I was looking at some other posts and wanted to add my personal experience to clear Dave’s name. My friend told me about this Reaper sandwich from Dave’s, said he had it before months ago, signed the waiver and everything and that it wasn’t even spicy. We’re both enjoyers of spicy foods, and I had only tried Dave’s once, so I wanted to test that and we decided to both get Reaper sliders to try at the same time. I thought sweet heat would be a nice flavor so I put some honey packets on it and took a bite. At first, all I tasted was the honey and delicious chicken, but then the Reaper busted down the door. Not even 10 seconds after chewing, my nose was running, eyes watering, and the inside of my mouth felt like a nuclear explosion went off. My friend attested that this was exponentially hotter than the last time he ordered it and we quickly had to pour up some milk for relief, we ended up finishing the whole carton. I ate the entire sandwich with the aid of milk, without it I don’t think I could’ve finished. Afterwards, I could still feel the Reapers presence, my digestive tract felt like it was trying to process hot lava. Fast forward to now as I’m writing this in bed, can’t sleep with some of the worst stomach pain I’ve had lasting for hours, comparable to an awful hangover. I saw some other posts speaking on the inconsistency of the spiciness, and I’ve had ghost pepper products before, but this was another beast. I’m guessing they changed the recipe up since my friend had a different experience prior at the same location, or it could’ve depended on whoever prepared it, but to summarize Dave’s Hot Chicken Reaper Tender is no joke.
TLDR; my friend said it wasn’t spicy from his experience, we ordered it again and consequently both suffered the wrath of the reaper

Hi all. I feel terrible. On holiday with my husband and we ended up on a night out with the hotel staff and a group of tourists! Usually we are sensible enough, but somehow we both ended up so drunk we can’t remember a lot of the night. The worst hangover ever. My husband actually woke up with thorns in his leg and I have two bruised elbows. So embarrassing!
Anyway, on the walk home from the bar I was at the back of the group as I was stumbling all over the place. I vaguely remember getting stuck at the back with the chef who spoke no English at all. When the others rounded a corner, he grabbed my face and kissed me out of nowhere. For context, we couldn’t even communicate as we don’t speak the same language. Because I am a dork who has been interested in nutrition for years I was curious how much overlap there was between nutrition advice across the medical, scientific, and consumer self-help spectrum. So, I went through and read a whole bunch of books[1] on the subject, government guidelines across the globe, as well as a number of scientific articles (meta-analysis, editorials, etc.) and wrote down all the general principles they suggested.
Then I ran that through ChatGPT 4Omni and asked it to give me a list of the most common principles from most-often repeated to least. The answers were... not surprising! Turns out common sense really is common.[2] I suspect a lot of people will read these and say "yeah, no duh" but it was a fun exercise for me and it increased my confidence in the general intelligence of humanity and the value of the scientific method.
Below is the list of Healthy Habits organized by categories (Diet Principles, Eating Principles, Living Practices) and arranged in order from the greatest impact[3] to the least. So, if you want to try adopting any of these principles into your life start at the top of each list and work your way down.

2024.06.01 09:02 Odd_Rutabaga_7417 FPS issue's seem to be related to heating issues on devices.
My phone while old actually dose manage the game fine at max setting for about 5 minutes then becomes a slideshow. On low settings it's the same. This also seems to happen on my tablet starts out fine the moment the device gets warm the stutter starts then eventual slideshow triggers. Also tested this on a modern ryzen 7 with integrated graphics absalute stutter fest on low. I don't think these issues will be fixed easily such a shame as I enjoy the game but my god they have made this impossible to run well for lower end devices and mid range this should have been a priority for them more people who can actually run the game means more moneys for them feels like such an oversite. I do wish they put it on console feels like a blunder not having at least ps5 ready at launch as well.

