2024.05.17 05:07 Huge-Clue-1917 International Student, How can I get the LAC Scholarship?

I applied to USF a month past the priority scholarship deadline as I heard about the university late. Due to this, unfortunately, I did not receive any scholarships but I was wondering if I'd still have a chance for the Latin and Caribbean scholarship for the upcoming semester by sending in an application upon receiving a 500$ per semester scholarship. So far ive only heard of freshmen getting this scholarship upon admission. Is this scholarship solely given to first year students upon admission?

2024.05.17 03:37 Lavendercs UT Austin Appeal Possibility?

Got an email today that I'm a finalist for one of the UT Austin Texes Exes scholarship (Orange Jackets one). The problem is, that I was never accepted into UT Austin.
I applied in December and stupidly missed a document (a letter saying that my school doesn't class rank and another transcript). I only realized this 2 months after applying since I never got an email about anything missing and I logged on to apply for scholarships. I just logged onto my portal and stupidly assumed the grey checkmarks were just processing at the time and forgot about it.
I contacted admissions once I realized and they said my application wasn't reviewed at all due to the error since I missed the deadline, unless I appealed. I couldn't appeal since it was an entire 2 months later and totally my fault so I just let it go.
Now that I'm somehow a finalist for this scholarship can I do anything about it? Should I just do the scholarship interview anyway? I'm international (Canada) if it makes any difference.

2024.05.17 01:35 littieekittiee Queens vs Western vs Guelph Psychology

The decision deadline is coming up and I have officially received all my acceptances! I am deciding between Queens, Western, and Guelph, all of which I applied to psychology (BA).
I am having difficulty making a decision and just wanted some advice. Some important factors that should be considered are that I recieved co-op placement at Guelph, and am likely to receive an entrance scholarship at Western for my average, whereas I am likely to receive no arrangements from Queens.
Regardless of which school I am to stay at, I would stay on residence, though Queens is 3ish hours further from my home than Western and Guelph.
I posted this hoping to receive advice and just a general opinion on each school (social life/campus/psych program/etc.) to help choose :) !

2024.05.17 00:59 Simple-Hat-4660 HEEELLPP I don't know what to do regarding universities (update)

I applied for different programs at different universities in Ontario and quebec. These are:
1.UofT - Computer Science and Mechanical engineering 2. McMaster - faculty of engineering 3. UWaterloo - Mechatronic engineering 4. BrockU - Game Design 5. McGill University (Quebec) - Computer Science and Mechanical engineering
But I don't really what to do. I feel very lost rn.
Until now, I've been accepted into CS at McGill and BrockU but not for the program I chose but to Interactive Arts&Science (I don't even know what that is), but the situation is very complicated.
  1. I am an Ontario High school student. Idk if OSAP covers outside province and/or if studying in Quebec I have access to an OSAP type program but of that province?
  2. I was accepted into Brock with a 13,600 scholarship. (McGill didn't give me anything)
  3. I applied for a Major scholarship at McGill (I haven't received response yet)
  4. The deadline to accept or reject McGill offer was may 5th and was extended till may 14th
  5. Next round of admission at UofT is gonna be late may.
  6. In any of the universities. I don't have the money to attend.
  7. I haven't received any other answer from any other university.
  8. If I accept McGill to save my spot at the university and then wait for the response of the other universities. I would need to pay 400bucks right away. Which I don't have but If I decide to go, I'll pay.
  9. Currently I am living in St catharines, therefore Brock is right in the corner (no need of residence)
Prob those are the more important points so far. Just to clarify, my average 4Us is 96%
And idk if going to Brock for Interactive Arts & Science could limit my possibilities after studies bcs: 1. Brock is located I'm st catharines and generally speaking in the Niagara region there's nothing as CoOps or jobs in that field.
Meanwhile CS at McGill could have (according to my understanding) more field after graduation bcs is in Montreal and bcs is smth more open than Videogame related program
Sorry for the big Thread but I am struggling so much rn and I don't know what to do. Help me pls đŸ™đŸ»
NOTE: IDK really know if the university you attend to for undergrad really affect your chances to get a job. (When thinking about Ivy League universities)
UPDATE: Today at 7 am I received an email from UW, got rejected (as expected🙃) and last week I got another email from McMaster (same fate). Hoping to hear good news from UofT (at this time I have no hope anymore.) Wish me luck!
I also decided to pay the 400 non-refundable just to save the spot at mcgill and now I am grateful about it with all these bad news from UW and McMaster.

