2024.05.31 21:44 Natural_Ad8811 how I was scammed by the Universe Guru. My experience.

hi ladies. thank you so much for creating this thread. I've been debating writing this post for a long time but it's been on my heart and my mind for a while so I am going to share my experience with the Universe Guru. I think that after I share this, I can finally move on energetically instead of constantly checking this thread, and move forward with my life completely mina Iran free.

I found Mina's content at a very vulnerable time in my life.... and honestly now looking back it is obvious that she profits off women's vulnerability. when I saw this woman on the internet talking about how "it gets to be easy" and "100k months are easy" and what not and I was mesmerized. so I spent a while just watching her livestreams then I decided to buy the $222 drop the struggle course in like feb '22 when I had no job or no money, I literally had to take out a credit card to get it, which is ok to mina because she actually promotes that (which I am now realizing is all a marketing tactic for her followers to break the bank in order to purchase her subpar over priced courses).

Anyway so I got the end the struggle bundle and it was ok I guess. my life was still a struggle, but I guess now that I had Mina's 2 hour live streams to binge on as a distraction, I just ignored it.

maybe if I get millionairess then I will unlock the secret to making boku amounts of cash In my business like mina. I thought.

So next I got the millionaires course for $333 I think and was SEVERLY DISAPPOINTED. I thought to myself "maybe if I play it in the background of my life, as I am growing my own online business it will change things" and once again, no results came from her courses but at this point I was sucked in and following her teachings like gospel even though my intuition was telling me something was off, especially now that I started to get a bunch of courses when she was doing flash sales (once again using a credit card bc I was still on a warehouse wage and my business wasn't profitable at all at that time).

In her course content she would often
1) contradict herself
2) spend the whole time talking about her life instead of giving actual teachings
3) record a zoom call with a bunch of women who were clearly going through a hard time in life, asking her questions and her making it a module. which no shade or disrespect to the women, I just found it quite annoying how I paid all this money to be taught by Mina yet I am met with conversations from women who are seeking the same teachings as I am!
Things started to feel really icky for me but I just still followed her blindly because I was completely blinded by the "if you don't have results yet its because there is still a lot of inner work to do" marketing tactic.

I think I have about 10-12 of her courses, I don't exactly know because I haven't been on my course dashboard for months and I don't plan on ever logging back in. Ironically the only course I got value from was intoxicate, which was one of her lower priced offers at the affordable price of $333. but the biggest teaching in there is make your man feel like a hero, and honestly this information can be found in any relationship experts book. But anyway... my final straw was WIFED. I used pretty much the last bit of the life insurance I got from my dads passing (who ironically was trying to talk me out of going to the Dubai intensive before he died when I told him about it because he looked her up and said she was an obvious scammer) to buy the course.

sidenote: I think my dad - from the other side - protected me from going to Dubai (I live in America) because I was in such deep grief from my dads sudden death that I didn't have the time or energy to plan or pay for my accommodations and I didn't end up going (I emailed the team that I couldn't come, they ignored me then I sent another email and they finally responded giving me a 1111 credit for what I already paid for the course- I got CASH which was a Total waste of my time). but Im glad I didn't go to Dubai looking back, but anyway back to why I was done with her after buying wifed.

I didn't even get half way through the course when I realized that there is no value in this course. she basically just tells you that if you are age 20-29 you can get any man you want and get him the sign the dotted line and then after you're married "do whatever you want". Also around this time I started buying Amanda Frances courses and content and ALOT of Minas teachings (esp around money) are literally VERBATIM from Amanda's book or courses. like she even says some of the same things in the same tone or cadence as Amanda, yet has NEVER acknowledged her work that I know of. some of the things I noticed she copied were:

Amandas "what's beneath the surface" journaling prompt
energetic minimums and Maximums when it comes to receiving money
"truth testing"
the "I am no longer available for;;;" boundary setting things

I know mina copied off Amanda because Amanda states she doesn't follow any other coaches / gurus besides her coach at the time which was not Mina. it was all just weird and icky. and when Amanda does mention teachings that are not her own, she credits where she got them free. Mina NEVER does this. she acts like her teachings are all her own, which in itself is a red flag.

I got the wifed course during her sale in 2023 (for like $1800) and at the time of writing it is may 2024. I am not married lol. (turns out I actually don't care to be married right now- im 27 & childless and was tricked into thinking im doing it wrong because mina says you should be married and have babies before 30 - this is not even what I want. I do want marriage and kids just NOT NOW. Minas content centers around making marriage the holy grail- hence why I thought I desired it now when I really didn't!)