... 'cuz I'm here to report that I made a successful journey to the forbidden zone, and back again with zero imbibing!
Long story short (or not), my buddy got stood up (very much not a reflection on him. He's the kindest, most bad-ass and humble dude I know personally) and he tapped me to fill in. We spent three days and two nights in Vegas. We saw Rufus Du Sol, got into an Uber accident (nobody was injured), lost a $120 Ribeye Steak, danced until 4am, rented Vespas, explored all over, nearly got sunburnt, met some attractive people, saw even more attractive people, and lost 4 times on a slot machine hahah.
Overall, it was loads of fun. I definitely felt the pull to drink when we got to the concert. There were so many attractive people everywhere, most of them were drinking (I assume), and dancing was strongly expected. I dug deep and resisted. Fought hard to play the tape forward, visualized the end result, rationalized the fact it wouldn't actually make me more social or confident, reflected on the joy of a clear head and no hangover in the morning, and thought about the streak I'd be breaking. I intentionally leaned in and exercised a muscle in not giving a f#%*, and just dancing anyway, cuz really nobody cares.
I'm sure there were a few other tricks I used along the way but I can't think of them right now. Oh right, the calories/fitness piece. I'm in some of the g'damn best shape of my life, I feel very attractive (relative to where I've been), and that alone is almost its own form of intoxication. People look at and treat me differently.
My buddy had one drink the entire trip. He got an Old Fashioned (ugh, one of my favorites), and we spent half the meal discussing sobriety. He told me he was really proud of me and respected the commitment and expressed a desire to do the same one day perhaps. For the record, in the time I've known him he hasn't demonstrated an inability to moderate, but his ex definitely had some issues. Regardless, he has similar values which alcohol fails to honor, so who knows, he might decide it’s just not worth it someday!
Anyway, that's my semi-longer-than-intended debrief from the land of No-Nos.
Gave a solid plug to the community when talking to my friend, and I stand by the statement. This community continues to be very supportive and a goldmine for set forward and set back stories. Both of which are inspirational and constructive in my own personal journey, so I appreciate you all and hope you're crushing your goals out there!

This happened while I was taking a biology lab class. More than halfway in the semester, a new student (Morgan) joins my partner and I in our group as we are discussing plans for our final project. By this point they had missed 3 lab assignments and practical marks.
That same day before dismissal, we were supposed to discuss plans for our final project. Morgan went to our lab TA and told them the objective of our experiment without having a proper discussion with my partner and I who had been discussing plans prior to their arrival. Their suggestion was inhumane (cutting off parts of an animal for regenerative studies) and wasn’t allowed in our course. This was stated clearly on our manual, but they didn’t know because they didn’t have a manual (which is a requirement.)
A week goes by and I have heard nothing from Morgan. Throughout this time I’ve been contacting my partner asking if they’ve heard anything from them but they said no. So I had to find their contact info on our class list and email them about our outline for the experiment. They had contributed nothing to the planning of the experiment, but I brushed it off as our marks really came from our presentation.
After our actual experiment, we needed to create a slideshow and record. A few days before the deadline I messaged them if we could record the day of the deadline. This meant that we needed to create the slideshows and organize the data beforehand, however only my partner replied.
A few hours before the deadline, my partner and I decided to split up Morgan’s portion as they had not replied to our messages (they had chosen to work on the more significant portion of the work, except they didn’t do jack)
So my partner and I finished the slides and as we were about to record, we saw Morgan typing on the shared Google Doc. They apologized saying their phone had gotten ran over so they couldn’t type but could see all our messages. So why couldn’t they email us? Contact the TA? Worked on their portion of the presentation? Morgan didn’t even bother opening the PowerPoint we had shared with them.
Oh, I forgot to mention we had 2 weeks to work on this presentation.
After my partner and I recorded the presentation, I went to the Google Doc to see Morgan had typed that they could still record from their tablet.
And present work they didn’t do?
Nope, not happening.
Following this, I took the matter to the higherups, giving ALL of the evidence; time stamps, history of the edited document, and text receipts. I think it says enough that their only edit on the document was their apology.
And guess what? The presentation was only worth 5%, but to Morgan who had missed out on a majority of past assignments who knows how much it was worth.
I had not seen Morgan in following labs or the practical exam.
Our TA only acknowledged my partner and I on our feedback and we ended with a grade of 97.
Edit: Morgan is just one person, sorry for the confusion! I wanted to give them gender neutral pronouns. Both my partner and Morgan are two separate people lol

