I just acquired this motorcycle but it wont start. The gas inside was very bad. I dumped it all out and refilled it with fresh gas. The gas line disintegrated during this process. I have new line on order that will arrive tomorrow.
I checked for spark and it's good.
If after I replace the fuel line tomorrow what should I work on next?
I'm new to carberated engines and think it would need a carb rebuild.
What's the best way of finding out exactly what it it would need?
I've attached some pics. I don't know much about this bike at all. If anyone can give me more information that would be greatly appreciated.

Burned up the piston on my Stihl 039. Saw shop wanted $700 to rebuild with piston, cylinder and main bearings. Bought short block assembly from Baileys (really the complete engine wo timing and carb) and it runs like a champ now. It may not be as good as Stihl parts but for a second/third saw it’s great. Took about two hours to complete it.

Can’t figure out the carb issue
Yes I know the garage is a catastrophe and the bike is definitely been clapped out. So anyway I bought this bike as a project around 5 years ago, it sat for a good 3 years before I even attempted to start on it. Bought it with a bad head gasket and needing a drain plug repair, got the head gasket fixed and the motor running wellish, it fires up with out a hitch but then decides to go straight for the red line, my first thought was that it was a vacuum leak on the carb, went and bought an all balls brand rebuild kit, comes with pretty much everything but the mid carb gasket, after installing the kit, which I wasn’t really happy with quality wise the bike seems to be having the exact same symptoms, outside of it being a poor quality rebuild kit what things should I look for to remedy this issue and is there better kits then the all balls one for a keihin fcr? I saw one from Tokyomods, have never heard of them hoping for recommendations before I just pull the trigger on the $80 kit.

So i just picked up a 1981 C70 for a steal. however, im pretty sure the ignition system and probably the carb need a rebuild. i was researching parts for the ignition, and i have come to a crossroads. do i just buy the ignition kit and rebuild the original system (plug, condenser and contact point) or do i upgrade it with an aftermarket CDI? i dont know that much about scooters, im brand new to this. i did used to work on cars so i am mechanically inclined, i just am not sure if the upgrade is worth it or if im biting off a lot by doing it. any help is greatly appreciated!

So I have a 1275 metro turbo engine, just had a fresh rebuild with 70.61mm 12cc pistons, stock metro turbo cam, metro head opened up to 26cc chambers, bronze valve guides, twin valve springs, all gas flowed, the engines calculated CC is around 1309 with a CR of 8.48:1, I was going to wack the original turbo on it, but I feel like it deserves better, has anyone got any recommendations for good power, this is a weekend fun car. I have narrowed my options to either going full turbo setup with a side mount turbo, supercharged with something like a Vmaxcscart kit, 7 or 8 port head, or diving into doing a twin cam conversion (probably very expensive) I’m not necessarily chasing big power but I want enough to make it ‘scary’ What would people recommend? And what supporting mods too? Like do I need to go mappable ignition timing etc… I have already upgraded brakes etc… the car is ready for more power just looking for opinions on what ended up being the most fun to drive on the road and some local auto solo events.

Hey!
My 2-stroke Aprilia SR50 (carbureted, 2005 model) won't start easily; it only starts if I pull the throttle fully open. I can hear the engine running at high RPM, but it lacks power. The rear wheel only rotates slowly. When I release the throttle, the engine stalls. If I run the engine for a longer period (like 1 minute), the carburetor starts to fill up and begins dripping fuel from the overflow, and some petrol(?) also drips from the exhaust pipe.
Here's what I've done:
* Cleaned the carburetor * Bought a carburetor renewal kit and replaced almost everything except the nozzles * Replaced the manifold * Tried to adjust the mixture to factory settings, then added more air, and raise the idle RPM * Checked the compression (4-5bar) * Spark plug is almost new * +Also when I remove the carb and spray some starter fluid directly into the engine it starts to revving like crazy 
I've read a lot of forums and handbooks on how to fine-tune the carburetor and troubleshoot scooter starting problems, but without any luck. I'm pretty sure the issue is with the carburetor, but I don't know what to do next.
Any advice?

Unknowns: *Seals, is it worth it to get an upgraded head gasket? (Don't plan to turbo but want to max stock potential) *max bore for stock ecu (assume I can only do a refresh and can't overbore with a stock ecu?) *Pistons, good recommendations for replacements? Are forged worth it if I'm not boosting? *hardware, what needs to be replaced (gonna spend extra on nicetimeracing exhaust studs)
Am I overlooking something?

2024.05.19 01:46 xSaturnityx Picked up a 1986 Yamaha yx600 for like $900, is it even worth it to keep trying to fix it?

