me, personally, i want a spinoff or episode-focus of some characters, or overall an anime that focuses each on every student (like this anime called 22/7, but make the episodes longer) maybe talking about their struggles, how they came to be, because some students are so interesting. like rio nakamura (ive said her name about six times in this subreddit now), hinano kurahashi, toka yada, etc, etc. what about you guys? what are your thoughts?

2024.04.18 03:50 Jbindahouse420 Yakuza Kiwami 2 sucks

So, in my opinion, I think Yakuza kiwami 2 is the worst entry in the series. The story sucks, the plot twist is stupid, and Kaoru Sayama is probably one of the worst characters in the series by far. She mostly killed the game for me because she’s such a bitch in the beginning for no reason and she makes some of the dumbest decisions ever, like for example, not shooting Kurahashi when she had the chance which led to Kawara’s death. Another thing is that this game is straight up unfair at times, like with the jingweon mafia member with the knives in his boots, seriously fuck that guy. The only reason I kept going was because I wanted to see how Ryuji’s story would play out and he was the saving grace of the game. All in all, I think it’s a bad game.

2024.04.10 19:00 seljacina1995 Itinerary check: Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Takayama, Tokyo in 21 days

Hello everyone! I am a 29 year old professional photographer from Eastern Europe. This is the longest and farthest trip I'm going to make (NYC 10 days farthest so far). Japan has always been a big wish of mine and I managed to get some free time and money for this trip. I've been following this sub for a while now, and since my trip starts on April 27th here we go with the itinerary.
Some things about me: photography, anime, getting lost and exploring, museums, driving around, not much of a party person but love to drink a beer or two, boxing. I am open to trying out types of food, would love to try atleast one michelin starred ramen/sushi place, interacting with locals, karaoke
Before I get to Japan, I plan on getting a virtual Suica on my Iphone, international drivers license, travels insurance, 100 euro in Yen cash, electrical converter. With my flight tickets, I got two whole luggages (23 kgs) but I think that would be an overkill to carry around in Japan. For NYC I just had a duffel bag stuffed with some tshirts, extra pair of pants and toiletries plus a bagpack. I was thinking about using the same system in Japan, but buying another duffel bag in Japan because I plan on buying some souvenirs for friends (Chefs knife, wooden trinkets etc.) and eventually buying a whole suitcase? Does that even make sense?
EDIT: My budget is 1200 euro for flight tickets, 700 euro hotels, 400 for trains/buses, and 2000 for whatever.
My flight leaves at April 27th at 8:25PM local time. I will arrive at Osaka April 28th 7:00 PM Japan time.
Day 1 - OSAKA Take the bus to Osaka, check in at the Hotel Sun White walk around and get something to eat and hopefully sleep some. Will try my best not to get jet lagged.
Day 2 - Osaka Castle Park, Osaka Peace Center, walk around the neighbourhood. Dotonbori district at night/sunset maybe?
Day 3 - Aquarium, Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, Tsūtenkaku
Day 4 - KYOTO Checkout at the hotel, travel to Kyoto, checkin at the Guest Inn Chita. Toji temple, Gion district at sunset/evening
Day 5 - Arashiyama, Kinkaku
Day 6 - Imperial Palace, would love for a walk on a cemetery, just dont know which one
Day 7 - Philosophers path, Summit of Mt. Inari
Day 8 Hiroshima Checkout, Shinkansen to Hiroshima. Checkin at Daiwa Roynet Hotel Hiroshima
Ground zero, Peace memorial museum
Day 9 - Trip to Myajima
Day 10 - Rental car, some good music and no plan. Actually now that I'm thinking about it, I found a cool beach at Kurahashi-jima, I'm okay at swimming in cold water (13 degrees Celcius). Thoughts?
Day 11 - Checkout, getting to Takayama with Shinkansen, checkin Country Hotel Takayama
Walking around, exploring Old Town. Would love to get some wooden trinkets here!
Day 12 - Rental car, Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa
Day 13 - Chill, looking for onsen that allows tattooed people (dont mind being spending extra)
Day 14 - Checkout, Bus to Tokyo. Checkin at Flexstay Inn Sugamo. I'm gonna be arriving on a Saturday, so I thought about maybe going out for drinks and partying? Just not sure where, would love somewhere I can meet with other english speaking people
Day 15 - If it goes as planned, I'm gonna be hungover and chilling the day untill afternoon, evening. St Marys Cathedral mass?
Day 16 - Ghibli Museum, Magnum Photos office, Nakano Broadway
Day 17- Minipig cafe Meguro, Shibuya crossing, Hachiko Statue, Minipig cafe Meguro, Aoyama cemetery, Jazz Blues Soul bar
Day 18 - Shinjuku garden, Godziilla head, Omoide Yokocho, Museum of Contemporary Art
Day 19 - Teamlabs planet, R34 gtr driving around
Day 20 - last day, probably chill and think about the whole trip.
Day 21 - travel back
To anyone who reads this, thank you very much! I cant wait enough for this trip, and will definitely consider any tips for some cool stuff too check out!

