2024.05.23 10:46 petrificustotalus123 Veterinary job demand in Auckland

Hello! I’ll be leaving my job as a veterinarian and coming to Auckland on a working holiday visa perhaps in late December or January next year for 6-9 months. Travelling solo and to New Zealand for the first time. A few things I hope to gain some insight on:
1. Wondering if anyone has any ideas what the veterinary industry scene is like in new zealand/auckland? My university degree is not recognized in NZ so I would not be able to practice as a vet. However, I would still enjoy working as a vet or receptionist. Are veterinary nursing jobs in demand and are NZ employers open to hiring veterinarians on WHV for admin/nursing roles such as myself? In my country there is a shortage of veterinary staff so I’ve never had to struggle to get a job, is it the same in Auckland or other parts of new zealand?
2. Wouldn’t mind hospitality/waitress/retail/farm jobs as well if need be(though I have no experience to back me up in these fields), mainly feeling worried about the ease to secure a short term job. What months of the year will it be better to arrive in Auckland which will make it easier or harder to secure jobs? I saw that the school term starts again in February, does this mean I’ll be competing with more students when job hunting in January vs December? I would have to do 3 months of farming jobs in order to get a 3 month extension on my WHV.
3. How is the Christmas/new year season is like in Auckland. Will the holiday majorly affect the IRD/bank account opening processing times? Do banks close on the designated public holidays only?
Still in the early stages of planning, thinking if it’ll be a decent idea for me to fly into Auckland in mid january to get my bank/IRD sorted and meanwhile walk in to every veterinary clinic in the vicinity to try to secure my first job. I’m hoping to work hard and save up for a secondhand car, then go travelling down south in autumn.

2024.05.23 10:26 majorsorbet2point0 Pre Requisite Question - Biology?!

Pre Requisite Question - Biology?!
I linked Nursehub because they wouldn't let me post this without a link to something?! So I thought, "why not Nursehub?" 😅
So, I definitely have a question about this and I'm wondering if anyone's run into this. So, I am applying to the nursing program at my community college for Fall 2025 and they only require 3 pre requisites for the program. Elementary Algebra I, a chemistry and a biology but you got to pick which one out of a little roster of classes. I picked Essentials of Chemistry and Biology of the Human Organism.
Here's the thing. I emailed the professor for the biology course asking about textbook clarification and he was really friendly and sent me the syllabus so I could see what I needed. And... I saw the course schedule. It includes: Cell Structure and Function, Tissues and Organ Systems, skeletal system, muscular system, nervous system, special senses, cardiovascular system (blood) , cardiovascular system (heart), respiratory system, digestive system, endocrine system, urinary system, and reproductive system.
Now, this doesn't sound like biology this sounds like the layout of A&P. But, I am a little excited because I don't take A&P until the nursing program begins and I have to take the HESI, and under A&P on my school's guide for HESI it said "systems structure and functions" or something like that.
Is this how biology should be set up? And will this benefit me for the HESI? Thanks so much in advance!

XDefiant PLEASE FIX THIS!! Getting shot through cover and snipers being unresponsive!!!
I absolutely love quick scoping on controller in fps multiplayer games I’ve done it since 2012 and it’s all I ever do. I especially love it in XDefiant but there are some issues I’m consistently having. The first one I sure most players are aware is that we’re getting shot through cover. The first clip displayed is a perfect example this happening. The second issue which could be intentional is that in the second clip I clearly shoot the upper body of the enemy (rather the arm) but it’s not counting as a kill. I’m sure we can dig deeper into this but as of right now the practice range or whatever isn’t available so I can’t get super accurate damage numbers/comparisons. The third thing is although snipers for the most part feel really smooth and quick there are instances where you shoot but it doesn’t register in the game and this mostly happens I believe just after sprinting. It makes emergency no scopes non existent. I even tried shooting then switching guns quick but it just cancels the sniper shot. Idk maybe it’s a skill issue I need to work on but these small occurrences do get you killed and are annoying. I’m just glad that the announcer for phantom faction says phantoms don’t get frustrated we get even. Hearing that makes me keep my cool and get my head back into the game. Props to the developers for such a small but impactful touch!!
Hopefully YouTubers like @NerosCinema and @BlameTruth can cover this along with snipers in XDefiant more often. I hardly see them cover sniper content, I know the community is smaller when it comes to sniping but it would be cool and would give more content to create.

