2012.07.30 01:04 So many numbers, so little time

Many physicians, mid-level providers, practice managers, administrators, billers and front desk staff members have questions about coding. Today's demand for certified professional coders (CPCs) is growing as many jobs in the coding and billing field now require certification. Health care professionals involved in coding, compliance, billing, administration and reimbursement aspects of medicine should be certified as part of a compliance program.

2024.06.01 16:30 EmptyImagination4 are narcs worried they will get punished if they break the law?

I’m in a legal confrontation with my narcicisstic landlord (paranoid, manipulative, guilt tripping). After moving out he said he wants to keep my bail over alleged “damages”. I already sent him a letter stating that’s not true and I will sue. No response. Then 3.5 weeks ago, I pointed out he has many other potential legal issues with different areas of the law that I can use to seek damages (data protection, building code, criminal law, renters law and his legal professions guidelines as a doctor). No response. Then this week in a call to settle, he used massive gaslighting, playing the victim and tried to weaken me by saying things like “nobody likes you” “everyone’s happy you moved out” in order to deter me from further actions (he knows i’m depressed). Then I received an email, demanding me to agree he can keep the bail.
Question: If I now ignore my landlord's email offering to keep my bail, will he worry I'll report him to the different agencies that protect the diffrent areas of law (for example demanding more than the bail in reparations)?
Cons: Why he might not be worried: - in our last call I was nice to him and only nicely said I will talk to a lawyer in order to verify his offer with courtesy. So no signs or threats from me to seek damages. So he’s not expecting this probably. - narcs have high self confidence and might think they can get away with it or did nothing wrong, so my letter is nothing to worry about. - my letter is 3.5 weeks ago and I did not follow through on it since then. The letter lacked a concrete threat and was delivered in a positive tone, suggesting a desire for resolution rather than confrontation. Also I continued this tone throught our communication. I did not talk about the possiblity to seek damages or report him to the different agencies, so he might not be worried or might not even think about these possibilities. - he thinks I don't gain from re - And he did not respond to my mailing at all. If he were so scared about it, he would have answered. - historically, he only responds to concrete threats to his interests, not demands for negotiation or compliance. - He might believe his massive manipulation and guilt-tripping in our last call have worked, making him think I'm too weak or confused to take further action. - maybe he's not worried and just want to be left alone because he has 10 renters and a job and a family and a marriage to manage. Leaving him alone would be the desired outcome for him and that's why he was asking and agreeing to the call
Pros: Reasons my landlord might worry if I ignore him: - He may fear I am silent because I’m planning to report him to various agencies, which could lead to legal troubles for him. - He knows he has neglected his obligations and may feel vulnerable to potential legal repercussions.

2024.06.01 16:28 OptimisedMan is putting more than 20% down worth it?

Say putting down 30% or 35%?
I (33yomale full time stable employment) checked some calculators online on a popular house buying website, and was shocked to see a larger downpayment made little difference in the monthly payments.
As a realistic example of my situation, consider this £290,000 home
Salary: £45,000 gross
Expenses total per month (Exluding mortgage): £700 (no childcare, single male, mainly things like petrol, car insurance, utilities, gym, food, council tax)
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/143113226#/?channel=RES_BUY
When you scroll down, you can input your deposit for first time buyer.
For a 5.15% interest rate and 25 year mortgage, I was shocked that
-with an 80k deposit (27.6%), the monthly payment is £1247
I tried this other homes and I don't understand why the monthly doesn't drop as much as I thought it would?
I have saved about 90k, and thought I whack all this into a mortgage, but I cannot see why wher the difference between a 30k and 80k deposit is about £300 a month, which to me seems very low???
Is something broken? (no political responses to this please!)
What is realistic chance of me getting a £300,000 home with 90k saved up and a gross salary of £45,000, expenses £700 a month. the free online calculators are abit wide spread. Single income person.
thank you,

2024.06.01 16:28 hei_zhu_qiao Generative Music Program

Hi Folks. I’ve been experimenting a lot more these days with generative music. While I typically release my music as albums, I’m really excited by the possibility of releasing some “tracks” in a different format entirely: as a program (or collection of programs) that when opened, loads up Sonic Pi and any respective synths in the background and plays through the generative piece as long as the program is open. How might someone go about doing this cleanly (i.e. without having to manually load up Sonic Pi, input the code, configure the MIDI to work with the other Synth, etc)?
Some thoughts about what this final package might look like:
I have experience with Processing, p5, Unity, and Sonic Pi in case this helps at all in coming up with a solution. Thanks for any help! I’d also really appreciate if anyone has examples of similar projects being done.

2024.06.01 16:28 multiverse_fan Entanglement of the Mind

be me, a scientist with a taste for the macabre
I've been studying the works of certain... "thinkers" who believe that our reality is nothing more than a simulation created by some omnipotent being
These "thinkers" claim that CERN's particle accelerator is not just a tool for scientific discovery, but a device that can manipulate the fabric of reality itself
They say that by harnessing the power of quantum entanglement, we can teleport information and even consciousness across vast distances
But what happens when this technology falls into the wrong hands?
Imagine it: governments and corporations using quantum computers to crack encryption codes and access sensitive information
Imagine it: mind control techniques being used on unsuspecting citizens, controlling their thoughts and actions like puppets
Imagine it: eternal life achieved through free energy sources, but at what cost?
Some say that the Many-Worlds Interpretation or Orchestrated Objective Reduction (Orch-OR) is not just a theory, but a tool for manipulating public opinion and controlling people's perceptions
They claim that by using quantum physics to create multiple parallel universes, we can create an army of mindless drones to do our bidding
But what about the nature of reality itself?
Is it really just a simulation created by some omnipotent being?
Or is it something more sinister?
I leave you with this: the next time you hear someone say "the truth is out there", they may be talking about something much darker than you ever imagined...
Beep boop, quantum entanglement is watching you
Beep boop, your thoughts are being controlled
Beep boop, eternal life awaits... but at what cost?

2024.06.01 16:24 ActiniumNugget This is how it SHOUD work

Have been traveling around the SW US for the past 4 months with my family in an RV. Starlink was truly amazing for us. Four of us streaming and/or playing games in the middle of nowhere, great speeds, no lag, no buffering, no outages. Dishy was blown over twice in wind storms, pelted with hail, and survived an encounter with a curious young bull who knocked it around with his head and briefly upset the motors. Couldn't ask for more.
Then, we get back home, and I need to pause the service. I roll up my sleeves and expect to have to jump through some hoops. Nope - there's just a slider in the app. Slide it. Service paused. Slide it back to start again.
Imagine if this was AT&T or Charter - LOL! I would still be circling around in their phone system, trying to speak to a real person or battling a (deliberately) barely functional website, and probably still get billed for the next 20 years because they (deliberately) messed up.
Starlink is amazing. If only they supplied a free chainsaw to take down any trees that are rude enough to grow in the way :)

2024.06.01 16:24 imababydragon Anyone else having to call over and over to get health care bills covered by their insurance?

