2024.06.01 12:59 ThatCipher ThinkPad T460s getting way too slow. Tipps or upgrade recommendations?

Hi everyone!
I have an ThinkPad T460s which I inherited when my uncle died. Unfortunately this laptop has gotten way too slow and using it makes really no fun. I have a hard time to buy a new one / selling that laptop. I mainly use it for programming smaller stuff (Web, WinUI, Fantasy-Consoles) and I would love to use it to make music with Ableton on the go.
I wanted to ask if someone has experience with that model and knows what could help to improve the performance?
I thought of upgrading the memory since its only 8GB (4GB integraded + 4GB@2133MHz exchangable). I've found an "upgrade guide" from crucial and the best one listed on there is 16GB@2400MHz. I mean the capacity is obviously way better but does 2200MHz -> 2400MHz make any significant change? I cant find anything on how big the clockspeed cap is for the motherboard - can I even go higher than 2400MHz? I also found this with 16GB@3200MHz which is even a little cheaper but its non-ECC. Does anyone ever heard of integral and know if their memory is any good? I don't want to spend money on something that barely change anything...
But maybe I am completely wrong with upgrading my memory? I have no idea. I really hope I could make this Laptop usable again. I really want to keep using it when I am on the go...
Thanks for any help in advance!

2024.06.01 12:58 teabagandwarmwater Can a Husband take from his Wife's Money?

By Asma Bint Shameem
A woman is NOT “obligated” to give anything of her salary or her own money to her husband or contribute anything to support the household expenses.
A woman’s money is hers. And no one has the right to it except her own self. That’s one of the basic rights that Islaam has given women, along with her right to inherit, own property, run her own business, vote, etc.
And that’s what distinguishes Islaam from others religions.
But if she does decide to contribute to the household expenses or anything else for that matter, out of the goodness of her heart, without any compulsion, then that would count as sadaqah on her behalf and a gesture of goodwill. And a means of rewards for her from Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala.
That’s because it’s the MAN’s responsibility to provide for his wife and family. And NOT the wife’s.
The MEN are supposed to support the wife financially and spend on them in the mahr and on their maintenance, food, shelter, clothing etc.
🍃 Allaah says:
“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allaah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means.” [al-Nisa 4:34].
It’s an OBLIGATION placed on the husband by Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala Himself.
🍃 Allaah says:
”the father of the child shall bear the cost of the mothers food and clothing on a reasonable basis. No person shall have a burden laid on him greater than he can bear.” [al-Baqarah 2:233]
🍃 And Allaah says to the MEN:
”And if they are pregnant, then spend on them till they deliver.” [al-Talaaq 65:6]
🍃 The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said in his Farewell Sermon:
“Fear Allaah with regard to women, for they are your prisoners. You have taken them as a trust from Allaah, and they have become permissible to you by the word of Allaah, and they have the RIGHT to be FED and CLOTHED reasonably by you.“ (Muslim, 8/183).
Being supported financially by her husband is one of the BASIC RIGHTS of the wife.
🍃 Muaawiyah ibn Haydah radhi Allaahu anhu said:
“I said, O Messenger of Allaah, what is the right of the wife of any one of us over us?
He said: That you should FEED her as you feed yourself and CLOTHE her as you clothe yourself, that you should not say to her May Allaah make your face ugly! and that you should not beat her.” (Abu Dawood, 2/244; Ibn Maajah, 1850; Ahmad, 4/446).
🍃 Shaykh ibn al-‘Uthaymeen said:
“The husband is OBLIGED to spend upon his family, upon his wife and children, on a reasonable basis, even if the wife is rich.
Yet he has NO RIGHT to TAKE ANYTHING from her salary, not half, not more or less.
The salary is HERS, so long as it was stipulated in the marriage contract that he should not prevent her from teaching and he agreed to that.
So he does not have the right to take anything from her salary; it is HERS.“ [Sharh Riyadh as-Saliheen (6/143, 144)]
So if he’s obliged to SPEND on her, how can he take from her money?
🍃 The scholars said:
“The basic principle concerning any wealth the wife owns is that it belongs to HER and not to her husband, whether this wealth came into her possession by means of trade or business, or through inheritance, or as part of her mahr (dowry) or from the state. The husband does not have a share in any of that; rather it is her property and none of it is permissible for him unless she gives it to him willingly. If it were the case that the husband owned his wife’s wealth, then his wife’s entire estate when she died would go to the husband and no one else would have a share in it, and that does not happen according to the laws of Allaah. Based on that, the money that comes to this wife as assistance for her from the state belongs exclusively to her and it is not permissible for her husband to take control of it.
It is not permissible for the husband to take anything from his wife’s wealth except what she allows.
Allaah, may He be exalted, says:
“O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade amongst you, by mutual consent” [an-Nisa 4:29]
“And give to the women (whom you marry) their Mahr (obligatory bridal money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage) with a good heart, but if they, of their own good pleasure, remit any part of it to you, take it, and enjoy it without fear of any harm (as Allah has made it lawful).” [an-Nisa 4:4]. We have discussed the evidence from the Quran and Sunnah and scholarly consensus that proves that the husband is obliged to spend on his wife according to his means; he does not have the right to force her to spend on her own maintenance even if she is rich, unless she agrees to that.” (Islamqa Fatwa # 163541)
And Allaah knows best.

2024.06.01 12:54 madssaysugh Where all of the “good” nannies have gone. My Roman Empire.