2024.05.23 10:20 Environmental-Ad3749 May DAT breakdown (27AA/27TS/21PAT)

May DAT breakdown (27AA/27TS/21PAT)
Hey everyone! I hope all is good. I recently took my dat and thought I’d share my thoughts on the DAT and DATBooster (the only program I used) as a whole.
Context about me as a student: Graduated last December with a 3.98 GPA - bio major. I work 3-4 days a week, study, volunteer, and shadow once a week.
Study Timeline: So, I initially scheduled my exam for early April, giving me three months to study as I was planning to start fully prepping on January 1st. That said, I postponed until May due to some schedule issues (I will get to that in a bit).
Now, I’ll get to my study journey, which has been quite the odyssey. My sole study program was DAT booster as I had met other people that got 20-21’s with it, and so I knew it would be sufficient to cover all my bases.
In January, I did start on the 1st as I had planned. Initially, I set my mind to follow the datbooster’s study schedule, yet here was where my difficulties began.
As a student, I went through undergrad primarily by cramming tests. It was the best way to immerse myself deeply into the material and memorize every detail within 1-3 days before an exam. I, of course, cannot do this for the data due to the sheer amount of material. I tried following the booster schedule by doing the section of each subject they recommended daily. I tried this for about a month, but I just couldn't be consistent because I felt I was not retaining information as I felt rushed to complete the suggested chapters/questions and move on to the next. I have never been the type to break up my studies and do a little bit of each in a day, and I mostly hyper-concentrate on one topic alone until I am done.
As a result, I set forth to try and study my way… by cramming. Two weeks into February, I began by cramming bio; I watched all videos (2x speed - stopping when needed to try and understand/memorize on the spot), then moved on to feralis notes. Feralis notes are excellent in the sense that they are thoroughly explained, but they definitely have more information than needed, in my opinion. However, I do suggest running through the feralis notes at least once during one’s prep. The whole bio section took me about nine days to finish, and then I moved to chem, where I did the same, and then orgo—I do consider myself somewhat good in orgo, which helped me cover the orgo notes in just a day. In the end, I crammed every subject on its own, which initially was great, but it ended up hurting me as well because I did not implement active recall. As every subject had so much info on its own, I ended up forgetting many details.
I was forced to rinse and repeat. So I crammed every subject multiple times in their entirety. It was a bit inefficient, but it worked better for me and allowed me to engross myself in the material. That said, after the first time I crammed all the content, I attended the dat booster crash courses (all of them, except for orgo) to use it as a refresher before having to cram it all again. They definitely did help, and I would strongly recommend the bio, the math, and the chem crash courses. That said, the math crash course I took much later was why I postponed my exam an extra month; I had neglected both the PAT and the QR sections.
During the extra month, I centered myself on learning QR through exams (I began first by memorizing the formula sheet). At the same time, I was testing myself in the other subjects through individual exams and learning from my mistakes–– I would write down the problems I got wrong and review them before taking any other exam. Time progressed and came the last 18 days before the exam. Here, I was stressed, rushed, and tired, but I had to keep going strong because I did not feel okay with where I was, and I still had not started properly practicing PAT.
In the last 18 days, I shifted my priorities from reviewing full notes to using summaries (i.e., bio cheat sheets, for example). Meanwhile, I also continued doing individual exams, watching PAT videos, and attempting some of the question banks. Now, when I was down to two weeks, I started taking full-length exams. I took about six complete tests, and this is, in my opinion, key! I had not fully practiced PAT, QR, or RC until now. However, the complete tests helped shape me as they gave me the ability to adapt to the timing of the test. I had to read fast; I couldn’t go back to a question during an exam (I found it easy to go back during the science section but nothing else). With each test, I improved on my timing for the three sections mentioned; the science sections weren’t too bad for me in timing; I was able to finish with minutes remaining.
