I 16 f have a sister 24 F named Sydney. Our mom wasn’t always involved. When Sydney was born our mom was only 14 so our grandparents had no choice but to raise her. But my mom hadn’t done anything with her life when I was born and my grandparents already decided that they weren’t going to raise me like they did Sydney.
So growing up my mom and my dad lived in a one bedroom apartment. When I was around 7, my mom decided she was going to go to college and life the early twenties lifestyle. My dad met someone else and left, so most of the time I was at home by myself.
It wasn’t until 5 years later that my mom met Dan in college and got married after they graduated. My mom was horrible to me during her college years and her and my sister attended at the same time. They hated each other until they joined the same sorority. Sydney never had “mom” mom, but “friend” mom.
Fast forward to now, I hate seeing my mom being good towards my younger siblings. I resent her, my older sister and my younger siblings. I don’t ever leave my room and my mom began to ask why. I asked her to leave me alone. But she just wouldn’t drop the subject. So I told her that when I came to me she sucked as a parent but was fantastic to her other kids. She asked how. I then asked what parent literally joins a sorority at 32 to party and drink with a bunch of 18 year olds.
She said she was sorry for living her life and left out my room crying. Sydney called me and asked how I can speak to mom like that. I asked her to name me one person who literally did drugstore with their mom and that it’s different for her because she considers our grandparents her parents and mom her sister. I explained how she had two loving parents to come home to, how she was able to have breakfast every morning, how she was able to have help with her homework. I explained how I never had that and that she had it way easier than I ever will. I hung up before she could respond. I started crying because I felt alone.
I heard Dan and my mom my arguing about what just happened. He came to console me and told me I have every right to feel the way I do and that he’s there for me.
My mom hasn’t talked to me since. Aita?

I only just watched Victorious for the first time as an adult so pardon me if I get anything wrong about these characters. But I just wanted to write out where I think these characters would realistically end up after school or where we could pick up if there ever were a reboot or reunion.
Tori: Goes on to pursue a career in music. While she doesn’t become the super pop sensation she thought she’d be, she is successful enough to make a living as a recording artist. She releases 7 albums in her career and only has a couple songs gain traction. She retires from music in her 30s after marrying an indie musician and starting a family. While they might not be super famous like she always imagined, Tori is very happy with how her life worked out and she and her husband enjoy sharing their love of singing with their children, who are very talented in their own right. They decide they will send their own kids to Hollywood Arts when they’re old enough.

Andre: Quickly shoots to fame after releasing his own album online shortly after graduating and signs with a huge record company. Enjoys a successful career all throughout his 20s and starts his own record company in his 30s that makes him millions. This is where he meets and falls in love with a new recording artist, helping grow her career along the way. They get married and become the biggest power couple in music.
Fame level: 10/10
Trina: after high school, does not get into any of her dream art/theatre schools. She decides to attend a state university in Florida instead and just major in theatre. But she soon realizes that she has a better time in her core classes than anything art related, because she is actually on par with the other students and not constantly embarrassing herself. She joins a sorority of girls who are all just as loud and obnoxious as she is and she fits right in with them. Ends up changing her major midway through freshman year and instead graduates with a degree in social media marketing, which she finds herself really good at. She learns to love herself for who she is and to stop trying to be something she’s not to gain the approval of the wrong people. She meets the love of her life and they go on to have a very happy family

Jade: Gets into a very prestigious art school and majors in film. She makes short films which are very good, but incredibly horrifying even for the biggest horror fans. Which is fine, she decides she wants nothing to do with the mainstream film industry anyway and continues to make films that would never be allowed in theaters. She never becomes a household name, but she develops a very dedicated cult following and goes down in the history of horror film. She marries a 60 year old millionaire movie producer to be able to fund her filmmaking. Despite the age gap, they actually have a happy relationship since he always supports her work and never disagrees with her

Cat: Gets her big break after high school but quickly realizes that the music industry is much darker and scarier than she anticipated. She decides she doesn’t want to be famous, but still wants to pursue music in some way. She combines her love for both music and children and goes to college to become an elementary school music teacher. She goes off to a small private college in Illinois to be closer to her family. Being in such a different environment than LA helps her grow and finally mature. She becomes an incredible teacher and impacts the lives of thousands of children.

Robbie: Afraid of failing in the music industry, Robbie decides to pursue a more reliable degree that will guarantee a job in the future, finance. But it’s a lot different than high school for performing arts and Robbie quickly realizes he doesn’t fit in with his peers at all, especially not with Rex there. Since he isn’t great at making friends on his own, Robbie spends all of his time doing schoolwork or writing songs. While some of these songs are deep and emotional, a lot of them are just silly and written out of boredom. He records and uploads all of these songs onto YouTube, where his funnier songs get really popular. By the time he graduates college, he has hundreds of thousands of subscribers. He is able to make a decent career doing parodies of popular songs and original joke songs. While his fame never reaches mainstream, he becomes a Youtube legend.

Rex: Once Robbie realizes he can’t carry Rex around his university and be taken seriously, Rex is kept in Robbie’s dorm and acts like his college roommate. He is a big part of Robbie’s YouTube channel, acting in videos and even has his own segment. Rex becomes a fan-favorite in his own right, and catches the attention of a movie director. The director offers Robbie a huge amount to sell him Rex and his IP so he can give him his own movie. Robbie isn’t sure but Rex begs him to let him go, saying it’s his dream come true. Robbie agrees, finally letting Rex go once and for all. Rex stars in an adult comedy movie trilogy alongside Mark Wahlberg that’s massively successful among men age 18-24