"Thunderclap, will you fucking stop that?" Green Growler said.
"Uggghhhh, stop what?" Thunderclap replied.
"That isn't him, that is your own pulse in your head dumbass." Esperelda, the mind sharing martian maiden said, she was usually far kinder. Green growler cocked an eyebrow at her in surprise and mouthed 'dumbass?' at Thunderclap, who only shrugged. Then the martian vomited, blue, so much blue. She'd tried to share their last party member's mind, but she was still whirling drunk.
The woman on the ground was called Kickass Karen, she was... well, a kind of generic super. Super strong, but not like... punch the planet in half strong or anything. Just bending steel beams and jumping over medium size buildings in a single bound, strong. No flight powers or laser eyes, but she could run about as fast a car on the freeway in short bursts, but a motorcycle might get away, however clearly she did not have super alcohol tolerance. Oh, she was also mildy bullet resistant. Small caliber tended to bounce off her, but she was hit in the hand with a .50 cal sniper rifle once, and it broke a bunch of her hand bones but only left a small cut on her skin.
Esperelda was the only one on her feet. When she stood up a handful of cows in the pasture noticed them, and started coming over.
"Mooooo!" Thunderclap said to them as they walked up. He slapped himself slightly in the face. A barbarian of a man in all ways, but still a little too hungover for that. He groaned, regretting slapping his own face.
Green Growler turned himself into a green housecat. Any predator would do, but he didn't want to startle the cows by being a tiger or something big. "Is Karen alright?" He said as a cat.
She lifted up her head at hearing her name. "I'll live. Ugggghhh my head. I swear to Mrs Infinity, I'm never drinking again. What even happened last night?"
Kickass Karen sat up, her bob hair cut somehow still immaculate. Super hair. A digital camera dropped from her chest and landed in her lap.
Esperelda, being the least hungover by far, asked, "What is that device? Is that a camera? Perhaps it'll have some clues as to how we ended up in this state."
Karen tossed it to her and then rolled over onto all fours and threw up. Super threw up. Sitting up was a super mistake.
Thunderclap staggered to his feet and made himself busy petting the cows. Using them to keep his balance too. He was still drunk, hungover for sure, but also still drunk. "There's a plume of black smoke rising over the horizon."
"Oh no..." Esperelda said, looking at the last couple of pictured they'd taken before jumping from what looked like a private jet they'd stolen. "That's probably the airplane we jumped out of."
Kickass Karen groaned. "That must be why I feel like I shit."
Green Growler jumped awkwardly up onto Esperelda's shoulder, ended up needing to use far more claws to get his perch than he meant to. "Shit sorry, sorry, sorry. I was just trying to get a view of the camera."
"You were trying to not have to walk yourself." Esperelda said settling him on her shoulders, "I don't even need to use my Martian Mind powers to know that."
Thunderclap laughed. "She's got you there bud."
"Good Lord! Delete that immediately." Growler said to Esperelda looking at a picture of him being ridden as a tiger by three scantily clad women.
"Did you see this one?" She scrolled back the other way. Taking them later in the night, this one showed him having his belly pet by a handful of nude party goers.
"Okay, so what the fuck happened last night?"the Green cat said, "Go back toward the start."
"I am, I am. Look at this one." Esperelda showed him a picture of him as a green tiger licking a woman's back.
"Delete that too." Growled the Green feline.
"In the mean time we should head toward that plume of smoke in case people there need our help." Kickass Karen said. She tried to stand and immediately regretted it.
"Use a cow." Thunderclap told her, helping her up to lean on his while he staggered to the next one. "Good cows."
They were good cows. Friendly cows. The one Karen was leaned against licked her face. "I'm tellin your manager you're licking the customers." She joked.
As they walked toward the plume of black smoke, Esperelda and Green Growler put together the story of the previous night. They'd ended the night by crashing a plane, but before that they had had a wild night of debauchery... or maybe interrupted a wild night of debauchery and joined it. About half way through the camera roll the four of them stopped even being there. It was however pretty obvious that the revelry the people on camera before them was having was... well very illegal. It makes sense that they showed up.
"Look at this guy. He's in the background a bunch later in the night too. He's always there." Growler commented from Esperelda's shoulder, "Is he wearing horns? Or are those really part of his head."
