This is one of my first posts on here, but after watching Cody Ko’s reddit reading of bad roommates, I got inspired. Although this living situation has been over for around a month now, I still felt the need to post about this since it caused me and my friends so much HORROR. This story will be a little out of order, but I’m mainly going by each element, and all the names will be fake for privacy reasons. For some background information, me and my friend, Sky, decided last year to continue living in campus housing in an apartment. However, we were not lucky enough to get a two person apartment and instead went with a four person where we had two random people living with us. That’s why we were put in this situation with this girl, we did not know what living with her would bring to us beforehand.
Starting off, Harper (bad roommate) would also always leave her dirty dishes in the sink where they would sit for days before my other roommate Anastasia (now best friends with) would clean them up since none of us wanted to touch them. A little bit of additional context, both Sky and Anastasia have OCD, and one of their obsessions has to do with contamination. On top of that, I am a big germaphobe to the point where I believe things that have come into contact with something I consider to be dirty have now been contaminated. This would be less annoying if these were her dishes, but these were the dishes that I bought for us to all use. She did the same with the pots/pans/cooking utensils that my other roommates had brought, where she would either leave them on the stove or in the sink for days. On top of that, whenever she used the stovetop, she would almost never clean it after so there would just be food stains/scraps/oil splatters left around for us to clean in her stead. When she did clean up the stove, it was clear she just did it with a dry paper towel as oil would just be smeared around.
It wasn’t just dishes and food she didn’t help clean up either, she also never helped clean around the apartment and ignored us when we did (I’m guessing so she didn’t have to help). Harper never cleaned the bathroom she shared with Anastasia, she hardly ever took out the trash and recycling despite us having assigned days for it, she only ever did these when I explicitly told her she had to since it was full on her day. She never wiped down the kitchen counter on her assigned day unless explicitly asked, and she never filled nor emptied the dishwasher. One part that I find especially funny was when we were having one of our roommate meetings (mainly held for us to bring up the things we need her to do/start doing without directly naming her) where we brought up the topic of all of us helping out with the cleaning, and she told us that she vacuums the living room rug when no. one. is. home. How convenient, huh. (I would also like to add that this was her rug🙄)
That’s not all though, another thing that Harper never did for us was buy any of the equally shared things. She never bought dish soap, kitchen hand soap or bathroom hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, or dishwasher pods. If you can think of it we can name it as something she didn’t buy. None of these are necessarily bank breaking expensive, but if you’re equally sharing a product with others, you should also pitch in every once in a while. But I think the cherry on top of it all was that she seriously stunk. I’m not talking like bad perfume or slight B.O. either. I’m talking she just ran a marathon without deodorant and then swam a lap through a dumpster, bad.
When Harper first moved in, we thought that it was maybe just a one time thing where she could have forgotten deodorant and with all the heavy lifting from move-in the smell got even worse, so we just opened the windows and sucked it up. But it wasn’t just a one time thing, it was an entire school year thing where me and my roommates were stuck with this stench. I know describing it like this may make me and my roommates seem like mean girls, but it really was just that bad. Some examples to put it into perspective include me being able to smell when she returned home despite being in the shower with water, my shampoo/conditioner and body wash supposedly dampening the smell. Me and my roommates were also able to tell if she was home or not based purely off of smell, and her room was permanently stuck with her B.O. whether or not she was home. Making things worse for Sky and myself, our bathroom just happened to be right across from Harper’s bedroom so her stench would always go into it. It reached the point where we would either be going through bottles of febreze to clear up the air enough for us to simply use our bathroom or holding our breath until we were out. I feel like from that alone I’ve gotten to the point where I could beat an olympic swimmer in a breath holding contest without breaking a sweat. Her smell also soaked into my towels to dry off from showering even if I had only used them once and made sure before and after that I did not smell before using them. Her B.O. occasionally leaked into Sky’s room who was right next to hers, so she would have to face her fan towards the window and put it on high. If Harper went to use the kitchen or stayed in another room, that was now a room that could not be simultaneously occupied by us.
All of this, but especially the smell, lead to many breakdowns among me and my roommates throughout the year. I know this might seem extreme to some, but it truly affected our mental health quite a bit, even changing our daily functioning patterns. And before you question if we brought all these concerns up with her, I want you to know that we did. Throughout the 9 months we lived with her, we had at least 4-5 roommate meetings where we brought up the smell and lack of cleaning. Despite us starting out nice and saying that we noticed a smell, or a lack of cleaning, we eventually moved to just straight up telling her the smell was her and we needed her to do more cleaning. We even texted her or let her know privately outside these meetings. Almost every time we were either ignored, deflected, or told false promises. There was even one solid week near the end of second semester where we noticed she just didn’t smell at all. Like did her laundry and showered but was still living with us like before so I believe that it showed she could have just done that all along but didn’t care (I very well could be wrong).
Also if you’re concerned that this may be related to mental health, culture, or other causes, we also covered those bases. First of all, it is not culture related. Harper is white and also owns deodorant, which Anastasia has said she’s never seen actually be used. She also showers, but once again, Anastasia has told us she hasn’t seen her body wash go down. I know that might seem weird, but when you’re stuck in an apartment with someone who smells, you’re bound to check those things. We’ve also rarely seen her do laundry in our in-home washer and dryers (I’m talking 3-4 times for the entire 9 months), or even wash her bedding.
We also tried to get her to open up about if she has depression or if any other causes could be related to it by sharing some of our own mental health troubles and such. This, of course, does not mean she’s obligated to open up to us, but due to nothing being said we have no reason to believe this is the case. It very well could be, but since we do not know for sure we can not default to assumptions as excuses for her behavior. We also tried bringing this up with our RA near the end of second semester, but we never heard anything back on it. A part of me feels bad for how I feel about Harper and spoke about her since she is a nice person (although it was more basic human decency) but I feel that all these negative experiences have just been transferred to her and I can’t erase those. There is still more things I could bring up but this post has gotten long.

At the risk of sounding arrogant, I consider myself to be at least marginally more intelligent (both academically & socially) than the average person. Therefore, if I ever decided to suddenly risk prison time, risk my reputation, and risk enduring the wrath of modern-day “cancel culture” by scamming people out of their money:

I certainly wouldn’t do it for such paltry amounts of money. (i.e., anything less than $1,000 per victim.)
I certainly wouldn’t choose high school & college students as my “target audience” to scam, considering that most people without college degrees have abysmally low annual incomes. Why choose low-income victims when it would be much more profitable to target high-income, high-net-worth individuals earning at least six figures a year? I have knowledge in business consulting, and I promise you that a business owner would be a MUCH more lucrative mark than a low-income college student.
I wouldn’t choose such a time & energy-draining method of scamming people. Also, communicating back and forth with potential clients is an absurdly long time sink since only less than 10% of all potential clients who reach out to me actually become paying clients of mine. This means that 90% of my time communicating with potential clients ultimately proves to be a colossal waste of my irretrievable time & energy.
If you pay me to provide academic services and I don’t deliver, you can always dispute the payment with the payment app and easily get your money refunded. If I were in the habit of swindling money from people, then all of my payment accounts would have been investigated and be completely shut down by now. Necessary background: Dad is as boomer as they come. Totally out of touch, fallen down the misinformation rabbit hole head over heels and now subscribes to every conspiracy theory and fake news story he hears as long as it’s on AM radio or from one of “the good” news channels.
Sadly, my siblings and I have watched him degrade in real time over the last several decades, but when we were kids he was nowhere near as bad.
Examples: - he was never religious, and was openly agnostic, but is now an avowed “Christian” (while subscribing to exactly none of Christ’s teachings in his day to day life)

he was always “socially liberal and fiscally conservative”, voted for Clinton in the 90’s and loved him, hated Dubya and the Iraq War, even voted for Obama the first time. Now he’s full blown MAGA, openly lies about his voting history, is viciously xenophobic, etc.
and lastly, he got into Harleys and going to Sturgis when we were little , and he would always talk about how he wanted to get a tattoo of barbed wire wrapped around each bicep and how cool that would be, but ultimately never pulled the trigger on it.