Beck: after high school, gets cast in a teen drama series as a leading role. The show is very popular and Beck becomes a teen heartthrob. After 4 seasons on air, the show ends and Beck lands a few smaller projects of similar roles, but finds it hard to deviate away from his teen drama typecasting in Hollywood. In the following years, he brings more media attention from the women he dates rather than the work he does. Each new woman he dates always seems to be more famous than the last. Until his early 30s where he finds himself dating one of the biggest pop stars in the world, and she breaks up with him and writes am album about their failed romance. Suddenly the entire world hates him when he didn’t even do anything. He decides to take a step back from the spotlight and changes his career to working as a writer for television instead. He swears off relationship for a few years to be single for pretty much the first time ever and work on himself

Sinjin and Burf: End up going to the same university and major in film. They find moderate success working behind the scenes in Hollywood, until Sinjin hears the news that Sikowitz is leaving Hollywood Arts to run off to Mexico with his new fiancé. Sinjin decides he needs to fill Sikowitz’s position, and Burf joins him as his teaching aid. As a teacher, Sinjin makes sure that every student’s talents are explored in his class, not just the most talented and attractive students. He becomes one of the most impactful teachers in Hollywood Arts history.

Sorry this installment took so long to upload! Just a heads-up, I may take some time to deliver the last one too – these posts take forever to format on Reddit's finicky-ass editor, and my dumb real life is currently keeping me from precious Internet time. Quick recap of where we left off. First, there were five to ten halcyon years of pleasant and meaningful interactions between EA and her blossoming fanbase, prominently by way of her official forum. Then, circa 2009-2010, EA's online presence shifted towards sudden anger outbursts, ban-hammering, and an increasingly top-down communication style.
This created a sort of primordial rift within the fanbase, between those who supported EA's right to speak her mind and regulate her own fan spaces however she pleased – and those who thought that her reactions were rude and inappropriate (at best), and that even fan spaces should allow for reasonable, non-abusive criticism of the artist.
Between a poorly-handled book release (see Part 3), the controversial (Part 2) or dubiously true (Part 4) contents of said book, and serious shade from various former collaborators (Part 5), more and more fans had pressing thoughts about EA's work ethic and choices. EA attempted damage control through drastic forum rules that made it virtually impossible to voice any “serious” critical opinion. It didn't work, of course: instead of squashing the mutiny, she created a schism.
Critical fans and active haters started congregating on unofficial platforms.

“WITH MUFFINS LIKE THIS, WHO NEEDS ENEMIES?”: TROLL LIKE A GIRL

So here we were, the early 2010s. The official forum (which had about 700 members in 2006, if you recall) was now thousands-strong, reaching just over 12,000 registered users in 2012 – not all of them active, but still. In terms of sheer numbers and content creation, the party was POPPIN'... but increasingly in parts of the Asylum that escaped EA's jurisdiction, such as Tumblr, where they could speak their mind freely.

In one wing of Asylum Tumblr, a smattering of call-out blogs emerged, which laid out EA's various lies, faux pas, shitty takes, and general deep-seated terribleness in detailed timelines and screenshots (or, short of that, long-winded bullet points). While many such blogs framed it as “serious” whistleblowing and did their best to remain as fact-based and neutral as they could, there was some genuine disgust, animosity and creepiness towards EA on that side of Tumblr; for some ex-fans, “exposing the truth” was mostly justify obsessive hatred, prying and verbal abuse. Some, for instance, felt the bizarre need to side with EA's mother in their estrangement. (One user, with the URL “emilyautumnfischkopf”, argued in a serious and down-to-earth tone - but with zero sources - that EA's upbringing had been nothing but peaceful and supportive until she ungratefully kicked her loving family to the curb for no reason at all. They were later revealed 🔍 to have an alternate handle as “eaisalyingcunt”.)
Either way, through these blogs, a number of potential drama bombs that had mostly flown under the radar were dredged up from over the years – some of which were hard to ignore, even for supportive fans. Where to begin?
There was that nonsense in-joke song, captured twice on camera during the 2009 tour (to very little outrage, at the time), crassly called “Manatee Retard”📺. Or EA's scathing response, in print, to a wheelchair user who found it insensitive that she used a bedazzled wheelchair as a prop to do sexy acrobatics on stage. (“Your offence taken at my hard-won self-acceptance proves that I indeed have something to fight against”, she wrote). Spoken word tracks where she made trivializing knock-knock jokes about serious mental illnesses she didn't have, like schizophrenia and OCD. Multiple instances of calling Britney Spears a “bimbo” and a “Hollywood fucked-up”, resentfully claiming that she only shaved her head because she was “hopped up on drugs” and certainly not because she was “bipolar”, a word the press liked to wield as an insult anyway. (“That's almost like calling someone a retard!” Yeah, heaven forbid.) The meanest, most distasteful paragraphs in the book. Basically everything problematic EA had ever said or written.📝 In retrospect, it had been a long time coming, but it was a lot to take in – and certainly more off-putting, even to less emotionally invested fans, than silly lies about her age and last name.
In another wing of Asylum Tumblr, some fans had had it up to here and just wanted to have fun. 🎵 If Plague Rats had learned one valuable lesson from EA, it was how to crack a joke in the face of absurd tragedy – and the general state of the EA fandom certainly warranted a few.
In 2012, Fight Like a Girl was released. After six long years, three of which had been peaceful, the Opheliac era was officially over. The new album and ensuing tour confirmed that the Asylum had entered a process of glamorous Broadway-style militarization. 🎵📺
The mood board was “Roman general meets Vegas showgirl meets Victorian street urchin”.🪞 The color palette was, to naysayers, “musty pink and rotten, stale piss yellow”. 🐀 The keyword was “REVENGE” (through the power of... self-expression! sorority! brutal assault with rusty medical implements!). The chorus of the title song had an intriguing run-on line about getting “revenge on the world, or at least 49% of the people in it” 🎵 – which seemed like an awful lot, and was widely interpreted (to cheers, boos, or uncomfortable sighs) as a misandrist jab at literally all men on Earth.
The show was essentially a demo version of the musical, in that the setlist vaguely reflected the order of events in the story – but prior reading was essential in order to get what the hell was going on on stage. This one Broadway reviewer had not perused the literature before seeing the show 🔍, and hated: the set, the choreography, the skits, the plot, the lyrics, the music, the concept. (Seriously, you should read the review. It's not even my show and I feel like quitting show business.)
Pre-show VIP encounters, now violin-free, were lorded over by EA's new manager🐀, whose official title was “Asylum Headmistress”. (Interesting choice – she sounds fun!) The swag bags were less substantial than before, and the “greet” part of the meet-and-greet was rarely more than a quick hug and photo op.
On Twitter, EA continued to embrace her “I am very badass” fronting attitude...