The way she markets the course on the sales page is totally different than the content in the course. I can't believe I bought a course on how to get wifed by a woman who obviously is unhappy in her marriage as she feels like she settled. She constantly talks about how she should have married the multi millionaire that her mom liked and how she wishes she did. I think she used her husband for his stability and to make babies with his "provider DNA" because she was so traumatized by the relationship with her ex husband. I found it really weird and disgusting how she would trash the father of her child in her courses over and over again like it was some sort of badge of honor. plus I know her oldest son works for her and it always made me wonder if her son would listen in to the courses and hear the horrible things she was saying about his dad.
Anyway, I stopped listening to her way before Chris was in the picture but she would still come up on my recommended and just the vibe of Chris I could tell that he will have something to do with the truth about her coming out. I am so happy that her dark and manipulative tactics that she uses to prey on women and their deepest desires (money and love) and capitalize off them without ACTUALLY helping them to attain their desires. its literally all smoke and mirrors. I saw her as a mother figure for a while and it wasn't until I really accepted the fact that my own birth mother is narcissistic that I realized that the reason why I latched on to mina was because her constant criticsm, "all about me", "my children/students are my world but only to the extent that they can benefit me", was familiar to me. which in itself is toxic. but as soon as I started to become aware of the affects having a narc mom has had on me was when I realized that Mina had become my toxic internet narcissistic mom who was making me feel even more shitty than better! I remember on one of her live streams when she was marketing divinely Soul'd and she was bragging about how easy it is to make money online and how "you have to try hard to not make money online" and that really hurt and offended me because I was not having the same ease with calling in sales and money that she was and I constantly felt like my business/ content was not good enough because I wasn't making money as easily has her even though I had done my "inner work".

Turns out that building a business that is based on VALUE and customer satisfaction takes time, energy and effort. of course making money online is easy when you are scamming women out of 1000s of dollars for your own personal gain.

In conclusion, here are the things that "thought leader" and "guru" Mina as taught me:

how to spot an internet scammer
how to spot a covert and communal narcissist
how not to run a coaching business if you actually want to have a good reputation and long term recurring clients and customers
how believing your own lies actually makes them true in your life , but makes you look very suspicious and psychopathic to others - like in the teaching someone posted on here about how she says everyone lies .... like who is everyone? I literally don't lie ever lol even when I am intentionally doing things to protect myself and my "DNA"

Here are some things that I have changed and shifted in my life since cutting her teachings out;

I no longer glorify the "provider man" because literally any healthy man that loves you will provide all he can for you. it doesn't take a coach or a teacher or 1000 manipulation tactics- it will just come naturally
I am happy to be single right now and focusing on me, and when the time is right I will attract a man that is right for me and I won't have to date 50 men on rotation to find him (rotational dating has never been my cup of tea)
that I actually want to have a business that provides value and satisfaction to my customers and clients

this was a long one, but I already feel better after typing this out! I AM NOT AVAILABLE to be manipulated by narcissists for their personal gain anymore. I hope this post helps someone. if you are struggling financially, a student, or just starting out in your career, DO NOT spend 1000s on her courses, instead invest in ACTUAL education... as PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS on courser are only like $50 a month, and you can get some ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY degrees for less than her university bundle! and of course self help books are like $30 max.
And as someone who creates digital courses online that provide original information and actual value, do not discount all the amazing coaches and entrepreneurs out there who ACTUALLY CARE about their clients and customers, who actually have value to give. Don't let one rotten apple rot the whole tree.

So I've been seeing it online, decided to give it a go, today, I received my package, watched some tutorials on how to prep it and tried it out. I genuinely loved the taste, It had a taste that was really reminiscent of tobacco, which left some questions. I use a brand named Pipore, it was one of the few brands I could find where I live. So my question is, Is the tobacco-like taste only from it being smoked or does it also contain nicotine? I've searched online and couldn't really find anything. I don't think it does but I can't be sure. Also, how much would be "too much" to drink at one day? I really loved it and drank around a liter over a few hours without realizing. Also any tips and recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

