Super Bowl Night I had some shots after work. I don’t even drink often and the one time I do I and ended up getting in a wreck about 2 blocks from home. A vehicle clipped me in the turning lane and took off! It ran me off the road and I passed out do the airbag. My phone and instar called the cops 🤦🏾‍♀️ so I ended up in jail. I kept refusing and a breathalyzer, but eventually ended up blowing. Got out & got a lawyer asap. Insurance said our brand new vehicle (which my bf used for work) would be covered since the other driver took off. Our first brand new truck broke down twice and warranty took care of it. When the new transmission went out on thanksgiving we ended up just getting a new truck. So it’s been hard for us to catch up. 4 months in and GAP is denying us because of my dui. I know I fucked up & I feel terrible.idk why I did that. I’m always the safe one and getting onto my bf for his drinking habits and driving bc we’re scared to loose him, but then IM THE one who fucked up. But every single day my bf gripes me out about it. Now we’re renting a work truck paying out of pocket bc insurance only covers so much. I’ve only been working weekends since I became a mom so I don’t make much. I can’t help as much as I’d like to. Now I’m pregnant with twins so my work time is limited. My partner is paying the majority of bills and it’s so hard to get a new vehicle. Everyday is a living hell. We can’t catch a break. He talks shit to me every single day. We fight so much. I can’t take it anymore. We’re stuck and I just don’t know what to do or who to talk to. He says we don’t have money but he’s at the bar every day after work making me late to work and sometimes I miss a whole shift. Luckily I’ve known my boss for a long time & he’s very understanding with my situation. So thankfully I still have a job. My bf constantly talks shit about my job but no other job would put up with this. I give him money anytime I have it and he still complains! Idk what to do I can’t help if I can’t work. Were the only ones who take care of our child so that’s why he works days and me nights. Sometimes I work evenings but the shifts are short. I work about 35 hours biweekly. What do I do? Nothing I say to him works. Nothing I do is good enough.

2024.06.05 18:12 Old_Importance_1844 AITA for keeping contact with my sister and her family to the minimum and not want to travel with them?

Background story: I planned a trip to Disneyland Paris for more than 1 year, it was supposed to be a small and fun 4 days trip for me (29f), my mother (62) and my brother (17). We live together and support each other ever since my dad died.
My brothers birthday was during this trip so it was also meant as his birthday gift.
We wanted to fully pamper ourselves after a row of sad impacts over the past years so I booked a big family club room (which could host 6 persons with 2 Queen beds and 2 sofa beds) and all inclusive perks. Everything was done and booked. (I paid about 1.800€ which would be roughly 1.959$)
My sister (40) found out about the trip. Our mom asked her if she wants to tag along with my niece (3). My sister said she would think about it. I was fine with it cause we still had a bit more than 6 months till that trip so I told her that I could still make changes and include them to our room. She was fine with it.
For weeks she didn't talk about the trip but then suddenly 2 months before she wanted to go but also include her husband (55). So I wanted to add 2 adults and child to our room, the difference they had to pay would've been about 250€ (272$) but then my sister and brother in law insisted on having their own room.
I called the support and asked about booking changes. I was told that there were no free club rooms or standard rooms in our chosen hotel anymore. So I asked them to look for standard rooms in another hotel which would be without the all inclusive off but instead half board. The difference to pay was about 800€ (870$). I paid it because I knew my sisters family was struggling financially and told them the difference was 450€ (489$).
My sister knew it was way more than that cause she looked the prices up on the website beforehand and told me about their struggles and that it was too expensive for them. She also told me that they've already told my niece about going to 'minnie mouse land' and that the little girl was looking forward to see minnie mouse so I helped them out by lowering the amount for them to pay and covering everything else.
During the trip it was hell.
My sister and bil were constantly arguing. About everything. Their hotel room was too small, they were disappointed that I changed the booking from the 4 star hotel to a 3 star one, the breakfast was not to their taste, not being able to smoke inside the park etc.
They constantly said they won't buy so much in the shops for my niece but ending up buying a LOT spending hundreds of euros. Well not my money and not my business but it was a strange feeling seeing them splurge money like this while I was told they were struggling financially.
Then they started to call us out for spending money on ourselves (mom bought a bag, a snowglobe and sunglasses, I bought 2 keychains, a snowglobe and a plush toy, my brother bought his girlfriend a bracelet) instead of buying nice things for my niece. It got to the point that my brother was afraid of spending his money on things for himself, sometimes when I saw that he wanted something I bought it for him. Causing my sister to make remarks about "how cute we were... just like a married couple." My sister always makes such remarks so we were used by it and just shrugged it off.
(For context: my brother is the son my late stepdad brought in from his previous marriage but for me it doesn't matter he is my brother and his dad was my dad.)
Then we found out that my bil got my brother drunk who is still a MINOR with not just beer but hard liquor and making my brother pay the drinks with his own pocketmoney and half-orphan's pension. He did all this behind my moms and my back under the guise of 'looking after him back at the hotel' so we could do 'lady stuff'. My mom was so pissed and told my sister that she doesn't want her husband being alone with her son anymore. My sisters opinion was that we were overreacting.
We stayed another day in paris and went to eat at a restaurant, my sister and bil insisted on choosing. We all ordered food, while me, my mom, brother and sister chose food at a reasonable price my bil chose the most expensive dish from the card plus a lot of beer. In the end they wanted me to pay half of the bill even if they spent more than us. I paid because arguing would've been embarassing and it was getting on my nerves.
On the day when we were heading back home I forgot to draw cash from the atm and my bil paid the restaurant bill. Afterwards he confronted me and wanted me to pay him back. To keep the peace till we were finally home I searched for the next atm and gave him 100 bucks.
(this isn't the only time this happened, it was the same for other day trips to zoos or amusement parks and even when they come to visit us at home.)
Ever since that trip my sister texts me to join their trips to wherever they want to go and sends me the calculated costs expecting me to pay. They tell me I have to come and babysit my niece during the time so they can have some alone time. Because I'm single and it's my job as an aunt to spend both money and time on my baby niece.
However when I told them I don't have time or don't feel like going on trips, everyone (except for my mom and brother) say that I'm a bad aunt who doesn't care about my niece. That I should support family. But the worst is that my sister always sends her daughter to me to ask if I can do this or that. Knowing it's harder to say no to a disappointed 3 year old on the verge of crying.
This caused me to feel pressured and I willingly accept working overtime and shifts on weekends and holidays just to avoid having to spend time with them. Our current contact is reduced to phonecalls and us sending birthday, christmas gifts or some small things in between for my niece.
AITA for keeping contact with my sister and her family to the minimum and tell them I don't want to travel with them?