Fast forward to the summer after I graduate highschool, and I’m preparing to move out and into the dorms. Our agreement through HS was always that if I maintained good grades, and worked a real job after school hours and in the summers, assuming I made it into a college he would pay tuition and books. Not all that uncommon, but still a GREAT deal that I was adamant on taking him up on. I worked at least 30 hour weeks every week from when I was 14 (started at a family friends horse barn working under the table) up to time of the story at 18. I also kept good grades and graduated with a 4.0 AND fifteen credit hours of college credit thanks to my AP classes.
I got into our local college and want to move into the dorms. He insists endlessly that I should skip the dorms, because they don’t “give you the freedom to have the full college experience”, and instead sign up for one of those apartment complexes where they match you with other compatible students off campus, and you pay rent. At his urging I did the latter, and to make it work, he said he’d cover the rent but not the bills since I would be working anyways and could cover those plus my food. Again, damn good deal.
Earlier in my senior year of HS (when I turned 18) I mentioned I wanted to get tattoos. His response was casual but firm: “not while you’re living under my roof. Once you move out that’s one thing, but not under my roof.”
So I moved out, into the apartment, and halfway into my freshman year I decided to get tattoos on each bicep (hmm, I wonder where I got that idea). I went back to his house one evening for dinner and to say hi to my younger siblings and I was excited to show them my arms. He went full blown nuclear.
Screaming, top of his lungs, three inches from my face, spittle flying, going totally fucking ballistic. I told him I had no idea he’d react this way and his response was to excommunicate me from my family. The quote that has stuck with me the longest was “don’t come to Christmas, don’t come to Thanksgiving, i don’t want you in my home, I don’t want you in my family, I don’t have FREAKS in my family”.
His explanation, through all of the bluster and rage, was that he’d “changed his mind on tattoos” since we were kids and that only “trash and druggies” have them, and that “his roof” was extended to my apartment because he was paying the rent after all.
When I went stone faced and didn’t react in kind after his hurtful ultimatum, he got angrier, and the three hour one sided screaming fest ended with him saying “good luck paying for school and that nice new apartment, like I said, I don’t have freaks in my family and I won’t be bankrolling a freak either.”
I left and went home, and after recovering from the shock sold everything I owned on eBay and at pawn shops to make that first rent check, then went to the bank and got predatory student loans because he refused to sign off on my FAFSA application to say I wasn’t a dependent, and because his salary was too high I couldn’t qualify for federal aid.
He thought I’d drop out and fail, instead I stayed in school and got a great degree and worked full time throughout to survive. We didn’t talk for years after his explosion and it STILL comes up in my therapy sessions.

2024.06.05 01:31 ihatemylife1717 My (20F) 1.5 year relationship with my gf (20F) is draining me. What can I do to salvage it based off of the listed problems I am having?

I really need advice here. We have been dating four about a year and a half now. Things were pretty great in the beginning but I have always felt like my needs aren't met. I was head over heels in love for a while so I think I thought a lot of the issues would resolve on their own. I'm at the point now where I'm pretty miserable, we fight almost every day over stupid shit and I smoke or drink every night because the situation has me so confused and sad. I'm going to list a few of the most problematic things in our relationship that are making me question it:

She has a lot of issues. This sounds callous I know, and is probably the worst way to start off but hear me out. My girlfriend has some pretty serious medical issues and trauma, and a lot of severe issues with her identity. I'm not going to go into detail about the medical stuff, but it's something awful that she and her family have been dealing with for years. To be fair, I knew about her medical problems before I started dating her, but I guess I just didn't understand the severity. There is not a day that goes by that she doesn't come to me for support about some of the things affecting her, and no matter what I do or say I feel like I can't help. It has gotten to the point where when we are spending time together I feel that she is always preoccupied with her medical issues, and I can never come to her for support with my own issues. For example, one night I opened up to her about my experience with sexual abuse, and how it has affected my perception of myself, how I can be disgusted by my own body, and she took it as me saying I was disgusted with her (because she often tells me she finds herself to be disgusting, although I reassure she is anything but!) and she didn't comfort me as I cried and ended up leaving my house in the middle of the night because she could not take it. This was incredibly hard for me to experience, as I was being incredibly vulnerable with her and desperately needed her support, but it felt like she was too focused on her body image issues to really hear me and support me. Furthermore, the next day I had to reach out to her and apologize for my behavior yet received no apology back. I don't think I acted perfectly in the situation, but I was so hurt by her seemingly not caring or supporting me that I got upset. She brought up the situation over call the other day and implied that I had hurt her, and it didn't seem like she factored in my feelings at all, or that had disclosed really personal and traumatic information to her. It has left me spinning honestly.
I don't feel like she is interested in my life or what I have to say. When we are talking or spending time together, she doesn't really ask me any questions and I often find her spacing out, or going on her phone. I constantly have to ask if she was listening or heard what I was saying. She never seems engaged with me.
She does not really do anything for me. I have bought her flowers, cooked and brought her dinner, driven her around for the year that she didn't have a car (never asked for gas money), bought her lunch, presents, dinner, breakfast, whatever, because it's one way I show love. And again, I feel like this is something that's going to make me sound like an asshole, but she doesn't do any of that stuff for me. The ONLY time she bought me flowers was after we had a fight. She doesn't cook, she's very frugal with her money, and she hates driving. Recently, I asked her to come pick me up from my house since she wanted to spend time together, and it turned into an argument about how it was inefficient for her to come to my house and pick me up when she would just have to drop me off again in the morning. What's so frustrating is that I had done that for her for a long time, and that I know countless people who drive her around with no complaint. I mean, She lived at my house for a few months when her mom kicked her out, and I drove her everywhere, I even gave her a drawer in my dresser for her clothes, space in my closet, and I bought her a toothbrush. I let her use all my stuff, eat anything she wanted, and I never asked for money in return. Yet when I ask to share some of her food, she always asks me for money, when I ask her to drive somewhere, gas is too expensive or it "doesn't make sense for her to do it". There's many more small situations like that but I won't go into detail, this is too long already.
Sex is not perfect. There's thing she does that I am just straight up not into, but I feel like I can't tell her because she is so insecure. I have brought i tup in the past, and she often shuts down and then keeps information/feelings from me because she's embarrassed. I have tried to assure her that it's normal and okay and that she does not have to be embarrassed but it has not changed over the course of our relationship.
Anytime I open up to her about how all this is affecting me, she shuts down. I have had multiple conversations with her about not feeling appreciated, not feeling valued or loved, and it ends with her crying, and me having to reassure her.
Worst of all, I have developed feelings for another person. Although it's not the first time it has happened, it's incredibly distressing to me right now. I have determined that because of my history of sexual abuse and neglect, I can develop unhealthy crushes on people and become obsessed. It happened in my last relationship towards the end when it all started falling apart and going to shit. I would never act on my feelings and I would never cheat, but it's filling me with despair to feel this way. I look forward to spending time with this crush, I think about him often. He is in a relationship as well and yet I have really fallen for him, My girlfriend does not know and neither does he, I would never tell either of them. I am waiting for it to go away, but it's making my mental state even more fragile.

The above is pretty much the extent of the issues I have been having. I love my girlfriend so much. She is funny, she is intelligent, she is driven, passionate, creative, talented interesting, and beautiful. I don't want to end things with her. Thinking about it brings me to tears, but I am so drained. I am considering going to therapy because I am so confused and distraught at the state of our relationship. Do you think it is salvageable? Is it worth it to stay with her, or am I destroying myself for someone else's sake?
TL,DR:
I don't feel valued in my relationship and I don't feel like I get out what I put in. and I am considering breaking up with my girlfriend. I need advice on if the relationship is salvageable, or if I should just break things off before I leave for college.

Here's an excerpt of the mod's description. I really hope you guys enjoy and that it finds an audience. I'm proud of this one.
"Realistic Fallout" is a collection of dozens of changes to Fallout 4 aiming at increasing the realism while retaining the fun aspect. No changes made here should compromise your enjoyment of the game nor are its features overcomplicated. This mod, however, was unapologetically created for players that value immersion.
What's new in version 2.0?
I've scoured all (ALL) 160 pages of the "immersion" and "gameplay" categories of mods on Nexus to draw inspiration for this mod. My criteria was simplicity and near perfect compatibility. There are no added scripts or new assets in this file, everything was made editing the game's parameters on Creation Kit directly and slotted in a single ".esp" file.
I tried to keep out tweaks that could override other configurations players usually employ. I also avoided edits that could be considered divisive, so most people can enjoy this mod and add new things without worrying too much.
"Realistic Fallout" was made to compliment the mod "Advanced Needs 76" , but can be used without it. Check my mod reccomendations at the bottom of the page.

Additions in version 2.0.

Difficulty Settings:
Player damage dealt to enemies is set to 1x in "Hard" and "Very Hard" difficulties to avoid bullet sponginess. Enemy damage dealt to the player is left like in vanilla across all difficulties. Survival Mode is left entirely vanilla.
Time Scale:
Utilized the popular "6 to 1" time scale (1 minute in real life is 6 minutes in-game, unlike in vanilla where 1 minute in real life is 20 minutes in-game). Fast Travel speed was adjusted to compensate for the slower passage of time.
Healing and Chems:

Unnatended broken limbs will start healing in 2 in-game days, and will be fully healed after 5 in-game days (adjusted for this mod's time scale). Sleeping still heals limbs, however this function can be turned off or set to partial healing if using "Advanced Needs 76".
Stimpaks and Radaway heal overtime (10 seconds for full effect).
One Stimpak only heals up to 25% of a damaged limb's health and the healing process also happens overtime.
Chems that fortify damage only work on melee weapons and fists.

Lockpicking:

The lockpicking sweet spot is reduced to make the minigame more of a challenge. Bobby pins aren't too brittle so the challenge is fair.
Locks won't tell you the level of the lock anymore.

Carry Weight and Power Armor:

Initial carry weight is reduced to 100 and carry weight per strength level is decreased to 5 CR per level. Wear a backpack.
Power Armor has a base bonus of 250 carry weight to compensate for the carry weight debuff. You still can't wear backpacks in power armor, but this won't be an issue since you'll have 100 + 250 + 5x your strength points (between 355 and 400 carry weight). ***

*** NOTE: If you use "Backpacks of the Commonwealth", maybe do not pick the magazine in the Concord Museum which transfers the backpack's weight to the Power Armor, otherwise your carry weight inside Power Armor may become a tad overpowered.

