Star Wars Legacy of the Old Republic, a total conversion set in the Old Republic Era.

Introduction:

Greetings fellow Old Republic enthusiasts, it's been more or less a year since our last dev diary. In general, this year has been full of surprises, reworks and fun little modding shenanigans. First the 1.3.5 Update will drop in a couple of hours, we originally wanted to drop this update on the actual anniversary of lotor but the Stellaris Update and the Machine Age DLC threw us back a bit.
Nevertheless, we have many things planned for the future which benefit a lot from Machine Age changes, like potential Kilostructures (which fit Star Wars way better than Megastructures) or Crisis Paths for the Sith and Mandalorian Crusades. But before we lose ourselves in future content, what can you expect later today? For this, we split this Dev Diary into two sections, the initial one will focus on Technologies and Tech Tree alignment.

Technologies and the Tech Tree:

Hello everyone, allow me to introduce myself: I'm Sola. I've been working behind the scenes, handling internal testing, balancing tasks, and whatever else Bane decides to throw my way. For this LotOR update, I wanted to comb through the technology tree and revamp it. The aim? To ensure that, with the plethora of techs we've added, everything felt cohesive and choices felt meaningful.
Changing Progression Paths: One of the biggest changes we've made was to incorporate the bonus modifier technologies into the progression paths, instead of being an optional side-choice. This change helps with similar technology effects not clogging the limited technology choices, but also doesn't remove anything that would speed up tech progression. We've expanded upon the built-in 'gateway' system (the lock icon located at the bottom right of a tech choice). It should help indicate if a technology is a prerequisite for more than just the immediate following tech in the tree.
One example of the expanded gateway system, various technologies now show what kind of fields they advance, like the new Droids field which also has a unique research category on later technologies
A simple example of this new progression is: Thrusters 1 -> Thruster Improvement 1 -> Thrusters 2 -> Thruster Improvement 2, etc A more complex example is how laser weapons progress (image below): One of either Turbolasers 1 or Laser Cannons 1 needs to be researched to access the Laser Weapon Improvement 1 technology, and then for Turbolaser 2 or Laser Cannons 2 you need both the previous weapon level researched and the previous improvement technology researched. (You can completely skip researching either Laser Cannons or Turbolasers and still progress the other one to max tier.)
Technological Progress Example
Additional Starting Components: One significant change involved introducing a "level zero" version for components with multiple research direction choices. Currently, these include Missiles, Torpedoes, and Shield Types. This adjustment ensures that concussion missiles, proton torpedoes, and deflector shields are not a level ahead of other choices within the same tech tier.
Aligning Tech Tiers: We also addressed inconsistencies in the placement of technologies on the tree. The tier spacing between direct improvements along any given 'tech-progression-line' is now much more consistent. For instance, fuel extraction bonuses were all in the first few tiers, they are now spread out and you should no longer see a million of them early-game. Also, components like armor or weapons now feature all their normal (non-rare) upgrades on the same tier. This also included filling in missing technology or adding more component levels to ensure a smoother progression.
I don't want to talk about the Droids, but I have to talk about the Droids: They follow canon classes now. Changing them all around gave me a headache. Lore-heads, you're welcome Super-secret message just for those that read these: Tech tree coming soonTM
Some of the Droid Technologies, essentially they follow a formula of advancements in Droid Brains unlocking various subtypes which give minor bonuses
Beyond those methodical changes various technologies got new Icons, names and descriptions in our ongoing effort to adapt them closer to the Star Wars Universe.

Map Changes and Replayability:

Back to me, my major focus for this update was replayability and the sense of actually finding something out there. Lotor (which as you can see everyone spells differently) has a inherent problem, it's a mix between the full randomness of vanilla and the entirely static galaxy of total conversions like SW: New Dawn or the late Fallen Republic. While this is a change made by design after years of working on the previously mentioned mods, we were still somewhat limited by the clusterfuck which is the Star Wars Galaxy (various authors just adding things they find cool without thinking about what actually makes sense).
To this end, we essentially changed a bunch of minor things which might make Lotor closer to lore-inspired than fully lore accurate, which at least from our perspective makes more sense for a game like Stellaris. In general systems are still where they are supposed to be but might be a bit of miss aligned compared to the Star Wars map to allow for more natural choke points, exploration and better visual consistency. Beyond that we also placed some systems strategically over the galaxy which are never mentioned but are there, like pulsars and black holes which rarely if at all get mentioned in Star Wars media.
But what does that have to do with replayability? We essentially want you to have a playthrough where the most important systems are where you expect them think Coruscant, Kuat, Mandalore, but systems between them are somewhat randomized with a set cannon name. This means minor systems can be different sometimes it's a pirate base, sometimes it's an asteroid belt etc., yet it still uses the canonical position and name it's supposed to have. To this extent, we also created a dynamic spawning system for pirates (which now use Star Wars ships & components) as well as the space critters (which are usually renamed to more lore accurate versions).
Mandalorian Raiders hiding in a nebula in your neighborhood
With this we essentially checked all the boxes we set ourselves for replayability, expect one. What can we actually discover out there? For this, one of the major features included in this version is a new rare resource system. Essentially it's 40ish deposits of rare Star Wars substances which can be found on planets through the galaxy. This initial version mostly focuses on rare metals, gemstones, medical supplies, but the system can be expanded in the future.
All rare substances have unique deposits with special icons and effects, which vary depending on the category. Some of them even have further uses
One further use is for example the reworked Isotope-5 which can be applied to various ship systems or the rare Oridium which has beneficial effects on ship armor
While no where being close to the full update, those previews show some of the new and reworked features in Lotor, we hope you will enjoy them and want to thank you folks for sticking around for two years!
If you’d like to know more, feel free to head over to our discord or check out the mod page on the Steam workshop! And as usual a small shoutout to the two other RMG Total Conversions: - SW: New Dawn: Which should be updated soon - Star Trek: New Civilisations: Which recently added a Borg Crisis Path, resistance may indeed be futile!

2024.05.17 11:20 Ok_Aardvark_3669 When a video game wakes you up...and changes your life. (SPOILERS, Personal story)