2024.05.16 21:22 armadilloblues Question about R&R to schools you’ve already been accepted

So, I think I have decided I want to take a year to try to improve my LSAT, and get some more work and life experience. Studied for lsat for a week, got a 16low, know I can do better. Also, in 2023 I had a lot of negative stuff happen, including a stepparent’s death, and going into my senior year of college afterward and trying to apply to pay schools didn’t allow me to fully process it all to be honest. That coupled with financial aspects, I think it would be best for me to take that year. However, I was dumb and tried to go through with the plan to go to law school right out of undergrad so I still applied.
I got into two schools that I would want to go to and would apply to again. They’re in the 25-50 range. I just know I didn’t apply with the best stats I could have due to my LSAT, (GPA is not an issue) and also think I would personally benefit greatly from that year off of school and it would put me in the best situation to succeed when I do reapply and go.
However I am afraid these two schools will blacklist me. I am deposited at one currently because they had an early deadline and I was still waiting on three top decisions, and the other I successfully negotiated a slight scholarship increase. Would this ruin my chances of being accepted again to both institutions, even if I were to explain my situation/apply with higher stats? Thank you in advance!

Transgender golfer narrowly misses out on qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open
"Transgender golfer Hailey Davidson missed qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open on Monday by one stroke. Davidson finished in a three-way tie for third in the 36-hole qualifier at Bradenton (Fla.) Country Club with rounds of 70-73, emerging as the first alternate from the event. She tied two-time LPGA Tour winner Jasmine Suwannapura and Louis Olsson Campbell of Sweden. Suwannapura is the second alternate."
"A native of Scotland who lives in the U.S., Davidson received a scholarship to play for the men's team at Wilmington University, an NCAA Division II school, in 2011. Davidson then transferred to D-III Christopher Newport University.
"Davidson started transitioning in 2015 and underwent gender reassignment surgery in January 2021, a requirement under both the USGA and LPGA's gender policies to be eligible to compete. Davidson tried to qualify for the LPGA twice, failing to get out of Stage I in 2021 and 2022.
"This year, Davidson competed on the NXXT Tour, a mini-tour based in Florida. She was a three-time winner on the tour, including one title in six starts in 2024, but in March, the tour changed its policy to require that all players be a biological female at birth to participate. Davidson remains in fourth place in the tour's player of the year race."

2024.05.16 16:37 Mean_Sound_44 UPDATE: Would it be bad choice to ask a uni if they could reconsider my application?

Hey guys! I didn't expect to receive so many responses on my previous post (Link) so I wanted to give you all an update.
I haven't received any correspondence from the adcom despite reaching out twice (the follow up mail was my scholarship letter highlighting the deadline for acceptance). So yeah, I have essentially been ghosted by the program. The deadline for the scholarship acceptance is tomorrow, and this is after I asked for an extension so I don't plan to extend any further.
Honestly, even a simple negative response would've been okay instead of straight up ignoring my mails lol. This whole thing was obviously very stressful and demoralising.
But it is what it is ig?

2024.05.16 14:25 ImBoredasfboi AITA : for not putting my group mates names on the project and causing them to fail the class?