"In some of the pictures he doesn't have them, and in other's... Oh it's when he's not looking at the camera, that he does." She said.
"I dunno how you two are looking at a screen right now." Karen said. Thunderclap grunted his agreement.
"Well, based on what we've seen, you two drank a magnificent amount, far more than either of us. Also Martians process alcohol much faster than humans. And Growler's his own weirdness."
"Hey, I'm not weird." The green talking cat said.
"Shape shifting green blob from outer space, that can only become predatory creatures... not weird at all." Karen said, and they all shared a good-natured laugh, and then groan at their head aches.
Esperelda kept flicking through the camera roll and finally coming to the begining, "The guy with horns absolutely started the out of control part of the party. This camera started it's night at a divorce party some twenty somethings were holding for their friend. There were six pictures on it before he showed up in the background the first time. And then things start to get wildly out of control, and fast. Fifteen minutes from his first appearance to straight up nudity and drinking to excess. He seems to have riled up enough people to join him in whatever he was up to that he robbed both a bank and a museum with a drunken mob, and then we showed up."
"Scroll us back toward the end of the night now." The green cat said, "I missed most of the part where we stole a plane."
The four of them crested a small hill in the cow pasture, and saw the smoldering ruins of their airplane not too far away, on the other side of the home attached to this pasture. There were fire trucks around, emergency personnel all over the place.
"Ah, here it is. Horn man joined us in the airport." Esperelda said, and then flipped through some more, "Here's us drinking with the TSA agent, and another of us pouring shots into a pilot's mouth... oh dear."
"Horn man?" A familiar, yet unfamiliar voice said. "That's a terrible name. How about you kids call me 'The Reveler!'
There he was, the man from the camera roll, sitting up in the pasture with them, like he'd just woke up well rested. The bastard had no hangover. He only had horns on his head when you weren't looking right at him in person, and only on camera when he wasn't looking.
"Hey buddy, don't take this weird, but are you aware your legs are on backward?" Thunderclap said. Kickass Karen grunted in agreement.
The Reveler laughed. "You must still be quite drunk if you're able to see my true form, but they're just goat's legs. Now, I had a good time with you kids last night. You lot came to break up my party, but you joined me instead. I like that. Lets do it again soon."
A pair of women had broken away from the fire trucks and emergency personnel and was walking over to meet their little group in the cow pasture when The Reveler turned to leave. He took one step and vanished in a puff of smoke that smelled of wine and weed.
The two women walking over were identical. A pair of Mrs Infinitys. They walked over to help Thunderclap and Kickass Karen to stagger out of the cow pasture and give them a hand getting over the fence. Esperelda set Green Growler on a fence post and hopped over herself, and then re-collected the cat.
When the two aliens turned back to face the humans, both Kickass Karen and Thunderclap were crying and apologizing to the Mrs Infinitys. And they were both being very reassuring and promising the young supers they had done a good job.
"Oh no no my dears, you did great! That was an ultra omega triple S-level threat, and you four managed to get through the night without anyone getting killed, surprisingly enough. A lot of property damage and theft though. A lot. That's Pan for you though."
Kickass Karen swallowed hard and squeaked out, "Did you say Pan? Like the Greek God?"
Both Mrs Infinitys sighed. The one next to Karen spoke, "Yes, he resurrected a few years ago. Since then, twice a year at the spring and autumn equinox he goes out partying. Looks like he likes you four though."
She plucked a green rectangular business card from the back of Thunderclap's costume. It had 'The Reveler' pressed into it. "Ahh, I see he's come up with a new name for himself. Wonderful."
Esperelda knew better than to try to share minds with Mrs Infinity, so she asked, "Well what's next?"
"Electrolytes. Probably something greasy to eat, and a nap, I assume." She smiled, and the other one started talking. "But in six months I expect Pan comes calling on you four again, and I hope you'll be up to the task to keep him entertained again. As yet, we have no idea how to contain him."
Kickass Karen swore, and Mrs Infinity said, "Language, Miss Miller."
Karen laughed and then groaned because her head was pounding. "Sorry, but just a few minutes ago I swore on you that I'd never drink again... and well ain't that some shit that you of all people would show up to tell me I need to train for a drinkathon with literal Pan. At least its not Dionysus right?