In the days approaching the exam, I was getting 20-22’s on the exam. PAT always being my lowest section as I never managed to finish answering all Qs.
TL;DR I crammed each subject multiple times and practiced at the end. PAT I practiced for two weeks or so. Math for a month. Everything else does require more time.
EXAM DAY
BIO 27
I found bio to be much easier than I had initially thought. Yes, I was doing well on the exams, but the real thing was straightforward, IMO. While the questions asked were specific to certain topics, they were not specific in depth; they were very superficial material, at least in my opinion. I honestly think the Booster Cheat sheets were key for this section.
CHEM 26
Like Orgo, I have a good foundation from my classes, which immensely helped during the conceptual questions. That said, this section caught me off guard because, unlike what I was told during the crash course and from friends who had taken the test, I was forced to calculate the actual answer for all the questions involving math; they were not the type where you just set up the answer in the formula, I had to calculate the answer. This wasn’t something I liked, but it ended up going well for me. For this section, I thought DAT Booster was comparable, except I had to do actual math for all the quantitative problems.
ORGO 26 This section was pretty straightforward. The questions weren’t wrong. Orgo is all about being able to recognize the product. That said, I recommend understanding the lab procedures and the possible tests to test for the presence of certain compounds (jones, Lucas, etc.)
PAT 21 Welcome to my most hated section. PAT for me was always 50/50. Since I started practicing, I could give you the correct answer but not within the 40 seconds you have per question (5400sec/90) which made this section a bit of practice and a bit of luck. I did practice and got better with the full-length tests, but during the actual exam, it was the first time I was able to answer most questions (I only left two unanswered questions). For anyone prepping for this section… just practice lots, and you’ll be fine.
READING 30 This section caught me off guard as I was not expecting a 30. For some context, I didn't practice English outside the full-length tests as I thought it was a waste of time; I just needed to read. I did try a few individual passages to test the strategies, but I stuck with what I know how to do, which is to read the entire passage and then answer. I did the same on the test; I read the whole passage and answered the questions. That said, my second passage was rough. It was a very dense passage with 20 paragraphs discussing the physiology of a certain body structure. It was a lot of detail and took me about 30 minutes to get through, leaving me with little time to get through the last passage, but I was so focused that I managed to read it quickly and finish on time. Recommendation for this section: take lots of full-length tests, and focus focus focus, read fast, and answer fast.
QR 27 I'm not too fond of math that much. It does not come easy to me, but I can learn it if I practice a lot, which I did. However, this became my favorite section after discovering no geometry for the 2024 DAT :D This section was mainly word problems and algebra, which I found pretty straightforward after practicing lots. The main recommendation when prepping for this section will be to attend booster crash course and to take as many exams as possible, memorize the formulas, and review your mistakes prior to taking exams.
And so we get to my final thoughts. I am not a great long term student (something I have to improve on during dental school), but this is the main reason I wanted to share my experience prepping for this exam.
I did do well but I do not feel like I studied properly. My main suggestion for anyone is to implement active recall in whatever format that you can, be it flashcards, anki, quizlet, going back over notes, etc. Learn the material once and just review it. I was not able to do this because with work and everything, my time was limited and I would forget the details by the time I could go back over the material which is why I had to repeat it all again and relearn it.
It is possible to do well even if you have a lot going on. Just set your mind to it, follow your own schedule if the DATBooster schedule doesn’t work for you, and please implement active recall!
Good luck to everyone!
As a last note, I'm not too fond of Anki. Props to everyone that uses it, but I despise using it. Takes too long to memorize and then it’s like 1000 flashcards for only 2 chapters…. no thank you. I did use it to memorize and review chapter 1 and some of the systems but I do not recommend it at all.