2024.03.31 15:37 pohltergiest First day of the osume island course

First day of the osume island course
We woke on the final day of March, rested and ready for the next leg of the trip. In my initial estimates this was as fast as I saw possible so we're making excellent time on riding and recovery. Today we set out for etajima, a group of islands just south of Hiroshima. But first, we have to pack up the huge mess we made while cleaning all of our gear. Clothes go in piecing cubes, rain gear goes in the frame bag, the cooking gear is stacked and stored. After dozens of packing iterations, finally everything has a home and this task is far less arduous. Hungry, we packed swiftly and made our way downstairs.
My fenders needed a bit of adjusting and my brakes needed to be looked at so I set out to do that. The fenders were easy, just a bit of fiddling with a wrench. The brakes were a bit more confusing. The pads appear to have lots of life in them so that's not the issue. Maybe there's a way to adjust the tension on them to give me more braking power? And what's the zizzling noise I keep hearing? So long as the pads aren't gone they should be okay though. No big hills today and we're entering the biking hotspot of the country so bike shops should be very easy to come by. We're looking to stop at one and do our wash up that we failed to accomplish in Hiroshima.
First order of business was breakfast. When we sat down we saw in the menu they had a toast, egg, and bacon breakfast, but it was just the one toast egg and bacon. I tried to inquire about doubling the contents but that went nowhere so we just ordered two breakfasts each. I got a picture of our four breakfast platters and we happily ate and drank coffees. The toast was a bit plain but the pork sausage was excellent. I thought about getting an order of pancakes, but again I couldn't get them a la carte and they would come with an egg but not toast! Complex. Breakfast is certainly better back home.
A short ride brought us down wide streets with wide sidewalks, almost another road they're so wide. This brought us to the ferry terminal, where a ticket machine gave us two tickets for us and two tickets for our bikes to etajima. We effectively flipped a coin to see which port to go to as there were three options, we decided to take the shortest ferry and the one highlighted as the bike route on our mapping app. That could mean anything from a separate biking path to a faded set of biking indicators on a highway so we never expect much, but tourism brochures promise us that this is a great area to bike in. We've been very excited for this part of the tour! I've planned an osume course, a master's course, of four sets of island chains connected by bike bridges. We should pass over 16 or 17 bridges and hit as many islands. The weather looks fantastic and the cherry blossoms are just popping! The timing couldn't be better!
We were rewarded with flat and fast roads, warm temperatures and a good mood when we arrived on etajima. A bright blue line showed the way, which was a ring road around all the peninsulas of the island. We set off south around the first peninsula, rounding over rises at speed. The waters were calm around the island with the south wind today, reflecting the polka dot hills, cherries spreading their pink more every day. We passed endless traps out in the water, and saw huge piles of shells out in the water and some on shore.
After an hour we were getting hungry so we looked up a place to eat. Islands are often not a great place for choice and the town we were near was no different. A Chinese food joint was open, so we went there. A bit of a dingy back door with several people waiting greeted us, as well as a very apologetic cook who wanted us to wait. Bryce changed his mind when he saw that a little way away was an oyster cafe. I felt bad about leaving after we promised the proprietor we'd wait, but oysters did sound good.
The cafe was on the other side of the island through a cold and drippy tunnel. We found it on the upper level of a oyster processing facility, which said to us that the oysters would be about as fresh as they possibly could be, aside from right off a boat. Inside we found a lovely upscale restaurant in shades of light blue, overlooking the inland sea. The prices were a bit steep but Bryce convinced me that the raw oysters would be fantastic, despite them asking $6 for them.
We got a selection of 3 oysters, each from a different region. The first were a variety from Nagasaki. I tasted a fresh burst of seafood flavour, no notes of fishiness and a major chord of umami that rings on the tongue. Next was the Hiroshima variety, with a lighter flavour, and enormous. Bryce prefers the lighter flavour, and a easy texture with just a hint of bite. The Kumamoto variety came last. Even larger, easily twice the size of a typical oyster I've had back home, and a flavour in between the other two. Leaves a sense of calm on the body and umami on the tongue. I liked the more intense flavor of the Nagasaki oyster the best, Bryce liked the less intense flavours best. They were served with an extremely light soy sauce and an oil, maybe a canola? Canola grows wild everywhere so that's my guess. We also got the two kinds of burgers they had, a barbeque beef burger that tasted like a meatball and a oyster cream burger, which kinda seemed like a oyster chowder croquette in a bun. Both were okay. The so called chips that came with them were old ass potatoes and I'd send them back if I didn't think someone would throw themselves out the window.
After lunch we deliberated about our course of action. There was a military museum in the next city that seemed interesting, but the islands we were on also beared fully exploring. The deciding factor was that the museum wouldn't open till 10 the next day, hampering our morning progress. We would race the day instead. I plotted out a course that looped around and through the islands, primarily on the biking course. Along the way we passed through lovely little fishing villages. The island seemed in relatively good shape, though we didn't see a lot of shops around. We used to think stores weren't open for the season, but now we think most little stores went out of business during covid. It's mostly just big stores now and nothing else.
We passed over our first and second bridges of the day, both high enough to permit ships to pass under. The second bridge had a small ferry in the past for cyclists, but it's either defunct or only for the summer. Undeterred, we traveled up the winding helix of a road up to the bridge. Drivers gave us lots of space but it was a little scary being in the middle of an unfamiliar structure such as this. We made very good time, getting back to the mainland by about 3. Heading into Kure, we saw the enormous shipyards and naval bases located here. Massive drydocks build the biggest ships here, we had a good vantage point to see the colossal rolling cranes that on a weekday would be busy moving huge ship pieces around.
The museum we were headed to was in the center of Kure and our bike route conveniently went right to it. Maybe it was planned that way as the museum is surrounded by shopping complexes. I knew the museum had two things: a huge model of the battleship yamato and a full size decommissioned submarine that one could go into. Both were indeed present and worth seeing. The Yamato section was a very detailed museum on the shipbuilding history of Kure, the war efforts, what kinds of ships were built, and the effect of the war on the citizens there. The museum was a model-makers dream as a hundred or more top-quality scale models of all kinds of ships were present. I enjoyed seeing the original blueprints of the warships as well as the discussions on the iterations of the engine exhaust systems on the prototype aircraft carriers. While I enjoyed the mechanical engineering on display, I always feel conflicted around subjects of war and have a difficult time truly appreciating the achievements of the engineers when the intent was not of self defense, certainly not early in the war.
The submarine itself required the visitor to walk through a museum of it's own that read very much like a recruiting station. That's fine I suppose, the entry price was free at least. The submarine was quite the treat, narrow passageways filled with hydraulic lines, ventilation tubes, bunks, charts and equipment in a claustrophobic tube at one point full of sailors and weaponry. Pretty cool.
Food was next on our minds, and a shopping mall was next door, so we hit up the food court. We got a dish very reminiscent of Thai mee krob, it had lots of vegetables and I found it very tasty. But we needed to be off. As usual I underestimated the amount of time we'd need in the museum and our campsite was still another hour by bike. Night was beginning to fall when we left the mall, and I was getting anxious. We rode through a long but very nice tunnel (the walkway was lit, and separated from the road with a full height plexiglass separator), and on the other side started feeling a few rain drops. There wasn't rain in the forecast so I checked it and found that an absolute deluge was expected in the next half hour! Now starting to panic, I wanted us to go as fast as possible as we saw lightning over the island.
Crossing our third bridge of the day we started to get hit with fat raindrops and we could see a storm flashing off the south side of our island we intended to camp at. Knowing the wind was coming from the south did not put me at ease. We raced in the dark around corners and curves past now rather calm waters until we reached the campsite, the rain coming down now. The trees in the site were a little small, but we attempted to put the tarp up anyways. I was a little beside myself with the storm, which I have a pretty bad phobia of. I was a little hard to deal with. After struggling with setting up in a subpar state, the rain, naturally, stopped and the storm clearly was not going to hit us. I was embarrassed about how worked up I got, feeling very overwhelmed over a storm hitting us when we weren't set up. Panic isn't a very useful thing to set up a campsite after all. Once I was calmed down, I proposed we set up our chairs by the ocean and talk a bit about how the two of us can navigate tricky emotions as things get tense when we're setting up in the rain. I pulled out a little bottle of shochu and whatever snacks we had left, and we got a can of grape and aloe drink from a vending machine and sat by the dark ocean and talked. We determined that we have opposite responses to storms and much different threat responses but that if I can't be calm I have to take a breather, rain or not. I'm not thinking clearly and it's affecting my ability to be nice, let alone do things that are actually useful to the situation.
Having a panic attack over a storm is pretty tiring, so I'll leave it at that for tonight. I'm looking forward to sun and island hopping tomorrow.