TLDR: Nannying is a very hard job. There would probably be a lot more nannies who work as hard as one needs to do this job well if the pay matched the value and difficulty of the work.
I’ve been pretty active in this sub lately because I’ve been feeling unhappy at my job and it helps to have a community. I wrote this a while ago and have been nervous to post it but I think it’s important. I saw a post in nannyemployers asking where all of the “good” nannies have gone and this was the response I was writing until I realised the replies were to be from NP only.. I would post in the nanny employers sub if I weren’t terrified of the response. I know I’m singing to the choir here and I know saying it out loud doesn’t change much. But I am so, so angry, so imma just send it.
As a nanny who has two college degrees, practices Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and RIE, and as someone who has always loved and wanted to work with kids, there simply is not enough money in this career path to stick to it. I personally simply cannot rationalise doing the amount of physical and emotional work that is required for me to do this job as well as I want to for the typical pay, even though I absolutely love it.
For my background, experience, and approach, I am in a severely underpaid position (even when disregarding my qualifications it would still be severely underpaid.) Because of my personal and financial situation at the time of my job search, I did not have the luxury to wait for a unicorn family to offer me the salary I was looking for. I found a family that was a good fit and accepted the position even though I felt it was very much underpaid. I am now in a position where I am continuously battling wanting to work as hard as I can for these kids and this family, and realising I can’t break my back for them while being this underpaid (I mean I literally threw my back out during this job). I’m not someone who breaks a commitment easily but I guess I could move from family to family, waiting to find one who is able to financially match the value of this work, or I could stick it out and get $2/hr raises every year, but I can’t wait 10 years to finally get close to being paid what I know a proper nanny is worth. Yes there certainly are some nanny employers who properly respect this work and are able to financially meet it’s value, but in my experience they are few and far between. I have found that the overwhelming majority of nannies are severely underpaid and overworked.
Nannies are asked to have flexible schedules, work long hours, take on a laundry list of responsibilities, develop personal emotional relationships with children that aren’t theirs while keeping a professional distance, pay for and organise their own continued training, be emotionally and socially engaged with children all day long, and more. But above all, the most important aspect of nannying is managing our stress is such a way that allows us to stay in an executive state of functioning all day every single day. People deeply underestimate and undervalue the amount of hard and constant work it takes to keep oneself in an executive state of functioning day in and day out, especially in a high stress position where you are helping other people regulate their bodies all day on top of yours, AND are constantly sick and tired and being pushed and tested. I think that this ability is what makes the difference in a “good” nanny and is often the most overlooked, misunderstood, and undervalued aspect of the job responsibilities.
I want to be a good nanny, it’s my dream job to be the best nanny there is, and I used to think that I could accept being in an undervalued role because “it takes a village” and I wanted to do my part and this was my passion. But it doesn’t feel good to be undervalued financially and socially, in fact it feels really really bad, and this is why I will no longer be pursuing a career as a nanny. Even if I found my unicorn position, it wouldn’t change the fact that the overwhelming majority of my nanny peers are still underpaid and undervalued, and that doesn’t feel good. It makes me want to leave, and I think all of the other underpaid nannies should leave too. (We need a union or something, is this a thing?)
The market is oversaturated and undervalued. Not everyone needs a nanny now that quarantine is over (a full-time nanny, not babysitter or after school care). I have both worked at a preschool and as a nanny and I have found that a setting with multiple children of similar age is far better developmentally for a child than spending most of their time with a single adult and a sibling or two, even for young babies. I think a healthy mix of a daycare setting and family time at home is probably best but can be the most difficult to achieve with the current work culture. This is no one’s fault, the overworking culture is a burden of late stage capitalism that we all face. However, it is the burden of the parents to solve their work/life balance. This is a very big part of what one signs up for when becoming a parent. It is not the burden of the nanny to work more for less or the children to miss being with their parents (I’d say two doctor NP are pretty much the only ones who’d get a pass here).
It’s no one person’s fault that nannies are financially undervalued, the value of personal childcare and domestic work has a long saturated history fraught with misogyny and racism. Have you compared the average wage of a plumber (male dominated domestic work) to that of a nanny (female dominated domestic work)? And don’t tell me plumbing requires more training or is harder than nannying, I assure you they are of comparable difficulty especially considering there’s no step by step instructions on YouTube for nannying. (And if you do consider plumbing to be that much hard than nannying, what do you think gives you that perception? I mean as a parent, one should know that nannying absolutely is not just playing with kids all day, even if that’s all you ask your nanny to do. What subconscious bias could be giving you the perception that bringing up children is less difficult and of less value than screwing pipes together? Have you seen The Help? Don’t answer, just think.)
Plumbers make average $28/hr in the states, mechanics $26, for nannies it’s $20 (and that’s being generous). That’s a ¢70 on the dollar comparison. It is time we all realise that nannying is an underpaid and undervalued role and work to change that. If the wage being offered across the board better matched the value of the work, I think one would find a lot more serious nannies and a lot more current nannies taking the job more seriously.
I didn’t get it at first, why so many nannies at the park seemed so burnt out and disinterested in the kids. Oh boy do I get it now. I want nothing more than to do my best in this role, but in the past few months after nearly being stiffed by NP, not receiving a bonus from them when I really thought I would, and overall realising I am being taken advantage of and am a human mine to them, I have realised that I can no longer put my all into this job for my own health and sanity. Being properly compensated is the primary motivating aspect of all work especially in the society we are a part of. After loosing my sense of respect from NP, I’ve lost most of the non-financial motivation I started out with and am left with what little motivation my petite pay check gives me, and the kids can tell.
Since my fallout with NP, I have pulled back emotionally from the kids. I’m not mean and I am still doing every responsibility in my contract to the letter (and then some still), but I am no longer as emotionally available to them as I was. I am shorter and more curt with them, I don’t take as much time with them to sit and talk about every feeling they have, and I’m not working as hard to help them break the bad habits NP give them that NP specifically ask me to break (one example - NP want NK to walk everywhere with me but then always use the stroller with NP and every time we go out it’s a fight to use the stroller or not. Guess who’s been using the stroller far more often lately). Anyway, the past week my NK 3f has been quietly crying before her nap and I’m sure it’s because she’s felt me pull away from her. It’s breaking my heart and I’ve been trying to give her extra cuddles, but I have to protect myself first now. This is a job and these aren’t my kids and I can no longer rationalise putting them first emotionally especially considering I am burnt TF out, torn down, and left feeling used up and tossed aside without any recognition or proper thanks for NP.
I don’t know what the perfect number is, the number I would say many NP would probably think is too high, and maybe they’re not looking for a nanny who works as hard as I and others do. But I can tell you that $17/hr before taxes in a VHCOL area does not even come CLOSE. I think we can all easily recognise that the financial value of this job needs to better match the value of the work, in general and across the board. We’re talking about the people caring for and raising the future generations here, I mean how is this not the most coveted role in our society?
This is my Roman Empire and I will die on this hill every. single. time.

2024.06.01 12:41 Proud_Ad694 AITA for reporting a crime my friends committed?

Going anon as my friends might know my main account: I (23F) have two friends from college, let's call them Alia (23F) and Ben (23M) who are also each other's best friend. Alia is French (we met through an international student group) and Ben is American, this will be important. Alia's family is rich and she sometimes acts kind of spoiled, always talking about all the places in the world she has visited without thinking about how that makes people who haven't had those opportunities feel, and using her money to take shortcuts like the rules don't apply to her. After graduating Alia wants to apply for a career pathway in the US that only takes US citizens and permanent residents. Even though there is no green card backlog for Europeans and US immigration openly favors them (compared to people from my country who they treat almost like a criminal/potential illegal immigrant from the get-go), so she could just work for a few years and get a green card then apply to this pathway, she does not want to wait that long so she convinced Ben to go into a courthouse green-card marriage with her so she could get it in 1-2 years instead. They openly tell their friends that it is a green-card marriage, even asked me to be a witness to their fraudulent marriage which I said I couldn't be part of and strongly recommended against going through with it (they ignored my advice).
This kind of behavior makes me really angry. People cutting in line just make the line longer for people like me working really hard to do it the right way. They talk a big game about "privilege" and "social justice" but then jump at a chance to use their privilege to get ahead at other people's expense. I didn't tell them but I filed a tip about their marriage to USCIS. I was also worried that if they get caught USCIS could potentially find out that I knew about and didn't report it which might endanger my own chances of getting a green card. AITA?

2024.06.01 12:36 Silent_Doughnut_1864 The last moment together with a life long crush didn't end well. I just wanted to tell her how I feel, maybe she will see and read this.

She probably will never see this, then again I could be wrong. I kind of hope she does so I can say some of what I wanted to say, but instead we ended up arguing over things that are really not important and I wish I could take it all back.
In High School it started and I never told anyone, not even my best friend. You were the one, the girl who was in a relationship, the crush I always wanted, the one I wanted to marry and spend my life with, to treat with the most genuine respect and to love and cherish. The problem was you were taken and I respected that line, most people don't. Yet life just kept moving forward. I come to find years later that your life has been filled with trauma, neglect, abuse, filled with drama and hate, being used and taken advantage of. The things I would never let happen to you or do to you were happening or had happened, and it breaks my heart to see you so different than the one I knew all those years ago. But deep in there it's still you and I hope that I may one day bring you back to happiness and to keep a smile on your face and to show you how much you are loved.
After 20 years we found each other living together albeit briefly after some difficult and unexpected times. I tried to tell you how I felt, you didn't want to hear it. And then we did something together I never thought would ever happen, and it was something I had hoped would happen for so long. I will always remember it and think about it everyday, how incredible it was and how it still could be. Even the first time our lips locked I was in complete ecstacy, the way you kissed me was something passionate and real, not just another kiss. You really are amazing and so beautiful and I wish we could continue to become something more. Something beautiful. Something forever.
I didn't want to leave you but I couldn't stand being thought of as just someone else there to use you. I would never hurt you. I tried to find the words, but you shut me down, you distanced yourself from me, that hurt. I know things are tough and I was willing to do everything I could to help.
Maybe I sound like I am rambling now but just know this. I am sorry for how I left, for leaving you alone, for everything wrong that I may have done. I just want you in my life, by my side. Maybe one day that will happen but it is something you need to figure out. I will continue to wait for you. If you will have me, come to me. You'll be safe and respected, loved and appreciated. For now, I am setting off on the hunt for more money, to give myself a fresh start and that also includes you, as I told you during our time together. My hand and heart will be waiting for you to take.
Find me. Message me. Email me. Call me. Anything. I want to make you happy for the rest of our lives.
I'm sorry J. I miss you. I want you with me. I want to hold you, hold your hand, to love you, to kiss you, to be the one you deserve. Hopefully we will find each other again. For now, just know im there thinking about you, waiting and going to do everything I possibly can.
Me.

2024.06.01 12:35 Top_File_8547 r/commercialsihate why?

