2024.06.01 12:28 Arii_29 AITA for choosing my own happiness in my career field

I am 19F from India. My father passed away when I was 17, just few months before my highschool board exams. Even since that my relatives have become the unofficial moral polices in my life. They literally try to control every decision of my life. They question my choices, even what I buy or where I go. Short bg story : My father was a retired central government officer. I can say that my mother and I did not struggle financially after his demise, because we receive a decent amount of pension every month and have handsome savings, although emotionally we were crushed. My parents dated for 9 years and were married for 36. When I say the love I saw between them raised my standards sky high, oh I mean it. P.S.- I was adopted at 5 months, but that doesn’t make a difference. So, after I graduated high school I decided to pursue a degree in psychology because that’s what I wanted from my heart.( in my school days I may have wanted to become a doctor but that changed and I soon realised that job is not for me. So I worked hard and got into one of the top universities in my country(BHU). It’s a central government college so the fees is very low. I didn’t tell my relatives about choosing this career path cause why do I need to ? Right ? My mother supports me and for her my happiness is what matters to her. She says I rather choose a career I love rather than settle with a career I’m not happy in. I shared the news that I got into this prestigious college only after I got and my admissions were finalised. After they got to know that news, she were furious (idk why) and screamed at me that I was selfish for choosing a career like this. According to them I should have chosen a career like engineering or medical so that I can be established sooner( well it’s India. All they can think as a career option is medical or engineering). They screamed at me for being selfish and wasting my father’s hard earned money on some degree that’s gonna be of no use(dude my college fees is like 2000 rupees a year I.e. like 24 dollars). They were also angry with the fact that I moved out of state for college but I have much opportunities going to a renowned uni out of state and my mom is fine with it. But I also know it would have been good for my mother if I chose a career that got me established quicker. But the heart’s gotta do what it wants. I rather do something I love. And I know that career I chose requires an MPhil or PHD. So AITA for being selfish and choosing a career that I love?

2024.06.01 12:27 musicmiracles How matchmaking is supposed to work for duos queue ?

I'm quiet curious about how the game associate two players together for duo modes. I'm around 6k5 rating and I sometimes have awesome mates to play with. The game is fun whatever the position we end up.
Some other times, I'm paired with people who definetly are lower in skill than me. It's not much of a problem except when it ruins your entire game and fun.
I suppose my rating would induced I'm paired only with people like me who have a decent experience of the game (knowing all units, tribes, managing gold, passing your win conditions cards, etc).
I have to recognize it's not the case, I'd say 1/3 of the games I play I ended up with a mate way less skilled than me and it's frustating.
How do others players feel about that ? Do you also see your mates's skills fluctuating that much ? Isn't the matchmaking system supposed to avoid this problem ?
Thanks for your attention !

We have no Plan B if Ukraine falls, says Estonia
This tiny Baltic state, once a part of the Soviet Union, is convinced that once the fighting stops in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin will turn his attention to the Baltics, looking to bring countries like Estonia back under Moscow’s control. To help stave off that possibility, Estonia’s government has poured money and weapons into Ukraine’s war effort, donating more than 1% of its GDP to Kyiv. "If every Nato country did this," says Estonia’s steely Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, "Ukraine would win." But Ukraine isn’t winning. Short of artillery, ammunition, air defences and most of all, troops, Ukraine is struggling to hold back the sheer weight of Russian firepower, glide bombs and massed infantry assaults that often border on the suicidal. What, I asked Prime Minister Kallas, is Estonia’s Plan B if Ukraine loses this war and Russia’s invasion ultimately succeeds? "We have no Plan B for a Russian victory," she replies, "because then we would stop focussing on Plan A" - helping Ukraine push back the Russian invasion. "We should not give in to pessimism. Victory in Ukraine is not just about territory. If Ukraine joins Nato, even without some territory, then that’s a victory because it will be placed under the Nato umbrella."

2024.06.01 12:21 Zer0_Brew I look fat in shirts unless i use jackets and hoodies

I am 19 Years old, and i was extremely insecure and self aware of myself and weight for my whole entre life, leading me into a eating disorder and losing HUGE amounts of weight, today i am healthy once again (still underweight, around 68kg, 1.87cm, but in a healthy scale), i go to the gym 5 times a week and i stay as healthy as i can.
Here's the problem: i HATE looking fat, cuz that was my whole insecurity, and because of genetics and due to the fact that i used to be extremy overweight, i have really large ribcage and really broad shoulders, and to top it all off, quite the bad posture, even tho i correct it, i cant completly reverse it. And i look really fat in t shirts and shirts in general, unless i am wearing something heavy, that takes out that "fatty" aspect off the clothes. And Yes, i've tried EVERY type of fitting shirts and etc, and sure, some look better, but they all make me look fat.
I honestly dont know what to do, because it makes me look self conscious, and i know i cant change my bone structure, i dont go out in t shirts, i'm always wearing jacksts and hoodies, which sucks both in fashion and practice, since i suffer quite alot at summer days.
I'm sorry for my bad grammar and spelling mistakes, i'm actually brazilian (a tropical country, which again, sucks for me), it's just that this is a huge thing in my life.

