Para George, os quadrinhos foram uma das primeiras formas de literatura. Ele sempre fala como odiava a literatura de base do ensino americano (Fun with Dick and Jane é sempre mencionado) e que lia quadrinhos da Disney, DC e mais tarde Marvel.
Na verdade, a Marvel marcou o segundo período em sua vida. Aos 13 anos, ele achou que estava muito crescido para quadrinhos e se livrou de sua coleção (que hoje valeria uma fortuna). Passou a ler apenas ficção científica, resistindo ao impulso de voltar aos quadrinhos que via ao lado dos livros nas bancas. Porém, em 1961 voltou a comprar quadrinhos e foi sugado de volta para o fandom pela famigerada Fantastic Four #4.
Para ele, o vilão da revista era muito cinza. Havia ali um conflito interno real, diferente do que estava acostumado, mesmo nos livros. Depois, veio o herói Homem-Aranha. Para George, a Marvel iniciou uma era de originalidade e criatividade. Até mesmo o jeito como as pessoas se comunicavam era diferente.
De fato, ele diz que enquanto as cartas para DC começavam com “Caro Editor”, aquelas que eram enviadas para a começavam com “Caro Stan e Jack”. Havia mais personalidade e senso de comunidade. E como as cartas publicadas nos HQs de antigamente continham seu endereço completo, George começou a receber cartas de outros fãs. Foi assim também que ele começou a receber fanzines.
Outro fator muito relevante para ele foi ter visto o personagem Peter Parker crescer com ele. George afirma que na mesma época em que ele foi para Faculdade, Peter também foi nos quadrinhos. Havia muita reverberação dos conflitos de George em Parker, o que o aproximava ainda mais do personagem.
Quando foi perguntado se considerava uma forma de literatura, George disse que sim, que respeitava a HQ como forma de arte, mas que o formato é cheio de limitações. Ele diz que é comum que ele se aproximasse mais dos personagens do que da história quando lia quadrinhos. Ele afirma não acreditar que os quadrinhos sejam o formato de contar algumas histórias, como uma epopeia da 2ª Guerra Mundial. Porém, é um formato muito bom para contar a história da mitologia moderna dos super-heróis.

Shit is beyond ridiculous at this point. Part of me wonders why I keep listening week to week and expecting anything different. Less main show and more trash no one asked for.

Unless the new person maintaining Jim's podcast has quit, there has been no progress in 3 months. This is in contrast with the 20% written in 39 days between 12/10/23 and 1/28/24. I have heard that the one con he went to and a few podcasts has taken a lot of time. But, a good friend of mine is in his 6th season of podcasts on leadership for NASDAQ with well known guests (e.g. bring people like Gen Stan McChrystal and Alex Honnald of Free Solo fame together to discuss risk assessment) and it only takes him a few hours/week. So, the difference is due to something else. It is so stark, it's fair to say he's hit a wall.
3 months with nothing written is a significant length of time. Until we see the progress bar move, there is no good way to estimate when the book will be published, just that it will not be this year.

With the EA Sports College Football 25 cover being released this Thursday, I thought it would be interesting to look back at all covers — and not just the EA covers, but the athletes featured on covers of rival games by Sony, Sega, and other competitors.
Competition is a good thing. Putting these in chronological order takes me back to the era where there were options (I bought my first game in the '90s, and played a lot of 2k2).
If you count the 2 players that are identifiable off of "College Football USA 96" there have been 36 cover athletes across 34 editions of college football games (plus an active coach, mascot, two band members, and an unidentified player)

Bill Walsh was picked because there was an early-theme of having big names on sports video games.

• EA actually started this back when they were the cool, bad boy of games in the 1980s (I'm that old, they packaged their games like records and put photos of their programmers that made them look like musicians on the back) with the pioneering PC game One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird (1983), later updated to Jordan vs. Bird: One on One (1988).
• Nintendo got into it by localizing Punch-Out! as Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (1987) for NES. EA brought out John Madden Football (1988) for PC.
• Sega was wild about this when they launched the Genesis with Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf (1989), Tommy Lasorda Baseball (1989), Pat Riley Basketball (1990), Joe Montana Football (1991).
• 1993: Bill Walsh! There even was an EA Coach K college hoops game.

Bill Walsh may have got the cover curse:

• While he had retired from the San Francisco 49ers on top, after winning his 3rd Super Bowl, he had only returned to the Farm for a year when he was picked (he had a good first tenure in the 70s before jumping to the 49ers).
• In 1992 he took the Cardinal to a Blockbuster Bowl win and a #9 rank. Signed this deal for EA.
• After the first game came out he had two bad seasons and re-retired for good.

The progression of teams is fun to see.