I generally just tune out commercials I don't like. Commercials are how most media are financed. It is just a fact. Sometimes I am entertained by the creativity that goes into even dumb commercials. The Cheez-it commercial with the guy slaloming down down the hill and gradually losing all his clothes except of course his underwear is dumb but I am impressed by the imagination of someone coming up with that idea.
I don't see why people invest so much energy into hating something that is a part of life and necessary to support most media. I would create a subreddit commercials I find moderately annoying and tune out. Of course nobody would post to it because nobody would care enough.
There is one commercial I do hate which are the Lumé commercials. This conwoman has created a new thing for women to be insecure about that any healthy woman with decent has no need for. It's working because now the traditional deodorant companies are pandering to it. While sad I have no problem with them coping it because any dollar they make is one that sociopath does not make.
Another I don't actually hate but find deplorable are all the gambling app commercials. It's just getting people to throw away their money and exploiting people with a gambling problem.

I recently got my hands on the Denix Replicas 1081 Walther P. 38 Automatic Pistol and I have to say, it's a real treat for history enthusiasts! The detailed recreation of this iconic WWII weapon is impressive, and it's not just for show. It's heavier than one might expect, which gives it a solid feel in the hand. The pistol-like click of the slide and the smoothness of the mechanism make it a joy to handle, even if it's not fireable.
However, there are some minor drawbacks, like the fact that the slide doesn't lock back and the magazine can't be removed. But considering this is a replica for display purposes rather than practical use, it's not much of a hindrance. It's a conversation starter and a great way to add a piece of history to your collection.

I recently had the pleasure of getting my hands on this book, "The Colt M1911 . 45 Automatic Pistol: M1911, M1911A1, Markings, Variants, Ammunition, Accessories [Book]". Being a gun enthusiast, I was eager to dive into the world of this iconic pistol.
What stood out to me was the detailed information on the M1911's design, manufacturing, and testing. The book takes you on a journey through its combat use in various wars, with more than 370 images that provide a visual breakdown of the weapon. The serial numbers list and the visuals of the weapon's markings were particularly fascinating.
The section on accessories like magazines, ammunition, holsters, and cleaning kits was a nice touch, adding to the overall comprehensive nature of the book. I found the combat-related uniform and equipment items to be of special interest.
However, one drawback I encountered was the inconsistency in the captions of some photos. I was expecting a more complete reference on some of the markings and stampings. Despite this, the book still managed to impress me with its wealth of data and images.
Despite its relatively short length, "The Colt M1911 . 45 Automatic Pistol: M1911, M1911A1, Markings, Variants, Ammunition, Accessories [Book]" is a must-have for anyone interested in the history and development of this legendary firearm. The high-quality images and detailed information make it a valuable addition to any library.

The Ed Brown 1911 housing is a fine example of the dedication to precision and quality that makes this brand stand out. As a seasoned gun enthusiast, I've come to appreciate the meticulous attention to detail that goes into crafting these firearms. With this product, I especially noticed the superior components and expert machining that made the gun feel smooth and well-balanced. The mag well housing, in particular, added an element of sophistication to my 1911 replica.
While the Ed Brown 1911 housing is an excellent choice for those seeking top-notch performance, there are a few potential downsides to consider. One is the price point, which may be prohibitive for some users. Additionally, while the housing is designed for durability, it's essential to take proper care of it to ensure its longevity. All in all, the Ed Brown 1911 housing is an exceptional product that delivers on promises of quality and craftsmanship.

This "Basic Field Manual" is a fascinating look into the history of the United States War Department Automatic Pistol, Caliber. 45 M1911 and M1911a1, providing a unique insight into the mechanics and usage of these iconic weapons. Despite being a facsimile reprint, the book offers an authentic experience, with its antiquated charm showcasing imperfections like marks, notations, and marginalia. The pocket-sized field manual, measuring at 9 inches in length and just a quarter inch thick, is perfect for on-the-go reference.
The language is crisp and clear, making it easy for anyone to understand the intricate details of the pistols. It also comes with detailed diagrams, which make it easier to visualize the workings of the weapon. Although the book's condition might not be ideal, the information it provides is invaluable for any collector or history enthusiast.
Overall, this "Basic Field Manual" might be flawed in appearance, but it's well worth the read for anyone fascinated by history or military firearms.

🔗World War I and II Era 1911 Webley Revolver Replica

As a history buff, I was drawn to the Denix Webley Revolver replica, with its ties to the Indiana Jones movies. The first thing that struck me was its weight, which made it feel like a real gun. The details were incredibly accurate, right down to the checkered grip and the engraving on the barrel.
However, I found it a bit disappointing that the break-open action didn't work. It may be a minor issue for some, but for me, it took away a bit of the authenticity.
Nevertheless, it's a great display piece and does justice to its historical origins.

🔗Patriotic 1911 Replica Model with Blue Pattern Grips

This "Uncle Sam" miniature model is an incredible tribute to the USA, perfect for those who want to show their patriotism. As I slowly started putting the pieces together, I found the assembly process to be surprisingly easy and enjoyable. The 1:2.5 scale model is a fantastic representation of the iconic 1911 pistol, with authentic features such as working thumb safety, slide actions, and magazine release.
The model's realistic design caught my attention right away, from its Old Glory Blue pattern grips to the intricate details on the closed barrel. It's clear that the creators paid attention to every aspect of the gun, ensuring that this replica is as accurate as possible. However, the hard-to-find bullets might be a minor inconvenience for some users.
Overall, I'm impressed by the quality and attention to detail of this miniature 1911 USA tribute model. It's a unique and fun addition to any collection, and the ease of assembly is a big plus.

2024.06.01 12:30 Silent_Doughnut_1864 The last moment together with a life long crush didn't end well.

2024.06.01 12:19 Life-Proposal-2054 Does anyone knows where I can get a student loan here in ph?

Help me out. I'm on a tightrope right now. I still have a huge balance in my account, and I won't be able to enroll for the next term if I don't pay it off. I'm already stressed thinking about where I'd get the money. My parents are struggling to make ends meet each day, and they also don't want me to do part-time work. This is the only way I know to pay off my remaining balance – to get a student loan. You may ask how I'll pay for it, but I'm planning on having a part-time job or doing some commission-based work. I want to get a student loan without my parents knowing about it. Does anyone know where I can get one without involving any parental information or something? I want to keep it a secret so they don't get stressed about it. It's the only way I can think of to help my parents a bit.

2024.06.01 12:14 Similar_Set_6582 My account was banned from TV Tropes. Can someone do me a favor?