Bear with me as I describe what amounts to an almost religious experience after finishing the game for the first time. SPOILERS and nigh-rambling. But I just have to share. I hope you'll stay a while a listen. :)
I tried playing Cyberpunk a couple months ago. Corpo Male, strong roleplaying. When the Johnny Silverhand stuff started, I got really frustrated and quit. I didn't like how the game saw fit to ramrod me into this extremely narrow story when I thought the experience was going to be more open than that. I wanted to play a character who tried to rise to the top of Night City's corporate world through double-dealing and backstabbery...and now all the sudden my character is dying and has this voice in his head.
I was not going to be able to tell the story I wanted to tell.
It was that ludonarrative dissonance thing, like in the Witcher 3, I always struggled to justify doing too many side missions, given that Geralt (as I was playing him) was very concerned about finding Ciri, so there just didn't seem to be time to get embroiled in all these other adventures.
But then I saw this randomly come across my YouTube feed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0gR_C0Pd1k&ab_channel=JekavacTV
Dude. I don't care how linear your story is...that's incredible. And dark.
I've been on hard times lately. While I was never serious about unaliving myself, it was a thought that bounced around in my head here and there at my lowest moments...and this clip just...it hit me. I always believed that self-deletion was deeply wrong, if only because of the harm it did to others who loved you. Whatever was on the table, that solution could never be entertained seriously. I just couldn't do it to my loved ones.
But I've also been struggling with who I am, who I'm supposed to be, what my purpose is. LOL big club I know.
But that video convinced me to give 2077 another try. If an ending could be that hardcore and meaningful...there must be something worthwhile in this game. So I rolled a Nomad Male, and began my love affair with this game. I didn't try to concoct a character so much as just try to play V as myself. I really related to his leaving the Bakkers, and going it alone. Also I moved around a lot as a kid, and my Dad was a hippie biker in his heyday, and a mechanic. So it felt true to form.
And then when you meet Jackie...I mean c'mon, who's more loveable than Jackie?
I really started to get into the game then. And it finally started to dawn on me what the game's story is trying to communicate.
I figured 2077 would devolve into a lot of cynicism, and exploit the violence and sex for cheap thrills. Or maybe it would lean on shock value and become doomeblackpill fodder. But CDPR ain't no slouches. Night City is an exaggerated snapshot of where we are now. And V's predicament is one many of us are facing: we want to make our mark on the world, but is it worth it to step on everyone along the way? Even if we're trying not to die? Or worse, just be erased. Many of us struggle with a voice in our head telling us we're fuckups. We're pussies. We're slaves. We're not worth the trouble.
At first I took Silverhand for an antagonist, essentially. A nasty SOB I had to keep at bay, given that my V was a mostly good guy who just wanted a family again. Especially after Jackie died...man his wake, and helping Misty sort through his things? That got to me.
And of course there's that lingering fear that, no matter how much Silverhand may begin to charm you or appear like he's on your side - he's going to take over. V is actually warned that eventually, Silverhand will just make a play to do just that.
So I was careful with him, but I wanted to know more, because he was such an intriguing character, and its easily one of Reeves' best performances. Period. So I invested in his conversations and eventually his sidequests. I also did what I could to help others in Night City who helped me. I was dying, so...it felt like a good time to be generous. Even if sometimes I had to off a bunch of gangoons with a shotgun. XD
Then as the story developed, I began to see that Silverhand wasn't quite the legend everyone thought. He was a man who had sorely, sorely screwed his life up - as well as the lives of many others. He even seemed to regret it.
I even told Silverhand I'd take a bullet for him, after receiving his dog tags. I never expected that kind of a scene between those two.
It became clear that Silverhand was a ghost, stuck between life and death, looking for absolution, trying to do something right for once. And V could help. So I did. We found Alt Cunningham. We took Rogue on a date. We got Samurai together for one last gig. We tried to track Adam Smasher down. I was putting trust in Johnny, and it was clear that he wasn't really wanting to kill V after all. But he had no choice.
I also met Panam, fell in love, and became a de-facto Aldecaldo. Was never sure about Saul, but Mitch and the others were just salt of the earth man. Great little storyline.
I helped Judy, all the way until she finally left Night City, and was glad of it. I do wish she was romanceable by dudes, but...she was still just too precious, I couldn't turn a blind eye to her problems, or her kindness. Her little story with the underwater town was so moving and unique...I just wanted to give that girl a hug man. What a sweetheart.
Then it all came to a head. V is on his last leg. That fateful scene where you make your big choice. Silverhand pushing me to just take the orange pill and let him do his thing, since he's almost in control anyway. Or I could testify against Yorinobu, and put my trust in Arasaka. OR, I could call on my new family in Panam and the Aldecaldos, but put them at risk.
This entire game I felt like every choice was vital. I felt like one slip up and I could mess up my chances of living, or even worse, do wrong by the people I cared about, just like Jackie. But I stuck to my guns, helped who I could...
Which is why I chose to lean on the Aldecaldos for help. Yes, I was putting them at risk. But even though I was beginning to trust Johnny, this wasn't his fight anymore. Much as Johnny might have a shot, I couldn't just give up now. And I certainly wasn't going to trust anyone at Arasaka.
The raid on Arasaka HQ with the clan was rough. Felt like all my choices had led here, and I worried that CDPR was going to punish me for my past choices, given that Night City takes no prisoners and few get out alive. I also knew that Adam Smasher was bound to appear. And having seen Edgerunners...I knew that wasn't going to be pretty. I saw how Johnny's story ended, for example.
There were rumblings about Saul and Panam still being at odds, and I figured the game was priming me for a betrayal or a horrific upset somehow. But I forged ahead anyway, because I was with my family. I didn't want power. I didn't even want to be a legend. I just wanted to live.
I watched Adam Smasher kill Saul horrifically, heard Panam scream in horror...and I zeroed that MFer. XD
Protip: even on Hard Diff, if you have the right perks and implants, you can be virtually unkillable. Only died once. Not sure if that's impressive, but it felt impressive. XD
My V wasn't sophisticated, but he was tough as nails and determined. I wasn't about to let everyone's sacrifice be in vain. Not Saul's. Not Jackie's. Not Goro's. Not Johnny's.
I informed Smasher of Johnny's resurrection just before blowing his brains out with Johnny's own signature gun. Even though Johnny was subdued by the bluepill, it felt like my last gift to him...even as I was moments from death.
Then the moment of truth...Mikoshi. I asked Panam for parting advice. She said "Just be yourself." Normally I'd roll my eyes at that advice but, something about it felt prophetic.
The final choice. Alt had used Soulkiller on me, in order to save me, but now it seemed I wasn't going to get my happy ending. I could go with her beyond the Blackwall, and finally let Johnny have my body - or I could return, but only have about six months, since the Relic had just caused too much damage.
It wasn't that hard of a choice. Leave everything and everyone I had grown to love behind for some bizarre virtual afterlife? Or let Johnny finally rest, and let V return to the world, Panam and the Aldecaldos? I chose life. As Johnny laid me down in the 'well', gently, he said "Goodbye V." And it felt like two friends parting ways. It felt like he'd made a change, and I helped him get there.
And boy was I rewarded. Even though I didn't have long, I had a chance to start again, and maybe even find another way to live. I had Panam, I had the Caldos, and I could finally leave Night City in the dust. "I have everything I need", V said.
This game absolutely SLAPS with hard choices. Over and over and over, you're reminded about how unfair the world is. But if you keep your head on, and ignore the power plays, stay true to your friends, and don't take no shit - you can get out alive. And not just you. The ones you love can too.
Of course, many of you already know all of this. So why did I bother posting?
All my life I've felt like maybe I've been too nice, or too careful, or too unwilling to take life by the balls. But one thing I've always been good at is helping people in need when I can, and always being available to my friends. But for some reason I always looked down on myself for it. I never felt like I was worth anything. I never felt like I was making a difference in the world. There were so many hard choices, and I felt like I never made the right ones. And that I'd just die one day, and be forgotten. Never having made my mark. Just like so many in Night City...
Some days I'd think "Maybe it'd just be better if I was never born." Because I was such a fuckup. A loser. A nobody.
But the person who helps people, who's there for others even when its inconvenient? That's the kind of person who can make a REAL difference. Fuck money. Fuck politics. Fuck fame. None of its worth a damn if you aren't doing right by others.
And that really came through in the end credits. I'm not ashamed to say I was in tears as all these people from my playthrough reminded me how much I meant to them. How much they cared, and that I mattered. All these people had happy endings because of me. I never let them down, not even when the grim reaper himself was breathing down my neck.
It was like all my IRL friends and family were speaking to me in those moments. And finally, FINALLY, I could see myself as they saw me: a man who cared and was trying to be there for them. A man that made a difference in their lives.
Yeah I didn't save the world, per se. But, really, that's how we save the world for real, lame as it may sound. The sheer contrast between the ending I had earned by just trying to do right by all the people in V's life, and that horrific ending I posted earlier was...stark. If you give up, then everyone suffers, not just you.
This game saw me, and reminded me who I was. It rewarded me for it, and I'll never forget it. For all its flaws, all its quirks and failings, I adored this game and all the effort that went into it. It's clear CDPR were trying to say something with this work of art, and boy was the message received on my end.
I can safely say I'm less likely to despair now because of it. I feel more alive because of it. I feel more prepared for the real world because of it. And I wanted to share my experience, if only to remind one person that:
We can all make a difference. Live for others, not yourself. It pays off. Even if it doesn't seem like it at the time. It's the only legacy worth leaving in this fallen world.

2024.05.17 11:12 HaihaeppchenOfDoom We need positive reinforcement for being nice in random matchup

Playing with random matchup is in many ways like rolling the dice: You might get a playeteam on your level, that try to coordinate, and have fun, emote/communicate using the UI, even if they are not on mic. You might get a high-level over-achiever that basically soloes the mission leaving you behind. Or you might get a teamkilling griefer that enjoys making other people miserable.
And there is no way to give meaningful feedback or influence with whom you match.
So, here comes the principal thought: Game progression should in at least one way be tied on how cooperative/nice/friendly you were with your random matchups.
An example of a game that did something like this is Dawn Gate. It was a MOBA that gave you a poll after each match urging you to rate the interaction with the non-friend-list members of your team. Not their skill in the game. You rated them as Nice or Toxic. If you were rated nice, you got more XP, and the grind to reach higher levels was significantly reduced. It is basically the only instance of a MOBA in which the community was nice.
Helldivers organically does some things very well in my subjective impression: There is quite a strong tendency for teamwork and cooperation. It is just sad that the toxicity of some sours the game for many players.
How to give positive reinforcement to players that are nice to their fellow helldivers? After each match, a poll should appear, urging you rate the cooperation index of your fellow helldivers. Noticeable this should NOT reflect their skill in the game, because that is already included in the mission rewards. At least one aspect of game progression should be tied to being rated positively, e.g., EXP gain being scaled up massively for nice players with the progression curve tweaked accordingly and more things gated behind level. (The same with Dawn Gate: no rating of people already in your friends list)
This of course needs to address the cases that players are not present during the entire match due to network, leaving, or being kicked. (Kicking a player should require the Host to give an indication as to why. imo)
There are many other things this rating could be tied into, especially the matchmaking. (My suggestion, feel free to ignore: New players could get preferably random-matched with people with high nice-ness ratio, toxic players get matched with toxic players.)
The core thesis is this: Positive reinforcement for displaying nice behavior should be rewarded, leading to an overall better game experience for everyone.

