2024.05.23 12:28 Godofmytoenails Wuwa has EXTREME optimization issues alongside many other things

First of all i want to start this stating that i absolutely love Kuro and PGR. But this game is an utter embarrassment right now.
Lets start with core problem: Performance. Game is built on Unreal engine by developers that STRICTLY made games for Unity. PGR and Wuwa litterally has the same size (if PGR isnt higher) and the optimization difference them is mind numbingly massive. My pc runs Genshin on medium settings and i generally put it to low for smoother experience, i have all settings maxed out on PGR and havent had a single frame drop (other than having issue with a PC related thing that i fixed later that isnt related to the game, saying this because i have made comments about PGR PC client optimization before) now what about wuwa? Sorry but its utter DOG SHIT. I cant even get a consistent 30 FPS on lowest possible settings in the game wich is just insanity. Who was supposed to play this again? I dont understand the switch to Unreal engine at all, the assets look weird and cheap and animations look very stiff, its like they solely used Unreal to oppose Genshins Unity engine. Yes i have seen the Unity dramas but wasnt this game being made years prior to that shit show?
Story/Exploration: PGR was an amazing scifi game. Its story definitely wasnt fleshed at start but it has one of the best scifi world buildings out there right now and i havent seen anything even remotely similar to its premise. Wuwa is the complete 180, the story is SO bland, yap intensive and pathless that i have zero clue what it even was about. Like its as bland as it could get before being released wich shocked me, i expected some unique merits like PGR but no, legitimately nothing felt connectable or important at all. Things just "happened" and we were just "there" thats it. I cant even call this watered down genshin because it would be an actual insult to genshin, even at start of the game we HAD a goal and we DID stuff knowing that goal. I wont say that genshin had the good story writing it does now at the time but atleast we had a meaningful purpose. I legit have zero clue the point of whats going on in Wuwa right now, story is somehow EVEN WORSE in terms of unskippable lines and first 50 minutes being just tutorial didnt help either. Also this MC is fucking bland as cardboard, like holly shit even barely talking Traveler had quite bit of funny lines to choose, Rovers lines are litterally "Thanks/Thank you/Thank you so much" and thats it (dont even get me started on start of the story basically being a run down copy of HSRs even to the CPR line)
Exploration is sketch as the game doesnt focus on it but saying it doesnt have any unique and beautiful scenery would be just wrong, i personally love their simplistic modern blocky environments that they use from time to time to symbolize MIND/Conciousness levels, one of my favorite design choices of all time. Wuwa? Sorry but it LITTERALLY looks like watered down genshin. Nothing looks memorable, the world art style isnt unique to look at like genshin and i havent seen any unique land marks either, its like they tought just making it OW was enough on its own when Genshin had tons of unique map elements and monster interactions even as far back as 1.0, i have like nothing to say about Exploration. Wall running is cool but very niche and... thats it. Its so forgetable that i have nothing else to provide
Gameplay: Now this is the "saving grace" for many people criticizing the game and honestly it isnt. From making a combat system as fast paced and deep as PGR im so suprised to see how far away the quality of Wuwas combat is from PGR. PGRs unique skill mechanics and more hardcore combat elements made its extremely catchy to continuously play, Wuwa just has alot of random things in my opinion, Grapple is nice but eh, Class skills exist for some reason and main skills arent that impressive either. I honestly didnt find it any better than Genshins combat system, and heck i think Genshins combat is sorta saved thanks to how unique elemental mechanics are so you can mix and match many units, Wuwa doesnt really have this and it works alot differently so the ability of forging many different types of teams get reduced a ton too. I just didnt find it unique and have no clue why they abondoned the PGR system at all
Gacha: Ill get to this later about Genshin but Gacha is just Genshins gacha with few QoLs. People seem to not understand what "free dupes" or "guranteed weapons" mean. The EASIER it is to obtain something about a character the MORE important it is for their kit as a whole, on PGR you are basically expected to buy the free dupes of characters and also their weapons simply because they are "farmable" and "easy to obtain" wich makes the base character alot less powerful as a result. It might not be the case for now (im not sure if current character dupes are that important) but it will 100% become crucial as time goes. On genshin you arent expected to have multiple cons or the weapon of the character so you are still getting a kit that can completely fulfill the characters main niche effectively, this isnt the case for PGR where dupe and no dupe damage differences can be day and night apart so i wouldnt be suprised if you required these in Wuwa too
The most annoying one: LITTERALLY GENSHIN RESKINNED: I dont have hate boner for any game and i find villainizing video games really hilarious BUT even tough i dont want to say it, wuwa is LITTERALLY a worse replica of Genshin. Story foundation and dialogue mechanics? Genshin. Artifact system? Genshin. Main banner system? Genshin. End game? Genshin. Movement? Genshin. I cant say ANYTHING unique about the game without providing genshin as its litterally reskinned version of it. I dont disdain getting inspiration from other games but what in the actual fuck, this game feels more like a community mod for Genshin than an actual game. You could litterally remove characters and the map and replace it with genshins and NOTHING would have changed. Making a game based off of the mainstream target is a great move but you need to branch off at SOME POINT. Only place where wuwa sorta differs is Combat and even there i dont think its day and night apart at all. I have zero clue why would anyone call this Genshin killer when its on every metric a Genshin reskin. You would have expected it to branch off and do something unique that genshin doesnt or focus on something that genshin sucks at but it doesnt. You can call this game "watered down genshin" and you would be absolutely right as it litterally is. I found many elements just needless to be in the game that seems to solely exist because genshin has it. Best example being climbing when i hardly remember needing it.
TLDR: Its litterally impossible to talk about "Wuthering Waves" as you are talking about "Genshin" 90% of the time or its poor performance or story writing on other 10% only good part of the game is its combat wich if anyone has played PGR before is such an insane downgrade compared it to it that i has to recheck if Kuro was the one that really made this. I hope atleast Performance and Story issues get fixed but games LOOKS doesnt feel memorable in the slightest. It feels like Kuro tought genshin hate was so strong that it would sustain the game on its own but why would a genshin hater play thid game when its litterally a satirical reskin of it? Im just ashamed