2024.05.23 10:20 VoiceKindly3090 Need ENT desperately ( havent had any ear wax in around 5 years)

(15 , AFAB) (uses male pronouns) Ever since i can remember, i have been prone to ear infections, i remember at a young age having an abundance of ear wax, not ever being able to use ear buds without them being covered in ear wax after. I dont exactly remember when, but when i was around 7 probably, i got my tonsils and adenoids removed due to severe asthma and swelling of tonsils, the doctors suggested tubes in my ears but eventually ruled them out because they thought draining my ears and removing my adenoids would solve the problem. it only solved the problem for a few years after, now ive never had any asthma problems in over 5 years, but my ear problems are constant. around 5 years ago i flew to florida for vacation, and coming back i had an ear infection, they said it was swimmers ear, i got drops, and it was good for a few weeks, till it came back. i got told that my ears hurt because of my teeth, so i got braces, that solved the problem for about 4 months, but i cant even remember the last time that i have had normal ear wax. the problem that occurred after braces was significantly more severe than the last, after a few visits at med express, and a few different ear infection medications that never worked ( im sorry i dont remember what they all were) i was referred to an ENT, at that point my lymph nodes were so swollen it looked like golf balls behind my ears under my skin, my ears were constantly leaking and swollen, and the inside of my ears were constantly extremely itchy, it felt as if my ears were constantly full of liquid, but the doctors saw nothing when they looked inside. around the 3rd ENT visit, after many failed attempts at figuring out the issue, they took a culture of the inside of my ears. the results came back as Canada, ( i dont remember the scientific name but when the doctor was talking he called the fungus Canada) The drops i was perscribed were " athletes foot " ear drops that my mother got on amazon. the most that did was stop the severe itchyness, but still no ear wax , the closest i have ever gotten to normal ear wax, and not the clear fluid that comes out of me today, has been a yellow goop the texture of like cornstarch mixed with water. ever since then i have had slight issues, only coming out in the form of allergies. ( sorry for another story this is long) i was born into a family around cats, and they died as i was a toddler, after that i became severely allergic and was even sent to the ER from my eyes swelling shut from allergies, now im able to be around animals through exposure therapy, i have a cat and a dog, and when i go on vacation for a week, and come back, both animals give me hives, when i meet a stranger and pet their animal , allergies, where this connects to my ears, I have noticed a few times that me interacting with a foreign animal causes my ears to become extremely itchy on the inside, and even swell and leak if i give in to the itch. A nurse suggested its allergy induces psoriasis in my ears considering psoriasis runs in my family. But what confuses me is that my ears dont bother me every single time i have allergies, only sometimes. And the fact that my ears randomly swell up and hurt at least one month consecutively out of all 12. could be an actual ear infection this time , i guess since i dont produce ear wax im prone to ear infections and water blockage, but when i pop my ears i can hear bubbles and feel liquid, it feels sharp and hurts too much for me to do. the same nurse i talked about previously said that sounds like fluid behind my eardrum, but when the various doctors i have been to looked in my ears they said there's nothing there to drain. i dont really have a question i just need some advice. it's come to the point where i have practically given up on the healthcare system. i just really wish someone could help me figure out whats wrong. im going to med express today to get looked at because this is my flare up month i guess. i forgot to add that the surrounding exterior area of my ears hurts to touch. it feels like a a sharp needle pain to put any amount of pressure around , in, or on the area of my ear that is currently blocked and swollen. also the ringing, sometimes it will faintly ring, but i can constantly hear my heartbeat, its like a headache in my ear that makes it swell. i do get migraines from fluorescent lights or loud noises. usually my issues are both ears, but this time its only one. just want some ideas to bring up to the doctor, mabye even home remedies or vitamins that may help my earwax production. Feel free to ask any questions as there is probably various different things i could expand on and give more detail.

2024.05.23 10:19 Zoom_RN Need a different category?