This is taken from and is copyright protected by globalsoup.net, a website that promotes flash Fiction with annual writing contests.
I am reprinting these Flash Fiction Prompts because they are outstanding ways to freewrite and offer plenty to work with for those who want to learn how to write Flash Fiction.
So check out these prompts and the article and work some of them into your journal! Post the best responses!
100 Awesome Flash Fiction Prompts - Plus Bonus Prompts!
We’ve put together 100 flash fiction prompts, each one designed for a very short story. These prompts will probably be best suited to a story of between 300-1,000 words. If you want to write a longer story using these prompts, you can easily expand these ideas to fit a story of any length.
What is flash fiction?
Flash Fiction is defined as a very short story that can be anywhere from just a couple of words to about a thousand in length. The beauty (and difficulty) of writing flash fiction lies in trying to tell a complete story in so few words. Great flash fiction is succinct, emotive, thought-provoking, and impactful.
What’s the difference between flash fiction and a short story?
The only difference between flash fiction and a typical short story is the word count. However, this scarcity of words means that writing flash fiction can feel like a completely new skill. Just like the short story is a different animal to the novel or novella; flash fiction is kind of unique.
When writing flash, you’ll need to use fewer characters, a simpler plot, and you’ll have to make each word count. This is why editing is so important. You have to be brutal. Cut out everything superfluous and really make sure each and every word is performing an important function in the story. If you’re interested in writing very short fiction, why not check out drabbles? Drabbles are stories of exactly 100 words in length, and they can be a great way to practice keeping your stories very, very short.
How to plot a flash fiction story
When you sit down to write flash fiction, you must begin by choosing an appropriate plot. You cannot simply use a short story plot and tell it using fewer words. A typical flash fiction plot is like looking at one part of a story under a microscope.
For example, let’s look at prompt #21 in our list of 100 Flash Fiction Prompts:
  1. Two people on a sinking ship must decide who should take the last seat in the last lifeboat. If you were writing a novel about a sinking ship, you’d probably want the actual sinking to be the climax of the story. Of course, there are infinite ways to write a novel about a sinking ship, but this would structurally be the most obvious. You’d use the first part of the novel to introduce your characters and describe the voyage leading up to the sinking and the sinking of the ship would be the dramatic climax, leaving the last part of the book as the resolution.
The golden rule of writing short stories is to begin as close to end as you can. So, to turn the same story from novel to short story, you’d probably want to begin with the ship sinking. You haven’t got time to introduce the characters before the action begins, so you’d need to feed in exposition and backstory here and there during the events.
All stories need a good climax. So, you would find the most dramatic moment in the story and build up to it. Perhaps your climax would be the two main characters having to decide who will take the remaining seat on the last lifeboat.
Finally, you need a resolution. In a longer short story you do have time to bring in some kind of satisfying resolution at the end.
But, if you’re writing flash fiction and your story is only a few hundred words, you really need to zoom in on one tiny moment in that story.
You don’t have time to tell the entire story of a sinking ship, but you can turn one moment into a story.
We’ve chosen the lifeboat situation as the key moment in this hypothetical story. Two characters must decide which one of them will take the last seat on the last lifeboat. This is an appropriate plot for flash fiction because it’s simple, high-stakes, dramatic, and thought provoking.
Not all flash fiction will have a plot quite this dramatic, but all great flash fiction will have a plot that can be expressed in just one or two sentences.
If you have a plot in mind, but it seems more suitable for a longer story, you can sometimes find several flash fiction plots hidden within it. Just look for little stories within the story, like the lifeboat moment in our hypothetical tale of the sinking ship.
This brings us to our top tip for coming up with ideas for flash fiction stories:
if you’re ever stuck for ideas, you can find little stories within the story in books, movies, and TV shows. A full length feature film might have as many as 20 little incidents in it that could easily be flash fiction.
Don’t directly write a story based on the film, though. Just carefully pick out those little moments, write down what’s happening as a one or two sentence plot, and then use it to inspire your own, completely original flash fiction story.
One of our 100 Flash Fiction Prompts was actually taken from the movie Pulp Fiction!
How to write very short flash fiction
There are several reasons writers might start writing flash fiction. Of course, it could be that they just love and enjoy the form, but sometimes they’ll be a more strategic and practical reason at play.
Perhaps they want to practise the process of writing stories within the confines of a certain word limit. Maybe they are trying to develop a daily writing routine and they don’t have a lot of free time. It could be that they’re trying to break a habit of not finishing writing projects, or perhaps they are entering a flash fiction competition.
Whatever the reason, very often when we sit down to write flash, we must work under an imposed or self-imposed word restraint. We’ve set ourselves (or been set) the task of keeping the story under a particular number of words.
So, how do you plot a flash fiction story when you have to keep your story very, very short.
We’re not going to discuss stories of 100 words or fewer here. Technically, those stories are still flash, however, we prefer to categorise 100 word stories as drabbles and anything under 100 words as micro fiction.
But what if you have to keep your flash fiction story under, let’s say, 300 words? How do you write a flash fiction story that short?
The answer is: get your microscope out again. Remember earlier when we said writing flash fiction is like looking at part of a story under a microscope? If you have to write very short flash fiction, you’ll need to zoom in even further.
Let’s look at a couple of examples from our 100 Flash Fiction Prompts:
  1. During a match, a young boxer must decide whether to throw the fight.
If you had 1,000 words to devote to the story, you could have time to tell the story of the entire fight. With only 300 words, it might be better to zoom in on the very moment when the boxer must choose whether or not to go down.
In a longer flash fiction story you might have time to go into detail about why he’s in this situation and why he’s so conflicted. In a 300 word story, you might only devote one or two sentences to his gambling debt and the large sum of money waiting for him if he goes down in the third round, as instructed.
  1. A family must decide what to take and what to leave behind as a wildfire approaches their home.
If you had 1,000 words to devote to this story, you might be able to write about the whole process of choosing what to take and what to leave behind. You might be able to mention many different choices and have the whole family participate in the story. You’d be able to go into some details about certain choices and the stories behind individual objects or mementos, as well as the implications of choosing certain things over others.
With only 300 words, it would be advisable to zoom in on one member of the family and to focus on one profound and important choice.
How to write a flash fiction story
Now you have your mini plot, you still need to make sure your flash fiction feels like a complete story. It should still have a beginning, middle, and an end.
Just like a short story, you may need to bring in a little exposition here and there to give texture, context, backstory, and to bring some depth to the characters. But, unlike a short story, you won’t necessarily need to end with a full, detailed resolution. It’s quite common for a flash fiction story to end with a quick twist or plenty of ambiguity.
Flash Fiction is much more about eliciting emotions and provoking thought, than setting up and resolving a complex story.