• 1993: the top 24 college football teams from 1992 + 24 of the all-time greatest teams since 1978. The teams were unlicensed so they used city and state names, especially where similar to their real names (e.g. Michigan). But you got some fun results like a spirited game of "South Bend, IN" vs "Raleigh, NC"
• 1994: 36 Division I-A teams, but the bowls were still not included: Instead we get Maple Bowl, Palm Bowl, Pecan Bowl, and Redwood Bowl
• 1995: first version to feature all (108 at the time) Division l-A teams, the real bowl games like Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, and Rose. Includes older names but also the Pacific Tigers, which actually dropped football before the game was released.

The rights to the title "NCAA" license wasn't obtained by EA until 1998 (as you can see there was an earlier one-off by Mindscape). Its ability to use the NCAA's brands in the the football game was actually the secondary result of a licensing deal intended primarily for an EA "March Madness" basketball game.

This game was my backup game; the "someone cancelled last minute so we can't play D&D, let's just make something up and roll dice" game. Now it's become one of our favs.
I'm just sharing this in case anyone likes reading this kind of stuff.
Firstly, I ran a game akin to the bonus content in The Adventure Zone podcast, so if you've heard that your familiar. But in our other games we've decided that every game we play is just one story in a shared universe. Like an anthology kind of thing. The best part is, as a very jokey group, we established that a lot of our jokes also become canon.
So far, we've established that society created the church of Katy Perry when she defeated the evil witch, Taylor Swift. There's a whole fake religion that came out of that bit. This became canon from a joke someone made while roaming the deserts of Mars.
A beloved sport, "Disc Stick" (hockey) had they're cherished trophy (Stan's Chalice) stolen by miscreant Taylor Swift worshippers. Also para-chronological and "semi-planes" exist, but we haven't really figured out how yet. It just happened when someone touched the trophy Chalice, they entered into a parallel realm while at the same time in normal reality.
Can't wait to see what the next session brings. I almost look forward to nights when a player can't make it now.

I guess the fact that I'm asking a tech question instead of answering one means I've officially become old. With that out of the way, can someone please explain what my options for home internet are, in the simplest terms possible?
About my situation:

• I'm a renter, the place I'm in is up for sale so it's likely I'll have to move in the next few months. According to real estate websites the property can get NBN, but, I'm not interested in doing the LL or the RA any favours by installing anything I can't take with me.
  
• having said that, using my phone for internet like I have been for the past year just isn't cutting it anymore, so I'm realistic about needing to be open to something else. Is there a reason those "pocket WiFi" / portable modems aren't as popular as they used to be when they first came out? What are the downsides to doing one of those?
  
• I wouldn't say I have heavy data use, even though I use the internet frequently. I'm not a gamer, I don't have any streaming services like Netflix or Stan. I take 1-2hrs of zoom video calls per week for work, and the rest of my internet usage is just reddit and a pretty impressive podcast addiction.
  
• because I'll likely have increased rent when I move, and because optus is already fucking me with the phone bill, I'd prefer if the internet was <$80/month, if possible.

The meme was of joe rogan in his normal podcast setup, sitting down and looking at a phone. His eyes were bulging out and it was a fairly common reaction meme I saw on twitter during COVID.
I usually saw it captioned with people mocking the OP or what they were talking about with the kind of language that's common on gay/stan twitter though i'm not sure if it originates from there. Think stuff like "oh girl thats not..." or "NOW WHY DID HE THINK IT WAS OK TO POST THIS". It wasn't very obviously edited from what I remember, since there's a lot of pictures of joe rogan with his eyes really bulging out, though its totally possible someone exaggerated it for effect.

I’m a fan of Drake and a fan of hip hop in general. I actually had Comeback Season during the limewire days. I’ve been keeping up with this sub, and I had two statements and one question.
EDIT:People are ignoring the points I’m making to jump to the context of the rap battle. I’m speaking to the hypocrisy outside of this where people are talking down on older and current rappers. People are also ignoring my actual question here.