hi ! i'm sorry if this will be very long, but i'm a bit at wit's end and i desperately need help. so for some background, i don't have a lot of experience with javascript or html, but my job requires that i occasionally have to bootstrap things together because my workplace won't hire a developer.
so here i am trying to figure out this problem with nothing but vague understanding of how the code works and GPT4.
the problem: i have a worksheet on google sheets tied to a live google form. the form is for students to select dates that they'd be available for a test. currently we comb through the 200 replies (and counting, over 600 students have been sent the form) whenever we need a list of students that are going to be coming for the test on a certain day, and whether or not they'll have a laptop.
i figured it would be easier to write some apps script to do this at a click. i've put both the client side html and the javascript below. however, while the client side and dialogue boxes and what not work fine, the generateList function always fails and i gave no idea why.
i'm ready to provide as much context as possible if anyone needs to it help me !

2024.05.23 12:13 ELDERSTARFALL Vanilla Protagonist?

I like to always do a “vanilla protagonist” character play-through in all the open world RPGs I play, and have been doing so recently in Dragon’s Dogma 2… but would like to know the communities thoughts on the “vanilla Arisen” build, their vocation, weapons and armour.
It’s usually quite an easy task to pick these things, I simply only use what the main protagonist is using in the game’s official trailers (I’ve done this for the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, to name but a few), but it’s a little bit trickier for DD2, as there are lots of different in-game references to the player in their trailers.
So far I’ve kept it simple and chosen the pre-set male (Savan) character, and I would only assume that his vocation should be Fighter (although I use Warfarer for use of some other weapons and the freedom to wear anything).
The only real armour set I’ve managed to find that could be classed as “vanilla” is from the the History tab in game; heading to Tutorial Logbook and looking at most of the images you’ll see “Savan” wearing Meloirean Plate, Darkmetal Greaves and wielding a Trusty Sword and Iron Shield, for the most part. You could also take reference from the vocation images too, which would then put him in other outfits, but I think sticking with the Fighter look seems like the most “vanilla Arisen”, and that’s what I’m currently playing as.
Thoughts?

Hello everyone.
I'm currently working on a 2d12 roll-over system for a Dark Fantasy setting, inspired by Errant, Imperium Maledictum, Freebooters on The Frontier and some other systems. The aim is to marry tactical/satisfying combat with narrative resolution while bridging the gap between out of combat and in-combat moves and competences.
There are attributes and skills, their bonuses are added together and the maximum possible bonus is 10 (4 from attribute and 6 from skills).
The basic resolution mechanic is based around 2d12+MODIFIERS-DIFFICULTY and comparing the result to a success table with 5 Degrees of success (Crit Fail, Fail, Mixed Success, Success, Critical Success).
To get to the question at hand, I'm working on a way to make armor matter (significant reduction vs inadequate attacks or weak weapons) without making combat into a slog.

The Armor System

The Damage System

After the attack or parry/dodge rolls (both player facing), but before the armor roll, damage is rolled.
I'm mostly playing on Foundry VTT and most of the math is automated (so penetrating damage has the Armor reduction autocalculated) and the tricky parts (devastating tags/Success Thresholds) are highlighted, so complexity is not a factor. There are ways to defeat armor in grappling, specialized melee weapons, firearms and magical or strong attacks.

