2024.06.05 06:51 Working_Alfalfa7075 Question About The Wave Existence/ending

Hello, I just beat my first Xeno game using the Perfect works Mod. I feel like I did a several years of prep work listening to podcasts and learning about Gnostism. There is one thing I feel like I have not heard anyone talk about. During the scene where Fei talks to the figure which claims itself to be what we would think of as God. She says that shes using an appearance that only Fei would comprehend, a Sophia/mother figure. This God would take on a different appearance based on other peoples perception of God. This next part I wasn't sure I understood.
God then claims that because of Fei all previous incarnations of him; Lacan, The president, etc, would perceive God as a Mother type figure. Did I understand that correct? Does that mean time is not linear with Xenogears? The future dictates the past. The final incarnation, Fei, made God appear to previous incarnations as a Sophia/Mother like figure.
Please let me know if I misunderstood that scene.

2024.06.05 06:50 borealsushi Thoughts on the concept of Owlcat making more cinematic games as opposed to text centered ones and voiced PCs?

What it says on the tin. I've seen it kicked around for games like bg3 that some want more cinematic games and for the player character to be voiced, and I wanted to see how the community at large feels.
Personally, I really prefer not having a voiced protagonist. I mean, there are the barks for point and click, but don't really enjoy the fully voiced protags as much as the silent ones. It sort of takes me out of the character and makes me feel less like I'm playing "my" adventure and more that I'm just along for the ride.
I also love the style of using text to convey the greater narrative over simply having the cinematics. I think both are great ways to tell a story, but the particular brand of being able to read the nuances of what a character is feeling in a scene is really engaging to me.
Of course, since it's pretty standard for CRPGs in general to have these characteristics, I feel like just asking the question might be considered silly, but it's something I've wondered about after seeing people in other circles talk about these things.
Thoughts?

ChatGPT
Title: "The Mystery of the Disappearing Doughnuts"
[INTRO]
[Danny Gonzalez is seated at his desk, surrounded by various props and decorations, with his signature background music playing. He addresses the camera with his usual enthusiasm.]
Danny: What's up, internet? It's your boy, Danny Gonzalez, back at it again with another mystery to solve! Today, we're diving deep into the baffling case of the disappearing doughnuts. That's right, folks. We've got a real culinary caper on our hands!
[Cut to footage of Danny walking into a break room or kitchen area, where a plate of doughnuts sits on a table. He looks around suspiciously before taking one.]
Danny: It all started innocently enough. I came into work, ready to tackle the day, when I spotted these bad boys. Fresh, delicious doughnuts just waiting to be devoured. But little did I know, I was about to stumble upon a confectionery crime scene.
[Cut back to Danny at his desk.]
Danny: So, I decided to do some detective work. I set up hidden cameras, interviewed eyewitnesses (aka my coworkers), and even conducted a taste test to determine the prime suspects. And let me tell you, things got wilder than a doughnut rolling down a hill!
[Cut to montage of Danny reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing coworkers, and taste-testing different doughnuts.]
Danny: But just when I thought I had cracked the case, a shocking twist turned everything upside down! You won't believe who the real culprit was...
[Cut to dramatic music as Danny prepares to reveal the culprit.]
Danny: Alright, drumroll please!
[Cut to Danny dramatically pointing at the camera.]
Danny: It was... [pause for suspense]... the office janitor!
[Cut to footage of the janitor caught red-handed on camera sneaking doughnuts.]
Danny: That's right, folks. Turns out, the janitor had a sweet tooth that just couldn't be satisfied. But hey, can you blame him? Those doughnuts were irresistible!
[Cut back to Danny at his desk, wrapping up the video.]
Danny: And there you have it, folks. Another mystery solved by yours truly. Remember, when in doubt, always trust your gut (especially if it's telling you to eat more doughnuts). Until next time, stay curious!
[End screen with Danny's signature outro music and graphics.]

2024.06.05 06:46 LadyAyem CMV: All drugs should be legalized.