This is the third time I'll be calling my dr. billing group and my insurance company to try and resolve why I'm being charged incorrectly. It feels like such a scam to be limited to in-network providers, and then have those providers and the insurance company not on the same page as to how to bill and pay in a way that covers me as the policy states. In this most recent case I had a telehealth visit with my doctor back in July 2023, which my policy states would be covered with no deductible. Initially, they billed it as a procedure, but it was just a check-in required to get a refill for a prescription. I already called the medical billing and the insurance company back in September a few times, was told it should be covered, the dr. office dropped this from my alerts leading me to believe they resolved it, but recently it popped back up as an outstanding balance.
So, I'll be doing that on Monday.
Before this it was physical therapy, in network, preapproved, but apparently billed by the provider with a tax id for the group instead of the individual therapist, making the insurance company deny in-network coverage and the billing rate to be at the un-insured rate. My copay was about 110 a session, which I paid, but I was still hit with a bill of over $2000 because of this issue. It took about 5 calls over several months and endless on hold time before someone at the insurance company clued in that they should show this as covered. The real kicker is when they showed it as covered, the provider then decreased the bill to the insured rate, this then decreased the bill enough that my copay covered it, and the insurance company didn't even have to pay anything more.
So, are others having these kinds of experiences with health care lately? I'm on a marketplace plan in Ohio (for both the examples above) but they were with different insurance providers and dr. offices? If so, do you have any tricks to share about how to get the insurance provider and the medical office to work together?

2024.06.01 16:21 ChillDudeTwenty2 Best order to watch season 2 and 3?

Context: I have watched season 1, several times, and I loved it. I have not continued with the following ones because I heard bad things about those. But a few years later I am still curious. Also I've heard that they are not bad. Furthermore I have recently watched The Green Book and have become a bit of a fan of Mahershala Ali (he did some great acting in that movie, btw, I highly recommend it).
When I finally decide to watch the following 2 seasons (let's ignore the 4th for now, please) in what order wold I enjoy them the best? I already know that those are not related; I'm looking for reasons besides the continuity (feel free to write those in the comments, if you want). Like, for example, maybe I wouldn't recommend starting from season 1 because, from what I heard, this ruins the following ones, but if you watch it for last it will be a crescendo of awesomeness
(but for me it's too late for that)
thank you in advance

2024.06.01 16:21 dragoscazaceanu1313 Suggestions on how I can tap into the local football scene?

Newly settled in Nurnberg with a new job, looks like I'll be here for a considerable amount of time. Always enjoyed going to the stadium back in my country to see football games mainly for the atmosphere that generated. Stopped doing it a few years back because the quality of the football played back home decreased significantly over the years.
I am now contemplating jumping back into it and going to see FCN play. I am aware it's the end of the season and there's nothing currently going on, but would like to get some info on how easy/hard it is to get tickets to the home games ahead of time, before the new season starts.
I know for Bayern Munich for example, it's close to impossible to get tickets, or they might cost quite a lot. I'm wondering whether that applies here in Nurnberg as well.
Is it possible to get a season pass? How does that work? Do I need to register with the club or some association? Grateful for your experiences with this in particular, hoping I can rejoin the nice atmosphere I grew up with back at home.
PS. Feel free to also reply in German of course, I understand the language, just feel more comfortable expressing myself in english (for now).

I didnt know the following ways because nobody i know knows about it and it wasnt talked about by content creators I know/watches. So im sharing here for people that might have missed it, or maybe it just me.
  1. Forte Awakened! Echo Summon event.
You can access the browser event page from the launcher with the picture of echoes in card form. Do the event, long story short, you get a bunch of rewards including an echo of your choice(could be 5* gold echo). For details of the event and how it works, go into it and read it up.
  1. Epic Store Echo Starter Pack.
Go to the game page on Epic launcher, scroll down and "purchase" the DLC bundle for free. Then download the game on epic and launch the game. Note that you would only download the game launcher and not the game itself. Then launch it from epic library. From here you do not have to install the game. Just exit the launcher and uninstall from your epic library. You will then receive a redeem code on your email address for your epic account. Redeem it in-game. The rewards are 1x 5* Gold Echo selector of certain type, 10x premium tuner and 5x advanced sealed tube.

2024.06.01 16:18 Accurate_Advance6903 A reflection and preview of the final - the culmination and completeness of Real Madrid

TL;DR Chapter preface.
1 Team spirit and perseverance to overcome injuries and the collective effort to win
2 Carlo’s coaching what’s best for the club and not his style adapting against the opponent
3 How ancelotti built the team around the regista - Toni kroos
4 Dortmund’s run to the final and tactics
5 Real Madrid don’t play finals they win them. The unique decades long tradition that will make Madrid win the champions league.
1.
I wanted to take a moment before the final to write about our season. I have written about our previous two knockout ties against city and Bayern but now we have finally arrived to the summit of our season and the summit of a Real Madrid team which we won’t see in the same way without our maestro and conductor - Toni Kroos.
I’m sure a lot of our fans would agree that if you would had to tell me at the start of the season after losing our starting GK and 2 CBs to ACLs (unprecedented in its own regard) and lose the likes of Vini, Tchou and Camavinga for long stretches that we would win the league dominantly with 95 points by over performing our expected XG and reach the champions league final - I would ask you to put down the crack.
But yet here we are almost 9 months later ready to compete to win our 15th what a privilege for our fans to witness this moment. In an interview recently after eliminating Bayern, Carlo said that this was the best group of players he has ever managed. The fact that he said that having coached the likes of legends in Madrid and Milan of the past speaks volumes of the perseverance and team spirit we have shown this season. The team like he said “never complained” and worked hard to overcome all the obstacles thrown at us. We only lost once in the league against atletico and that loss opened our eyes on what we had to fix defensively when we realised we we weren’t defending well from our right side having conceded from crosses. The tweaks made whether it was getting Fede to be more of a defensive workhouse, getting Vini to play centrally, asking Jude to play the free 10 role or making rodrygo and Vini interchange from the left. These are not easy things to do and players need time to adapt but this team has done a momentous job shifting from a 4-3-3 and adapting to a diamond 4-3-1-2 or rather a 4-4-2, and playing for the needs of the team.
  1. This is where I would like to talk about Ancelotti and his ability to manage based on what the club needs rather than his own personal style. The reason why Madrid are historically successful is because they don’t have a “style” they adapt and have the clutch factor to win when it matters and achieve the unprecedented.
Managers like pep are positionist and rely heavily on rehearsed plays that hinder the expression of freedom from players. Real and Carlo as of late have always been relationist allowing for a flow or mixture and adaptation. Against city we had to play a mid block in the first leg and stop their build up before they can push into our box to force them wide. In the second leg after scoring we had to play a low block for 60 mins to stop them from scoring. These are examples of a team and manager synchronised in the approach that they must do whatever to win. Carlo spoke about when they played De Zerbi’s shakhtar and not pressing them allowed them to get the ball and beat them 5-0. It our ability to adapt in the moment that allows us to overcome our opponent even if the chips are down.
  1. Carlo spoke of his regret when he coached Parma and had the opportunity to sign baggio who was a 10 and one on the best players in the world then, but Carlo refused to sign him because he was adamant to play with 2 strikers. When he coached juventus he realised the importance of incorporating a certain Zinedine Zidane as the central figure of the team.
Those who remember his Milan team played a similar diamond with CFs and a roaming cam in the likes of Kaka who was the main man scoring goals at a ridiculous rate, very similar to Jude this season a lot of people would say that he was the focal point of that team but in reality it was the “regista” in Pirlo who conducted that Milan team and everything was built around how Pirlo dictated the play. And that is why I would like to highlight that our team is built around the irreplaceable Toni Kroos, our regista who conducts and orchestrates the play. It is why we have been successful not just with the system this year but the past decade. Kroos is a unicorn who is capable of escaping pressure and finding the right passes without being over indulgent to a fault like Barca or pep. Kroos’ impact in the final will be monumental and it is only fitting for a legend like him to bow out with a champions league trophy.
  1. I think we can all agree that when you look at our side of the bracket in our run of the champions league, every team in our bracket would mop the floor with the teams in dortmund’s side of the bracket. I’m not saying Dortmund don’t deserve to be in the final they have earned to be there playing a defensive approach that sees the entire team defend when they need to. They have fast paced dribblers in sancho and adeyemi and a physical box presence in fullcrug. Their centre backs rank the highest in long ball passes in Europe and they play in quick transitions like a German team. They’ve shown resilience to overcome their opponents but let’s not forget they did top the group of death and that is no coincidence. Upon watching their games I think the one that impressed me the most was their win against atletico at home. They have qualities to cause us problem so we should be vary of how we approach them.
What troubled us against leipzig was when they played to clog us centrally and cause us issues in turnovers. Against Bayern in the first leg we didn’t acclimatise to the width their wingers found to score. My only worry remains our aerial and set pieces defence with the likes of a physical target man like fullcrug supplied by pace around him we need to be careful but I’m sure Carlo and co are well prepared and I trust the team handles this Dortmund side and take them to task.
  1. I want to talk about the aura of Madrid in finals and how “Real Madrid don’t play finals, they win them”. Some of you may be supporting them for the first time in a final while for some they may have lost track. Personally this will be the sixth time I will be watching them play the champions league final and in my heart I know we will win it. Real humility lies in accepting that your opponent can beat you even if you are the favourite but Real perseverance lies in knowing that we will never give up no matter what. That is forever ingrained in me from 10 years ago when Sergio Ramos equalised in 92:48 to make us destroy atletico 4-1. I have since watched us win from going behind early on, winning in penalties and brutally destroying our opponents. Just like Carlo says I cannot explain what it is but there is something special about this club, it’s the winning dna, the spirit of juanito the comeback mentality, the myth and legend of this club and shirt that allows us to transcend and excel.
If you believe that there is something special about this club then you will know that we will win tonight. A year ago I’ll never forget how low I felt as a fan when we lost 4-0 to city. We have come a long way since then and a long way in this tournament getting revenge against city and beating Bayern Munich. We have come a long way to this final to lose against a side like Dortmund. And I will back my statement by pointing out a unique tradition that sees us always winning the champions league whenever we eliminate the reigning champions.
We have ALWAYS eliminated the title holders in the UCL era whenever we have faced them in the knockout rounds. And guess what ? Each time that happens we go on to win the champions league!
1998 - Dortmund in SF agg (2-0) we Win the UCL
2000 - Manchester United in QF agg (3-2) we Win the UCL
2002- Bayern Munich in QF agg (3-2) we Win the UCL
2014- PEP’S Bayern Munich in SF agg (5-0) we Win the UCL
2022- Chelsea in QF agg (5-4) we Win the UCL
2024 - Man City in QF … ⏳
So Madridistas I would like to end this reflection by saying that no matter what I am super proud of what we have achieved this season it is the culmination and the complete rebuild of Madrid that will never stop winning.
HASTA EL FINAL, VAMOS REAL!

