2024.06.01 12:25 Crafty-Bunch-2675 When will it be my turn for success ?

So...I started off something. It's not making anything so I don't even feel confident enough to say what my art is.
Needless to say. I joined social media groups in hopes to market my art. And the amount of posts that show photos of people saying look how much I made in my first month
Needless to say. They've made more in a month than I have in a whole year.
Makes me want to take my year's worth of creations and burn it. Sigh...
For all my life I have had to struggle for everything.
For once I would like to be the person that strikes gold on the first go!
Is that too much to ask of the universe ! Why do some people get discovered, get their first business off the ground. Get a random inheritance... whilst the rest of us just keep trying and failing to make ends meet !
I don't want to be jealous of people. I just...want my own success too, you know.
I work hard at what I do.
That's all folks.
Feel free to call me bitter and jealous. Feel free to tell me that maybe my product/art just sucks.

2024.06.01 12:23 curlycrumble 23 [F4M] To be someone's ’tataya’ ☀️

I dream of a connection that doesn't have to try hard translating each others' souls—one that feels like home and is inhabitable for healthy energies whose goals are aligned. I long for that comfortable silence, rainy day embrace, flooded meme videos on our inboxes, and that warm forehead kiss after a busy day at work. In a world where sincerity is a rare find on an online setting, I'd still like to try.
About me: I graduated last 2023 is currently working as a government employee. I live in North Luzon with my family, and 5 dogs. I stand at 5'2, weighs 53 kgs, normal BMI, and in love with my curls and morena complexion. I like dressing up especially on days when I am extra stressed. My hobbies revolve around watching (films, shows, kdrama, anime), reading (books, manga), listening to music (any genre except rap or edm), and I'm on a constant journey of learning more hobbies because I like keeping myself busy. I think it's also worth mentioning that I have a flexible humor in line with being interested with meaningful discussions.
Hopefully, you're around 23-26 years old, stands 5'7 and up, working, furdad, family-oriented, is nerdy about his hobbies and goals in life, hopefully with the same interests as mine, lifestyle doesn't revolve around smoking/clubbing (non-negotiable), and is a very expressive individual who likes to tell stories and yap about life. (Still, feel free to dm if you're interested)
I haven't been on a physical date as meeting people makes me anxious, so I'd appreciate if we got to know each other online first—slowburn and careful. If you know you have ghosting tendencies or is only in it for a temporary companion, please spare the effort of building any connections.
If this interests you, an introduction that actually highlights you being you will be appreciated. Thanks! = )

2024.06.01 12:22 Mister_Macc Should I upgrade from my Samsung Galaxy S10lite?

I've had my Samsung Galaxy s10lite for about 5 years now, and it still does the job. I'm a power user who often watches shows/ youtube videos or plays video games. I also like nature photography. The main problem I've been having is the battery. When I reach ~20%, it starts to drain much faster than usual. The last 5% disappear in minutes. Other minor inconveniences include no 5G and only 60hz refresh rate.
However, since the s10lite has a 4500mph battery, it still works almost the entire day and only gives out towards the evening, where I'm at home anyway. So, while it's annoying, it's not a dealbreaker (yet).
Recently, I've been thinking about treating myself for my upcoming birthday with a new phone. However, I was disappointed by the specs of the Samsung Galaxy s24, as its battery is literally only 4000mph, and it is 0.5 inches smaller than my current phone. The 0.5 inches aren't a dealbreaker (I thought my current phone was already too big), but still, for the price, I would expect a significant upgrade. So anyways I kept looking and came across the s24ultra which in my eyes is the significant upgrade I've been looking for, however I am not sure whether the $1300 price tag is justified yet since my s10lite still works.
I also do not need a pen or a larger phone. I just want a normal phone that is a significant, future proof upgrade from my current one.
What do you guys think?