He was born in Acapulco, which made him an Acapulqueño but when people would call him Gringo he would reply back proudly with his small American accent: "Nací y crecí en México, soy Acapulcano". (Born and raised in Mexico, I'm from Acapulco) I never dared correct him about it.
Back in the time he enrolled in the U.S. Marine only to drop out in time to live the hippie sixties era. He told me he was known as "The Doctor" at that time: He was a drug smuggler and dealer of all sorts but mostly psychedelics. He never gave too much details on the subject although I knew that at some point he got caught and made some time in prison which made me think that he, being a former Marine and all, must have negotiated some deal. He was one of the people that made me think about Zipolite as a kind of refugee for the U.S. protected witnesses program. I only enquired once about this and he answered somewhat serious: "it doesn't work that way" and left the bar earlier than usual that day.
The more I got to know him, the more we became friends. We had more than 40 years of age difference in between us but I barely felt it that way. The day I knew he was more a friend than a regular customer was the day he asked for my help to carry some things from Pochutla, the nearest city:
He had to run some chores over there but even with the storage space on his beautiful bike and backpack wouldn't be enough. He was talking to Amanda about it.
"Well you can take him with you, he's almost done for the day" - she said nodding over to me with her usual ear to ear smile.
He thought about it for a minute. I think he was expecting Amanda to come with him, so having me for the ride on his bike to Pochutla instead of a beautiful woman was probably a bit disappointing. He must have seen my eager look because he accepted the tradeoff.
I finished my shift at the Nice Place and we hopped on his chopper and set off for the small adventure. I could tell he was a bit uncomfortable as I had to hug him for dear life to avoid falling off the tiny passenger backseat, but I very much enjoyed the ride along the wonderful coast with my dear old friend. I still remember quite vividly the feeling of the wind hitting my face while I peaked on life at Zipolite.
I got to return him the favor not long after that. Tony was one of the people that had lent some money to The Worst Canadian Ever. Sean had blocked him from all social media thinking he would never hear from him again. I managed to trick him into paying back Tony with the help of my friends at Posada Kiko's (now Ballelita):
Alex, the owner of Ballelita and dear friend, hadn't been blocked by Sean. I asked Alex for his phone and wrote to Sean on Facebook:
"Hello there scumbag, this is Tony writing. I took Alex's phone. I know you blocked me to stop me from asking you to pay me back. You better do it or I'll swear I'll find you, you piece of shit"
Around one week later Tony had received back his money. We told him about the message and we laughed about it all for hours.
Not long after that I decided to definitely leave Zipolite. We gathered at Ballelita for one last smoke with my friends. Before leaving I gave a good look to all of them. Because of all the natural and human dangers in Zipolite I knew that that could be the last time I saw one of them. I had a feeling it might be Tony. And it was the last time I saw him indeed.
To Tony, the best and only Acapulcano. I hope you're having the wildest trip ever. Miss you my friend.

I'm back with more questions!
So far I did try only two brands — Amanda, and Playadito.
Amanda fell into my heart with its simplicity, easiness, pleasant and soft, clean taste. It brought me into drinking mate, as soon as I'm done with new flavours I'm back to it as a base.
Playadito has risen the bar with its creaminess at the beginning, more woody notes, and strong, long lasting aftertaste, especially on mid-late stage of a serving. Although, some halfway in it loses almost all of its character, leaving me just with the bitter pallet. Doesn't last long.
I realised that I like my mate creamy, flavourful, not very smoked, not too woody, and without a strong or long lasting pallet aftertaste. I want it to last long (~0.7-1L) in a serving and not to strike me with a truck of energy. Would you suggest any brand that falls under most of those criteria?
My plan was to try Piporé and Cruz de Malta next, because these are simply the ones immediately available in my local shop. I'm a bit scared of Tarragüí though because of its allegedly high caffeine effects and bitterness (should I be?).
What can you recommend?🤔