Often wonder if cyberbullies r aware they’re fucking w/ a girl who’s BFs w/ maker of the SAW films & is marrying a knife-throwing scorpion. (🐀📝)

...and her taste for needlessly inflammatory statements. About an aisle sign in a supermarket:

If this does not infuriate you, then you're a fucking potato.

(Again with the confounding crypto-ableism, EA! 🔍) She also went through a phase of raging against Lady Gaga 📝, who had stolen her idea of using a wheelchair on stage as an able-bodied woman. 🔍 That failed to convince anyone that she wasn't the histrionic diva that haters made her out to be.
Spurred on by EA's rallying cries and “us vs them” mentality, loyalists turned the white-knighting up to 11. On Twitter, some Plague Rats got into cat fights with Lady Gaga's Little Monsters (what a time to be alive). Others tried to balance out the Tumblr negativity with initiatives like “Spreading a Plague of Love” – a “positive-only” confession blog, whose extreme fangirling, comically drastic rules and hyper-defensive tone📝 did not debunk the increasingly popular notion that “true Plague Rats” were a bunch of authoritarian and hopelessly brainwashed fanatics.
EA truthers and other anti-fans started lashing out at anyone who dared express any positive opinion of EA, solidifying claims that the backlash against EA was just a conspiracy of bitter, hysterical bullies.
All this to say: every passing day brought new reasons for fans to get mad at EA and each other, and everyone in the Asylum was in need of a laugh. It's not easy having a good time.🦠
Leading up to Fight Like a Girl and in the years that followed, user-submission-based meme blogs took off, most notably “Spreading a Plague of Lulz / Troll Like a Girl”. A lot of the early submissions were absurdist humor and toothless, cheezburger-Impact memes (a style that was, oddly, already dated at the time). Those often originated in good fun, and from loyal fans, on the official forum. But there was also true snark, satirizing EA's questionable ethics, outrageous claims, and easily spoofed artistic gimmicks. A new slang of Asylumspeak emerged: Glittertits (slight NSFW), GAGA!!, EA Gusta and all its memeface variants, Get outta mah house!, Are You Suffering?, Fight Like A Goat, [Random celebrity] copied EA (a subgenre in its own right), ...
Most of the “trolling” was directed at unrepentant bootlickers and, to a lesser extent, red-in-the-face haters and creeps. Meme blogs would post joke comments under “serious” or gushing submissions on Wayward Victorian Confessions, and taunt loyalist accounts by tagging them in their posts. When a few people complained on WVC that almost all of the Bloody Crumpets to date had been thin white able-bodied women, and a few fans responded by sharing their dream-casts for a more diverse line-up, the blog was flooded for days with confessions that “X should be a Crumpet” (candidates included RuPaul, Mitt Romney, Nicki Minaj, EA's therapist, and the WVC admins). Farcical shenanigans like that.
Ah, but some people will always cross the line, won't they. EA threads popped up on merciless, bully-friendly snark platforms like Lolcow, Pretty Ugly Little Liar, and Encyclopedia Dramatica. Snarkers with a mean streak and obsessive haters mingled in some of the more aggressive, 4-chan-spirited retaliation against EA – which would be called “brigading” in modern parlance. This included flooding EA's Goodreads page with one-star reviews (see part 4), repeatedly editing her Wikipedia page to include her legal name and birth year, and ensuring that Googling said name would bring up current pictures of her.
All of this compounded agitation fragmented the once-united fandom beyond recognition.🦠 Through substantial disagreements among fans, personal bickerings, layers upon layers of inscrutable in-jokes, and cross-platform telephone games, the Asylum morphed into a booby-trapped Escher room.
Satire blogs were taken in earnest. Earnest fan blogs scanned as satire. Memes would get called out as abuse. Appreciation without attached criticism would get mocked as bootlicking. Obvious jokes made by EA would be taken at face value. One divisive confession could trigger days and days of debate, to the point that WVC eventually banned confessions in response to other confessions. New waves of infighting created a confusing web of rival sub-factions🐀, each accusing the others of being toxic, cliquish, and delusional.
The shared fantasy was broken, the collective vision had crumbled, no onez was speaking the same language anymore. Fans would jump down the throat of other fans who held almost identical views about EA, except for that one thing she said or did that one time. Everyone had differing thoughts on what should or shouldn't acceptable to discuss, question, excuse, make fun of.
War is hell.

