on the website, so I just spelled them like how I heard them. The main point of this, however, is to show of the massive herd. The website states that not only will small monsters be a part of a herd, but so will certain large monsters, and they'll all behave differently depending on their role in the ecosystem.
0:49 -- Small monsters now have their own turf wars. Previously, only large monsters have been able to engage in turf wars, but now they've given small monsters the ability to. Although, in this case, it seems less like a turf war and more of an act of predation.
0:54-1:00 -- The first large monster revealed. Its called the Doshaguma. It's a fanged beast, and it'll be a part of this large monster pack structure.
1:07-1:11 -- This is a new system that the website elaborates on. It's called a "Hook Slinger" a new modification of our slinger where it'll hook onto things to grab in the distance. Essentially, think of the clutch claw, but instead of grabbing onto monsters, it grabs onto items. In this scenario, it's used to trigger a trap while mounted in order to single out a Doshaguma from its herd.
1:13-1:15 -- This is the first time we get info on the sandstorm. The website elaborates on this further. In each hunting locale, there will be two major climate changes. One climate will be serene and peaceful, while the next will be ferocious and chaotic. For the Windward Plains, the serene climate is that of the shining sun on the savanna like how it looked the whole trailer. The chaotic will be the sandstorm that comes in to disturb the environment.
1:35 -- Monster attacks also fling monster corpses. Maybe also alive monsters.
1:36 -- Second new large monster introduced. Technically, it made an appearance earlier in the trailer, 0:35, but I waited till now to point it out cause this is the main appearance. It's called Chatacabra(maybe pronounced as, cat-a-ca-bra). It's an amphibian that coats its forearms in saliva to power itself up. Most likely it'll douse you with the water element, since, you know, saliva.
1:47-1:52 -- This is interesting. You call your Seikret WHILE being knocked down. Instead of getting up yourself, your Seikret will pick you up with its snout. The animation looks clean af too. What I'm wondering is if it triggers automatically upon knock down, or if you have to call it yourself during a window of opportunity.
1:55-1:57 -- Small monsters not only turf war with each other, but they'll also engage in turf wars with large monsters. Don't know how it's triggered, but if it can be triggered reliably, it may be a source of reliable free damage.
2:00-2:02 -- Mounted Combat. Not only mounted combat, but also active weapon swapping. The website confirms that the sling is a place for a second weapon that you can bring with you while out on a hunt. It turned out that both of these rumors were true, though its not known if melee weapons also have mounted attacks, or if its just the ranged weapons.
2:07 -- There is a new dismounting attack. While dismounting your Seikret, you can perform an attack.
2:10-2:16 -- Alright, here's the big stuff. The website calls this, Focus Mode. Focus Mode allows you to target specific weakspots that will let you perform special attacks if you perform it correctly. It might be a counter or something similar, though I'm more leaning toward a counter.
2:20 -- Gunlance Big Boom attack(Don't remember its name).
2:20-2:22 -- This is likely a new Great Sword move. No idea if this is a Focus Mode attack or something else. You dig your blade into the monster and run along it, dealing massive damage. The monster also staggers at the end, but I'm not sure if its a guaranteed stagger, or if they made it do that solely for the showcase.
2:27 -- Confirmation our Hunter is fully voiced even in cutscenes.
2:30-2:35 -- Multiplayer showcase. Nothing too special here.
2:37-2:41 -- This looks like a Focus Mode attack considering the animation. This is why I think Focus Mode is a counter, cause the hunter triggered Focus Mode, got hit, then the attack began where the Hunter wedges the Greatsword in the Doshaguma's mouth.

2024.05.29 19:34 DuelaDent52 The new Light/Darkness dynamic is WRONG (and how it can be fixed)
This has been something that’s been bugging me since they adopted this idea and the more they repeat it the more frustrated I get. The premise they’ve run with since Lightfall - Light is the domain of the physical while Darkness is the domain of the mind - is, while not necessarily inaccurate, still pretty grossly incorrect when taking into consideration all the evidence of them acting otherwise.