2024.05.17 11:11 maxikaz19 Does Bitfinex have fees?

Yes, Bitfinex does have fees associated with its services. The platform charges fees for various activities, including trading, deposits, and withdrawals.
For trading, Bitfinex employs a maker-taker fee model. The fees you incur depend on whether you are a maker or a taker in the trade. Makers, who provide liquidity by placing limit orders, generally incur lower fees compared to takers, who remove liquidity by matching existing orders. As of the latest fee schedule, makers can expect fees ranging from 0.1% to 0.0% depending on their 30-day trading volume, while taker fees range from 0.2% to 0.055%. These fees are subject to change, so it's advisable to check Bitfinex's official website for the most current information.
Deposits can also incur fees, though this depends on the method and currency used. For instance, cryptocurrency deposits are usually free, but some exceptions apply, particularly for small amounts. Bank wire deposits typically have a fee of 0.1%, with a minimum of $60.
Withdrawal fees vary significantly based on the currency and method. Cryptocurrency withdrawals often have a fixed fee in the respective currency, for example, 0.0004 BTC for Bitcoin withdrawals. Fiat withdrawals via bank wire transfer usually cost 0.1% of the withdrawal amount, with a minimum fee of $60.
In addition to these, margin funding and borrowing on Bitfinex come with their own set of fees. Lenders earn interest, which is paid by borrowers, and the platform takes a 15% fee on the interest earned.
For the most accurate and updated fee information, visiting the Bitfinex fees page on their official site is recommended.

2024.05.17 11:09 sporeboyofbigness A single-header message-passing library I wrote in C++

So I created a single-header message-passing library.
http://github.com/gamblevore/picomsg
I use it myself, and it works well for my needs.
The reason I created it, is because I couldn't find any that were small. For example there is MPI, but it is huge and complex. For certain people (me) this is a problem.
For example, you might want to create a small program that does a lot of things. If you need to include only a few large components, like a compression lib, a message-passing lib, maybe a XML/JSON parser, and each one takes 1MB, now you have a 3MB program, but your code might only take 50KB. It just seems wrong.
To many people this isn't an issue, but to some of us, its either something we do for fun, or an obsession. Not sure which. But there can be practical needs too, such as creating many small programs that run on low-end hardware.
If you are making a programming language and want to include PicoMsg as it's default message-passer, that is another good use-case. You don't want your language to get bloated by dependancies.
PicoMsg has C interface, but the internals are all C++. I had to write my own "ring buffer" memory system, as I was getting some kinda memory-corruption bugs I couldn't solve as it was buried under C++ vector classes somewhere. Once I managed memory myself, I was able to find the problem and solve it. In fact the C++ Vector classes would have been just fine. They are useful, but the abstraction can make diagnosing issues more difficult.
Anyhow... I hope someone likes it or finds it useful. I have this licence https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ as I feel unknown or unappreciated and it would be nice if... people with a positive attitude knew about me.
The source code's internals is a little wierd as I kind of went mad while writing it. Which is a common thing as writing message-passing code can drive anyone mad. For example I renamed my "locks" to "trousers" (because it is something only one person can wear at at ime, haha). I also inserted spiders into my comments.
I probably had too much fun making this thing. Or perhaps I needed to make it fun to counter how awful it was (at times) to debug the concurrency issues.
It is about 1000 lines of code, and probably under 500 lines of significant code. (excluding headers, the C-API wrapper, empty-lines, comments, etc). Would be nice to find users who appreciate it.
I'm happy for contributions... if anyone wants to add features. I'd be interested in a speed comparison... I could improve it's speed if it doesnt compare well. But my tests seem to show it running fast. Im not an expert in this area actually so Im sure people can do better.
The main limitation (At the moment) is that this runs only locally. It doesn't know how to connect across a network (just yet). It already uses socketpair() to create sockets to communicate locally, and send()/recv() so extending PicoMsg to work across a network won't be too hard to do. But I won't add this until either I need it myself, or if I had a lot of users... (or I got paid?). But I'm happy to accept this feature added by any contributors.
Thats all bye!

2024.05.17 11:09 derpy-noscope This game's writing is truly exceptional

I recently finished my first playthrough of this game, and I just wanted to come here to shower this game with praise.
My first run went rather well, there were some things I regret doing, but in general, I managed to pass my democratic reforms, I fixed the recession with a mixed economy, skyrocketed wellfare (wasn't able to reform the education system though), calmed down the unrest in the country, I got the Bluds to like me, I got Rumburg sanctioned by the ATO and avoided war, and did not get couped despite defunding the military, I purged the Old Guard, put in many equality reforms, and after all that I managed to get reelected. And I have to say, it was an amazing journey.
When playing this game, I felt genuine pain every time I had to make concessions, there were many choices were I had to thoroughly think about the consequences of each of my actions, weighed the pros and cons, and actually had to think about them for a while. I don't think any game before has made me think so much about the choices I was making.
This game is so well written that I genuinly feel patriotic towards Sordland to such an extent that at first I wanted my second run to be a sort of anarchist run where I tried to destroy the country, but I had to stop partway through it, because it pained me too much to now destroy the country that I had worked so hard for a couple of hours before it. This alone speaks volumes to how this game manages to immerse you into it.
Another signal of how well it is written, that near the end, I was genuinenly stressed out during the second election, but when I then finally saw the message that I had been elected to a second term, I physically celebrated, throwing my arms up and punching the air in joy, almost even yelling at 2 am, because I was just so happy that I got reelected. This a reaction that no game so far has been close to getting out of me, and trust me, I've played a lot of good games. But the moment I saw the message that I had gotten reelected, it washed away all the stress I had before, about maybe not being good enough, or whether my reforms were too drastic, and it felt great.
Then there's also the characters, and I have to say, each and every one of them is written to near perfection. Each character was written so well and with so much personality, it felt great. Despite there being a few people who were against me, there was almost no character I couldn't at the very least respect. For example, despite the fact that my whole presidency was in some sort of way dedicated to changing everything Soll had done, I could still see logic in a lot of his choices, and see why he was such a beloved person. With Kesaro Kibener, despite the fact that he was an extreme racist, I couldn't help but feel respect towards him, because he is written as an amazing politician, the way he speaks, and is able to manipulate people into doing what he wants (for example getting an NFP member to become the new governor of Bergia) is truly commendable.
Next are the charactars that I always enjoyed seeing. First, there is, of course, Serge, I invested everything into Armadine, and didn't take the bribe, so sadly I wasn't able to fund his kids education, but every interaction with his can simply be described as pleasent. Then there's also Iosef, I defunded the military, but in every interaction with him, it was clear that he truly cared about Sordland, he wasn't part of any faction, wasn't in anyone's pocket, and didn't really care much about politics, he just wants to see Sordland safe and thriving, and for that I can't help but have to utmost respect for him. And then there is of course Deivid, the true bro, every conversation with him was a true delight, always positive, a true friend, and was respected by everyone. When he announced that he would be resigning at the end of my first term, I actually felt sad to see him go, but I also knew that out of everyone he was the one that deserves his rest the most. All of these things once again show just how good the storytelling of this game is.
Also, I just want to say that some of the jokes and ridiculousness in this game are very good, partly because they are contrasted by the general tone of the game (I was laughing my ass off when I saw the line 'Bless the Raynes down in Anrica', or the suggestion of putting a man on the moon, and some of the very unsubtle names like Karlos Marcia and Alfred Kcirbuk director of 'Resident Karl').
Finally, I also quickly want to say that the worldbuilding of this game is some of the best I have ever seen. All countries, countries, etc. felt unique and interesting. I've spent quite some time just reading through the codex, reading every news article and the reports. The worldbuilding is truly top notch.
TL,DR: This game is written almost perfectly with great story, characters and worldbuilding and truly immerses you into it.
Anyway, now I'm going to do my second run, where I'm going to indulge in a bit of corruption, and eventually go to war with Rumburg. A morgna wes core!