Bobby: "Big, huh? Last time Bubba said something was gonna be big, we ended up with a new distillery wing on the Hodgepodge."
Jeff: "Yeah, man, that was a dang ol' good time, man. Moonshine so strong, you could fuel a starship with it, man."
Bobby: "Alright, Bubba, we trust you. But if this thing blows up, I'm blaming you for the hangover."
Bubba: (just nods, still with that mysterious smile)
Jeff: "Mm-hmm, man, I tell you what, man, that dang ol' Bubba, man, he's like one of them, I say, chess players, man, thinkin' 'bout next move and all that, man."
Despite their confusion, they trust in Bubba's mysterious foresight, knowing that his intuition has never steered the Convoy wrong.

Bubba: (just nods, still with that mysterious smile)
Jeff: "Mm-hmm, man, I tell you what, man, that dang ol' Bubba, man, he's like one of them, I say, chess players, man, thinkin' 'bout next move and all that, man."

Wave at babies and say good morning to seniors. This isn't even like actual advice it's just something I do that makes my day brighter lol
Use your money for experiences, not physical things. That dinner out with your friends is more meaningful than a pair of jeans.
Be there for other people. Your problems aren't the end of the world, and you're far from the only one struggling even if it may seem like it. Put your big boy pants, and engage in awkward chitchat with that cool friend you haven't seen in forever. Actually meet up for coffee, don't just say you do. Take photos. Keepsakes. Knickknacks. Journal. Remembering is so fun, and the more details you leave future you, the better.

Hi, so I just finished my first playthrough of DAO: Awakening. In the epilogue slideshow, it appears that my Warden left Vigil's Keep and was spotted with Leliana in Denerim one year after the Blight ended. In the wiki it says that this result happens when the Warden had a romance with Leliana, however during my Origins playthrough my Warden had a romance with Morrigan and had the approval almost at maximum, I just didn't choose to follow her in the end.
Does that mean we broke up or that the romance didn't count?

Hello. This happens with a few other steam games but especially in TF2. I start out fine with around 200 FPS then after awhile I drop down to 1 FPS. seriously. a true slideshow. It ended up giving me a migrane when I tried to play. My RAM is 24.0 GB (23.8 GB usable) with my processor being Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz 1.19 GHz. I used this mastercomfig thing and It didn't help at all. I also added these startup settings that I found online (I think via mastercomfig?) that skip the intro video and stuff.