SCORCHED EARTH SHENANIGANS: HONEY, I SHRUNK THE ASYLUM

Haters vs sycophants is not really the kind of conflict where one side can come out on top (if you're participating, you've already lost). But in the long tug-of-war between “grassroots” and “EA-sponsored” fan spaces, the ultimate winner is obvious – in that the former is gasping in agony, a shriveled husk of its former glory, while the latter... is non-existent. This is due in no small part to EA's tendency, like the Czars of old, to settle conflicts by setting Moscow on fire.🔍)
That's not entirely fair: unlike EA, the czar only did it that once.
By early 2013, as EA was gearing up for her third Fight Like a Girl tour at the end of the year, the official forum was... not as lively as it once had been. Not just because of the stifling rules and disgruntlement towards EA, or because EA herself hadn't really posted anything on there in years; the Internet was also changing, and forums in general were fast becoming passé.
This made it difficult for EA to create a safe space where she could talk to fans, and fans could talk to and about her, in a way she deemed suitable (ie, a space she could gate-keep and regulate enough to keep it completely free from negative criticism). Social media was a minefield; she still posted regularly, but didn't interact very much. So EA and the Headmistress came up with a way to filter out the unbelievers: an official fan club📝, aptly called the “Asylum Army”, with a $100 entry price.
Joining the AA came with a dog tag, a sew-on patch, and a lifetime membership certificate signed by EA and – for some reason – the Headmistress. (Unlike EA's best friend and sound engineer back in the forum's heyday, I don't think fans ever really embraced the FLAG-era manager as part of the Asylum in-group. She came across more as a coordinator / businessperson / adult chaperone, at best.🐀) So, slightly better goodies than you'd get by joining the other AA 🔍 ... but not by much. The main appeal was that members would have access to exclusive content, special merch, giveaways, early bird tickets for future shows, and regular video chats with EA.
The concept itself drew a fair amount of criticism, as you can imagine. Between the name🐀, the price, and the inherent gatekeeping of a pay-to-join fanclub, many balked at the monetizing of a concept that had once (like, three years back) been significantly more DIY, grassroots, and inclusive. 📝🐀
Then again, many also longed for a positive, drama-free space where fans could just be fans. And while the creation of the AA was generally recognized as a quick cashgrab, a lot of people were surprisingly cool with it. EA was trying to finance her dream musical, after all – although a number of fans wished she had gone about raising funds in a less sketchy way.
So around 400 fans shelled out (which, according to the Headmistress📝, “basically cover[ed] the cost of running the fanclub itself – keeping the database up, website, etc.”). Enough for a close-knit, but sizable community. But already, there was a conflict of interest: a high fanclub entry fee essentially demands that you pledge loyalty to the artist over loyalty to your fellow fans, who wish to join but can't afford to. Sharing, caring, and ensuring no one felt left out were some of the more positive values cultivated in the fandom... but leaking exclusive content would surely piss off other paying members🐀, and make EA feel betrayed all over again. (And she had barely just started to mellow out on social media!)
...But then again, this is the internet. After the first month of secret AA drops (lyric sheets, some photoshoot outtakes – nothing too juicy, really), there were, yes, some leaks. EA was predictably miffed, and retaliated by... ghosting the fanclub for weeks at a time in its first few months of existence (great look!). She eventually found the “solution” to her problem, by providing something you couldn't right-click-save (and which had been part of the promised perks to begin with): live interaction.
Over webcam, she was her usual in-person bubbly, charming, funny self. Everyone seemingly had a good time during the fanclub video chat, and this gave people faith and hope.
There were a few more events, giveaways, etc. As promised, ahead of the fall 2013 tour (the last one to date, it would turn out), AA members got priority access to show tickets and VIP bundles. The latter were much pricier than before, and only included soundcheck, a photo-op, and three goodies: a tin of loose-leaf tea, a signed printer-paper setlist, and a small flag that said “F.L.A.G.”.🔍 Some stuff continued to leak – but, as some of the outlaws pointed out (scroll down to the Disqus comments), they were mostly relaying information that was relevant to the entire fanbase, such as updates about ongoing projects (the dragged-out recording of the audiobook, for one).
In early 2014, lifetime memberships were closed, and replaced with monthly, quarterly and yearly subscription tiers. Bizarrely, you ended up paying $3 more per month if you bought a $99 yearly subscription📝 – but it did include the patch, dog tag, and piece of paper!

Sometimes I kind of want to be part of the cool kids and register to the Asylum Army. Then I remember how it came about, what you could get for the same price a couple years ago, how the whole thing was and is handled, and that I won’t support any of this bullshit. (And then I roll around naked in all the money I’m saving.) (🐀)

Still, a number of fans rejoiced at the affordable monthly option, and joined – if not for the exclusive content and merch (which were... okay, but not much to write home about), then for the friendly, drama-free exchanges with an artist they actually did love, in spite of all the frustration.
For the still-too-poor or still-undecided, there was always the forum! It wasn't as active as it used to be, but a few die-hards still managed to keep the lights on... until, inevitably, Someone Did Something and Ruined Everything. (Once again: EA's wrath is spectacular, but rarely completely unprovoked.) The incident features one notable figure in the Asylum community. Let's call him the Collector.
OK, so maybe you remember the meme I linked to in Part 4, with Christian Grey and the ginormous EA hoard. Well, that's the Collector's collection. The “Violin” promo that I called the "Holy Grail of the fandom" in the same paragraph? Also his. The handwritten lyrics that went for $940? Guess who won that auction. Over the years, the Collector had probably spent five figures on EA merch and shows, and although that fact was a little unsettling, he was a very active, easy-going, and generally well-liked fixture of the fandom.
One day in 2012, shortly after the Headmistress had replaced EA's old Chicago BFF as main forum admin, the Collector's account got banned or restricted over something dumb. When the ban wasn't lifted as quickly as he hoped, he took it... the way one takes things when one is unhealthily invested: he started spamming Headmistress and the mod team with increasingly rambling and abusive emails (lost to time, probably for the best). When that didn't work quickly enough, he tried a different route.
One of the many auctions that the Collector had won, some years prior, was EA's old iPod Touch📝 – which contained all of her favorite tunes and, buried somewhere in the data cache... a phone number. Which the Collector tried calling. And wouldn't you know it: EA picked up. She congratulated him on his sleuthing skills, listened patiently as he made his case, apologized for any distress caused by the unfair account restriction, and then they got married.
Kidding! She freaked the fuck out, hung up, and banned him for life from the forum and all EA shows and events.
After his ban, the Collector allegedly still tried to attend at least one VIP pre-show (one source in the comments says he was allowed to buy some merch, refunded for his ticket, and escorted out). He joined the Reform forum to bitch about EA and try to rally people to his cause, possibly made revenge posts about her on darker snark forums, and continued to hound the Asylum mod team. So in June 2014, EA came up with a radical and unexpected fix to the Collector problem.