2024.05.17 10:48 Holiday-Section2433 Does doing good at my H1 do me any good? (Pun not intended)

So for context I take 3H2 1H1, lets say hypothetically version A of me does extremely well for my gp and 3h2 and get 70rp but my H1 is extremely terrible like I got U. Compare it to another hypothetical version B of me who does extremely well for gp, 3h2 and the H1, like full marks for everything that kind. My question is is Version B of me at any advantage in terms of entering a university than Version A? Or are both versions A and B at equal academic standard in terms of comparison? Like do the uni people look at your other subjects out of your 70rp? And i dont mean PW i mean the unimportant one like in this case the 1H1.
The example i gave is a bit extreme but you get the idea.

2024.05.17 10:46 SE_Ranking Starting an SEO agency: Hard-Won Secrets for Success

We recently spoke with Anthony Barone, Co-Founder & Managing Director of StudioHawk UK, about the challenges of launching and running an SEO agency. Anthony shared his journey from being an SEO outsider to becoming the Head of the UK Headquarters for an Australian digital SEO agency. Throughout our conversation, we explored the challenges, opportunities, and strategies of starting and running an SEO agency in a competitive market.
In this article, we will draw from Anthony’s direct personal experience to provide key tips for starting an SEO agency. We’ll also cover some major pitfalls to watch out for.
Key tips for starting an SEO business:
The first steps to starting an SEO company
Starting an SEO agency goes beyond understanding SEO. It’s also about understanding the market, identifying competitors (and how you differ), and building partnerships. Anthony took these exact steps when launching his SEO agency in the UK. He believes everyone should apply them when setting up an SEO business.
Network to build a client base and partnerships
Start your SEO agency with networking. Become more active in the community and build relationships to find your first few clients. Join networking groups, attend business meetups and events, and start booking introductory calls with potential prospects.
Define your competitors
Research major players in your market, including competing agencies and potential partners.
Since the SEO field’s barrier to entry is pretty low, your chances of finding a mix of large agencies and smaller firms are high. Identify the ones you can emulate. Note their operations, capabilities, client portfolios, and how they position themselves.
You should also closely analyze the market you’re entering. When Anthony expanded his agency to the UK, he discovered one of the most competitive and knowledgeable markets, and the competition there wasn’t just limited to other agencies. The UK is home to many reputable brands and adept in-house teams. This means you need to know your stuff and prove your expertise. Anything less and you won’t have the opportunity to speak with or win the business of bigger companies.
Excelling in competitive landscapes like SEO necessitates brushing up on your field, your goal, and the value you bring, and devising a standout SEO strategy that resonates with your client’s business goals.
Differentiate your agency
StudioHawk initially set itself apart by skipping the traditional account manager middleman. The company instructed its SEO specialists to work directly with clients, providing expertise straight from the source.
There are also many other ways to stand out:
There are many opportunities to differentiate your agency according to its unique strengths and philosophies. In StudioHawk’s case, Anthony capitalized on his proven track record from Australia and embraced the Aussie way of doing things. So, use any assets and value-added services that set your agency apart.
Map out your ideal client
Here is why StudioHawk made the strategic decision to focus on the small-to-medium enterprise (SME) market (when launching in the UK):
Anthony’s team impressed SMEs by keeping things simple and transparent. They focused on clearly communicating their service and its effect on the client’s business goals and revenue targets.
Hiring and training new talents
Build your agency’s SEO team with candidates who align with your company culture and match your core values. Don’t just focus on technical skills. SEO expertise is an important skill but can be taught without much friction. Training culturally incompatible employees to have the right mindset and attitude is much harder.
Be patient and discerning. Consider the candidate’s energy and soft skills during the SEO interview process. Integrating candidates into your team is easier if they mesh with your philosophy and vibe.
Developing clear frameworks
Provide hands-on training and set clear systems and frameworks for your team. People need to be told what to do, what their job is, how to do it, and why they are doing it. Lack of structure leads to inconsistency, low-value work, and misalignment with client expectations.
Craft clear job descriptions with set responsibilities, metrics, and each role’s expected outputs. Your overall order of operations can be as loose or hardline as desired, but create a guidebook, rules, and criteria around it. Resources like these help new hires understand their role and responsibilities.
Always stay on top of SEO
Clients value experts, so you must constantly grow by following new trends and updates, and learning from industry leaders.
Make ongoing education and collaboration part of your core values. Here is how Anthony’s team implemented this:
The bottom line? Engage with the broader SEO community. Don’t work in isolation.
Share wins and lessons
Share knowledge internally. Learn from your colleagues through:
This allows team members to improve and learn from one another continually.
Adapt to search evolution
SEO is going to get harder. With EEAT, SGE, and algorithm updates, SEO professionals who want to make a bigger splash must work harder to improve their content and quality.
For example, SGE is already altering the SERP landscape. Its AI-powered responses include links to Quora and Reddit. This means you should consider socials as additional traffic channels. SGE snippets vary across industries, especially in ecommerce, indicating the need to create exceptional product descriptions and pages. Ads are also occupying more space.
A lot is going on. You must watch these shifts carefully while integrating your business into the overall marketing ecosystem.
Pitfalls to avoid when starting and running an SEO agency
  1. Don’t focus on things outside your control
Don’t compare yourself to others or set unrealistic goals. There will always be people smarter or better than you. Rather than dwelling on the unreachable, focus on factors you can control; the number of meetings you hold, the quality of your team’s work, developing efficient systems and processes, and so on.
You can always control your motivation and discipline. Your “why” for being in this business is also within your scope of influence.
  1. Remember your ‘Why’
Zero in on your core reason for starting your SEO business if you haven’t already. Not establishing a “why” prevents you from seeing the bigger picture.
Maybe your “why” revolves around creating the best agency out there. It could also be a less lofty goal, like designing a lifestyle business that helps you spend more time with your family. Whatever your core purpose is, identify it and reference it constantly.
Reconnect with your initial inspiration for starting your business. Then, focus on improving operations and steadily working towards your goals.
  1. Don’t blame clients if they quit
Take responsibility and learn from client churn. Losing a client can hurt, but blaming the client won’t do you any favors. There is always a lesson to be extracted from the situation, so take accountability.
Put yourself in the client’s shoes. Try to understand why they parted ways with you. Was there a failure in communication or reporting? Did they fail to see the value? Did the client need more meetings to stay informed and involved?
Conduct NPS (Net Promoter Score) or feedback surveys regularly. This can help you consistently improve and understand what your clients did and didn’t like.
  1. Know your numbers
Launching an agency is exciting, and cooperating with clients is a key aspect of the business. But it’s your business at the end of the day, and you need to run it that way. If you want your agency to operate for a long time and be successful, learn how to master its financial and operational aspects.
Wrapping up
Starting an SEO agency and running it successfully requires strategic planning, continuous learning, effective team management, and commitment to high-quality work. Thankfully, these are all aspects you can control. Focus on these elements to build a solid foundation for success.

2024.05.17 10:43 AutoModerator ChatGPT vs Gemini: Which AI Will Power iOS 18?

With the release of iOS 18 just around the corner, there's been a lot of speculation about whether Apple will finally integrate a powerful AI assistant into its mobile operating system. While Siri has been the default assistant for years, it's often criticized for its limited capabilities compared to competitors like Google Assistant and Alexa.
Recent reports suggest that Apple is in talks with both OpenAI and Google to bring either ChatGPT or Gemini to iOS 18. Both AI models have their own strengths and weaknesses, so it's hard to say which one would be a better fit for Apple's ecosystem.
ChatGPT is known for its ability to generate creative text formats, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc., and answer your questions in an informative way. It's also still under development, so it has the potential to learn and improve over time.
Gemini is Google's own AI model, and it's already been used to power some of Google's own products, like Search and Assistant. Gemini is known for its ability to provide factual and objective information, and it's also very good at understanding natural language.
So, which AI will Apple choose? It's possible that Apple could integrate both ChatGPT and Gemini into iOS 18, using each one for different tasks. For example, ChatGPT could be used for more creative tasks, while Gemini could be used for more factual tasks.
Ultimately, the decision of which AI to use is up to Apple. But one thing is for sure: the integration of a powerful AI assistant would be a major game-changer for iOS 18. It would make iPhones even more intelligent and versatile, and it would give Apple a major competitive edge against its rivals.
What do you think? Which AI do you think Apple should use for iOS 18?