Integrated adjustments from Version 1.0.

Ammo prices:
Ammo prices are increased across the board. I tried applying some logic into it while retaining a balance for gameplay purposes. This is meant for games where ammo is rare and very expensive. Guns have vanilla prices because in the post-apocalypse they would be lying around, but ammo is increasingly scarcer.
I believe I covered all ammo in the game except for the "Contraptions" stuff and whatever Creation Club and the next gen patch might have introduced. These may come later. Contrary to popular belief I never actually finished Fallout 4 so there are tons of things I never witnessed in the game.
Here are some examples of prices per round from the top of my head (the prices CK uses take in consideration a character with charisma 10 if I'm not mistaken. Your actual prices in game will be higher):
.38 = 10 caps 10mm = 20 caps Energy / Cryo = 25 caps Shotgun Shells = 30 caps Rifle Shells = 30 caps Syringer = 20 caps Alien = very expensive (don't recall, probably 300 or 500) Automatics = around 12 or 13 caps (cheaper than most regular rounds) Fusion Cores = 500 caps (yeah...)
Food, Cooking and Farming:

All foods that require heat cost 1 wood on top of the other ingredients;
Purified Water recipe is now 1 dirty water and 1 wood;
All foods that require dirty water now cost purified water instead;
All crops require 1 purified water to be planted;
All sealed, prewar industrialized foods have their rad effects removed (except Nuka Colas);
Removed healing effects from food. Now food is only used for sustenance and for its secondary buffs (note: health will still "increase" when the food has a "fortify health" buff);
Bubblegum gives a temporary +1 charisma buff (sweet breath)
Mystery Bacon and Mystery Jerky now increase hp temporarily according to your cannibal perk level (lvl 1 = 10hp for 1min, lvl 2 = 15hp for 2 mins, lvl 3 = 20 hp for 3 mins).

Generators, Water Production, Decontamination Arch:

All generators, powered water pumps and water purifiers now have "Scrapper" lvl 1 as a base requirement, and more advanced models have "Science" perk requirements. Component requirements have been slightly increased;
The regular water pump still has vanilla costs and doesn't require "Scrapper" lvl 1, so you can help Sturges out easily;
The Decontamination Arch now requires "Science" lvl 2, "Medic" lvl 2, "Scrapper" lvl 2 and the component requirements have been slightly increased.

Intro
Let's start simple. Science is a form of knowledge based on structured thinking. Structured thinking involves the use of mathematical structures. Hence, the fundamental/"heavy" Alpha scientists, which usually build this science (as well as those with strong logic, predominantly discrete one). That's why we have 4 (8) blood types, not 8 billion types. We have 7 colors in the rainbow (not 16,777,216). We have 4 main states of matter, not an infinite number. And so on.
When instead of following the scientific method and then applying structured science individually, science starts being built on "individual approaches" (that is, backwards), it turns into anti-science. An "individual approach" => irreproducibility of results => unverifiability => inherent unscientific nature.
I can't change everyone's opinion on this matter because, psycho-biologically, everyone is different (as stated in socionics), and this thinking may completely contradict a person's worldview. But I can call upon those interested in refined scientific (in the original meaning of this word from Tesla's time) socionics, broad but free from mysticism, as a powerful tool that many people can use in various forms (and will use much more in the future). Tool, which aims to bring clarity to psychological phenomena and enable individuals to make better decisions, especially regarding happiness, fulfillment, relationships.
Community
If Gulenko's school, his Humanitarian School, is considered the "Creative" subtype, then a "Creative-Dominant" (or simply "Dominant") community should emerge. This community would organize the chaos and filter out pseudoscientific thinking, setting higher standards for rationality, science, and intellect without overly regulating.
Such community formula is: Ti + Fe (+ Te). The position is that no single model, especially one not empirically validated, should be the sole limit. There should be two to three competing models, with one proving most effective. At the same time, the community should primarily emphasize rationality - rather than dogmatically following any model, it should filter what makes sense (keeping it) and what doesn't (rejecting it). This means more practical approach, and closer to the continuous one (until more clarity is there), which is essentially an advanced Big Five, the foundation of which was laid by Talanov and his students. This is the most scientific method until we can rely on more objective indicators, for example, individual hormonal balance, genome sequencing, fMRI data, brain structure, and others.
Diagnosing
Here's the framework for diagnostics: if a person is a beginner, they first take any test based on Talanov's work. There are only two such tests (excluding his own questionnaire) - sociotype.xyz and aimtoknow.com/test_beta. These tests are not tied to any particular model. What do the tests show? Imagine a continuous space defined by 15 independent axes (dichotomies) with no clear boundaries between them. Any combination of traits is possible. Diagnosis involves finding the closest reference point (standard sociotype). From the results, you can add more clarity and depth as desired (but already having clear contours) - for example, comparing them at different structural levels, such as markers, small groups, dichotomies, functions, and even images of types - from most fine and concrete to the most abstract, but still within the range of sanity. This "Result"/"Left-spin" approach prevents a newcomer from being overwhelmed by low-quality information, giving them clear outlines that they can further refine as needed.
How to take tests
Next, how to take the tests to avoid nonsense? First, answer all questions based not on wishful thinking but primarily on past objective experience. Another important point is to answer all questions based on your behavior in society, i.e., at a social distance where there is societal "pressure" on you. Even though the tests have become advanced and are likely to show more or less adequate results anyway, answering based on purely close-distance behavior (e.g., at home, or in a private setting with a friend, where anyone's behavior is naturally different) might spoil to some sort the results. Are you capable of exerting forceful pressure and standing out as a leader in a group of about 8 random people? Or is it limited to dominating in League of Legends? Will you be an outgoing extrovert in such a group, or is such behavior limited to a private setting, with the rest filled in by your strong imagination?
How xyz emerged / Background
Next, let's talk about the xyz test. To remind everyone of its background, I once came across socionics, which I saw as having huge potential. However, about 80% of it was outdated low-quality stuff, not far from astrology, with many parts already debunked by various schools. Yet, some people (still) blindly follow it under the argument, "It was better before. Ausra/Jung = true by default."
Then I found a test - aimtoknow. Unlike many others, it wasn't garbage, but it had (still has) many flaws. Firstly, it's over 7 years old (meaning many things have changed) and to some extent is impractical - I found it difficult to ask people to take this test in real life, retake it if there was an error, request them to send PDFs, and individually explain strange translations. Additionally, considering the dichotomy of Central/Peripheral there, which the test defined inaccurately, it confused my understanding of socionics' "Competition" for some time. The first three people I knew well, and myself, were classified as "Central" types, which led me to mistakenly think that "Competition" in socionics was solely about conscientiousness and lawful actions, which of course is far from true. Eventually, all four of us retook new tests (multiple times) and were consistently classified as "Peripheral" types.
I liked the approach and found out that it was built on Talanov's questionnaire. I contacted him, offering my help to modernize socionics - his Excel sheets were more accurate than that site but even more terrible in terms of accessibility, and I wanted to contribute to this field make it as accessible and transparent as the internet today, help to "digitilize" psychology. Perhaps I missed some ethical aspects, but we couldn't establish a connection (it was eventually established, but much later). So, I decided to reverse-engineer his work. This test was initially an open-source repository on GitHub with full access for contributions and viewing the test's internals. Even here on Reddit, we discussed the workings of these tests, and I also shared GitHub links in threads on it. But after hundreds of commits and no assistance, I decided to close the repository and continue solo. Differences of xyz from Talanov's questionnaire (and aimtoknow)
In xyz test, public data from Talanov's research is used to calculate profiles. Differences between the test and the original questionnaire:

Instead of 5 answer options, there's a dynamic scale (slider) with much finer granularity (x10+ more accurate answer representation), which wasn't possible to use in old testing methods (including the Big Five). Some people think this might somehow reduce accuracy, but in reality, it (significantly) increases it. Partly because of this, it allows for good results even with 100 (or even less) questions. Instead of black and white (yes/no), you have a choice among all the colors of the rainbow. However, for those who dislike sliders, regular +/- buttons can be used without any issues.
Questions that do not significantly contribute to the result are removed (primarily via users vote), increasing the effectiveness of each individual question. The test becomes more refined over time.
All questions have been translated by a native with minimal semantic loss.
Recently, all questions are filtered for differentiation quality (green slider), meaning questions answered very uniformly by all 16 sociotypes are filtered out (potentially increasing result accuracy).
No constraints: we can experiment freely, open to any ideas, collect statistics on any questions of interest, etc. Although such frequent iterations annoy many.
Possible drawback: Questions for a particular testing session are chosen randomly, whereas in original questionnaire he selects them according to a particular methodology. However, in my experience, this not affects the outcome much.