2024.06.05 18:12 evenafteryouregone The new guy at work is getting investigated for sexually harassing me. Need advice.

The newest guy at my work has been here maybe 5 months. I have been here a month or two shy of 2 years. When he got hired I did what I always do, introduce myself and provide my contact information in case we need to reach each other outside of work for work related reasons and we did.
In addition to just that we began talking and became what I thought was friends but he would flirt with me and rumours started at work that he liked me. So I jokingly one day after his flirting told him “just say you like me at this point” and he did, he wrote a paragraph. I told him that where I did like him too I would not date him because we work together. This would go on, we would talk about other things and remain again what I thought was friends but he would bring up liking me and I’d say no I can’t do that I can’t date you. I said maybe if we met outside of work or one of us leaves but I don’t plan on going and you just got here.
This kept going until the actual incident I reported for harassment. He told me (texted me so I have screenshots) that he wanted to kiss me at work on the cheek but didn’t do it because a coworker was there. I told him that if he tried to do that I would slap him. He told me that he knew that would be a possible reaction but he still wanted to “take the risk”. I clarified that “you wanted to kiss me knowing I would slap you but you still wanted to do it?” And he said yes. I told him please do not do that. That ended us texting and talking other than work. I felt mixed feelings at that point so I blocked it out of my mind hoping it would go away.
Then I started dating someone outside of work and it seemed as if his whole attitude towards me shifted. He began seeing me as what I can only determine as competition. He would check sales records of everyone in the office and then tell them how much more he’s sold than them. Or at least he did that to me. But I caught him checking records many times for myself and others sales and he is not supposed to do so as the lowest ranking employee and the newest. He would close the program if someone was walking towards him. He knew he wasn’t supposed to do that.
I brought this to attention of my manager alongside what else he has been doing to me (taking my sales or tasks without telling or asking me) after I told him personally to stop it multiple times and he did not and the manager (surprise) did nothing.
After that the workplace got fairly toxic and I had two other coworkers who had also experienced sour events with him, not harassment but undermining those employees who have been there years in front of customers etc. We had another employee go to the manager for his behaviour but surprise again the manager did nothing.
Then this guy started not showing up to work for days in a row and the manager asked us, who happened to be all three of us with problems about him why he isn’t showing up and these others knew about my experience with him and began talking so I was like alright time to tell the manager about the harassment.
I would have told her sooner but she did not do anything the other times I told her so I didn’t think she would now. I also thought it would just go away but instead it was getting worse. I felt so many emotions and the biggest was embarrassment and regret.
She said she would talk to him and the solution she came up with was that he would work only days she works and she would keep an eye on him. I told her “so you’re going to babysit him”. This was after she spoke to both of us and the guy told manager that oh it was a joke and I apologized to her for it. Firstly, he did not apologize and did not seem like a joke. I told her I feel unsafe going into work knowing someone may try to come on to me against my wishes. She did basically nothing. She went as far as to tell another coworker that oh OP isn’t going to the boss for this.
So I told my boss and he is starting a formal investigation where the investigator will talk to both of us. Boss said he wanted to be unbiased and hire an outside investigator for this. I did tell him everything and how I felt which is very depressed, can’t sleep, can’t tell anyone etc. He gave me the company resource for therapy. He was sweet and he listened. He told me he is finding out about employment standards and calling his lawyer too.
A lot of it can be seen as the employer covering his own ass which he is and has every right to but I also think he is doing right by me and even gave me time to think about it before moving forward and I have decided to do so.
What to I do now? What do I need to do to get my ducks in a row. I did bring up the possibility of firing him for this since people have been fired at this place for far less. But I also mentioned I would feel bad for that but better if he’s gone. I don’t want to be alone with him I feel unsafe.

2024.06.05 18:11 Puzzleheaded-Cup7759 AITA for being defiant with my manager?

This happened back in March when I used to work at a fast food place.
St. Patrick’s Day was around the corner and our boss told us that on the day of the week before and the day of, we could wear green shirts, pants, hats, etc. Aside from that, for the rest of the month, we could wear small green things, like buttons or bowties. I asked her if green eye shadow would be acceptable and she said yes.
After she left, I went to Dollar Tree while I was on break and bought an eye shadow palette. When I came back, I told my assistant manager and shift supervisor (her name was Hannah) that I got an eye shadow palette and explained to them that the boss said I could wear green eye shadow in honor of St. Patrick’s Day and so that’s what I was gonna do. They both were like, “okay, cool.”
I went to the break room in the back and started putting it on. Then I discovered that I had to clock back in, so I did, and from there, I tried doing my job as quickly and efficiently as possible so that way, I could create a dead spot for myself to go back there and finish. I was hurrying and scurrying, here and there. Hannah noticed this and, pulling a 180, told me in front of everyone that I wasn’t going to the back to go put on makeup.
“Well, I have to finish,” I said. “It’s not done.”
“No, you’re not putting it on. Go take it off.”
“No, I don’t want to, and I shouldn’t have to. The boss told me that I could do this, and besides, what harm is it doing to you?”
“I feel like you’re only doing this to get a rise out of me. You’ll wear it here, but you wouldn’t wear it at a parts store.” (I told her that I had applied for one before this incident.)
Once again, I told her that I was doing this because the boss said we could wear small green things and that green eye shadow counts as such. I wasn’t doing this to get a rise out of her or anybody. Also, I said that not every workplace will allow to dress up for holidays, because every place has different rules.
“sT. PAtrICk’S iS nOt A hOliDaY.”
“Yes, it is.”
Then she called me stupid for thinking that and said I looked ridiculous with it on, especially with it being halfway done. How are you going to tell someone they can’t go to the back to fix their appearance and then ridicule them for it not even five minutes later?
Also, she tried gaslighting me by saying that the boss didn’t give me permission to do this, when A) I had that exact conversation with her earlier that day and B) Hannah wasn’t there. She said she didn’t believe me and she was gonna call her right then and there to see if I was telling the truth.
“Fine. Go ahead and call her. She’ll just tell you the same stuff I am.”
Sure enough, she did, because a few minutes later, Hannah approached me and I asked her what she said. Her response? “Go put your makeup on, Taylor.” I said thank you and went to the break room to finish at last. While I was doing that, I could hear her say to everyone else, “We’re gonna end up on Facebook because of him.” Also, I could’ve heard wrong, so I’m 100% sure, but I think she called me a transphobic slur.