Sorry for the long post, there's a TLDR at the bottom, just thought i'd put all the details out there.
The bike is a 1986 Yamaha YX600, a slightly odd 'mutt' bike. Bought it a bit ago. It ran when stored, but it was stored for a good while. The dude was super cool so I trusted it, and hey it was $900 for basically a complete bike+helmet+original owners manual+$150 motorcycle ramp, and just a random box of extra small parts.
I bought an original ECU to just keep it simple, I bought original gauge cluster (unfortunately don't remember entirely since it's been a while, but a modern aftermarket gauge cluster would not work, so I had to go with OEM.) Thankfully Ebay was a savior, there were not many parts for this bike and I should have done more research, but fortunately I found one seller that exclusively sells a bunch of parts for it.
After all was said and done it ran, just not very well. Then one day I noticed it was kinda running hot, I somewhat chocked it up to just being super hot outisde, but then noticed some smoke coming out of the crankcase after parking somewhere to check. It was definitely having trouble. Then it just simply wouldn't start up. Got super worried but after letting it cool down for an hour it was alright to start, and just got home quickly.
I went out after a bit and started it to check what was going on, I had a temp gun and noticed cylinder 3 was sitting at a cool 600-700 degrees, while the others were like 300-350. Go figure, it's a 4 cylinder bike with a 4-carb rack. One for each cylinder because... Dunno. The entire thing is such a PITA to take apart but I was determined.
Rebuilt it and cleaned the entire thing 3-4 times, but for some reason Cylinder 3 was running completely lean and I could not figure it out for so long. Then one time when taking it apart again, I noticed that the brass float valve would not seat properly in carb 3, it was like a mm or two high, causing the float needle to have ever so less clearance, jamming the needle up into the float valve when fuel would flow in, sealing the fuel hole entirely until it sucked whatever fuel it could from the bowl. No matter how I bent the prongs of the float, I couldn't get it to seat correctly.
I never understood this, I took it apart and every single time would switch the brass float valve, I had like 3 different kits to grab from, they were all the exact same size and float valve. Look down into the hole that the valve seats in, across all 4 carbs it was the exact same with zero difference, the hole was clean and smooth, so there was no visual reason it wouldn't fit! It irritated me so much that after the fourth time putting it back together and testing it, watching it either dump fuel out or get zero fuel to the bowl after a second, I just put the bike in storage.
I wanted to fix it, but could not figure out how, and nowhere had any information since getting info on the bike in the first place was super rough. I could either try to sand and polish the hole, or even sand down the valve and risk ruining something, or try to buy a whole new carb rack. The issue was that nobody was selling the carb set anywhere, I saw it once on Ebay but it was gone within like a day and was like $500 and didn't see another at any point.
And now time has gotten away from me quite a bit. Don't really have the time or space to work on it, and at this point I am contemplating even attempting to sell a broken bike, or just storing it until I can get to it someday and just try to figure out if any other aftermarket carbs will work for it.
TLDR: Don't have much time anymore, but i've been told the bike is rare in the sense of not too many people really owning one since it's a mutt bike, and the carb is a PITA with one of the four carbs running dangerously lean with a simple surface level issue that I can't solve after rebuilding it 4 times (Brass float valve wont seat all the way for some reason, causing the needle to get stuck in the hole and not allow fuel to flow in until the bowl empties and it gets a brief burst of fuel), and at this point it seems like my only option would be to buy a new carb rack or the specific carb and hope it's in okay condition if I could ever find one that's oem and doesn't cost half what I paid for the bike or isn't destroyed, find an aftermarket one that actually works, try to even attempt to sell it again later on (tried, no luck) or when I finally get time try to fix it and just continue to keep it in storage.

(Not really a Focus post. More like Focus' nerdy cousin post. By all means, remove if that's a problem)
So here's the deal, my Focus Friends. I'm a paint and body kind a guy. Not a rebuilding engines kind of guy. After I get done painting my F150, I'm going to have quite a bit of blue and white paint left over. So, I plan on giving my 02 Escort ZX2 a touch up.
As kind of a tribute to the old 60's rally Escorts I'm going to paint it in the American racing colors (I know 60's escorts were British... but me, my car, and the company are American. Plus, I already have the blue and white paint.) It's white already, but it's going to end up white with two blue stripes over the top and a blue underbody. Maybe I'll do a car number on the doors. Maybe not.
But here's the thing, I don't want to have it looking like a rally racer, but then otherwise be completely bone stock. Also, performance parts made for late escorts are pretty much nonexistent.
Most things I see are adding turbos or superchargers... that just seems a little over my head. So far, I'm working on building a shaker hood so it can breath better (and shaker hoods are badass. If I'm feeling totally crazy in a few years, it might get a roll cage and T-Tops assuming I find a kit that'll work).
I know it's not a Focus, and this is a Focus sub. But the 2.0 Zetec also came out in the Focus and that's really what I'm asking about. So, does anyone have any recommendations?
Also, if anyone knows a better sub to post this in, I'm all ears. For some reason everything I find on reddit for escorts is marked NSFW.