The official Asylum Fan Forum has been shut down permanently. I have personally paid thousands of dollars each year to keep the forum safe and secure for you ... Unfortunately, the forum has not been kept safe and secure for me, a truth which disappoints me greatly, instead becoming a place where people who have physically threatened myself and my staff prey upon forum members, pressuring them to contact me and my staff on their behalf. If the gullible wish to humor my stalkers (who live in their parent’s basement at age 30 something) and thus put me in danger, they may do it on their own dime. They may also fuck off, because stupidity can kill, and I won’t be your victim. To those who enjoyed the forum, you know who to thank for its closure. (“On the closing of the Asylum Forum”)

Voilà! This is how a decade-long archive of shared history ends: not with a bang, but with a dirty delete and a sod-off communiqué.

I was actually on the forum when it was taken down. I was navigating between posts and when I went to click on a different board, an error message came up. I honestly cried a little, I'm not ashamed to say. (WVC admin on Reddit, 2024)

...and I do mean everyone:

Chicago BFF / ex-admin, the next morning: Whoa, EA forum shut down? Ex-mod: It turns out that if someone spends enough years actively “waging war” to destroy what they can’t have, eventually they’ll be successful. * eye roll * Not even mods got prior warning. Just all the sudden, poof, gone. BFF: Really? She did not let the moderators know?! This is sounding worse and worse. Uggh. I’m so sorry. Such a loss. (...) Ok, threats are serious, but why not just put it in archive mode so no one can post? (...) Sad. I shall light a candle in the forum's honor. (Facebook posts; scroll down for screenshots)

It was a gut punch, especially for people who had poured countless hours into the community, or could have used some prior warning to save years of their own writing from the role-playing threads. One last chance to take a look around the place that had meant so much to so many.

From the wording of the announcement of closing the forum and a number of other things, it sometimes seems like EA doesn't like her fans much. :/ (🐀)

Three months after the forum was nuked, Battered Rose (a venerable EA fansite, which had been around since the Enchant era and had one of the most complete EA galleries online) announced that it was shutting down too.📝 The admin, who had also been a long-time forum mod, cited a lack of “time, energy, passion, or money” to keep the website going... and being upset at the sudden disappearance of the forum. It was, truly, the end of an era for the Asylum.
...Well, no point in living in the past. For those who could afford it, and still wanted to talk to/about EA after that (not everyone did 🐀), there was always the Asylum Army fanclub!
Over the summer of 2014, EA held regular live chats and Q&A's, and... many attendees really enjoyed them, and thought the AA was well worth the money after all. She also quietly parted ways with the much poo-pooed Headmistress around that time.

Just spent over 4 hours giggling, drinking tea and playing guessing games in chat with EA and other Asylum Army members ... No griping, no downers, just lots of fun. I think I like the way the ‘new fandom’ is going and now I’m really glad I finally decided to join the Army. (September 4, 2014🐀; Battered Rose had closed the day before)

The forum was lost forever, but perhaps that was a chance for a fresh start. Could this fanclub thing really be the Asylum Renaissance that fans had been longing for?

...Never mind, then.
Turns out the fanclub had been the Headmistress' idea all along. EA had been reluctant from the start, and although she really enjoyed the live chats with a safe community of people “who are there for the right reasons”, she couldn't overcome her fundamental discomfort with the concept. Lifetime and regular members would receive a bunch of digital downloads and a -35% coupon on the Asylum Emporium for their troubles. EA said she would definitely pop back once in a while for live chats, for free, just for fun, but to my knowledge, she never did.
And so the most devoted fans were left standing in the rain...

She is happy, she made it. She is fulfilling her dreams, found love and happiness after all the pain. I understand that she now doesn’t need “us” anymore ... That doesn’t change the fact she broke my heart with taking the Asylum Army and the forum from me. Yet, I am happy for her. (🐀)

I don’t feel sorry at all for the people that paid for the Asylum Army fan club. Most of them knew that EA is an atrocious business woman and has broken many promises before. In fact, I laugh at them. They seriously thought that EA would actually stay consistent with this? (🐀)

EVERYTHING MUST GO: THE ASYLUM WHOLESALE

EA fans were left without an “official” home for about three years. This gave them plenty of time to be annoyed at EA for: not releasing the audiobook on time, not materializing any new project for a while... and the new sin of peddling random, ridiculously marked-up AliBaba jewelry as “merch” on her official store. Think faux-antique cameo pendants and $30 Big Ben rings (...because the Asylum story is set in London, get it?).

The whole accessories section looks like a tacky overpriced English souvenir shop. (🐀)

The fanbase lost a lost of steam in those in-between years, because there wasn't much to stick around for. As evidenced by the positive reception of the AA live chats, even in the midst of unresolved drama, out-loud interactions in a friendly environment have always been EA's saving grace. Considering the amount of online hate, there are shockingly few accounts of bad IRL encounters with EA: most people say that in live conversation, she comes across as a fun, warm, and genuinely sweet person. Some report that their negative opinion shifted after meeting her.
But there were no chats or live shows anymore. There was only social media, where she ignored questions and vague-posted about overdue projects – and the newsletter📝, which was all saccharine love-bombing to promote bland dropshipped trinkets. For fans who remembered the handcrafted merch (and two-way communication) of the early years, it was a bitter pill to swallow.