2024.06.05 18:07 Big_Guard_3 They fired me cause coworker wanted to harm me

So i had the canonic opportunity to recommend My Best friend in My job and we worked togerher for a year or so. He always had the habit of blaming working errors all on me, trying to show a good image of himself to the boss.
So last week he started blaming me on thrash not being put at it's place, and i responded proving it was his thrash, and out of spite i said to him "You should start helping your dad cleaning up his house of You think You are such a tidy person".
Next step, he is threathening to harm me with a knife if i show up to work. I explain the situation to the boss and i sent her the screenshots of the threats, and all she says to me is that she thinks it is a very unproffessional thing that i didn't advice her that i would need to be absent from work with days of anticipation, and told me i could come back 4 days later. (I thought she was going to do something about My co worker i'm that time).
So i went back next week and she directly fired me with My coworker being present there. The motive explicit in the letter says "thinking about your well being, considerating You Say You feel unsafe to come to the workplace and given the situation that we can't take responsability on You if You suffer any accident in the workplace, we're decided to dispense with your services".
This workplace didn't give us a contract, we don't have any kind of insurance or medical services, legal benefits or festive days off, and it is an 8 workday week before getting one day off. All of the payments are lend by hand without a receipt.
I feel like i could be the asshole because of what i said to My ex Best friend and because i somewhat tried to asked for something to My boss that i knew she wasn't gonna give. Also i never grave up or tried to de-escalate the situation because i felt everyone was against me. What do You think?

I got stuck in a very bad torturing company??? Please help
I'm from India and I'm totally new here. I got a job two months back as a civil engineer with 2.5k aed pm salary. My boss is literally forcing me to work 12 plus hours a day including Sunday with no week off or leave. I fainted three weeks back on site due to physically illness and the doctor advised me to take two days rest. But my boss called me on the second day and scolds me for not working hard enough.. from then I worked two weeks straight even on Sundays with no holidays and overtime pay. And I called for a off today because I was very tire physically and mentally. Today he calls my mother and says that I'm insincere for the work and enquires wether I have interest in work or not. I'm a reverted Muslim and he gives comments about my religion on a bad way. I seriously feel very stressed and I don't even know what to do. My family depends on my salary. Please advise regarding the issue.

2024.06.05 18:05 mikerpiker Idea: Seneschal loot gobbling buddy and gold multiplier

Say they bring back the seneschal buddy but he doesn't do anything in combat this time. There are four levels you need to reach with him: 1. Gobble common, 2. Gobble magic, 3. Gobble rare, 4. Gobble (non greater) legendaries.
He gobbles and gobbles but never spits anything out at you. To get the reward, you have to kill Echo of Malphas (no summoning mats necessary).
Before you kill Malphas, you choose how difficult the fight will be. There are 3 levels: one equivalent to the normal uber bosses (e.g. normal Varshan), one equivalent to a NMD 100 boss, one equivalent to the tormented bosses.
After the fight, your buddy vomits up gold (or mats, your choice) from all of the items you fed it, multiplied by 1 (for the lowest level), 2 for the mid level, 3 for the highest level.

2024.06.05 18:04 Dramatic-Pause-1841 Should I ask for a raise?

Hello everyone,
Help a girl out, please. Turned 23, first real job.
To add a bit of context:
I've been working for my company for over a year now, it is realistically my first actual job (only had an internship before it).
So my role is called "technical analyst", I work in the automotive industry in a engineering department and my activity comprises fixing errors, doing BOM manipulations, lots of Excel, checking impacts and whatnot; I also work a bit in SAP, sadly I mostly only create purchase requests or use it to check for info.
The thing is, my "team" is only me and that was okeish I guess, in the beginning I only had assigned one plant and theoretically it's the only one I should have had. But then I got another one as a "derogation", it was right before my annual interview during which I was offered a 11% raise I think and lots of "praises" & promises for a new, more challenging activity in the coming year, because I have "a lot of potential" + a slight hint at a management position.
I haven't said anything about the new responsibility of another plant, as they said it was an exception and I only created like 600 pieces total for it. Which I did way faster than normal - that's my fault.
But today I had a meeting in which I was told I will get a third new plant, possibly a fourth also. Because the guys from the company I work for through mine, said there should be something done for me to be able to treat anything I get. This happened after getting a delusional timewise request for something I didn't even have the access for - coming from one of the big bosses there (I often get things that aren't part of my scope, but I still verify everything and offer info anyway, about where the impact comes from, what I imagine should be fixed. I even provide the user ids of the persons that did that stuff and prolly know better and can help, which is detective work that realistically wastes my time)
All in all, I work with a lot of people and the environment is super stressful and very pressuring. But I adapted myself to it and I got to the point where I remember almost everything about anything specific, even if it happened a year ago and I also always find a way to fix stuff. Most of the people I work with seem to like me as many have gone out of their way to thank me for fixing things but also for my my reactivity.
Now the issue is... my salary (even with that increase) is a joke. No offense, but I make less than a cashier (in my country, their salary is low everywhere). I feel like it's unfair as I do a lot work and analysis; so even if now I know how to manipulate most of the things to fix stuff, my training was shit when I got here and I had to reteach myself everything (because what they used to do was wrong). So I basically learned everything through trial and error and through asking dumb questions. It took like 7 months.
Apart from these things I also rewrite all the technical documentation for my perimeter and sometimes my manager sends people to me so I explain them stuff. I always have done what I said I would do and I'm always down to help if I can.
Sorry for this wall of text, but I honestly don't even know. Do I even deserve a raise? From one plant - I will get to 3, possibly 4. My manager said that if I don't have time at all to treat the stuff I'd get, to either negociate a deadline or let them know I couldn't do it. So idk, I doubt I will actually be able to say "no". But then again, maybe I won't even get much stuff. I don't know.
For reference, the person that was before me on this role was an actual engineer (I'm no engineer), I had to fix months of her work. She was also helped by another colleague from time to time, but also, she didn't even do as many manipulations as I've learned to do so far, because she just thought "we couldn't" and people didn't really rely on her; she never once got things as complicated as I do now. And she only had the plant I had initially too.
Would really love some advice because I feel like I'm taken advantage of in a way, but also I got quite an impostor syndrome too and think that maybe I don't even deserve a decent salary and that maybe I'm feeling entitled.
TL;DR: from treating requests for one plant -> to 3 plants, no raise apart from the annual one (march) which makes no difference.
Thank you,