🔴GO LIVE HERE👉 - UFC 302 Live Online
The UFC is at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, for Saturday’s UFC 302 pay-per-view card. In the main event of tomorrow’s UFC fight card, lightweight champion Islam Makhachev puts his title on the line against former interim champion Dustin Poirier. In the evening’s co-main event, ex-UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland meets former title challenger Paulo Costa.
Now, at UFC 302, Poirier carries a mantra: “Twenty-five minutes to finish the story.” He believes that a lifetime of hard work in MMA has led him to this moment. Undisputed gold awaits, and he’s determined to seize it. But standing in his way is a formidable opponent.
Islam Makhachev: The Pound-for-Pound Phenom
Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protege, has emerged as the UFC’s pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter. After submitting Oliveira to win the lightweight title in 2022, he successfully defended it twice in 2023 against then-featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Makhachev’s dominance is undeniable, and he enters UFC 302 with supreme confidence.
The Clash of Styles
Poirier’s aggressive striking and well-rounded skills will test Makhachev’s grappling prowess. Makhachev’s smothering ground game and relentless pressure will challenge Poirier’s defensive abilities. It’s a classic striker vs. grappler matchup, and both fighters know what’s at stake.
Predictions and Expectations
Makhachev believes he’ll beat Poirier “easy” on fight night. But Poirier is no stranger to adversity. He’s faced similar styles throughout his career and knows the mountain he must climb. Can he overcome the odds and dethrone the pound-for-pound king? Only time will tell.
Conclusion
UFC 302 promises fireworks, drama, and a defining moment for both fighters. Twenty-five minutes to finish the story – whose narrative will prevail? Tune in on June 1st to witness history in the making.

2024.06.01 12:19 Richard-P-Feynman Further thoughts on the Coffeejack, and comparison with the Flair Pro 2

I've been using both of these for a few weeks now, so here are some further thoughts.

Quality of Coffee

The Flair Pro 2 wins hands down. There really is no competition. The Flair produces much nicer coffee. You also get more of it. By comparison the Coffeejack produces comparatively "weak" or watery coffee, unless you restrict to very short, low volume shots. But then you've got to pull a second shot just to have something substantial to drink.
It doesn't seem like the Flair Pro 2 takes that much more coffee by weight than the Coffeejack. Sure it takes a bit more of a dose, but not by that much. Close inspection of the Coffeejack puck after pulling a shot suggests to me that water isn't filtering through the puck evenly at the top. It looks as if most of the flow is going down and around the sides of the puck rather than through it. This would explain why shots are weaker than I would expect. I'm not sure why this is the case. I suspect the basket design is flawed somehow and so it's easier for water to flow around the edges of the basket than through the puck. Strange.
The Coffeejack also "cheats" by using one of these valves at the bottom of the "portafilter" to restrict flow and increase pressure. Some people suggest removing this value. I probably agree. If you leave the valve in place it's very easy to end up in a situation where you can't get any flow at all, because the overpressure valve in the main body of the unit releases at a lower pressure than the pressure required to obtain flow through the portafilter.
To understand why this is the case, consider that the valve in the bottom of the portafilter requires X amount of pressure for coffee to flow through it. The puck itself requires Y amount of pressure. So if X + Y < Z, where Z is the pressure threshold of the pressure release valve, then you won't get any flow. (Disassemble your unit to find the black overpressure valve. It's hidden beneath the silver mesh screen at the bottom of the glass water container.)
Some versions of Flairs also have this restriction valve feature. I don't think units like this make very good coffee. Your grind size should be what creates pressure. It's easy to buy coffee with the right grind size, if you don't have a grinder. People can become excessively obsessive about grind size. It doesn't matter that much, as long as the grind is fine enough to create some pressure when pulling a shot, it's ok. A very large grind obviously will not work. The same is true for a grind which is extremely fine, because it will restrict the flow completely. But you can't buy coffee with a grind that fine anyway.

Burning your hands

It's easy to burn yourself with the Coffeejack. A flaw I did not fully realize until I started using it and wanted to pull a second shot after pulling a first.