Just copy this, paste this into a sandbox, then make a thread in the Trope Repair Shop linking to it. The thread shall be titled "Needs Help: Inexplicable Language Fluency".
A wick check for InexplicableLanguageFluency.
'''Why?''': InexplicableLanguageFluency seems to lump in examples of characters demonstrating fluency in a language they've never learned with examples of characters merely understanding a language they never learned. For one, it doesn't make sense for the latter examples to be there since the title has the word "fluency" in it. Secondly, many of the latter examples can be moved to BilingualDialogue or AmplifiedAnimalAptitude.
'''Wicks checked''': 50/72
'''Wick totals''':
* 21/50 wicks, or 11.5%, were clear examples of a character demonstrating fluency in a language they never learned. * 24/50 wicks, or 12% were examples of a character understanding a language without demonstrating fluency. * 4/50 wicks, or 2%, were written in a way that made it unclear whether they were being used correctly. * 1/50 wicks, or 1.5%, was an aversion.
[[folder:Characters demonstrating fluency in a language they never learned (21/50)]] * Characters.AtlantisTheLostEmpire: The Atlanteans are able to fluently communicate with the explorers from the surface in English and French. This is handwaved as their own language being a precursor to all other languages. * Characters.YaBoyKongming: ** Kongming finds himself immediately fluent in Japanese despite having never learned the language, and the Japan of his era was still a dwarf country that mostly only sent envoys to Shu's rival kingdom of Wei. Eiko points out the absurdity of how an ancient Chinese figure can suddenly speak Japanese, and Kongming himself is at a loss of how he can do this. * Characters.YellowjacketsCrashSurvivors: [[spoiler:She, and by extension others in the Antler Queen cult she forms, randomly speak French on occasion, which Lottie at least is ''not'' fluent in, indicating mental instability.]] '''If this is supposed to be an inversion, it's correct, but it should be rewritten to mention that it's an inversion.''' * ComicBook.Asterix: Gauls can speak to most foreign peoples without any difficulty. Either everyone can speak Gaulish, or the Gauls can speak other languages, but either way is downright impossible. * ComicBook.UltimateFantasticFour: ** Downplayed. Namor demonstrates this trope after spending nine thousand years of being sealed inside a sarcophagus prison. Being from an ancient civilization of Atlantis that predates the modern English language, he initially has no idea what his new captors are saying when they find him. However, thanks to his psionic powers he proves to be a frighteningly fast learner and is able to learn English within an hour to understand modern American English and casually deliver threats and demands. ** Happens again when the Four meets the Silver Surfer who is able to understand English perfectly the instant he arrives to Earth for the first time. He justifies this by stating can decipher electromagnetic signals in the air to learn alien tongues in seconds. * Friends.TropesFToJ: Zig-zagged. "The One Where Ross Can't Flirt" has her speaking with Joey's Italian grandmother, with Phoebe seeming as surprised about this as Joey. But in an earlier episode, Rachel's former lover Paulo calls her "bellissima" and she doesn't understand. ->'''Joey:''' Wow, Phoebs, you speak Italian?\\ '''Phoebe:''' Apparently. * Film.ExorcistTheBeginning: In-universe, the main characters note Cheche's sudden fluency in English after being brought to the hospital. Of course this is because it is Pazuzu speaking through him and not actually Cheche. '''This is DiscussedTrope, not InUniverse'''. * Film.{{Phenomenon}}: Downplayed. After a UFO encounter, George gains a form of superintelligence where he can learn complicated tasks and subjects quickly, to the point where he's able to fluently speak Portuguese after reading an English-to-Portuguese dictionary for twenty minutes. This was foreshadowed in an earlier scene where after usually fumbling to speak Spanish, he's suddenly able to speak it perfectly, to the point that his Hispanic coworker half-seriously declares that it's better than his. * Literature.ForgottenRuin: When Talker and Vandahar speak during the final stretch to the Hidden Cave, Vandahar speaks in what we would recognize as modern German, which of course makes communicating with him very easy for Talker but raises a few questions. * Literature.InCryptid: Of the GeneticMemory version. When Candice the Dragon Princess comes up against the LizardFolk wandering about the New York sewers, she's able to make them halt using a guttural language. She reveals to Verity that it's a inborn language all Princesses know and something the "Servitors" are meant to respond to. She's also never used it before as Servitors can only be created from a [[spoiler:living male dragon]]. * Literature.SeasonalFears: Aven is essentially in a coma all her life but, thanks to the alchemical knowledge tinctures of her father', she speaks perfect English even if there are some issues with definitions. * Literature.ShiversMDSpenser: Bubbie moves to France with her family and meets a new French kid, Jean-Luc, and can somehow converse with him without any language issues; at the end of the story she can hold a long conversation with a stranger in French, despite spending less than a week in the country. Previous books with an overseas setting will at least attempt justifying this trope (for instance, ''Terror on Troll Mountain'' has the protagonist's Italian family choosing to speak in English because they're anticipating American guests) but this one handwaves the issue until it's a borderline plot hole. * Recap.AsterixAndTheGoths: Getafix is able to speak fluent Gothic, despite being a Gaulish druid who has no logical reason to know it (especially considering how antagonistic the Goths are in this story). * Recap.FriendsS5E19TheOneWhereRossCantFlirt: Phoebe speaks with Joey's Italian grandmother, with [[InexplicableLanguageFluency Phoebe seeming as surprised about this as Joey]]. '''Joey:''' Wow, Phoebs, you speak Italian?\\ '''Phoebe:''' Apparently. * Recap.TalesFromTheDarksideS4E6TheGraveRobber: Aileen is surprised to hear Tapok speaking English when he wakes up, the mummy giving an offhand mention that he can speak the language of anyone who violates the tomb. * Roleplay.WanyaKingdomVSAwoofyUnity: Fragment has been shown to speak any language even if he has never heard it before. * Series.{{Llanargollen}}: In "Dirgelwch y Llyfr Coll", Prys and Barti speak to each other in Swahili. It seems incredibly unlikely that Prys would be fluent in that language, and Barti only speaks in unintelligible grunts with individual words thrown in. The other characters barely react to this. * VideoGame.EternalReturnBlackSurvival: The test subjects are able to work together with each other in spite of how one would presume that the vast majority of them would be completely unable to verbally communicate with most of the others. {{Averted}} by some of the achievement lore entries, which include statements observed from test subjects that some of which have a note underneath which states the words were translated by AI and will be reviewed and localized further in the future. '''Since this seems to be an implied example rather than a straight example, and it seems to be ambiguous InUniverse whether it's this or BilingualDialogue, I'll leave it here.''' * VideoGame.MegaManBattleNetwork2?: [=MegaMan=]'s translation system allows Lan to speak flawless Netopian after they arrive in Netopia. * WesternAnimation.{{Pocahontas}}: English explorer John Smith meets the alluring Pocahontas of the Powhatan tribe. Smith doesn't know her language, nor she his. That is, until Pocahontas takes a breath of magic wind. Suddenly, her English is better than his. [[/folder]]
[[folder:Aversions (1/50)]] * DarthWiki.{{Aquilaverse}}: ''Averted'' Not inexplicable, since her spell "Xenographus" let's her read any language she encounters for a limited duration. [[/folder]]
[[folder:Unclear (4/50)]] * Characters.FrightKrewe: His power makes him this. He has the ability to communicate with anyone and understand anything they say, whether its a [[InexplicableLanguageFluency person]], an [[SpeaksFluentAnimal animal]], or an [[NatureSpirit 'elemental entity']]. '''The way the example is written, it's not clear whether it's this or BilingualDialogue.''' * Recap.CreepshowS1E3BadWolfDown: Doc is shown to speak French and understands the language quite fluently, allowing him to translate the explanation of the werewolf woman's plight. '''You can't "understand a language fluently". Does he ''speak'' it fluently, or at least speak it better than he should realistically be able to?''' * Series.AlloAllo: Frenchmen, Germans, and Italians can talk to each other. This is never explained. '''In their own languages, or...?''' * WesternAnimation.SpaceChimps: The [[SpeaksFluentAnimal aliens]] and [[InexplicablySpeaksFluentAlien chimps]] understand each other, despite that the chimps have just arrived on their planet. '''Just checked and the sloth doesn’t say “I don’t know”, it just grunts with an intonation that indicates that that’s what it was saying. So, not fluent in English.''' * Tarzan.TropesGToZ ** Played straight when Jane talks to a baby baboon and he understands her. * TotalDrama.TropesHToP: Some wild animals--especially squirrels--can understand humans. * WesternAnimation.FindingNemo: Dory understands English. The fish in the tank understand English because they've been hearing humans all their life, but there's no reason for Dory to understand English. [[spoiler:Subverted in that ''WesternAnimation/FindingDory'' reveals she was raised in a marine life institute in California.]] '''Since it says “understand” and not “speak” I can only assume this is a case of TranslationConvention and AnimalTalk, which means they aren’t actually fluent in English.''' * WesternAnimation.SpiritStallionOfTheCimarron: Spirit, despite not having had any human contact before his capture, understands what the human characters are saying. Later, upon meeting Tsuyoshi Kondo after Eiko's performance at the Yoyogi Art Festival, Kongming easily translates his GratuitousEnglish for a confused Kobayashi, and he's even become friends with a foreigner in Roppongi, who speaks exclusively in English.
2024.06.01 12:11 teabagandwarmwater Can a Husband take from his Wife's Money?

2024.06.01 12:10 Similar_Set_6582 My account was banned from TV Tropes.