The big sticking point for the Light being the physical is because the Traveller is a terraformer. But Darkness has also been shown to terraform, to devastating effect. And furthermore, the way the Traveller has terraformed has always been described as much more flowery and poetic and spiritual and may or may not even involve tapping into other timelines, like a call and response between the Traveller and the planet it graces. You could argue it’s exactly that, just flowery language and poetry… except the Hive were able to steal and reverse-engineer its “song” that it sings to terraform, so it’s definitely a lot mor ethereal than mere terraforming or molecular manipulation. Plus if it were just physical then it wouldn’t sate the very metaphysical hunger the Worms suffer from.
Light is physical because our subclasses - Arc, Solar and Void - are all embodiments of actual physical phenomenon, whereas stuff like Stasis and Strand have no physical counterpart but instead embody “control” and “connection”. Putting aside that Stasis looks and behaves a lot like ice because technically it isn’t, you could argue that Stasis is a physical phenomenon because it works by negating and reversing entropy. The Weave exists with or without a mind to observe it, so it’s just as much part of our world as lightning or fire. The argument is that they’re mental because of the mindsets needed to utilise both, but Light also relies on feelings and mindsets to utilise it as well! Not to mention our lightning and fire and nothingness or whatever don’t always behave the way you’d normally expect them to - I don’t think you can set somebody on fire and not only do they not get burned but it patches up their wounds for good measure.
But here’s the real kicker for me. So the past year and a spell has been talking about how Light is physical and Darkness is consciousness over and over and over again, that Darkness is memory and Light can’t touch it. But we finally enter the Traveller in The Final Shape, and what do we find? It’s a greatest hits compilation shaped by our memories. And that’s not the Witness’ doing, that’s on us!
There’s a lot of allusions to assorted Hindu mythologies and philosophies when it comes to these topics. For example: the Mara is the name of the demon in Buddhism who tried to tempt the Buddha away from spiritual enlightenment and shackle him to the material world - appropriate for the woman who denied the Yang-Liwei freedom from existence and shackled everyone to material lives once more. Maya across many schools of thought is the illusion of something being real, reflecting first her big discovery of the Vex’s simulation powers and then her whole experience with the Veil. Ahamkara is literally ego, the sense of self. In this vein, I think the idea of Light being “physical” and Darkness being consciousness may come from Samkhya, an ancient school of thought that suggests the universe and everything that encompasses it is composed of Purusha, or mind/the Witness-consciousness, and Prakriti, or matter.
But even the most cursory glance at Wikipedia will tell you those descriptors don’t paint the whole picture. Purusha is everything that observes, that defines with impartiality. Prakriti on the other hand is everything that is observed: this encompasses the physical, yes, but it also extends to emotions, thoughts and even concepts. Put another way, Prakriti is everything that has a name; Purusha is what puts a name to it to begin with.
This fits in really well with everything we know of Light and Darkness. We always got answers for why Light and Darkness are, but not necessarily what they are. Everything we’ve seen of Darkness has been about seizing control of observation and deciding what is and isn’t real. It’s the ultimate end goal of the Vex; it’s how Oryx Took; it’s how Deepsight functions, exposing how something looked in the past; it’s how the Nightmares manifested and preyed on the minds our minds and plagued the Moon; it’s partially how Mara shaped the Distributary and everything and everyone within it; the very act of observing something is to winnow down the possibility of it ever being anything else and giving it a definite shape. The Light, meanwhile, has always been about potential, deciding on what could be. It cheats death, it fosters life, its only limits are bound by the imagination, it is fuelled and tempered by feeling and lets you give form to anything that you can think of.
Heck, what do we see the Witness doing in The Final Shape? It’s dissecting things, calcifying them, trying to understand what makes everything tick so it can build its own perfect universe. Even its very name is an evocation of this - the Witness, as in the Witness-consciousness. Double Heck, this has already pointed out before but it bears repeating: is it truly coincidence the Veil resembles an eye?