2024.06.01 12:19 BuckeyeReason "Common Good" statue by Jon Hudson Barlow located in Cooper Park

Saw the Dayton sculpture "Common Good" on an episode of "Applause," a PBS Ideastream production in Cleveland. It's in the second-to-last segment of the following episode. "Applause" often features Ohio artists, and this segment featured Jon Hudson Barlow, a graduate of the Dayton Institute of Art and former professor there, and whose sculpture studio is in his home town of Yellow Springs.
https://video.ideastream.org/video/music-in-prisons-kfcily/
I was very impressed by the statue, reportedly located at Cooper Park in Dayton behind Dayton Metro Library's main branch.
https://www.sculpturecenter.org/oosi/items/show/1502
https://www.hudsonsculpture.com/common-good/tcg-sculpture.html
Reading about Barlow, I noted he originally attended Urbana College, now closed, before transferring to the Dayton Institute of Art. I worry about the character of Ohio in coming decades as our liberal arts colleges increasingly fail and as Republicans continue to gut liberal arts programs at our state universities. I wonder what role Urbana College played in inspiring Barlow's career focus.
https://www.hudsonsculpture.com/art_sculpture_career.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Barlow_Hudson
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urbana_University
Anyway, this sculpture impressed me, more especially when I learned of its location behind a major library. Ohio's libraries also are suffering from state funding cuts, and librarians are among the most dedicated of public servants.
"Common Good" seems a unique, and very important Ohio sculpture. Too often we honor politicians and others of great public prominence, such as athletes. Too little we honor those relatively anonymous persons who are fundamentally important to our quality of life.
So, I am curious. How many persons in Dayton have enjoyed this sculpture? Is there plentiful parking at the Dayton Metro Library main branch?

2024.06.01 12:17 Serdinor Dear DE, would it be possible to add retired tilesets to the Leverian or an official archive?

Warframe is over 11 years old at this point and over its course many things have been altered and remade to accommodate the changes in the movement system, as well as the engine and lighting improvements. A lot of the game's history however is scarcely documented, right now you can of course find screenshots and videos of what the game used to look like, from tilesets to combat, but there aren't many attempts at archiving these aspects, particularly the retired map tilesets.
I just thought it would be nice if we could eventually add the now forgotten old map designs into an in-game archive, perhaps the Leverian, explorable in a free form or dojo-room design, that could even be accompanied by dev commentary on the development of the game and the design process and ideas behind these maps (for example have an interactive prompt in certain areas that would start the audio regarding that tileset).
Over time more of the old maps will change and I find it a shame that we lack documentation of these things that albeit old, narrate the design process and evolution of the game through the years. There are even in-game tilesets currently present in the game that due to their spawning rarity that players have never seen them, I can recall a Uranus underwater map section I saw a few months ago and it was my first encounter with it in over 6-7 years of playtime.
I do understand that suggestions like this take development time and effort away from other things your team may be focusing on. I just hope that eventually something of the sort would make an appearance in some official capacity, be it in video form, in-game form or something else.

2024.06.01 12:17 Historical-Shock7965 Ug Lee was hawt! 🔥

I've been rewatching Salute Your Shorts and it's so much fun doing it!! FYI Paramount Plus only has 10 episodes of the original 26, but you can see the entire series free on Internet Archive!
As a young girl I definitely saw Ug as hot at times (I had good taste even then). Watching it now, I mean wow Ug is really hot. He's in amazing shape and he's got a hot face. Kirk Baily was in his late 20s when the show aired, but wonder how old his character was supposed to be. Maybe 22? who's with me?
PS Rest in peace Kirk Baily who passed away in 2022.

A wick check for InexplicableLanguageFluency.