Hello all,
I have a resume that I really like and has worked for me previously. I did not use this resume to get my current position, it's weird but recruiters build them for travelers. I am looking to go back to a "staff" hospital job.
So I need a nice and current resume. In school, I had multiple clubs and organizations that I volunteered with and had that on my resume. I have not volunteered since 2021 so it feels weird to me to include it.
What new section/category/heading should I use based on my lay out and what I already have?
Thanks so much for checking out my resume and any insight anyone can provide. 👍😃

2024.05.23 10:17 Character_Elk_6224 32F. Mom of two. Married. Night shift nurse. 100% addicted to Adderall. I just want to hear success stories. Especially anyone who works night shift.

Long post. But this is literally the first time I have ever told my story. I started adderall during my first year in college (2016), and here we are, prescribed 30mg 3x daily. I run out within a week! And I spend up to $400-$600/month on more from people I know. If I don’t have adderall, IT IS A NIGHTMARE. I have called out of work multiple times because there is no way I can adequately care for my patients if I do not have any. I get SO depressed. Sometimes even suicidal. (It’s not that I’m sad I don’t have adderall, I have thoughts that I’m a bad mom because I missed a football practice bc of work, or I forgot to send money with my son to get ice cream at school, etc). I tear myself down so bad, I SLEEP NON STOP and when/if I’m awake, I’m crying so hard until I’m finally able to get adderall into my system. Then I’m perfectly fine! It’s like night and day. And I know it has to be traumatizing for my boys (11yrs & 4yrs) to see me when I’m like that. Although they have helped me in so many ways to get through those times (bc my husband completely ignores me, bc I’m sure he’s fed up with me and my addiction and don’t care to tend towards me, but hell, can you blame him? 🤦🏼‍♀️). As a mother, I should not be allowing my boys to see me like that as often as they do. It literally eats me alive wandering what I am doing to my boys bc of this addiction. As I’ve read through many post, I feel like others, “I absolutely cannot live without it”. Because I TRULY cannot see myself being able to function daily if I don’t take it. I work up to 60-72 hours a week on night shift. I have to stay up for my shift, in addition, I feel guilty if I sleep all day because my 4 year old sure as hell doesn’t want Mommy sleeping all day. He’ll say things like “Mommy please don’t sleep today”. So I pop more addy, and I stay up to make my boy happy. HOW in the hell is one able to completely function without some sort of stimulate working nights and as many hours as I do, on top of making time for kids during the day? 8/10 nurses I work nights with are on adderall/vivaynse/etc. I don’t know the extent of their use. But I feel like taking a stimulant is the only way to be able to function properly. And to add, I HAVE to work that many hours, I HAVE to work night shift. I can’t cut back nor switch to dayshift. Trust me, when that day comes I feel I’d be able to have the willpower to decrease my use significantly. Until then, am I just going to live this cycle forever? Also to add, I just recently had a doc tell me that my long term adderall usage is what has caused 95% of health issues I’m dealing with. Hard to control high blood pressure, tachycardia, decrease blood flow to extremities, etc. Ticking time bomb over here 🤦🏼‍♀️ Never in a million years would I have thought my life would be so dependent on a drug. Nor would I ever believe I could ever allow my boys to see me at my lowest, multiple times. Advice, kind words, harsh words, something. Some kind of hope. That’s really what I’m needing from this long ass post.

2024.05.23 09:53 catholicsasuke My main nurse was apparently my girlfriend’s best friend in middle school

I just wanted to share this funny story. My girlfriend came with me to my appointment at the surgeons office to get my binder taken off for the first time. The nurse kept giving her a funny look and was finally like “I know you from somewhere.” They realized they went to middle and high school together in a completely different part of the country than were in now, and were actually good friends for a while. My girlfriend has been telling me stories about her forever about how she was kind of mean and a little bit nuts and that she got roped into helping her pierce her ear with a paperclip during class one time. Meanwhile I’ve been emailing and texting with her back and forth with her about my surgery for over a year and today she drained this stupid blood blister thing from one of my incisions and has been super sweet about the whole thing. It just makes me laugh because what are the odds.