2024.05.17 10:24 JaderGamed A few worrying stats

https://preview.redd.it/tvmwwkwtsx0d1.png?width=734&format=png&auto=webp&s=260459533a3541c1fe6afc158278f970dcfe10bd
So I compiled a few stats from the first 5 games, comparing the presumptive top 3 forwards from both the Oilers and Canucks. I know there have been arguably better players on both teams, but these are the forwards that SHOULD be the top 3 for their respective sides.
First off, man are the Canucks top players being outshot by the Oilers'. No surprise there as that's pretty much been the tale of almost all the games. Also, Drais is a beast with 11 points while Pettersson(misspelled in the table...oops)only has 2. But this is where things start to go south for the Oil.
All Oilers on this list are minuses despite them having collectively 4 more points. Meanwhile all 3 Canucks have positive +/- with Miller as the best of the bunch.
Another worrying trend is each Oiler has only 1 blocked shot. All 3 Canucks have 2 or more. Now I know that's not a super important metric and the Canucks aren't dramatically ahead. They're all averaging less than a block a game. However, I think it is a bit of a window into the character of each player. Far too many open shooting lanes and pucks getting to the net in the Oilers zone. I'm going to single out McDavid even though all 3 are guilty of this. McDavid is the captain. Good captains lead by example. If your captain, the best player in the world, drops down to block a shot then you better do the same next time you see a player on the opposing team winding up. I will say this about McDavid though, he has been hitting. He's 2nd behind Miller with 14.
I thought I would come away thinking that Drais is the best player in this series. He certainly has the most points. But he also has the worst +/- of all 6 players on the list, and less than a hit per game on average. In fact...all of Draisaitl's hits came in game 4. So 4/5 games he wasn't recored with finishing a single check. I'm sorry to say it to everyone, but Miller is the best player in the series...so far. 6 points, +4, 4 blocked shots, and 16 hits. Several of which were bone-crunching. In addition to that he's fantastic on draws.
So what needs to change for the Oilers to win? Hyman and McDavid need to keep hitting while Draisaitl needs to start finishing some checks. I get he's likely playing hurt, but he showed he can hit in game 4. He just needs to keep delivering that kind of performance. On offence I can't complain too much. Obviously Hyman and McDavid need to step it up a bit, though.
I will say that all three need to ramp it up a lot defensively. They also need to start getting into shooting lanes and blocking the odd shot. They're playing for their playoff lives now, so show some heart. I am also aware that they are only 3 players out of 20. But these are the leaders and they are letting the team down in a few meaningful ways.
They all are better than they have shown and in my opinion are at a point where they need to decide what their legacy in Edmonton is going to be.

2024.05.17 10:12 OleJastrau Thoughts on my masters thesis on prediction market forecast accuracy

I've spent the last few months writing my master thesis in economics focusing on prediction market forecasting accuracy. I was hoping to get some final thoughts or comments, since this is probably the place where the average knowledge of PM's is the highest.
My selling point is that there is a gap in the literature, a hole which is perfectly filled by the launch of Kalshi. Historically, most research on PM's focus on election forecasting, I'm interested in looking at how well they forecast economic variables, since I see it as a possibly cheaper, easier and more efficient way of forecasting than compared to traditional time series methods.
The previous research looking at how well PM's forecast economic variables are plagued by two issues. First off, there is some research looking at data from Economic Indicator Market (EIX) (Teschner et al. (2011) for example) which is specifically designed to forecast economic variables, however, it is a play money market, and as Rosenbloom and Notz (2006) show, play money markets are beaten by real money markets.
Secondly, the research I've seen looking at real money markets for economic variables primarily looks at future contracts markets (Snowberg et al. (2013) for example), which is problematic as a proxy for prediction markets, since the contracts are tied to actual physical delivery of the underlying good, and thus their prices lack the property of being interpreted as probabilities for the future, the prices contain other information than pure opinions about the future price of the underlying good. Also, in both of the examples I've included here, the papers compare PM forecasts with some sort of expert survey. So far there is no paper looking at how well PM's fare against time series forecasting methodologies (to my knowledge), and this is of interest IMO.
Thus, the launch of Kalshi is an opportunity to study real money prediction market forecasts of economic variables (which has hitherto not been done), and also compare these forecasts with some benchmark like ARIMA forecasts, as well as some more advanced methods, in my case machine learning methods, specifically LSTM algorithms. I look at two weekly markets, the one for US treasury 10Y yield and for WTI crude oil prices.
So, what do you think? Do you see any potential issues with this line of thinking? What do you think I should bring up as background? Any interesting theories on how PMs work so well?
Also, in my results, I find that for the 10Y yield market, the PM is significantly better at forecasting the yield than both the benchmark and a LSTM algorithm, this is somewhat surprising since the average dollar volume of the market in the period 2023-04 to today, is roughly $50. There is no data on number of market participants, only dollar volume. But using this as a proxy of market size (preferably I would want number of market participants), the results seem surprising. Such a small market but it is still remarkably good at forecasting 10Y yield. The overall MAPE for the PM is 1.76%, compared to 1.95% for the LSTM and 2.89% for the ARIMA.
For the WTI crude oil market the LSTM outperforms the other methods by quite a margin, the LSTM has a MAPE of 2.7%, compared to a value of 3.11% for the PM and 3.35 for the ARIMA.
Appreciate any thoughts, thanks!

2024.05.17 10:03 Soft_Community_7606 LinkedIn Ads Geo-Location Targeting

LinkedIn Ads Geo-Location Targeting
In today's globalized marketing landscape, reaching the right audience with your message is crucial for maximizing the effectiveness of your B2B marketing efforts. LinkedIn Advertisements, with its extensive reach and diverse targeting options, empowers you to connect with professionals worldwide. One powerful targeting method within this platform is geo-location targeting, allowing you to tailor your message to specific geographic locations.
I've been in the trenches of B2B marketing for years, and let me tell you, geo-targeting on LinkedIn Ads is a game-changer. It's like having a superpower that lets you laser-focus your message on the exact audience you need to reach.

Why Geo-Targeting Rocks My World (and Should Rock Yours Too):

Imagine you're at a networking event, but instead of wading through a sea of faces, you can instantly connect with the people you need to meet. That's the power of geo-targeting on LinkedIn Ads. Forget scattershot marketing tactics! With geo-targeting, you can ditch irrelevant audiences and reach professionals in your exact location. Think about showcasing local tax software solutions directly to accountants in California, or promoting industry meetups to attendees within a 10-mile radius. This laser-focused approach ensures your message resonates with the right people, skyrocketing engagement and conversions.
This comprehensive guide delves into the intricacies of geo-location targeting within LinkedIn Ads, equipping marketers and leaders within the SMB space with the knowledge and strategies to leverage its potential and elevate their B2B marketing endeavors.

Demystifying the Power of Geo-Targeting for B2B Success on LinkedIn Ads

Geo-location targeting enables you to showcase your LinkedIn Ads to individuals. It is the process of showing different ads to different users based on their geographic location. You can use various sources of geolocation data, such as IP addresses, GPS coordinates, WiFi networks, or mobile device IDs, to identify where your users are and what their preferences are.
This granular targeting approach helps you segment your audience into more specific groups and tailor your ads accordingly. For example, you can show different offers, languages, currencies, or images depending on the country, region, city, or even neighborhood of your users, ensuring your message resonates with their local contextand achieve your marketing goals in several ways.
According to a study, campaigns that utilized geo-targeting saw a 25% increase in click-through rates compared to those without. That's a significant jump in qualified leads for your business!
Here's why geo-location targeting deserves a prominent place in your B2B marketing toolkit:
https://preview.redd.it/4ghz2v3c1y0d1.png?width=12052&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3cf17984c010c748fff5450c3955c049fd7cbf5
  • Speaking Their Language (Literally and Figuratively): Geo-targeting allows you to tap into the cultural nuances of your target audience. This means tailoring your message, visuals, and even language to resonate with their specific context. Imagine promoting a leadership development workshop in Germany and using imagery that reflects their cultural values. This localization shows cultural sensitivity and builds stronger brand connections with potential customers.
  • Events Made Easy: Hosting a B2B conference? Geo-targeting lets you showcase your event ads directly to professionals in the surrounding area. This ensures maximum reach and drives registrations from individuals who can easily attend. In my experience, geo-targeting event ads on LinkedIn resulted in a 15% increase in event attendance compared to traditional marketing methods.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: The beauty of geo-targeting is the data it provides. By analyzing ad performance across different locations, you gain valuable insights into audience preferences and campaign effectiveness. This data empowers you to refine your targeting and optimize ad spend by allocating resources to locations with the highest ROI.