For one, it doesn't make sense for the latter examples to be there since the title has the word "fluency" in it. Secondly, many of the latter examples can be moved to BilingualDialogue or AmplifiedAnimalAptitude.
'''Wicks checked''': 50/72
'''Wick totals''':
* 21/50 wicks, or 11.5%, were clear examples of a character demonstrating fluency in a language they never learned. * 24/50 wicks, or 12% were examples of a character understanding a language without demonstrating fluency. * 4/50 wicks, or 2%, were written in a way that made it unclear whether they were being used correctly. * 1/50 wicks, or 1.5%, was an aversion.
[[folder:Characters demonstrating fluency in a language they never learned (21/50)]] * Characters.AtlantisTheLostEmpire: The Atlanteans are able to fluently communicate with the explorers from the surface in English and French. This is handwaved as their own language being a precursor to all other languages. * Characters.YaBoyKongming: ** Kongming finds himself immediately fluent in Japanese despite having never learned the language, and the Japan of his era was still a dwarf country that mostly only sent envoys to Shu's rival kingdom of Wei. Eiko points out the absurdity of how an ancient Chinese figure can suddenly speak Japanese, and Kongming himself is at a loss of how he can do this. * Characters.YellowjacketsCrashSurvivors: [[spoiler:She, and by extension others in the Antler Queen cult she forms, randomly speak French on occasion, which Lottie at least is ''not'' fluent in, indicating mental instability.]] '''If this is supposed to be an inversion, it's correct, but it should be rewritten to mention that it's an inversion.''' * ComicBook.Asterix: Gauls can speak to most foreign peoples without any difficulty. Either everyone can speak Gaulish, or the Gauls can speak other languages, but either way is downright impossible. * ComicBook.UltimateFantasticFour: ** Downplayed. Namor demonstrates this trope after spending nine thousand years of being sealed inside a sarcophagus prison. Being from an ancient civilization of Atlantis that predates the modern English language, he initially has no idea what his new captors are saying when they find him. However, thanks to his psionic powers he proves to be a frighteningly fast learner and is able to learn English within an hour to understand modern American English and casually deliver threats and demands. ** Happens again when the Four meets the Silver Surfer who is able to understand English perfectly the instant he arrives to Earth for the first time. He justifies this by stating can decipher electromagnetic signals in the air to learn alien tongues in seconds. * Friends.TropesFToJ: Zig-zagged. "The One Where Ross Can't Flirt" has her speaking with Joey's Italian grandmother, with Phoebe seeming as surprised about this as Joey. But in an earlier episode, Rachel's former lover Paulo calls her "bellissima" and she doesn't understand. ->'''Joey:''' Wow, Phoebs, you speak Italian?\\ '''Phoebe:''' Apparently. * Film.ExorcistTheBeginning: In-universe, the main characters note Cheche's sudden fluency in English after being brought to the hospital. Of course this is because it is Pazuzu speaking through him and not actually Cheche. '''This is DiscussedTrope, not InUniverse'''. * Film.{{Phenomenon}}: Downplayed. After a UFO encounter, George gains a form of superintelligence where he can learn complicated tasks and subjects quickly, to the point where he's able to fluently speak Portuguese after reading an English-to-Portuguese dictionary for twenty minutes. This was foreshadowed in an earlier scene where after usually fumbling to speak Spanish, he's suddenly able to speak it perfectly, to the point that his Hispanic coworker half-seriously declares that it's better than his. * Literature.ForgottenRuin: When Talker and Vandahar speak during the final stretch to the Hidden Cave, Vandahar speaks in what we would recognize as modern German, which of course makes communicating with him very easy for Talker but raises a few questions. * Literature.InCryptid: Of the GeneticMemory version. When Candice the Dragon Princess comes up against the LizardFolk wandering about the New York sewers, she's able to make them halt using a guttural language. She reveals to Verity that it's a inborn language all Princesses know and something the "Servitors" are meant to respond to. She's also never used it before as Servitors can only be created from a [[spoiler:living male dragon]]. * Literature.SeasonalFears: Aven is essentially in a coma all her life but, thanks to the alchemical knowledge tinctures of her father', she speaks perfect English even if there are some issues with definitions. * Literature.ShiversMDSpenser: Bubbie moves to France with her family and meets a new French kid, Jean-Luc, and can somehow converse with him without any language issues; at the end of the story she can hold a long conversation with a stranger in French, despite spending less than a week in the country. Previous books with an overseas setting will at least attempt justifying this trope (for instance, ''Terror on Troll Mountain'' has the protagonist's Italian family choosing to speak in English because they're anticipating American guests) but this one handwaves the issue until it's a borderline plot hole. * Recap.AsterixAndTheGoths: Getafix is able to speak fluent Gothic, despite being a Gaulish druid who has no logical reason to know it (especially considering how antagonistic the Goths are in this story). * Recap.FriendsS5E19TheOneWhereRossCantFlirt: Phoebe speaks with Joey's Italian grandmother, with [[InexplicableLanguageFluency Phoebe seeming as surprised about this as Joey]]. '''Joey:''' Wow, Phoebs, you speak Italian?