All drugs should be legalized, in my own opinion, at least when following a Portuguese-inspired model, which is where drugs are able to be legally produced by the state and consumed in a safe, medically-supervised environment. This legalization does many things:
However, legalization alone cannot solve this issue, this is why the following measures must be made:
With these proper policies on education, healthcare, border enforcement, and finances, the results of such a system are very promising. Let us look back at Portugal for this example:
"By 2018, Portugal’s number of heroin addicts had dropped from 100,000 to 25,000. Portugal had the lowest drug-related death rate in Western Europe, one-tenth of Britain and one-fiftieth of the U.S. HIV infections from drug use injection had declined 90%."
"The cost per citizen of the program amounted to less than $10/citizen/year while the U.S. had spent over $1 trillion over the same amount of time. Over the first decade, total societal cost savings (e.g., health costs, legal costs, lost individual income) came to 12% and then to 18%."
Not only did addiction, drug death, and disease infection sharply drop as a result of this policy and the required policies as mentioned above, but the program as a whole was far cheaper than simple inaction, as evident when comparing the per capita spending of the Portuguese drug ministry compared to what the United States had spent on an equal service but without doing as Portugal had.
Portugal arguably had a drug problem even worse than what America has, meaning they did not have easy footing to start this program out from. In 1999, Lisbon carried the moniker of the “heroin capital of Europe.” Consequential diseases such as HIV infection reached an all-time high in 2000, with 104.2 new cases per million people. America today has around 118 HIV infectants per million people in total, let alone that rate happening within a year like in the case of Portugal.
In America, every single year, 1.16 million Americans are arrested and charged with crimes relating to drugs due to the failure of the system of criminalized drugs with little support for addicts. In a system described above, 1.16 million would not be charged with such crimes and be able to have the support they require.
Thus, I believe that following a Portuguese inspired model with the policies and results I have explained above is the most effective, cost-effective, safe, and humane way to combat drug addiction and crime so far, and the Republic of Portugal is an example of how it can succeed but also how it may fail without proper mechanisms to support it.

2024.06.05 06:40 Spiritual-Froyo572 Inside Discussion

First thing is they spoiled themselves from the end of Ep1 preview… Joe gets voted out, everyone who was a chance of being voted out is still there in the bedroom fight scene. Also think Leah might be the 2nd person gone. Honestly the show and the concept has been great, and I know you need to have people going against the grain to make it what it is but honestly some people would do my head in.
Leah Nyfe These 3 have tried to take it seriously Joe
Fanum was leaning that way but when he made his ploy to try disrupt and pin the shopping on someone he sort of lost his direction and now I think he doesn’t care
Liv is probably next towards that crew, she’s not impulsively buying everything. She’s had spirts but nothing super crazy
Castillo and Ginge both are spending and being secretive about it, Castillo lying about his temptation then treating himself for not doing it haha and then continuing to lie about it saying he hadn’t eaten for ages when he got his upgrade. Ginge using Specs as cover to buy small bits and pieces. He bought entertainment first day which was smart but he’s also making some pretty 2 faced moves which again is funny at first but just becomes annoying
Specs/Chloe/Manrika All absolutely intolerable. Specs was funny for the first episode, but honestly it’s old now and if the good people start going I hope he just wastes money and keeps them all fighting and realising they’ve fucked up. Chloe and Manrika straight from the Prosecco part rubbed me the wrong way. Genuinely not funny and just feel forced. The whole part with Joe then listening in and having a cry because Joe was right that the audience would hate her. She didn’t want her “reputation” being tarnished which she did to herself anyway, she didn’t care about being talked shit about but because it would make her look bad she did. Chloe is a sheep, she just follows whoever. Both ridiculously jarring.
I wanna know everyone else’s views on the people inside and whether my opinions are thought by most or if others think differently

2024.06.05 06:36 mandyscott AITA for grabbing my sisters hoodie to try and get her out of my car after asked her politely many times to do so?