2024.06.05 18:04 Flat_Outside7044 Prismatic Chest requiring a special key, Lost City (Outskirts)

not sure how well known this is yet but i just discovered this myself. first off, the location for the this is the left most side of Pale Heart. the chest at the big ghost needs a special key, to get the key, you have to to investigate random ghosts. youll be near one when you ghost beeps and displays his icon in the top right of your screen, pull your ghost out and he will face in the direction of where the to go. after interacting there will be text above your super saying "a lost ghost has been found" after the 4th-5th ghost you find, another text line will appear and say "a ghost crys out" (something like that). go down to the beach where the chest is where there are more ghosts that will be alongside a capture plate, do that then kill the boss dude and youll get the key to open the chest for a prismatic fragment. i got facet of mending

2024.06.05 18:02 BookerTea3 Did I drop the ball?

I am currently working in a HEO role, having been newly appointed.
I work in a Department and one of the Heads of the Department gave a presentation to about 12 of us. I don't even know his grade, but there are at least 4 layers of management between himself and I - more than likely more.
During the presentation, the Head mentioned he envisaged people at the top of the department being Chartered and/or holding an MSc. He was very passionate in saying this was his vision and there would be a number of research areas they want to investigate to transform the Department.
I am currently doing a MSc through a scholarship. I realised that I would probably never get this facetime again, so I mentioned it and I told him I wanted to use work as part of my dissertation. Essentially, I have to decide in the next month or so what my project will be in. I have already completed the taught modules. The MSc is in a niche area, which coincidently is something the Department is crying out for. He was very keen for me to look at an aspect of the business using my MSc, and I've got carte blanche in which area, which I need to agree with one of his senior team. It will be service development focused.
So, it suits the business. Great for them. It helps me do something tangible with my dissertation and gets me noticed. Great for me.
I have no concerns about my skills - I will crush it.
But......I probably should have okay this with my line manager, right?
I dropped her a message. She was aware that I wanted to do something work related. I've also mentioned about work coming first, as quite frankly that's what's keeping me employed.
I have a one to one with her tomorrow. I was going to invite her to my one to one with the Big Boss' team member.
Any advice? I feel a bit bad about going over her head, but tbh I got a bit excited. Still am excited about it tbh.

I miss him. Every morning, I get my strength to get up from avenging him. Since the day of his death, I can't pull myself together, losing everything I ever had to someone I don't even know. The lost of my city felt nothing as my home was already taken from me a year before it.
I hoped he became a part of the statistics of the bombing, but he somehow escaped here to Venlil Prime. I searched every camp on this planet, and just when we finally found him...
That damned psychopath escaped!?
Helped by two unidentified venlil, who the fuck are these. These aliens who faints when a human sneeze, somehow helping a 'predator' escape. According to the data, those two isn't part of the exchange program, so why would they help him.
Reading his file. Updating it on our data. There's no point on asking why, just find him.

"Come in."
Director Harman walked in, carrying a brown envelope. "Good evening, Soledad." She said with a smile.
I stand up and gave a salute. "Good evening, Ma'am Harman."
"At ease Soledad, no need to be so formal." She teased. "I came here as a friend."
"Yes ma'am." I said, trying to pull myself together. "May I know why you're here in my office?"
"I should be the one asking you that, officer. I didn't saw you take a Christmas break. You should be at home spending time with your loved once."
I don't have one. "I plan on celebrating Christmas a week late, ma'am." I said with a smile.
"Hard working huh?" She giggled. "Is it for promotion or to do good?"
I don't care about money. "A mix of the two, but mostly on the latter." I said with a smile.
"You look tired."
Tired of everything. "Nothing a goodnight sleep can fix, but that's after I'm done with this." I said with a smile.
"Don't you want a new location? This place seems to be suffocating for you."
Huh? "What do you mean, ma'am?"
She hands her envelope. A department transfer letter?

"The cute little guys over there agreed on a joint operation with us. We help them, and they'll help us." She spoke. "We are sending Human Officers to work under them, in case they froze in place."
Unable to say a word, still looking at the paper.
"Well, that's all for now, I'll take my leave." As she's about to close the door, she added "Oh, by the way. Merry Christmas, Soledad. I hope you find what you're looking for."
Finally snapping back in reality, I replied.
"Oh- Merry Christmas, ma'am."