LARPing
I strongly discourage these tests for those who engage in LARPing. They are difficult to cheat, and for those who understand these tests, you'll end up looking like a clown trying to fool everyone, thinking you're smarter than everyone else. And want to mention that I have tested hundreds of people using this test in real life, mostly adults, and the results are clear in most cases. This doesn't mean that they always have a clearly defined dominant type, but I can generally understand which type they deviate towards and in which parameters. Unlike some results in typology communities. I won't speculate on why this is, but I'll just state it. But If you genuinely received a poor result, here's what you can do: retest with a bit more questions and answer using only + and - (not slider), without skipping any. If you still get completely random types each time upon retaking the test, then it might not be worth trying this or other tests (or you might want to put it off for a year or two).
Other systems
Regarding other systems like DCNH, Enneagram, Psychosophy, etc.: DCNH is the most favored by me and undoubtedly adds a level to the system that likely reflects a more comprehensive structure of the psyche (+ tandem with the classical socionics framework). However, it also introduces more confusion and speculation into an already chaotic typological community, alienating most of the already small group interested in systematic psychology. Moreover, with a continuous approach, a lot of additional crutches become unnecessary, except maybe for a few nuances, like the distance in DCNH. But is it really important how much a person changes in a private setting, where we hardly see them and where, according to the same Model G, they cannot realize themselves in any way? Also, a big part of such private behavior can be inferred from more public ones (which is why psychoanalytic/romance groups and the like exist). Other typologies like Enneagram and Psychosophy (and MBTI) are interesting and somewhat beneficial for self-knowledge, but they have limits and, most importantly, no future, especially scientifically. Even if Dario Nardi enhances MBTI typing to high objectivity with emerging technologies, it would still be a Frankenstein with precise typing but no further conclusions, as it lacks structure and would have to reinvent socionics.
Community: Continuation - Alpha/Beta vs Gamma/Delta, Outro
Besides Alpha/Beta, who perceive the structural and systematic approach to psychology quite positively, Gamma/Delta might also find this approach relevant. Especially from such a perspective - statistics show that about 90% of people are mistyped. This isn't because they don't follow my ultimate understanding of socionics - but simply that any person you meet in typology community will change their type in a few years, and the probability of that is around 90%. What does this mean? In the moment, they will write you mountains of text explaining why they are right and you are not. And some time later they will change the core from which all their logic was built upon - besides wasting your time (and time is money, dear Gammas and Deltas), you receive in that case primary disinformation, sinking even further into chaos. Lose-lose situation 🚀🤝.
I would be glad if a win-win atmosphere prevailed more here and in the typology community in general. But if it's not possible to influence such an atmosphere there, a separate community also exists, which is quite easy to find on Telegram.

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for showing interest and trusting me enough to share the challenges that you are facing during this difficult journey. Before we dive into answering the questions in regards to the topic of masturbation, let’s dive into a brief history of masturbation, how your brain functions in order to drive a human being to survive and reproduce. What process the brain goes through during the process of masturbation and the difference between an individual that has a healthy desexualized brain engaging in masturbation and an individual that does NOT have a healthy desexualized brain engaging in masturbation. The study found primates (monkeys/apes including humans) masturbated more than other members of the animal kingdom and it is an older practice than previously believed. Our brains are one of the most complex organs in our bodies that scientists and doctors have yet to fully crack open and understand, yet are pretty darn close in today’s day and age. Let’s take a look at how the brain motivates and rewards the behavior and action that leads you to increasing your chances of survival and reproduction. There are two main drivers of ACTION and RESULTS that your brain has control over when it is in a healthy state (no addictions or substances that alter this.)
These drivers of action and results are being represented by two main chemicals in the brain, dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine is a chemical the instills and rewards the ACTION that an individual does in order to increase chances of survival and reproduction. Serotonin is a chemical that instills and rewards the COMPLETION of a task that increases your chances of survival and reproduction (following me so far?)
Now, let’s dive deep into how masturbation affects this process and what happens to your body when you are engaging to such an activity.
What role does masturbation play in regards to your primal reward systems of your brain that drives survival and reproduction?
What did a man have to do thousands of years ago to mate and reproduce an offspring with a woman who had large breasts, hips, butt, and had a pretty face? Well, that man had to BE someone, and in order for the individual to BE someone, they had to WORK on themselves first. For example: That man had to be strong enough in order to outlive and out survive other hunters, warriors, environmental challenges, etc. That man had to become a LEADER of a tribe that created an environment of safety and protection that would place that woman in an environment where she can be vulnerable for 9 months that it takes to go through the pregnancy period that leads to birth and not fucking die. (Does that make sense?)
Understanding that is crucial to understanding how masturbation is involved in that process of your brain. Let’s take a look at what happens when an individual starts masturbating. (Keep reading, we are getting close.)
What happens when a man starts masturbating.
When a man starts masturbating what usually happens beforehand? Beforehand a man usually starts imagining images, scenes, perhaps even the girls that he interacted with or anything/anyone else that they find themselves “aroused” to.
What does that do in the brain? The brain (since it does not have eyes) starts to perceive that the individual is in a place and moment of reproduction with a suitable partner (the one you are imagining). It then starts releasing dopamine in the moment that you are starting to imagine the scenario which then causes you to feel the “euphoric” feeling of stimulating yourself (the action that the dopamine is rewarding, thinking that you are actually with another person.)
Once the ACTION is completed in a way of a “release, orgasm, busting a nut, etc.) your brain now believes that it has “impregnated” that individual that was in your mind and then rewards you with the serotonin chemical which rewards the COMPLETION of the reproductive task.
Now, let’s take a look at how this behavior ties into the individual engaging in the act of masturbating with a HEALTHY desexualized brain, and an individual engaging in the act of masturbating with a brain that is NOT desexualized/healthy.
How does a HEALTHY desexualized brain work in regards to the reward system.
When a man has a healthy desexualized brain, the body builds up sexual tension through the production of testosterone (in the testicles) and dopamine (in the brain). This happens when a man does things that improves himself.
Your brain starts increasing testosterone production and releasing dopamine when you put effort into what is improving you. This includes: physical exercise, good diet, socializing with other human beings, studying, reading, improving your finances, improving your living situation, etc.
When your body is increasing your testosterone and releases dopamine, your sexual drive starts flying through the roof. This causes other individuals to be ATTRACTED to you (whether its women, men, whatever you are into.) You NATURALY start attracting other individuals, you become more confident as a result of seeing other individuals be attracted to you.
What does that lead to? This leads to OTHER individuals RELEASING that sexual tension for you, and the whole process begins again.
Self-Improvement à Confidence à Sexual Tension à Release by other individuals.
Now, what happens if you DON’T get other individuals to release that tension for you. Well, that is where WET DREAMS come into play.
You see, our bodies have a mechanism, and that mechanism is primarily responsible for making sure that your “sack” (testicles) does not go dry. If you are improving yourself and still do not end up with another individual releasing that pressure. Your body will do it for you through a “wet dream”.
What does it mean to experience a “Wet Dream”?
A wet dream is a term that describes your own body releasing the sexual pressure that builds up over time of self-improvement in a healthy desexualized brain when the individual does not attract another human being to do it for them.
This process happens when the individual is sleeping and going through the Rapid Eye Movement stage of sleep (also referred to as REM). This is usually the stage when an individual experiences vivid dreams. What happens during this stage of sleep when that individual has high sexual tension? (I am glad you asked.)
Your brain simulates a sexual experience through the process of dreaming. This is when you might see yourself with another individual engaging in sexual activity which results in what? You guessed it, sexual release.
Now, this release is perfectly natural and results in a HEALTHY amount of dopamine and serotonin production in your brain.
With that out of the way, let’s take a look at how the brain goes through the same process that is NOT in a healthy/desexualized state.
How does the brain work in regards to the reward system when it is NOT in a healthy/desexualized state.
So far you understand that the two main “good feeling” chemicals are dopamine and serotonin. You understand (hopefully by now) that one chemical drives the “good feeling” when you are engaged in the action of doing something, and the other is responsible for making you “feel good” when you are done with that action of doing something. On the other hand, what happens when you are not feeling good, when you feel bad, and have negative thoughts that result in you feeling worse?
Well, that means that your brain is not rewarding you for any action and any results, making you feel depressed, negative, and not good. Why does this happen specifically when an individual is involved in self-stimulation, especially when outside sources such as pornography (even the soft side of it) are involved.
Remember that once you have gone through the ACTION of self “pleasure” and the COMPLETION of that same action, your brain rewards you with a massive amount of these “pleasure” causing chemicals which makes you feel “good”. Yet, most individuals find themselves only feeling “good” and “alert” for perhaps a couple days at a time and then find themselves wanting to experience that feeling again. This is where the deception of the brain begins. Let’s take a look and how your own brain LIES to you
and gets you to go down this path of self-destruction.
How the brain is actually “destroying” you while at the same time making you want to “relieve” these symptoms again and again.
This all happens in the brain over time. Over time of self-stimulation to those outside sources your brain starts to build up “defenses” in forms of enzymes in order to lower the effect of over stimulation and to prevent itself from further possibility of damage. After, years and perhaps decades of the same repetitive behavior, your brain builds up an enormous amount of these “defenses” which eventually stop allowing the receptors (which release and absorb dopamine/serotonin) to absorb the reward chemicals if at all. Causing the individual to not feel any sense of pleasure or motive from any other activity in their life other than masturbation. (Sounds familiar?)
Now, this explains why and individual might consistently try and go back to the same behavior in order to find “relief” for the symptoms that they are experiencing, yet at the same time making it worse the next time the same symptoms start appearing, causing a cyclical repetitive behavior which eventually leads to dependency and addiction. (Makes sense?)
With that out of the way, let’s cover a couple controversial topics that you might have come across that in my experience, I do not agree with and in fact against.
Medical industry claiming that masturbation is “good” for you.
In my personal journey, one the reasons I continued to masturbate and “release” myself was mainly due to the fact that most of the research that I have done claimed that masturbation is a “healthy” habit and that every individual should be engaged in that type of activity to live a “healthy” and “fulfilling” lifestyle. Yet, as we now know, that “sexual buildup” is what is necessary for a man to be driven and motivated in order to improve himself and attract the individuals to either help him “release” or that release happens naturally through the form of a “wet dream.”
When a man decides to “hijack” this process and force himself to orgasm, without knowing that individual now interrupted the process that instills drive and motivation that makes him attract other individuals to do it for him in the first place.
Something that we did not discuss is the fact the on average the male body takes about a week to replenish and reproduce the sperm cells in the testicles in order to be able to “reproduce” again. During this process, a man might experience mild forms of fatigue (or major forms of this fatigue if the brain is not in a HEALTHY desexualized state) and cloudiness in the mind.
This happens because the body has to work really hard and use a lot of vitamins/minerals in order to produce the sperm cells. If an individual “releases” this substance on a recurring occasion, your body becomes absolutely drained of its energy and will in order to continuously produce the sperm cells that your body needs to reproduce.
Think of this process as a manufacturing plant that is behind on its delivery schedule. The management of that factory is pushing everyone to work hard perhaps even overtime in order to catch up to the orders that it is behind on. Same thing your body goes through when a man starts to over stimulate himself to the point of the brain shutting itself and the sexual organs down in order to prevent further over stimulation and damage, while at the same time working “overtime” trying to catch up on the production of sperm cells that take on average a WEEK to produce after just ONE orgasm/release. (Following me so far? We are covering a lot of information, I know.)
I personally believe that this medical field is either undereducated in regards to this process or perhaps the doctors are not being trained in the universities to actually solve this problem, or perhaps (and here we go with the controversies, put your tin foil hat on for this one) they are NOT trying to solve this problem and perhaps MOTIVATING this behavior in order for the individual to start dealing with physical/mental problems and prescribe them very expensive medication (that they charge insurance companies a LOT of money for, and let’s NOT forget it is a billion-dollar industry after all) leading the individual into further dependency into self-stimulation and ON TOP OF THAT now into dependency on these “medications.”
This would clearly explain why we are seeing a RECORD number of adults as well as TEENAGERS who are prescribes anti-psychotic and anti-depressant medication on top of many MANY other drugs in order for them to feel like a human being. It is absolutely disgusting and I will not stand for it. (Hopefully you are with me on this.)
Conclusion
With that said, let’s go over what we have discussed and see if we have answered the questions that you have:

We have gone over a brief history of masturbation and came to the conclusion that THERE is not clear evidence that masturbation is a “normal” part of human life.

Hello Im sure this has been addressed before however I do have likely some diffrent things that could hold me back or help me not really sure most likely hurt though.
So I'm in central illinois not crook county I have zero le experience and what I would consider a minimal criminal background. So for the criminal background I have retail theft (as a minor) and disorderly conduct. I'm very much changed since any of those situations the retail theft resulted in 2 yes probation and 1 month stayed jail sentence as well as some community service. The disorderly conduct resulted with a letter in the mail saying that the state was not going to prosecute but something to the effect that they could still choose to prosecute at a later date within a certain amount of years and that time has since elapsed so I'm not sure how that would show up to law enforcement agencies I would apply to. Since those issues I have had no significant run ins with law enforcement.
So background otherwise is I'm a 26yr old male who has always been the head mechanic where I work. Considering I grew up in an environment filled with drug dealers and all sorts of other unsavory people I do feel as though in application that helps me understand certain situations however my also hurt considering I got minorly involved obviously nothing big 1 misdemeanor and one one that was dropped. I am in the process of joining my local fire department and ems. I have been involved in competitive shooting mainly trap shooting since about 13. I have my ccl and have gone through that required class.
That stuff is about all of the things I thought may be worth a mention some may be worthless info and maybe I'm leaveing important stuff out I would be glad to answer any questions you all have for me if it could help.
Essentially I souposse what I want to know based off of your guys' experience is there any point applying at any agencies with my past? Any positions that would be better or more likely to accept me? Beyond that any advice is greatly appreciated. If this topic has been covered extensively I apologize and understand if it must be removed.

I removed a few questions for time and because I couldn't think of answers.
Tell me about your internal experience of yourself. What makes you, you?
I'm using this spot to first acknowledge I'm medicated for a few different things, and mental health nonsense played a big part in past mistyping/frustration/obsession over type. This is also the hardest one for me to answer for a range of reasons.
I think a lot, I worry a lot, I have a lot of imaginary conversations, I can get lost in my latest "inner universe" for hours. People think I'm nice and I'd like to be, but it doesn't feel valid because most of it is a kind of "peacekeeping", or else trying to feel equal to someone who seems morally superior.
If someone is upset with you, what is the typical reason for it? Give a recent example.
Imo, it's likely because of things I didn't do, or because I flaked on some responsibility or did it half-assed. I try to avoid that; people being upset with me freaks me out and I'm guilty of thinking people are mad at me when they aren't.
What are you like when you're stressed? What are your coping mechanisms? Give an example of a recent stressful situation and how you handled it.
I have a tendency to just avoid things that stress me out. I shut down in a way - distracting myself - and it can look like I don't care even when I do. Lots of self-medicating with food and to a much lesser extent, other substances. Alternatively, depending on the kind of stress, I freak out, panic, cry when I'm alone, and get easily frustrated. For a time I had two main responses to those kinds of feelings: either I want to run around and hug everyone so I can feel better by making others feel better, or I want to fight someone; I know I'll get hurt but that's the point lmao.
What pushes your buttons? What makes you angry? How does your anger manifest? Can you be openly angry with others?
Generally, I'm not a very angry person. I had a period of it many years ago where I had some kind of breakdown and felt like I was having every personal stressor pushed regularly, the end result being lots of screaming, lots of fighting, and some throwing things. I recall one point of being so upset and physically "wound up" that it actually hurt.
Thankfully nowadays I might just get irritated or frustrated, usually at people or things in my way, or at not being listened to. I don't think I could really be openly angry to someone I wasn't close to.
What’s your deepest fear? Why is that your fear?
This is an incredibly embarrassing question with an incredibly stupid answer.
Idk what I would have answered before, but within the last 10y or so, I've found that my greatest fear is learning some "truth" about life, existence and/or the universe that breaks me. Either something that makes it impossible to justify living, or that I can't get away from without completely changing how I think and act to the point where I've completely lost any semblance of what I recognize as "myself" and have to completely reorient myself in every way.
What types of memories cause you the most shame? What feelings cause you the most shame? What is it about them that causes you shame?
I have a massive amount of shame in my thinking; I really do feel like it drives me, but event hen I can say it's not enough, because I'm still a loser. Currently, the memories that cause me the most shame are of some loss of control, from trauma-dumping online to blowing up at family - the latter is thankfully behind me.
But if I'm really honest, comparison causes me the most shame. I am, regularly, disgusted with myself when I compare to others, and it's downright enraging to look at how I've "failed". I pedestalize people regularly, iirc that derives from shame.
What is your relationship with pleasure? What gives you pleasure? Can you have pleasure when you want it, or do you have to earn it?
I know my answer is the wrong one. I know I should see pleasure as something that must be earned, but in practice, when I try to be structured and disciplined, I know who made those rules and standards for myself (it's me), and I know they can't be trusted. I think pleasure I think food first, and then maybe physical comfort/luxury. I like and want those things - I can do without, sure, but I'm willing to work for things I want.
What’s your relationship with authority? Think both abstractly and with specific authorities in your life, possibly your parents, boss, religious leader, doctor, or government figures? Are you an authority?
Historically, I've been pretty deferent to authority by nature. With age I've relaxed a bit, but there's still a bit of unease there. I could never be an authority, I feel bad about telling people what to do.
When your mind wanders, what are you thinking about?
Either things I have to/want to do, the task at hand, or my latest little world in my head (think fictional characters, I wish I was creative so I could put it down even though it's cringe, esp at my age). Discussions or "hashing out" problems or things that caught my attention are also a strong possibility, obsessions notwithstanding.
What’s your biggest flaw?
Never ask that question to someone whose default self-image is "useless sack of crap with no positive qualities". But if I had to be reasonable and narrow it down, selfishness/ self-centeredness.
What makes you special? (Or, if you don't feel special, what at least makes you different from other people?)
I talk weird. I pick up skills quickly (at least at work), and people seem to like me despite my doing nothing to earn it. However if I let some obsession/fixation take over, people think I'm fucking insane (which usually, in the moment, I am).
How much of your mental energy is spent on thinking about each of the past, the present, and the future?
The past and present are on pretty similar footing, I don't think about the future too hard (assuming we aren't counting the near future, like this evening or this weekend. I hear "thinking about the future" I hear "what's your 5y plan?")
You unexpectedly find yourself with a whole weekend with no obligations, and everyone else is busy. How do you feel about it? What do you do?
On some level, I'd probably feel a bit guilty, like I should be doing something "productive" even if it's catching up on chores. In practice I'll likely spend most of the day in front of my laptop, unless there's something in particular I wanted to do/attend.
What’s your personal vibe/style/aesthetic? How cultivated vs natural is it, and how much time do you spend on it? Do you turn it on and off?
I don't think I really have one, especially as right now I just wear whatever because of my weight/health/energy levels. I'd love to have an elegant, polished look with an alt flair; best I can do atm is something "classic" or "basic", whatever makes me look sort of presentable.
I grew up with a weird sort of ethos put on clothing, and have literal complexes about some things. I have posted about them and gotten truly bemused reactions, which is reassuring I guess. Said ethos amounted to your clothes determine your status and worth, the standard is universal through time and everyone can tell. Left to my own devices though, I wish I could cultivate an aesthetic I felt at home in.