The underground system of catacombs, old World War Two bomb shelters, and aqueducts echoed with the rumble of voices. Aldo Riganelli rushed towards the sound, determination in his eyes and the old Italian anthem playing in his mind.××××××
He couldn't believe it. It was happening, the liberation of Italy– and within his lifetime, too! Aldo believed that, in the best of cases, Alfheim would have tightened the noose around Italy, annexing the peninsula. And at worst, his lands would have been occupied by the Japanese and subjected to an even harsher rule after a devastating war.
Well, the last part happened, partially, he thought. But the details didn't matter to him now. All he cared about was seeing his country free. Aldo entered a narrow hallway, at the end of which one large man stood on guard.
“I'm Aldo!” he said, “I’m with you.”
“Codeword, pl–”
Before the guard could finish his sentence, Aldo immediately replied: “Garibaldi.”
The guard promptly raised his hands and moved out of the way. “Oh ok, come on in then.”
Aldo found himself in a large, if somewhat empty room. A table had been brought in, alongside some chairs and a whole bunch of documents, papers, and more. Sitting at the table were many of his colleagues. Men, women and anything in-between who, much like Aldo, all “worked” for the Oligarchy. Yet, since they were all there, those ministers and interns were anything but loyal. Indeed, they were all gathered for one thing.
Overthrowing, the Oligarchs.
“You're late, Aldo,” said one of the ministers there. Angela Furini, who had been working as Minister of External Affairs, yet had found nothing but disappointment as her office was practically overshadowed and ignored by the Oligarchy, who were focused on “handling the internal chaos of Italy”.
“It won't happen again,” replied Aldo, taking an empty seat at the table. “So… what were you all talking about again?”
“Oh, nothing much. Just the very simple and irrelevant discussion of who's gonna lead each ministry.” The sarcasm and annoyance in Angela's voice was palpable.
“W-well… You're already Minister of External Affairs so that one's settled.” Aldo chuckled. He really was late. Part of him wanted to just bury his head in his arms/ but he resisted the urge. “Who else is there?”
“The ‘Regent’, who'll hold the position until we can organize elections, is Mario de Gregori over there…” Angela pointed to a man sitting on the far end of the table, a short man with olive skin and a beard.
“Then,” she continued, “Giordano Miglio is Minister of Agriculture, Franco Pausini is Minister of Infrastructure… you would be a good Minister of Internal Affairs.”
“Hmm…”
Aldo thought about it for a moment. Originally he was aspiring to become Regent, but he knew he wasn't going to be a popular option so it was a pipe dream. He would have liked to become Minister of Infrastructure, due to his experience in Urban Planning, but Minister of Internal Affairs was an adjacent position, so he could make it work.
“I accept,” he said.
“Good,” said Mario de Gregori from his end of the table, “ I guess that leaves only the position of Minister of Defence empty. Are there any volunteers?”
“There is one.”
The reply came from a voice so deep it made Aldo skip a beat. Loud footsteps echoed across the catacombs, as the source of the voice revealed itself, entering the room.
Aldo could not believe his eyes. He was staring at a giant– no, a mountain. A man in military uniform, so tall and large he towered above everyone in the room, including the guard in the hallway. For a moment, it was like gazing upon a god-turned-man, such was his stature.
The man had a prosthetic left arm, which he put on full-display, uncaring about the judgment of others. Yet, the sighting of prosthetics was not a rare occurrence in Italy by now. No, the most significant feature of the giant was the enormous red scar on the right-side of the face, with his eye covered by an eye-patch.
Aldo had only ever heard of him, yet, in that moment, he had no doubts: that was the man who would lead the Coup against the Oligarchy. Brigadier General Ettore de Angelis.
September 5th, 2073, outside Salerno, 9:05 PM
Vittorio had never been a particularly strong drinker, but he didn't particularly care. Tomorrow he was gonna suffer from history's worst hangover, sure, but this wine was just so good, he couldn't stop. Besides, what was he going to do tomorrow?
The Oligarchs had ordered his unit to move south, towards Messina, but the commander had refused to follow the order and Vittorio sure as hell wasn't going to obey them himself.
Certainly not while his tank was still being repaired.
He both loved and hated that thing. Driving the LuWa made him feel powerful and unstoppable, yet whenever it broke down it was always a nightmare to repair. It was like a curse: the tank’s transmission would break and the engineers would try to fix it. As soon as they did, the tank’s engine wouldn't start. And so, repairing the tank always took double the time it normally should. What was even more curious, was the fact that no other tank in his unit had this problem. It was both hilarious and incredibly frustrating.
Suddenly, a fellow soldier walked in front of him, and placed a small piece of paper on the bench he was sitting at. Then, he quickly walked away.
“H-hey!” Vittorio yelled,”What… what's this?”
Vittorio grabbed the small note and, reading it, it all became clear. A huge smile formed on his face, as he read the last words of the message.