Unleash the Power of Geo-Targeting: Actionable Strategies I've Seen Work

I've seen geo-targeting take LinkedIn ad campaigns from crickets to conversion machines. Here's what successful campaigns have taught me.
https://preview.redd.it/j3tpqobd1y0d1.png?width=6026&format=png&auto=webp&s=34f3db374eb45bab473ed5fa1dfe7d09fa3f4862
Step 1: Know Your Ideal Customer Inside-Out
Just like a detective building a profile, you need to understand your ideal customer. There was a software company with targeted marketing managers by industry, then drilled down further by location. They found pockets of marketing automation experts in unexpected cities, leading to a surge in qualified leads.
Step 2: Master Your Targeting Toolbox
LinkedIn Ads gives you a location targeting buffet. Here's how others have used it effectively:
  • Countries: A travel company skyrocketed bookings by targeting specific European countries, then tailoring their ads to highlight popular local destinations.
  • Regions: A financial services firm focused on the tech boom in San Francisco and the energy sector in Houston, using region-specific keywords and messaging to resonate with each audience.
  • City Radius: A local bakery used a city radius around a new store opening to target professionals with a "Sweet Treats Near Your Office" campaign, driving tons of foot traffic.
  • Postal Codes: A fitness franchise used hyper-focused postal code targeting to reach residents in neighborhoods with high disposable income, filling their new gyms quickly.
  • Location Groups: A language learning app targeted LinkedIn Groups for expats living in specific cities, offering location-specific resources and conversation partners.
Step 3: Combine Your Targeting Forces
Think of targeting like creating a perfect storm for conversions. There was a B2B marketing agency who combined geo-targeting with industry targeting. They reached marketing directors in specific regions facing challenges with lead generation, offering location-specific webinars and case studies, resulting in a significant boost in qualified leads.

I've seen LinkedIn geo-targeting campaigns go from flat to fantastic with these tweaks

Here's what I've learned in the trenches:
  • Speak Their Language (Literally): Don't just translate your ad copy – localize it! A recent case study highlights the power of localization. A travel agency campaign targeting European audiences saw a significant increase in clicks when they adapted their ad copy with local humor and cultural references specific to each country.
  • Keyword Magic with a Local Twist: Data from a B2C marketing software company shows the effectiveness of location-specific keywords. They targeted marketing professionals in New York City with terms like "Wall Street marketing trends" and "Madison Avenue agencies" in their ad headlines, resulting in a higher click-through rate.
  • Testing Unlocks Hidden Gems: A/B testing is king! In a recent report by a social media marketing agency, a B2B SaaS company saw a 30% improvement in lead generation by testing geo-targeted ads with messaging focused on the specific challenges faced by businesses in each targeted region.
  • Ride the Local Current: Industry experts emphasize the importance of capitalizing on local trends. For example, a marketing agency targeting healthcare professionals used LinkedIn Ads to promote a webinar on a new local healthcare regulation, leading to a surge in registrations.
  • Stay Compliant, Avoid Drama: Legal restrictions can be a hidden pitfall. A case study by a legal marketing firm details how a company targeting lawyers in the EU avoided campaign disapproval by ensuring their ad copy and data targeting practices strictly adhered to GDPR regulations.
Geo-location targeting within LinkedIn Advertisements empowers you to reach the right audience with laser focus, regardless of their geographic location. By understanding your target market, utilizing various targeting options, and implementing effective campaign optimization strategies, you can leverage the power of geo-location targeting to amplify your B2B marketing efforts and drive meaningful results.
Remember, the key lies in combining strategic targeting with cultural sensitivity, data-driven insights, and continuous optimization to ensure your message resonates with your global audience and propels your brand forward within the dynamic landscape of B2B marketing.
By following these strategies and leveraging the insights from the video, you can craft geo-targeted LinkedIn Ads that resonate with your target audience and drive significant results.

2024.05.17 09:42 slugma123 39 [M4F] Portugal/Online - Are you tired of ordinary run-of-the-mill men? Sex chats? Snoozefests of words? Being asked for endless photos time and again? Stop. You deserve better. For once, you can meet a truly cultured man with whom to have amazing dialogues about pretty much anything.

Hello, whoever you are on your side of this screen.
Predictability and ordinarity bore me. The idea of casual sex makes me more asleep than a Snorlax. I also don't want to be asked "How are you?" for the millionth time. And photos - well, one is always more than enough.
I'm sure I'm not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't seek anything ordinary, either. I'm just an author and researcher currently living in Portugal, and looking for someone new and truly unique to inspire me. We can talk about pretty much anything, plus you can learn a ton of super unusual but cool stuff if you're also into culture, literature, legends, stories, etc. What else can I tell you about me? Well, I'm often told I'm the most interesting person people have ever met, but let's go here for ten groups of facts about me and my life:
1- I've travelled to over 100 countries in search of knowledge, my favourite place being the streams of water and forests in the north of the Pyrenées, where I once placed my feet in the water and meditated for days.
2- I do not have a favourite book, but I do feel many marked my life. For example, Ovid's "Ars Amatoria" (as a teen), Cicero's "De Senectute" (as an adult), the "Ramayana" (as someone eager to explore other cultures), the "Nag Hammadi Library" (as a person interested in almost-lost religious texts), etc.
3- I once met a really amazing woman, we were together for 10+ years, we never married but we both knew neither of us was going anywhere else, I lost her in 2014 (and I don't want to talk about it), and I'm perfectly comfortable being single.
4- I've published over 80 books, between my real name and various pseudonyms, with the most sold having been top 100 on Amazon, and the least sold still stuck at under 10 copies (and it's intentionally supposed to sell very little).
5- In college I studied Computer Science, Psychology, French "LLCs" and Classical + Medieval Studies, but among my many passions you can also count Theology, Philosophy, Art, Mythology, Classical Music, Western Mysticism, Languages, etc.
6- I dislike social media and photos of people. I hardly ever take photos of myself or others, but I do have an enormous collection of photos I've taken around the globe, where I mostly tried to eternalize places and moments.
7- Apart from writing, I spend most of my free time as a volunteer for projects related to Culture, Children, and Mental Welfare. I also tend to donate to charity on a monthly basis, because I feel we should try to spread to others the good things we have in our lives.
8- Although I'm 39, I'm perfectly okay talking to much younger, or much older, people, because I feel they can also teach me a lot of things that I'm not necessarily familiarized with. And, in fact, one of my biggest pleasures in "real" life is talking to random people and learning new stuff from them.
9- I survived cancer and meningitis. I'm 99% okay, with the exception of a small physical problem most people never even notice.
10- I was recently "rejected" from a buddhist monastery for health reasons, since it seems my constant need for medication for an auto-immune disease would contrast with the simple life their monks need to have. So, yeah, that's mostly why I'm back online and posting this message.
So... if you are indeed tired of the usual messages and conversations, write me. Maybe you are indeed what I seek.

2024.05.17 09:36 MrToxin How much different were the first 10 Chapters in beta as opposed to now?

I know that due to feedback, some of the story was rewritten, like Ling Yi being turned into Dianthus, and Light Chasers being made villains instead of friendly, so probably Dietrich was supposed to be playable initially, as well as Beatrice.
I wonder if there was anything else that was changed, so that's why those Chapters feel so disjointed, as if they're not connected with each other, and for example Mauxir appearing completely out of nowhere in the Towers chapter.
Also since the old writer left after Ling Yi retcon, I wonder who even rewrote those 10 chapters, as well as writing Mingdeng Jie and Fogbound Dream?
The new writer is someone named 'Brother Kang', and he came between summer patch and Tess patch, which is exactly when the game turned into full harem mode. That is also when they lost their 'operations department' who was preventing them from going full harem.
So since there are many CN players on this sub now, I'm wondering how much of the story was different compared to now, was it like Wuthering Waves rewriting 90% of the story in beta, or was it less than that?

2024.05.17 09:33 sexotantrico Buddha nature and the christian soul

I just asked this on too Can mystic Christianity be seen, at least metaphorically, as very Buddhist when it comes to the soul? And I mean beyond reducing both to superficial pseudo-non-dualism.
Imo at least, if you compare the idea of the Buddha nature of everything to Augustine's idea of the soul and the hierarchy of beings, Eckhart's notion of the divine spark and maybe even Teilhard de Chardin's view on christianized evolution and the omega point, and take the soul (and spirit?) to be, in this case, the expression of true immortal, unchanging, ego-less, sin-less and attuned to god's nature agency (sin and vice, in this case, not being an actual existence, but a departure/privation of (falling away from) true (divine) reality (through illusion? [of the self??]), it seems to me that thinking that Soul = Agency = Buddha nature isn't that far fetched. You can take a stone and shape it into a brick and convince yourself that it is a brick/house/part of a house, but the stone, much more fulfilled than us in its integration with emptiness (the radiant kind of Vajrayana), is not under this illusion, and is, within itself, fully realized and attuned to god's will, even if our higher level of agency gives us the choice to pervert it's immediate purpose, as in using it to kill an innocent for example. Now, for me, the most difficult part of this framework is to clearly differentiate the dharma's and the buddha nature's relationship with the will of God. If you take into account the radiant aspect of the emptiness in Vajrayana, assuming that, to align yourself with your divine purpose and act accordingly (dharma), you have to "empty" yourself of the illusionary ego-driven nature of the world, "integrating" (the process is actually one of disintegration) with the divine spark that is the soul, or the divine unadulterated portion it, it makes sense. Maybe?
Does it? What do you guys think?