The big sticking point for the Light being the physical is because the Traveller is a terraformer. But Darkness has also been shown to terraform, to devastating effect. And furthermore, the way the Traveller has terraformed has always been described as much more flowery and poetic and spiritual and may or may not even involve tapping into other timelines, like a call and response between the Traveller and the planet it graces. You could argue it’s exactly that, just flowery language and poetry… except the Hive were able to steal and reverse-engineer its “song” that it sings to terraform, so it’s definitely a lot mor ethereal than mere terraforming or molecular manipulation. Plus if it were just physical then it wouldn’t sate the very metaphysical hunger the Worms suffer from.
Light is physical because our subclasses - Arc, Solar and Void - are all embodiments of actual physical phenomenon, whereas stuff like Stasis and Strand have no physical counterpart but instead embody “control” and “connection”. Putting aside that Stasis looks and behaves a lot like ice because technically it isn’t, you could argue that Stasis is a physical phenomenon because it works by negating and reversing entropy. The Weave exists with or without a mind to observe it, so it’s just as much part of our world as lightning or fire. The argument is that they’re mental because of the mindsets needed to utilise both, but Light also relies on feelings and mindsets to utilise it as well! Not to mention our lightning and fire and nothingness or whatever don’t always behave the way you’d normally expect them to - I don’t think you can set somebody on fire and not only do they not get burned but it patches up their wounds for good measure.
But here’s the real kicker for me. So the past year and a spell has been talking about how Light is physical and Darkness is consciousness over and over and over again, that Darkness is memory and Light can’t touch it. But we finally enter the Traveller in The Final Shape, and what do we find? It’s a greatest hits compilation shaped by our memories. And that’s not the Witness’ doing, that’s on us!
There’s a lot of allusions to assorted Hindu mythologies and philosophies when it comes to these topics. For example: the Mara is the name of the demon in Buddhism who tried to tempt the Buddha away from spiritual enlightenment and shackle him to the material world - appropriate for the woman who denied the Yang-Liwei freedom from existence and shackled everyone to material lives once more. Maya across many schools of thought is the illusion of something being real, reflecting first her big discovery of the Vex’s simulation powers and then her whole experience with the Veil. Ahamkara is literally ego, the sense of self. In this vein, I think the idea of Light being “physical” and Darkness being consciousness may come from Samkhya, an ancient school of thought that suggests the universe and everything that encompasses it is composed of Purusha, or mind/the Witness-consciousness, and Prakriti, or matter.
But even the most cursory glance at Wikipedia will tell you those descriptors don’t paint the whole picture. Purusha is everything that observes, that defines with impartiality. Prakriti on the other hand is everything that is observed: this encompasses the physical, yes, but it also extends to emotions, thoughts and even concepts. Put another way, Prakriti is everything that has a name; Purusha is what puts a name to it to begin with.
This fits in really well with everything we know of Light and Darkness. We always got answers for why Light and Darkness are, but not necessarily what they are. Everything we’ve seen of Darkness has been about seizing control of observation and deciding what is and isn’t real. It’s the ultimate end goal of the Vex; it’s how Oryx Took; it’s how Deepsight functions, exposing how something looked in the past; it’s how the Nightmares manifested and preyed on the minds our minds and plagued the Moon; it’s partially how Mara shaped the Distributary and everything and everyone within it; the very act of observing something is to winnow down the possibility of it ever being anything else and giving it a definite shape. The Light, meanwhile, has always been about potential, deciding on what could be. It cheats death, it fosters life, its only limits are bound by the imagination, it is fuelled and tempered by feeling and lets you give form to anything that you can think of.
Heck, what do we see the Witness doing in The Final Shape? It’s dissecting things, calcifying them, trying to understand what makes everything tick so it can build its own perfect universe. Even its very name is an evocation of this - the Witness, as in the Witness-consciousness. Double Heck, this has already pointed out before but it bears repeating: is it truly coincidence the Veil resembles an eye?