Questions

  1. Do you think the DR implied with the roll is too high or to low? An alternative for making it higher is using 2d10 instead of 2d12 for Armor Rolls.
  2. Would it make combat sluggish? I would like to keep to-hit rolls since a lot of the tactical combat revolves around gaining higher chance to hit.
  3. Does it suck to inflict full damage and seeing it negated? I wanted to work around this by making full damage and critical hits "Devastating" by default.

2024.05.23 11:55 CP4-Throwaway My span for the transition between the Modern 1960's & Classic 1970's (Part I: Winter 1969 to Fall 1970)

This post is long overdue as I just kept procrastinating to do this for the longest, but finally, it's here.
The start is kind of tricky to figure out but the end is very easy. The start is most likely going to be with Richard Nixon's inauguration on January 20, 1969 and the end will be the Paris Peace Accords on January 27, 1973. I know early-mid 1969 does kind of seem like a stretch to include the transition (although some are even willing to start the 1970s in 1968, so maybe not a stretch after all), unlike late 1969-1972/early 1973ish, as that period still screamed "60s" in many ways with Woodstock, the Moon Landing, and such, but I think even that period had enough "70s" things to exclude it out of the "core '60s" territory, especially by the time you hit the summer of '69.
I know most will disagree with the timespan but this is just my opinion. This is gonna be much longer so this will probably be done in two or three parts, one again.

The inauguration of Richard Nixon - January 20, 1969

After the chaotic year that was 1968, with the incumbent president Lyndon B. Johnson not running for a second time, Richard M. Nixon had narrowly defeated Hubert Humphrey, the incumbent vice president, in the presidential election. Nixon became the first non-incumbent vice president to be inaugurated as president, something that would not happen again until Joe Biden in 2021. I'd say this is appropriate to begin the transition into the tumultuous decade that was the 1970s.

In the spring of '69, soul/funk band Sly and the Family Stone released their fourth album Stand. Lew Alcindor becomes the #1 pick for the NBA Draft - April 7, 1969

The 1969 NBA draft was the 23rd annual draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on April 7 and May 7, 1969, before the 1969–70 season. The first overall draft pick this year would be none other than Lew Alcindor (or later, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, as we all know him as) from UCLA for the Milwaukee Bucks organization. This would be the changing of the guard for the National Basketball Association as the veteran Boston Celtics dynasty were about to come to an end while a new dynasty has officially been born.

After defeating the highly-favored Los Angeles Lakers team of Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, and Jerry West, the aging Bill Russell-led Boston Celtics team win the 1969 NBA World Championship Series to end off the 1968-1969 NBA season, acquiring win their 11th championship as an organization. This was a significant Finals series as this marked the end of the Bill Russell Celtics dynasty that began in 1956. This would be their final championship as a team as Russell would retire shortly after this playoff series.

Star Trek ends with the "Turnabout Intruder" episode - June 3, 1969

"Turnabout Intruder" is the twenty-fourth and final episode of the third season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek. Written by Arthur H. Singer (based on a story by Gene Roddenberry) and directed by Herb Wallerstein, it was first broadcast on June 3, 1969. In the episode, a woman switches bodies with Captain Kirk and then tries to take over command of the Enterprise. This was the last original episode of Star Trek to air on NBC.
"Turnabout Intruder" not only marked the final appearance of all main and supporting cast members of the show but also the last appearance of regular background actors David L. Ross (Lieutenant Galloway), William Blackburn (Lieutenant Hadley and DeForest Kelley's stand-in), and Roger Holloway (Lieutenant Lemli and James Doohan's stand-in). The episode drew Nielsen ratings of only 8.8, in contrast to rival shows Lancer on CBS and The Mod Squad on ABC, which gained ratings of 14.7 and 15.2 respectively, a drop of over fifty percent since the show premiered. Cultural theorist Cassandra Amesley states that this episode is "agreed to be one of the worst Star Trek episodes ever shown" by Star Trek fans.
The original Star Trek series ending would be another shedding off of 60s culture.

Brian Jones dies - July 3, 1969

Rolling Stones star Brian Jones passes away at the age of 27 in the summer of 1969 after reportedly drowning in his swimming pool. Long story short, a lot of theories would surface surrounding his death years later saying that he was killed. And more importantly, this would be the beginning of the "27 Club" deaths that would occur with 60s musical acts between 1969 and 1971.