Thanks again for all the comments, upvotes, and general support. Whew. Figured I owed y'all this one after the fact.
~~So... he faked his death.~~ Nah I'm kidding but he was committedly a defiantly mischievous little shit with a shit-eating grin like none I've ever seen, in all the best ways, so I thought I'd start off this otherwise emotionally heavy post with a little homage/quasi-Freudian slip wishful thinking. And continuing off the homage idea... I want to share his real name, and a few photos of him. He passed away, so I'm not doxxing anyone, and he had an insanely common name anyways, so it's fine. Links aren't allowed in the bodies of posts, so go check my profile super quick to see that.
One other point of clarity before I begin -- I referred to Damian's stepdad in my last post, but I'm just going to call him Damian's dad from now on. I mentioned that D had told me the only time he met his biological father was in jail when all the man wanted was to be put back in touch with D's biological mother. The additional context here is that D's biological dad was convicted of actually pulling the trigger that killed the convenience store clerk, and [I'm inferring] on D's Mom's testimony, so he got a life sentence while D's Mom got a much more lenient sentence. D's biological dad just wanted her to change her testimony and say she'd actually pulled the trigger so he could get free, too -- That's the only reason D's biological dad wanted to meet his son. Needless to say, that never happened. Thanks to the leniency, my understanding is that D's Mom was able to rebuild her life and even take full custody of Damian. She eventually met and married someone we'll call Gary, who therefore yes, was at first Damian's stepdad, but Gary also eventually adopted Damian. For all intents and purposes, Gary was the dad Damian had throughout his life.
A lot happened in the week following my original post. ~~I did my taxes!~~ Artie, Eddie, and I had all of Damian's stuff, naturally, here at the home we shared. By the end of that first week, Damian's ex-wife, who we'll call Rae, changed her mind about wanting any of his stuff. Rae's initial instinct was that her and Damian's son, Pete, should have first pick of anything and everything, to have whatever he wanted to remember his father by. Pete is autistic, and Rae is a single mom, so she's fiercely protective of him and his best interests. That was what was risking becoming such a point of contention at the time of my last post, between Rae and Pete, and Damian's current girlfriend of over 5 years, Amanda -- Damian and Rae broke up around 7 years ago, and that was the last time Damian saw Pete, too. They were in touch and writing letters and having phone calls, but Damian was still getting his life together and unable to be the father he definitely wanted to be. Amanda, on the other hand, being only Damian's girlfriend had no legal rights to anything of his, but, having been the most important person in his life for many years now... certainly had moral rights. In the days leading up to and a little following my last post, I'd carefully walked the balance of keeping the peace between the two of them while we three roommates actually physically had in our possession everything that was being discussed and needed to maintain our boundaries with regard to our home.
It felt like a complete 180, but was a massive relief, when Rae told me she'd thought more about it and was forfeiting her and Pete's claim to all of Damian's possessions. She said she remembered how protective Damian had been of Pete, too, keeping Pete away from any and all of his own vices, substance abuse, crimes, etc. She also said meth smoke in particular embeds itself in everything, that that's why it's so common for homes where meth has been used or manufactured a lot to be foreclosed and condemned, and that she also therefore had health concerns about any of Damian's things going to her son. Rae concluded that she and Pete still had tons of gifts and other mementos, keepsakes, and the like, from Damian, and that they were enough.
Gary was fine with that, and he and Amanda agreed easily and without conflict about everything else -- Gary would take Damian's two motorscooters to try and sell them for Rae and Pete and to fund any associated costs of Damian's passing, while Amanda would take everything else. My roommate Artie was adamant, though, that he didn't want anyone from Damian's life entering our home. He reeled for a while about the whiplash of our three's growing concerns about Damian and his behavior in the weeks leading up to his passing, to precisely Damian's passing and seeing his first dead body. Eddie and I moved all of Damian's bagged possessions from his room to our garage outside, and I coordinated first with Gary, and then the following day with Amanda, to come pick everything up. I'd met Amanda before, and she and I were friendly, but it was my first time meeting Gary.
I was pleasantly surprised by Gary's character. He's your stereotypical goofy Dad with a goofy Dad sense of humor, bumbling about and just doing his best. He thanked me effusively for everything I'd done for his son and him that week, and he and a friend of his and Damian's who'd tagged along to help with the motorscooters invited me for pizza at one of my favorite local spots a few blocks away after we loaded the scooters onto the flatbed of Gary's truck. Over lunch I got a really good chance to know him and further know Damian through Gary. I shared my impression of Damian -- That I pictured him having been a very smart kid who just struggled to apply himself in school, and that his issues snowballed from there, and Gary was so thrilled and grateful to know he was speaking to someone who understood his son. From there I learned about Damian's childhood and life, and about Gary himself. Damian's biological parents both passed away, Gary had remarried a chef, and she and he were devout Christians -- the real good kind; They not only don't agree with any of the hateful weaponization of their religion, but they are leading members of a church that sponsors African refugee families to come live in the USA. Gary became a landlord to affordably rent a home to a family of 8 or 10 (I remember the number "8" but I forget if it was 8 kids and 2 parents, or 8 people total -- either way, that's insane), who he shared then were able to work hard and save up enough money to buy the house Gary'd been renting them from him! The oldest kid is in college now, studying to become a medical interpreter, as he's had to be one so many times for his parents and siblings since moving to this country.