2024.03.27 14:09 crescentpieris A list of everyone's bugs in Koro Sensei Quest (both manga and anime)

i can't find a list like this anywhere, so I thought I'd make my own. The manga and anime were written differently and showcases different bugs, so I have to make a list for each. Some of the characters' behaviour are not explicitly called bugs, but they deviate from the norm enough that I though I should mention them here. Those particular bugs will be marked with a question mark. Not all bug names are official
Bug Manga Anime
Koro-sensei Speed bug: his speed stat is 99999 (a number so large it pokes out of the stat box), which allows him to move at incredible speed Speed bug: he can move at incredible speed
Akabane Karma Luck bug: his luck goes down whenever he looks down on someone. This results in him getting hit by washbins or falling into pitfalls. He can also “fine tune” his cockiness to make whatever he wants fall down. Additionally, those items can be affected by certain auras. For instance, a heroic looking washbin fell on his head when he was holding the Hero's sword Luck bug: his luck goes down whenever he looks down on someone. This results in him getting hit by washbins or falling into pitfalls
Isogai Yuma Poverty bug: the back half of any clothing he wears will disappear. This works on even bushes he hides in Poverty bug: the back half of any clothing he wears will disappear
Okajima Taiga Speedreading bug(?): his eyes can pop out and move up and down at incredible speed (he says it might be a skill he learnt from speedreading pornographic magazines)
Unequipping bug: causes the equipment of anyone he has touched to fly off, as well as his own
Okano Hinata
Okuda Manami Shyness bug(?): her magic is as shy as she is. Thus, it may retreat form enemies and hit her allies instead
Potion bug: can create potions that shouldn’t exist
Kataoka Meg
Kayano Kaede
Kanzaki Yukiko Healing bug: her healing magic makes people feel so good they go limp
Kimura Masayoshi
Kurahashi Hinano Insect bug: her magic attracts insects Insect bug: her magic attracts insects
Abnormal encounter rate bug: can alter the odds of an enemy encounter (this one might be responsible for the insect bug but I'm counting it separately just in case)
Shiota Nagisa Randomness bug: the outcome of his bug is randomised. It activates when he steps forward with determination or concentrates hard Randomness bug: the outcome of his bug is randomised. It activates when he steps forward with determination
Charisma bug(?): he can charm people, though it’s mostly unintentional (may just be due to his androgynous appearance)
Sugaya Sosuke
Sugino Tomohito Delayed effect bug: his magic moves slower than usual or takes longer to manifest and his status takes days to update Berserker bug: when he reaches peak excitement, he becomes a berserker
Delayed effect bug: his magic takes longer to activate
Takebayashi Kotaro
Chiba Ryunosuke Range bug: he can see and attack distant enemies no matter what obstacles are in the way, but he can hardly see or attack nearby ones. In addition, if he loses focus, everyone looks like a target Range bug: all long-range shots hit the target between the legs
Terasaka Ryoma Soup bug: his magic comes out of various places as broth The Slither: his magic takes the form of liquids
Survival bug(?): he won’t die when his HP drops to a certain level, but his intelligence also drops immensely (this is rumoured to be his bug, but the people who talk about it got Nagisa's bug wrong, so there's a chance this is not true either. The intelligence lowering part is true at least)
Nakamura Rio Status switcher bug: she can switch the statuses between two entities
Hazama Kirara
Hayami Rinka Hit rate bug: anything she throws or shoots will fly towards an enemy regardless of distance (Terasaka and Okajima’s crotch are apparently considered enemies) Hit rate bug: no matter where she aims, all shots hit the target between the legs
Hara Sumire Strength bug: grants her immense strength, but her HP constantly decreases in return. She eats constantly to compensate for that, even while in battle Thirds: she can expand in size when she holds her breath, but she needs to build up a lot of energy beforehand. In order to do so, she eats constantly
Fuwa Yuzuki Item bug: she can obtain items that should be impossible to obtain, like a book from another world
Maehara Hiroto Coolness bug: increases his coolness stat and makes him look or act cooler. Further mastery of his bug allows his body to be altered further, like having his legs elongated. However, the bug also affects his brain
Mimura Koki Graphics bug: screws up graphic images
Muramatsu Takuya
Yada Toka
Yoshida Taisei Bathroom warrior bug: he can only equip toilet-related gear Bathroom warrior bug: he can only equip toilet-related gear
Ritsu Combination bug: she can combine spells to create new magic, but she has to consume many items afterwards to compensate for her lost MP Combination bug: she can combine spells to create new magic, but she has to consume many items afterwards to compensate for her lost HP
Appendage bug: her limbs can stick outside of the stone tablet she inhabits (Koro-sensei explicitly says it's a bug in ch.12)
Horibe Itona Imitation bug: allows him to use skills that humans are normally unable to use, from the slime’s “division” skill to the big bad’s “hellfire” or “black lightning” skill
Think that's all of them. If i'm missing some let me know.
Fun fact: 9 people have never shown their bugs in the manga, but only 12 people have shown their bugs in the anime

2024.03.14 16:13 Skelebroskl UPDATE ON MY PAIN FOR THIS SERIES

WHAT THE HELL BRO THIS SERIES ACTUALLY HURT MY HEART SO BAD??? This ENTIRE part of the manga gave me chills. I assumed Makima was bad by the time Reze was introduced but WOW. She was SO MUCH WORSE. Im waiting for the librarys hold to give me the last of the books atm (the librarian was so sweet, support your local libraries!)

2024.03.01 20:37 LieAdministrative321 Author of Manga “Godzilla Planet of Monsters” offers input on the Heisei vs Earth debate.

Recently I contacted the author of Godzilla Planet of the Monsters manga Youth Kurahashi with some questions about GE. However, I decided to ask his opinion on the Heisei vs Earth debate. He believes that infinite spiral heat ray of Burning Heisei melt the 50 meter Godzilla Earth with enough time, however not the 300 meter Earth. For the much bigger version he believes that only extra dimensional entities like Void Ghidorah who can neg the laws of reality could beat him. So using that information: True form Ultima is the only onscreen incarnation that can really kill him.
With this I’m not suggesting a close to the argument, I just thought it would be interesting to ask a Toho author their opinion that’s all.

2024.01.07 16:53 PaulBessard Biking from Hiroshima to Tokyo in April

Hi fellow redditors ! I posted earlier on hiroshima to ask for advices but it might be quite logical to post here : I'm planning to do Hiroshima (April 5th) > Tokyo (April 20th) by bike, and in order to do that I will rent a cheap bike in Hiroshima that I will customize with my baggage racks and equipments.
(I have been to Japan twice and always bought a bike on Craiglist that I sold before leaving, and did little bike trips around Tokyo, Fuji, Sagamihara, but my knowledge doesn't go further than this area)
For the moment, my route looks like the image above, I just set a starting and finish point so it is totally random.