Hello!
For three years, I worked as a "solutions engineer" at an AI startup, until the company shut down early this April. I initially applied and was hired on as a "data analyst"; however, I was instead given the title "solutions engineer" early on. The problem is that my job for the past 3 years looks almost nothing like what most people call data analysis, data science, or any other real data or machine learning job.
My job was to work directly with the company's AI framework (which was symbolic and non-statistical) and build specific solutions using it. Examples of projects that were taken on: computer vision, reinforcement learning in basic control environments, and multi-class classifiers on a variety of datasets. I didn't make use of much of my mathematical background, and my job experience had nothing to do with statistical modeling or traditional machine learning.
I've been applying to roles with the following titles:

data analysis

data science

sales engineer

solutions engineer

machine learning engineer (though not anymore)

And I've been open to working anywhere in the US, but with strong preferences for the NY Metro area and California. I'm open to relocating and working remote, and have applied for jobs that cover a broad spectrum of US locations and types. I'm a US citizen, so visa issues have never been a problem.
I've been lucky to have several people help refer me for positions, but I find that:

My lack of data visualization and SQL experience prevents me from getting data analysis interviews

My lack of statistical modeling experience prevents me from getting data science interviews

Jobs are industry specific. My personal connections happen to work in media and advertising. I don't have any experience in that industry and I've been told that this is why I wasn't considered. Data jobs in finance want people with finance industry backgrounds, data jobs in medicine want people with medical industry backgrounds, and so on. This is the biggest hurdle

I don't like the sales-oriented nature of "sales engineering" and "solutions engineering" roles that I find, but even they require industry and specific technical experience that I don't have

My SWE skills are far too weak for machine learning engineering roles, I've stopped applying to those roles altogether

I have never gotten an invitation to interview, so I suspect the problem is the resume. The de-identified version of the resume I've uploaded here is one that a C-suite executive from the AI startup advised me on. I think I need to simplify the language and remove some of the phrases that may come across as marketing jargon. I also think I should increase the level of technical detail in the bullet points. I'm thinking of removing the "Restaurant" experience altogether. I'm finishing up my first personal project, so when that's pushed out and ready, I'll provide a GitHub link and add a "Projects" section.

Dain what have you been looking into all this time?

Dain: I've continued to investigate the questions surrounding the Loom of Fate. It's been quite some time since the initial operation was launched. By retrieving the eye of the first Field Tiller, we were able to stop part of their plan from coming to fruition; However, it's obvious that was just some kind of technical experiment. The eye was integral to their plan, yet somehow, despite failing to obtain it, they've skipped the experimental phase and found some other way to keep moving forward. Our most pressing concern is to determine the purpose of the Loom of Fate. From there, we'll be able to deduce the Abyss Order's true objective. Based on the intel I've gathered so far, I suspect the Loom of Fate is related to the Ley Lines in some way. Traveler, you were able to observe your sibling's memories last time. They're memories; memories that suddenly appeared in my mind after I woke up. I'm certain I've never met this person before. I remember handing him the eye of the first Field Tiller. It appears he possesses the ability to "implant" memories into the minds of others.

Dain: Whatever the Abyss Order is planning, an important truth has been revealed to us this morning. Their goal is still to obtain the eye of the first Field Tiller. I am the only person who knows its location. Perhaps implanting that particular memory was an attempt to interfere with my mind in some way. I don't believe the Abyss Order is capable of altering reality like that just yet; However, considering their single-minded pursuit of the eye, I would say an equal level of caution is in order on our part. We must check whether the eye is still in our possession.

Dain: Just as I suspected; The false memories were a trap. The Abyss Order just wanted to follow us here. Now that they're in the vicinity, we should have a chance to see-- Argh...! Can you feel that? There's been a disturbance in the Ley Lines. It must be the work of the Abyss.

Paimon: Wow, you must be really sensitive to that sort of thing. Paimon doesn't feel it.

Dain: You two, use that mechanism over there and leave this place. The Abyss Order is putting something in motion. If you return to Vimara Village, I suspect you might finally have the opportunity to locate the missing villager. Just think of it as a way to divide and conquer.

MC: Alright. (Dain does have a point. But, something still feels off. What am I missing?)

Dain: I knew going along with your trap would be the only way to meet with you face to face.

Abyss Sibling: You risked your safety and that of the eye. That's quite the gamble, Dainsleif. But I believe that I am the one walking into a trap laid by the Twilight Sword.

Dain: So you came here all on your own? What about those followers of yours?

Abyss Sibling: When the Twilight Sword is prepared for battle, any army I could send would only be marching to their doom. Better that I face you alone. I know you must have a lot to say, but if it's a conversation you want, you'll have to defeat me first.

World-Order Narration

Paimon: We're in someone else's memory, just like how you entered your sibling's memory last time! That would also explain why we seem to be at a time before he went missing, it's a memory, after all. If the missing person is someone who only exists in people's memories, then we're finally on the same turf! But, Bahram just said he saw him leave the village with someone? Where should we go look for him.

MC: Let's go through what we know so far.

We pretty much figured out that the missing villager has the ability to implant memories into the minds of others. Lets try to figure out a bit more about him using what we know of his ability. Does it maybe leave a trace that would somehow give him away?

MC: (Implanting memories into the minds of others must be an imperfect process. There's no way the new memories could perfectly blend in with the old ones. There has to be some kind of tell)

Paimon: All this time, and the sky hasn't changed a bit. That must mean time isn't passing! That's the tell of the fake memories! The implanted memories are basically taking place outside the regular twenty-four hours of the day. If the memories included the regular passage of time, it would be easy for people to tell that something was off. Like, there could be overlap or something. People might start to wonder why they remember doing two different things at the same time of day. That's why he makes sure the memories take place at a specific moment in time, rather than over a period of time.

MC: If we consider this in conjunction with what we already know, then the question of whose memory this is seems to have an obvious answer.

Paimon: This is definitely Atossa's memory!

Atossa: So, you see, Granny Jehiet was a mercenary when she was younger. She just talks like that out of habit. She's not trying to scare the children on purpose, hehe. Oh, there I go again... always talking about my own things. Do you, maybe, have anything you want to share? Um... It's okay if you don't. You could also just Talk about what you think of me?

Caribert: I think you're an incredibly strong and thoughtful young woman. You'll meet many amazing people and live a very happy life. You won't miss someone like me...

Atossa: Are those your friends over there?

MC: We finally found him. But why does he look kind of familiar?

Caribert: Friends? I guess you could say that. It must have taken them a lot of effort to find me. So I should see what they need. I'm sorry, Atossa. We'll have to continue this conversation another time.

Atossa : Another time, yeah! Okay! I'll head back to the village, then. Talk to you some other time!

Caribert : It's nice to see you. I believe this is the first time we've met.

MC: You're Caribert Alberich.

Caribert: You know me? That's quite the surprise. I don't believe I've met you before. Ah, I see. It was the memory, wasn't it? Your sibling's memory. You saw the me from back then. This is Atossa's memory. I came here to say goodbye to her. But, I suppose I'll just leave her a message instead. Let's find somewhere else to talk.

Caribert: In the new world, they bade farewell to the shrouded sun. You see? We're both still here. In the end, he whispered softly.

Paimon: Hey, look at those Hilichurls over there.

MC: They seem strangely calm?

Paimon: Weren't they acting super agitated just a little while ago? Why are they so calm all of a sudden?

MC: What is this place?

Caribert: I suppose you could call it the realm of my consciousness. I'm someone who no longer exists in the real world, after all... as you well know. Ah, it's nothing. I still have enough strength to play the part of a good host. I've always hoped that I'd get the chance to talk to you like this, and now, the time has finally arrived.

What exactly happened to you?

Caribert: Extreme sorrow and pain. Hope and regret coursing through your veins and a degree of Abyssal power that defies comprehension. Father told me that once I possessed all those elements, I would become the Loom of Fate. But, despite his intentions for me, I never truly became the Loom of Fate. I was merely used as a means for its "construction." In truth, I died the moment I set everything in motion. The "person" you see before you now is nothing but a remnant of consciousness leftover within the Loom of Fate.

MC: (Caribert is dead. That's why he no longer exists outside of people's memories.)

What is the Loom of Fate

Caribert: The Loom of Fate is a device capable of weaving Ley Lines. In its primitive form, it can only be used to create and implant memories. But, as more of it is completed, its power becomes stronger and stronger. Until finally, it has the power to weave real Ley Lines of its own. Once fully completed, the moment it gains the power to weave Ley Lines, it loses the lower-level ability to influence memories; but it also becomes a tool that can change the entire world.