To match Gary and his friend's energy, I bought them each a jar of the pizza joint's own brand of sauce (which they sell at their stores too). It's genuinely an amazing sauce, one of the best I've had, and exploding in popularity. Aside from it being one of my favorite spots, it was also a spot Damian and I had made plans to go to together "one of these days." Like I shared in my last post, Damian was a chef at a Hilton hotel, and a damn good chef too -- But at home, I always teased him a little because he ate like shit. He loved Domino's. He was always ordering Domino's. I myself enjoy the occasional Domino's pizza, it's not half bad, but Damian ordered Domino's religiously. I promised him we'd find time for me to take him to the place up the street because it was also delicious, and while I don't think Damian believed I was serious when I'd said it, I had been, and he'd agreed to go with me. That's part of why I suggested it to Gary -- and he and his friend loved it, too.
Amanda's visit the following day to take the bags of D's stuff was less eventful but no less meaningful. We chatted a while about him and I helped her load the bags into her SUV. It felt weird seeing someone's entire life fit in a handful of big, essentially industrial ultra-heavy-duty transparent garbage bags, that could all then fit in one car.
Things settled down for a while after that. I kept in touch with everyone, checking up and following up periodically. I suggested a local funeral home that had treated me and mine extremely well when my Dad had passed away to Gary and Damian's cremation and other related arrangements went off smoothly and without a hitch through them. I connected Gary to the hotel Damian worked at (upon their request, for HR stuff) and they offered a room for a memorial. They made arrangements and set that up for this past Saturday. I bought three sympathy cards -- one each for Gary and his wife (Damian's stepmom), for Amanda, and for Rae and Pete -- and each of my roommates and I all wrote them condolence notes. My roommates and I also went in on a flower arrangement for D for the memorial, a little over $50 each, manageable.
One ultimately minor bump did come up on Thursday of last week, when I called the hotel to ask where and how I should have the flowers delivered for the memorial and they were like, "Oh! You're calling about Damian's memorial! All of us who worked with him here have been asking one another if we knew anything for weeks, please hold while I grab a sticky note and I'll write down the details!" By that day it'd been over a week since Gary texted me the memorial arrangements to share with everyone I was in touch with. To make a long story where I had to pull out my "Damian deserves better than this"! voice, the hotel's GM was unceremoniously fired without any kind of a transition plan, out of nowhere, etc., and she'd naturally been the one taking point on the memorial. Once I called and revealed to the hotel's lower-level employees that a memorial for Damian was happening in two days there at the hotel where they all worked with him, they were up in arms and quickly management reached back out to the former GM to transition the memorial plans to the appropriate people still at the hotel. The memorial proceeded as had been planned.
It was an informal event, one hour long. Everyone slowly trickled in and once we all slowly introduced ourselves to one another and explained how we knew Damian, and everyone had begun to separate into little almost 'cliques' making conversation, Gary took command of the room and kicked everything off. He spoke to his experiences being Damian's dad, how he'd been growing up, and that recently they'd been pretty estranged. Gary hadn't actually seen Damian in close to 7 years, though they'd spoken on rare occasion. After that, Gary opened up the floor to anyone else who wanted to share with the room how they knew Damian and who he was to them, what he meant.
Ben spoke first, another chef at the hotel who most often worked with Damian. Ben's young, early 20s probably. He shared how when Damian first joined the hotel, he didn't want to be training Damian. Then he actually met him, and began to think, "Actually, this guy's really cool. I think he's who I want to be." Ben shared how, at work, Damian was always keeping the kitchen in line, everything in its place, and calling him out whenever he'd fail to do this or that little thing before leaving. "I know I was supposed to, but I was hoping you'd do it man!" And Damian would grumble... but then do it. Ben also began a long trend of speaking to Damian's unique, ubiquitous, and trademark mischievous humor. Ben shared how Damian magnificently walked this line between being dedicatedly defiant in the face of what's "politically correct," while at the same time, always doing it in a way everyone knew was loving, caring, and kind.