Memory Transcription Subject: Brono, Venlil Exterminator
There's no way, right? There's just no way!
Two days after the stampede, Hlumi made an announcement that there will be three humans that will be joining our guild. They will come today, and will be introducing themselves in front of the guild. Everyone was worried with his sudden decision...
"Huh!? You want us to work with them!?"
"Are you insane!? First you ban flamethrowers and now this!?"
"Rest assured, I'll take full responsibility for what these Human will do that will damage the guild's reputation."
"You're diseased!"
"If you think I'm tainted then go ahead and prove it."
"..."
"If no one's going to step up and try then this meeting is over."
Humans, three of them, working as an exterminator. There's no way, this is just a coincidence, right?
"Today's the day, are you ready Brono?"
Yesterday he said he was being assigned to an Exterminator guild. It has to be just a coincidence!
"Brono?"
THERE'S NO WAY MY EXCHANGE PARTNER IS GOING TO BE MY COWORKER!
"BRONO!"
"AAAAAHHH! WHAT?" Snapping back, I'm with Rossur and Krasim at the meeting room.
"Are you okay? You've been quiet all day." Rossur asked me in concern.
"I'm - I'm fine, just scared, you know, humans as exterminators..."
"Sacred!? What kind of fear are you feeling to make your face orange?" Krasim replied.
"It's nothing okay!? I'm just trying to calm myself."
Rossur signed. "Honestly, since you've 'meet with' that human in person, you've been acting weird."
"Maybe that damned predator did something to you. Are you brain washed? Are you still Brono? What did you gave to me on my last birthday?" Krasim added.
"I'm fine! I told you he was nice. He wasn't some savage who would go around eating people in sight."
"Saying 'he's nice' and we haven't even meet him yet." Rossur replied. "I swear if I saw him..."
"You'll do what?" Krasim jokingly asked.
"Something! There's gotta be a way to stop the mind control."
"Shut up! Look, Hlumi is starting." Trying to change the topic.
Hlumi is in the front of the room, on the right there is a door, where the humans will come in.
"The new members of our guild will enter the room one by one, and make a short introduction. I want your best behaviour in place. Alright, let's start."
The first human entered. He's black haired, tan, and a bit short for a human. He introduced himself.
"Goodday, I am Reyes Soledad, 30 years old, with 7 years of experience working as an Police Officer. You can call me Reyes." The man spoke, with a calm tone of voice.
Next, another human entered, he's taller than the first guy, and he's wearing something in his eyes.
"Hello, I'm Land. 29. Graduate in forensics science. Working for 5 years. Pleased to meet you." He said, in a serious tone of voice.
"Why are you wearing that?" Said Trowl.
"To make me see better."
"A predator with bad eyesight!?" Said Frimm.
"Please refrain form making rude comments during the introduction." Hlumi stopped them. "The next human please."
The next human, he's- HE'S HERE!?
"Hi! My name is Erik Smith. 27 years old and worked as a Police officer for 3 years. Nice to meet you all." He said joyously, while his eyes scanning the audience.
Why is he here, why is he here, why is he here.
"Look at him." Krasim whispered. "Scanning us, hungry, ready to atta- are you blooming?"
"Do- do you know him, Brono?" Rossur added.
"N- no! Of course not! This is the first time I've seen him."
Finally he saw me, he waved a hand towards me and smiled.
"Did he- did he waved at you?"
You fucking idiot!
"They will be working here for the meantime. Don't worry, it's not permanent. If you got any questions with them, feel free to ask. If not, then let's dismiss. Please return to your respective duties." Hlumi announced.
Everyone started to leave the room, except for the three of us, and Erik, who went straight toward us.
"Brono! I can't believe it, we're gonna be coworkers!" He said happily, not reading the damn room. "So I'm guessing these two are Rossur and Krasim. Hi! I'm Erik, Brono's exchange partner. She told me a lot about you!"
This is so embarrassing!
"So you're the one mind controlling Brono!" Rossur replied.
"Hah?"
"You're the reason why she doesn't come during our movie time!" Krasim added. "What did you do to our Brono!?"
"SHUT UUUP!"

2024.06.05 17:58 Economy_Squirrel8677 Why is it so hard to not take part in diet culture?

First of all, I am sorry if I am not doing this right. It's my first real topic on Reddit, English isn't my first language and I really don't mean to trigger anyone.
So trigger warning: diet experiences, disordered eating
I guess my biography is not so different from many of you: I have always been fatter than other kids, other teens, other adults. I have dieted many times, two times with significant but not lasting weight loss and weight gain. Surprise, surprise. After the last time I started questioning myself, after everyone except for one colleague congratulated me for my weight loss. Colleague didn't, she asked me if it was intentional and if I was okay. That stunned me and also shifted my view on what was going on.
After that I stumbled over someone recommending this podcast and read books on the topic. Many, many books. I read articles. I read studies (I work in academia, so it has also been my job, though my bosses always took for granted that high weight means unhealthy and the like... There is lots of stigma to unpack in academia).
Anyways, it's not what bothers me recently.
I really appreciate the podcast and many other people's efforts to debunk dieting, "healthy" eating, "healthy" lifestyle, finding the new holy grail of becoming and staying thin, and so on and so forth. I really see that they have a point, or even lots of points that make a lot of sense as well. I also know that many times when correlations are found, media and health gurus present them as causation facts and that many people fall for it. I see the societal norms. I see where dieting stems from. I see and reflect on it. I know this. In my mind.
But I don't feel it.
I keep asking myself, what if I am wrong and all that diet talk is right in the end? What if all the discriminating talk about fat people (so me) is correct? What if I'm just - we say "advice-resistant", so just don't want to listen to their well-meaning words (which hurt but okay...)?
Am I alone struggling with that? I don't think so. How do you get on with that?
I've already identified triggering factors that make me feel completely wrong and guilty and want me start dieting asap. It's family gatherings (no surprise as I have a pretty hard time with my family in other things as well) and doctor's appointments. As many of you, I also experienced a lot of weight stigma from doctors, claiming that it's all because of my weight. No matter what. Even a stupid cold. (Can't change GPs, though, as other doctors won't take any new patients.)
Sometimes I feel like fighting a constant war with myself and societal norms. It's just so hard that diet talk is everywhere, that losing weight is the norm, that if you don't participate, stereotypes come up (often combined with some, "But I don't mean you since you eat healthy and workout.") - even among people who know and research health concepts, queerness, racism. It's so tiring. It's annoying. And then again I'm asking myself if I am wrong and why I won't just give in. And sometimes I also think that I shouldn't complain because I think that a lot of you are struggling more than I do and experience a lot more stigma than me (which doesn't make it right, don't get me wrong).
So, how do you get on with that? What helps you?

I just messaged my crush on snap on her birthday, and I want advice. I’m one of her classmates, but I wouldn’t consider me her friend yet.
This is the conversation so far:
Me
happy birthday
Her
Thank you
I wanted to follow her up with “you’re welcome, what plans do you have for it,” but I don’t know if it’s appropriate with the level of relationship I have with her. So should I just say “you’re welcome” by itself, or can I say the full thing I wanted to say?

