Ultrawide dpi help.

2024.05.23 10:50 Gamerdadguy Ultrawide dpi help.

Hi everyone.
I recently upgraded to a 34" ultrawide 1440p monitor, I think it looks great.
I'm having issues with what I think is a dpi scaling issue, not a tech guy but just what I understand from reading stuff.
Basically in some games my graphics go blurry or ultra sharp when doing certain things.
For example. In diablo 4 my graphics appear OK until I move something in inventory then they go super sharp. In world of warcraft graphics are fine, until I don't move the camera, then they go soft or blurry.
It's a really annoying 3rd world problem, which I feel silly asking about.
I've tried the suggested compatibility dpi scaling, tried changing to windowed mode and back. Just can't seem to fix the issue. I'm not sure what I doing in the nvidia control panel so don't want to mess too much with that.
Does anyone have any idea what the issue is, and of possible how to fix it..
For reference my desktop resolution is 3440 x 1440 and scale is 100%. Same settings on my games.
Thanks in advance for any help.

2024.05.23 10:49 magub19 Computer (randomly?) asked to select its boot option at startup, after years of normally using it

Hello, My desktop computer of almost 10 years has prompted me with its motherboard "info" screen (American Megatrends), asking me to "Enter setup to recover BIOS setting" when starting up. For some reason, it didn't start on its own like always. I don't really remember what the original boot priority option was, however it showed the boot priority as 1: cd/dvd drive (feels strange to use it as first option) 2: windows boot from the main SSD (thought this had always been the first option) 3: the main SSD I thought of changing the boot options to use the Windows boot first, however I didn't save the changes and exited the boot without changes, then the Computer startup went on as usual.
It seems to be running normally, as I'm writing now, the only strange thing is it's displaying the wrong time. It surely isn't half past midnight where I live!
Does someone have any suggestions on what could be wrong, what to do? https://www.reddit.com/pcmasterrace/comments/180119i/help_with_american_megatrends_boot_screen/ Also found this post, could this be a mobo battery problem?
Thanks
Running Windows 10 22H2 19045.4412, with a stock Asus H81M-E motherboard (quite old), an i7-4790, and a HyperX SSD and RAM. Tell me if you need more info

2024.05.23 10:10 GSM193 HELP: In-Place Upgrade Windows Server 2012 R2 NIC Teaming Issue

Hello guys,
I'm facing an issue upgrading Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard e to Windows Server 2019 , and i would love some help on this matter, since it's driving me nuts now.
We have some file servers with Teaming activated ( \o/ ), and so to make the upgrade, we must destroy it. The problem is that we go to Windows Server Manager, destroy the teaming as it should be, run the upgrade, and at the end, gives an error that there is a NIC Teaming present on the server.
Specs: Server: HP Proliant DL360 GEN9 Network card: Broadcom and Intel ones.
Troubleshoot made: - Tried to install Hyper-V Modules to remove the existint switch. Non of the servers can install the Hyper-V Role. It gives an error booting and reverts. - No Broadcom software present. - Can't find any teams or related entrys on powershell. - Can't find related records on the Regedit. - Tried to download and find Boradcom Software. Unable to find it. - Read KB's from HPE and Microsoft. They all point to using Server Manager for NIC Teaming...
Does anyone knows a workaround to this or had any issue of this kind in the past? Any ideias? Upper management insist that we make upgrade instead of clean install.
"I know, i know.... In-Place Upgrade \o/"
Thank you all in advance.

2024.05.23 10:04 Ifky_ A Guide on Downloading Works

We all know that you can easily download an AO3 work through the website in a variety of different file formats. But what if that isn’t working?
Having issues downloading a work through the browser? Is it attempting to download the fic indefinitely? This is the guide for you.
All you need is a browser and a terminal! (Most computers have these by default, and if yours doesn’t then I assume you know what you are doing.)