i (19m) was assigned by the professor to a random group which had 4 other students. we were assigned a project where we had to make a diagnosis and treatment plan for a case that will be selected by the professor for each group. it was for 40% of the total grade then we had to present it.
the professor gave us the case and i was just praying that we got one of the easier cases. we were assigned a case for a child that had a neurological disorder. it was the HARDEST case of all of the possible ones that you could get, but i was like its okay we can still research and ask the professors etc.
i asked them when can we meet to start working on the project many times and every time they just leave me on read or reply with we’re busy. i stopped asking them but would send them updates whenever i do something for the project (and btw i had to go to multiple hospitals/physicians and ask them for data about this project it was very time consuming and not easy at all to do alone especially as a person who has social anxiety)
i asked one of them after class on how far was he in the project he said that he didn’t even start working on it he had other stuff to worry about.
So i just waited until a week before the deadline and asked them that we need to practice for the presentation and they should email me what they wrote so i can put it all together. AND ALL 4 OF THEM RESPONDED WITH SOME SORT OF VERSION OF THIS “sorry we cant do anything because the case is too hard please do my part since you understand about the case more than we do” and that was the last straw for me i was already extremely stressed with alot happening in my personal life but also i had a ton of work and other projects.
I didn’t respond to any of their texts and just did the whole project myself since i already have done all the research and gathered everything i needed. I didn’t put their names on it because that was a requirement that you need to submit the names of each member of the group and i emailed the professor about the whole situation.
On presentation day, 3 out of 4 members of my group were present. the professor said “this group only has one student come up and present”. one of them said to the professor that we are actually 5 but one is absent. the professor said “only one student did the work so only he can present”
They were all FUMING. But it was genuinely one of the best presentations ive ever did i got a full mark and the professor said that she was very pleased with my presentation and project and she is very proud that i am one of her students.
After class all of them were screaming at me that i am a horrible person and calling me names, one of them started crying because this will cause her to fail and may lose her scholarship and i was like if you have anything talk to the professor, AITA?

2024.05.16 08:22 canamgroupchd How Indian Students Can Fulfill Their Academic Goals Abroad

In today’s world, Indian students are building interest in study abroad, it is becoming a widely popular choice among them. The opportunity of Study abroad offers a lot of benefits to international students, it helps students to grow personally as well as professionally. Study abroad helps students to build exceptional skills that are highly in demand such as flexibility, problem-solving skills, and more.
The reasons behind the increasing trend of study abroad are quality education, diverse cultural experiences, enhanced career opportunities, and more. However, starting a study abroad journey seems to be very challenging without any guidance. Let’s explore some different aspects and learn more about how Indian students can fulfill their academic goals abroad.

Understanding the Academic Goals

Before physically moving to a different country to study abroad students need to have a clear understanding of their academic goals. The Decision to study abroad can be a life-changing decision for the students. So, students need to be careful and plan in advance. Students should know what they want to achieve. It will help them in providing guidance throughout their academic journey.

Research About Destination

Every country has its unique specialties and different education systems. Students should conduct thorough research about the country they want to study in. In the research process, every aspect should be covered such as how many universities are there in the country, whether is there any financial aid available for Indian or international students by the government, stand of living, job opportunities, living costs, accommodation options, and visa regulations. Students should know everything about the country before stepping there as a decision like study abroad is not something you make overnight, it should be well-planned and well-researched.

Choose the Right Institution

After choosing the destination to study abroad, choosing the right institution according to the student’s suitability is very essential. Students should take enough time to conduct thorough research about the type of institution a country has. While deciding the university to study at, students should consider various aspects such as how many campuses are there, what are the locations of the campuses, whether does university provides scholarships to international students, availability of on-campus accommodation, tuition fees, support services for international students, faculty expertise, availability of desired course, duration of the course, reputation of the institution. All these aspects are very important for students when deciding the institution to study abroad.

Plan Early and Strategically

Students can achieve a successful study abroad journey only when they start planning early and strategically. Indian students should plan their journey in advance in order to avoid any kind of discrepancies and panic situations later. They must be clear about their academic goals, the country they want to study in, the institute, application deadlines, and more. Early preparation also allows students to address any potential challenges such as language proficiency exams (IELTS, TOEFL), standardized tests (SAT, GRE, GMAT), and document procurement.
Moreover, a well-planned approach to study abroad allows students to achieve their academic and personal objectives with the special opportunities presented by studying outside their home country. The approach of “plan early and strategically” allows students to embark on their study abroad journey with confidence and purpose that helps in maximizing the potential of this life-changing experience.

Adapt to the Academic Environment

Study Abroad is all about adapting to a new environment and takes skills like flexibility and open-mindedness. Students need to be well prepared to accept a new academic environment, teaching styles, classroom dynamics, and more. Being open to change will allow Indian students to overcome challenges instantly and also allow them to make themselves comfortable according to their surroundings. Indian students should incorporate effective study habits, and use available resources such as academic support provided by institutions, libraries, and online learning platforms to perform well academically.