I want to preface this post by saying I am asking for insight. I’m everyone’s Q. I drink because I am so tired of myself and my soul. Drinking has affected my life for 7 years now, but I have been an addict my whole life (biting my nails, drinking, eating, adrenaline/chaos.
My mother wants to put me into rehab, when I am ready of course. She says I haven’t hit rock bottom yet, but I feel so fucking close. My first thought when i saw the cost was ‘I can’t have anyone spend that kind of money on me, I’m not worth it.’ I still believe it. I still believe that I’m not worth being saved. I am someone that fills other’s cups, but i rely on myself to fill my own.
I’m on the deep end of life and the way y therapist describes it, I’ve been living in my middle self for my life (higher self is spiritual and lower self is the roots). I don’t know why I want to drink myself away, and I don’t know why I genuinely hate who I am. Does rehab help with that? I feel like I could detox in jail for 30 days and call it good. I feel like I belong in jail. I belong somewhere that i can be locked away.
People tell me to just stop, but it’s not that easy. I feel so shitty with the shaking, the body aches, the hangover that I just need another, but it doesnt stop. I don’t stop. I have been scaring others while on this death drive.

The stars were barely visible in our light-polluted city, but the chilly late-night air was refreshing. I wanted to enjoy it, but I couldn't, not with the situation at hand. I hastily parked the car in front of the bar and got out, stomping in my slippers, which I had forgotten to change in my rush.
"I can't believe you, Gotanda-san!" I yelled at the man responsible for this mess. "You know Aqua is a minor. How could you be so irresponsible?"
"I'm very sorry, Saitoyu-san," Gotanda replied timidly, adjusting his posture as he supported the drunk teen. "I don't know when or how, but Aqua got his hands on some drinks. I– I just don't know."
I took Aqua from Gotanda and wrapped his arm around my neck to support his weight. "And you, young man," I said, "wait till we get back. You'll be getting an earful."
"Hmm," Aqua grunted in response as we slowly made our way back to the car.
"Actually, Saitoyu-san," came Gotanda's voice from behind, "I need a ride too..."
Suppressing my anger, I decided it was better to ask what exactly happened at the party. I threw Aqua's heavy body into the back seat, and Gotanda took the front passenger seat.
Driving down the clear road at night, I asked, "So, what happened?"
"...Apparently, Aqua has a fake ID," he began. "He got another table and just started drinking at some point."
"You know that's not what I'm asking." I could see him flinch from the subtle anger I failed to hide.
"I—I don't really know," he started pathetically. "He was talking to Tendouji-san and suddenly gulped down her cup of sake."
"And you didn't do anything?!" I spat at him. He pushed his body against the door, clearly regretting his decision to come with me. What were you doing, you supposed mentor?
"He just got up and sat at another table. I made sure he didn't get more drinks, but—"
"You were getting drunk yourself!" I snapped. "You should have called me after his first drink."
"Yes... I am sorry." At least he had the decency not to make excuses.
I dropped Gotanda at his mother's house before heading home. I glanced in the rearview mirror to find Aqua awake, eyes half-open, and looking at me.
"Good gracious, Aqua," I said. "I didn't think you, of all people, would do something so irresponsible." I knew he was too drunk to answer any questions right now, so I didn't waste my time asking.

Aqua lifted himself upright, and I couldn't see him anymore. He didn't answer for a long time. I gripped the steering wheel, suppressing the urge to call this bitch, Mariya or whatever, and demand to know what she had done.
"She showed me her family photo. A daughter; a son. They were quite happy." I heard from behind me, and all my anger dissipated, replaced by something colder.
"Is that a bad thing?" I asked.
"She had the audacity to show it so proudly," he said.
'It's okay, Miyako,' I said to myself. Maybe that was a good enough excuse—to remember the beautiful days with your now dead mother. I didn't ask anything more, but it seemed that Aqua wasn't finished.
"She had another daughter when she was young. A bad, bad mother," he said in an almost childish tone.
"How do you know that?" I asked curiously.
"Sarina-chan deserved a better mother," came the thoughtless reply. "No, a fantastic mother."