My question is :
Do you have any general advices, beautiful sceneries to pass by, good tips to stay at cheap places or camp overnight ? I'm taking every pieces of knowledge you have in order to compile it into something great <3
Thanks in advance !

Looking for a bike (buy or rent) in Hiroshima !
Hi dear Redditors !I'm planning to do Hiroshima > Tokyo by bike in April, I'm coming from France with all my bike equipments.. excepting my bike because I can't carry it as a checked luggage :-)
I'm looking to buy or rent a bike there, which I will use 22 days for around 900km, coming back to Hiroshima by train, then cleaning, returning or selling the bike before my departure !
Do you know cheap places to do such things, do you have any tips, or somebody that would be interested in the process ?
Thanks a lot and I can't wait to visit Hiroshima !!
(Here is an approximate route that I'm planning to do, but I wouldn't mind staying more around Hiroshima or passing by very beautiful places if you know any !)

2024.01.06 06:51 Fern-intern Yoeko Playlist

Yoeko Playlist
To all SoundCloud users. I recently made a playlist on SoundCloud that has every Yoeko Kurahashi song I could find. It was primarily developed because I wanted to listen to all of her music on SoundCloud in one playlist. Since then, I've been annoyed by having to switch back and forth between different playlists and searches. And I'd like for others to be able to listen to her music through a single playlist as well.

2024.01.02 06:13 Orixa1 VN Heroines Tier List (2 years of reading)

VN Heroines Tier List (2 years of reading)

