2024.05.17 13:07 trickycurrents Help with a bike purchase

My priorities while deciding on a new bike:
  1. Staying within budget < $650
  2. Commuting to/from work (12 miles/day)
  3. Olympic/sprint triathlons
Now I understand that the A+ answer is to have one bike for commute, another for tris, and that a perfect balance will likely not be struck esp with a smaller budget like mine. I am searching on local SoCal offerup- any guidance on the best specs to look for given my priorities? Thanks in advance.

2024.05.17 13:03 jununiper what the hell am i supposed to do

hi yall, this is my first post here, super super fun. i have this roommate who has actually never really been a problem up until a couple months ago or so. buckle in because this one is kind of complicated.
when i originally moved in to this place i was in a long-term relationship, i was also pretty much a hermit and didn’t really enjoy going out drinking (i still don’t). my roommate during this time would constantly pressure me into going to bars i didn’t want to go to for MONTHS. i would always get made fun of for ‘letting my boyfriend control my life’, ‘having attachment issues’, etc. i never thought much of it because a) we’re not friends and her opinion really doesn’t affect me, and b) im happy with the way my life is.
fast forward to a couple months ago, this roommate started dating a new guy who is… very scarily similar to me? is the best way i can describe it. me and this boy have the same hair colour, eye colour, skin colour, music taste, fashion sense, shoes, introverted personality, etc. ever since she started dating this guy my life has been absolute fucking hell, i feel like their hotel room service or something at this point. they are always here during the day, having loud shower sex (in our shared shower), making a huge mess with MY personal plates and cutlery, leaving garbage everywhere, and then running away to his house to spend the night before i can say anything. she never does any chores, i have done absolutely everything around the house for the past 2 months, including taking out the garbage every single week, unclogging the shower drain twice a month, sweeping and mopping the floors, etc. i would have no problem doing these things on my own if the amount of cleaning reflected the amount of messes i make, but instead i am cleaning up after 3 people, on top of also working 6 days a week. i don’t think it’s unfair to expect my jobless roommate who is not in school and does nothing except fuck her boyfriend in my shower to AT LEAST clean up after herself.
additionally, my roommate, who a couple months ago would make fun of me for being the way i am, has now started to subtly copy me in a lot of different ways. for starters, she has changed every single one of her shower products to be the exact same as mine. her and her boyfriend spend every waking minute together, but they never go out, just like what i was made fun of for months prior. she changed from being a complete night owl (waking up at around 1pm every day) to setting her daily alarm at the exact same time as me (6;30am), she does not have a job or any classes so she had no reason to change her sleep schedule so suddenly. this one hit really close to home as i only started waking up early as a way to avoid social interaction in the house. she’s been shopping for clothing and shoes in my style, and intentionally leaving these new clothes and shoes around the house for me to see. the best way i can describe living here right now is that it feels like an intentional punishment for me being the person i am, like she’s trying to get me to either change my personality or move out. (neither of which are going to happen)
i have confronted her already about the dishes, the loud shower sex, and the chores, none of which have really improved. i guess i came here mostly to rant, but also to ask just genuinely wtf am i supposed to do in this situation? i just want to feel at home in the home i pay for, take care of, and clean. is that too much to ask? how should i approach this going forward?
i’m just so sick of having to dedicate so much of my free time to cleaning up messes i didn’t make, for people who treat me like shit. i also just cannot fucking stand laziness, and all of my alone time has been robbed of me. please help

2024.05.17 12:56 Carrots-1975 Road rage edition

I travel a lot for work- typically anywhere from 6,000-10,000 miles a month, so I get to see how truly atrocious drivers can be on a regular basis. Here are the relatively minor things that send me over the edge:
-Left Lane campers (do we really need another explanation? The left lane is for passing not for cruising the speed limit)
Have I forgotten anything?

I need a big, cheap family car asap, so I've been looking at the following. Would like some advice on which would be best? It won't be for huge milage, just to work and back (10 miles each way) and maybe one or two runs to Hampshire (approx 250 miles each way). Max budget is £3000.

2024.05.17 12:41 xPaVLoVa69x Stuck in bad situation...