\\ '''Phoebe:''' Apparently. * Recap.TalesFromTheDarksideS4E6TheGraveRobber: Aileen is surprised to hear Tapok speaking English when he wakes up, the mummy giving an offhand mention that he can speak the language of anyone who violates the tomb. * Roleplay.WanyaKingdomVSAwoofyUnity: Fragment has been shown to speak any language even if he has never heard it before. * Series.{{Llanargollen}}: In "Dirgelwch y Llyfr Coll", Prys and Barti speak to each other in Swahili. It seems incredibly unlikely that Prys would be fluent in that language, and Barti only speaks in unintelligible grunts with individual words thrown in. The other characters barely react to this. * VideoGame.EternalReturnBlackSurvival: The test subjects are able to work together with each other in spite of how one would presume that the vast majority of them would be completely unable to verbally communicate with most of the others. {{Averted}} by some of the achievement lore entries, which include statements observed from test subjects that some of which have a note underneath which states the words were translated by AI and will be reviewed and localized further in the future. '''Since this seems to be an implied example rather than a straight example, and it seems to be ambiguous InUniverse whether it's this or BilingualDialogue, I'll leave it here.''' * VideoGame.MegaManBattleNetwork2?: [=MegaMan=]'s translation system allows Lan to speak flawless Netopian after they arrive in Netopia. * WesternAnimation.{{Pocahontas}}: English explorer John Smith meets the alluring Pocahontas of the Powhatan tribe. Smith doesn't know her language, nor she his. That is, until Pocahontas takes a breath of magic wind. Suddenly, her English is better than his. [[/folder]]
[[folder:Aversions (1/50)]] * DarthWiki.{{Aquilaverse}}: ''Averted'' Not inexplicable, since her spell "Xenographus" let's her read any language she encounters for a limited duration. [[/folder]]
[[folder:Unclear (4/50)]] * Characters.FrightKrewe: His power makes him this. He has the ability to communicate with anyone and understand anything they say, whether its a [[InexplicableLanguageFluency person]], an [[SpeaksFluentAnimal animal]], or an [[NatureSpirit 'elemental entity']]. '''The way the example is written, it's not clear whether it's this or BilingualDialogue.''' * Recap.CreepshowS1E3BadWolfDown: Doc is shown to speak French and understands the language quite fluently, allowing him to translate the explanation of the werewolf woman's plight. '''You can't "understand a language fluently". Does he ''speak'' it fluently, or at least speak it better than he should realistically be able to?''' * Series.AlloAllo: Frenchmen, Germans, and Italians can talk to each other. This is never explained. '''In their own languages, or...?''' * WesternAnimation.SpaceChimps: The [[SpeaksFluentAnimal aliens]] and [[InexplicablySpeaksFluentAlien chimps]] understand each other, despite that the chimps have just arrived on their planet. '''Does one of them speak the other's language, or do they just understand each other's languages?''' [[/folder]]
!!!'''Characters being able to understand a language without demonstrating fluency (24/50) 12%''' [[folder:Amplified Animal Aptitude (7/50) '''3.5%''']] * Literature.MrsFrisbyAndTheRatsOfNIMH: The animals can understand humans and each other, but can't talk to humans. This leads to a bit of FridgeLogic as to where exactly all these animals picked up English (justified for the rats, as they were taught it in the lab, but not for any of the others), and whether they can understand other human languages automatically as well. * Recap.TheSimpsonsS6E6TreehouseOfHorrorV: When Homer is sent back in time to a prehistoric era, and has to avoid stepping on anything to change the future, he ends up swatting a mosquito then asks for reassurance that it won't change the future. He is understood despite being in an era before English existed, since a sloth behind him shrugs and grunts as if to say "I don't know." * TheSimpsons.TropesIToM: ** In "Treehouse of Horror V", when Homer is sent back in time to a prehistoric era, and has to avoid stepping on anything to change the future, he ends up swatting a mosquito then asks for reassurance that it won't change the future. He is understood despite being in an era before English existed, since a sloth behind him shrugs and grunts as if to say "I don't know." '''Just checked and the sloth doesn’t say “I don’t know”, it just grunts with an intonation that indicates that that’s what it was saying. So, not fluent in English.''' * Tarzan.TropesGToZ ** Played straight when Jane talks to a baby baboon and he understands her. * TotalDrama.TropesHToP: Some wild animals--especially squirrels--can understand humans. * WesternAnimation.FindingNemo: Dory understands English. The fish in the tank understand English because they've been hearing humans all their life, but there's no reason for Dory to understand English. [[spoiler:Subverted in that ''WesternAnimation/FindingDory'' reveals she was raised in a marine life institute in California.]] '''Since it says “understand” and not “speak” I can only assume this is a case of TranslationConvention and AnimalTalk, which means they aren’t actually fluent in English.''' * WesternAnimation.SpiritStallionOfTheCimarron: Spirit, despite not having had any human contact before his capture, understands what the human characters are saying. [[/folder]]