'''Does one of them speak the other's language, or do they just understand each other's languages?''' [[/folder]]
!!!'''Characters being able to understand a language without demonstrating fluency (24/50) 12%''' [[folder:Amplified Animal Aptitude (7/50) '''3.5%''']] * Literature.MrsFrisbyAndTheRatsOfNIMH: The animals can understand humans and each other, but can't talk to humans. This leads to a bit of FridgeLogic as to where exactly all these animals picked up English (justified for the rats, as they were taught it in the lab, but not for any of the others), and whether they can understand other human languages automatically as well. * Recap.TheSimpsonsS6E6TreehouseOfHorrorV: When Homer is sent back in time to a prehistoric era, and has to avoid stepping on anything to change the future, he ends up swatting a mosquito then asks for reassurance that it won't change the future. He is understood despite being in an era before English existed, since a sloth behind him shrugs and grunts as if to say "I don't know." * TheSimpsons.TropesIToM: ** In "Treehouse of Horror V", when Homer is sent back in time to a prehistoric era, and has to avoid stepping on anything to change the future, he ends up swatting a mosquito then asks for reassurance that it won't change the future. He is understood despite being in an era before English existed, since a sloth behind him shrugs and grunts as if to say "I don't know." '''Just checked and the sloth doesn’t say “I don’t know”, it just grunts with an intonation that indicates that that’s what it was saying. [[/folder]]
[[folder:Bilingual Dialogue (11/50)]] * Characters.MashupWeekMegamixCompetitors: Despite the fact that all 3 members speak different languages (English for Scoop, French for Eric and Italian for Baba), they can be understood by each other and by others easily. * Film.NoTimeToDie: James Bond's 5-year-old daughter, Mathilde, understands English even though her mother Madelaine speaks to her in French and all the media she consumes is in French. * Film.Titanic1997: Jack and the Swedish men understand each other well enough that Olaf is able to bet his tickets for all Jack and Fabrizio's money. * FinalFantasyXIV.TropesGToI?: ** In ''Heavensward'', the Warrior and Alphinaud are startled by how they can understand the great wyrm Hraesvelgr, who only speaks the language of dragons. They learn that while other races may not speak the dragon's language, the inherent power and magic in a dragon's song essentially beams meaning directly into the hearer's mind. ** The Scions are shocked in ''Shadowbringers'' when they meet [[spoiler:Emet-Selch's recreation of the lost city of Amaurot, the home of the BenevolentPrecursor race. One of the few supernatural parts of the setting is that [[TrappedInAnotherWorld Asuta]] can understand its inhabitants' language (almost) perfectly. Nobody knows why, nor do they ever find out; it's essentially one of the AcceptableBreaksFromReality needed to get the plot going. * Literature.{{Fablehaven}}: After receiving magic from fairies, Kendra gains the ability to interpret their language intuitively despite never actually learning it. * Manga.MiriyaAndMarie: Aside of occasional GratuitousFrench, Miriya can understand all French and animal characters and vice versa. Blackey also tries to charge Miriya for massage in yen despite being French. * VideoGame.KnightsOfTheOldRepublic: Yes, your character understands plenty of languages, but there isn't anyone who ''should'' understand the language of the AbusivePrecursors. [[spoiler: Subverted. Turns out you'd been there before and learned the language, but just forgotten the whole thing between Malak's backstab and whatever the Jedi did to "rebuild" you]]. '''When moving this to BilingualDialogue, I would rewrite it as “Your character understands plenty of languages, but can only speak one.''' * WebOriginal.MashupWeek: In both tournaments, Flat Eric speaks French, but everyone can understand him perfectly. Same with Gigi, who speaks Italian. * WesternAnimation.JosieAndThePussycats: ''[[RecycledWithAGimmick In Outer Space]]'' has Melody encounter an alien creature that looks like cotton candy with eyes and flippers. The critter speaks in a series of bleeps, and Melody names him Bleep. [[InexplicablySpeaksFluentAlien She can also understand him perfectly, and acts as translator for everyone else]]. '''I also think InexplicablySpeaksFluentAlien should be limited to people actually speaking Alien instead of just understanding it, but that’s for another time.''' [[/folder]]
[[folder:Other (6/50)]] * Characters.InfinityTrainSeekerOfCrocusMultiverse: Upon looking at some files from the old phone Oscar picked up, he's somehow able to read ''Aztec glyphs'' just by looking at it. However, like any other product, it does have a small downside. The clip might take some getting used to, as it's a little bigger and wider than what most users would prefer. But it's a small cost to pay for a product that performs so magnificently.
In conclusion, the C&G's Universal single mag holder is a top-notch product that delivers on its promises. It's a reliable and efficient accessory that makes holstering and retrieving your magazines a breeze. It might have a minor issue with the clip size, but overall, it's a must-have for anyone who wants to ensure their magazines stay secure and easily accessible.

Made of strong aluminum, it's a perfect fit for your Walther PPQ, making magazine swaps a breeze. Plus, this magwell works with both steel and polymer frames.
While it has its perks, there are a couple of things worth mentioning. First, be aware that this magwell doesn't work with PPQ Sub-Compact or PPQ45 models. Second, it may have fitting issues with some extended magazines. But overall, it's a reliable addition to your shooting setup, and you'll appreciate the extra boost it provides to your aim.

I recently had the chance to try out the Wilson Combat Magazine Well Stainless Steel 1911 Magwell, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer in my shooting experience. The magnetic well is incredibly sturdy, and it's made entirely of stainless steel, ensuring its longevity.
One thing that really stood out to me is the enhanced magazine compatibility the magwell provides. No more fumbling around to get the right fit - this magwell seamlessly fits most magazine designs, making it a breeze to reload.
However, the installation process could be a bit tricky for beginners. It was a learning experience, but with the right tools and a bit of patience, I managed to get it working smoothly.
Overall, I'm really happy with the performance of the Wilson Combat Magazine Well Stainless Steel 1911 Magwell. The improved magazine loading speed and enhanced compatibility make it a worthwhile investment for any serious shooter.

🔗Intelligently Engineered Canik TCS Compact Magwell

I recently added the Canik TCS Compact Magwell Black to my 1911 handgun, and let me tell you, it has made a significant difference in my daily shooting experience. The sleek, black design not only looks impressive but also provides excellent grip and support while I'm on the range. The ergonomic shape of the extension makes it an absolute game-changer during long shooting sessions, preventing hand fatigue and ensuring a more comfortable hold.
However, the TCS Compact Magwell Black isn't without its drawbacks. I've noticed that the weight distribution of the handgun has shifted slightly, making it a bit heavier overall. Additionally, the black color tends to attract dirt and dust more easily than other materials, requiring more frequent cleaning.
All in all, the Canik TCS Compact Magwell Black is a high-quality extension that enhances both the aesthetics and functionality of my 1911 firearm. Despite the added weight and maintenance considerations, I would definitely recommend it as a worthwhile addition to any 1911 enthusiast's collection.

🔗Si STRIKE80 Magwell for Strike 80 Compact Frame Kit

https://preview.redd.it/0224z5ynpx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2887ababacd1dc1e5cd03ba6e812fed7f0b8b0eb
In my quest for the perfect magwell, I stumbled upon the Si STRIKE80 Magwell. With a sleek finish in black, it added an aesthetic charm to my Strike 80 compact frame kit. The fit was impeccable, with the magwell allowing my PMAGs to nestle flush against it, making the gun feel more refined.
However, not everything was smooth sailing. On a few occasions, I faced issues with the magwell. Sometimes, I found it hard to seat the base plates of factory mags securely. It seemed like the magwell's design could have been more compatible with the base plates, resulting in a suboptimal user experience.
Despite this, the Si STRIKE80 Magwell had some redeeming qualities. For one, it was a reliable magwell that didn't affect the functionality of the gun. Furthermore, it added a certain cool factor that matched well with the Strike 80's compact frame style.
Overall, this magwell did its job when it came to accommodating the mag. However, the slight inconsistencies in its compatibility with base plates warranted some consideration. If you can overlook this issue, the Si STRIKE80 Magwell might just be the piece missing from your Strike 80 setup.

I've been using the Wilson Bullet Proof Magwell Full SS for a while now, and I must say that it's quite impressive. This one-piece magwell is crafted from solid billet and CNC-Machined, making it durable and robust. Its stainless steel finish adds a touch of class to any 1911 pistol.
What I really love about this magwell is its large internal opening. It ensures a smooth reloading process, making it perfect for competition or carry. The low profile, radiused outside contour is ideal for both. However, it does require some fitting to blend with pre-beveled frames.
The variety of grip shapes available, along with precisely machined checkering, allows for a perfect match with your pistol. It's also compatible with most fine custom handguns. The flat mainspring model drops into most guns, while round butt models need frame contouring.
Overall, despite the need for some fitting, the Wilson Bullet Proof Magwell Full SS is a top-quality product that enhances the functionality of your 1911. It's definitely a worthwhile investment for those looking to improve their pistol's performance.