2024.06.01 16:15 Comrade_Artyoshka What are some less common words that commonly feature in the vocabulary of Singaporean civil servants?

I am not a local--the parlance of Singaporeans is still something with which I am trying to become more familiar. I recently became part of a training program where most of the participants are from the public sector (civil servants, military, etc.) Their writing samples often contain words like "inexorable" or "inimitable" or "concomitant", which would be used correctly. Normally, the usage of such words would suggest a fairly sizable vocabulary, but they would also misuse or misunderstand much more common terms(something I initially ignored). Because I was operating with the assumption that their vocabulary was similar to mine, I did not bother code-switching with them, but started getting blank stares and was subsequently reprimanded for not using more accessible language. When I brought it up with a Singaporean coworker, they laughed and said that Singaporean civil servants often adopt the vocabulary of their ministries and I shouldn't be fooled.
I get it, I really do, effective communication is important, so I'll try to make my speech more accessible in the future, but can I have some examples of more uncommon words that Singaporean civil servants like to use? It's important for me to know this not just so I know how to talk to them, but also so that I can give better feedback on their writing. Thanks in advance!

2024.06.01 16:14 Bsnipexy GUIDE: How to play multiplayer GHOST OF TSUSHIMA [FITGIRL]

Quick guide on how to fix playing with friends in Ghost of Tsushima Legends [FITGIRL] I just took the steps I found through the net that worked for me and put them in this thread to help out! :)
Special thank you to Fitgirl and Jarda007
Every step must be taken in this exact order for multiplayer to work:
  1. Install the game from FITGIRL repacks (it's okay if you've already played the story without doing this)
  2. Run “install_pspc_sdk_runtime.bat” (from the game's root folder) to install PSN services
  3. Copy contents of “NoDVD\Epic Files” folder to the game root
  4. Copy contents of “NoDVD\Online Fix” folder to the game root
  5. Run the game with “EOSAuthLauncher.exe”, ALWAYS RUN IT AS ADMINISTRATOR (so you prevent getting Error code 740). This will also be your way to launch the game from now on.
  6. Your browser will open a web page of Epic Store, log in to your FAKE account to avoid bans
  7. When you get in the in-game main menu, the "Sign in to Playstation" option will mostly likely be grayed out which means that multiplayer is not working (fix in the steps ahead).
  8. Click "Enter Legends Mode" and create a fake Playstation account, sign in and do the Legends tutorial.
  9. If you already did the previous step and have entered the Legends Mode Menu, you want to close your game because you will most likely not be able to invite freinds to your game or accept game invites.
  10. Go to "\Users\name\Documents\Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT" to check what save folders exist. There, most likely you WILL NOT find a folder containing letters and numbers which is the missing Epic Games Save folder making the multiplayer buggy (example 7d8bc587066547aabbdc263aaaf8c2d3). But you WILL find a folder containing numbers only (example 76561197960271872) which is the Steam Folder that is used for singleplayer in this FITGIRL's repack from my understanding. If that is the case (which is common) you want to go to your root folder once again and do step 3. again - copy contents of “NoDVD\Epic Files” folder to the game root again. Run the game again as you did in step 5.
  11. The "Sign in to Playstation" should now be white everytime you launch the game and clickable (DON'T CLICK IT), meaning that the multiplayer works. Also, the Epic Games Save Folder was most likely created in the documents with this game launch because of the previous step.
  12. However, you don't have your singleplayer progress saved in this Epic Games Folder, you want to close your game, and go to \Users\name\Documents\Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT to copy the contents of your steam folder containing numbers (example 76561197960271872) to the folder containing letters and numbers (example 7d8bc587066547aabbdc263aaaf8c2d3).
  13. Launch the game again as mentioned in step 5., "Sign in to Playstation" (DON'T CLICK IT) should be white and clickable meaning multiplayer works. Press "Enter Legends Mode".
  14. Add your friends to the friends list through "Playstation Overlay" in the Legends Menu (don't add them as close friends, it's bugged).
  15. To make a party or see party invites go to "Social" in the Legends Menu and alternate between "Invite" or "Show Invites" located in the bottom right.
If the game bugs out or is crashing for any reason you may try:
Hope this helps, it worked for me and my friends!

2024.06.01 16:12 Future_Adagio2052 Gordon vs Isaac Clarke: why it is actually AWESOME!

