I recently bought a new used Mazda Cx-5. The previous owners were smokers. It wasn’t obvious the first few days, but now the smell seems to be seeping from the cars pours.
Any advice how to get rid of the smell? After driving in it for ten minutes I was told I reek of cigarettes.
I have had it detailed, tried baking soda and then vacuuming it up, cleaning the seats with leather cleanedeodorizer, air fresheners. I’m out of ideas and I don’t want to smell!

Has anyone on here dealt with a interior rattle coming from the passenger side? For my AUDM model it is on the left, for you guys in the US it would be the drivers side.
I cannot pin point what the hell it actually is, and it's driving me mad and borderline on the verge of listing the car up (a bit dramatic, but seriously). It's the only noticeable rattle in the car too, the rest is very solid for the mileage (300,000km's / 190,000 miles). It's not really noticeable over uneven roads, but more so harsh bumps etc.
So far I've had the door card off at least 4-5 times now trying to investigate. I initially thought it was that secret undertray underneath the passenger seat. That thing is really loose fitting tbh, but even when I took it out and drove..the rattle still persisted. I also thought it was the glove box tray (the removal storage piece) and took that out and it still persisted.
What I've found is -
- Aftermarket tint has peeled in the corner near the bottom of the pillar / side mirror base. This tint became quite brittle over time and would make a harsh sound if touched. I cut that small portion of peeling tint to no avail.
- Pillar tweeter cover (yes I have tweeters in that grey pillar section). I've noticed the surround has a crack. They are Focal tweeters and I'm unsure on replacements for these, I would have to contact the shop that installed them. Will try to take off the cracked surround and place anti-static tape underneath.
- Inside of the door card underneath that tan colour tape stuff with the black silicone seal, forgot the name of it? Well those wires under that seal sort of make a ruckus when pushed, I do wonder if these are the culprit.

coming home from our baby moon at 29 weeks pregnant and this whole evening, particularly the first interaction had really upset me and i couldn’t stop crying. i know, i know - its prob because im hormonal.
i was on the aisle seat for a 9:45pm flight and i go to lean my chair back and the people behind me start shoving and pushing it back, jerking me and my belly into my tray table that is very close to me because the woman in front of me has her chair all the way leaned back. i can hear commotion behind me so i turn around and the woman in the middle starts furiously yelling at me “you can’t lean your chair back, my husband is tall and it’s hurting his legs” and i said ok well i would like to lean my chair back so how can he arrange his legs in a way where i can lean it back? she just kept saying no, no, no you can’t. her husband finally chimes in and says you can lean it back but only a little. i’m like what the fuck. in my 36 years of life i’ve never had to ask permission to lean my chair back. looking back, i wish i had defended myself, told them to stop being so aggressive and warned them I was pregnant and they were on the verge of hurting me but i was taken aback by their behavior and more concerned with trying to compromise and find a way so i could lean my chair back. finally when we land, i can hear the two of them behind talking about me and the whole interaction as if im not sitting right in front of them. i wanted so badly to confront them, ask what their problem was and inform them that shoving a pregnant woman multiple times is not only rude but unsafe. i don’t think they knew i was pregnant until we got off but that’s not the point - they shouldn’t treat anyone like that. i was so angry and upset at their behavior towards me.
then when we get on the shuttle to be taken to our car, it’s absolutely packed. we barely fit on it but it’s 1am and we don’t want to wait for another as we had already waited 20 min for this one. not a single person offers to help me or my husband with fitting our luggage in some empty areas - nor does anyone offer to let me sit in their chair or move the fuck out of the way to allow me to find an empty seat. ironically, the same asshole couple that was behind me was also on that shuttle and the man tried to roll my suitcase but only because “it’s crushing a guys leg” (not true). I so wish in that moment I had said “oh right you care about peoples legs but not pregnant women’s bodies - GOT IT”. Could’ve would’ve should’ve.
america fucking sucks and this just reemphasizes the notion that the world hates women, especially pregnant ones.

I'm currently 36 weeks and paranoid about making a huge mess when/if my water breaks. We just got a new bed and I don't really want to ruin the mattress (yes there's a waterproof cover on it) or a car seat etc. I've seen posts about puppy pee pee pads or using towels or sham-wow cloths. What have you used? What really works??