I had a 55g tall and I had a betta sorority as well as a blue lobster in there. They stayed mostly away from each other and were happy about a year and a half in that tank. Eventually the man I was with and I broke up, tank had to leave. He took the blue lobster despite me telling him not to because he couldn’t accomodate him (I was the only one who actually cared about the fish tank. I got the “lobster” as an attempt to get him interested). I come to move my tank and he has already removed the blue crawfish (if that’s what you prefer him called) and is nowhere nearby. I notice he’s taken a small 1g tank I had for quarantine purposes. I was really sad and distraught but I let it go and kept whatever fish I could (33 fish total did not make it. Again I had never had this type of set up. It was more experimental based on personality. But those personalities were my favorite. Each fish had a name. Each fish was special to me. Especially the “babies” that would grow into beautiful betta fish. Wasn’t super interested in breeding in that tank but I absolutely love my betta fish. I’m talking Sailor Swift, Marlin Monroe, Swim Kardashian, Malala Yousefishy, Gillie Eifish, Natalie Portswim, etc. every time I think of one I write it down for my betta fish because they’re near and special. (Frank Swimatra, Johnny Deep, Fishtopher Columbus, Kate Middleton etc.) Literally named and documented. Each favorite thing about them. What they liked to eat. The fish I saw them around them. How they reacted or learned to stay away from Dwayne the Rock Lobster. Bear with me I’m sorry. I took who I could. I rescued his gorgeous male betta Quigon Finn from his desk, and did my best. 6 months later I hear that somebody went over to his place and there was a cesspool of water in my 1gal tank. He had not done one water change. And I know he didn’t feed him. My friend was disgusted by it all and let me know because I wanted closure on my buddy. It made me furious. All because he wanted to be petty and selfish and take away my hobby for himself. All because he wanted to punish me emotionally by knowing exactly what would happen with this crawfish. And he swore that he cared and loved it. I knew it was a lie. I wanted him to come with me in my tank, in his home. But out of selfish petty revenge, I got to dwell on the fact that Dwayne The Rock Lobster died of suffocation and starvation over 6 months. I don’t think he lasted that long. I think he failed to empty the tank much further after that. I cannot bring myself to start a new tank. My fiancé now is fully supporting my huge plant and fish obsession, but I’m really distraught and discouraged about starting over. Not sure if this is the right place but I want to start over I’m just not sure what to even start with anymore. No tank or fish remain after another multiple moves sadly. I really tried my best. I miss Dwayne. He fakes missing him. I don’t contact him at all and will not. I never addressed the situation outside of telling him that I had a better setup for Dwayne’s comfort. I received a call the day he died. Unsuccessful molt is what I believe was said. It was hard as I grew to love having him. I’m so sorry to you my boy. I miss you Dwayne the Rock Lobster💙

I’m going to post this in the specific subreddit for my fraternity as well, as I’m not entirely certain of folks’ opinions of the particular fraternity as part of “fraternity life” (idk if it’s part of ifc)
We’re basically on our deathbed. We have maybe 4-5 active brothers and all of our recruits from this past rush bailed. I seriously don’t know what to do. Unfortunately there’s a lot of tension between the brothers that has definitely contributed to our demise and no matter how many times I’ve tried to address the issue nobody can seem to come to a common ground.
I obviously cant say much about it but there is a pretty clear “traditions” aspect to it separate from the social part, though it is a social fraternity. Our current president is pretty hooked on these traditions and kinda wants no part in planning other activities, yknow, things guys actually want to do.
We’ve tried exciting rush week activities, being active on social media and partnering with other frats/sororities and clubs to get our name and faces out there but it’s pretty niche regardless and, as much as I love my bros, they’re not exactly the most personable guys. Maybe i’m just ranting here, but is it donezo? I’m really sad for it cuz I want the brotherhood to be there for future guys, who I bet could turn it around but we’re hanging on for dear life.

President Biden will spend this weekend reaching out to Black voters with high-profile visits to Atlanta and Detroit. Polls suggest he’s got plenty of work to do.

• Biden kicked off the weekend at the National Museum of African American History in D.C. commemorating the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board, which ended segregation in public schools, and meeting with leaders of historically Black fraternities and sororities known as the Divine Nine. The event marked the start of a series of appearances aimed at courting Black voters at a moment when their support is wavering. Recent polling shows 23 percent of Black voters in key battleground states plan to vote for disgraced former President Trump, after only 12 percent backed him nationally in 2020. Things seem especially fraught with Black men, of whom 30 percent now say they plan to vote for Trump according to a recent Wall Street Journal poll.
  
• That helps explain Biden’s commencement speech Sunday at Morehouse College, an all-male HBCU in Atlanta and Martin Luther King Jr’s alma mater. Yet this speech brings its own political risks for Biden. Some students strongly oppose his appearance in light of his handling of the Israel-Hamas war, and the school is bracing for protests. Morehouse president David A. Thomas told CNN he might shut the whole thing down “on the spot” if the event gets too rowdy.
  
• Next, Biden heads to Detroit to meet with small business owners and deliver an NAACP speech. The group’s president, Derrick Johnson, has dismissed the negative polls. But other Detroit voices say the disconnect is real. Zeke Williams, the founder of a community group called New Era Detroit that links up residents in disinvested neighborhoods with badly needed resources, said his group has been ignored. “We haven’t heard anything from a Democrat or Republican,” Williams told NBC News. “You wouldn’t even be able to tell this is an election year in our communities, unless somebody flies in for a day and gives a speech. Other than that, you know, it’s business as usual.”