2024.05.23 09:47 Patient_Bee1319 Leaving 5 minutes early in the NHS

I am a nurse in the NHS. Specifically in A&E. My shift pattern is 8-8, however 99% of the time I end up leaving later than this as we have to handover. One of the allocations we get is being transfer nurse, which basically means that from 8-8 we transfer patients from A&E onto the wards and help other nurses cover their breaks when they are struggling or there aren’t any transfers. I was transfer nurse this one shift and I left 5 minutes early as shifts were changing over, there were no transfers and all other checks and work were complete. But to my surprise, as I was leaving, I was chased by a matron who followed me out the door and was shouting my name to say my shift didn’t end till 8. While she was right I explained that I was transfer nurse and I told the nurse in charge that I was going and that all work was complete. She made me come back inside and sit there for 5 minutes until it hit 8. Not sure if this is justified or extremely petty but can’t help but feel this is what contributes to the toxic culture of the NHS. Any comments?

2024.05.23 09:47 PeppehGreen Starting nursing school in August, trying to lower monthly costs before then.

I am starting nursing school in August. I am trying to lower my monthly living costs so that I can take a step back from work if I need to. I don't plan on not working because I want to save as much money as I can until clinicals take too much of a toll on me if they do. I don't have a lot of liquid cash right now. I just got back from a deployment and my ex took everything I had while I was gone and I had to spend most the money I had saved to replace everything and fix everything that was broken. I work a full time job in EMS and bring home roughly 3000 dollars a month. I am also in the National Guard and bring home around 200-300 a month for drill. My girlfriend also gives me around 400 dollars a month to help pay for some of the bills around the house once I start school, the VA will be sending me a monthly housing allowance of roughly 1917 a month which will mostly be going into a high yield savings account through Fidelity.
Currently my expenses a month cost around 2785 dollars a month which only leaves me saving around 815. I pay 1050 for a mortgage, 497 car payment, 157 for car insurance, 185 for braces, 115 for my new HVAC, and the rest is various bills like power, water, internet, etc.. The 815 does not calculate in food or gas so it is considerably less that I am saving per month.
I also have a considerable amount of credit card debt. I had to take around 1950 dollars of debt towards my home depot credit card to replace the floors that were ruined while I was gone. I spend around 2000 on my credit card to get a couch due to my previous couch being ruined. There is around another 1000 dollars due to various reasons before I deployed. All of my other credit cards are paid off. My credit card usage is around 52 percent.
I also have a charge off on a credit card that went to collections while I was deployed. My ex was supposed to be paying the charges while was gone and stopped paying. I was never made aware of this until it was too late. The money I owe for the charge off is close to 6400. I am in talks with the debt collectors and they have reduced the money owed by 50% but I am trying to get them to reduce it more if I pay in a lump sum by the end of the year.
I am getting a large bonus of 20000 dollars tax free through the military and am trying to figure out what to pay off to reduce my monthly costs. I still owe over 170000 on my house so there is no way to pay that off. When I get my bonus, I will only owe 16000 on my car, 4050 on my braces, and 5560 on the HVAC., and the 4365 credit card debt and the 3180 for the charge off credit card. I am trying to figure out how to use my bonus to the best of my ability. Originally I was going to pay off my car because that is the most money per month at 500 dollars a month, but that would leave me with no way to pay off anything else unless i put a little liquid cash down and I could pay the braces and my car off which would save me almost 700 a month but I would not have any of my bonus left. I could pay off the Braces, HVAC, and enough credit card debt to get me lower than 30% total credit usage and still be left with around 7000. I was thinking about at that point taking a equity loan out if my credit was good enough to pay the rest of the car off and hopefully the charge off account.
What should I do and which option should I go with. I don't think there is any way to be able to completely quit my job, go to school, and still pay my bills. All of my debts excluding my house equate to 33803. Past my bonus, I would need 13803 dollars to pay off everything debt wise. I am not too worried about completely paying off my credit card debt, just reducing it by around 1500 dollars which reduces my needed amount to around 12300. What should I do? I could Honestly pay off everything but my car, I would still have roughly 2300 dollars left but would only save about 400 dollars per month. If I paid off my credit cards down to 30%, I would only save 336 a month, I would have around 5750 left over, and it could put my credit in a place that I may qualify for a equity loan.