MC: That was the source of your ability to implant memories?

Caribert : Yes. I have the ability to control the Loom in its semi-completed form. I suppose you could think of it as a form of compensation. After all, its existence cost me my life.

MC: (So the memories that suddenly appeared in Dain's mind were implanted by Caribert through the half-finished Loom of Fate. I'm still lost as to why he went so far as to "introduce" himself to all the residents of Vimara Village.)

Why did you implant memories of yourself

Caribert: I was wrong to implant those memories. I just wanted them to feel like I once existed in this world. As if I had a chance at life.

MC: (So that's why. I would have never guessed. But is there any kind of meaning to this? Does only existing in people's memories really count as living?)

Caribert: I know what you must be thinking. Why would I do something so meaningless. But I just couldn't accept it. I had to know what it would be like if I had my own life — what kind of person I would be, what other people would think of me. What would it be like if I could live alongside them — no cataclysm, no curse, just a quiet life in a peaceful village. I was curious, so I selfishly tried to have my own life. Even if that meant piecing together the version of myself that could have been, one memory at a time. I know it sounds stupid. After all my life ended a long time ago. Any chance at living was stripped away from me when I was eight years old, my consciousness left to mature in an illusory world of nothingness. Even the form you see before you is nothing but an invention based on my father's appearance — an imagined version of what I would look like if I had had the chance to grow up.

MC: You know everyone is looking for you.

Caribert: I know but, there's nothin I can do to make them find me. If I could exist in the real world, I would return without a second thought and surprise them with the suddenness of it all. But that's not possible for me.

MC: As I understand it, even though you only appeared in their memories, they all believe you once lived among them. Well, now that I've found you, let's continue this conversation some other time. Dain might still need my help.

Caribert: Captain Dainsleif, Twilight Sword? No need to meet up with him. Things should already be settled on his end. As someone who could only exist in people's memories, the fact that I'm able to talk to you in my consciousness like this can only mean one thing; The Loom of Fate has already been completed.

Caribert: No need to worry about Captain Dainsleif. The only reason he lost the eye was because I happened to guess exactly what he was planning. Captain Dainsleif has had the eye inside his body this whole time. His plan was to lure the Abyss Order to a false location, capitalizing on their pursuit of the eye in order to have the chance to confront Abyss Sibling. He would then hand the eye to you, and tell you to take it away from that location. That way, Captain Dainsleif could accomplish his own goal and ensure the safety of the eye all at once — a very thorough plan.

MC: But Dain never handed me the eye

Caribert: That's right. Because, in his mind, he had given it to you already. Before you two entered that false location. That was when I implanted the memory of him handing you the eye.

MC: (So when Dain froze up back then, it was because a false memory was being implanted in his mind)

Caribert: Given the tense situation at that time, Captain Dainsleif failed to notice anything out of the ordinary and took that memory to be real. I'm sorry, but I needed the Loom of Fate to be completed, and to do that, we had to retrieve the eye.

MC: (So, Dain had the eye this whole time until the Abyss Order took it away. I'm not sure there's anything we could have done.)

Now that the Loom of Fate is complete what are you planning to do with it?

Caribert: I promise I'm not trying to conceal anything from you; I truly have no idea what the Abyss Sibling is planning. Teyvat's Ley Line system is deeply entrenched in the planet**. Creating new Ley Lines can neither "replace" nor "extend" the ones that already exist.** In any case, I had my own use for the Loom of Fate, and my goal has been achieved. After my father, Clothar Albierch, used the power of the Abyss to restore consciousness to my Hilichurl form, I suffered from an indescribable level of mental anguish. To comfort me, my father told me a story. That this was a fairytale world, where I had to take on the form of a little monster. That story managed to dispel my fears even if just for a moment. My goal was simple — to use the Loom of Fate in its near-completed form, when its ability to create memories was at its strongest to implant a specific memory into the minds of the Hilichurls. In that memory, I would tell them a story, just like my father did for me. It was a story of fairy tales and love. But, more than anything, it was the story of us.

MC: (So the thing that caused the Hilichurls to calm down back then was Caribert's story. That was the only thing he wanted. He had a device as powerful as the Loom of Fate at his disposal, and all he wanted to do with it was to offer the Hilichurls a moment of comfort and peace.)

Caribert: I can't change the world, not when I lost the very right to exist within it. Implanting those memories, that was the most worthwhile thing I could offer. All that's left of my existence is a wisp of residual consciousness tied to the Loom of Fate. In truth, that trace of my consciousness should have dissipated long ago. My goal was the one thing that allowed me to hold on all this time. But now, the bedtime story is finished, and it's finally time to rest.

Well how about a conversation? The chance to just stop and talk like this is certainly not easy to come by, wouldn't you agree?

MC: I almost can't believe it's real.

That battle earlier was tough. The one against Dain, I mean. I didn't expect that after everything, he would still hesitate to raise his sword against me. Were it not for that, perhaps I'd still be no match for the Twilight Sword. Even after five hundred years.

MC: What exactly are you planning? What are you going to do with the Loom of Fate?

The Loom of Fate, huh, I still haven't found a way to utilize it to its full potential, but there's still time before the Heavenly Principles "awaken." For five hundred years now, ever since the cataclysm in Khaenri'ah, the Heavenly Principles has been asleep. There's been no sign of activity. Not long ago, you witnessed the Hydro Archon destroy her divine throne. Such a flagrant disregard for the "rules," and still Celestia took no action. I suppose that's proof enough of the Heavenly Principles' situation. However, the Heavenly Principles will awaken. We just don't know when that will be, or what might trigger it.

MC: You really hate the Heavenly Principles, don't you?

You could say that. Just look at Caribert. He was so pure and single-minded. The space we now find ourselves is a perfect representation of who he was — quiet and peaceful. Even as a Hilichurl, seeing the terrible sight within the mirror wasn't enough to taint his spirit. He brought comfort to the people of this world... even though he was denied the very right to be a part of it. Ask yourself this; Who was it that deprived him of that right to exist? Of course, that's only one example. My feelings about the Heavenly Principles are too complicated to explain in just a few words.

MC: There's so much I wanted to ask you, but for some reason, I'm not interested in asking those questions right now. 🙃 There's just one thing I have to ask, one thing I could never understand. Why can't we continue our journey together?

At the end of my journey, I arrived at a place known as "The Sea of Flowers at the End." Do you remember? A long time ago, when we traveled between worlds together. You told me you wanted to find a place in the universe where that one flower was in full bloom. To have a place like that suddenly appear before me. Well, would you think of that as a coincidence?

MC: You mean...

I miss you. But as this war continues to rage, and as I continue to seek that final answer. I don't even know how to face myself sometimes, let alone my own sibling.

MC: What's going on?

This space has lost its tether. I doubt it'll be able to exist much longer. In fact, aside from our inability to physically interact with each other, there's something else you should know about this space. With Caribert gone, we won't be able to remember anything that happened here. Everything in this space will be wiped from existence including all memory of our reunion.

Paimon: Paimon woke up a little earlier than you, so Paimon will fill you in. The villagers said they saw us sleeping near the village yesterday. They couldn't wake us up no matter how hard they tried, so they decided to just bring us back here. Oh, and Dain came by just now. It looked like he was injured. He just made sure that you were alright and left.

Paimon: We were in that memory, and we saw that guy you called Caribert. He was the missing villager we'd been trying to find, right? And after that Paimon doesn't remember what happened.

MC: Caribert and I talked for a while. He told me about the Loom of Fate. After that, I can't seem to remember. (Maybe I'm just tired? I feel like something else happened, but why can't I remember? I'm not sure why but, it almost feels like I lost something)

Bahram: The village organized another search party yesterday. It didn't feel right to leave all the searching to the adventurers. Suddenly this one guy said it all came back to him. According to him, one day he was passing by this one tree outside the village, and saw our missing villager. His parents came a little later and they all left together. After that, we all started to feel like that really is what happened.

MC: (So, that's how Caribert said his goodbyes. That was the last memory he gave them.)

Bahram: Oh, and we also remembered his name — Caribert. Now, that's not a name you hear everyday. Would've been helpful if we remembered it sooner.

MC: Caribert is gone. The Loom of Fate is now complete and no one else will try to change the villagers' memories.

Paimon: Paimon wonders how Atossa's doing. Maybe we should go check on her? If she hasn't "remembered" like everyone else, we can tell her what happened. Hey, Atossa! How's it going?

Atossa: I was part of the search party, so I remember what happened to Caribert now. I just can't believe I forgot something so important.

MC: Maybe he wanted you to forget him. I'm sure he wouldn't want you to forget him.

Atossa: He always seemed to appear out of nowhere, and now he left just as quickly. If Caribert wants me to forget about the time we spent together, then I'm willing to try. I relied on him for a lot of things. But, I'm sure with enough time, even the deepest of attachments can fade.