[[folder:Bilingual Dialogue (11/50)]] * Characters.MashupWeekMegamixCompetitors: Despite the fact that all 3 members speak different languages (English for Scoop, French for Eric and Italian for Baba), they can be understood by each other and by others easily. * Film.NoTimeToDie: James Bond's 5-year-old daughter, Mathilde, understands English even though her mother Madelaine speaks to her in French and all the media she consumes is in French. * Film.Titanic1997: Jack and the Swedish men understand each other well enough that Olaf is able to bet his tickets for all Jack and Fabrizio's money. * FinalFantasyXIV.TropesGToI?: ** In ''Heavensward'', the Warrior and Alphinaud are startled by how they can understand the great wyrm Hraesvelgr, who only speaks the language of dragons. They learn that while other races may not speak the dragon's language, the inherent power and magic in a dragon's song essentially beams meaning directly into the hearer's mind. ** The Scions are shocked in ''Shadowbringers'' when they meet [[spoiler:Emet-Selch's recreation of the lost city of Amaurot, the home of the BenevolentPrecursor race. Although the ancient version of mankind spoke only in a StarfishLanguage of droning tones, the Scions born millennia after the world was sundered find that they're able to discern meaning from it.]] * Literature.CookingWithWildGame: Lampshaded. One of the few supernatural parts of the setting is that [[TrappedInAnotherWorld Asuta]] can understand its inhabitants' language (almost) perfectly. Nobody knows why, nor do they ever find out; it's essentially one of the AcceptableBreaksFromReality needed to get the plot going. * Literature.{{Fablehaven}}: After receiving magic from fairies, Kendra gains the ability to interpret their language intuitively despite never actually learning it. * Manga.MiriyaAndMarie: Aside of occasional GratuitousFrench, Miriya can understand all French and animal characters and vice versa. Blackey also tries to charge Miriya for massage in yen despite being French. * VideoGame.KnightsOfTheOldRepublic: Yes, your character understands plenty of languages, but there isn't anyone who ''should'' understand the language of the AbusivePrecursors. [[spoiler: Subverted. Turns out you'd been there before and learned the language, but just forgotten the whole thing between Malak's backstab and whatever the Jedi did to "rebuild" you]]. '''When moving this to BilingualDialogue, I would rewrite it as “Your character understands plenty of languages, but can only speak one.''' * WebOriginal.MashupWeek: In both tournaments, Flat Eric speaks French, but everyone can understand him perfectly. Same with Gigi, who speaks Italian. * WesternAnimation.JosieAndThePussycats: ''[[RecycledWithAGimmick In Outer Space]]'' has Melody encounter an alien creature that looks like cotton candy with eyes and flippers. The critter speaks in a series of bleeps, and Melody names him Bleep. [[InexplicablySpeaksFluentAlien She can also understand him perfectly, and acts as translator for everyone else]]. Also, Bleep seems to understand English just fine. '''I also think InexplicablySpeaksFluentAlien should be limited to people actually speaking Alien instead of just understanding it, but that’s for another time.''' [[/folder]]
[[folder:Other (6/50)]] * Characters.InfinityTrainSeekerOfCrocusMultiverse: Upon looking at some files from the old phone Oscar picked up, he's somehow able to read ''Aztec glyphs'' just by looking at it. [[spoiler:This is probably due to his covenant with Agares, as one of Agares' ability is to let his conjurer read and understand different languages.]] * Fanfic.InfinityTrainSeekerOfCrocus: Kaito is somehow able to read ''Aztec glyphs'' just by looking at it. [[spoiler:This is probably due to his covenant with Agares, as one of Agares' ability is to let his conjurer read and understand different languages.]] * Characters.YaBoyKongming: ** Kongming also demonstrates an ability to understand English, as he is able to tell that the English song Eiko sings to him is a love song, with enough comprehension to be moved by a vision of his old comrades due to the lyrics referencing being still alive and alone. Later, upon meeting Tsuyoshi Kondo after Eiko's performance at the Yoyogi Art Festival, Kongming easily translates his GratuitousEnglish for a confused Kobayashi, and he's even become friends with a foreigner in Roppongi, who speaks exclusively in English. He's capable of some GratuitousEnglish himself, to boot. * Recap/CreepshowS2E2PublicTelevisionOfTheDead: Goodman reveals to Ted, out of nowhere, that he can read Sumerian, allowing him to translate the Necronomicon's incantations and let Evil roam free once again. * Series.{{Carnivale}}: During the fireball show, Samson secretly passes an old Crusader fob up to the stage during Lodz's psychometry act. When Lodz touches it, he's struck by visions of a holy war and begins chanting ''"In hoc signo vinces!"'' Ben, an uneducated farmboy, surprises Samson by translating even though he doesn't even recognize the language is Latin: '''Ben Hawkins:''' By this sign we conquer... by this sign we conquer... * WesternAnimation.SpaceChimps2ZartogStrikesBack: Zartog understands the humans, despite having just arrived on Earth. He even understands Spanish, Hindi, and Xhosa upon hearing them for the first time, making the humans' inability to understand him even more hilarious. [[/folder]]

