2024.06.01 15:01 aznpersuazion Why Vancouver has THE BEST FOOD IN NORTH AMERICA

Alright, buckle up because we're diving into why Vancouver's food scene is straight-up legendary. Forget the regular city vibes; Vancouver is a melting pot of flavors, a culinary carnival that beats anything else in North America. Join me on this personal quest to unravel why the combo of Asian influence, Pacific Northwest goodness, and chill dining vibes makes Vancouver the top pick for foodies.
Asian Culinary Delights: Tradition and Creativity Unleashed
Vancouver's streets resonate with the aromas of traditional Asian dishes, prepared with a touch of authenticity that transports you across borders. Picture slurping savory ramen in Chinatown or savoring hand-pulled noodles in a cozy corner of East Van. But what makes Vancouver's Asian food scene truly exceptional is its fusion of tradition with modern creativity.
In this city, innovation meets tradition on a plate. Take, for instance, squid ink brioche with sea urchin pâté – a daring yet harmonious blend of flavors that pushes the boundaries of culinary expectations. Vancouver's chefs are culinary artists, creating dishes that not only pay homage to traditional recipes but also elevate them into extraordinary, palate-pleasing experiences.
And let's not forget the matcha mochi croissants that have taken the city by storm. A fusion of Japanese mochi and French croissants, these delectable pastries are a testament to Vancouver's culinary diversity. Each bite is a dance of textures and tastes, showcasing the city's flair for seamlessly blending cultures and cuisines.
Pacific Northwest's Grocery List: Seafood Galore and More
Living next to the Pacific Ocean is like having a seafood aisle in your backyard. Fresh salmon, sweet Dungeness crab, and chubby spot prawns – Vancouver's seafood game is on point. And let's not forget the local veggies and meats, straight from the region's green landscapes. It's like nature’s way of saying, "Hey, enjoy the good stuff!"
Nature Vibes: Dining with a View
Vancouver's layout is like a dating app for food and nature; they're a match made in heaven. Whether you're brunching in a leafy neighborhood or devouring seafood with an ocean panorama, the city serves up an Instagrammable backdrop for every meal. Picture this: a patio, a breeze, and the scent of fir trees – eating out just got a whole lot cooler.
Neighborhood Chronicles: Culinary Adventures Off the Beaten Path
Downtown is cool, but venture out, and you'll hit foodie gold. Commercial Drive's eclectic spots or Richmond's legit Asian flavors – Vancouver's neighborhoods are like culinary treasure maps. Each area has its own flavor story, tempting you to be the food explorer you were born to be.
Conclusion
Vancouver isn't just a city with good food; it's a food fiesta waiting to happen. The Asian vibes, the Pacific Northwest's goodies, and the city's chill connection with nature make dining here a full-blown experience. Vancouver isn't just North America's food champion; it's a vibe, a journey through flavors, and a big, fat stamp on your foodie passport. So, next time you're craving a culinary adventure, Vancouver's got your back, fork, and knife.

2024.06.01 14:59 FriendlyVariety5054 How can you hate a show with such a passion and still have no clue what it’s actually about

How can you hate a show with such a passion and still have no clue what it’s actually about
This claims that:
Vivienne Medrano, the creator of the show is an illegal immigrant and a satanist even though neither are true. It also claims that she made the show out of spite for Trump which once again, isn’t true at all?? At no point is there ever any anti-Trump messaging in the show
That Charlie, the main character is a “transgender version of Satan” even though she’s stated and shown to be the daughter of Lucifer, and is cisgender
That Hazbin is meant to lure in children and target them, even though it is explicitly stated in both Hazbin Hotel and it’s spinoff show “Helluva Boss” that the shows are made for adults
That the show is trying to promote sin to children, which isn’t true because the whole point of the show is to condemn sin?

2024.06.01 14:58 94dogguy Every card reader in shops, pubs and the like prompting me to leave a tip first or donate to a cause

Recently I've noticed a lot of card readers asking to leave a tip, all of them are different so need to work out if I should touch 'no' press the red button and having to do this right in front of the person. I'm at the bar, I collected my drink and we spoke for 1 minute when I put in my order why should I tip - this isn't America.
I have no problem tipping if I've gotten good service but not when I'm just having a shandy in the sun - the beer is already £6.