Cleaning

It's easier to clean the Flair Pro 2. Cleaning the Coffeejack is a painful process, as is waiting for it to dry. The Flair Pro 2 dries quickly. You can also towel dry it. Good luck doing that with the Coffeejack.
The Coffeejack will remain wet internally for weeks. There's no way to dry it out inside without disassembling it.

Easy of use

Pulling a shot with the Flair takes some effort. You're going to have to use some arm strength to pull a shot with it. The Coffeejack is comparatively a low effort exercise, only requiring you to pump a small piston with relatively little effort. However this doesn't actually mean it's a better design, here's why:
The problem with the Coffeejack is it's extremely hard to apply enough pressure without releasing the over-pressure valve. This makes it frustrating to use, and in one of my previous posts I explained why doing this too many times might break it completely resulting in your having to re-assemble it to fix it.

Summary

In essentially all possible ways, the Flair is a better product. Just spend the extra and get the Flair.

2024.06.01 12:11 jc_jaezee Steady and Unsteady Differentiation

Steady and Unsteady Differentiation
Hello! I am currently a Bachelor's student in Aerospace Engineering and began my first course in Thermodynamics.
So far, I have the trouble of when to assume steady and unsteady system/processes (in some other countries, the term is stationary and instationary I think). I already know their general definitions. It is clear to me. But my problem is when to apply them to exercise problems as they are not explicitly stated. It would help quite a lot when writing out the power balance equation. Or the mass balance. But specifically the power balance equation. In Fluid Mechanics, the steadiness of a system will be explicitly stated.
Here is what I have obtained so far:
  1. Assume steady when not stated otherwise
  2. Closed systems / processes (a system contains processes; processes are the path between two states) are always unsteady
These two assumptions are made by our Tutor for Thermodynamics Exercises. However, I find these statements... Non-intuitive and not applicable.
Consider the 2nd statement where closed systems / processes are always unsteady.
Here is an exercise example:
Exercise Example
And here is the FULL solution for a) and the first part of the solution b), in handwritten form:
FULL solution to a)
FIRST PART of solution to b)
You can see that in part b), I have taken (this is just me copying the solution down) the power balance of the whole cyclic system. We can make two assumptions from this, WHICH ARE PROVEN IN THE LECTURE INDICATED BY A SCREEN SHOT OF A LECTURE SLIDE ON THE TOP RIGHT:
  1. Closed system mass flow is zero
  2. Cyclic process change in internal energy is zero
Again, because these are from the lecture and are proven in the lecture, I can TRUST these statements.
Now remember the statements of my Tutor? "Closed systems / processes are always unsteady".
If we look at [ FIRST PART of solution to b) ] we should not have d E_sys / dt = 0 , as by the logic and statement it is UNSTEADY. But the solutions show it is steady by writing d E_sys / dt = 0 ! This is quite the confusion.
BUT! I realized later that the reason for the " d E_sys / dt = 0 " is because of the cyclic process, where a change in internal energy is zero anyways.
However, let me apply the statement of "Closed systems / processes are always unsteady" further to a continuation of the solution to part b).
In this figure, you will see a continuation of [ FIRST PART of solution to b) ] which is MY WORKING based on the statement "Closed systems / processes are always unsteady".
CONTINUATION of FRIST PART of solution to b)
Here, I looked at process 4 1 which is an isobaric expansion, with heat transfer into the system. PB stands for power balance. I assumed no work was done on the system as it was not explicitly stated in the tasks (another question of mine, how can we assume presence of work? Because all compression and expansion are technically work on the system or to the environment right?).
You can see that my power balance does not equal to zero, but some delta U - a change in internal energy because I followed the statement of the tutor "Closed systems / processes are always unsteady". Note, the cancellation in orange of the kinetic and potential energy are allowed as even the lectuerer said we can neglect them if not further stated in the exercise at all.
Now here is the official solution:
Official solution of process 41
You can see the difference (they are in specific quantities, i.e. property per kg):
  • My solution: Δu = q41 + h4 - h1
  • Official solution: 0 = q41 + h4 - h1
I hope you can understand my confusion here about when to assume / apply steady and unsteady state assumptions.
Let me show you the exercise on which the tutor had stated the statement "Closed systems / processes are always unsteady":
Task 5.1: Otto Engine
Copied solution from the Tutor's transcript of solutions
You can see that in the figure [ Copied solution from the Tutor's transcript of solutions ], which is HIS solution in my handwriting, I wrote in red "closed system implied always unsteady". This was something I wrote down as a note for future reference. He did NOT write this down but he EXPLICITLY SAID this and can be proven through his recordings during the tutorial.
Notice how in the task there is not really an explicit statement about the system being steady or unsteady.
Now you know where I got the statement "Closed systems / processes are always unsteady" from which has cause this completely long confusion of mine of how to differentiate between steady and unsteady systems / processes. So naturally, from his other statement "Assume steady when not stated otherwise", you would put ΔU or ΔE to equal zero or d E_sys / dt = 0. But he did NOT and said that a closed process is always unsteady.
The other exercises (as the one I had shown above) had proved no use of the statement "Closed systems / processes are always unsteady" but rather "Assume steady when not stated otherwise".
I hope someone could clarify this for me and explain when I can apply the assumption of steady and unsteady system to ease my work with the power balance equation. Are there specific key words to look out for that imply steady and unsteadiness? Or do we have to know which devices or models and which part of their respective processes are steady / unsteady?
Thank you very much for taking your time to read this long post !