The Apollo 11 spaceflight to the moon - July 20, 1969

Apollo 11 (July 16–24, 1969) was the American spaceflight that first landed humans on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969, at 20:17 UTC, and Armstrong became the first person to step onto the Moon's surface six hours and 39 minutes later, on July 21 at 02:56 UTC. Aldrin joined him 19 minutes later, and they spent about two and a quarter hours together exploring the site they had named Tranquility Base upon landing.
Humans walking on the Moon and returning safely to Earth accomplished Kennedy's goal set eight years earlier. In Mission Control during the Apollo 11 landing, Kennedy's speech flashed on the screen, followed by the words "TASK ACCOMPLISHED, July 1969". The Manson Family murders - August 8 to 10, 1969

The Tate–LaBianca murders were a series of murders perpetrated by members of the Manson Family during August 9–10, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, United States, under the direction of Tex Watson and Charles Manson. The perpetrators killed five people on the night of August 8–9: pregnant actress Sharon Tate and her companions Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, and Wojciech Frykowski, along with Steven Parent. The following evening, the Family also murdered supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, at their home in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles.
On the night of August 8–9, four members of the Manson Family – Watson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Linda Kasabian – drove from Spahn Ranch to 10050 Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon, the home of Sharon Tate and her husband, film director Roman Polanski. The group murdered Tate (who was 8½ months pregnant), and guests Jay Sebring, a celebrity hairdresser; Abigail Folger, heiress to Folgers Coffee; her boyfriend Wojciech Frykowski, an aspiring screenwriter; and Steven Parent, an 18-year-old visiting the guest house caretaker. Roman Polanski was not home as he was working on a film in Europe. Manson was a cult leader and aspiring musician who had tried to get a contract with record producer Terry Melcher, who had previously rented the house.
The following night, those four people, in addition to Manson, Leslie Van Houten and Steve "Clem" Grogan, committed two more murders. Manson had allegedly said he would "show them how to do it". Linda Kasabian drove the group to 3301 Waverly Drive. Manson left with Atkins, Grogan, and Kasabian in the car and told the others to hitchhike back to the ranch. Watson, Krenwinkel, and Van Houten killed the couple in the early morning hours of August 10.
The Tate–LaBianca murders "profoundly shook America's perception of itself" and "effectively sounded the death knell of '60s counterculture". Additionally, the ritualistic nature of the murders laid a foundation for the rise of the Satanic panic.

The Woodstock festival - August 15 to 18, 1969

Woodstock Music and Art Fair, commonly referred to as Woodstock, was a music festival held from August 15 to 18, 1969, on Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York, 40 miles (65 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock. Billed as "an Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music" and alternatively referred to as the Woodstock Rock Festival, it attracted more than 460,000 attendees. Thirty-two acts performed outdoors despite overcast and sporadic rain. It was one of the largest music festivals in history and became synonymous with the counterculture of the 1960s.
The festival has become widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history, as well as a defining event for the Silent and Baby Boomer generations. The event's significance was reinforced by a 1970 documentary film, an accompanying soundtrack album, and a song written by Joni Mitchell that became a major hit for both Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Matthews Southern Comfort.

The Brady Bunch premieres on ABC - September 26, 1969

The Brady Bunch was a new series that premiered on ABC for the 1969-70 fall season. It starts with the episode "The Honeymoon", which gives this description on Fandom:
"Michael Brady, an architect and widower with three sons (Greg, Peter and Bobby) marries Carol Ann Martin, a mother with three daughters (Marcia, Jan and Cindy). Mike and Carol have a chaotic backyard wedding, in which the boys' dog, Tiger, chases the girls' cat, Fluffy. Mike and Carol admonish their children, yelling at them to go catch their pets. The newlywed couple goes on a honeymoon later that day, while the children sit at home thinking that their parents hate them. Sesame Street debuts - November 10, 1969

In the fall of 1969, “Sesame Street,” a pioneering TV show that would teach generations of young children the alphabet and how to count, makes its broadcast debut. “Sesame Street,” with its memorable theme song (“Can you tell me how to get/How to get to Sesame Street”), went on to become the most widely viewed children’s program in the world. It has aired in more than 120 countries.
The show was the brainchild of Joan Ganz Cooney, a former documentary producer for public television. Cooney’s goal was to create programming for preschoolers that was both entertaining and educational. She also wanted to use TV as a way to help underprivileged 3- to 5- year-olds prepare for kindergarten. “Sesame Street” was set in a fictional New York neighborhood and included ethnically diverse characters and positive social messages.
Taking a cue from “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In,” a popular 1960s variety show, “Sesame Street” was built around short, often funny segments featuring puppets, animation and live actors. This format was hugely successful, although over the years some critics have blamed the show and its use of brief segments for shrinking children’s attention spans.