2024.06.01 14:56 FuckingaFuck How do cars without Android Auto even work?

For reference, I have a Chevy Bolt and I'm a frequent passenger in a Rivian R1T. Before I got my Bolt, I was just using CDs and FM radio. I did not touch my phone. Now, I rely on Android Auto for handling audio selection and messaging. I still don't touch or glance at my phone.
I can't reproduce simple tasks in the Rivian (and, theoretically, any other car without Android Auto). How do you switch between apps, like from music to a podcast to an audiobook, without Android Auto? How do you listen to and reply to incoming texts? If your ringer is on silent, how do you even know a text came through? How do you search for charger information, like the status of a nearby Electrify America station? I will admit the EA app on Android Auto is clunky, but I can find out if no units are available.
This might be more specific to me, but I can only launch "Hey Google" successfully about 4% of the time. I do use the Assistant on occasion, but I launch it by pressing a button on my steering wheel. What if there isn't a Google Assistant button on the steering wheel? Do other people just say it verbally and it works? How do you know it's working if there's no popup on the screen?

2024.06.01 14:47 gonumby Story quest nuked my game (black screen)

https://reddit.com/link/1d5m891/video/usin0yfhhy3d1/player
3 days ago, I did some quest talking to Jinhsi, then talking to Yangyang and Chixia on top of the staircase about the interaction. After the cutscene, it just turned into this black screen and stayed as is (left it overnight to test it). I've tried reinstalling the game, nvidia control settings, restoring laptop to a few days before that but nothing works. Started a new account on Asia and that works. I've got no idea why the America server one does not work though, I can launch the game fine then see the loading screen, then once it reaches 100%, just black screen with music. I can still see my cursor though so I'm not sure what the issue is.

2024.06.01 14:46 TorpidNotBranch Will wooden structures fall out of favour in the future?

Almost all modern buildings are built with concrete and steel as opposed to wood, and there's good reasons:
-Wood is susceptible to fire, we've all heard of Great Fire of London.
-You can't build tall buildings with wood, and even if you did, it's probably very fragile.
-Wood is too sensitive to environmental conditions like moisture or insects.
-Concrete is way more durable, I mean almost all the surviving buildings/archaelogical sites are made from concrete/stone(for example the Roman colleseum), I can't name a single wooden structure that has survived for more than 2000 years.
With modern technologies, I fail to see an advantage with building with wood. Most countries are moving towards bricks/concrete except for North America for some reason.