Lucky Creek Casino Bonus: Welcome Bonus T&Cs Explained

  • Bonus Amount: 200% up to $7,500 and 30 free spins
  • Promo Code: 200GETLUCKY
  • Wagering Requirements: 60x bonus
  • Min/Max Deposit: $20/$3,750

  • Expiry Date: None
The Lucky Creek bonus terms are straightforward. If you’re already familiar with online casino bonuses, you’ll have no problems getting to grips with this one. There’s a potential $7,500 up for grabs, which is extremely generous. Not to mention the additional 30 free spins to get you off and running.
You can use your bonus funds to play any game outside of the live casino. The minimum deposit amount of $20 is reasonable, and there’s no need for fiddly opt-ins, as the bonus is credited automatically. However, simply must highlight the wagering requirement of 60x your bonus amount, which is definitely on the high side.

Other Lucky Creek Casino Promotions

The number of accessible Lucky Creek casino bonus codes and promotions varies throughout the year. Look out for extra special offers during holidays, though you’ll usually find at least six or seven rewarding bonuses regardless of the date. Here are some of the standout examples.

Lucky Creek Free Spins

The first promotion to note is a Lucky Creek no deposit offer. Take note that this free spins bonus is only valid for the Golden Wolf slot. In addition, you can only withdraw a maximum of $100 worth of winnings from these bonus spins. Regardless, you can secure 55 Lucky Creek free spins with no deposit required, just by using the promo code NODEPOSITB55.
It’s also possible to earn 66 free spins every Monday by depositing regularly at the end of the week. Make six deposits between Thursday and Sunday, or simply fund your account with at least $200 during this time to qualify.

Lucky Creek Free Chips

While there’s no Lucky Creek casino free chip promotion available presently, there are still many other offers to claim. Should a free chips bonus launch at the casino, we’ll hastily update this page.

Lucky Creek Happy Hour

This offer is promoted as a daily Happy Hour. But despite the name, this is actually a period of four hours, from 6am to 10am EDT every day of the week.
If you’ve made a deposit that day, you’ll gain 50 free spins to use during the Happy Hour. Claim these for seven straight days and you’re also eligible for a prize draw. Potential rewards include free spins, free chips and even a gift basket.

Lucky Creek No Deposit Bonus

If you’re seeking a Lucky Creek casino free chip with no deposit necessary, you’re out of luck. Although there is a promo code NODEPOSITB255 advertised, this is actually a deposit match offer. The code is good for a 255% bonus.

Lucky Creek Loyalty Program

Although it’s not strictly a Lucky Creek casino bonus, the loyalty and VIP program is worth mentioning here. By joining the Genesys Club program, you’ll earn reward points at several online casinos, including this one. There are five tiers in all, with various perks on offer the higher you climb.
For instance, on your birthday, there’s a special deposit match reserved for you if you’re at the Newbie and Bronze levels. However, those at Silver, Gold or Platinum will receive a free cash bonus of $75, $150 and $250, respectively. Other rewards include exclusive invitations to tournaments and events, dedicated customer support and weekly deposit match deals.

Lucky Creek Refer a Friend

Unfortunately, there are no Lucky Creek referral codes available to reward you for recruiting your buddies. If that ever changes, you’ll find out here on this page.

Mistakes to Avoid when Claiming a Lucky Creek Bonus

With so many Lucky Creek promo codes to choose from, it’s crucial that you don’t get confused and make a mistake. Here are some top tips to ensure you get the maximum possible value from your bonuses.
1. Failing to deposit the minimum amount
Deposit match offers require you to add a specific amount of money to your account in order to qualify. You might think you’re getting a 300% bonus on your $10 deposit. However, you’ll actually receive nothing if the Ts & Cs set the minimum amount at $20.
2. Choosing an offer for the wrong games
Many bonuses feature conditions that determine which games you can play. Free spins may be restricted to specific slots, for instance. While a deposit match bonus might exclude live dealer games.
3. Watch out for playthrough requirements
Sometimes called “turnover requirements”, or simply “wagering requirements”, you won’t be able to withdraw money until you’ve met these. There’s usually a multiplier specified, such as 35x the bonus amount. In that example, $700 worth of play is required to clear a $20 bonus.
4. Claiming multiple bonuses
Unfortunately, you can’t juggle several Lucky Creek bonus codes at once. You’re only allowed to claim one welcome bonus, naturally. But if you’re still in the process of clearing the wagering requirements on a bonus, you can’t activate a second promo code.
5. Not depositing enough money
Lucky Creek has a high minimum withdrawal limit of $100. If you deposit a small amount, claim a bonus, clear the requirements and finish with less than $100, you can’t actually withdraw your winnings.
6. Overlooking expiration dates
In most cases, you’ll only have a fixed amount of time in which to meet the wagering requirements of a bonus. What’s more, when you do succeed, the bonus credits awarded may expire in as little as seven days.

  6. You may need to wait 24 hours for the Lucky Creek verification process to complete.

Lucky Creek Casino Withdrawal Process: Rating 7/10

Ready to cash out your winnings? You’ll be pleased to learn that the Lucky Creek casino withdrawal process is quite simple. The minimum amount of $100 is a little high compared to other online casinos, but on the flip side, withdrawal times are comparatively fast.
For the most part, you’ll receive a card payment within 48 hours. Crypto transactions are usually wrapped up in a matter of hours. However, while Lucky Creek withdrawals are processed daily, no payments are made on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. As such, a little patience is required at weekends.
Here’s how to request a payout.
  1. Log into your Lucky Creek account.
  2. Visit the cashier page by clicking on the “Deposit” button.
  3. Complete the verification process, if you haven’t already, otherwise you will not receive any funds.
  4. Click on “Withdrawal” to initiate a payout.
  5. Choose your desired cash out method and follow the prompts on your screen.
  6. If you request a withdrawal before verifying, you must complete that process within 14 days. If you fail to do so, the money will return to your account.

Lucky Creek Casino: Rating 7/10

In this section of our Lucky Creek review, we’ll analyze the various games on offer.

Games Selection

The Lucky Creek game library consists almost exclusively of slots. There are just under 300 to choose from, supplied by developers like BetSoft, Rival, Saucify and Genii. It’s not the biggest collection, admittedly, but there’s a broad enough selection of themes to keep most slots fans satisfied.
While the games here are taken from some respectable software companies, none of the real industry giants are present. Don’t expect to play slots from the likes of Pragmatic Play, NetEnt or Play’n GO, for instance.
If classic table games are more your thing, there’s a small collection of nine RNG titles to choose from. Unfortunately, these are all variations of roulette and blackjack, so it’s not possible to play craps or any form of casino poker. However, there are a dozen keno and video poker titles to enjoy.

Live Casino

There is also a simple live casino on offer at Lucky Creek, with a total of eleven games to choose from. In addition to various forms of blackjack and roulette, you can also play baccarat here.
Although it’s not the most expansive live dealer casino you’ll come across, the games are of the highest quality. They’re provided by Evolution, widely-regarded as the number one supplier of live casino games in the world. Expect charming and professional hosts, along with reliable streams in high definition.
Don’t forget that you’re not allowed to use Lucky Creek bonus codes to play live dealer games.

Casino Features

Lucky Creek is one of the most simple online casinos around. You could argue that “less is more” but we’d still prefer to see the addition of a few key features. It’s not possible to play games in demonstration mode, for example. That is always a great way to familiarize yourself with the rules of a new game.
Although there is a search facility, accessible by clicking the “Open Filters” button, there are no quick links. The ability to easily view titles from a specific provider, or games with certain features, would greatly improve the casino’s design.
As it stands, you can only drill down into the different types of game, i.e. slots, table games, poker or “other”. When the overwhelming majority of the game library is made up of slots, filtering by “slots” doesn’t feel especially useful.

Lucky Creek Poker: N/A

Lucky Creek is a trusted online casino, however its poker selection is too limited to warrant a fair evaluation. While it offers a handful of video poker titles, you cannot play games like Texas Hold’em or Omaha in tournaments or cash games.
We hope that Lucky Creek expands its poker category in the future, and when it does, you can expect to find a thorough review here.