The 'David Bowie' album releases - November 14, 1969

Originally released in the UK, David Bowie's self-titled album would be his second studio album released, which would be titled under the genres of folk rock and psychedelic rock. Space rock was another genre that this album experimented with due to its only released single "Space Oddity", which came out in July 1969 to capitalize on the Apollo 11 Moon landing, received critical praise, and was used by the BBC as background music during its coverage of the event. That song is considered to be one of the most musically complex songs he had written up to that point, it represented a change from the music hall-influenced sound of his debut to a sound akin to psychedelic folk and inspired by the Bee Gees.
David Bowie has received mixed reviews in later decades, with many finding a lack of cohesiveness. Bowie himself later stated that it lacked musical direction. Debate continues as to whether it should stand as Bowie's first "proper" album.

The Altamont Free Concert takes place - December 6, 1969

The Altamont Speedway Free Festival was a counterculture rock concert in the United States, held on Saturday, December 6, 1969, at the Altamont Speedway outside of Tracy, California. Approximately 300,000 attended the concert, with some anticipating that it would be a "Woodstock West". The Woodstock festival had taken place in Bethel, New York, in mid-August, almost four months earlier.
The event is remembered for its use of Hells Angels as security and its significant violence, including the stabbing death of Meredith Hunter and three accidental deaths: two from a hit-and-run car accident, and one from a drowning incident in an irrigation canal. Scores were injured, numerous cars were stolen (and subsequently abandoned), and there was extensive property damage.
The concert featured performances (in order of appearance) by Santana, Jefferson Airplane, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY), with the Rolling Stones taking the stage as the final act. The Grateful Dead were also scheduled to perform after CSNY, but shortly before their scheduled appearance, they chose not to due to the increasing violence at the venue. "That's the way things went at Altamont—so badly that the Grateful Dead, the prime organizers and movers of the festival, didn't even get to play," wrote staff at Rolling Stone magazine in a detailed narrative on the event, terming it, in an additional follow-up piece, "rock and roll's all-time worst day, December 6th, a day when everything went perfectly wrong."
Many people would mark this event to be the end of the cultural 60s.

MAS*H releases in theaters - January 25, 1970

M*A*S*H (stylized on-screen as MASH) is a 1970 American dark war comedy film directed by Robert Altman and written by Ring Lardner Jr., based on Richard Hooker's 1968 novel MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors. The picture is the only theatrically released feature film in the M*A*S*H franchise.
The film depicts a unit of medical personnel stationed at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) during the Korean War. It stars Donald Sutherland, Tom Skerritt, and Elliott Gould, with Sally Kellerman, Robert Duvall, René Auberjonois, Gary Burghoff, Roger Bowen, Michael Murphy, and in his film debut, professional football player Fred Williamson. Although the Korean War is the film's storyline setting, the subtext is the Vietnam War – a current event at the time the film was made. Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau, who saw the film in college, said M*A*S*H was "perfect for the times, the cacophony of American culture was brilliantly reproduced onscreen".
M*A*S*H became one of the biggest films of the early 1970s for 20th Century-Fox and is now considered one of the greatest films ever made and also won the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film, later named the Palme d'Or, at the 1970 Cannes Film Festival.
This film was a another huge sign of 70s culture as it inspired the television series M*A*S*H, which ran from 1972 to 1983. Gary Burghoff, who played Radar O'Reilly, was the only actor playing a major character who appeared in both the movie and the TV series. Altman despised the TV series, calling it "the antithesis of what we were trying to do" with the movie.

The Kent State Massacre - May 4, 1970

In the spring of 1970, members of the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of Kent State University demonstrators, killing four and wounding nine Kent State students. The impact of the shootings was dramatic. The event triggered a nationwide student strike that forced hundreds of colleges and universities to close. H. R. Haldeman, a top aide to President Richard Nixon, suggests the shootings had a direct impact on national politics.

Jimi Hendrix passes away - September 18, 1970

On September 18, 1970, American musician Jimi Hendrix died in London at the age of 27. One of the 1960s' most influential guitarists, he was described by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as "arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music."
Hendrix's death was reportedly due to him aspirating on his own vomit, later dying of asphyxia, while intoxicated with barbiturates. At the inquest, the coroner, finding no evidence of suicide, and lacking sufficient evidence of the circumstances, recorded an open verdict. Dannemann stated that Hendrix had taken nine of her prescribed Vesparax sleeping tablets, 18 times the recommended dosage.
Jimi Hendrix's death was another huge blow to 60s culture and he would be another number added to the new "27 Club" list of celebrities that would continue with none other than.....