I (f,24) and my (f,21) sister have had a bit of a rocky relationship but we’ve rekindled it recently and really been besties.
Today her and I went to the beach had a wonderful day. I warned her that the surf board and boogie boards were going to have to be wiped down before we got in my car.
I’m in a depressive rut and spent two days detailing it so I knew it was gonna get a little sandy inside but anything that could be avoidable I thought could be wiped. Like clothes and feet and the boards!
She was already moping about having to wipe off sand and it was making me a wee bit agitated.
We get to the car, I’m sanding off things and she gets into the back seat(important later) with sand all over her clothes and feet. She didn’t even bother to wipe the sand off of her feet. I had her get out of the car to wipe it off and she moped about that too.
She even told me Mandy things are going to get sandy but in my opinion it’s like we don’t need to get in the car completely sandy if it’s avoidable?
Anyways, she got back in the car but I forgot I needed both seats down in the back to put the surfboard in then I could pop up the seat she was sitting on.
She, someone who has never packed the board) told me no the surfboard could fit. I, being someone who has packed my car plenty of times with the boards knows damn right that 100% it will not fit like that.
I asked her politely to get up so I could put it down.
She’s on her phone, tells me no she won’t get up.
I asked her again.
She says no.
I’m PLEADING with her. Still won’t get up!
I started being harsh cause it kinda felt like we were causing a scene. I told her she NEEDS to get up.
She still wouldn’t. And at this point she was recording me and I felt crazy because why won’t you just get up! She’s 21 ffs!
I do regret doing this because now my action has completely overshadowed the irritating things she was doing to wind me up.
I grabbed her hoodie, intentionally because I do not get physical with people especially skin to skin like I would have never grabbed her arms or legs to get her out the car JUST her hoodie and she started freaking out.
Now my dad thinks whatever my sister did doesn’t matter anymore because I got physical with her. I’m a bit taken back because I do feel justified? I’m a bit freaked out because my dad told me sternly I’ll get kicked out of his house if I get physical again but that’s literally not the human I am! I’m in a moral dilemma right now.
Also I am very open to being told I fucked up.

We have to buy June 21st 20 strike calls.
This is the catalyst. This is how we become him. This is how we'll do what's never been done before. Let's go out with a bang. Let's stay in the degenerate dungeon. We'll all make this requel together. We'll fuckin' do it again, because we're crazy, a little mad, amongst mad people.
Or we're never gonna survive.

I am so sick of all the negativity. It’s a beautiful remake.
I have a habit of looking up her scenes and revisiting them for art reasons or for comfort because I relate to her a lot. Now when I look her up, a lot of the results are from people who, let's be honest, did not care for the original game at all, suddenly deciding that this character is their topic of the week. I know people have differing opinions on the remake, but I can't even enjoy discussions of the original anymore without attracting these crowds of people.

2024.06.05 06:30 MutantsOnly100 What should I do to prepare myself for future employment?

I'm an international student currently study at St. Lawrence College Cornwall campus who is in summer break at the moment. The next semeser won't start until Septemper but I been worry about what will happen after my course is finish ever since few days ago because I couldn't get a part time job which I been looking for it for a month now, I applied over 60 to 70 times and had no luck whatsoever. I can only image how hard it's going to be finding a programmer job if finding a minimum wage work is this hard.
But first let me give this out of the way and hopefully some people won't pin their problems on me:
  1. I'm a Taiwanese who used to worked for IT for more than 3 years before I came here, I'm also a high functioning autistic person, the reason I want to come to Canada is to get away from Asian's conformist culture which are very hostile toward my disability, for the most part most people don't notice my disability. I came here mostly for culturally reason and not economically.
  2. I'm not the type of person who stick to their own kind, I choose Cornwall purposely to avoid other Asian population so I can experience Canadian culture. Though assimilate to Canadian culture are not as easy as I thought, because local tend to keep to themselves and there's very little social scene around here.
  3. I do have enough fund for my staying here and does not need a job, I want one to offset some of my expense and know more people. And I did not attribute to your housing problem since I'm in Homestay, so please voice your frustration in the next election.
  4. I get it, there are too many students comes to Canada and a lots of them didn't even actually study their course, but I'm not one of them. I show up at every class and did pretty well so far. And since last semester was so pack I didn't bother to look for part time job during that time and put all my effort in the study, which could explain why I can't get one anymore.
With that out of the way, I want to ask if anyone has any advice on how to prepare myself for future employment in Canada? There's no volunteering in tech sector in Cornwall since tech sector basically doesn't exit here, I tried applied for remote coding work but had no luck. How can I netowrking in my position?
My skillset consist of C#, SQL, Javascript by the way, currently learning C++ at the college.