George spoke next, a friend of Damian and Amanda's. Admittedly I remember little of what he said; I'll be frank -- I meant to tell Gary I thought he should arrange to videorecord the memorial, or at least what people said, but I forgot to, and nobody did. I'll come back to this. As the memorial went on, many more spoke, friends and coworkers alike. D was always finding out the little things that made people happy, brought them joy, and would find a way to get it for them. All of his coworkers echoed one another about how he'd get away with cooking free plates of their favorite dishes for them with that charming shit-eating grin of his. There were countless stories of his mischief -- He'd come up behind the receptionist while she was working on something, quacking like a duck, for shits. He'd say random shit too wildly embarrassing and outrageous to be believed in front of bartenders when they were with customers, just to break tensions and make everyone laugh. And he always got away with it.
I spoke as well -- third. I shared how it'd become clear to me from speaking to everyone there both in the month leading up to the memorial as well as at the memorial itself before I got up, that few things were clearer than this: Work was Damian's happy place. He thrived there, felt happy and fulfilled and a sense of community from all his coworkers, and all of that meant a lot to him. At work, everyone got his best -- which, judging by the turnout there, was really something special to behold. At home... we got his worst. I was honest about it, and I got knowing laughs from those who could either picture it and relate, or from Gary himself who actually knew firsthand, when I said that Damian wasn't an easy person to live with. My roommates both had months-long prior commitments and couldn't attend, so I felt a responsibility to represent us all. I hadn't had any real issues with Damian, but I also live a little separate from the three of them, and they'd shared with me they'd had issues. I felt an obligation to honor that truth in a frank but compassionate way, and I think I succeeded.
I shared an anecdote from when Damian stole a pastry from Eddie -- a pastry I'd bought Eddie, just as I'd bought Damian and Artie one as well, when I first moved in, to set a pleasant and productive tone conducive to being roommates -- a pastry from my home country. I shared my pride in how I responded to that -- According to the principle of, "the best approach to get what you want from people is assuming the best of intentions from them until you have irrefutable proof of the contrary," I'd diplomatically led by appreciating Damian's love of my country's pastry. How I'd appreciated his enthusiasm and love for the one I'd gotten him so much that he'd go and take someone else's. I cracked the same jokes Damian cracked with me -- He didn't deny it, he was embarrassed. "Dude, there was a note right next to it that said, 'For Eddie'!" to which Damian had replied, "Oh, uhh, yeah, sorry, my bad haha, I never learned to read." He sounds like a dick in text but he played it off endearingly, as a joke, as if to ashamedly admit, "I know I fucked up on something tiny, but here's a joke to make up for it so that we're OK." After I explained how hard they can be to get here in the USA, Damian emphatically insisted on reimbursing me for it. I turned him down. And I think my approach there, assuming the best in him, had stuck in the back of his mind that I was a safe person for him.
I shared that by the month-ish before his passing, Damian had been getting me gifts. I'd bought a jar of chocolates but because I needed the jar to store some stuff, not for the chocolates, so I set it out on the counter with a note that the chocolates were for all of us so long as I could get the jar back. He'd asked me what it was about jars, and I explained (animatedly, I'll admit, as I am wont to do, haha) that I love jars for storing stuff. A week or two later, Damian came up to me excited that he had a gift for me. It was a jar, with his name haphazardly scribbled all over it multiple times, that he'd taken from work. "Paris Hilton paid for it!" he'd joked for the umpteenth time, in the trademark exaggeratedly spasmodic and gutturally slurred voice he used for comedic effect, with that world-famous shit-eating grin of his. I told him I was looking into becoming more involved with The Satanic Temple, and suddenly he was showering me with gifts of Satanic stickers with the most beautiful artwork on them, and offered me his Satanic Bible (which is for the Church of Satan, entirely different religious organization, but I make a point to have copies of various religious texts anyways). I'd told him I'd think about the bible, but I'm proud to say that the day of the memorial Amanda gladly gifted me D's Satanic Bible and now I have it to remember him by, too. I keep it right next to my copies of The Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon, The Clear Quran, Science of Being and Art of Living, and the US Constitution (not because I regard it as religion, but because some fanatics certainly do, and it's an inside joke lightly mocking ridiculous people, with myself, in the privacy of my own home, damn it!).