2024.06.05 17:57 cuteness_dc Buying birthday cake for myself

Not sure if this is the right sub but here goes. It's my birthday, and I'm 27 today. While I consciously believe there is nothing sad and weird about buying your own birthday cake, somewhere deep down I do feel it's kinda embarrassing.
So I went to pick up my birthday cake from the bakery. I choose my own birthday cake every year but buy it with my family. And I usually buy them supermarkets, not bakeries and hence don't really engage in long conversations with the staff members. But today was different. The storekeeper was incredibly sweet, and we really had a good conversation. But I didn't expect myself to mentally panic when she asked me who the cake was for and then the name to be written on the cake. I told her it is for someone of my age. And towards the end of the conversation, she asked me my name and I blurted out half of my real first name (which was also written on the cake), which is when I realized I fucked up real bad. I tried to save that by saying that's my brother's name and ended up mentioning my middle name as my name. She seemed to have bought it but I dunno if she truly believed me.
I'm so disappointed in myself that I lied about something so stupid to a stranger who was just so supportive and wouldn't have judged anyway. And the store was so empty with no other customer present while I was there. Just how shitty this interaction made me realize that there is nothing to be ashamed of while buying my own birthday cake, and I'm never gonna lie about that ever again.

2024.06.05 17:56 Classic-Procedure990 I got stuck in a very bad torturing company???

Please advise regarding the issue

2024.06.05 17:56 Sunny-CA-1984 Need to know if I am overreacting

Going to start this off with that I have been with my significant other for over 20 years. When we first started dating she read a very private note I gave him. Yes he was still living with her. She proceeded to tell my then SIL about said note. Fast forward some years and a few snide remarks here and there. She makes a comment while I was pregnant with my 4th that “I was going to drop out of college and live in welfare”. (I was working full time in my field of study and to stick it to her I finished my associates and bachelors degree. Still working in that field to this day.) More stupid comments until my final straw. A little over a year ago she made a comment while my SO was in the ICU unit for a severe accident and on antibiotics, in front of a infectious disease doctor “Will he be able to go home to your guys house, is it even clean enough”. Mind you my house is clean but we do have 4 kids and she never comes over except for birthday parties. I now want no part of her and am being told I am overreacting. She is a New Englander and they make sarcastic comments. (I live in NE but originally from the West Coast). I should also say her MIL (my SO’s grandmother) made a similar comment and she was pissed about it. I have heard about the comment over the years. So I guess Am I overreacting for wanting nothing to do with her? I will say I usually try and be busy in the days she comes over, which is about twice a month.

