Why does Enterprise-level software suck so much?

2024.04.05 16:11 NullOfficer Why does Enterprise-level software suck so much?

This is probably rhetorical. I'm sure the answer is "Because they can"
But the primary customers of software are large organizations, government agencies, and institutions
The general consumer-facing programs are clean, polished, shiny, mostly intuitive. Slack is pretty good as it straddles both audiences.
Some programs like Veeva are decent. But Madcap, oXygen, many QMSs, a lot of LMSs, and so forth are absolute dogshit in usability, functionality, and interface design.
We use IBMs Maximo which is a CCMS to track maintenance, calibration, repair, work orders, and other such records. I need access to them to write reports. But it literally takes about 15 steps from entering a record ID to viewing it to saving as a PDF.
I had to retrieve about two dozen for one report, and it took me about an hour.
Why does software like this suck when it's the largest contracts that sustain them?
we use a LIMS from SAP too that I need to access and the interface on everything I discussed looks like it was cutting edge in 1999 and was never updated.

2020.12.09 12:50 Omega_Den Question on how to monitor smq1 and smq2 via ccms

Dear administrators, I was given task on monitoring the number of queues (outbound / indbound ) for our system. I know how to monitor and make automatic alerts for APO queue when they enter into alert status. However my need is different.
I want ccms to make alert if number of queues in SMQ1/SMQ2 exceeds for example 30 queues at a time. They don't have to be in error state. They can be running, waiting etc. It's just the number of them that I want to monitor and if it's exceeded then I want ccms to alert me.
Is there a possibility to achieve this via standard SAP methods ? (in rz20/rz21). I searched internet through and through, but I didn't find anything regarding this topic. Thank you all for your answers.

2019.11.04 16:33 Omega_Den CCMS operating system commands, or Zabbix?

Hi everyone !
I have a question.
Is there a possibility of getting some info from CCMS via operating system commands ?
Or is there a viable / official way supported by zabbix to monitor SAP CCMS ?
I know that there exists sapccmsget bu I don't want to use something so unoficcial / undocumented.
Thanks everyone for answer !

2019.08.18 02:31 Sosababby Will Quick Fix 6.2 pass a Quest Diagnostic Drug Test (6633N) SAP 10-50 GC/MS ?

For those who want a quick summary of the story. QUICK FIX 6.2 DID PASS THIS URINE ANALYSIS! I was called in Monday to fill out some paper work, and was informed Tuesday I would be summoned to Quest Diagnostics before 3pm to perform a drug test (10 panel drug test). So here I am, with a 24 hour deadline to find a way to pass this drug test, because my career was on the line if I failed this drug test. So I was shuffling through my options, and being a heavy smoker, I knew I couldn't detox my system before the 24 hour mark, so I decided to go with synthetic urine. My first instinct was to get a recommendation from a few friends to see what they would recommend, and it came between "UPass" and "Quick Fix". So I hit the internet and did some research, and saw Quick Fix had a lot of positive reviews, and they have an updated formula from QF 6.1. So I went to my local smoke shop and purchased QF 6.2 and had 12 hours before my drug test. *****HERES WERE I MESSED UP AT***** PLEASE make sure to always check your batch number before leaving the store, because most smoke shops have a All Sales Final policy. I got home and called the 1-800 to see when my batch expired, and sure enough, it expired one year ago. BUT they did inform me of a verifed purchaser of their products who purchased a large order from them 2 months ago. So here I am, 9am leaving to drive 2 hours to another smoke shop, only hoping that this batch of QF 6.2 works. So long story short I got a batch verified from the 1-800 number to be a "good batch" (means all the ingredidents are still active and will give you sastificatory results) and I followed the instructions to a tee. When I got to Quest Diagnostics, it was 2pm and I had my bottle rubberbanded to the heat warmer, tempature was reading 100 f . I wore two pair of compression shorts and placed it between them, underneath my jeans, walked in casually and signed in at 2pm, there was no line. 5 mins later I get called in the back, they ask me to verify my information and ID, 2:10pm I walk into the bathroom. They tell me to empty my pockets into a bin, which they were suppose to lock (but forgot too lol) and walked out of the bathroom. they put blue dye in the toilet and told me do not turn on the sink. You get 4 mins alone in the bathroom (doors are not locked) and they walked away. I pulled out the bottle between my leg quietly, read the tempature and it was at 100 degrees still. **WHEN YOU POUR IT INTO THE CUP, IT LOSES ~4 DEGREES** . The tempature read on the bottle 96 degrees, and as long as its between 90 - 100 degrees they legally have to accept it. I then just peed into the toilet and paused to make it seem like I peed in the cup, and put the bottle back between my legs (took 2 mins total). They took my cup and wrote the temp down, then poured it into another slim container, told me to flush the remains and wash my hands. I signed some paper work and went along my way. I kid you not, the results were posted 25 minutes later, and I passed!! Smoked a nice little celebatory blunt afterwards, super relived. A tip is if you're hit unexpectadley like I was, and don't have the time or money to go to their official website urineluck.com , I would call their 1-800 number and ask where can I buy your product in a store front, you may have to travel 2+ hours like me, but a $40 investment is worth your future/career! As long as you follow the instructions, verify your batch, and use the heat pad rubberbanded to the bottle 30 minutes before your test,YOU ARE GOLDEN. The hardest part is getting the tempature between 90-100, but if you keep the heat pad rubberbanded on the OPPOSITE side of the thermostat, you'll have it right at 98 degrees. Quick Fix 6.2 passed a 10 panel drug test with flying colors, hope this helps all. if you have questions ill respond to them in the comments. :)

2014.06.15 22:43 s4pp3r SAP Basis: How do you monitor/maintain your systems?

For companies that are running various SAP solutions, I'm curious what everyone does to monitor their landscapes.
*What product do you monitor? These could be ABAP, Java (SAP Portal), Business Objects, or any of the other products SAP makes.
*What do you check for? Do you purely check for running processes? Business process monitoring? Validate that you can actually login via RFC or ICM?
*What tools do you use? Some form of Nagios or other purely process-based monitoring? SAP Solution Manager? Built-in CCMS? A third-party tool?
To start things off, the company I work for has more than 10 landscapes with just about everything SAP makes. We use a mixture of Groundworks for filesystem and process monitoring, Solution Manager for SAP-specific areas, and Control-M which notifies us if batch jobs fail for any reason. We'd like to get more out of Solution Manager, but it takes a ton of effort to get anything setup and then you spend half your time fixing bugs or upgrading components as they get out of date incredibly fast.
Anything you think everyone else should be using that would make their lives much easier?