For those who are unaware, back when DMC5 released there was a rumour floating around about a potential DLC called “Ladies Night” which stared Lady & Trish following up on the job Morrison sends them on at the end of the base game.
Obviously, this never happened, but I loved the idea and though it would be the perfect concept to turn into a full game, so I thought I’d make my own concept just to see what people think.
There are rules that I’m going to follow:
  1. This game runs on the same engine as DMC5. Just makes sense.
  2. The game is not a full release, more of a huge expansion, I think this would help make the concept seem more plausible (Think the Miles Morales spin off game)
  3. The focus is to make a game fans of action games would appreciate.
Covering: Gameplay, Stages and Collectables
So Here We Go...
Gameplay:
Lady: Lady’s gameplay is very similar to how she played in DMC4, being a Gunslinger orientated playstyle, being able to charge attacks, using a grappling hook to close the distance on enemies and using her signature AOE attack. However she will now have more mobile with DMC5's increased mobility. But the more significant change is that in 4 Lady would use Kalina Ann as her melee weapon regardless of it being equipped or not, in LN, changing her fire arms will also change her melee button attacks depending on the weapon, this will give Lady 3 different attack buttons and allow for a massive expansion of her move set. Starting Kit: - Handgun & Skorpion: A blend of the handguns from SE4, and Ebony & Ivory from 5. - Shotgun: A Blend of 4SE and DMC5 shotgun, - Kalina Ann mk.III: Early on in the story, Nico will fix up a new version of which will result in a blend of the 4SE & DMC5 Kit. Unlockable: - Gerbera Ann - An attachment the Kalina Ann that gives Lady similar mobility to Nero in the air, allowing for her to create more space between her and her opponent. DT Gauge Moves: - Pipe-bomb Attack - Functions Identically to how it works in 4SE - Motorcycle - Lady will be able to summon her motorcycle and use it in combat similarly to how Dante uses Cavaliere in bike mode.
Trish: Trish will once again take the roll of a more expanded Swordmaster playstyle, being very up-close and personal during her attack, I like that she has no weapon switching and her combos are different depending on where the sword is, it's unique to her. There isn't a lot of significant changes I'd make to her base kit, more just iterate on what was already done in 4SE Starting Kit: - Alastor - A classic weapon returns to be Trish's standard sword. - Bare Knuckles - Trish's hand to hand weapon that functions similarly to 5's Beowulf but leaves a lightning trail behind them that can stun enemies. - Luca & Ombra - Trish's long ranged weapon. Very limited. Unlockable: - Nevan - Taking the place of Pandora from 4, Nevan will function similarly but with an entirely different kit. - Devil Sword Trish - Only be used while in SDT DT Gauge Moves: - Devil Trigger - Trish's classic DT returns once again. - Nevan AOE "Ride The Lightning" - Trish can supercharge Nevan an deliver a massive Lightning storm AOE attack. - SIN Devil Trigger - Trish gets her own SDT Gauge, activating it will allow any attacks from Devil Sword Trish to leave a lightning trail behind, also allows Trish to fly and use moves such as Air Raid and Vortex.
Lucia: Lucia is unlocked once the campaign has been finished, and functions similarly to Vergil in every SE release, in that she has limited additional story and can be used to replay through the campaign on any difficulty, as she is being reintroduced for the first time since DMC2, we'll need to rebuild her playstyle from the ground up. As Lady and Trish are both expansions on one of Dante's style mechanics I think it's fitting for Lucia to borrow from another of Dante's styles, so Lucia will be more Trickster focused, and rely on dodging an evading attacks and following them up with counter attacks, I'd even like to see her with her own rapid dodge mechanic similar to Dante's Balrog or Nero's Table hopper, I think she should easily be the fastest character in the game, and to tie her more closely to her game of origin I'd love to bring back interactable environments just for Lucia, so she will be able to run on walls. Swing on lamp posts and even recover from an attack by rebounding off a wall at her enemy. Weapons: - Cutlasser - Fast moving dual wield swords that allow her to deal damage very quickly, however damage is minimal. - Throwing Knives - Slower then most characters firearms, but they deal slightly more damage, and using them mid air grants an additional jump DT Gauge: - Devil Trigger - Lucia's Devil Trigger will allow her to warp straight to her enemies, similarly to Vergil. - Majin AOE - Can only be activated if Lucia has full gauge and is below 20% health - Bangle of Time - A gift from Dante that allows for Lucia to briefly stop time mid battle allowing her to overwhelm enemies with attacks.
Missions: - 12 Missions. 6 traditional DMC stages, 2 stages completely dedicated to boss fights, 4 open sandbox levels that can be explored by the player. This may seem a bit short but it’s to try something new and make the game a bit more focused, we also now don’t have to worry about too much recycled content. I recently bought a 1981 Honda Express SR. It looked kind of shitty when I got it, but most of them mechanical components seem to be alright. It ran as of ~2 years ago and has been sitting outside on the guys patio since.
There's some rust in the crankshaft but I'm guessing it's not too difficult to fix. I have the engine components taken apart from the frame and I'm doing some body restoration work to get the bike up to speed aesthetically.
It's a two-stroke engine. I'm going to go ahead and throw out the oil tank and just run premixed fuel for it. I have a carborator rebuild kit so I'm going to tear that apart and clean it and replace all the gaskets. Also ordering a new fuel line, because the existing one is dryrotted.
The oil was actually relatively clean. There was some goop at the bottom of the tank, but it was definitely not the worst I've seen. No obvious metal shavings or anything.
What steps should I take before I attempt to run the engine? Ideally I'd avoid taking it apart, but I can if necessary.