2024.06.01 12:13 GeoTheFloofy Show me your most UNIQUE OCs! I wanna see em' :3

(The second drawing is slightly older than the first. I fixed the eyes and added a flower crown in the first one :3)
Here is Me! (aka Geo) he is a Fennekitsune, which is a mix between a Fennec Fox and a Kitsune :3 I've never seen any Character from media/OC that looks like him! I kinda just tried my best to make him unique and memorable. That's why I tried to stylise his ears, give him some bright colour and give myself a semi-unique artstyle :3
(Took inspiration from OMORI for the artstyle :3)
Well anyways, I'm excited to see everyone's unique OCs! I love seeing unique designs and characters that I never really would of thought to make! I am currently making some new OCs, but they're mainly just background characters. Im trying to make them as unique as I can just to stand out :3
Also, feel free to ask me any questions about Geo or how I designed him! I always love chatting and stuff :3
Anyways, enough of my rambling, show me them OCs >:3

2024.06.01 12:12 uuam Questioning the morality of choice to rebel against Kyros vs submitting to him/her in the end.

Hi. Here's what I have a problem with choosing to rebel against Kyros at the end of the game, because based on everything the game shows and tells me, the Tiers will simply not survive the next war with Kyros, and so close to the first one no less.
Here's some facts:
Are these facts alone enough to justify rebelling against Kyros? Here's what i'm getting at: If you rebel against Kyros, there will undoubtedly be the second war, and likely the third, etc, until Tiers and Fatebinder are dead. Based on everything the game tells me, it seems like the far better option for the Fatebinder is to bring the Tiers into the empire as quickly and bloodlessly as possible, killing Nerat and SChorus as early as possible as they seem like by far the biggest threat to the people of Tiers, then submit to Kyros in the end, to bide their time and rejuvenate the region under a more benevolent rule?
Should you rebel against Kyros, it starts a whole new invasion, and i'm afraid the remainder of the population of the tiers is simply not enough to mount any kind of lasting resistance to Kyros, and even if Fatebinder can cancel and stop edicts, it doesn't prevent new edicts being issued, so there is going to be initial impact damage (which is calamitous, from everything we've shown) so no kind of resistance on a shred of land being bombarded by magic can survive and be a factor for long.
Isn't it the better choice to take control of the Tiers under Kyros's name, and rule the region with as much efficiency and prosperity as Kyros's laws allow until the scars left by the war are healed, people replenished and land fertile again? (at least 2 of the tiers' major realms are made into deserts that produce no food).
Yes, Kyros is the ultimate evil faction in the world of Terratus, but it's practically cruelty beyond imagining to start the meatgrinder all over again so close to the first calamitous invasion.
What thoughts does anyone have on the matter?