This guide will tell you how to:

  1. Find the download link of a work
  2. Open and use the terminal of your choice
  3. Use cURL to download the work
NOTE: cURL is available by default on MacOS, Linux, and Windows 10 version 1803 or later. If you use an operating system which does not have cURL, you will have to download it separately.
If you use an earlier version of Windows without cURL, you must use Powershell as the terminal of your choice. A separate step will be added at the bottom for how to download using Powershell without cURL.

Find the download link

  1. Go to the work using your browser of choice.
  2. Look at the link address (URL). It should be in the form https://archiveofourown.org/works/00000000. It might also have /chapters after, but ignore that section.
  3. Get the ID of the work, which is the text directly after works/, in the above example it would be 00000000.
  4. Insert the ID into this example URL, replacing 00000000 with the actual ID: https://download.archiveofourown.org/downloads/00000000/work.epub. This is an example URL using the EPUB file type. Replace this with the file type of your choice. For example, replace .epub with .pdf to get a PDF instead.

Open and use the terminal

  1. Choose a terminal to use. Different operating systems have different terminals, but the most popular ones are Command Prompt and PowerShell for Windows, Terminal and iTerm2 for MacOS, and GNOME Terminal and Konsole for Linux.
  2. Open the terminal. This should be possible to do the same way you open any program on your computer.
  3. Navigate to the directory (folder) that you want to download the file in. The commands needed to do this will vary depending on which operating system you use. On Windows, you can use dir to list (see) the directories. On MacOS and Linux it is ls to list the directories. On all three operating systems you can use cd directory_name to change directory. For example, when I open cmd.exe on my Windows computer, I am put into the directory of my user, which I can see because it says C:\Users\my_name>. From there, I use dir to see which directories I have. I see my Downloads folder and decide that is where I want to download the file. Then I write cd Downloads and have navigated to that directory. The terminal now says C:\Users\my_name\Downloads>.

Use cURL to download the work

  1. Write the example command in the terminal: curl -o title.epub https://download.archiveofourown.org/downloads/00000000/work.epub. This is using the work with the ID 00000000 and file type .epub. Remember to replace these with the ones of your choice. I have given the file the name “title”, but you could also replace this if you want to, or rename the file later.
  2. The work should now be downloaded into the directory (folder) that you previously selected. Enjoy!

Use Powershell to download the work

For Windows users without cURL.
  1. Do the previous steps, but instead of a terminal of your choice, you must use Windows Powershell.
  2. Instead of the cURL command, use: Invoke-WebRequest -Uri "https://download.archiveofourown.org/downloads/00000000/work.epub" -OutFile "title.epub". This is using the work with the ID 00000000 and file type .epub. Remember to replace these with the ones of your choice.
If you try this guide, please let me know if there is anything that should be changed or if it worked like a charm.

2024.05.23 09:55 LobsterPoolParty Any experience with KUBE Vocal Booths/products?

I'm in an upgrade phase right now, new house and opportunity to upgrade my home studio setup. I'm considering a KUBE diamond booth or a combination of their VO desk and something like a Blue Frog room kit. My space is a 225 cm x 415 cm office on the second floor, with a medium sized window on the 225 cm wall opposite the door.
Does anybody have experience or knowledge to advise on these options? Am I being seduced by novelty?
Thanks for taking the time to read! :)