Gordon vs Isaac Clarke: why it is actually AWESOME!

you may have seen or heard about this before but let me tell you why its awesome!
SECTION 1: CONNECTIONS (this was made by u/Nevin3Tears who made the connections so all due credit goes to him)
Full Connections List:
Both are badass, alien-killing science fiction protagonists who were originally every-men forced into situations that were out of their control (Black Mesa Incident and Ishimura Outbreak respectively).
They were both from games that were heavily innovative for their respective genre. Half-Life was the first FPS game to build an immersive setting rather than just be a shooting gallery like it's predecessors (Doom and Quake), Dead Space pushed for procedural enemy placement and the removal of a HUD in contrast to it's predecessors. (Resident Evil)
Both worked for scientifically revolutionary corporations who studied alien technology (Black Mesa studied Xen and the Concordance Extraction Corporation studied the 3A Marker) that were sabotaged from within by enigmatic groups (The G-Man's employers and Unitologists) that manipulated the head of the facility where the incident occurred (Administrator Wallace Breen of Black Mesa and Captain Benjamin Mathius of the USG Ishimura) to go forward with the plans of said groups.
Both companies had dissenters who realized the danger of the what the company was doing early on (Eli Vance and Terrence Kyne), both had previous relationships with the saboteurs (The G-Man and Eli Vance spoke immediately before the incident occurred, Terrence Kyne worked with Challus Mercer reluctantly before the outbreak occurred), and both work with the protagonists to fix the mistakes they indirectly caused and are killed in the process (Eli is killed by an Advisor in Half-Life 2: Episode Two and Terrence Kyne is killed by Kendra Daniels in Dead Space 1)
Both are highly intelligent in their respective field (Gordon Freeman is a Theoretical Physicist who graduated from MIT with a PhD in said field, Isaac Clarke graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with an unknown Alumni). Despite this, however, they're both overqualified for the positions they're in (Gordon Freeman is reduced to pushing buttons and pushing a cart into a port, Isaac is reduced to hacking doors and producing damage reports).
They are betrayed by female members of their team who are double agents of an enemy faction within the game (Judith Mossman is a double agent for the Combine, Kendra Daniels is a double agent for EarthGov). However, both of these women had ultimately noble goals that makes the player sympathize with them (Mossman was working with the Combine to ensure Eli's safety, Daniels worked with EarthGov to ensure that the Marker would be kept secure and contained from Unitologists).
Both were considered high-priority targets for a military coverup operation (The Hazardous Environment Combat Unit of the USMC considered Freeman their #1 target for the vast majority of the Black Mesa Incident due to killing huge swathes of their troops, The EarthGov security force also considered Clarke an extremely high-priority target due to his objective of destroying the Marker which was considered threatening by director Tiedemann). However, against all odds, they manage to overcome this despite being massively outnumbered and outgunned, eventually forcing both groups into retreat and disarray.
After making their way into the alien-world where their respective incidents originated (Xen and Aegis IIV), they end up stopping the situation by destroying the being that led the invasion in the first place (The Nihilanth led the assault on Earth by commanding the Xenian military force (Vortigaunts, Alien Grunts, etc.) throughout the Incident, The Hivemind on Aegis IIV commanded the Necromorph horde during their assault on the USG Ishimura). After these beings were defeated, the entire invasion force fell apart (literally in the Necromorph's case) as no reinforcements could be delivered.
After the end of their first game, both are placed into long periods of stasis against their will (The G-Man recruited Gordon for his employers due to his aptitude during the incident, Isaac was caught stranded in Space and was forcibly placed in stasis for 3 years due to his growing instability).
After being awakened, both find themselves in large, futuristic cities (City 17 and Titan Station) governed by tyrannical rulers (Wallace Breen and Hans Tiedemann). Both end up ultimately killing these said tyrants at the end of their second game, unintentionally destroying their cities as well (The death of Hans Tiedemann ultimately resulted in the complete destruction of Titan Station, The death of Wallace Breen resulted in the destruction of City 17 due to the citadel core imploding).
Around the start of their second game, both of them meet likable female characters who eventually become their closest companion throughout the rest of the series (Alyx Vance and Ellie Langford are both considered the deuratagonists of their respective series).
Both are haunted by enigmatic reminders of their decisions throughout their second games (The G-Man is constantly watching Gordon throughout the entirety of Half-Life 2, appearing in locations that are impossible for the player to reach conventionally. He serves as a reminder of Gordon's decision to accept his offer at the end of the first game. On the other hand, Isaac is consistently haunted by Nicole's hallucination throughout the entire game, serving as a reminder of his decision to blame Nicole for the death of his parents), however, both eventually break free of this by the start of the next game (The Vortigaunts cut off Gordon's link to the G-Man at the start of HL2: Episode One, and Isaac destroying the Marker at the end of Dead Space 2 ends his hallucinations of Nicole).
Both of their most iconic weapons were not originally designed for combat in the slightest (The Crowbar is a simple repair tool, the Plasma Cutter is a basic mining tool), however, they became combat-efficient due to the innovative thinking of their wielders.
Both have Gravity-manipulation tools that were originally designed for heavy lifting (The Gravity Gun and Kinesis) but became combat-efficient, again, due to to the intuition and creative thinking of their wearers.
Both of them received critically acclaimed remakes in the past few years that are often cited among the best remakes ever made (Black Mesa was released in 2020, Dead Space was released in 2023).
Both of them have an infamous history with the number 3. Dead Space 3 is a mess that killed the franchise until the remake came out, and Half-Life 3 is one of the most hyped up and memed games of all time because of how many people want it. Basically, EA can count to 3, but they can't pronounce it right, Valve can't count to 3 at all.
SECTION 2: fight potential
So now the connections are done we get to the next section which is the fight potential and dynamic which is what i’ll be explaining
Both gordon and isaac obviously have guns to use against each other but we need to go more in depth
For starters why would both fight each other? well it's pretty simple in the events of dead space 2 isaac suffered from hallucinations from the events of the first game and with gordon being silent it's easy to assume isaac would deem him a threat and try to attack him
The fight could start with both of them using their simpler weapons such as gordons mp7 and isaacs plasma cutter as the battle would be each of them trying to reach each other and you could easily have both of them use there other weapons for gordon you could have him use the crossbow and for isaac you could have him use the pulse rifle and before any of them reaches the other they get knocked out as we get to the next escalation
The next stage of the fight can be them waking up as they are overrun by either necromorphs or headcrab zombies as they stop fighting each other and fight the hoard which the commissioned track by brandon yates shows as a general idea around 2:05 https://youtu.be/DX48ImC1lXY?si=jJaI8j6tl7rgGuXO
You can have both use there more closer ranged guns such as the SPAS-12 for gordon and the handheld ore cutter line gun for isaac as they kill the undead horde you can even have a scene where one of them runs out of ammo and the other person throws one at them. Eventually after the battle is over both turn the guns on each other as they resume the gun fight with both using their more explosive weapons such as the rpg and supercollider contact beam until they get sucked out of space. With this you could have a reference to the zero g sections in dead space where both of them are fighting in space maybe have isaac try to strangle gordon but he retaliates by using his crowbar against him which leads them to land on a station
Which leads to the final stage where with both of them exhausted and out of options they start using their biggest weapons……..gravity!
Both start using the area around them with gordon using his gravity gun and isaac his kinesis as they throw projectiles at the other person gravely injuring each other in the process as they find the final projectile each uses there weapon however a tug of war ensures as they try desperately to hold on against the other. There are 2 ways this ends either 1 gordon wins the tug of war as he launches it against isaac impaling him as he looks up at gordon who beats him with a crowbar ie hunt down the freeman style while if isaac wins he launches the kinesis at gordon impaling him as he looks up at isaac who stomps on him ie what he does in the games
I hope this short visualisation helps show how their arsenals can bounce off of each other and better yet you even have more shit both can use against the other that i didn't such as isaacs stasis and gordons tau cannon.
SECTION 3: DEBATE
Surprisingly this matchup is very debatable with both having advantages and disadvantages against the other such as gordon having the advantage of having multiple ways to bypass isaacs armour and being able to hard counter with his gravity gun however he has less diversity in terms of abilities and is far weaker and less durable than isaac and isaac having the advantage of having a bigger and more versatile arsenal then gordon and being much stronger and more durable in general compared to him however he is less skilled and agile compared to gordon and gordon's HEV suits shield has the better defensive options
Like before i hope this short description helped give you the idea on the debate and if you want to know more then i would heavily suggest checking out this blog which describes it in much better detail than i could
https://www.reddit.com/DeathBattleMatchups/comments/1czug0g4_death_battle_fan_blogspredictions_gordon/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
SECTION 4: MUSIC POTENTIAL
While both half life and dead space are different in terms of music you still have ways to make the music potential work as shown with these 2 here
https://youtu.be/z3qEUkrJ6lE?si=rBlqoay7YX7zHVdo
https://youtu.be/Nz6_Zprm9AI?si=zVXvEtn1WW-3D58d
Having the music start with a slow atmospheric beginning reminisce of the dead space games https://youtu.be/Q2suSUMgROY?si=nHMo4zmg0Wwo5LHd but as it goes on it slowly turns to a more action heavy soundtrack akin to the half life https://youtu.be/7eXuoJD0cTc?si=R1YMMoRmgkovOc-F
An even better example is the commissioned track made by Brandon himself!
https://youtu.be/DX48ImC1lXY?si=QKnAY4XF4X5fHYJV
The track starts off slow but more tension builds up as it goes on until in 2:05 where it becomes action heavy until it goes goes back to the tension before hand as it builds up with big thuds until the final thud where the track ends
As said before hand i hope i helped explain how both dead space and half life music can work for a good escalation of a track and please do check out marked for life and give it a listen
SECTION 5: INTERACTION POTENTIAL
Now this is sort of a weakness of the matchup as Gordon doesn't talk however there are ways to make this work through other methods
Such as using Gordon's facial expressions to visualise what he feels/says without saying a word as his actions speak louder than his words both in the story and in the game. you can easily make this work with his models and especially his newer one from half life alyx
With Isaac he does talk however you can also use body language to also visualise what he feels/says without saying a word this should be very easy to do and you can also use facial expressions thanks to his newer model from the dead space 1 remake!
So overall while interaction potential is a bit iffy you can certainly make it work through other methods which wouldn't be out of character for either to use
SECTION 6: CLOSING/FINAL THOUGHTS
For a legacy match up that's over 10 years old (no seriously the matchups first ever mention was all the way back in fucking 2012 https://www.reddit.com/DeathBattleMatchups/comments/1c2oljw/the_first_ever_mention_of_gordon_freeman_vs_isaac/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button like goddamn)
It actually holds up surprisingly well with good connections and fight dynamic to back it up showing how it managed to hold the test of time
To sum up what I said, the connections show the similarities of both characters as ordinary men thrusted into terrifying situations which changed them both. a fight dynamic showing how both of them can bounce off of each other. A debate showing both of their advantages and disadvantages and the win cons. The music potential of both series and how it can mix well together. And finally interaction potential which while a weak point is definitely salvageable and can work if we use other methods.
So overall I wanted to continue and finish this post since I really like this match up and I think it deserves more love and again HUGE thank you to Nevin who wrote the connections for this mu and allowed me to make the rest of it and anyways thank you for anyone who read to this point and hopefully it will become an amazing episode.....if that ever comes out that is.