2024.06.05 00:28 ThrowRAsnickerdoodle I can’t cover the mistakes of my child’s father anymore - I feel guilty

(Trigger warning: suicide attempt)
I used to cover for the father of my child a lot. By that I mean:
When they would fight I would try and bring the peace by advocating for each others points of view. When he would say something stupid I would try and spin it to my daughter so that it sounded less stupid. When we were “fighting” and he would get aggressive with his words and his tone of voice I would pretend it was nothing bad and it didn’t affect me. If he slammed the door shut leaving after an argument I would say it was the wind and so forth.
I managed to do this solidly for at least 10 to 11 years and then we divorced and then at some point it became clear I just couldn’t do it anymore. Not that I didn’t want to anymore but just that it became unmanageable.
Also: The things he says and does are damaging to my child and I started to feel that if I didn’t start acknowledging that she was indeed right in having strong opinions about his actions and opinions - I would basically be gaslighting her and I don’t know what good could have come from that. But I also don’t know what good can come from what’s currently happening.
Sometimes his actions and opinions are so ridiculous and hurtful and not well thought through we both are so angry with him. I don’t show all of my anger to her but I’m not pretending it’s all ok anymore either. Sometimes it’s so ridiculous that we both have to laugh so hard. I try not to be overly sarcastic but I can’t pretend to respect a man like that either anymore.
So I feel guilty about that. That’s question number 1: does anyone have a take on that or experience with that?
Question nr 2 is that I genuinely sometimes doubt my own judgement when it comes to him. Maybe I’m overreacting, maybe I should me more understanding? But can somebody please tell me if the following is as bad as I think it is:
Just a few examples throughout the years (and only the ones that my child was either witnessing or involved in in some way, there are more examples but that’s not relevant to the question at hand):

he would hit me like you hit a child on the bum if he was irritated with me - not in a joking way but out of anger and frustration. My child has seen this at least once when she was 9. I don’t know if she remembers that.

she needs a jaw operation. I’ve seen two jaw surgeons and two orthodontists for a second opinion but he doesn’t trust their judgement and he opposes the operation. He told her so himself.

she had trouble focussing at school, frequently being overwhelmed by external stimuli, being afraid of failing and procrastinating at the same time. I organized a screening for possible adhd after consulting with him but once he figured out how much it would cost he changed his mind and said he never agreed.

financially he is supposed to contribute to her expenses and he keeps promising but he always comes back on those promises - and he will use “excuses” like “I don’t trust you”, “we never agreed on this”, “I don’t think she needs an operation etc”. I don’t advertise this to her because I know she equates money to interest in her / love for her / investment in her, but Last time she accidentally read a portion of a mail from him to me where he said as much and she is nót happy with him regarding this. She also knows I can’t pay for everything myself.

I announced to my child I had a new partner after a year of dating (just to make sure before I would tell her) and I let her father know when I would announce it to our daughter (so he could help answer questions etc). He then decided to announce to her that hé also had a new partner that he met only about two months prior, immediately in the same week as I did AT THE SAME TIME MENTIONING MARRIAGE, living together and her getting a new dog. Needless to say none of that happened.

our child ended up in intensive care for a week after a failed suicide attempt. My main and only aim after that has been to ensure everything was peaceful, quiet, uneventful, zen, and no unnecessarily rocking the boat in any shape or form. Three weeks after her release from intensive care her father announced to her and introduced her to a new girlfriend that he (again) only met a few weeks prior.

in that same year he promised he would take her on holiday to her country of birth twice. Twice he came back on his word. Once to take his girlfriend instead of our daughter and once to go by himself.

he never reads a newsletter from school so he never knows what’s going on, and he blames me for not informing him. She knows this and ridicules him for it.

There are many more examples but I’ll stop here.
I guess to summarize here are my questions:

Am I right in feeling guilty for not being able to cover for him anymore? Is the alternative not even worse than that?

Is the situation indeed as bad as i think it is? I seem to be the only one thinking this is very bad.

what can I do? I feel so alone in raising her in this way.

Sometime ago I did something embarrassing at work by slipping up in my professional and descending into an emotional rant about the largest my grievances with the institution of procreation: how forgiving the world at large is to the moral failing of parents in raising their offspring and, conversely, how harsh society is to those children when they turn 18.
I haven't been able to let it to. I stew on it. It's stupid so I'm trying to develop this thought more fully. When the person I engaged in an emotional discussion with said "leave it to people who actually have kids to talk about what is the proper way to raise children" I felt defeated but I know they're wrong.
First of all, childless people can have some say over what methods of child rearing might be beneficial or harmful to children in certain ways...based on their own memory of childhood, how it has affected their mental health in adulthood, AND just based on common facts and knowledge...like...for example..the most damaging child-rearing mistakes have probably been codified as reasons that can be cited to legally remove a child from their parents, and one need not be a parent to recognize some of these. But it's actually the smaller things that don't pose immediate threat to a child's life that I want to focus on today. Because it kills me in retrospect seeing some of the problems with the way I was raised that I STRONGLY believe led to some of the things I struggle WITH EVERY DAY. And my husband has a lot of issues that I strongly attribute to parental neglect in his childhood. But his parents will NEVER feel responsible even though they totally are. No, some girl he met randomly happens to love him more than his own parents. Because I actually try to get him medical help for issues they never took seriously. Issues that grew out of hand and couldve been so much easier if dealt with in his youth. But because society is more lax on parents than they are on prospective pet adopters, we have this shit. but parents are always the heroes.
I have another issue with the view that childless people are completely unqualified. This is an admission that parents are just winging it, if nothing anout child rearing can be knownn in advance without prior experience. sically the first child is just an experiment to them and they have "faith" that everything will fall into place.
It's as if adults are treated like they have 100% libertarian freewill and agency over all of their life outcomes once they turn 18, but somehow their parent's decision to procreate was completely something that just HAPPENED to them. A kid just HAPPENED to them; they had no role in the causal chain of events that led to a child being born (which I assume wasn't coerced and they had an option of family planning. Otherwise this does not apply. But in a lot of "1st will countries," i think im right.)
I swear, if the evolutionary bias toward procreation and the emotions/instincts that it instills in people were removed from the equation, or maybe even if people just acknowledged them for what they are/it for what it is, the bar would be raised when it comes to parental accountability.
The icing on the cake is that the public school system seems to do the majority of work of raising and child and stimulating their mind, more than parents even do . And as shitty as I feel the public school system is, by working against human nature and conditioning us for slavery, at least it's better than being left to our parents' devices. Imagine how bad off we'd be without public school. Proof of just how shitty parents are. I've found most parents can't be bothered to sit down and patiently explain life skills to children, let alone something intellectual like algebra.
And it kills me because the people who most staunchly seem to defend parents are the ones who were mistreated by their parents, forced to get a job as a teenager and give the money to their parents. It's like this whole lifestyle has led them to believe that any emotional abuse they received wasn't "real abuse" and anyone who doesn't suck it up is just ungrateful. Ah yes, let us all be grateful someone created a life to fill their own needs but luckily the period of responsibility was limited!

2024.06.05 00:13 ThrowRAohra Why did my student loan decrease in the same year, and increase in the next?

These aren't exact numbers but ballparks. Basically, the first letter I received, to summarise the year 23/24, said I would get 6k. What was actually paid into my account was maybe 2k less than that. They sent another letter saying that this is what they would pay me on what dates, and I marked that as correct. So about 4k has been received. They also sent me a letter saying they overpaid me by about £450.
My parents are going batty about how they've stiffed me 2k, but I'm like, I don't think they'll go back on their word and send me more? I'm sure they haven't made a mistake here, but I admit, I don't really understand it.
We're sort of wondering, why did it go down so severely? Why didn't I get paid the full amount they said they'd pay me? What's the reason?
I'm thinking maybe it's because I had a medical emergency just before the Easter term, and I was temporarily withdrawn as a student from my university entirely, but I don't know if the school would inform SFNI in that case.
My parents are very low income, like minimum income, and that didn't change from this year and the last. They were like, hey. Our income didn't change that drastically. So, if I actually wound up receiving 4k my first year of uni, why am I getting (according to the letter) 6k this year again?
I told my parents they were crazy, there's no way they'll pay me more even if there was a mistake, the max amount of maintenance loan is like £5250 (although I admit I'm eligible for DSA as well, I applied last year, but I didn't apply this year as I haven't the spoons. I got my associates degree in applied science in medical assisting and I am certified via the AAMA. I also have a certification for Medical Office Administration. I was a CNA and QMA in my twenties. I also took classes to be a medical transcriptionist. I graduate from Ivy Tech with high honors. After I finished my externship I needed my gallbladder removed but since I had a kidney transplant in 2019 I had to have my surgery at the same hospital as my transplant. I had to jump through hoops for my insurance to allow it and before I knew it 2 years have passed since I took my boards. I have been on so many interviews but no job. I have been told they are impressed with my resume, experience, and knowledge but never received a job offer. I need a job and I have applied to everything part time and full time. I also have applied for MA, front desk, medical receptionist, and patient representative. I keep getting those lovely emails saying they went with someone else. I have even emailed back asking for some feed back on why I didn't get the job with no response or they don't know. I also email a week after an interview to let them know I am still interested in the job. When I am at the interview I always have a copy of my resume to give them along with my references. What am I doing wrong? I just want to use my degree and get back into the medical field! I am about to give up and just get 2 or 3 non medical jobs.