Recently I added the Reptilia Black Hole Poly Magwell to my trusty GLOCK - a game-changer for my reloading skills. It fits seamlessly with both Generation 3 and 4 frames, a true all-arounder.
One of the standout features is the use of impact-modified reinforced nylon, and of course, it's made in the USA. It's compatible with 9mm and. 40-caliber GLOCK pistols but does not work with 10 round factory Glock magazines; however, it's perfect with Magpul 10 round mags. This magwell has made a notable difference in my shooting experience and I find myself reaching for it whenever I grab my GLOCK.
It's been a reliable addition to my kit and highly recommended for GLOCK owners.

I recently got my hands on the Magwell for SCT19 Polymer Glock Gen 3 Frame. As a gun enthusiast, I was intrigued by this accessory and decided to put it to the test in my daily life. The first thing that caught my eye was its sleek, outdoor green finish. It complemented my Glock perfectly and added a touch of class to my firearm.
Using this Magwell, I noticed a significant improvement in the speed of my reloads. The ergonomic design allowed for a smoother movement, saving me precious seconds in critical situations. However, I did encounter a slight snag in the process – the Magwell wasn't quite compatible with my specific model, causing a minor inconvenience.
Overall, the Magwell for SCT19 Polymer Glock Gen 3 Frame proved to be a reliable addition to my firearm. The speedy reloads it provided and the stylish finish it came with made it a worthwhile investment. But, I would urge fellow Glock users to double-check the compatibility before making a purchase to avoid any potential issues.

🔗Zev Technologies PRO Mag-well for 1911 - Enhance Shooting Consistency and Speed

Zev Magwell Pro has been a game-changer for me in my daily gun training. I love the flared, slightly wider design which aids in a smoother, faster magazine insertion. The lightweight aluminum construction feels sturdy and reliable, yet doesn't add any bulk to the Glock's balance.
Installation was straightforward, even for a gun novice like me. The lack of set screws for a flush fit on the backstrap is a minor drawback, but it's not a deal-breaker. The improved reload speed and additional comfort it provides make it worth the small inconvenience. I highly recommend the Zev Magwell Pro to anyone looking to elevate their Glock's performance.

Buyer's Guide

When it comes to optimizing your 1911 handgun, there are a few key features you should be on the lookout for in a magwell. The magwell, or magazine well, is a modification that increases the speed at which you can reload your gun. It also makes it easier to grip and insert the magazine, crucial in high-pressure situations. In this buyer's guide, we will discuss important considerations and general advice when purchasing a 1911 magwell.

Importance of Material

https://preview.redd.it/pzvp0pbrpx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1b63274990f88c7ff8681a3a3e33343aa5ee166
The magwell is often made from lightweight materials such as aluminum or carbon fiber, but it can also be made from steel. While steel may be more durable, it is heavier and could potentially slow down your draw. Consider the weight and the balance of your handgun when choosing the material for your magwell.

Size and Shape

One of the primary benefits of a magwell is the ease of magazine insertion and retrieval. Therefore, the size and shape of the magwell will impact its efficiency. Some magwells are designed to be larger, accommodating longer magazines or allowing for a quicker reload. Ensure that the magwell you're considering complements the height of your magazine and matches your personal preferred shape for grip comfort.

Choke Ports

Choke ports or adjustable choke tubes are sometimes integrated with magwells as part of a multi-functional kit. Choke ports provide the ability to alter the angle and tightness of your shotgun barrel, which can be advantageous for various shooting scenarios. Consider if you want these additional features or if you prefer a magwell strictly for the purpose of speeding up your reload time.

Integration

Avoid magwells that require extensive modifications or replacement of existing parts of your handgun to mount. The magwell should ideally be compatible with most standard 1911 frames and be easy to install. Check the manufacturer's specifications or consult user guides to ensure compatibility.

Price

There are various price points for 1911 magwells, reflecting differences in materials, functionality, and design. Consider your budget and ensure that the magwell you choose aligns with your expectations and requirements.

Reviews and Ratings

https://preview.redd.it/4v2jtj4spx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c19e7f20a435052fcf9885e24767f768be1e2c8d
As with any purchased, it's always a good idea to read reviews and gather insights on the quality of a 1911 magwell before making your decision. Reviews from gun enthusiasts and experts can provide valuable feedback on the durability, efficiency, and overall performance of the magwell.

Final Thoughts

A well-designed 1911 magwell can significantly improve the performance and efficiency of your handgun, especially in high-pressure or competitive shooting scenarios. When selecting a magwell, bear in mind the material, size and shape, integration, price, and reviews. With the right magwell, you can elevate your handgun to an optimal level for competitive performance or personal defense. Happy shooting!

2024.06.01 12:02 Gloomy-Beginning-218 Wizard tries to murder another party member in their sleep, fails, apologizes, then creates a new character and then attempts the same thing again.

Context: This was one of my first online games as a DM. I ran a campaign with the typical "necromancy magic is seen as bad" trope due to massive events in the campaign world (that led to the first Lich being created and using the war between 3 nations to fuel his undead army, until all 3 nations realized the threat and banded together to defeat the army of the dead and supposedly destroyed the Lich). With that knowledge in mind, one player asked to create a school of necromancy wizard (tiefling). I said sure, but let them know that if they were to use necromancy within a village, town or captial city that it would draw attention to them and most likely result in their character being arrested, or even attacked. The player said they were fine with that, but asked if they could be Lawful Evil. Now, this should have been the first red flag for this player, but I said that I would allow it but only if their actions didn't directly target or effect the other player characters. They agreed.
Now to give some more context, the other players character's consisted of:
I mentioned to the Wizard player that the paladins might not be pleased with their character if they witness them using necromancy, again, to which the wizard player said that would be fine. The second red flag was the wizard's backstory. One of the major NPC's in this campaign was a High Elf Prince, who was a powerful Archmage and a hero to the elves (inspired by Teclis from Warhammer), and the player wanted to include this NPC in their backstory, but frame the elf prince as a villian, having him mysteriously kill off the tiefling's adopted father. Now, I should have suggested perhaps another NPC of less significance to the world to take his place, but I thought, "what the hell??", I could throw an interesting twist on it and have the wizard's foster father actually be a bad guy. So, I let it be.
Onto the story: The party were in the Elven captial city when the wizard asks me as one of their "errands" that they want to visit the slums of the city. So they travel there and the wizard sees a bunch of dirty kids playing together. The wizard then walks over to a halfling girl, and begins to mesmerize her with prestidigitation effects. He asked about her quality of life (I thought he was going to give her some money or something like that), so she shares with him that she is an orphan and lives on the street. The wizard offers her food and says that if she comes with him, he will give her a better life and teach her how to use magic. Now at the time, I wasn't sure what his intentions were, so I was being very cautious in this moment, so I asked him to roll an insight check as she was looking at him with doubt in her mind. He succeeds and I share that she has doubts about his sincerity. I ask him to roll a persuasion check with a 20 DC and he makes it with a high roll. So, she agrees to go with him on the promise that he teaches her magic. When the wizard returned to the party, they were surprised and not very keen on having a young girl accompany them for their next adventure, but they allowed it after they made the wizard promise to keep her well out of harms way when danger arises.
The party arrive at the entrance to a long, and fairly dangerous dungeon crawl. In the first battle encounter, the wizard tells his "apprentice" to attack the nearest enemy instead of running away, like the party had agreed on. Now the "apprentice" isn't able to do much (as a lvl 1 wizard), and is subsequently attacked and falls unconcious and the party began to panic. The party were able to swiftly defeat the remaining enemies and heal the halfling girl. Now, when she came to, she was terrified and had a full on panic attack and wanted to leave after almost dying. The party agreed that she should not be with the party and should return to her home. This angered the wizard (and the player), who was not pleased when the party all voted to send her home. They were able to do so as another NPC was accompanying the party, and they escorted the girl back.
Now comes the kicker. The wizard player dm's me and says that he is not happy with what happened. I tell him that I had already spoken to him about the other player characters possibly not agreeing with his decision, and that the wizard was "okay with that". The wizard player doesn't reply. So I thought that the matter has been resolved. NOPE!!! Out of nowhere, the wizard states that during the night whilst on his "watch", he casts mold earth multiple times during the night and burries the oath of ancients paladin alive (as he was the voice of reason that was consistantly raising the fact that the halfling girl would not be safe). Now by this point in the session, the majority of the players as well as myself were quite frustrated with this player, as he had tried to meta before and say things like, "it would work in real life" when he attempted to turn events in his favor over and over again.
I told the group that we're going to take a 10 minute break before anything else happened. I spoke with the oath of ancients paladin player and asked him what his opinion is on the matter was and if what he thought I should do/should I even allow the wizard to attempt it? The oath of ancients player says that he was happy for me to let the wizard try as if they failed and the paladin would quickly "solve" the issue.
So I messaged the wizard player and confirmed that they're certain that they want to still try it. They agreed confidently and stated that mold earth was "a somatic only cantrip" and that the paladin "won't even know that I'm casting it until their suffocating under the ground".
I messaged the group and asked them to come back to the discord chat and we jumped back in. I asked the paladin to roll a perception check, setting the DC at 10, as I reasoned that the paladin would still feel the earth being molded over and around them. The paladin rolls a natural 20. So the paladin awakens, and sees that the wizard is trying to smother them. The paladin player attempts to intimidate with the wizard and convince them not to "test his patience", but the wizard player was furious and was trying to make up more excuses on how the perception roll should have been at disadvantage.
I stated that my ruling stood, and asked them what they want to do, to which the wizard left and never returned.
I had a long conversation with the wizard player after the session and explained that I did warn them in advance that the other player characters might not agree with their actions. The player seemed strangely calm and collected and asked if they could create another character to replace the tiefling wizard (this should have been the 3rd red flag). I agreed but specified this time that necromancer and evil alignment was off the table this time. The player agreed and then createed a high elf blade-singer wizard (and min maxed it as much as they could). They gave this new character a compelling backstory and I was pleased with it. So the next session, I introduced their character to the party (the party had left the dungeon to find safety and heal the halfling girl before sending her home), and the first thing the player does was declared that they moved to attack the oath of ancients paladin, as soon as they saw him.
Dumbfounded, I ask him why? He respond with, "the paladin threatened (name of the tiefling character) and I take threats deadly seriously".
IMPORTANT NOTE: This was not in the backstory that they provided me with! And I mean, not even the slightest hint, nor was it eluded to!
I pause the game and ask the wizard player to join me in a seperate chat, and asked them how could their new character possibly know who the paladin was and how they would know the tiefling, as the two characters had never met. He said that they would have passed each other and he would have shared it with this stranger. To which I said, yeah no that's not what you sent me and you're not just gonna change your backstory on the fly just so you can attempt to kill the paladin. He got incredibly angry and started yelling about me not letting him play his character how he wants to play them.
The conclusion: So to wrap up this long post. The player apologised to the group, asked for one more chance as he like the group. I asked the others individually what their thoughts on it were, they agreed to give him one more chance, so I did. And then 3 sessions later, that same player attempted to attack the ranger because he made a funny comment about the tielfing wizard (all in character). After that final straw, the player was subsquently removed from the campaign.
On a happier note: This campaign has been running for almost 5 years now and is beginning to come to a close as the players are level 19 (soon to be 20) and have accomplished incredible feats in the world.