- It looks like buying pressure is stronger than selling pressure today, but depends on the data ultimately.
- Market is above 5300 right now, but we need to see market push above 5325. With VIX wall now removed at 13 as it expired yesterday, it is possible we can see that. VIX is already below 13 right now in premarket. Euro stocks are higher, which is a good sign for buy pressure in US.
- On downside, bulls ideally want to see 5260 hold. Break below, coupled with increase in VIX will probably keep us lower. If there is no big spike in VIX, then we probably bounce higher with vol selling later in the day again.
- Continued caution required as with VOl already below 13,its possible there snot much more room on downside to go and we can see some mean reversion which can cause equities to correct going forward. But right now buying pressure looks there.
- As mentioned in other post, I have feeling that traders want to basically see hourly earnings cool. Lower wage growth will confirm that the weakness in labour market is filtering through to service prices.
- If we do see this, that average hourly earnigns is down, with unemployment rate in line or above, then we can see big push of those calling pullback. Let's see
- Will update this is ADP data sends market a different way.
- AUSTRALIA GDP growth: 1.1% vs 1.2% expected YOY. Lowest YOY rate in the last year. So declining growth numbers in Australia, but not much worse than expected.
- China Services PMI (initial reding) comes 54 vs 52.6 expected. Strongest services numbers since July.
- Composite PMI was highest in the last year.
- So PMI numbers in China looking positive.
- Australia - Services PMI final revision comes slightly softer than expected, at 52.5 vs 53 forecast but no big surprise.
- JPN - Services PMI final revision comes 53.8 vs 53.6. Improvement on expectation, but more or less confirms that services are in expansion.
- Spain, Italy, France, Germany, no major surprises with the PMI revisions.
- Spain, Italy, German, Eurozone, UK services still in expansion, France is slightly contractionary.
- Composite readings for Spain, Italy, Germany, Eurozone and UK in expansion.
- EUROZONE PPI:
- Came -5.7% YOY, bigger reliance than expected.
- MOM fell -1% vs 0.5% expected.
- So PPI continues to drop, less negative than previous YOY readings, but still a sign that CPI should continue lower. So overall positive reading for ECB.
- ADP private payroll numbers
- US ISM services to come. That’s the key one.
- US mortgage applications fall 5.2% WOW, last week fell 5.7% WOW. So falls for 2nd straight week.
- SPX: was quite range bound yesterday, until Vix crush that brought us to 5291 late in the day. In premarket was flat around the 5300 level, has just broken above is now at 5307.
- NAsdaq: Back at 18,750. Closed yesterday at 18,650. Moved 100 points higher in premarket, as NVDA, Meta and CRWD all higher.
- DJI: Back at 38,800. Did dip yesterday to 38,400 but moved higher to close higher, and then has continued higher in premarket today.
- Ger40: Trading at 18,600. Bounced off 18,400 yesterday. Now is higher again to 18,600.
- UK100: 8261, looks range bound between 8200-8300.
- HKG50: at 18400 - jumped up earlier in the session after Caixin PMI, moved up to 18,800 before losing all the gains and is now lower on the day.
- VIX - 12.91. wall at 13 expired yesterday.
- Yen lower again. Most other currencies are flat.
- EURUSD slightly lower to 1.086 after rejection of 1.09 yesterday
- GBPUSD Flat at 1.277 after rejection of 1.28
- AUDUSD was higher at first as china market pumped on Caixin PMI numbers, but has lost those gains and is flat now.
- USDJPY pushed higher to 156 again.

- Server Revenue was up 18% YOY. This is their big segment, and it was flying. So v positive.

- ECB’s Kazmir: I believe ECB is nearing the first interest rate cut. Cut is definitely penciled in for June. Nothing new here.
- Israel’s PM says they re prepared for very storng action in the North.
- Fitch lowers 2024 China new home sales forecasts.
- RBA’s Bullock says that easing will come only when they are convinced that CPI returns to target. Siad there are high economic costs of high inflation.
- Said their energy rebate is insignificant for CPI forecasts.
- Said monetary policy is restrictive
- The hawkish comment was that they will not hesitate to hike rates if inflation remains high. But balanced that by saying that they will ease if economy weakened further. Concluded by saying they will remain data driven.