Janis Joplin passes away - October 4, 1970

On Sunday evening, October 4, 1970, Joplin was found dead on the floor of her room at the Landmark Motor Hotel by her road manager and close friend John Byrne Cooke. Alcohol was present in the room. Newspapers reported that no other drugs or paraphernalia were present.
According to a 1983 book authored by Joseph DiMona and Los Angeles County coroner Thomas Noguchi, evidence of narcotics was removed from the scene by a friend of Joplin and later put back after the person realized that an autopsy was going to reveal that narcotics were in her system. The book adds that prior to Joplin's death, Noguchi had investigated other fatal drug overdoses in Los Angeles where friends believed they were doing favors for decedents by removing evidence of narcotics, then they "thought things over" and returned to put back the evidence.
Noguchi performed an autopsy on Joplin and determined the cause of death to be a heroin overdose, possibly compounded by alcohol.
Joplin's death, just like Hendrix's, was a huge blow to the more optimistic culture of the 1960s, and the 27 Club list of celebrity deaths are continuing.

As the title said whats your ideas on the next game? Only narrative/plot no game mechanics or features. For me orion will set after the 2077 plot (duh?), probably the main story will focus on the dawn of a new corpo war headed by arasaka vs militech. Our character like v will find himself/herself entagled in the matters by accident, forced to advance in this situation for survive, maybe because it will be a "chosen one" of some sort: in possession of a unique info that will change the political situation? Or a weapon? I don't like the idea that the game reuse the relic/engram stuff again like V's story unless the engram in question was tied to V itself (if the game will consider one particular ending canon), could be really interesting have a V npc that guide the character like Johnny did. But i have no great ideas and so here i am to read yours, im very curios.

So I need some help diagnosing some problems with a 2d Two-Body simulator I have created. It uses just the gravitational attraction between two bodies to display the orbit of a satellite around a central non-moving body (Using Earth in my example).
I am finding the current orbit has some issues.
The first is that it's not matching my pre-calculated prediction. I was expecting a circular orbit at 360km but instead, I am getting a slightly eccentric orbit 186km-390km in altitude.
So saving that to the side, the altitude that it is reporting, the velocities doesn't match what it should be at those altitudes. So in the orbit, it's doing on screen at its lowest point it should be 7.619km/s and the highest it should be 7.856km/s. But on screen, it displays 4.2km/s to 8.8km/s which is a wildly larger orbit.
The second high thing is the time. I've set the fps to 60. But the simulation runs.....fast. Each pixel is one km so I would expect that on-screen it should take the full orbital period (90min-ish for both the preplanned and actual) but it's like two seconds. https://github.com/NZjeux26/GravitySim This is the link, I didn't want to post it all here since it'd take all the characters up. The code is quite messy since it's quite early on and I haven't done my tidy up.

You need to add the onscreen altitude to the diameter of the Earth, so 6371km + whatever height you are above.
I'm not sure if this is a math problem (the formulas and numbers I am using in the code) or a code problem (particularly with the screen and updating). I would appreciate any insight.

Hello everyone!
A few months ago, I took over Game Maker to create games. (The last time I used it was when it was still Game Maker 8!)
To learn, I based myself on the default project: Windy Wood.
However, after comparing the video tutorial on the Game Maker website and the example project proposed by the software, there are some big differences, but I managed to adapt and understand how everything works. Except for the slopes.
I'm racking my brain and can't figure out where to place my "move_and_collide" function.
I've managed to get the slopes to work, but it's causing a lot of problems with my character's movements.

I've added the code to the character's Step. But I sometimes have a huge problem with gravity when we're on a slope, because to give a smooth effect on the way down, I had to increase the gravity. Also, the tutorial for creating a platform where you can walk on it and jump under it is totally buggy as a result. I've made a short video so you can get a better idea of the problem.