2024.06.05 06:30 DawnDylion Meaningless

Is it like this for everyone?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had these off again on again cycles of just feeling doom . The world is getting shittier, the news being shown is terrible, the crimes people commit are atrocious. Perhaps it’s the digital era causing so much depression. Perhaps it’s the food quality in America since they are quite literally poisoning us in a sense. It’s madness. It’s genuinely so crazy to me that some people go about their days never having thoughts like this. I have to stop myself because if I sit and think about it too much, I feel myself actually going crazy and it’s as if I’m losing sanity thinking about the state of the world. I never feel like I’m doing enough. Time flies by so quickly. This year just started and now it’s half over. Anyways. Goodnight I guess.

2024.06.05 06:30 Weaby "people's hands are likely far more disgusting than their buttcheeks and balls" /r/Toronto discusses the ethics of a naked bike ride through the city

Background

Toronto's annual naked bike ride is around the corner. The event is intended as a protest against oil dependency, promoting cycling and body positivity. The group (aka, anyone wishing to join in) cycles naked through the heart of the city, chanting slogans like "less gas, more ass". The news of its return this coming Saturday brings mixed reactions.

Full Thread

Highlights:

1.
Remember when they used the bike share bikes? How gross was that!?
I mean honestly people's hands are likely far more disgusting in terms of germs and bacteria than their butt cheeks and balls.
2.
North America has a weird thing about sexualizing all nudity. Seriously, who the fuck care. All y'all getting outraged at this need to seriously chill TF out.
General expectation is to not interact with nudity in public places. You can feel whatever way you want about it but western society generally does not want to see a bunch of exhibitionists riding dick out downtown and it be simply tolerated because of “inclusion” or any other BS cause they are going for
Why don’t you just mind your own business?
3.
naked people riding past parks and schools with children playing...But yeah being upset at naked bodies near school children is a problem? Makes all the sense in the world.
4.
I don’t see why it’s necessary, like there’s camps and beaches for being naked and away from eye. But then they allow them to do this, they might aswell just allow them to do it all year around. Like I understand why it’s fun to naked and doing things you wouldn’t normally do naked, but doing those things especially in a heart of a city I’d say is unnecessary. It goes for people in the pride parades too, people bring their kids to that don’t be naked. Like you can be prideful without having to tie a ballon around your millimeter Peter to show it. I am straight but go to pride parades a lot for my friends and family who are in the community and its just a shock to see that, especially when I was young and went to my first in Toronto when I was 12 I was wayyy too immature back then
5.
Yeah this is absolutely disgusting. Nobody wants to see this.
Well it's been going on for 20 years.
19 years, 11 months, 2 weeks and 2 days isthe amount of time when USA pulled out of Afghanistan, if the USA wasted 2 trillion and left behind billions in military equipment the nudist can most certainly stop biking in Toronto and go to actual camps for nudist
6.
Small side drama about taking photos at nude beaches
I'm a nudist but wouldn't be naked in an uncontrolled space like a city where children are around. Hanlan beach yes. Side-note: clothed people at hanlan can fuck right off. especially those who take pictures of those naked or themselves with naked people in the background. Edit: ITT: creeps that take a whole ass BOAT and WALK 2 KILOMETERS to find one of two only tiny nude spots in the COUNTRY at the very edge of Toronto, past dozens of clothed beaches telling me they're not creeps.

2024.06.05 06:28 Admirable_Bed_5963 extension question lol

i have a few assignments due today and i checked out SCA to apply for an extension due to a family death last week, and it mentioned being able to apply up to 5 days late (or something). only thing is that it requires evidence and my uncles death has not been published online, except for a facebook post & the funeral is on friday so i cant get a photo of the funeral service paper until then. also, it’s in another language (yep makes things harder but there’s no proper translation websites online for this language).
will i still be able to apply for a late extension and does it really matter if it’s not evidence from a newspaper obituary (i mean, not many people do this nowadays anyways lol)?
also, will i lose points for applying late?
it’s stressing me out and ik I’ve left it late but my family purposely is trying to keep it mostly offline.
any help is appreciated thanks !