Seek Support Networks

As an international student, dealing with the complexities of an unfamiliar education system can be very challenging, students should not continue the journey all alone. They should seek support from their mentors, fellow Indian students, or study support committees recruited by the institutions. Handling everything alone can be overwhelming for Indian students, seeking help will encourage them and they will have guidance whenever they are stuck in any situation. Students are advised to take part in extracurricular activities, and different societies, to build more meaningful connections.

Manage Homesickness

Most of the international students face homesickness as the biggest challenge in their journey of study abroad. It is very important for the students to manage homesickness as it can discourage them and distract them from their goals. Missing home and loved ones is natural, but making sure it doesn't come in the way of academic goals is a student's responsibility. They should stay connected with their family and friends through calls, video calls, and social media. Students should be more active in cultural clubs, and celebrations, at the university, it will help them in distracting from homesickness.

Stay Focused and Motivated

Maintaining focus and motivation amidst the distractions and demands of studying abroad can be challenging. Students should set realistic academic goals, break tasks into manageable steps, and celebrate their achievements along the way. Stay organized, prioritize your commitments, and seek inspiration from the academic pursuits and future aspirations. Remember that resilience, perseverance, and a positive mindset are key ingredients for academic success.

Conclusion

Study Abroad is a life-changing decision for Indian students that offers various opportunities for personal as well as professional growth. By understanding their academic goals, and conducting detailed research about the study destination and institution, Indian students can fulfill their academic goals abroad. Students can connect to Canam Consultants for any query about study abroad and get the solution to their worries.

2024.05.15 17:23 bigfanofclawdya I am late to pay the admission deposit, am I cooked?

I recently just accepted UofT's offer and turns out I couldnt pay the admission deposit on time as the deadline is supposedly today (May 15).
I emailed them days ago saying my family have a financial hardship and we are depending on a government-issued scholarship and we asked for an extension. They say they couldn't extend the deadline and if I choose to not to pay today I could try the appeal if my offer becomes expired, and appeals aren't guaranteed.
Has anyone experiencing the same issue? I am afraid that if my offer ever became expired and could never be appealed.

2024.05.15 16:51 Unlikely_Link_2929 Should I retake Phys 204

I took Physics 204 in fall 2023, I got a F for some reason. It wasn’t until last week that I went over the final with my professor and they said that I should’ve gotten a C instead of F. I’m really frustrated and mad over this situation, I lost scholarships and the test wasn’t even correct (there wasn’t any red marking on my final).
Originally I had planned to take Phys 224 and retake Phys 204 this summer but right now I’m unsure whether I should retake Phys 204. I don’t want to waste even more money because of Concordia’s mistake, but I’m really mad and want to aim for a better grade (abinader is teaching it online so it’s a bit unlikely to get a better grade). The deadline to withdraw is today, should I retake Phys 204 or withdraw from Phys 204?
Thanks !

2024.05.15 16:50 KingKillKannon May 12 2024 on Karkpost.com: "Marilyn Manson’s Legal Troubles Continue After Announcing His Comeback To Live Stage"

Link: "Marilyn Manson’s Legal Troubles Continue After Announcing His Comeback To Live Stage"
Marilyn Manson’s former assistant, Ashley Walters, is gearing up for a legal showdown with the controversial singer as her lawsuit against him heads to trial. Initially dismissed in May 2022, Walters’ claims of abuse against Manson were reinstated in December following an appeal. The saga now culminates in a jury trial set for June 2, 2025, in Los Angeles County. Despite attempts at mediation in December, the two parties failed to reach a settlement, paving the way for a public reckoning. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Walters’ lawyer, James Vagnini, expressed optimism about the forthcoming trial: “We are relieved to put the delays behind us and look forward to presenting all the facts to a jury next year. We trust that they will recognize the injustices suffered by Ms. Walters and send a clear message to all survivors of such egregious abuse.” Walters’ allegations against Manson paint a disturbing picture of her time as his personal assistant from 2010 to 2011. She accuses Manson of a litany of abuses, including biting her ear, sexual assault, physical violence, and psychological torment. Despite Manson’s legal team successfully invoking the statute of limitations in 2022, a tribunal’s intervention breathed new life into Walters’ pursuit of justice. Meanwhile, Manson’s legal woes extend beyond Walters’ lawsuit. In February, he received community service for an incident involving a videographer at a 2019 concert in New Hampshire. Having completed his service at a California nonprofit, Manson met the court’s requirements before the deadline. Amidst the legal battles, Manson recently made headlines with the announcement of his first tour since 2019. Teaming up with Five Finger Death Punch and Slaughter To Prevail for a summer 2024 tour, the tour’s announcement sparked controversy in light of the abuse allegations against Manson. In response to the criticism, FFDP guitarist Zoltan Bathory defended Manson’s return to the stage, citing fan demand and Manson’s absence from touring in recent years.