HPE - extremely bullish commentary.

ANALYSIS:
- It looks like buying pressure is stronger than selling pressure today, but depends on the data ultimately.
- Market is above 5300 right now, but we need to see market push above 5325. With VIX wall now removed at 13 as it expired yesterday, it is possible we can see that. VIX is already below 13 right now in premarket. Euro stocks are higher, which is a good sign for buy pressure in US.
- On downside, bulls ideally want to see 5260 hold. Break below, coupled with increase in VIX will probably keep us lower. If there is no big spike in VIX, then we probably bounce higher with vol selling later in the day again.
- Continued caution required as with VOl already below 13,its possible there snot much more room on downside to go and we can see some mean reversion which can cause equities to correct going forward. But right now buying pressure looks there.
- As mentioned in other post, I have feeling that traders want to basically see hourly earnings cool. Lower wage growth will confirm that the weakness in labour market is filtering through to service prices.
- If we do see this, that average hourly earnigns is down, with unemployment rate in line or above, then we can see big push of those calling pullback. Let's see
- Will update this is ADP data sends market a different way.
- AUSTRALIA GDP growth: 1.1% vs 1.2% expected YOY. Lowest YOY rate in the last year. So declining growth numbers in Australia, but not much worse than expected.
- China Services PMI (initial reding) comes 54 vs 52.6 expected. Strongest services numbers since July.
- Composite PMI was highest in the last year.
- So PMI numbers in China looking positive.
- Australia - Services PMI final revision comes slightly softer than expected, at 52.5 vs 53 forecast but no big surprise.
- JPN - Services PMI final revision comes 53.8 vs 53.6. Improvement on expectation, but more or less confirms that services are in expansion.
- Spain, Italy, France, Germany, no major surprises with the PMI revisions.
- Spain, Italy, German, Eurozone, UK services still in expansion, France is slightly contractionary.
- Composite readings for Spain, Italy, Germany, Eurozone and UK in expansion.
- EUROZONE PPI:
- Came -5.7% YOY, bigger reliance than expected.
- MOM fell -1% vs 0.5% expected.
- So PPI continues to drop, less negative than previous YOY readings, but still a sign that CPI should continue lower. So overall positive reading for ECB.
- ADP private payroll numbers
- US ISM services to come. That’s the key one.
- US mortgage applications fall 5.2% WOW, last week fell 5.7% WOW. So falls for 2nd straight week.
- SPX: was quite range bound yesterday, until Vix crush that brought us to 5291 late in the day. In premarket was flat around the 5300 level, has just broken above is now at 5307.
- NAsdaq: Back at 18,750. Closed yesterday at 18,650. Moved 100 points higher in premarket, as NVDA, Meta and CRWD all higher.
- DJI: Back at 38,800. Did dip yesterday to 38,400 but moved higher to close higher, and then has continued higher in premarket today.
- Ger40: Trading at 18,600. Bounced off 18,400 yesterday. Now is higher again to 18,600.
- UK100: 8261, looks range bound between 8200-8300.
- HKG50: at 18400 - jumped up earlier in the session after Caixin PMI, moved up to 18,800 before losing all the gains and is now lower on the day.
- VIX - 12.91. wall at 13 expired yesterday.
- Yen lower again. Most other currencies are flat.
- EURUSD slightly lower to 1.086 after rejection of 1.09 yesterday
- GBPUSD Flat at 1.277 after rejection of 1.28
- AUDUSD was higher at first as china market pumped on Caixin PMI numbers, but has lost those gains and is flat now.
- USDJPY pushed higher to 156 again.

I need some advice!
A dear friend of mine and I always carpool with our babies. I always drive because I like driving and I am confident in my driving skills.
Yesterday, my 5 month old was crying while she was loading up her Doona in my car. I had never looked at her baby in the car seat before but I shuddered when I saw her baby in it.
The straps were so loose that one of them was literally hanging off of the shoulder. Not only that, but when she installed the car seat without the base, it was at a really unsafe angle- her baby was leaning down. As I went to grab the other side of the seat belt, I gently adjusted the angle & said “that looks a little more comfortable for her!”
I have always been huge on car safety, but I couldn’t think of anything to say in that moment. I am questioning whether or not she doesn’t know or maybe she just doesn’t care? Her baby typically cries in the car, which doesn’t bother me in the slightest, but I keep wondering if that’s why.. I don’t want to overstep.