2024.05.23 09:39 mcat_on_throw Nurse purposely trying to make me look bad?

I’m new in the hospital but I have clinical experience so I know how to do the basic things. But one nurse did something and I am pretty sure they did it on purpose to make me look bad.
We are moving a patient and I am at the back and they are in the front. I know that I am only pushing and they are steering. The guy is holding the stretcher with one finger and is walking backwards. He can clearly see if we are about to hit something on the side, but he will move the stretcher even closer to the side we are about to hit. I didn’t want to embarrass him in front of everyone and tell him to steer correctly, but it also made me look bad because my supervisor had to tell me how stretchers work in front of everyone. I couldn’t just say “I know” so I just stayed silent.
This is just an example. Nurses will constantly drop things near me and when people look it looks like the new girl did it because I’m the one picking up the mess they dropped.
How do you handle pettiness like this? I know it’s not good to be seen as the person complaining, but I also feel like I should confront them.

2024.05.23 09:20 OrtizRN Too young for full time?

I'm a mom to almost 9 and 11yo boys. I'm a nurse that works night shift, and most of my house are just night owls. My 78yo grandmother stays up all night too, so it's just in our DNA somewhere.😂 So I think virtual school would allow us to be a little more fluid with bedtimes.
I also just moved to being a part-time weekender at my job, meaning I work 7pm-7am Sat and Sunday. So the whole weekend is pretty much off the table for activities. Before this I was travel nursing, but I missed my kiddos. I eventually want to go back to traveling with the goal of doing virtual school and taking the whole fam with me.
I'm thinking about trying them out in FLVS this upcoming year as a "test" and if it works out then pick up the travel nursing plans. But, what's too young to expect them to be able to do this? They both have really good reading skills. I'm just not sure about the level of focus it's going to take to keep on track. Any one that had kids this young be successful and what tools do we need to make it work? Thanks in advance.

2024.05.23 09:19 Gameofthroneschic Help on what to get for my step-grandma

Hi everyone! First time here. To keep it short, my grandparents raised me for the majority of my life. They were my dad’s parents. My grandma died in 2016 and my grandpa and I were devastated. The next year while I was living with him and going to nursing school, I met an older lady at work. We happened to be remodeling the basement at this time and there was plaster dust from putting up walls EVERYWHERE.
Now this lady I worked with was in a really rough spot money wise. So I offered her a job coming once a week to our house to clean for cash. This went on for some time and she and my grandpa struck up a very slow friendship. I encouraged him to be friends with her and after a couple more years, they were engaged!! My family was mostly horrible about this and belittled this woman constantly.
There IS an age gap of 13 years, but to give it some context my grandpa is 81 and she is 68. I feel like as you get older it matters less. She is an amazing woman. She was a widow and has some kids near my age and one much older. We have become a family in word and deed. I moved across the country to pursue my career and I knew that I wouldn’t need to worry about my grandpa because he has her.
On their honeymoon she bought me a personalized plaque stating “gameofthroneschic is the best matchmaker ever” with their anniversary date.
I want to get her something to remind her how much she is loved. My grandpa does well for himself and so she will never have to worry about money for the rest of her life. But she even had the idea to do a prenup so her intentions of marrying him were for love and love alone.
In 2022 my mom died at 51. I’ve had multiple suicide attempts, late night calls, and guidance from her as she is now the only female relative I have who loves me.
I want to get her a gift. Not for any particular reason but to remind her that she is so SO loved by me. So here I am. As a step parent/grandparent, what is something special and meaningful I can get for her that can remind her every day of how much she is loved and the worth she holds in my heart?
Trying to keep the budget at $250 or bellow. She LOVES jewelry, horses, things that are like glam in style, Marylyn Monroe, turquoise, and dogs.
There is no time like her s so if it’s something that needs to be custom made that is fine. I’ve tried googling but everything is just so cliche. So I want to hear from you guys about what kind of gift from your step granddaughter would mean the most to you. Ty!