I got up to head to the kitchen, but he suddenly grasped my wrist. Slowly pulling himself up, he stood in front of me, now a full head taller, staring into my eyes. "...Yes," he said, and I could smell the stench of alcohol in his breath.
He followed me to the kitchen, where I handed him a glass of water, taking one for myself.
"You know, Aqua, I am very tired," I told him. "I will lecture you tomorrow after you are done with your hangover."
Aqua glanced down while taking a sip before placing the empty glass on the counter. He gave me that again—looking at me as if unsure what to say—but finally, his expression changed to one of determination.
"Are you upset, Miyako-san?"
"Of course I am! You have only just turned 18, and I find you slipping drinks like a hooligan," I replied glaring at him.
"Yes. I did something bad," he said. "But why are you angry?"
"Wha... Do you not hear yourself, or are you too drunk?" I spat out, louder than I had intended. "You are my responsibility, Aqua. Whether you like it or not, you have to wait until you become a working adult before you can stop me from lecturing you."
"Will you stop then?" he asked. "Once I become a working adult. Will I stop being your responsibility?"

"Listen, Aqua," I said, massaging the growing headache from this conversation, "I can't stop you from making your life choices, now or after you are an adult. But still, as your caregiver, I have the right to be upset when you make the wrong decisions. So yes, I will be meddling in your life when you do something stupid again."
Aqua's expression softened, as if he had confirmed something he already knew. The corners of his lips almost arched upwards like a smile, and I felt happy to add it to the memories of the few times he had smiled at me.
"Did you know, Miyako-san, hugs are a great way to hide your face?" he finally said. "I am going to hug you now."
Before I could process what he meant, his arms were already encircling me, tightening around me as he pulled me closer into a hug, the glass in my hand in between our chests. Feeling uncertain about what to do, I used my free hand to draw circles and pat his back to reassure him. Aqua had never acted so childish before; he never demanded hugs, not even from Ai. But even with him all grown up now, almost covering my body, I couldn't help but wonder why he still felt so small.
I wanted to ask him what was wrong, to tell him I could help if he wanted, but I knew better than anyone that such words could be pointless.
"You know, Miyako-san," he finally broke the silence, "there are lots of bad parents out there."
I placed the glass in my hand on the kitchen counter. "Is that so?" I said, pulling him closer into a hug and feeling his face nod on my shoulder.
"Marina Tendouji is a bad mother," he repeated himself.
"Aqua, I don't know why you are out for this woman, but you can't be so blatant about it in public. You drank from her cup; she must have felt uncomfortable."
"I know," came the reply. Then silence again. Aqua seemed much more honest and open than usual, and I couldn't help but chuckle to myself.
"Were you jealous, of her family?" I finally asked leaving the last part to myself.
"No," he said, his grip tightening ever so slightly before it loosened again. "... I will apologize to everyone at the party tomorrow."
"That you should. Now go to sleep, I have a tight schedule pushed to tomorrow," I said, almost sad to end the hug. I couldn't even remember the last time I held him in my arms.

"Yeah... Can handle all of it?" He asked.
"Are you doubting me?"
"...No. I never doubted you," he said, almost whispering. "In these 18 years, I have never once doubted you."
I felt myself in a daze.

I clutched his shirt in a tight grip in silence. I didn't need him to hear my breaking voice. And I hoped—prayed—that Aqua was too drunk to feel the growing wet spot on his shirt.

"I'm very sorry, Saitoyu-san," Gotanda replied timidly, adjusting his posture as he supported the drunk teen. "I don't know when or how, but Aqua got his hands on some drinks. I– I just don't know."
I took Aqua from Gotanda and wrapped his arm around my neck to support his weight. "And you, young man," I said, "wait till we get back. You'll be getting an earful."

"Good gracious, Aqua," I said. "I didn't think you, of all people, would do something so irresponsible." I knew he was too drunk to answer any questions right now, so I didn't waste my time asking.