2024.06.01 11:57 nncn6 Did I make the right decision to break up with my bf?

I need advice regarding my relationship and decision that I’ve made. I want to know if I made the right decision. I (21f) met my (25m) bf at a tobacconist. He approached me and was very polite and asked for my number and if he could take me out. I asked him about his age and if he works because these are important things for me to know before even giving out my number. He answered and said he wasn’t working at the moment because he just got out of house arrest and I asking him if he’s not working, how will he take me out? He told me money isn’t an issue he’s just not employed. I got what he was trying to say. He took me out on a date and it was perfect. He was polite, sweet and a gentleman. It felt like love at first sight for me. We began dating and then he got arrested near my street when he came to drop off a motorcycle to someone and then came to see me. At this point, I knew him for 5 weeks in total and we spoke about a lot of things and I told him hypotheticallly if he was to be locked up again I would hold it down for him. I don’t think he believed me at the time I told him but when the situation arised, it wasn’t even a question for me and I did hold him down. It took a few weeks for him to get processed and call me. I wasn’t sure if he even wanted to be with me anymore. Right after his arrest, I tried to track him down to which jail he was at and sent him letters with words of encouragement and reassurance that I am here for him as promised. In those three weeks of no contact, I also got his BPAY details to put money in his account and have been this whole time. Around $30-$50 per week. He usually spends that money to call me twice a day for 15 minutes per call. Sometimes he calls me 3 times a day. In the weeks where I couldn’t send him money, he never asked for money but I realised the calls were only once a day as he was trying to space out the calls for the week as he was low on money. Still, he never asked me for anything. He’s always given me reassurance during the 6 months he’s been inside and speaks to me kindly and gently. When we do have issues, usually on the first call he will say something that’s not quite right and upset me but always fix it by the second call when he’s had time to think about it. I’ve felt lucky af to have him because he’s been the most sweetest and romantic person I’ve been with yet. All of his friends know bout me and message me when it comes to important information regarding his trial. His mum has also confided in me for the last 6 months and has told me that I’m like a daughter to her (although in the last 1 month she’s ghosted me). I had a face to face visit with him last month because his mum took me with her and it felt amazing to be able to see him and hold him. He has lied to me about a few things starting off with his ethnicity. When I met him he told me he was two different ethnicities but I later came to find out drop his mum that he’s actually 100% Indian and doesn’t have any roots of those other two ethnicities. His mum showed me her entire family as proof and his dad’s family. His mum has also warned me numerous times to break up with him because he’s been in and out of prison since he was 20 and every time he says he will change but he doesn’t. He’s also gotten expelled from school so he never finished school either. He has never had a normal job but has been making money in other ways so money isn’t an issue. I also think he might be addicted to drugs but I am not sure. He has gotten people to transfer different amounts of money into my account and for me to transfer them to other accounts. I did become suspicious of what’s going on but I kind of turned a blind eye to it and told him he better not be making me do something I shouldn’t be doing. He’s always told me if i don’t want to do it it’s totally fine and he can get someone else to do this for him. I am confident I am the only girl he’s talking to as I can book visits every week and I can tell other people are not really visiting him except his sister and mum sometimes and his mum’s also given me reassurance that he is talking to me only me and that when it comes to relationships he is soft hearted. I also do think he is soft hearted. I have experienced a lot of adversity from people and people definitely have looked down on me and have told me all sorts of negative things but I tried to stay strong and stay in the relationship. I have always brought up with issues and we have fixed them. Anyways, he gets out in 10 days and last week I went on to reddit to read peoples posts about dating someone that’s in prison and it scared tf out of me when I saw that all this sweet romantic talk is just “prison talk” and that they will switch up once they come out. I have sent him lots of pics of me too and I saw other people talking about how they sell and trade photos of women and I think I know him enough to know he respects me to not do that to me but all of these things just freaked me out. I am really scared of getting hurt so I tend to withdraw from relationships because the other person can leave me or hurt me to leave him. I know it’s something I struggle with but I have held it down for 6 months even though I only knew him for 5 weeks prior. I have tried to support him in every way I can and I have never missed a call from him. I am not strong enough to break things off over the phone because the calls are timed and I am afraid that if he does give me reassurance over the phone rn it’s probably “prison talk.” I would never ghost him or not give closure so I sent a message to be passed to him to his friend. In the message I basically talked about the reason why I’m leaving is because i don’t think he loves me and probably only feels so strongly about me because he’s in jail and all he’s got is time so now he’s infatuated with me but when he comes out that may change. I don’t want to hold him to promises he’s made while being in there and I don’t want to subconsciously force him to be with me I did write all that in a panic state. Anyway, I think he got the message. He did try to call me a few times after he got the message and I didn’t pick up. I love him a lot so deep down I do want him to try and prove me wrong and give me reassurance that it’s not just prison talk and that he does love me and want to be with me. He’s always made it clear he loves me over the phone. Do you guys think I made the right choice and that if he truly does love me, he will understand how I have been feeling on my end? It’s very difficult to be a loved one of someone that is incarcerated. You feel lonely and always in an emotional roller coaster. I stuck through and didn’t abandon him during his sentence but now that he’s coming out, I’ve kind of just set him free so he doesn’t feel guilty about treating me differently when he comes out if he realises his feelings are not as strong as they were once he was locked up.