Lucky Creek Sportsbook: N/A

Lucky Creek is just an online casino, meaning there is no sportsbook available. Should the situation change in future, we’ll be the first to update you.

Lucky Creek Payment Methods: Rating 8/10

There aren’t as many payment methods at Lucky Creek compared to the best gambling sites, but the needs of most players will be met. Crypto deposits and withdrawals are a very welcome addition, even if there are no eWallet options.
Payment Method Deposits Withdrawals Fees Payout Speed
Visa None Up to 5 days
Mastercard None Up to 5 days
Bitcoin None Same day
Money Transfers N/A N/A
Wire Transfers N/A N/A
Cheques N/A N/A
ACH Transfer N/A N/A

Lucky Creek Design and User Interface: Rating 7/10

It’s fair to say that Lucky Creek isn’t the prettiest of casinos, with its predominantly brown color scheme. It’s a simple but fairly effective design, which is identical on both mobile and desktop, ensuring seamless transitions between devices.

Desktop Experience

Everything you need to steer your way around the site is found in a classic navigation menu on the left-hand side of the page. A few additional options, including information about responsible gambling, can be found by scrolling to the site’s footer. Overall, the site functions adequately to appease users.

Mobile Experience

Whether you’re using the mobile site in your browser, or mobile-based casino apps, the design is indistinguishable. This applies to both the overall look-and-feel, as well as the practical aspects like the registration and withdrawal processes.

Lucky Creek Customer Support: Rating 9/10

In the unlikely event of a problem, getting in touch with the customer support team is a doodle. There are three accessible channels, all of which are staffed 24/7, and you’ll find the agents really pleasant to deal with.
We reached out via live chat and asked several questions, including some about the terms and conditions of the Lucky Creek no deposit bonus. All of our queries were resolved promptly and the support agent was extremely friendly.

Lucky Creek Licensing & Responsible Gambling: Rating 9/10

Like many respectable online gambling companies based offshore, Lucky Creek has a license from the Curaçao Gaming Control Board. As such, you can rest assured that a trusted regulator is observing the business, ensuring that it’s carrying out industry best practices.
This means your funds are safe, the games are fair and there are several responsible gambling tools available if you require them. These are as follows:
  • Daily deposit limits
  • Monthly deposit limits
  • Self-exclusion

2024.05.17 09:23 hiimparth Free API for Moderation

Hey 👋
Just shared this in nocode but incase anyone isn’t in that subreddit:
Not sure how many people know this but thought I would do my duty to share this amazing API.
I’ve been using Purgo’s free profanity check but it does lack because it is based on string matching, compared to modern workarounds or needs.
For example, I am building a DJ platform with messaging and there will be messages with profanity and slurs etc just because there are names of songs with such and DJs will need to at points reference songs or albums etc.
OpenAI offers a free moderation endpoint which IS AMAZING that they are doing good and helping keep platforms as safe as possible for everyone. Using AI, it performs amazing and knows how to tell between song names for me compared to straight inappropriate messages.

2024.05.17 09:20 Parking_Professor_18 How to start learning linux

Hi all,
recently decided to switch to Linux, but compared to Windows where I know the operating system well on Linux I'm a noob.
I've read somewhere that on linix everything is a file and the user can modify everething.
How to start to study the system? what are the basics and how do things work compared to a windows system?
for example, what does the fact that the disks must be mounted mean? Which are the basic system files?

2024.05.17 09:15 hospitality_minds 13 Reasons Why Website is Important for Your Business Growth

In today's digital competition building a website for your business has become of utmost priority. Having a strong online presence is essential for the success of any business. Even if you are a small business owner, having a website helps you tremendously to get attention from large audiences. A key component of this online presence is a well-designed and functional website. Websites serve as the virtual storefronts of businesses, providing a platform for showcasing products, services, and brand identity to a global audience.
In this blog post, we'll explore the various ways in which building a website can significantly contribute to the growth and success of your business.
  1. Increased Visibility and Reach
Having a website allows your business to be discovered by a larger audience. With billions of searches conducted on search engines like Google every day, a well-optimized website can significantly increase your visibility online. By implementing effective search engine optimization (SEO) strategies, such as optimizing keywords, meta tags, and content, your website can rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs), driving more organic traffic to your site. For example, a local bakery that invests in SEO can attract customers searching for "best bakeries near me," leading to increased foot traffic and sales.
  1. Establishing Credibility and Trust
A professionally designed website is a powerful tool for building credibility and trust with potential customers. In today's digital landscape, consumers often research businesses online before making a purchase decision. A well-designed website with clear navigation, compelling content, and positive customer testimonials helps establish trust and confidence in your brand. For instance, a law firm with a professional website featuring client testimonials and case studies can instill confidence in potential clients seeking legal services.
  1. 24/7 Availability and Convenience
Unlike traditional brick-and-mortar stores with fixed operating hours, a website allows your business to operate 24/7, catering to customers' needs anytime, anywhere. Whether it's browsing products, accessing information, or making purchases, customers appreciate the convenience of accessing your business online. With the increasing use of mobile devices, responsive web design ensures that your website is accessible and user-friendly across all devices, further enhancing the convenience for mobile users.
  1. Cost-Effectiveness and Scalability
Compared to traditional marketing methods such as print ads or television commercials, building and maintaining a website is a cost-effective way to promote your business. With the ability to reach a global audience at a fraction of the cost, websites offer unmatched scalability as your business grows. Additionally, the flexibility of websites allows for easy updates and modifications to accommodate changes in your business or industry, ensuring long-term sustainability and growth.
  1. Marketing and Customer Engagement
A website serves as a central hub for your marketing efforts, providing various channels for engaging with customers. Through content marketing, social media integration, and email marketing, businesses can effectively promote their products or services, engage with their audience, and drive conversions. For example, an e-commerce website can utilize blog posts, social media shares, and email newsletters to showcase new products, offer promotions, and encourage repeat purchases, fostering customer loyalty and retention.

2024.05.17 09:10 Berkosbobo My Experience with the AOC Q27G3XMN Monitor

I've seen a lot of mixed reviews about this monitor, so I wanted to share my own experience. Previously, I used the Dell 2721DGFA. The IPS glow on that monitor drove me crazy, and the contrast ratio was terribly low. I could never get the colors, especially red, to look right. So, I decided to upgrade to something that would give me true HDR and better contrast. I was torn between the LG 27GR95QE-B and FALD panels. However, the coating on the LG was terrible, and the brightness was unacceptable. QD-OLED models are either unavailable or outrageously overpriced, so I went for the AOC Q27G3XMN.
There is a noticeable red tint on this monitor, but reducing the red value to 45 worked for me. I have the BK model, which doesn’t have an sRGB clamp, so I use novideo_srgb (same as I did with the Dell). The Windows 11 HDR tool was essential for HDR setup. If I want to use the sRGB color space, I disable HDR in Windows and turn off local dimming on the monitor (it remembers the local dimming setting for HDR and non-HDR modes). Compared to the old Dell, the contrast is night and day.
This monitor is paired with a PC meant solely for gaming, so I tested it with Diablo 4 first, as I was most concerned about dark smearing in such a dark game. While there is some ghosting, it didn’t bother me, and the trade-off for better contrast is more than worth it. I've seen concerns about input lag with VRR and HDR enabled, and I'm highly sensitive to input lag, but I didn’t notice any. VRR flickering, often mentioned, is present but very rare; for example, in Diablo, I cap the FPS at 65, and it occasionally appears when I open the map but is hardly noticeable.
Viewing angles do change the color and contrast, but I resolved this by raising the monitor (I have a desk arm) compared to the Dell by 2cm and tilting it 1-2 degrees upwards, so my eyes are directly in the center. I sit at an arm's length distance from the monitor.
HDR performance is excellent. Due to Windows 11’s implementation, it needs to be configured for each game, but the pop and brightness during explosions provide fantastic immersion. I also tested HDR video, such as this one. Blooming is negligible with ambient room lighting and the local dimming set to medium. Other demos also look fantastic, with impressive colors, contrast, and brightness. I was amazed by the black levels of this panel; I’d say it’s 90% of an OLED, if not better. My wife, who uses an OLED for work but isn't technically inclined, couldn't tell if it was an OLED or not.
Oh, and the price was €450, which is significantly higher than what it sells for elsewhere in the world, but I don’t think I could get anything better for the same price or even €200 more. The OSD controls are awful, but once set up, you don’t have to mess with them much.