2024.06.05 17:54 Sheeker389 D&D is balanced, you're just not playing RAW/RAI

To preface, this applies to 3e onwards, but will focus mainly of 5e because that's what most of us play, and for most editions only for the first few books. Older editions were deliberately unbalanced, but that was a design choice. In 3.x as in 5e (4e is THE most balanced game, but it's also more of a miniature war game than an RPG) the game is balanced around 8 to 10 combat encounters per long rest. Though I believe the 5e books say 6 to 8, the designers said on a few occasions that it was 8 to 10, 4 to 5 short rests, and only THEN a long rest. Obviously harder encounters count for more. But I see this... Everywhere. YouTubers, Reddit, on Discord servers.
This includes CR. If enemies of an appropriate CR are weak it's because players aren't afraid to waste resources and then they get a short or long rest anyways. So they never have to worry about it. This makes high level enemies (and thus adventures) dangerous and exciting. It makes bosses harder because players don't get to have all their resources when they face them, or alternatively, the boss forces them to spend all their resources and they have less for the small fry after (an escape from a dungeon after killing the boss for example).
This includes Casters being better than Martials. Martials don't have resources most of the time. If a caster has to weigh casting Fireball now or Fly later, that does limit their combat capabilities. This hits them less at higher levels, but by that point Martials should have items that help them. A Caster doesn't get nearly as many combat focused items as a Martial does. Barbarians do have to judge when they want to use their Rages, but considering their stats this will often not matter.
This includes Warlocks and Monks. A Monk is capable of using all their Ki, then regaining it during a short rest. Having 8 to 10 (or even 6 to 8) combat encounters and the 4 to 5 (3 to 4) short rests, it averages out to 2 combats before a short rest. So they may be worse than Martials as far as DPS goes, but they can do a lot more than a Caster. Warlocks are the same, but apply that to spell slots, and they CAN just go full DPS with no trouble, unlike Wizards.
Again, this applies to the first few books only. Later on things will naturally get powercrept because if an option is weaker or about as strong as the current ones, then there's no reasons for players to buy it. And ultimately the publishers want to make money. I'd say for 5e this includes the base books, SCAG (very under appreciated but very well balanced if you play as intended), Volo's minus the monstrous races (some are too strong, some are weak), and Elemental Evil Player's Companion. Eberron and Theros are pretty well balanced as well, but they came later. Everything else already has power creep. Xanathar's is low creep, but it's there, the rest got crept pretty fast. Some options that are extremely powerful in the way most people play are actually weaker. Bladelock is weaker because they don't use their spells as much, and their lack of HP hurts them. Bladelocks end up relying on spells a lot more, and using melee as a secondary option, which isn't great for them.
Before you say "we don't have time to play 12 hour games", neither do I. But I don't need to. End the session on a short rest. "But we want to roleplay." D&D is combat first, and let's not pretend otherwise. But that isn't to say you CAN'T RP in D&D. Of course you can. But that's not the main purpose of the system. I'll post an adventure I ran specifically to prove my point to a group players that ended up becoming a long term campaign. This was level 3, group of 4, consisting of a Wood Elf Rogue, Human Wizard (who died and became a Drow Warlock later on), Human Monk, and a Dwarf Cleric. All save one session were about 2 hours with quote a lot of banter.
Session 1: Players are going down into the Underdark to negotiate peace between a Drow Kingdom and a Human Kingdom who are at war. First RP to get all the info. On the way down they encounter a group of Drow assassins sent to stop them from doing so. First combat. They go down and either they talk with the eight city guards, or they fight them. My players did end up fighting them. - 2 fights.
Session 2: Players get into the city, meet with the authorities, a Priestess keeps talking about religious stuff, they REALLY don't like her. This is counted as their short rest. During a break in the negotiations they are informed about a Noble writing a secret letter, but it will be sent soon. The door to the room is a puzzle (which took them WAY too long). Then there's a Barigura Demon guard. They need to copy and decode the message within a given time. - Short rest, 1 fight (3 total), puzzle.
Session 3: As they leave they see servants that they decided to kill because they'd tell on them (they could have captured them, but they decided it was easier to kill them, because "what are the lives of a few Drow as opposed to the peace negotiations?"). Having fought the guards before they are confronted by some Acolytes demanding blood, under the leadership of the Priestess. They try talking, but the Lady who they are negotiating with pretty much gives them the OK to kill them (but not the Priestess), and then makes a show about how the Priestess stood in their way of peace, and wanted more Drow dead. Short rest. - 1 fight (4 now), short rest (2 now).
Session 4: The Noble Drow they stole the message from sends them an invite, but it's a trap. This leads to a second fight from more assassins (in which the Wizard died due to dice, but also he wasn't happy with his character, so it was all good). Short rest. - 2 fights (6 now), short rest (3 now).
Session 5: More RP, a mini siege from more Nobles not wanting peace. This was the longest session (3 hours with two 15 minute breaks), most of which was RP. The siege was two fights as they retreated further in and kept the Noble safe (there was discussion about killing her, but they decided they did actually want peace). - 2 fight (8 now).
Session 6: Short rest, about to turn long rest after dinner. During dinner they finish negotiations. Help from the Human army against an enemy city, but in turn the Humans get mining rights. Before they sleep a good Passive Perception allows them to hear chanting just outside the window, as one of the Drow is turned into a Drider and attacks them. This is a harder boss fight. - Short rest (4 now), boss fight (9 now).
Session 7: Last, they are in the middle of a long rest, which, because it was interrupted counts as a short test, when they are attacked by more spies. This is a pretty easy fight, just a bit of a capstone. - Short rest (5 now), fight (10 now), long rest.
Yes. It took 7 sessions to do an adventuring day. That much is true. There was plenty of RP too, and it wasn't just combat. In fact, all combat lasted 2 to 3 rounds, except the siege and the Drider ones which lasted 5.
Was it hard? Absolutely. But my players enjoyed it, and that's how we play from then on. The Monk, and later Warlock, felt extremely useful, being able to stun enemies left and right, and the Warlock had high DPS. The Wizard had to carefully choose what he's going to cast, and during the Drider fight he didn't have many resources left, so he relied mainly on cantrips and his crossbow.
Is it for everyone? Of course not. Group builds end up very much in that "role" mentality. With different classes/specs fulfilling different roles. Some groups don't want that. Perfectly fine. Some groups just don't want to keep track of resources between games. Not hard to do, but perfectly reasonable. Some want shorter, snappier, heroic adventures, not harder, more deadly ones. That's perfectly OK. But if the expectations are given, 8 to 10 medium combat encounters (with harder ones counting as more than one, but a boss should still only count as one), some puzzles, some RP, it works. It more than works.
Don't think I'm saying you're playing "wrong". You can't RPG "wrong". But if you don't play how the rules were intended to be played, same as if you took a Ferrari off road, you don't get to complain that it got scratched. It can be done, but it's not what the tool was made to do. I honestly think that a lot of people would be better served playing other RPGs. There are plenty of story based games out there. PbtA, Fudge, CoC, WoD/CoD. Play those. They will not only allow you to branch out, but also allow you to improve as a player and a DM.

2024.06.05 17:54 atskee Boyfriend (23m) doesn't take interest in me (23f). How can I communicate through our issues?

My boyfriend Chris and I have been dating for almost a year now, and as our anniversary approaches I've noticed that he hasn't taken much interest in me as a person, nor does he care to help me in certain scenarios. I've asked for him to put more effort but he always says he will and never actually does. Here's a few instances where I feel he's wronged me and I need input as if I'm too demanding or not.
My boyfriend and I live 40 minutes apart. I'm expected to chauffeur him 99% of the time. He's only driven me around 3 times during our whole relationship. I wouldn't mind driving him around if I didn't have a hip disability that makes driving really painful. He refuses to drive since he lives in a walkable city with a huge traffic problem. I've told him several times that it's not much of an excuse since I always drive up to an hour sometimes just to come see him when I'm not supposed to.
My boyfriend is sadly somewhat of a slob. He'll leave trash or dirty clothes on the floor, pizza boxes stacked in the kitchen, mold growing in the sink and hairballs everywhere. I sometimes clean after him because I can't stand the smells, because his depression gets to him, and out of my fear I'll trip into something on the floor and damage my hip injury further. Chris will usually get annoyed, and tells me to stop because i'll damage my hip, and he usually gets me to stop by convincing me he'll do it later (he doesn't). I just wish he took the initiative to clean his own space rather than stopping me once I get into the cleaning mindset.
My boyfriend has never showed any interests in my hobbies, my favorite movies, shows or videogames. He will try to get me into his favorite games and shows, and I usually love them, but once I talk about my favorite shows he spaces off, and changes the topic. This makes me not want to speak about my interests anymore, and to just do whatever he wants since I know he'll take no interest in my pastimes.
Lastly (and what really made me reconsider), was that in my birthday he completely disregarded where I wanted to eat, made me drive, got himself drunk and in the morning after, he got upset when I asked him if he could heat up the leftovers in the microwave for me since my hip was really aching. He asked me to leave later that day since he wanted to be alone for a while. This made me have a panic attack, thinking I did something wrong and ever since I've been in a slump. My hip has worsen in these 2 weeks I haven't seen him, yet he still expects me to at least Uber to his place. Today I see the doctor and he also refused to take me.
He used to be really attentative to my feelings, spend time with me and include me in his projects, now we don't really talk as much as we used to. He didn't even remember our anniversary was soon, and hasn't cooperated into making dinner arrangements. I just don't know if it's worth it anymore. I've realized that I love him way more than he loves me, and it's really disheartening. I do love him, and he's hinted that he's considering marriage, but I don't want to go through with it if there's no improvements. What can I do to convey our issues successfully to him?