1. Some of you guys are not fans of hip hop at all. Downvote me if you want! If you’re a stan of Drake you should be a Stan of hip hop. He credits his career to a lot of the greats and some of you guys ignore them. I understand there are younger people but Drake would be disappointed. He has/had respect for the rap game and other people skill sets since he started. There’s some ignorant moments or people playing dumb for the sake of arguments when it comes to other rappers impacts. I see some of you guys are on Kanye subs even with his beef with Drake. You guys aren’t low lmao.
2. Kendrick is a formidable opponent and whether you listen to him or not, we witnessed hip hop history but as a sub you’re wasting your time saying he’s not shit (As a rapper, I’m not speaking to his character). This is Nas v Jay, Biggie v Pac, MJ v Prince. We all have our opinions but no sane person who raps in the industry says Kendrick has a trash catalogue and neither would Drake himself. The Kendrick sub is looking dumb too for saying it about Drake (I’m going to post the same sentiment over there). I didn’t like where the beef went and I think all of us can agree to that but if he wasn’t good Drake wouldn’t have wasted his time battling him. He would’ve given him one line like he did with Joe Budden.
3. What the hell happened to really cause this. I’m listening to podcasts left and right trying to figure this out. Drake the guy who was on how many remixes, and features, for everyone to have a disdain for him (minus asap rocky and Kendrick)? Is he a bad person? I see some of y’all saying they’re all jealous, but I don’t think so. Again some of y’all are young but for him to have beef with Common and Pharrell, what happened to get it to this extent where the whole industry is not coming to his support!?!

I was listening to the latest episode of the podcast "Quick Question with Soren and Daniel", which is co-hosted by Soren Bowie, one of the writers on American Dad. They were talking about confusing close words like furthefarther and lay/lie, and Soren mentioned that "the showrunner" had a real bugbear for people confusing lay and lie, so much so that they made a big deal of correcting it.
In the episode "Irregarding Steve" in which Steve thinks he's much smarter than Stan and moves to New York with Roger, he ends up being solicited by Beauregard LaFontaine. It turns out Beauregard only wants to mock Steve for his stupidity, including a specific moment where a frustrated Steve says he's leaving to "lay down". Beauregard guffaws and makes a joke about "What are you going to lay down? A rug? You lie down."(paraphrased). I now suspect that was one of the writers needing to vent about the showrunner having a go at them.
I am expecting my Pulitzer any day now.

My friends and I have a video only podcast where we listen and review songs from music albums – usually pop. Although, we call it a podcast, we never post a full length podcast video. We only post individual clips of our reviews per song on Reels, TikTok, and Shorts.
We film on Riverside and then I chop them up in Final Cut. Unfortunately, it's been a challenge editing outside of my 9-5 and so here we are on reddit seeking outside help. Ideally, the editor should be able to continue the editing style we have established on socials – however, we are open to suggestions, recommendations, or trying something new. I can send you clips of the pod that have already been shared to socials. We don't have a following, but having an editor will lead to us posting consistently and maybe get a few extra followers. Right now, our priority is getting content out asap as I'm sitting on a good amount (Dua Lipa's Radical Optismism and Taylor's TTPD).
Clips are under 1 minute – usually 30-45 seconds. We post once per day as the algorithm seems to prefer that with our content.

• Editor has experience eliminating filler words (umm, so, gaps etc)
• Editor has experience telling a story based on the story the content is telling
• Editor will capture the unique characteristics and idiosyncrasies of each host
• Editor has experience with retention editing
• Editor will ideally be up to date with pop culture and social media trends to integrate into the editing when needed
• Editor has experience working with multiple video files and audio files to create one working master video. Sometimes the platform Riverside will malfunction and someone's audio will be out-of-sync with everyone else and it needs to be re-created using individual clips
• Editor has experience telling a story based on the story the content is telling

Full disclosure: I do not listen to the podcast a lot. I was a casual fan of JBP when Rory and Mal were there, the split lead to me not listening and i’ve tried to listen to the podcast, but I fell off and check in now and then, so if any of my recollections are off and if Mal has said things to contradict this observation, I apologize for the inaccuracy.
People have been killing Mal for his ovo stan shit (I think it’s funny as long as you don’t expect interesting insight), and this recent pod has been the most absurd, and people seem kind of confused, but three things clicked for me with Mal regarding rap battles;

1. He consistently sides with the side that has the better songs - He believes Drake beat Pusha T because Duppy was better than Story of Adidon, he believes Jay beat Nas because Takeover is better than Ether. This plays into #2;
   
2. He believes that rap beefs are won through personal interpretation and enjoyment, and not democratically. Whether people want to admit it or not, the better artist or songs do not always win rap beefs; it’s often told that way later because the winner writes history, but almost always, the bigger artist wins rap beefs because their audience is just bigger, it doesn’t even matter what gets said. Mal believes that enjoying a song more means that a guy won a battle AND that rap beefs are scientific; this guy rapped better imo, so i think this guy won. Rap Beefs are won pretty objectively and democratically - It didn’t matter that Takeover was a “better” song, Nas won the battle with Jay. That’s not open to interpretation because you like Takeover more.
   
3. Mal doesn’t know the difference between a good song and a good battle song. The insistence on the podcast that Meet The Grahams could not overshadow Family Matters because FAmily Matters is a better song does not compute to him because Family Matters is better.
   