The List
This list consists of heroines from all the VNs I've read in Japanese over the last 2 years (I wish I could could have read more). It's a way for me to reflect on that time by giving my impressions on each heroine as well as their routes while I still remember most of them very well. To be considered a heroine, they must have their own ending and ideally be a clear object of romantic interest. Just having H-scenes is not sufficient to be included.
S-Tier
Kouzuki Yura (Cartagra): The mastermind behind the murders in Cartagra, including a few other heroines we get to know throughout the VN. Despite really liking one of those characters, I couldn't bring myself to hate her for her actions. I should state that I don't think she's a good character in the main story because she only shows up for a few scenes near the end and we only hear about her tragic circumstances second-hand, rendering them ineffective at generating sympathy. However, the reason she's this high on the list is because of how much better written she is in the "Sacrament" chapters, which should absolutely be read and treated as the actual ending of Cartagra for anyone who hasn't. These chapters dive into her psychology and obsession with the MC from multiple perspectives, providing what was lacking in the main story. She's the star of the show in "Sacrament", whether as a tragic villain or a broken person getting a semi-redemption arc.
Araya Touka (Tsukikana): Whimsical, carefree, and mysterious, Touka crashes into the life of our MC as if solely to provide excitement to his life through her spontaneity. But all this is just her way of getting his attention. She fantasises about the MC being a prince come to save her from her miserable life despite knowing these expectations are impossible for anyone to live up to. This route is the embodiment of being in a "situationship" with a mentally unstable teenage girl. The toxic cycle of Touka cozying up to the MC, as if seeking sympathy and comfort, only to pull back due to self-hatred when he tries to provide it got a bit too real at times. I thought the ending was excellent, because she only goes back to the MC years later after dealing with her demons by herself and is sure she won't mess up the relationship again. It's a complete reversal from her initial fantasies.
Hishiki Uguisu (Tsukikana): Uguisu seems like a generic girl-next-door, but turns out to be hiding a surprising amount of depth that isn't apparent for quite some time into her route. In fact, she's quite a selfish character whose tragic flaw is that she is unable to value anything except the present. This is because of the fact that she has been living with a terminal illness for years, so she wants to make the most of every moment she has. It is this flaw that causes her to discontinue her experimental treatment early in order to spend more time with the MC, as well as not tell him for 8 years that she will die so as to not ruin the moment. As such, he has no time to prepare himself mentally and is dealt a blow he cannot recover from. I've never seen it mentioned, but it's actually Uguisu, not Touka, who is the MC's intermediary to the past in this route. This is why he is unable to change the past for a long time, as she doesn't want to lose the time they had together. She only relents when she sees that he really is never going to get over her death. She's a similarly tragic character in Touka's route, where she finds herself unable to move on from the MC despite making an effort to do so, just like he couldn't move on from her or Touka in their respective routes. In this way, they're extremely similar.
A-Tier
Sakagami Tomoyo (CLANNAD): A reformed delinquent who now hates resorting to violence despite her talent for it. She provides an interesting contrast to Tomoya, still in his rebellious phase, and tries to help him become a better person because of how much she relates to him. She works to advance herself academically and socially in order to accomplish her goal of saving the Sakura trees at her school, generating tremendous expectations of her future from those surrounding her. Yet she never bends to those expectations, and leaves contentedly once she accomplishes her goal because that's the only thing she wanted to begin with. A truly admirable person.
Mochizuki Rina (Fureraba): A sassy and mischievous girl, she has really great chemistry with the MC, second only to Yuzuyu in that regard. Rina has the only "aborted" H-scene that I've ever seen, cut short due to her getting too nervous before the act. It's revealed that she initiated before she was ready because she was afraid the MC would get bored of her if she didn't put out, an increasingly common problem. It was surprisingly considerate of them to include this, I don't think I've seen anything like it in a VN before. At the root of her insecurity is the devastating reveal that her parents really don't give a shit about her, even to the point of forgetting her birthday. I was not expecting any of this to be included in a comedy VN.
Murasame (Senren * Banka): The best loli heroine I've seen in any VN, and it's not even remotely close. She is cute, yet has few of the incredibly annoying childlike traits that almost all other characters of that type have (see Koharu). She has good chemistry with the MC, with a lot of wholesome interactions between them. It's a pretty feel-good route all around. Her struggles of being stuck in an immortal ghostlike form for centuries, and the ensuing isolation and lack of human connection is explored. I would've liked to see that delved into a bit more, but I'm still very happy with what I got.