2024.05.23 09:36 M275 Maximum HDD size supported in OS X High Sierra Ang HFS+

^ AND HFS +
As expected, the OS X continue to churn out making my cheese grater more obsolete. I realize I can OpenCore it, but had rather stay on a support OS that has almost no internet use. I have for SSDs in it now for VMware Fusion VMs, however I have been considering adding a couple of large capacity spinning rust drive and use them to store .vmdk files and a large capacity file server. I purchased it new in 2012 and it has never given me a single issue. It also has 128GB of RAM, USB 3, upgraded GPU, etc. I would like the capability to backup my laptops to it for a destination (one laptop has 8TB SSD and the other 4GB. Both are running Windows 10 Enterprise or 11 Enterprise.
I have read reports that some very large capacity drives were installed without issue, but they were large at the time and the technology grows quickly. I may install a 10GbE card later, however the two 1Gb aggregate connections will suffice for now v
I am looking for a SATA NAS or Enterprise drive.
Have others reach a limit on the EFI or HFS+? I would prefer not to use APFS on spindles.
To provide an idea of size, I was considering 20GB+ for each drive. If ZFS using three drives would be a better solution, I am certainly open to options. The VMs are not running mission critical VMs; it would be used as a lab environment with Windows Server for Core, *nix, etc.
Thank you for any input you kindly share.

2024.05.23 09:25 leapdown Framework 13 DIY can be a value buy - not necessarily a premium for repairability

Bought a FW 13 - 7640 around a month or so ago.
Happy with the overall experience, easy assembly, setup - forums are useful. Display and keyboard are really nice. Form factor is great - weight distribution is surprisingly better than a lot of ultrabooks.
Modularity and configurability is awesome - gives a huge peace of mind.
Coming back to the value part - some requirements when I was looking for a laptop.
Options
  1. FW: ~$1010 [$850 DIY + $100 RAM (Crucial, Amazon) + $60 SSD (Kingston, Amazon). Already have a charger but maybe another $(10-30) if needed.]
  2. Dell Inspiron+: ~$1200 [300 nits main con + less pref brand]
  3. Thinkpad X13/T14/P14 AMD: ~$1100-$1250 [300 nits + 1080 only]
  4. Asus Zenbook 14: ~$1300 [great display but significant throttling issues]
Framework is a much better value, overall - and even with a windows purchase is cost-effective in general. Thinkpads IMO close second due to durability and build quality. Do not trust other options as much. SSD could have chosen better (+$20-30), but do not have requirements for high sustained disk usage - no issues as yet.
13-14in market in general seems to have a lack of >=32GB options available. The configurability is a big bonus for mix-matching a system. Repairability/upgradability is a huge bonus, specially when it does not have a significant premium attached for it.
FW in general seems to encourage getting RAM/SSD/charger and other components on your own rather than buy from them given pricing difference for the same/similar components. Forums + this reddit for compatibility and recommendations have been super useful for the same.

2024.05.23 09:14 Imaginary-Function12 Buy guide: Zephyrus 4060 or Macbook M3 Max

Hi everyone, I'm at a fork in the road. I really need new hardwer for work. I mainly videomaking with premiere pro, after effects and davinci resolve, I also create compositions or image with Ps or Ai but what I'd like do the most is 3D compositions ( I am an early beginner but i want to study and keep creating) . As long as we're talking about technical specifications, I'm not interested in gaming. I'd like to play, but it's not a factor I consider when choosing hardware.
SO HERE'S THE BIG QUESTION
I don't have a big budget - in fact, it's very limited - but I'm willing to make sacrifices to get the device that's most worth buying to work at my best
In my country macbook m3 max costs 3699€
and an Asus Zaphyrus m16 with rtx 4060 costs 2.299€ *I could also consider upgrading to 4070
Now, i still had windows and mac (actually i am using macbook pro m1 ) I need to say that software is not a matter to me, i love them both, I know them pros and cons as well.I don't care about no ecosystem as long as my hardware is doin my work
I need to know if the m3 max pro smashes the asus or vice versa which one is the best one considering the price should i really spend that much for a macbook or I achieve the same power and smoothness with the Asus ?
Thank you people

2024.05.23 08:50 fweepa Upgrade CPU, mobo, ram now Windows is wack

Boots fine, can login, and after a few seconds windows becomes unresponsive. I can click and interact with some things but task manager won't open, Ctrl alt del does nothing, power and restart buttons are useless. What happened?
I've booted into safe mode and run sfc and chkdsk. Anything else I can try?