I shared all of that and more from his last month with us, and then I shared how sad it all made me. I shared that, after hearing everything everyone else shared about Damian, I realized I was just beginning to scratch the surface of who and what Damian was, and what an actual friendship between us could be, and how much of who he was below that surface really seems to have been someone I'd have loved, admired, and related to so much. I'm also mischievous in eerily similar ways to Damian. I'm the friend that'll punk his friends in outrageous and yet entirely innocent and harmless ways. I'm far and away the biggest small-gift-giver of all my friends; I'm always sharing little things to try and make folks smile. And, I suspect, it's for a lot of the same reasons: I think D and I are/were both quite lonely people, who've suffered a lot. I don't think either of us ever got used to people putting effort into loving us. I think that's why we're always putting constant effort in -- because the reliable and constant presence of love and appreciation, constantly and actively showing appreciation for people with the little things -- is what we both have firsthand experience knowing sucks so much not to have. I think, judging by the people in his personal life, he grew accustomed to being disappointed by his loved ones, and wouldn't say much when he himself felt he deserved better. I'm someone who gives compliments very very liberally, and many times I've complimented Amanda's jewelry. Every little piece of jewelry I've complimented, except for one? -- "Thanks! Aww, Damian got it for me." Then there'd be some endearingly ridiculous story about how he'd come to get it for her, just because he knew she'd like it. Another time, she did also tell me that he would still stand up to her, and ask her to get him more gifts, and ask her why she wouldn't do that for him.
I was right in my last post. D was absolutely still constantly fighting hard to be better and do better. Yes, he was hard to live with at times, and yes, that was because he didn't always meet us where we were -- But that's because he had so much more ground to cover to get there, than most other people. On the off chance you've seen Black Sails, one of my all-time favorite shows, there's a speech by Jack Rackham that ought to resonate in your mind right now. On the more likely chance you haven't, watch it. Season One is the weakest, but Seasons 2 through to the end the writing is on par with the legendary writing found on Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Sopranos, or the first half of Game of Thrones.
This post has grown pretty long, and there's still so much I feel in me to say about Damian. I think I'll manage without most of it here, today, or by sharing it another time, at another place. But there is one last thing I want to share that I'm proud of. I took all of last week off of work -- I took it off just to get some stuff done at home. But, during the week, I came upon two insane invitations that challenged me to step out of my comfort zone -- one of them I can't possibly imagine coming upon any more serendipitously than I did. I'm proud to say I said "yes" to both -- After the memorial, Amanda invited me to join her and D's other friends to Six Flags, hours away, which I'd never been to but always wanted to go. It was the only time so many of them were actually together, and she'd been trying to arrange the trip for years, so they thought it'd be poetic and fitting to tack it on in honor of D. The other invitation was for the day before the memorial, to attend a Native American Ceremony (I am very much not culturally Native and had no real prior connection to any of it; I'm not even really spiritual at all). I'm proud to say I made the most of the day, saying "yes" to everything I could that challenged my comfort zone, including -- for those of you familiar -- to a Sweat Lodge, where, before any of the others I offered, I offered a prayer for Damian, for his soul, and for all those of us who he left behind. That I shared as well, at the memorial, proudly.
Sadly, Rae and Pete stepped out shortly into the part of the memorial where everyone was speaking. It all overwhelmed Pete, and Rae later texted me that he'd said, "My Dad was really a good guy after all," and walked off, crying, so of course she'd gone to comfort him. They missed almost all that was said. I'm an archivist at heart and I knew beforehand I'd have had everything videorecorded, but I'd failed to bring it up to Gary and/or the hotel. But when she told me Pete had said that, and followed it up with, "So now you have to tell us everything everyone said! :D" was when I really felt the pang of having had the thought, and not followed through. So, I proposed to one of the bartenders at the hotel who struck me particularly as a natural leader, that we all or record ourselves or write letters (actually, the variety from just recording ourselves was his idea), speaking to who Damian was and once again sharing stories, really for all of us grieving him but most of all for Rae and little 10-year-old Pete. Compiling everything and showing it first to Gary, to first surprise him and further invite him to contribute the final piece (since he'd spoken so much at the memorial, while neither Amanda nor Rae nor Pete could), and finally to Rae and Pete, will be the final chapter of this saga.
When I spoke at the memorial was the first time I was expressing a lot of the grief I'd begun to feel out loud -- grief not for what I had, but for what became so painstakingly obvious to me that I was about to get, in Damian -- a great friend, and perhaps even mischievous partner in crime, that I could admire and learn a lot from. We went from the memorial straight to Six Flags, so it all only really had a chance to properly sink in after Amanda dropped me back off from Six Flags. And that, that was the first time I finally cried about D -- and the first time I cried in general, in years.
Here's to you, Damian. I hope you saw the prayer I offered for you in that lodge. I hope you saw what everyone said at the memorial, and even all the conversations being had in your memory. I hope you see and read this post. And I hope that now you can finally feel and believe and bask in the love everyone had for you and all your cracks you were still working so fucking hard to mend. Thank you for the example of your bravery and commitment to self-improvement, thank you for the lessons in successful diplomacy between roommates, and thank you for the defiant hope instilled in everyone you met and embedded with your enduring mischievous love.