Hello! I come with a new Rp idea. This time about a dark fantasy world. The story and world is inspired by fear and hunger, dark souls and Berserk.
Although you may have seen the "with a combat system" part of the title. Let me elaborate. The rp will have two states, one is peaceful which is up in the over world and combat and expropriation which is in the dungeons. In the over world we'll be able to buy and sell items, weapons and armor, Get quests from the gild and NPCs and just rest up and heal. In the dungeons we'll have to explore and fight. We'll be able to find items, weapons and armor way better than anything we can buy but only the deeper we go. We can also find gold. But. Things can also find us. Combat works like this. I'll give you a character sheet and we'll have to fill it out. We both start at level 1 and are pretty weak. Everything works on d20 dice, and your stats. I'm sure you know how that works. For exploring, when we open a chest you'll have to choose heads or tails, I'll do a coin flip a if we win we get something. If we lose we get nothing or get jumped. We both have hit points and can die in the dungeons. But how will the rp continue if we die? You may ask. We'll have to reload a save. How do we save? You may ask again. Pinned messages. The last message we pin is our save point and we'll respawn there. We can't save in the dungeons however.
Anyways that's the whole thing. I can write in first and third person and I can write up to a paragraph, but I don't really mind what your writing length is as long as it's not a one liner. Also do know that I have dyslexia so my spelling won't be perfect. I would also like a partner that can speak out of the rp as well. For setting up things. This is just meme theorycrafting with the question how high can you get firefly speed? This is really just for lols, and i dont know too much about how a few of the interactions work. I also dont carry about advance forward in this, I only care about that speed number, also im doing this at 5am so please judge me for that.
so v3 firefly has base 104 speed, getting to 109 with traces. Her ult gives her 66 speed with ult eidolon lvls (were using that), so she has a base 175 speed in ult. Add in boots and we a nice 200. So lets try to get 500 speed.
Obviously for sets you use messenger 2pc and the new artifact for each 6% speed increase. We sadly dont have another 2pc speed to double dip or a 4 pc set that works (we will have 4pc messanger on someone else for reasons later on). Im assuming every relic has 10 speed on it (besides boots) for another +50 speed.
For characters, Im going with tingyuan, asta, and hanya, as I think they're the best for adding for speed and im too lazy to see if there are others (im pretty sure tingyuan has ruan mei beat)
Tingyuan is self explanatory, 20% speed from e1 for firefly. If you could somehow get a second ult, you would apply it to hanya. She will be running meditation for that sweet +20 speed. Now I dont know if meditation stacks or not, it doesnt say it doesnt stack, so i'll assume it does. We'll be running 4pc messanger for that increased allied speed.
Next is asta, for 52 speed from ult and 20 speed from meditation. Note I do not know how if her ult speed/meditation speed is affected by the %increased speed from relics/planars, so that will change calcs. Also in messenger just we always have it, as i dont know what exact order the ults need to be popped in.
Finally, we have the best physical harmony support, Hanya. She's here to give the penultimate speed boost to firefly, 21% of her own speed. meditation, 2pc messenger, 2 pc new planar set, speed boots, 10 speed on all other relics. Having her cast ult when she has the most speed is crucial.
So now we get to the math, and im not to sure how it is all calculated and will probably fail horribly, but here i go; For %speed increases (and assuming they just additively and not multiplicatively), we have 12% (firefly artifacts), 12% messenger 4pc, 20% (tingyuan e1), for a modest 54% increased speed increase. For flat speed (assuming it all stacks and is all increased), we have; 200 speed in ult, 50 speed from artifacts, 60(??) speed from meditation (surely this doesnt stack,), 52 speed from asta, for 362 speed and then 21% of hanyas speed, which is just the same equation, just losing the 65 ult speed and tingyuan buff. And thats everything (i think).
Meditation Stacking:1.54(362+1.34(362-65))=1170.4 speed Meditation not stacking calc: 1.54(322+1.34(322-65))=1026.23 speed
Listen ill be honest my calcs are gonna be ass, and someone way better has prolly done this before and you could just substitute firefly into their equation for it. But if you find this interesting/infuriating, please help and enlighten me on how it truly works. Im also not even sure the rotation for this. I dont expect this to be right, and a lot of this hinges on % modifiers working simply, which they prolly dont. Anyways cheers.