2024.06.01 12:08 highrollerdude7 Best online casinos Canada - top picks

Hey guys, I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about online casinos in Canada, saying they’re not as good as what they have in the states or overseas. Honestly, I think they are just playing at the wrong sites. I say this because that’s exactly what happened to me.
I’ve been playing at Canadian sites for over five years, but I wasted a lot of that time on casinos like Casumo (couldn’t win) and Yukon Gold (trash). There were a few others in there as well, but they were crap too.
Good news is, once I got sick of giving my money away, I found a few casinos that are actually worth a damn. Here’s my list of the best online casinos Canada players can use:
That’s it, that’s the list. Let me know if you have any questions about any of the sites.

2024.06.01 12:06 Delusional_Lynchpin- Would you be down for a 1-16 playoff format? (cross-conference playin tournament too)

Top 16 teams will match head to head brewing potential cross-conference rivalries. This to balance the West being way too overpowered 14-18 will be a cross-conference (if necessary) play-in tournament.
Crazy scenarios could happen like the Lakers and Celtics meeting in the first round somehow. Orthe Nuggets and Sixers meeting along the way (whoever wins gets to be the best Center)
I want this to happen for at least 1 season. Feels like it qould be a more validating championship.

2024.06.01 12:06 Takseen Thoughts on T2 missiles on the 0.432 patch

I tested these out in Skirmishes after researching them in my current campaign. As well as the Delta V and acceleration buffs from the previous patch, there were a few others changes more recently.
https://www.pavonisinteractive.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=29923
Poseidon missiles: High-DV Nuclear-Powered Penetrator with a smaller warhead. Python missiles: a 50kt nuclear missile that can be used defensively.
and
https://www.pavonisinteractive.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=29947
AOE weapons will now detonate when shot down by all PD (this represents them detecting the threat and detonating to cause damage before destruction, not the nuke going off in an uncontrolled fashion);
To test, I lined up 6 Monitors with 4x Missile bays vs 3 alien cruisers(the ones with 2x PD). Targeting Computer seems mandatory, otherwise bad RNG on alien ECM will lead to staggered missile firing and alien PD will intercept a lot more. (Sidenote, is there any visual indicator in the UI for when a weapon is stalled by ECM?)
The main deciding factors seem to be Ammo count and Delta V.
The Keelback and Harlequin missiles from the Hypergolic Penetrator group have base ammo counts of 12 and 16 respectively, so they fired enough missiles to overcome alien PD. However their damage is quite weak and their Delta V is low(4.1 and 4.5) so they take longer to arrive and longer to get a kill, leaving more return fire and more dead Monitors.
Acceleration just doesn't seem to be a useful stat for missiles/torps, even the Harlequins and Keelbacks couldn't retarget onto the other ship flying right beside the 1st target And you're generally launching so far away that higher Delta V will win over the early acceleration
The nuclear propulsion torpedoes, Athena, Ares and Poseidon are all excellent, with huge Delta v in the 9 to 18 range, and big enough warheads to kill very quickly with a few hits.
The nuclear missiles(Python) and torpedoes(Hades, Cerberus) failed to land a single hit. Even with the higher ammo count of the Python nuclear missiles(10), the triggered AoE causes them to chain detonate each other.
I've seen Poseidon named as the top T2 choice and I can see why.
I haven't unlocked the Shaped charge nukes yet for testing. Their early detonation would appear to be a benefit and not a drawback in theory.
Other thing I've been wondering is whether to swap a missile slot for 1 laser PD to stop some of the return fire. Even the most successful tests led to 4-5 Monitors dead from return torpedo fire