So despite struggling with injurys for over 7 years, because no medical evidence shows to support my struggles.. is there really nothing better for me then to be on jobseeker pretending to look for work?
Kinda just adds stress tbh, feeling like I'm lying to the system, I hate feeling like a doll bludger even though it's pretty full on what I'm dealing with... like, I legit pushed myself with working till my body started giving out getting worse, which also affected me mentally seeing that my body wasn't getting better...
Although nothing shows on scans I can show some form of physical proof with pictures/videos but even what I've being able to document, it doesn't really show the full extent of the physical struggles I have..
Have just had a pretty good last month as far as trying to strengthen my body back up but still feels a million miles away from where I need to be..
Have spoken to some people through workforce and they've even said they think I should be on DSP....
Ideally I rather get better and work with a real income so I can save and invest the way I planned... But 7 years approaching the 8 year anniversary this year... Still trying but it's a tough situation....
But jobseeker, is that really the best they can do for me? And these are work injurys... Got f"ed over on the legal side of things when pursuing that...

2024.05.17 12:40 mhp Know anyone that can replace a private fire hydrant?

I cannot use anyone from NYC (they are union outfits that don't do non-city work). And for the life of me, I cannot find anyone that does this in a 150 mile radius. The water company (Veolia) will not do it as the hydrant is a private hydrant (not city owned) on a private meter.

Ill prolly get cs in pesu rr campus since my rank is 70x but I have already paid for vit chennai cs cat 2 and my parents are asking me to pick one of them, to keep as backup cuz I cant really afford to shell out 8 lakhs at one shot just to keep both of them open as options. So I needed opinions on which would yall prefer if u were in my shoes. Its basically pesu cs (rr) vs vit cs (chennai). The fees also similar cuz i got cat 2 in vit. Any input would be helpful

2024.05.17 12:37 destria Neighbour's building works blocking up a shared easement?

There are four houses who park off this shared easement, it's like a private road basically that we all maintain a section of. The easement connects to the road, and the house who is closest to the road is having some building work done (looks like they're redoing or refelting their roof?). The construction vehicles are constantly blocking up the easement and blocking up the access to the road, which means none of us can get our cars out.
I can't even get close enough to talk to any builders as they're on the roof, the work is loud, the ones in the vehicles just ignore me. Once I did manage to talk to one guy who shrugged and said I had to take it up with the neighbour. I've tried knocking to talk to the neighbour but they don't seem to be in whilst the building work is happening. None of us have a contact number for them, they moved in relatively recently.
The bit of road they're blocking up is on double yellows, only the dropped kerb bit that connects the easement and the road isn't double yellows but they extend well beyond that. They put up these red barriers which block the pavement. The double yellows were added last year because of a blind corner so this feels like a safety issue too. Are they allowed to close a section of pavement and park on double yellows? Usually we've had a letter through if anyone is blocking up the road with a skip for example, and the letter states between what dates and times. Nothing like that this time.
I'm getting anxious about this because I'm pregnant, I have hospital appointments to go to, could go into labour any week now, plus just my regular life! I've already had to ask a friend for a lift to a medical appointment. There's nowhere else to park my car except off this easement, the closest other parking is about 1/2 mile away which in my condition is absolute killer.
Not really sure if I have any recourse here? Should I be contacting the council (which dept if so) about the blocking the road? I'm wondering whether to post a letter through to the neighbour with my contact number and ask if they could let us know if the easement will block the road; if I knew in advance, I could plan better and move my car somewhere. But if the neighbour has just moved out during this building work, idk if they'll see that.

2024.05.17 12:37 Miserable-Bridge-853 Behind the knee tendon or muscle injury

I experiance a lot of pain behind the knee and up and my leg when using stairs or climbing up and down any sort or grade.
The pain routinely stops me in my tracks and I'm forced to stop moving. It's debilitating and I can't move when the pain hits.
It started at the end of a 14 mile hike. I was walking down a slight hill and the pain hit me like a truck.
I'm mostly good on flat ground, but the mere weight of my boots or shoes is causing pain and soreness and I'm forced to hobble and walk slower.
I should've rested after the pain began, but instead went on a 6 mile hike the following weekend which included a ton of ups, downs and rock climbing. I was in a lot of pain throughout the hike, but I forced my self to finish it.
How can you tell if you've injured a muscle or tendon? I'm getting pins and needles, some pain in the foot and some rubber band being stretched and leg go feeling. There are also vibrations in my leg at times.
I can skip hiking this weekend, but I'm forced to be on my feet for work 50 hours per week. I can't take any time off to heal.
What can I do to speed up the healing process? Are there any natural or over the counter topical meds that I can apply to the leg to help it heal faster? Thanks.