The share of Americans who identify as LGBTQ+ continues to rise, with 7.6 percent of U.S. adults now identifying with a sexual orientation other than heterosexual according to new polling data from Gallup. That’s up from 5.6 percent just four years ago, and 3.5 percent in 2012. The Israel Defense Forces said it recovered the bodies of three hostages taken by Hamas in northern Gaza on Friday. Shani Louk, 23, Amit Buskila, 28, and Itzhak Gelerenter, 57, were murdered after escaping the Nova Music Festival attack on October 7, and their remains were taken back to Gaza and found in a Hamas tunnel, the IDF said.
The Pentagon announced that humanitarian aid to Gaza will soon begin flowing through a new temporary pier anchored to the Gaza shore. The U.N., however, has expressed concern about the availability of vehicles and fuel needed to adequately deliver supplies.
An after-hours House Oversight Committee session turned into a now-viral verbal sparring match between far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and progressive Reps. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Jr. is trying his best to explain why an upside-down flag, which symbolized Trump’s “Stop the Steal” movement, was spotted outside his home in the days following the January 6 insurrection. NYU is forcing some students who participated in anti-war campus protests to complete ethical decision-making and morality modules and write “reflection papers.” Some students have objected, calling the assignment a coerced confession. hey everyone! I'm currently having to make a decision between cornell and notre dame for my undergrad, and i'm extremely conflicted. I'll bullet a few of my thoughts about both schools below, and i'd really appreciate any help! ab me: extroverted, intended poli sci/global affairs/policy, wanting to go to law school/ pursue post-grad education, admitted arts & letters at ND (but planning to take advantage of double majors across schools) and brooks at cornell
notre dame: (basically full-ride + money given for summer research + more)

• such good campus culture, and all the people are genuinely so kind. visited for admit students weekend, and the people were some of the kindest I have ever met and seems a lot less cutthroat than ivies.
  • not all the diverse in terms of the school being predominantly white, catholic, upper-class, but I've heard the cultural communities are very tightly knit
• catholicism being a big part of the culture doesn't rlly bother me -- I think it's pretty cool that there's the spiritual element
• has less name value. it's consistently ranked high, but even when I applied I never really anticipated getting in/going until I actually got in. I def want to continue a career in the northeast, so not too sure if the location of ND would impact me negatively.
• no frats/sororities -- lowkey kind of prefer this culture
• very pretty campus BUT in the middle of nowhere
• very strong alumni network
  • also feel like there's a lot less competition as opposed to ivies, and I'd really be able to capitalize off of all the opportunities at ND
• very fun college culture (I feel like something that cornell might lack at times) + football culture

cornell: (would be paying ~30k/yr)

• it's an IVY and with that comes immense prestige + name-value recognition. I feel like I can't completely disregard that it has this advantage.
• scared of the competition at cornell. brooks is def a smaller school with smaller class sizes, but the overall nature of an ivy contrasts greatly with that of ND
  • BUT public policy has a lot of good opportunities at cornell with their policy clinics and everything
• stunning campus + good food (food def beats out ND)
  • love the nature + being in the northeast
• not too sure about frat life, but I'd def be open to joining pre-professional frats
• can't major across schools. as a public policy major, I'm not too concerned because cornell lets you take classes to somewhat "customize" your major, but I'd love to double major, so that's something to consider.
• very diverse (in ideas, opinions, identities, etc.)
• cornell t14 law school pipeline is much better, and they also have a 3+3 program for cornell law

So about a year ago I (20M) had feelings for one of my friends, Leia (22F, not really name). Bad idea, yep. I was in a similar situation years ago and that previous girl was super abusive, she made my life hell. Not the most fun, I gotta say. Leia was really, really similar to the last abusive girl, coming down to the sinilar hair, similar personality, same height and same age. But she seemed better. I met her since my Fratenrity and her Sorority are somewhat close
So I confessed to Leia I had feelings for her, but didn’t want to date. I just wanted to get it off my head and be honest with her. She didn’t want to date either but she said she really loved our friendship, and we spent a few hours talking about it. I told her about my past stuff, and she promised she wouldn’t do the same thing to me, and she’d always be there for me since I’m one of her best friends.
3 weeks later I cut her off. She was abusive, a lot of lying, gaslighting, projecting, isolating me from friends, and so, so much blaming and stonewalling. She did everything to me that the last girl did, all the stuff I told her about, and it had such a bad effect on me that I ended up getting diagnosed with MDD, but there were a lot more issues that caused that. It’s been silent treatment since then, except for a few times she’s done things to taunt me, but I’ve just ignored her.
A year later, I’m better now. I’ve got great supportive friends, and my life is on the up and up. But I found out she decided to not graduate on time and stay another year, and that’s confused me a lot. I miss all of our happy memories, and I never really got closure. Part of me wants to talk to her again, but idk why. My therapist said it’s natural, especially since I haven’t really dated since then, after it nuked my confidence, it makes sense, but I just feel like shit thinking about her. I at least have closure than people know she’s like this and they’re on my side, even her own sorority sisters, but I still miss those happy memories.