Sakura Rein (Tsukikana): I honestly wasn't looking forward to this route at first, seeing as she is the "Gamer GF" heroine. I was worried that they wouldn't bother making her a good character, seeing as just by being that archetype she's virtually guaranteed to be a fan favorite anyway (see Meguru from Sanoba Witch). However, these worries were unfounded, and I ended up liking her by the end despite my initial bias. She has perfectly understandable reasons for being a shut-in and giving everyone the cold shoulder, involving her getting bullied for having blonde hair. Despite how having a unique hair color is usually portrayed as a charm point in media, standing out in Japan is not good. Her route is probably the best constructed of the three main heroines, although I personally didn't like it as much as the other two because it felt like tone work's was playing it safe. It's a route mainly focused on (very well done) slice-of-life and doesn't take any risks with what little plot it has. If you're looking for the "Gamer GF" experience in a VN, I would highly recommend playing this route.
Hitachi Mako (Senren * Banka): I was a pretty big fan of Mako during her route, which was quite wholesome similar to Murasame's. I thought it was interesting how she has insecurities about being a "side character" to Yoshino's "main character", which makes sense given her upbringing. Fortunately, she doesn't have to worry about being upstaged by the likes of Yoshino.
Hiiragi Yuzuyu (Fureraba): She has absolutely insane chemistry with the MC, they're hysterical whenever they're on screen together. The scenes between them early on are probably some of my favorite parts of the VN. It's a bit less fun as she becomes more "dere", but still a wholesome and necessary development for her character.
Matsumiya Kiriko (Tsukikana): A hardworking career woman, Kiriko feels significant social pressure from those around her to get married, but feels she may have missed her chance at 35. Although she has great chemistry with the MC, she's also 10 years older than him and his supervisor at work. This route deals with the age gap in a mature and respectful way, with the main theme being the difference between a "preference" and a "requirement" in a relationship. Compromises will have to be made if such a relationship is going to work, such as the MC having to prepare for marriage and children earlier than he might want, and she might prefer if he was further along and more stable in his career. It's a breath of fresh air to see this topic taken seriously in a VN, where significantly older unmarried heroines are usually treated as a joke by the other characters.
Shinonome Satsuki (KoiChoco): No surprises here, many people consider Satsuki the best heroine for good reason. Her teasing of the MC is always a treat to watch. The only bad thing is that her sister isn't an option also.
Aoki Touji (Cartagra): She's a one-armed badass, do I even need to say any more? She's a great friend to the MC, always getting him out of sticky situations in a satisfying way, unlike his sister. It was enjoyable having her around throughout the VN.
B-Tier
Kurahashi Seira (Tsukikana): I was expecting Seira to be the annoying one, but I ended up liking her instead. She's especially great as a side character in Uguisu's route. Her route tackles the age gap issue from the other side as she is significantly younger than the MC, particularly her struggle to be taken seriously by him. The route was pretty wholesome all around, but it was almost ruined by the fact that for some reason they decided to pack in almost all of her H-scenes after the main conflict was already resolved (and they were LONG). I'm not against H-scenes in general, but please space them out more and don't do all of them while the plot is winding down and I'm getting ready to move on.
Morishita Michiru (KoiChoco): The most mysterious person in the club, as well as the character we are introduced to first in the story. We don't learn much about her until her route which should be played last. I'll say that I really liked her voice, which was extremely pleasant to listen to. This actually motivated me to continue the story as she doesn't talk much. She gets bonus points for not using her traumatic backstory as an excuse to be toxic to everyone around her. Unsurprisingly, this greatly assists in generating reader sympathy for those tragic circumstances.
Aomi Isara (KoiChoco): A victim of severe bullying due to her poor background (she works in a factory under the school's supervision to pay her tuition) by almost every single other character in the VN. It's clear that even the main cast we follow don't see her as an equal and thumb their nose at her even at the best of times. Despite this cruel treatment, she never lets it change who she is, and treats everyone with kindness and respect. Things only get worse when the MC tries to stand up for the rights of the poorer students at the school. It's pretty fucked up that the VN tries to gaslight you into thinking this is a bad thing, as if to say you should have picked Chisato. All the other characters treat Isara even worse than they already did, and eventually desert the MC's election campaign. This culminates in him having to grovel pathetically before each of them and apologize for doing the right thing. It's quite telling that none of these characters react with anywhere close to this level of severity when the MC starts dating Satsuki who is the opposing candidate, and can't help but forever taint my view of them.
Fujibayashi Kyou (CLANNAD): I definitely like Kyou, she has great chemistry with Tomoya, and what little we got when they were on-screen together was great. Unfortunately, she falls victim to how her route is structured, and we don't really get much of them as a couple since the conflict is resolved when they get together. Not to mention Ryou being a third wheel for 90% of the route.
Rin (Cartagra): I definitely have a soft spot for Rin, whose playful nature brightened up a lot of the early part of the VN. Perhaps she could have been what Kazuna was to the MC had she not met her untimely demise. It was extremely cathartic to be given the option to save her in the HD remake, with her ending being one of my favorites in the VN.