2024.06.05 06:24 Throwaway-Realist90 Issue in friendship that I don't know how to address. [Posting from a throwaway as friend in question is heavily active on Reddit]

Some of you may remember my post from several months ago about my friend Mandi. I'm struggling to understand if Mandi is just unnecessarily blunt or if there may be something else causing it.
Mandi and I met in 2019 and instantly bonded over our love of fanfiction and musicals. We are both disabled, though Mandi has a host of other conditions that I don't including Reactive Attachment Disorder and epilepsy. She also claims that her brother is autistic [but, I have a cousin with ASD, and if Mandi's brother has autism, he is super high functioning.] For a while I believed Mandi may be as well but now I'm not so sure. Mandi has a tendency to be super self-focused and not really want to talk about anyone else except a pair of friends she has who I am not 100% certain are real because the stories she tells me about them are too farfetched to be believed. One, Nick, is also friends with me on Facebook [though I think he might be a fake or a catfish].
Recently, I got into the Netflix series Bridgerton, an effort to be closer to Mandi as she claims she and Nick read the books when they were in high school (we have very little in common otherwise--we both write, but she seems extremely naive and sheltered. She's not into watching TV and rarely leaves her house anymore). She's a little under 2 years younger than me; she and Nick went to school in CA and she graduated in 2010.
Upon finishing S1 of Bridgerton on my own I hoped to be able to discuss it with her. I quickly learned we have very differing opinions on what constitutes good media. She immediately began putting down the Netflix series and claimed "You [OP], only like the story because Shonda Rhimes was involved, they made the duke Black and you're obsessed with Black men for some reason." (For context, I am white and have always tended to be attracted to people of color. Mandi is mixed--half white, half Afro-Latin. She also has a deep disdain for American Black men and Latin men influenced by where she lives in California and the interactions she's had with men of color in her area, as well as her own dad.)
I do openly admit that I attempted to listen to the first book, but don't care much for Ms. Quinn's style, and although there are some problematic things, I prefer the Netflix series. But I like it for the visuals and how the characters were translated to the screen. Mandi on the other hand, dislikes the series because "They changed so much from the books", but she watches it for the intimate scenes and because Nick, who is openly gay, likes to gush with her about how hot the men on the show are, so I don't get why she seems to be on a high horse.
Then, recently, I used a TikTok filter to do a photo manipulation of what I would look like in Bridgerton. The filter darkened my skin to a slight tan--nowhere near enough to make me resemble a woman of color-- and made my dark blonde hair a blackish-brown. It was still obvious the final product was meant to be a white woman illuminated by firelight casting shadows on her skin and making parts of her appear darker. When I shared it on my social media, Mandi quickly commented, "No offense [Nickname], you're beautiful, but this looks more like me than you."
Mandi has always told me that if I have a problem with her I should address it, but this isn't the first time she's said something that comes across as either unkind or an out and out lie and I don't know how to broach the subject, or if it's worth it. When confronted, Mandi seems to take things in extremes and think the only fix is for her to "go away".

What do you think is the biggest challenge in the photography business?
A question for the experts or for people who have been in this business for many years, what is your main pet peeve or what causes you the biggest headaches in your day-to-day career as a photographer?
Is it some particular aspect of dealing with clients? dealing with marketing your business? managing your photos? finding cheap equipment? managing your website? renting lenses? or is it something completely different? the threat of AI?
Just leave it down here in the comments, venting is allowed.

2024.06.05 06:24 PracticalPen1990 [TOMT] [MOVIE] [2004-2006] Mystery of floating people, maybe Joaquin Phoenix?

I remember going to the movies with my Dad and a GF of his (which is why I can date it between 2004-2006) in Mexico, and watching this really weird mystery story about people who dropped dead on the street and nobody seemed to care, they got walked over. I remember an odd s*x scene with the protagonists getting it on wrapped in white furs because they were freezing. The last scene was of a child trying to rescue their mother as she floated away. I always thought the protagonist was Joaquin Phoenix, but I've never found the movie in his filmography.