A couple of projection clicks kick off the next trailer before the footage is shown. as shots of a college campus appear, while kids are walking around,a narration opens with "This is the story of five young women, A rocker, (showing footage of her and a band performing karaoke on stage at a rec center) an athlete (showing footage of her running hurdles on a track), a cheerleader (rooting for her team and her boyfriend during a football game), an outcast (basically a goth kid), and an academic (showing footage of her study for a book report on the novel "the most dangerous game"). "They were college students, sorority sisters, and the best of friends since childhood (which shows footage of them as kids,teenagers, then the adults they became later in life) until the night their perfect worlds were shattered beyond repair". "What started as an innocent practical joke drew the ire of a dangerous gang who followed them home (while the narration is going on they slashed the tires and disabled the motor to the gangs car in retaliation/defense of an uncle and two four year old children who were being bullied by the gang, then it's cuts to the gang breaking in to the sorority house and while try as they may,the girls are no match for the gang) and savagely beat and kill their housemother" ( one gang members holds the other residents at gunpoint in a corner of the house, five others pin the five girls down to the floor and make them watch whole the gang leader (who has a scar in the shape of a hook from his eyebrow to his ear ) and his second in command beat the housemother almost to death) you see and hear the girls crying and pleading not to kill her and offer to fix the car in exchange for her life but to no avail, the housemother tries to comfort the girls, knowing that she's about to die "there,there now. Everything's going to be ok, you girls be good you hear me?" Then hook-scar blows her face off with a shotgun and blood and brains splatter all over the girls while they're bawling their eyes out as he coldly says ".....and to all a goodnight " one gang member wants to waste the other girls but hook-scar grabs his shirts and forcefully reminds him "WE'RE DONE HERE!!!!, no lets get outta here before campus police show up". The next morning the girls are interviewed by police, but they don't tell them what caused the attack, after the housemother's funeral the girls are confronted by one of their fellow sisters and gives them a key that one of the gang members left behind. "What's this? ", "I don't know ", "Looks to me like a storage key, there's a storage area downtown let's go take a look later tonight". Later in the night they match the key with a storage unit number, and they open it up to find all kinds of firearms (shotguns, M-16's, 9mm's, AK-47's, you name it) "What does this mean?" "Isn't it obvious?, if the police can't do anything we'll do it ourselves, we have all the weapons we'll ever need to defend ourselves, but where to start?" "Hey,do you guys remember Mr. Gomez's class reports on the most dangerous game?" Next few shots would be the five girls loading ammo mags, strap on ammunition belts and loading their new found guns "NOW..,these five young women are on safari, hunting their quarry in the most dangerous environment know to man.............the criminal underworld", on this night they would be known as,THE MAN-HUNTERS!!!" and it would be a bloody and violent montage of them killing pimps,drug-dealers, etc. setting traps,lures and snares for perverts, child molesters, and rapists and when word got around that the girls were using weapons from their own storage unit,hook-scar beats the gang member who dropped the key to death and declares they were going on a hunt of their own, second to final shot shows an abducted athlete held prisoner by hook-scar who starts cutting off her fingers one by one (because he "doesn't like sticky fingers touching his property") followed by her bloodcurdling scream of pain while blood splashes in her face, final shot shows the four girls breaking in to rescue the athlete and killing the remaining gang members while hook scar takes a shot to the side and a deep laceration to the side of his neck. While he's crawling towards the exit the four girls patch up the athlete's hand (who's missing a thumb and half a pinky finger) and walk straight towards him with gun barrels pointed at him, and while spitting blood in his face the athlete mocking taunts hook-scar with his own phrase ".......and to all a goodnight". And while he gives the girls his own bloodcurdling scream of defiance, flashes of light from the gunshots and smoke fill the theater screen and freeze frame with the narration returning, "The Man-Hunters,.......pray you're not on their endangered species list"

For the past month my gf(23) has been suffering under strict pledge work for a sorority(which will not be named). I(23)have expressed my dislike of frats and sororities to her before, but I supported her throughout her entire pledge experience and served as her number one supporter. That was until she received insider information that the sorority had been lying the whole time and would actually conduct hazing at the end of all their pledge work, which even my gf was shocked to learn. Not only this but the they’re also mildly threatening initiates by stating that for each one that leaves more physical punishment would be dealt to the ones that stayed, even more so if they leave so late into the program (what a cheerful group to be in). Despite the shock, my gf still wishes to push through with the ordeal for the hopes of attaining the connections she’ll receive from the sorority. I put my foot down and we had a respectful argument about it. At the end of it she’s still pushing through, but I can’t help but feel negative emotions and distance myself emotionally from her. Am I the asshole?

Hi! I’m a rising sophomore at an ACC school. After graduating high school I didn’t think Greek life was for me, but since entering college, I’ve felt a lot of FOMO from the party scene as well as feeling like I’m missing out on “girl world” (I grew up with 3 sisters and went to Girl Scout camp every year) and so I decided to rush this fall.
I went through COB with 5-6 sororities this past spring but did not find a match or sign an mraba. I dropped all of the sororities, they did not drop me. I truly did not connect with any of them and do not want to find myself at any of these chapters on bid day this fall.
Over the last year I’ve become really close with one chapter on campus. I’ve attended 2-3 of their functions in the past semester and would call myself an acquaintance/outside member of a 10ish person friend group within that sorority. One of my closest friends is in this chapter and this sorority has a huge amount of members that are in my major or on the same scholarship as me. I’m in a male-dominated college and degree program at my school and it’s hard to feel that female community. My heart is set on this chapter for recruitment this fall. The girls truly have so much joy for each other and it feels like their sisterhood is calling my name. It’s hate waiting the next 3ish months until recruitment because I just want to join so badly.
I guess I’m really just looking for advice on how to prepare my mind and heart for rush. I know I don’t have an open mind. Not planning to suicide bid or be rude/dismissive to other chapters, but I really know what I want. Any advice is appreciated!

Anybody remember a DJ/MC that use to go around central Ohio about 16 years ago named Lucas Wayne? He was a white dude trying to become a rapper. He was booked for a Sorority Formal and handed out CDs to everyone during the event. I don't know anything else about the guy but I sometimes get "WHATS MY NAME, LUCAS WAYNE!" stuck in my head.

Trust me I thought about what to title this a LOT but theater kid just seemed like the best option! Could you please give me the names of good shows about those? Genre doesn't really matter, it's better when the plot is much more about all fraternities and sororities theme

Hello! My name is Naqiya, and I look forward to going through recruitment this fall. My concern is that I am deaf in my right ear and somewhat hard of hearing in my left. Because I grew up hearing and only recently lost it, this does not impact my ability to understand people in normal settings like work, outings with friends, etc. I am only impacted in settings that are really loud. I understand recruitment will be a very loud and exciting event, but this will prevent me from hearing and conversing with the women in each chapter. Do sororities have anything in place for PNMs with disabilities? I would love to put my best foot forward, but I can’t do so if I can’t hear the conversations lol. Thanks in advance for any input you can provide!