Hello, I have half of my family in hawaii and I'm planning to move to Oahu, I've visited the island many times and had always loved my experience there. I took a gap year after highschool to work and learn what I truly want to do. I decided on healthcare and want to be a nurse, I currently live in Oregon and am thinking of moving in this year. Does anyone have any idea on how I'd even apply and qualify for a hawaii grant?
Or what schooling would be best for nursing I plan on going to a hawaii community college.

2024.05.23 09:06 SweatyPiano6180 Nursing program courses online

I was wondering if anyone knew if any portion of the nursing program could be taken online and asynchronously? I’m in the national guard and will be deploying soon but I don’t want to wait until I get home to get started on my schooling so I was wondering if any portion of the UIC nursing program can be done online/asynch and once I return home I’d do the clinical portions of it

2024.05.23 09:03 ThrowRAcookiejar I don’t work well with other coworkers. What job can I have???

I’m 21, a female, and don’t work well with other people (usually). I will provide some of my previous work experience for some background:
1) Interior Design Executive Assistant: I was the personal assistant for an interior designer for just less than a year. Why I didn’t like it is because of my boss. She was rude & bossy, and I hated being told what to do. I just don’t really like having an obvious boss around me at all times. My favorite time of day was when she left me alone to paint, drill, caulk, sand, and build 3D models by myself without her around.
2) Chain restaurant/fast-food: Took orders, prepped bakery items, barista, etc. Hated when my coworkers wouldn’t stock, found most coworkers annoying, I’m just not that great at socializing with them. There was 1 person that I REALLY got along with though and I loved working with her. I also didn’t mind the customers.
3) Veterinary Receptionist: Love the clients (unless they’re rude and explosively angry at me). Almost all girls in VetMed have a superiority complex, talks to their coworkers however they want unless they’re in a clique, it’s like high school. Their tone can be nasty for no reason, and I just hate working with Vet Nurses because they are so up their own a$$. I have 3 coworkers that I really get along with and love, but the rest, they don’t really like me because I am on the quieter side and get my job done. They get pissy when I don’t have the chance to do something specific in a timely manner because it’s super busy and they’re not helping me clean rooms or check in patients, so they hold grudges against me even though I do my very best with no help at all.
I just don’t socialize well, don’t do well in groups, everyone annoys me in some way either by their unsolicited attitude or work ethic, and people perceive my quietness as weakness or rudeness somehow.
I’ve been in vastly varying fields, disliked working with most coworkers every time, and coworkers weren’t too fond of me either because I’m reserved. so what the heck can I do now that has nothing to do with coworkers??

2024.05.23 08:50 Total_Ad6080 Considering joining the navy…maybe college? Maybe both?

Hi! I’m a 17 year old, about to become a senior in high school and I’m considering joining the Navy. I’m a first generation, top 10% of my class and I scored an 82 on the ASVAB, which everyone tells me is a great score especially for someone who lives in Las Vegas. Anyways, I’m considering joining the Navy because I feel like I need a challenge in a life, a sense of belonging, and I’m not sure if I can afford college in this day and age. I’ve only met with the Marine and Navy recruiters but in the end I qualify for basically any job I want, except something nuclear for the Marines, however for the Navy they said I will probably qualify for their nuclear program and it’s interesting, I like math and science, never gotten anything below a B in those subjects and maybe I’ll be a good fit? The pay that they advertise is pretty good and I don’t mind schooling. But ever since I could remember I’ve wanted to do something in the medical field, and I know for the Navy that would be becoming a hospital corpsman. I’ve always wanted to become a nurse, getting my BSN and I know the navy has a program precisely for this. But I also know I can be in one program and go to college for a completely different thing like nursing. Now my question is, is it really worth it? Does anyone know the pros and cons? (Apart from the obvious ones) Any advice you guys can give me? Anyone a hospital corpsman or former? Or someone who went to through the nuclear program and knows the demand and responsibilities? Thanks!