2024.06.01 12:11 Similar_Set_6582 My account was banned from TV Tropes. Can someone do me a favor?

Just copy this, paste this into a sandbox, then make a thread in the Trope Repair Shop linking to it. The thread shall be titled "Needs Help: Inexplicable Language Fluency".
A wick check for InexplicableLanguageFluency.
'''Why?''': InexplicableLanguageFluency seems to lump in examples of characters demonstrating fluency in a language they've never learned with examples of characters merely understanding a language they never learned.
2024.06.01 12:10 PlzHelpFindMyMaddie Pi Brainstorm Apps kinda...suck

Is it just me or are most, if not all, of the Apps you see when in the Brainstorm section of the Pi Browser just look really unprofessional, unpolished, & all around lazy? Most, for example, can't even be bothered to use a text-to-speech that doesn't sound like a total fob. Many of them don't even bother to have correct grammar or spelling for their descriptions or YouTube videos narrations. Would it kill them to have someone fluent in English double-check their work? I'm bilingual in English & Mandarin, and it's just so obvious when they do a direct translation of certain Chinese phrases and idioms. It's honestly just so cringe. How are these devs not embarrassed uploading what would be considered basic grade school errors? While there are some that do have a decent English translation, they end up ruining it by using a text-to-speech program with a thick-ass accent. Like come on bro, if you already got the text down, all you had to do was use a half decent (and free) text-to-speech program. Do these devs not consider how bad their YouTube vids sound in English? I get if the app is targeted toward a Chinese demographic, which if that's the case, why not just do the whole video narration in Chinese? Idk, I just feel like if you're going to do something, you ought to do it right. Everything just reeks of half-assedness. It makes me sad and doubtful of the overall future success of Pi in general... 😮‍💨
P.S. I apologize for the rant. But if anyone can help me understand what's going through the minds of these devs then maybe I can empathize with them more.

2024.06.01 12:10 Similar_Set_6582 My account was banned from TV Tropes.

[[/folder]]

2024.06.01 12:09 Snowflake_2024 The Helicopter Event VS Me, THE COWARD PLAYER

I'm fairly new to the game (13 hours). After losing around 7 characters I'm finally getting the hang of the game and I'm currently in my LONGEST playthrough yet which is day 6.
Here's whats going on: I'm in Rosewood and I've got a temporary base set up in the closest house to the fire station. After watching a bunch of videos on zombies and loot knowledge I've finally gathered the courage to kill zeds only when I absolutely need to. For days 1-5 I killed ONE single zed and almost had a panic attack while doing so. But on day 6 (9am) I found an umbrella followed by a crowbar and shakily killed 14 in one hour.
Then I built up enough courage to go to the fire station. I killed 4 zeds outside, and the bottom floor of the building was completely zed free.
HERE'S WHERE THE FCKED UP PART COMES IN. I had 1 room and the locker area left to clear upstairs. After almost getting a heart attack from a jumpscare of one zed in the bunk room, I went to the lockers and found a firefighter jacket! I was so hyped to put it on because along with the firefighter pants and hardhat I found, (literally 2 minutes ago). This was the best protection gear I've ever had in project zomboid. I quickly went to the bathroom to organize inventory. And the second I put the goddamn jacket on I hear the faint sound of the dreaded helicopter.
My heart was already racing like crazy from the most eventful 3 hours of my in game life. I immedietly quit to desktop and my hands are shaking. Like the title says I'm a total coward and the first time I manage to take a TINY step out of my comfort zone I get smacked down by the helicopter.
I'm still hiding in the bathroom tightly gripping my axe and trying not to pee in these new firefighter pants. None of the windows have covers. I'm absolutely terrified of the thought of stepping out. Will the zeds break into the fire station? Will I be swarmed? Should I be expecting them standing outside this bathroom door when I go to open it? What to I do??

2024.06.01 12:06 Guillaume_Taillefer Want to help with archiving WWII and the US Airborne?