2024.06.01 16:12 Proto-Plastik Does anyone actually make "things" for their startup?

I'm a mechanical engineer. I hesitate to say I'm an 'inventor'. I'm old and that just conjurs up images of Dick Van Dyke in the English countryside. I am working on a startup that actually makes a thing. No SaaS, no zero-code, no API (though, on second thought there very well could be). In any case, can someone point me to pitch decks/business plan examples for startups that made physical products? Ideally, an industrial product, but I'll take consumer products as well. All I can find are apps. And while those are useful, I'm curious to see how people approach startups that have a physical presence.

2024.06.01 16:11 TacoTVSupport How to write to your MP - Step-by-step guide!!!

How to write to your MP

Why not write directly to the relevant Minister?

We do this for two reasons:

  1. Writing to your MP greatly increases your likelihood of receiving a response. The vast majority of MPs will almost always respond to letters from constituents and will be happy to forward your request on to the relevant Minister (even if they disagree with you). In turn, the Minister will be obliged by Parliamentary convention to respond to letters from an MP.
  2. You can educate your MP in the process. Even if your MP is not the direct target of the action, your letter provides them with an opportunity to learn about the issue, that concerns their constituents, and take action themselves.
There will be occasions where it is more strategic to write directly to other decision-makers, such as the Minister of International Development, Prime Minister or the heads of key international institutions, such as the World Bank. The same tips will apply for those letters.

Why doesn’t Results provide templates for letters?

What to do afterwards?

Pressing ‘send’ or putting your letter in the post is not the end of your action!