Our one (and only!!) child starts school in September and I just know that relying on public transport to get there will be stressful. It's a 10-15 min ride on a bike, so I am thinking this will be a much more straightforward and time-efficient option. It would also be useful for going to the shops (currently rely on buses - we do drive and have a car but we're in London and parking is always tricky, everywhere)
The ELOPS is slightly cheaper when you consider all the the accessories that I'd need for the Mycle - the caboose, running boards and front basket are included for the ELOPs. Also, does anyone know what kids storm shelter is compatible with the ELOPs? The Mycle has one for purchase (for £260!!). The reviews on Decathalon for the ELOPs are putting me off though...
I guess my ideal set up would be kids seat on the back, with some kind of pannier / storage, plus basket on the front. We would have 3 steps to drag the bike in and out of the house (no garage).
We are open to other bikes if you think those would be better. We could technically afford a Tern, but since I would be the only one using the bike, and only for 4 out of 10 pick-up / drop offs per week, a Tern seems to be a rather expensive option (i would be open to it if we were definitely going to use it every day)
Another question - how old are kids big enough to ride in the caboose without a hard moulded seat? Kid will be 4 and is *huge*, already over or right next to the weight limit for the moulded seats that I've seen, but she's easily worried by stuff and I'm sure would be happier strapped in somehow and not just hanging on. Hello, I have been a fan for not too long but watched a lot of old stuff. Tons to say, but not the place. I was writing a post on suggestions and then stopped for a few reasons. One is an indirect account of something that happened at a company, a family member of mine knows the story but I am unsure, which parts are allowed to be shared. Two or three might simply not fit that well and aren’t easily verified, I guess, as they are family stories. So I will give a quick summary of the cases and be glad to add details if they seem interesting, or otherwise my question would be, is there a better place to pitch them shortly. I do not want to break the rules, but I hope I outlined, why I am summarising more and not going into detail too much.
The company story is about an old couple on vacation in Brazil. When they wanted to fly back, they were late and their seat was given to a man that had no visa, because it was forgotten to get him one because his colleagues didn’t need one. The plane crashed. The old couple changed their planned route because of the shock of the plane crash and got a rented car in another country and drove. They ended up in a car crash. A bit Final Destination style.
My grandfather went through a bit of a Final Destination story himself. He moved into an apartment that was a newly build bulding, so all the families moved in together. All the families lost their father’s in a relatively short time. Three of them were beheaded at the same time (drove drunk hnder a truck, not that mysterious), but my gandfather also had two or three major heart attack stories. One in a field in the middle of nowhere with no signal where a farmer had to be flagged down and jump on his tractor to get service to get help. Another he had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. My aunt was working as a nurse in that hospital that day and saw that her father was rushed in and went after them. Usually the adminster blood pressure lowering meds in case of a heart attack, but my aunt rushed in and told them to give him blood pressure intensifying meds, because he has heart attacks because of low blood pressure. And he had cancer and so on. There is some more minor stories in and around it, would probably depend on how to tell it. Sadly the best first-hand account is no longer with us. But he outlived all of the families that moved into that house basically. All the fathers that moved in together died decades before him, he was the only left standing. Don’t know how interesting as a whole, especially unverified in some cases this is.
Imma bundle a few here, to make them more appealing as a whole. The three almost near-misses with death I had. Two were before I was born. One was my grandmother was born into WW2, her dad had died in the war and she had to take on responsibilities at home early. She was around 9. One day she had to go to the bakery with the neighbours. They had to pass through a park on the way, when they entered the park my grandmother realised she had forgotten her wallet. She ran back to get it. That day there was a bomber attack without an alarm. (It was western Germany so close to the weapon industry) The park was destroyed and the neighbours were found dead. Thankfully humans can forget. The second one is just to add more to the theme. It is basically just that part of the placenta broke off when my mom was pregnant with me and it was right when it was over the ‘exit’, which then looks similar to a failed pregnancy I have heard and can lead to birth defects or a failed pregnancy, I think. Again, was more because of the theme I introduced. The third was when we were on vacation in the US of A (I am and my family is German), in the Big Apple to be more precise. We went to visit the liberty statue. Me and my brother apparently overslept and were lazy and so when we went to go to liberty island it took us ages and so we could not take the helicopter ride around liberty island as we had planned. At least the one we had planned, we wouldn’t make it. (I double-checked and coulf verify the crash). We were planning on going on the helicopter that crashed into a private plane in 2009. We did not take a helicopter ride there after all. And over the grand canyon we took a small plane and not the heli. I don’t know if they are at all interesting. Again I could provide more information and detail in the case they are. But if you want to create a final destination theme, I think some could fit.