2024.06.01 11:49 Advanced-Sink-775 I thought looks are everything

I regretted all and my mess up mindset. I thought looks are everything actually it isnt, i used all up in my ability to fix my looks i invested a lot of money (actually it helps me lot that people say i look better than before) but i wasted a lot of opportunity all because of my shit personality, mindset, ass brain that couldn't take any hint from girl.
I thought woman would confess to me thinking because (I HAVE A LOOK! IT DOESN'T MATTER WOMAN WOULD CONFESS TO ME ANYWAY) what a shit brain im so dumb thinking looks are everything they shit fucked me up straight manipulated me.
So i observed every people especially the low class looks (pls dont attack me) even tho they are not even handsome and not tall they still bagged a straight beautiful women, im literally confused how those people still pulled girls even tho they are not even allat because i keep thinking looks are everything.
So then i observed their popularity on the media, I was so shocked to found out some of low-class looks are so popular and some of the good-looking people aren't popular. I am so confused how does this happen, so then on i got into deep thinking and eventually realised looks aren't everything its about connection to inner light or straight up to point personality. I befriended with popular low-class look, he is actually cool and fun to be with i can hang out to him every day! So next i befriended with handsome guy but isn't popular, he is very tiring to hang out with even hes cute his personality just mess it up i don't want to hang out with him again.
I investigated a lot more things to confirm but all to my conclusion looks is just like a expensive skin in a game, the opponent will think you are a good player because of the expensive skin you have, but it doesn't change your ability to play better also but it does make the game easier (yk why)
I learned that take a courage to everything, be a man who takes a lead and always spread out positive energy, then woman will find you attractive and social life will be easier.

2024.06.01 11:26 RamsinJacobRealty August 17th - The Real Estate industry is going to change dramatically for the consumers

For those who have been following the mass media headlines and don't have much experience with the real estate industry in CA, they assume:
The list of claims from the novice public population goes on and on...
First and foremost, commissions have ALWAYS been negotiable. In all the new contracts coming to the state of CA, you will see this written repeatedly, so much that it will become embedded in your mind.
The NAR lawsuit, was nothing but a pure money grab by attorneys. Anyone with actual knowledge of the case and what's happening will tell you the same thing. Why do I say that? Well, for starters, the plaintiffs in the case all have a common theme - They signed a listing agreement. On those listing agreements/contracts are the terms, commissions, etc. We are all grown adults, if you cannot read the terms of a contract you are physically signing, that's a problem. If you cannot comprehend the terms of the contract you signed, that's a problem. If you don't agree with the terms and conditions of the contract you signed and you did not speak up to either question, counter or negotiate it, that's a problem. To then go an file a lawsuit because you did one or all of the above, is the definition of contradiction. That's what happened in the case. It was a quick open and close, attorneys saw the big dollar signs and moved it along without any proper defense from the defendants. When you sign an agreement/contract, you are acknowledging that you reviewed and accept EVERYTHING in that agreement/contract. There's no going back on an agreement, unless there's a specific term written into the agreement, likely would state an addendum would need to ratified by both parties to change anything.
So what's the results?
The ruling stated that the MLS needs to remove the buyer's agent co-operative compensation from the MLS. In Real Estate, specifically in California, you don't see 6% commissions, I've been in Real Estate nearly 10 years, do business in the Bay Area and LA, I've never or heard 6%. 5% has been the norm and commissions have ALWAYS been negotiable. The structure of commissions thus far have been the listing agent and seller agree on a commission that's compensated to the listing agent and to the buyer's agent - but the listing brokerage technically is collect the entire amount and distributing the buyer's agent commission to the buyer's brokerage at closing. So for instance:
So now, that the buyer's brokerage co-operative compensation will not longer be a thing, the public thinks buyer's agents are suddenly going to be working for free or a very low amount. Real Estate agents are independent contractors, we don't make any money unless we close transactions, there's many fees involved which the public are unaware about & no, good agents are not focused on the dollar amount, they are focused on volume and doing right by their clients.
Sellers will still be able to compensate a buyer's agent, no one can tell a seller they can't. The structure of how it'll be processed slightly changes. There's various ways, which I won't go into in detail here and share my strategies since there may be other agents lurking here. These strategies, along with other new practices is what's going to separate the agents who stay in the business and the thousands who will be moving onto other endeavors.
Moving forward starting August 17th - Those buyers out there who don't commit to an agent and want to pull around multiple at a time, those days are done. One bad practice that majority of agents have is they never developed proper execution of the buyebroker representation agreement. Whether it be non-exclusive or exclusive, majority of agents never implemented it and the public didn't know anything else on how business is suppose to run. I sit on the minority side of agents who actually does implement the buyebrokerage agreement. August 17th, every single agent will have the specific policy that they need to sign agreements with every buyer they work with. Every buyer out there, before you can even go look at a house, you need to sign an agreement with an agent. A buyer won't be permitted to see a home without an agency agreement. This is all thanks to the lawsuit settlement.
This makes it more difficult for the buyers at the end of the day. Why? To begin with, a buyer needs to find an agent and commit to them. With the agreements that buyers will have to sign, there will specifically be a section regarding the compensation due to the buyer's agent. You as the buyer will technically be on the hook of that compensation to your buyer's agent, if the seller is not willing to compensate. There are various strategies here which a savvy and experienced Agent can ensure their buyer clients won't need to come out of pocket to compensate the buyer's agent for their services, again, these strategies is what's going to separate the majority of the agents from the ones at the top.
There's additional conversations and paperwork that needs to and will be made at every initial conversation between a buyer and their potential new agent. Along with listing agents and their sellers. The groups behind this change want to believe this creates more "transparency" in the Real Estate business. It actually does the opposite. It becomes a huge unknown and guessing game about compensation to agents from the buyer perspective and also sellers. Buyers will be going into the process unsure about whether or not they will need to end up paying their buyer's agent or will the seller be able to cover the fees from the proceeds. Sellers will not be sure about how much they can potentially be netting from the sell of the property, because a buyer's agent with the best offer could be requesting either a very high or standard commission. There's no improvement towards transparency in this. We're literally going backwards in the industry. This is what so many people just don't have any idea about.
The structure of commissions is just one area of change we are going to experience. Open houses will be different, every buyer will need to sign an acknowledgment document upon entry. Sellers may offer "concessions" - so that's the new word instead of "commissions". Literally the industry is going through technical changes with procedures and contracts which at the core does not improve anything for the consumers. I guarantee more people will feel frustrated and confused about buying or selling with these changes coming soon.
Again, commissions have ALWAYS been negotiable. Redfin has always had their low cost services, which don't produce good results, as a seller, you leave well over $100k on the table. As a buyer, you won't know what a great agent experience feels like. Along with those flat fee services, those are even worse. Attorneys are out there too, all they do is push paper along, that's it. They don't have a clue about Real Estate. All of those services have always been available, if they were any good, it would have taken over the industry a long time ago. Clearly, it's not. Just remember, like anything in life, you get what you pay for. Don't expect to have great service and low ball your agent. There's no sense to battle over 1% of agent fees, when the agent is going to be making your life easier throughout the process, negotiate on your behalf, cover all your bases to minimize potential legal troubles and provide the highest level of advisory. The great agents out there, are well worth what they request for compensation. For years, I've been negotiating deals for my buyers $100,000 - $250,000 below seller's desired prices on average. I jump through hoops of fire for my clients to serve them as best as possible, working around the clock, at all hours, matter of fact, it's currently 2:37am as I write this... And for my sellers, I have been negotiating sales on their property anywhere from $100,000 - $500,000 above their expectations (not list price, big difference, a list price is nothing but a marketing strategy, keep that in mind). I specialize with investments, have been doing this for nearly a decade. Time and time again, I've located deals for my investor clients/partners which literally no one else saw other than myself. I say that with full confidence, backed by facts. There's been many deals, sitting on the market, available for anyone to purchase, available to negotiate to the best of your ability and no one did so, no one saw it, other than myself. Which resulted in significant profits within a short amount of time. The ability to foresee the future value of a property in the market is not something anyone can do. The ability to envision a renovated property from a torn down home, is not common.
When you break it down, the agent fees are minuscule in comparison to what a great advisor is able to do.