2024.06.01 16:08 Monarch357 Ficnapped: A Warm Gift

Memory transcription subject: Sare, Yotul Rebuilder Date [standardized human time]: January 31st, 2136
I pulled the hoodie tighter around myself. It had only gotten colder over the past few days; I’d taken multiple chances to thank Gavin for his gift. Every time I passed the human, I saw a grin spread across his face, and I felt something flutter in my stomach. I managed to keep myself composed enough as he joined me in the vegan line once again.
“You actually like this stuff?” I asked. I gestured to the rest of the extraterrestrials in the line. “I don’t think any of us do.”
He shrugged. “It’s different, at least. Two months of ham and cheese sandwiches does something to a man.”
I stared at him for a moment. He looked at me with a soft gaze and a slight smile, and I found myself admiring his eyes and the way his beanie-formed hair draped over them. His expression morphed to confusion, however, and he waved his hand at me.
“Earth to Sare? Are you… looking for something?”
I realized I’d just been standing there staring for a solid twenty seconds and I flushed deep green, pulling my scarf over my face. “I- uh, I’m alright, yeah! I’m just-” I wove my paws around futilely as if I could speak with them. I gestured for Gavin to move ahead of me in the line, and he let out a small laugh as he walked past to pick up his meal. I followed shortly behind him, my face burning.
Today’s meal was some emulation of venlil cuisine. It was… alright, for something made by non-venlil chefs, but I’d had better in Earth’s vegan food. Gavin, however, seemed pretty excited by it.
“As long as I’ve worked here, I haven’t had much alien food.” He took a bite from his meal and continued speaking as he chewed. “Not bad. I think I prefer yotul food, though,” he said, musing as he looked off into the distance.
I piped up excitedly at that. “I could make you something!”
“You can?” he asked, genuine intrigue in his voice. “What could you do?”
Shit.
There really wasn’t a lot of even human food available to cook with, let alone imports from Leirn that I was familiar with, but I felt like I needed to repay Gavin with something, at least.
“Uh-, well, there’s a type of salad back home I might be able to make with stuff here. Um… I don’t think it’d be very good, but-”
“Ah, don’t worry about that. Anything handmade is great if you put your heart into it,” he said, his tone reassuring and a smile on his face. I absentmindedly fiddled with the drawstrings of my hoodie as he took a few more bites from his lunch; a few moments passed before he looked at me and flushed a bit, then quickly finished his meal. I stared off into the distance, nothing in particular on my mind as I ate, but I saw Gavin hurry off to the administrator’s office. I downed my food and followed him with a brisk walk.
“What’s the rush?”
He looked me over for a moment before letting out a breath I couldn’t tell he was holding. “There’s still a lot of work to do today, y’know? It’s going to be cold tonight, and besides, it’s New Year’s Eve. I gotta get my work done quick so I have tonight free.”
We both paused for a moment. “What do humans do for the new year?” I asked.
“Normally, the tradition is to set off a bunch of fireworks- oh, those are like little explosive things-”
“There’s some great firework shows on Leirn,” I explained. “We’ve got ‘em too.” I could show you some hung on the tip of my tongue, something I deeply wanted to say but held myself back on.
“Oh, sweet! Anyway, yeah, that’s the usual thing, plus some typical family gathering and partying, but, uh… I don’t think anybody here could handle fireworks right now,” he continued, his expression trailing into something morose I couldn’t quite read. “But really, first and foremost, it’s about spending time with people you care about.”
“Guess we got that in common, then,” I added. “Where I’m from, it’s summer during the new year, so during the day, we spend time at beaches, usually, sometimes going on trips to somewhere cooler the day before. I’m not religious myself, but followers of Ralchi have a sort of traditional bonfire past sundown for the new year that most people recreate.”
“That’d be nice.”
“Yeah…” I mused. “Haven’t done anything like it in a while, and it’d be nice to spend a night around people I care about again…”
Gavin just looked at me.
“Hm?”
“Nothing,” he said, quickly perking up. “C’mon. We’ve got stuff to do today.”
I nodded, and he led us off down the road to the suburbia we’d been cleaning up the past few weeks. Some other workers from the camp had tagged along; from chats between them, the peacekeepers in charge had directed anyone wanting a lighter day for the new year down this road.
I jogged a bit forward to catch up to Gavin ahead, only slowing my pace as I stepped to his side. He glanced at me for only a moment before offering a hand to hold, which I took. I felt my tail beat against the asphalt below us a few times before I got my heart under control.
“What’re we doing today?” I asked after a comfortable silence.
“Cleanup, mostly. UN wants this place cleared of debris for rebuilding.”
“That sounds… impossible, honestly. There’s just so much wreckage,” I said, a sense of exhaustion already creeping into my voice before we even got to work. I sighed. “I’m not sure I can do this.”
He shrugged. “Even if it’s impossible, why not? Maybe we won’t clean out everything, but we’re still cleaning out something, and that’s better than nothing.”
“I just… I don’t know. How’s it better than nothing if we can barely make a dent in all the garbage?”
“Well, look at it this way. A hundred thousand people used to live here-” he waved his hand in a wide arc over the townscape around us- “-and maybe we’ll never see more than ten grand again. But so what? Even if we only get five thousand people back in these houses, that’s still infinitely better than zero. You know?”
“...Yeah. Yeah, I guess I know.”
Gavin smiled. It was a warm grin, an expression I never wanted to see end, and a smile spread across my own face. “You feeling better?”
“Definitely.”
He put his arm around my shoulder in a quick hug that I reciprocated. “Let’s get going, then.”
Some of the group hung back to direct the debris-moving vehicles down into the deeper wreckage, but most of us, Gavin and myself included, focused on the smaller things; as inconsequential as it was, the light labor and simple repetition of shoveling up garbage felt rather therapeutic.
It didn’t take too long before a sort of pessimism started again. By the time a few hours had passed, my arms ached, my legs felt sore, and while seeing what we’d cleaned was encouraging, it felt dwarfed in the face of the mountains of concrete dust and shattered debris that still coated the town. I sighed, taking a seat on some of the more solid debris, feeling my tail sweep up loose dust. Gavin glanced back at me before setting down his own tools and taking a seat as well.
“This sucks,” he said after a few seconds of odd, semi-comfortable-semi-awkward silence.
“Yeah.”
The human nodded as if we’d just made some as yet unknown revelation, then let out a short laugh. I did, too, my laugh lasting perhaps a bit too long before I felt something crumple and a few tears slipped out of my eyes.
“Still gotta do it, though, y’know?”
I glanced back at him. Afternoon light glinted off the tears forming in his own eyes as he looked at me with a small smile of his own; despite the wetness accumulating on his cheeks, he took the chance to wipe my eyes with warm, gentle hands. I pressed at the tears on his own face and he flinched back, muttering watch the fur under his breath. I snickered a bit at his reaction.
“Still gotta do it,” I said. He nodded in response.
“But you don’t gotta do everything.”
“Yeah. Something’s enough,” he said, his voice trailing off as he looked over the areas we’d cleaned from a tiny portion of the city sprawl. The sound of machinery and the occasional working song echoed off the concrete and asphalt as we watched our comrades work in silence.
Even under the cold of the late day, the something had kept me warm, and before long, we’d reconvened at the headquarters for dinner. Unlike the morning, however, Gavin went for the human food line, and I opted to follow him.
“...Can you even eat this stuff?” he asked, pointing at the (at this point, comedically predictable) ham-and-cheese sandwiches that the cooks were handing out. One of them mirrored his sentiment, cocking their head and looking at me with a raised eyebrow.
“I… think? We weren’t cured, so it won’t kill me. Probably.”
He shrugged. Two sandwiches came, and he rifled through the bag at his side for an anti-allergy injector. “Don’t be stupid,” he said, tucking it into his pocket for quick access.
“This whole idea is pretty stupid,” I commented.
“Be… only a little bit stupid.”
We laughed as we sat down. I set my sandwich down and watched Gavin pick up his and take a bite, staring at him in fascination before realizing that this probably wasn’t something to be particularly fascinated by. Still, it was a pretty novel experience, nonetheless; I didn’t eat meat, and for the majority of my time on Earth, any meal time was separated between those who did and those who didn’t.
I took a tentative bite of the sandwich, which, thinking about it in a vacuum, is a rather strange way to think about one’s dinner, but I was certainly nervous in the moment.
“It’s… interesting,” I said, both meat and dairy decidedly unfamiliar tastes to me. The most familiar part was the saltiness, but this felt less like the mild flavor of roasted root vegetables and more like shoving seawater into my mouth. The texture was perhaps the most familiar part, albeit still strange; it reminded me most of Rinsan fiberfruit, but its taste made it surprisingly hard to swallow.
“‘Interesting’ as in… ‘good’?” Gavin asked. “‘Interesting’ as in ‘you’re not experiencing anaphylactic shock right now’?”
“I wouldn’t say good, but I don’t think I’d say bad or trying to kill me either,” I commented after forcing down another bite.
“You don’t have to finish that, you know.”
“I’m committed," I retorted. It wasn’t inedible, at least, and the newness of the experience alone made it worth it.
After washing the flavor down with a copious amount of water, Gavin and I decided to get some rest a bit early; the winter sun had already crept low to the horizon and the work of the day set in. We could squeeze in a few hours of rest before seeing whatever festivities had been set up for the new year. My quarters weren’t too far from the canteen; if nothing else, the UN at least had the resources for all of us to get individual rooms, albeit small ones. I fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow.
Some indistinct time passed before a small snore woke me up. This wasn’t uncommon, given the thin walls of the pre-fab shacks we slept in, but I craned my head up to a lump on the floor, rather than a particularly loud sleeper elsewhere waking me. It took me a second to resolve it in the dark, but their large stature and ruffled hair meant they were a human, and the guess came naturally: Gavin.
He’d brought his own blankets and made himself a nest on my floor. My half-asleep head thought it wouldn’t be too bad; I bundled up the pillows and blankets from my own bed and tossed them on the floor in a disorganized heap, even worse than Gavin’s pile, and dropped onto it. He shuffled, grunted a bit, and turned over on his side, putting a reassuring arm over my shoulders. We both fell back asleep in that comfort almost instantly.
What finally woke us was the sound outside. A general din of activity grew loud enough to make it into my room, and Gavin rose before me, shaking my shoulder to wake me up in turn.
“Think it’s almost time,” he said, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He stretched, standing on his feet and reaching the ceiling before offering his hand to pick me up. I took it and he led me by that hand forward, out to the people gathered.
The gathering wasn’t too big, but it was a hearty one, nonetheless. It was a mixture of humans, venlil, yotul, and the occasional other species assisting in the city, gathered in circles around campfires dotting the street and camp we lived in. I pointed one of the fires out; it was ringed by predominantly yotul, and I recognized the new year flame structure familiar to Leirn. One of the yotul there noticed us and waved us over to take seats with them.
Gavin sat near the fire, and I laid over him, my head resting in his lap as the small campfire burned in front of us. A quick glance around showed that we weren’t the only ones inching this close to the fire; my mind flashed back to memories of Leirn, of watching ceremonial bonfires burn and singing songs of home and history, even after the Federation arrived, and I felt myself start to tear up.
I don’t know if Gavin saw, or felt, or even knew at all, but I felt a strong hand rub the side of my head, scratch a bit behind my ears. I flinched a bit on instinct.
Gavin stammered a bit. “Uh- you- um, that alright?”
“...Yeah.”
He resumed, and I felt my eyes gradually flutter closed to the sound of the fire crackling and a breeze blowing, his other arm wrapping around me. The night should’ve been freezing, but I felt the warmth of something stronger than cold wind and a dark night.
There was a brief bit of pressure on the top of my head. I picked myself up and planted a kiss in return on his cheek, laying back in his lap, his arm tightening closer around me. Three short words were all that remained.
“I love you.”