Kouzuki Kazuna (Cartagra): A bundle of positivity, Kazuna exists in stark contrast to the grim setting. It's admirable that she wasn't brought down despite all that happened throughout the VN. Although she was possibly what the MC needed the most, she isn't as interesting as her sister. It's unfortunate that she is the canon love interest.
Miyazawa Yukine (CLANNAD): An extremely underrated character and route in my opinion. I think she isn't quite as airheaded as she seems, and just plays the fool to mess around with other people. This makes for some extremely good comedy with both Tomoya and Sunohara in her route. It was extremely heartwarming to hear the story of how she found lots of new friends after her brother's death and came together with them to honor his memory. It's a real shame that they turned her arc into a big dumb fight in the anime.
Ichinose Kotomi (CLANNAD): I have mixed feelings about Kotomi, on the one hand her voice is really pleasant to listen to, but the repetitiveness of some of the things she says got really annoying at times. また明日 and 半分こ are probably permanently seared into my brain after playing her route. It was such a relief when they started bringing in more characters to liven things up because things with Kotomi got way too repetitive. I only wish they brought in Sunohara as well (he carried so much of the VN, fr). Her backstory was probably one of the most well-written and effective parts of the VN, and definitely gave her a boost in my eyes.
Maniwa Roka (Senren * Banka): I liked what little I saw of Roka, her small romance with the MC was a pleasure to witness. Unfortunately she had to split time with a much worse character, so I didn't get to see as much of her as I wanted to. Even worse, it felt like Koharu got the lion's share of the time.
C-Tier
Tsukigahora Kirari (Tsukikana): Her release apparently caused significant controversy due to the fact that she is not a virgin. According to her character bio, she has a policy of never sleeping with the same man twice. I personally think it's hilarious that some people actually got mad over the chastity of a fictional character, and I was interested to see how the route would progress. Like, would the MC win her over with how good his D was? I couldn't wait to find out. To my disappointment, it didn't seem like the writers knew what to do with her either. She doesn't really have an arc, and her feelings towards the MC remain somewhat vague until the end. It's hinted that she has more depth to her, but we never really get to see it. Her route feels incomplete, and may have even been rushed out at the very end of development. On the flipside, she's much better as a side character in Uguisu's route.
Lena Liechtenauer (Senren * Banka): I was curious to see what they would do with a foreigner heroine, but she ended up being like some bizarre idea a Japanese person has about what foreigners are like. She is extremely forward, has comically large mammaries, and is a bit of an airhead. Although the comedy of having her mispronounce Japanese words didn't really land for me, I did find her entertaining at other times. I do think it's a bit strange that they made her route like the true route of Senren * Banka, where everything gets resolved. There should be a disclaimer to do her route last, otherwise the mystery will get spoiled.
Sawatari Misaki (Fureraba): She immediately catches your attention as the only heroine that is not formally introduced before you can meet her in the free-time events, and even comically has her back turned in the character select screen. I honestly thought her interactions with the MC were pretty entertaining, but this may be the first route in a VN that had me questioning the morality of pursuing a heroine. She appeared to not fully understand the implications of entering a relationship with the MC who tells her it's just like being "really close friends". It felt a bit like taking advantage of someone with a developmental disability at times.
Akiyoshi Fuyuka (Kanojo no Seiiki): Probably the best of the "Seiiki series" heroines and the one we're introduced to first. She's a modern tsundere and an estranged childhood friend to the MC. Although she's pretty generic, I have something of a soft spot for her as her VN is the first I completed in Japanese.
Ibuki Fuuko (CLANNAD): I considered not including her in the list, but she is technically a heroine because there is a romance option for her at the end of her route that comes out of nowhere. Although I thought her route as a whole was one of the better routes in the VN, I didn't much care for her antics.
Furukawa Nagisa (CLANNAD): Yes, I'm putting the main heroine this far down the list. The reason is that she's a pretty bland character in isolation. As proof of this, some of the most boring parts of the VN are when she's alone with Tomoya. He doesn't really bounce off her the same way he does with Tomoyo or Kyou. She only matters because of what she means to the other, much better characters surrounding her, such as Tomoya, Akio, and Sanae. She's a source of stability in Tomoya's life, and a precious daughter to her parents. Her loss did affect me, but only because of what it meant for the other characters.
Nase Yukana (Imouto no Seiiki): A typical incest heroine, Yukana adores her brother due to him helping her out of a bad phase in her life. As generic as they come.
Nase Yaeka (Gakkou no Seiiki): Similar to Roka, she falls victim to the fact that she is sharing time with a much worse character. As it stands, she ends up being another incest heroine who is less developed than Yukana.
Ayasaki Takako (Cartagra): An innocent and soft-spoken ojou-sama, Takako is a latecomer to the story, only being introduced in the second act. She comes seeking help from the MC to escape her arranged marriage. It's quite apparent that she was only designed to be a sympathetic victim in order to raise the stakes in the second act, and even her ending in the HD remake does not fix this problem.