This is an example of a letter from my great uncle who joined the First French Army near the end of the war. It is a letter that mentions many things that avid followers of the show and books know about (The whole thing was found in two pieces in different parts of the same collection, but there is an english translation for each one).
https://preview.redd.it/k5go18yqpx3d1.png?width=690&format=png&auto=webp&s=41c31b4da3388f3a99ed97ef675f2ec84473da9e
  1. First Page
  2. Second Page
Like many letters from the WWII time period, they've been kept in attics, boxes, and stored away, hard to find, and maybe even never seen again. You can replace these with whatever you want, photos, survivors, documents, items, and the same thing almost applies. One thing is clear, much of the information of the WWII era is being scattered and lost.
That is why I came up with the website, the WWII Archives (https://wwii-archives.org), which allows for anyone to join to create the most detailed articles about each subject from the WWII era. In doing this we attempt to archive and find all that scattered information, to bring it together to make these articles
Some example articles include people I've interviewed (Joe McPhail, Paul Blackmon), Units (A Co, 116th IR), VMF-323)), and family (Raymond Traumann whose letter is above). If your article even is notable enough we will summarize it in a blog and post it on social media.
https://preview.redd.it/nptkl9lmlx3d1.png?width=190&format=png&auto=webp&s=83290bc4d697958315a95d6909431b52c9bad59d
For this subreddit, although again you may write on any subject from that era, we are interested in people that would like to contribute and write about Easy Company, its members, 1st battalion, the 506th, the 101st, the 82nd, and anything related to those things. There are especially some niche and unknown things about the 101st out there that haven't really been well documented. For example a while back I started looking into a paratrooper named Bernie Gaudreau. If anyone has any information on him and other things we need help with that. Since the 80th anniversary of D-Day any information that can be contributed through that would be great.
Not only would you be able to write about general WWII things, but also about your family, other people from the time, very niche topics, and even things that don’t have to do with the war, but happened during the time period. Most importantly, you would be contributing to the scholarship for that time period in general.
All that it takes is to go to the website, sign up, read the Editing and Multimedia Guides (and Interview Guide if you’re interviewing), and then you are free to contribute!

2024.06.01 12:06 No_Constant8009 It's mind-blowing how much self promotion this woman has time for when she's busy fighting imaginary terminal cancer.

This chick is on Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, Facebook (at least two different Facebook accounts), LinkedIn, YouTube, AND has a blog. She posts regularly, if not daily, on ALL of them, with highly edited videos, not just quick little "record and post" videos. This woman who is so sick and in so much pain from #terminalcancer that she can only stay awake 3-4 hrs per day, finds the time to post content on allll the socials multiple times a day. She also finds the time and strength to reach out to people to ask for free things, like a $3,500+ cat for her son, free clothes and makeup, a free trip for her entire family to Italy, skydiving, the list goes on. She reaches out to journalists to write stories on her and run stories on local news stations, podcasts, etc. Everything about her is about self-promotion. If it's not about her fake terminal cancer, it's about her infant son dying 25 years ago.

2024.06.01 12:05 Soup-Cool 31[M4F]#UK #Online - Looking for ,my player 2

Hey all hope you're having a great day :)
So like most people i'm missing that special person in my life and it would be really nice to find someone that i can relate to, be 100% honest and open with and generally find my best friend.
Hopefully this would start out as friendship and if we click then we click, open to anyone from anywhere :)
Some stuff about me/hobbies
Video games, this is my biggest hobby by far, i play have an pretty big library of games i play so if you game, there is a high chance we would share stuff we could play, a few games i play often, League(i question it too don't worry) soulsbourne games (unga bunga builds) fallout's, i mainly play pc but have a switch and ps4 too.
TV/Film, if not doing the above, you can find me binge watching shows or films, such as B99, the office HIMYM, GoT (we can discuss how shit the last season was forever), Star Wars, Marvel stuff, SAW.
Animals, i have 2 dogs (yes i'll show you lots of pictures) and in general i love animals so much, so i'll probably spam you with pictures of random animals i think are cute or funny :)
Music, i listen to a wide variety of stuff, from rock and metal to dance/pop some electro swing, rap and other stuff, in general if i like a song i'll listen to it on repeat till i hate it but still listen to it anyway.
I try and be witty and funny most the time, I have a stupid sense of humour but will try and make you laugh most of the time, I can be shy to start with but i open up pretty quickly when i get comfortable with you :)
Don't be shy and hit me up if you think we would get on :)