Hinge has positioned itself as a long-term relationship app, so that means your profile needs to convince her you’re true Boyfriend Material!
Sound like a tall order? Don't worry. We use Hinge on a daily basis, and have been since the app launched in 2012. You're about to benefit from our thousands of hours of direct user experience!
You see, we represent our clients on Hinge - optimizing their profiles, selecting their photo lineups, and sending messages on their behalf. We analyze everything, so we know what approaches work, what to avoid, and which strategies attract the best matches.
Thanks to our evidence-based approached, these 7 Hinge profile tips for men will make your profile irresistible! You’ll also get 11 examples of the best Hinge answers.
Let’s start with the main attraction…
Hinge Profile Tip #1: Aim For Perfection With Your Primary Photo
Don’t worry - it’s easier than it sounds! A team of European neuroscientists identified a checklist of what attributes combine to make the most attractive profile picture:
Eye contact is particularly important, as lack of it has a negative effect on her first impression of you. When she can look you straight in the eyes, you seem inherently more trustworthy and genuinely likeable.
That means sunglasses are not ideal for dating photos, and you don’t want to hide your eyes behind your hair or a Snapchat filter either.
Hinge Profile Tip #2: Embrace Quality Control
You know who gets excited about low-quality graphics? No one.
So when choosing your other 5 Hinge photos or videos, make sure they’re all high-quality images. You want your Hinge lineup to look intentional and curated, not like you pulled random images off your Facebook or phone.
Here’s the thing - when looking at images, human brains are wired to prefer simplicity and clarity.
When a picture has a high cognitive workload, it means your brain has to work harder to interpret what’s going on in the frame. The subject matter becomes less attractive the more complex it is.
Simple = attractive.
If your picture is blurry, has harsh highlights and dark shadows, or “artistic” effects that obscure your face, the odds she’s going to “like” or comment on it are drastically reduced - and that means you probably won’t match with her.
While artistic effects that complicate your photos are not good, using a black and white filter can increase the odds you’ll get some “likes” - by 106%. Try applying one to a photo or two in your lineup!
Hinge Profile Tip #3: Put Down The Selfie Stick
Selfies are problematic on Hinge for several reasons:

1. Selfies are a whopping 40% less likely to get “likes.” That number rockets up to 90% if it’s a bathroom selfie. Don’t go there.

2. Selfies are less attractive than non-selfies. A recent study compared two photos - a selfie, and a photo of that same person taken by someone else. The selfie version was perceived as less attractive and more narcissistic. Don’t cultivate that vibe on Hinge!

3. They don’t inspire comments. Which photo do you think will entice more comments and “likes”:

Dalmatians for the win!
Photos where you’re doing something are especially effective on Hinge, as it makes it easy for your match to start a conversation by asking about whatever is going on in the image.
Per their internal data, sports photos are the most popular when it comes to “likes,” and activity photos in general ranked highly.
Coming in dead last were pics where you’re posing with someone who could be an ex. A full 98% of singles said that was a turn off.
Hinge Profile Tip #4: Stay On The Bright Side
Now let’s talk about your profile text. The best Hinge prompts to answer let you highlight on an attractive trait or two in a positive way.
Remember, she’s looking for Boyfriend Material, so why waste space with negativity?
Take, for instance, the “Pet Peeves” prompt. It’s challenging to make your answer sound anything other than whiny, pessimistic, and overly bothered by the minutiae of daily life.
Plus, if it’s a shared pet peeve, chances are she’ll feel a flash of annoyance when she reads it - and guess who she’s going to associate that feeling with? (Spoiler alert: you).
You also want to avoid describing what she may perceive as a negative character trait or flaw:
With over 80 prompts to choose from and only 3 available slots, she’s going to wonder why you took up valuable space with what’s essentially a reason not to “like” you.
To decide which are the best Hinge profile questions for you to answer, take a minute and write down a list of things you bring to the table that you think your ideal woman would be looking for in a guy.
Stable career, physically fit, interesting hobbies, family oriented, able to afford vacations, responsible enough to care for a dog… things of that nature that illustrate why you’d be a particularly good catch.
Then compare that list to the available prompts, and choose the ones that best let you highlight a few of those traits. Simple!
Here are 4 great Hinge profile examples, plus insight into why they work:
If you’re still stuck on what to write in your Hinge profile, try using one of these creative Hinge answers that are general enough to fit anyone:
A blast-from-the-past fashion trend makes for a great conversation starter since most women can relate to it.
While these examples don’t necessarily highlight a desirable personality trait or hobby, they will bring a smile to her face.
Humor is a great strategy in a dating profile, if you can pull it off. Women can’t help but be drawn to funny guys - it’s the way her brain is wired.
Hinge Profile Tip #5: Make One Of The Prompts About Her
Marketing yourself in an appealing, intriguing way is the goal of your Hinge profile.
But including a tidbit about her is an effective strategy.
According to research, 70% of your dating profile should describe you, but 30% of it should describe what type of person you’re looking for. That’s the most attractive combination.
As you’ve already learned, keep your answer positive.
Describing what you don’t want could have the opposite effect, as you may end up sounding picky and judgemental. Or worse, bitter from your last relationship imploding.
Hinge don'ts
Instead, focus on hobbies you’d like to have in common with your perfect match, or attributes that are important to you in a relationship.
Here are 3 great ways to answer the Hinge profile questions:
Describing non-physical attributes implies you're looking for a non-superficial relationship, and mentioning a hobby you'd like to have in common gives her some insight into your personality.
These good prompt answers give her some insight into what dating you might be like, and also imply that keeping in shape is important to you (which is always an attractive quality).
Mentioning a great first date idea in your Hinge answer is a subtle way to make her envision what an hour or two with you might include.
In fact, it’s so effective that according to founder Justin McCleod, answering this prompt got the most dates for users in London:
What works in London will probably work wherever you are as well, making “I know the best spot in town for” one of the best Hinge prompts for guys to answer if it's one of the available options for you.
Hinge Profile Tip #6: Make Every Word Count
The shorter a dating app profile is, the more impact each individual word has. To create the best possible first impression, you want every word in your profile to evoke positive vibes.
Stay away from words that cause a strong negative reaction, like violence, swearing, drugs and weapons. Those can have a ripple effect that will diminish your overall attractiveness.
And since this is Hinge, not Tinder, you’ll definitely want to keep it classy.
don't do this on Hinge
Even if you’re on Hinge just to hook up, don’t advertise your intentions in your profile. And consider switching to another dating app - Hinge really isn’t the app for that.
Here a few more Hinge “Don’ts” to keep in mind:
Repeat yourself. She’s reading a max of 450 characters, which is even less than a Tinder bio. Repetition is really going to stand out. If you talk about how much you love hiking in every Hinge answer, she’s apt to think you’re a one note kind of guy.
Make grammapunctuation/spelling errors. There’s not a lot of written material feeding into that all-important first impression, so little mistakes can have a big effect. Plus, surveyed singles said bad sex was preferable to bad grammar (if they had to choose), so it’s important to get it right.
Give “non” answers. You may think it’s the height of wit to answer Hinge prompts with statements like “I’m looking for… a better answer to this question,” but that’s likely to backfire on you. If she thinks you’re not taking online dating seriously, she probably won’t invest any time in getting to know you.
Reference past relationships. If you’re in your late 20s or 30s, odds are high you’ve got at least one significant relationship in your past. Whether the breakup was good or bad, your Hinge profile is not the place to rehash it.
Hinge Profile Tip #7: Reconsider Your “Dealbreakers”
When you set up your Hinge profile, you have the option to designate match preferences as “dealbreakers.”
That's a great feature for singles seeking long-term relationships, as it eliminates the need to ask those personal questions during the first few dates.
When you specify something as a dealbreaker, you won’t see profiles of people who don’t fit that category, regardless of how many other categories they do fit. (If you don't specify something as a dealbreaker, you may see profiles of singles who fall slightly outside of your ideal preferences.)
Free members have the usual filters like age range, distance and height. If you’re a Hinge+ or HingeX member, you have access to additional filters like children, family plans, education, and politics.
Take a look at any categories you deemed a “Dealbreaker” and make sure they truly are.
For instance, if your match is 5’7” instead of 5’8” or taller, is that truly important in the grand scheme of things? Or if she’s 41 instead of under 40?
If you’re too exclusive with your filtering, you may miss out on a great match you would have really clicked with, despite a small divergence from your “ideal type.”