2024.06.05 06:23 SLAYEROFSOULS Opinion / advice needed on how to repair this exterior wall

Hello everyone! Hope all is well.
Have a 5 year old home here in TN that has quickly become a major PITA and is riddled with poorly installed (insert just about everything here).
Current primary dilemma is our front wall of the house - which is our kitchen sink wall, is rotted from the siding installer not understanding how flashing works, massive holes in the tyvek, places where tyvek flat out just wasn't present, and a myriad of other comical but sad things.
I am fairly handy and have the tools to fix this stuff up, I am just unsure of best approach / order of operation.
https://www.icloud.com/photos/#0dbViXiyOT-HmD0ntO1MOyCGw
You can see some pics of the wall at the link above.
The wall is spray foamed (exterior walls of house are) - which I guess helped us from having more water damage, but also probably helped exacerbate the problem too. I know what I need to do to get rid of this from reoccurring (kickout flashing on the wall/roof connection, tyvek that isn't full of holes, etc).
My problem is, it's a gable end wall (joists run parallel to this wall) - my upstairs office is above this - I am not sure if / how much I need to try and brace parts of the wall as I start to cut studs out, etc.
There's really nowhere to temp wall since it's the gable, the rim joist for example in the crawlspace there is a floor joist that is just outside the sill plate (so a few inches between rim joist and this floor joist) - you can see through the gap (sill plate to the joist) but a finger probably wouldn't fit and there is the plumbing for the sink running through that joist as well, so there is no real access from the crawlspace unless I start gutting the plumbing or have to alter the already chopped up floor joist. I don't see how I could provide any sort of support from in the crawlspace.
I am thinking I can probably cut out part of the rim joist and put a bottle jack (or multiple) from the outside (but there wouldn't really be room to put any sort of post or piece of wood to spread the bottle jack support out), but not sure this would even be necessary since the primary load(s) should be on the perpendicular walls.
From there - not positive the best approach to replace the studs / window framing - which may or may not show the extent of the damage to them, but the jacks, king studs, and most of the cripples are eaten away quite a bit. Cut one out at a time and replace? Meaning, cut out king on left side of window header (which is oversized, I guess the prior owner who was the builder has intended on a bigger window) - replace, cut out jack stud, replace, and work my way down the wall.
Same dilemma with replacing the bottom plate - can I possibly get away with just wedging some 2x4 under the top plate in a few places as some counter pressure and cut it out and replace it? Again, joists in the ceiling run parallel just like the floor joists to the other walls.
Seems to be plenty of examples of people having this sort of rot to replace but on actual load bearing walls where they can build temp walls to hold things up while they cut / replace members of the wall.
Any insight is appreciated!

2024.06.05 06:22 Sergeant_Person [TOMT] help my friend find this insane sounding movie

My friend is searching for a b-movie that he can’t remember so here’s his description: The movie is a live action movie about rich people dropping their highschool age children off at a house because they made a deal with a demon for what ever reason to kill their kids because they hate them. They are all stereotypical like on guy is the fat one who wears an orange track suit, there is like a pretty popular girl, a shy boy, a jock, a goth girl, and a couple others probably there is a scene towards the beginning where they are eating dinner at the house and the demon sends a big to kill them but they step on it under the table fast forward to them knowing they’re gonna die and the fat guy is hiding in a closet when the monsters find him and force feed him candy till he dies. There are several monsters one of which is a human with a big onion for a head. Fast forward some more and the goth girl and shy guy are getting away via car and there is a car crash those two walk off and the movie ends when the onion guy crawls up from a cliff after the crash and yells “I survived” or some similar shit

2024.06.05 06:22 flay_tv How likely is it that this website has gotten/will get sued? What would their ramifications look like? Or is this legal and ok?

I came across a TikTok account that was promoting this website, https://unethicalthreads.com/ .
They tend to use a lot of other company's logo's and famous people's names, images, and likenesses on their shirts.
Their TikTok page has tens of thousands of followers and tens of millions of views on their videos, so I'm assuming they've netted somewhere in 4-5 figures worth of sales.
If they did get sued by any one of these companies or famous people, how screwed are they?