2024.06.01 14:46 Spooneater69 I am so confused with how I feel about my friend

Ok so, I (14F) have known this boy (14M) who I will call “A” since I was in third grade, and we are obviously in the same middle school. We are both incredibly intelligent and good at writing, however people always put him above me. I feel like he isn’t more successful than me academically though. Infact I am more successful than him, i’m in the gifted program and in student council neither of which he is in.
Anyways, I have always resented him because he gets more praise for the same writing and work that I do. I think we’re both funny, I always make him laugh and he makes me laugh. However, I can’t help but to resent him even though I think we both have the same qualities; hes attractive and i’m very sure I am aswell, hes smart and I know I am aswell and we’re both popular and funny; adults are always saying so.
Its just like hes so perfect and I would give anything to recieve the same kind of praise he does. I mean even I adore him but like not in a romantic way, its just like hes always been someone who likes classical literature even though nobody else in our grade is intrigued by it and its just heinous knowing I probably won’t be able to speak to him in highschool because he’s one of my favorite people. I’m not really sure if how I feel about him is romantic, like sometimes I just want to hug him if that makes sense lmao. Oh I included our writing from sixth grade when we did a group project together copy pasted ↓
Mine: As soon as the recollection of the three bodies came cascading upon Bass in a choking flood of stinging details, Bass began to perspire and tremble. Something that was a recurrence in this impeccable novel is the mention of the Comanches- a belligerent indigenous group of people to America. The name was sure to bring fear to even the brawniest of men, Comanche had tolled in them like a portentous gong. There was a sinister and unlikely coincidence between the violent happening around the Native American territory that made the Comanche one of the most hideous of omens. In reality though the Comanches were a brutal community, bring treated with a biblical veneration. However I would like to take a mature and systematic evaluation of why they may do these things. For one, us Americans drove them out if the land they had lived in for centuries, brutally burning down their communities and making them walk grueling trails and rough rocks to arrive at a territory riddled with mediocrity. Overall I believed that the Comanches were a symbol or vim and freedom throughout this novel.
His: There are several prominent names that have established themselves as important threads upon the rich tapestry of Western History; Several Outlaws and desperados are recalled for the formidable forced they possessed upon their communities. Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday- all of these names have been of flourishing recognition, yet there are only mere vestiges of traces upon a true legend; a figure of immaculate morals (a trait that was a rare rose within a grotesque haven of weeds.) This very man that I speak of was born into slavery and- at the age of seventeen- relinquished the clutches of his owner prerequisite to venturing into the sibylline, crime-riddled depths of the Indian Territory where he would elude the treacherous dangers amidst his path to grow older to be a man of law; a valiant marshal in which turned a horrendous domain (the indian territory) into a place of order. This man went by the name of Bass Reeves.

2024.06.01 14:46 ElBrofesor Why is the academic year so long in Vietnamese universities/colleges?

Undergraduate college students in VN have 1 month (July) of summer break (plus Tet holiday), if I am not mistaken. Why does the academic year have to be so long? I suppose students can use a longer summer to recharge or engage in some extra-curriculum activities like summer internship, etc. I also went to college here a decade ago, but never saw the benefit of a long academic year. Do we model it after the French system or something because of the historical connection?
For a comparison, US students (at state unis at least) take approximately a 3-month summer break (plus a 1-month Winter break). Standard time in undergrad is 4 years in both countries (exceptions happen for the double-majors and individuals who pace themselves slower for their own reasons). I'm not saying "America good." It's the only other education system that I know well.

Late Friday evening, a previously unknown Connecticut-based hedge fund (Carronade Capital Mgt) disclosed ownership of nearly 1.7 Million shares of Yellow’s common stock. As of yesterday’s closing price, their position is worth more than $12.5 Million and is a 3.2%+ stake of the company. 99-yr old Yellow Corp is ten months into a Ch 11 bankruptcy liquidation…a very rare “Assets Over Liabilities” story & situation! Found this Georgia quarter in change. Are these die cracks?
Noticed there are what appears to be die cracks on both sides of the coin in the same area. I’m no expert so was hoping for some insight. I read die cracks are common so I only look for unique ones. The cracks ( if that’s what these are) aren’t identical to each other but are similar. Sorry for all the pics as I was trying to get the clearest views. Any help is appreciated.

2024.06.01 14:34 Virtual_Clothes_5790 My boss is such an awful person and manager, it makes me want to quit my 120k salary job. It’s just not worth it.