Hatsune (Cartagra): An young prostitute-in-training harboring a secret crush on the MC. There's not really that much interesting about her, only acting as a "what-if" scenario for the MC giving up on solving the mystery.
Kiba Mifuyu (KoiChoco): I don't remember much that I thought was good about Mifuyu. I mostly dislike her because of her adoration of Chisato, as she will frequently chastise the MC for upsetting Chisato, as well as get angry at him for not dating her. Also, she only goes out with the MC in the end because she got Chisato's permission to do so. Because getting that permission is most of the conflict of her route, we get to experience a lot more Chisato, amazing.
Misaki Kanna (Tsukikana): Kanna can't help but stand out as the only person who acts like a stereotypical "anime character" in Tsukikana. I acknowledge that this makes sense given her background as a shut-in shoujo manga artist, but that doesn't make her any more interesting to me. It's difficult to explain, but she's lacking a certain depth that I felt every single other heroine in the VN had. It just seems like a waste in a VN with so many other well-written characters.
Tomotake Yoshino (Senren * Banka): I wasn't really a huge fan of Yoshino, mostly because she's part of one of the most forced pairings I've ever seen in a VN. First, she gets stuck together with the MC in an arranged marriage which is easily dissolved in most of the routes, so what was the point of even having it to begin with? Afterwards, it felt like she got together with the MC out of obligation due to him helping her out of a bad situation rather than because of any chemistry between the two. She has the exact same character arc as Rein but done worse, so there's nothing original there either. She would have been much better as a side character, contrary to Mako's perception of her as the main character.
Minahara Himari (Fureraba): I consider myself to have a pretty good memory when it comes to characters, but I'm completely drawing a blank when I try to think back to Himari. Which is strange, because I remember the other Fureraba heroines quite well. She can't have been that bad, because I would remember that, but she probably has little to nothing notable about her either.
Fujibayashi Ryou (CLANNAD): I honestly felt pretty bad for her in the twins route, as due to her apparent innocence she was clearly meant to be a victim and served that role well enough. Things start to go sideways in Kappei's route, however. I'm completely fine with the idea of her getting together with somebody other than Tomoya, as they aren't very well suited for each other. The problem is that the romance between her and Kappei isn't really developed at all. She just falls for him at first sight and is instantly comfortable around him despite how much she struggled with this in the twins route. It trivializes the struggle we just went through, as she can't have liked Tomoya enough to fight her sister for him if she's willing to instantly switch over. It makes her look like a shallow person who only wanted her sister's things. Also, the solution she comes up with to convince Kappei to live on is to fake a pregnancy, like, what?
D-Tier
Ootori Maika (Gakkou no Seiiki): Look, it's another eccentric foreigner otaku. See how weird and quirky she is? Unlike Lena, she is not even sometimes entertaining. Her only gags are that she likes to mix badly spoken Russian into her speech and do wacky dances. I had my Russian friend translate some of her lines for me as he was dying of cringe. His reactions were way more entertaining than the actual content of the VN, so that's got to count for something.
Kurama Koharu (Senren * Banka): It's as if all the annoying loli elements that Murasame doesn't have were distilled and put into one character. Loud, childlike, and stupid, Koharu is a nuisance whenever she's on screen. It seems like it's a legal requirement to have at least one of these types of lolis in a VN if there is to be lolis at all. Apparently there is a demographic that really likes these types of characters, but I have no idea why. Mercifully, she only gets half of a side route, so it's a small price to pay if it allowed Yuzusoft to make Murasame a good character.
Sumiyoshi Chisato (KoiChoco): Chisato starts off on the wrong foot by declaring the MC to be her property in her very first scene, and only gets worse as the VN progresses. Sure, it sucks that her brother died and all, but she uses that as an excuse to be an absolutely toxic person to everyone around her, most of all the MC. To make matters worse, the VN appears to view her atrocious behavior as justified (especially towards Isara), and condemns you as a bad person for not picking her. Almost immediately, I started to view her meltdowns when she isn't picked in each route as comedic rather than tragic, and it became one of my most anticipated parts of starting a new route.
Takashiro Nana (Cartagra): I actually despise this character, to the point of audibly groaning whenever she made an appearance on screen as I was reading. Not only is she incredibly annoying (acknowleged in-universe), she's at the root of many of the problems with Cartagra. This is because whenever the story starts getting interesting, she will just show up and tell the MC the solution to any mystery he is grappling with instead of having him work it out himself. She is also always 10 steps ahead of the MC in terms of detective work despite having no training while he has years of experience in the field. She makes the MC look incompetent at his job, and actively makes you feel stupid for even attempting to work out the solution to the mystery yourself. Keeping the MC as a mind-broken, incestuous sex slave in her route did not do wonders for my opinion of her either.