2024.05.15 16:05 korekiyo__ AITAH for not helping a lot with my friend's essay, even when it's due tomorrow?

Basically the title. My friend has been procrastinating on her art final essay and her final project for genuinely such a long time. We started this project in September 2022 and its due tomorrow, and she has hella gaps in her work because she procrastinates quite a bit. I understand the struggle of procrastination, honestly, I do it a lot myself, so I offered to help and she was happy.
I helped her out by pulling out the main features of each painting that she chose and suggesting some links to her theme/topic/arguement, whatever you want to call it. I wrote a couple paragraphs on one out of the 3 paintings that she needs to describe, but she didn't really like what I wrote since I'm not really well educated on her topic, and my statements were very general and vague in relation to her theme. I told her this before I started to work with her yet she still criticized my writing which I found strange since I'm helping her with what are essentially just suggestions. I also proofread the paragraphs that she's written so far and corrected her grammar in places where it needed correcting, as english isn't her first language. She can speak well but her writing has some minor mistakes. I also have my own art project and essay that I sent her as an example since I've completed it all, though I know that doesn't really count as work.
But the thing is, I have to work on the yearbook for my school, and I also don't have much time left. I'm really struggling to put this yearbook together as the people in my school aren't sending me the pictures that they have, and I'm working on it alone since nobody else wants the added pressure of working on a yearbook along with exams and deadlines (understandable).
She isn't happy that I'm not spending more time helping her as "It's the final and it's due tomorrow!", but she did the same thing with her second art project that we worked on from Feb 1 to May 2. I feel like she needs to learn how to deal with her deadlines herself and understand that there are consequences to not finishing her work on time and leaving it to the very last minute. I've been working on my essay since Oct 2023 since I had way more free time back then, as I didn't have any exams, and back then I suggested that she does the same. Now we have exams and she's really stressed, and I feel bad but really I have my own work to do and I did help her out a little. I'm also going to proofread her work right before she submits it since it's light and quick work, and basically the least I can do.
The only reason I'm asking here is because I can't tell if I should really be helping her more since this whole project and essay is what will amount to 60% of our grade and the other project that she didn't end up finishing was worth 40%, and she needs an A in art for a scholarship to her preferred uni. 2024.05.15 15:46 DullMoney6517 [HELP] Seat Reservation + Scholarship!!!

Hello,
I've been accepted and got a scholarship and they have set a deadline for me to pay in order to save my seat and scholarship. Yet I am still waiting for a bank loan to get approved. Have someone been in a similar situation, asked for a payment extension and how long have they given you to pay?
Thanks :)

2024.05.15 13:39 Jumpy-Position9501 Can I accept more than one offer for the same course and from the same faculty under different experts?

Hey Could someone pls let me know the way forward in case there are two offers from the same faculty- MDHS in my case. I currently have a conditional offer and I am going to apply for another application from the same faculty under a different supervisor. The enrolment deadline for the conditional offer is in June 2024. Is that whats known as the census date?
Also, I have currently accepted the conditional offer, I received 5 months ago (to avoid the offer lapse deadline) but that is subjected to a successful graduate research scholarship application as well (which in my case is still under process) Shall I defer my previous offer since I have no funding for my course. Will defering my previous offer affect my current application for another project under different expert?