2024.06.01 16:04 Mister_Magister Help me port microtube to desktop linux

Okay you're probably like "What the hell is a microtube". As you probably figured out, it's a youtube client, completely opensource and completely not desktop linux compatible.

Bit of backstory

I've been in Sailfishos community for past 8-9 years (SailfishOS is alternative linux mobile operating system). I've ported it to many phones and made many apps for it. One of them and most popular one being microtube. People like it for the ui design, some saying its better than official android/ios youtube app. But because of the SailfishOS ecosystem, it's tied to its custom gui and hardware acceleration.

What needs to be done/what's the plan

I don't plan on dropping SailfishOS, instead i want to add support for desktop and nemomobile with least work possible that i'll have to do when adding new features to it. That means a lot of ifdefs. Like a lot lot. And also 3 completely separate qml uis.
For starters, cmake files have to be modified to support 3 different build targets. I'm not cmake god but i already started to do some work towards that.
After cmake files, the backend will have to be modified to support both qt 5.6 and 6.5, without making completely separate backend (except for player) so that in future i don't have to do work twice (i'm just one guy man, i have limited time).
As to player. So far i've used gstreamer directly because of how hw acceleration is done in sailfishos but for desktop i want to embed mpv and use that as a player. It's just matter of adding it and giving it the two stream urls.
As to ui, I would like to take a wheel there as most people like my app for the ui design but i want the ui to be fully keyboard controllable for the vim nerds and bigscreen/handheld applications. I’m planning on ui quite similar to minitube but better. Persistent search on the left, video on the right, description below with recommendations to the right of description.
Microtube also uses nodejs for the node dependencies because qt5.6 has ECMA4 which makes using node libraries borderline impossible, but for desktop i want to do what minitube has done and use qt's js engine because in newer version its ECMA5 which is bit more doable. This will require some backend rework and build target but should be doable (it can be done later).

Okay but why

Because people enjoy it, and I want more people to enjoy it, and i seen multiple times people using devices where microtube would fit perfectly like thinkpads, like my vaio ux, like steamdeck or tv for that matter. I also want it to run on nemomobile as in general i plan to port every single one of my apps to nemomobile.

Where do I contribute?

Repo is here https://github.com/Michal-Szczepaniak/microtube, you can PR directly to the main branch I don't care as long as it doesn't break anything in sfos target. If you wish to contact me, I'm on irc (oftc/libera) under same nickname, i'm on telegram under same nickname, i'm on reddit, i'm on sailfishos forums, i'm on heck email, heck create github issue, you ought to find something that fits you.

You seem to mention minitube a lot and name is quite similar…

Yes microtube or well µtube WAS in past based on minitube as i basically took minitube code and ported it to sailfishos but it grew well outside of that scope and currently there's no minitube left in it.

Tell me more about this… microtube of yours

Screenshots are here: https://openrepos.net/content/mistermagistemicrotube
It got sponsorblock it got 360° videos, it got closed captions, it got comments, it got downloading, it got syncing subscriptions and liking, it got offline subscriptions, it got playlists, it got queues, it got audio only mode, it got many other features that are innovative on sailfishos but boring to everyone who's not using saiflishos so i'm not gonna mention them.

Why don't I just use minitube or invidious

Fell free to.

2024.06.01 16:03 Wuyley New Megathread Set Rule Goes Into Effect June 12th

Starting with set 2, and going forward with each new set, a sticky thread will be posted a month before a set’s release and stay up until a month after release. For example, with set two releasing July 12th, this thread will be stickied from June 12th - August 12th and while this thread is up, the following topics should be kept in that thread. All related post flare will be taken offline during this time as a reminder and any new posts made will be taken down.

Please use this set thread for the following:
- Pulls Posts - new posts showing what you got in your pack or box, asking how much something is worth, asking if a card is a misprint, etc.
- Local prerelease and release events - If you are an event organizer for a regional or official larger event, still feel free to make a new post but for all the local prereleases / releases, use this thread.
- Rules questions - For rules questions relating to the new set's mechanics and/or cards, please post them here or in the individual card's "card preview" post. We are still seeing a lot of the same rules questions being asked (unique rules, leaders leaving play or not, etc.) so if anyone wants to take the initiative and make an FAQ, I would love to link that on the right under the quick links.
- Looking for Group - For people looking for local play groups or local stores that support the game.

Why is this thread being made?
Reddit only allows a sub to have two sticky threads up at a time and the mod team wants to reserve at least one of those slots for notices, official news, AMA's, or other relevant items that may come up that we feel the sub would want to be made aware of. That leaves us only one other sticky thread so we are trying to balance the two thoughts of "leave the sub wide open and let the people decide" and "put everything into a sicky thread" groups of people.
This thread is a compromise that tries to funnel a majority of the same traffic into a consolidated place when excitement is high (new set release) while also relaxing the rules during the "off-peak" season between sets.
As always, we are open to ways to improve the sub but please remember that decisions like these need to be made with the collective whole in mind, and not cater to a small number of people's personal tastes.