Once you register these, all his points, while extremely wrong, make a lot more sense. He is consistently in favor of whoever releases “better” songs because that’s his only value system… the problem is that is a bad value system because it’s extremely biased, so he sounds insane for just repeating “let’s talk about the songs, fuck all this other shit” when battles also involve that other shit. He cannot fathom Family Matters being, in his opinion, the best song and Drake being behind because it’s the best song, but doesn’t realize that if it’s saying the hardest hitting stuff and nobody cares, and it has been decided, empirically, that they do not, then it doesn’t matter how good the song is, it’s not an effective diss record. It’s a good song, it’s a bad diss record because the people decided that.
Drake has been the beneficiary of these consensus decisions in the past as the biggest artist - Back to Back is not this murder killshot insane diss, but it’s a fun bop with some clever lines and makes fun of Meek for him releasing two songs before Meek puts out one. Meek put out a garbage song after, but he could have put out Dreams and Nightmares 2 and it wouldn’t have mattered, he had already lost. It happens sometimes; I thought Rap Devil was much better as a diss song than Killshot, but I can’t go around saying MGK won the rap battle with Eminem. He just didn’t. Most people believe 2nd Round KO is one of the sickest diss songs ever, but if you think Canibus beat LL in the battle, you’re just wrong. These things are not subjective or scientific, they are decided by perception and public opinion. Kendrick’s songs have all had much more impact than Drake’s because he has outmanuevered Drake, and even if you think it’s all just been chess and you don’t like Kendrick’s songs, the songs have all been very big and well received. Heart Part 6 is received negatively by everyone but drake fans, and I haven’t heard anyone talk about FAmily Matters because Kendrick stole the night.
There are other things you can point out about him being a bird on the podcast - him saying Heart Part 6 is better rapping than Euphoria (It’s an opinion but it’s also just wrong), Him commending the chess move to leak Kendrick information to make him look dumb but being unable to register Kendrick dropping after Drake completely gutted Family Matters (Obvious bias but he can hide behind Meet the Grahams is not a better song than Family Matters), him saying that a song with no replay value can’t have any impact (Not how those words work; you can hear Meet the grahams one time and it can be impactful, but also, ), but I think that these are just basic moments of a dumb guy trying to explain himself while also trying not to admit he’s biased or admit stuff he’s been fed by different camps, and can be sheltered behind the veil of an opinion, thus are just much more boring to discuss.
Tl;dr - Mal has consistent views on rap battles, they are just objectively incorrect views. You can like whatever songs or artists you want, but sometimes you like songs on the losing sides of beef. There is no 50/50 “I dunno I think x won the battle”, there never has been in rap. There have been no contests (Ice Cube and Cypress Hill squashed their shit before it got out of hand, for example), but battles that have ended, the winners are decided democratically, and based on every metric that have always been used to judge rap beefs, Kendrick has dogwalked Drake.

I’m sorry I don’t usually post at all but this is baffling to me. How do people actually believe drake’s bullshit claims about planting that daughter shit and baiting Kendrick into using it? Especially non-stans like reactors and podcasters and people connected to the hip hop world. Seriously, if you had an ounce of critical thinking skills you’d know that if Drake has actually managed to pull that off, he would have been frolicking around Instagram happy as hell gloating about playing Kendrick and successfully killing off meet the graham’s hype. Instead, he let that song marinate, successfully taking the spotlight away from the song that was very obviously supposed to be his red button (made clear by the extensive production process, lyrics and the fact that he thought it would be his victory lap) and didn’t drop until hours later when yet another diss had successfully curbstomped his credibility and image. In what world does that make sense? We all know drake’s not the brightest pea in the pod but I don’t think he’s dumb enough to pass up on the opportunity to prevent Kendrick from dropping not like us (which imo was the final nail in the coffin, you cannot escape a summer hit anthem calling you a pdf file no matter the outcome); it’s very obvious he saw that planting theory online and ran with it because he literally had no other option, not to mention the whole track is so haphazardly strewn together and has him sounding weaker and weaker, full of inconsistencies and self-owns and hypocrisy. Surely, they cannot be serious.

i’ve watched tana for years and i was never a die hard stan or whatever but i’ve just always found her funny and enjoyed her content. after watching this weeks podcast, i feel like what tana shows of herself online is a really kind of ditsy influencer or whatever it’s sometimes easy to forget she’s been through some real shit, and as someone who can relate i really respect the growth she’s had. the way she was speaking about it, you could really tell how healed and how much she has grown and come into acceptance of moving forward.
what gets me to the makoa part of this is that it got me thinking, after seeing her grow up online for many years im really happy for her that she’s found her guy. someone like her really deserves to feel loved and be loved. and im genuinely really happy for her ♡