Ethan and Olivia specifically were so mean spirited and cruel towards her for no real reason. Like what, she acted cringey? Did a silly dance? Does that really justify dedicating a segment to bagging on her? And then everyone is shocked when situations like Amanda Bynes or Britney Spears happen.
It’s just so hypocritical and gross. And I’m shocked not one person on the crew was defending Jojo in the slightest. This show is the bystander effect on steroids when it comes to punching down.

So, i have this friend who ive known for almost 15 years. She struggles a lot with her mental health and I've always been supportive of her and been there for her through the years, shes also been there for me through hard times and our friendship overall has been pretty good. I started therapy about a year ago after a bad breakup and have done a lot of healing in that time and im noticing a lot of things in our friendship i now have issues with and Im not sure how to sddress them?
For starters she has disliked my sister for years because of how my sister treated her when my sis was 15 ( my sister and i were raised by a narcissistic mother, and she rebelled against pretty much everyone at that age) and obviously my sister has grown a lot ( shes 24 now) and is my best friend, but any time i bring up news about my sister my friend scoffs or changes the subject or says something rude about my sister. Ive tried to invite them together to mend fences but my friend wants no part in it, even my sistet was ready to bury the hatchet and apologise for her actions as a teen. My friend refuses.
I started dating a guy Ive known for over 5 years recently and he wanted to meet my friends so i set up a time for him to meet this specific friend but he had to cancel due to an emergency vet visit with his cat and my friend said " hes on my dead to me list now" and called him rude and said she doesnt want to meet him now, and that i should tell him that she feels that way. Even after i explained the reasoning behind him cancelling, it hurt to hear her say that. And i ended up telling him that she doesnt want to meet him now and onbiously that bothered him because it was a legit reason to be absent. And since then shes told me hes only with me as a rebound and that she doesnt care for him at all.
Another time she came with me to our other friend amanda's house. Amanda moved in with her childhood best friend Joe, and theyre both super awesome people. My friend is also friends with Amanda and weve hung out plenty of times together so this was my friends first time meeting Joe and when we got to Amandas house, joe was out on the deck smoking a cigarette and my friend goes " omg i wasnt expecting him to be so fat!! Hes huge!" And laughed about it, me and amanda looked at her and were like wtf that was SO rude!! And she jusr doubled down and saod she wasnt expecting some giant gruff fat dude to be her best friend. We were speechless. And then Joe came in so we sort of just moved on with the rest of the evening, which went well tbh, its like she couldnt see how mean a comment like that even was? But it put a bad taste in mine and amandas mouth for sure.
She has also been long time ( 3ish years) friends with a masseuse we go see and has lunch with him every now and then, and the most recent time we went to lunch he grabbed her shoulder while talking to her ( like squeezing the trap) nothing sexual just touchy. And she hated that, so i told her why not tell him that it made you uncomfortable and set a boundary about physical touch with hkm since its the only time hes done somethkng like that. Intstead of addressing it she decided to just ghost him and also put him on her "dead to me" list of people shes no longer communicating with.
So now, I am not sure how to proceed, shes not mean to me personally but she dislikes 2 of the most important people in my life over things that are long in the past, hasnt apologised for her rude comments towards joe, and has this dead to me list. Shes pushing everyone away and has admitted to me im her closest and basically only friend, and i genguinely care about this woman. I just dont know how to bring this up to her and that being friends with her while shes acting this way is going against my values and i just feel yucky being around her cause i cant talk about my partner or my sister with her, who i talk to daily, i cant invite her to group activities cause she wants nothing to do with these people and its starting to feel like im walking on eggshells, that i could be next on her "list" if i do something wrong. Its made me feel completely insecure in my friendship with her and just sucks all around. I know she struggles with depression and pushing people away is sometimes part of that so i do want to be sensitive to her issues whilst also bringing up my own. Any advice on how to proceed??