The car was a white MX3 Pro variant.
The doors were heavy, and closed with a satisfying thud.
The rear seats are wide and comfy, but the front seats are too narrow for most folks.
I'm a small guy, 5'6 and 58kgs, and I felt that the side bolsters were squeezing me quite good. If I were any wider, it'd be uncomfortable.
Coming to the drive, the torque low down is good, and the car easily pulled ahead with minimal clutch slippage.
The engine is unbelievably refined, and literally feels smoother than the petrol motor of most cars.
Almost zero engine sound and zero vibrations. I couldn't believe that this is a Mahindra Diesel engine, that's how good the refinement and nvh levels were.
As you get going, you'll notice a slight surge at around 1700 rpms, and then a bigger surge at 2000 rpms when that big turbo spools up to full boost.
However, the car doesn't feel as quick as the 300 Nm torque numbers suggest.
While there's a definite push in the back feeling when the turbo kicks in, there's no raw feeling aggression in this car.
It's just too well behaved and too smooth.
The chassis is so composed that there's zero nosedive in hard braking and zero nose lift while accelerating hard. It just remains flat.
And this numbs the level of forces you feel as a passenger in the car.
It felt like a German car in that aspect, where the speed and acceleration feels slower than what it really is. While most normies like this smoothness, I found it a bit bland, and felt wanting for a more raw experience.
Another thing that disappointed me was the rev hang and the artificial smoothening of the throttle release and engine braking.
When you push in the clutch for a shift, the revs hang for a second before they start dropping down.
This causes unnecessary wear to the synchros and also wastes fuel.
Also, it was taking around 2 seconds for the engine braking to kick in after I let go of the throttle, and even after the engine braking arrived, it felt very weak, typical of a diesel engine.
If you like engine braking, stick to a petrol engine.
My test drive was in Kolkata (Newtown area) with almost no traffic on the road, and I got a mileage of 13kmpl, which is frankly lower than expected.
Now, coming to the deal breaker:
THIS CAR IS MADE FOR PEOPLE ABOVE THE HEIGHT OF 5'10.
Yes, you read that right. The ergonomics are seriously flawed.
The belt line is really high, and to get a good view of the outside, you'll have to raise the seat height.
However, when you do that, you'll realise that you're unable to press the clutch anymore. I literally had to keep my knees absolutely straight, and still could only press the clutch using my toes. My heels were unable to touch the clutch pedal when it was fully depressed.
So to fix this, i moved the seat height back to its default lower position, and then had a barely ok reach to the pedals.
But now, I faced the issue of outside visibility, and the base of the side window was at the level of my lips, so basically, I could barely see out of the car.
Taking u turns was a scary affair, because I had to do a lot of guesswork to judge the sides of the car.
No matter what seating position i tried, there was some ergonomic issue. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm simply too short to safely operate this vehicle.
If you are below 5'10, please get a variant with 360° cameras, otherwise you will be a danger to other road users, that's how bad the ergonomics and outward visibility are.
Coming to the ride quality and suspensions, they were absolutely top notch and the car simply flattened most undulations and bumps, whole having minimal body roll at high speed cornering.
I urge you to test drive the car before you buy it, because I truly believe it's not usable for the average sized Indian.

It followed the story of a man who was either convicted or on trial for the murder of his toddler daughter. She was shot in the passenger seat of his car and he said it was a drive by, but the police believe he killed her. There was lots of talk about gun shot residue on his hands and the fact he worked at a photocopy centre (or something similar) which may have impacted the tests.