2024.05.23 11:34 ExactCat4613 Trying to go deeper on Nesta and what she reveals

I recently finished ACOSF and have been reading a lot of discourse (delivered algorithmically and self-inflicted lol) about Nesta’s relationships in the book (and series overall), and I wanted to synthesize my thoughts. Please excuse the length I just need to get this out of my system pronto.
Before diving in I do want to disclaim that I see the weakness of Maas’ plotting and characterization as part of the reason there is so much reader angst regarding Nesta and her relationships. Also, just to share my biases up front: Nesta and Cassian, separately and coupled are my favorite characters! Not in the way of I will defend them, but that they are most compelling to me.
Let’s consider immortality. This is mostly conjecture because there isn’t much done textually to explore what it really means to be hundreds of years old, how that influences characters psyches and motivations. I am discovering my resistance to the refrain that “they’re 500+ years old they (the IC, fae, immortals) should know and do better.” How many of our biggest ops are elders, people with more experience in life? These are people who have through their lives become set and stubborn, blinded in their ways, now let’s put this on a centuries long scale. How many of us recognize and yet still struggle to find a way out of our most unpleasant patterns? In some ways Amren is the best example of this, being the eldest in the IC, she has obviously made choices to stay with this group, and I would argue it is in part because they are so powerful and it is in her nature to cultivate and wield power. Perhaps her ancientness is more of a weakness than shown. One of the biggest tragedies of the IC is how they lack positive, deep, and consistent relationships with elder fae that are contemporaneous to the plot. They are each others teachers and peers. Another textual example of this is the bat boys wanting to “liberate” Illyrian women, and failing for the most part due to their own flaws, and the undeniable challenge of struggling with society in general.
A great example of a book series that engages with the consequences of immortality at a much deeper level than ACOTAR is The Patternist Series by Octavia Butler. These books explores how powerful immortals develop and often not cannot change over their eons especially with regard to romantic, sexual, and familial relationships. It may go without saying, but Butler is a far more sophisticated writer than Maas in all ways, but I wanted to make the recommendation in case other people are interested in this theme. You want morally gray? Butler will 👏 take 👏 you 👏 there.
Some textual evidence to consider with regard to the dynamic between Rhys, Cassian, and Nesta. There are several moments throughout ACOSF where Cassian experiences the seemingly inherent and undeniable, perhaps even biological influence of Rhys’ dominance. Even when he struggles internally against what Rhys is asking him to do, there is a lack of agency that comes with this hierarchical relationship between the two of them. Nesta’s separation from Rhys due to her human to fae transformation, and I would argue equivalent power beyond his influence makes it possible for her to articulate her dislike and clear-eyed judgements of him. We know this about Feyre too, though her perspective is clouded by their mating bond and her own flaws. And there are at least two instances where Cassian demands that Nesta stop or rescind her criticism of Rhys, which stings for those who are attached to Nesta and are hoping that Cassian will put her first.
Onto Nesta and Cassian, one aspect of the discourse around their relationship that I find frustrating is when readers forget that we know more about their relationship than them. The mutual yearning, the missteps, the internal conflicts both of these characters face are not revealed to each other. There are only a few moments very early in their relationship and towards the end of SF that they really communicate their feelings and desires to one another. Nesta holds back so much from Cassian, and he gets part (but not all) of her confession regarding her desire for him, and more importantly her self hatred and doubt. Cassian definitely leaves a lot to be desired in the final third of SF, but I would also argue that the earlier books show that he puts himself at Nesta’s feet early on in spite of their verbal tiffing. The moments that I find most compelling between them is when one of them is to “quick off the mark” in an effort to win a verbal sparring session and then they instantly regret it but struggle to apologize or rectify. For me that is so real! Neither Cassian, nor Nesta are mind readers, we are!
And now for just Nesta, I can really sympathize with readers that jump to her defense, especially when there are many other readers who are very turned off and critical of her. However, this defensiveness often results in shrinking and even outright denying her agency. Nesta knows what she wants, she just often denies herself or doesn’t have the tools to get it. And perhaps more importantly, she knows what she doesn’t want and has to navigate the fact that her wants and aversions cannot be achieved or avoided simultaneously. There isn’t a simple solution for her at any turn. For example, she wants friends, however she doesn’t want to be perceived (whomst among us cannot relate?). That’s why it takes real time for her to develop rapport and relationship with Gwynn and Emerie! They aren’t insta besties, and certainly not insta Valkyries. Finally, she is seriously down bad for Cassian—whether you want them to be together at all, forever, or not—so far she wants him emotionally, physically, spiritually etc. She considers Eris’ proposal as a way to continue punishing herself and denying herself Cassian; when she is confronted with the possibility of total power with Lanthys she remembers how much pleasure she gets from her relationship with Cassian and the goodness she sees in him. Nesta moves through her isolation and despair, but not before ignoring it, denying it, raging against it, and it takes a return to discipline that is self-directed and externally validated to overcome the abuse at the hands of her mother and father.

Gu takes the usual scary movie ideas and makes them fresh and interesting.The story is about Sai, his wife Nimisha, and their daughter Minna. They go to Sai’s old family house to do some rituals. Sai doesn’t really want to go back because his mother died there when he was a kid. Once they get there, spooky things start to happen, and the movie shows how the family deals with these supernatural events.
Sai is a character who believes in science, which makes the story more interesting as it mixes scientific ideas with ghostly happenings. The movie talks about Gulikan, a character often seen as funny, and gives it a new twist in the horror setting, which is a fresh idea.
The movie looks great, thanks to the beautiful visuals by Chandrakanth Madhavan and Srik Warrier. The bright colors add a lot to the story. The music also adds to the excitement, even though it might remind you of other famous scores.
Deva Nandha, who plays Minna, brings lots of energy to her role. Saiju Kurup, who plays Sai, does a great job showing a man torn between science and the supernatural. Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju, playing the funny uncle Mithran, adds humor to the story, making it even more enjoyable. The rest of the cast, including Maniyanpilla Raju, Aswathi Manoharan, and Nandini Gopalakrishnan, also do a good job.
Gu is 126 minutes long and keeps you interested the whole time. The movie’s unique take on Gulikan makes it stand out from other horror films. The surprising twist at the end ties everything together nicely.
Gu is a fun and exciting movie that mixes traditional horror with new ideas. With great direction by Manu Radhakrishnan, a talented cast, and stunning visuals, Gu is a must-watch for horror fans and anyone looking for a good movie. It’s a fun ride that you won’t forget.