I’m 29. I’ve been in corporate America for 6 years. This is my 3rd job, which I’ve had for 2 and a half years. The first year in this position I came in motivated and worked hard. Learned how everyone on my team works, and how to be the top performer. Everyone else in my department is a level above me in pay (20k or so). Did more than any of them that year, and got a 3% raise.
Second year, I did way less work. I was totally demotivated after arguing with my boss about why I’m being paid so much less than my peers, even though I objectively did more than them, including coming up with several projects that saved our business hundreds of thousands of dollars. I still did my job and got a 6% raise. I spent most of that year job searching, getting interviews, and either getting turned down or getting an offer I wasn’t satisfied with. I work from home for the most part, and haven’t been offered a package with enough pay, vacation, or general flexibility that made sense to take yet.
This third year, it’s been awful. Workload is at an all time high. I work 50-60 hours a week and it’s never enough. My coworkers are bogged down, in poor moods, and don’t help. I dread my 1 on 1s with my boss because she always has an awful attitude and is never helpful or complimentary. She has no perspective about how deadlines work and how unrealistic the expectations are that she and her bosses set. And it’s because her life is this job. Anytime I’ve tried to push back and give her constructive criticism about how she operates, she has a little freak out for herself. We complete surveys on her every year and whenever she sees that someone gave her a less than perfect rating, she’ll basically threaten the team.
At this point, I’m done. I make good money sure, but my mental and physical health is deteriorating from this job. Thankfully I have no debt, have minimal monthly expenses, and very solid savings/investments right now since I live at home and basically just pay rent to my parents. Pretty soon I’m likely going to quit on no notice and let myself breathe for like a month, and go from there. The job market sucks right now, but I can’t do this much longer.
Quiet quitting is an option, and the better one when I remove my emotions from this. It’s almost impossible to quiet quit this job since you get one week deadlines to complete a project that takes 30 hours to do, while having 2 or sometimes 3 at the same time. And if deadlines aren’t met, you’ll end up on a PIP at best.
TLDR; corporate America has already sucked a significant part of my soul, and I’ve had enough.

I’m from Romania and thinking of moving to America to work a couple years, gain experience, visit places and make some money. I know it’s not a conspiracy , but this is the right place to ask people about some things: how’s the life after covid, are there still mandatory jabs, what places are safe, water is non-toxic, good food, healthy life, nice people. Pros- cons, advices, any information is helpful.

2024.06.01 14:32 Agitated-Trick Everyone's Listening, All Supertramp songs, ranked - Oh Darling (#68)

From Breakfast In America, 1979
Listen to it here
{1}
That contrast is what makes the world go 'round and what makes Supertramp go 'round. His beliefs are a challenge to mine and my beliefs are a challenge to his." This idea [having the album talk about their strained relationship] was eventually scrapped in favour of an album of "fun" songs [...]
As you can gather, this album was specifically created to be somewhat more "fun" and commercial compared to the others - and it would pay off massively. Breakfast In America is a stone cold classic, full of classic tracks. Among those sits Oh Darling.
And Oh Darling, despite never being released as a single, became one of Davies's most famous compositions. A live version was left off Paris and Live In Paris '79, but is present on the deluxe edition of Breakfast. Lyrically it's similiar to Ain't Nobody But Me in some ways, about pleading the other person to not leave the relationship (it feels however way less "creepy" than Ain't Nobody But Me).
Musically, it's one of the album's tracks where the Wurlitzer is more prominently featured: for that, it feels like the "quintessential" BIA track. A ballad, Rick also sings using his trademark falsetto during the bridge 'round the 2 minute mark and also during the outro. That chorus is, of course, extremely catchy: I wonder why they didn't release this as a single, I think it had a lot of potential.
At the very least this saw release on The Very Best Of, Vol 2 and Retrospectacle; but despite singing its praises, it's not really my favourite on the album. Breakfast In America features stronger tracks, and with my bottom 2 being this good it just goes to show that for their "commercial" album, Supertramp really knocked it out of the park.

2024.06.01 14:31 Dennis_Laid Why Trump's narcissism gave him no choice but to join Putin’s attack against our democracy. (Article/Podcast)

“This puts this attack into a context that every American needs to understand. Putin attacked our democracy with the goal of dividing us and undermining any global constraints on his fascist ambitions.
Donald Trump was a target of this attack. Then, Donald Trump was willingly lured into the attack by his narcissism and shared ambitions. They grabbed him and America by our nuts.
The attack was wildly successful, likely beyond Putin’s ambitions, because Trump, when faced with a choice between his country and siding with Putin, chose Putin just about every time.
This is because he believes in dividing us and undermining any global constraints on fascist ambitions as much as Putin.
And it was because he felt trapped.
The somewhat consensual bind Putin put Trump in resembles in almost every way the bind Trump has on the Republican Party, which is why he has turned the party and much of our judicial system against the rule of law itself.
Understanding that this is a process more than a plot is key to defeating it.