what’s good guys, i’m looking for ideas as far as a high compression n/a build. i’m going to get an itb kit but id also like some help on what to do as far as new pistons, boreing out the head etc etc. its gonna be my first engine build, im a total youtube mechanic but ive rebuild the rest of the car so far and i have a very good understanding of engines. im guessing i just need new piston heads, but that’s literally where im starting at. any ideas would be great guys thank you so much!

2024.05.17 02:57 reasonablemanyyc 2009 GTI - Valves hit the pistens. rebuild kit options.

Just bought a 2009 GTI for my daughter with a zero compression engine. Pulled the head off and its pretty clear the valves hit. Little to no damage to the pistens, sounds like it happened when the previous owner went to start it, but every exhaust valve is bent. They still move freely when pushing on the springs.
Looking at the amazon kit for rebuild or the ebay one.
We are in Canada, shipping is a bit of a pain for ebay ones out of the states. That being said the ebay one looks to be a lot higher quality. We don't need timing covers. The bolts also look to be closer to OEM.
Thoughts?

2024.05.17 02:00 _ak_ $10 mower update - what the heck now?

Earlier I posted that it wouldn't run, now it wont stop running. 😬
TL;DR
It doesn't matter if the ground wire from the ignition coil is grounded or ungrounded - the mower has spark in either case. Am I looking at a coil with an internal short?
Background and Problem
I've got a Lawnbow with a Tecumseh LEV120 engine. I picked it up as a project to get some experience rebuilding a cam/crank/piston before doing it for real on a motorcycle. I got it running again, but it will start without holding the brake handle, and will continue to run no matter what you do with the brake handle.
Some things I've Tried
I've had it completely apart, and the brake switch is fine. I read continuity on my multimeter when I test the switch and actuate it manually (i.e. its not the cable). In fact, if I completely disconnect the wire from the coil to the switch the mower will still run. When the mower is running I can take the wire from the coil and ground it to the engine, and it continues to run.
So I'm at a loss, it'll run no matter if the ground wire from the coil is grounded or not. Am I looking at an ignition coil with some kind of internal short?

Hello everyone. I have a 2007 F150, 189K miles that recenly started missing second gear and engine RPMs just went up when I pressed the gas. I had to let off the gas and about the 5th time reving it caught the gear and shifted normally. This event started happening about 5 times before I took to local tranmisson shop.
They said (without opening it, just a test drive) 2nd to 3rd is failing and transmission needs an overhaul kit. The overhaul includes torque converter and all the clutches and fluid exchange.
They quoted me $1500-$2000. $1500 if I paid in cash.
Update: 2yr or 24k miles warranty. Sorry forgot to include that. I hope they are not cutting any corners etc. Not using enough parts in the rebuild. But the warranty is nice.
Is this a good price for transmisson rebuild? Any other parts or services I should ask about?

first mini bike, won’t start
hey everyone, i’m new to the forum as i just purchased my first mini bike. and i’m already maybe wishing i bought one new. i bought this bike for 250. it has a 6.5 HP Tecumseh engine, not knowledgeable on them at all. but it started up great and i rode it when i bought it, but after getting her home and giving it a few cranks it won’t start. any advice ? i can’t seem to find any choke except a lever on the carb. when i pull start it, it spits some gas out of the carb per usual, it makes a squeak noise when pulled though. the fuel lines are a little leaky, could that be the issue? i watch fuel be delivered to the carb though when starting. i will provide any more info upon request please help a brotha out.

So i plan on rebuilding the engine (vq35hr)to be able to support a twin turbo setup but i find it hard getting a proper kit (crank pistons and connecting rods, fully balanced) without having to bore out the block i want to keep the bore and stroke the same so i dont have to take it to a machine shop and i believe i need to change the compression ratio to 8.25:1 but i need more professional help finding a kit that works
